- 0:41The f A Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. We are going to
- 1:03get into the Second Commandment today. And as you know, were working through
- 1:08the Father Spirago's exhaustive Catechism of the Catholic Church. And yes, it actually
- 1:15does take about a week's worth of shows to cover one commandment. So if
- 1:19you think you know everything about the ten Commandments, just hold on a little
- 1:22bit, because I guarantee he will surprise you. But as usual, we
- 1:26start with a couple questions and answers from radio replies, classic book from the
- 1:30thirties and forties where two priests answered often very confrontational, hostile questions by Protestant
- 1:38and atheist callers, and the one today this bit hostile says, the constantly
- 1:46changing laws of the Catholic Church show that her principles are man made, and
- 1:52they answer, the principles of Catholic Church are not man made, nor can
- 1:56her constitution given her by Christ ever be changed. But just as many small
- 2:00bylaws can be made and repelled in a country without essentially changing constitutional laws,
- 2:07so when the Catholic Church special disciplinary laws can be enacted as special time to
- 2:12meet the special needs without any constitutional change in the religion. At the Reformation,
- 2:16however, men left the Catholic Church and set up new constitutions for themselves
- 2:22and their sex sex sects, in case you're wondering, can be called indeed
- 2:29man made religions. A person says the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception and fallibility
- 2:35the Pope were not believed before eighteen fifty four and eighteen seventy, respectfully,
- 2:39yet had to be believed after those dates. And they answered, both doctrines
- 2:44were believed in so far as Catholics believed in the revelation given by Christ,
- 2:49which contained these doctrines implicitly. When the Church defined them, she merely made
- 2:53it explicit, and of faith what had been hitherto implicit gave not a new
- 3:00but truth. She gave not a new truth, but simply made these matters
- 3:05clear by defining these doctrines to be part of the revelations brought us by Christ.
- 3:10The church is here for that. Indeed, of what use is a
- 3:14teaching church if she does not teach? All doubts concerning the correct interpretation of
- 3:21the original Christian doctrine on these two subjects were cleared away by these definitions,
- 3:25and today the four hundred million Catholics in the world know the truth and accept
- 3:30it without hesitation. See there's one more from this person. Ah. Yes.
- 3:37The Catholic Church is described in One Timothy four one through three. In
- 3:42the latter time, some shall depart from the faith, teaching doctrines of devils,
- 3:46speaking lies and hypocrisy, forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from meats.
- 3:51Where has her infallibility? And they answer, I'm afraid this is a
- 3:55case of mistaken identity. The Catholic Church is not in this description. All
- 4:01through the ages, men have departed from the faith in departing from the Catholic
- 4:05Church. Thus, in the sixteenth century the Protestants departed from the original faith
- 4:11and having and have been departing from each other ever since, going further and
- 4:15further into conflicting heresies. The Catholic Church does not teach the doctrines of devils.
- 4:20No church warns her children so earnestly against the devil as the Catholic Church.
- 4:27She clearly teaches that lies are never justified. The references to marriage and
- 4:31the eating of meats, you simply do not understand. Saint Paul warns the
- 4:35early Christians against those who would say that marriage is of itself evil and also
- 4:40the eating of meat. That's right. The Catholic Church does not encourage vegetarianism,
- 4:45no matter what you were caught in your Catholic college. We get a
- 4:48lot of just absolute bs from these social and environmental justice people try to say
- 4:55Jesus was a vegetarian. When Jesus very clearly, hey, wham at the
- 4:59past meal, ate fish as the first thing he did when he came to
- 5:02the apostles at the resurrection. You can go to when Moses and his family
- 5:10were saved from the flood and he said God, God said to him,
- 5:13I give you the animals of the earth to eat. And I think I
- 5:15could get into a more specific quote of that. But and another time Jesus
- 5:21actually said a sign of the Antichrist would be one who teaches, or well,
- 5:26actually I should say a sign of false teachers. All false teachers,
- 5:30all to teach opposing a doctrine to that of the Catholic Church, are indeed
- 5:36antichrist. But because they are anti to the teaching of Christ. I don't
- 5:41mean like the Antichrist, but all false teachers, false prophets, false religions.
- 5:46One of the ways they can be identified is the forbidding of eating of
- 5:49meat. So if you're in a Catholic college, or you got a kid
- 5:53at a Catholic college and they're professors telling them that the Catholic Church says they
- 5:58shouldn't eat meat, that they should be vegetarians or vegans, pull your kid
- 6:01out of the school right away, get all the money back you can,
- 6:06and get in touch with the board of trustees and tell them they have apostate
- 6:11a heretic teaching in their school and circulate it very well in that diocese and
- 6:16have that person condemned and fired because they have no place in Catholicism. They
- 6:21worship a God that is different than ours. They worship a Gaya, not
- 6:27a God well anyway, But the Catholic Church does not forbid marriage. She
- 6:36certainly says to her young men, you may marry, or if you feel
- 6:41that you are called to such a life, you may become a priest.
- 6:43But if you become a priest, you may not marry. That is a
- 6:46very different thing. Meantime, the fact that she forbids meet, especially on
- 6:49Fridays, shows that she does permit it on other days. Yes, you
- 6:54can actually use logic to refute the idiotic arguments of liberals. They are incapable
- 7:02of logic. Logic and liberalism are not compatible. You know. You can
- 7:09call it liberalism, progressivism, socialism, social and environmental justice, whatever,
- 7:15It's not logical at its core, nor is it in keeping with the true
- 7:21tenets of the true religion. So we will go on now to the second
- 7:26commandment. We'll get comfortable in my big, squeaky leather chair here. I
- 7:32usually try to edit that out, but a lot of times I cannot help
- 7:35the chair make some noise when I move around. But let's look here it
- 7:40the second commandment of God. The second commandment is this, thou shalt not
- 7:44take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. That is to say,
- 7:47thou shall not utter it without reverence. By the name of God is
- 7:50not meant the mere word alone, but the majesty pertaining or appertaining he says
- 7:57to the most High. Obviously, this follows very logically on our last discussion
- 8:01about taking oaths, ors or swearing. You know, when you take an
- 8:09oath or you swear that you're telling the truth or whatever, you are taking
- 8:15the Lord's name. You were saying, so help me God, I am
- 8:18telling the truth, or I will keep this promise. So this is something
- 8:22you know. It's interesting to see how the first commandment leads to the second.
- 8:28We owe reverence to Almighty God because he is a Lord of infinite majesty
- 8:33and of infinite bounty. Reverence is a mixture of fear, love, and
- 8:37esteem. If it was said of a monarch that he had millions of subjects,
- 8:41and that he had an army of hundreds of thousands of warriors who could
- 8:46take a field at his command, and that by a word of his lips
- 8:50he could make happiness or misery of multitudes, you would fear that monarch.
- 8:56But if you were told of his goodness, his endeavors to promote the way
- 9:00welfare of his subjects, you would love and esteem him. So you will
- 9:03feel towards God if you contemplate his infinite perfections and his great love towards man.
- 9:09Consider the perfections of God. There are upon earth some fifteen hundred million
- 9:13human beings. Well, there are a lot more than there were in the
- 9:16eighteen nineties when Father fresh Warrago read this. But don't worry, all you
- 9:20people that are so worried about social and environmental justice. You could still take
- 9:26the entire population of the United States and relocate everyone to Texas and they'd all
- 9:28have about an acre of land apiece. We are not overpopulated, nor are
- 9:33we anywhere near the level that the earth can support humanity. In fact,
- 9:39we can produce more food now cheaper than we ever could before. We can
- 9:46also and we should begin to clean up our water. That's my biggest concern
- 9:50is that all the plastics in the water, honestly, and that really does
- 9:54need to be addressed. But it is certainly within the powers of the human
- 9:58being to do just that without us. If you suddenly removed all every human
- 10:05from the face of the earth right now, who would clean up the water?
- 10:09Trust me, the fish and the deer aren't going to do it.
- 10:11Okay, you can say, well, you know humans did this in the
- 10:13first place. Yeah, yeah, we did. But we have the problem.
- 10:16We are the crown of creation, as the Bible says, the all
- 10:22of nature actually serves us, and then we steward it and cared for it
- 10:28and protect it right and make sure it's here for the next generation. That's
- 10:31the right way to look at environmentalism, not humanity, is a blight upon
- 10:37the earth. But humanity can screw things up and humanity can fix it.
- 10:41And humanity is the only logical reasonable animal if you want to look at it
- 10:46that way, that can do that. And you could say, well,
- 10:50without human beings, you know, the world be so much better, you
- 10:52know what. You go back and look at paleontology and all that, and
- 10:56you can see where a lightning strike calls forest fires that burned hundreds and thousands
- 11:03of acres, killing, you know, millions of animals. You know,
- 11:09God made man who can actually be a firefighter to stop that, you know,
- 11:13and you can I could go through every you know, we can manage
- 11:16populations of animals. You know, deer have mass die offs if they're not
- 11:22enough predators. And man, you know, is a predator whose job is
- 11:26to kill and eat a deer in part right, we can call the herd.
- 11:31And it's actually better for the help and the overall growth and everything of
- 11:35the deer. They without being cold, whether it's by a man or by
- 11:41a coyote or a you know whatever, they will exhaust their food source and
- 11:46you have mass starvation dieoffs and mass outbreaks of disease. And that's true for
- 11:50just about really every animal population on earth, a lot of them. We
- 11:56don't really mess with a whole lot anymore. If you get too many coyotes,
- 12:01they can absolutely wipe out entire herds of deer and smaller animals. Coyote
- 12:07eats about seventy pounds of meat a day, the average coyote does, and
- 12:11it just you know, runs rampant and slaughters everything you can find, right,
- 12:16And if it does that enough, it cannot only wipe out entire populations
- 12:22of the animals it eats, but then they will starve to death because they
- 12:26have no more food. Only man can go out and trap a coyote.
- 12:31There's not I mean, there are a couple of animals that can scare off
- 12:35a coyote, but there are not Nothing other than man can stop coyotes from
- 12:39decimating huge populations of all kinds of animals. And that's just one example,
- 12:46you know. But anyway, let's get back to the topic. So he
- 12:50says, Okay, God, there are upon the aar some fifteen million human
- 12:56beings. We just said that. Of course, now like three billion or
- 12:58something or four billion whatever, any one of whom. And for those that
- 13:03say we got to reduce the population. You know, we got to practice
- 13:05birth control and abortion. How do you know you're not going to get rid
- 13:09of the very one that's going to cure cancer, or the very one that's
- 13:13going to come up with a solution and cleaning the plastics out of the ocean,
- 13:16or the very one that could bring world peace or something. You know,
- 13:20you don't. Only God knows who each person is, and oftentimes he
- 13:26rises up, what is say in the Bible of the week, to confound
- 13:30the strong, the well, essentially the dumb, to confound the intelligence.
- 13:35I mean, we often see coming from the most poor and humble circumstances,
- 13:41someone without a lot of education that just does incredible things, someone that doesn't
- 13:46come from money. So I mean, and you know, I mean,
- 13:50I've said a thousand times you never see a more loving, kind, generous
- 13:54heart than you will in a child with down syndrome or an adult. You
- 13:58know, they actually get to stay pure and good. And I mean to
- 14:03say that they don't deserve to live is purely evil. And I'm sorry,
- 14:07But in your Catholic colleges and universities, that's exactly where the environmental social justice
- 14:13people are hitting. That's always the end result. It always starts with let's
- 14:18clean up the air and water, or let's give to the poor, and
- 14:20it ends with let's slaughter thirty million people. You think I'm exaggerating, Get
- 14:26the big Black Book of Communism and read about how two hundred million people were
- 14:31killed by their own governments, supposedly for their own good. And I don't
- 14:35think that even includes Hitler, Okay, or Mussolini, because this the Black
- 14:39Book of Communism, specifically about communists. Guests, national socialists and fascists are
- 14:45very similar, same ideology, but I don't think they're actually included in that.
- 14:50And it doesn't include the hundreds of millions of deaths by abortion practice in
- 14:54China, practice in Russia, practice especially in the United States, and England
- 15:00and Ireland. Unfortunately, I mean, you know, I'm sorry. Ireland
- 15:05is essentially lost. It's no longer even a Christian country. Neither is France,
- 15:09and neither is England. Maybe it will be again someday. But America
- 15:13is just barely hold on, and not by much, not by much at
- 15:18all. Canada's lost, Mexico is just barely hanging on. Brazil. I
- 15:24could go down the list of these, you know, a lot these were
- 15:28Catholic countries except for America and in Canada, of course, except for you
- 15:31know, certain provinces, but they're now. I mean what Mexico now has
- 15:37a communist lady who's its president. I guess she's also Jewish, but she's
- 15:43not religious or anything. A communist running Brazil, you know, it's in.
- 15:52Canada is probably one of the most hostile to religious nations in the entire
- 15:58world, hostile to any religion that's even vaguely Christian. They love Muslims.
- 16:03Boy, do they love Muslims. You know, I thought I was Muslim.
- 16:10I'd probably be moving to Canada right now, or you know, maybe
- 16:14Ireland or Norway or somewhere where you know, you're actually England certainly where you're
- 16:19going to be treated like a king because you're the people have been taught to
- 16:23hate their own country, They've been taught to hate their own religion, They've
- 16:29been taught to hate their own ancestry. And see, that's why I say
- 16:33liberalism or whatever you want to call it, is at its heart a mental
- 16:37disorder that is suicidal, because you are taught to hate everything that you are
- 16:44until what do you do eventually cut your genitals off and pretend you're a cat
- 16:47or something. You know, you remember a few years ago when we would
- 16:51have thought that was insane, and now it's like normalized. That's the problem.
- 16:56That's the problem. You can go pull up the you know, they
- 17:02had the psychologists, psychiatrists. They use this guide called the DSM to give
- 17:07a proper diagnosis to a mental condition. Go get like DSM three, dyem
- 17:11four. We're talking like nineteen seventies still and it says homosexuality is a mental
- 17:18disorder. By I think then the DSM five they took that out and now
- 17:23have normalized it. You know, that's that's the end result sterile unions and
- 17:33in euthanasia, which is now very popular in Canada. Yeah, I mean
- 17:38you get sick, and what do you have to live for if you don't
- 17:41believe in God, you don't believe in heaven. Yeah. So the doctors
- 17:48whose first vowel is the hippocritic oath of do no harm are now, you
- 17:52know, mutilating the generals of children and killing people for a living and making
- 17:59a lot of money doing it, a lot of money. So anyway,
- 18:04oh, where were we? Okay, so he hears their prayers. These
- 18:10are all the people on earth, whatever number they are at the time.
- 18:12He hears their prayers, he helps them in their necessities, he rewards or
- 18:17punishes them. For the most part here below, How vast is the knowledge
- 18:22of the supreme being. Millions of orbs revolve in space. God created them
- 18:26all, He maintains them all. He gives him all motion. How boundless
- 18:32is his power? Think of the unseen world alone, people by millions of
- 18:37celestial spirits. He knows each one, He preserves each one in existence.
- 18:42He guides and directs each one, and by each and all he is adored.
- 18:48How great is his majesty? Who is like the among the strong?
- 18:52Oh Lord, who is like to the glorious and holiness, terrible and praise
- 19:00worthy? Doing wonders It's Exodus fifteen eleven. On account of the great majesty
- 19:04of God, we should fear him, and we should love him by reason
- 19:07of his infinite goodness. Fear and love are the component parts of reverence.
- 19:15In the second Commandment, God commands us in the first place to show the
- 19:18due respect to his divine majesty. This we must do in the following manner.
- 19:22We should frequently call upon the name of God with true and heartfelt devotion,
- 19:27especially the commandment of all we do and in time of trouble Newton the
- 19:33Great Astronomer. Newton, the Great Astronomer, had the deepest respect for the
- 19:37name of God. He uncovered his head and bowed low whenever it was uttered
- 19:41in his presence. Made of our Christians bow their head when they pronounce the
- 19:45name of Jesus and prayer. The priest does so in celebrating mass. Sat
- 19:51Ignatious Bishop of Antioch, who when a child is said to have been,
- 19:55he whom our lords set in the midst of the disciples. At the time
- 19:57we said, whosoever shall humble himself as his child is greater, is the
- 20:03greater in the Kingdom of Heaven. This is amazing, you know, in
- 20:07the early Church writing, I've told you many times said it was the early
- 20:10Church writers, the early Church fathers as we call them, who really led
- 20:15me to understand the Catholic Church is the real and true Church. Santy Nations
- 20:19is one of like the first four I guess, right after the Apostles,
- 20:23you know, after the Bible, the first generation of Christians post the Apostolic
- 20:29order. Well, he was very much in the Apostolic time, and was
- 20:33actually the child that Jesus pointed to and said, who shall ever so humble
- 20:38himself as this little child, He is greater in the Kingdom of Heaven.
- 20:42I absolutely encourage you to read Saint Ignatious, Saint Jerome, Saint Justin,
- 20:48Martyr, St Pope Save Clement of Rome. It will give you more to
- 20:53understand and defend your faith and just about anything really, and all this stuff's
- 20:59available online for free now, which is absolutely amazing. Anyway, short before
- 21:03before his death, he said, this name shall never leave my lips or
- 21:07be effaced from my heart. And in fact, after his martyrdom, the
- 21:11Holy Name was found inscribed in his heart. Yes, according to legend,
- 21:17he was killed for his faith and the name of Jesus was found printed essentially
- 21:22on his heart. In alidany of the Holy name, we invoke the name
- 21:26of Jesus again and again because it is the most powerful of all names,
- 21:30and through it we can obtain all we need. If you ask the Father
- 21:33anything in my name, he will give it to you. That's John sixteen
- 21:37twenty three. By the name of Jesus. The apostles in saints work miracles.
- 21:41Saint Peter said to the lame man in the gate of the temple.
- 21:44In the name of Jesus, Christ arise and walk it's Acts three six.
- 21:48Christ promised that in his name the devil should be cast out Mark sixteen seventeen.
- 21:53The devils tremble to the name of Jesus. They take flight when they
- 21:56hear it, even when it is uttered by evil men. So great is
- 22:00its potency. The name of Jesus is also all powerful to fill the heart
- 22:04with joy. It is compared to oil and canicals one two. As oil
- 22:10gives light, alleviates pain, and affords nourishment, so does the name of
- 22:15Jesus when we call upon it. Saint Vincent pra Rare declares it to be
- 22:19a defense in all dangers of spiritual and temporal. All dangers both spiritual and
- 22:23temporal, and this means of healing bodily infirmities. All graces are combined in
- 22:30the Holy name. There is no other name under having given to men,
- 22:34whereby we must be saved. Acts four twelve. At the name of Jesus,
- 22:38every niece should bow of those that are in heaven and on earth and
- 22:42under the earth. Philippians two ten. An indulgence of twenty five days is
- 22:47granted for each invocation of the Holy Name, and and a plein plenary that
- 22:52means a full indulgence at the hour of death for those who have frequently invoked
- 22:57it it during life. That's according to Clement the Thirteenth, that was granted
- 23:04in seventeen fifty nine. To pronounce the name is indispensable for obtaining the indulgence
- 23:11at the hour of death. Would that every Christian would say, with Saint
- 23:15Bernard, the name of Jesus's honey to the taste, melody to the ear,
- 23:19and joy to the heart. No one who clings to mortal sin can
- 23:23devoutly call this name. No man can say the can say the Lord Jesus,
- 23:29but the Holy Ghost. It's first Corinthians twelve three. In beginning every
- 23:34wish, before every action, however insignificant, we should call in the name
- 23:38of God and make a sign of the cross with the usual words. All
- 23:44whatsoever you do in word or in work, do in the name of the
- 23:47Lord Jesus Christ. It's Colossians three seventeen. Thus thus we shall merit the
- 23:53divine blessing and earn a reward for every action. Our Lord promises that anyone
- 23:59who gives to another a cup of cold water, and his name shall not
- 24:03be unrewarded. It's mark nine point forty. We should also call upon the
- 24:07name of God in the time of trouble. He said, call upon me
- 24:10in the day of trouble, I will deliver thee and thou shalt glorify me.
- 24:15In the year sixteen eighty three, Christians obtained a brilliant victory over the
- 24:19Turks. Their battle cry was the names of Jesus and Mary. In the
- 24:23hour of death. Above all, we should breathe the name of Jesus,
- 24:26like Saint Stephen, whose last words were Lord, Jesus received my spirit at
- 24:33seven fifty eight. We ought to show respect for all that appertains to divine
- 24:38worship, more especially for the servants of God, for holy places, sacred
- 24:42things, and religious ceremonies. We ought to show respect for the ministers of
- 24:47God in this In this count, Rudolph of Habsburg said an excellent example.
- 24:52One day, when he went out hunting, he met a priest carrying the
- 24:56blessed sacrament to the sick. Instantly he dismounted and offered him his horse to
- 25:00the priest, And when the latter on his return, gave back the horse
- 25:03to the count. He would not take it, saying it must thenceforth be
- 25:07devoted to the service of the sanctuary. The priest predicted that good fortune and
- 25:11happiness would attend to his career, and so it did. Nine years later,
- 25:17Rudolph was elected emperor. The Lord bids us reverence his priest. He
- 25:19says, he that despiseth you, despiseth me. Luke ten sixteen, touch
- 25:25not my anointed in Oh gosh, what was that? I think, King
- 25:33David. It doesn't matter anyway, And Saint John Christossum says that the honor
- 25:38shown to the priest has shown to God himself. God also requires us to
- 25:42show respect to holy places and things. When He appeared to Moses in the
- 25:47burning bush, and Moses approached somewhat near, he said to him, come
- 25:51not nigh hither. Put off they show's shoes from thy feet, For the
- 25:55place whereupon thou standeth is holy ground Exodus three five. Under the old dispensation,
- 26:02the people were strictly forbidden to touch the ark of the Covenant numbers four
- 26:06fifteen, reverenced by sanctuary. Leviticus twenty sixty two enter into the House of
- 26:11God, as if you were entering into heaven and leave behind you all the
- 26:15savors of the earth. Holiness becomes thy house, O Lord. That's from
- 26:18Psalms. We should also manifest respect for all religious service. Saint Elizabeth of
- 26:25Hungary removed her crown from her head whenever she heard the Mass out of respect
- 26:29for the Gospel. We stand up when it's read, and we preserve a
- 26:32grave demeanor when we approach the sacraments. We ought frequently to praise and magnify
- 26:37God on account of his infinite perfections and goodness, especially when He reveals his
- 26:41professions in a certain especial manner or confers a benefit upon us. Three children
- 26:48in the Fiery Furnace sang a canticle of praise when God preserved them from being
- 26:51hurt by the flames. It's Daniel three. When Tobias received his sight,
- 26:55he immediately blessed the Lord Tobit eleven seventeen. You know, and again,
- 27:00if you don't have Tobad in your Bible, you don't have a real Bible.
- 27:03You need a real Bible, So go get a Catholic Bible, not
- 27:07a counterfeit Protestant Bible in which words or Jesus will changed and several books removed
- 27:14entirely. Remember the Magnificad, the song of praise utter by the Mother of
- 27:18God, and the Benedictus, the caanical of thanksgiving pronounced by Zacharias on his
- 27:23cure in luke I. Whenever you receive any favor from God, say diogratchius,
- 27:27thanks be to God, or glory be to the Father, etc.
- 27:30And frequently repeat the salutation let Jesus Christ be praise. In some parts of
- 27:36Germany and Switzerland, this pious greeting takes the place of saying good morning,
- 27:41that's that's nice. I doubt they do that anymore, or good day,
- 27:45and is in use among us. And I think Father of Sprago's and Czechoslovakia's,
- 27:49so maybe they did the same thing. And if you are prevented by
- 27:53infirmities from praising God with your lips at any rate, praise Him in your
- 27:57heart. For God, who hears not as we hear, requires not audible
- 28:02sound. He reads the heart, and it's content with our good will.
- 28:06Yes, God, here's your thoughts when you pray to him, And well,
- 28:08he hears everything. He's omnipotent and omnission and Jesus said that the saints
- 28:15in heaven are like God. So when Protestants say they can't hear your prayers,
- 28:19well, actually they can, and it's actually their job to hear your
- 28:23prayers and pray for you and work help with the salviafic mission of Christ.
- 28:29They help save you because they care about you. We're part of the Body
- 28:33of Christ, part of the community of Saints, and we're called to love
- 28:36for each other and pray for each other. Bless the Lord, oh my
- 28:38soul, and let all that is within me, bless his holy name.
- 28:41Bless the Lord, oh my soul, And I will never forget all that
- 28:45he hath done for me. Is from Psalms. I will bless the Lord
- 28:48at all times. His praise shall always be in my mouth. Also from
- 28:51Psalms, I think all this is blessed be the name of the Lord.
- 28:55From henceforth, now and forever, from the rising of the sun into the
- 28:57going down the same the name of the Lord is worthy of praise. In
- 29:02praising God, we do the best for ourselves, for therefore we draw down
- 29:07upon ourselves the divine blessing and great abundance. Furthermore, God prohibits everything which
- 29:11is a violation of the reverence due to His divine majesty, in particular the
- 29:15taking of the name of God in vain. Many people have the habit of
- 29:19thoughtlessly exclaiming it every trifle that surprises them, Good Lord or my God,
- 29:23and the like. It is a bad habit. Correct yourselves of it,
- 29:26and endeavor to correct others, as it shows a want of doe reverence for
- 29:30the name of God. Those who truly love God cannot stand by unmoved and
- 29:36hear His holy name profaned. The careless, flippant use of the name of
- 29:40God or of any other sacred name, is at least of anal sin.
- 29:44Let not the naming of God be unusual, and let not the naming of
- 29:48God be usual in thy mouth, For thou shalt not escape free from sin
- 29:52Ecclesiastes twenty three to ten. For the Lord will not hold him guiltless that
- 29:57shall take the name of the Lord word his God in vain. Exodus twenty
- 30:02seven, verse Chapter twenty, verse seven. We take good care, since
- 30:07Saint John christosom not to wear out our best clothes by putting them on every
- 30:11day. So we must beware lest we thoughtlessly utter the name of God,
- 30:15which is worthy of the profoundest reverence. The Jews did not venture to pronounce
- 30:19the word Jehovah Jehovah whatever, as the Jews did not venture to pronounce the
- 30:26word Jehovah or Jehovah when they spoke of the Lord. That's something the Jehovah's
- 30:33witnesses and the Tory observant don't really get. They always talk about Jesus as
- 30:38Yeshua and God as Jehovah, and the Jews consider those The name Jehovah especially
- 30:45to be such a holy name, especially in its Hebrew spelling of like Yahweh.
- 30:52That's that name was never meant to be spoken, is actually written in
- 30:59an unpronoun ouncible way because it was considered to be so holy. And on
- 31:03the topic of swearing, he says by this has meant the use of holy
- 31:07names in a moment of anger as an imprecation against certain persons or things.
- 31:12For instance, parents when angry wish ill to their children using the name of
- 31:15God or heaven workmen call down evil and the tools they employ. Out of
- 31:21the mouth of a Christian, none but blessing should proceed first Peter three nine.
- 31:25Should the same mouth, wherewith we pray, wherewith we receive the sacred
- 31:30body of the Lord. Be employed to curse our neighbor and offend against God.
- 31:33Almighty God often punishes those who curse others by allowing the curse to be
- 31:37fulfilled. Saint Augustine speaks of a certain motherhood cursed her refractory sons or disobedient
- 31:45sons. They having gone so far as to strike her. Immediately they were
- 31:49seized with convulsions, convulsive movements of the limbs, from which, after wandering
- 31:55through many lands, they were at length cured at Hippo by touching the relics
- 31:59of Saint. Even Saint Ignatius of Loyola once asking alms of a Spanish nobleman.
- 32:07The latter flew into a rage and said, may I be burned alive
- 32:09if you are not a rogue deserving the hangman's rope. Certainly shortly after,
- 32:14on the occasion of festivities to celebrate the birth of an heir to the throne,
- 32:19a barrel of gunpowder exploded in the nobleman's house, and he was so
- 32:22severely burned that he expired in agony a few days later. Working people who
- 32:28curse and swear over their work or called down imprecations upon the horses they are
- 32:31driving, cannot expect their labor to prosper. Thus God rewards those who use
- 32:37bad language. He loved cursing, and it shall come upon him. That's
- 32:43also from Psalms. A man who indulges the bad habit of swearing commits many
- 32:47sins and is in danger of eternal perdition. As one tells from the language
- 32:52of a speaker of what country he is a native. So when oaths flow
- 32:58freely from a man's lips when making clue that he belongs to Hell, there
- 33:01is reason to fear that he does not belong to the Kingdom of God,
- 33:05for he talks the language of Hell. The fathers who used to consider swearing
- 33:09as the fathers used to consider swearing a sign of perdition, Those who curse
- 33:15shall perish. That's in Psalms. They shall not possess the Kingdom of God.
- 33:19That's from Corinthians six' ten. Ordinary swearing as a venial sin provided
- 33:23no serious evils worked on one's neighbor. Yet it is a greater sin than
- 33:28taking God's name in vain, because not only is it disrespect towards God,
- 33:31but an offense against charity, and that would be, of course, using
- 33:36God's name as a a curse. We're not supposed to do that in decorous
- 33:44behavior towards persons who are connected to the service of God. Holy places and
- 33:49sacred objects are actions. As we treat a priest in his priestly capacity,
- 33:53so we treat God himself. For Christ said, he that despises you who
- 34:00despises me Luke ten sixteen. He who abuses or despises a priest is guilty
- 34:06of dishonoring God and deserves the same chastisement as the Jews who abuse and despise
- 34:10the son of God. Saint John Christossom says that the want of respect for
- 34:15ecclesiastical superiors is a source of all evil. How severely the little boys were
- 34:21punished. You mock the prophet Alicia or Elisias. I think it's Alicia.
- 34:25He uses the old spelling in four Kings two twenty four. We also offend
- 34:30God by unseemly behavior in church, laughing, whispering, steering about, lolling,
- 34:36etcetera. I would say, you know, checking Twitter or Facebook on
- 34:39your cell phone or texting would certainly fall in that category. Saint Ambrose says
- 34:45that people who have behaved badly in church, that they come with small sins
- 34:50and go away with great ones. Insults offered to God in his house are
- 34:53more offensive to him than offered elsewhere. We ourselves resent most of all rudeness.
- 34:59Show them to us in our house. This is why the meek and
- 35:00gentle Savior drove those who bought and sold out of the temple, saying,
- 35:05my house shall be caught a house a prayer, But you have made a
- 35:07den of thieves, said Matthew twenty one thirteen. If any man violate the
- 35:12temple of God him, God shall destroy first commit Corinthians three seventeen. The
- 35:16same respect as due to holy things as to holy places. When David was
- 35:21bringing the art back to Jerusalem and Israelite named Ozo ventured to lay hold of
- 35:24it, God struck him and he died. Second King six's seven King
- 35:29oziahs was punished with leprosy because he entered the sanctuary, and when to burn
- 35:32incense to disturb religious services or to show contempt for them, is also sinful.
- 35:38Of this sin. The sons of Heli were guilty when they interfered with
- 35:43the Jewish sacrifices in first Kings two. In the present day, some evil
- 35:47disposed persons interrupt sub sermons, processions, and other services, or insult priests
- 35:53who are taking the bus to sacrament to the sick. These offenders are punishable
- 36:00by law as disturbers of divine worship, and that certainly happened recently here in
- 36:05the United States. Blasphemy of this sin Those are guilty who revile God his
- 36:10saints, who speak contemptuously of objects connected with worship. The Emperor Julian the
- 36:16Apostate would often speak of the Son of God as the Galilean, which at
- 36:22the time the word was considered an insult. Even at his death, which
- 36:25was occasioned by the thrust of a lance, he said to have exclaimed,
- 36:30thou hast conquered O Galilean. Ungodly persons are often heard to utter bitter revilings
- 36:36against God, especially in times of suffering and affliction, as if they did
- 36:39not deserve the trials he sends him. It has blasphemy to speak scornfully of
- 36:44God or to his actions, or to attribute to a creature that which is
- 36:47the prerogative of the Creator. The people sinned. Thus when King Herod made
- 36:52an oration to them and cried, it is the voice of God and not
- 36:55of a man. That's an Acts twenty two. The Jews committed this sin.
- 37:01God says that by the mouth, by the mouth of the prophets,
- 37:05my name is continually blasphemed all day long. Isaiah, I guess that's what
- 37:10was that. I can't remember the chapter on that one. To speak contemptuously
- 37:14of holy places and things is a kind of blasphemy as a reflection upon God,
- 37:19whom we are told to praise in his holy places and the psalms.
- 37:22Sacrilege is another kind of blasphemy. It is it consists of putting an improper
- 37:29and degrading use which pertains the service of God. The king of Babylon,
- 37:35Baltazar, committed sacrilege, which in committed sacrilege when in a state of aebriation,
- 37:43he commanded the sacred vessels that have been taken from the Temple of Jerusalem,
- 37:46where they were used in the worship of God, to be brought it
- 37:49to serve as drinking cups of the feast. The mutilation of statues, or
- 37:52to face and crucifixes a statue is a sacrilege and that's happening a lot these
- 37:58days too. Would it not be considered a treasonable act to treat the crown
- 38:04or the portrait of an earthly monarch with such contempt? Again, those who
- 38:08receive sacraments unworthily, who appropriate to themselves church property, or who commit a
- 38:14theft in the church come under the same condemnation. As you know. When
- 38:19King Henry took all Catholic lands and basically just gave them to his friends and
- 38:23supporters, turned some of them, you know, of course, into Anglican
- 38:28churches, he created a grave sacrilege. It is said that that Jews and
- 38:32Freemasons have sometimes obtained consecrated hosts which they subject horrible profanation. So to Wiches
- 38:40and New Age types in our time, such conduct is simply satanic, and
- 38:45yes it is. Blasphemy is essentially a diabolical sin, and one of the
- 38:52gravest transgressions. Blasphemy may be called a sin peculiar to devils and reprobates,
- 38:58for his holy spirits speaks by the mouth of the good, so the devil
- 39:01speaks by the mouth of the blasphemer. According to Saint Bernadin, the blasphemer
- 39:06is worse than a dog, For a dog does not bite the master who
- 39:08is kind to him when he chastises him, whereas the blasphemer reviles God from
- 39:14whom he has received so many benefits, obviously of the fact that God only
- 39:17afflicts him for his own good. When the saintly Bishop Polycarp in others first
- 39:23five or six church Fathers definitely read Polycarp was offered his life if he would
- 39:28blasphere Christ, he said, for eighty six years I have served him,
- 39:31and he has done me nothing but good. How can I speak evil of
- 39:36my king and Master. Saint Jerome, another one of the early church fathers,
- 39:39says that all sins are slight in comparison with this, For by all
- 39:44others, one offends against God directly indirectly. But this sin offends against the
- 39:49Most High himself, not against his image, whom hast thou blaspheme, against
- 39:54whom hast thou exalted thy voice, against the Holy One of Israel. That's
- 40:00four kings. Oh, I can't remember nineteen yes, nineteen twenty two.
- 40:08All other sins arise from human frailty or ignorance, but blasphemy comes from malice
- 40:15of the human heart. According to Saint Bernard. Other sins bring some advantage
- 40:19to the sinner. Pride desires to gain importance, average money, in temperance,
- 40:23the the intemperance, the pleasures of the table. But this sin brings
- 40:29a man, no prophet, no pleasure. The Jews punish the blasphem with
- 40:32death. Saint Thomas Aquinas declared blasphemy to be immortal sin unless it is committed
- 40:37in a hasty moment without deliberation. Aughtest thou not to fear that fire will
- 40:43fall from heaven upon thee and consume thee. If thou dost venture to disperse
- 40:46the name of the Almighty, will not the earth open and swallow thee up?
- 40:51Deceiveth not thyself, O man, Thou cannot Thou canst not escape the
- 40:55hand of the onipotent God. Saint Ephrem said that God punishes blasphemy with severe
- 41:00chastisement in time and with everlasting damnation hereafter. Is also punishable by human law.
- 41:08Well, it used to be, and it still should be. God
- 41:12is not mocked Galatians six seven. When King Baldazzar profaned the vessels of the
- 41:16sanctuary, judgment fell upon him. Immediately. Let me just back up here,
- 41:21I said before, I'm not a free speech absolutist. This is alte
- 41:24An excellent example. When governments obeyed the Catholic Church, blasphemy was a crime
- 41:32illegal, and I believe that is part of the authority given by God to
- 41:38the Church to prohibit such things as blasphemy, And that means one cannot be
- 41:45a totally opposed to censorship. I think obviously the Church has a duty to
- 41:51prevent blasphemy, as it offends God and is harmful to the person who does
- 41:55it. Now you would say that the person should be free to blaspheme God
- 41:58only once. Well, the person's certainly not going to escape the punishment of
- 42:02God. But what of the people who hear and are influenced by him?
- 42:07Children, you know, as are being taught in our public schools right now.
- 42:13So no, I am not a free speech hip salutist anymore than I
- 42:16would keep my mouth shut if a blind person was walking toward a cliff.
- 42:21I'm going to say, don't do that. That's dangerous, and the only
- 42:25authority giving God's power on earth, the supreme King of the universe, should
- 42:30have the ability to make laws for the benefit of the good. Don't kill
- 42:36don't blaspheme, don't commit adultry. All those should actually be punishable crimes.
- 42:43And you know, we don't punish adultery anymore, and we certainly don't punish
- 42:46blasphemy, and we're pretty picky about what murders we punish these days. You
- 42:52can kill children with impunity, you know. Anyway, So are judgment fell
- 43:00upon him, and immediately an unseen hand wrote his fate upon the wall.
- 43:06That same night the enemy entered his city. He was slain, and his
- 43:08kingdom became part of the Persian Empire. Daniel Chapter five. Sinachur Rib,
- 43:17king of Assyria, blasphemed God. Shortly after, he lost two hundred thousand
- 43:22men in the war against the Hebrews and was assassinated by his own sons.
- 43:27Michael, the third Emperor Constantinople, made public mockery of the sacrament on the
- 43:30feast of the Ascension. At night, there was tremendous earthquake, and sometime
- 43:35later the emperor was murdered, and Israel Like cursed God in the wilderness.
- 43:38He was put into prison till Moses had ascertained what was God's will? The
- 43:43Lord said, let all the people stone him. That's Leviticus, as a
- 43:46man who throws a stone up into the sky cannot up into the sky,
- 43:51cannot touch, must less injure any of the heavenly bodies, but may broke
- 43:55his own head if the stone falls back upon him. So Rismouth's words do
- 44:00no harm to the being against whom they are directed. They only fall back
- 44:04upon the head of the one who utters them, and to his own perdition.
- 44:08Thus the blasphemer wets the sword to pierce his own heart. According to
- 44:12Saint John christossm Our, Lord says that whoever reviles his neighbors shall be in
- 44:17danger of hell fire. In Matthew five twenty two, how much more he
- 44:22who reviles God under the old law, when God was not so well known,
- 44:25it was said he that curseth father or mother shall die the death Exodus
- 44:30twenty one seventeen. How much more shall judgment overtake those who, in this
- 44:36age of knowledge and enlightenment, curse not their parents but the Lord their God.
- 44:39They shall be cursed that all despise thee. That's from tobd. He
- 44:45that blasphemeth the name of the Lord dying, let him die. That's also
- 44:47for Leviticus blasphemy is also punished by secure authority, as I said it used
- 44:53to be and should be. Saint Louis of France made a law that anyone
- 44:58who blasphemed God should be se on the lips with a red hot iron.
- 45:02That's pretty tough. This was done to a wealthy citizen of Paris, with
- 45:07a result that before long no blasphemous word was heard in the kingdom. Saint
- 45:14Jerome, on one occasion, rebuked an ungodly man for his impious words.
- 45:17When asked, he said, a dog may bark in his master's defense,
- 45:22and am I to stand silent when God's holy name is blasphemed? I would
- 45:24sooner die than forbear to speak. I think we can actually wrap this one
- 45:29up. The last topic under his simony, and that consists of the selling
- 45:34of spiritual things for money essentially or the equivalent of money. And this is
- 45:38really interesting. We can get in well. I have before the various heresies
- 45:44the Gnostics and really leading up to the Freemason's start with Simon. Simon the
- 45:49magician Simony. He was the one that tried to buy salvation through the apostles
- 45:58In the Middle Ages. Simony was a common bishop sees and beneficies. Benefic
- 46:07I can't pronounce that word for some reason today b E n E F I
- 46:13c ees. It's not a hard word, but my tongue is getting twisted.
- 46:15We're sometimes sold to the highest bidder. It is simony to offer priests
- 46:19money for absolution, to sell relics, or to charge a higher price for
- 46:22objects such as crosses and rosaries because they may have been blessed. You can
- 46:29sell a rosary but charge more for it because it's been blessed by a priest.
- 46:32That's simony. The sin takes its name from Simon, the magician,
- 46:37who offered the apostles money when he saw that by the imposition of their hands
- 46:42the Holy Ghost was given, saying, give me also this power, that
- 46:45on whomsoever I shall lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.
- 46:49That's Acts eight nineteen. He who is guilty of sin of simony is excommunicated.
- 46:55The words of Saint Paul to him in reply, were thy money perished
- 46:59with because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
- 47:05Acts eight twenty. He actually went on and started his own church and
- 47:08called himself the Messiah and started a lot of the errors that Protestants still believe
- 47:15to this day. To give money for masses is, however, not simony.
- 47:21It is much the same as giving someone alms and asking for his prayers.
- 47:24Nor is the payment of fees to the parish priests for the exercise of
- 47:28his ministerial function to be recognized as simony, because these fees are not a
- 47:31price paid for the discharge of spiritual duties, but a contribution toward the maintenance
- 47:36of the priest. You know, it's a stipend. That's a big mistake
- 47:39Protestants make, thinking that we actually pay the priest to do confession or something.
- 47:45They're not allowed to take money for hearing confession, but if there's some
- 47:49special work that they need to do outside of their regular duties, it's okay
- 47:54to, you know, pay them for their time, not for their spiritual
- 48:00duties. Otherwise, Saint Paul would not have written these words. They who
- 48:04work in the Holy Place eat things that eat the things that are of the
- 48:08Holy Place, and they that serve the altar partake with the altar. So
- 48:13the Lord ordained that they who preach the Gospel should live by the Gospel.
- 48:16And in other words, it's okay for a priest to have a salary,
- 48:20just as it's okay for a Protestant minister to have a salary. Our priests
- 48:24so take aveolop poverty, and they don't make a whole much more than just
- 48:29to provide for their clothes and their food. And you know, in fact,
- 48:32they really don't make any more than that. And it'scepting very rare occasions.
- 48:37But anyway, the object of the Confraternity the Holy Face is to make
- 48:42reparation for blasphemies and in reverences committed against God. And I am a member
- 48:46of the Confraternity the Holy Place. I urge you strongly to join it.
- 48:52It's free again, this is one of those free things the church does.
- 48:55Look it up online. It's based in France. You may have to do
- 49:00let Google translate the page if you don't read French. And anyway, it's
- 49:04prayers we say to the Holy Face of Jesus is preserved on the cloth from
- 49:07Saint Veronica, and it is to make reparation for blasphemies and sins against the
- 49:15Church and communism, especially communism. He says, it is well known that
- 49:20our Lord miraculously imprinted his sacred countenance upon the cloth handed to him by Saint
- 49:25Veronica on the way to Calvary. The Emperor Tiberius, when sick, have
- 49:30this cloth brought to Rome, and the mere sight of it suffice to cure
- 49:34him. Veronica is said to have given it to Saint Clement, That's Pope,
- 49:37Saint Clement, the third Pope. The fellow worker was Saint Peter.
- 49:40Yes, he was ordained by Saint Peter, where it is yet preserved.
- 49:44In eighteen forty nine, at Christmas it was exposed and for three hours it
- 49:50was surrounded by a halo brilliant light. The cloth still bears the impression of
- 49:54our Lord's features. They are distinctly discertible and show how he was maltreated by
- 50:00the barbarous soldiery. In fact, this image affords striking evidence for the irreverence
- 50:05of man towards God. The sight of it inspires us with pious horror and
- 50:09heartfelt contrition. For a long time no copy was permitted to be made of
- 50:14it. This is no longer the case, and the prince of it are
- 50:16now venerated. God making known his miracle by God making known by miracles and
- 50:22speedy answers to prayers. How highly approves this devotion, they'll send you a
- 50:28white scapular I wear around my neck mostly daily. Okay, it kind of
- 50:34gets in the way, like if I'm doing hard, sweaty work, I
- 50:36might take it off for a minute. But it's a white scapeo with the
- 50:40face of God on it, as it's one of the devotions I really believe
- 50:45in and practice daily. At a lacante in Spain, after a long period
- 50:50of drought, a picture of the Holy Face was carried in a procession.
- 50:52A tear was seen to roll down the eyes of the picture, and a
- 50:55few days later rain fell abundantly. In tours. A large number of cures
- 51:00were affected in the presence of the Holy Face, and it was there by
- 51:05means of the exertions of the pious m. Du pont. I cannot remember
- 51:09his first name. I think he's actually venerable now, But anyway, that
- 51:14the Confraternity of the Holy Face was instituted, its object being to make atonement
- 51:19for the sins of blasphemy. In the revelations of Saint Gertrude, we read
- 51:22their Lord said to her, those who venerate the image of my humanity,
- 51:27my human countenance as his face shall be interiorly enlightened by the radiance of My
- 51:31Godhead. And to Sister Saint Pierre in eighteen forty five, he said,
- 51:37as one can purchase whatever one will the coin of the Realm stamped with the
- 51:43King's head, So those who adore my countenance will obtain all they desire.
- 51:47Again, the more you seek to effaced from my countenance the marks of the
- 51:52disfigurement caused by the blasphemers, the more I will restore your soul to face
- 51:57by sin, to its original beauty, so that it may peer as if
- 52:00it just came from the waters of baptism. So y'all, I'm going to
- 52:04leave you that. With that, we actually wrapped up the second Commandment.
