In top news, the World Health Organization declared in 2023 that no amount of alcohol
• 5:05
is safe for health, challenging the notion that moderate drinking can be beneficial.
• 5:12
This statement, reinforced by research in the Lancet Public Health Report, categorizes
• 5:18
alcohol as a group 1 carcinogen, emphasizing its toxic and dependency-inducing nature.
• 5:26
Studies highlight increased cancer risks even with minimal alcohol consumption.
• 5:32
Additionally, University of Oxford researchers in 2021 linked any alcohol intake to reduced
• 5:39
  brain function.
• 5:41
In 2022, data from over 300,000 individuals indicated that light drinking elevates the
• 5:48
risk of hypertension and coronary artery disease.
• 5:53
It is important to note the perceived heart health benefits in light drinkers were attributed
• 5:59
to healthier lifestyles, not alcohol consumption.
• 6:03
Dr. Jurgen Remm suggests that while no alcohol is risk-free, the health risks escalate with
• 6:10
  higher consumption.
• 6:11
This growing evidence suggests re-evaluating our drinking habits, with an emphasis on reducing
• 6:17
  alcohol intake for better health.
• 6:21
In business news, Capital One is set to acquire Discover Financial Services in a landmark
• 6:28
$35.3 billion all-stock deal, forming a major global payments entity.
• 6:36
This move positions them as the sixth largest U.S. bank, directly competing with G.P. Morgan
• 6:42
  Chase and Citigroup.
• 6:44
The transaction offers Discover shareholders a premium of about 27% over the recent closing
• 6:50
price, with Capital One shareholders owning 60% of the new company.
• 6:56
The merger, expected to close by late 2024, aims to leverage scale and investment for
• 7:02
  competitive advantage.
• 7:04
However, it faces intense regulatory scrutiny under the Biden administration's focus on
• 7:10
boosting competition, including a 2021 executive order on bank mergers.
• 7:17
Experts predict significant pushback, especially considering heightened regulatory attention
• 7:22
on bank consolidation and credit card fees.
• 7:26
In crypto movement, Bitcoin is currently just under $52,000.
• 7:32
  Ethereum is just under $2,900.

  life.
• 10:27
  Sounds interesting.
• 10:29
Well alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day.
• 10:33
And today our quote is about dogs in honor of National Love Your Pet Day.
• 10:40
I don't remember where I heard it, but I recently heard someone say,
• 10:44
It can be sad to think that a dog will only be with us for a small period of our lives.
• 10:51
And it's hard to know that we may lose our best friend after such a relatively short
• 10:56
  period of time.
• 10:58
But just think, even though they were our best friend for only part of our lives, we
• 11:04
were their best friend for their entire life.
• 11:09
  And that's just magic.
• 11:12
And that's a wrap for this morning.
• 11:15
Remember to stay tuned tomorrow for more news and updates.
• 11:18
Have an amazing day my good friends.
