1:43
[SPEAKER_10]: I'm Kyle Meredith today.
1:44
[SPEAKER_10]: We are talking about the new series carry on Prime video.
1:49
[SPEAKER_10]: Based on Steven King's iconic debut novel, carry as a bold timely and surprising re-evention of this classic coming-to-age story, adaptive for television.
1:59
[SPEAKER_10]: For the first time, by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan,
2:06
[SPEAKER_10]: has been her life hidden away in the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan.
2:13
[SPEAKER_10]: After her father's sudden untimely death, thruster into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carri is forged to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through the community.
2:23
[SPEAKER_10]: The relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social media age and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.
2:34
[SPEAKER_10]: I'm going to be talking with one showrunner Mike Flanagan and a lot of the cast including Summary Child and Samantha Sloyan, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard, Allison Thornton and Josie Toda and Joel Alitz and Arthur Conti.
2:50
[SPEAKER_10]: Of course, Mike Flanagan
2:52
[SPEAKER_10]: Uh, he's one of my all-time favorite creators, uh, hunting of Hillhouse Midnight Mass, the life of Chuck, the hunting and blind man, or the fall of the house of usher doctor sleep, just to name a few, uh, I'm gonna be asking Mike, all about what, what made him look at back at that classic story that we all know so well, even if you've never seen it, you know the prom scene, or at least, you know, you've seen clips of it or it gives or whatever, but, uh, but, but how do you look at that and go, I got an idea, I think we can take this further,
3:21
[SPEAKER_10]: So we're gonna talk about that and what it says about today's teen culture and a whole lot more So let's get into it.
3:28
[SPEAKER_10]: We're gonna start this whole special talking about Carrie.
3:32
[SPEAKER_10]: It's Kyle Meredith with Mike Flanagan Hey Kyle, how are you?
3:36
[SPEAKER_10]: I'm well such a pleasure to to get to talk to you congratulate you on on this seriously outstanding story What you've done with this.
3:43
[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, thank you so much.
3:44
[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you.
3:45
[SPEAKER_10]: You get to be the guy who looks at a classic
3:48
[SPEAKER_10]: that people love so much, and you go, I can, I can do, I can, I can update this.
3:53
[SPEAKER_10]: I can, like, where does that come in?
3:55
[SPEAKER_10]: And then everybody, and everybody goes, no, what are you doing?
3:57
[SPEAKER_10]: And then I spend a year going, no wait, it's gonna be okay.
4:00
[SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be okay.
4:02
[SPEAKER_08]: Um, yeah, no, I, I, I, I, I, I've got a, a pension for, uh, for nausea, I suppose.
4:09
[SPEAKER_08]: It's, um, it's been a very weird year, uh, between carry and, and the exercise.
4:15
[SPEAKER_08]: But, um, but yeah, no, I'm, I'm just really glad, uh, I'm glad people are finally getting to see it because I do think it's, you know, we were never interested in supplanting or replacing or trying to improve upon, you know, the book or to palm his masterpiece.
4:27
[SPEAKER_08]: It was really like, no, there's something new and different we can do with this that
4:31
[SPEAKER_08]: really cool and really timely, and I hope that's what people are finding as they watch it.
4:36
[SPEAKER_10]: Is that like a little radar that goes off in you, like when you're thinking about story, like if something already exists like this and like you're talking about X, all that is that, is that what happens?
4:45
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I mean, I have, I have an immediate kind of reaction to those ideas when they come up, where it's a good, why?
4:53
[SPEAKER_08]: Leave it alone, you know, if I don't have a fantastic
4:59
[SPEAKER_08]: I passed on on the project and with something like this where I've got to bring it to Stephen King, whose first question is also why, you know, and I don't have a terrific answer, then I'm not going to do it, so yeah, I'm a fan, I'm a cinephile, I'm I'm just as protective of them.
5:21
[SPEAKER_08]: the the books and the movies that I love as anyone else.
5:24
[SPEAKER_08]: So I tend to have the same first reactions everybody does.
5:29
[SPEAKER_08]: It's only when I've got an answer that I'm really compelled by that I kind of wins and grip my teeth and go, I'm going to do this, I'm sorry, and hope that it goes well.
5:38
[SPEAKER_10]: Is there anything like was there another chance in you to kind of do more of what you couldn't with the midnight club with this?
5:46
[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, that's interesting.
5:46
[SPEAKER_08]: You know, I hadn't thought about that.
5:48
[SPEAKER_08]: I think in some ways, sure.
5:49
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, you know, the midnight club, I really, I was so excited about that when I wish it would have kept going.
5:59
[SPEAKER_08]: But that was the first time I was trying to tell stories specifically kind of from
6:07
[SPEAKER_08]: And this in so many ways became an incredible education for me about what it means to be a teenager today.
6:13
[SPEAKER_08]: You know, we brought teens into the writer's room to talk to us about their experiences and what they would want to see on the screen.
6:21
[SPEAKER_08]: And I learned so much about even my own kids, my old son was about to start high school when I started developing this and
6:28
[SPEAKER_08]: We, it's led to conversations and revelations about his world and what he goes through that I never, I think, would have had otherwise, and to an enormous amount of respect for the fortitude, his generation needs to have every day.
6:40
[SPEAKER_08]: But yeah, this has been quite an education for me.
6:44
[SPEAKER_10]: Well, in a similar way that John Hughes did, in a much different meaning of it, I think you have tapped into that.
6:50
[SPEAKER_10]: I say from a 45-year-old who hasn't been a teenager in a very long time, but I have a son as well, and it really does seem like that kind of thing of tapping into it, you know?
6:59
[SPEAKER_10]: And the way, Q is going to go with breakfast club.
7:02
[SPEAKER_08]: You're exciting one of my favorite films.
7:05
[SPEAKER_08]: And I think the specifics of the teenage experience change so fast, because I don't recognize, to your point, we haven't been teens in a long time.
7:14
[SPEAKER_08]: I imagine we have a similar, I was in high school in the 90s, I'm sure you were, too, utterly unrecognizable from what it is today, which is utterly unrecognizable from what it was in the 70s when Stephen King was writing about it.
7:28
[SPEAKER_08]: The world changes so much, but the fundamentals stay the same, you know, kindness, cruelty, torment, bullying, the importance of empathy and the potential for violence, like all of that, is there, it just amplifies.
7:42
[SPEAKER_08]: And I think this feels more dire today than ever.
7:45
[SPEAKER_10]: But you told it wonderfully, and I can't wait to see where this story goes, Mike, it's such a pleasure to get the talk to you.
7:50
[SPEAKER_08]: Thank you so much.
7:51
[SPEAKER_08]: A pleasure to talk to you.
7:52
[SPEAKER_08]: You have a terrific rest of the day.
7:54
[SPEAKER_10]: All right, a quick pause just to say that if you like what you're hearing right now, please do hit that subscribe button.
8:00
[SPEAKER_10]: It helps more than you think.
8:01
[SPEAKER_10]: We'll be right back right after this.
8:05
[SPEAKER_10]: All right, welcome back.
8:06
[SPEAKER_10]: It's Kyle Mayer the next.
8:08
[SPEAKER_10]: I'm going to be talking with Summer Age Howell, who plays Carrie White and Samantha Sloyen, who plays her mother Margaret.
8:14
[SPEAKER_10]: Samantha, you've of course seen in many Mike Flanagan projects like Midnight Mass and Hush, the fall of the House of Usher.
8:22
[SPEAKER_10]: Midnight Mass, Haunting of Hill House, Summer Age Howell, who gets to play the main character here, we've seen her in Hunter Hunter, abducted by my teacher, not at the Ripper, a Reaper spirit in the blood, the Midnight Man, just to name a few.
8:37
[SPEAKER_10]: And so we're gonna hear about what it's like taking on this title character and the back and forth that the two of them had, especially having so much time to do rehearsals in previous interviews, a lot of the actors have talked about it, how just important.
8:49
[SPEAKER_10]: the rehearsals were to this show.
8:51
[SPEAKER_10]: So let's get into this as we discuss carry on prime video.
8:55
[SPEAKER_10]: It's Kyle Meredith with Summary Chowl and Samantha Sloyan.
9:00
[SPEAKER_10]: Hello you all.
9:02
[SPEAKER_10]: It's a pleasure to see you both on here, especially after this series what incredible performances from both of you.
9:09
[SPEAKER_10]: Um, summer I'll start with you.
9:10
[SPEAKER_10]: It's, um, it's a well-known story of course, but, but I love the way you did it.
9:15
[SPEAKER_10]: What do you think this, this series gets to say about, um, I guess the wider community of gifted women?
9:22
[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, well it excites me that in our show, we get to explore the TK gene a little more and these powerful women.
9:29
[SPEAKER_05]: How it's not just carry.
9:31
[SPEAKER_05]: Um, yeah, I think people have been wanting that for a long time and so I'm really excited that we got to show it.
9:38
[SPEAKER_10]: Samantha, I heard about these rehearsals too, and especially kind of getting into that.
9:43
[SPEAKER_10]: What did they reveal for you?
9:45
[SPEAKER_10]: Because like diving into these characters so much deeper, right?
9:49
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
9:50
[SPEAKER_01]: And especially something like this where you have relationships like a mother or daughter or the best friends of person too.
9:55
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the more you can can give the actors like an actual relationship to pull from it.
10:01
[SPEAKER_01]: You just really see it on screen.
10:03
[SPEAKER_01]: So that and just us getting to decide how we kind of wanted the
10:16
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, have a good time and trust each other.
10:18
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it invested us all more in what we were doing.
10:22
[SPEAKER_10]: I hear about those rehearsals, too.
10:23
[SPEAKER_10]: And I wonder like how much do we see on the screen of like, like if you were in a play versus how much you have to toss out at the moment to still be present.
10:31
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think a lot, I think, because we had all worked really hard independently on our stuff.
10:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And so we had really solidified our characters.
10:38
[SPEAKER_01]: What I think what you're seeing now is like what happens once Margaret meets summer.
10:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like once I saw summers performance, it really helped so many parts of Margaret click into the.
10:49
[SPEAKER_01]: to the place they needed to be.
10:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
10:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
10:52
[SPEAKER_10]: Summer.
10:53
[SPEAKER_10]: I think you'd said you'd never watched it beforehand.
10:55
[SPEAKER_10]: Have you seen it since?
10:57
[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
10:58
[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, I have.
10:59
[SPEAKER_05]: I'm so lucky.
11:00
[SPEAKER_05]: I got to watch it at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver with Mike and most of our cast.
11:05
[SPEAKER_05]: And like Vancouver locals all came out.
11:07
[SPEAKER_05]: The place was packed and we all made a night of it and it was super cool.
11:11
[SPEAKER_05]: Really bizarre for me having filmed a whole show and then getting to see where she came from.
11:17
[SPEAKER_05]: Um, yeah.
11:17
[SPEAKER_05]: Really cool.
11:18
[SPEAKER_05]: Susie Space Act just amazing.
11:20
[SPEAKER_10]: Now, do you see, is there, uh, do you recognize the two portrayals in each other?
11:25
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, I mean, my version is very different, but it's just fun seeing like all the iconic moments that we still have and how we got to stretch it out and you just have more time with characters and get to know why people do things that they do, nobody's just good or bad.
11:43
[SPEAKER_10]: So, I think that's important to Samantha, all you two because this mom becomes more three-dimensional.
11:50
[SPEAKER_10]: Like you do such a great job of like love,
11:53
[SPEAKER_10]: and harmful control at the same time did it feel like a motion of whiplash as you're filming this?
11:59
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think the Margaret that might build the funny thing was it is the love that creates the harm in a way so I feel like it wasn't whiplash so much as like they were just two sides of the same coin.
12:12
[SPEAKER_10]: well it's so good.
12:14
[SPEAKER_10]: I so enjoy what both of you all do and looking forward to so much more of this story.
12:18
[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you so much for taking the time to.
12:19
[SPEAKER_09]: And I think it's a summer in Samantha.
12:21
[SPEAKER_10]: All right.
12:21
[SPEAKER_10]: Let's move right along.
12:23
[SPEAKER_10]: Next up, Amber Mid Thunder and Matthew Lillard, Matthew.
12:26
[SPEAKER_10]: One of the most iconic of all time, right?
12:29
[SPEAKER_10]: We've seen him in Scream in Hackers, Scooby-Doo, Five Nights at Freddy's, SLC, Punk, Amber Mid Thunder.
12:37
[SPEAKER_10]: You'll remember
12:42
[SPEAKER_10]: And the two of them play teachers in the administrative, what Matthew's character is actually the principal of the school, he's dealing with a lot, not just with what's going on, bringing, you know, carry in, having never, you know, she's never been to school, but then all of what the ripple effect that happens all over the school, and Amber herself, she's both coach and in a gym class, at a home room teacher, so she's, her character is getting a direct
13:11
[SPEAKER_10]: So here we go is we continue to talk carry on prime video.
13:14
[SPEAKER_10]: It's Kyle Meredith with Amber Mithunder and Matthew Lillard.
13:17
[SPEAKER_11]: Hi Kyle.
13:19
[SPEAKER_11]: I love the of Prince back there.
13:21
[SPEAKER_10]: Just anywhere else on my shoulder, you know, princess what keep my heroes over my shoulder, little Prince Bowie, REM always there it's such a pleasure to get to see you and and and to tell you how great both of you were in this series Matthew, I'll start with you you know you're stepping in to remaking a classic is it the same is it just a job.
13:42
[SPEAKER_10]: What goes through your head.
13:44
[SPEAKER_11]: Good question.
13:45
[SPEAKER_11]: I don't really.
13:47
[SPEAKER_11]: to be completely candid and I was worried about results, my whole life would be tied up in energy that I can't control.
13:56
[SPEAKER_11]: So for me what is drawing with draws me to a project is am I going to have something great to work on?
14:02
[SPEAKER_11]: Who is the community I'm working with?
14:04
[SPEAKER_11]: And then is it going to help be my kids?
14:06
[SPEAKER_11]: I mean those are really the three things.
14:08
[SPEAKER_11]: It's something like this.
14:10
[SPEAKER_11]: I think if you ask any of us what draws you into this is Mike Flanagan, he is top of his game, the best human around and you know you're going to be a part of something that's extraordinary.
14:22
[SPEAKER_03]: And create such like a wonderful environment on set and really like early on, you know, we had like a month of rehearsals before we started filming and and he also sat down and like gave this sort of really beautiful talk with like the room of actors and he sort of
14:40
[SPEAKER_03]: gave us a very short list of the list of things he asked.
14:43
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, they were right.
14:45
[SPEAKER_11]: Like, yeah, they were like expectations.
14:48
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, but it was really good.
14:49
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it like set the standard really early of like, not just this is a high performing space, but also like, this is an environment where you guys work as a team and we all respect each other.
14:59
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that was like, it really set a, he is not just an incredible writer and director and editor and all the things, but he really knows how to like lead and environment.
15:10
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, and especially the world building that you do like what type of rules.
15:13
[SPEAKER_10]: I've got to know like what are we talking about here?
15:16
[SPEAKER_11]: Oh, yeah, I mean they seem basic, but in Reflection of what we do.
15:21
[SPEAKER_11]: Well, yeah, and what we do to ask of actors what he's asking.
15:25
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, you just don't see very often So number one rule you show up on time, which seems really good this earlier on time number two no phones on set
15:34
[SPEAKER_11]: So you can't have a phone on your set.
15:36
[SPEAKER_11]: You can have it back at base camp or the around what it's seen in area.
15:39
[SPEAKER_11]: And then no signs.
15:41
[SPEAKER_11]: So a lot of times, actors come to set with sides.
15:44
[SPEAKER_11]: And our learning lines and or our insecure, so they'll carry them.
15:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that was one is like during blocking rehearsal, no sides in your head.
15:53
[SPEAKER_03]: So like you come at, you know, even usually in the morning or you're still like going through the works and here make up on whatever.
15:58
[SPEAKER_03]: It's like you just lock in.
16:00
[SPEAKER_11]: I haven't had sides on set in 30 years, I don't know about 30 years, but 20 years.
16:04
[SPEAKER_11]: That's a good thing.
16:06
[SPEAKER_11]: Because for me, I have to be ready to go.
16:10
[SPEAKER_11]: I can't be learning anything.
16:11
[SPEAKER_11]: I've got to be in tune with this happening around.
16:14
[SPEAKER_11]: So for me, I was like, oh, wow, somebody's asking for that.
16:17
[SPEAKER_11]: They're asking for a level of preparedness coming into the work and respect of the work and then people are working with.
16:23
[SPEAKER_03]: And then promising it back.
16:24
[SPEAKER_03]: I would say it's tenfold.
16:25
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, and then what, that's it, really?
16:28
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that was pretty good.
16:29
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, well, it must have worked because I know you guys are even doing rot with them, too.
16:32
[SPEAKER_10]: So you're what Flavinger's now, right?
16:35
[SPEAKER_10]: That's the that's the word that I've got.
16:37
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's I love your goal to do for like iteration.
16:40
[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I have the pain.
16:42
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, I've heard that it's such a pleasure seeing you guys in it.
16:45
[SPEAKER_10]: Congratulations on the series and thank you so much for taking the time to talk.
17:00
[SPEAKER_10]: Sorry, I love it.
17:02
[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you.
17:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
17:04
[SPEAKER_10]: All right, a quick pause just to say that if you like what you're hearing right now, please do hit that subscribe button.
17:09
[SPEAKER_10]: It helps more than you think.
17:11
[SPEAKER_10]: We'll be right back right after this.
17:14
[SPEAKER_10]: And welcome back.
17:15
[SPEAKER_10]: All right.
17:16
[SPEAKER_10]: Let's continue this carry love vest.
17:19
[SPEAKER_10]: You can watch on prime video.
17:21
[SPEAKER_10]: Next, going to be talking with Allison Thornton and Josie Toda.
17:24
[SPEAKER_10]: Josie, remember from a Jesse, say by the bell, the Buccaneers, Champion, Faces of Death, Spider-Man Homecoming.
17:30
[SPEAKER_10]: We've seen Allison Thornton in Giltless, Derby, Cottonous Web, the Mental State.
17:36
[SPEAKER_10]: Let it snow.
17:37
[SPEAKER_10]: They play the bullies.
17:39
[SPEAKER_10]: They play Carries, Opposition, Tormentors.
17:42
[SPEAKER_10]: through a lot of it.
17:43
[SPEAKER_10]: So I want to ask about signing up for a character like that, see what they saw themselves, what they saw, what they could bring to it.
17:49
[SPEAKER_10]: And especially with Josie and her character, her character, Tina, was originally supposed to have kind of a small part, but Josie brought so much to it that Mike expanded it.
18:00
[SPEAKER_10]: So we're going to hear about all that.
18:01
[SPEAKER_10]: And more as we talk about Carrie on Prime Video, it's Kyle Meredith with
18:09
[SPEAKER_10]: Pleasure to see you both.
18:10
[SPEAKER_10]: You look far less villainous today here.
18:13
[SPEAKER_10]: So thank you.
18:16
[SPEAKER_10]: You got that going for you.
18:18
[SPEAKER_10]: No, seriously, it was both a great scene.
18:20
[SPEAKER_10]: Both of you on screen in this series.
18:22
[SPEAKER_10]: And it's such a great story.
18:25
[SPEAKER_10]: Alyssa, I want to start with you, though.
18:27
[SPEAKER_10]: You know, I'll use that word villains and again.
18:30
[SPEAKER_10]: Do you think she was always so hateful because we get some backstory on it, but everybody is so three-dimensional, but you really do get the lean into that.
18:39
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't think that Chris was always like that.
18:42
[SPEAKER_06]: I think she's really shaped by her parents, her father, and what she's been taught, and how she's been taught that cruelty wins, and you win at all costs, and you don't back down until you have as much power as possible.
18:57
[SPEAKER_06]: And I think, unfortunately, that ends up being to Chris's own detriment,
19:02
[SPEAKER_06]: And I think that the lack of support that she has at home plays a big part into why she's so cruel and just not really knowing who she is and her acting out and not having coping mechanisms or role models and influences how she treats carry a lot.
19:18
[SPEAKER_06]: But one of the tragedies to me is I think that Chris in a different environment, maybe with more time with Sue.
19:26
[SPEAKER_06]: Um, less of Billy would have been a completely different person.
19:30
[SPEAKER_06]: We could have been friends.
19:32
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
19:33
[SPEAKER_10]: Just seen a chip to weigh at or all over.
19:35
[SPEAKER_10]: I mean, it's it's it's heartbreaking.
19:37
[SPEAKER_10]: The complexity of emotions you go through and and and and Josie, uh, I'll kind of throw some similar to you, too, because when when you see these characters, the assign up because you work with Flanagan, the assign up because you get to remake a classic in a different sense or do you specifically see this character and go, I can play that.
19:54
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I think, I mean, my plan like he's just so amazing.
19:59
[SPEAKER_04]: And like I, my best friends obsessed with him and watches all of his shows and has watched them multiple times.
20:05
[SPEAKER_04]: So every time we've ever had a Superverter house, it's like Hill House or it's Usher.
20:10
[SPEAKER_04]: And when I was auditioning, I watched his filmography kind of from the beginning and starting with,
20:17
[SPEAKER_04]: uh, Oculus and and Hush and before I waken all of his films and then kind of just became obsessed with him myself.
20:26
[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, but then of course I got the audition and it was just like a desperate, like drunk girl, um, just being a bitch and I was like honey that this is my role.
20:36
[SPEAKER_04]: I got it in the bag.
20:38
[SPEAKER_06]: But you also make her so much more and so layered and so beautiful and
20:42
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, they're very kind.
20:43
[SPEAKER_10]: That's true because I think that's what I read, right?
20:46
[SPEAKER_10]: Like it wasn't supposed to be as much and whatever you brought, allowed Mike and the team to kind of expand the role, is that right?
20:54
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I was told on day one, they told me, you know, Mike doesn't like Tina.
21:01
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, they said Mike does not like Tina and that was in the morning.
21:04
[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, Oh, that's great.
21:05
[SPEAKER_04]: Like, but that to put it didn't put me down.
21:07
[SPEAKER_04]: I put a fire under my butt and I was like, I'm going to make him love Tina.
21:12
[SPEAKER_04]: And I remember we did the first rehearsal and he came up to me and he was like, I'm so happy you're here.
21:19
[SPEAKER_04]: I freaking love this role now and we're going to make this the best thing possible.
21:24
[SPEAKER_04]: And so, yeah, kind of, that was always kind of my, my drive, almost like to validate Christmas, like we need to make tea in a likeable and Mike so graciously and lovingly, like, foul in love with Tina as I did and gave me so much to play with that he didn't need to, because, you know, she's, you know, a piece of the puzzle that he made it much more than that.
21:51
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's just a credit to how amazing of a leader he is.
21:55
[SPEAKER_06]: I also want to jump in and say that Josie brought so much to Tina that wasn't on the page.
22:00
[SPEAKER_06]: Almost in every scene Josie was improvising and adding things that that nobody was expecting and it was so brilliant to watch and I think that everybody fell in love with Tina like right away.
22:10
[SPEAKER_06]: You're so kind.
22:12
[SPEAKER_10]: Well, it's great seeing both of you on the screen seriously and what you brought to these roles.
22:16
[SPEAKER_10]: Congrats on the series.
22:17
[SPEAKER_10]: It's been so great talking to you both.
22:19
[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you.
22:19
[SPEAKER_06]: Thank you so much.
22:20
[SPEAKER_10]: And thanks to Allison, Josie.
22:22
[SPEAKER_10]: Now pull it into the drive.
22:23
[SPEAKER_10]: We're going to finish this out with my conversation with Joe Alex and Arthur Conti.
22:28
[SPEAKER_10]: Arthur, you've seen in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
22:31
[SPEAKER_10]: and sons he'll be in the upcoming Ebenezer he was in teenage sex and death at can't me amasa and Joe outlets who you're a member from trickster abducted can I get a witness cascade where you're up monkey beach uh this is the Yin and the Yang uh Joel plays the very nice guy he's a boyfriend of one of the girls at school Arthur on the other hand
22:53
[SPEAKER_10]: teams up with with Allison's character to be an incredible tormentor.
22:58
[SPEAKER_10]: He's kind of the local drug dealer bad boys So so this is the the nice guy and the bad guy that we're gonna get into and I'm gonna ask both of them about that very thing right there and the muscle car that Arthur gets to drive
23:11
[SPEAKER_10]: and the fart machine that might cap on set just to lighten the mood every now and then.
23:15
[SPEAKER_10]: So let's get into it.
23:16
[SPEAKER_10]: It's carry on prime video, Kyle Meredith with Jill, Alette and Arthur Conti.
23:21
[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, how's it going?
23:23
[SPEAKER_10]: Well, pleasure to see you both healthy and alive.
23:29
[SPEAKER_10]: Congratulations on the series.
23:31
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, right.
23:33
[SPEAKER_10]: Arthur, I'll start with you, man.
23:36
[SPEAKER_10]: How easy is it to play this guy?
23:38
[SPEAKER_10]: Do you have to swallow something to get inside him?
23:42
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
23:45
[SPEAKER_07]: I think you have to find a way to empathize and like the character you're playing to an extent.
23:51
[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, I think I was... That was what my attention was for him to be... was for him to be likable.
23:57
[SPEAKER_07]: And for the audience to be conflicted about what they, they really felt about him.
24:03
[SPEAKER_07]: Because he has to be the luring and charismatic and all these things that help him to get what he wants.
24:10
[SPEAKER_07]: So there has to be certain aspects that you like about the character.
24:15
[SPEAKER_07]: But it does, yeah, it's not always...
24:21
[SPEAKER_10]: That's what I think when you're looking at the script and everything and you're like, I have to do that.
24:26
[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, I've got to be that guy at some point, you know, like fun with acting, but still, you know.
24:31
[SPEAKER_10]: That's fun.
24:32
[SPEAKER_10]: It is fun to do.
24:34
[SPEAKER_10]: Joel on the opposite side, you get to be this nice guy, but everybody in here seems to have alter your motives and I was the entire time trying to figure him out.
24:43
[SPEAKER_10]: Like, do you think he has any alter your motives?
24:47
[SPEAKER_09]: Do I think Tommy has any ulterior motives?
24:52
[SPEAKER_09]: I think maybe some of the future he wants with certain people in the show may be different from what they want.
25:01
[SPEAKER_09]: I feel like he kind of maybe fantasizes some sort of life like a perfect life for the future, but he is to realize that sometimes it doesn't always end up that way and you kind of just have to go with the flow.
25:15
[SPEAKER_10]: But always comes from a really nice spot.
25:17
[SPEAKER_10]: It's really sweet to see it, you know?
25:18
[SPEAKER_10]: On screen.
25:19
[SPEAKER_09]: It is sweet.
25:20
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
25:21
[SPEAKER_10]: Arthur, how's that muscle car?
25:23
[SPEAKER_10]: You get any time really in that?
25:24
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, yeah, I got it on there.
25:27
[SPEAKER_07]: I didn't get to drive it because he's got two thumbs and no license.
25:32
[SPEAKER_07]: Is that it?
25:35
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that was a big thing.
25:37
[SPEAKER_07]: Actually, it was the fact that I couldn't drive.
25:39
[SPEAKER_07]: I took two driving tests and passed either of them.
25:42
[SPEAKER_07]: And it was every time you see me driving in the show, it's a guy with a wig.
25:47
[SPEAKER_07]: Someone else I didn't get I did get to sit in it.
25:50
[SPEAKER_07]: It was hard to drive.
25:52
[SPEAKER_07]: It didn't really work Yeah, it can as well even if I had been able to drive it would have the professional stunt drive.
25:58
[SPEAKER_07]: It was like But it was like Yeah, I know it was a awesome car awesome power the big middle finger on the front
26:08
[SPEAKER_07]: He looked really convincing in it anyway, it's that.
26:11
[SPEAKER_07]: Let's go ahead and move you magic.
26:12
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, for if you can't drive, at least you've got that image.
26:15
[SPEAKER_10]: Is it going to change one day?
26:17
[SPEAKER_07]: You're going to get the license one day?
26:18
[SPEAKER_07]: Oh yeah, I get around.
26:20
[SPEAKER_07]: I'm in the backlog in the UK driving license.
26:23
[SPEAKER_07]: It takes like a year to get a test.
26:25
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that's just kind of.
26:27
[SPEAKER_07]: You have to do it at some point.
26:28
[SPEAKER_07]: You have to do it at some point, because you need it in America, especially, you need to do it at some point.
26:33
[SPEAKER_07]: Who's got the time?
26:33
[SPEAKER_07]: That's some point, at some point.
26:35
[SPEAKER_10]: We're either of you, um, uh, the subject of what I'm reading about on Mike's prank sound machine that he had out there.
26:43
[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
26:44
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
26:45
[SPEAKER_10]: Are you by the bell?
26:46
[SPEAKER_07]: We should.

26:52
[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, like.
26:55
[SPEAKER_09]: Well, yeah, there was the times in the classroom out.
26:57
