- 0:02It's Monday, and you know what that means. Welcome to Have Faith. Let it begin.
- 0:09Podcast of inspiration. It's a podcast of hope.
- 0:14It's a podcast of faith, and it's a podcast of friendship.
- 0:19Here is your host, Angel Santana, and special co-host, Dr. E.
- 0:25We're a three-podcast time. That's it, man. Let's rock and roll. Three, two, one.
- 0:32Hello, everyone, and welcome back to Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 0:35Why do I say welcome back? Because it is a comeback episode.
- 0:39I'm your host, Angel Santana. And today, we got something that's amazing.
- 0:44But before we do that, someone's returning to the show.
- 0:47My guy, my co-hoster, my peanut butter to my jelly, Dr.
- 0:51E is back. And I am so happy. Dr. E, what's up, buddy?
- 0:55Listen, all my friends at Half-Faith, I want to let you know I wasn't away.
- 0:59Angel would not give me the microphone. I asked them, Angel, can we do an episode?
- 1:04No, I have this prerecorded. I already have one.
- 1:09I felt like I was the guy on the team that was being benched.
- 1:13I felt that maybe I did something wrong or maybe I insulted somebody.
- 1:18Listen, Coach Angel, Sully, to the bench.
- 1:22Not true. I had pre-recorded series and that's why.
- 1:25And I thought you were busy, but that's okay. Because you know what?
- 1:28I saved the best right now for what Monday's about. Today's conversation is going to be a real one.
- 1:33And if you didn't hear the Kroc podcast yesterday, I'm telling you,
- 1:37it is a must go to episode. It's a real life story.
- 1:40Another real life story that Dr. E puts out there.
- 1:43And it's something that you want to definitely check out.
- 1:45So if you haven't done that, pause, have faith, let it begin right now.
- 1:49Go listen to the Kroc Podcast and then come back because today's conversation
- 1:53continues on with that realism.
- 1:55It's honest, it's needed, and we're talking about something that hits home for
- 1:59so many of us, especially as fathers, as husbands, and as men.
- 2:04That's right. I'm putting Dr. Rita myself on the totem pole.
- 2:08Here we go. What do you do when life gets hard and your faith gets tested?
- 2:13How do you hold it together when everything around you feels like it's falling apart?
- 2:20So we're going to start with Dr. E. Dr. E, it's always a blessing to have you
- 2:24here, obviously, but let me ask you this main question right out the gate.
- 2:29When life gets hard, what's the first thing that you would say that gets tested
- 2:36for you? Is it your patience or is it your faith?
- 2:39You know, I got to be honest with you. It's my hardships, you know,
- 2:44that occur in my life as they occur in everyone's life are the moments where
- 2:49I'm closest, you know, to my spirituality, to my creator.
- 2:53It is actually when it happens, there's almost a part of me that I can't say
- 2:59is happy that I'm being challenged,
- 3:01but there's a part of me that feels like
- 3:04this is really the person that I should
- 3:07be all the time because what my challenges come
- 3:10from in my personal relationship with my spiritual side is when things are going
- 3:17great and I feel undefeatable and I feel like I'm top of the world and I feel
- 3:23nothing can touch me and I feel that I'm all that in a bag of chips,
- 3:28that's where my spirituality often flounders as opposed to when I'm being tested.
- 3:34That's where I feel I'm closest. I'm taking the closer walk.
- 3:39I'm feeling very close to God at that point.
- 3:42And again, I hate to repeat myself, but those are the moments that I feel most centered,
- 3:48Yeah. And you know, what's funny is that, you know, one thing I've been thinking
- 3:51about a lot this week as men, we carry a lot.
- 3:54And as fathers and as husbands, we, you know, I realized people depend on us.
- 3:59So let me look at here's Noah coming right now.
- 4:01No, I got a question for you. Let's ask Dr. E this question. Ready?
- 4:04Dr. E, do you feel that like men today are expecting to carry everything without breaking?
- 4:09Where do you think that pressure comes from? And how have you ever had a moment
- 4:13where you felt like, I don't know if I can keep doing this.
- 4:16And when you feel like that, where do you go?
- 4:20Yeah, no, of course. Well, I think there is some good news for men.
- 4:23I think that that old model where, you know, there's that sort of paternalistic
- 4:27view of the world where men are stronger and they're smarter and they're,
- 4:31you know, the responsibilities on a man's shoulders are too much for any woman to carry.
- 4:38You know, I think that that model is quickly being eradicated, which is good.
- 4:44I don't know how that happened. I don't know how we let that happen where the
- 4:49men made all the decisions and they're the ones who voted and they were always
- 4:53the COOs and they were always the doctors and the lawyers and the chiefs of
- 4:57industry and that women were thought of as second-class citizens.
- 5:02I think that it's a world now where it's a gender-free world.
- 5:08I think that men, women, we all get tested, you know, all of our spirituality,
- 5:13all of our, you know, all of the hardships in life, you know,
- 5:17I think we can share, you know, with our partners, with the people who are in our lives now, whether,
- 5:23whatever relationship you're in, whether you're in a marriage or whether you
- 5:27have a significant other, you know, it's really, you know.
- 5:32Irrelevant what the circumstances are, but,
- 5:35And hopefully God put someone in your life that can share the burden with you.
- 5:40Yeah. And as we're getting ready to close out this morning's episode,
- 5:42I want to like to ask him one more thing.
- 5:44But before I do that, I think there are moments where we don't even talk about
- 5:47it either. We just carry it.
- 5:49I know that that's something I struggle with. I mean, let's bring this all back to faith now, right?
- 5:53Because it's easy to have faith when everything is going right, just like you said.
- 5:57But it's different when you're in that storm.
- 5:59Just exactly what you said. And what it does look like for me to trust in God,
- 6:06I would say I put just everything at his feet. You know, we've just had Easter.
- 6:12We just had, you know, a very, very amazing holiday. I call it the best holiday
- 6:18since Christmas, to be very honest with you.
- 6:20I love Easter. I love the resurrection.
- 6:23But I'm going to leave you with one last question. It's kind of like a two-parter.
- 6:27For you, have you ever had a moment where your faith was all that you had left?
- 6:33And what would you say to someone, in your opinion, who is praying but feels
- 6:38like God maybe isn't listening? Maybe he's silent.
- 6:42How do you keep that faith? Yeah, you know, as a matter of fact,
- 6:44many times in my life, that's all I had was my faith. And I think that I would
- 6:48just tell that person who was in need or in crisis that.
- 6:56That God will never leave your side, angel. That's one of your quotes that you say.
- 7:02God is actually there to carry you. Your famous footprints, you know,
- 7:07metaphor, where, you know, during those tough times, they will,
- 7:11you know, our Lord will carry us and things get better.
- 7:15Everything ebbs and flows in our life and things will not be in crisis forever.
- 7:22Amen. So let's do this. We're going to bring this home strong.
- 7:25This conversation right here that you just heard, that's real life because we
- 7:29don't always have the answers.
- 7:30We don't always have it all together. But one thing we do have is our faith.
- 7:35So to every father, every husband, every man listening right now,
- 7:39and I encourage the women to come on the show, you have your moment.
- 7:43You will have your moment.
- 7:44You don't have to have, you know, you don't have to be a perfect guy,
- 7:48by the way, to the men out there, but you do have to hold onto your faith.
- 7:52Because even when life gets heavy, your faith is what keeps you standing.
- 7:57So here's your prayer. Lord, give strength to every man listening today.
- 8:01Remind them that they're not alone. Remind them to say, yes,
- 8:05dear, and help them trust you through every single storm, even if it's coming from the wife.
- 8:12No, I'm just kidding. It's an inside joke.
- 8:16He said that. I didn't say that.
- 8:19But got to have a little humor. But listen, at the end of the day,
- 8:22we are all God's children.
- 8:24And I hope that if we are being tested on both ends, I hope you realize that
- 8:28you can put it at God's feet.
- 8:30So may God be with you. May he shine his light upon you and grant each and every
- 8:33single one of you peace on earth and never forget.
- 8:36Faith, let it begin, baby. Take care, everyone. Until next time.
