- 0:00Speaker 1: Wait, you matched with them too. It's one more thing, I'm.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Strong Andy, one more thing, like the sound of that.
- 0:10Speaker 3: But before we go wherever, that is, first a long
- 0:14Speaker 3: distance dedication to the dumb asses on college campuses who
- 0:19Speaker 3: are claiming, for instance, like the uc of UC Davis
- 0:23Speaker 3: University of clowns at Davis. What are they calling themselves?
- 0:26Speaker 3: Do we have that in front of us? I mean
- 0:28Speaker 3: it's there. They're interchangeable. I mean that's kind of the
- 0:30Speaker 3: point of what we're going to talk about. But I
- 0:33Speaker 3: know Katie had that earlier.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Yeah, students with the Davis Popular University for the Liberation
- 0:39Speaker 4: of Palestine.
- 0:42Speaker 3: This goes out to you, you dumb ass kids. Money, Python, classic.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Tos lot Spleens got me nuts.
- 0:50Speaker 5: I haven't got a nuts.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Sorry, I've got Reren's.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Livers badges Spleens, No, don't want that Roman rubbish.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Why didn't you sell proper food food?
- 1:00Speaker 5: Yeah, those rich imperialist tippits don't blame me.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I didn't ask to sell this stuff, all.
- 1:06Speaker 5: Right, bagabouts noses I die to too, Thanks rich? Are
- 1:11Speaker 5: you the Judean People's Front of what Judean people frank
- 1:18Speaker 5: for the People's Front of Judea Judean people, Frank wankers.
- 1:26Speaker 5: Can I join your group now?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Piss off? I didn't want to sell this stuff. It's
- 1:30Speaker 2: only a job.
- 1:31Speaker 5: I hate the Romans as much as anybody.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Are you sure?
- 1:36Speaker 5: Oh? Dead Shore, I hate the Romans already. Listen, if
- 1:40Speaker 5: you wanted to join a PFJ, you'd have to really
- 1:44Speaker 5: hate the Romans. I do. Oh yeah, how much a lot? Right?
- 1:53Speaker 4: You're in Listen.
- 1:55Speaker 5: The only people we ate more than the Romans and
- 1:58Speaker 5: the Judean people, people from and the papers Front of Judaea,
- 2:07Speaker 5: the People's foots of Judea splitters. We're the People's Front
- 2:10Speaker 5: of Judea. Oh I thought we were the popular Front,
- 2:15Speaker 5: People's Front.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Whatever happened to the puppular Front. He's over there, He's
- 2:22Speaker 2: over there. Yeah, he's over there. Revolutionary. That is kind
- 2:31Speaker 2: of the way it goes, isn't it. Hey?
- 2:34Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yea, all right, So Katie.
- 2:36Speaker 5: What do?
- 2:36Speaker 2: What's you? It's on your mind?
- 2:38Speaker 1: My mind was blown this weekend.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I was at an event with several women who are
- 2:45Speaker 4: in their mid twenties, and we were discussing the dating
- 2:50Speaker 4: realm for them right now, because they were all just saying,
- 2:53Speaker 4: it sucks.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It's awful out here.
- 2:56Speaker 4: And there's an app that they're all using called Hinge,
- 3:00Speaker 4: and is that.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Sort of it.
- 3:02Speaker 4: It's similar to like an Instagram, you know, you have
- 3:04Speaker 4: your pictures, your captions and your little facts about you
- 3:07Speaker 4: and then.
- 3:07Speaker 2: How long is how long has hinge been hot?
- 3:10Speaker 4: I I don't know, but they've made Tinder sound ancient,
- 3:13Speaker 4: which was hilarious to me.
- 3:14Speaker 2: All Right, so these places like popular bars probably it's
- 3:17Speaker 2: very similar, like that bar's popular for a while, a
- 3:20Speaker 2: year or two or a summer. Yeah, and then if
- 3:22Speaker 2: you want to meet someone and you got to gover
- 3:23Speaker 2: to that bar for whatever reason. But anyway, so hinge.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So but they all had.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Their phones out with their Hinge apps and you know,
- 3:29Speaker 4: shown them around and then one of the girls goes, oh,
- 3:31Speaker 4: I just matched with we'll say, his name's John, and
- 3:35Speaker 4: she shows John to the group, and another girl that
- 3:38Speaker 4: I was sitting next to got really quiet and everybody
- 3:42Speaker 4: kind of looked over at her, and it turned out
- 3:43Speaker 4: that she had matched with John and they had already
- 3:45Speaker 4: gotten to know each other. So now there's this weird
- 3:48Speaker 4: well did you did you like go out with them
- 3:50Speaker 4: in person? And they have this whole set of rules
- 3:54Speaker 4: and the girls were telling me that this happens all
- 3:56Speaker 4: the time. They'll match with a guy, they'll start talking
- 3:59Speaker 4: to him, and then they'll find out that this same
- 4:00Speaker 4: guy is also talking to a friend of theirs.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I've found from people I know that do
- 4:05Speaker 2: a lot of online dating, like among the more attractive crowd,
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's a very small world. And they you know, because
- 4:12Speaker 2: if you're a good looking guy, everybody chooses you. If
- 4:16Speaker 2: you're a really good looking guy, everybody, so of course
- 4:19Speaker 2: there's going to be a lot of overlap, and then
- 4:21Speaker 2: you just go from one to one to one to one.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I guess I don't know.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I was just sitting there looking at them with my
- 4:28Speaker 4: jaw like dislocated because I'm going, no, wonder you guys
- 4:31Speaker 4: don't want to do this, because I just watched it
- 4:33Speaker 4: happen in live time. She got really excited about this guy,
- 4:37Speaker 4: and then her heart got broken thirty seconds after finding
- 4:39Speaker 4: out that her friend had already matched with him and
- 4:42Speaker 4: they had interacted somehow.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Well, like everything else in life, the sort of thing
- 4:46Speaker 2: that would have played out maybe over a summer years ago,
- 4:49Speaker 2: played out over forty five seconds.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Yes, it was unbelievable. I felt I feel for them. Now,
- 4:56Speaker 4: I get it. That was I don't know there.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Was some sort of unwritten code of claim jumping that
- 5:04Speaker 3: they are video chatted with them. How about in person?
- 5:12Speaker 4: Yeah, so you have if you messaged, did you guys
- 5:15Speaker 4: exchange numbers? Have you talked on the phone, or have
- 5:18Speaker 4: you met up in person? There's like a whole rule thing.
- 5:22Speaker 2: My observation from the outside, I've never done any online dating,
- 5:25Speaker 2: but I've heard a lot of it from other people.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Everybody's fooling themselves. I think that they think this particular guy, now,
- 5:35Speaker 2: the last ten good looking guys, we're just trying to
- 5:38Speaker 2: get laid. But this particular good looking guy is not
- 5:43Speaker 2: meet trying to meet every chick on here to have
- 5:46Speaker 2: a physical short term thing. He's different, and they hope
- 5:50Speaker 2: the next one is different every single time. And on
- 5:52Speaker 2: the other end of it, they hope this particular chick
- 5:55Speaker 2: is just not trying to get a really nice meal
- 5:59Speaker 2: or a gift out of me in exchange for whatever.
- 6:03Speaker 2: She's different. She doesn't go from guy to guy to
- 6:05Speaker 2: guy to guy with great dining experience or going to
- 6:07Speaker 2: a concert or whatever. And they all just turned hoping
- 6:10Speaker 2: that the next one is different. That's what I've observed. Wow,
- 6:16Speaker 2: but if you're on the attractive and I don't know
- 6:18Speaker 2: what the percentage is, top twenty percent or whatever, you
- 6:20Speaker 2: can endlessly have sex as a dude and get taken
- 6:23Speaker 2: out to really nice places as a girl, it seems
- 6:26Speaker 2: from my observation. And that's just the modern world.
- 6:30Speaker 1: This all sounds just horrible.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Whatever happened to the old ways of meeting people like
- 6:36Speaker 3: get the county drunk tank late on a Saturday.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Well, and I was actually reading about this the other
- 6:42Speaker 2: day that the most relationships, most long lasting relationships, happened
- 6:48Speaker 2: through somebody. You would have a way of knowing them
- 6:51Speaker 2: already through a friend or work or something like that,
- 6:55Speaker 2: as opposed to you see a picture of them. I mean, okay,
- 6:59Speaker 2: how long would it take to get to know somebody?
- 7:00Speaker 2: I mean, because they're basically they're blind dates without the
- 7:04Speaker 2: blind part. You've seen them, but you got zero actual
- 7:07Speaker 2: information about them.
- 7:09Speaker 3: And given the filters and everything these days, it's more
- 7:12Speaker 3: or less a blind date.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's worse than a blind date, because I mean
- 7:16Speaker 3: I could have a friend described oh yeah, it's my
- 7:19Speaker 3: sister's best friend and she said she's into this, that
- 7:21Speaker 3: and the other she's really sweet, got a great sense
- 7:23Speaker 3: youme blah blah blah blah, but you just haven't seen
- 7:25Speaker 3: her yet.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And I can also see we were talking on the
- 7:29Speaker 2: radio show, the Armstrong and Getty Radio Show, and if
- 7:31Speaker 2: you ever miss an hour, you should get the podcast
- 7:33Speaker 2: Armstrong and Getty on demand. I also know from talking
- 7:36Speaker 2: to people who do this, is that nobody's got the
- 7:38Speaker 2: patience for that to unfold. And I understand in the
- 7:41Speaker 2: modern world. Plus, if you're lonely, you know you don't
- 7:45Speaker 2: want to wait, but you know, not that many years
- 7:49Speaker 2: ago you would have had to wait for it. And
- 7:51Speaker 2: it might be late summer before you meet somebody in
- 7:55Speaker 2: the backyard barbecue or church or wherever you're going to
- 7:59Speaker 2: meet somebody. But people want to have somebody to go
- 8:01Speaker 2: out with this weekend, and so you're not willing to
- 8:04Speaker 2: let it unfold in that slow way that it used
- 8:07Speaker 2: to unfold, and nobody is. And so if you need
- 8:10Speaker 2: to have a date Friday, and I mean it's Tuesday
- 8:12Speaker 2: now when we're recording this, you need to have a
- 8:14Speaker 2: date Friday. And I know there are millions of people
- 8:16Speaker 2: in this situation you're going to go out with somebody Friday,
- 8:19Speaker 2: Well you got to you gotta pick fast.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Just reminds me of so many aspects of the Internet
- 8:24Speaker 3: world that were connected in a way that makes us
- 8:26Speaker 3: disconnected because you've got access to meet people twenty four
- 8:31Speaker 3: to seven, and nobody's coupling, nobody's having babies.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Right, so what are we doing? I think the choices
- 8:38Speaker 2: probably change things too, if things unfold very slowly and
- 8:43Speaker 2: you know you're going to have realistically two or three
- 8:48Speaker 2: opportunities to actually date somebody over a year, maybe as
- 8:53Speaker 2: opposed to yeah, you're all right, but I got somebody
- 8:56Speaker 2: I'm going out with tomorrow night. We're five people that
- 8:59Speaker 2: have already text to me today that I might go
- 9:01Speaker 2: out with. You just got so many choices. You're so much.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I really really like you, but I've got five other choices.
- 9:07Speaker 3: So you know you'd enjoy the back burner. I'll get
- 9:10Speaker 3: back to you sometimes.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, like the menu at the cheesecake factory. Too many options,
- 9:14Speaker 2: that's exactly right, too many options. We used to call
- 9:17Speaker 2: it blockbuster video disease or something black when blockbuster thing,
- 9:20Speaker 2: but like you want to watch a movie, you go
- 9:22Speaker 2: to the place and there's just all these choices and
- 9:24Speaker 2: you end up walking out without a movie like, none
- 9:27Speaker 2: of these look good to me.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I drove my dad so nuts so many times that we.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Left it right, just sayce with all these choices and
- 9:35Speaker 2: f I mean, none of them seem good. I think
- 9:36Speaker 2: that's exactly the phenomenon with the I got five women
- 9:40Speaker 2: attractive enough for me I could date this week. Why
- 9:43Speaker 2: would I choose you or care about you? Yeah, it's horrible.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I felt for him. I do too. I think you
- 9:50Speaker 2: know where do I get off. I've not had any
- 9:52Speaker 2: long term success in love, but God, it's an odd
- 9:55Speaker 2: path to go down. I don't know very many people
- 9:57Speaker 2: that like it, and there's pole that shows that people
- 10:01Speaker 2: are hating it. Mormon. Didn't you have that story the
- 10:02Speaker 2: other day, Joe, that people were souring on the somebody
- 10:06Speaker 2: had this story. People are souring on the online dating
- 10:08Speaker 2: thing ol old as they call it in the Reddit forums.
- 10:14Speaker 2: People are not satisfied with the direction it's going.
- 10:17Speaker 4: So I have many of friends who have online data,
- 10:19Speaker 4: and I have never heard one of them say they
- 10:21Speaker 4: were enjoying themselves and going through the process.
- 10:23Speaker 2: That's interesting, that is really revealing. Yeah, maybe it'll run
- 10:28Speaker 2: its course. I suppose that's possible and people go back
- 10:31Speaker 2: to the old way, although again I don't know if
- 10:33Speaker 2: people will go back to having the patients.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Ay, speed dating's coming back.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I think you're gonna say, maybe.
- 10:38Speaker 3: That was the article you're thinking of, because I remember
- 10:40Speaker 3: there are all sorts of speed dating theme nights, and
- 10:42Speaker 3: those are getting hot again because people are like, no,
- 10:44Speaker 3: I want to talk to somebody in the same room
- 10:47Speaker 3: and see if there's any chemistry. Maybe it could be
- 10:50Speaker 3: there is moving on from these technological miracles after we
- 10:54Speaker 3: try them for a while and realize they suck.
- 10:56Speaker 2: That might be a good compromise. I need. I want
- 10:59Speaker 2: to meet somebody now. I don't want to wait months
- 11:01Speaker 2: for it to accidentally happen, but I don't want to
- 11:04Speaker 2: do it through the Uh, yeah, you're right about that.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I've not had this experience, but I have heard about them.
- 11:09Speaker 2: The it's practically a blind dating that they look so
- 11:12Speaker 2: different from the picture. Got that fishing that's got to
- 11:16Speaker 2: be rough. How long you have to sit there and
- 11:19Speaker 2: wrap your head around I yues. I can see how
- 11:23Speaker 2: that would be you if you kind of slimmed down
- 11:27Speaker 2: your face and cleared up your skin, straighten your teeth advice.
- 11:35Speaker 6: You know, uh, all my data, all my dating was
- 11:40Speaker 6: old fashioned in person. You know, you just you go
- 11:43Speaker 6: up to them, you ask them out, and they either
- 11:45Speaker 6: say yes or no. You know, no guts, no glory.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I've done that too. But you do have to be
- 11:49Speaker 2: a lot more patient. You have to be willing to
- 11:51Speaker 2: let weeks go by where you know you might not
- 11:55Speaker 2: have an encounter, and most people aren't willing to wait.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I guess, well, I guess that's it.
