- 0:00There are a number of different management strategies we see in
- 0:03the world today. They range from attempts at
- 0:07total control, what we can call micromanagement, to total
- 0:12laissez faire release to permit individuals to do whatever they
- 0:16decide at each moment. Both of these extremes have
- 0:20their limitations. Micromanagement tends towards
- 0:24inflexibility and eventually fails to address changing facts
- 0:29and situations as they occur, while it also reduces initiative
- 0:35for the individual participants. Laissez faire freedom tends to a
- 0:40somewhat chaotic implementation without the central guiding
- 0:43principle or focus to Orient the action towards the intended
- 0:48goal. In a complex interaction.
- 0:52One can see the failure of the laissez faire approach in the
- 0:55idea of simply turning a Symphony Orchestra over to that
- 1:00method and hearing the mismatched sounds and timing
- 1:03that inevitably occur on the other side.
- 1:07Micromanagement suppresses the free will so entirely that those
- 1:12subjected to it tend to act mechanically and without
- 1:16thought, insight or consideration, as these have
- 1:20been taken away from them by the central manager.
- 1:24It is interesting to note that the Berlin Philharmonic
- 1:27Orchestra, one of the world's premier elite Symphony
- 1:31orchestras, is known for its unique and powerful
- 1:35performances. Because they have, through their
- 1:38intimate knowledge of the other members and their long rapport
- 1:42with each other, gone beyond being purely dominated by the
- 1:46strict control of the conductor and have found a way to blend
- 1:51their individual expression and personality into their
- 1:55orchestral performances. Management theories continue to
- 2:00work toward achieving something of an ideal balance between a
- 2:04central organizing and guiding principle and the flexibility
- 2:08needed in the implementation to address facts on the ground.
- 2:13One can see this play out in various military organizations.
- 2:17Some are extremely rigid and hold command and control within
- 2:21a centralized team. If communication is broken down,
- 2:26or if unexpected things occur in the operation, things can go
- 2:30wrong very quickly, leading in some cases to absolute disaster.
- 2:36One of the attempts to overcome this limitation is to have the
- 2:40leadership set specific objectives and goals, Set
- 2:43general boundaries and guidelines such as rules of
- 2:47engagement, but train the team that has to actually implement
- 2:52the plan to be resourceful and free within those boundaries.
- 2:58Some of the most elite military units in the world utilize this
- 3:02general approach. The balance between free will
- 3:07and destiny also partakes of a similar concern when applied to
- 3:11spiritual development. Some people hold that everything
- 3:15has been predestined down to the individual detail level in what
- 3:20is called the block universe theory.
- 3:23In this approach, free will is purely an illusion.
- 3:28If, however, the universal consciousness is evolving within
- 3:32a general framework, free will and destiny could actually
- 3:37coexist. The question about the guidance
- 3:40of the external being and its development in life to fulfill
- 3:44the spiritual aspiration of the psychic being revolves around
- 3:49these issues. If we assume that there is a
- 3:52complete control over every detail, we find that the
- 3:56external being, the body, the life energy and the mind tend to
- 4:02lose their initiative and in some cases actually rebel or go
- 4:07on strike when they feel like their needs and expectations are
- 4:11not being met. On the other hand, a flexible
- 4:15approach focused on a central aspiration and framework, but
- 4:19leaving the details to be worked out by the external instruments
- 4:23allows them a measure of development and growth that both
- 4:28makes them more effective over the long term and ensures that
- 4:33the acceptance is not grudging or withheld by the external
- 4:37being. This approach may take longer
- 4:41and may lead to divergences, errors or failures along the
- 4:45way, but in the end it brings about a stronger, more stable
- 4:51change in the consciousness and action of the external being
- 4:55that is supporting and aligned with the psychic beings intended
- 4:59direction. A disciple inquires Mother, is
- 5:05the orientation of an individual's life directed by
- 5:08the psychic? The mother responds, quote Yes,
- 5:14absolutely unconsciously for the individual most of the time, but
- 5:19it is the psychic which organizes his existence only in
- 5:24what may be called the main lines.
- 5:26Because for intervening in the details they would have to be a
- 5:30conscious union between the outer being, that is, the vital
- 5:35and physical being, and the psychic being.
- 5:38But usually this does not exist so externally in the details.
- 5:45For example, there was someone who in deep perplexity said to
- 5:49me, Well, if it is the psychic being or rather the divine in
- 5:54the psychic who directs our life, is it he who decides the
- 5:58number of pieces of sugar I put in my teacup?
- 6:02That was the question verbatim. So the answer had to be no,
- 6:08because it is not a detailed intervention of this kind.
