- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike, We are back with the head coach of
- 0:03Speaker 1: the undefeated Seattle crack in Lane Lambert Lane a perfect
- 0:07Speaker 1: two and I went home to begin the year two
- 0:09Speaker 1: to one thrilling overtime win against Vegas. What in your
- 0:13Speaker 1: mind was the catalyst to that victory for Seattle against
- 0:17Speaker 1: the Golden Knights.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I thought, we you know, I just thought we competed.
- 0:22Speaker 2: We had a game plan going in, we stuck to
- 0:23Speaker 2: the game plan, and you know, I thought we turned
- 0:30Speaker 2: the game into a low event game, which you know,
- 0:34Speaker 2: in my mind worked to our advantage and we took
- 0:37Speaker 2: advantage of our opportunities. So you know, there's there's a formula,
- 0:43Speaker 2: and I thought the guys did a really good job
- 0:45Speaker 2: of sticking to that formula. We had some greatest saves
- 0:48Speaker 2: when we needed them, and of course so did they.
- 0:50Speaker 2: So it was a very close hockey game.
- 0:53Speaker 1: After a slow start against Anaheim, you guys bounce back
- 0:56Speaker 1: in the second and third periods wasting little time against
- 0:59Speaker 1: the Vegas Golden Night it's getting off to that good start.
- 1:01Speaker 1: What was the message to the group going into that game?
- 1:04Speaker 1: And where do you find the biggest differences between game
- 1:07Speaker 1: one and game two?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Live for Seattle, I just think that, you know, the
- 1:11Speaker 2: starts for both games were different because the first one
- 1:14Speaker 2: was the first game. The first one was a bit
- 1:16Speaker 2: of nerves home opener, all that stuff, and then the
- 1:18Speaker 2: second one, I think we settled more in and you know,
- 1:23Speaker 2: not everything was quote unquote new, whether it be you know,
- 1:28Speaker 2: coming to the rank, what are the meetings look like
- 1:29Speaker 2: this that you know, everything was just a little bit
- 1:32Speaker 2: more you know, I guess familiar, and it led to
- 1:37Speaker 2: us getting to a better start.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Looking at some individual performances from the first two games,
- 1:42Speaker 1: Matty Beneers, Jared McCann, Joey Decord, all three of those
- 1:46Speaker 1: players have made big contributions for this team. What have
- 1:49Speaker 1: you liked about the leaders, the vets on this team
- 1:52Speaker 1: being your best players to kick off this campaign.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Well, Joey's been outstanding. Obviously, he's made you know, he
- 1:58Speaker 2: made some huge saves in the Anaheim game and we
- 2:00Speaker 2: needed him. He made some big saves in the Vegas
- 2:03Speaker 2: game as well. Certainly they had some opportunities in the
- 2:05Speaker 2: first period again, but so did we, you know. And McCann,
- 2:11Speaker 2: you know, he's obviously the overtime goal, but certainly the
- 2:15Speaker 2: goal against Anaheim to give us a little breathing room,
- 2:18Speaker 2: and the start of the third period, he's he's a
- 2:21Speaker 2: high skilled guy and he's a goal scorer, and you know,
- 2:25Speaker 2: it's nice to see him get off to a good start.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Mattie Beniers has played very well. You know, he's played
- 2:31Speaker 2: a two hundred foot game and he's done a lot
- 2:33Speaker 2: of good things in both ends of the rink.
- 2:35Speaker 1: The preseason's over, You've gotten two games under your belt
- 2:38Speaker 1: with your group. Where do you find this team has
- 2:41Speaker 1: improved the most? And a lot of coaches will say
- 2:43Speaker 1: it continues to be a work in progress. But how
- 2:46Speaker 1: have you liked that progress these first two games compared
- 2:49Speaker 1: to where they were against the final few preseason games.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, we've got our team together.
- 2:56Speaker 2: You know, that's the other thing about the first game,
- 2:58Speaker 2: maybe the first periods, we hadn't had a team together
- 3:00Speaker 2: really necessarily throughout exhibition. We've got our team together and
- 3:05Speaker 2: we're you know, again I will say it's a work
- 3:07Speaker 2: in progress. You know, we've we're coming together. We're starting
- 3:11Speaker 2: to do more things than not about what we've talked
- 3:17Speaker 2: about throughout training camp, and you know, we just got
- 3:19Speaker 2: to continue to grow and get better where you have
- 3:21Speaker 2: an extreme challenge here tonight against Montreal. You know, they're
- 3:26Speaker 2: a fast team, extremely fast, fast team at home, and
- 3:31Speaker 2: we're going to need a good start to this hockey game.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You mentioned the start. It's their home opener. They made
- 3:35Speaker 1: the playoffs last year for the first time in quite
- 3:38Speaker 1: some time, so their fans are ready, the organization is
- 3:41Speaker 1: ready to take that next leap in their progression. They've
- 3:44Speaker 1: got their young core signed through at least twenty thirty.
- 3:49Speaker 1: When you look at the Montreal Canadians, where do you
- 3:52Speaker 1: see this team in terms of their future but also
- 3:55Speaker 1: the types of problems you mentioned the speed that they
- 3:57Speaker 1: can present the Seattle this year.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, well, they've done a really good job of building
- 4:02Speaker 2: the team, and they've built it with a plan and
- 4:04Speaker 2: the plant is you know, they've got young, young talent,
- 4:08Speaker 2: and they've got some fast players and they played the
- 4:10Speaker 2: game quickly, and you know, obviously the future bodes well
- 4:14Speaker 2: for them. Making the playoffs last year was a big
- 4:17Speaker 2: confidence booster for them, I'm sure, and you know, and
- 4:21Speaker 2: they've got this city excited. And anytime the city of
- 4:24Speaker 2: Montreal is excited about the Canadians, it's a pretty good thing.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And you know, there's certainly is an area around here
- 4:32Speaker 2: that you don't see in many other cities.
