- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota.com. Patriots Unfiltered. All right,
- 0:23Speaker 2: welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium.
- 0:28Speaker 2: It's Evan, it's Paul, it's me, it's Deuce, it's Alex
- 0:31Speaker 2: in the booth. Of course, the big news is rivalry
- 0:34Speaker 2: jerseys came out.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Beautiful.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm only kidding. The big news, I guess, is the
- 0:39Speaker 2: Patriots finally pulled off a trade for Kayshaun Booty. He's
- 0:46Speaker 2: going to the Houston, Texas, where I guess everybody from
- 0:49Speaker 2: the Patriots eventually goes at some point. And we'll get
- 0:53Speaker 2: our comments. Personally, I'm not thrilled. I have a question
- 1:00Speaker 2: for all of you when we get to it, but
- 1:02Speaker 2: let's go around what everyone thinks.
- 1:05Speaker 5: I thought this had been in the works for a while.
- 1:07Speaker 5: It seemed like this is what it was going to be.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Maybe they would get a player. They did get a player.
- 1:11Speaker 5: I think they're pretty thin at safety right now, so
- 1:13Speaker 5: it's good to add some depth. Guy in the mold,
- 1:15Speaker 5: kind of a Del Pettis. But I didn't have high
- 1:18Speaker 5: expectations for getting a huge return on him. And as
- 1:21Speaker 5: I said over the last week, the way that A.J.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Brown and Romeo Dobbs have played over the last couple weeks,
- 1:28Speaker 5: wish you the best, Kayshaun Booty. But we got two
- 1:31Speaker 5: guys now who can really play, who are going to
- 1:33Speaker 5: play a lot. And he was buried here. So I
- 1:35Speaker 5: think he's going to get an opportunity. But I'm not
- 1:37Speaker 5: all that upset about it. I'm too excited about A.J.
- 1:38Speaker 5: Brown and Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:41Speaker 6: I've already given my take on Kayshaun. I sort of
- 1:44Speaker 6: feel the way Mike does. You know, it's... About what
- 1:48Speaker 6: I expected in a trade, you know, late day three picks.
- 1:53Speaker 6: It ended up being a late day three player and
- 1:55Speaker 6: a late day three pick.
- 1:59Speaker 7: I agree with everything Mike said.
- 2:01Speaker 6: I don't see an avenue short of mass injuries that
- 2:05Speaker 6: was going to allow him to even do what he
- 2:08Speaker 6: did last year. And this is not, you know, sort
- 2:11Speaker 6: of an indictment on Keishon Booty, the player, the way
- 2:14Speaker 6: he developed, I think. coming from where he started his
- 2:18Speaker 6: career and having all these doubts about if he even
- 2:20Speaker 6: wanted to continue playing and all that, I think he's
- 2:22Speaker 6: to be commended for resurrecting what was a really tough
- 2:27Speaker 6: start to his NFL career to the point where people
- 2:30Speaker 6: are now legitimately upset and disappointed that he's no longer
- 2:34Speaker 6: a Patriot. My one criticism of the team, and it's
- 2:38Speaker 6: a very slight one, I understand why this move got made.
- 2:41Speaker 6: We've been talking about it for months, right? Just on
- 2:45Speaker 6: the very heels of you discussing your lack of depth
- 2:48Speaker 6: as a team, you trading a piece of depth, you know,
- 2:52Speaker 6: kind of runs counter.
- 2:54Speaker 2: But I don't think the depth was that wide receiver.
- 2:56Speaker 2: The lack of depth was that wide receiver.
- 2:58Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 2:58Speaker 6: But I'm saying when you talk about your lack of
- 3:00Speaker 6: depth as a team and then you trade a depth piece,
- 3:03Speaker 6: I think that that, you know, is somewhat questionable. I
- 3:06Speaker 6: would say that that's the one spot that I think
- 3:09Speaker 6: you could earn it. And listen, if this was a
- 3:11Speaker 6: perfect world, I've said this from the start as well.
- 3:14Speaker 6: You would have Keishon Booty part of your team, and
- 3:17Speaker 6: that way if something does happen to A.J. Brown or
- 3:19Speaker 6: Romeo Dobbs, you have a perfectly viable option to go to.
- 3:23Speaker 6: I would say he's a better option to go to
- 3:24Speaker 6: than Matt Collins or Kyle Williams. I would absolutely think that.
- 3:29Speaker 6: I'm with Fred on that. I think he's a better option.
- 3:31Speaker 6: But it's not a perfect world. He didn't want to
- 3:34Speaker 6: be here anymore. I don't think the Patriots saw it
- 3:37Speaker 6: avenue for him to play or resign him in the future.
- 3:41Speaker 7: I think it was kind of inevitable.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Listen.
- 3:44Speaker 2: My feelings of booty are well known on this show. Right?
- 3:47Speaker 8: Yes.
- 3:48Speaker 9: That's why I was interested in how you're going to react.
- 3:50Speaker 7: The PU flag is at half-mast today.
- 3:52Speaker 2: So call me a rube. Call me a layman. Call
- 3:55Speaker 2: me someone who doesn't know ball.
- 3:57Speaker 9: True.
- 3:58Speaker 7: But I don't call you any of those things.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I don't understand why you can't have two wide receivers
- 4:03Speaker 2: of similar skill set on the field at the same time.
- 4:07Speaker 7: What do you mean?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Well, why can't he be as much a part of
- 4:13Speaker 2: the offense as Matt Collins or Romeo Dobbs?
- 4:17Speaker 7: Well, he's not as good as Romeo Dobbs. He's better
- 4:20Speaker 7: than Matt Collins.
- 4:20Speaker 9: Yeah, but Matt Collins also knows his place. Matt Collins,
- 4:24Speaker 9: I think, feels comfortable in the role that he's in
- 4:26Speaker 9: on this team. Keyshawn Booty is in the last year
- 4:28Speaker 9: of his rookie contracts and wants to hit the market.
- 4:31Speaker 2: But why can't what Booty... Everyone said, well, you have A.J. Brown,
- 4:36Speaker 2: you can't have Booty out there. Because they're too similar.
- 4:39Speaker 7: Brown and Dobbs.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Whatever. Why can't you have two people with similar skill
- 4:44Speaker 2: sets on the field at the same time?
- 4:46Speaker 9: I guess, but like, then you have three guys. So
- 4:48Speaker 9: then he would be the third guy on the field,
- 4:51Speaker 9: I guess.
- 4:51Speaker 2: So you can't have a package for three wide receivers?
- 4:55Speaker 9: You could have had a package for it.
- 4:56Speaker 10: You can't just say what volume.
- 4:57Speaker 2: What volume are you going to play?
- 4:58Speaker 7: This is what we're getting at.
- 5:00Speaker 6: You're resigning yourself to a very specific package of plays
- 5:04Speaker 6: that might allow him to play, I don't know, 10
- 5:06Speaker 6: snaps a game?
- 5:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:08Speaker 7: That's not what he wants to do.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But maybe I to me, I just feel like you
- 5:14Speaker 2: could come up with something that would make him happy
- 5:17Speaker 2: this year.
- 5:17Speaker 9: I think you could come up with something. And I
- 5:19Speaker 9: don't know if it would have made him happy.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And and be good matches, you know, or mismatches for
- 5:25Speaker 2: other defenses, you know, like. Oh, you can't have two
- 5:29Speaker 2: 50-50 guys out there at the same time. Why not?
- 5:33Speaker 7: I don't understand. You sound like you're making a Felger argument.
- 5:36Speaker 7: Who's arguing that? All along, it's.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Like, well, you just got this guy, so you can't
- 5:42Speaker 2: use him. Why not? Why can't you use both?
- 5:45Speaker 5: Because last year, he was going to play almost every down,
- 5:48Speaker 5: and now he's going to become part of a package.
- 5:50Speaker 2: But last year, he didn't play every down. He played
- 5:52Speaker 2: a lot.
- 5:53Speaker 9: He played like 56% of the snaps. I mean, I
- 5:58Speaker 9: think the problem is 67, 67% of the snaps.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I think the.
- 6:02Speaker 9: Problem is, is like, how does he like, what's the
- 6:06Speaker 9: volume of that role that you're describing? And is that volume?
- 6:11Speaker 9: Are they on the same page? Like if he's playing
- 6:13Speaker 9: a small, I think, I think he's.
- 6:14Speaker 2: The third best receiver or was the third best receiver
- 6:18Speaker 2: on the team.
- 6:19Speaker 7: I would agree with that.
- 6:20Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 9: I think that's probably fair, but, When you talk about
- 6:24Speaker 9: the skill sets, like..
- 6:25Speaker 2: Now, here we go.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 6:27Speaker 9: Well, Fred, you have to have some sort of speed
- 6:29Speaker 9: on the field.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Proceed.
- 6:31Speaker 9: Someone's got to be able to run by somebody on
- 6:33Speaker 9: the field. If you don't have any speed element on
- 6:36Speaker 9: the team, on the field, on a play, like..
- 6:39Speaker 5: Easy to defend.
- 6:40Speaker 9: We're easy to defend again. Like, it becomes a jump
- 6:45Speaker 9: ball offense down the field and a compact offense in
- 6:48Speaker 9: other areas of the field. So, like, the reason why
- 6:51Speaker 9: Pop is playing... And Keishon booty is traded is because
- 6:54Speaker 9: pop brings a speed element to this team that Keishon
- 6:57Speaker 9: booty does same thing with Kyle Williams. Like those guys
- 7:01Speaker 9: are valuable because of their speed. Now it's not everything,
- 7:03Speaker 9: you know, speed isn't everything, but if you roll out a,
- 7:07Speaker 9: a grouping, a three receiver grouping, that's AJ Brown, Keishon booty,
- 7:11Speaker 9: Romeo Dobbs, Hunter, Henry, Ramond, Ray Stevenson, you're slow. You just,
- 7:16Speaker 9: there's not a lot of speed on that. So if
- 7:18Speaker 9: I'm a defense, I'm thinking like, okay, my safeties walk up,
- 7:24Speaker 9: walk up the safeties, sit on all the underneath routes.
- 7:27Speaker 9: If you get mossed on a 50, 50 ball, like
- 7:30Speaker 9: we'll let them live like that. Like, so you're going
- 7:32Speaker 9: to make an offense out of 50, 50 balls down
- 7:35Speaker 9: the field.
- 7:36Speaker 2: But why couldn't you have like, why can't you get
- 7:38Speaker 2: creative and have A.J. Brown, Booty, and then Douglas underneath
- 7:42Speaker 2: for a package of plays.
- 7:44Speaker 9: Well, where's Romeo Dobbs factor into that?
- 7:47Speaker 2: He sits because he's not as good as high-pointing a
- 7:50Speaker 2: downfield pass as Booty.
- 7:53Speaker 7: He's not?
- 7:53Speaker 2: No. Have you watched practice? In the red zone, he's good,
- 7:56Speaker 2: but I'm talking about deep passes. That wasn't what he
- 7:59Speaker 2: did at Green Bay. Okay.
- 8:03Speaker 7: I don't know what to tell you.
- 8:04Speaker 6: I mean, I just don't really think there's an argument
- 8:06Speaker 6: that Keishon Booty is better than Dodds.
- 8:08Speaker 2: You just said that Booty is the third best receiver.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Yeah, but there's two guys that are better than him
- 8:13Speaker 6: that you want to take one of them off the
- 8:14Speaker 6: field to do, like, just so we can get a
- 8:17Speaker 6: package of plays for Keishon Booty.
- 8:18Speaker 7: I don't really understand that. Plus, he's entering the last
- 8:21Speaker 7: year of his deal. He's going to be gone.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:23Speaker 7: So now you're just really hurting yourself for the future
- 8:26Speaker 7: as well.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Well, and is he going to be happy with it, too?
- 8:29Speaker 5: I mean, did he really request a trade? Does he
- 8:31Speaker 5: want to be here at some point during the season?
- 8:33Speaker 5: Is he going to start to be like, okay, I
- 8:34Speaker 5: know I was being a good trooper about all this, but.
- 8:37Speaker 10: Now I'm not really playing. I'm not getting the targets.
- 8:39Speaker 10: Drake has fallen in love with A.J.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Brown, and he's already got 50 catches in the first, like,
- 8:43Speaker 5: seven games. Like, you know, we've got to get this
- 8:46Speaker 5: guy happy, or is this going to derail some of
- 8:49Speaker 5: our locker room? I think he's a good player, but
- 8:52Speaker 5: I don't think he's active.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So if it's not working out by the trade deadline,
- 8:54Speaker 2: then you get rid of him.
- 8:56Speaker 10: But by that point, where are you at? What have
- 8:58Speaker 10: you gained from it?
- 8:59Speaker 2: What have we gained now? We got a seventh-round pick
- 9:01Speaker 2: and a seventh-round player.
- 9:03Speaker 10: Well, you know what?
- 9:03Speaker 2: Sixth-round player.
- 9:05Speaker 10: But I look at it from the top. What do
- 9:06Speaker 10: we get? We have A.J.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Brown and Romeo Dawes. I remember that. Well, I'm going to.
- 9:11Speaker 9: Be higher on Jalen Reed, I guess. I really like
- 9:15Speaker 9: what he can bring to the table. I think it,
- 9:17Speaker 9: you know, they really were missing like a bigger nickel
- 9:20Speaker 9: that could play that position.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:23Speaker 9: You know, they could play in the box. I can
- 9:25Speaker 9: play over the slot. I can cover tight ends that
- 9:28Speaker 9: can play the run kind of like a linebacker and
- 9:31Speaker 9: play the coverage kind of like a safety and do
- 9:34Speaker 9: that sort of thing. If you're going to play all
- 9:36Speaker 9: these offenses across the league that are going to play
- 9:39Speaker 9: multiple tight ends and they're going to put bigger people
- 9:41Speaker 9: on the field and and you're going to run three-corner
- 9:43Speaker 9: nickel with Marcus Jones in the slot, it's Kenneth Walker.
- 9:47Speaker 9: They're just going to hand the ball off and run
- 9:48Speaker 9: it down your throat.
- 9:49Speaker 2: So if you're going to sell me that what Jalen
- 9:52Speaker 2: Reed brings to the team is going to be more
- 9:55Speaker 2: valuable than what Booty could.
- 9:57Speaker 7: Have, I'll wait to see.
- 10:00Speaker 2: But that's an argument.
- 10:01Speaker 9: I'm not saying it's going to be more valuable. I
- 10:03Speaker 9: think defensively it gives them more flexibility to match some
- 10:07Speaker 9: of those groupings because everybody's going to watch the Super Bowl.
- 10:10Speaker 9: Everybody's going to see that Kenneth Walker ran all over
- 10:13Speaker 9: them out of the two tight ends, and they're going
- 10:15Speaker 9: to play better teams this year.
- 10:16Speaker 11: No, no.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Again, if you're going to tell me that the value
- 10:19Speaker 2: of Reed– will ultimately be more than the value you
- 10:23Speaker 2: would have had with booty. That's an argument to have.
- 10:26Speaker 9: I don't know if it will be more, but I,
- 10:27Speaker 9: it's just different. Like it's, he plays.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Well, obviously it's different.
- 10:31Speaker 9: Well, but like more, I, how are.
- 10:32Speaker 7: We, don't ever say that. If she asked you that,
- 10:34Speaker 7: how are.
- 10:35Speaker 9: We gauging the value? Like, you know, like, I don't know,
- 10:37Speaker 9: like he's a safety, so we're not going to be
- 10:39Speaker 9: able to sit here and say, okay, 500 yards.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Obviously value is subjective, but you know what I'm, you know, let's,
- 10:46Speaker 2: let's be right. You know, let's be honest about it. Like,
- 10:49Speaker 2: you can gauge someone's value to what he brings to
- 10:52Speaker 2: the team. What did he do to help you win games?
- 10:54Speaker 9: I think he's going to help because I, I think
- 10:56Speaker 9: they've tried in practice going all the way back to
- 10:59Speaker 9: the spring. First, it started with Mike Brown. Then the
- 11:02Speaker 9: Mike Brown thing fizzled out. Then Del Pettis got his turn.
- 11:05Speaker 9: And the Del Pettis thing, Del Pettis is a special
- 11:07Speaker 9: teams player. Like I don't think Del Pettis is a
- 11:10Speaker 9: guy that you want to build a package around on defense.
- 11:13Speaker 9: So they've tried to experimenting with the third safety thing and,
- 11:17Speaker 9: Then they tried experimenting with true base and having three
- 11:19Speaker 9: linebackers on the field. Then Chad Muma thing fizzled out.
- 11:23Speaker 9: So it was like.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So you're saying they addressed the need.
- 11:26Speaker 9: Yeah. Yes.
- 11:28Speaker 2: So there's an argument that I really didn't consider.
- 11:31Speaker 9: Now, I would just say my whole thing is theoretical.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah. The idea.
- 11:37Speaker 7: I like the, it certainly is.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I liked it.
- 11:39Speaker 9: Well, I watched the tape, Paul. So like you can.
- 11:41Speaker 7: Say it's certainly, here we go. Well, no, because I
- 11:43Speaker 7: would love to watch the tape. The guy didn't play.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Okay.
- 11:45Speaker 9: Well, he played like 170 snaps. He played two playoff
- 11:48Speaker 9: games for Houston last year.
- 11:51Speaker 7: Of his team snaps.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Well, just to him, he got hurt twice. So I
- 11:58Speaker 6: am willing to have an open mind as to what
- 12:00Speaker 6: they got. I'm just telling you, they have a lot
- 12:03Speaker 6: of people with, with Evan on this.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The ball knowers.
- 12:08Speaker 7: He's never done this.
- 12:09Speaker 6: So if this is the guy that he actually is,
- 12:12Speaker 6: every time he got targeted last year, the ball was completed.
- 12:15Speaker 9: I looked at the stats, too. I mean, you can
- 12:17Speaker 9: look at the stats, but like..
- 12:18Speaker 7: He didn't play, and when he did play, he didn't
- 12:21Speaker 7: play well.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:22Speaker 6: And he was, as part of one of the best
- 12:25Speaker 6: defenses in football, they went out of their way to
- 12:28Speaker 6: replace him in his niche role.
- 12:30Speaker 7: He was the fourth safety. He was going to get cut.
- 12:33Speaker 6: Like that's why he got traded. Now, if he's what
- 12:36Speaker 6: Evan's talking about, I absolutely see that value. I think
- 12:39Speaker 6: everything Evan said about that third and that like the
- 12:42Speaker 6: third safety as opposed to being Marcus Jones is the third.
- 12:45Speaker 6: I think there's a lot of value in that. I
- 12:47Speaker 6: absolutely agree with everything football wise. Evan just said, I
- 12:51Speaker 6: am not going to tell you that Jalen Reed can't
- 12:53Speaker 6: do those things.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 12:55Speaker 6: I'll wait and see when he comes here and how
- 12:57Speaker 6: Mike Rabel and Zach Corr use him and see if
- 13:00Speaker 6: he fits in.
- 13:00Speaker 7: I have no idea about Jalen Reed.
- 13:03Speaker 9: Fair enough. I've thought that that role is a missing
- 13:07Speaker 9: piece in their defense.
- 13:09Speaker 6: I agree.
- 13:09Speaker 9: And theoretically... He can fill that role. And I think
- 13:13Speaker 9: that his tape last year, even though limited, like I
- 13:16Speaker 9: thought that he did a better job maybe than the
- 13:19Speaker 9: stats tell you.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Was Houston not using him the way that the Patriots
- 13:23Speaker 2: might plan to use him?
- 13:24Speaker 4: No.
- 13:24Speaker 9: So Houston has Jalen Petrie, who's one of the best
- 13:26Speaker 9: nickels in football. So he was ahead of him on
- 13:29Speaker 9: the depth chart. They drafted Jalen Reed as kind of
- 13:32Speaker 9: thinking that he could be a backup to Petrie because
- 13:34Speaker 9: Petrie plays an extremely important role in their scheme. So
- 13:38Speaker 9: they ended up doing that. They drafted the kid out
- 13:41Speaker 9: of USC, also had safety. They bought it in a
- 13:44Speaker 9: free agent, Reed Blankenship. So this is a lot like
- 13:47Speaker 9: the Patriots at wide receiver had insane depth. They had
- 13:50Speaker 9: insane safety depth. And I don't, you know, what do
- 13:53Speaker 9: you have made the team? A lot of their roster projections,
- 13:56Speaker 9: we went through them on catch 22. A lot of
- 13:58Speaker 9: their beat writers thought that he was going to make
- 14:00Speaker 9: the team Jaden Reed.
- 14:02Speaker 4: So.
- 14:03Speaker 9: That's where we're at with him. Like again, it's, he's
- 14:06Speaker 9: the second year player that hasn't played a ton of
- 14:07Speaker 9: NFL football. So it's theoretical. It's a projection of the player,
- 14:11Speaker 9: what he can become. But I think the role itself is,
- 14:14Speaker 9: can be extremely valuable because this is what teams are
- 14:17Speaker 9: going to do. They're going to just put bigger people
- 14:19Speaker 9: on the field and they're going to try to bully
- 14:21Speaker 9: the Patriots. And they have to have somebody that can
- 14:24Speaker 9: play that role that can help them that.
- 14:26Speaker 5: I mean, I'm picking up everything you're putting down where
- 14:28Speaker 5: they're stuck in nickel.
- 14:29Speaker 10: And it's not only just being stuck in nickel.
- 14:31Speaker 7: I'm with the football part of it.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I'm absolutely with it.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Well, we've got to see on him. I mean, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 5: he's played in the box a little. I mean, he
- 14:36Speaker 5: played in the back a little. But, you know, I
- 14:38Speaker 5: just think they've been stuck in nickel. And not only
- 14:40Speaker 5: stuck in nickel, but stuck in nickel with Marcus Jones
- 14:43Speaker 5: as the nickel.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 10: And if he possibly becomes.
- 14:46Speaker 5: A suitable third compliment to Craig Woodson and Kevin Byard,
- 14:49Speaker 5: then I think it's a really good move. We need
- 14:51Speaker 5: to see it. We need to see them come here
- 14:53Speaker 5: in this system and do it. But everything Evan said
- 14:56Speaker 5: about how they've cycled through safeties and coming into this,
- 14:59Speaker 5: we were like, they might be stuck in nickels. Some
- 15:01Speaker 5: of this depth has to emerge. What's been the theme
- 15:03Speaker 5: of the preseason? They don't have any depth. Nobody's really emerged.
- 15:06Speaker 5: That third linebacker hasn't emerged. The third safety hasn't emerged.
- 15:10Speaker 5: even the fourth, fifth corner is still a battle to
- 15:12Speaker 5: the death. So if this is possibly an answer to
- 15:14Speaker 5: one of those questions, I like it, but we'll have
- 15:16Speaker 5: to see.
- 15:17Speaker 10: And it's going to be one of those things. We'll
- 15:18Speaker 10: wait till a game and he's going to get out there.
- 15:20Speaker 6: And I like it because I just didn't see an
- 15:22Speaker 6: avenue for booty to play. And if you can somehow
- 15:27Speaker 6: have the potential to fill a role like Mike and
- 15:30Speaker 6: Evan are just talking about, I think it's worth, you know,
- 15:33Speaker 6: rolling the dice for rather than just waiting.
- 15:35Speaker 7: It out and getting nothing at all. To me, that
- 15:37Speaker 7: at least there's a chance that you got something that
- 15:39Speaker 7: can help.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Yeah. To me, that's the most compelling argument is that
- 15:43Speaker 2: what he is projected to do this year would hold
- 15:47Speaker 2: more value and is actually more realistic than what. booty.
- 15:52Speaker 9: And it's not just this year, it's three years.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:54Speaker 9: You know, he's got three more years on his rookie contract.
- 15:56Speaker 9: So if he ends up being a player that can contribute, well,
- 16:00Speaker 9: you have them for three years now on that rookie contract.
- 16:03Speaker 9: So again, like Paul's right. He hasn't done much yet
- 16:06Speaker 9: in the league, but I think that the theoretical projection
- 16:10Speaker 9: of the player, it makes a lot of sense for
- 16:12Speaker 9: what they're missing on defense. And I just last year,
- 16:15Speaker 9: I don't think they played a lot of offenses that
- 16:17Speaker 9: could expose the some of the things that we're talking
- 16:20Speaker 9: about until they got to the super bowl and Seattle
- 16:22Speaker 9: had AJ Barner and Kenneth Walker and had that ability
- 16:24Speaker 9: to do it. we're talking about a much different schedule
- 16:28Speaker 9: this year. We're talking about a lot of teams that
- 16:30Speaker 9: have the capability of putting multiple tight ends here.
- 16:33Speaker 6: The other team that could do it was Buffalo. I
- 16:34Speaker 6: was just going to say Buffalo did it a little
- 16:36Speaker 6: bit in December.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 9: So they like, they're going to be playing more Buffalo's
- 16:41Speaker 9: and Seattle's of the world this year that are going
- 16:43Speaker 9: to be game plan oriented and are going to say, well,
- 16:46Speaker 9: Marcus Jones, 180 pounds. And he's playing at the point
- 16:49Speaker 9: of attack. Like we're just going to run the ball
- 16:51Speaker 9: at these guys.
- 16:52Speaker 2: It'd be interesting whether it's Elliot Wolf or Mike Vrabel to,
- 16:56Speaker 2: to ask them if they'd answer honestly, how much do
- 16:59Speaker 2: the big losses in a given season, you know, obviously
- 17:03Speaker 2: Seattle and Buffalo, you had a 21-point lead or something
- 17:06Speaker 2: like that, and you lost it in the second half.
- 17:08Speaker 2: How much do those losses dictate the personal moves you
- 17:12Speaker 2: make for the next season?
- 17:13Speaker 5: Well, I think with Brable earlier this summer, he rattled
- 17:17Speaker 5: off four of the losses off and said, you know,
- 17:18Speaker 5: kind of what the problem was in each of those. So,
- 17:22Speaker 5: But I love Evan's point. I throw Chicago into that
- 17:24Speaker 5: as well as a team that's going to run a
- 17:26Speaker 5: bunch of creative stuff with a lot of tight ends.
- 17:28Speaker 10: So maybe it gives them some of that flexibility. And,
- 17:31Speaker 10: you know, again, I wouldn't be done.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Like, I would continue to kind of, you know, consider
- 17:34Speaker 5: the Shaq Thompsons of the world and, you know, the
- 17:36Speaker 5: Daquan Joneses. Like, I'd keep that in the mix, too,
- 17:39Speaker 5: to solidify the defense so they're.
- 17:41Speaker 10: Not just, like, stuck with, you know.
- 17:43Speaker 2: And I love Marcus Jones.
- 17:44Speaker 5: And I think, you know, in certain situations, he's physical,
- 17:47Speaker 5: he's fast to the ball. But, you know, they have
- 17:49Speaker 5: to have some change-ups here on defense.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 17:51Speaker 4: So..
- 17:53Speaker 2: I still love Booty. Bye-bye, Booty. I wish him well.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I don't think that this kills the Patriots' chances to
- 18:00Speaker 2: be good this year in any way because I do
- 18:03Speaker 2: think they have really good depth at wide receiver. But
- 18:07Speaker 2: I wish him well, and I know wide receivers. I
- 18:10Speaker 2: think he's going to have a good career.
- 18:11Speaker 6: So the big concern would be you get into October
- 18:16Speaker 6: and all of a sudden Brown and Dobbs are hurt,
- 18:19Speaker 6: and now you've got Mack Hollins and Kyle Williams out there.
- 18:23Speaker 6: And you're like, man, I'd really love to have booty now.
- 18:26Speaker 6: I'd love me some booty, you know, instead of instead
- 18:30Speaker 6: of that.
- 18:31Speaker 5: But yeah, but that's the only thing, Paul, that like
- 18:33Speaker 5: when I'm like, well, what is the best case scenario
- 18:35Speaker 5: for Keishon booty?
- 18:36Speaker 10: It's always going to start with.
- 18:37Speaker 6: So if someone gets hurt, you know, like my my
- 18:41Speaker 6: the only thing I don't like about the trade is
- 18:43Speaker 6: that they traded them to a contender in the AFC.
- 18:46Speaker 12: Sure.
- 18:46Speaker 9: And I know that some people don't care about that.
- 18:48Speaker 9: Some people do. But if I had one nitpick about
- 18:51Speaker 9: the trade, I do not want to see Kajon Booty
- 18:53Speaker 9: in a playoff game, catch a touchdown pass against the Patriots.
- 18:57Speaker 9: I don't want to see it. Like I would have
- 18:59Speaker 9: much rather have sent him out to San Francisco or
- 19:02Speaker 9: Carolina or somewhere else.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I wonder like what the other offers were. And I
- 19:07Speaker 2: wonder if like, Maybe another team was willing to give
- 19:10Speaker 2: them a fifth-round pick, but no player. And they viewed
- 19:15Speaker 2: adding this particular player was worth taking a lower... taking
- 19:20Speaker 2: a seventh-round pick because we're getting a player of need
- 19:25Speaker 2: in an area of need.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Just as far as tilting it to the Houston offer,
- 19:31Speaker 5: I think that could be a factor because you're offering
- 19:34Speaker 5: a player that maybe we liked coming out that we
- 19:36Speaker 5: think could find a role here and actually contribute to
- 19:39Speaker 5: us rather than another team who might have been offering
- 19:41Speaker 5: another cornerback that's going to enter the mix with a
- 19:43Speaker 5: bunch of guys.
- 19:43Speaker 2: So when I initially looked at the trade, I kind
- 19:45Speaker 2: of discounted the player part of it. but you guys
- 19:49Speaker 2: have convinced me.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Me.
- 19:50Speaker 2: It's a great trade.
- 19:51Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 19:53Speaker 7: I didn't say that.
- 19:54Speaker 5: But you can see that it's not a player that's redundant,
- 19:57Speaker 5: you know, or somebody that's like, well, this guy's not
- 19:59Speaker 5: going to have a chance.
- 20:00Speaker 9: Like, yeah, he'll have a chance. I don't mean a
- 20:01Speaker 9: worst case scenario. Nickel safeties are all over the league.
- 20:05Speaker 9: He's not as good as a lot of them. And
- 20:07Speaker 9: he's not there yet. I just mentioned Petrie, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 9: his teammate on Houston. Um, you know, obviously we saw
- 20:13Speaker 9: Nick and men worry, you know, up close and personal Hamilton. Uh,
- 20:16Speaker 9: he's not Kyle Hamilton. He's not Derwin. He's not Nick
- 20:19Speaker 9: and men worry. He's not Petrie. Uh, but he's in
- 20:22Speaker 9: the mold of those types of players. And if that,
- 20:26Speaker 9: if he gets there.
- 20:27Speaker 7: I'm with you. I was more with you.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I don't know where I am, though.
- 20:30Speaker 6: No, like, I'm just looking at the paper. The player
- 20:34Speaker 6: on paper, to me, is a special teamer who might
- 20:37Speaker 6: have some upside Del Pettis. Like, he can fill in
- 20:41Speaker 6: maybe as sort of a quasi-linebacker, box-safety type guy that maybe,
- 20:47Speaker 6: if he grows into it, can build the kinds of
- 20:50Speaker 6: roles that we're talking about. I like the idea of
- 20:53Speaker 6: that player. I just don't know if he is that player.
- 20:55Speaker 13: Right.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Well, and as they say, we'll find out, you.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Know, like those guys that we're talking about, the Kyle
- 21:02Speaker 6: Hamilton's and the German James's and the Jalen Petrie.
- 21:04Speaker 9: Completely different stratosphere.
- 21:06Speaker 7: Those guys are like, like first and second round picks.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Completely not six round picks.
- 21:10Speaker 10: Defense changing.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 9: No, not even close. And I'm not trying, I'm just
- 21:14Speaker 9: trying to compare the role. Not necessarily.
- 21:16Speaker 7: No, no, I know that.
- 21:17Speaker 9: But the talent.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:19Speaker 5: But you can see how that skill set would fit
- 21:20Speaker 5: in well with Woodson and Bayard, who are both very
- 21:23Speaker 5: mobile and both, you know, very capable on the back end.
- 21:26Speaker 5: You know, it just feels like yesterday we were watching
- 21:28Speaker 5: with Pettis in there that if that happened to be
- 21:31Speaker 5: the case, and I don't know with Woodson, he was
- 21:32Speaker 5: out there, you know, in a jersey, so maybe he's close.
- 21:35Speaker 5: But I think you're going kind of to what we
- 21:37Speaker 5: talk about, more traditional, Bayard on the back end, and
- 21:39Speaker 5: you're going to put Pettis down in the box.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 5: You know, that might be what they're looking at.
- 21:43Speaker 2: All right. In other news, the Patriots have their premiere tomorrow.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Is it?
- 21:48Speaker 2: It's tonight. And we'll be announcing the Ron Burton Award.
- 21:52Speaker 2: So as soon as that's announced at the premiere, we'll
- 21:54Speaker 2: have that on Patriots.com and Patriots Social. So that's always
- 21:58Speaker 2: a great award. It's it's it's a prestigious award for
- 22:02Speaker 2: this organization. It's the person who did the most in
- 22:05Speaker 2: the community or made the most impact in the community
- 22:08Speaker 2: the prior year.
- 22:09Speaker 4: So.
- 22:10Speaker 2: We'll see who that is. Players that get it are,
- 22:14Speaker 2: you know, they really value getting that award. So it's
- 22:17Speaker 2: a big deal.
- 22:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:20Speaker 2: What else? What other news do we have? Patriots will
- 22:22Speaker 2: be traveling tomorrow to Cleveland. This is a busy day today.
- 22:24Speaker 7: I mean, we should mention that, right? I mean, Elliot
- 22:26Speaker 7: Wolfe is going to meet with the media, you know.
- 22:29Speaker 2: 145.
- 22:29Speaker 9: Are we going to take that live? The end of
- 22:32Speaker 9: our show.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Alex.
- 22:35Speaker 2: You don't know.
- 22:35Speaker 7: So we can effort that, you know, maybe.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Why don't we take 145? Why don't we take Elliot
- 22:42Speaker 2: Wolfe live when he does that?
- 22:44Speaker 5: Sounds good.
- 22:46Speaker 6: And then after practice, Ryan Cowden is going to speak
- 22:50Speaker 6: to the media. You know, we'll have access. This will
- 22:53Speaker 6: be our last full practice that we get to watch,
- 22:57Speaker 6: although I will not because I'm going to Felderman Mass, but.
- 23:00Speaker 2: That's a separate.
- 23:01Speaker 10: I'll fill you in.
- 23:01Speaker 2: He was pretty upset about it.
- 23:02Speaker 10: He was like, I can't believe I got to miss.
- 23:04Speaker 9: I want the record to show that the only one
- 23:05Speaker 9: who hasn't missed a camp practice is this guy right here.
- 23:09Speaker 9: Score one for me.
- 23:10Speaker 2: There you go.
- 23:11Speaker 6: This would be my second. Well, I'll see a little
- 23:14Speaker 6: of this one. But I did miss a walkthrough early
- 23:17Speaker 6: in camp. And among the players scheduled to meet today
- 23:22Speaker 6: is Christian Gonzalez.
- 23:25Speaker 7: He's one of the, I don't know, four or five players.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Which we should just mention, if people haven't heard, he
- 23:30Speaker 2: was back at practice.
- 23:31Speaker 7: Back at practice yesterday.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Full participant, too.
- 23:33Speaker 7: Not just back out there. He was full go. Individual periods, 7-on-7, 11-on-11.
- 23:39Speaker 2: So what does that mean? It means he's healthy. That's
- 23:43Speaker 2: all we know.
- 23:43Speaker 7: Correct.
- 23:44Speaker 2: That's all we know.
- 23:44Speaker 5: Well, it's him, Douglas Raritan. John Saunders Jr., the training
- 23:49Speaker 5: camp interception machine, and GVR, as we're calling him, Greg
- 23:52Speaker 5: Van Roten.
- 23:53Speaker 9: I like how.
- 23:54Speaker 7: You have to think about that as you say his name.
- 23:57Speaker 9: I thought Van Roten looked pretty good for a guy
- 23:59Speaker 9: that probably has been sitting on his couch and waiting
- 24:01Speaker 9: for a call the last couple of weeks. I thought
- 24:04Speaker 9: yesterday was the first time we got to see him
- 24:06Speaker 9: play in all three spots inside.
- 24:08Speaker 10: Getting him up to speed quick.
- 24:09Speaker 7: Rotating with the ones.
- 24:10Speaker 9: Yeah, some one-on-one snaps at center that I thought went
- 24:13Speaker 9: pretty well. So I was, you know, positive takeaway from him,
- 24:18Speaker 9: which they need him. They need him to be a
- 24:21Speaker 9: serviceable backup, and at least yesterday I thought that he
- 24:24Speaker 9: passed the first initial.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Why the late practice today?
- 24:28Speaker 7: Just to get ready for a late game?
- 24:30Speaker 9: For the premiere.
- 24:31Speaker 6: You don't want the players, because the players all have
- 24:33Speaker 6: to be here tonight, so you don't want them here at,
- 24:36Speaker 6: you know, Oh, 7 o'clock in the morning to 10
- 24:38Speaker 6: o'clock at night.
- 24:39Speaker 2: So they came in a little later. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 24:42Speaker 7: That would be my guess. You know, I shouldn't say
- 24:43Speaker 7: that with authority. That would be my guess.
- 24:45Speaker 9: Okay.
- 24:46Speaker 7: That would be my guess.
- 24:47Speaker 9: That seems like a good guess.
- 24:48Speaker 10: Back in my day, we had double sessions.
- 24:49Speaker 5: I mean, you're here in the morning, in the night,
- 24:50Speaker 5: it doesn't matter.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Mike Vrabel said, you know, 10 straight days of double
- 24:54Speaker 6: sessions is probably the best way to prepare a football team.
- 24:57Speaker 7: Good.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Anything else before we open it up?
- 24:59Speaker 5: I will say, Fred, you mentioned the rivalries uniforms, which
- 25:01Speaker 5: another eight came out. But Patriots is that the Patriots
- 25:05Speaker 5: announced they will be wearing their rivalries against the Bills
- 25:08Speaker 5: here at home this year.
- 25:09Speaker 2: December 6th, I believe.
- 25:11Speaker 10: Huge game.
- 25:11Speaker 9: I have a gripe about this. Why aren't the Bills
- 25:14Speaker 9: also wearing their rivalry jerseys? Because the Bills have the
- 25:18Speaker 9: iced out white rivalry jerseys. And we obviously wear the blue.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 9: So it works. I actually think it would look pretty sick.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Don't you want to wear your rivalries at home so
- 25:29Speaker 2: people can march into the pro shop and buy them?
- 25:32Speaker 2: They're here, though.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Why don't they wear their rivalries at the same time
- 25:36Speaker 5: rather than just the Patriots?
- 25:39Speaker 9: I want the Bills to wear the iced-out rivalries against
- 25:41Speaker 9: the Patriots, the Storm Blue, and we have a rivalry game,
- 25:46Speaker 9: and it's rivalry on both sides.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I don't understand. I think the idea is you wear
- 25:51Speaker 2: them at home.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 9: I don't like it. Because the Rams and the 49ers
- 25:55Speaker 9: are wearing them against each other.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Oh, are they? Yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 10: Oh, so they can do it.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Well, they're both West Coast.
- 25:59Speaker 9: Or it's Rams, Seahawks, one of those. One of the
- 26:01Speaker 9: NFC West teams are wearing them against each other.
- 26:03Speaker 5: It's weird because I don't know what the protocol is for, like,
- 26:05Speaker 5: what color scheme you're supposed to go with.
- 26:07Speaker 10: So some of them are blackout. Some of them are whiteout.
- 26:09Speaker 5: You don't know for sure if they go against each other, like,
- 26:12Speaker 5: if they would work.
- 26:13Speaker 9: But don't you think the Bills and the Patriots don't?
- 26:15Speaker 14: I do.
- 26:15Speaker 10: But, like, didn't the Dolphins kind of have a whiteout
- 26:17Speaker 10: last year?
- 26:18Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 26:19Speaker 10: No, they did blackout, didn't they?
- 26:20Speaker 7: I don't remember.
- 26:21Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Anyway, so December 6th is when the Patriots are wearing
- 26:25Speaker 2: their rivalries.
- 26:26Speaker 9: Barth very offended by the Jaguars.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Which I believe are the best.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Well, I haven't seen the new rivalries. Any good? Any
- 26:32Speaker 2: good ones?
- 26:33Speaker 5: You know, I'll speak for myself. I like the Bears
- 26:35Speaker 5: and the Packers. They did something a little bit historical
- 26:38Speaker 5: connecting to their past. The other ones didn't really move
- 26:41Speaker 5: my needle as much. But, you know, Colts had blackout again.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Or the other ones.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Jags kind of stuck with their color combination. Nothing too exciting.
- 26:51Speaker 2: The Jaguars have leopard print on their pants.
- 26:56Speaker 10: Yeah, that's bad.
- 26:57Speaker 9: And Barth was not into it.
- 26:59Speaker 5: It looks sexy in a bad way. It's like leopard
- 27:02Speaker 5: print on their pants.
- 27:03Speaker 9: They look like a..
- 27:03Speaker 2: 50 year old housewife.
- 27:08Speaker 15: It is.
- 27:09Speaker 5: But I was like, I was looking at it and
- 27:10Speaker 5: I was like staring at him like, is that like.
- 27:12Speaker 9: He made it out to be like they were wearing
- 27:13Speaker 9: like cheetah pants. And I was like, and I looked
- 27:16Speaker 9: at it and it's like, it's pretty subtle.
- 27:18Speaker 2: It is subtle.
- 27:18Speaker 10: But once you notice it, I couldn't look away.
- 27:20Speaker 5: I was like, is that like a Animal print.
- 27:22Speaker 2: All right. Okay.
- 27:27Speaker 7: I'll see these when they wear them in the games.
- 27:29Speaker 2: 855-PASS-500 is the hotline. Phones are stacked, so let's go
- 27:35Speaker 2: to Nate in Connecticut. Nate, we can hear you. All right, good.
- 27:39Speaker 7: How are you guys doing today? Good.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Great.
- 27:42Speaker 1: All right, good to hear, good to hear. So I
- 27:43Speaker 1: already called in on Catch-22 and gave my thoughts on
- 27:46Speaker 1: the booty trade. Obviously, I don't like losing a player, but...
- 27:51Speaker 1: I think this is the kind of thing that had
- 27:54Speaker 1: to happen in the crowd.
- 27:55Speaker 2: According to these guys, we also gained a player and
- 27:57Speaker 2: a very valuable one.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Stud.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 3: But shifting the focus to a different player.
- 28:03Speaker 9: I'll wear that.
- 28:03Speaker 16: I've been hearing some stuff.
- 28:05Speaker 1: That Trevion Henderson is a little banged up. I think
- 28:09Speaker 1: like a lower ankle or leg injury. What do you
- 28:11Speaker 1: guys know about that?
- 28:12Speaker 2: Okay. I don't know what I know about that, but
- 28:14Speaker 2: let me tell you something. This really pissed me off.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Certain people in the media tweeting out that there might
- 28:23Speaker 2: be something wrong with the practice field, and that's why
- 28:26Speaker 2: he slipped. Yesterday's weather, I was driving in, there was
- 28:32Speaker 2: fog everywhere. Everything was wet. So it wasn't like they
- 28:36Speaker 2: over-watered it. Everything was wet. It was really low fog,
- 28:40Speaker 2: you know, like you're driving around and you're on waves
- 28:43Speaker 2: and you get the fog warnings. That was all morning.
- 28:46Speaker 2: So I'm not surprised that the field was wet.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:49Speaker 2: And nothing to do with they're not keeping the fields right.
- 28:51Speaker 2: And that was the insinuation from certain people.
- 28:55Speaker 9: I'm not saying that they did anything wrong at all.
- 29:00Speaker 2: People insinuated that. I didn't.
- 29:02Speaker 9: We were all like, this is not.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I was scared.
- 29:05Speaker 10: Drake did a handoff.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, it's scary.
- 29:06Speaker 7: But it was an issue with the field yesterday. They're
- 29:09Speaker 7: on the offensive. It was wet.
- 29:10Speaker 9: That was a good way to put it.
- 29:11Speaker 6: I've seen the field wet many times. I don't think
- 29:15Speaker 6: it's a coincidence that they're not practicing on that field today.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and they haven't practiced on that field yet so far.
- 29:22Speaker 2: They've used that field plenty up to this point.
- 29:25Speaker 9: I think not since minicamp.
- 29:26Speaker 7: Correct. As Ramondre Stevenson said yesterday.
- 29:28Speaker 2: They let the Eagles use it, though. It was out
- 29:32Speaker 2: of the ordinary moist yesterday because of all the fog.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I'm telling you. Was it or wasn't it? I wasn't.
- 29:40Speaker 9: I didn't drive it in fog, but I believe you.
- 29:42Speaker 9: I'm not trying to make a thing out of it.
- 29:44Speaker 9: I'm just telling you what I saw.
- 29:45Speaker 7: I don't know if I'm fog. I'm just going by
- 29:47Speaker 7: what I saw at practice. Guys were having a hard time.
- 29:49Speaker 2: It was soaking wet.
- 29:51Speaker 9: To the point where I thought maybe they gave them
- 29:53Speaker 9: the wrong cleats or something like that because guys were just...
- 29:56Speaker 9: They had to move. They were doing one-on-ones. I was
- 29:58Speaker 9: watching it down on the far end, and they had
- 30:01Speaker 9: to move multiple times because guys coming off the ball
- 30:04Speaker 9: were falling flat on their face.
- 30:07Speaker 6: I mean, I've watched practices on the upper practice fields
- 30:10Speaker 6: actually in the rain. and not seeing guys slipping and
- 30:13Speaker 6: falling like that. I don't know if it was an
- 30:15Speaker 6: issue with their cleats. Maybe they had the wrong cleats on.
- 30:18Speaker 9: That's what I was thinking.
- 30:20Speaker 6: There was a difference between the upper fields and lower fields,
- 30:22Speaker 6: and they didn't adjust for that.
- 30:25Speaker 2: But there was an issue with the footing yesterday. Well,
- 30:27Speaker 2: I could see, because it didn't rain. It was just...
- 30:29Speaker 2: It was just fog and it was just moist.
- 30:31Speaker 7: And there were chunks of turf coming out.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Your car is soaking wet. Morning dew. I can see
- 30:36Speaker 2: them coming out with a certain cleat because, oh, it's
- 30:38Speaker 2: not raining. But the field was wet.
- 30:40Speaker 7: There was an issue.
- 30:41Speaker 6: I don't know what it was, but my guess is that, again,
- 30:46Speaker 6: this is another one. I'm not trying to speak from authority,
- 30:48Speaker 6: but the practices you guys said are on the upper
- 30:50Speaker 6: fields again today. Yeah.
- 30:52Speaker 4: So..
- 30:53Speaker 7: My guess is that had something.
- 30:54Speaker 2: To do with it.
- 30:55Speaker 9: It was like, okay, enough grass talk for me.
- 30:56Speaker 7: Well, just to respond to this question, though. But Travion Henderson, yeah,
- 30:58Speaker 7: go ahead.
- 30:59Speaker 5: Chris Price had, according to a league source, Travion is
- 31:01Speaker 5: getting some precautionary tests done on his right ankle, but
- 31:05Speaker 5: is walking and moving fine, described as a lower ankle
- 31:08Speaker 5: issue he sustained after slipping on the turf during practice
- 31:10Speaker 5: on Monday. So it doesn't sound like it's anything major.
- 31:12Speaker 9: Yeah, lower ankle, fine. High ankle, not good. So if
- 31:16Speaker 9: it's the lower ankle, usually those are minor issues.
- 31:19Speaker 2: By the way, speaking of Trevion, I was seeing on ESPN,
- 31:23Speaker 2: or might have been NFL Network, they had their fantasy
- 31:26Speaker 2: rankings of all the players by position. And Trevion was
- 31:31Speaker 2: ranked one slot higher than Ramondre.
- 31:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 31:35Speaker 9: These fantasy people, man.
- 31:37Speaker 2: The fantasy crowd loves them. No, they do.
- 31:39Speaker 5: But they live in a bubble, it seems like. And
- 31:41Speaker 5: it's even, like, relating to, like, the Keishon booty of
- 31:44Speaker 5: it all. It's like the people who have been at
- 31:46Speaker 5: every single training practice will tell you, exactly how Keyshawn
- 31:48Speaker 5: Booty has done, what he has been, and we'll also
- 31:51Speaker 5: tell you how much Travion Henderson has done, which, same
- 31:53Speaker 5: thing as last year, right?
- 31:54Speaker 2: They don't watch the games. They just look at stats. Oh,
- 31:58Speaker 2: we had some explosives.
- 31:59Speaker 10: It's all about Ramondre.
- 32:00Speaker 5: I would not draft Travion Henderson before Ramondre.
- 32:04Speaker 9: The Travion Henderson... Like it's almost becoming like almost unfair
- 32:09Speaker 9: to him because the fantasy people prop him up so
- 32:12Speaker 9: much as this like Jameer Gibbs, you know, type of
- 32:15Speaker 9: fantasy back that like everybody just thinks that he's going
- 32:18Speaker 9: to have like 1600 yards. And it's like we keep
- 32:21Speaker 9: telling you that this is a platoon and that he's
- 32:23Speaker 9: probably the second fiddle in the platoon and not the
- 32:25Speaker 9: lead back in the platoon. And like these fantasy people
- 32:28Speaker 9: just like don't want to hear it.
- 32:30Speaker 6: And with Henderson, I would stay with the stuff that
- 32:31Speaker 6: we talked about last year. And I think he's a
- 32:34Speaker 6: little on the smaller side. I don't think he makes
- 32:37Speaker 6: a lot of people miss. I think he invites contact.
- 32:39Speaker 6: That's the way he runs. He runs with some power
- 32:41Speaker 6: for a smaller guy. And I think when that's the case,
- 32:45Speaker 6: you want to make sure you keep his touches in check.
- 32:49Speaker 6: I don't think you want to you know, run him
- 32:51Speaker 6: 350 times between the tackles and wear him down.
- 32:54Speaker 7: I don't think his body's built for that.
- 32:55Speaker 9: It's at Ohio State, too, with Quintan Junkins coming in.
- 32:58Speaker 5: You know, and they were missing Lane Larrison and Jan
- 33:00Speaker 5: Miller yesterday at practice, so you're down to four running
- 33:02Speaker 5: backs going into this last game, which I don't expect
- 33:05Speaker 5: to see.
- 33:05Speaker 7: And then he slipped on the field and left practice.
- 33:07Speaker 5: So now, you know, I don't want to see Ramondre
- 33:09Speaker 5: on Thursday night, so are we talking about Haskins.
- 33:11Speaker 9: And Haskins about to get 25 carries in this game?
- 33:14Speaker 17: Right, right.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Good luck, kid.
- 33:16Speaker 5: Don't drop it.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Herm's in D.C. What's up, Herm?
- 33:20Speaker 18: Can't wait.
- 33:20Speaker 3: What's going on, gentlemen?
- 33:22Speaker 12: Hi.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Hi.
- 33:24Speaker 17: Um, so two quick questions and then I'm going to
- 33:27Speaker 17: shut up and let you guys do your thing.
- 33:29Speaker 19: So my first question is actually about the wrong.
- 33:32Speaker 17: Defense, right?
- 33:34Speaker 15: And, um, my question is, are we sure that we're
- 33:38Speaker 15: not going to miss Tonga? Um, I think, um, might've
- 33:43Speaker 15: been either Fred or Paul didn't seem too concerned about it.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Um, not have him talking anymore. So that's my first question.
- 33:51Speaker 19: And my second question slash comment is initially when I
- 33:56Speaker 19: saw that the, um, we trade, I was going down.
- 34:00Speaker 19: I don't think, I mean, I was, I'm fine with
- 34:02Speaker 19: him getting traded. Don't love it, but I thought the
- 34:04Speaker 19: return was a little meager, but listen to you guys,
- 34:08Speaker 19: especially to Evan at the beginning. So I guess I'm
- 34:10Speaker 19: starting to come around a little bit. Um, I'll guess
- 34:13Speaker 19: the only, my only gripe will be maybe they could
- 34:17Speaker 19: have addressed, uh, trade for like an edge guy versus
- 34:22Speaker 19: looks like it's another safety because I don't know nothing
- 34:24Speaker 19: about General Reid but those are two things I have
- 34:27Speaker 19: for you guys today. I love the show.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I'm excited to listen.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Herm, I would imagine if there was an edge of
- 34:34Speaker 2: almost equal value to Reid, I think they would have
- 34:38Speaker 2: gone the edge way but I don't think there was
- 34:41Speaker 2: one out there being offered.
- 34:42Speaker 9: Yeah, that would be my guess is they took the
- 34:44Speaker 9: best player that was being offered. But I do think
- 34:47Speaker 9: that you felt Tonga and not necessarily Tonga, but that
- 34:52Speaker 9: type of player. I still have my reservations about whether
- 34:55Speaker 9: Corey Durden is really a nose tackle. I still don't
- 34:58Speaker 9: know if that's really his best position, the best usage
- 35:02Speaker 9: of Corey Durden and that other group of Farmer and Gregory.
- 35:06Speaker 9: Those guys haven't really popped to me. I don't feel
- 35:10Speaker 9: like they..
- 35:12Speaker 2: I forget who it was. I don't know if it
- 35:13Speaker 2: was Vrabel. But somebody referred to our defense as a
- 35:18Speaker 2: base 3-4.
- 35:19Speaker 9: When they're in pure base, they are a 3-4. But
- 35:22Speaker 9: they play so much nickel that they play a lot
- 35:24Speaker 9: of 4 down front.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Most teams... Yeah. Play more nickel than not.
- 35:28Speaker 9: They they're they're in like a base in like a
- 35:31Speaker 9: true nickel. The majority of the time, like 70 percent
- 35:34Speaker 9: of the time. So in nickel, they play four down
- 35:37Speaker 9: fronts with four down defensive linemen. But if they put
- 35:41Speaker 9: base defense on the field, who is the nose? Durden.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah.
- 35:46Speaker 9: They, they're going Draymond Jones, Millen Williams, Durden, Barmore, Elijah Ponder,
- 35:51Speaker 9: whoever the other guy is. So that, that's a question mark.
- 35:53Speaker 9: And I think the Eagles kind of exposed it to
- 35:56Speaker 9: the Colts exposed it a little bit. And then the
- 35:59Speaker 9: Eagles like really opened up that can of worms. in
- 36:02Speaker 9: the joint practices last week so uh i don't know
- 36:05Speaker 9: if it necessarily had to be tonga but like somebody
- 36:08Speaker 9: in that same body type same kind of player just have.
- 36:11Speaker 5: A change up a little bit to be able to
- 36:13Speaker 5: throw some size and just to put your foot down
- 36:16Speaker 5: and say okay you're not going to run on us
- 36:17Speaker 5: anymore like we're going to go heavy we're going to
- 36:19Speaker 5: stop you from running on us go to the air.
- 36:22Speaker 9: Feels like they're going to be a boomer.
- 36:24Speaker 6: Bus run defense huh i heard you i don't know
- 36:27Speaker 6: where like Millen Williams and Barmore and those guys are
- 36:30Speaker 6: going to make plays on the other side of the
- 36:32Speaker 6: line of scrimmage. But then like when they're not making
- 36:34Speaker 6: plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage,
- 36:36Speaker 6: you worry that it's going, you know, gash the other direction.
- 36:39Speaker 9: So we'll see.
- 36:40Speaker 4: All right.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Emails are pouring in at podcast at Patriots dot com.
- 36:44Speaker 2: George says, hopefully this isn't the case, but what would
- 36:48Speaker 2: they make? What if they made this trade? Because Woodson
- 36:52Speaker 2: is a little more banged up than we know. I
- 36:54Speaker 2: think I heard Coach said yesterday that he wasn't practicing.
- 36:59Speaker 2: It's possible.
- 37:00Speaker 10: I mean, he was out there.
- 37:01Speaker 5: He had his jersey on. I don't know what that means, Paul.
- 37:03Speaker 5: I'm not concerned about him at all. Seeing him just
- 37:06Speaker 5: around is a good sign. But it would be a
- 37:09Speaker 5: major blow.
- 37:09Speaker 6: Rabel earlier in camp said when you see guys out
- 37:12Speaker 6: at practice, that's generally an indication that they're closer to returning.
- 37:16Speaker 6: That was the first practice that he's missed, and we
- 37:19Speaker 6: see him out there. Not only out there, but he's
- 37:21Speaker 6: in uniform. He wasn't in pads. And he's doing his
- 37:24Speaker 6: rehab right there in front of all the media. Again,
- 37:28Speaker 6: Mike's right. We can't rule it out because we don't
- 37:31Speaker 6: know exactly what the deal is. But I'm not overly,
- 37:34Speaker 6: I don't think this has anything to do with Craig Woodson.
- 37:36Speaker 2: I think it has something to do.
- 37:37Speaker 6: With Del Pettis and Mike Brown, as Evan talked about earlier,
- 37:41Speaker 6: and those kinds of guys.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Well, the theme of the week is depth. And this
- 37:45Speaker 2: seems like. you know, you hope so. You know, you
- 37:48Speaker 2: hope so.
- 37:48Speaker 9: And the head coach says they have no depth and
- 37:50Speaker 9: that's going to be the theme.
- 37:52Speaker 5: I just, I just don't want to see a Dell
- 37:54Speaker 5: Pettis and this new guy, Jalen, like Spider-Man memeing each other.
- 37:58Speaker 5: And like, yeah, we're both kind of like, eh, fine
- 38:00Speaker 5: box safeties. Like, you know, that then to me, it's
- 38:02Speaker 5: just kind of.
- 38:03Speaker 9: I don't know if I think he's better than Dell Pettis.
- 38:04Speaker 9: Cause I don't really think much of Dell Pettis on defense.
- 38:08Speaker 9: I think this guy can play defense. I don't, Dell
- 38:10Speaker 9: Pettis to me is, A special teams player.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Matt and Callie, Jalen Reed seems to be a player
- 38:15Speaker 2: Texans fans like. I was wondering why do we have
- 38:19Speaker 2: another safety when we could have gotten an edge from
- 38:22Speaker 2: them on their deep depth.
- 38:25Speaker 5: I think that they, unlike safety, they do have some
- 38:29Speaker 5: young players at the edge position that they're willing to
- 38:31Speaker 5: invest in and maybe try to get them to play.
- 38:33Speaker 5: Whereas at safety, I don't think you have really anybody
- 38:36Speaker 5: with potential.
- 38:37Speaker 10: You kind of know what Del Pettis is.
- 38:39Speaker 5: Is he going to suddenly make a leap and be
- 38:41Speaker 5: a defensive player?
- 38:43Speaker 10: That's maybe a stretch.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Jack and Ann Abba, Fred makes a fair point. Why
- 38:47Speaker 2: can't the Patriots have two similar receivers on the field
- 38:49Speaker 2: at the same time? Does this question suggest that perhaps
- 38:52Speaker 2: Booty was going to express dissatisfaction in the locker room
- 38:55Speaker 2: with his reduced role? Did the Patriots trade Booty to
- 38:58Speaker 2: preserve equanimity in the locker room?
- 39:01Speaker 9: I think that was a factor.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Maybe. I think it was.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe.
- 39:04Speaker 9: I think that's a factor. I think they've been really
- 39:05Speaker 9: cognizant of culture in the locker room since Frabel got here,
- 39:09Speaker 9: and they want to make sure that 100% everybody is
- 39:13Speaker 9: pulling on the rope in the same direction. And I'm
- 39:16Speaker 9: not saying that he wasn't, because I think he was
- 39:18Speaker 9: a great sport about it all summer long based off
- 39:20Speaker 9: of everything that we heard from the coaches, but that
- 39:24Speaker 9: there was a possibility that it could get contentious down
- 39:27Speaker 9: the line if he's standing there on the sidelines every Sunday.
- 39:31Speaker 9: And so I think that that was a factor.
- 39:33Speaker 6: And just to get back to the thing, Fred, that
- 39:37Speaker 6: you led with about the personnel groupings, and you're right,
- 39:40Speaker 6: like you can have, you can use different receivers and
- 39:42Speaker 6: different personnel packages, but we keep saying, why can't we
- 39:46Speaker 6: have two?
- 39:46Speaker 2: It's three.
- 39:48Speaker 7: So now you want.
- 39:50Speaker 6: To get rid of that slot option if you want
- 39:53Speaker 6: to have Dobbs, Brown, and Booty on the field together.
- 39:57Speaker 6: And that's okay. You can do whatever you want. There's
- 39:59Speaker 6: a lot of different teams that do it a lot
- 40:01Speaker 6: of different ways. I'm not telling you you couldn't do that,
- 40:04Speaker 6: but it's not just removing one guy from the offense.
- 40:08Speaker 6: And I feel, maybe I'm wrong about this, we'll see,
- 40:11Speaker 6: but I feel like Brown and Dobbs are better players
- 40:14Speaker 6: than Booty.
- 40:16Speaker 7: I think those are better options. I think they're Both
- 40:19Speaker 7: of them are more talented and more versatile.
- 40:21Speaker 9: Certainly more productive.
- 40:22Speaker 7: I mean, that's inarguable.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Nick in Ohio brings up a decent point. First of all,
- 40:29Speaker 2: thought you had a great season. Second, do we think
- 40:32Speaker 2: that Kayshaun and Drake had great chemistry and that elevated
- 40:36Speaker 2: each other because of it? I don't believe Stroud is
- 40:39Speaker 2: as accurate as May, and I wonder if it will
- 40:41Speaker 2: cause Kayshaun to have a slight decline because of that.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I still think. He's a really good wide receiver, but
- 40:46Speaker 2: I believe Drake elevated Hootie's play. I guess that's just
- 40:50Speaker 2: a wait-and-see scenario.
- 40:51Speaker 9: I think that's what you hope, though, right? And not
- 40:53Speaker 9: even just from Brown and Dobbs, but... Is Drake may
- 40:57Speaker 9: at the point where he's just going to elevate receivers
- 40:59Speaker 9: all the time. So like, he's going to make it
- 41:01Speaker 9: for everybody last year. He's going to make Matt Collins
- 41:03Speaker 9: look better than he is. And he's going to make
- 41:05Speaker 9: Kyle Williams look better than he is. So like in
- 41:08Speaker 9: that sense, it's just Kayshaun booty out in Kyle Williams.
- 41:11Speaker 2: I wonder how Kayshaun booty feels.
- 41:13Speaker 10: I don't, I don't even think of it as chemistry.
- 41:15Speaker 5: I just think that their skill sets match up really well.
- 41:17Speaker 5: I think Drake throws a great deep ball. And he's
- 41:19Speaker 5: willing to throw it up. And I think Keishon Booty's
- 41:21Speaker 5: one skill that is inarguable is that he's got good
- 41:23Speaker 5: hands and he can catch the ball down the field
- 41:24Speaker 5: tight quarters.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Ben, in California, let me rub my crystal booty. I mean, ball.
- 41:31Speaker 2: There's a lot of cloudy overthinking, but ball knowing going
- 41:35Speaker 2: on and denial coping. Yes, I see it now. January,
- 41:39Speaker 2: divisional round, Texans at Patriots. There's snow and freezing rain.
- 41:43Speaker 2: It's messy.
- 41:44Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Booty makes the clutch play that knocks us out of
- 41:47Speaker 2: the playoffs. We all sob our way through the parking
- 41:49Speaker 2: lots in bone-chilling winds. Not even a piping hot bowl
- 41:52Speaker 2: of legal seafood clam chowder can warm our souls. Will
- 41:56Speaker 2: this come back to bite us? That is the pointed
- 41:59Speaker 2: question I'd ask Wolf if I was Kraft.
- 42:02Speaker 9: How the hell do you know? That is my only
- 42:04Speaker 9: criticism of the trade. I don't love the fact that
- 42:08Speaker 9: they traded him to a contender in the AFC. That
- 42:11Speaker 9: scenario that he played out, that's in the realm of
- 42:14Speaker 9: possibility that he has a big playoff game against the Patriots.
- 42:18Speaker 2: You say it all the time.
- 42:19Speaker 7: I can't predict the future. I don't know what's going
- 42:21Speaker 7: to happen.
- 42:21Speaker 9: That's absolutely in the realm of possibility, but... But I
- 42:25Speaker 9: do believe that was the best price though. Like if
- 42:28Speaker 9: that was the best trade on the table, then most
- 42:30Speaker 9: people would say you do it anyway.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:32Speaker 6: I do believe Drake may is like the piece of
- 42:36Speaker 6: this that I couldn't do without. Like all of this,
- 42:39Speaker 6: like the chemistry with boot, like I don't think it
- 42:42Speaker 6: was the part about booty.
- 42:44Speaker 7: I think it's Drake may.
- 42:45Speaker 6: Cause there's a similar connection that he had with digs
- 42:50Speaker 6: and Hollins and Douglas. Like the efficiency numbers were through
- 42:54Speaker 6: the roof last year. throwing to everybody except for Kyle Williams.
- 42:58Speaker 6: And the only difference there, and this is not a
- 43:01Speaker 6: shot at Kyle Williams, I think he was 10 for 21.
- 43:05Speaker 6: Considering he was a spot player and only had 21
- 43:08Speaker 6: targets all year, and most of those were bombs, that's
- 43:11Speaker 6: not a bad percentage. Like, he had, like, three touchdowns
- 43:15Speaker 6: on those 21 targets. And two of them, at least
- 43:19Speaker 6: I could think of, like, the Giants and the— Ravens
- 43:23Speaker 6: were huge downfield throws. The other one was a shorter
- 43:27Speaker 6: throw that he caught and ran against Tampa.
- 43:30Speaker 7: But this is about Drake May.
- 43:33Speaker 6: Now, what I would worry about from the Patriots' side
- 43:35Speaker 6: of this, Evan and I had a little talk about
- 43:38Speaker 6: this this morning. Mike, you were a little late getting
- 43:40Speaker 6: into this. I didn't even see you this morning. I
- 43:44Speaker 6: don't know how realistic it is to expect Drake May
- 43:47Speaker 6: to complete 70-plus percent of his passes, throwing it as
- 43:50Speaker 6: far downfield as he you know, quite frequently did.
- 43:54Speaker 7: Led the league in ADOT, right? Did I use that right?
- 43:57Speaker 2: You did. ADOT.
- 43:57Speaker 9: Good job. He did that off the air, too. I
- 44:00Speaker 9: was like, whoa.
- 44:01Speaker 10: He's got the ADOT down.
- 44:02Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Ball, ball, no.
- 44:05Speaker 6: So, but in all seriousness, doesn't there, like, kind of
- 44:08Speaker 6: a regression to the mean? Like, and I know what's
- 44:12Speaker 6: going to happen. It's going to be, everybody's going to
- 44:13Speaker 6: lose their ever-loving minds because Booty's not here anymore, and
- 44:16Speaker 6: that's why it's happening. But it was unrealistic that, to
- 44:19Speaker 6: expect booty to catch every one of those one handed
- 44:22Speaker 6: contested passes this year.
- 44:24Speaker 7: If he stayed right.
- 44:26Speaker 6: Like I'm not telling you that he wouldn't have, cause
- 44:28Speaker 6: I'm not telling you he's not a good player. I
- 44:30Speaker 6: do think he's a good player, but there was like
- 44:33Speaker 6: three or four of those catches don't happen next year.
- 44:37Speaker 6: And his numbers look entirely different. And they weren't just
- 44:41Speaker 6: routine plays. That one-handed catch against.
- 44:44Speaker 7: Houston was remarkable.
- 44:46Speaker 6: There would be nothing that Keishon Booty did wrong to
- 44:49Speaker 6: not catch that.
- 44:50Speaker 9: Isn't that the biggest fear about the season as a whole? Yeah. 72% completion,
- 44:56Speaker 9: that's not going to happen again, especially against better teams.
- 45:00Speaker 6: Again, when you're throwing it that far downfield, it's probably
- 45:04Speaker 6: not going to happen again.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:06Speaker 6: Now, if you adjust and you start taking the profits,
- 45:10Speaker 6: and that's why you maintain your high completion percentage, that's different.
- 45:15Speaker 5: And maybe a little more opportunity for Kyle Williams now.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Maybe this helps his growth. This is a player that
- 45:20Speaker 5: you want long-term. You don't want him buried behind Keyshawn
- 45:23Speaker 5: Booty through this season. And I think that they bring similar...
- 45:26Speaker 5: potential to the offense. It's going to look different. I mean,
- 45:29Speaker 5: Kyle Williams might run by a guy where his booty
- 45:31Speaker 5: might catch it. I'll tell you.
- 45:33Speaker 2: One thing, Kyle Williams, if, if things don't work out
- 45:36Speaker 2: for him here, it won't be for a lack of
- 45:38Speaker 2: the team trying to get things to work out. I
- 45:41Speaker 2: agree with that. Yeah.
- 45:43Speaker 7: No, a lot of Kyle Williams support, but I'm on
- 45:45Speaker 7: the coaching staff.
- 45:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:46Speaker 10: Well, I mean, it's the flags.
- 45:47Speaker 9: He's got a trick and he's very good at it.
- 45:49Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 45:49Speaker 5: You know, it's, and that's, Can you just continue to
- 45:51Speaker 5: unlock them with more opportunity?
- 45:53Speaker 2: Sean Mack and PA just want to say to the
- 45:56Speaker 2: so-called fans, what kind of return were we expecting for Booty?
- 46:01Speaker 2: I think the Patriots will settle for a backup safety
- 46:03Speaker 2: in seventh round pick if there was some, again, the
- 46:07Speaker 2: wording here.
- 46:09Speaker 7: Why think that? Yeah.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Why would they settle for that if there was a
- 46:12Speaker 2: better offer out there?
- 46:14Speaker 6: I mean, I kind of agree with Sean there. People
- 46:15Speaker 6: are talking about edge rushers and, you know, higher. I
- 46:18Speaker 6: saw one local writer or media guy said he thought
- 46:23Speaker 6: they should have gotten a second round pick for him. Like,
- 46:25Speaker 6: do you honestly think if anybody was offering something like that,
- 46:28Speaker 6: they took a backup safety in a future seventh?
- 46:31Speaker 2: Right. Yeah.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Like.
- 46:34Speaker 2: That 2008 7th round is projected to be really good.
- 46:38Speaker 2: I agree.
- 46:38Speaker 10: I also think it's going to be New Orleans' pick.
- 46:45Speaker 7: Which, I'm making a better pick than it would have
- 46:47Speaker 7: been if it was Houston.
- 46:48Speaker 9: Maybe it'll be Julian Edelman.
- 46:50Speaker 7: Top of the seventh round.
- 46:51Speaker 10: Well, that's good.
- 46:51Speaker 5: We're not waiting until the.
- 46:52Speaker 2: End of the day.
- 46:53Speaker 9: Brady was the sixth round pick. This is only one
- 46:55Speaker 9: round late.
- 46:56Speaker 2: The 2034th round is supposed to be way up there.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Let's get it.
- 47:00Speaker 6: It's the 2028 seventh round pick, too, so it's really
- 47:03Speaker 6: like an eighth round pick.
- 47:04Speaker 9: It's really like an eighth round, yeah. I do agree
- 47:06Speaker 9: with the emailer, though. The market spoke on Keishon Booty.
- 47:10Speaker 9: He's been available for trade for two years, but also
- 47:14Speaker 9: in this offseason, probably months. And nobody was..
- 47:18Speaker 2: Teams don't know what I know. That's the problem. You
- 47:21Speaker 2: might be right.
- 47:22Speaker 6: I've been telling them, but they're not watching the show, obviously.
- 47:24Speaker 6: But the value is what people are willing to give
- 47:26Speaker 6: you for them. And the value spoke. This is not...
- 47:31Speaker 6: I think they held on to him as long as
- 47:32Speaker 6: they did because they felt like there was more value there.
- 47:36Speaker 6: But unfortunately, no one gave it to him.
- 47:38Speaker 9: It's different when it's your draft pick. He rose from
- 47:41Speaker 9: the ashes here. He developed... From a guy that was
- 47:44Speaker 9: in the doghouse his rookie year to a guy that
- 47:47Speaker 9: was a productive player on a team.
- 47:48Speaker 2: That's true.
- 47:49Speaker 9: The other 31 teams don't care about where Keishon Booty's
- 47:53Speaker 9: journey has taken him.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Well, they're probably still working off his college scouting report.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 47:58Speaker 9: That's it.
- 47:59Speaker 5: Were the fans out with the pitchforks after he didn't
- 48:01Speaker 5: get his foot in bounds that first game a couple
- 48:03Speaker 5: years ago?
- 48:03Speaker 2: Was everybody mad at him?
- 48:05Speaker 10: I feel like more mad at people for not playing him.
- 48:06Speaker 2: It was more that he was questioning it.
- 48:07Speaker 7: I think they were more mad at Bill.
- 48:09Speaker 13: Bill.
- 48:09Speaker 5: For not for making that a critical mistake yeah i.
- 48:12Speaker 9: Agree but right i think it was that was more
- 48:14Speaker 9: mac jones yeah slander than.
- 48:16Speaker 2: It was all right um lordy i gotta eat oh

- 51:04Speaker 2: How are you? Good.
- 51:07Speaker 13: Just was asking, I think, Marcus about John Saunders.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 51:11Speaker 13: He seems to find the ball, and you've talked a
- 51:14Speaker 13: lot about the importance of turnovers and finding the ball.
- 51:17Speaker 13: What have you seen from John, and how do you
- 51:20Speaker 13: guys compete put it up on the board who's got
- 51:23Speaker 13: the most turnovers in camp like what does.
- 51:24Speaker 4: That look like no john definitely has the most turnovers
- 51:27Speaker 4: this camp he's been balling out of control he has
- 51:29Speaker 4: a very like quiet confidence to him he doesn't talk
- 51:32Speaker 4: a lot um i've been trying to work on his
- 51:35Speaker 4: celebrations he does a little basketball thing which is pretty
- 51:37Speaker 4: cool but he doesn't say anything he doesn't have any
- 51:38Speaker 4: emotion when he catches interceptions uh but even in the
- 51:41Speaker 4: preseason games he's been balling out uh so it's been
- 51:44Speaker 4: really good to see him because obviously you know a
- 51:47Speaker 4: guy like him who was i think he was on
- 51:48Speaker 4: the practice squad last year here and you know, fighting
- 51:50Speaker 4: for a roster spot, taking advantage of every opportunity that
- 51:52Speaker 4: he's getting. No, it's been really good to see. I
- 51:55Speaker 4: always say taking the ball away is something that you really–
- 51:57Speaker 4: you can coach. Some guys have it, but it's something that–
- 52:02Speaker 4: let me take that back. It's something that you really
- 52:03Speaker 4: can't coach. You know what I mean? Like certain guys
- 52:05Speaker 4: have it. You can, you know, get a key here
- 52:07Speaker 4: and there by film stay and stuff like that, but
- 52:09Speaker 4: the amount that he's been able to get, that's something
- 52:13Speaker 4: that you really can't coach. He's a ball hog.
- 52:15Speaker 23: I didn't see him until he got out there. Having
- 52:19Speaker 23: Gonzo back at practice, how uplifting is that?
- 52:21Speaker 4: No, it's good. Our locker's next to each other and I,
- 52:23Speaker 4: you know, just kind of briefly see him in the
- 52:25Speaker 4: locker room. I asked him, how's he doing? And, you know,
- 52:28Speaker 4: he was like, I'm going to that. I was like, okay, yeah,
- 52:29Speaker 4: that's pretty good. No, I mean, it's always special to
- 52:32Speaker 4: have one of the better corners in this league to
- 52:35Speaker 4: have him out here with us. And obviously as we
- 52:37Speaker 4: start to ramp up, get into the season for him
- 52:39Speaker 4: to be able to go out there and then start
- 52:40Speaker 4: practicing fully, it was pretty cool. So excited about him
- 52:44Speaker 4: and being able to be healthy and be out there
- 52:45Speaker 4: and playing with us.
- 52:46Speaker 8: Being his locker mate, do you see any frustration from
- 52:49Speaker 8: him over the state of his contract negotiations?
- 52:52Speaker 4: No, I don't see it. I think he's honestly handling
- 52:55Speaker 4: it as best as I can imagine anybody in his
- 52:57Speaker 4: situation is handling it. He's still, you know, obviously having
- 53:03Speaker 4: regular conversations in the locker room. Obviously, he's spent a
- 53:05Speaker 4: lot of time in the training room trying to get
- 53:07Speaker 4: back healthy. But, no, honestly, I've been seeing him be
- 53:10Speaker 4: his normal self. We all know Gonzo's not the biggest talker. So,
- 53:13Speaker 4: you know, as we're having conversations, we're talking, but he's
- 53:15Speaker 4: not like in the locker room pouting or not being himself.
- 53:19Speaker 4: You know what I mean? So I think he's handling
- 53:21Speaker 4: it very well.
- 53:21Speaker 11: When it comes to John, what is it about his
- 53:23Speaker 11: skill set that puts him not only in position to
- 53:25Speaker 11: get all these turnovers, but actually to finish them?
- 53:26Speaker 2: Is it an intangible thing?
- 53:28Speaker 10: Is it like a traits thing?
- 53:30Speaker 4: I mean, I just think that he's very like, I
- 53:35Speaker 4: would say like, you know, you have certain guys that
- 53:38Speaker 4: they just kind of panic when the ball gets in
- 53:39Speaker 4: the air or when a certain situation. He's a good communicator.
- 53:43Speaker 4: But I think he doesn't panic when the ball's in
- 53:45Speaker 4: the air. You know what I mean? I think he just–
- 53:46Speaker 4: he does a good job when the ball's in the air.
- 53:48Speaker 4: He zeroes in on the ball and he catches every interception.
- 53:51Speaker 4: He's caught, you know, interceptions in the post. He's caught them,
- 53:54Speaker 4: you know, in zone coverage and getting pass breakups in man. So, no,
- 53:58Speaker 4: I mean, he's very– I mean, I'm almost saying it's
- 54:00Speaker 4: very unassuming. You know what I mean? Because, you know,
- 54:02Speaker 4: when you see John, he's tall, whatever it may be,
- 54:04Speaker 4: but he has great hands. He has, you know, good
- 54:07Speaker 4: ball skills. So, no, I've been really impressed with him because–
- 54:11Speaker 4: Like I say, he's very quiet, you know what I mean?
- 54:13Speaker 4: So you wouldn't see a guy like, oh, I didn't
- 54:15Speaker 4: know too much about him before I got here, but
- 54:16Speaker 4: I'm like, man, he's got like five, six interceptions, caught
- 54:18Speaker 4: one today. So, no, I'm proud of him for sure.
- 54:20Speaker 24: As someone who's been around the league for so long
- 54:23Speaker 24: and dealt with your contract situations, how much, if at all,
- 54:26Speaker 24: does that come up with Christian, given you guys are
- 54:29Speaker 24: next to each other in the locker room?
- 54:31Speaker 4: No, I mean, I think when I first got here,
- 54:34Speaker 4: like in the spring, we were just kind of having conversations. Obviously,
- 54:39Speaker 4: didn't really know or don't really know how things go
- 54:42Speaker 4: you know just using myself for example um my contract
- 54:47Speaker 4: situation had got handled like right before like our conditioning
- 54:49Speaker 4: test so he's in a whole new territory of obviously
- 54:53Speaker 4: going into the season and obviously you know when you
- 54:55Speaker 4: got contracts probably of this magnitude you know they kind
- 54:57Speaker 4: of take a little bit of time um so it's
- 55:01Speaker 4: just kind of like there's not really too much advice
- 55:03Speaker 4: you can give a guy you know i mean you
- 55:04Speaker 4: could just if he wants to talk about it you
- 55:06Speaker 4: know i'm there for him to have conversations but Noah's
- 55:08Speaker 4: kind of one of those deals where, you know, him
- 55:11Speaker 4: and his representation and the team, they're handling it their way.
- 55:14Speaker 4: But like I said before, I think he's been handling
- 55:16Speaker 4: it just as good as anybody could. You know what
- 55:18Speaker 4: I mean? Like, this is a life-changing situation for him.
- 55:21Speaker 4: You know what I mean? I get it. You know,
- 55:23Speaker 4: it's ball and all this other stuff, but it's life-changing.
- 55:27Speaker 4: I can only imagine there's probably some emotions and things
- 55:30Speaker 4: like that, but I think he's being a pro, you know,
- 55:33Speaker 4: he's being a pro about it. He's, he's still being
- 55:35Speaker 4: team first. Um, there's a lot of different situations going
- 55:38Speaker 4: on around the league and everybody has the right to
- 55:42Speaker 4: deal with their situation the way they want to. And
- 55:44Speaker 4: I don't think it's like a, Oh, he's wrong for
- 55:46Speaker 4: doing it this way, or he's right for doing it
- 55:48Speaker 4: this way is really just individually depending on the player
- 55:50Speaker 4: and the team and their representation. So, um, and I've
- 55:53Speaker 4: seen it all the different situations. I just think for him, um,
- 55:57Speaker 4: It just speaks to who he is and his character,
- 55:59Speaker 4: just the simple fact that he wants to be out
- 56:01Speaker 4: there and practice and be with the team, regardless if
- 56:03Speaker 4: it goes down or not. I think that's pretty– just
- 56:06Speaker 4: in my opinion, I think that's pretty cool. It's pretty neat.
- 56:08Speaker 6: Kevin, obviously you've had more turnovers this summer in training camp,
- 56:11Speaker 6: or is that something that you can just click during
- 56:13Speaker 6: the regular season for you?
- 56:14Speaker 4: No, I mean, I definitely want to get more turnovers.
- 56:16Speaker 4: I think– you know, I want to get a turnover
- 56:18Speaker 4: every day, honestly. But I will say I've had training
- 56:23Speaker 4: camps where I've gotten a lot of turnovers and then
- 56:24Speaker 4: getting to the season I had one interception. Then, like,
- 56:27Speaker 4: last year in Chicago, I may have had– I think
- 56:29Speaker 4: I had two interceptions. And it was both during the
- 56:32Speaker 4: joint practices. And then I led the league in picks.
- 56:34Speaker 4: So I feel like it's one of those deals for me.
- 56:36Speaker 4: I'm just always focused on the process. It's not necessarily
- 56:38Speaker 4: more about the result, especially now coming into, like, a
- 56:42Speaker 4: new scheme a little bit. This defense is very particular
- 56:46Speaker 4: depending on situations, third down, different stuff like that. So me, honestly,
- 56:50Speaker 4: trying to see what I can get away with sometimes.
- 56:51Speaker 4: And then, you know, as you get to the game,
- 56:53Speaker 4: situations are a little bit different. The quarterback's clock's a
- 56:55Speaker 4: little bit more sped up. A lot of plays are sacks.
- 56:57Speaker 4: They're more happening. So it's a little bit different. But, no,
- 57:01Speaker 4: I mean, to your point, I definitely want to get interceptions.
- 57:04Speaker 4: I want to get turnovers. But at the end of
- 57:05Speaker 4: the day, I'd rather get them in games than get
- 57:08Speaker 4: all my interceptions in practice. But, no, I mean, definitely
- 57:12Speaker 4: something I want to do. But at the end of
- 57:13Speaker 4: the day, I'm still confident in my abilities. And knowing
- 57:16Speaker 4: this defense, I'll be able to pick my spots and
- 57:18Speaker 4: get my turnovers during the season.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Kevin, obviously you weren't with the team last year.
- 57:23Speaker 8: So, as someone coming in from the outside, what's been
- 57:25Speaker 8: your impression of the way this organization has tried to
- 57:28Speaker 8: pick itself up and move on from losing to Super Bowl?
- 57:33Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if they were– I haven't sensed, like,
- 57:35Speaker 4: the whole pick themselves up situation. I don't think anybody's,
- 57:39Speaker 4: at least since I've been here, feeling sad or that
- 57:42Speaker 4: they lost. Obviously, it's disappointing, but I've always been under
- 57:47Speaker 4: the belief that at the end of the day, like,
- 57:48Speaker 4: no matter– what success you had the previous year, like
- 57:52Speaker 4: you got to start all over. You know what I mean?
- 57:53Speaker 4: Like you got to build a foundation back up. You
- 57:55Speaker 4: don't really create or keep any momentum from the previous year.
- 57:58Speaker 4: It's a whole new locker room. It's new guys on
- 58:02Speaker 4: the team. We got to build our own culture, our
- 58:04Speaker 4: own chemistry. And so we're still in the foundation building process.
- 58:08Speaker 4: You know what I mean? Like I think that's been
- 58:11Speaker 4: the special part about it, that we're just more focused
- 58:12Speaker 4: on this team today. And I understand that. there's always
- 58:16Speaker 4: going to be that comparison from last year and like, oh,
- 58:18Speaker 4: you won this year. So the expectation is automatically here
- 58:21Speaker 4: that you got to win a Super Bowl guaranteed. It's
- 58:23Speaker 4: like the expectations need to be tapered, just in my opinion.
- 58:27Speaker 4: It's not just because of what's been going on during
- 58:29Speaker 4: training camp. I just kind of understand that it's very
- 58:32Speaker 4: challenging to be able to get back there. And so
- 58:34Speaker 4: I think if anybody is leaning on the fact that
- 58:37Speaker 4: we was there last year, that means we should get there. No,
- 58:39Speaker 4: that's not how it works. Like we got to continue
- 58:40Speaker 4: to put in the work and not worry about what
- 58:42Speaker 4: happened last year. Just focus on now, focus on the day.
- 58:45Speaker 4: And I think that's when we've been more focused on versus,
- 58:47Speaker 4: you know, this team from last year and how they
- 58:50Speaker 4: played and the type of group that they had. And
- 58:52Speaker 4: we're not trying to recreate that magic or nothing like that.
- 58:54Speaker 4: This is a whole new situation with new guys, and
- 58:56Speaker 4: we're going to have to win a different way than
- 58:58Speaker 4: probably they won last year. So I think that's what
- 59:00Speaker 4: we've been more focused on.
- 59:02Speaker 2: Mike had said that the Stars may not play Thursday.
- 59:06Speaker 23: Are you okay with that as a starter, just what
- 59:09Speaker 23: you get out of it?
- 59:10Speaker 4: Practices? Yeah, I'm okay with whatever the head coach wants
- 59:12Speaker 4: to do. I mean, I've had training camps where I
- 59:16Speaker 4: played in every preseason game. I've had some where I
- 59:18Speaker 4: played in two, played in one. I've had some where
- 59:20Speaker 4: I played with none with Mike. So, you know, every
- 59:22Speaker 4: year is different. You know what I mean? Like if
- 59:24Speaker 4: coach choose to play us for a whole half, then
- 59:27Speaker 4: I'm with it. You know what I mean? Like you
- 59:28Speaker 4: kind of have to pair in that way. As a veteran,
- 59:32Speaker 4: you know, sometimes you want to kind of go in
- 59:34Speaker 4: there and get a little contact, you know what I mean?
- 59:36Speaker 4: But I'd rather save my body, you know what I mean? Like,
- 59:39Speaker 4: I feel like it's really, I mean, I'm a player,
- 59:41Speaker 4: you know what I mean? At the end of the day,
- 59:42Speaker 4: if it's green grass and it's white lines out there,
- 59:44Speaker 4: let's go out there and ball, you know what I mean? Like,
- 59:46Speaker 4: I don't care if it's three players or if it's.
- 59:47Speaker 4: 30 plays. I'm going to go out and try to
- 59:49Speaker 4: play my hardest. But at the end of the day,
- 59:50Speaker 4: that's just what pros are. You know what I mean?
- 59:52Speaker 4: You get no preseason, so what? Go out there. You're
- 59:54Speaker 4: still expected to make every tackle, make every play. That's
- 59:57Speaker 4: just kind of the game that we signed up for,
- 59:58Speaker 4: and we're going to be judged accordingly. So, nah, like
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: I said, however the coach feels about, you know, us
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: playing every game, that's kind of where I'm at with
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: it as well.
- 1:00:07Speaker 18: Yeah, of course.
- 1:00:07Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: It's Legal Seafood's Fresh Take of the Week. Da-na, da-na, da-na.
- 1:00:14Speaker 10: Mmm, yummy.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: Mmm.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: That was pretty good.
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: I don't even know how to respond to that.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: But I'm going to give you a fresh take anyway.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Here it comes.
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: You know, for our pals at Legal Seafoods.
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: I just got a feeling, and this is one, and
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: I just want to state up front, this is not
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: any inside information. I'm just going off of what I'm seeing.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: I think Christian Gonzalez is close. The signing is close.
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: He comes back to practice on Monday. He's pretty much
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: a full participant, so we know he's healthy, right, because
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: he was out there doing 11-on-11 stuff. He's scheduled to
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: talk later today. We're going to hear from Elliot Wolfe
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: and Ryan Cowden. Fred, what did you call yourself earlier?
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: A Rube?
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a Rube.
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: Call me a Rube. I'm going to fall for this one.
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: I think Gonzalez is close.
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: That's certainly a fresh take.
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: It's a good take.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: It's certainly fresh.
- 1:01:05Speaker 10: It could be so fresh in maybe 44 minutes.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: That's a lobster roll and clam chowder take right there.
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: I'll take it.
- 1:01:14Speaker 10: Fingers crossed.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: I'll take your word for it.
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: It'd be great to cross that off the list right
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: now and get into the season, you know, regular season,
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: not have to think about Gonzalez booty. Uh, we're still
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: working on K back. It's a little bit, but those
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: three questions have at least been answered.
- 1:01:28Speaker 9: All the, all the business would be done and we
- 1:01:30Speaker 9: can just focus on the Seattle Seahawks and football.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: So I know you guys are up in the press
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: box during the game. I'm working during the, but you
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: had a shit. Did you get any feedback from the
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: press core on, The clam chowder. Oh, it's a rave reviews.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: And they finally realized that they weren't eating legal seafood
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: up until this year.
- 1:01:50Speaker 9: Well, we got a little gift, too, from our friends.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: At Legal Seafoods.
- 1:01:54Speaker 9: Which I already used.
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: Literally, we got it Saturday night, and we went right
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: to Legal Seafoods the next day.
- 1:02:00Speaker 9: Oh, sorry, Paul was in the Bob's Disco Furniture studio.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: So he didn't get it.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: Stacey's handing out gift cards to everybody at Legal Seafoods.
- 1:02:07Speaker 9: Santa Stacey came around.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: And not just like six bucks, like $ 50 gift cards.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Stacey's.
- 1:02:11Speaker 10: So, uh, great.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: Okay. It's the same. We weren't sure.
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: It doesn't really matter that I wasn't there. I wouldn't
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: have gotten one anyway.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: We never weren't sure.
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: We're like, I don't know.
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: We saw him going around and even when he came up,
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: there were like a couple left, but we got in and, uh, yeah, we,
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: the next day went to legal seafood, had a wonderful lunch, uh,
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: as always.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: So it was great.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: But also a great display for it. I'd say the
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: clam chowder. Now we've, And lobster bisque.
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: You remind me of Elaine Bennis every time you say,
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: I had the bisque.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I did have the bisque.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: I'm going to work it into the lineup this year,
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: I think. You know, halftime chowder. So if I gain
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: a few LBs, that's why.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: But it'll be worth it.
- 1:02:46Speaker 9: As soon as Stacey came around with our gift, I
- 1:02:49Speaker 9: texted Jess right away. And she was like, I'll look
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: at the menu.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: Great.
- 1:02:54Speaker 9: So that was very nice.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Thank you, Legals. Yeah, thank you. All right. Let's get
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: back to it here on Patriots Unfiltered, 855-PASS-500. And the
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: email is podcast at patriots.com. Just a reminder, at 1345,
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: we'll be doing live Elliot Wolfe. Military time.
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: I think it's, I don't know. 1345 is how you
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: just called it.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Tomorrow at 0840. Speaking of the military, Matthew at Fort
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Leonard Wood in Missouri. I don't usually call or email in,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: but I did call a few weeks ago during one
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: of the training camp shows. I was on hold for
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: 30 minutes. Then Fred just ended the show without clearing
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: the phone lines. Figured I'd email this time. I graduated
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: from Air Force basic training about a month ago.
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: Oh, congrats.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: Basic training was the first time I had missed an
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: episode of the show in 10 years. I'm still working
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: on getting caught up. I have two quick comments, then
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: a request. First, I'm excited for A.J. Brown, and I'm
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: optimistic that he's going to take this offense to another level.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: This happened while at training, so I had to wait
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: for my parents to send me a letter to confirm
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: the trade went through. Second, I need to give Fred
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: his flowers. You'll never guess what brand of washer-dryer they
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: had at training and at my tech school. Yep, both
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: the Air Force and Army trust Speed Queen. As soon
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: as I saw that, I just had to let Fred know.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:04:15Speaker 10: You know, you know.
- 1:04:15Speaker 7: But that makes sense to me.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: And you're doing mass.
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: Reliable.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: You need something reliable.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: That doesn't break down. Yeah.
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: That makes total sense to me.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Lastly, my request. How can I get one of those T-shirts?
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Do I need to send a game for Paul and
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: stump the grump? Or does being a loyal listener for
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: a decade suffice? Thanks for everything you do. And I
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: look forward to another great seat. Let's get the man
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: a T-shirt, Alex. His email, Matthew. So you can ask
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: for his size and address and we'll get you a t-shirt, Matthew.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: So that was a good email because you mentioned Speed Queen.
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: Sorry for leaving you on hold.
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: Forever.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Spee and Fresno. Have we heard from him in a while?
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:05:01Speaker 9: Keyshawn Booty Trade is now official, by the way.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 1:05:04Speaker 9: So we don't have to say reportedly a hundred times.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Do you think there's any false confidence stemming from a
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: Super Bowl run on the heels of a soft schedule,
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: or is confidence in this team justified by the roster
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: moves and progress in the Vrabel era thus far?
- 1:05:21Speaker 10: Confidence? It's important to have when you're on.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: Sorry, what are we doing, Reed? Listen, Bridgestone Tires.
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: I think it's justified.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: All right, let's do it.
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: It's important to have confidence when you're on the road
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: with Bridgestone Tires on your car, truck, SUV, or minivan
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: you're riding on tires you can trust. Bridgestone Tires are
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: engineered to give you peace of mind so you can
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: focus on enjoying the journey. So whether you're on your
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: morning commute, a cross-country road trip, or a relaxing Sunday drive,
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: Bridgestone Tires will be with you wherever life's roads may lead. Bridgestone,
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: solutions for your journey, available now at Sullivan Tire.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: Definitely a professional segue there.
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: There we go.
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: Well, I couldn't help it.
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: Chris is thrilled.
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: Do you ever notice every time Mike says tire, he
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: says it like he's in the NASCAR business?
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Tires. Tires. Tires. He also has, over time, I'm sure...
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: you know, incorporated a lot of a Canadian accent. Oh, yeah.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: You know, you do. You have some.
- 1:06:11Speaker 9: Are you a Hendrix Motorsports guy?
- 1:06:12Speaker 10: What's that, eh?
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: So you're like a chameleon. I love it. I speak Canadian.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I tend to do that, too. If I'm around somebody
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: that talks a certain way, I start to.
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, eh?
- 1:06:22Speaker 10: No, I spent some time in Canada. They definitely like
- 1:06:23Speaker 10: the A's.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: TJ's definitely getting a little drawl.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: You know, who was it?
- 1:06:27Speaker 10: Was it Gabe Ackes? Gabe Ackes was talking. He's talking
- 1:06:30Speaker 10: about the organization.
- 1:06:31Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: I was like. K-Back has got a little Canadian in.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Him, I guess.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: House.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: The Oregon House.
- 1:06:36Speaker 9: Illinois, maybe.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I've never heard it. All right. Let's
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: get back to the hotline. Anthony is in Seattle. What's up, Anthony?
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: Hey, Fred, Paul, Evan, Deuce. How are my guys doing?
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: What's up? We're doing good.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: Good, good.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: Hey, today I'm Anthony in San Francisco.
- 1:06:57Speaker 20: Oh, all right.
- 1:06:57Speaker 9: Hey, we were there.
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: I'm going to try not to get injured while I'm
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: out here.
- 1:07:01Speaker 17: Good.
- 1:07:01Speaker 14: Hey, um..
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: So I wanted to call in just real quick. There's
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: another Anthony who's been emailing in really frequently, and I
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: figure you guys probably know it's not me because I
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: always make it a point to say Anthony in Seattle.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: But I was listening to Catch-22 last week, and Evan,
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: you know, he goes, oh, I got an email from
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Anthony in Seattle, and I'm thinking, oh, maybe it's one
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: of my old ones that didn't get read. But no,
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: it was somebody else, and they were praising Barth for
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: his punter hang time.
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: Uh, takes.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: And so, uh, Hey, as much as I love Alex Barth, um,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: I don't particularly care about the punch.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Or hang time. I would agree.
- 1:07:37Speaker 10: Love bar.
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: Um, Hey, uh, speaking of Alex, though, another Alex, I just, I, she, uh,
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: so when I was at the, um, joint practice, my
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: wife and I was there on, uh, on Wednesday and, uh,
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: She came out and found us, and wow, she just
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: was so gracious with her time. She talked with us for,
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: I'd say, like 45 minutes. I was surprised. I kept
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: waiting for the Christian, all right, guys, but never came.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: There was no signs of her needing to move on
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: to the next thing. I mean, she was really awesome,
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: and I just wanted to give her some public praise
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: and thanks for that. The last thing is I never
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: got my PU shirt, so still looking for that.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Uh-oh, uh-oh. Did you take a picture with Alex?
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I did, I did.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: All right, send it in. We'll put it in the newsletter. Nice.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: I'll send it to you guys, and I'll email it
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: to the show right now.
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: Sorry, Anthony, we couldn't get out there. She tried to
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: get us out there, too, and we were busy doing
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: our wrap-ups and our ratings.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: And our videos and stuff.
- 1:08:29Speaker 7: Yeah, we were actually on the air, and now that
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: Alex doesn't come on the air anymore, I don't know
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: where she is. She obviously had 45 minutes.
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: She's had a lot of different stories and community-related things.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: And Michael.
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: Got one up on Aunt Michael. The girl's been turning
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: out content left.
- 1:08:45Speaker 10: And right, so yeah.
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: Great stories from Cam.
- 1:08:48Speaker 9: We were talking about on Catch-22, we were talking about
- 1:08:50Speaker 9: positions where they have depth and don't have depth, obviously
- 1:08:53Speaker 9: going off of Rabel's comments the other day. And I
- 1:08:56Speaker 9: jokingly brought up Punter because they now have three. If
- 1:08:59Speaker 9: you count Baron Morton, they have three punters. And so
- 1:09:02Speaker 9: I was trying to like give Barth like time to,
- 1:09:05Speaker 9: you know, flex his punter muscles. And he goes with
- 1:09:08Speaker 9: Baron Morton, totally serious. Could have been better.
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: So I was on Sunday, right? So Alex was on
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: the Sports Hub Sunday with Andy Hart. So Andy had
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: asked me.
- 1:09:20Speaker 9: Sunday kickoff.
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: You know, if I had minded, you know, doing a
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: quick phone hit. So, you know, I go on and
- 1:09:25Speaker 6: we were, you know, laughing about Baron Morton. And I
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: kind of indicated that the original thing, you know, stuff
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: that we talked about the postgame show didn't really pass
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: my sniff test. And then I was like, you know,
- 1:09:36Speaker 6: and I'm sure Barth has the hang times for Morton's punts.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: He rattled him off.
- 1:09:42Speaker 7: He rattled him off. And I was like, you need help.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: You absolutely need help.
- 1:09:46Speaker 9: He said that it could have been better. And I
- 1:09:48Speaker 9: was like, come on.
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: That's how we ended. I go, yeah, we got to
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: work on that plus 50 punting, Alex.
- 1:09:53Speaker 9: And then he said that Vrabel said the same thing.
- 1:09:55Speaker 9: I was like, yeah, Vrabel was busting balls. He obviously
- 1:09:58Speaker 9: knows he put the kid in a tough spot.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: Poor Barthy.
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: That Sunday kickoff this year, though, is at Barth and Andy.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: Really?
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:06Speaker 9: They do a Sunday kickoff show on the sports sub
- 1:10:09Speaker 9: that's the pre-pre-game show.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: It's like four in the morning?
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: No, it's usually eight. I think it's eight to ten.
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: Eight to ten, and then the pre-game show starts.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: They're going to try to get you on that, too?
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: No, I'm on the real pre-game show.
- 1:10:20Speaker 9: No, I'm on the pre-pre-game show.
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: Oh, you're on pre-pre.
- 1:10:23Speaker 9: And he rotates the call-in.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: How many pre-game shows do they have?
- 1:10:27Speaker 10: Pre, the pre-pre.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: No, it is the flagship station. Why don't they just
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: have one show?
- 1:10:30Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:10:30Speaker 9: They have Sunday kickoff with Alex Barth and Andy Hart.
- 1:10:33Speaker 7: They have to fill the whole day.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: I know, but just rotate, just bring in, okay, we're
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: going to bring in now the new host.
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: It's funny, like, the whole incestuousness of, like, our group,
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: it continues. Like, you and Andy were together forever, and
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: I did a bunch of stuff with Fitzy.
- 1:10:46Speaker 10: Then we kind of swapped partners. Now, Evan, now Barth's
- 1:10:51Speaker 10: going with Andy.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: It's always, this is weird. We're doing the post-game show.
- 1:10:56Speaker 9: I think Don Darrow and Joe Murray are still doing that.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: That's a tough listen.
- 1:10:59Speaker 9: Uh, I think. I don't know for sure because Barth
- 1:11:03Speaker 9: comes to the games and he covers the games for them.
- 1:11:06Speaker 9: But yeah, he does Sunday kickoff and he said it today.
- 1:11:09Speaker 9: I guess that's now official that it's going to be
- 1:11:10Speaker 9: him and Andy.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: That Dundary is a little pitbull.
- 1:11:13Speaker 10: I feel like Andy's going to..
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: He just latches on to something. He doesn't let go.
- 1:11:16Speaker 10: Do you think Andy's going to needle Barth a little
- 1:11:18Speaker 10: bit on that show?
- 1:11:20Speaker 9: Maybe a little bit.
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: I'll tell you what he doesn't latch on to is
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: reality in any way.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: Let's see. Eric in Rochester, New York. I like Booty
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: as much as the next guy, but I don't fully
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: understand why so many fans are this upset over the
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: Booty trade, beside the fact that he is one W-A-R.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: They actually, some, I guess, wide receiver. Come on, guys. Proofread.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Over his career in New England, he has less than
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: 80 catches and 1,200 yards total. I get he came
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: up with some big plays. But can't that production be
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: filled by somebody else? During his three games he missed
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: last year, it's not exactly like the team's offensive production
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: went down.
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: If Romeo Dobbs doesn't, at the very minimum, double that production,
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: I'd be very surprised.
- 1:12:11Speaker 10: Last time you saw, a lot of fans saw Booty.
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: He was making great catches in the playoffs and contributing
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: to that playoff run.
- 1:12:17Speaker 10: But just take it from us. If you're sitting out
- 1:12:19Speaker 10: there watching A.J.
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: Brown and Romeo Dobbs in this offense now, you're kind
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: of like, yeah, Keishon Booty.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: I was thinking about it, though, not to beat a
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: dead horse, but A.J. Brown aside, if it's a big time,
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: a big play needed in a big game, I don't
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: think there's anyone else who was currently on this team
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: I'd want to throw it to other than Booty.
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: Well, I think Romeo Dobbs is developing the trust. The
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: last couple of weeks.
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: That includes Hollins. Anyone that was on the team.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: I just felt like last year when they threw the
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: ball to all the receivers, all the receivers caught it.
- 1:12:54Speaker 7: Except for Kyle Williams.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: But I qualified that in a big play needed in
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: a big game. Crunch time. Yeah.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: I mean, he had a big, you know, he had
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: the big one in Houston.
- 1:13:02Speaker 7: He had a good catch against Seattle.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: 33 passes.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:06Speaker 9: Like the big one in Houston. True.
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:09Speaker 9: Pop Douglas also caught a fourth down play on Houston.
- 1:13:11Speaker 7: Which I've pointed out many times, and I'll do it
- 1:13:14Speaker 7: again in about two hours.
- 1:13:15Speaker 9: Kyle Williams caught the one in Baltimore, which is one
- 1:13:18Speaker 9: of the best plays of the season.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Everybody has caught some passes. But the efficiency numbers. Do
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: you agree with me?
- 1:13:24Speaker 7: No, I don't.
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: I'm saying the efficiency numbers for Drake May last year
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: were through the roof, regardless of who he targeted. I
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: didn't feel any better when he threw the ball to
- 1:13:32Speaker 6: Booty than I did when he threw it to Diggs.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: You're in the huddle with last year's wide receiver lineup.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: All of a sudden, Diggs is hurt. Who are you
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: going to fourth quarter? You need that touchdown.
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: Last year?
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:48Speaker 7: Booty would have been two.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:13:50Speaker 6: That's what he was. He was the second receiver last year.
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. No, you said right now. But
- 1:13:57Speaker 6: now they have a different cast.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: So now I think in that situation, because I don't
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: know what Dobbs would do in that situation. I think
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Great playoff game against Chicago. I think he still might
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: be two. In crunch time, you've got to have it.
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: I think Dobbs is a better player. I think Brown's
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: a better player. And this might be a projection, but
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: I think Douglas is a better player now. Maybe he
- 1:14:21Speaker 6: wasn't last year. They were the same last year. I
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: think Douglas has made a leap forward.
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that. I mean, I just think it's
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: too sporadic from booty that you can't count on it. Like,
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: you know, it's nice to chuck it up there. But
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: these are I mean, what is.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Always what else?
- 1:14:33Speaker 9: Like for him to have a higher volume, he had
- 1:14:36Speaker 9: to develop more routes on his more branches on the tree,
- 1:14:40Speaker 9: so to speak. Like he had one really good specialty,
- 1:14:43Speaker 9: has one really good specialty. I feel the same way
- 1:14:45Speaker 9: about Kyle Williams. Like I know Kyle Williams can run
- 1:14:47Speaker 9: a go route. I don't know if he can run
- 1:14:49Speaker 9: anything else. And I think that's the big question with him.
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: It was the same question with booty. Like, how do
- 1:14:54Speaker 9: you go from 33 catches to 60 is by diversifying
- 1:14:59Speaker 9: your repertoire, you know, having other routes, all three levels,
- 1:15:02Speaker 9: you know, things like that. So far, at least booty's
- 1:15:05Speaker 9: only shown that he is really good at one thing.
- 1:15:08Speaker 9: That's a good thing to be good at though.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Allen, Wisconsin, I don't think you need to worry about
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Booty catching a touchdown on us in the playoffs. He
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: might be a good player, but Stroud is still throwing
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: the ball.
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: I hope Gonzo and Davis would know what he can
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: do and prevent that. I'm curious, Paul, taking out that
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: you knew it was the right move, how did you
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: feel about Drew going to the Buffalo Bills?
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: Oh, that was like someone gave him the first-round pick.
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: I didn't have any issues with that at all. I
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: think you go where you get the best... Now, you
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: can make an argument for this one. If you weren't
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: going to get anything for him, then you can find
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: someone to give you a seventh-round pick and a sixth-round pick.
- 1:15:50Speaker 6: But that's Evan's point about Houston. I'm not a big
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: believer in that kind of a fear factor. I feel
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: like I would keep the guy if I really thought
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: he was going to be the difference between me advancing
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: or not.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Let's go to Chucky in Wisconsin. What's up, Chucky? Chucky.
- 1:16:10Speaker 17: Hey, guys, how are you doing?
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: Good.
- 1:16:13Speaker 17: Hey, Fred, great news. One of my family members just
- 1:16:16Speaker 17: got a job at Speed Queen.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: This is unbelievable. So where are their corporate headquarters?
- 1:16:23Speaker 17: I don't know about corporate, but they're in Ripon, Wisconsin.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: Okay. All right.
- 1:16:29Speaker 10: They have a friends and family discount, maybe?
- 1:16:31Speaker 17: Might be 800 to 1,000 employees there.
- 1:16:33Speaker 20: Nice.
- 1:16:34Speaker 10: They do great work.
- 1:16:35Speaker 17: Yeah, last great American company.
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: Yeah, so..
- 1:16:40Speaker 17: Hey guys, uh, just my two cents on this whole, uh,
- 1:16:44Speaker 17: patient booty trade, right? Uh, first totally respecting what Keishon
- 1:16:48Speaker 17: did for the team and that catch in the playoffs
- 1:16:51Speaker 17: and the snow was one of the more amazing football
- 1:16:54Speaker 17: plays I've seen in my life. Um, also respecting AJ
- 1:16:58Speaker 17: Brown and whoa, what a phenomenal athlete. And as a
- 1:17:03Speaker 17: second tier Packers fan, um, I got to watch Romeo
- 1:17:07Speaker 17: Dobbs quite a bit last year. I wanted him to
- 1:17:09Speaker 17: walk home from Chicago after the onside kick mistake. But
- 1:17:16Speaker 17: if we look back at the value of the trade yesterday,
- 1:17:18Speaker 17: I guess my question is, if Kayshaun Booty was really
- 1:17:24Speaker 17: the number two option last year, up for debate, why
- 1:17:29Speaker 17: didn't the Patriots give him more snaps, more packages, And frankly,
- 1:17:36Speaker 17: why would you have to go out and look for
- 1:17:39Speaker 17: Romeo Dobbs and A.J. Brown if this guy really was somebody,
- 1:17:45Speaker 17: let's say, on the level of a second- or third-round pick,
- 1:17:49Speaker 17: thinking of Matthew Judon and our most recent Patriots experience?
- 1:17:53Speaker 17: So I'm just curious what you.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: Guys think about that. Well, you lost Diggs, too, so
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: you had to replace that production.
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: Yeah, well, and I think he did have— Mike, if you're
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: looking it up, I think he did have the second-most
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: snaps ever.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you said over 60%.
- 1:18:06Speaker 9: I think he might have had the most. I think
- 1:18:09Speaker 9: it was him, Hollins, Diggs. Because Diggs, remember, was not
- 1:18:11Speaker 9: a full-time player, really.
- 1:18:13Speaker 6: So the question to ask, and I was about to
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: start before we went back to the, you know, we
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: can talk about how he's the guy you feel best about. Well,
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: Drake May only threw it to him 40-something times.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: Thanks, Chucky.
- 1:18:26Speaker 7: So why was that?
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: And a lot of those games early, they didn't throw
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: the ball a lot.
- 1:18:33Speaker 9: But I keep saying the same thing. It's because he
- 1:18:35Speaker 9: has one trick. Like, what else are you going to
- 1:18:37Speaker 9: throw him?
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: Exactly. No, I understand. But in some of those early games,
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: I think they threw the ball, like, under 30 times.
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: Okay, but why did they throw the ball 60-something times
- 1:18:46Speaker 6: to Matt Collins and only 40-something times to..
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: Boone?
- 1:18:49Speaker 9: Because how many more times are you going to throw
- 1:18:50Speaker 9: him a go ball down the sideline?
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:18:54Speaker 9: Whenever we had the conversations of how to increase... booties
- 1:18:58Speaker 9: but volume and get him the ball more it all
- 1:19:01Speaker 9: it always came back to with me is what other
- 1:19:04Speaker 9: routes on the route tree is he good enough at
- 1:19:06Speaker 9: to run that he can get targets out in those
- 1:19:09Speaker 9: routes slants in cuts crossing routes you know whatever but
- 1:19:14Speaker 9: like it was always a fate it was always a
- 1:19:16Speaker 9: go or a back shoulder or something like that can
- 1:19:19Speaker 9: only throw so many of those like you're not going
- 1:19:21Speaker 9: to throw him 10 of those.
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: Kind of a niche player he's good he's good at
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: that niche yeah And I like Booty. This is going
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: to sound like now that he's gone, that we're trashing him.
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: And I don't think we are. But I understand that
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: they looked at it and said, we need to be
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: better than that.
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: Yeah, Matt Collins played 632 offensive snaps, 68%. Booty was second, 578,
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: just behind him, 67. And Diggs was 566. Just 12
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: snaps behind Booty.
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: So those guys all had roughly the same amount of snaps...
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: Yet Diggs was targeted a hundred times. Hollins was, I
- 1:19:58Speaker 6: think 67 and booty was 46 ish, 45.
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: 46, 46 targets, 33 catches.
- 1:20:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:20:09Speaker 7: If only I could harness this for good. Why is that?
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: Like my question would be to Drake may like, why
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: do you, why did you feel like that needed to
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: be broken down like that? And I think Evan's got it. Like,
- 1:20:21Speaker 6: He's not the guy that runs open all the time.
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: He does kind of one thing really, really well, and
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: it was a very valuable thing. He had six touchdowns
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: last year. It was a very valuable part of the offense.
- 1:20:33Speaker 9: 17 yards a catch.
- 1:20:34Speaker 7: I think that they feel like they can be better
- 1:20:36Speaker 7: than that.
- 1:20:37Speaker 9: Or at least they can replicate that skill set with
- 1:20:40Speaker 9: Kyle Williams, which I think is..
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: You hope.
- 1:20:43Speaker 9: I mean, he dropped to the guy in the third round.
- 1:20:45Speaker 9: You hope that he can just catch 30 passes.
- 1:20:47Speaker 6: But I'm looking at it as Dobbs is going to
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: more than double that production. And then you're going to
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: have the niche guy in Kyle Williams who can probably
- 1:20:56Speaker 6: catch three or four bombs for touchdowns.
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:20:59Speaker 7: During the course of the season, like he did last year.
- 1:21:02Speaker 6: You know, I mean, maybe it won't be six for
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: 17 yards a catch or 16 and change, whatever it was,
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: but he might be able to give you that sort of,
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: you know, once in a while, I look at Kyle
- 1:21:16Speaker 6: Williams as a guy who every game they're going to
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: send deep at least once or twice. And then maybe
- 1:21:21Speaker 6: every third game he catches one, you know, it's there.
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: They might just run them deep and he might just be,
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: you know, for the love of the game routes. And,
- 1:21:29Speaker 6: you know, he's opening up stuff for everybody else.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21:32Speaker 9: I think that's the biggest thing to, you know, to
- 1:21:34Speaker 9: Fred's question at the beginning of the show, like, why
- 1:21:36Speaker 9: can't you have all three of these guys together and,
- 1:21:39Speaker 9: those clear out routes are important. Like if you don't
- 1:21:41Speaker 9: have people that are clearing out defenders and stretching the
- 1:21:44Speaker 9: field vertically, like that, that's, that's how you get the
- 1:21:48Speaker 9: guys who you really want to throw the ball to that,
- 1:21:51Speaker 9: that gets those guys open. So, you know, having guys
- 1:21:54Speaker 9: like Kyle Williams, having even pop from the slot, like
- 1:21:57Speaker 9: those guys are running a lot of those types of
- 1:21:59Speaker 9: routes that are just kind of clearing space for the,
- 1:22:01Speaker 9: where they really intend to throw the ball. And I
- 1:22:05Speaker 9: think that's a big part of it, too. But I
- 1:22:07Speaker 9: would like to think that Kyle Williams could replicate the
- 1:22:09Speaker 9: production that Keyshawn Booty had last year. And if he can't,
- 1:22:14Speaker 9: then that's not a great third-round pick. A guy that
- 1:22:17Speaker 9: was drafted in the third round should be able to
- 1:22:19Speaker 9: give you four or five bombs a season.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: Sabah in North Carolina, what's up? Hey, guys.
- 1:22:29Speaker 25: Sorry I hung up earlier by accident. I kind of
- 1:22:31Speaker 25: hugged my phone in it.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: It's all right.
- 1:22:34Speaker 25: I'm sorry about that. Hey, I want to know how
- 1:22:36Speaker 25: to get on the T-shirt list. I'm wearing my I
- 1:22:38Speaker 25: Love Drake May T-shirt. I got my birthday last week.
- 1:22:41Speaker 25: What's the T-shirt list? Like, I've been hearing some people
- 1:22:45Speaker 25: get T-shirts.
- 1:22:45Speaker 16: Do I qualify for that?
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: Well, you've got to, like, have some amazing take or,
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: you know, something like that. You have to earn it.
- 1:22:54Speaker 9: Okay, let me see if I can earn it now.
- 1:22:55Speaker 25: They shouldn't have got rid of Booty or Diggs. I mean,
- 1:22:59Speaker 25: I know it wasn't high volume, but the quality of
- 1:23:02Speaker 25: what they did, they were like the glue to put
- 1:23:04Speaker 25: all the pieces together. Every time you needed a really
- 1:23:06Speaker 25: big place, Booty and Diggs seemed to come through, and
- 1:23:09Speaker 25: I'm mad that they got rid of both. Why couldn't
- 1:23:11Speaker 25: they instead get rid of wrong choice William? I don't
- 1:23:15Speaker 25: like him. I mean, and he's younger, and maybe somebody
- 1:23:18Speaker 25: would give us more for him than Booty. So did
- 1:23:21Speaker 25: you see if I said Booty? Did you notice I
- 1:23:23Speaker 25: said us?
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:23:25Speaker 15: I said us.
- 1:23:27Speaker 25: So I'm upset. Like, Drake May is a young quarterback,
- 1:23:31Speaker 25: and he needs all the help he can get to
- 1:23:33Speaker 25: really stay successful like he's been. Why mess up all
- 1:23:36Speaker 25: the mojo? I don't understand.
- 1:23:38Speaker 16: And why keep Williams?
- 1:23:39Speaker 25: I don't even like Williams that much.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: You know me. Well, they like Williams.
- 1:23:43Speaker 16: Maybe that's good.
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they like his speed, and they like what they
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: think he can do eventually.
- 1:23:48Speaker 9: They like his contract.
- 1:23:49Speaker 6: They think Brown is better than Diggs, and they think
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: Dobbs is better than Booty. That's the short answer to this.
- 1:23:54Speaker 9: And they like Williams' contract.
- 1:23:57Speaker 25: Okay, Booty will not be as good with that guy
- 1:24:00Speaker 25: from Texans going to him. I can guarantee you that
- 1:24:02Speaker 25: right now.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: You heard it here first.
- 1:24:04Speaker 7: This is how this is going to unfold, so I
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: can never be proven wrong.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: All right, Sabah. Your T-shirt is going to go to
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: review by the judges, and you will hear from us shortly.
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Thank you for calling.
- 1:24:17Speaker 9: Thanks for your consideration.
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: I just, I want to, I want to make a
- 1:24:21Speaker 6: preemptive strike. So somehow Nico Collins is one of the
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: best 10 receivers in football with that stiff throwing the ball.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: So when Keishon booty continues to be sort of this,
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: like a complimentary kind of piece to the offense, can
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: we not blame it on CJ Stroud?
- 1:24:41Speaker 7: Can we do that? Like it doesn't hurt Nico Collins.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: Is he a long ball threat?
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: He's an everything threat. He's one of the better receivers.
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: At minimum, he's a top 20 receiver.
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: Top 10.
- 1:24:54Speaker 7: I think he's top 10.
- 1:24:55Speaker 9: He's a monster.
- 1:24:56Speaker 7: But I'll even submit maybe he's only top 20.
- 1:24:58Speaker 9: Did he play in the playoff game, Paul?
- 1:25:00Speaker 10: I forget.
- 1:25:00Speaker 7: I think you know the answer to that. I think
- 1:25:03Speaker 7: you know the answer to that.
- 1:25:05Speaker 9: I think C.J. Stroud bounces back a little bit this year.
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: He had two horrific playoff games. That's not indicative of
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: his entire career. And prior to that, in the playoffs,
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: he had actually played reasonably well. Maybe he's broken. The
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: offense has been broken. The coordination has been broken. The
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: line has been broken. Maybe you're too with Nick Haley.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: I was going to bring that up.
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: You know?
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:29Speaker 9: I mean, I think he was, I'm not sure if
- 1:25:31Speaker 9: he was totally ready for it last year. And I
- 1:25:33Speaker 9: think that might've played a role in why Stroud backslided
- 1:25:35Speaker 9: a little bit, but the line has been their biggest issue.
- 1:25:38Speaker 9: Like their offensive line has been kind of in shambles.
- 1:25:41Speaker 9: And then I've never seen anything like what Trent Brown
- 1:25:44Speaker 9: did to them in that playoff game. And that bothered me.
- 1:25:46Speaker 9: And it still bothers me. Like you go through pregame warmups.
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: And, And then you say not, and then you tap
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: out right before the start of the game and make
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: them completely put the line in a blender to figure
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: out how to get through a playoff game, no less.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: And then CJ Stroud's under constant siege and has the
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: worst game of his career.
- 1:26:04Speaker 9: And we all think he stinks.
- 1:26:06Speaker 6: No, I mean, he certainly stunk in those two playoff games.
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: I'll say two. It wasn't just that he was just
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: as bad in Pittsburgh.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: Yeah. He was. Richard in Attleboro, will legal seafood only
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: be available during games? Would love to grab a lobster
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: roll on my grocery trips to Patriot Place. Yeah, only
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: during games. Just go to a legal seafood restaurant. They're
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: all over the place. Besides that, just want to give
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: a shout out to the social media team this year.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: They've been phenomenal compared to previous years as well as
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: all of training camp videos and coverage.
- 1:26:38Speaker 9: Good job.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Shout out to the admin.
- 1:26:40Speaker 10: Good job, admin.
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Let's see. Little listener on listener crime. You know I
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: love that, right?
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: I do love it.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: Jay in Minnesota. We all know that Christian in L.A.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: is the villain of all the listeners. I would say
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: that he's overdoing the role, and it's stale now. My
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: least favorite caller now is Herman D.C. He always has
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: to start with, What's up, fellas? I have two quick
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: questions for you, and they are never quick. It's always
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: this weird merry-go-round of gobbledygook, and it annoys the ever-living
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: hell out of me. I will have to say he
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: does spark good conversations with the question most of the
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: time when he finally gets to it. So there you go.
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: A little.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Couched with a compliment.
- 1:27:23Speaker 7: Is it time for a rebuttal?
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: It might be. On the phone is Christian in L.A.
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: And by the way, Christian, I know you called one
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: of the morning shows yesterday morning or this morning.
- 1:27:36Speaker 7: Cheating on us.
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: No, I didn't call the show this morning.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: I heard you. I heard you.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: It seriously wasn't me.
- 1:27:43Speaker 16: I was going to call Catch-22, but I didn't call.
- 1:27:47Speaker 16: I mean, whoever it was, if they said something that
- 1:27:50Speaker 16: sounds like me..
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it was someone that sounded just like you,
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: and they had just as bad a call, so it
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: had to be you.
- 1:27:59Speaker 16: Well, I'll try not to have as bad a call,
- 1:28:02Speaker 16: or not to be the quote-unquote stale villain.
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: First of all, guys, you know what? I would love.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: To sponsor a blind..
- 1:28:11Speaker 16: Chowder taste test that I will pay for you guys
- 1:28:15Speaker 16: each to name your three favorite chowders in New England,
- 1:28:18Speaker 16: and let's have a blind.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: Taste test and see how it stacks up.
- 1:28:22Speaker 16: Of course, legal seafood should win, and I think they will,
- 1:28:25Speaker 16: but let's have the blind taste test.
- 1:28:26Speaker 7: I like that. I'd like to see you guys do that.
- 1:28:29Speaker 16: That's a lot of plans.
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. It's a little tough. I don't
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: want to... We can't give other places... You know, legal
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: seafood pays for their place in the sun. We can't
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: be sharing that with others.
- 1:28:43Speaker 9: Plus, nothing competes with legal seafood.
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: I don't even know where you would have other competition from.
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: There isn't any competition. There's no competition. I think Christian
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Nolley's trying to prove a point here.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: Although, Christian, when I went to L.A., I noticed they
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: put bacon in the clam chowder.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: Oh, they do that here somewhere, in some places.
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: That was new for me.
- 1:28:58Speaker 9: When you go to L.A., they don't have good seafood,
- 1:29:00Speaker 9: so that's okay.
- 1:29:02Speaker 18: The other thing we do here in L.A.
- 1:29:03Speaker 16: That a lot of people don't do, I even thought
- 1:29:05Speaker 16: about starting a truck someplace, is we put bacon around
- 1:29:08Speaker 16: the hot dog.
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: Bacon-wrapped hot dog.
- 1:29:11Speaker 16: If you've never had a bacon-wrapped.
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: Hot dog, forget about it.
- 1:29:14Speaker 16: Your life will change once you do it.
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: Now, what do you put on that, Christian?
- 1:29:19Speaker 16: You know, I put on those red grilled onions.
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: That they have in New York City.
- 1:29:27Speaker 16: And here's the thing they do here in L.A., They
- 1:29:29Speaker 16: sprinkle some mayo and some chili lime on it.
- 1:29:32Speaker 7: I don't want mayo on my hot dog.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: On a hot dog?
- 1:29:35Speaker 16: I've not had..
- 1:29:36Speaker 9: Welcome to L.A.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: Wait, wait, wait.
- 1:29:39Speaker 10: Where are you going?
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: Is this like Carney's or what do you got?
- 1:29:42Speaker 9: You going to Pink's?
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 1:29:44Speaker 16: This is the L.A.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: Street Dog.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: Oh, just L.A. Street Dog. Right next to the street tacos.
- 1:29:49Speaker 9: I've been to Pink's a couple of times and that's
- 1:29:51Speaker 9: like the bathroom time after that is like... You better
- 1:29:55Speaker 9: be near a restroom after you..
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: All right, thanks, Christian.
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: I'm intrigued by that bacon-wrapped hot dog though with the
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: red onions.
- 1:30:03Speaker 7: That sounds good. Why are you going to always chastise me?
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: There's only one way to eat a hot dog. The
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: long way? You can't get it this way. It's with
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: sauerkraut and brown mustard. That's how you eat a hot dog.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:30:15Speaker 9: That's Jewish deli. Get your sauerkraut, brown mustard.
- 1:30:18Speaker 7: I don't really like sauerkraut.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: On a hot dog? Have you had it? I have
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: had it. On a hot dog? Yes. And you don't
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: like it?
- 1:30:25Speaker 7: It's not my favorite.
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: Reuben?
- 1:30:26Speaker 9: It's not my favorite either.
- 1:30:27Speaker 7: I don't like Reuben's.
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: You don't like Reuben's?
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: No.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: What's the matter with you?
- 1:30:30Speaker 9: What's the matter with you?
- 1:30:31Speaker 7: I don't really like sauerkraut.
- 1:30:32Speaker 9: Do you like Rachel's?
- 1:30:34Speaker 7: What's Rachel's?
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: It's a female Reuben.
- 1:30:37Speaker 9: It's a turkey Reuben.
- 1:30:38Speaker 7: I don't know if I've ever partaken.
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: No, listen. Hot dogs, ground mustard, and sauerkraut. That's it.
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: None of bacon wrap and peppers and this and that.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: You put peppers on sausage.
- 1:30:51Speaker 7: I agree. Sausage and pepper is one of the sausage, pepper, onions.
- 1:30:56Speaker 10: And mayo on a hot dog?
- 1:30:59Speaker 7: I don't like mayo on a hot dog. Joe asked
- 1:31:00Speaker 7: me that on the broadcast a couple years ago. I
- 1:31:03Speaker 7: was like, grossed out by it.
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: I wouldn't do it myself, but I'm sure if I
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: tried it, it would be delicious.
- 1:31:09Speaker 9: I don't like to give New York a lot of compliments,
- 1:31:11Speaker 9: but Grey's Papaya is the real deal in New York.
- 1:31:15Speaker 9: Their hot dogs are much better than any of the
- 1:31:18Speaker 9: ones I had in L.A. Sorry, Christian. I do like Pink's, though.
- 1:31:21Speaker 9: Pink's was good.
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: I used to walk there.
- 1:31:25Speaker 9: That's more like it's got a bunch of stuff on it.
- 1:31:28Speaker 9: It's not like chili and cheese.
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: Like Paul said, if you have to put all that
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: stuff on it, it probably isn't that good. Yeah.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: It's a hot dog.
- 1:31:39Speaker 6: I do like, yeah, a hot dog is kind of
- 1:31:42Speaker 6: not that good on its own.
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: Oh, I used to eat hot dogs raw.
- 1:31:45Speaker 9: I was going to say, Fred loves hot dogs.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: It's bologna. It's bologna.
- 1:31:49Speaker 7: Yeah, and bologna's kind of gross.
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: Oh, it is.
- 1:31:53Speaker 9: Fred loves the hot dogs.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: I do like, I like a good hot dog. I
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: like a good hot dog. A grilled hot dog.
- 1:31:59Speaker 10: Every now and then.
- 1:32:00Speaker 7: But I, you know, mustard, onion.
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Costco hot dogs are good too.
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: That's like always time.
- 1:32:04Speaker 10: It's a buck fifty.
- 1:32:05Speaker 9: If you want a hot dog here, there's a place
- 1:32:07Speaker 9: called Casey's in Natick. And it's like a little, like,
- 1:32:11Speaker 9: you go in, and it's just a lunch counter. And
- 1:32:14Speaker 9: it's almost like a train car type of situation. And
- 1:32:18Speaker 9: there's about 14 or 15 stools in there.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: Oh, yeah?
- 1:32:22Speaker 9: And you can stand if you want to, and there's
- 1:32:23Speaker 9: a window also. And then they got hot dogs, and
- 1:32:27Speaker 9: they got burgers.
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: This place is delightful, Ev.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: Too delightful.
- 1:32:33Speaker 9: My dad grew up in Framingham.
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: Is Simcoe's and Mattapan still around?
- 1:32:38Speaker 9: I don't know about that one, but Casey's in Natick
- 1:32:41Speaker 9: is the place to go for hot dogs around here.
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: Spencer's in D.C. Where do you go for hot dogs? Spencer.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: Hi.
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: Hi. Hi.
- 1:32:53Speaker 20: Thanks for taking my call. I wanted to thank you
- 1:32:56Speaker 20: guys again for the T-shirt you guys sent a couple
- 1:32:59Speaker 20: months back. I called Spencer from Penn State. It was
- 1:33:03Speaker 20: a great gift for my dad's birthday.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: From Brookline. He's been a longtime Pats fan. Oh, good.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: The PSW in progress. It really meant a lot.
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: Nice. Okay.
- 1:33:12Speaker 10: So Matt does send some of the shirts out.
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: I was going to say, finally, we got one that
- 1:33:15Speaker 7: they actually sent.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: It to us.
- 1:33:19Speaker 20: So I got a hypothetical for you guys. What do
- 1:33:22Speaker 20: you think is more likely? Efton Chisholm has a 1,000-yard
- 1:33:27Speaker 20: season or... the Patriots make it all the way to
- 1:33:32Speaker 20: the AFC championship. And it's in the sin city, Las
- 1:33:36Speaker 20: Vegas and Drake may on the game winning touchdown drive.
- 1:33:40Speaker 20: He runs it in, but Max Cosby, he's still pissed.
- 1:33:43Speaker 20: He didn't get traded to Baltimore and he hits him late.
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: He breaks his arm.
- 1:33:48Speaker 20: And now you got to start Tommy DeVito in the
- 1:33:50Speaker 20: super bowl. And you're thinking, man, if only there was
- 1:33:53Speaker 20: someone in Las Vegas who can leave with the team
- 1:33:56Speaker 20: and already knows the Josh McDaniels playbook. So the teams, it's.
- 1:34:01Speaker 7: This big victory.
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:34:04Speaker 20: Until they look up at the TV and someone has
- 1:34:07Speaker 20: sold a major owner's stake of the Raiders and Tom
- 1:34:11Speaker 20: Brady walks in and says, I'm back and wins one
- 1:34:15Speaker 20: more Super Bowl with the Patriots against the New York Giants.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: Easy.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: Easy.
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: Easy. I know Paul would say B.
- 1:34:24Speaker 7: That was well done, Spencer.
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: That was well done. Thanks, Spencer.
- 1:34:28Speaker 9: I'm glad that Robert Spillane said that about Tom Brady.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: I'm glad.
- 1:34:32Speaker 10: He was sad for him. I felt bad for him.
- 1:34:35Speaker 9: I understand that Josh McDaniels and Mike Rabel are going
- 1:34:38Speaker 9: to take the high road and all that. It's a
- 1:34:42Speaker 9: crappy comment.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: Paul was right. Here we go. Gandalf in the Shire.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: First off, I wish Booty well and hope he thrives
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: in Houston. However, I'm not concerned with Stroud throwing to
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: his third or fourth wide receiver in the playoffs against
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: the Patriots. It's more likely that the trade will come
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: back to haunt the Texans. I can see Stroud picking
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: up right where he left off, throwing another interception right
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: to our boy Reed to seal the game.
- 1:35:07Speaker 7: I mean, there is a chance that Booty is the
- 1:35:10Speaker 7: third or fourth receiver at best. Now, I don't know
- 1:35:13Speaker 7: exactly where..
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: Where's Tank? Where's Tank ready to go, right?
- 1:35:16Speaker 6: I don't know where Tank... If Tank is ready to
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: come back, then he's unquestionably, like, fourth. But I'm not
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: sure about Jalen Knoll either.
- 1:35:24Speaker 25: Yeah.
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: But you see how he fits in well.
- 1:35:27Speaker 10: I mean, he gives you an outside guy with..
- 1:35:28Speaker 9: Yeah, but he could also be the set..
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:35:30Speaker 9: It could be him and Nico.
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: He could be the two, and he has already proven
- 1:35:34Speaker 6: that you do not have to flood him with targets
- 1:35:36Speaker 6: to get production out of him.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:35:38Speaker 11: So..
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: I probably think more of C.J. Stroud than virtually anybody now.
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: Now his value couldn't be any lower.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: I hear you, though, Paul.
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: I loved him after those first couple playoffs where he
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: just showed so much toughness.
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: He's not as bad as he played in the playoffs.
- 1:35:56Speaker 9: His rookie year was really good. I mean, it was
- 1:36:00Speaker 9: every bit as good as Drake May and Jaden Daniels'
- 1:36:03Speaker 9: breakout years.
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: I wonder what the Cayley offense looks like, like how
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: much of it's McVay, how much of it is, does
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: he have any New England influence?
- 1:36:11Speaker 9: It tried to be like a melting pot. And I
- 1:36:13Speaker 9: think that that kind of, they were, had one foot
- 1:36:15Speaker 9: in one door and one foot in the other. And
- 1:36:17Speaker 9: I think that you got to kind of commit to
- 1:36:19Speaker 9: a system. Like they were trying to run a lot
- 1:36:21Speaker 9: of McVay stuff, but then their drop back game was
- 1:36:24Speaker 9: very McDaniels. And like that marriage was kind of.
- 1:36:26Speaker 7: And they could not run the ball at all.
- 1:36:29Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Muhammad from Philly. What's up?
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: Hey, thanks for taking my call guys. Um, I got
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: two questions for you.
- 1:36:37Speaker 26: Uh, Jalen Reed, he was a six round pick last year.
- 1:36:40Speaker 26: I just wanted to get a little bit of feedback on,
- 1:36:43Speaker 26: is that the quality player he is?
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: Or is it just cause, uh, uh, you know.
- 1:36:48Speaker 26: Players like Nick M and warrior on the stage like
- 1:36:50Speaker 26: that he had last year kind of boosted his stock.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: So how would you guys grade them?
- 1:36:54Speaker 26: And then the second question is for 2027, are we
- 1:36:57Speaker 26: done drafting receivers or, you know, AJ is not a
- 1:37:00Speaker 26: spring chicken anymore. Uh, you know, after next year.
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: So are we looking, you know, we're going to be
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: back in that hole.
- 1:37:06Speaker 26: Looking for a wide receiver one moving forward.
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: Let's see what happens this year. Muhammad, you've been to
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: the Victor cafe in Philly.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: Great place.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: It is good. All right. Thanks Muhammad.
- 1:37:18Speaker 7: I think there'll be back in the wide receiver market.
- 1:37:20Speaker 7: I think a lot of their guys, as Mike has
- 1:37:22Speaker 7: been pointing out throughout the off season, Douglas Hollins, these
- 1:37:25Speaker 7: guys are in the last year of their deals. Yeah,
- 1:37:28Speaker 7: I think they'll probably be in the market for a
- 1:37:30Speaker 7: wide receiver.
- 1:37:30Speaker 9: But I don't think at the top of the depth chart.
- 1:37:32Speaker 9: I think they get two years out of this Brown
- 1:37:34Speaker 9: and Dobbs duo. But, yeah, for guys to fill out
- 1:37:38Speaker 9: and maybe have ceilings that could be number one receivers.
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: Andrew in Vermont taking issue with Evan. I like that.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: First of all, he says, a big fan. Show has
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: gotten better with time, especially the addition of Mike, Evan,
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: and Alex. Sorry, Paul and Fred. Love you both, too.
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: Mostly it's a shot at Andy and Eric. That said,
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: I felt compelled to email because of Evans' reversal on
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: a long-standing off-season take. Several times, fans have called in
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: asking about Hollins as a tight end. Evans has mocked
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: these callers on both PU and Cash 22, explaining that
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: Hollins is too small a body and not good enough
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: blocker to be a tight end.
- 1:38:15Speaker 9: So true.
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: Fair enough, except this morning on Cash 22, when discussing
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: the tight end depth, I was shocked. To hear Evans
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: suggest that the Patriots will probably have to run four
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: wide receiver plays with Hollins as a stand-in tight end.
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: Shame on you, Evan, for stealing this take from the
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: callers and passing it off as your own. Okay.
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: Can't believe you did that.
- 1:38:39Speaker 9: Is there truth to that?
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: You don't recall saying that?
- 1:38:43Speaker 9: Shame on you. Don't like that language.
- 1:38:46Speaker 7: Shame on you.
- 1:38:47Speaker 9: Yeah, that's like, do better.
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: No, be better.
- 1:38:51Speaker 7: My personal favorite.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: But does he have a point?
- 1:38:53Speaker 9: I said that if Henry got hurt, instead of relying
- 1:38:58Speaker 9: too much on the young guys in Raritan and the rookies,
- 1:39:02Speaker 9: I could see them becoming more four-wide receiver heavy and
- 1:39:06Speaker 9: that they could use Hollins and some of those blocking responsibilities.
- 1:39:10Speaker 7: I would just say that.
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: They're both right.
- 1:39:15Speaker 7: He's not a tight end.
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: He would take over some of those responsibilities because you
- 1:39:20Speaker 6: don't have a tight end. If you ask him to
- 1:39:22Speaker 6: line up in line and block like a traditional tight end,
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: he can't, he's not big enough to do that. I
- 1:39:28Speaker 6: think he can be a good blocking wide receiver and
- 1:39:32Speaker 6: take on tight end qualities. I know that sounds like
- 1:39:34Speaker 6: I'm qualifying it, but like, I think people think Because
- 1:39:38Speaker 6: they're so thin at tight end, he's a tight end now, not.
- 1:39:40Speaker 7: A wide receiver.
- 1:39:41Speaker 6: I think he's a wide receiver who can be like
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: a tight end. But he's 220-some-odd pounds?
- 1:39:46Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a big difference between picking off DBs
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: and lining up against a defensive end.
- 1:39:51Speaker 9: And I wasn't even really talking about them doing it
- 1:39:55Speaker 9: in run situations either. I was more talking like... on
- 1:39:58Speaker 9: third down, if there's no Hunter Henry, then instead of
- 1:40:01Speaker 9: having 11 personnel with three receivers and Hunter Henry, maybe
- 1:40:05Speaker 9: they just go 10 and they have four wide receivers
- 1:40:07Speaker 9: and Hollins is kind of running Henry's routes.
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: We saw a little of that at practice one of
- 1:40:11Speaker 6: those days, Mike, that you and I were sitting in
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: the VIP area.
- 1:40:14Speaker 9: Yeah, I wasn't even talking about him. Like, like, blocking
- 1:40:18Speaker 9: people in the run game and stuff like that. I
- 1:40:19Speaker 9: was talking about it as a passing formation.
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: But that's what the conversation is when people ask, can
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: he be a tight end? Like, that's what a tight
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: end does. You block on early downs, and you've got
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: to have your hand in everything, you know?
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: And I think with him, I think that because he's
- 1:40:33Speaker 6: so versatile, he can allow you maybe to save a run.
- 1:40:36Speaker 7: You don't have tight ends.
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: You have, like, basically two guys that you feel okay
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: about in Henry and Raritan. We're trying to learn a
- 1:40:43Speaker 6: little bit about Tanner Arkin. We don't know exactly what
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: that is and what that's going to look like. So
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: you can save a roster spot and then use Hollins
- 1:40:54Speaker 6: in a variety of different ways, not the least of
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: which is a deep threat, too, which I think people
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: forget about.
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: And that's why Josh loves him. All the things we
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: list off that that guy can do. He's not a superstar,
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: but he's fine being the number four or five receiver,
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: doing what you need, running straight down the field a
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: full sprint and not knowing he's not going to get
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: the ball. That's why he's valuable.
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: Matt in Virginia just wanted to chime in to give
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: you all another talking point for the Henderson vs. Stevenson thing.
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: Even Madden thinks Henderson is better and has him rated
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: 82 OVR as the primary starter for the team with
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: Mondray only at 78. I'm not sure why this is
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: the prevailing opinion around football in general, but like you all,
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: I also watch football and believe Madre is still a
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: better overall back than Henderson is today.
- 1:41:38Speaker 9: There's one thing that Madden loves, and it's speed.
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: Speed.
- 1:41:41Speaker 7: Can you answer that? And I don't play Madden.
- 1:41:43Speaker 9: Yeah. I, you know, I know it's evolved in like
- 1:41:46Speaker 9: bar to the finger wags me and says, it's like,
- 1:41:48Speaker 9: not like this anymore. When I, when we were kids
- 1:41:50Speaker 9: growing up, Bethel Johnson, might as well have been Randy
- 1:41:53Speaker 9: Moss in Madden because he was a 99 speed. And
- 1:41:57Speaker 9: so you could just put them on the field at
- 1:41:59Speaker 9: wide receiver and he'd run by everybody because he was
- 1:42:01Speaker 9: the fastest guy in the game. And that's the, why
- 1:42:04Speaker 9: Henderson has a higher rating than Ramond is because he's
- 1:42:06Speaker 9: faster press conference.
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: I think this is also kind of jarring to me
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: that they had so much, that he's had such a
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: good camp, that Ramondre Stevenson.
- 1:42:15Speaker 10: This is all coming on the heels of Ramondre.
- 1:42:16Speaker 9: I guess Elliott is already there.
- 1:42:17Speaker 7: That's what Ace is trying to tell us. But I
- 1:42:20Speaker 7: don't hear it.
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: We've got Elliott? Yeah. We can't hear it.
- 1:42:28Speaker 14: He showed tremendous growth and progress as a person and
- 1:42:32Speaker 14: a player, and excited for him and his opportunity. But
- 1:42:36Speaker 14: this was about the Patriots and doing what's best for
- 1:42:38Speaker 14: our organization.
- 1:42:40Speaker 13: How would you describe where things stand with Christian Gonzalez
- 1:42:43Speaker 13: and the talks?
- 1:42:44Speaker 18: Yeah, nothing new to report on Christian. Want him here.
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: He's an elite player.
- 1:42:51Speaker 14: Been on record saying that before, and we're continuing to
- 1:42:53Speaker 14: work with his representation to find a resolution that works
- 1:42:57Speaker 14: for everyone.
- 1:42:57Speaker 12: Do you view week one as sort of an internal
- 1:43:00Speaker 12: deadline when it comes to his potential extension.
- 1:43:02Speaker 19: Or would you guys be open to continuing that throughout
- 1:43:05Speaker 19: the season?
- 1:43:06Speaker 18: We're just kind of taking it a day at a
- 1:43:07Speaker 18: time right now. We haven't set a deadline.
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: Situation a complicating factor in that at all?
- 1:43:14Speaker 18: Probably not familiar with the Joey Porter situation.
- 1:43:17Speaker 8: Joey Porter for the Steelers also seeking a big contract.
- 1:43:20Speaker 9: I know Devon Witherspoon was someone that people..
- 1:43:23Speaker 16: Yeah, I know.
- 1:43:24Speaker 14: I mean, every situation's different. We're just focusing on our
- 1:43:26Speaker 14: situation here.
- 1:43:27Speaker 27: Do you have clarity on exactly what they're asking for
- 1:43:31Speaker 27: and where the gaps are right now?
- 1:43:34Speaker 14: We're not going to get into any details in the
- 1:43:36Speaker 14: negotiation right now. Just know that we're working and We'll
- 1:43:40Speaker 14: go from there. Are you going to.
- 1:43:41Speaker 10: Answer no question?
- 1:43:42Speaker 27: I'm not asking you to tell me what the details are,
- 1:43:45Speaker 27: but do you know where their stance is and where
- 1:43:47Speaker 27: you guys are so we can have a view maybe
- 1:43:49Speaker 27: on the outside as to what separation there is so
- 1:43:51Speaker 27: we can pass.
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: That on to the fans?
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:43:55Speaker 27: Are you confident that a deal will get done with Christian?
- 1:43:59Speaker 14: I'm confident that we're continuing to work on it, and
- 1:44:02Speaker 14: we're positive that we're making momentum.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: I understand that there are seven receivers. Why did Keyshawn
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: have to be kind of the odd man?
- 1:44:13Speaker 14: I guess he was the odd man out, but there
- 1:44:15Speaker 14: were some different conversations that we had with different teams
- 1:44:18Speaker 14: throughout the league.
- 1:44:20Speaker 18: Again, the opportunity to.
- 1:44:21Speaker 14: Acquire Jalen Reed for a player that Houston wanted is
- 1:44:25Speaker 14: something that we decided to pull the trigger on.
- 1:44:28Speaker 18: We feel really good about our receiver group.
- 1:44:30Speaker 14: We have guys that can play in multiple positions.
- 1:44:32Speaker 18: They all really complement each other well.
- 1:44:34Speaker 14: Obviously, when we acquired Romeo and A.J., you know, something
- 1:44:38Speaker 14: had to give because we have, you know, guys that
- 1:44:40Speaker 14: can play in the slot, guys can play Z block.
- 1:44:42Speaker 18: Play special teams.
- 1:44:43Speaker 14: So there's just a lot of different elements and we
- 1:44:46Speaker 14: feel really good about the guys that we have in
- 1:44:47Speaker 14: the room.
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: What did you make of Mike saying the other night
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: that the roster wasn't very deep?
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: He mentioned speaking to you about it. So I just
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: wonder how that all went.
- 1:45:01Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:45:01Speaker 14: I mean, you know, every, every season is different. We've
- 1:45:05Speaker 14: acquired in quite a, Had some injuries here over the
- 1:45:10Speaker 14: course of the last couple of weeks that obviously thinned
- 1:45:13Speaker 14: things out. We were pretty lucky, knock on wood, last
- 1:45:16Speaker 14: year with some of the injury things that we had.
- 1:45:19Speaker 14: Every year is different. Every position is different. We're deeper
- 1:45:21Speaker 14: at some positions than we were last year. We're shallower
- 1:45:23Speaker 14: at others. This time of year is a great opportunity
- 1:45:26Speaker 14: for the scouts and for us to work the phones,
- 1:45:30Speaker 14: talking about different trades.
- 1:45:31Speaker 18: Obviously, you acquired a safety yesterday.
- 1:45:33Speaker 14: Which helped increase the depth in that room, and just
- 1:45:36Speaker 14: have opportunities to make the roster deeper in the areas
- 1:45:38Speaker 14: that we feel like we need to.
- 1:45:42Speaker 28: Would you just say that the roster being thin is
- 1:45:46Speaker 28: a result of poor drafts in the past, or is
- 1:45:50Speaker 28: it a combination of things?
- 1:45:52Speaker 18: I think it's probably a combination of things.
- 1:45:53Speaker 14: Obviously, other than Drake and Marcellus and Del Pettis, the
- 1:45:59Speaker 14: 2024 draft obviously didn't– you know, net the results that
- 1:46:02Speaker 14: we were hoping for there. And, you know, those things
- 1:46:04Speaker 14: all kind of pile together and, you know, create situations
- 1:46:09Speaker 14: where we're needing to upgrade from outside the building.
- 1:46:12Speaker 24: Going back to the Keishon trade, you mentioned wanting to
- 1:46:14Speaker 24: draft Jalen. You had drafted eight players before he came
- 1:46:17Speaker 24: off the board. So I'm curious, what about the timing
- 1:46:20Speaker 24: of this deal? May this have to happen now where
- 1:46:23Speaker 24: Jalen in the seventh round pick was better than Keishon,
- 1:46:26Speaker 24: maybe even for a couple of months, if you waited
- 1:46:28Speaker 24: to deal him before the trade deadline?
- 1:46:30Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean, again, we have a deep receiver room.
- 1:46:32Speaker 14: I think that's really what it came down to. And
- 1:46:36Speaker 14: as you look to the game day roster, there's maybe
- 1:46:38Speaker 14: some situations where the opportunities for certain players wouldn't be there,
- 1:46:42Speaker 14: and we felt like this was the right time.
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: To do it.
- 1:46:44Speaker 20: Was there any concern about helping out a conference rival,
- 1:46:49Speaker 20: potential opponent, a team you played in the playoffs last year?
- 1:46:52Speaker 14: No, there was no concern about that, and I don't
- 1:46:55Speaker 14: think there was any concern for them to send us
- 1:46:57Speaker 14: a safety that we think can play.
- 1:46:59Speaker 13: Yesterday at practice we saw Travion leave a little early
- 1:47:03Speaker 13: after slipping. What level of concern is there, if any,
- 1:47:06Speaker 13: that that is a situation that is very serious?
- 1:47:09Speaker 14: Yeah, we're working through that situation now, and he's probably
- 1:47:14Speaker 14: not going to be out there at practice today, but
- 1:47:15Speaker 14: we'll see how that goes.
- 1:47:17Speaker 24: You mentioned A.J.
- 1:47:18Speaker 8: Brown and Rubio Dobbs are in, kind of Stefan Diggs,
- 1:47:20Speaker 8: and now Keyshawn Booty out. Last year you guys were
- 1:47:23Speaker 8: number two in points. Drake Mays, runner-up for MVP. So
- 1:47:29Speaker 8: was it the playoffs that, um, you decided, uh, that
- 1:47:33Speaker 8: you guys need an upgraded receiver? Just where, where did
- 1:47:36Speaker 8: you decide that you need.
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: An upgrade there?
- 1:47:39Speaker 18: Uh, it was kind of ongoing.
- 1:47:41Speaker 14: Um, you know, just felt like, again, in free agency,
- 1:47:44Speaker 14: there's only so many young talented players that are out there.
- 1:47:47Speaker 14: So Romeo was a guy that we identified early on
- 1:47:49Speaker 14: in the process that we wanted to acquire and we
- 1:47:52Speaker 14: were able to, and then obviously when a, when a
- 1:47:54Speaker 14: talent like AJ Brown becomes available, um, as long as
- 1:47:59Speaker 14: we had to wait for that in the offseason and
- 1:48:01Speaker 14: start those conversations when we started them.
- 1:48:04Speaker 18: It was just an elite.
- 1:48:06Speaker 14: Player that we're excited to be able to acquire. It's
- 1:48:09Speaker 14: always about improving the roster. You asked the question about depth.
- 1:48:13Speaker 14: Some of the depth pieces, like we have guys that
- 1:48:15Speaker 14: are good enough to be on the 53, but we'll
- 1:48:17Speaker 14: be looking to upgrade. and you know it's all about
- 1:48:20Speaker 14: trying to get better each.
- 1:48:20Speaker 29: Day christian is there any concern at all that if
- 1:48:25Speaker 29: he doesn't have a new contract for the season you'll
- 1:48:27Speaker 29: get something less than the full version of christian whether
- 1:48:31Speaker 29: he's protecting himself or mentally he's just not fully there
- 1:48:33Speaker 29: is there any concern on the team's end that if
- 1:48:36Speaker 29: he doesn't have a deal, he might be a different
- 1:48:38Speaker 29: type of player.
- 1:48:39Speaker 14: No, he's a tremendous competitor. He wants to be the
- 1:48:42Speaker 14: best at his position, so there's no concerns like that.
- 1:48:45Speaker 23: You said you're making momentum with those negotiations.
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: What does that mean?
- 1:48:49Speaker 14: Again, I'm not going to get into the negotiations here today.
- 1:48:53Speaker 14: We are working with Christian's representative to try to get
- 1:48:56Speaker 14: something done, and that's what we're doing.
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: There was a.
- 1:48:58Speaker 28: Point before that Cajun had requested a trade-out. Did the
- 1:49:02Speaker 28: timing of this trade, you said it was the receiver,
- 1:49:05Speaker 28: but did it also have to do with Keishon possibly
- 1:49:07Speaker 28: wanting to get out before the season started to be
- 1:49:10Speaker 28: with a new team rather than waiting for the deadline?
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: No, it didn't.
- 1:49:14Speaker 14: Obviously, getting a player, for us getting Jalen in now,
- 1:49:18Speaker 14: he gets an opportunity to work with the defensive coaches.
- 1:49:20Speaker 14: Safety is obviously a tough position to learn, get with
- 1:49:22Speaker 14: the special teams coaches. He's played some PP in the past,
- 1:49:25Speaker 14: so that's something that he can start to learn our
- 1:49:28Speaker 14: cadence and our system there. The same probably goes true
- 1:49:31Speaker 14: for Keishon, but Um, no, that, that didn't really factor in. Um,
- 1:49:35Speaker 14: Kayshaun was a, was a very professional throughout the whole
- 1:49:39Speaker 14: off season and did a nice job for us.
- 1:49:41Speaker 18: And he had a good camp as you guys all saw.
- 1:49:43Speaker 12: You guys have dealt with a series of injuries with
- 1:49:45Speaker 12: your backup offensive linemen.
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: What is your level of concern with the group behind
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: your starters right now?
- 1:49:50Speaker 14: Well, I think, uh, you know, we signed Greg Van Roten, um,
- 1:49:53Speaker 14: which obviously, you know, showed some level of, uh, you know,
- 1:49:57Speaker 14: admittance of need for that position. And, and Greg started
- 1:50:00Speaker 14: a lot of games, uh, in his career. Um, have
- 1:50:02Speaker 14: some background with Greg. We signed Greg when I was
- 1:50:04Speaker 14: in Green Bay in 2012. We signed him during training
- 1:50:08Speaker 14: camp for the first time and he ended up making
- 1:50:09Speaker 14: the team. So, you know, that kind of goes to
- 1:50:11Speaker 14: show what kind of intelligence and ability that he has.
- 1:50:15Speaker 14: And I think he showed that again yesterday when, you know,
- 1:50:17Speaker 14: he took two snaps at center, then two snaps at
- 1:50:20Speaker 14: left guard and two snaps at right guard in the
- 1:50:22Speaker 14: same period in his first practice.
- 1:50:24Speaker 18: With the team, really.
- 1:50:25Speaker 14: So, you know, We have some rookie tackles that we like,
- 1:50:30Speaker 14: and James Hudson and some of these guys that are
- 1:50:33Speaker 14: battling on the second team.
- 1:50:34Speaker 18: So, yeah, we're excited about the group.
- 1:50:36Speaker 14: And does that mean if there's an opportunity to supplement
- 1:50:39Speaker 14: that group, that we'll take it?
- 1:50:41Speaker 11: When it comes to Jalen Reed's role in year one,
- 1:50:43Speaker 11: do you see him as being primarily a special team
- 1:50:45Speaker 11: or in-depth player, or do you think he could maybe
- 1:50:47Speaker 11: contribute in the slot or somewhere in the defensive backfield?
- 1:50:50Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean, we'll have to see.
- 1:50:52Speaker 14: That'll kind of be up to him at this point,
- 1:50:53Speaker 14: coming in, learning the system. He's supposed to be really smart,
- 1:50:57Speaker 14: so we'll see if our reports on that are true.
- 1:51:00Speaker 14: But talking to him this morning, he's really eager and
- 1:51:02Speaker 14: excited to be here and has pledged to be more
- 1:51:06Speaker 14: violent on special teams.
- 1:51:07Speaker 23: What have you taken from Christian being out there throughout
- 1:51:12Speaker 23: camp practicing with his teammates?
- 1:51:14Speaker 18: Christian Gonzalez.
- 1:51:16Speaker 14: He's been great. He came back yesterday and looked like
- 1:51:21Speaker 14: he hadn't missed a beat. He had some productive one-on-one reps,
- 1:51:25Speaker 14: and then he was making plays in the red zone.
- 1:51:28Speaker 18: Again, he's a competitor. He's talented.
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: He's elite.
- 1:51:33Speaker 24: Again, hopefully we can get something done there. You guys
- 1:51:37Speaker 24: have offered to make Christian the highest paid corner ever.
- 1:51:40Speaker 24: Is that still true a month later?
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:51:47Speaker 29: Obviously, there's a lot of planning ahead when you look
- 1:51:49Speaker 29: at a deal like the one potentially for Christian here.
- 1:51:52Speaker 29: A year from now, Drake will be eligible to sign
- 1:51:54Speaker 29: a new contract. How much does planning for a new
- 1:51:58Speaker 29: deal for Drake impact how you consider a new deal
- 1:52:02Speaker 29: for Christian now?
- 1:52:04Speaker 14: You know, it's about a cash budget and things like that,
- 1:52:08Speaker 14: so we're very aware of the timing of these things,
- 1:52:11Speaker 14: and we're cognizant of having a plan for that and
- 1:52:14Speaker 14: working with the Jonathan and Robert, thankful for their support.
- 1:52:17Speaker 14: They're open and willing for us to be able to
- 1:52:20Speaker 14: sign these great players.
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: Thank you. All right, that's Elliot Wolfe. Interesting. Paul, I
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: wouldn't be discouraged if I were you on your legal
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: seafood fresh take.
- 1:52:35Speaker 7: I would say so far, my fresh take is..
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: Didn't take until the end of the show before it
- 1:52:40Speaker 6: got proven wrong for now, but I agree with you.
- 1:52:43Speaker 7: I think there's at least some optimism.
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: No, they're talking. Momentum.
- 1:52:46Speaker 9: Momentum.
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: If they were at a complete stalemate and they weren't talking,
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: I don't even think he would have come out to
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: the podium. But the fact that he says we're working
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: with his representation, I think there's just a couple things
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: that are probably, there's hang-ups, and they're probably trying to
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: get through those. So I wouldn't be too discouraged, Paul.
- 1:53:07Speaker 7: I don't think it's as close as I thought it was.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: I'll just say that. All right.
- 1:53:11Speaker 5: Well, you thought it was done, so I guess it wasn't.
- 1:53:15Speaker 7: I have to be honest.
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: I thought him going back to prep, when Mike Vrabel yesterday,
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: before we went out to practice, said that he was
- 1:53:22Speaker 6: hopeful that he would be at practice this week, I
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: thought that.
- 1:53:26Speaker 7: Was kind of like, here we go.
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: Christian's pretty happy with where everything is. He's ready to
- 1:53:33Speaker 6: come back to practice. This is pretty much done. It's
- 1:53:36Speaker 6: a done deal.
- 1:53:38Speaker 7: Maybe that's what it is.
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: But I'm less confident in that take than I was
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: before Elliott spoke.
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: Yeah, because now Christian's going to have to get up
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: and do the same dance, and Ryan Cowan's going to
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: have to get up and do the same dance, and
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: maybe shortly thereafter in the next coming days, then it's
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: all going to change. So I just stay where I'm at.
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: I hope it gets done before the week leading into Seattle.
- 1:53:59Speaker 9: Yeah, I guess the general... momentum and we're working with
- 1:54:05Speaker 9: the representation and we know where each other's sides are at.
- 1:54:08Speaker 9: And like, those are some.
- 1:54:10Speaker 7: Positive phrases, but also a lot of buzzwords.
- 1:54:13Speaker 14: Oh yeah.
- 1:54:14Speaker 9: I'm also reading a lot into some positivity, hoping that
- 1:54:18Speaker 9: it is what it sounds like. But I still come
- 1:54:21Speaker 9: back to like, if they were worlds apart, I just
- 1:54:25Speaker 9: don't know if he'd be practicing. Like, I feel like
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: that's his only leverage is to hold out a practice.
- 1:54:29Speaker 9: And so if they were, and he hasn't been practicing
- 1:54:32Speaker 9: to be fair, but you know, if it, if they
- 1:54:34Speaker 9: were worlds apart, I don't think he would have practiced
- 1:54:36Speaker 9: at all this summer. And the fact that he has
- 1:54:38Speaker 9: been practicing at least a little bit, I think tells
- 1:54:40Speaker 9: you that there's, it's not like it hasn't gone bad yet.
- 1:54:44Speaker 9: You know, I still felt like that.
- 1:54:46Speaker 5: I felt like that from minute one when he got
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: out there, but like at a certain point, it's like, okay, well,
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: Let's get it done.
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: Put yourself in the shoes of Elliot Wolfe. Let's just
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: say it's one thing that's really holding this up. But
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: both sides are really determined to get their way. He
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: can't come out and say, yeah, we're really close. He's
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: got to come out like, yeah, we're just negotiating. Because
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: he doesn't want to give the other side an idea
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: that we're about to cave. So it could be anything.
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: I'm just a little concerned that you have it. There
- 1:55:16Speaker 6: is something that both sides are very adamant about. Yeah. So, yeah,
- 1:55:20Speaker 6: I mean, we're willing to pay you X amount of
- 1:55:22Speaker 6: dollars over X amount of years and have X amount
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: of it guaranteed. But there's an element that one side
- 1:55:28Speaker 6: wants that the other side is not willing to give.
- 1:55:30Speaker 7: So you're not a starter.
- 1:55:31Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: Well, if it's just one thing, I think you might be.
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: I think if you get the general framework, but then
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: there's some details about when and, you know, then I
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: think you you'll get it done.
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:55:43Speaker 10: I mean, I feel like. It's just when the money
- 1:55:46Speaker 10: comes in.
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: Like, they probably have a number, but it's like how
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: much comes in this year, how much is guaranteed.
- 1:55:52Speaker 10: You know, those are the..
- 1:55:53Speaker 7: I'm feeling like guarantees are an issue.
- 1:55:55Speaker 9: I feel like that's the money thing there, Deuce. It's like,
- 1:55:59Speaker 9: is it year four and five that he's getting the bag,
- 1:56:02Speaker 9: or is it year six and seven that he's getting
- 1:56:03Speaker 9: the bag? And, like, when does that money, you know,
- 1:56:06Speaker 9: actually hit the bank account? You know, and that's... That
- 1:56:11Speaker 9: can be difficult with these types of contracts because not
- 1:56:13Speaker 9: every team will just give it to you up front.
- 1:56:15Speaker 9: A lot of teams make you earn it on an escalator,
- 1:56:18Speaker 9: and you have to earn it throughout the life.
- 1:56:19Speaker 2: Of the contract. Well, even the Witherspoon deal is kind
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: of structured in such a way.
- 1:56:24Speaker 9: Well, Witherspoon got the bag, though. He got two for
- 1:56:28Speaker 9: 59 right out of the chute, which is like that's
- 1:56:30Speaker 9: the real money. That's the number that we're really talking
- 1:56:33Speaker 9: about here. And I don't know if the Patriots are
- 1:56:35Speaker 9: at two for 59.
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: But, you know, like when it first comes out, oh,
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: he's getting $ 100 million guaranteed. And he will if he plays.
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: He will get that.
- 1:56:43Speaker 9: Or guaranteed for injury.
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: Right. Yeah.
- 1:56:45Speaker 15: Right.
- 1:56:45Speaker 6: Which is why my definition of the word guarantee is
- 1:56:48Speaker 6: vastly different than a lot of people who cover football
- 1:56:50Speaker 6: for a living.
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:56:51Speaker 6: My guarantee is no matter what happens, if he gets
- 1:56:53Speaker 6: cut tomorrow, he gets that number.
- 1:56:55Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:56:55Speaker 9: And that's the two for 59 number.
- 1:56:57Speaker 7: Correct.
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:56:57Speaker 7: 59 he got.
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: 59.
- 1:56:59Speaker 7: Which was a big jump over what McDuffie got, 50.
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:57:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:57:02Speaker 7: So that, I mean, to Evan's point, he kind of
- 1:57:04Speaker 7: got the bag. That's a pretty good sizable.
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: I don't think any of us would.
- 1:57:08Speaker 6: No, but I mean, 9 million more guaranteed than the
- 1:57:11Speaker 6: next closest guy, I think is a reasonably significant gap.
- 1:57:15Speaker 9: And the framework of when it gets paid. Like, it's
- 1:57:17Speaker 9: not like he's waiting until. the fifth and sixth year
- 1:57:20Speaker 9: of the contract is he got a raise this year
- 1:57:23Speaker 9: from Seattle to get real market value money in the
- 1:57:27Speaker 9: fourth year of his rookie contract. So that's always the
- 1:57:29Speaker 9: big one. Cause teams are like, well, we have team control.
- 1:57:31Speaker 9: Like we have the fourth year, the fifth year option,
- 1:57:34Speaker 9: the franchise tag. Like why are we going to concede
- 1:57:36Speaker 9: the money up front? And the player obviously wants the
- 1:57:39Speaker 9: money up front. Just give me my money.
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: Dolly Parton died.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: Oh, really? She wasn't doing too well.
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: 80 years old.
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:57:47Speaker 5: Music legend.
- 1:57:48Speaker 9: Don't like that.
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: R.I.P.
- 1:57:50Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: One of the greats.
- 1:57:52Speaker 9: She was at Thanksgiving or something last year.
- 1:57:56Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:57:56Speaker 9: Still brought it.
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, we're up. Thank you for making us abreast
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: of that news.
- 1:58:02Speaker 10: Well, we've been talking about booty all day, so I
- 1:58:03Speaker 10: figured we'd round it out.
- 1:58:04Speaker 7: Still is a Belichick line. We were abreast of that.
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: Do you remember that?
- 1:58:09Speaker 6: No.
- 1:58:10Speaker 7: It was after the Janet Jackson thing in the Super Bowl.
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 1:58:13Speaker 7: Yeah, he was on Letterman.
- 1:58:17Speaker 6: You know that smile that he used to have when
- 1:58:19Speaker 6: he was really happy with himself, which is pretty much always.
- 1:58:22Speaker 9: That's such a Bill joke.
- 1:58:24Speaker 7: We were abreast of that.
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: Hey! And then everyone just fell out of their chairs.
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: Of course.
- 1:58:30Speaker 7: And then they wrote op-ed pieces about how wonderfully creative
- 1:58:33Speaker 7: he was.
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: All right. That's going to be it for this edition
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: of Patriots Unfiltered. You already had Catch-22. If you missed it,
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: you can catch it on the rebound. Okay. So, tomorrow, nothing. Nothing.
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: Team is traveling to Cleveland. On Thursday, pre- and post-game show. 645.
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: The award-winning pre- and post-game show with Jack Webb and
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: Troy Brown.
- 1:59:01Speaker 7: What was that?
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: I have to say. I gave it an award.
- 1:59:04Speaker 9: I'm not even blowing smoke.
- 1:59:05Speaker 6: Do you still hear the insistence of the disrespect?
- 1:59:10Speaker 7: The pre- and post-game show with Jack Webb and Troy Brown.
- 1:59:14Speaker 9: I thought it was really good.
- 1:59:14Speaker 7: I'm the show. I allow Mike to be on with me.
- 1:59:18Speaker 5: And you credit two newcomers, two noobs.
- 1:59:21Speaker 10: They dramatically changed it and made it.
