- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans, welcome in to do Vault Daily, presented by jingag.com.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Lugo, thanks so much for being here Thursday, December 11th, and right now, we're talking about the Jaguar's current weaknesses.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked a lot about all the great things the Jaguars are doing over this 4-game winning streak.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: Just the play that they have had overall since the by-week and a lot of ways has been massively improved, especially over the 4-game win streak.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: three out of last four games, they've really dominated in those games, so there's been a lot of good to talk about, and we've been doing that.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: but we haven't talked as much about the areas the Jag War is might struggle a little bit.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: And so we're gonna do that here today.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.

- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: So the number one issue that the Jag War has currently in my opinion is penalties.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: The penalty situation, I think it's improved a little bit.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you look like last six games versus the first however many games before the buy, I think that it's improved a little, but there's still games where there's way too many penalties.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think the average is still too high.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think they still, if they don't lead the league in penalties, they're definitely close to the top.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that they lead the league though.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's too high.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's too much and it's gotten better.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've gotten better at overcoming those penalties overall, as well, especially on the offensive side of the ball with their improved consistency in the passing game.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: But penalties, if you're playing one of these teams in a make or break game, one of these really good teams, penalties can absolutely impact the game in a negative way, really to the point where
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: They could be a primary driver for not being able to execute and ultimately losing a football game.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: And you can't have that.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: So they gotta continue to work on the penalties.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to be perfect.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to be held to one or two or three or four penalties again.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: But if you can be somewhere in that range of five to seven, five to eight even, I think that puts you in a much better spot than when you are going double digits.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, looking at the Jaguars running game, overall it's a good running game and you look at success rate and different things like that, the numbers aren't amazing.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: I do think the last couple weeks they have been in a bit of a slump in the run game.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: I also think against the Titans, they just knew they could throw the ball and they did.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: And in games where you're up by a lot, the running game kind of might slow down a little bit because teams know you're just turning to the run a little bit more later in the game.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars have done a good job running the ball this year.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: They're averaging over 120 yards a game on the ground.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think if they had games where they didn't just say, hey, we're gonna be able to throw the ball over the middle in this game where we're gonna be able to throw the ball down the field.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: That number could be a little bit higher.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: but it has been in a slump the last two weeks against the titans who they don't have a great run defense, but they do have talent up front.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: They do have, you know, Jeffrey Simmons, Devondra sweat, said you're at Grey's been making a ton of plays.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: And so they have,
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: The physicality to be a good run defense, they hadn't been a consistently good run defense, but they slowed the Jaguars down.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: The Colts, Jaguars still had over 100 yards on the ground, but it wasn't particularly consistent.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: You had some really nice runs by Travis E.T.N.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: But the Colts, they do have one of the better run defenses in football.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: The Colts, I mean, you look at what they've averaged
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: as a run defense this year.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: They've been one of the toughest teams to run on.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: They're giving up three point eight yards per carry on the ground on the year, less than 100 yards a game.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I think it's very fair to say that the cults have a good run defense, but you're gonna face some good run defenses down the stretch and the playoffs.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: If you make it there, if you handle your business and get to the playoffs,
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to face really good run defenses, and it would help to be able to find a little bit more consistency over these next four weeks on the ground to get you go in in that direction and the playoffs where you can really be a balanced team.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: And they've been able to have some balance and even when the run game's not working, the past game has been working pretty consistently lately.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, so.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: not like a weakness necessarily, but not a strength right now, I would say, especially the last two games, it's been in a little bit of a slump.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: I would say inconsistency in general can be a problem.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen a lot of that lately and you look a lot of people are like, well, the jacks, they have these games where they let opposing teams stick around and that's absolutely true, they do.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, like,
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: The NFL is a league of parity.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Every team has pretty much every team.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Has a bad loss on their resume.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty much every team has let opposing teams that shouldn't be in the game stick around.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't really think that that's a major weakness.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the inconsistency in general, it's kind of, they've been one of the most consistent teams in the league over the last month.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: They beat down the Charger's 35 to 6, yes, you had that game and they were with the Cardinals, where it was a little wonky.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: You beat down the Titans, 25 to 3, you beat down the Cold's 36 to 19.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: They're playing consistent football right now.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: You have seen inconsistency at times throughout the year to where maybe, and there's been inconsistency in a lot of different spots on the team.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, you don't see it much, but it maybe it could be a weakness in a specific game.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of the times that you have seen in consistencies throughout a game or a game where it's just like certain things are plaguing the Jaguars, and it's not always the same thing.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's on the road.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's away from Jacksonville.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: They have been much less consistent as a team on road trips than they have in Jacksonville.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: Away from Jacksonville, they are 4 and 3.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Because they lost to the Rams, obviously it was a home game in London, but they lost to the Rams over the pond, and so they're 5 and 1 at home, 4 and 3 away from Jacksonville.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: 4 and 3 is a good road record, right?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: But if we're trying to poke holes in what the Jaguars are right now,
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: They've had some silly games on the road, some really bad performances on the road, even in wins.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: But you look at the game against the Rams.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was an atrocious performance.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: They just could not figure it out.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't get out of their own way.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: They did move the ball a lot in that game, but outside of that, there's nothing much you could point to that was actually a positive Parker Washington's touchdown return got negated.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: It shouldn't have.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: positive in my book but outside of that there wasn't much and then you have the debacle in Houston where the Jaguar is completely fall apart against the Texans.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: Then you have the game in Arizona where the Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence, they let Arizona hang around.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of that was due to Trevor Lawrence's turnovers,
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: to win an overtime-to-von Hamilton-tipped pass.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Battered pass at the line away from losing that game and overtime to the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: So on the road, there's been wonkiness, which to me highlights the fact that the Jaguars need to be gunning for one of the top two seats.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: That will help them tremendously to be at home for playoff games.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Again, you're still just trying to make the playoff.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're still just trying to win your division.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: But take it one week at a time.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're able to handle your business, if you're able to win the three games you should remaining on your schedule and also beat the Broncos and potentially jump the Broncos and get a top two seed, that sets you up really well because you're a lot better in Jacksonville right now than you are away from Jacksonville.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not to say they can't beat teams away from Jacks.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: They've done it.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: They beat the 49ers in San Francisco, right?
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about all those other close games they've had.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: You go beat the Broncos and Denver.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: That can instill some confidence in you as a road, as a road warrior.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of that stuff.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: They're throwing the ball really well.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: The success rate has gone way up.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, there was some, I mean, 17 of 30 this past game doesn't look good, but you had three drops all due to the weather, the rain.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: You had Trevor Lawrence with one or two mist throes, getting into the flow of things.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: They're attacking down the field.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: They're catching the ball.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: They have complimentary pieces.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Britain strange, he's so physical and tough, but also a really good receiver that can execute in a lot of different roles as a receiver.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: Jacobi Myers, the chain mover, the guy who can work the middle of the field, Tim Patrick, a bit of a utility piece, Parker Washington when he gets back, can do a lot of different things for you.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: And Brian Thomas, Jr. your field stretcher on the outside.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: They have a lot going on in that passing game.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: The past protection has improved over the last month as well.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: If you're playing complimentary football when your defense is forcing turnovers, giving you short fields, you're capitalizing on it, you're rushing the passer, you're covering better, you're hitting, you're tough, special teams is doing good, there's not a lot of holes to poke in the way that Jack Wars are playing right now, but they've got to continue that.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to keep this momentum going.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Throughout the next four games and into the playoffs and if they do that, they're probably
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: being able to play at least one home playoff game, hopefully two.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: You never know, maybe even three.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: We've looked at the schedules for the Broncos and the Patriots.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Broncos are more likely to be able to get jumped by the Jaguars just because they can troll the ability to go take them down and Denver and they have the Broncos have a tougher schedule than the Patriots.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: But the Patriots play the bills this weekend if the Patriots lose to the bills, we can
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: So, everything's in front of the Jack's right now.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: They're playing Goop Football, but we did need to talk about the weaknesses, the little cracks in the armor that are there right now.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe, and y'all have a good one.
