- 0:00Speaker 1: At the Lunar Fleet Base, Commander Buzz Corey and Cadet
- 0:03Speaker 1: Happy are preparing to test a closely guarded new ship
- 0:07Speaker 1: with a star drive. Then criminals take control of the mission,
- 0:11Speaker 1: leaving the two space patrolmen trapped in hyperspace, and an
- 0:16Speaker 1: unusual broadcast from October 1972 becomes part of the emergency.
- 0:21Speaker 1: From ABC, with Ed Kemmer as Commander Corey and Lynn
- 0:25Speaker 1: Osborne as Cadet Happy, this is Space Patrol, Episode 105,
- 0:30Speaker 1: The Voice from the Future, first heard October 2nd, 1954. Now,
- 0:35Speaker 1: back to the golden age of radio.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Nestle's Ever-Ready, the instant cocoa. Nestle's quick for great chocolate milk.
- 0:49Speaker 2: And Nestle's chocolate bars present Space Patrol. High adventure in
- 0:57Speaker 2: the wild, vast reaches of space. Missions of daring in
- 1:00Speaker 2: the name of interplanetary justice. Travel into the future with
- 1:04Speaker 2: Buzz Torrey, commander-in-chief of the Space Patrol. In today's transcribed
- 1:12Speaker 2: space patrol adventure, Buzz and Adley have just rescued two
- 1:15Speaker 2: men from a damaged space freighter. Right now, in their spaces,
- 1:19Speaker 2: they're helping the two men through the airlock into the
- 1:21Speaker 2: space patrol ship.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Close the hatch, Hap.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 1:24Speaker 3: We can raise our face pieces now.
- 1:27Speaker 4: The captain will take you back after that. Thanks. Captain,
- 1:33Speaker 4: I think you'd better hold it. I've got something in
- 1:36Speaker 4: this box that'll make it feel better. Perfect, Captain. Not quite.
- 1:40Speaker 4: And if you don't get your hands up, you'll need
- 1:42Speaker 4: more than first aid. Commander, it's a blast. Take it
- 1:44Speaker 4: over to the ship.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We'll return in just a moment with today's exciting Space
- 1:53Speaker 2: Patrol adventure, The.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Voice from the Future. It's hot stuff. What's hot stuff?
- 2:02Speaker 4: Nestle's Ever Ready Cocoa. That's hot stuff. That's what I said.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Nestle's Ever Ready Cocoa is hot stuff. So what are
- 2:09Speaker 4: we arguing about? I have stopped mixing me up.
- 2:11Speaker 2: There's no argument about Nestle's Ever Ready because everybody agrees
- 2:15Speaker 2: it makes the most wonderful cup of hot chocolate in
- 2:18Speaker 2: the universe.
- 2:18Speaker 4: You set a mouthful, Captain Tufel.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Nestle's makes such a rich, chocolatey, delicious hot chocolate, it's
- 2:23Speaker 5: out of this world. And there's no mixing up either
- 2:25Speaker 5: because Nestle's Ever Ready practically makes itself.
- 2:28Speaker 4: That's right.
- 2:28Speaker 2: All you do is put one, two, three teaspoons of
- 2:31Speaker 2: Nestle's Ever Ready in your cup, you add hot water,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and it's made.
- 2:35Speaker 4: You don't have to add milk or sugar, because Nestle's
- 2:37Speaker 4: is complete.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yes, Nestle's has rich, whole milk and sugar already in it.
- 2:42Speaker 4: And you know something? What I like best about Nestle's
- 2:45Speaker 4: is that sensational Nestle's flavor. There's nothing quite like it.
- 2:48Speaker 4: It's real chocolatey, too. A terrific treat any time of
- 2:51Speaker 4: day or night.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Glad you mentioned that, Hat, because we always recommend hot
- 2:54Speaker 2: chocolate made with Nestle's for a breakfast warm-up. But we
- 2:58Speaker 2: also like to see space patrollers drink it at all
- 3:00Speaker 2: their meals and.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Snacks, too. Now, what did you say was the name
- 3:03Speaker 4: of this product? Oh, Hap, you're kidding me again. You
- 3:06Speaker 4: know it couldn't be anything but Nestle's Ever Ready Cocoa.
- 3:10Speaker 4: In the bright red can, that's Nestle's, and it's hot stuff.
- 3:17Speaker 2: And now, today's space patrol adventure, The Voice from the Future.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Commander Corey and Cadet Happy have just arrived at the
- 3:24Speaker 2: lunar fleet base on the Earth's moon. They're on a
- 3:27Speaker 2: mission so secret that not even Happy knows the purpose
- 3:30Speaker 2: of their rapid space flight from Terra to the solar
- 3:33Speaker 2: system's most closely guarded test base. Right now, in an
- 3:37Speaker 2: office reserved for the commander at the Lunar Fleet Base,
- 3:40Speaker 2: Buzz slides open a large metal cabinet revealing a panel
- 3:44Speaker 2: covered with a maze of instruments, control levers, gauges, and switches.
- 3:49Speaker 4: There you are, Happy. What do you think? Wow, it's wonderful.
- 3:53Speaker 4: A model of a rocket cockpit. Mm-hmm. It's a mock-up
- 3:55Speaker 4: of the control section of the new rocket ship. You
- 3:58Speaker 4: don't mean the new Star Drive job? The big hush-hush operation?
- 4:01Speaker 4: That's it. Project Infinity has been completed. Or it will be,
- 4:04Speaker 4: as soon as you make a pass. Project Infinity. So
- 4:07Speaker 4: that's what the code name stands for. The new Star
- 4:09Speaker 4: Drive patrol ship. Well, when do we blast off?
- 4:12Speaker 2: The engineers are making a final inspection now. Rather than
- 4:14Speaker 2: get in their way, I thought I'd give you a
- 4:16Speaker 2: special briefing on this model.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Sure need it. It looks different from the Star Drive
- 4:19Speaker 4: control we've been using. This is a multi-purpose ship. It
- 4:23Speaker 4: can be used for regular patrols.
- 4:24Speaker 2: In our solar system as well as for interstellar channels.
- 4:26Speaker 5: This cockpit has got everything. U-scope, space-o-phone, decoders, hyperspace computers.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yes, anti-gravity controls and ultra-sensitive radiation indicators.
- 4:35Speaker 4: It's prepared for almost anything you'll encounter anywhere in space.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I see.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I just noticed there's atomic cannon controls. How far are
- 4:41Speaker 2: we going to take this flight, Commander? To Alpha Centauri,
- 4:44Speaker 2: a little over four light-years away. One thing I've been
- 4:46Speaker 2: wondering about, though. Why all the secrecy? We don't have
- 4:49Speaker 2: to worry about any trouble from Tehran anymore. We can't
- 4:51Speaker 2: be sure that some of the solar system doesn't have
- 4:53Speaker 2: spies here in the United Planets.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Uh-oh. Something's happened that I haven't heard about. I can
- 4:58Speaker 4: tell by your tone, sir. Yes, sir.
- 4:59Speaker 2: There's already been an attempt to steal the hyperspace driver's lands. Fortunately,
- 5:04Speaker 2: the attempt was poor, but we don't know whether the
- 5:06Speaker 2: people's from one of our planets or from another solar system. Well,
- 5:09Speaker 2: maybe some Tehranian spies are still here and don't know
- 5:12Speaker 2: that their attack planes are all washed up?
- 5:13Speaker 4: Whoever's responsible, we can't afford to take chances. Let's go
- 5:16Speaker 4: over this rocket cockpit model in detail, and we'll be
- 5:19Speaker 4: ready for the real test.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Elsewhere in the office of the Red Star Space Lines
- 5:26Speaker 2: in Lowell City on the planet Mars, Rort Dexter leans
- 5:30Speaker 2: back in his chair and stares dreamily at the huge
- 5:33Speaker 2: space chart on the wall.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Behind Dexter, the door opens.
- 5:37Speaker 2: And Nate Sorens shambles in and settles his huge frame
- 5:41Speaker 2: in the only remaining chair.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Oh, man. Something wrong, sir?
- 5:50Speaker 2: There's something wrong, he says. I just made my last
- 5:53Speaker 2: flight for Red Star. I'm out of a job. Man,
- 5:56Speaker 2: working for Red Star is no recommendation. You'll be lucky
- 5:59Speaker 2: to get a job shipping paint.
- 6:00Speaker 6: The trouble with you, Thorin, is you're always looking on
- 6:04Speaker 6: the dark side of things.
- 6:06Speaker 2: What other side is there? Things are as black as...
- 6:08Speaker 2: What was that space chart? Look, there goes our last ship.
- 6:12Speaker 2: When it sets down at Jupiter City, that light will
- 6:14Speaker 2: blink out. You will be operations chief of a grounded fleet.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Those old traitors have served their purpose. They sure have, Lester,
- 6:22Speaker 4: and so have you.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I just hope you made a fortune out of hijacking
- 6:26Speaker 2: cargo from other outfits.
- 6:26Speaker 4: You're going to have to live on it for a
- 6:28Speaker 4: long time. Soren, how would you like to continue working
- 6:33Speaker 4: from here? Doing what? Doing the things you know. Spaceships.
- 6:38Speaker 4: We're going back into the shipping business. Under a different name,
- 6:41Speaker 4: I suppose. Ah, that's nice. Did the space patrol get
- 6:44Speaker 4: on to us or nothing? It wouldn't do them any good.
- 6:46Speaker 4: They'll never be able to catch us.
- 6:48Speaker 2: You're crazy. They caught us before, didn't they? That's why
- 6:51Speaker 2: we're both out of a job, remember?
- 6:53Speaker 4: All right. Listen.
- 6:55Speaker 6: We're going to have an interstellar ship. It's Star Drive.
- 6:59Speaker 6: We make our deliveries through hyperspace.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I know you're crazy. Am I?
- 7:05Speaker 6: Listen to this. Cory's going to test one of those
- 7:08Speaker 6: new Star Drive ships. He's at the Lunar Fleet Base
- 7:11Speaker 6: right now.
- 7:11Speaker 4: I'll have to find that out.
- 7:14Speaker 6: All right.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I have very good sources of information. I almost got
- 7:18Speaker 4: a copy of the designs of the new rocket cockpit.
- 7:22Speaker 6: When my agent failed, I got the idea.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Of sealing the ship itself. It's much better. It saves
- 7:27Speaker 4: us the time and expense of building one of our own.
- 7:32Speaker 4: What's my copy?
- 7:33Speaker 6: 25% of our profit. And that's pretty good for a pilot.
- 7:38Speaker 6: And you don't take the risk you did under the
- 7:40Speaker 6: old set-up.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Well, all of a sudden, this is beginning to make sense.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Of course. And as I say, there's no risk.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Once you cut into hyperspace, the Space Patrol can never
- 7:51Speaker 6: trail you.
- 7:52Speaker 2: The big question now is, how do we get that
- 7:55Speaker 2: new ship away from the Space Patrol?
- 7:57Speaker 6: I've got it all figured out. The test vector is
- 8:00Speaker 6: supposed to be top secret. But I've picked up a
- 8:02Speaker 6: little information.
- 8:04Speaker 4: And here's the lady next. In time, back at the
- 8:09Speaker 4: Lunar Fleet Base, Buzz and.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Happy are in the rocket cockpit of the new Star
- 8:13Speaker 2: Drive ship, all set to blast off. Men of Corrie
- 8:17Speaker 2: aboard test ship SD-1 calling Lunar Space Control.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Space Control, Lunar here, Commander.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Depress space lock clearance for immediate blast off.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Space lock number three ready as ordered, sir.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Space lock to be confirmed. Corrie out.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Set magnetic compensator for space lock three.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yes, sir. Five seconds. Three seconds. Fire rockets. We're on vector, sir.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Acceleration increasing.
- 9:11Speaker 2: We'll hold it at this rate until we're beyond the
- 9:12Speaker 2: Jupiter orbit. Then we'll increase to attain star drive velocity
- 9:15Speaker 2: near Neptune.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Uh-oh. Manny, could you focus here? It's a state ship.
- 9:19Speaker 4: It looks like a cargo ship, sir. What are we
- 9:22Speaker 4: doing clear on here? We're happening to be in free fall.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I don't see any rocket flying. What do we do?
- 9:27Speaker 4: We turn vector? All the trouble we took to make
- 9:30Speaker 4: a nice private test from old Hawksland is gone.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Pairs hat will give them a wide berth. Fire starboard rockets.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Cargo ship JF-307 calling Space Patrol. Emergency.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Emergency?
- 9:40Speaker 3: Is that him?
- 9:41Speaker 4: Get the Space.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Patrol and fix the call to answer.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Cargo ship JF-307 calling Space Patrol. Ship now 10 DUs
- 9:47Speaker 2: off our starboard.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Emergency.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Yes, sir, it's him. And he's calling us. He's on
- 9:50Speaker 4: our way, probably. It's not too serious of an emergency
- 9:53Speaker 4: for the control unit. Space Patrol, a cargo ship JF-307.
- 9:56Speaker 4: What's your difficulty?
- 9:58Speaker 3: We're badly damaged.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Our power's out.
- 10:00Speaker 3: We've got to abandon ship. We're in spacesuits now.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Can you hold out in free fall until a tow
- 10:04Speaker 4: ship gets here from Jupiter?
- 10:06Speaker 3: We're in a real spot.
- 10:07Speaker 2: My partner's injured, and we're taking a lot of radiation.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Radiation? Yes.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Something went wrong with our reactor shielding.
- 10:13Speaker 4: What happened? The meteor hit you?
- 10:14Speaker 3: Worse. Sabotaged.
- 10:16Speaker 4: We'll get you off that ship right away. How many
- 10:17Speaker 4: are aboard?
- 10:18Speaker 3: Two, my partner and I.
- 10:19Speaker 4: He's injured. Yes, but he can walk.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Look, the radiation counts way above the danger point. It'll
- 10:24Speaker 2: take you several minutes to.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Maneuver into position.
- 10:26Speaker 4: We'll make it as fast as we can. Oh, wait.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Have you got a space raft aboard?
- 10:30Speaker 3: Yes, I was just about to suggest it.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Fine. You get your friend aboard the raft and get
- 10:33Speaker 4: away from your ship. Even a few hundred yards will
- 10:35Speaker 4: cut down the radiation count considerably. Hurry, hurry up. Well, Hap,
- 10:39Speaker 4: you're going to have to be late.
- 10:40Speaker 2: You've got to see that those men get medical attention.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Bring out a couple of spaces, Hap. You're going to
- 10:46Speaker 4: have to help that injured man into the airlock.
- 10:52Speaker 2: A few moments later, Buzz decelerates the spaceship as he
- 10:55Speaker 2: sights the tiny space raft floating away from the damaged
- 10:58Speaker 2: cargo ship under the proportion of compressed air from the jetpack.
- 11:02Speaker 2: With rockets cut off, Buzz and Happy stand in the
- 11:05Speaker 2: airlock of their ship, looking through the open hatch as
- 11:07Speaker 2: the raft maneuvers closer.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Stand according to space raft. Can you read me? Yes, Commander.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Accelerate with your forward jetpack. It'll save your pal a
- 11:15Speaker 3: rough bump. Sure. The raft is secured, sir. Magnetic field
- 11:23Speaker 3: is holding it steady. Is your partner conscious?
- 11:26Speaker 4: Yes, but he's pretty weak.
- 11:27Speaker 3: We'll help him aboard.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Come on, pal. On your feet.
- 11:33Speaker 3: We're safe now. That's it. I've got his arm. There
- 11:38Speaker 3: you go. Have a study of him while I help
- 11:40Speaker 3: you up. I can manage fine, thanks. You'd better let
- 11:43Speaker 3: me take that box with you aboard.
- 11:45Speaker 4: It's okay, just some personal effects. All right.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Close the hatch, Hap. Let's get into the ship. Yes, sir.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I'll get the inner hatch. Okay. We can raise our
- 12:00Speaker 3: place pieces now.
- 12:04Speaker 4: The cadet will take you back after you can get
- 12:06Speaker 4: out of those spacesuits. I have that injured man. We'd
- 12:09Speaker 4: better hold him. Yes, sir. I've got something in this
- 12:12Speaker 4: box that'll make him feel better. Oh, a first aid kit, huh?
- 12:15Speaker 4: Not quite. If you don't get your hands up, you'll
- 12:17Speaker 4: need more than first aid. Commander, it's a blast gun.
- 12:19Speaker 4: You're taking over the ship, Torrey. Just obey orders. You'll
- 12:22Speaker 4: find it's a simple way to stay alive.
- 12:29Speaker 2: We'll return to Space Patrol in just a moment. Now
- 12:33Speaker 2: hear this, Space Patrollers. The most important announcement we have
- 12:37Speaker 2: ever made. Right now, today, you can get a model
- 12:47Speaker 2: of the Rocket Cockpit, a scientific, accurate scale model of
- 12:51Speaker 2: the new Star Drive patrol ship called Project Infinity. It's
- 12:55Speaker 2: the very one Commander Corey and Cadet Happy are testing
- 12:58Speaker 2: in this exciting adventure.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Gang, listen to this.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Your model rocket cockpit has everything the real one has,
- 13:04Speaker 2: a big moving view scope that shows you all the
- 13:06Speaker 2: major planets and tells you their names. You can send
- 13:09Speaker 2: and decode secret messages with the Master Coders. They have
- 13:13Speaker 2: a system that will be known only to space patrollers,
- 13:16Speaker 2: and you'll get a big bang out of a sensational
- 13:18Speaker 2: atomic cannon. They have real sighting mechanisms, and you can
- 13:22Speaker 2: fire projectiles accurately from Porter's starboard side. You'll control gravity
- 13:26Speaker 2: with the thrust handles that govern special rocket mechanisms. And
- 13:30Speaker 2: you'll be able to set the special time computers, the
- 13:32Speaker 2: Star Drive, the secret invention that takes you through time
- 13:36Speaker 2: at heretofore unbelievable speeds. Yes, gang, your model rocket cockpit
- 13:41Speaker 2: has all these moving parts and plenty of other dials, computers,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and control devices. And it's so real-looking, you'll feel you're
- 13:48Speaker 2: in your own ship, having all kinds of exciting adventures.
- 13:51Speaker 4: For yourself and your pals.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Your rocket cockpit stands more than a foot high, almost
- 13:55Speaker 2: two feet wide, and it has nine moving controls. And
- 13:59Speaker 2: there'll be lots more fun for you if you can
- 14:01Speaker 2: follow along in your rocket cockpit and receive the secret
- 14:04Speaker 2: messages the commander will be sending out from time to time.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Now, I'm sure that every one of you listening today
- 14:10Speaker 4: will want to send for your very own rocket cockpit.
- 14:13Speaker 4: So here's what you do.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Send your name and address and 25 cents in coins
- 14:19Speaker 2: plus two wrappers from any size Nestle's chocolate bars to Nestle,
- 14:24Speaker 2: Box 54, St.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Louis, Missouri.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Again, it's your name and address and 25 cents in
- 14:31Speaker 2: coins plus wrappers from any two Nestle's chocolate bars to Nestle,
- 14:36Speaker 2: Box 54, St.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Louis, Missouri.
- 14:39Speaker 2: And hurry, fellas and girls, don't miss a minute of
- 14:42Speaker 2: the fun of owning your very own Rocket Cockpit. And now,
- 14:49Speaker 2: back to our space patrol adventure, The Voice from the Future.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Buzz and Hattie are making a test flight of a
- 14:55Speaker 2: new Star Drive ship when they're hailed by a cargo
- 14:58Speaker 2: ship claiming to have been sabotaged. Leaving the two occupants
- 15:01Speaker 2: of the cargo vessel to be in danger of radiation
- 15:03Speaker 2: from the damaged ship, Buzz orders them to launch a
- 15:06Speaker 2: space raft and leave the wreck. The space patrolers pull
- 15:09Speaker 2: the two men aboard their ship, whereupon one of the
- 15:11Speaker 2: men suddenly produces a blast gun from a metal.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Box he's carrying.
- 15:15Speaker 2: As the orders buzz and happy to raise their hands,
- 15:17Speaker 2: the other man, supposedly injured, briskly steps forward.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Keep them covered, Sawyer. Walk, Dexter.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yes, Commander.
- 15:26Speaker 6: By the way, I owe you something for putting the
- 15:28Speaker 6: Red Star Line out of operation.
- 15:30Speaker 4: You did that yourself by your crooked methods. I am
- 15:33Speaker 4: back in business, Corey, as of this minute.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Let's not stick around here too long, Dexter. You better
- 15:39Speaker 2: make Corey get us away from here. We will need
- 15:41Speaker 2: him to operate the regular.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Rocket, John.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Besides, there is probably a technical manual aboard if we
- 15:48Speaker 6: get stuck. In fact, I think all you do to
- 15:51Speaker 6: cut in the rockets is press this lever.
- 15:55Speaker 4: You got.
- 15:59Speaker 3: It!
- 16:02Speaker 4: That'll get us far out of the tank.
- 16:05Speaker 6: We'll look up Corey and the cadet and try to
- 16:07Speaker 6: figure out that star drive.
- 16:08Speaker 4: I'm warning you, Dexter, don't play around with that hyperspace drive.
- 16:11Speaker 4: It involves the kind of arithmetic where two and two
- 16:13Speaker 4: don't always make four. I can figure it out. And
- 16:17Speaker 4: if I get stuck, I'll make you give us a hand.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you'd be surprised, Corey, what Dexter and I already
- 16:23Speaker 2: know about the star drive.
- 16:25Speaker 4: You'd be surprised what you don't know about it. Lauren,
- 16:28Speaker 4: march him back up and lock him up. I'm going
- 16:30Speaker 4: to get this ship.
- 16:31Speaker 6: Into hyperspace before Cory's outfit starts searching for him.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Locked in an aft compartment of the ship, Buzz and
- 16:41Speaker 2: Happy are helpless as Dexter and Soren fumble.
- 16:43Speaker 4: With the star drive controls. You think they'll be able
- 16:46Speaker 4: to work it, sir? They might hit them the right
- 16:48Speaker 4: procedure just by chance. Maybe one of the other ships
- 16:50Speaker 4: will come along looking for us when we don't report back.
- 16:52Speaker 4: They're going to stop Dexter. They'd better do it before
- 16:54Speaker 4: he stumbles onto the star drive. They've hit the combinations.
- 16:59Speaker 4: We're going into star drive. They aren't up at peak
- 17:03Speaker 4: rocket velocity. I'm blacking out. So am I. I bet
- 17:08Speaker 4: they are, too. If we come to first, maybe we
- 17:11Speaker 4: can break out of here.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Under the stress of a sudden transition from regular three-dimensional
- 17:23Speaker 2: space to hyperspace, Buzz and Happy lose consciousness. Then, as
- 17:28Speaker 2: they lie on the deck of the compartment, they dimly
- 17:30Speaker 2: become aware of the strange pulsations of a hyperspace drive.
- 17:35Speaker 2: For what seems like hours, they're unable to move. Even
- 17:38Speaker 2: their minds are sluggish, unable to concentrate. At last, Buzz
- 17:42Speaker 2: struggles to his feet and tugs at Hattie.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Come on, Hattie. Try to stop him. He's sort of strange,
- 17:50Speaker 4: like I'm half-dreaming.
- 17:51Speaker 2: We've got to find out what's going on up in
- 17:53Speaker 2: the rocket cockpit.
- 17:55Speaker 4: He's still in star drive, from the sound of it,
- 17:56Speaker 4: isn't he?
- 17:57Speaker 2: He is.
- 17:58Speaker 4: I've never been in hyperspace this long before.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Not even when we made that half-million light-year trip several
- 18:03Speaker 5: weeks ago.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Let's see if we can get that compartment door open. Yes, sir. Well,
- 18:09Speaker 4: one thing about this ship, it's built strong. Now, hold
- 18:12Speaker 4: it there. Somebody's unlocking the door.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Be on guard.
- 18:16Speaker 4: We can overpower them now. Corey. Sorry. Corey. I've got him, Commander. Corey, help. Dexter, he's...
- 18:27Speaker 4: Something's wrong with Sonya. That's just going crazy. The ship,
- 18:32Speaker 4: it's out of control. Captain, head back in there. Yes, sir.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Lock him up and get up in the cockpit. Hurry.
- 18:50Speaker 4: All right, Corey. Take it easy. I got you covered.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Got yourself in a fine mess, Dexter. Are you going
- 18:56Speaker 4: to get me out? Fix this star drive. Go on,
- 18:59Speaker 4: get busy. What did you do to your pal, Soren?
- 19:01Speaker 4: He went off. He's locked up. Where is he? Locked
- 19:04Speaker 4: up back there. He said you were crazy. Tell me
- 19:07Speaker 4: what's wrong.
- 19:08Speaker 6: Everything's black outside the ship.
- 19:11Speaker 4: No stars, nothing. Just pitch blackness. The way it always
- 19:14Speaker 4: is in hyperspace. We're in another dimension. Light doesn't register.
- 19:17Speaker 4: There's some light, I thought. Flashes of blue and violet.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Real mixed up and crazy.
- 19:23Speaker 6: Hurry.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Hurry. You got to get us out of this. Just
- 19:25Speaker 4: keep under control. I'll take a look at the hyperspace computer.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Are these instruments exactly as you first set them up? I, uh, no.
- 19:32Speaker 4: I blacked out.
- 19:34Speaker 6: And when I came to, that blackness out there got
- 19:36Speaker 6: me worried, so I started turning the dial.
- 19:38Speaker 2: You really messed things up. You aren't supposed to change
- 19:40Speaker 2: a thing while the ship's in hyperspace. It throws us
- 19:42Speaker 2: clear off vector.
- 19:43Speaker 4: You can fix it. You got to. Look, there are
- 19:45Speaker 4: millions of possible combinations of settings.
- 19:47Speaker 2: We might spend the rest of our lives in hyperspace
- 19:49Speaker 2: trying to find a setting that would bring us out
- 19:50Speaker 2: in regular space.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Well, don't stand there talking. Do something. Remember, Dexter, we're
- 19:54Speaker 4: in this fix because you were doing something. I couldn't
- 19:57Speaker 4: help it.
- 19:57Speaker 6: The darkness and then those flashes and the voices. Those
- 20:01Speaker 6: voices were there to wash the wall.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Voices? What voices? From the space phone. It was gibberish
- 20:06Speaker 4: and strange. Yowls. They about drove me out of my mind.
- 20:11Speaker 4: I cut them off. You think a space-a-phone would work
- 20:13Speaker 4: in hyperspace? Ordinarily, it won't. But Lexa has things so
- 20:16Speaker 4: messed up, we'll try. Open rocket. Where did that come from?
- 20:27Speaker 4: No way to tell.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Evidently, some space-a-phone signals filter through and slits like those
- 20:31Speaker 2: flashes of light.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Yeah, but from where?
- 20:33Speaker 2: That sound certainly wasn't from our solar system. I think
- 20:35Speaker 2: we're on some sort of spiral in hyperspace. We're whirling
- 20:38Speaker 2: round and Who loves that of it? There's no way
- 20:40Speaker 2: to tell what direction to go, either in time or space.
- 20:43Speaker 2: There's another signal, sir.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Expect the agreement to have a beneficial effect on world commerce.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Commander, it's English.
- 20:48Speaker 3: New York City.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Four Australian swimming champions arrived here today and.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Immediately plunged into the final phase of training for the
- 20:55Speaker 3: Olympic Games.
- 20:56Speaker 4: It's a newscast. Officials of the.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Olympic Committee are confident that world records will be broken
- 21:00Speaker 2: this year in track and field events, as well as
- 21:03Speaker 2: in other sports. That's funny.
- 21:04Speaker 4: There aren't any Olympic Games this year.
- 21:06Speaker 2: More athletes will compete in the 1972 Olympic Games than
- 21:10Speaker 2: at any similar event in history.
- 21:12Speaker 4: You say 1972? That's what it sounded like.
- 21:14Speaker 2: But I don't... I've just been handed a special bulletin.
- 21:17Speaker 2: White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico. A three-stage rocket carrying
- 21:21Speaker 2: two men.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Has landed on the moon.
- 21:24Speaker 2: A radio report from across 238,000 miles of space states
- 21:28Speaker 2: that both men are safe. There are no details at present. But, friends,
- 21:32Speaker 2: there's no doubt about it. The era of space travel
- 21:36Speaker 2: is definitely here. We'll keep you informed of further.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Hey, is that guy nuts?
- 21:40Speaker 5: Why is he so excited about a rocket reaching the
- 21:42Speaker 5: moon that's been going on for a thousand years?
- 21:43Speaker 4: Yes, he did say 1972.
- 21:44Speaker 2: And it was in October 1972 that the first man-piloted
- 21:48Speaker 2: rocket reached the moon.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Sure, everybody knows that. What kind of a newscast was that?
- 21:52Speaker 4: All ancient history. It's a wonder he didn't tell us
- 21:54Speaker 4: about Columbus. Don't you realize what happened? We picked up
- 21:56Speaker 4: a broadcast that left Earth over a thousand years ago. What?
- 22:01Speaker 4: It's our yardstick, our measuring line. Now you're finding crazy.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Let me adjust that time computer in the rocket cockpit.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Now we know our approximate position in hyperspace. We're at
- 22:10Speaker 2: the distance a radio signal would travel in. Let me see,
- 22:13Speaker 2: from 1972 to.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Now, it's 1,009 years. Corey, what are you going to do?
- 22:18Speaker 4: I'm going to reset our hyperspace vector.
- 22:20Speaker 2: If we haven't completely gummed up the works, we'll emerge
- 22:23Speaker 2: back in regular space a few light years from the
- 22:24Speaker 2: solar system.
- 22:28Speaker 4: Nothing's happening. It's not going to work. We'll be in
- 22:32Speaker 4: this crazy mixed-up space the rest of our lives. You
- 22:34Speaker 4: should kick, Dexter. You were mixed up in regular space. Commander,
- 22:38Speaker 4: you've hit it. I have. Hold on. We're coming out
- 22:41Speaker 4: of star drive. Commander, you did it. Look to the viewpoint. Stars.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Hundreds of them. We're back in regular space. Where are we?
- 23:03Speaker 4: Are we near the solar system? Let's check. There's Orion. Hercules.
- 23:09Speaker 4: And over there is Andromeda. The solar system is about
- 23:11Speaker 4: five light years in that direction. Good. Set up the computer.
- 23:14Speaker 4: It'll be fairly simple this time. Hey, Commander, I've been
- 23:16Speaker 4: thinking about that news broadcast that we picked up. Yes, that?
- 23:19Speaker 4: What about it?
- 23:20Speaker 5: That was something that happened a thousand years ago, and
- 23:22Speaker 5: yet we heard it just as though it was taking
- 23:24Speaker 5: place in the present.
- 23:24Speaker 2: That was probably a rare freak condition in hyperspace. A
- 23:27Speaker 2: leak through the space-time warp. Something we can't regulate.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Well, if it happened to an event in the past,
- 23:33Speaker 4: could it happen to a future event?
- 23:34Speaker 5: I mean, could we pick up a broadcast of next
- 23:36Speaker 5: year's news?
- 23:37Speaker 4: It's an interesting idea. Offhand, I'd say no, but there's
- 23:41Speaker 4: a lot we don't know about hyperspace. Quit the chatter
- 23:43Speaker 4: and set up the vector. It's all set. I'll cut
- 23:46Speaker 4: in the star drive. No, you don't. I'll take over
- 23:49Speaker 4: from now on. I know how to operate the star
- 23:52Speaker 4: drive now. I don't need you. You'd better think twice
- 23:55Speaker 4: next time. I know what I'm doing. I'm locking you up.
- 23:59Speaker 6: And when we're back in the solar system, I'm turning
- 24:01Speaker 6: you over to the big boss.
- 24:02Speaker 4: And who's that? You'll find out soon enough. Now get
- 24:05Speaker 4: back out. I'll let Flora knock and lock you up.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Are you sure you know how to work this star drive, Dexter?
- 24:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 6: I've been watching before he operated. I almost had it
- 24:22Speaker 6: right the first time. I'm sorry I lost my head
- 24:26Speaker 6: a while ago. I thought we were finished.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Forget it. From now on, we've got nothing to worry about. Well,
- 24:34Speaker 4: here we go into the start line. See?
- 24:53Speaker 6: There is no blacking out. In a few seconds, we'll
- 24:57Speaker 6: be back in the solar system. Say, you really have
- 25:00Speaker 6: got it down there.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Official Space Patrol bulletin from Terra Headquarters.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Excuse me, it's Cory's voice, but Cory's back in.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Attention all units to a bulletin dated October 3rd.
- 25:09Speaker 4: What's going on here today? Shut up!
- 25:10Speaker 2: Discontinue search for Star Drive test ship and the new
- 25:13Speaker 2: rocket cockpit.
- 25:14Speaker 3: The ship has been returned to Lunar Fleet Base. The thieves,
- 25:17Speaker 3: Brock Dexter and Nate Soren, were captured.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Yesterday and are being held at Terra Headquarters.
- 25:22Speaker 3: End of report.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Cory out. What does he mean we're captured? We're right
- 25:25Speaker 4: here in... Dexter, what's the matter? The cadet was right.
- 25:30Speaker 6: In hyperspace, you can pick up future broadcasts just like
- 25:33Speaker 6: you can the past.
- 25:34Speaker 4: What are you talking about? We heard what is going
- 25:37Speaker 4: to happen tomorrow. Somehow, Corey and the cadet are going
- 25:40Speaker 4: to overpower us. Not if we fix it so they can't.
- 25:43Speaker 4: Let's finish them now.
- 25:46Speaker 2: In the locked compartment, Buzz and Happy carefully place their
- 25:49Speaker 2: inflated spacesuits in a sitting position on a bunk while.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Listening intently for a sound of the door. Adjust the
- 25:54Speaker 4: helmet so the face pieces are away from the door half.
- 25:56Speaker 4: We want the suits to look occupied, at least at
- 25:58Speaker 4: first glance.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Yes, sir. Do you think Dexter will fall for that
- 26:01Speaker 2: space phone call?
- 26:02Speaker 4: I'm not sure. It'll give him a rough joke. Mr.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Wood, I heard a while ago. I think maybe I'd
- 26:06Speaker 2: believe a future broadcast myself. Patrick, I guess the wall
- 26:09Speaker 2: next to the door.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. There's the secret of your space-a-phone
- 26:19Speaker 4: call from the future, Dexter. Yeah.
- 26:23Speaker 6: They use their space-a-phone. Well, we'll just put an end
- 26:28Speaker 6: to that. Get out of that bunk, Corey. You too, Cadet.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Yeah, your little practical joke is going to prove fatal.
- 26:34Speaker 4: For you. Get sore in half. I'll handle that, Corey.
- 26:37Speaker 4: All right, then. Hold the blaster on me. I'll go
- 26:48Speaker 4: up to the cockpit to check the position. I'm not
- 26:50Speaker 4: late yet, Corey. And don't think your fake space phone
- 26:54Speaker 4: call fooled me.
- 26:55Speaker 6: I knew all the time it wasn't to broadcast from
- 26:57Speaker 6: the future.
- 26:58Speaker 4: That was no fake, Dexter.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Every word about your capture is true.
- 27:01Speaker 4: That same bulletin will be space phone tomorrow, won't it, sir? Yes, Ab.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Here's the ironic part of it, Dexter. You made it
- 27:07Speaker 2: come true by trying to make it fall. An action
- 27:14Speaker 2: preview of next week's exciting space patrol.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Adventure in just a moment.
- 27:19Speaker 5: Say, is it true that space patrollers can now get
- 27:21Speaker 5: models of the new rocket cockpit?
- 27:23Speaker 4: That's right, Hap.
- 27:24Speaker 2: We're offering every space patroller a model of our new
- 27:26Speaker 2: rocket cockpit for his very own.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Smoking rockets, Commander, that's cosmic. A model of the rocket
- 27:31Speaker 4: cockpit is so real, we use it as a trainer.
- 27:33Speaker 4: And it has so many moving parts, so many terrific controls.
- 27:36Speaker 2: It certainly is the most exciting offer we've ever made.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Space controllers, your rocket cockpit is an exact model of
- 27:42Speaker 2: the one in our brand new Star Drive ship. It
- 27:44Speaker 2: has a big moving view scope, special gravity controls, master
- 27:47Speaker 2: coder and decoder, big, powerful atomic cannons you can actually fire,
- 27:51Speaker 2: and of course, the special time drive computers that enable
- 27:54Speaker 2: you to fly through time into hyperspace.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Wait till you see it.
- 27:57Speaker 5: It's more than a foot high and almost two feet wide. Boy,
- 28:00Speaker 5: will you want to get one, and fast. Gang, here's
- 28:03Speaker 5: how to get your rocket cockpit.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Send your name and address and 25 cents in coin.
- 28:07Speaker 2: plus the wrappers from any two Nestle chocolate bars, to Nestle,
- 28:11Speaker 2: Fox 54, St.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Louis, Missouri. That's Nestle, Fox 54, St. Louis, Missouri. And now, a.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Preview of next week's exciting Space Patrol adventure. Buzz and
- 28:26Speaker 2: Happy are on Mars, searching for a special piece of
- 28:29Speaker 2: electronics equipment from another solar system.
- 28:32Speaker 4: A girl guides them to a room where two men
- 28:34Speaker 4: are carrying a heavy instrument. Just what is that instrument, Jeffers?
- 28:38Speaker 4: I don't know. An acquaintance asked us to get it.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Set it on, Gordon. Hey, look out for that chair.
- 28:44Speaker 4: How clumsy of us to smash the bits. Maybe it
- 28:47Speaker 4: can be fixed. Here, I'll help you pick up the pieces.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Don't bother. Get the girl, Gordon. I'll cover these two
- 28:55Speaker 4: with a blast gun.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Be sure to be with us next week for the
- 29:01Speaker 2: thrilling story, Message to Arctrona on Space Patrol. Space Patrol,
- 29:10Speaker 2: created by Mike Moser, starring Ed Chemeris, Commander Corey, and
- 29:12Speaker 2: Lynn Osborne as Cadet Happy, was written by Lou Houston,
- 29:15Speaker 2: produced and directed by Larry Robertson, executive producer Helen Moser.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Other players were Norman Jolly, Ken Mayer, and Bela Kovach.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Dick Tufel speaking.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Now don't forget to tune in next Saturday and every
- 29:31Speaker 2: Saturday for exciting action on Space Patrol. This week's Space
- 29:38Speaker 2: Patrol was brought to you by... Nestle's Ever Ready, the
- 29:41Speaker 2: instant cocoa. Nestle's quick for great chocolate milk and Nestle's
- 29:46Speaker 2: chocolate bars. This program is broadcast for armed forces overseas
- 29:53Speaker 2: through the worldwide facilities of the Armed Forces Radio Service.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Space Patrol came to you transcribed from Hollywood. This is
- 30:00Speaker 4: ABC Radio Network.
- 30:05Speaker 1: That was Space Patrol, the voice from the future. Thank
- 30:08Speaker 1: you for joining us for this 1954 broadcast. Follow Old
