Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. After ten yard line, second to day free
- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion as Bumpers left to write
- 0:11Speaker 1: Julius Jones a single setback Matt pump Fecks looking at
- 0:14Speaker 1: the goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown. Sayhawks,
- 0:18Speaker 1: it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the end zone
- 0:23Speaker 1: our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and the kid
- 0:26Speaker 1: out of Washington State has found himself a place on
- 0:29Speaker 1: this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What's up, fos.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is Hot Talk Preview edition Week nine. The Tampa
- 0:37Speaker 1: Bay Buccaneers make the trip up north to take on
- 0:40Speaker 1: the six and two Seattle Seahawks. But like usual, before
- 0:43Speaker 1: we get into him, send it over to my producer
- 0:45Speaker 1: Nas for the injury updates. All right, thanks Michael. Well,
- 0:48Speaker 1: the big news on the injury front is definitely safety
- 0:50Speaker 1: Tedrick Thompson. He's going to IR with his shoulder injury.
- 0:54Speaker 1: He's got to get his labor room surgically repaired. So
- 0:56Speaker 1: that's definitely a tough blow to the Seahawks secondary. Definitely
- 0:59Speaker 1: hard to see Tedrick go down with that newly acquired
- 1:02Speaker 1: safety Quandre Digs. He's gonna go all the way up
- 1:05Speaker 1: to the weekend. He's been struggling to get on the
- 1:07Speaker 1: practice field and needs you that before he's able to play.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So it's going to be a long shot for him
- 1:11Speaker 1: this weekend. And some good news on the injury front.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Cornerback Trey Flowers, who missed last week, got back to
- 1:17Speaker 1: practice and he's hoping to be ready to play on Sunday.
- 1:20Speaker 1: All right, Michael, let's get into the seahawks Week nine opponent.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Like you said, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coming in with
- 1:25Speaker 1: a two and six record, has struggled as of late.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Dropped their last game to the Titans in a tight one,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and it sounded a little like this chucking down Tim
- 1:35Speaker 1: here's the snapp in Winston dropping has protection, throws the
- 1:38Speaker 1: ball over the medal intershofted that a little Brett Paraman.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Did he give up on his route? Don't know, but
- 1:46Speaker 1: the interception will in the ball game where the eighteen
- 1:49Speaker 1: second Ryan It's very similar to the one throne in
- 1:54Speaker 1: Godwin's direction earlier in the game. It turned out not
- 1:56Speaker 1: to be an interception. Not sure if Jamis is expecting
- 1:59Speaker 1: him to on that post first, he's staying wide in
- 2:02Speaker 1: the scene. But either way, this time it resulted in
- 2:05Speaker 1: a interception and ends a game for the Bucks. We
- 2:09Speaker 1: two interceptions, two fumbles by number three on the Tennessee Titans.
- 2:14Speaker 1: We'll improve the series lead to ten and two. At
- 2:18Speaker 1: the expense of our Buccaneers on this overcast day in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 2:22Speaker 1: They'll be playing sad songs all the way home to Tampa.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Damn all right, Michael, what did you see from the
- 2:28Speaker 1: Bucks last week? I'm another tough loss for the Bucks.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That's their third in a row. And it seems like
- 2:32Speaker 1: a common theme going on here with the Butts's turnovers, turnovers, turnovers,
- 2:36Speaker 1: wins and through two interceptions and fumbled twice against the Titans.
- 2:40Speaker 1: If you cannot take care of the football, your chance
- 2:42Speaker 1: of winning the game are extremely down. Arians has his back,
- 2:46Speaker 1: though he's not. He's not puting all the blame on
- 2:49Speaker 1: his quarterback. He's talking about the receivers here a little bit.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Everybody's gonna want to say, Okay, James through interceptions, Jamis
- 2:55Speaker 1: didn't go one damn interception. That was his fun. His
- 2:57Speaker 1: receivers let him down today. Guys OpEd on routes that
- 3:00Speaker 1: we're supposed to be going down the middle. The last
- 3:02Speaker 1: play we're supposed to go down the middle should have
- 3:03Speaker 1: been a big play. He played his tail off and
- 3:07Speaker 1: you can write what you want, but not one of
- 3:10Speaker 1: those interceptions. What's his fault? And it's a damn shame.
- 3:13Speaker 1: You know, we wasted some opportunities, the turnovers early in
- 3:19Speaker 1: the game. We fought back. Anything that happens in the
- 3:21Speaker 1: first quarter you can overcome. We overcame it. The big drive,
- 3:26Speaker 1: two interceptions that we're called back, and just it's frustrating
- 3:31Speaker 1: after further review listening to this. So he's talking about
- 3:34Speaker 1: those two interceptions in that game. He's not talking about
- 3:37Speaker 1: over the years. So okay, I get it. Because sometimes
- 3:39Speaker 1: receivers can cut the route short or maybe round the
- 3:41Speaker 1: wrong route. Jamis is anticipating a throw and it just
- 3:44Speaker 1: doesn't happen. It's cool to see him have his quarterbacks
- 3:47Speaker 1: back there. I mean maybe not if you're in the
- 3:49Speaker 1: wide receiver room. But the narrative is that Jamis just
- 3:52Speaker 1: turns the ball over way too much, and the numbers
- 3:54Speaker 1: kind of backed that up, so it might not be
- 3:56Speaker 1: just him Is the culprit in Tampa. Yeah, and the
- 3:59Speaker 1: bugs that are right the outgame that the Titans three
- 4:01Speaker 1: hundred and ninety eight yards to two forty six. But
- 4:03Speaker 1: this couldn't overcome the mistakes. Winston now has ten combined
- 4:07Speaker 1: turnovers over the past eight quarters. That must be frustrating,
- 4:11Speaker 1: especially now we're seeing or hearing that the coach isn't
- 4:15Speaker 1: putting all the blame on Jamis Winston. But at some
- 4:18Speaker 1: point you gotta take responsibility for your actions. I've watched
- 4:21Speaker 1: a few of these games. He's tossing the ball up
- 4:23Speaker 1: in the air. It's almost like a three flags that
- 4:24Speaker 1: we used to play back home. You throw the ball
- 4:26Speaker 1: up in the air. Whoever catches it three times gets
- 4:27Speaker 1: to be quarterback. It's starting to kind of look like
- 4:29Speaker 1: that to me. It's I mean, you can't win games
- 4:32Speaker 1: that way. I mean you just can't. And it's hard.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I mean, you look at the Seahawks. Rosy Bless Russell
- 4:37Speaker 1: Wilson's throwing the ball one time this year, just once,
- 4:40Speaker 1: So Seahawk fans take note. Things could be a lot
- 4:43Speaker 1: worse because, like Pete care always says, we take care
- 4:46Speaker 1: of the ball, and it's always about the ball. Always
- 4:47Speaker 1: about the ball. The Bucks were held to three field
- 4:50Speaker 1: goals in the first half. Twice when inside the Tennessee
- 4:53Speaker 1: five yard line, you would think you're on the five,
- 4:56Speaker 1: You're gonna get in your jumbo package, your hippo package.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Just pound the football. They just didn't get done. Tampa
- 5:01Speaker 1: Bay coach Bruce Aarons was upset with a losing TV
- 5:03Speaker 1: with three minutes and forty one left after linebacker Devin
- 5:06Speaker 1: White stopped Brett Kerns start up a fake plant, knocking
- 5:09Speaker 1: the ball out, Andrew Adams grabbed the football ran towards
- 5:12Speaker 1: the end zone, only to be whistled dead. Why did
- 5:14Speaker 1: they whistle this dead? It's it's hard to tell, you know.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I can't I can't speak for the officials, and I'm
- 5:19Speaker 1: not gonna get on him. But arians was upset, and
- 5:22Speaker 1: you think it's happened a lot where a lot of
- 5:24Speaker 1: times where let the place go on and then we
- 5:26Speaker 1: go back and review it. Unfortunately, and got whistled dead
- 5:29Speaker 1: and it cost the Bucks last week. That's tough on
- 5:31Speaker 1: the defensive side. It's almost like you have to play
- 5:33Speaker 1: out every single play past the whistle now because you
- 5:35Speaker 1: never know what's gonna happen. They're gonna go back to
- 5:37Speaker 1: a replay and try to figure things out. It's getting
- 5:40Speaker 1: tougher and tougher to play defense in NFL, that's for sure.
- 5:42Speaker 1: But despite the loss, receiver Mike Evans had a career
- 5:45Speaker 1: day eleven receptions, one hundred and ninety eight yards and
- 5:48Speaker 1: two touchdowns. This guy's a beast. He's been balling every
- 5:51Speaker 1: single year since he's been in the league. He might
- 5:53Speaker 1: give us a little bit of trouble when the Bucks
- 5:55Speaker 1: come up north. Oh, the secondary is gonna have their
- 5:58Speaker 1: hands full death lane. We'll get bring us right into
- 6:01Speaker 1: our key matchups. All right, our key matchups. First, we
- 6:04Speaker 1: got Jamis Winston versus everybody. The Seahawks need to take
- 6:07Speaker 1: the ball away. He's shown that he will give the
- 6:10Speaker 1: ball away. Let's take advantage that Winston has twelve interceptions
- 6:13Speaker 1: and six fumbles lost on the season. That is eighteen turnovers.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Our quarterback has how many one one? So stop talking
- 6:21Speaker 1: about Russell Wilson and that pick. It's okay, Well, we
- 6:24Speaker 1: can live with them. Russell's turned the ball over once
- 6:26Speaker 1: this season, like we said, But despite the turnovers, the
- 6:28Speaker 1: Bucks our fourth in the NFL and scoring average averaging
- 6:31Speaker 1: twenty eight per game. So maybe he's turning the ball
- 6:34Speaker 1: over because he's taking these risks. He feels like he
- 6:37Speaker 1: needs to put up points to have a chance to
- 6:39Speaker 1: win ball games. They got weapons, man, they got weapons
- 6:42Speaker 1: in despite their record, just like every every week you
- 6:45Speaker 1: play some of the NFL. These guys are professionals. They
- 6:46Speaker 1: get paid, they get coach. Everyone gets to coach their guys.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It's it's not gonna be walking the park on Sunday.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I know people are looking into this game this way,
- 6:53Speaker 1: but I promise you the Seahawks are not looking at
- 6:56Speaker 1: them this way because they got some weapons. Yes they do,
- 6:59Speaker 1: all right. Next match up Mike Evans versus the Seattle
- 7:02Speaker 1: Seahawks secondary. This guy has been a problem since he's
- 7:05Speaker 1: stepped foot in the NFL. He has the nothing but
- 7:09Speaker 1: ball in this league. He has over a thousand yards
- 7:11Speaker 1: receiving every year he's been in the league. I don't
- 7:13Speaker 1: know the history of this, but I feel like not
- 7:16Speaker 1: too many receivers have come in what has been the
- 7:18Speaker 1: league four years now. I believe this is yeah. I
- 7:20Speaker 1: think this is six six year and every year he's
- 7:22Speaker 1: been over a thousand yards. This guy special. He I mean,
- 7:24Speaker 1: the dude you watch him play and the things that
- 7:27Speaker 1: he can do with his body, his body control. He's
- 7:29Speaker 1: a big, physical receiver two, so he's gonna go up
- 7:31Speaker 1: and get the ball. He's a great route runner. He's
- 7:33Speaker 1: got thirty eight receptions, six hundred and sixty two yards
- 7:36Speaker 1: and six touchdowns already this season. Yeah. Sorry, And like Benching,
- 7:39Speaker 1: last week he had eleven for one hundred ninety eight
- 7:41Speaker 1: two touchdowns. I believe my best game was ten catches
- 7:44Speaker 1: for one eighty and a touchdown, but we lost that game.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Next matchup, Chris Goodwin verse the Seattle Seahawks secondary. Evans
- 7:52Speaker 1: is the only one who can ball. Chris in his
- 7:54Speaker 1: third season, is truly having a breakout year. Last year,
- 7:56Speaker 1: he had fifty nine catches for eight hundred forty two
- 7:58Speaker 1: yards and seventy d s through eight games. This year,
- 8:01Speaker 1: he already has forty seven receptions, seven hundred and five yards,
- 8:05Speaker 1: six touchdowns. That's two weeks in a row. We're playing
- 8:08Speaker 1: a nice, solid receiving corps. There's weapons over the field,
- 8:11Speaker 1: so honestly, I'm hoping Trey Flowers is someone that can
- 8:14Speaker 1: get back this week. And obviously Shaquille Griffin is having
- 8:17Speaker 1: easily the best year of his career. So hopefully both
- 8:20Speaker 1: those guys are back our secondary starting to get healthy.
- 8:22Speaker 1: We got some more depth there. But yeah, don't get
- 8:24Speaker 1: it twisted, man, They are gonna have their work cut
- 8:26Speaker 1: out for him on Sunday. They will have their work
- 8:28Speaker 1: cut off and maybe digs we'll help with that. Chris
- 8:31Speaker 1: Carson versus the Buccaneers front seven. The Buccaneers have the
- 8:35Speaker 1: league's best rushing defense by a lot. Now, before we
- 8:38Speaker 1: looked at the stats. If I came in here and said, ay, nas,
- 8:41Speaker 1: the Bucks got the best rushing defense in the league,
- 8:43Speaker 1: would you believe me? Probably not, man, I'd have to
- 8:45Speaker 1: go look up ESPN dot com or something. But the
- 8:48Speaker 1: numbers don't lie. Numbers don't lie. They only allow sixty
- 8:50Speaker 1: eight yards on the grounds per game. The next closest
- 8:52Speaker 1: team is New Orleans Saints, giving up eighty four yards.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Chris Carson and the Seahawks offensive line, they'll have their
- 8:59Speaker 1: hands full. Also, Linebacker Shaquill Barrett leads the defense with
- 9:04Speaker 1: ten sacks on the season. Ten sacks. This what do
- 9:07Speaker 1: we have eleven sacks or twelve sackson yea week as
- 9:10Speaker 1: a team we have twelve sacks. This guy has ten sacks.
- 9:12Speaker 1: He's gonna put pressure on the quarterback. Especially with the
- 9:15Speaker 1: injuries we have on the offensive line, Russell might have
- 9:18Speaker 1: to move around the pocket a little bit more this week.
- 9:21Speaker 1: See how it receivers versus Buccaneers secondary. While the Bucks
- 9:24Speaker 1: have the best rush defense in NFL, there's a secondary
- 9:28Speaker 1: is struggling the thirty first in NFL pass defense, giving
- 9:30Speaker 1: up two hundred and eighty five yards per game. We
- 9:33Speaker 1: throw for about two hundred a game. Maybe this is
- 9:35Speaker 1: another breakout game where Russell hits statuo fifty mark three
- 9:38Speaker 1: hundred mark. DK look is looking like a solid number
- 9:41Speaker 1: two receiver. Tyler Locke is doing this thame and we
- 9:44Speaker 1: always have a third receiver flash. This week it was
- 9:46Speaker 1: David Moore with a nice run. Willing Turner got involved.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm so I'm interested to see how Shotty in the
- 9:51Speaker 1: game exploits the secondary. I think the way I see
- 9:55Speaker 1: this game going, I think it's gonna start kind of slow,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and it's gonna be kind of a grind and they're
- 9:58Speaker 1: gonna get there because the Years have such a good
- 10:01Speaker 1: rush defense. But that's what we do. Yeah, so something's
- 10:03Speaker 1: gotta give, right we are at our best when we
- 10:06Speaker 1: run the football. Chris Carson has been an absolute monster
- 10:09Speaker 1: this year. Offensive line is getting better weekend and week out,
- 10:12Speaker 1: so something's got to give there. So I think we're
- 10:14Speaker 1: gonna try to wear them out early on, and it's
- 10:16Speaker 1: gonna kind of be slow, slow, slow, and that's gonna
- 10:17Speaker 1: set up deep play action stuff and open open the
- 10:20Speaker 1: field up for Locke in DK And I'm glad you
- 10:22Speaker 1: said that. You know, they should hand out notes to
- 10:25Speaker 1: the twelves when they come into stadium so they know, like, look,
- 10:27Speaker 1: we're gonna run the ball. But look they're really good
- 10:29Speaker 1: against this run. So don't get mad, don't get frustrated.
- 10:33Speaker 1: We have to set it up. We have to do
- 10:35Speaker 1: what we do to set up the plaction pass. I
- 10:36Speaker 1: believe the first play last game was a play action pass.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So I want to see how they counter this. This
- 10:43Speaker 1: great defensive line they got going here, all right, the
- 10:45Speaker 1: passive victory create turnovers. Jamie Wisson themselves has eighteen turners
- 10:49Speaker 1: over the year. Gotta take the ball away. The last
- 10:51Speaker 1: couple of weeks have been doing that. Let's keep the
- 10:53Speaker 1: party going. Come out strong after a halftime. Two weeks
- 10:56Speaker 1: in row, the Hawks have not looked like the same
- 10:58Speaker 1: team in the second half. Pea carroll themself on finishing.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You gotta get back today. It's not how you start,
- 11:04Speaker 1: it's how you finish. But I would like a nice
- 11:05Speaker 1: start as well. Yeah, and a good finish. Set the
- 11:11Speaker 1: tone and dictate the bucks they don't have. They have
- 11:14Speaker 1: a great run defense, but still needs to run the
- 11:16Speaker 1: ball to keep our offense on track. Don't get frustrated.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Take a two yard game, take a three yard game.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Sometimes you're gonna get stalled out. You have to establish
- 11:24Speaker 1: the run to set everything else up. And again we'll
- 11:27Speaker 1: be missing a couple of spots on the line. So
- 11:29Speaker 1: I just stick with it. Be patient, everything be fine.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Handle business at home. I've already lost two games at
- 11:34Speaker 1: home this season. That needs to change four and on
- 11:37Speaker 1: the road. First times is nineteen eighty lost two at home.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I don't know when's the last time we've done that
- 11:41Speaker 1: in the first uh four home games. But gotta take
- 11:44Speaker 1: care take care of home. One of the Hawks' greatest
- 11:46Speaker 1: advantages is Century Linkfield is the twelves. So we gotta
- 11:50Speaker 1: get back to doing what we do at the house,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and I think we will. Man, I think we're I
- 11:54Speaker 1: think we've had the two games we've lost, don't get
- 11:57Speaker 1: a twist. We lost the two playoff caliber football teams,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and we had a chance to win those games. And
- 12:02Speaker 1: both those games we lost at home. We gave up
- 12:04Speaker 1: too many points. We gave up fourteen points on offense.
- 12:07Speaker 1: We gave up in the first game of the Saints,
- 12:09Speaker 1: we gave up some we give a pump return and
- 12:12Speaker 1: allowed another score on defense. So if we take care
- 12:15Speaker 1: of the ball, we don't give it up. I think
- 12:17Speaker 1: that's gonna eliminate all those problems. And the twelves are
- 12:19Speaker 1: gonna be rocking. And we need to get to seven
- 12:21Speaker 1: and two. Get to seven and two, because you know
- 12:22Speaker 1: who we got a couple of weeks after that, the
- 12:24Speaker 1: good old Niners. All right, folks. That's another Hawk Talk
- 12:28Speaker 1: Preview edition, Week nine. The two and six Bucks come
- 12:32Speaker 1: up to the northwest of Face to six and two
- 12:35Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks has been real. I'm your host, Michael Pumps,
- 12:37Speaker 1: along with my producer Nasa Choby. We'll catch you next time.
- 13:00Speaker 1: After a year I had been ant
