- 0:22SPEAKER_00: One of the most pervasive ideas in Western culture is the concept of finding your dreams.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Nobody knows for sure where this idea came from.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: It's probably been around in some form for as long as there have been stories about heroes and their goals.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: The idea of finding your dreams goes something like this.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: The main purpose of your life, vocationally speaking, is to find the dream that is out there somewhere.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: The dream is what you're meant to do.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: It's something that's granted by some otherworldly force or power.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And your task, should you choose to accept it, is to keep seeking and searching, defeating obstacles and naysayers until that dream becomes a reality.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Now, there's some truth to that story, of course.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Anybody who's achieved anything worthwhile has defeated obstacles and ignored the naysayers.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: But the main fault in this philosophy is that the dream is out there, quote unquote, somewhere.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And that if you work hard enough and you seek it out enough, you'll eventually find that dream out there.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: But the truth, my friends, is that dreams are not found.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: A dream does not exist out there somewhere.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: The whole idea of finding your dream is really based on the idea that you're a passive observer to your own life.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Truthfully, a dream doesn't exist anywhere outside of yourself.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: A dream is created from within.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: A lot of writers spend years or decades passively waiting for their dream to come true.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe they'll get discovered by an agent or a publisher.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Maybe that book will magically get written someday.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe somebody will hand them that opportunity they've been waiting for.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: But that's not how it works.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Yes, people do get discovered sometimes and their dreams come true, but for the vast majority of writers, our dreams become reality because we worked for them.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: We did the work, we put in the years of effort and we built our platform.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: We built our business and we built our success one brick at a time.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Now, I know a lot of people don't like to hear this because this idea of finding your dream is it's such a romanticized notion in Western culture.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: So what I'm telling you is though just the cold hard truth.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: But the cold hard truth is the most liberating thing you can ever possibly hear.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Your dreams are not out there somewhere.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Your dreams are in here, in your mind, they're in your heart.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: But it's up to you to do the work and to take those dreams from the realm of possibility and bring them into the realm of reality.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: So here's my question for you today.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Do you find this truth frustrating or do you find it liberating?
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: And why?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: One of the things that you've heard me talk about here on this podcast before is our Daily Rider Club, which is our membership community for writers.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: You've heard me mention it multiple times.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And one of the things that we do in this group is we help people take their dreams from the realm of, well, it might happen someday to the realm of, hey, let's make a plan and actually make this dream become a reality.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: We have people in our group who are publishing books, who are doing podcasting, who are getting new client work, who are achieving their goals because they're running with the horses.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: So running with the horses, that's a phrase the Bible uses, when it's talking about basically getting around the kind of people who can help you get to where you want to go.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: And I love that idea because, you know, a lot of us, uh, you know, it's a lot easier just to kind of run with uh run with the goats and run with the sheep and and honestly have no idea where this metaphor is going.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I'm totally making it up on the spot.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: But be that as it may, we don't want to sit around with the cows and the sheep and the goats.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: We want to run with the horses.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: If you want to run with the horses, if you want to run at a higher speed, if you want to accomplish your dreams and you want to make things happen in your riding life, then you really got to get around some people who can help you do that.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: And the Daily Rider Club is an absolutely phenomenal space for you to do that.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: So if you're looking for a group of people who can help you achieve those dreams and help you get where you want to go as a writer, this is exactly what you're looking for.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at dailyriderlife.comslash club.
