👍HOW To (Not to) Buy Silver & Gold Bullion 💰 · SILVER / GOLD / $UFD: Surviving Global Economic Shifts | RONS BASEMENT

• 0:00
Today we're joined by coin Shop Chris and I'm going to ask him a
• 0:04
question. I've never bought silver before
• 0:07
in my life. I'm new to silver stacking and
• 0:10
Chris is going to help guide me to avoid some pitfalls and some
• 0:15
things that I should do when I go on this new journey of buying
• 0:19
  silver. Chris, welcome to Ron's
• 0:27
Basement. Ron, week after week you have
• 0:30
done amazing job is I always enjoy coming back on Yeah, well
• 0:35
you know Chris, I don't own any silver or anything like that and
• 0:39
I'm new to stacking or maybe even for the viewer who's
• 0:42
joining us right now who has stacked silver or gold for that
• 0:46
matter for decades, we might have some helpful tips for them.
• 0:51
What's what's kind of the first thing you would tell someone
• 0:53
who's new to silver stacking in terms of things they want to
• 0:57
look out for as they as they start their journey?
• 1:01
Well, you know, the first thing I, I really like to ask for,
• 1:04
Ron, is where your mindset is. And what I mean by that, where
• 1:07
your mindset is, is are you afraid of the dollar collapsing?
• 1:12
Are you worried about the banks crashing down?
• 1:15
Are you trying to get your money out of the bank?
• 1:17
Where is, you know, you think the dollar is going to collapse
• 1:21
completely, You know, then then we talk about, well, how much
• 1:25
can you afford? How much do you want to buy
• 1:28
  today? Not buy, but transfer.
• 1:30
Excuse me, I say that all the time.
• 1:33
Or is this me a monthly thing? Is this me a quarterly thing?
• 1:38
You know, trying to get people's mindset.
• 1:40
So I mean let's let's just say. Your mindset is you think the
• 1:43
dollar is going to collapse at some point.
• 1:46
We don't know when I would recommend one ounce stuff.
• 1:49
Wrong generic. Not know really generic or cheap
• 1:54
coins from really overseas to like the Kangaroos.
• 2:00
You know, I mean you know I would stay away from the Eagles
• 2:03
with a new stacker at this at this time.
• 2:05
I would tell them maybe 90 percent 40% server at this time.
• 2:10
You want to gain as many ounces as you can for the cheapest
• 2:14
price, and when you're and when and when you're starting out.
• 2:19
Probably a good way to start is with with one ounce increments,
• 2:24
whether that be bars or rounds or coins.
• 2:28
But the key is, I think what I hear you saying is make sure
• 2:32
that you're getting good quality silver from a reputable source.
• 2:37
But maybe if you're just starting, don't run out and buy
• 2:40
a 100 ounce bar or something like that.
• 2:43
Well you know then you know you yeah repo sources like pinbacks
• 2:47
you know you're you're but your sponsor.
• 2:49
Yes. You know I don't have a promise
• 2:53
somebody new coming and buying a one ounce, 100 ounce bar.
• 2:56
It's just it's just how much you can afford.
• 2:59
You know you don't want to get something on and have to turn
• 3:02
around six months to a year and have to sell it right off the
• 3:05
bat. It's really silver and goes a
• 3:07
long time hold you. You know it's there if you need
• 3:12
it and what are you going to get back from it.
• 3:15
You don't want to. You really don't want to turn it
• 3:18
back in the Fiat unless you don't have to.
• 3:21
You you know it's it's really about your mindset.
• 3:23
You know Again we all go back to that is what you want out of
• 3:28
your silver. You know a lot of people.
• 3:30
There's a lot of Youtubers out there.
• 3:32
You, you know, and you talk about sometimes too, Ron, you
• 3:35
know, silver's going to go to the moon.
• 3:37
Gold's going to go to the moon. Yes, it could go to the moon.
• 3:41
But you know, we we have to be cautious about that, you know,
• 3:45
because we don't know if it's that's going to happen anytime
• 3:48
soon. It might take five years, 10
• 3:49
years might happen six months from now.
• 3:52
It might happen tomorrow. But don't over get don't
• 3:56
overspend what you can afford to spend at one time.
• 4:00
Yeah, and if and if you're going to buy physical metal, going to
• 4:04
buy the actual physical metal, don't buy it and expect that
• 4:08
you're going to turn around and flip it three weeks or even 3
• 4:12
months or maybe even three years later.
• 4:14
Because the spread between what the any coin shop or or bullion
• 4:20
dealer is going to buy it from you for and sell it to the
• 4:24
public for will will, will will significantly eat into your
• 4:29
profits. I mean I think if people are
• 4:32
buying physical metal they almost, you know they almost
• 4:35
have to buy it with a 5 or 10 year horizon or at least be
• 4:40
comfortable with that. Sure, something could happen in
• 4:43
the next three weeks or three months that that that makes the
• 4:46
price of the metal skyrocket. But don't count on that.
• 4:49
Make sure say what you're buying in your mind.
• 4:53
You're comfortable saying, yeah, I'll hold on to this for five
• 4:55
years or I'll hold on to this for 10 years or I'll hold on to
• 4:58
it for the rest of me. I've bought silver for 20 years.
• 5:02
I've never sold an ounce, right. I'm, I'm comfortable when I buy
• 5:06
silver that I'm not going to be faced with the prospect of of
• 5:10
needing to convert that, convert that back to Fiat at any time in
• 5:15
the immediate future. Sure, in a case of emergency,
• 5:19
you know, I know that I could do that, but I I think it's
• 5:23
important for people to realize it's not a a get rich quick
• 5:28
  scheme. Absolutely not.
• 5:30
And you know, and especially if you're a new stacker, you know,
• 5:34
I I would really highly recommend not advice.
• 5:37
I recommend this. Stay away from your graded
• 5:40
coins, your semi numismatics and your numismatics was what I mean
• 5:44
by that is like your Morgan. Dollars.
• 5:48
You know you want, you know all your Australian Cougar Bears or
• 5:53
the the crawlers. You know those have a carrier
• 5:56
Prem. Your Silver Eagles carry a
• 5:57
little bit of premium right? Right now.
• 5:58
Still, you know really. One ounce Buffalo rounds.
• 6:02
Those are the most recognizable rounds around the world.
• 6:07
Around the world. One ounce Buffalo rounds.
• 6:10
Pinbacks has them in stock last time I checked.
• 6:14
I don't remember the price on top of my head, but just you
• 6:16
know, we all gonna shop around and to see who has the best
• 6:19
price. That might be your local coin
• 6:21
shop. That might be an online dealer
• 6:24
that might be going to E on eBay you know but stay with you know
• 6:28
people have excellent feedbacks you know that Pinbacks pinbacks
• 6:33
is a sponsor of the channel. What I have found this has been
• 6:37
my experience and and I always recommend to people do your own
• 6:41
work, do your own due diligence. But but for me what I found with
• 6:44
Pembex, what I liked about Pembex was the quality and the
• 6:48
price. So to me that presented a very
• 6:50
good value proposition. When I compare their prices to
• 6:53
other online bullying dealers, they're better or at minimum
• 6:59
extremely competitive and I feel like I don't have to go
• 7:03
searching all over the place and spending hours and hours and
• 7:06
doing research on all these different companies that to me
• 7:09
it's kind of like a one stop shop where I know I'm getting a
• 7:12
really, really good value. If you're looking to buy gold,
• 7:15
silver or platinum, do yourself a favor and check out Pim Bex,
• 7:20
the online precious metals bullion dealer and sponsor of
• 7:24
Ron's Basement. I was a happy customer before
• 7:27
they offered to support the channel.
• 7:29
You'll find they have the best prices, quality and service.
• 7:34
I think Pim Bex is best, and you will too.
• 7:37
And be sure to tell him that you're from Ron's basement and I
• 7:41
want to circle back to something you mentioned earlier as well.
• 7:43
That I think's important, especially for the new stackers
• 7:46
out there. When Chris talks about
• 7:47
numismatic coins, he's talking about collectible coins, coins
• 7:52
that derive part of their value from the silver or gold content,
• 7:58
but also derive maybe as much or even more of their value from
• 8:03
  their collectibility perspective.
• 8:05
And the pitfall there is that if you're not an expert in that
• 8:09
field, it's very difficult for the average person to get a
• 8:13
really good value when buying numismatic coins.
• 8:16
And unfortunately, what sometimes happens is that
• 8:20
especially people new to stacking will be encouraged to
• 8:23
get into new numismatics and and and they wind up unfortunately,
• 8:29
sometimes vastly overpaying when really what they wanted to do
• 8:33
was to get their hands on some silver and gold.
• 8:35
And that's why the rounds or some of the sovereign coins with
• 8:39
the lower premiums, or this one ounce silver bars, or five ounce
• 8:43
silver bars, or 10 ounce silver bars, or gold for that matter,
• 8:47
often represent what is the best option for someone who's first
• 8:52
  getting into purchasing precious metals.
• 8:57
Absolutely, Ron, you you, you know, I mean, I've seen at the
• 9:02
shop that I work at Ron and you know, people come in and the
• 9:06
granddad died or the father died or the mother died who stacked.
• 9:11
And I've seen many times, there's a lot, a lot of fake
• 9:15
Morgan and peace dolls out there.
• 9:19
If you're really going to, if that's something anybody wants
• 9:22
to stack, you know, I got very few of those.
• 9:24
  I'll be honest, I don't stack those.
• 9:27
That to me they're they're not worth the money, but some people
• 9:30
love them. Go to a rapid old place, don't
• 9:34
even buy those off of eBay. I don't care how good their
• 9:38
feedback is, it's just too many fakes out there for those.
• 9:41
Make sure you're either buying something like pinbacks or your
• 9:45
local coin shopper on. I I can't stress that's the one
• 9:48
coin I will never buy off of eBay.
• 9:51
The is the 2 coins, the Morgans and the piece dollars.
• 9:56
I mean, I just won't touch them off there.
• 9:58
But you know, in another point on we got to cost average.
• 10:01
So let's say somebody's new and they got a couple 1000 bucks.
• 10:05
Well, they got 1000 bucks. Don't mean you're going to get
• 10:08
it all at one time, you know, get some one week, get some the
• 10:12
other week. Watch the price because the
• 10:13
price moves. We know the price moves all the
• 10:15
time. So if you can save yourself 6
• 10:18
bucks on the back end by not being all at once, you know 6
• 10:22
bucks it adds up quick. You, you know, I mean, I can't
• 10:28
tell anybody how, how to spend their money or how much to get
• 10:31
at one time. But now cost average is key.
• 10:36
You know, buy a little bit, buy a little bit every month, every
• 10:40
three months, every six months, every week, however you want to
• 10:44
do it, but can be consistent and you'll be amazed over time how
• 10:49
fast your your stack will grow. Now and I would like to make two
• 10:53
more points about this, Ron, I, you know another point about
• 10:55
cost averaging. If you're watching the silver
• 10:58
market and it goes down one day, goes down the next day, down the
• 11:02
next day, that is probably the time to start gaining a little
• 11:05
bit more because you want to try to buy on the way down.
• 11:08
Yeah. Could it go down more than that?
• 11:10
Yes, but we don't know. It's going to go down more than
• 11:11
that. Now if you start seeing a three
• 11:13
day run, drop, drop, drop, drop, that's when I come.
• 11:18
That's when my eyes start opening.
• 11:20
I'm I'm starting looking a little bit hotter now and trying
• 11:22
to get a little bit more you know because when it starts
• 11:26
going up three or four days I kind of back off because we just
• 11:29
don't know how much more it's going to go up.
• 11:31
I mean you know you you can play it that way too but my what I
• 11:36
what I look for is the three or four day dips in in a row run
• 11:40
then I really start zoning in Okay.
• 11:43
We're in a downfall, a little bit of a downfall, maybe a good
• 11:47
  time. And it's worked.
• 11:48
It's worked for me. And there's a couple items
• 11:52
everybody should have you, you know, and really they're all
• 11:57
cheap items. There's one little bit expensive
• 11:59
item I'm going to talk about. Then we will wrap this up
• 12:02
around, you know, there's a pocket pinger, probably about 20
• 12:06
bucks, you know, that would tell you if you're there's the Coin
• 12:10
Ping app that will work well with that, that will tell you if
• 12:13
your Morgan dollars real you. You know most of your world
• 12:16
known coins. It will work with gold.
• 12:21
A pocket scale line, You know, especially with a gram scale,
• 12:25
they're like 1015 bucks on the Amazon.
• 12:29
It's worth. It's worth that money you don't
• 12:30
need. Nobody needs a Sigma unless
• 12:34
you're really into stacking. You know, Sigma's cost good,
• 12:38
good 1100 dollars, 1200 bucks, 1000 bucks for used one.
• 12:42
You know this is something cheaper, Yes.
• 12:45
And if you really start stacking.
• 12:47
Get yourself a good fireproof safe.
• 12:49
I can you know you know that is 1.
• 12:52
The biggest thing I do recommend you know Amazon.
• 12:56
You know I I hate you. You can go everywhere you want.
• 12:58
But if if you if especially have an Amazon credit card Amazon
• 13:04
normally has the deal. You can pay it off in 12 months
• 13:06
with no interest. And I and I got a Tiger King
• 13:10
  safe. The made in China.
• 13:12
It's a good, you know, it's not the best say from, but it's
• 13:14
fireproof. It's that one one hour
• 13:16
protection if you have a fire. They're about 49 bucks.
• 13:20
That's the most. And if for the viewers in the
• 13:23
United States, if you're going to collect the American junk,
• 13:26
silver or coinage or gold coins, pick yourself up the US coin
• 13:32
book. You know, you can get them off
• 13:34
of Amazon, eBay, you know, some even online deals or sell those
• 13:39
  books. They're they're they're around
• 13:42
1215 bucks For the current issue.
• 13:45
The 2024 is out. Don't mean you gotta get the
• 13:47
2024. I recommend going on eBay and
• 13:50
gaining A backdated if you're new.
• 13:52
The prices have not changed that much for the past three years,
• 13:56
so save yourself a few bucks, put that few bucks towards an
• 14:00
ounce of silver and and you'll be happy.
• 14:05
Thank you, Chris. So yes, thank you Ron.
• 14:07
Sorry, I didn't mean to go on a long rant, but no, you you
• 14:10
provided a a multitude of information for I think
• 14:16
beginning stackers, intermediate stackers, and probably even the
• 14:21
advanced stacker may have learned a thing or two from you
• 14:23
for the people that are new. And correct me if I'm wrong on
• 14:25
this, Chris, you mentioned the Sigma machine that's a expensive
• 14:30
and if you said about $1100, it's most coin shops have them.
• 14:34
It's a little like scale type machine, but it actually can
• 14:39
confirm for you that like a silver coin is silver or that a
• 14:43
gold coin is gold. Is that is that correct?
• 14:46
  Well, it's not. It's really not a scale, it's
• 14:47
just a verifier and I I really don't know how the thing really
• 14:51
works wrong. But you know, it can read the
• 14:55
content of the metal. But the coin shops also have
• 14:58
what's called an XRF machine. Not all coin shops use them.
• 15:02
These machines are very, very expensive.
• 15:04
They're like 15 grand, 14 grand. Some, you know, some that I've
• 15:09
heard some shop owners have paid up to almost 20 grand for these
• 15:12
machines. They can analyze, they can.
• 15:15
Analyze the metal content. And it'll tell you exactly what
• 15:20
you know. It'll tell you exactly what
• 15:21
metal it is in that coin bar, what does whatever, so they
• 15:27
don't have to drill a hole in it and test us to see the real
• 15:31
silver. You know, a lot of coin shops
• 15:34
don't have me yet because they are expensive.
• 15:38
You know, we're forceful enough to have two of them in our shop.
• 15:43
But you, you know, so Chris, can I ask you a quick question about
• 15:46
  those machines? Absolutely.
• 15:48
Because I heard of, I heard a rumor that sometimes you like to
• 15:51
like stick your head on there and then press the button to see
• 15:54
what it comes up. And I'm going to recommend that
• 15:56
you don't do that anymore because we don't know what that,
• 15:58
what kind of, you know, radiation or whatever.
• 16:01
It's shooting into you. Well for first, first of all, I
• 16:04
went it when it worked. My head's too damn big because I
• 16:06
eat too many damn Ding dongs on. But.
• 16:12
Anyways, if everybody can give us a video or a thumbs up, share
• 16:15
it and subscribe. We really appreciate that
• 16:17
because that really helps us get the word out.
• 16:20
Yeah, we do. We appreciate everybody being
• 16:22
here and I'm thinking maybe Chris, next thing he's going to
• 16:24
say to me as well maybe they maybe we need to do a ping test
• 16:27
on my head, right? I'm not going to comment on that
• 16:31
  one. It's hollow.
• 16:33
It's hollow in there. Well, you know, maybe I would
• 16:37
text Susie and Steve if she wants to get your brain scan.
• 16:40
So, yeah, they're here. Let me see.
• 16:42
  Yeah, I'm pinging. Yeah.
• 16:43
It's definitely sounds, definitely sounds hollow.
• 16:47
Chris, thank you so much. There's something really wrong
• 16:49
up there or something right now you're.
• 16:52
I'm not you don't have to tell me that brother.
• 16:54
Have a good have a good rest of the day.
• 16:56
On behalf of all the viewers, thank you.
• 16:58
Coin Shop Chris you're very generous.
• 17:00
If you want to support Coin Shop Chris, there's links in the
• 17:03
description of this video. It says support Coin Shop Chris
• 17:06
here and that'll show you a way that you can you can show some
• 17:10
some support for Chris. Chris, we'll talk to you soon.
• 17:13
Thank you. And I and I appreciate all the
• 17:15
support and I thank you, Ron. Thank you very much.
