- 0:46you part of the fam.
- 0:47It's lunch time.
- 0:48What's going on?
- 0:50Beautiful.
- 1:00So I know we try to have a
- 1:03lot of fun on this show.
- 1:05We try.
- 1:06But it is the twenty fifth anniversary of
- 1:09nine eleven.
- 1:10And I would be remiss.
- 1:12We're going to do I'm going to talk
- 1:13about it briefly.
- 1:14Yep.
- 1:15Because and then we're going to move on
- 1:17to have some fun and give you an
- 1:19escape for the day.
- 1:20But yeah, nine eleven impacted us.
- 1:23me and what i believe this country greatly
- 1:26twenty five years ago uh my daughter was
- 1:29six weeks old when nine eleven happened it
- 1:32was the first week at a babysitter for
- 1:35her my my wife's first week back to
- 1:38work when everything happened um my
- 1:44immediate reaction was how do i get to
- 1:46my kid right and and hold her right
- 1:52and uh thankfully the company i worked for
- 1:57let us go that morning and uh i
- 2:02went way too fast down the freeway to
- 2:05the babysitter to get my kid and to
- 2:08get her home regretfully my wife's company
- 2:10did not let them go and my wife
- 2:13was freaking out almost the entire day
- 2:16But I had my daughter at home,
- 2:19snuggled her, held her, did all the stuff.
- 2:24I still have nightmares about what I saw
- 2:27that day.
- 2:32I could still see the pictures from the
- 2:35news channels.
- 2:37Like it's clear as day in my head.
- 2:38Like, like it happened yesterday.
- 2:40I saw,
- 2:42I just brought my oldest to school,
- 2:44dropped her off for schools right across
- 2:46the body from where we live,
- 2:47dropped her off at school in the car
- 2:49line, got back.
- 2:51And as I got back, um,
- 2:55uh michelle had it on tv and the
- 2:58second plane at the tower and i just
- 3:00remember saying they were talking to
- 3:01somebody who was in an adjacent building
- 3:04whichever news channel she had it on and
- 3:05the guy said oh my god there's another
- 3:07one and it hit i'll never forget that
- 3:10as long as i live i will i
- 3:16Watching people jump from a hundred
- 3:18stories up to avoid flames is a horror
- 3:21that I cannot get out of my head
- 3:24and I cannot unsee.
- 3:26And it's something you don't ever want to
- 3:28have to comprehend, right?
- 3:30To have to make that choice.
- 3:32And right now, I want to cry.
- 3:34It's twenty-five years later,
- 3:36and I want to cry for those people.
- 3:42What I hate about this day is the
- 3:44people trying to spin their conspiracy
- 3:47theories today.
- 3:48You've got three hundred and sixty-four
- 3:50other days of the year to do that.
- 3:51yeah let it ride people let it ride
- 3:54today there were there were there were men
- 3:57and women running toward danger that day
- 4:01it's another thing that i can't comprehend
- 4:03in my own world but i'm so glad
- 4:06those people exist in my life yeah and
- 4:10the fact that they ran what i would
- 4:13consider the wrong way right to do
- 4:17whatever they could to save as many people
- 4:19as they could
- 4:23that is something we should never ever
- 4:25forget that there are people in this world
- 4:27that run into the danger to save lives.
- 4:33And that is pretty freaking cool.
- 4:36God bless them.
- 4:38I hope there's a special place in heaven
- 4:40for each and every one of them with
- 4:42what happened that day.
- 4:44But we lost a lot of people.
- 4:45We had a,
- 4:46we had a person at my old gym
- 4:47whose dad was in the tower that day.
- 4:51and you know he tells the stories and
- 4:53it is it's tough man and uh i
- 4:59just want to give a second to commend
- 5:02the people that did the brave things that
- 5:05day um and i wish i wish on
- 5:11september twelfth there was no
- 5:12divisiveness in this country and i wish we
- 5:16could get back to something like that
- 5:19I think it's a hope and a prayer
- 5:21more than a wish.
- 5:22Yeah.
- 5:23Every day I wish that I remember what
- 5:25September twelfth was like.
- 5:28And it was as tragic as the rest
- 5:31of it was.
- 5:32Those couple of days as a citizen of
- 5:35this fantastic country that we live in was
- 5:38it was amazing time to be alive.
- 5:41Everybody had everybody's back.
- 5:42It was amazing.
- 5:44No matter what you needed.
- 5:48You know, I grew up outside of Pittsburgh.
- 5:51There's a memorial right outside of
- 5:53Pittsburgh for a plane that went down
- 5:54there that sometimes gets forgotten.
- 5:59But it lost their lives that day.
- 6:03Yeah.
- 6:05We don't know where that plane was truly
- 6:06heading.
- 6:08We can make assumptions,
- 6:09but there were brave men and women on
- 6:12that plane that ran to danger too.
- 6:16Ran right into it.
- 6:19Quite literally ran right into it,
- 6:20knew it, knowing it, it was a,
- 6:23it was an un, unwinnable situation,
- 6:27no matter what was going to happen,
- 6:28but they tried anyway.
- 6:29So I,
- 6:30and who knows how many lives that saved.
- 6:33Correct.
- 6:35so with that our heartfelt thoughts in
- 6:39person the family and the friends of of
- 6:42people that not only died that day but
- 6:44died from the effects of that day in
- 6:47later years um it was a traumatic event
- 6:51i will never forget it it will be
- 6:53with me till the day i die and
- 6:56um
- 6:58And so this isn't a celebration,
- 7:00this is a honoring of the people who
- 7:02did the right thing that day.
- 7:05When a couple people did the wrong thing.
- 7:12Trent says, I was a freshman in college,
- 7:14like day two in New York City,
- 7:16and I could see smoke from the towers.
- 7:17Can't even explain how that affected me
- 7:19since that day.
- 7:22I would say I know a part of
- 7:23it there, Winter,
- 7:24being as how you are now the police.
- 7:27Yeah.
- 7:28Shannon was supposed to fly to Laos on
- 7:31the thirteenth to volunteer for a year.
- 7:33Ended up leaving on the eighteenth.
- 7:36Yeah.
- 7:37My wife and I went to a Chicago
- 7:38Bears game a month later.
- 7:41There were like six people on our plane.
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:44Oh, I'll bet.
- 7:46I'll bet.
- 7:47It was a weird and wild time, dude.
- 7:51And just like you couldn't even bring a
- 7:53car within a mile of Soldier Field.
- 7:56They had it barricaded off because there
- 7:59was so much like fear of what was
- 8:02next.
- 8:03Well,
- 8:04everybody was waiting for the next shooter
- 8:05drop,
- 8:06like something else to happen directly
- 8:07after that.
- 8:08Right.
- 8:09And just waiting and waiting and waiting.
- 8:10I remember that being on edge like that
- 8:12for months and months before people
- 8:16finally started to kind of relax a little
- 8:17bit.
- 8:19I remember that time well.
- 8:23Wayne has lots of friends who were at
- 8:24the Pentagon that day,
- 8:25still haunts many of them to this day.
- 8:27I can't even imagine.
- 8:29I mean, I watched it on TV.
- 8:31I listened to Howard Stern that day
- 8:33because he literally was looking at it as
- 8:37it happened.
- 8:40And a man who doesn't take many things
- 8:43seriously became a serious journalist that
- 8:47day.
- 8:48And it was wild.
- 8:51My ex-wife had went around from probably
- 8:56the thirteenth through the fifteenth or
- 8:58sixteenth and just took pictures around
- 9:00where we lived of the unimaginable amount
- 9:05of American flags that were on everything
- 9:08that people just put up everywhere,
- 9:09just says, you know,
- 9:10show support as much as much as they
- 9:12could.
- 9:12It was an amazing time to be to
- 9:15be alive at that point.
- 9:18George Wang had a brother who worked near
- 9:20the World Trade Center,
- 9:21didn't get word from him until late
- 9:22afternoon.
- 9:23I know people were holding their breath as
- 9:27to what happened that day.
- 9:29But again,
- 9:30I don't want this whole show to be
- 9:31about this because this is supposed to be
- 9:32the break from your stressful day,
- 9:35the break from your special day or your
- 9:39work day, whatever.
- 9:40But it wouldn't feel genuine if we didn't
- 9:43at least mention it.
- 9:45No, we can't just skip over it.
- 9:48I just got to skip over it.
- 9:49But there's lots of shows doing a lot
- 9:51of things today about it.
- 9:54Even like ESPN did some nice tributes this
- 9:57morning as they film a bunch of their
- 9:59shows in New York City and they are
- 10:02so close.
- 10:03I got to watch some of those this
- 10:04morning and they did a really nice job
- 10:06with that.
- 10:07Good on them.
- 10:11One of the worst things is that
- 10:13self-service was jammed and so you
- 10:15couldn't even try to see if people were
- 10:16okay.
- 10:18I know.
- 10:20It's crazy.
- 10:23Last thing I'm going to say is like
- 10:25when I got to my daughter and we
- 10:26were driving home,
- 10:27I had a Jeep at the time.
- 10:29No top.
- 10:32You don't realize how many planes are in
- 10:34the air that you don't notice every day
- 10:37until they're not there.
- 10:38Until they're not there.
- 10:39Yeah.
- 10:41Yeah, it was.
- 10:43Yeah.
- 10:44That was like a very ominous type thing
- 10:47that happened.
- 10:48It's a similar feeling.
- 10:50So right after a hurricane passes,
- 10:54there's no birds flying at all.
- 10:58And you don't realize it,
- 11:00how accustomed you are to the noise until
- 11:02there's none.
- 11:03It is so bizarre, dude.
- 11:05It's like this quiet still,
- 11:07like the quiet after the storm.
- 11:08That's probably where that came from.
- 11:10Yeah, you just go in.
- 11:13what's happening right now it's bizarre
- 11:16but yeah same thing you don't realize how
- 11:18many planes actually fly over you on a
- 11:20regular basis until there's none in the
- 11:21sky whatsoever uh shana lived next to an
- 11:27airport the silence was so loud dude i
- 11:30can't even imagine um so let's get into
- 11:36a couple fun things um yeah please
- 11:45Oh, my gosh.
- 11:46Ramirez.
- 11:47I'm going to show you.
- 11:48I'm going to text him later.
- 11:50I'm going to text him later.
- 11:51Don't even worry about it.
- 11:52I'm going to spam him with a bunch
- 11:53of bullshit.
- 11:54He's one of the ones that texted me
- 11:56yesterday.
- 11:57That was three minutes of our pre-show.
- 12:01Oh, my gosh.
- 12:05When we left the Pentagon this morning,
- 12:07I looked up at the plane that was
- 12:09taking off, and it was a flag plane.
- 12:12It was so patriotic.
- 12:13It was nice,
- 12:15but sad at the same time.
- 12:16Well, yeah, because you know why.
- 12:19Yeah.
- 12:23So,
- 12:23Waterpalooza has announced two of the four
- 12:25full teams now.
- 12:27Dun, dun, dun.
- 12:30The Battle of the Camps.
- 12:33If that's something you...
- 12:36care about um here is the proven team
- 12:40and i don't know if you can see
- 12:41it all it's pretty much what we predicted
- 12:43oh no it's exactly who we thought it
- 12:46was it's olivia kerstetter it is colton
- 12:49mertens it is ricky gerard it is kyra
- 12:52milligan it is maddie sturt and jay crouch
- 12:56that's exactly that is exactly who we
- 13:00predicted
- 13:03In addition,
- 13:04they just announced the Brute team.
- 13:06This one does have some surprises.
- 13:10So everybody was dogging Sprague from not
- 13:12making the team.
- 13:13There he is.
- 13:15We have Emma Lawson.
- 13:16We have James Sprague.
- 13:16We have Jason Hopper.
- 13:17And we have Dallin Pepper.
- 13:18Those, I think we all kind of knew.
- 13:21Yeah.
- 13:22Did we know Janie Chevrie?
- 13:24No,
- 13:25I would not have guessed Janie Shevery.
- 13:27She was not going to be on my
- 13:28roster.
- 13:29Did we know Eileen Wurz?
- 13:31No.
- 13:32Also would not have been on my roster.
- 13:35So, yeah.
- 13:37Was a little surprised about those two,
- 13:39but, hey, good on them, man.
- 13:41Hey, more power to them.
- 13:43More power to them.
- 13:44You know, Jane just missed the games.
- 13:46Yep.
- 13:48and i think oh yeah well no she
- 13:51got in didn't she did she get in
- 13:52on the last chance janie yeah uh is
- 13:57that who made the last chance i think
- 13:59that i think that might be gosh it
- 14:00just was like um six weeks ago dude
- 14:02yeah well aware where uh
- 14:07Joseph said they're going to get to talk
- 14:08to her live tonight on Dick Linton Things.
- 14:11Which one?
- 14:12Eileen or Janie?
- 14:14I think Janie.
- 14:16Okay.
- 14:16Ramirez, correct me if I'm wrong,
- 14:18but I think Janie's coming on tonight,
- 14:20correct?
- 14:22When he says she was.
- 14:23Yeah, she was at the games.
- 14:24It's all coming back to me now.
- 14:25I think Celine Dion told me that.
- 14:27But it's all coming back.
- 14:32Dude.
- 14:34But regardless,
- 14:34back to the point I was trying to
- 14:36make is that this is a great opportunity
- 14:38for both Janie and Eileen.
- 14:40Eileen, Eileen.
- 14:41Come on, Eileen.
- 14:43Let's go to Waza in South Carolina.
- 14:46Yep.
- 14:47Sorry.
- 14:47Because it will give them an opportunity
- 14:52on a big stage to get some experience.
- 14:55Get some experience.
- 14:56Get some more exposure.
- 14:59And honestly,
- 15:00and this is going to sound so freaking
- 15:03participatory, but have some fun.
- 15:07Because this competition, traditionally,
- 15:11unless you're on Danielle Brandon's team
- 15:13and she screams at you while doing worm
- 15:16thrusters, they have a good time.
- 15:21I want to pose this question because I
- 15:23kind of
- 15:25I kind of disagree.
- 15:27Every team partner competition I've ever
- 15:30done, the pressure on me was much,
- 15:34much greater.
- 15:35Yeah, I see that to a point.
- 15:38Now,
- 15:39after each workout and in between the
- 15:42workouts, blast.
- 15:44Hanging out with my best friends in the
- 15:45world.
- 15:46Loved every minute of it.
- 15:48That moment on the floor,
- 15:49I was even more...
- 15:53I was afraid of letting people down.
- 15:55Yeah.
- 15:56So in twenty four, I did beach brawl.
- 15:58I did individual on Saturday and we did
- 16:00team on Sunday.
- 16:02And I mean,
- 16:04I want to do well doing individual,
- 16:06but I really didn't care that much because
- 16:08I just didn't want to leave my teammates
- 16:09down the next day.
- 16:10Like that was my biggest thing.
- 16:12And I even told Bernard that one of
- 16:13my best friends in the world who was
- 16:15also on my team,
- 16:15cause he was yelling at me the day
- 16:16before about what I was doing on the
- 16:19lift.
- 16:19And I said, I don't give a damn.
- 16:22I really, really don't.
- 16:25I just found out I qualify for legends
- 16:27and I'm,
- 16:28and we're competing team tomorrow.
- 16:30I'm doing this because it's fun.
- 16:35Um, yeah, I, I,
- 16:37I probably PR'd more things in a team
- 16:40competition than I ever have doing it on
- 16:42my own.
- 16:44It's a different animal.
- 16:46Anybody who's competed on any kind of team
- 16:49at any kind of level will understand this
- 16:50if you've done it more than once.
- 16:52It is a different animal because,
- 16:54first of all,
- 16:55you're not working for that long at a
- 16:57time, right?
- 16:57You're generally going in small,
- 16:59short sprints unless you have some
- 17:02high-level thing where you get a big,
- 17:03long team run or whatever,
- 17:04which is not the majority of them.
- 17:07You're working in short bursts and short
- 17:08sprints.
- 17:09and you're going to get up whether you
- 17:11want to or not and just push as
- 17:13hard as you possibly can because you don't
- 17:16want to let the guys down next to
- 17:17you end of story yep when that when
- 17:23the when crossfit used the team series
- 17:25which was my favorite event of the year
- 17:31i it i i literally threw up for
- 17:34a year
- 17:35going so hard yeah it's the only time
- 17:38i threw up like i literally would do
- 17:40workouts and run out the back door and
- 17:42heave after every event because i was so
- 17:46anxious about letting my team down sure
- 17:49because every year i would put myself on
- 17:51a team where i was the least fit
- 17:53right right so if anybody's gonna let him
- 17:57down it was gonna be me and i
- 18:00didn't want to be that that guy
- 18:03Well, and you don't even,
- 18:04it's not even that you don't want to
- 18:05let them down.
- 18:05You don't want them to think that you're
- 18:07doing any less than your absolute max
- 18:10every single time,
- 18:12whether you are actually letting them
- 18:13down.
- 18:14Because if they're your friends,
- 18:15they know damn good and well that you're
- 18:16not trying, right?
- 18:19But in your head, you're like, well,
- 18:21I got to go.
- 18:21I got to go.
- 18:22I got to push it to one hundred
- 18:23and fifteen,
- 18:24one hundred and twenty five percent of
- 18:25what I actually have,
- 18:26because they're going to think I'm just
- 18:28I'm just over here just dicking around.
- 18:30I've got to show them I'm not dicking
- 18:31around like it's a.
- 18:33it's a mind dude that that on that
- 18:35part of it well and I should have
- 18:36told myself they wouldn't have picked me
- 18:39yeah if they didn't like we work out
- 18:41together every single day like they know
- 18:43what my capabilities are yeah it wasn't
- 18:45like they walked Scott walked in the gym
- 18:47was like that guy right just randomly yeah
- 18:54yeah no no we want that guy
- 18:58Yeah.
- 18:58So in other Brute news,
- 19:00I don't know if you saw this,
- 19:01but they announced the new members of
- 19:03their team.
- 19:04Now,
- 19:05some of these I heard at WFP because
- 19:08they competed at WFP and they announced
- 19:10that they had moved over to Brute.
- 19:13But Brute has released this,
- 19:16and now we officially know all the new
- 19:19roster.
- 19:20And there's a big surprise on the last
- 19:21slide.
- 19:23Yes, we got Jack.
- 19:25Not a shock.
- 19:26Emma's already a brute athlete.
- 19:28Now he's officially with her.
- 19:30Yep.
- 19:30Um, we have, uh, Jennifer Muir, uh,
- 19:39up and comer doing really well.
- 19:40Yep.
- 19:41Uh,
- 19:41we have Luca Jukic that was announced at
- 19:44WFP.
- 19:46Again, unsurprising.
- 19:48Uh, Louisa Marquez.
- 19:52I said Brazilian, right?
- 19:55sure uh kike survey uh we have yep
- 20:07yep we got her yeah norja bleaker
- 20:15I know that is not the pronunciation.
- 20:17I heard it like eight times at WFP,
- 20:20and there's no way.
- 20:21I feel like the sweet chef would probably
- 20:23pronounce it a whole lot better.
- 20:24It's probably how that goes.
- 20:31And if not, you know, it is now.
- 20:38Then we have Blair Cheney.
- 20:42I have no idea who that is,
- 20:43but okay.
- 20:46And here's the big one.
- 20:47Someone that has always announced that she
- 20:51was going to stick with her coach that
- 20:53has been coaching her at her local
- 20:55affiliate, and that is Reese Littlewood.
- 20:59Reese Littlewood.
- 21:02That is her going to Brute.
- 21:05That's Ortega's girl right there.
- 21:07I'm telling you, she's my girl.
- 21:09Like she's been on the show.
- 21:11She is freaking awesome.
- 21:14Her going to brute.
- 21:15She's, she's someone to watch.
- 21:20I,
- 21:20I call it now in my way to
- 21:23early prediction.
- 21:24She will make the games next year.
- 21:27I think this, this is a,
- 21:28this is going to be the catalyst right
- 21:29here.
- 21:30Going to brute.
- 21:30I mean, come on.
- 21:32Their track record at this point.
- 21:36That's the reason.
- 21:40She's already shown the talent in all the
- 21:42gymnastic stuff.
- 21:45I mean, let's be honest.
- 21:46I'm forty nine years old.
- 21:47I could be like, I'm going to brood.
- 21:48People are like, well,
- 21:49he might make the games next year.
- 21:53Based on that track record alone.
- 21:55I mean, good Lord.
- 21:56You add some strength to her.
- 22:01And she's already she's already.
- 22:05a danielle danielle level handstand walker
- 22:11she's great at gymnastics joseph she's too
- 22:18young for me to be making those jokes
- 22:20dude yeah when i give her two more
- 22:23years two more years and then we'll start
- 22:24making those jokes about her uh
- 22:31She's ready for the next level.
- 22:32She is.
- 22:34She was my underdog this year because I
- 22:37watched her at Syndicate two years ago,
- 22:40and she blew me away.
- 22:41Yeah.
- 22:45She is right on the cusp anyway.
- 22:48Bubble athletes are my favorite athletes
- 22:50because I'm also a bubble athlete,
- 22:51so I'm kind of biased as far as
- 22:52that's concerned,
- 22:53but I love bubble athletes.
- 22:56I'm telling you,
- 22:57her plus brute equals no longer bubble
- 23:00athlete.
- 23:01So here's why I'll say that.
- 23:04Bubble athletes, there's more story there.
- 23:08Will they make it?
- 23:08Won't they make it?
- 23:09What are they doing?
- 23:10Instead of the guys that are like, oh,
- 23:11I've been in, yeah,
- 23:12I made it the past five years and
- 23:14I finished thirteenth every single time.
- 23:16Like, okay, cool.
- 23:17Nobody cares who you are.
- 23:18Sorry.
- 23:19It's just a thing.
- 23:19Like, you're not moving up.
- 23:20You're not moving back.
- 23:21You're just kind of staying right there.
- 23:24People at the very top...
- 23:25that are fighting for podium positions,
- 23:28the people who are on that bubble and
- 23:30are trying to actively make it,
- 23:33in my opinion,
- 23:34is two of the best stories you could
- 23:35possibly tell.
- 23:37When she's asked, like,
- 23:39you didn't make the games.
- 23:40How upset are you?
- 23:41And she says, you know what?
- 23:42I'm only nineteen years old.
- 23:44I've got a lot of runway and this
- 23:47is where I'm supposed to be right now.
- 23:49That's an elite mindset.
- 23:50Nineteen year old has that comprehension
- 23:54of patience and like none.
- 23:59The limit does not exist.
- 24:00None of them do.
- 24:01I am fifty six and I'm maybe just
- 24:05halfway to that point of comprehension.
- 24:11Fair point.
- 24:14Yes, Jaybert,
- 24:14she's only she is just a sophomore in
- 24:17college.
- 24:19She's barely out of high school.
- 24:20She went to prom like last year,
- 24:22a year before last.
- 24:23She almost made the games while she was
- 24:25in high school two years ago.
- 24:27Yeah.
- 24:29Which is,
- 24:29if you just sit there and let that
- 24:33wash over you for a second,
- 24:34that's an insane statistic.
- 24:38Yeah, but to understand, like,
- 24:40how many nine-year-olds are so impatient
- 24:42that they've got to have it all and
- 24:43they've got to have it now?
- 24:45Well, they won it two weeks ago.
- 24:46right and to to have the the forethought
- 24:51to say nope i need to just develop
- 24:53more and i need to get better this
- 24:56isn't my time and i've got a long
- 24:59runway to get there knowing that they have
- 25:01time like no no i got plenty of
- 25:03time i got plenty of time i got
- 25:06i'm nineteen years old good lord
- 25:09And you know what that also means?
- 25:11And she does the class workout every day.
- 25:13She does other workouts throughout the
- 25:15day,
- 25:15but she wants to hang out with the
- 25:18people in her affiliate.
- 25:19And when she comes to Syndicate,
- 25:22her affiliate brings a shit ton of people.
- 25:25And that's another thing that today's
- 25:27athlete doesn't understand,
- 25:31the support she gets from that community.
- 25:34It's not fans.
- 25:35It's not followers on Facebook or whatnot.
- 25:37These are people that she interacts with
- 25:39every single day.
- 25:40So, and once you see her succeed,
- 25:43see what she does.
- 25:44I'm sure she wipes the floor with them
- 25:46every single day.
- 25:48Right.
- 25:48But you know that even like people in
- 25:51a, in a local fit have those,
- 25:53those party tricks that they're really
- 25:55good at that can push you in certain
- 25:58elements, right?
- 26:00And you and I both know when you
- 26:02work out next to someone,
- 26:05that relationship grows in ways that it
- 26:07can't if you don't suffer together.
- 26:11Absolutely.
- 26:12Shared misery is a wonderful thing.
- 26:16Beautiful thing.
- 26:16I absolutely love it.
- 26:22Is Brute the only major camp that doesn't
- 26:24own a gym?
- 26:27I can't think of one that doesn't.
- 26:31I mean,
- 26:31mayhem has mayhem proven has proven.
- 26:34TTT has combined with Travis's gym United.
- 26:38Yeah.
- 26:42I can't,
- 26:43HWPO has that thing up in Vermont.
- 26:45I don't know if anybody's using it,
- 26:46but it was really clean last time I
- 26:49saw it, but they own it, but yeah,
- 26:54but they do own it.
- 26:55And that was purpose built for that much
- 26:57like a proven proven and mayhem were.
- 26:59So yeah,
- 27:00they put regional rigs in that thing just
- 27:02to train on.
- 27:04so that when they would go to like
- 27:06a semi-final or whatever it was the exact
- 27:08same equipment they would see there yeah
- 27:11and maybe they do train there right before
- 27:13events
- 27:17but do they i don't know i don't
- 27:21know i don't pretend to know i don't
- 27:24really care if i'm being completely honest
- 27:26um i just i always thought it was
- 27:28funny like you'd always see the videos of
- 27:30the place and it looks amazing and there's
- 27:33never anybody there but matt
- 27:37I know this.
- 27:38I know Justin Kotler is their head coach.
- 27:40I know he lives in Las Vegas.
- 27:42That is, I don't know if you checked,
- 27:44but about three thousand miles from
- 27:46Vermont.
- 27:47Roughly.
- 27:49And Alex Gazan is his number one athlete.
- 27:52She also lives in Vegas.
- 27:54My assumption is that training her in
- 27:56Vegas is just easier.
- 27:58It seems like it would be.
- 28:00It seems like it would be.
- 28:02It seems like they're not going to...
- 28:04You know what we ought to do is
- 28:05move to Vermont.
- 28:07A completely different climate, altitude,
- 28:10like the entire thing, time zone,
- 28:13whatever.
- 28:14I know everybody you know and everything
- 28:15you know is right here in this town,
- 28:17but maybe we should move across to this
- 28:21admittedly state-of-the-art facility that
- 28:25Mr. Fraser built up here in Vermont,
- 28:27but
- 28:28How about we just stay here instead?
- 28:31Yeah.
- 28:34Barry, I don't understand the question.
- 28:36I mean,
- 28:36Luca can be on whatever camp he wants
- 28:39to be on to train and to get
- 28:41programming and to compete with.
- 28:44He's not on the battle of the camps
- 28:46at Waterpalooza, SoCal.
- 28:49He was just saying earlier, Barry,
- 28:51was that he doesn't even participate in
- 28:54the CrossFit Games season,
- 28:55so why is he on their roster?
- 28:56Because he's on their roster.
- 28:57There are several other events that you
- 28:59can participate in throughout the year,
- 29:02especially in Europe.
- 29:03Europe has a ton of mid-majors.
- 29:08Him and his brother would go and compete
- 29:10in all of those to win money to
- 29:13support themselves.
- 29:15Basically,
- 29:16we're competing year-round for quite some
- 29:18time.
- 29:23uh wasn't was hwpo supposed to move to
- 29:25boston i think their their executive team
- 29:31moved to boston because that was matt
- 29:33o'keefe and that's where matt o'keefe
- 29:35lives right i don't think it was like
- 29:37a physical move to another purchased
- 29:39facility no but i don't think matt left
- 29:42vermont i think that's just the the
- 29:45headquarters for
- 29:47all of their like all of their programming
- 29:50pieces and their wow earthquake in
- 29:53louisiana i'm just knocking just knocking
- 29:55off my desk no big deal um i
- 29:58don't think you could pry uh matt fraser
- 30:00out of out of vermont with hand grenades
- 30:03and a pry bar like he's not leaving
- 30:05dude that's yeah grew up there that's his
- 30:06hometown he loves that place and i mean
- 30:09more power to him like i'm not leaving
- 30:11louisiana it's fine
- 30:14Corey's just mad.
- 30:15He slammed his desk.
- 30:19Not mad.
- 30:20Clumsy.
- 30:20I got a Bluetooth speaker up here and
- 30:21I've just been messing with it the entire
- 30:23time.
- 30:23I just went ahead and knocked it off
- 30:24my desk because that's the kind of shit
- 30:26that I do.
- 30:32Well,
- 30:32I'll do all the sharing stuff and then...
- 30:35Yeah.
- 30:39The maple syrup's good there.
- 30:42So I hear.
- 30:43Yeah.
- 30:46I love real, authentic, not Aunt Jemima,
- 30:52not Golden Griddle.
- 30:53It's not Aunt Jemima no more.
- 30:56It'll always be Aunt Jemima to me.
- 30:58Yeah.
- 31:00And the Land O'Lakes will always be the
- 31:01actual thing.
- 31:03It's a whole different story.
- 31:06Sacagawea.
- 31:09But Golden Griddle, whatever...
- 31:15None of that store-bought sugary stuff,
- 31:17but the actual stuff that comes out of
- 31:19a tree.
- 31:20Yes.
- 31:21Unprocessed,
- 31:22just poured over a piece of French toast.
- 31:24I am like...
- 31:26Or a pancake or over some breakfast
- 31:30sausage.
- 31:31Oh, my God.
- 31:31If you've never put syrup on a breakfast
- 31:33sausage,
- 31:33you are not an American as far as
- 31:35I'm concerned.
- 31:35All right.
- 31:36I am not an American.
- 31:37But anyway, but where I grew up,
- 31:40these people do the homemade maple syrup.
- 31:43Hold on here.
- 31:44And then they make at the local fairs
- 31:46and carnivals,
- 31:47they make homemade apple dumplings.
- 31:50They put a scoop of homemade vanilla ice
- 31:51cream on top and then drizzle their
- 31:54homemade maple syrup over the top of that.
- 31:57Didn't homemade maple syrup just come
- 32:00straight out of a tree?
- 32:01Does that mean they have a tree in
- 32:02their yard?
- 32:02I don't understand what the homemade part
- 32:04of that is.
- 32:05Hey, it was homemade.
- 32:06The tree's in their home,
- 32:07on their homeland.
- 32:09Got it.
- 32:10Scott,
- 32:12I'm going to need you to get some
- 32:12breakfast sausage.
- 32:14I've had it, dude.
- 32:15Homemade syrup.
- 32:18I've had it.
- 32:20i don't want i don't want sweet on
- 32:22top my savory dude yeah well you're not
- 32:26living right syrup on eggs no if it's
- 32:32the right kind of like if it's actual
- 32:34not that like you said not the corn
- 32:37syrup that's been tilted uh tinted brown
- 32:42no not that but actual real come out
- 32:44of a tree so squirrel was trying to
- 32:46eat it uh maple syrup yeah
- 32:50I want some good eggs.
- 32:51I want some good breakfast sausage.
- 32:52I want a biscuit.
- 32:56Any day.
- 33:00Yeah.
- 33:00Wow.
- 33:00All right.
- 33:03I wanted to share this post with you
- 33:05real quick.
- 33:06How long could you keep this up?
- 33:10You saw the first one?
- 33:11That's about where I'd stop.
- 33:16This is about, however many times this is,
- 33:18is as many times as I would have
- 33:20failed trying to do this.
- 33:22There's no way.
- 33:26I'm really good at wall balls,
- 33:27but I am not that good.
- 33:31He actually is hitting depth pretty good
- 33:34for as quick as he's moving.
- 33:37Now,
- 33:37never getting to full extension to help
- 33:39himself with that ball getting to the
- 33:41line, but damn.
- 33:44Nah.
- 33:46nah also he's throwing that thing really
- 33:51that's got to be like a ten pound
- 33:52ball two ten pound balls hell it might
- 33:55be a six yeah just i mean like
- 33:57see how high it's going without him
- 33:59getting to full extension there's no way
- 34:00that's a twenty regardless the the clumsy
- 34:03thing you talked about i i have that
- 34:04gene too yeah just staying upright would
- 34:08be hard for me
- 34:12Well, like getting it started,
- 34:14first of all,
- 34:15I got to throw one and grab the
- 34:16other one.
- 34:17Like that part right there.
- 34:19Like he kind of like shovel past the
- 34:22second one, right?
- 34:25Through the first one,
- 34:26like an actual wall ball and just kind
- 34:27of grab the second one.
- 34:28No, thank you.
- 34:31That looks terrible.
- 34:34No, no good.
- 34:36Look at Matt Sousa.
- 34:36Yeah.
- 34:39He had a good show yesterday,
- 34:40if you missed it.
- 34:41He had a fantastic show yesterday.
- 34:43I enjoyed the shit out of his show
- 34:44yesterday.
- 34:44That was good stuff.
- 34:46Yeah,
- 34:48those are always a can't miss for me.
- 34:50Because to be honest,
- 34:52we don't touch on the affiliate side of
- 34:54things probably as much as we should.
- 34:58And that's where I get all my knowledge
- 34:59about, because he runs an affiliate,
- 35:01right?
- 35:03A successful affiliate, as it turns out.
- 35:05Yeah.
- 35:06Yeah.
- 35:09No.
- 35:09I've been saying this for years.
- 35:10Matt Souza is incredibly intelligent and
- 35:13knowledgeable when it comes to that kind
- 35:14of shit.
- 35:15And I enjoy watching his shows because I
- 35:17learn shit just about every single time.
- 35:20And he's also got a very dry sense
- 35:21of humor, which I also highly enjoy.
- 35:25So, yeah, good stuff yesterday,
- 35:27my brother.
- 35:31Extension doesn't matter if the rep is
- 35:33good.
- 35:33Did he squat and did the ball reach
- 35:35the target?
- 35:36I wasn't calling him no rep.
- 35:37I was just saying.
- 35:38No, somebody else was.
- 35:40Okay.
- 35:40Yeah.
- 35:42He's not helping himself get the ball to
- 35:44the line by not extending.
- 35:45No.
- 35:46Which is why we're saying it's probably
- 35:49got to be a six-pound ball at,
- 35:52you know, a ten-pound at the outside.
- 35:53Something along those lines.
- 35:55Look at Ortega.
- 35:55Ortega, your girl is now a brute athlete.
- 35:58Yeah.
- 35:59How do you feel about that, my brother?
- 36:01Yeah,
- 36:01you missed our Reese Witherspoon
- 36:04celebration.
- 36:06Reese Witherspoon.
- 36:07I am terrible.
- 36:08Reese Witherspoon.
- 36:09Reese Withouterspoon.
- 36:10If you didn't know, Reese Witherspoon,
- 36:12Sweet Home Alabama, is now a CrossFitter.
- 36:14Reese Bigwood.
- 36:15Reese Littlewood.
- 36:20Yeah, Reese Littlewood.
- 36:22We did a celebration of Reese Littlewood
- 36:24and her signing with Brute.
- 36:27And Reese Witherspoon.
- 36:29She's also a Brute athlete now.
- 36:31She's a Masters athlete,
- 36:32but she's definitely with Brute.
- 36:34I just made that up.
- 36:35It's fine.
- 36:37It's fine.
- 36:38It's definitely a thing.
- 36:39And CrossFit will do a story on Reese
- 36:41Witherspoon in about two years.
- 36:42A hundred percent.
- 36:44Absolutely.
- 36:45Becoming a CrossFitter.
- 36:48They'll see it from this show and be
- 36:50like, hey,
- 36:51that dude was talking about Reese
- 36:52Witherspoon.
- 36:52Is she actually a master's athlete?
- 36:54I don't know,
- 36:55but let's do a thing about her anyway.
- 36:56Sweet.
- 37:01Scott, you could have played that off.
- 37:03I thought you were joking.
- 37:03I was not.
- 37:04I'm just dumb.
- 37:06It actually brings up a topic I wanted
- 37:10to.
- 37:11If I read more, I'd probably be smarter.
- 37:14It's not that I was doing a bit.
- 37:15I'm just not real smart.
- 37:21Oh, that's fantastic.
- 37:25It brings me to a thing that I
- 37:27was watching yesterday.
- 37:29everybody knows i love music and i was
- 37:31watching an interview with john resnick
- 37:33from the goo goo dolls the lead singer
- 37:34of the goo goo dolls and the main
- 37:36songwriter i thought it was johnny
- 37:37resonating we just well i thought that i
- 37:40was doing that because we're friends but
- 37:42i'm going to say do you know him
- 37:43that well that it's just john do you
- 37:44no no that's just john it's fine so
- 37:48he was on rick beato's show this week
- 37:51um talking about songwriting and gear he
- 37:54uses and all this kind of stuff but
- 37:57great interview but at the end of it
- 37:59they talk about how ai is killing music
- 38:04writing because young musicians are using
- 38:07ai and resnick basically says the most
- 38:11you're ever going to get from ai in
- 38:13songwriting is a derivative of what's
- 38:16already been done
- 38:19Right.
- 38:20Yeah.
- 38:20And so the days of getting anything new
- 38:24with young musicians is going to be hard
- 38:26because they're all relying on AI to
- 38:29finish off their music or to add a
- 38:31component or to add strings or whatever it
- 38:35is.
- 38:35Right.
- 38:36And he says that they play live.
- 38:39They don't use background tracks.
- 38:41They don't do any of that kind of
- 38:42stuff.
- 38:43And he goes,
- 38:43I mess up all the time.
- 38:45And I found that the audience actually
- 38:47appreciates when I screw up because they
- 38:51know it's real.
- 38:52Right.
- 38:53If I'm off key at a moment,
- 38:55it's almost like they're like, yay.
- 38:57Yeah, he's a human.
- 39:00We're not suffering through AI shit.
- 39:02Right.
- 39:04he also say he'd give up forever to
- 39:05touch you sorry i've been holding on to
- 39:09that the whole time you were talking i
- 39:11had to get it out they talked about
- 39:13that song a lot but i imagine they
- 39:15did i would imagine they didn't um i
- 39:20just wanted to get your opinion on all
- 39:21that because i've been saying for years to
- 39:24my wife like
- 39:27i don't care if they hit every note
- 39:29perfectly i want to know that they feel
- 39:32every note yes that's a big difference big
- 39:37huge difference go back and look and if
- 39:40you can find it's not that it's hard
- 39:43to find mind you but like
- 39:45concert footage or, or, you know, the old,
- 39:49uh,
- 39:49just live performances from old artists.
- 39:52I hate to say it, but it's true,
- 39:54right?
- 39:55Old artists, whoever it might be journey,
- 39:59Boston guys like that.
- 40:00Um, old country artists, George straight,
- 40:03George, see him at, see it,
- 40:04see him live.
- 40:06Right.
- 40:07And it does not sound like it's not
- 40:10perfect every single time.
- 40:11Right.
- 40:12It's not going to be.
- 40:13When we saw the Black Crows a couple
- 40:17weeks ago, a couple months ago,
- 40:18whenever that was,
- 40:19it did not sound perfect because Chris
- 40:23Robinson was singing right there in front
- 40:25of us.
- 40:26And it's not going to.
- 40:26I don't expect him to.
- 40:28People said the same thing about Guns N'
- 40:30Roses and Axl Rose a lot,
- 40:32that he was a studio musician.
- 40:35Because when you heard him live,
- 40:36it did not sound anything like it did
- 40:39on the stuff you heard on the radio
- 40:40and on the recordings because you had a
- 40:42million takes to get it perfect.
- 40:44But if you saw him live,
- 40:45it did not sound that way.
- 40:47But you appreciated it because you knew it
- 40:49was real.
- 40:50Yeah.
- 40:52I am so...
- 40:55that is so my, my style of music.
- 40:57And I know you can't stand YouTube,
- 40:59but that's why I love YouTube because Bono
- 41:02doesn't sing a perfect note every time,
- 41:05but you know,
- 41:05he means whatever note he's saying, right?
- 41:08Like, no, I mean,
- 41:09I can appreciate that point of it.
- 41:10I just don't like that music.
- 41:13Um, Wayne says like,
- 41:15it's technically impossible for AI to
- 41:17improvise, which is the beauty in music.
- 41:20It is.
- 41:22AI cannot have an original thought.
- 41:26All it is really is an amped up
- 41:30Uh search engine is really all it is
- 41:32they can put stuff together from stuff
- 41:34that it'll find here there and yonder You
- 41:37can't it's not going to have an original
- 41:39thought to be able to or feelings to
- 41:40be able to write down Stuff that that
- 41:43you would hear in music doesn't work that
- 41:45way um talking about ai writing stuff and
- 41:48I don't know if i've said this before
- 41:50or not,
- 41:50but like one of the beauty things I
- 41:52love about brandon,
- 41:53uh luckett is that
- 41:55we will give him so much shit if
- 41:57we find a typo in the programming like
- 42:01one day he had uh like that we
- 42:04had to finish a workout with like it
- 42:06said a hundred calories for the guys and
- 42:08eight for the ladies and i was like
- 42:10well he's gonna have a real easy row
- 42:12and that's like on that last one
- 42:14He was like,
- 42:14that's how y'all know I'm the one actually
- 42:16writing this.
- 42:16It's not AI.
- 42:17I'm not just putting that out there.
- 42:19And it's true because like he types it
- 42:20all himself, puts it into the app.
- 42:22And then sometimes it comes out great.
- 42:24Sometimes he had me doing,
- 42:25had us doing two hundred meter strict runs
- 42:29the other day.
- 42:31Not this week, but last week.
- 42:32And I had to text everybody.
- 42:33I was like, hey, bro,
- 42:35what's a two hundred meter strict run?
- 42:36I've never done that before.
- 42:37And he's like, I meant stride, asshole.
- 42:39And I was like, yeah,
- 42:40I know what you mean.
- 42:40I just want to pick that up.
- 42:44Seema says her little sister purposely
- 42:46messes up her IG reel so people know
- 42:48it's authentic.
- 42:49Yeah.
- 42:52What kills me, or not kills me,
- 42:54it tickles me sometimes is that
- 42:55everybody's, oh, AI's going to do this,
- 42:57AI's going to do that,
- 42:58AI's going to do this.
- 42:59It is so incredibly easy to pick out
- 43:03when something is AI.
- 43:05You can read through it one time and
- 43:07know that, yeah,
- 43:08this is probably not written by an actual
- 43:10human being.
- 43:12What I think would be funny is if
- 43:13people went,
- 43:14you had people go out and say strict
- 43:16run and give them no directions and see
- 43:19all the different interpretations of what
- 43:21a strict run might be.
- 43:22Oh, I got plenty from our text group.
- 43:24Believe me.
- 43:26Uh, means no knee bend.
- 43:27That's one of them that I got.
- 43:29Somebody was like,
- 43:30I put on your knee sleeves,
- 43:31put a PVC pipe through each one.
- 43:33That way you can't bend your knees and
- 43:35just run like that.
- 43:37Uh, it means no hopping or skipping.
- 43:42I want to say it's like you can't
- 43:43run two hundred and one meters or one
- 43:45hundred and ninety nine meters.
- 43:46It has to be two hundred.
- 43:48Sorry.
- 43:49Not sorry.
- 43:52Yeah, that's great.
- 43:55Speaking of music,
- 43:56I don't know if you know this,
- 43:57but I started to play drums a week
- 43:59ago.
- 44:00I may have seen it.
- 44:01I may have may have seen some video
- 44:03footage of it.
- 44:03May have may have.
- 44:05So I posted a reel about it yesterday.
- 44:08And I put it up on Tik TOK
- 44:10and I got, I got a comment.
- 44:12I don't usually pay attention to like all
- 44:14that stuff because we put up a lot
- 44:16of reels on here.
- 44:18Um,
- 44:19but this is on my own account and
- 44:21I put it up on Tik TOK and
- 44:23a studio musician from LA was like,
- 44:25that's after a week, you're doing awesome.
- 44:28And I, you might,
- 44:30I could have floated across the floor at
- 44:33that point.
- 44:34Yeah.
- 44:36Yes.
- 44:38you too call me and then last night
- 44:42i was like okay i've been doing all
- 44:44this methodology maybe maybe i am getting
- 44:46good enough that i can do a song
- 44:48so i went to my little drumeo app
- 44:50and i picked the beginner version of in
- 44:53the end by lincoln park and uh no
- 44:57kicking the crotch i am not good enough
- 44:59yet turns out get back to methodology
- 45:04Back up, back up a little bit.
- 45:06Let me back up a little bit.
- 45:08The Drumeo, the app that you're using,
- 45:12the Drumeo people, their YouTube is,
- 45:17they'll get drummers into their little
- 45:20studio area or whatnot.
- 45:22They'll play a song for them that they
- 45:24have never heard but with the drums
- 45:27removed and have them, dude,
- 45:29that is fun to watch.
- 45:33That's why I'm playing drums now.
- 45:35Yeah.
- 45:35I've watched so many of those videos that
- 45:38I was like, I can do this.
- 45:40Yeah, I can do this.
- 45:41Got it.
- 45:42No big deal.
- 45:43No big deal.
- 45:44To be fair,
- 45:45I saw your reel and you looked like
- 45:48you knew what you were doing.
- 45:50Well, that's actually me playing.
- 45:51That is the actual sound coming out of
- 45:53my guitar amp,
- 45:54which is not geared for my electric drums.
- 45:57No, I didn't have the sound up.
- 45:58I just said, you look like you.
- 46:01The rhythm's right.
- 46:02I'm playing it right.
- 46:04It's a very simple money groove.
- 46:06That's all we're at right now.
- 46:08That's all you need, brother.
- 46:10Drums is where it's at, dude.
- 46:12Drums is where it's at.
- 46:13Gotten back just beating on stuff the
- 46:14entire time.
- 46:16Sign me up for that.
- 46:19It is such a good stress reliever too.
- 46:21Well, yeah.
- 46:23And it is way more cardio than you
- 46:26think it is.
- 46:27Oh, no.
- 46:30I've always said this.
- 46:34every drum I've ever seen has been skinny
- 46:36as a rail.
- 46:37And there's a reason for that because they
- 46:39are busy.
- 46:39Except for this one.
- 46:41Well, you were brand new.
- 46:43You were brand new drummer, Scott.
- 46:45We'll get there, brother.
- 46:46It's a process.
- 46:48But you've never seen like every drum I've
- 46:51ever seen because like you're,
- 46:53swinging and beating and like you're doing
- 46:55stuff the entire time you've seen guitar
- 46:58people like if you've seen a concert
- 46:59you've seen dudes just stop playing their
- 47:01guitar and like go to adjusting stuff and
- 47:03it doesn't really sound all that different
- 47:06right yeah the drummer can't stop no they
- 47:13got a usually got a bag full of
- 47:15sticks next to them in case one breaks
- 47:18they just got to grab it and just
- 47:19kind of keep on keeping on
- 47:22Um, drums is a workout too.
- 47:24Yep.
- 47:24It is.
- 47:26Uh,
- 47:26it's so good for your brain to learn
- 47:27new things.
- 47:28I had to do something cause reading,
- 47:30it was not going to help me.
- 47:32Once we gave up reading it,
- 47:34the next best thing was going to be
- 47:35learning how to play the drums.
- 47:37Scott, are you building a garage gym?
- 47:39I built a garage gym in twenty sixteen.
- 47:42Yeah, it's I've added pieces to it.
- 47:45I still use it four or five times
- 47:47a day, a week,
- 47:49not a four or five times a day,
- 47:50a week, whatever.
- 47:51It's like twenty five times a week.
- 47:52It's fine.
- 47:53Yeah.
- 47:55I've got an assault bike.
- 47:57I've got dumbbells.
- 47:58I've got kettlebells.
- 47:59I've got a barbell with about four hundred
- 48:02and some odd pounds of weight.
- 48:06I've got rings.
- 48:08According to Winter,
- 48:11you're going to start getting tattoos here
- 48:13shortly.
- 48:15I have a few.
- 48:19Way more.
- 48:20A lot more to catch up to Travis
- 48:21Barker.
- 48:23So he says in his documentary the reason
- 48:25he got tattoos is so he wouldn't have
- 48:26a plan B. Yeah.
- 48:29A lot of musicians have said that.
- 48:31It's like, no, I'm committing.
- 48:33If I get shit, jelly roll.
- 48:35What jelly roll else is he going to
- 48:37do?
- 48:38I do that shit all over his face.
- 48:41Who's the other one?
- 48:43Post Malone.
- 48:45Teddy Swims.
- 48:47Teddy Swims is
- 48:49And I've seen videos of him interacting
- 48:52with the public.
- 48:53He's the nicest guy on the planet.
- 48:57But you look at him,
- 48:58and if you just saw him coming down
- 48:59a dark alley somewhere,
- 49:00you'd probably run the other direction
- 49:01because he looks scary as shit.
- 49:03Go to prison.
- 49:09The other option is go to prison.
- 49:11Yeah.
- 49:12It's either tattoos on my face.
- 49:13I got two things I can do.
- 49:14Rob banks or play.
- 49:18What do you call a drummer without a
- 49:19girlfriend?
- 49:20Homeless.
- 49:21I read fitness came out with a new
- 49:25treadmill.
- 49:26It looks great.
- 49:27I saw it's resistance built in.
- 49:30I don't know about the resistance building
- 49:31thing.
- 49:31That seems kind of weird.
- 49:34It'd be like running in sand, I guess.
- 49:36Wasn't that what they had at Legends?
- 49:40No, it was not.
- 49:42They might have had resistance,
- 49:43but it wasn't.
- 49:48Because you could actually do a simulated
- 49:51sled push on their treadmill if you
- 49:54cranked it up to ten.
- 49:57Yeah,
- 49:57because they had the gear shift on it
- 50:01looking deal.
- 50:02Yeah, exactly.
- 50:05My problem with those kind of things is
- 50:06that,
- 50:07and I'm looking at it from a practicality
- 50:09standpoint, it's more shit to break.
- 50:15I would much rather just get...
- 50:16If I'm going to spend the amount of
- 50:18money that those things normally are,
- 50:21just give me the regular little Air Runner
- 50:22because you just get on it and run.
- 50:26No big deal.
- 50:28Our next purchase is a rower.
- 50:30My wife wants a rower again.
- 50:31We had one.
- 50:33We sold it to get the bike because
- 50:34of my back.
- 50:35The bike was easier on my back than
- 50:37the rower, but now my back's good.
- 50:39Now she wants a rower back.
- 50:41We'll probably...
- 50:43That's our next purchase.
- 50:44And then I want a bench rack,
- 50:48squat rack.
- 50:49Oh, yeah.
- 50:51Those shouldn't be that expensive,
- 50:52I wouldn't think,
- 50:53even from a Facebook marketplace.
- 50:56I'm sure I'll find some.
- 50:58You should be able to.
- 50:59Or if not,
- 50:59you can just walk down the street to
- 51:00Rogue and see what they got in the
- 51:04dumpster out back.
- 51:06Pretty much.
- 51:08Just walk up, dude.
- 51:11around here i can just you know so
- 51:14they they used to have a garage sale
- 51:17i was about to ask you if that
- 51:18still went on because i remember when that
- 51:19used to happen i have not seen it
- 51:22in a while i haven't i tell you
- 51:24what man if you weren't usain bolt off
- 51:28the line yeah you are literally people
- 51:31would run and especially like the the
- 51:35weight plates they would run and dive on
- 51:37top of the spread eagle
- 51:41and wait for their friends to come,
- 51:43and then they would pick all the ones
- 51:45they wanted.
- 51:47These are mine.
- 51:49These are mine.
- 51:50I kid you not,
- 51:50that's not even an exaggeration.
- 51:53One guy run down and just spread eagle.
- 51:56It's like a brother and sister situation,
- 51:59right?
- 51:59When he's like, I looked at it,
- 52:01it's mine, type deal.
- 52:03Like, whoa, hey, it's just a,
- 52:06it's just a forty-five pound plate.
- 52:07Not a big deal.
- 52:09Which, to be fair, dude, like,
- 52:11If they're selling at garage sale prices,
- 52:13like that shit's expensive.
- 52:14Their plates.
- 52:15So, I mean, everybody's place,
- 52:16not just theirs.
- 52:18What's crazy back in the day,
- 52:20the old games plates would be there.
- 52:22Now they sell those at the games because
- 52:24people want them with the printed thing.
- 52:25Right.
- 52:26But back when I was,
- 52:28cause I started CrossFit in two thousand
- 52:29eleven, man,
- 52:31like you'd go down there and they'd have
- 52:33like the plates from last year's games
- 52:35just sitting in a pile of plates.
- 52:41They had bars.
- 52:42They had bars from the games.
- 52:43They had like tons.
- 52:45If there was like an apparatus from the
- 52:47games that they were never going to use
- 52:49again, it was in the garage sale.
- 52:53Fun times.
- 52:54I remember getting the emails about it and
- 52:57thinking,
- 52:58I would love to go up there and
- 53:00go catch it, right?
- 53:02Because you can probably come back with
- 53:03some badass shit.
- 53:05And then I remember hearing stories like
- 53:06what you just said of people just making
- 53:08a wild break for it as soon as
- 53:10they open doors or whatnot.
- 53:12I'm like,
- 53:12I don't want to fight anybody over a
- 53:14barbell.
- 53:14I really don't.
- 53:16It was mostly the super expensive stuff.
- 53:18Like a wall ball is expensive, right?
- 53:22For what you're getting,
- 53:24it is really expensive.
- 53:26People would dive into the pile of wall
- 53:28balls and on the plates.
- 53:31Those were the two main things.
- 53:34You could get barbells pretty easily at
- 53:36the garage sale.
- 53:37You could get kettlebells pretty easily.
- 53:41There was stuff that you could get not
- 53:43too bad, but damn,
- 53:45those couple things that were a little bit
- 53:47pricier, really tough.
- 53:49Yeah.
- 53:51winter i'm not fighting anybody over a
- 53:53barbell i have a shorty barbell that i
- 53:57ordered from uh rogue um my my uh
- 54:02my shorty one i'm going to get another
- 54:05i can buy another an actual full size
- 54:07my own barbell but i'm not getting a
- 54:09rogue one i'm gonna get a uh oh
- 54:13what's it called i got it saved in
- 54:18here
- 54:20hero when i get a hero barbell uh
- 54:23there's still a garage sale section around
- 54:24the corner behind the checkout always have
- 54:26rogue invitational stuff yeah it's not the
- 54:30same judy it's not like the old garage
- 54:34sale like they they used to fly drones
- 54:36over it to watch the carnage
- 54:39It was like Black Friday mornings, right?
- 54:41At the mall and whatnot,
- 54:42and people just pressed up against the
- 54:44door.
- 54:45With a whole bunch of fit people.
- 54:48Exactly.
- 54:53Unlike Black Friday at the mall.
- 54:58Yeah,
- 54:58which is not a whole bunch of fit
- 54:59people.
- 55:00That's just a bunch of people.
- 55:03My wall ball at home is from an
- 55:04old gym that was getting rid of it
- 55:05because it was ripped.
- 55:07So I taped it up and use it
- 55:09because wall balls are so expensive.
- 55:11A little sand in the eye makes it
- 55:13RX+.
- 55:15Nothing like a little sand in the eye
- 55:16there, Winter.
- 55:21So if you go back,
- 55:22like Savan did a video called,
- 55:25what was it called?
- 55:27It's the one about Miko Salo.
- 55:28Oh,
- 55:28I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 55:32It's Sisu?
- 55:33Sisu?
- 55:33Sisu.
- 55:33Sisu?
- 55:35Sisu.
- 55:37And Miko's wall ball was like a bed
- 55:42pillow stuffed with duct tape.
- 55:47And he would throw it on the outside
- 55:48of his house.
- 55:52he also did the the he's uh the
- 55:55famous uh what is it miko's triangle yeah
- 55:59in like this the dirtiest basement you've
- 56:02ever seen in your entire life and hey
- 56:05bro make do with what you got that
- 56:08was i mean that was kind of the
- 56:10glory years of crossfit the we don't need
- 56:13air conditioning we don't need lights we
- 56:16don't need heat dude i can't tell you
- 56:19the amount of times like um
- 56:23The power wouldn't get knocked out at the
- 56:25gym.
- 56:26During the middle of a workout,
- 56:27nobody stops.
- 56:30I'll grab my phone right quick,
- 56:31turn on the timer, and be like, hey,
- 56:33this is how much time y'all got left.
- 56:36Let's go.
- 56:36The power went out at our gym,
- 56:38and it was dark inside.
- 56:40They pulled up the bay door,
- 56:43and the owner pulled his car up and
- 56:46shined the headlights in to the gym,
- 56:48and we kept going.
- 56:49Yeah, we have.
- 56:51So the panels in the roof have a
- 56:54couple of, they're not transparent,
- 56:56but there's like translucent.
- 56:57So like the sunlight will still come in.
- 56:58So if it's a power line down,
- 57:01down the street, yeah,
- 57:02the light might go out,
- 57:03the fans definitely going to turn off.
- 57:06but you still can see for the most
- 57:08part,
- 57:08see enough to do whatever it is we
- 57:09were doing.
- 57:10And yep, the music is going to stop.
- 57:12Ain't a whole lot I can do about
- 57:13that right this second.
- 57:14Although now we have a battery powered
- 57:16speaker, Bluetooth speaker,
- 57:18so I can just hook my phone to
- 57:19it and we can call it good.
- 57:20Like we can keep rolling.
- 57:22We're not going,
- 57:23y'all keep doing what y'all doing.
- 57:24I got the rest of this.
- 57:25Y'all keep working out.
- 57:26Don't even worry about it.
- 57:28And now I think that's,
- 57:30those are like the disconnect pieces now
- 57:32with the
- 57:34The elite athletes like having air
- 57:37conditioned places to work out in and all
- 57:40that kind of stuff.
- 57:41That's the disconnect from like the roots
- 57:43of CrossFit.
- 57:45Not saying one is better than the other,
- 57:47but like there was a grittiness to the
- 57:50old school CrossFit that I think has been
- 57:53lost along the way.
- 57:55Well, I mean,
- 57:56that's why we still write stuff on the
- 57:57whiteboard every day.
- 57:58I wrote the workout this morning when I
- 58:00coached this morning,
- 58:01wrote everything down,
- 58:02wrote the warm-up down and whatnot.
- 58:03We write everybody's name on the board,
- 58:05everybody's scores and what weight they
- 58:07lifted, all that shit.
- 58:09We still do all of that by hand,
- 58:10where a lot of places I've gone to,
- 58:11it's just on a TV screen now,
- 58:13and you can just go to the computer
- 58:14and whatnot.
- 58:15The computer might break,
- 58:16the TV might break,
- 58:17all that shit might go down.
- 58:19The whiteboard is always going to work.
- 58:21All we need is a marker.
- 58:25Yeah.
- 58:25I love watching the Burpee King on
- 58:27YouTube.
- 58:27Just a four by six space.
- 58:29Get after it.
- 58:32It's really all you need.
- 58:34You can do a whole lot of fitness
- 58:36in a very small space.
- 58:41My gym got struck by lightning a few
- 58:43weeks ago.
- 58:43No fans, no music,
- 58:44no lights for a few days.
- 58:48We can still do music.
- 58:49We got three different speakers in there
- 58:52that are battery operated.
- 58:55Once the big one would die,
- 58:57as long as it had a good charge
- 58:58on it,
- 58:59we can charge it overnight and it'll play
- 59:01all day from five o'clock, five and six,
- 59:06eight, twelve, three thirty, four thirty,
- 59:08five thirty.
- 59:08So you're looking at eight hours of it.
- 59:11being able to play at basically full
- 59:13volume the entire time, not a big deal.
- 59:15And then where there's two of them,
- 59:17two little Bluetooth speakers on the other
- 59:19side by the weightlifting area that if we
- 59:20need to,
- 59:21we can pull over at any given point
- 59:24in time and just roll with those as
- 59:25well.
- 59:25You can play music off your phone,
- 59:27not a big deal.
- 59:27Like we are, we are,
- 59:30we are around us anyway.
- 59:32I feel like the Kings that we can
- 59:33make it work,
- 59:35like whatever you need to do,
- 59:36we can make it happen.
- 59:38I want to leave with just a fun
- 59:40question for you.
- 59:41Cause I was posed this question on
- 59:42Instagram today and I thought I'd share it
- 59:44with the group and yes,
- 59:46get your vote for what this question is.
- 59:51Um, sure.
- 59:56So the question is who was the best
- 59:58Hollywood quarterback?
- 1:00:01Your nominees are Shane Falco from The
- 1:00:04Replacements,
- 1:00:05Mike Winchell from Friday Night Lights,
- 1:00:07Paul Crew from The Longest Yard,
- 1:00:09Willie Beeman from Any Given Sunday,
- 1:00:11Ronnie Sunshine Bass from Remember the
- 1:00:13Titans,
- 1:00:14and Johnny Mox Moxon from Varsity Blues.
- 1:00:19Is this really even a question?
- 1:00:25Pain heals, chicks dig scars,
- 1:00:27but glory lasts forever.
- 1:00:33mean my initial vote was shane falco
- 1:00:34pretty much hands down right yeah but i
- 1:00:39don't want your life for a kid who
- 1:00:45didn't really want to be a football player
- 1:00:47he was pretty damn good johnny mox moxon
- 1:00:50he was and i will say this as
- 1:00:52far as like straight up talent and and
- 1:00:56doing it in a different a different time
- 1:00:58period sunshine was pretty damn good
- 1:01:02But I will tell you,
- 1:01:04who actually looked like a real NFL
- 1:01:06quarterback was Willie Beeman.
- 1:01:08Stephen Willie Beeman, yeah.
- 1:01:10Props to Jamie Foxx.
- 1:01:11He did make it look real.
- 1:01:12Yeah.
- 1:01:13Like, I love Shane Falco,
- 1:01:15and I love his O-line.
- 1:01:17Like, his O-line are my favorite.
- 1:01:19Like,
- 1:01:20they are all about the protection in every
- 1:01:23single way.
- 1:01:24Yep.
- 1:01:25But, like,
- 1:01:26he did not look like an NFL quarterback.
- 1:01:28No.
- 1:01:30Willie Beeman looked like a real NFL
- 1:01:32quarterback.
- 1:01:32Is it because he was left-handed and
- 1:01:35you're not used to seeing too many
- 1:01:37left-handed quarterbacks?
- 1:01:41He just doesn't look smooth, dude.
- 1:01:44I get that.
- 1:01:45Have you seen the conspiracy theories that
- 1:01:47say that Shane Falco...
- 1:01:51Is actually Johnny Utah.
- 1:01:54I've, I've heard that.
- 1:01:56I've heard that.
- 1:01:59I was getting confused.
- 1:02:00Shane Falco confused with Joe Flacco.
- 1:02:02And well, I mean, that's fair.
- 1:02:05Yeah.
- 1:02:07uh replace sandler with burt if you put
- 1:02:10burt reynolds up there and his paul crew
- 1:02:12that guy looked like that guy actually
- 1:02:14played quarterback at florida state yeah
- 1:02:16but i say he actually was a quarterback
- 1:02:18so that's probably why they went with uh
- 1:02:21went with stan with sandler instead yeah
- 1:02:25utah my battery is just about dead on
- 1:02:27this laptop because i plugged in the wrong
- 1:02:29cord utah
- 1:02:33me too well the reason i wanted to
- 1:02:35bring this up is last night i was
- 1:02:36watching the nfl game and uh and they
- 1:02:41did an opening with a kyle chandler going
- 1:02:45through speech lights and he's doing it
- 1:02:49and i said to my wife clear eyes
- 1:02:51full heart can't lose can't lose she goes
- 1:02:54what are you talking about and then he
- 1:02:56ends it with
- 1:02:57Clear eyes.
- 1:02:58Clear eyes.
- 1:02:58Full heart.
- 1:02:59Can't lose.
- 1:03:00Can't lose.
- 1:03:01She goes, how do you know that?
- 1:03:02I'm like, Friday Night Lights,
- 1:03:03how do you not know that?
- 1:03:05How do you not know that?
- 1:03:05Yeah, that's the real question.
- 1:03:07I never wanted your life.
- 1:03:10I don't want your life.
