- 0:25Now, here's Pastor Ed to take us into our study.
- 0:30Amen. Amen, take your Bibles.
- 0:33Open them to Jeremiah chapter 18, Jeremiah chapter 18, and
- 0:41Ezekiel chapter. 34, Jeremiah 18 and Ezekiel. 34 in a Bible study
- 0:49that I've entitled having your Shepherds and pastor's heart,
- 0:55and this is servants class. Number two, Now, serving
- 1:00alongside of your pastor and Shepherd, Jesus.
- 1:05It's very important. You recognize that your pastor
- 1:08is the chief Shepherd, Jesus himself.
- 1:13All of us as servants and pastors and leaders are under
- 1:17Shepherds. We all serve the chief Shepherd
- 1:20together, when we serve alongside of our pastor and
- 1:24Shepherd Jesus, it's vital that we have his heart.
- 1:30His pastor's heart. Let me give you Insight a little
- 1:35bit on what that looks like from Jesus own lips.
- 1:38You can just jot it down. I'm going to read it to you from
- 1:41the New Living Translation, John chapter 10.
- 1:44Beginning in verse 11. Listen to what Jesus says John
- 1:4810:11 and following I am the Good Shepherd, the Good
- 1:53Shepherd, sacrifices, his life for the Sheep.
- 1:57A Hired Hand will run. When he sees a wolf coming, he
- 2:01will abandon the Sheep because they don't belong to him, and he
- 2:05isn't their Shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and
- 2:08scatters the flock. The Hired Hand runs away because
- 2:12he's working only for the money and doesn't really care about
- 2:15the Sheep. I am the Good Shepherd.
- 2:19I know my own sheep and they They know me just as my father
- 2:23knows me and I know the father So I sacrifice my life for the
- 2:28Sheep. Jesus makes a clear distinction
- 2:31between a Shepherd's Heart. And a Hired Hand or you might
- 2:36hear this word as you read it in the new King James, A hireling
- 2:40and there's a big difference between the two.
- 2:43They may appear to be the same for a while but when serving
- 2:48doesn't line up with their motives or danger approaches
- 2:52like a wolf, Jesus says, The Hired Hand runs away.
- 2:56Not only does a Hired Hand run away but the hireling abandons
- 3:00the flock when things get tough. The hireling runs away.
- 3:05But Jesus says, even if things get tough, I'm sacrifice.
- 3:09I've already sacrificed as a Shepherd.
- 3:11I'm going to take care of the flock and that's what's expected
- 3:14of us here. It is necessary.
- 3:17That you be a, it's necessary that you have a pastor's heart,
- 3:21not that you be a pastor. When you hear pastors hard on
- 3:25what you can easily dismiss yourself like last time in our
- 3:29previous study together, where the word Minister can throw you
- 3:33will, you know, I'll never be a minister or I'll never be a
- 3:35pastor. So these things don't apply to
- 3:37me. You know, that's not true.
- 3:39The word Minister just means servant and Pastor just means
- 3:43Shepherd, you don't have to have the title, or the role or the
- 3:47position, but you must have, if you're going to take care of the
- 3:51shepherd's flock, then you better have his heart.
- 3:55There's nothing less is acceptable that you cultivate
- 3:59that heart. I believe if we're going to
- 4:03serve God by serving his people, a pastor's heart is something to
- 4:06start praying for right now. It's asking God to make you more
- 4:12like him and to help you see the church and people like he does.
- 4:20We learned last time that it's very encouraging to know that
- 4:24God will use anyone. He doesn't use Perfect People,
- 4:28none of us are perfect. There's never been a perfect
- 4:31person, but God will use anyone. God does use anyone?
- 4:37God will use you as you yield yourself to him.
- 4:42He's preparing you for it shaping, you and molding, you, a
- 4:48great picture of that is in Jeremiah chapter 18, Jeremiah
- 4:53chapter 18, in the ministry, life of Jeremiah, he was told to
- 4:59go to The Potter's House and there he would see an example,
- 5:04which would prepare him to hear a word from God.
- 5:09He's in the midst and serving in the middle of his ministry, he's
- 5:13serving a resistant and rebellious nation.
- 5:18And in this season he says go down to The Potter's House and
- 5:22there he's going to notice something and here's what I want
- 5:24you to notice. There's a lot of different
- 5:26angles to take this section of scripture but here's an angle, I
- 5:30want you to consider, I want you to consider the care and concern
- 5:35of the Potter. I want you to think through the
- 5:38care and concern of the Potter of what he does with the clay
- 5:44and how he care how careful he is.
- 5:48Taking that lump of clay and making it into something useful
- 5:53that has great usefulness. useful and usefulness, notice
- 5:59with me, in verse 1 of chapter 18, the word, which came to
- 6:03Jeremiah from the Lord saying, Arise and go down to The
- 6:07Potter's House and they're all cause you to hear my words, then
- 6:11I went down to The Potter's House and there he was making
- 6:15something at the wheel and the vessel that he made of clay was
- 6:20marred in the hand of the Potter.
- 6:23So he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the
- 6:27Potter to make. Then the word of the Lord came
- 6:29to me saying, O House of Israel. Can I not do with you as this
- 6:34Potter, says the Look as the clay is in The Potters hand.
- 6:39So are you in my hand? O House of Israel.
- 6:44Three parts to this true story three parts that will help us
- 6:50understand the heart of the father.
- 6:52Number one is the Potter and the Potter here represents God.
- 6:58The Potter is there at the wheel, which is the second part.
- 7:02The wheel, the wheel was the tool that he used and the wheel
- 7:07was useful, when it was spinning and spinning and spinning.
- 7:10Sometimes it would spin very fast, sometimes it would spin
- 7:14very slowly but as it spun, it would move the clay, which is
- 7:19the third part. So the Potter represents God,
- 7:22the wheel represents life and life circumstances.
- 7:28And then the clay not very valuable, very, very common, the
- 7:33clay it represents you, and me. It's very common, there's a lot
- 7:40of clay, but in The Potter's hands, don't miss that.
- 7:46Everything that's happening in The Potter's House is happening
- 7:51at the direction of the Potter, and he says it a couple of
- 7:54times. The clay is in The Potters
- 7:58hands. Yeah.
- 8:00The clay doesn't have much value, it's very common.
- 8:03And yet in the hands of a skilled Potter, it can becomes a
- 8:08vessel that is both useful and has great utility or usefulness
- 8:14and what a picture of Our Lives. Very common.
- 8:17Most of us, we were living Our Lives, you know, in Rebellion to
- 8:20God and then God took that lump of clay and plopped it on the
- 8:24wheel and began to fashion and mold Our Lives.
- 8:30This is the illustration. That's given to Jeremiah as a
- 8:34message to the rebellious Nation.
- 8:38Check out the Potter, see what he's doing.
- 8:41And here's the word of the Lord. And the word of the Lord was.
- 8:47Oh, Israel. Can I do with you as with this
- 8:49Potter? It's a statement of God's
- 8:53sovereignty. God's right.
- 8:57He has the right to deal with the nation.
- 9:02Just as much as the Potter has a right to deal with the clay.
- 9:08And basically, the message from Jeremiah is look, you're
- 9:11resistant and rebellious but if you turn back to me, I'll
- 9:14receive you. I'll take you back.
- 9:19But it also speaks to us as we bring it down a level by
- 9:22application and that is God has the right to do with you.
- 9:27Whatever he wants and every area of your life you're the clay.
- 9:30You're not the Potter later on in the New Testament.
- 9:33Paul will pick up on this and say, you know what, what right
- 9:36does the clay have to say anything to the Potter.
- 9:40And yet, so much resistance and Rebellion, I'm not naive enough.
- 9:45Being a pastor and a fellow believer.
- 9:47I'm not naive enough to know that in this room and every
- 9:50other service there are resistant rebellious people
- 9:53among us. Resistant to the will of God
- 9:56into the ways of God and to the calling of God in your life.
- 10:01And can't you just hear the Potter?
- 10:03Can't you just hear the Potter? He's saying, no, just relax,
- 10:07relax, but we get so caught up with circumstances and
- 10:13difficulties and it would be very scary.
- 10:15The whole scenario would be very scary if we didn't understand
- 10:19who the Potter was. Knowing his character and his
- 10:23nature. This is why we pray and why we
- 10:24read the Bible to get to know. God better not to learn a bunch
- 10:28of religious activities but the more you love God, the more, you
- 10:32know, God the more you love God, the more you love, God, the
- 10:35more, you know, him you're naturally drawn to people you
- 10:39love and to people, you know, love you.
- 10:44We know from the Bible characteristics of God that he's
- 10:48holy and good that he's just and loving and righteous and
- 10:52faithful. Psalm 25 verse 10 says, all the
- 10:57paths of the Lord are mercy and Truth.
- 11:00Psalm 19 verse 9 speaks of the fear of the Lord being clean
- 11:05enduring forever and the judgments of the Lord are true
- 11:09and righteous. we know in the New Testament in first, John
- 11:15That God is love. We don't need to be afraid of
- 11:19his work in our lives. What he wants to do in and
- 11:22through us. We know that he's good, we know
- 11:26that he's faithful and that means you can trust him with
- 11:29your life and stop fighting his plan for your life.
- 11:32You can choose to surrender and to submit and to yield yourself
- 11:39to The Potter's work. As the father is molding and
- 11:43shaping us. Sometimes.
- 11:45It's just so exciting, it is so wonderful.
- 11:49You think of when you were a new believer, you thinking about
- 11:51that new Believers eel, they just went God, you've deliver
- 11:55me, you've taken me out of the pit out of the Miry.
- 11:58Clay. You remove that addiction you
- 11:59remove my anger, you remove so much of my life and mold me,
- 12:03Lord shape me Lord. It's such a wonderful time to
- 12:07know that God is working and so much, we love we're Courage.
- 12:12But then like with the Potters, he's watching this particular
- 12:16event in verse 4. Everything's being shaped into
- 12:20the vessel that the Potter wants and all of a sudden it says, the
- 12:25vessel he made of clay was marred.
- 12:29You might have a note in your Bible.
- 12:31That this word means ruined, the vessel he was making was ruined
- 12:37but don't forget, don't miss we get we focus so much on the
- 12:41ruining that we forget, that it's ruined in The Potters hand.
- 12:48God is still there even though the bottom falls out, even
- 12:52though, great failure is taking place, everything collapses seen
- 12:57this with Potter's. Watching them work and then
- 13:02seeing a little mistake and they stick their thumb in and
- 13:04destroys the whole thing. But they don't in a disposable
- 13:07culture like we're in today. I'm so grateful that God doesn't
- 13:11neither does this Potter nor does our God.
- 13:14Take that lump of clay and just throw it away and say, it's the
- 13:16Clay's fault and we would just throw it away.
- 13:19We don't need you anymore. No, what does he do?
- 13:21It says it was Martin ruin, but he made it again into another
- 13:25vessel as it seemed good to the Potter to me.
- 13:29He builds you up and now you're something new that God of the
- 13:32Second Chance. The third chance.
- 13:34He's ready to refashion and remold you, if you'll come to
- 13:37him in Repentance and humility and Brokenness and stop fighting
- 13:41him, he's ready to do it again and do it again, and do it
- 13:46again, because he's faithful, even when we are, faithless, he
- 13:49remains faithful and this Brokenness, this difficulty, I
- 13:55mean, it comes on the Wheel. And being on the wheel is not
- 14:00all that fun. Sometimes the wheel spins so
- 14:05fast. And getting dizzy, doesn't
- 14:09doesn't work for me. I don't know how it works for
- 14:12you, but when I get dizzy and I'm spun around something
- 14:16happens, I'm not going to describe it to you, but it's not
- 14:18good and I don't do well getting dizzy.
- 14:21I mean, even if we were to go to an amusement park, now, I'm not
- 14:24going in the teacups, you know, I'm not going on Dumbo ride, I'm
- 14:28not going around, I'm not getting dizzy but life can be
- 14:31like that. Sometimes the wheels so fast, so
- 14:33fast, so fast so fast, and we just don't know what guys.
- 14:36Guys doing we don't know what is happening.
- 14:40And it were feeling God, work and shape it and then boom, the
- 14:44bottom falls out. We know what that looks like in
- 14:47our lives, sometimes things are ruined in your life because of
- 14:52your own sinful choices. And the only way out is you have
- 14:56to take responsibility for your sinful choices, and repent and
- 15:01won't come any other way. And that's hard to admit, that
- 15:05what I'm going through is because of me.
- 15:08This is, it's me, it's, it's not the wheel spinning and it's me,
- 15:11it's, I'm the one, it's because of my sin.
- 15:15But, you know, other times other times, the difficulty you're
- 15:18facing is because of someone else's sin, someone you love or
- 15:23care for someone close to you or someone is chosen to rebel
- 15:27against God and you have to deal with the consequences in.
- 15:30Your life is marred in The Potters hands.
- 15:34Many times. It's a combination of the two
- 15:36living in a fallen World facing Temptation.
- 15:40It's all sorts of things surrounding but we are but we're
- 15:44in the Potter's hands. This is an important
- 15:48illustration on at least a couple different angles for the
- 15:51sake of our church and serving in our church.
- 15:54Number one, all that were describing here, the the
- 15:59unpredictability of Life, the damaging effects of sin.
- 16:03The for many people, they don't, they're not even in this like
- 16:07the spinning, the spinning of the wheel and the hands of the
- 16:10Potter is actually just to bring them to the end of themselves.
- 16:13So they will repent all of these illustrations.
- 16:17Is represent the people that come into church, the people
- 16:20you're going to be serving. This is their lives that are
- 16:24messed up and ruined. I'm not going to ask for a
- 16:27hands, but many people come to church on the heels of some
- 16:32devastating situation, then they turn back to God.
- 16:36I know that's how I walked into a church.
- 16:38I walked into a church with my marriage in shambles and my wife
- 16:42ready to leave me. I walked into a church just
- 16:45after I got pulled. It over and ticketed for
- 16:48another. Another crime committed while
- 16:53driving on top of the other ones.
- 16:55Now I'm facing jail time because of my sinful behaviors, and
- 17:00everything's falling apart my finances, my marriage, my life,
- 17:05and it was in that moment of time that my phone rang out of
- 17:08the blue from someone, I haven't spoken to and forever who
- 17:12invited me to church. So you got my life falling apart
- 17:16and an invitation to church. And I walked into a church just
- 17:19like this. And so In California.
- 17:21Calvary Chapel in Downey. California is why I walked in
- 17:25and I walked in Hopeless. God met me there.
- 17:30Well, same thing happens. Here you may be here today
- 17:34because I different different circumstances.
- 17:37Same end. You don't know what to do with
- 17:40your life, the world what? It promised didn't really give
- 17:44you anything. You did some things on your own,
- 17:47didn't really like you. You're at a place where you need
- 17:50to come to Faith in Jesus. And you need to be met by men
- 17:55and women in a church that will love you and serve you with the
- 17:57Heart of Jesus. Super important, that's one
- 18:01application. The other application is more
- 18:05personal. This is your story while you're
- 18:07serving others God is shaping. You serving others gives
- 18:12exponential growth in your spiritual life.
- 18:17You grow very, very quickly when you learn to sacrifice yourself
- 18:21and think of others more highly than yourself.
- 18:24When you start to schedule your life around other people's
- 18:27needs, and not your own needs. When your patient with others,
- 18:32when you show preference to others, when you walk in
- 18:35humility, God grows you up very quickly.
- 18:39You're not like the hireling that when things get tough, you
- 18:43just run away and abandon the Sheep know.
- 18:46You're in it with them because we're sheep to and we're not
- 18:50going to run away and we're not going to abandon, but we're
- 18:53going to stay with you. We're going to be used by God in
- 18:57your life and it's very important that you step into to
- 18:59serving because that's a place where you will grow quickly.
- 19:04Not only that there's a third that was stationed, I think is
- 19:07important, especially when it comes to being marred and built
- 19:10up into something else. And that is no matter the
- 19:14condition of your life today. Believer or unbeliever God is
- 19:16not finished with you, he is still working.
- 19:20He's not through with your life, not even close.
- 19:23Sure, it might be a real mess right now, not where you really
- 19:26thought you would be or what you expected at this stage in life.
- 19:29But God is still at work and the process begins all over again as
- 19:33he remakes us into new vessels, that please him.
- 19:37Hey, Jeremiah is coming and going.
- 19:39Look, Israel God wants to do a new work, but you he's not he's
- 19:42not going to be able to do it without your cooperation.
- 19:46And it's a beautiful thing about the Clay's, the clay on The
- 19:50Potter's Wheel doesn't have legs and can't run away.
- 19:53Like I don't want this anymore, I don't want anything to do with
- 19:56you. God, there's nothing once here.
- 19:57Plopped on the wheel, you're going to be Actly?
- 19:59What God desires you to be and as he shapes and mold you it's a
- 20:05beautiful picture. God wants you to be moldable and
- 20:08soft in his hands because if a person has a hard heart and
- 20:12stubbornly resist, God then God has a right to deal with that
- 20:16stuff that stubborn stiff clay so don't resist him.
- 20:21Micah chapter 6 and verse 8. The Bible says he has shown you
- 20:25o man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you but
- 20:29to do Really to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
- 20:36Another illustration of moldability with the Potter
- 20:40comes to us from Isaiah and Isaiah 45:9.
- 20:44Listen, Woe to him who strives with his maker.
- 20:49Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the Earth.
- 20:53Shall the clay, say to him, who forms it?
- 20:55What are you making? Or shall your handiwork say?
- 20:58He has no hands. Now again, theologically
- 21:03theologians over the years have made made this to say and to be
- 21:07something really much more complicated than it really is.
- 21:11God is saying I'm ready to work in your life.
- 21:14Don't resist me. Enjoy my work and I know it can
- 21:18be difficult and hard and send will wreck it.
- 21:21But I'll rebuild you. I'll work with you, you submit
- 21:25yourself, you surrender, and I'll work with you.
- 21:29And that's the beautiful work of the ministry in our church.
- 21:34And you can see how important it is.
- 21:35You've got to have the heart of God because people come in
- 21:38really hurt and broken and messed up over years of this
- 21:42stuff. Pastor's heart.
- 21:46What does it look like? What?
- 21:48We see a little bit of insight from Jesus, but I want to show
- 21:50you something Ezekiel 34, would you turn there?
- 21:53It's to the right of Jeremiah just a few pages.
- 21:56Ezekiel chapter 34. We want to serve with a pastor's
- 22:02hard. Remember, you don't need to be a
- 22:03pastor. To have a pastor's heart.
- 22:08When I think of a heart of Pastor or a Heart of Jesus, I
- 22:11think of Compassion Care concern, someone that sees needs
- 22:18wants to help, doesn't wait to be asked to do something.
- 22:21Someone that selfless, someone that self-sacrificial, someone
- 22:25that's learning to live a life of self-denial, a heart that
- 22:30soft moldable pliable by goddess.
- 22:33A heart that is connected to the holy spirit being led by the Lee
- 22:38spirit. And here in Ezekiel 34, we see
- 22:42first of all what a pastor's heart is not.
- 22:46He starts with the - again Ezekiel.
- 22:48Another prophet of God speaking on behalf of God, has a very
- 22:53strong word of rebuke and indictment to this group of
- 22:58spiritual leaders using the illustration of shepherds.
- 23:02So, notice with me in verse 1 And the word of the Lord came to
- 23:06me saying, son of man prophesy against the Shepherds of Israel
- 23:11prophesy and say to them, thus says the Lord God to the
- 23:14Shepherds woe to the Shepherds of Israel, who feed themselves.
- 23:19Should not the shepherd's feed. The flocks, you eat the fat.
- 23:23Clothe yourselves with. Whoa, you Slaughter the fatlings
- 23:27but you don't feed the flock the week.
- 23:29You have not strengthened Nor have you healed, those who are
- 23:33sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back, what was
- 23:38driven away, nor sought what was lost, but with force and
- 23:43cruelty, you have ruled them. And notice the response, what
- 23:47happened because of bad leadership.
- 23:49So they were scattered because there was no Shepherd, they
- 23:52became food for the beasts of the field when they were
- 23:55scattered my sheep verse 6 and don't miss that word in verse 6,
- 23:59circle, it Mark it right. I'd a star next to it.
- 24:03The Sheep along to God. When you are serving in the
- 24:07church, you're serving in this church.
- 24:10The Sheep along to God. You and we are the precious
- 24:16sheep of God. They don't belong to you, and
- 24:19they don't belong to me and he says, my sheep wandered through
- 24:23all the mountains, all every High Hill.
- 24:25Yes. My flock was scattered over the
- 24:28whole face of the year. No one was seeking or searching
- 24:31for them. In a real way, no matter what
- 24:34our title is, or what role we have.
- 24:35We are all under Shepherds. We serve the chief Shepherd, the
- 24:41flock belongs to him, he bought you and he bought me.
- 24:45Therefore, he owns Us by his own shed blood, and they, the flock
- 24:50belongs to God. And notice I want to give you
- 24:53now 10 things. If you're taking notes, ten,
- 24:57things that Mark a person without a Shepherd.
- 25:00Heart. You're wondering what a pastor's
- 25:01heart. It is.
- 25:02Or what does it look like? Well, here's 10 ways, it
- 25:05doesn't, this is 10 ways that Mark the person without a
- 25:10Shepherd card. Number one, selfishness a person
- 25:14that's hard isn't connected to God is very selfish.
- 25:17We see that here where it says In verse 2, that you feed
- 25:21yourself. You fed yourself.
- 25:24It's there. The indictment was, as they fed
- 25:26themselves and not the flock. They don't care about other
- 25:29people's need their selfish. Number two, they used people.
- 25:33They used people with the use their position to manipulate and
- 25:38use people. We see that here where they, it
- 25:40says they ate the fat and clothe themselves.
- 25:46They took advantage of the people for their for themselves.
- 25:51Thirdly, they took the best. It says that they slaughtered.
- 25:55Notice the fatlings. That would be the best of the
- 25:58best. They took it for themselves.
- 26:01Why? Because they chose to think of
- 26:03themselves. They were selfish manipulative
- 26:07and they took the best, thirdly? Notice or excuse me forth.
- 26:11They ignored needs, they ignored.
- 26:15It's how do we see that? Well, the week we're not
- 26:18strengthened and the week are pretty obvious.
- 26:21You can tell the difference between a strong sheep and a
- 26:23week sheep and when you saw that when they saw that, they ignored
- 26:27it which is what Jesus would would Jesus would condemn many
- 26:32years later when it comes to the parable of the Good Samaritan.
- 26:38Where the religious leaders they walked right on by ignoring his
- 26:43needs, but it was the Samaritan that stopped and serve their
- 26:47needs. One of the things that I teach
- 26:50the school ministry here and the servants and leaders of serve
- 26:53alongside of me and now you through the servants class,
- 26:55anyone that has ever taken the servants class.
- 26:58Now, knows this, that the greatest tool that you have, In
- 27:03serving others, but besides prayer and reading the word, the
- 27:07greatest I put it this way. The greatest practical tool you
- 27:10have, we take all the spiritual things are already part of your
- 27:14life, but the greatest practical tool you have, that would be
- 27:18helpful for you to hone in on and improve is the gift and the
- 27:23ability to make good observations observations are
- 27:28the greatest, because what you see will, then move, Of you how
- 27:33you act, if you don't see it then you won't act on it and
- 27:38then if you see something and you ignore it, then it's even
- 27:41worse. It's just like Bible study when
- 27:44you learn how to study the Bible, like we did you take
- 27:47what's known as the inductive Bible study method that has
- 27:50three parts to it. Every text you observe the text
- 27:54and you make as many observation.
- 27:56As you can as you just reading the text, it says this, it says
- 27:58this you make observations and then you ask Ian's to get to the
- 28:03one interpretation. And then once you get the right
- 28:06interpretation, then you can apply it so many different ways,
- 28:10but if you don't make your observations correctly, you'll
- 28:13never get to the right interpretation.
- 28:15You got to make the right observations.
- 28:18And I'm telling you, if you will just look around, you'll see
- 28:22more than enough people and needs that God would use you to
- 28:26me both in the church and outside of the church.
- 28:29You got his dropped. You into this generation for his
- 28:33purposes for his good. He's making you into the vessel
- 28:36for his good so don't ignore needs.
- 28:39They won't help you serve well number five.
- 28:42Not only did they ignore needs but they disregarded pain.
- 28:46They disregarded pain. We see that when it says the
- 28:49sick were not healed, you didn't even take care of the sick, you
- 28:54ignored, you ignored the week and then you didn't even take
- 28:57care of the sick. And they're being there, being
- 29:02rebuked for it. Number six, they close their
- 29:06eyes to the hurting. We see that with the brokens,
- 29:10not bound up. They close their eyes.
- 29:12We're not, I'm not even going to deal with it.
- 29:14These are people that were entrusted to take care of
- 29:16others. I mean, if you put this in
- 29:18different, if you put these things in a different context,
- 29:21for example, if this was an indictment against a medical
- 29:25doctor, You don't want to deal with the sick.
- 29:29You don't want to come to your appointments.
- 29:32You don't even show up for work anymore.
- 29:34You can see that what a doctor was designed to do isn't doing
- 29:38it anymore and that's the same in the church.
- 29:41Those that have chosen to serve like you have.
- 29:44God has given a direction for us and it starts with his heart,
- 29:48you don't have to know everything.
- 29:49You don't have to know every page of the Bible.
- 29:51You don't have to go to Seminary or Bible College.
- 29:54Just read your Bible and pray everyday and All of the leading
- 29:58of God and he will use you. Everywhere you go.
- 30:01You don't want to be on the other side of this where you
- 30:04close your eyes. Number 7, another indictment
- 30:07was, they paid? No attention.
- 30:10You can see it's closely related to making observations.
- 30:12They didn't pay attention. you know, when you don't pay
- 30:16attention, bad, things happen, when you don't pay attention to
- 30:19the details, It's a mistake that is made all too often, and he
- 30:25received that because those that were driven away, they weren't
- 30:28brought back then, even pay attention to them.
- 30:30Number eight, they refused to help the Lost were not sought.
- 30:34After it says in verse 4, they refused to help number nine.
- 30:41This one, this one is really bad because they did with it says
- 30:44with force and cruelty. So they were harsh and angry in
- 30:48their leadership and that there is no place for that in the The
- 30:51church. Now I can tell you definitively.
- 30:54There is no place for that in this church, the people of God
- 30:57are to be served in the patience of God and the love of God and
- 31:01nobody starting here with all the rest of us has permission
- 31:06from God to be harsh or cruel to the people of God, just not
- 31:10going to happen here. It's not from the Lord and the
- 31:12number 10. Another thing that they were
- 31:14condemned for their rebuked is because of their carelessness.
- 31:21Their carelessness selfish manipulative took the best
- 31:25ignored needs disregarded. Pains they close their eyes to
- 31:29the hurting. They paid no attention.
- 31:31They refused to help were harsh and angry and careless, how
- 31:36would you like to attend a church with leaders and servants
- 31:39like that? Come to our church.
- 31:41We are the worst people in the whole neighborhood.
- 31:44We won't care for, you will take advantage of it.
- 31:46I mean, it doesn't it even a lost world.
- 31:53Expects more from the church than that.
- 31:57And how does God use us that way?
- 31:59He drops in us his heart. And if I had to summarize like
- 32:05in a very quick short, little phrase, what a pastor's heart
- 32:10starts with or how it grows, it would be this that you just
- 32:16care. You just care.
- 32:21You care about your relationship with God and you care for
- 32:24others. How did Jesus say love the Lord.
- 32:27God with all your heart, soul and mind.
- 32:30Love your neighbor as yourself that you care.
- 32:33Because if you care then you will be open.
- 32:36If you care for the person, maybe you were maybe today, you
- 32:39were sitting there and during the songs.
- 32:44The person next to you was crying.
- 32:47Well, God could use if you care. God could use that care to reach
- 32:53out to the person sitting next to you and find out what's
- 32:55happening. Or you might be with someone and
- 32:59they're just, you know, not paying attention and they don't
- 33:02really care what I'm saying and they're waiting to see what time
- 33:05it. You care that made me lead you
- 33:08to ask some questions later, today is like, are you?
- 33:10Alright, because you seemed really uncomfortable today
- 33:13because you care, and it's not just for the sake of
- 33:16information. It's not, it's because you care,
- 33:19it's because you care about their soul, it doesn't care if
- 33:23they pay attention to Bible study, or if they even like the
- 33:25church, you care. Out their soul.
- 33:28It's the soul that matters and when you care, I mean
- 33:32everything's opened up. God will show you things.
- 33:34You've never seen before, he reveal things about people that
- 33:37you'll never known before. He'll give you the word you
- 33:40like, well, I don't know what to say.
- 33:41Jesus said, don't worry about it.
- 33:45I'll give you what you need in the moment.
- 33:49Just get to the moment and I'll give it to you.
- 33:54The bottom line in Ministry serving in this church.
- 33:57Is that you care? That you love God.
- 33:59You love your neighbor serving God.
- 34:01Here is not about titles, it's not about positions, it's not
- 34:05about power. It's not about climbing any kind
- 34:07of ladder or being more important than other people.
- 34:10It's not found in canvassing for position, dropping some
- 34:14political power play. It's not about making a name for
- 34:18yourself or drawing people to yourself.
- 34:20We are learning in the servants class that sir Irving is about
- 34:24serving. Dying to yourself.
- 34:29Self-sacrifice taking the lower position, no matter what title,
- 34:33you might have, what responsibilities you might have.
- 34:37And here are some things to think about, as we close in your
- 34:40personal life, about developing, your pastor's heart for simple
- 34:45things. Number one are, you Faithful?
- 34:48Are you a faithful person? Because faithfulness is a
- 34:50Hallmark of God. Number two.
- 34:53Are you available? Are you available?
- 34:56God to us is always available. That's he's attentive to our
- 35:00needs now. Are you available faithful
- 35:03available? Thirdly, are you teachable?
- 35:06Are you teachable? Because we always have something
- 35:08to learn. We're always going to be growing
- 35:10from glory to glory and strength, to strength.
- 35:13And are you humble when you need to be corrected?
- 35:16Or you got to learn something because you made a mistake, and
- 35:18there's gonna be a lot of mistakes serving God.
- 35:20Are you, teachable is God, is ready to instruct us a number
- 35:24four? Are you spiritual?
- 35:26I'm not a poser, not just putting on airs, but you have a
- 35:30real relationship with God and you're growing in that
- 35:34relationship, you now seek, first, the kingdom of God, and
- 35:38his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto.
- 35:41You one more scripture, turn over to Luke's gospel.
- 35:44Now, in the New Testament in chapter 4, Luke chapter 4, Jesus
- 35:51comes into the town, and Of Nazareth.
- 35:56Spinners life. The first years of his life
- 35:59growing up here. He comes back home.
- 36:03He was brought up at says in Luke 4:16 and his custom.
- 36:08He came into the synagogue. He was given the book of Isaiah
- 36:12and he opened it and started reading it.
- 36:14And as he reads this, we see Exactly why he came.
- 36:21And listen, he says, the spirit of the Lord is upon me because
- 36:27he has anointed me to preach the gospel, to the poor, he sent me
- 36:31to heal the brokenhearted. To preach Deliverance to the
- 36:35captives recovery of sight to the blind to set at Liberty,
- 36:40those who are oppressed and to preach the acceptable year of
- 36:44the Lord. It sounds almost point for point
- 36:48about against what was condemned in Ezekiel. 34, this is the
- 36:52purpose of the church on the Earth today these very things.
- 36:55If this is all you spent your life doing, you would have
- 36:58invested your life very well and very eternally.
- 37:01So this is all you chose to do the rest of your life was to
- 37:04minister to the poor, and to help those that have broken
- 37:08hearts, those that are captive to try to help them released.
- 37:12Recovery of sight to the blind spiritually, and Akeley to those
- 37:18that are oppressed to lead them to Liberty and to preach the
- 37:21gospel. The good news that your sins can
- 37:23be forgiven. It's a good way to invest your
- 37:26life. That's what we invite you to
- 37:28when you serve here at this church.
- 37:31You're serving a lot of broken hurting people.
- 37:35Some of you are those broken hurting people, That has just
- 37:38been hard. Hard.
- 37:40Upbringing hard, life hard home in.
- 37:45This world is hard, but hard is always met with the hope that is
- 37:50found by faith in Jesus Christ that you are not a victim of
- 37:55your circumstances that you can be in The Potters hand, and he
- 37:59can take it all and the New Testament.
- 38:03Paul, the Apostle would say to the Roman Believers.
- 38:06He would say, we know that all things work together for the
- 38:09good, God is working all things together for the good, for those
- 38:13that love him and those that are called according to his purpose.
- 38:16And there's nothing we can do about our past, changing our
- 38:20past, you know, we can change our past as much as we can
- 38:23unscramble an egg. It's not going to happen.
- 38:26But you know what? We can move forward.
- 38:29We can live today and anticipate what God wants to do.
- 38:32Tomorrow, should he give it to us?
- 38:34So I invite you to serve, I invite you to stick around
- 38:37plug-in and let God use you in ways.
- 38:40You never ever, ever thought. I mean, some of you, I just
- 38:44think I'm just so excited. Some of you right now, a little
- 38:46card, you're going to put it in the box and that little card
- 38:50putting it in the box, is going to spark a missionary heart that
- 38:53you never knew you ever had You are no way Ed.
- 38:57Oh, yes way. Yeah.
- 38:59So what if he sends me to the middle of the Jungle somewhere?
- 39:01I don't want to go there. You still got to get to know
- 39:06God. He doesn't play games like that.
- 39:09He doesn't say in your prayer life.
- 39:11What's the one place? You would never want to go?
- 39:14I'm sending you there tomorrow God's not like that.
- 39:19Either a he'll send you a place like we're you'll send you a
- 39:22place that will bless you. But if there's a place you don't
- 39:23want to go he'll he'll gently shape and mold your heart then
- 39:26all of a sudden you're like, where are you going?
- 39:28Well, I'm going out here to the middle of the Jungle somewhere
- 39:30to preach the gospel. But you said you never wanted to
- 39:34go there and you're like I know but I want to go now.
- 39:39God's not going to be messing with your life.
- 39:42He loves you wants to use you greatly if you just trust him
- 39:47amen. So father, thank you for this
- 39:49time. I know it's beautiful and
- 39:51wonderful as we learn how to serve you and you got so much
- 39:55going on in the room today that so grateful that you know it all
- 39:59you can take care of it all and that you would just I mean,
- 40:03seriously, I mean the fact that you would even use us as amazing
- 40:06that you would shape us and mold us.
- 40:10I pray for those today that the wheel spinning out of control
- 40:12right now and they're just scared and they're mad and
- 40:17they're frustrated, you would just give Comfort peace to their
- 40:21hearts today. There's some grieving among us
- 40:25and so I pray Comfort to The Grieving Hearts, there's some
- 40:27broken heartedness or prodigal kids.
- 40:31Our breaking hearts right now. So I pray for the broken hearts
- 40:35and I pray for the prodigals. Get them home. families are
- 40:40disintegrating and Vision. Now in the homes because of the
- 40:45Gospel wasn't there before, and on, and on the list goes God, we
- 40:49commit them to you. We trust you with our lives in
