- 0:00Speaker 1: With the Ambi Dexterist Genoreama throwing lefty and righty. First
- 0:04Speaker 1: of all, welcome, thanks for coming down, appreciate you having
- 0:06Speaker 1: me having some time to join us here tonight. Got
- 0:09Speaker 1: a great crowd here. I want to ask you about
- 0:11Speaker 1: Saturday Night and I want to talk big picture. I
- 0:14Speaker 1: know you were talking about it with the media afterwards,
- 0:16Speaker 1: because you had a big part in putting this whole
- 0:19Speaker 1: event together at the Barclay section.
- 0:21Speaker 2: How do you a piece of lint?
- 0:23Speaker 1: How do you think it went for a first time out?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Well, I thought it was great. You never know how
- 0:30Speaker 2: these things are going to go, but it all depends
- 0:33Speaker 2: on the people running the event. The Barclays, you know,
- 0:38Speaker 2: they've got the w NBA champions there all right, and
- 0:42Speaker 2: they they have the nets and they're used to having
- 0:47Speaker 2: big events, so I knew they would do a great job.
- 0:50Speaker 2: And the Fox people are used to showing big events,
- 0:54Speaker 2: and the Horizon people are great at putting the whole
- 0:59Speaker 2: thing together, so we knew we had all the you know,
- 1:02Speaker 2: the main players in place. You know, you just hope
- 1:07Speaker 2: that that everything goes well and that it's well received.
- 1:10Speaker 2: And I think it was and the crowd was great.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And it was loud and it looked great on TV.
- 1:16Speaker 2: So that's basically you know what you want. And then
- 1:20Speaker 2: the first game was you know, very competitive, went then
- 1:25Speaker 2: you know, went down to a wire so to speak,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and second game was more like it to my liking.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So I think it went great. And and you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: next year it's the same in four teams, but it'll
- 1:43Speaker 2: be a Madison Square Garden instead of the Barclays, and
- 1:47Speaker 2: we will play Iowa and Louisville will play Tennessee. After that,
- 1:52Speaker 2: we don't know who the other three teams will be,
- 1:54Speaker 2: but we'll work on that between now and then. But
- 1:57Speaker 2: you're the host school, we're the whole school. We'll be
- 1:59Speaker 2: in it every year.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Nice very good as well.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It's my tournament, so I should be those.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Yeah, agreed, And you just signed a five year deal,
- 2:06Speaker 1: so yeah, you should be there.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I know.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Sure as far as the game goes, I mean, fantastic
- 2:12Speaker 1: defensive effort by your club, kept the turnovers down, particularly
- 2:16Speaker 1: the first three quarters. We thought that was going to
- 2:18Speaker 1: be a big key. And then you got contributions from
- 2:20Speaker 1: a lot of people not named Paige Beckers. And although
- 2:22Speaker 1: Page didn't shoot the ball well, she had ten rebound,
- 2:25Speaker 1: six assists, so she played a big role there. But
- 2:27Speaker 1: you got a lot of contributions in that game on Saturday,
- 2:29Speaker 1: for sure.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We did. And generally speaking, I would say when two
- 2:36Speaker 2: pretty good teams play, especially two pretty good defensive teams,
- 2:41Speaker 2: it's really difficult for the other team's best player to
- 2:45Speaker 2: have a big night. And that's because the entire defensive
- 2:51Speaker 2: game plan is built around not letting that player get
- 2:56Speaker 2: all the touches that they're used to. So you need
- 3:00Speaker 2: contributions from other people. You need other people to uh
- 3:04Speaker 2: take advantage of the fact that every time Page has
- 3:07Speaker 2: the ball and we get ball screen, they were trapping her.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Well that opens up a four on three situation and
- 3:13Speaker 2: you have to capitalize on it. And they kept doing
- 3:15Speaker 2: it and we kept capitalizing on it. So Page just
- 3:19Speaker 2: being on the floor helps everybody else be a better player.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And she's so unselfish. You know, she's not going to
- 3:24Speaker 2: go out there and just start taking bad shots just
- 3:26Speaker 2: to just to shoot the ball, and she's going to
- 3:28Speaker 2: do other things. You know, ten rebounds and she's going
- 3:31Speaker 2: to play good d and it's going to get her
- 3:33Speaker 2: number of assists. So you know, the supporting cast so
- 3:39Speaker 2: to speak. Uh. I thought had a great a great
- 3:43Speaker 2: night all of them, and I think especially obviously Sarah.
- 3:49Speaker 2: You know, it is difficult matchup for any of those guys.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But I thought without page Asy obviously did Asy stuff,
- 3:58Speaker 2: you know what she does. And then Ash came off
- 4:02Speaker 2: the bench, and you know, I told him before the
- 4:04Speaker 2: game that they had to change the game. The guy's
- 4:06Speaker 2: coming off the bench had to change the game, that
- 4:08Speaker 2: whatever was happening in the game, they had to you know,
- 4:12Speaker 2: stir things up a little bit. And she came in
- 4:14Speaker 2: and immediately had a huge impact on the game. So
- 4:18Speaker 2: those are those are all good things, and you know,
- 4:21Speaker 2: they may not mean anything Thursday night, but it meant
- 4:23Speaker 2: a lot Saturday night.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Right as far as Aisy goes, Yeah, she had four threes.
- 4:26Speaker 1: But I thought the most impressive offensive play that she
- 4:29Speaker 1: made was in the first half. She was i think
- 4:32Speaker 1: in the right corner the post up move and then
- 4:34Speaker 1: she got the reverse layup, and that I think that's
- 4:37Speaker 1: indicative not only what she's done in the past, but
- 4:39Speaker 1: I think it's also a payoff of what she's done
- 4:41Speaker 1: in the weight room to rehab that injury. With the
- 4:43Speaker 1: strength that she had and the ability to be able
- 4:46Speaker 1: to do that.
- 4:48Speaker 2: She's one of the best conditioned athletes we've had a Yukon.
- 4:54Speaker 2: That's why it's crazy that all this stuff keeps happening
- 4:56Speaker 2: to her. But she's just so incredibly uh well put
- 5:03Speaker 2: together for a basketball player, Like if you're gonna go
- 5:05Speaker 2: if you were going to build like the perfect basketball player,
- 5:08Speaker 2: that's what it would look like, you know. So we
- 5:12Speaker 2: encourage her every time she touches the ball to force
- 5:16Speaker 2: the action, you know, make make a play, don't don't
- 5:22Speaker 2: give the defense a break by passing it back. You know,
- 5:26Speaker 2: when you take the ball being attack mode and they're
- 5:28Speaker 2: either going to have to try to guard you one
- 5:30Speaker 2: on one, which they can't, or they're gonna have to
- 5:32Speaker 2: double team you, which same thing with Page then opens
- 5:34Speaker 2: up something for somebody else. So you know, between the
- 5:41Speaker 2: Page and Easy and Sarah, we've got three players that
- 5:44Speaker 2: are really really hard to play against, and you know,
- 5:49Speaker 2: all three of them made huge contributions the other night.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and as far as Asy's injury, you talked about
- 5:55Speaker 1: it earlier today, she'll miss Thursday, but day to day,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I mean that's I mean, see the best case scenario.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean, for sure, Thursday, and then you know, Sunday,
- 6:07Speaker 2: who knows. But we're not gonna We're not going to
- 6:09Speaker 2: rush back into anything. You know, when when she's ready,
- 6:13Speaker 2: she's ready. You know, when when you've been through what
- 6:17Speaker 2: she's been through, there's no you know, there's no sense
- 6:21Speaker 2: in hurrying up and getting her back in. So I
- 6:26Speaker 2: would expect that she will be out this week and
- 6:28Speaker 2: then we'll see what happens after that.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Just remind me, same knee or the other knee.
- 6:36Speaker 2: All the knees look alike to me.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Well, the one that doesn't, the one that doesn't have
- 6:42Speaker 1: the slices in it. I think it was her.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I think she got hit. She got on the right,
- 6:47Speaker 2: on the right side.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Okay, all right, we'll get into Sarah Strong next because
- 6:51Speaker 1: she had a marvelous night, but she also did something
- 6:54Speaker 1: that we haven't seen from her yet in the first
- 6:57Speaker 1: eight games of the season. It's you kind of women's
- 6:58Speaker 1: basketball Coaches Show. We are live at the Dunkin Music
