- 0:33What is going on, everybody?
- 0:34Happy Fourth of July to all
- 0:37you people here in the United States.
- 0:40And I guess happy Friday to
- 0:43everybody else in the world.
- 0:45I know Lito's here.
- 0:46She's over there in the UK.
- 0:48We got Kenneth.
- 0:50Glad you guys could be.
- 0:51Shay's here for a live.
- 0:53Love to see it when Shay can hop in.
- 0:57Jody, lunchtime poolside.
- 1:00So jealous.
- 1:03Yeah,
- 1:03Jamie's been sending me pictures of
- 1:05her on the boat up on Lake Michigan.
- 1:08Man,
- 1:09I love being around water on days like
- 1:11today.
- 1:13Hopefully I can do something
- 1:15like that this weekend.
- 1:19I know my wife just took
- 1:20Walter up to the lake and went swimming.
- 1:23And so Walter got some swim
- 1:24time this morning.
- 1:25What's up, Craig?
- 1:28Trained to live.
- 1:31Uh, so yeah,
- 1:33hoping to get around some
- 1:34water later this weekend.
- 1:36Um,
- 1:36maybe we'll take Walter back up there
- 1:38this weekend.
- 1:39He loves, loves the water.
- 1:43Um,
- 1:43I hope I'm not interrupting anybody of
- 1:45you who are tuning in to
- 1:46see the Nathan's hot dog
- 1:49eating contest over there
- 1:51at the boardwalk.
- 1:53Um, is there anybody that,
- 1:55that truly enjoys watching this?
- 1:58Like I can't believe the
- 2:00ratings a hot dog eating
- 2:02contest gets on TV.
- 2:04That boggles my mind to this day.
- 2:08The gluttony of just shoving
- 2:12wet hot dog buns and raw hot dogs into,
- 2:15um, into your mouth.
- 2:18Just, I've watched it a few times.
- 2:21I just can't, just can't anymore.
- 2:24Um,
- 2:27is joey chestnut still
- 2:28around so this is his like
- 2:30comeback year apparently
- 2:32last year he claimed he was
- 2:33vegan and because of that
- 2:36the nathan's group kicked
- 2:37him out of the hot dog
- 2:38eating contest um and then
- 2:40now he's back this year so
- 2:43I don't know I trained to
- 2:49live I thought you were
- 2:50having your own hot dog
- 2:51eating contest on the lunch
- 2:52show today I am not
- 2:56I've done eating contests in the past.
- 3:00I was in a chicken-winning
- 3:02eating contest once,
- 3:03and I realized I just don't
- 3:05eat that fast.
- 3:07I don't eat that fast.
- 3:11It was how many chicken
- 3:12wings could you eat in fifteen minutes,
- 3:14and then you took a five-minute rest,
- 3:16and then you got a
- 3:16two-minute lightning round.
- 3:19And I ate, I think... It was...
- 3:24like, I was sick.
- 3:30Like, somewhere around thirty.
- 3:31The guy who won ate eighty-three.
- 3:34Like, I was nowhere even close.
- 3:38And that was like twenty years ago.
- 3:42But yeah.
- 3:43Yeah.
- 3:45Yeah.
- 3:46Um, Jody Lynn says America.
- 3:48Um,
- 3:49we're going to talk about America at
- 3:50the end of the show today
- 3:52and the five things that
- 3:53make me feel America.
- 3:55Uh, Kenneth to lap says,
- 3:59hasn't been the same since
- 4:00Kobayashi that we're
- 4:02reminiscing about food eaters is crazy.
- 4:06Uh,
- 4:06trying to get to the gym in maybe heavy
- 4:09or cardio.
- 4:10It's such a tough choice.
- 4:12Something tells me you're leaning heavy.
- 4:18So there.
- 4:21One funny thing that
- 4:22happened today is this and
- 4:25I'm going to share my
- 4:26screen with you all.
- 4:30So my L one expires at the
- 4:31end of the year.
- 4:33I got this email today from
- 4:35CrossFit that we're just
- 4:38reaching out to remind you
- 4:38that your CrossFit level
- 4:39one trainer CFOL one
- 4:43credentials expire six
- 4:44months in on December
- 4:46thirty first twenty twenty five.
- 4:48Do you remember a couple of
- 4:49months ago when there was a
- 4:50judge at Mayhem said I
- 4:52didn't I didn't know my thing.
- 4:54My credentials expired.
- 4:57I didn't know.
- 4:58I didn't know.
- 5:00How could I know?
- 5:02Well,
- 5:03here I am six months out and I've got
- 5:05a big,
- 5:05bold email from CrossFit telling me
- 5:09mine's going to expire in six months.
- 5:11And then, and when the expiration date is,
- 5:15and then these are my options.
- 5:18I can do the level one.
- 5:20I can do the level two.
- 5:22Or I can do the online level one.
- 5:28so I had this up ready
- 5:30because of what happened a
- 5:31few months ago and then I
- 5:33saw a hillar post today
- 5:35where he showed they
- 5:36offered a one-year
- 5:37extension for a hundred and
- 5:39ninety nine dollars I did
- 5:41not get that offer that
- 5:43offer is not in this email
- 5:45um and then I honestly I've
- 5:50talked about this on the
- 5:51show I don't know whether
- 5:52I'm going to extend
- 5:55My CrossFit level one,
- 5:56I don't coach anymore.
- 5:57I do the media thing.
- 5:59I don't judge anymore.
- 6:00That's really why I did the second one.
- 6:04I coached for like four
- 6:05years at my gym and then, and I loved it.
- 6:09But the media thing just
- 6:10takes over everything.
- 6:11So I don't know whether I'm
- 6:16going to keep my going or not.
- 6:21I loved taking the course.
- 6:23I've taken it both in person and online.
- 6:26The online I think is way
- 6:27harder than the in person.
- 6:29The in person is much more stretched out.
- 6:33You do a little bit here,
- 6:34a little bit here, a little bit there.
- 6:36The online, man,
- 6:37it's crammed in and you're
- 6:41doing a lot of moving in a couple hours.
- 6:46I was so sore at the end of
- 6:48my online L-One.
- 6:52but yeah.
- 6:58Uh, Denise says,
- 6:58I think you should ask for an extension.
- 7:01Uh, I just,
- 7:02I don't know what it means to me anymore.
- 7:03I'm not coaching.
- 7:04I'm not, I'm not judging.
- 7:07I don't need the credentials.
- 7:10So I just don't know.
- 7:14I've always wanted to get my
- 7:15L two just to see what it was to see what,
- 7:19what was in it.
- 7:20But,
- 7:22is it worth a thousand
- 7:23dollars for me to to just
- 7:26see and be curious uh jody
- 7:31says but what if there's a
- 7:32judging emergency and they
- 7:34need you uh I think they'll
- 7:37be okay uh denise showing
- 7:44she's better than all of us
- 7:46she did three hours of
- 7:47working out this morning on a holiday
- 7:51And she is hot and tired.
- 7:55What's up, Meredith?
- 7:57So, yeah,
- 7:58just to show that CrossFit does
- 8:00actually notify you when
- 8:02your L-I or L-II is going
- 8:04to expire and gives you
- 8:06fair warning to sign up for
- 8:07another class to keep it going.
- 8:10So some of the excuses that
- 8:11were brought out back then
- 8:13really don't hold a lot of water.
- 8:22Jody Lynn,
- 8:23Siobhan promoted your show when
- 8:24he signed off.
- 8:25I was there.
- 8:26I heard it.
- 8:28I love me some Tudor Magda.
- 8:30Tudor has been one of my
- 8:31favorite athletes for a very long time.
- 8:34I met him when James
- 8:35Townsend was coaching him.
- 8:37Got to meet them at,
- 8:39I think it was the MAC back
- 8:41a few years ago and hung
- 8:42out with them outside the
- 8:43venue for a little bit.
- 8:46Really been a big fan of Tudor ever since.
- 8:53Next,
- 8:53they need to release a list of all
- 8:54media people that have
- 8:55CrossFit certification.
- 8:58Yeah.
- 8:58Well, right now, me.
- 8:59Right now, me.
- 9:06Wanted to talk quickly.
- 9:07You know,
- 9:08I review all the documentaries
- 9:09that come out.
- 9:11So I watched the Fee,
- 9:12Saga Fee documentary that Hiller did.
- 9:16I don't think...
- 9:19It is definitely my favorite
- 9:21video of the year.
- 9:27So I would give it an A+.
- 9:30I think the highlights of
- 9:33the video are in all of that time,
- 9:37they never really talk
- 9:38about this year's games.
- 9:40They talk about her upbringing.
- 9:43They talk about her being a violinist,
- 9:45which that just warmed my
- 9:46heart that she played the
- 9:48violin for Hiller.
- 9:50I've been begging for that in a video.
- 9:56Charlie and I make a brief
- 9:57appearance in the video.
- 9:59Not that that's the highlight,
- 10:01but it was cool to see that we made it.
- 10:06What else?
- 10:07The steroid talk I thought
- 10:09was fascinating.
- 10:11And then, of course, the end of the video.
- 10:13And I don't want to put any
- 10:14spoilers out if you have not seen it.
- 10:17It gets really deep, really emotional.
- 10:20And you get all the feels at
- 10:23the end of that video.
- 10:24And I thought Hiller
- 10:24captured it amazingly.
- 10:27And he should be commended for it.
- 10:29I also thought the stuff in
- 10:31the gym was not like about training.
- 10:35it was like about the
- 10:36relationships with Dallin and Jason and,
- 10:39and I just, I,
- 10:45the only part that I had a
- 10:46hard time understanding was
- 10:47Matt Torres's thought process.
- 10:50And I was actually talking
- 10:50to another coach last night
- 10:52and he was like, Oh yeah, that's the,
- 10:54that's the stuff I get into
- 10:56like diving into Matt Torres's brain.
- 10:59And I'm like, well, he,
- 11:01that was way over my
- 11:03capability as a coach.
- 11:05So, uh, so it, but he loved it.
- 11:10And I just, I, I,
- 11:13I see your comments in here.
- 11:15Uh, trained to live.
- 11:16A fee doc was a hundred out of ten.
- 11:19Uh, Jose,
- 11:20best documentary in the amount of
- 11:22time I've done CrossFit in my opinion.
- 11:25Yeah, I,
- 11:25it's definitely my favorite of the year.
- 11:28I don't want to get caught
- 11:29into like hyperbole and say
- 11:30that it's the greatest of all time,
- 11:33but it may be the greatest of all time.
- 11:36Um,
- 11:37And maybe that's something
- 11:39we can talk about in the
- 11:40future is going back through,
- 11:42because I've probably
- 11:43watched every documentary
- 11:46that CrossFit has ever done.
- 11:50I have not watched all the side stuff,
- 11:52but I've watched every one
- 11:53CrossFit has done.
- 11:56And there's a couple that
- 11:58may compete with it for different reasons,
- 12:03but man, it's up there in the top five,
- 12:05I think, for sure.
- 12:07No, I don't think for sure.
- 12:09It is a top five video all time.
- 12:11It may be the best one ever.
- 12:14It may be the best one ever.
- 12:18Lito says, haven't seen it yet.
- 12:20Saving it for tonight.
- 12:21I will not give you any spoilers,
- 12:26but it's really, it's really,
- 12:29it grabs you right at the beginning.
- 12:32It's pretty amazing.
- 12:34Meredith says, excellent film.
- 12:35Really, truly enjoyed it.
- 12:40I know you've talked about it before,
- 12:41and I think Fee's
- 12:42personality and openness
- 12:43and willingness to be
- 12:44vulnerable made that video great.
- 12:47I agree.
- 12:49But it also takes the
- 12:50interviewer or the person
- 12:52doing the content,
- 12:54it takes them working to
- 12:56know a little bit about the
- 12:59person's background to be
- 13:00able to ask the right
- 13:01questions to get you there.
- 13:05And that's where the
- 13:06difference between Hiller
- 13:09and the road to the games are.
- 13:11He did enough research going
- 13:13to Fee's house that he knew
- 13:15what to ask her.
- 13:19And I know he did because
- 13:20him and I actually talked
- 13:21about it this week.
- 13:26So he knew before he got to
- 13:27her place a list of things
- 13:29that he wanted to get to.
- 13:33And that is like really key.
- 13:37Like every interview I do for this podcast,
- 13:41like I have a list of notes
- 13:43of things that I want to
- 13:44get to and how to kind of
- 13:46set up the situation so
- 13:48that the person does trust
- 13:50me and the person does understand.
- 13:53I think it's something that I have
- 13:58By the games last year,
- 14:00I was rolling in that
- 14:01department of getting
- 14:03people to that area.
- 14:05Because a lot of the people we interview,
- 14:07nobody's ever heard of.
- 14:09We were doing semifinal athletes,
- 14:10master's athletes, all of that stuff.
- 14:13You have to do enough
- 14:14research to know how to get
- 14:15them there and then ask the
- 14:18right questions.
- 14:20been a little out of
- 14:21practice and so I don't
- 14:22think I'm as on my game as
- 14:24I was last year and I'd
- 14:26really like to get back to
- 14:27that um just really hard to
- 14:30get back on the horse um do
- 14:37you think killer is doing
- 14:38this to make a point about
- 14:39the road to the games I think
- 14:49I think that may have been a
- 14:50small piece of the
- 14:51motivation at one point in time,
- 14:57but I think that he has
- 15:00learned that he really loves doing this.
- 15:05And I think that the product
- 15:07that comes out at the end, he is very,
- 15:10very proud of.
- 15:13If that answers your question, Kenneth.
- 15:16I do think part of that was
- 15:18motivation at the beginning,
- 15:20and then he realized he's
- 15:22pretty good at this,
- 15:23and I think he really likes doing it.
- 15:32Do you think the issue with
- 15:33Road to the Games is they
- 15:34don't have enough time as
- 15:36they're trying to cover a
- 15:37large number of athletes in
- 15:38a fairly short time?
- 15:43I think that it doesn't take
- 15:44that long to research a person.
- 15:52Go back to when we were
- 15:53doing a hundred semifinal
- 15:55athletes in like six weeks
- 15:58or last year when we did
- 16:00fifty Masters athletes in four weeks.
- 16:05You can still get a lot of
- 16:06research done in that
- 16:08amount of time to ask the
- 16:09right questions.
- 16:15Denise says,
- 16:16you've had a lot going on this year.
- 16:17Scott, give yourself some grace.
- 16:19I have had a lot going on this year,
- 16:20and I am giving myself some grace.
- 16:22I just know that I really
- 16:28prided myself on my interviewing ability,
- 16:31and it has fallen off
- 16:33because of my busyness this year.
- 16:36And we'll get back there.
- 16:37We'll get back there.
- 16:39But I started this lunch
- 16:40show and this has been
- 16:41something different that
- 16:42I've had to commit to and
- 16:43had to get better at each day.
- 16:45And I talked about that
- 16:46earlier in the week.
- 16:47Like just talking by myself
- 16:49to a camera and seeing you
- 16:51guys in the chat is a
- 16:52different experience than
- 16:53doing a show with Carolyn
- 16:55and Jamie where we're
- 16:55talking to each other.
- 16:57And I just had to get better at this too.
- 17:00But we'll get back to it.
- 17:02Yeah.
- 17:07I will,
- 17:08I will talk about that another time.
- 17:11So I, the fee documentary, a plus, uh,
- 17:15I know some of you said,
- 17:16go watch the tier videos.
- 17:19They're really well done.
- 17:20So I've watched Abby Domitz.
- 17:22I've watched Romans.
- 17:25I may have watched one other
- 17:27this week and they,
- 17:30I do think they're better
- 17:31than road to the games, uh,
- 17:33But I still think they rely
- 17:35on the training scenes way
- 17:37too much and not about the
- 17:39personal stuff.
- 17:44And that's the big
- 17:44difference between what
- 17:46Hiller's putting out and
- 17:48what the others are putting out.
- 17:52So I enjoyed the Abbey Dome
- 17:54video and I enjoyed the Roman video.
- 17:58quite a bit,
- 17:59but they're not at the level
- 18:01of Hip and Steel, Horvath, Hopper,
- 18:07and Fee.
- 18:09Those are a different tier.
- 18:14Pardon the pun.
- 18:16But tier does a pretty good job.
- 18:17They're very well produced.
- 18:19They look really nice.
- 18:24But they're also trying to
- 18:25promote a product.
- 18:27So they want you to see the tier shoes,
- 18:31the tier sports bra,
- 18:33the tier shorts in action in the gym.
- 18:37So their motivation may be a
- 18:38little bit different than
- 18:41Hiller who's just trying to
- 18:43hear the story.
- 18:50So I enjoyed the tier.
- 18:53I don't think it's on the
- 18:54Hiller or that Laura Horvat video thing.
- 19:00But it's really good and entertaining.
- 19:06Then I watched Road to the
- 19:07Games last night with Harry Lightfoot,
- 19:11Amy Kringle, and Callan Clemens.
- 19:15And it may be the best one
- 19:18that they've done so far.
- 19:21I think my problem with Road
- 19:22to the Games is it's almost
- 19:23by accident that they do a good video.
- 19:29Harry Lightfoot,
- 19:31I've got to get him on the show.
- 19:32That dude is hilarious.
- 19:34His personality comes out,
- 19:37and they did more –
- 19:40they did more outside the
- 19:41gym stuff with those three.
- 19:43They talked about Amy
- 19:44Kringle wanting to make a
- 19:45granola company and they
- 19:47went swimming with Kellen
- 19:49Clements in the ocean and
- 19:52Harry Lightfoot and his wife,
- 19:55girlfriend fighting about
- 19:56carrying the groceries up the stairs.
- 19:58And Harry Lightfoot's dad is hilarious.
- 20:01Yes.
- 20:02All of that was hilarious.
- 20:05much better than in the gym
- 20:06stuff I think but I don't
- 20:09know again if it's by
- 20:10accident or or just
- 20:13circumstances made it so
- 20:15that they did more of that
- 20:17but that's the stuff I want
- 20:18to see that's the stuff I
- 20:22want to see and I thought
- 20:24it was it was much better I
- 20:25would give that an a minus
- 20:28that road to the games it's
- 20:30probably the best one of the year
- 20:34And what's crazy is the week
- 20:36before was a D with the
- 20:37Lucys that I thought was
- 20:39the worst one of the year.
- 20:44So there's some good content
- 20:48out for this weekend.
- 20:49If you have not seen it,
- 20:51the most recent Road to the
- 20:53Games is actually pretty good.
- 20:55The tier stuff out there is pretty good.
- 20:58And then the fee thing is
- 20:59just knock your socks off good.
- 21:06Lito said it was so funny,
- 21:08but it was definitely due
- 21:08to their personalities.
- 21:10I agree.
- 21:11I agree.
- 21:15I think Harry Lightfoot stole the show.
- 21:17I thought Callan Clements
- 21:18was kind of funny that he
- 21:19has to park down around the
- 21:21block from his apartment
- 21:24because he can't find a parking spot.
- 21:26And it's almost a workout
- 21:28getting from his apartment to the car.
- 21:29I thought that was pretty funny.
- 21:32But I loved when like him
- 21:33and his buddies were
- 21:34swimming in the ocean.
- 21:36I thought that was super cool.
- 21:39And a really like
- 21:40lighthearted way to look at
- 21:41things in their personal life.
- 21:45And then when the Kringle
- 21:47Lightfoot thing ended at
- 21:48the restaurant and the
- 21:50contradiction between
- 21:52Lightfoot needing to count
- 21:53every single one of his
- 21:55macros and Amy Kringle not caring at all.
- 22:02Kenneth says,
- 22:03Frogrips put some good ones out too.
- 22:06Yeah,
- 22:06I think the only problem that these
- 22:08companies putting them out
- 22:09is their agenda is that
- 22:13they have to show their product.
- 22:16So that's going to mean that
- 22:17they're going to rely more
- 22:18on the training scenes than
- 22:20the personal stories behind everything.
- 22:27His girlfriend buying him a woman's razor.
- 22:30Yeah, that was great.
- 22:33Because Harry has no hair on his legs.
- 22:37Harry is the wrong first
- 22:38name for that guy.
- 22:46So there you go.
- 22:52So that is my reviews for
- 22:55the week on the CrossFit content.
- 22:59I also watched Coffee Pods
- 23:00and Wads yesterday with Dave Castro.
- 23:04I thought it was a really good interview.
- 23:05I thought Dave was more
- 23:07relaxed than I'd seen him
- 23:08in a long time during an interview.
- 23:12I thought the question of the episode was,
- 23:17with everything that happened,
- 23:19do you ever feel like you
- 23:21just want to say F off and go away?
- 23:24And the long pause that Dave
- 23:27took before he said, let's move on.
- 23:35was more telling than if he
- 23:37actually answered the question.
- 23:42Because I do think he's been
- 23:43through a lot.
- 23:45And I was thinking about it.
- 23:47I've thought a lot about last year.
- 23:49Being at those games was really hard.
- 23:55I think that he has been through a lot.
- 23:58And...
- 24:02I think that when Peter
- 24:03pointed out that him and Boz had talked,
- 24:05that Boz says that if it wasn't for Dave,
- 24:08they wouldn't have made it through,
- 24:09or Dave was the only person
- 24:10that could get them through
- 24:12the games last year.
- 24:14I actually had lots of
- 24:15conversations with Boz at
- 24:16the games last year, and he was cracked,
- 24:21and he was a shell of himself.
- 24:25And because of that,
- 24:26I do believe he was right.
- 24:32I think that people
- 24:33nitpicking about what Dave
- 24:35said in a moment of crisis
- 24:38is completely unfair
- 24:43because I don't know how I
- 24:45would have handled it any better.
- 24:47It's easy to take shots at
- 24:50people in those moments of weakness.
- 24:54But if I put myself in those shoes,
- 24:57I don't,
- 24:57I don't know if I could do any better.
- 25:00I don't know if I could
- 25:00remember everything,
- 25:02every word that I used,
- 25:04every word that was said to
- 25:06a T in a crisis situation
- 25:08to then convey to other
- 25:10people as I'm probably
- 25:13going through a grieving process myself.
- 25:21I don't know.
- 25:22I think that's really hard.
- 25:23And the expectations that
- 25:24some people had during that
- 25:26time I think is completely unfair.
- 25:35CrossFit says,
- 25:37you have to think how many
- 25:38times Dave had to have
- 25:39those brutal talks and thoughts.
- 25:41He was bound to misspeak or slip up.
- 25:44I agree.
- 25:46Nobody under that situation, I guess,
- 25:52take a step back and ask yourself,
- 25:55if I was in that situation at that time,
- 25:58how would I have handled it differently?
- 26:00And if you don't have an
- 26:01answer after six months or nine months,
- 26:04Think about he had.
- 26:07Sixty minutes, two hours.
- 26:12That's when when Ben
- 26:14Bergeron came out and said
- 26:16he would have done things the right way,
- 26:18but he couldn't explain
- 26:18what the right way was.
- 26:20I was like that dude's off
- 26:22his freaking rocker.
- 26:26Anyway.
- 26:28thought it was a great
- 26:28interview um but I thought
- 26:30that part of the interview
- 26:31was the best in the
- 26:32highlight and uh told a lot
- 26:41I guess I'm ready to make
- 26:42an announcement um I've had
- 26:46meetings with the person
- 26:48that I'm going to follow at
- 26:49this year's crossfit games
- 26:52and their coach we had a
- 26:54long meeting last night
- 26:55talking about ground rules
- 26:57And I've talked about it
- 26:58this week that Savan
- 27:00already does a behind the scenes and then,
- 27:04um,
- 27:05buttery bros tried to do their version
- 27:07of behind the scenes.
- 27:08And then Craig Ritchie tried
- 27:10to do their version of behind the scenes.
- 27:12And I just,
- 27:13I don't want to do another just
- 27:15basic behind the scenes.
- 27:20Cause it's already being done.
- 27:21And I don't think I could do
- 27:22any better than the Savan
- 27:23crew does already.
- 27:26So what I'm going to do is
- 27:27I'm going to follow one athlete,
- 27:30one athlete from beginning to end.
- 27:33And actually, prior to the games,
- 27:39we're going to talk to this
- 27:41athlete and their coach and
- 27:43get some footage.
- 27:44And then we'll get it as
- 27:45they arrive and through check-in.
- 27:49as they prepare the days
- 27:51before the games his
- 27:52check-ins on tuesday the
- 27:54games don't start till
- 27:55friday and there's all that
- 27:57time in between and how you
- 27:58handle that and then we're
- 28:01going to be with them the
- 28:02entire weekend I have asked
- 28:05for enhanced coverage uh
- 28:07media access to be behind
- 28:09the scenes in the warm-up
- 28:11area with them um and do
- 28:14some other stuff on there as well
- 28:16I have not heard back on that.
- 28:18Hopefully I can get that.
- 28:20If not, we have a plan B for all of that.
- 28:29And it's all been agreed to
- 28:33by the athlete and the coach.
- 28:35And I'm going to highlight
- 28:36the coach more than it's
- 28:37been done in the past.
- 28:39And their process through
- 28:40this whole thing as well.
- 28:43And I'm going to tell you
- 28:44who it is right now.
- 28:44Everybody's asking for a hint.
- 28:46It's not a Lucy.
- 28:49It had to be someone.
- 28:50I've never done this before.
- 28:52I'm setting up a proof of
- 28:53concept for the future,
- 28:55and it had to be somebody
- 28:56that I trust implicitly and
- 28:58who trusts me.
- 29:00And that person is what
- 29:02Train to Live said.
- 29:04It is Hattie Canio.
- 29:07So we are going to follow
- 29:08Hattie Canio from now up
- 29:13until the games until
- 29:15And through the games and
- 29:17we're going to have a
- 29:18conversation after the games.
- 29:20Um,
- 29:21I got a whole hotel room in the same
- 29:24hotel as her.
- 29:25So we are going to be in
- 29:26close proximity and we're
- 29:29going to have those
- 29:30conversations and it's
- 29:33going to be amazing.
- 29:35Uh, so I'm really psyched for that.
- 29:38Um,
- 29:40I think,
- 29:41and she has promised me tons of
- 29:43dance parties and lots of
- 29:46pasta is how she calls it.
- 29:48Uh,
- 29:50so we're going to be staying in the
- 29:52same hotel room.
- 29:53We're going to be able to, um,
- 29:55be with each, uh, be with each other.
- 29:59If need be.
- 30:01Um,
- 30:02and we set the ground rules and it's
- 30:06going to be awesome.
- 30:08So this is awesome.
- 30:11I think we've talked about this last night,
- 30:13Jose,
- 30:14that you would be taking some
- 30:15pictures for her.
- 30:17So I want to be able to work
- 30:19with you as well.
- 30:20And we'll credit you in the
- 30:22documentary and maybe do
- 30:23some stills as part of the documentary.
- 30:31CrossFit says,
- 30:32bring some ketchup chips for Hattie.
- 30:34There you go.
- 30:36Or how do you bring them?
- 30:38So yeah, we're super excited for that.
- 30:39We had a long meeting last night.
- 30:41All the ground rules are set.
- 30:42We're ready to go.
- 30:47But I cannot wait to do this.
- 30:50It's something new for me.
- 30:52It's going to expand me
- 30:53outside of my comfort zone.
- 30:55But I think that we can do a
- 30:56really cool job.
- 30:58I did this kind of once
- 30:59before with Jamie before
- 31:01she became a co-host.
- 31:03I did a documentary with her
- 31:04during quarterfinals.
- 31:07I think it was quarterfinals
- 31:09when she was in the thirty
- 31:10five to thirty nine year old division.
- 31:12And I spent the entire
- 31:13weekend with her and her
- 31:14family and we captured all of that.
- 31:18And and so now I now that
- 31:21I've learned some things,
- 31:22I want to do something even better.
- 31:31Uh, James W he's a few minutes behind,
- 31:34but another comment on Dave is, uh,
- 31:37we have no idea what orders
- 31:38he was getting from Don
- 31:39fall and the board of directors.
- 31:41He probably did the best he
- 31:42could under the circumstances.
- 31:44I would even go a step
- 31:47further and say that he was
- 31:49put out there to be the
- 31:51shield for the board and
- 31:53Don foul Don fall.
- 31:58Uh, so.
- 32:01think he was put out there
- 32:02to be the scapegoat uh
- 32:08trained to live would you
- 32:09do the same thing for
- 32:10carolyn at matt for masters
- 32:14right now I'm trying to do
- 32:15an overall behind the
- 32:16scenes because the masters
- 32:18community doesn't get that
- 32:19like they the elite
- 32:20athletes do so I'd like to
- 32:22do like a more overall
- 32:24behind the scenes of the
- 32:26masters including all of them
- 32:29And that would include like
- 32:30Lito and Jamie and Rudy
- 32:33burger and like all of them, Denise,
- 32:38all the people that are in
- 32:39the chat that are just
- 32:40freaking awesome athletes.
- 32:42Um, yeah, we're, we'll do,
- 32:47we're going to do some
- 32:48behind the scenes stuff.
- 32:50I still don't have like the final,
- 32:51final approval on that,
- 32:53but I think we're getting it.
- 32:55Um,
- 32:56And if we don't,
- 32:57we're going to do something else.
- 32:58We're going to,
- 32:58we're getting in the
- 32:59building and we're going to do something.
- 33:01And if it's something like more of a,
- 33:04like exclusive access with
- 33:05Jamie and Carolyn,
- 33:07maybe that's what it is
- 33:08because we'll all be here.
- 33:10I don't know,
- 33:15but you're going to get
- 33:16something from the masters
- 33:17games for sure.
- 33:19Um, that, that, those are my people.
- 33:26All right.
- 33:28I'm so excited to do this, guys.
- 33:30Thank you so much for the comments.
- 33:33Denise is like, nice.
- 33:37Lito's nice.
- 33:39Tringle is super pumped for that.
- 33:44Fellow Canadian, let's go.
- 33:48Very exciting.
- 33:51Yeah, so really excited about this one.
- 33:55And then back on the Dave thing,
- 33:57CrossFit says he was being
- 33:58the villain for the brand by design.
- 34:00That is said better than I
- 34:02could have said it.
- 34:07Denise, I'll do anything for you, Scott.
- 34:09Thank you.
- 34:10Denise was a highlight in
- 34:11last year's behind the scenes.
- 34:14My favorite part is when I
- 34:15snuck up behind her and she
- 34:17didn't see me and turned
- 34:18around and was startled.
- 34:19And I got to capture that on camera.
- 34:22That was one of my favorite moments.
- 34:25She was just trying to get
- 34:25some post-workout or pre-workout in.
- 34:28I snuck up on her.
- 34:31All right.
- 34:32We are going to talk about
- 34:33the five things that make
- 34:35me feel proud about America.
- 34:38America.
- 34:39Not America.
- 34:40America.
- 34:42And so the first thing on my list,
- 34:45and this is no particular order.
- 34:46These are just the five
- 34:48things that make me feel America.
- 34:52And my first one is...
- 34:55Rocky Balboa, red, white, and blue shorts.
- 35:00Rocky IV, great movie.
- 35:02Rocky is my favorite movie of all time.
- 35:05And Rocky in the red, white,
- 35:06and blue taking on the Russians,
- 35:08that makes me feel America.
- 35:11But you know what elevates this even more?
- 35:15You know what that is?
- 35:17It's when someone so iconic
- 35:22as Rich Froning...
- 35:24Oh, no.
- 35:26Is it gone?
- 35:29I lost it.
- 35:31Oh, no.
- 35:36I had it.
- 35:41I think I lost it.
- 35:44Oh, no, here we go.
- 35:46When someone like Rich Froning
- 35:49wears the rocky balboa
- 35:51shorts in an open workout
- 35:54the icon himself that when
- 35:57he ripped off the
- 35:59basketball pants to reveal
- 36:02the rocky balboa shorts
- 36:04that's america that's
- 36:07america right there the
- 36:11next thing on my list is
- 36:15and this is going to have a
- 36:16little bit of a riff in it um
- 36:24clear out some of these tabs
- 36:31is I love me some fireworks.
- 36:34Fireworks make me feel like America.
- 36:39I love the booms.
- 36:40I love the explosions.
- 36:43And here in Columbus,
- 36:44we have a massive fireworks
- 36:45display downtown.
- 36:47It is supposed to be the
- 36:48largest fireworks display in the Midwest.
- 36:52And it takes up most of downtown.
- 36:56And I love me some fireworks.
- 36:58But last night,
- 37:00they opened the show with
- 37:02something that doesn't make
- 37:03me feel America.
- 37:05And I'm already over it.
- 37:10And that is... I think it's this one.
- 37:17Is this the drone shows?
- 37:22What the hell is this?
- 37:25They did a drone show for like,
- 37:26fifteen minutes prior to the fireworks,
- 37:29and it made no sense to me.
- 37:32There's no sounds, there's no booms,
- 37:35there's no echoes,
- 37:38there's no... It's just...
- 37:43you get little shapes in the
- 37:44sky all done by computer
- 37:48and I guess it's kind of
- 37:50cool for a couple minutes
- 37:52but fifteen minutes not not
- 37:55nice not nice at all give
- 37:59me my fireworks leave the
- 38:01drones alone all right so
- 38:06fireworks america drones not america
- 38:13Then the next thing is,
- 38:16and I meant to bring down
- 38:17the album to show you,
- 38:19the album is Nothing Makes
- 38:22Me Feel America More Than
- 38:23When Ray Charles Sings
- 38:26America the Beautiful.
- 38:28When he sings America the Beautiful,
- 38:30he does it in a way that
- 38:31just makes me have goosebumps.
- 38:34Nobody else can do it.
- 38:36And I don't care how many
- 38:37years in a row I've heard that song.
- 38:40It never grates on my nerves.
- 38:42Just give me some Ray
- 38:43Charles singing America the Beautiful.
- 38:50Denise,
- 38:51drone shows and three-D movies get
- 38:52the same meh for me.
- 38:58I hear you.
- 38:59I hear you.
- 39:01Yeah.
- 39:02The three D movie thing.
- 39:03I'm over that too.
- 39:05Just let me enjoy the movie.
- 39:09So Ray Charles, America, the beautiful, uh,
- 39:14the next thing on my list for America is
- 39:29Bald eagles.
- 39:32Nothing gives you a goose
- 39:33bump more than seeing a
- 39:35bald eagle in the wild.
- 39:39Where I live in Western Pennsylvania,
- 39:42there's a couple areas
- 39:43around where I live where
- 39:45there are eagle's nests.
- 39:48And one of them is on the
- 39:50way to get back here to
- 39:52Columbus from my mom's
- 39:54house in Pennsylvania.
- 39:56My wife and I were driving down this road.
- 39:59It's like a freeway.
- 40:00It goes down from one
- 40:02mountaintop and into a
- 40:03valley and then up into the
- 40:05other side of the mountaintop.
- 40:07We hit the valley one time
- 40:10and an eagle literally came
- 40:12by flying right beside the window.
- 40:16Talk about one freaking you out,
- 40:18two majestic and beautiful
- 40:21and three goosebumps from hell.
- 40:24Man, that's America right there.
- 40:26They are the most amazing,
- 40:29beautiful birds you could ever imagine.
- 40:31And to see them in the wild
- 40:33is just amazing.
- 40:37So my final,
- 40:40final America thing is going to be this.
- 40:46And I am going to be very specific.
- 40:51And it is hot dogs.
- 40:52This is my favorite kind of hot dog.
- 40:57And that is the Chicago style hot dog.
- 40:59But every Fourth of July,
- 41:02I got to have a hot dog.
- 41:05Some years we do the footlong.
- 41:06Some years we do regular dogs.
- 41:12But we always have hot dogs
- 41:13on the Fourth of July.
- 41:15That is what my wife and I do.
- 41:18This is the Chicago dog.
- 41:20It has got tomatoes on it.
- 41:22It's got peppers.
- 41:23It's got pickle and mustard
- 41:25and the green relish,
- 41:26the bright green relish on
- 41:28a poppy seed bun.
- 41:31And you got to get that.
- 41:32It's like a red snap hot dog.
- 41:35It is freaking amazing.
- 41:37If I can't get a Chicago hot
- 41:39dog made the way I want it made,
- 41:41then I just like ketchup, onion,
- 41:44and nacho cheese.
- 41:46Nacho cheese.
- 41:50That's what I want.
- 41:51So either Chicago style hot dog or ketchup,
- 41:56onion, nacho cheese.
- 41:59What do you like on your hot dog?
- 42:04Oh, cross fat says cat ketchup.
- 42:06Gasp.
- 42:07Yeah.
- 42:08My wife is a mustard fiend.
- 42:11We have to buy like mustard
- 42:13by the keg as much as she puts on stuff.
- 42:18It's funny because like on the Chicago dog,
- 42:19I would never put ketchup.
- 42:21Like it's got to be mustard.
- 42:25But man, if I'm just, I don't know,
- 42:27getting a plain dog, I just want ketchup,
- 42:29onion, nacho cheese.
- 42:30It's the ketchup and nacho cheese.
- 42:32That's the mix I like.
- 42:34That's the mix I like.
- 42:37It's the nacho.
- 42:37If it wasn't nacho cheese,
- 42:41then I would not want ketchup.
- 42:42I'd want mustard.
- 42:45But it's a nacho cheese and
- 42:46ketchup mixture,
- 42:47which is awesome on fries, by the way,
- 42:49too.
- 42:53I don't even know what to
- 42:54think about this.
- 42:55Mayo is sneaky good on a dog.
- 42:57Duke's mayo.
- 43:00Oh.
- 43:02I don't know.
- 43:05Can't handle that.
- 43:06Plain hot dog for me.
- 43:07That's Denise.
- 43:10Well, that's a shame.
- 43:10That's just not even fun.
- 43:14and then Jody Lynn
- 43:14Portillo's hot dogs growing
- 43:16up was a staple.
- 43:19I've only had Portillo's one time and it,
- 43:22it did not go well in my stomach.
- 43:24I will just say that Jody Lynn,
- 43:25it was not enough.
- 43:27It was a Portillo's in Fort Wayne,
- 43:29Indiana.
- 43:30So it was not an authentic
- 43:31Chicago Portillo's.
- 43:33So I,
- 43:34I don't want to judge them based on a
- 43:37franchise that may have
- 43:38screwed the pooch.
- 43:43Um,
- 43:46wiener circle there you go
- 43:51uh denise says how about a
- 43:52pretzel bun I I like a
- 43:54pretzel bun if it's toasted
- 43:56you gotta toast it if you
- 43:57don't toast it it's just it
- 43:59just gets a little bit
- 44:00harder and um uh and it's
- 44:07harder to eat so that's my
- 44:11thing uh cross fat uh
- 44:13wriggly dogs never been to wriggly field
- 44:17been to soldier field,
- 44:19never been to Wrigley field,
- 44:22but I'll have to try that out sometime.
- 44:25Uh,
- 44:25I actually have a friend who I judged
- 44:27with and he's moved up to judge ranks.
- 44:29He's like head judge at
- 44:31major comps through the CrossFit world.
- 44:34Uh, and he lives in Wrigleyville and, uh,
- 44:37maybe go see him sometime and, uh,
- 44:40get some authentic Chicago dogs, uh,
- 44:45for sure um denise says I'd
- 44:48rather have a brat brought
- 44:49to um I like italian
- 44:53sausage better than brought
- 44:55um but I I see where you're
- 44:56at um for me if I'm going
- 44:59to make a brat I want it to be like
- 45:02Uncooked in the casing,
- 45:04I boil it in beer and then
- 45:06throw it on the grill just
- 45:07to give it some flavor.
- 45:10But I prefer Italian sausage,
- 45:13hot Italian sausage.
- 45:15That's me.
- 45:18But if you're in Columbus, Denise,
- 45:20when you come,
- 45:21there's a store here called Schmitz,
- 45:23and they have every kind of
- 45:25worst and sausage you can imagine.
- 45:27It's Schmitz in the German village.
- 45:30They are authentic.
- 45:34They're as authentic as authentic can be,
- 45:36and they have German potato salad.
- 45:38They have all the kinds of kraut,
- 45:41the purple kraut, the yellow kraut,
- 45:44everything you can imagine German-wise.
- 45:46It's a great place to go and
- 45:48check out when you're here in Columbus.
- 45:54So there you go.
- 46:01George Wang watching Joey
- 46:03Chestnut win the Coney
- 46:04Island contest on July fourth.
- 46:06Yeah.
- 46:07We talked about the top of the show.
- 46:08I don't like eating wet,
- 46:10soggy buns and plain hot
- 46:13dogs just doesn't catch my
- 46:15interest anymore.
- 46:17That's why we're doing the show.
