- 0:00katie: How to survive the two-week wait without sabotaging your fertility and losing your mind on the way.
- 0:07Welcome to the Finally Get Pregnant Naturally podcast, the podcast helping women identify the real reasons you haven't conceived or stayed pregnant so you and your partner can finally grow the family of your dreams.
- 0:21I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:22Katie Wood.
- 0:23Let's dive in, shall we?
- 0:26katie: Here's three things you'll gain from today's episode: why the two-week wait is uniquely unbearable for you as a high-achieving woman, and why the scramble or the symptom tracking, over-researching, trying to decode every twinge is working against you in
- 0:45katie: real time, and your fertility prescription for redirecting that energy into the one thing that will actively support implantation right now.
- 0:57katie: So let's dive in and talk about why is the two-week wait so dang hard, right?
- 1:05katie: It's two weeks, which is a long time.
- 1:07katie: It can feel like forever, and you're just waiting to see, are symptoms gonna show up?
- 1:14katie: When can I take a pregnancy test, right?
- 1:17katie: It can literally just feel like the longest two weeks ever, especially when you're someone who's used to being able to play an active part in things.
- 1:29katie: Every other phase of your cycle gives you something to do, right?
- 1:32katie: The follicular phase, you're able to track, you're able to take your supplements, you're able to time the baby dance, you're able to optimize this and that.
- 1:44katie: And then it's like once ovulation happens, once you time your fertile window, you're just waiting, right?
- 1:50katie: The two-week wait takes all of that perceived control, we'll call it, away.
- 1:58katie: And if your entire identity is built on solving problems and taking action, sitting around in not knowing is genuinely one of the hardest things you will ever do.
- 2:11katie: I remember it killing me in the two-week wait.
- 2:15katie: And if you've been through a loss, if you already know what that feels like, then this wait period is not so neutral, right?
- 2:24katie: You're not sitting in this neutral hope.
- 2:28katie: You're almost bracing yourself for bad news.
- 2:31katie: Every twinge, every symptom, every absence of a symptom becomes data you are trying to decode.
- 2:39katie: So you fill in the space with what I like to call the scramble.
- 2:44katie: You find something to do, something to research.
- 2:47katie: You open the app.
- 2:49katie: You Google seven days past ovulation symptoms.
- 2:53katie: You read the forums.
- 2:54katie: You calculate how early can I take a pregnancy test, right?
- 2:59katie: You're logging every cramp, every twinge, every change, and it feels like data- It feels like you're doing something, like you're being an active participant, but here's what's actually happening.
- 3:12katie: Your nervous system is scanning, constantly scanning your environment for a threat, and that scanning, that hypervigilance in your body, is itself a stress response.
- 3:26katie: It might not feel that way 'cause it feels productive, but that is a stress response, one that raises your cortisol, suppresses progesterone, and creates the exact internal environment that can sabotage the very thing you desire.
- 3:42katie: So here's your reframe on the two-week wait.
- 3:46katie: I like to call it holding the line or holding the energy.
- 3:51katie: So holding space for this is not passive.
- 3:57katie: Holding is one of the hardest and most beneficial things you can do because it requires redirecting that same energy you would spend solving outward into something internal and more intentional.
- 4:13katie: So holding the line means not spiraling when a symptom appears or disappears.
- 4:20katie: Holding the energy means keeping your nervous system regulated so cortisol stays low and progesterone stays supported.
- 4:28katie: Holding the trust means staying in the realm of possibilities that something may already be happening, and that your job is to protect the conditions, not to decode the outcome.
- 4:44katie: Holding the environment means nourishing your body, sleeping, taking your supplements, moving your body gently, not because those things guarantee anything, but because they are the active, purposeful roles available to you right now that you can steward your body
- 5:02katie: and fertility, which in turn is gonna help you staying feeling good and positive.
- 5:09katie: And that's not doing nothing.
- 5:10katie: That's being super intentional about...
- 5:14katie: Let's remember the miraculous and divine possibilities that take place in the two-week wait.
- 5:22katie: And if you've spent your whole life achieving through action, then purposefully choosing to hold the energy instead of scramble is the highest performing move available to you in this phase of your cycle, the luteal phase.
- 5:37katie: Okay?
- 5:38katie: So here's your fertility prescription this week.
- 5:42katie: Every time you feel the pull or the nudge to open the app, Google a symptom, or decode what your body is doing, pause.
- 5:53katie: Name it.
- 5:55katie: What are you going for?
- 5:56katie: What is the outcome that you're looking for?
- 5:57katie: What are you trying to do, right?
- 5:59katie: Name it.
- 6:00katie: See it for what it is.
- 6:01katie: That is the scramble.
- 6:04katie: And then catch yourself, right?
- 6:06katie: No- without blame or shame, right?
- 6:08katie: No judgment here.
- 6:09katie: And then redirect yourself.
- 6:11katie: Ask yourself, "What is one holding action I can take right now?"
- 6:16katie: You could go eat something warm and nourishing.
- 6:19katie: You could go outside and feel the sun on your skin.
- 6:24katie: You could pray, journal, focus on your breath, drink a glass of mineralized water, put your legs up the wall, take three slow breaths, say something true and kind to your body.
- 6:40katie: And if needed Allow yourself to feel the weight of it, the hope, the fear, the desire.
- 6:48katie: Take note that your subconscious mind is trying to keep you safe by bringing you, pulling you into the scramble, but it's also what is actually keeping you stuck.
- 7:01katie: So creating awareness around this and redirecting your energy is taking you out of waiting mode and opening you up to receiving mode.
- 7:11katie: And that is the most active, most intentional, most biologically supportive thing you can do right now in the luteal phase in your two-week wait.
- 7:22katie: So just an example, I am an online fertility coach, so I am supporting my clients on my phone.
- 7:31katie: I'm engaging with my fertility community on Instagram.
- 7:35katie: I'm having conversations with many men and women in my DMs, trying to support them in the best way that I can.
- 7:42katie: So oftentimes I will find myself just going to my phone to open my phone to open an app, whether it's my private messenger app for my clients or whether it's Instagram to connect, and a lot of the times
- 7:57katie: I don't actually have an intention for what I'm even trying to do.
- 8:00katie: I'm just like mindlessly opening these apps, and I'm trying to be really clear and intentional about, okay, why am I opening this?
- 8:08katie: Am I actually in a space right now to be able to answer any fertility client questions?
- 8:15katie: Am I in a space right now to engage with my community on Instagram?
- 8:21katie: And if I tell myself no, then I'm putting my phone down.
- 8:25katie: So it's kind of something like that.
- 8:27katie: So I really hope that you guys find that helpful.
- 8:29katie: This is such a pivotal piece inside Fertile as a Mother.
- 8:33katie: It's not just the clinical protocol, but learning how to be in this process in a way that supports your fertility instead of fighting it, and you don't have to do it alone.
- 8:45katie: So to recap, the two-week wait is not the stretch of time where you just have to sit on your hands, right?
- 8:53katie: Where you have to stop being a high achiever.
- 8:55katie: It is the stretch where you can purposefully and intentionally redirect that scramble energy into the one thing that matters most right now.
- 9:05katie: That's holding.
- 9:06katie: Holding the line, holding the energy, the trust, the environment.
- 9:11katie: Redirect that energy.
- 9:13katie: Become aware.
- 9:14katie: Name it without judgment.
- 9:17katie: That is your fertility prescription this week, technically for two weeks, because you're gonna be doing it in your two-week wait.
- 9:26katie: So if you have just really been struggling, maybe you've been on the journey for a long time, maybe you've experienced loss, maybe multiple losses, and it's really just starting to take a toll on you, I just want you
- 9:42katie: to know you do not have to do this alone.
- 9:46katie: You can have someone in your corner ready to go to bat for you, ready to hold space for you, especially in the two-week wait, right?
- 9:57katie: It's where we almost have to lay our armor down.
- 9:59katie: There's really not much more we can do, so to say.
- 10:06katie: The ovulation has happened.
- 10:07katie: The fertile window has happened.
- 10:09katie: You've played that active role, and then it's like we talked about on this episode, just holding that space, holding that energy while you wait for these divine miracles to happen.
- 10:24katie: So a lot of times, that's where I find my clients need the most support.
- 10:29katie: Yes, we go through all the nutrition and the lifestyle and their personalized protocols, but once all of that is said and done, then what we're really creating space to focus on is making sure that their nervous system is
- 10:44katie: regulated, and they're feeling good.
- 10:47katie: So that is something that I absolutely love to be able to offer as a piece of support in my one-on-one coaching programs.
- 10:59katie: So if you've been on this journey and you're just...
- 11:01katie: You're ready for answers, you're ready for support, you're ready to have someone in your corner you're done guessing, trying to figure it out, trying to piece together a plan.
- 11:11katie: You've done what your doctor has recommended.
- 11:13katie: It's still not giving you results.

- 11:34katie: There's no strings attached.
