- 0:01Speaker 1: Live on Sky News.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is Sharry Good Evening.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Another big show tonight. The shock decision to hold off
- 0:11Speaker 3: a rate cut, Why the RBA governor insists it's not
- 0:15Speaker 3: a betrayal of homeowners. Devastating stories emerged from the flooding
- 0:19Speaker 3: disaster in Texas. Will cross live to a reporter on
- 0:23Speaker 3: the ground later this hour, Plus the mushroom murderer, Aaron
- 0:27Speaker 3: Patterson's a radic past revealed and the photographs of her
- 0:32Speaker 3: that the ABC was reluctant to publish. Israel nominates Donald
- 0:36Speaker 3: Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. I'll ask Michaylia Cash
- 0:40Speaker 3: if she thinks Trump is a deserving nominee. Shortly and
- 0:44Speaker 3: three are charged over the storming of a Melbourne restaurant.
- 0:48Speaker 3: The Israeli Ambassador Emir Maimond would join me tonight for
- 0:51Speaker 3: an exclusive interview. That's all coming up, but first tonight.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Anthony Albinezi today confirmed he'll visit China this Saturday. This
- 1:02Speaker 3: is truly astonishing that he's about to meet Chinese President
- 1:06Speaker 3: she for the fourth time, while he still hasn't managed
- 1:10Speaker 3: to secure a single meeting with the US president.
- 1:14Speaker 2: The pair, in fact have never met.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Despite Trump winning the election on November fourth, eight months ago.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Eight months here was ALBINIZI please, there's punch to announce
- 1:26Speaker 3: he's visiting China on Saturday.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I look forward to going to Shanghai, Beijing and Qingdu,
- 1:34Speaker 4: which I will visit from Saturday. China is an important
- 1:39Speaker 4: trading partner for Australia. Twenty five percent of our exports
- 1:43Speaker 4: go to China.
- 1:46Speaker 2: This is deeply worrying.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Let's not forget China's aggressive treatment of Australia over the
- 1:51Speaker 3: past decade. It's taken foreign interference and espionage to new levels.
- 1:57Speaker 3: It's repeatedly try to interfere in our political system, our democracy,
- 2:03Speaker 3: with covert influence operations launched to infiltrate our parliament. It's
- 2:08Speaker 3: something ASIO Director General Mike Burgess has spoken about at length.
- 2:13Speaker 3: There've been aggressive actions as well towards our military. This
- 2:16Speaker 3: includes Australian Navy divers sustaining minor injuries after a sonar
- 2:22Speaker 3: attack from a Chinese warship. The incident took place while
- 2:26Speaker 3: Albanzi was at Apec, but the Prime Minister didn't bother
- 2:32Speaker 3: to raise it with she, as you can see in
- 2:34Speaker 3: this footage. Instead, there was a warm greeting the government
- 2:39Speaker 3: didn't even make the incident public at all until after
- 2:43Speaker 3: that meeting.
- 2:44Speaker 5: He had an opportunity last week at APEC to raise
- 2:48Speaker 5: this very significant incident with Jijingping, and it turns out, well,
- 2:53Speaker 5: it appears that he did not, And so now we
- 2:57Speaker 5: have the Chinese government deflicting and indeed you could say
- 3:01Speaker 5: gas lighting us.
- 3:03Speaker 3: In another incident, China also dropped flares dangerously close to
- 3:07Speaker 3: an Australian patrol flight. And then, of course there was
- 3:11Speaker 3: more recently China's live fire military exercises off the Tasman Sea.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Now at its worst this could have downed an Australian flight.
- 3:22Speaker 3: No notice was given, despite Albanesi initially defending the communist
- 3:27Speaker 3: state by claiming China had provided advance warning.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Well, it had it, as it turned out, and it was.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Left to a virgin pilot to tell authorities what was
- 3:38Speaker 3: going on. Then there was the Chinese dual purpose research
- 3:41Speaker 3: vessel circumnavigating our southern coast at the start of the
- 3:45Speaker 3: election campaign, and going back further, China slapped coercive trade
- 3:50Speaker 3: tariffs on Australia in response for the very sensible demand,
- 3:55Speaker 3: obvious demand that there should be an independent inquiry into
- 3:59Speaker 3: the origin of the pandemic, an inquiry that never happened. Now,
- 4:06Speaker 3: Albanezi can barely bring himself to criticize Beijing, yet he's
- 4:10Speaker 3: got no qualm speaking in a demeaning fashion about both
- 4:14Speaker 3: the United States and our other allies like Israel. Foreign
- 4:20Speaker 3: editor The Australian Greg Sheridan makes this point. He says,
- 4:23Speaker 3: it's worth noting that as the PM prepares for his
- 4:26Speaker 3: fourth meeting with She but apparently won't go to Washington
- 4:30Speaker 3: to meet Donald Trump, he's now making strategic speeches more
- 4:34Speaker 3: welcome in Beijing than in Washington, and the Prime Minister
- 4:39Speaker 3: seems to find every excuse for China's intimidation of our country.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yet, make no mistake.
- 4:47Speaker 3: The threat China posers is the very reason we need
- 4:51Speaker 3: a strong military. It's the very reason we need a
- 4:55Speaker 3: strong relationship with the United States. We don't have the
- 4:59Speaker 3: defense capability to defend ourselves. We'd have to rely on
- 5:03Speaker 3: the goodwill of the President of the day and our
- 5:06Speaker 3: long standing alliance with the United States, an alliance that
- 5:12Speaker 3: is at its rockiest moment in fifty years. Ever since
- 5:17Speaker 3: the Battle of the Coral Sea, Australia and America have
- 5:21Speaker 3: stood side by side, but now Albanezi risks it all
- 5:26Speaker 3: as he coses up to Beijing and refuses to cooperate
- 5:29Speaker 3: with the United States on defense spending. I want to
- 5:37Speaker 3: turn now to the devastating flash flooding in Texas that's
- 5:41Speaker 3: taken away so many beautiful young lives. In the early
- 5:45Speaker 3: hours of Friday morning, a month's worth of rain poured
- 5:49Speaker 3: down on Texas hill country. The Guadalupa River rose twenty
- 5:54Speaker 3: meters in a matter of minutes. It was swift and
- 5:59Speaker 3: it was merciless. A Christian girls camp, camp Mysstic, was
- 6:04Speaker 3: the worst hit. This haunting photograph shows thirteen girls and
- 6:09Speaker 3: two counselors who were staying in a cabin near the river.
- 6:13Speaker 3: You can see their beautiful smiles as they began their
- 6:18Speaker 3: summer camp. But five days after that photograph was taken,
- 6:23Speaker 3: all of those girls, including the two counselors, were swept away.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Ten of their bodies have been recovered and three are
- 6:32Speaker 3: still missing.
- 6:35Speaker 6: In the morning, they gathered all the counselors who were
- 6:38Speaker 6: at Cypress Lake and they told us that two of
- 6:42Speaker 6: sorry two of the cabins with the seven year old
- 6:46Speaker 6: girls wiped away, and that all these girls were missing.
- 6:53Speaker 3: The aftermath is now a devastating scene of colorful backpacks, pink.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Toys, and right clothes.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Parents grappling with the unbearable reality that their little.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Girls will never return home.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Children who survived the flood sang as they were sadly evacuated.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Amid those devastating scenes of wreckage, sprayse.
- 7:21Speaker 7: God, I want my world to know the Lord over
- 7:26Speaker 7: has come to me.
- 7:27Speaker 6: I want to pass the scion.
- 7:37Speaker 3: In total, one hundred people have been confirmed dead in
- 7:40Speaker 3: the flash flooding, but this is likely to still rise,
- 7:43Speaker 3: with dozens unaccounted for. Divers, helicopters, and even drones are
- 7:50Speaker 3: being used in the desperate search for survivors. One forty
- 7:55Speaker 3: five year old dad has told of trying to kayak
- 7:59Speaker 3: to reach his daughters and his parents, who were staying
- 8:02Speaker 3: in a different cabin closer to the river, but he
- 8:05Speaker 3: said his kayak was knocked against a post.
- 8:08Speaker 2: He said if he.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Went any further it would have been a death sentence.
- 8:12Speaker 3: His daughters and father were killed, and his mother's body
- 8:16Speaker 3: is still missing. One family was camping when the rains
- 8:21Speaker 3: grew heavy. A mother of four, Amanda, tells how her
- 8:25Speaker 3: husband was monitoring the river, and he made, in hindsight,
- 8:29Speaker 3: the very lucky decision to evacuate in the middle of
- 8:32Speaker 3: the night, and.
- 8:34Speaker 8: Once the water kind of started coming over the bank,
- 8:37Speaker 8: is when he came in and said, we need to
- 8:39Speaker 8: go now.
- 8:40Speaker 2: And it was just.
- 8:42Speaker 8: The whole family just immediately went into let's just get
- 8:45Speaker 8: out of here. One of my sons grabbed all the.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Dogs from higher ground.
- 8:51Speaker 3: The family heard the devastation and chaos, the screams as
- 8:57Speaker 3: the river rushed in.
- 9:00Speaker 8: The sound of the campers and cabins just crushing against
- 9:04Speaker 8: each other. That was the first of it, and that's
- 9:08Speaker 8: what caught our attention. So I immediately went to our staff,
- 9:12Speaker 8: went through all our belongings, found PFDs life jackets for
- 9:16Speaker 8: all the children and said, you know, put this on.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And now.
- 9:20Speaker 3: The survivor told of how he and his wife went
- 9:23Speaker 3: with the current until they clung onto a tree and
- 9:27Speaker 3: waited for help.
- 9:29Speaker 9: Things were getting dice here by the moment. We couldn't
- 9:31Speaker 9: tell if the water is going to continue to rise,
- 9:33Speaker 9: so I said, we need to get out of the house.
- 9:36Speaker 9: So I grabbed my wife and we literally jumped in
- 9:39Speaker 9: the water, and it swept us down to about two
- 9:43Speaker 9: hundred feet down that way, and there was a great
- 9:45Speaker 9: murle tree that we grabbed hold of and we waited
- 9:48Speaker 9: for rescue.
- 9:50Speaker 3: The question is how could this happen in America, of
- 9:53Speaker 3: all places with supposedly first world emergency response systems. There
- 10:00Speaker 3: was one warning on Thursday at one eighteen pm that
- 10:04Speaker 3: heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding across counties, but the
- 10:08Speaker 3: forecasters only predicted three to seven inches of rain. Another
- 10:14Speaker 3: warning at six' ten pm said flash flooding was likely
- 10:18Speaker 3: Across Central texas, overnight but the most urgent awnings warnings
- 10:24Speaker 3: came when everyone was, asleep from one am. Onwards it
- 10:27Speaker 3: was a warning at three am of catastrophic potential loss
- 10:32Speaker 3: of life and a flash flood emergency for the. Region
- 10:35Speaker 3: that was the most, Crucial but three, am of, course
- 10:39Speaker 3: was too, little too. Late there were no serious advanced
- 10:43Speaker 3: warnings or orders to evacuate from, authorities and even at
- 10:47Speaker 3: one am there were no external warning sirens that rang.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Out already at that, time The Guadalupa river had reached
- 10:54Speaker 3: a flooding stage Near Camp. Mystic the worst impact was
- 10:58Speaker 3: between four am, am when survivors described a raging torrent
- 11:05Speaker 3: coming in and it's clear to see in the pictures
- 11:09Speaker 3: that utter. Devastation caverns and other buildings completely, destroyed trees
- 11:16Speaker 3: and cars floated, downstream debris. Everywhere one survivor described how
- 11:24Speaker 3: cars were floating past with people inside yelling for, help
- 11:29Speaker 3: help that would never. Come one survivor said it was pitch,
- 11:33Speaker 3: black so all you see was the lights floating and
- 11:37Speaker 3: people screaming and banging against the window and. Honking but
- 11:44Speaker 3: there were other young lives. Saved about seven miles From Camp,
- 11:48Speaker 3: mystic there was an employee at The presbyterian Mo Ranch
- 11:52Speaker 3: assembly who noticed the rising water levels and managed to
- 11:56Speaker 3: evacuate seventy children and their chaperones between two thirty am
- 12:02Speaker 3: and four. Am she managed to move them to higher
- 12:05Speaker 3: ground and saved all of their. Lives for the families
- 12:09Speaker 3: of over one hundred, people many children weren't so. Lucky
- 12:14Speaker 3: Evacuation systems and warning sirens that should have been in,
- 12:17Speaker 3: place given the area is prone to flash, flooding just weren't.
- 12:23Speaker 3: There the last major flooding of The guadaloupa was in
- 12:26Speaker 3: nineteen eighty seven and it killed.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Ten teenagers who were attending a church.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Camp so this has happened, before and there was a
- 12:34Speaker 3: similar flood that destroyed cottages in nineteen thirty. Two there,
- 12:38Speaker 3: will of, course now no, doubt be inquiries and investigations
- 12:42Speaker 3: and accountability and answers are. Needed but this won't bring
- 12:46Speaker 3: any relief to the heartbroken parents who sent, happy, smiling
- 12:51Speaker 3: healthy children off to summer, camp only to have now
- 12:55Speaker 3: lost them. Forever they're now facing the cruel and unth
- 13:00Speaker 3: thinkable reality of their world's shattered by the pain of
- 13:04Speaker 3: losing their precious. Children And i'll be crossing live To
- 13:13Speaker 3: Central texas for more on the devastating floods later this,
- 13:17Speaker 3: hour but first let's get into the day's top. Stories
- 13:21Speaker 3: there's a lot going on, today and joining me tonight
- 13:23Speaker 3: is Former speaker of The House Bronwan bishop and A
- 13:25Speaker 3: Dony media Founder.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Lisa, gottaitt and good to see you both.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Now in a shock, move THE rba has kept interest
- 13:33Speaker 3: rates on hold at three point eighty five percent, today
- 13:36Speaker 3: which has denied mortgage relief for millions Of. Australians and
- 13:40Speaker 3: here was THE Rba Governor Michelle, bullock defending this decision this.
- 13:44Speaker 10: Afternoon decision today was about was about timing rather than.
- 13:51Speaker 10: Direction AND i Think i've made this point in the,
- 13:56Speaker 10: past but our full cast guidess and, yes they get
- 14:00Speaker 10: more uncertain the further we go, out but at least
- 14:03Speaker 10: in the near, term what we're looking for is confirmation
- 14:07Speaker 10: that we are basically on our full cast.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Path, now the decision to hold was not. Unanimous some
- 14:13Speaker 3: of the board members wanted a, cut But Michelle bullock
- 14:17Speaker 3: argues it would have been a betrayal.
- 14:19Speaker 2: If she'd let inflation get out of.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Hand So, brunman what we're looking at here is families
- 14:25Speaker 3: who are continue who continue to grapple with the cost
- 14:28Speaker 3: of living. Crisis THE rba says inflation isn't yet under.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Control do you think they made the right decision to hold?
- 14:36Speaker 11: Today, WELL i think there's another point where you have
- 14:39Speaker 11: to discuss the fact that for the first time we've
- 14:42Speaker 11: seen as a split in the board making the, decision
- 14:46Speaker 11: AND i think that weakens confidence in The Reserve bank
- 14:50Speaker 11: because it shows it's not a. Certainty it makes it less.
- 14:55Speaker 11: Certain could be, right could be wrong is how people
- 14:58Speaker 11: will see. It and angry because everybody was telling them
- 15:02Speaker 11: there's going to be a, cut and people with mortgages
- 15:06Speaker 11: and people who are renting are affected by that as.
- 15:08Speaker 11: Well just didn't. Happen SO i think there's a worry
- 15:14Speaker 11: the way the new board is, constructed and this discussion
- 15:18Speaker 11: and that very fierce press conference, afterwards everybody was, saying,
- 15:22Speaker 11: well how did you? Vote how did The secretary of
- 15:25Speaker 11: The treasury? Vote who was wanting to bring them? Down
- 15:30Speaker 11: SO i think they've created a big problem for. Themselves
- 15:33Speaker 11: and then of course you had the treasurers, say, oh,
- 15:36Speaker 11: WELL i don't comment on what they, do they're. Independent
- 15:41Speaker 11: then of course he sends out The Australia institute to
- 15:44Speaker 11: speak for The Labor party and attack the judgment of
- 15:47Speaker 11: the of the. Decision SO i think it was a
- 15:51Speaker 11: very unsatisfactory. DAY i think a lot of people will
- 15:54Speaker 11: continue to. HURT i think waiting for the quarter figures
- 16:00Speaker 11: seems to be the basis of the decision could be
- 16:04Speaker 11: seen to be super. Cautious but my main concern is
- 16:08Speaker 11: that now When Michelle, bullock despite the FACT i think
- 16:12Speaker 11: she's very, GOOD i think they are now less regarded
- 16:17Speaker 11: as giving good judgment because there's obviously.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Splits, yeah, indeed when it's not, unanimous you, know you wonder.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Like viage was. Right.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Now the issue as, well, is of course the political
- 16:31Speaker 3: reaction to this had there been a rate, cut where
- 16:33Speaker 3: Likely lisa would have seen The Albert easy government out
- 16:36Speaker 3: claiming credit for, it no.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Doubt but yet when.
- 16:39Speaker 3: There's, Not oh it's because of global, uncertainty which, yes
- 16:43Speaker 3: of course does play a, factor but this is how
- 16:46Speaker 3: it will play.
- 16:47Speaker 12: Out, yeah so you're exactly. Right and to pick up
- 16:51Speaker 12: further On broman's, point you're talking about the changes with THE.
- 16:54Speaker 12: Rba this was all meant to be about, transparency AND
- 16:56Speaker 12: i think you're, Right. BRODWIN i think you're going to
- 16:58Speaker 12: have Average australians now who are sitting home trying to
- 17:00Speaker 12: do their household budgets looking at those, figures and there'll
- 17:03Speaker 12: be a witch hunt, now or at least the chase
- 17:05Speaker 12: on to try to understand exactly who was for it
- 17:07Speaker 12: and who was against it and what were those driving factors.
- 17:10Speaker 12: There and you're, right it will put doubt and questions
- 17:12Speaker 12: around the confidence that we have in THE rba moving,
- 17:14Speaker 12: forward because, tonight as we sit, here there are families
- 17:17Speaker 12: at home now working out how can we afford that
- 17:19Speaker 12: next carton of, eggs how can we afford that next
- 17:21Speaker 12: life of? Bread and to Watch Jim charmers today very
- 17:25Speaker 12: much if he had announced AN rba interest rate cut.
- 17:28Speaker 12: Today he would have been out there. Gloating he would
- 17:30Speaker 12: have been claiming it as a victory for the labor.
- 17:32Speaker 12: Government this is very, MUCH i think a judgment call
- 17:34Speaker 12: on how labor is running this.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Economy, indeed, well.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Let's return to the guilty verdict of mushroom Murderer Aaron.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Patterson and she spent.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Her first four day in jail, today this after she
- 17:46Speaker 3: was found guilty of three counts of. Murder, now since the,
- 17:49Speaker 3: verdict parts of her checkered past have been. Revealed The
- 17:53Speaker 3: Australian today reporting That Aaron patterson abruptly left her job
- 17:56Speaker 3: as an air traffic controller amid concerns about her behavior
- 18:01Speaker 3: and treatment of. Colleagues and this is according to a
- 18:04Speaker 3: former staff Member Roman what else can? You what else
- 18:08Speaker 3: have we now learned About Aaron? Patterson now that the
- 18:11Speaker 3: media are free to publish stories about her, past they
- 18:14Speaker 3: wouldn't be in contempt of.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Court, Now, well.
- 18:18Speaker 11: The trouble with this whole case is it's become an
- 18:21Speaker 11: international phenomenon and there are going to be people wanting
- 18:24Speaker 11: to make money out of. It they are going to
- 18:26Speaker 11: be offers being made to the former. Husband they are
- 18:28Speaker 11: going to be offers made to the survivor of the attempted,
- 18:32Speaker 11: murder and we're going to hear all sorts of people
- 18:35Speaker 11: coming forward and, saying, WELL i knew, her AND i
- 18:37Speaker 11: think she was a, enoughcase OR i knew this she
- 18:40Speaker 11: was came in with wearing the same clothes all the.
- 18:42Speaker 2: TIME i thought that was a very curious.
- 18:44Speaker 11: Comment SO i don't think we've seen the end of
- 18:48Speaker 11: this for a long long. Time but when you heard
- 18:50Speaker 11: the doctor come out and make, COMMENTS i thought that
- 18:53Speaker 11: was quite. Dramatic BUT i think there's going to be,
- 18:57Speaker 11: many many people coming out making more and more comments
- 19:00Speaker 11: because it is such a bizarre.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Case it really.
- 19:04Speaker 11: Is it is quite beyond the sheer thinking about going
- 19:12Speaker 11: to pick those motions toadstools is what they, are and
- 19:15Speaker 11: to put them into a Berth, wellington which was a
- 19:18Speaker 11: very Popular edish in the. Eighties IF i recall and
- 19:23Speaker 11: set out to actually give them a painful, death it's.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Pretty, horrendous it really. Is it really, is and.
- 19:28Speaker 11: That's WHY i think there are going to be lots
- 19:31Speaker 11: and lots of people sought to give more and more
- 19:32Speaker 11: opinions to try and see what it is that brought
- 19:35Speaker 11: about this serial, killer.
- 19:37Speaker 3: AND i just feel sorry for her children as. Well
- 19:39Speaker 3: they'd be doing with so.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Much for the other. Children but what about.
- 19:43Speaker 3: This you would have seen the photographs Of Aaron patterson
- 19:47Speaker 3: that were taking yesterday on the front page of the papers. Today,
- 19:50Speaker 3: well THE, abc it turns, out considered not publishing these
- 19:54Speaker 3: unflattering images of the convicted mushroom killer because THE abc
- 19:59Speaker 3: was concerned about her privacy and.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Distress this is.
- 20:03Speaker 3: According to internal staff emails obtained By Steve jackson At The.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Australian so THE abc is worried about the privacy of
- 20:12Speaker 3: a convicted triple. Murderer NOW i understound these photographs cuss
- 20:17Speaker 3: around ten thousand dollars and many media outlets did pay
- 20:20Speaker 3: that amount of. Money we didn't At, Sky but it
- 20:24Speaker 3: wasn't because of the privacy of a. KILLER i mean
- 20:28Speaker 3: that was the ABC's, concern which is utterly, Bizarre.
- 20:32Speaker 12: Lisa THE abc has suddenly grown a conscience about what
- 20:37Speaker 12: it wants to show and what it doesn't and to
- 20:39Speaker 12: describe them as, unflattering that's not enough to say in
- 20:41Speaker 12: an editorial, decision we are not going to run these.
- 20:44Speaker 12: Photos as you, say she's now a convicted, murderer serial
- 20:47Speaker 12: killer if you like what you used the fact that
- 20:50Speaker 12: there was conversations inside THE abc to, say we've used
- 20:53Speaker 12: taxpayer funded money buy these, images but now we are
- 20:56Speaker 12: not sure as to whether we can whether it was
- 21:00Speaker 12: stand the public interest argument or. NOT i just think
- 21:03Speaker 12: that they're sitting on a moral high horse that they
- 21:05Speaker 12: don't normally sit on at all if you look at
- 21:06Speaker 12: any of the graphic images that they quite happily put
- 21:09Speaker 12: out there on many other. Stories on this one they
- 21:12Speaker 12: suddenly tried to, say, well we're going to be holier
- 21:14Speaker 12: than now and not run. THEM i don't think that's
- 21:16Speaker 12: the right thing to. DO i understand the conversation needs
- 21:18Speaker 12: to be, had And, sharry you would have been in
- 21:20Speaker 12: newsrooms where these conversations have. Had but she's a convicted.
- 21:23Speaker 12: Murderer the public has a right to see, IT i think.
- 21:26Speaker 3: EXACTLY i mean worried about protecting the privacy of a
- 21:29Speaker 3: triple murderer WHEN i mean when THE abc has, acted
- 21:33Speaker 3: in my, view in such a morally corrupt fashion when
- 21:36Speaker 3: it comes TO i, mean they used to cover the
- 21:39Speaker 3: anti samitism crisis for a very long.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Time now they.
- 21:42Speaker 11: Are BUT i Mentioned Heston, russell what they did to him,
- 21:46Speaker 11: exactly absolutely lied about him and had to pay. Damages
- 21:51Speaker 11: and you're quite right the coverage of the anti Semitism, yes, indeed,
- 21:55Speaker 11: yes indeed you're quite.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Right before well added the gunshots that absolutely, Yes so
- 22:00Speaker 3: if you but the point you made about the way
- 22:03Speaker 3: they covered the Anti semitism, issue it's just been.
- 22:05Speaker 11: Appalling so it just shows what a mess they're.
- 22:08Speaker 2: IN i, mean if.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Really watching THE, abc you would be shocked to hear
- 22:11Speaker 3: That trump might get A nobel peace.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Price but it's happening well.
- 22:15Speaker 11: Quite, FRANKLY i think that was a brillant suggestion of
- 22:19Speaker 11: The Israeli Prime minister to Nominate. Trump when you look
- 22:23Speaker 11: at the work that he did with The Abraham, accords
- 22:26Speaker 11: when you look at the sheikhs who are now saying
- 22:28Speaker 11: that they would like to be part of The Abraham,
- 22:30Speaker 11: accord they're looking for. PEACE i think he deserves it
- 22:34Speaker 11: when you think That obama got it for turning.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Up, ye, exactly just for Being.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Obama, yeah, Indeed And i'm about to speak To Mikayla
- 22:41Speaker 3: cash about this very Tubbing.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Brahman Bishop Lisa, goddard great to see, You thank you
- 22:45Speaker 2: both so. Much we'll see you next.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Week all, right let's return To albaneze's announcement today that
- 22:51Speaker 3: he's jetting off To china this weekend to meet With President,
- 22:54Speaker 3: shijingping where he'll no doubt be given the royal. Treatment
- 22:58Speaker 3: AS i said, earlier this will be his fourth trip
- 23:00Speaker 3: To china since Becoming Prime minister and Joining minow's Shadow
- 23:04Speaker 3: Foreign Affairs, Minister Mikaylia.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Cash great to see, You.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Michaalea we also saw that subtle swipe From alberanizi in
- 23:12Speaker 3: Is John curtin's speech about shying away from The United.
- 23:15Speaker 3: States are you concerned That alberanizi is now jeopardizing our
- 23:20Speaker 3: relationship with our most important, ally THE?
- 23:23Speaker 13: Us, YES i am Shari and in particular when you
- 23:28Speaker 13: have noted commentators Like Greg sheridan now posing the, question
- 23:34Speaker 13: Is Anthony alberzi, intentionally for reasons only known to, himself
- 23:40Speaker 13: seeking to undermine and diminish our relationship.
- 23:45Speaker 2: With The United.
- 23:46Speaker 13: States australians should be. Worried you, know in twenty twenty
- 23:50Speaker 13: five you have, rising you know, conflict you have global
- 23:56Speaker 13: unrestd we should be as a country seeing our prime
- 24:00Speaker 13: stand up and say reaffirm that we stand with the
- 24:06Speaker 13: country The United, states who has long been a key
- 24:10Speaker 13: foundation of our, security who has been and continues to
- 24:15Speaker 13: be the leader of the free. World we should be
- 24:20Speaker 13: backing in The Australia United States, alliance and Yet Anthony,
- 24:25Speaker 13: albnizi he seems to have put it on the back.
- 24:30Speaker 13: Burner and that IS i. WORRY i, mean.
- 24:33Speaker 2: That's speech that was just.
- 24:34Speaker 13: Bizarre the speech for the curtain narration on the. WEEKEND
- 24:39Speaker 13: i mean Again Greeg SHERIDAN i saw described it as
- 24:42Speaker 13: a look away From america's.
- 24:45Speaker 2: SPEECH i mean that'd have the heads In.
- 24:47Speaker 13: Washington doesn't that be scratching them and going what is
- 24:50Speaker 13: going on With. Australia so, YES i am, concerned but
- 24:55Speaker 13: in particular in twenty twenty, five when we should be
- 24:58Speaker 13: reaffirming our relationship and The AUSTRALIA Us, alliance not putting
- 25:03Speaker 13: it on the back burner like Mister albernizi appears to have.
- 25:07Speaker 2: DONE i, agree very.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Worrying AS i just, Mentioned Donald trump met With Israeli
- 25:12Speaker 3: Prime Minister benjaminette And yahoo today And nettaya who suggested
- 25:18Speaker 3: that he said he had Nominated trump for The Nobel Peace.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Prize have a.
- 25:22Speaker 7: LOOK i want to present to you as.
- 25:25Speaker 14: President the LETTER i sent to The Normal Prize, committee
- 25:30Speaker 14: it's noment in you for The Peace, prize which is well.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Deserved this is now the second country to have Nominated.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Trump do you think he is deserving of The Nobel Peace.
- 25:42Speaker 13: Prize, well let's look at his actions under both his
- 25:47Speaker 13: former administration and the administration. TODAY i, Mean, BROMWIN i
- 25:51Speaker 13: listened THERE i just. MENTIONED i mean it was the
- 25:54Speaker 13: Former trump administration that successfully negotiated The Abraham. Accords now
- 25:59Speaker 13: that IS i see series of agreements Between israel and
- 26:03Speaker 13: Participating arab states that sought to normalize relationships that were
- 26:08Speaker 13: seen as a very positive step towards peace and. Security
- 26:13Speaker 13: but on top of, that look at his recent actions
- 26:17Speaker 13: to ensure That iran does not have nuclear. CAPABILITY i,
- 26:22Speaker 13: mean he made a decision that his military would launch
- 26:26Speaker 13: a series of precision strikes On iran's nuclear. Facilities he
- 26:30Speaker 13: is seeking to protect the world from a nuclear Armed.
- 26:35Speaker 13: Iran that is a good, Thing, shari and he should
- 26:39Speaker 13: be commended for. It but Also, SHARI i would, say
- 26:43Speaker 13: Since october, seventh twenty twenty, Three President trump and his,
- 26:48Speaker 13: administration they have been integral in the negotiations to get the,
- 26:54Speaker 13: hostages the hostages that have been kidnapped by the militant
- 27:00Speaker 13: terrorist organization HUM, us who have still not been released.
- 27:05Speaker 13: Today he has been integral in seeking to have them
- 27:10Speaker 13: returned back To. Israel so IF i look at the
- 27:14Speaker 13: actions Of President trump and his, administration those actions are
- 27:19Speaker 13: to be commended because they are taken to ensure steps
- 27:24Speaker 13: towards peace in The Middle, east which we all. Want
- 27:27Speaker 13: but more than, that in relation To, iran that is
- 27:30Speaker 13: of benefit.
- 27:31Speaker 2: To the entire global.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Community, absolutely that's something the government refuses to. Acknowledge And
- 27:38Speaker 3: i'm going to be speaking With israel's ambassador To australia.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Shortly just want to refer to the horrific antisemitism we
- 27:47Speaker 3: saw In melbourne on the weekend and specifically The abanese
- 27:50Speaker 3: government's response to, it because The Prime minister today rejected
- 27:54Speaker 3: calls to implement the fifteen point plan that was developed
- 27:58Speaker 3: through Our Sky News Anti semity.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Summit here he was Any semitism is a, scourge has
- 28:04Speaker 4: no place In. Australia let's be. Clear what people want
- 28:08Speaker 4: as not a. Meeting they want. Action they want action
- 28:11Speaker 4: is what they.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Want yet he won't implement the recommendations that The Executive
- 28:16Speaker 3: council Of Australian jury put forward developed through our. Summit
- 28:20Speaker 3: do you agree that he does need to implement those? Recommendations,
- 28:26Speaker 3: absolutely and under Both Peter dutton and Now Susan, lee
- 28:29Speaker 3: The coalition has committed to them to implement them in.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Full i'm at now at a, LOSS i say The
- 28:35Speaker 3: Prime minister in.
- 28:36Speaker 13: The, footage it's just. Platitude he could actually say what
- 28:40Speaker 13: he likes now and it just wouldn't matter because this
- 28:44Speaker 13: is a man who opens his, mouth words come, out
- 28:47Speaker 13: but then his actions betray him every single. Time i've
- 28:51Speaker 13: had a look at. Them i've had a look at.
- 28:53Speaker 13: Them I've i've got one of them. HERE i want
- 28:54Speaker 13: to read it out to, you see your, listeners me
- 28:56Speaker 13: and he's saying no To, yeah preachers and larities spreading.
- 29:01Speaker 13: Hate religious and other charitable institutions should have their charity
- 29:06Speaker 13: status and all funding revoked if they promote, racism including Anti,
- 29:13Speaker 13: semitism or display a terrorist. Symbol, WELL i don't know
- 29:17Speaker 13: on what planet The Prime minister lives if he does
- 29:20Speaker 13: not think that that is a, sensible practical and reasonable.
- 29:27Speaker 13: Recommendation so shame on The Prime. Minister he has been
- 29:31Speaker 13: presented with a constructive list of recommendations by the people
- 29:37Speaker 13: who have been affected most egregiously by Anti semitism in this, country.
- 29:45Speaker 2: And he's not going to implement.
- 29:47Speaker 13: Them so there you, go every time he opens his,
- 29:50Speaker 13: mouth platitudes and nothing.
- 29:52Speaker 2: More, yeah and you're exactly.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Right every one of those fifteen recommendations are, sensible meaningful and.
- 29:58Speaker 2: DIRECTED i believe.
- 29:59Speaker 3: They would have a angible difference on reducing, wicked not,
- 30:03Speaker 3: eliminating but at least reducing anti seven McKenny, Exactly Michaylae,
- 30:08Speaker 3: cash thank you very much for coming on the. Program
- 30:11Speaker 3: now still to, come devastating flooding in Central, texas claiming
- 30:15Speaker 3: the lives of more than one hundred. People we'll get
- 30:17Speaker 3: the latest FROM cnn Reporter Lee, woldman plus The Prime

- 30:30Speaker 2: Would join me to discuss that's. Next welcome. Back.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Well, today three people were charged with, assault righteous behavior
- 30:42Speaker 3: and criminal damage after a group of protesters stormed An
- 30:45Speaker 3: israeli owned restaurant In, MELBOURNE cbd On friday night and
- 30:49Speaker 3: joining me now Is israel's ambassador To, Australia Emir.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Maymon, emir thank you very much for your.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Time, now there've been no arrests made over The adas
- 30:59Speaker 3: synagogue fire bombing From december last, year so it was
- 31:03Speaker 3: really good news today that police have acted so swiftly
- 31:07Speaker 3: over now two incidents From friday night with a series of.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Arrests, well good.
- 31:14Speaker 15: Evening, shari and thank you once again for having me
- 31:17Speaker 15: in your. Program, yes this is definitely a very positive
- 31:22Speaker 15: step in the right. Direction the arrest a few hours
- 31:28Speaker 15: after the arsen attack attempt was, immediate and also today
- 31:33Speaker 15: announcement of The Victoria police is definitely a positive step.
- 31:40Speaker 15: Forward this is exactly what everyone was looking for for real,
- 31:45Speaker 15: action And i'm really satisfied that in the end of
- 31:51Speaker 15: the investigation it led to the arrest of a number of,
- 31:54Speaker 15: people AND i do hope that in the future we'll
- 31:57Speaker 15: see some more arrest of people that were involved in
- 32:00Speaker 15: Anti semitic.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Attacks, YEAH i hope so as.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Well, amir you personally visited The East Melbourne synagogue.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Today, look when you first.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Began you're posting In, australia could you ever have imagined
- 32:14Speaker 3: you'd be visiting synagogues that have been, firebombed that we'd
- 32:19Speaker 3: be dealing with this crisis of antisemitism In.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Australia, well to.
- 32:26Speaker 15: Be, honest WHEN i was appointed by The minispipy Of Fauna,
- 32:31Speaker 15: FIRST i was told by some of my very capable
- 32:35Speaker 15: predecessors that there is no better place Than australia to
- 32:38Speaker 15: spend the last few years before. Retirement, unfortunately the last three,
- 32:44Speaker 15: years my last three years were all but the preparation
- 32:47Speaker 15: for my future. Retirement and you're absolutely. RIGHT i didn't
- 32:51Speaker 15: expect that during my TENURE i would be visiting so many.
- 32:55Speaker 15: Synagogues it's not just The adasis will not just the
- 33:02Speaker 15: synagogue In. MELBOURNE i also visited the synagogue In newtown
- 33:07Speaker 15: and also In South. Sydney and by the, way WHEN
- 33:10Speaker 15: i visited the synagogue In, NEWTOWN i discovered the synagogue
- 33:14Speaker 15: was attack in nineteen ninety three and arsen. Attack people
- 33:18Speaker 15: tend to forget it that the recent arsen attack are
- 33:21Speaker 15: not the first one here In. Australia and not only,
- 33:25Speaker 15: that IF i can share something with, You On december,
- 33:28Speaker 15: sixth the day a few hours after The Adas israel
- 33:32Speaker 15: synagogue was. Attacked we held a ceremony here in The
- 33:36Speaker 15: embassy round to commemorate the historic protest Of William. Cooper
- 33:42Speaker 15: William cooper protested and it is in accordance to The
- 33:45Speaker 15: advashem the single private prose that is. Recorded he protested
- 33:51Speaker 15: in front of The German Consulated, melbourne and it was
- 33:55Speaker 15: all About. Crystal The night of The Broken glasses In november,
- 34:00Speaker 15: ninth nineteen thirty, eight the night Where jewish books were
- 34:05Speaker 15: burned and The jewish shops windows were, broken And jewish
- 34:09Speaker 15: synagogues were also. Burnt and for me to visit the
- 34:13Speaker 15: synagogue Dass Was synagogue the following early the following, week
- 34:18Speaker 15: it was really so, sad so chilling to visit these
- 34:25Speaker 15: two holes that were burnt to, ashes to smell the
- 34:30Speaker 15: smoke and the. Fire it took me back to The Crystal.
- 34:34Speaker 15: North it took me back To october the. Seventh but
- 34:38Speaker 15: you know, what in each one of these synagogues THAT i,
- 34:42Speaker 15: VISITED i met with a Wonderful australians Of jewish origin
- 34:47Speaker 15: that are so determined not to let anything to interfere
- 34:52Speaker 15: with their, culture with their. Life they you, KNOW i
- 34:57Speaker 15: went there to strengthen, them to support, them AND i
- 35:01Speaker 15: felt that they supported me more THAN i supported, them
- 35:05Speaker 15: and their message was very. Clear The jewish music will
- 35:09Speaker 15: never be. Stopped nobody will stop The jewish. Music and
- 35:13Speaker 15: that's you, know a real, Pride no it.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Is, indeed it's a beautiful.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Sentiment and what about you, Personally, emya how have you
- 35:23Speaker 3: been treated as The israeli ambassador during your time In.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Australia, well it's not our two period of.
- 35:32Speaker 15: Time october the sevenths is definitely a day that changed
- 35:38Speaker 15: the life of Many, israelis many members of The australian
- 35:43Speaker 15: community Of jewish, origin and changed the life of all
- 35:49Speaker 15: those who care and Love. ISRAEL i woke up After
- 35:55Speaker 15: october the seventh AND i was In israel And october
- 35:58Speaker 15: the seventh to find out That i'm not always welcome
- 36:03Speaker 15: by all political, circles and to wake up and find
- 36:07Speaker 15: out that some politicians are calling the government to, deport
- 36:12Speaker 15: to expel me From. Canberra it's not something very. Nice
- 36:18Speaker 15: on the other, HAND i should emphasize THAT i still
- 36:23Speaker 15: enjoy a very good relation and communication with the senior
- 36:28Speaker 15: leadership and with The Prime minister and The Foreign minister
- 36:33Speaker 15: and many other senior. Ministers But, unfortunately not all are
- 36:38Speaker 15: are willing to meet with, me and it is a
- 36:42Speaker 15: bit upsetting because we live In australia is a democracy
- 36:49Speaker 15: AND i was always in the view that those who
- 36:53Speaker 15: live in democracy should not have any problems meeting the
- 36:57Speaker 15: representative of other democratic, countries despite and regardless the differences
- 37:03Speaker 15: that we may.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Have, yeah but AS i.
- 37:06Speaker 15: Said the glass is not fully. Empty the glass is
- 37:09Speaker 15: also half. Full And i'm thankful for the very good
- 37:13Speaker 15: and for the quality of the communication THAT i have
- 37:16Speaker 15: with the senior.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Leadership, Well i'm glad you are optimistic and you have that,
- 37:22Speaker 3: outlook and we are always privileged and honored to have
- 37:26Speaker 3: you on the. Program so you know you don't have
- 37:29Speaker 3: that reaction from, here even though you might have it
- 37:31Speaker 3: from parts of The Labor.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Party amir May, one thank you very much for joining us.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Tonight all, right still to come are us style primaries
- 37:40Speaker 3: the answer to The Liberal party Wose i'll speak With
- 37:43Speaker 3: Andrew caswell And Camra milner a bit. Later PLUS cnn
- 37:46Speaker 3: Reportedly woldman brings us the very latest on the tragedy In.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Texas that's after this quick. Break welcome.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Back in returning now to the devastating floods In, texas
- 38:00Speaker 3: which has claimed the lives of more than one hundred,
- 38:02Speaker 3: people dozens still unaccounted. For and joining me now IS
- 38:06Speaker 3: Cnn Raportter live From Central, Texas Lee, Waldman, lee thank
- 38:11Speaker 3: you very much for joining. Us, look this has been
- 38:14Speaker 3: particularly tragic because so many.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Children have been.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Killed what are some of the stories you're hearing that
- 38:21Speaker 3: are emerging from devastated families whose little girls were at summer.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Camps, sure it's good to be with, you and you're exactly.
- 38:32Speaker 7: Right there's so much heartbreak that's here after these devastating.
- 38:37Speaker 7: Floods more than one hundred people have, died but here
- 38:40Speaker 7: In Kirk county where we, are the death toll continues
- 38:42Speaker 7: to rise at a rapid. Rate we've talked so much
- 38:45Speaker 7: About Camp, mystic that all girls, camp located right along
- 38:50Speaker 7: The Guadalupe. River there was twenty seven lives that were
- 38:53Speaker 7: lost there and stories of, heartbreak stories of counselors trying
- 38:58Speaker 7: to save the kids inside of their. Cabins in the
- 39:02Speaker 7: families of these children who were losting their kids were
- 39:05Speaker 7: sent there to have a great, summer to make, memories
- 39:09Speaker 7: telling us that their kids brought light to every room
- 39:11Speaker 7: that they walked. In it's truly. Heartbreaking but we also
- 39:14Speaker 7: want to talk about the director of that, camp Mister.
- 39:19Speaker 7: Eastland he, died according to his, family trying to save
- 39:23Speaker 7: the kids at this, camp trying to get them out
- 39:25Speaker 7: of the rising water two higher grounds so they could
- 39:28Speaker 7: so they could get to, safety and unfortunately he was
- 39:31Speaker 7: swept away by these. Floodwaters we're hearing so many stories
- 39:34Speaker 7: of heroism, here of people risking everything to try and
- 39:39Speaker 7: save those who were around.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Them it's truly.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Heartbreaking there's a lot of discussionally about whether the warnings were.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Adequate of course they. Weren't what notice were?
- 39:49Speaker 3: Families were people having holidays there or at the? Camps
- 39:53Speaker 3: what notice were they given that there would be life
- 39:56Speaker 3: threatening flash, Flooding.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Sherry that's a good.
- 40:02Speaker 7: Question so we know that this area is very popular
- 40:06Speaker 7: for camping for families to spend The fourth Of july,
- 40:09Speaker 7: holiday especially on the.
- 40:11Speaker 2: River that's something we do a lot here In.
- 40:12Speaker 7: Texas we know that alerts were sent out to this
- 40:16Speaker 7: area by The National Weather service three times On friday,
- 40:19Speaker 7: morning around one, am around three thirty, am and around four. Am,
- 40:23Speaker 7: now some, people including the mayor Of, curveville where we
- 40:27Speaker 7: are right, now said that they never received any kind
- 40:30Speaker 7: of alert alerting them about the floodwater that was. COMING
- 40:33Speaker 7: fema has put out information about why some people might
- 40:36Speaker 7: not have gotten an.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Alerts to their.
- 40:38Speaker 7: Phone it could have to do with them turning off
- 40:40Speaker 7: the emergency alerts on their, phones but also could have
- 40:43Speaker 7: to do with cell phone signal and cell phone coverage
- 40:46Speaker 7: in this, area something our team has also had to
- 40:49Speaker 7: battle in some of these more rural areas not being
- 40:51Speaker 7: able to get cell, signals so that plays a role
- 40:53Speaker 7: in whether or not people were able to receive those
- 40:56Speaker 7: types of. Alerts, now not far from where we are
- 40:58Speaker 7: here In, curve there's a town Called, comfort and In, Comfort,
- 41:02Speaker 7: texas they're also prone to. Flooding like we saw, here
- 41:05Speaker 7: they have an emergency alert system that sounded a siren
- 41:08Speaker 7: about the rising floodwater and there is no futalities in that, community.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Which shows the importance of those public siren. Systems Lee,
- 41:17Speaker 3: woldman thank you very much for joining us at that
- 41:20Speaker 3: very early hour five forty am in Central.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Texas thank you now still to.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Come Andrew carswell And Camra milner with me live to
- 41:29Speaker 3: talk INTRODUCING us style primaries to select liberal.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Candidates will that help the. Party that's.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Next welcome back and let's bring in our political panel
- 41:42Speaker 3: now Former Morrison Press Secretary Andrew carswell and Former Labor
- 41:47Speaker 3: State Secretary Camer.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Milner great to see you. Both let's start with the.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Coalition The liberals are now exploring ways to rebuild the
- 41:55Speaker 3: party's core support after their devastating election result and.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Along with more women in the party.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Room one idea that's been floated is For liberal candidates
- 42:06Speaker 3: to be selected by the general, public so not Just
- 42:09Speaker 3: Liberal party members and having A us style primary. System
- 42:13Speaker 3: this would allow local voters to have a say in
- 42:16Speaker 3: who the candidates, are regardless of whether they are Carrying
- 42:20Speaker 3: Liberal party members card Carrying Liberal party. Members Julian lisa
- 42:25Speaker 3: has supported this. Idea he says it's the best way
- 42:28Speaker 3: to ensure that our members reflect the communities that they.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Represent it's to have the largest number of members of
- 42:34Speaker 3: the general community choose.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Them, andrew what do you?
- 42:38Speaker 3: THINK i think it would be hard to disagree with this,
- 42:41Speaker 3: idea Giving australians a, say, well they've got to try.
- 42:46Speaker 14: Something shari to freshen things up and explore other avenues
- 42:50Speaker 14: to attract the right candidates and get the right candidates into,
- 42:53Speaker 14: parliament and particularly to attract more women into parliament and
- 42:56Speaker 14: get them into successful positions where they can be in
- 42:59Speaker 14: Part AND i think that this, issue this, way this
- 43:03Speaker 14: mechanism will do. THAT i, mean you can have all the,
- 43:05Speaker 14: rhetoric can hold all the good intentions in the world
- 43:07Speaker 14: about trying to get more women in, parliament but unless
- 43:11Speaker 14: you've got a mechanism that will allow that to, happen
- 43:13Speaker 14: it won't happen to the same degree as it does
- 43:15Speaker 14: in The Labor party where you have a. Quota now
- 43:18Speaker 14: quotas it not everyone's cup of tea within the. Party
- 43:21Speaker 14: that's clearly evident at what we've seen this week with
- 43:24Speaker 14: the bickering that goes on between the right and the.
- 43:26Speaker 14: Left but when you put the power in the hands
- 43:28Speaker 14: of the public to, decide you're going to get an
- 43:30Speaker 14: outcome that is the equivalent of a quota style. Outcome
- 43:33Speaker 14: the public want more women in, parliament they want people
- 43:38Speaker 14: from more diverse, backgrounds they want people from more diverse
- 43:41Speaker 14: professional backgrounds as well as ethnic. Backgrounds they want that gender.
- 43:46Speaker 14: Neutrality so we will see the results that the party's
- 43:51Speaker 14: trying to strive. For AND i Think susan's walk this
- 43:55Speaker 14: line very, well very. Wisely she's not going to be
- 43:58Speaker 14: a bulldozer on this. Issue she's going to bring the
- 44:01Speaker 14: party with, her and this is the first step with.
- 44:03Speaker 3: That the only flip, Side Cameron milner is that if
- 44:08Speaker 3: they're not members of The Liberal, party then they don't
- 44:11Speaker 3: hold the.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Values necessarily of The Liberal. Party so you could.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Have green style voters selecting A liberal. Candidate so that
- 44:21Speaker 3: would be very, problematic.
- 44:24Speaker 1: It would be And Shari, Look Labor party looked at
- 44:26Speaker 1: this actually fifteen years Ago Forkeda carr And braxware review
- 44:30Speaker 1: into our twenty ten federal election in which they actually
- 44:32Speaker 1: came out with the idea of. Primary so this is
- 44:34Speaker 1: not new to major polical parties to look at and
- 44:36Speaker 1: grapple with about how they find better. Candidates but you're,
- 44:39Speaker 1: RIGHT i, mean in THE us the experiences you actually
- 44:41Speaker 1: have tactical. Voting you Have democrats voting for the most,
- 44:44Speaker 1: extreme Extreme republican candidates in certain pre selections to try
- 44:48Speaker 1: to get a candidate who's unelectable pre. Selected so now
- 44:51Speaker 1: there's a lot of INTERFERENCE i think in primaries that
- 44:53Speaker 1: it's not well. Understood and at the end of the,
- 44:55Speaker 1: day party. Members party members are actually going to reflect the,
- 44:58Speaker 1: community not just some artificial preselection. Process but CAN i
- 45:01Speaker 1: say it wasn't the quality of the, Candidates it was
- 45:03Speaker 1: the quality of the campaign and a complete lack of
- 45:05Speaker 1: policies that let The Liberal party down and smash their
- 45:07Speaker 1: primary wasn't the, candidates he was the. Campaign and also.
- 45:13Speaker 3: It's who's running and whether that person as leader connects With.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Australians and you, KNOW i Think Peter dartten was. Terrific
- 45:22Speaker 3: we had him on the show a lot of, times
- 45:24Speaker 3: but for whatever, reason there was that disconnected In australians
- 45:28Speaker 3: didn't feel like they knew him well. Enough so they
- 45:32Speaker 3: were influenced by the scare campaigns that labor around so,
- 45:36Speaker 3: successfully and they could see in their polling the immediate
- 45:40Speaker 3: impact of those scare, campaigns and people believed them and
- 45:43Speaker 3: they were influenced by.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Them NOW i want to.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Return to The albanese government and particularly The prime minister
- 45:51Speaker 3: making his fourth trip To. Beijing while the relationship with
- 45:54Speaker 3: THE us is, Failing, andrew there seems to be an
- 45:57Speaker 3: inversion of foreign. POLICY i, mean as alban easy forgotten
- 46:01Speaker 3: How china has Treated australia over many years you saw
- 46:05Speaker 3: it up, close since your old boss dared to call
- 46:08Speaker 3: for an inquiry into the origins of the pandemic that
- 46:12Speaker 3: killed millions around the.
- 46:13Speaker 14: World, yeah what's troubling, Here shari is there's an increasing
- 46:18Speaker 14: alignment on our foreign posture and our foreign rhetoric and
- 46:22Speaker 14: our foreign positions With, china with The Chinese Communist party
- 46:27Speaker 14: as opposed to traditional sense we would have alignment with
- 46:31Speaker 14: our alliance partners in THE us and our partners In
- 46:34Speaker 14: europe as. Well there is an increasing alignment With china
- 46:39Speaker 14: when it comes to, defense and this would Make chinese officials.
- 46:43Speaker 14: Please there is no doubt about, that particularly as The
- 46:46Speaker 14: Prime minister heads To china this. Week china is increasingly
- 46:50Speaker 14: expansionist in its view of the, world Whereas australia is
- 46:54Speaker 14: increasingly isolated and insulance thinking in the. World that Pleases.
- 46:58Speaker 14: Beijing china is racing its defense, Spending it's increasing its defense.
- 47:02Speaker 14: Capabilities ours is tracking, sideways and they're ignoring every effort
- 47:07Speaker 14: from our alliance partners to increase our defense. Spending this Pleases,
- 47:11Speaker 14: china there is no doubt about. That AND i think
- 47:13Speaker 14: The Prime minister And Foreign Minister wong think they're actually
- 47:18Speaker 14: winning this argument on defense. Spending think they think they're
- 47:21Speaker 14: actually doing the right thing. Here and you, know this
- 47:24Speaker 14: is The prome minister that was going to walk into
- 47:26Speaker 14: a meeting With Donald trump at THE g seven and
- 47:29Speaker 14: say the reason we're not going to increase our defense
- 47:31Speaker 14: spending is because we HOST us troops On australian, soil
- 47:35Speaker 14: like that was a. Thing you, know there's THIRTEEN us
- 47:40Speaker 14: bases in THE, uk there's FORTY us military installations In.
- 47:44Speaker 14: Germany do they get a discount on their defense? Spending,
- 47:46Speaker 14: no they increased it to five.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Percent.
- 47:50Speaker 3: YEAH i think the foreign policy is just so confused
- 47:53Speaker 3: under the current, government mostly the fauld Of Penywang.
- 47:57Speaker 2: CAMERA i, mean.
- 47:58Speaker 3: This is absurd what we're playing out a prime minister
- 48:01Speaker 3: who has no relationship with The president of The United.
- 48:05Speaker 2: States when has that? Happened not in our living?
- 48:09Speaker 1: Memory and that's that's the real. Risk, KIRSHARI i, mean
- 48:11Speaker 1: this is this is inverted foreign. Policy we favor our
- 48:15Speaker 1: enemies over our allies and that's a huge. Problem but
- 48:18Speaker 1: isn't you, know Isn't alba getting this down of fine,
- 48:20Speaker 1: art sucking up to The chinese and chasing gratuitous compliments
- 48:23Speaker 1: like handsome. BOY i, mean he doesn't want a meeting
- 48:25Speaker 1: With trump because that's a hard meeting to. Have he,
- 48:27Speaker 1: wants you, know spring rolls In beijing because that's easy and,
- 48:31Speaker 1: lazy and so that's the. Problem we actually have to
- 48:33Speaker 1: have a conversation With. Trump we have to deal with
- 48:35Speaker 1: THE us. Administration we have to deal with our long term,
- 48:37Speaker 1: allies like THE, uk Like, israel like THE. Us we
- 48:40Speaker 1: can't be sucking up To china because ultimately they're not our,
- 48:43Speaker 1: friends they're our.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Foe And, cameron you, know you've also made the point
- 48:49Speaker 3: in your column In The nightly this week as well
- 48:52Speaker 3: about how foreign policy is impacting on Anti semitism and
- 48:57Speaker 3: social cohesion here because the government's constantly Painting israel as the.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Enemy can you just expand on that.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Point, look Anti semitism is a scourge that's been centuries.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Old we wanted to finish it, off and we should
- 49:11Speaker 1: have finished, off and it's now come. Back it's come
- 49:13Speaker 1: back because of Weak albanese government that acquiesces and wrings
- 49:17Speaker 1: its hands when it sees synagogue's being. Burnt we've had
- 49:19Speaker 1: now two singhogs being. Burnt this is a real, crisis
- 49:22Speaker 1: a real crisis that needs real leadership and that's what
- 49:24Speaker 1: we're crying out from from This albanese.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Government, yeah do you think we're going to get? It Andrew?
- 49:30Speaker 2: Carswell do you?
- 49:30Speaker 3: Think because you're not going to have time to answer.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Him BUT i suspect now that the election's, over we
- 49:37Speaker 3: are seeing a bit of a shift in their. LANGUAGE
- 49:39Speaker 3: i was very surprised At Tony burke's comments On. Sunday
- 49:44Speaker 3: they were better than we've seen in the past couple of,
- 49:47Speaker 3: years and it's probably because the election's. Over see he's
- 49:50Speaker 3: not worried about The muslim vote in marginal Western sydney.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Seats so Maybe i'm going to be disappointed yet, again
- 49:57Speaker 3: but perhaps there is reason to hope that there might
- 50:00Speaker 3: actually take some action now that the election's.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Over we'll.
- 50:04Speaker 3: See Maybe i'll be, disappointed probably will Be Andrew.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Carswell Carara.
- 50:08Speaker 3: Mina great to have you on the, show And i'll
- 50:12Speaker 3: be back tomorrow at eight. O'clock and right, now Here's
- 50:14Speaker 3: Paul murray
