- 0:00Dubai's roads are getting, well, quieter and
- 0:03cleaner. Last year, the Emirates saw this massive
- 0:07acceleration in its shift to green mobility.
- 0:09I mean, electric vehicles are gaining some serious
- 0:12traction. You've been looking at the latest report
- 0:15from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority,
- 0:18or DIWA, and the numbers are pretty striking.
- 0:22They really are. So by the end of 2025, the number
- 0:25of EVs in Dubai jumped to nearly 48 ,000. That's
- 0:30a single -year increase of more than 10 ,000
- 0:33vehicles, or about 28%. This isn't a slow trickle.
- 0:37It's a wave of adoption. And you can't have that
- 0:41many EVs without the infrastructure to support
- 0:43them, right? What's the secret behind that growth?
- 0:46Well, it's a combination of strategy and partnership.
- 0:50Diwa's Green Charger initiative has now supplied
- 0:53enough power for, get this, over 276 million
- 0:57kilometers of emission -free travel. But the
- 1:00key driver, that was a new regulatory framework
- 1:03they launched in late 2024. It basically streamlined
- 1:07the whole process for both Diwa and private companies
- 1:11to build out the charging network. And that network
- 1:14now stands at over 1 ,000. So this is all a core
- 1:19part of Dubai's larger environmental strategy.
- 1:23Precisely. The vision was laid out perfectly
- 1:25by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Altair, the
- 1:29MD and CEO of Diwa. He actually stated, Diwa
- 1:33is committed to reinforcing the UAE's regional
- 1:36leadership in the adoption of electric and hybrid
- 1:39vehicles, while supporting Dubai's pioneering
- 1:42role in green and sustainable mobility. According
- 1:45to the directives of the WISE leadership and
- 1:48in alignment with the UAE's Net Zero 2050 strategy
- 1:51and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, we
- 1:56are collaborating closely with our partners to
- 1:58strengthen Dubai's successful plans. and enhance
- 2:01its competitiveness as it transitions towards
- 2:04sustainable and environmentally friendly transport,
- 2:07aiming to improve air quality and reduce carbon
- 2:10emissions within the sector. That's a powerful
- 2:13statement of intent, and we're already seeing
- 2:16it translate into these huge deals with entities
- 2:19like the Dubai Taxi Company, Parkin, and Enoch,
- 2:22and they're planning to install hundreds of new
- 2:25ultra -fast chargers. It really seems like the
- 2:28momentum is only just beginning. Exactly. They
- 2:32are building the infrastructure not just for
- 2:34today, but for a fully electric future. Now,
- 2:37here's a question we'd like you to think about.
- 2:39As public charging infrastructure becomes as
- 2:42common as, say, the traditional petrol station,
- 2:45how might that change not just where we drive,
- 2:48but how we design our cities and our communities?
