- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody good. Morning I just finished doing
- 0:31all of my morning chores and for me, I love calling it that.
- 0:37It doesn't bother me I don't think of it in terms of like,
- 0:40oh, that's a bad thing to talk about chores.
- 0:43I actually it's just part of my world so I don't think about it.
- 0:48These are just the things that need to be done to care for
- 0:50everything, and I'm happy to do them.
- 0:52And one of the interesting things about being on a farm is
- 0:57that the mornings are very, very routine and you have things that
- 1:01have to be done. Chickens have to be taken care
- 1:04of. Feed the birds.
- 1:06Make sure all the plants came through the evening OK.
- 1:09Check to see if anything got hurt in the garden overnight or
- 1:13eaten overnight. Make sure everything is good.
- 1:16Pull any vegetables that are ready and because they're
- 1:20starting to, you know, be ready, double check and make sure all
- 1:23the bird feeders are full. Everybody has water for the day.
- 1:27In this heat, no plants look saggy.
- 1:29So this process from getting everybody taken care of besides
- 1:33my dogs, it, it, it takes a good 90 minutes.
- 1:37Like if I'm really honest, it takes a good 90 minutes just
- 1:41because I know I'm going to be distracted when I'm doing it.
- 1:45And, and it's not a bad distraction.
- 1:47It's like I come out, I take pictures with my camera.
- 1:50I'm not just my phone camera, but I actually will come and
- 1:53take pictures of flowers that have started to bloom overnight.
- 1:57Like I've got a lot of dahlias that are coming up right now and
- 2:01they're bursting open. And the thing about these
- 2:03dahlias is I grew them from seeds.
- 2:05So I didn't buy bulbs knowing what was in the package.
- 2:08I grew them from seed, which I find to be like, do you remember
- 2:12when you were a kid and you'd go into a candy store and you'd buy
- 2:15the little brown packages of things that were like, it's a
- 2:18mystery pack and you open it and you get so excited and you
- 2:22didn't know what was in it. And most of the time it was crap
- 2:24that was in it. But you get so excited to buy it
- 2:26to see what could possibly be in it.
- 2:29Or you know, if you collected cards, any types of cards, you
- 2:33couldn't wait to open the package to see what's in it.
- 2:35That's how I feel about growing dahlia from seed.
- 2:38And if you like surprises, I will tell you some of the best
- 2:41dahlia seeds like this I've gotten are from floret flowers.
- 2:45And it's the, the bees choice is what she calls them dahlia seeds
- 2:50from and it's called bees choice.
- 2:52And they are stunning. And, and guess what?
- 2:55On in, you know, underground, you're getting a dahlia tuber
- 2:59based on that flower. So if you really like it, you
- 3:02can end up pulling that out and making sure that you, you know,
- 3:06divide them, they're going to come back.
- 3:08It's a beautiful thing to to have this experience.
- 3:11But anyway, it is for me. But anyway, the chores are part
- 3:15of the fact that I set my day up to feel like I'm winning.
- 3:20So I I look at these chores and I think the mundane is
- 3:26miraculous, magical. It's moving to me.
- 3:30I, I truly believe that and I feel as though when I'm doing
- 3:34it, I and I stop and pause and I get quote UN quote distracted.
- 3:39I have so much more going in my mind.
- 3:42I have so much happening when that's going on, like as I'm
- 3:45walking and talking to you, I'm walking over to check another
- 3:49set of dahlia tubers that came up because I know like, wow, OK,
- 3:54this is really awesome. Maybe there's another surprise
- 3:57in this. Maybe it's something I didn't
- 3:59know about. And and you know, I get excited
- 4:03so it takes me longer. But in letting myself do that, I
- 4:06have this experience, this wildly wonderful experience of
- 4:10not knowing what I'm getting from moment to moment and it
- 4:14feels tremendous. So I am big on allowing those
- 4:19things to happen. I'm very big on letting yourself
- 4:22have experiences and see how things, you know, flow and show
- 4:27up. And I think when we do those
- 4:30things for ourselves, we give ourselves a lot more of a chance
- 4:34of enjoying the rest of our day because we are not being
- 4:38ridiculously rigid about stuff. And I feel as though when we do
- 4:43that, everything else in the day feels better, flows better, and
- 4:48shines better. So look for the mundane to be
- 4:52magical. Look at your chores and love
- 4:55them. Because even if there's a
- 4:58distraction, it's going to lead you to something wonderful, at
- 5:01least if you focus on that. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:05you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:07Bye.
