- 0:04Welcome to the Voices of Life podcast for Sunday,
- 0:08April 19th, 2026. I am your host, Pastor David.
- 0:14Voices of Life is a ministry of the Church for
- 0:17Life. Today we step into a powerful journey through
- 0:21history. A journey marked by revolution, political
- 0:26upheaval, and tragedy. And yet, through every
- 0:30shaking of the nation's the voice of God continues
- 0:35to speak. April 19th is a date that has carried
- 0:40the weight of human conflict and the hope of
- 0:44human courage. It is a date that reminds us that
- 0:48history is not random. It is a classroom, and
- 0:51God is still teaching. On April 19th, 1775, the
- 0:58world changed. Farmers, Merchants and ordinary
- 1:03citizens stood face to face with the British
- 1:07Empire. The shot heard around the world was not
- 1:13just a military moment. It was a spiritual one.
- 1:17It was the moment when people said, oppression
- 1:22cannot continue. Freedom must rise. Scripture
- 1:29echoes this cry. I have surely seen the affliction
- 1:34of my people, and I have come down to deliver
- 1:38them. Exodus 3, paragraphs 7 through 8. Revolution
- 1:47begins when people believe God sees them. Courage
- 1:56is not the absence of fear. Courage is obedience.
- 2:01in the presence of fear think of moses standing
- 2:06before the pharaoh what was he feeling esther
- 2:11standing before the king daniel standing before
- 2:17the lions and the apostles standing before the
- 2:23sedum history and scripture agree God uses ordinary
- 2:30people to confront extraordinary injustice. There
- 2:37is a cost to freedom. Freedom is never free.
- 2:41It is purchased with sacrifice. The early American
- 2:45patriots knew this. The early church knew this.
- 2:49Jesus himself knew this. Greater love has no
- 2:56one this. To lay down one's life for one's friend.
- 3:01John 15, 13. Revolution is not romantic. It is
- 3:10costly. And yet, God honors those who stand for
- 3:15righteousness. But when nations groan, heaven
- 3:23listens. Revolutions are not just political events.
- 3:28They are spiritual earthquakes. When injustice
- 3:32reaches a breaking point, the cry of the people
- 3:36becomes the cry of the earth. Paul writes, creation
- 3:43itself groans. Romans 8, 22. April 19th reminds
- 3:52us that God hears the groaning of nations and
- 3:55he responds. It is the hidden hand of providence.
- 4:04History is not a series of accidents. It is a
- 4:07tapestry woven by the hand of God. Even in conflict,
- 4:12God is at work preserving justice, protecting
- 4:15the oppressed, positioning leaders, preparing
- 4:20nations for transformation. The American Revolution
- 4:25was not just a political shift, it was a spiritual
- 4:28repositioning. Now let's reflect. Take a moment.
- 4:38Think about the battles you are facing. Think
- 4:42about the places where you feel outnumbered or
- 4:45overwhelmed. The same God who stood with ordinary
- 4:50people at Lexington and Concord stands with you
- 4:53today. You must find the courage to stand in
- 5:01your own life. Revolution is not always fought
- 5:06with muskets. Sometimes it's fought with decisions.
- 5:12You may be called to stand against injustice
- 5:15in your workplace, brokenness in your family,
- 5:18fear within your own heart. or spiritual oppression.
- 5:24Patterns that just have held you back for years.
- 5:29April 19th teaches us that standing is the first
- 5:33step toward freedom. To this, there are biblical
- 5:39parallels. When God starts a revolution, God
- 5:45has always been a revolutionary God. He overturned
- 5:50the Pharaoh's tyranny, Babylon's pride, Rome's
- 5:56oppression, sin's domination, and death's finality.
- 6:04Every revolution in scripture begins with God
- 6:07saying, enough. Now let's turn ourselves to the
- 6:15revolution within. Before nations change, hearts
- 6:20must change. The greatest revolution is not political,
- 6:24it is a spiritual revolution. Jesus launched
- 6:29the most powerful revolution in history. Not
- 6:33with weapons, but with truth. You shall know
- 6:37the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
- 6:41Freedom begins inside. Prayer for courage and
- 6:52clarity. I think prayer gives you the courage
- 7:01to stand, the wisdom to discern, the strength
- 7:05to endure, faith to trust God's timing. In reflection,
- 7:15why April 19th matters, well, April 19th is a
- 7:20hinge in history. A day when ordinary people
- 7:24stepped into extraordinary purpose. It reminds
- 7:27us that God uses the willing, strengthens the
- 7:31weak, honors the faithful, and responds to injustice.
- 7:36This is not just history. It is a spiritual blueprint.
- 7:45I always want you to remember that revolution
- 7:47begins when someone decides that an injustice
- 7:50cannot continue. And God stands with those who
- 7:55stand for righteousness. Stay with me as we enter
- 8:00into our next segment as we talk about and explore
- 8:05political turning. A kingdom that cannot be shaken.
- 8:18So let's take a look at, well, we already looked
- 8:26at the courage of ordinary people and God who
- 8:31hears the cry of those oppressed. So let's turn
- 8:34now to the theme woven into April 19th. Why this
- 8:39is a key hinge, political point, target date.
- 8:45Something that has been a focus in history. Starting
- 8:51with political turning points. Moments when nations
- 8:54pivoted, when leaders rose and fell. When systems
- 9:00shake and when the world must adjust to a new
- 9:03reality. History teaches us something scripture
- 9:07has declared for thousands of years. Earthly
- 9:12kingdoms are temporary. God's kingdom is not.
- 9:19So the fragility of human power. Political systems,
- 9:24let's face it, they're fragile. Governments shift,
- 9:28leaders change, empires rise and fall. But the
- 9:31word of God stands firm. His kingdom is an everlasting
- 9:36kingdom. His dominion endures through all generations.
- 9:41That's Psalm 145 verse 13. April 19th reminds
- 9:47us that no matter how powerful a nation appears,
- 9:51it is still subject to the sovereignty of God.
- 9:57Even when our leadership changes, God remains
- 10:00steady. Throughout history, April 19th has marked
- 10:03transitions in leadership, some peaceful, some
- 10:06turbulent. But scripture shows us a pattern.
- 10:11When Saul fell, God raised David. When Ahab fell,
- 10:17God raised Jehu. When Nebuchadnezzar fell, God
- 10:24raised Daniel. When Rome persecuted church, and
- 10:29it did persecute the church, God raised apostles
- 10:33who turned the world upside down. Human leadership
- 10:39is temporary. Divine leadership is eternal. Throughout
- 10:49history, the church's identity and political
- 10:52upheaval has always come into question. The early
- 10:55church lived under constant political instability.
- 10:59Emperors changed, laws shifted, persecution rose
- 11:03and fell. Yet the church never lost its identity.
- 11:06Why? Why is this? Because their identity has
- 11:11not tied to Rome. It was tied to Christ. This
- 11:24is a word for us today. The church does not rise
- 11:27and fall with pedagogical systems. The church
- 11:29rises and falls with its faithfulness to Jesus.
- 11:37And we have to caution ourselves in the danger
- 11:40of misplaced trust. Political turning points
- 11:42expose where people place their trust. Sometimes
- 11:46it's in leaders, sometimes it's in parties, systems,
- 11:50nations, or movements. But scripture warns us,
- 11:55put not your trust in princes, in mortal men
- 11:59who cannot save. Psalm 146, verse 3. Political
- 12:06power can influence society, but only God can
- 12:11transform the human heart. Historical Reflection,
- 12:17April 19th. the shifting nations. We've seen
- 12:20governments reorganize, leaders resign, nations
- 12:22redefine themselves, movements rise and fall.
- 12:26These moments remind us that history is always
- 12:29in motion. But God is always in control. Political
- 12:35turning points are not just historical events,
- 12:39they are spiritual reminders. There is a theology
- 12:46of nations. Scripture teaches us that God raises
- 12:51up nations, brings down nations, sets boundaries,
- 12:55appoints seasons, directs history toward his
- 13:01purposes. He changes times and seasons. He removes
- 13:07kings and sets up kings. That's Daniel 2 verse
- 13:1321. This means political change is not random.
- 13:18It is part of a larger divine narrative. And
- 13:24we have seen when nations have drifted away from
- 13:27God. History has shown us that nations fall when
- 13:32they reject justice, oppress the weak, embrace
- 13:36corruption, worship power, and forget God. Israel
- 13:41fell for these reasons. Rome fell for these reasons.
- 13:45Every empire that collapsed does so from the
- 13:50inside out. April 19th reminds us that political
- 13:54turning points often reveal spiritual decay.
- 14:01Church has a prophetic role. The church is not
- 14:05called to be silent in times of political change,
- 14:09nor is it called to be partisan. The church is
- 14:13called to be prophetic. Prophetic voices speak
- 14:17with truth, defend justice, confront corruption,
- 14:21protect the vulnerable, call nations back to
- 14:27righteousness. This is not political activism.
- 14:31This is biblical responsibility. A kingdom that
- 14:36cannot be shaken. Think about it. Where did that
- 14:41come from? That came from Hebrews 12, because
- 14:45it declared, we are receiving a kingdom that
- 14:48cannot be shaken. Political systems shake, economies
- 14:54shake, nations shake, history shakes, but the
- 14:58kingdom of God does not. This is the anchor for
- 15:07every believer. living through political uncertainty.
- 15:15There are times that in our personal lives, our
- 15:19world shifts. And it happens for political turning
- 15:24points that are not just national, but they're
- 15:27personal. People experience their own political
- 15:30earthquakes when jobs change, leadership change,
- 15:33relationships change, stability collapses. Life
- 15:39takes an unexpected turn. Happens several times
- 15:43in your life, not just once. The same God who
- 15:47steadies nations, steadies individuals. Let's
- 15:53take a look at some reflection. Take a moment.
- 15:59Where in your life is something shifting? Think
- 16:02about that right now. Where do you feel instability?
- 16:07Do you need God to anchor you? Let the Spirit
- 16:12speak. As I think of prayer for nations and leaders,
- 16:21I think of wisdom for leaders, peace for nations,
- 16:25justice for the oppressed, unity in divided societies,
- 16:30and boy, do we need that right now in the United
- 16:32States, strength for the church to stand firm.
- 16:42I think we know and understand that leaders may
- 16:47rise and fall, but Christ remains our Lord. Nations
- 16:51may shift, but God's purpose endures. I think
- 17:02at this point we talk about the heaviest themes
- 17:08connected to April 19th. resonate in modern times
- 17:14especially. Terrorism and tragedy. This is not
- 17:21an easy subject to talk about because some of
- 17:25us have loved ones that were affected, people
- 17:27we know. But it is a necessary one because faith
- 17:32cannot face tragedy alone. It has to face it
- 17:38together. Because faith cannot face tragedy is
- 17:43the faith at all. And a church that cannot speak
- 17:47into suffering has lost its voice. April 19th
- 17:53confronts us with the reality of human evil.
- 17:57The deeper reality of God's compassion. We'll
- 18:04start with the Oklahoma City bombing, a wound
- 18:07in a national soul. On April 19th, 1995, a truck
- 18:12bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Mayer building,
- 18:15that nice big federal building that used to stand
- 18:20in Oklahoma City. 168 lives were lost. Of them,
- 18:2719 were innocent children. Hundreds were injured,
- 18:31thousands traumatized, the nation was shaken.
- 18:34This was not just an attack. On a building, it
- 18:38was an attack on innocence. It was an attack
- 18:41on community. On the very idea we are safe in
- 18:48our homeland. And yet, even in the ashes, God
- 18:53was present. I visited the tribute to the Oklahoma
- 18:59City bombing to the victims. And I can tell you,
- 19:05it was very touching. And it reminds you of all
- 19:11vulnerability, our mortality, and how things
- 19:14can change in just a second. But we have to realize
- 19:20there is a reality of human evil. Scripture does
- 19:23not hide the existence of evil. It confronts
- 19:25it head on. Cain murders Abel. Herod slaughters
- 19:31infants. Judas betrays Jesus. The cross... itself
- 19:36is the greatest injustice in history the bible
- 19:39on the other hand is honest human beings are
- 19:44capable of breathing the good and they're also
- 19:50capable of devastating evil terrorism is a collision
- 19:59of hatred, deception, and spiritual darkness.
- 20:03It is what happens when a heart turns away from
- 20:06God and embraces destruction. So we ask ourselves,
- 20:10well, where was God? This is a question people
- 20:14ask in every tragedy. Where God was when the
- 20:19bomb went off? Where was God when the innocent
- 20:23suffered? Where was God? When evil struck? The
- 20:29answer is not philosophical. It's biblical. God
- 20:35was here. He always is. Even with the brokenhearted.
- 20:40That is Psalm 34 verse 18. And it declares the
- 20:44Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves
- 20:49those who are crushed in spirit. God was in the
- 20:55firefighters. pulling survivors from the rubble.
- 20:58God was in the nurses tending to the wounded.
- 21:02God was with the strangers who lined up to donate
- 21:05blood. God was in the pastors who prayed with
- 21:10the families. God was in the tears of the nation
- 21:14that refused to turn cold. God wasn't absent.
- 21:18He was present in the healing. Now let's speak
- 21:26to the theology of mourning. Jesus said, Blessed
- 21:32are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
- 21:37Mourning is not weakness, it's a spiritual honesty.
- 21:43We mourn because life is sacred, because evil
- 21:47is real, and because God mourns with us. In John
- 21:5311, Jesus wept at Lazarus' tomb, even though
- 21:59he knew resurrection was minutes away. Why? Because
- 22:06grief matters, loss matters, and people matter.
- 22:13Then we come across the weight of the collective
- 22:16trauma. Terrorism does not just wound individuals,
- 22:21it wounds communities, it wounds nations. It
- 22:25wounds the collective psyche. After Oklahoma
- 22:29City, people questioned, are we safe? Who can
- 22:34we trust? What kind of world are we living in?
- 22:40How do we move forward? These are not... just
- 22:45political questions they are spiritual questions
- 22:48and scripture answers them with clarity even
- 22:53though i walk through the valley of the shadow
- 22:56of death i will fear no evil for you are with
- 23:00me psalm 23 verse 4. god does not promise a life
- 23:07without valleys he promises his presence in the
- 23:11valley Now the church has a role in the time
- 23:18of tragedy. When tragedy strikes, the church
- 23:22must not retreat. The church must respond. The
- 23:27church is called for many things. To comfort
- 23:31the grieving, stand with the wounded, speak hope
- 23:34into despair, confront evil with truth, offer
- 23:42healing when the world offers numbness. The early
- 23:49church did this during persecution. The modern
- 23:54church must do this during tragedy. We are not
- 24:00spectators. We are first responders of the soul.
- 24:07The cross, God's answer to human evil. The cross
- 24:13is God's ultimate response to tragedy. At the
- 24:17cross, God did not avoid suffering. He entered
- 24:20it. He did not ignore evil. He confronted it.
- 24:25He did not abandon humanity. He redeemed it.
- 24:31The cross tells us evil does not get the last
- 24:35word. Death does not get the last word. And God,
- 24:41And only God gets the last word. We have to share
- 24:49stories of light in the darkness. In Oklahoma
- 24:53City, amid the devastation, stories emerged.
- 24:56A firefighter carrying out a child from the rubble.
- 25:00Strangers forming human chains to rescue survivors.
- 25:04Churches opening their doors day and night. Counselors
- 25:08volunteering without pay to help everybody with
- 25:13their emotional stress. Communities donating
- 25:18supplies faster than they could be used. These
- 25:23stories remind us that evil may strike, but goodness
- 25:27will always rise. Darkness may roar, but the
- 25:34light will shine brighter. So we need to take
- 25:40that and make a personal application of it. So
- 25:44when your world breaks, you know, we say terrorism
- 25:49is a national tragedy, but many people listening
- 25:53today are facing personal tragedies and they
- 25:56are just as important. You may be dealing with
- 25:59a loss, betrayal, illness, financial collapse,
- 26:04family breakdown, emotional exhaustion. The same
- 26:09God who comforted you, well, the same God who
- 26:15has comforted a nation can comfort you. The same
- 26:19God who healed a city can heal your heart and
- 26:23make you feel whole again. Let's take a deep
- 26:34breath. Let the weight this segment settle. Let
- 26:42the Spirit speak. Where are you hurting? Where
- 26:49do you need healing? Where do you need God to
- 26:53draw near? And for those that need healing, comfort,
- 27:03and strength, those grieving, traumatized, those
- 27:11carrying invisible wounds, those seeking hope,
- 27:15those needing God's presence. Let us pray. Heavenly
- 27:24Father, we ask for thy strength to help those
- 27:30in distress. Give them the strength, the courage
- 27:34to face their oppression, their injustice. and
- 27:38come out victorious. Your son died for our sins,
- 27:46and with the resurrection, it gave us hope and
- 27:51faith to the future. Give these people the same
- 27:56hope and faith. In Jesus' name, amen. Now let's
- 28:09take a look at our world when God rebuilds what
- 28:16history tried to break. We've already talked
- 28:21about the revolution, the political upheaval,
- 28:24and the tragedy and terror. So now we walk into
- 28:28hope. Not shallow optimism. Well, not wishful
- 28:37thinking, but the deep, unshakable hope that
- 28:40comes from God alone. April 19th teaches us that
- 28:43humanity is capable of both great courage and
- 28:47great cruelty. But scripture teaches us that
- 28:51God is capable of greater redemption. So we're
- 28:55going to be talking about rebuilding, restoring,
- 28:58and rising again. Because God never ends a story
- 29:02in ashes. He is a God who rebuilds broken places.
- 29:08Throughout scripture, God reveals himself as
- 29:11a rebuilder. He rebuilt Israel after exile. He
- 29:15rebuilt Jerusalem after destruction. He rebuilt
- 29:19the disciples after their failures. He rebuilt
- 29:24humanity through the resurrection. Nehemiah rebuilt
- 29:30the walls. Ezra rebuilt the temple. Jesus rebuilt
- 29:34hope itself. God is not intimidated by ruins.
- 29:39He specializes in them. As we look at his pattern
- 29:47of divine restoration, every restoration in scripture
- 29:51follows a pattern. There's a moment of devastation,
- 29:57a season of mourning, a call to rise, a work
- 30:00of rebuilding. That is the testimony of God's
- 30:05faithfulness. This is a pattern of the cross.
- 30:10This is a pattern of resurrection. This is the
- 30:14pattern of every believer who has ever risen
- 30:17from ashes. So what did Oklahoma City teach us
- 30:25about resilience? After the bombing, the nation
- 30:27watched something extraordinary unfold. People
- 30:31rebuilt communities. The communities healed.
- 30:37Faith deepened. Compassion multiplied. Hope returned.
- 30:41The Oklahoma City National Memorial stands today
- 30:45as a testimony that tragedy does not have the
- 30:49final word. The empty chairs remind us of loss.
- 30:55The survivor tree reminds us of resilience. The
- 30:59reflecting pool reminds us of peace. This is
- 31:04what God does with tragedy. He turns wounds into
- 31:09witnesses. When we think of the survivor tree,
- 31:17it is a living parable. The survivor tree, a
- 31:23100 -year -old American elm, stood near the blast
- 31:27site. It burned, it shredded, nearly destroyed,
- 31:30but it lived. It grew. And today it stands stronger
- 31:37than ever. That tree is a sermon. A living parable.
- 31:46It says, you may be hit, you may be wounded,
- 31:50you may be shaken, but you will not be destroyed.
- 31:55Paul wrote, We are hard -pressed on every side,
- 32:00but not crushed, struck down, but not destroyed.
- 32:07Corinthians 4, verses 8 through 9. So the resurrection
- 32:17was the ultimate rebuilding. Every tragedy in
- 32:22history finds a... And it's answered the resurrection.
- 32:26The resurrection is God saying, evil does not
- 32:29win. Death does not win. Darkness does not win.
- 32:32Fear does not win. The resurrection is the blueprint
- 32:38for every rebuilding. It is the foundation of
- 32:42Christian hope. It is the promise that no matter
- 32:46how deep the valley, God brings life again. And
- 32:53when you know our nations heal, people heal.
- 32:57That's part of the mourning process. Rebuilding
- 33:01is not just structural, it is spiritual. Nations
- 33:06heal when communities unite, justice is pursued,
- 33:09compassion is practiced, truth is honored, faith
- 33:14is lived out. Healing is not passive. It is active.
- 33:21It is a choice. So you may have a personal rebuilding
- 33:27project. Every listener today has an area that
- 33:32needs rebuilding. Maybe it's a broken relationship,
- 33:35a wounded heart, a lost dream, a damaged identity,
- 33:41a season of failure, a place. of deep regret.
- 33:48God rebuilds what you bring to him. He cannot
- 33:53rebuild what you hide. This is the hour to surrender
- 34:00the ruins. And there is a power in testimony.
- 34:07Rebuilding becomes complete when the story becomes
- 34:11a testimony. Your scars become someone else's
- 34:15hope. Your healing becomes someone else's courage.
- 34:19Your restoration becomes someone else's roadmap.
- 34:23Revelation declares they overcame by the blood
- 34:30of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.
- 34:35Your story matters. Your healing matters. Your
- 34:38voice matters. So let's Reflect. What is God
- 34:44rebuilding in you? Take a moment. Breathe. Let
- 34:49the Spirit in. What is God calling you to rebuild?
- 34:54What is God asking you to release? What is God
- 34:58inviting you to restore? A prayer of restoration
- 35:05and renewal. That's probably where we need to
- 35:08go next. pastoral prayer for you would include
- 35:13you healing, strength, courage, renewal, restoration,
- 35:19fresh hope, deep peace. I wish that all for you.
- 35:26I pray that all for you. Because in healing comes
- 35:32strength and courage and a sense of renewal.
- 35:38And with that, the restoration of your efforts,
- 35:43your focus, which brings fresh hope and deep
- 35:48peace. You have walked through history, scripture,
- 35:55tragedy, courage, and hope with me so far today.
- 36:00And we use the term history groans. There are
- 36:09a lot of things in history that cry out for help
- 36:13or cry out for justice from injustice. But when
- 36:25I think of you, I pray, may the Lord strengthen
- 36:33you where you are weak. May he rebuild what has
- 36:39been broken. May he restore what has been lost.
- 36:43May he renew what has grown weary. And may you
- 36:48walk in the unshakable hope of the kingdom that
- 36:52cannot be shaken. In Jesus' name, amen. Thank
- 37:01you for joining us today. I hope that we understand
- 37:07that while April 19th continues to be a focus
- 37:11in history, no matter what man, and I use that
- 37:16figuratively, throws at us politically and laws
- 37:21and justices, genocides, the things that go on
- 37:26today in war and peace, remember that God is
- 37:32with you. And will stay with you. And that's
- 37:38the most important thing to know. He is always
- 37:42there. He is there as a reference. He is there
- 37:46at your side. He is there to pray, to talk to,
- 37:49to pray to. Don't leave him out. Keep him embodied.
- 37:56Until next time, this is Pastor David on the
- 37:59Voices of Life podcast, the ministry of the Church
- 38:03for Life, and we will see you next Sunday, April
- 38:0826th, and we hope that you can join us again.
- 38:12Thank you, and have a wonderful day.
