- 0:14Speaker 3: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota.com. No suspense here
- 0:21Speaker 3: with me. We are going to walk all over Pittsburgh
- 0:23Speaker 3: on Sunday. I kind of share your feeling. We're going
- 0:26Speaker 3: to take what?
- 0:26Speaker 4: I wish I could get into a nice 45-minute argument,
- 0:30Speaker 4: have Mike just laugh at.
- 0:31Speaker 5: Us off to the side.
- 0:32Speaker 3: You know, the narratives that are out there on sports radio.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 0:36Speaker 5: No, your show.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You and your show.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I temper the enthusiasm on my shows. And most people
- 0:41Speaker 4: agree with you, Fred.
- 0:42Speaker 6: As usual, I'm... the a-hole on the island I'm a
- 0:45Speaker 6: little bit more on a-hole island.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Too I thought scared but I thought scared it's early
- 0:50Speaker 4: in the season he doesn't know what to think he's
- 0:53Speaker 4: very timid at this.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Point I was red zone from 1 to 7.30 yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I actually like watching football I think the gap between
- 1:01Speaker 3: Locke and Darnold is a lot bigger than May and DeVito.
- 1:04Speaker 5: That doesn't mean what you think it means one member
- 1:07Speaker 5: of the show was horrifically bad really I believe it
- 1:10Speaker 5: at that and it wasn't the.
- 1:11Speaker 3: One you think is that why she was in a
- 1:12Speaker 3: bad mood no I It wasn't her either.
- 1:14Speaker 5: And it wasn't her either.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Does Seattle win the game if Sam Donald doesn't get injured?
- 1:20Speaker 7: No.
- 1:21Speaker 3: And I'll tell you why don't ever change.
- 1:23Speaker 5: That was the perfect answer. This is Patriots unfiltered presented
- 1:27Speaker 5: by toyota.com.
- 1:28Speaker 3: All right. Welcome to Patriots unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:34Speaker 3: at Gillette stadium. And that means it's picks day. Got
- 1:38Speaker 3: to hurry. So we're going to get to that at
- 1:40Speaker 3: the end of the show, our last half hour. Uh,
- 1:43Speaker 3: but in the meantime, it's Evan is Paul. It's me.
- 1:45Speaker 8: It's deuce.
- 1:46Speaker 9: It's Alex and Matt in the booth.
- 1:49Speaker 3: And, uh, We fully turned the page yesterday to the
- 1:52Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Steelers. We're going to continue doing that today with
- 1:55Speaker 3: anything else that we've learned since yesterday. We've got our
- 1:59Speaker 3: first participation report from both teams.
- 2:02Speaker 9: So we'll go over.
- 2:03Speaker 3: That, what that means, and everything else. So who wants
- 2:08Speaker 3: to start?
- 2:08Speaker 2: What's up with that participation report?
- 2:10Speaker 5: You should probably go to Evan.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Evan was out of practice yesterday.
- 2:14Speaker 5: He's the guy who actually goes to the practice.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Evan's kind of... First-hand view of everything.
- 2:20Speaker 5: I did.
- 2:21Speaker 10: And Travion Henderson, full participant.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Full.
- 2:25Speaker 5: I thought it would be limited.
- 2:27Speaker 10: Sounds like he's... tracking towards playing on Sunday. Mike Rabel
- 2:32Speaker 10: seemed pretty optimistic about it yesterday as well. A couple guys, though,
- 2:36Speaker 10: on the defense, Carlton Davis did not practice yesterday.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Neck injury.
- 2:41Speaker 10: The neck injury. And he hurt himself on a tackle
- 2:44Speaker 10: early on in the game in Seattle and was kind
- 2:46Speaker 10: of like doing this thing with his shoulder and his
- 2:50Speaker 10: neck area. So I'm thinking maybe that's where it stems from.
- 2:54Speaker 10: He came back and played in the game.
- 2:56Speaker 5: I think he only missed one play.
- 2:57Speaker 10: Yeah, and we also know Carlton Davis. Some veteran rest days,
- 3:02Speaker 10: you just kind of assume that's going to happen with
- 3:04Speaker 10: Carlton Davis. But Draymond Jones, another player that was limited officially,
- 3:10Speaker 10: we did not see him at the beginning of practice,
- 3:12Speaker 10: so he must have come out for team at the
- 3:15Speaker 10: end or middle of practice after the media had already left.
- 3:18Speaker 10: So he has a foot injury and was limited. So
- 3:21Speaker 10: Davis didn't practice at all, and Drones is limited with
- 3:24Speaker 10: the foot.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So.
- 3:26Speaker 10: We'll see about that. Those are two important players on defense.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Is the plan Davis and help on DK Metcalf for
- 3:33Speaker 3: most of the game?
- 3:35Speaker 10: I think they're going to put Gonzalez on Metcalf.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Really?
- 3:37Speaker 10: Yeah, but we'll see.
- 3:39Speaker 9: I mean, maybe.
- 3:40Speaker 10: But I think they'd probably put Gonzalez on Metcalf for
- 3:45Speaker 10: at least as much as he possibly can be. But
- 3:49Speaker 10: Pittman's not a slouch. He's a solid number two receiver.
- 3:54Speaker 10: More of a possession guy, I would say, than Metcalf,
- 3:56Speaker 10: down the field receiver. But I was expecting Davis to probably...
- 4:01Speaker 10: cover Pittman for most of this game.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And, but that is a strategy. Sometimes teams do, instead
- 4:06Speaker 3: of putting your number one on their number one, you
- 4:08Speaker 3: give your number two corner help on their number one.
- 4:11Speaker 3: And then you'd have number your number one corner, just
- 4:13Speaker 3: blanket their number two.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 10: I don't think they, you know, I haven't seen them
- 4:18Speaker 10: do a lot of that with Rabel, you know, I
- 4:21Speaker 10: used to be a Belichick thing at times, especially I
- 4:25Speaker 10: would say if they didn't feel like they truly had
- 4:27Speaker 10: like an elite number one corner, You know, like, if
- 4:29Speaker 10: it was, like, no offense, but, like, their number one
- 4:32Speaker 10: corner that year was Malcolm Butler, let's say, instead of
- 4:35Speaker 10: Ty Law. You know, like, something like that. But I
- 4:39Speaker 10: would expect, you know, Christian Gonzalez to probably see a
- 4:42Speaker 10: lot of DK. Okay.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Sounds good. And on the Patriots, well, we talked about
- 4:49Speaker 3: Trevion Henderson back. A couple guys didn't practice. What's Crown over?
- 4:56Speaker 11: Yes.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Didn't practice. Yeah, we're still.
- 5:01Speaker 10: Trying to figure out the crown over thing. He played
- 5:03Speaker 10: two snaps in the game on field goal protection, and
- 5:06Speaker 10: he has a knee injury. So not a major loss,
- 5:10Speaker 10: not a starter or anything like that. But I don't know.
- 5:13Speaker 10: He obviously got hurt on one of the two plays
- 5:16Speaker 10: that he played.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Mike, I think our boy Carlton Davis is upping it from...
- 5:21Speaker 4: you know, getting shaken up and missing a play or two.
- 5:24Speaker 4: So now he's, now he's making, missing practice.
- 5:26Speaker 5: I feel like, well, he, he did this all last
- 5:28Speaker 5: year too.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I know, that's why it's fun.
- 5:29Speaker 12: It was, uh, season ending injury every game.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 10: And, uh, him and, and, I want to say it
- 5:35Speaker 10: was Jalen Hawkins. There was two of them in the
- 5:37Speaker 10: secondary that were on the same regimen for like the
- 5:40Speaker 10: last eight weeks of the season. And it would be
- 5:42Speaker 10: like a Wednesday practice. And we were, we'd be like, no,
- 5:45Speaker 10: no Davis.
- 5:46Speaker 13: Right.
- 5:46Speaker 10: And it's like, oh yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 5: I mean like, well, I think Hawkins actually missed at
- 5:49Speaker 5: least one game.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:50Speaker 10: I'll be like, we'll see Davis on Sunday.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Like, you know, and you know what happens to Davis,
- 5:55Speaker 4: at least for me, I don't know if you guys
- 5:57Speaker 4: feel the same way. He's kind of like the boy
- 5:58Speaker 4: who cried wolf, even though it's not his fault.
- 6:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 5: I don't really take his injuries seriously.
- 6:04Speaker 14: Right.
- 6:04Speaker 2: So when he finally misses a game, you're going to be.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Like, what?
- 6:07Speaker 5: I'm going to be surprised. That's not fair.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I get it.
- 6:11Speaker 12: Paul yelling, get up.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Get up.
- 6:13Speaker 5: You're all right.
- 6:14Speaker 3: On the Steelers' side of the street, they had a.
- 6:17Speaker 3: person return. That could be a factor in the game. Yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 10: Joey Porter jr. Looks like he's going to play in
- 6:22Speaker 10: the game. And we've talked a lot about the, how
- 6:24Speaker 10: much zone coverage they played last week without him. And
- 6:27Speaker 10: he's their best man corner. So not necessarily like if
- 6:30Speaker 10: the Patriots said, AJ Brown, I think maybe it would, uh,
- 6:33Speaker 10: you know, be a bigger deal. Uh, but if they
- 6:35Speaker 10: wanted to play a little bit more man, I guess
- 6:38Speaker 10: having Porter jr. Back would like allow them to do that.
- 6:40Speaker 10: But the other one that I thought was more notable
- 6:42Speaker 10: was Troy fought, knew they're starting left tackled in practice yesterday. Uh,
- 6:47Speaker 10: He has an ankle injury, so we'll see if he's
- 6:50Speaker 10: back out there today. But it sounds like Porter Jr.
- 6:53Speaker 10: is going to play. That's what everybody's saying in Pittsburgh.
- 6:57Speaker 3: He's in a little bit of a contract issue over there.
- 7:01Speaker 3: He is.
- 7:01Speaker 10: He's the same draft class as Gonzalez. So he's extension eligible,
- 7:05Speaker 10: just like Christian Gonzalez was. And he still doesn't have
- 7:09Speaker 10: a new deal. Now, he's not as good of a
- 7:10Speaker 10: player as Witherspoon and Christian Gonzalez, but still a pretty
- 7:14Speaker 10: good player. Definitely a good enough player to extend, but
- 7:19Speaker 10: they still haven't signed him to a contract extension. So
- 7:22Speaker 10: he has a back injury. Is that a back injury
- 7:25Speaker 10: or is that, you know, a real back injury?
- 7:27Speaker 4: And on the report, it's listed as conditioning, not injury
- 7:31Speaker 4: related conditioning.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:33Speaker 4: So that's, well, I think it's part of the, what
- 7:38Speaker 4: Evan just explained. It's kind of negotiation. I think Porter
- 7:41Speaker 4: is holding in the team. Doesn't really think he's hurt.
- 7:46Speaker 4: I don't know if he's going to play. Let's put
- 7:48Speaker 4: it that way.
- 7:49Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 7:51Speaker 5: I think he will based on him being at practice
- 7:53Speaker 5: on a Wednesday, but we'll see.
- 7:55Speaker 10: It sounded like McCarthy, and maybe it's gamesmanship.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I agree.
- 7:59Speaker 5: It sounded like he was going to play.
- 8:00Speaker 10: Put a little pressure on him because he said that
- 8:04Speaker 10: was my decision to hold him out last week. Just
- 8:05Speaker 10: thought precautionary. Didn't want to push it so early in
- 8:08Speaker 10: the season. Basically, I expect him to play Sunday. He
- 8:12Speaker 10: said that on Monday or Tuesday. Was he a full
- 8:14Speaker 10: participant in training camp and everything? Or was he limited there, too?
- 8:18Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 8:19Speaker 10: I think towards the end, this back injury started to
- 8:22Speaker 10: pop up, and there's a lot of trade rumors around
- 8:25Speaker 10: him right now because they don't have an extension done.
- 8:27Speaker 10: So there's some people that think that they're not even
- 8:29Speaker 10: going to give it to him and that they're going
- 8:31Speaker 10: to look to move him. So this is all the
- 8:33Speaker 10: things that we talked about with Christian Gonzalez that got
- 8:36Speaker 10: put to bed when they gave him the extension before
- 8:38Speaker 10: week one. This is all applying to Joey Porter Jr.
- 8:41Speaker 8: Right now.
- 8:41Speaker 4: And the negotiations, just to give people some numbers, just
- 8:45Speaker 4: because it's fresh with Gonzalez signing his deal I guess
- 8:49Speaker 4: he's looking for guarantees similar to Witherspoon and Gonzalez. So,
- 8:55Speaker 4: you know, 50, let's just call it 55 million-ish.
- 8:58Speaker 5: I think Witherspoon got 59.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Gonzalez got like 53 in those first two years. And
- 9:04Speaker 4: I think the Steelers have offered him 33. So that's
- 9:10Speaker 4: a big gap. You know, we're not talking about a
- 9:12Speaker 4: couple of million here and there.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I heard their owner came out and said, we've offered
- 9:15Speaker 3: him the fourth largest cornerback in history.
- 9:18Speaker 5: You just can't help yourself.
- 9:20Speaker 10: I mean, like I said, he's not as good of
- 9:22Speaker 10: a player as those two guys, as Witherspoon and Gonzalez.
- 9:25Speaker 3: He's not.
- 9:25Speaker 5: He's not on that level.
- 9:26Speaker 10: He's a very good press man corner. Like, he's a
- 9:29Speaker 10: good man coverage player, but he's not Christian Gonzalez. So
- 9:33Speaker 10: I think that's the problem that they're having is that
- 9:35Speaker 10: he views himself like he's in that tier and he
- 9:38Speaker 10: wants to be paid like he's in that tier. But
- 9:40Speaker 10: I think the Steelers are like, you know, you're not.
- 9:43Speaker 2: In that tier.
- 9:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 10: Maybe you're like top 10, 12, not top five, you know,
- 9:48Speaker 10: type of corner.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Okay. So that's the participation report for both teams. And
- 9:55Speaker 3: obviously we'll get another one today and a final one
- 9:57Speaker 3: on Friday and then on Sunday.
- 10:00Speaker 10: Saturday, Evan will have his late stretch. Roster elevation. Yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 10: so Wijnowski is going to be one, so we know that.
- 10:09Speaker 10: The punter is going to have to be one. He
- 10:12Speaker 10: only has two more, so I'm interested to see what
- 10:13Speaker 10: they do for the last couple of weeks without Behringer
- 10:17Speaker 10: once they get to that point. The other one, if
- 10:20Speaker 10: Henderson's playing, it was Land Larrison last week.
- 10:24Speaker 8: Right.
- 10:24Speaker 10: But if Henderson's playing, you have Corey Conner and Henderson
- 10:28Speaker 10: on the roster, so you don't need to elevate another
- 10:30Speaker 10: running back if Henderson's healthy. So maybe one of those
- 10:34Speaker 10: veteran defensive players, KJ Britt, Kendall Vildor, if they want
- 10:38Speaker 10: to use it, they don't have to use it.
- 10:41Speaker 4: I think Vildor might make some sense if you are
- 10:43Speaker 4: worried at all about Carlton Davis.
- 10:46Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 5: See, I'm not the only one who does it, Mike.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I just wanted the coaching staff to look at that
- 10:52Speaker 2: and be like, what is it now?
- 10:53Speaker 10: Well, he made the tackle in the first quarter. I
- 10:55Speaker 10: know the play. He was down on one knee, and
- 10:58Speaker 10: he was going like dizzy.
- 10:59Speaker 8: Like, ah.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I remember he walked off, and everybody on the chat
- 11:03Speaker 3: was like, oh, he's got a stinger.
- 11:04Speaker 10: Yeah, I was like, oh, he'll be back. I didn't
- 11:07Speaker 10: even bat an eye. Carlton Davis.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Okay. And then in terms of the practice itself, how did–
- 11:16Speaker 3: What was the mood out there?
- 11:18Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 10: Oh, you know, we don't really see a lot this
- 11:21Speaker 10: time of year. So I think the mood was the
- 11:23Speaker 10: same as it always is. We didn't really see, you know, much.
- 11:27Speaker 10: We're obviously not seeing team drills or anything like that.
- 11:29Speaker 9: Well, I'm not talking about the players. I'm talking about
- 11:31Speaker 9: the media.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Of course.
- 11:34Speaker 10: I would say the one little, if you want a
- 11:36Speaker 10: little bit of grousing, the one grousing that's going on
- 11:40Speaker 10: is that they're putting a lot of players in scout
- 11:43Speaker 10: team numbers already. like, right out of the gate. So
- 11:49Speaker 10: instead of having them, like, put on a penny or
- 11:51Speaker 10: put on the number, they just kind of expedite the
- 11:54Speaker 10: process and they just come out of the locker room
- 11:57Speaker 10: in their scout team jersey. So then when we're taking attendance,
- 12:00Speaker 10: we have to figure out, you know, okay.
- 12:03Speaker 16: Like, is.
- 12:04Speaker 10: The horror.
- 12:05Speaker 5: There's a.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I didn't know that.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Have they always done that? Yes. I did notice that
- 12:12Speaker 5: last week.
- 12:12Speaker 12: Are you also complaining in person?
- 12:14Speaker 5: Well, so it's like.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Who is the head writer now that represents all of me?
- 12:21Speaker 3: Will he write a letter to Karen? Will he write
- 12:23Speaker 3: a letter to Vrabel requesting that that not be done anymore?
- 12:26Speaker 12: Or is this just the special ball knower chapter?
- 12:29Speaker 10: No, this is all of everybody because, you know, for example,
- 12:34Speaker 10: yesterday Channing Canada was wearing five. Because Jalen Ramsey is five.
- 12:40Speaker 10: So he's emulating Jalen Ramsey on the show team, as
- 12:43Speaker 10: they call it. And somebody checked off five thinking that
- 12:48Speaker 10: Draymond Jones was at practice. And I looked at it
- 12:54Speaker 10: and I was like, wait a minute.
- 12:55Speaker 5: That's just poor to me.
- 12:56Speaker 10: I was like, I mean, he's nowhere near big enough
- 12:59Speaker 10: to be Draymond Jones. So I was like, that's clearly
- 13:02Speaker 10: a corner or something.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Is this a season reporter that made this?
- 13:05Speaker 10: I'm not naming names.
- 13:06Speaker 9: I'm just saying.
- 13:08Speaker 10: I'm just one of your own.
- 13:10Speaker 11: All right.
- 13:10Speaker 5: No, he doesn't want to throw anyone under the bus. Alex,
- 13:13Speaker 5: you're better than that.
- 13:14Speaker 10: Well, we can throw Alex under the bus all we want.
- 13:16Speaker 10: I mean, the other day he told me Baron Morton
- 13:18Speaker 10: was at practice and he wasn't at practice. And I
- 13:20Speaker 10: was like, he's wearing a red jersey. Like, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 10: this one, if you miss one of the quarterbacks, like,
- 13:25Speaker 10: come on.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Like, what are we doing?
- 13:27Speaker 2: That is kind of a.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Bad mistake. Yeah.
- 13:31Speaker 5: They're not.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Channing Canada not only is a defensive back as opposed
- 13:34Speaker 4: to an edge rusher, but he's a smaller defensive back.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:38Speaker 17: 260, 270.
- 13:39Speaker 9: Absolutely.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Gonzo's a pretty big corner. It's like, you know, maybe
- 13:43Speaker 5: you go, you know, edge rusher, but Channing Canada's not Gonzo.
- 13:47Speaker 3: We're going to get into a beef that somebody has
- 13:50Speaker 3: with Barth later on.
- 13:51Speaker 5: Oh, good.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Good.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Look forward to Evan throwing his best friend under the bus.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I know. So we'll get into that a little later.
- 14:00Speaker 5: It's funny when you do that.
- 14:01Speaker 10: If I didn't make fun of him, that means that
- 14:02Speaker 10: I don't care or like him. Making fun of him
- 14:06Speaker 10: is like, that's because we're friends.
- 14:07Speaker 5: You can make fun of him.
- 14:08Speaker 12: Yeah, to his face, but what about when someone else
- 14:10Speaker 12: is making fun of him?
- 14:11Speaker 5: Oh, no, absolutely not.
- 14:12Speaker 12: Do you stand up for him?
- 14:13Speaker 3: I can make fun of him because I pay him.
- 14:15Speaker 18: That's fair.
- 14:16Speaker 10: He's very happy about that, by the way.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Is that why you dump on us all the time?
- 14:21Speaker 3: Okay, and then today, obviously this practice again, who's on
- 14:26Speaker 3: the availabilities today?
- 14:27Speaker 10: The coordinators, all three.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Zach Corr.
- 14:29Speaker 10: Before practice will be Springer and McDaniels, and then after
- 14:33Speaker 10: practice will be Zach Corr. The defensive coaches are also
- 14:36Speaker 10: available after Zach Corr goes. All the defensive assistants will
- 14:40Speaker 10: speak after that.
- 14:42Speaker 9: And they usually alternate that, so next week it'll be offense.
- 14:44Speaker 10: Yes, we're getting a lot of the position coaches. Maybe
- 14:49Speaker 10: a little too much.
- 14:50Speaker 9: Why is that?
- 14:51Speaker 5: We don't get them alternate weeks all season?
- 14:55Speaker 3: When does access become too much? I'm just.
- 14:58Speaker 5: I feel... He's overwhelmed. Long time ago.
- 15:00Speaker 10: He's overstimulated. There's so many questions he wants to ask.
- 15:03Speaker 19: I don't know.
- 15:04Speaker 10: I just feel a little bit like, do we need
- 15:07Speaker 10: this every week? Like, and it's like for them, you know,
- 15:09Speaker 10: like it's, you've run out of questions at some point.
- 15:12Speaker 10: It's like, you can only ask the guy, like how
- 15:14Speaker 10: many more times am I going to ask poor Ashton
- 15:16Speaker 10: Grant about Drake May? You know, like it's every week.
- 15:19Speaker 10: It's like, all right, we got to get the update,
- 15:21Speaker 10: you know, eventually like it's just kind of, you know,
- 15:25Speaker 10: this week the defensive coaches are talking about You know,
- 15:28Speaker 10: I'm sure, like, Justin Hamilton will be very popular because
- 15:31Speaker 10: Gonzalez just signed his extension. So maybe, like, he'll, but, like,
- 15:35Speaker 10: there's not much, it's been one week, you know?
- 15:38Speaker 5: Well, I don't know.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I mean, you can go down the roster and, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 3: get updates on each player if you want, you know?
- 15:45Speaker 10: That's literally what it turns into.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 5: What have you seen from this guy?
- 15:48Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 15:48Speaker 5: How's this guy doing?
- 15:49Speaker 9: Paul gets it.
- 15:50Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 12: What have you seen?
- 15:54Speaker 10: What have you seen from player X?
- 15:57Speaker 4: And next week, we'll get to ask Todd Downing how
- 16:00Speaker 4: he's going to get by without A.J.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Brown.
- 16:02Speaker 6: That's going to be a team effort. Everybody's got to
- 16:05Speaker 6: step up. It's not going to be on one guy
- 16:07Speaker 6: just to do it. Everyone's going to have to try
- 16:10Speaker 6: to do a little bit more.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Help the team.
- 16:12Speaker 12: What have you seen from Efton?
- 16:13Speaker 4: I think the coordinators, I like that they've sort of
- 16:17Speaker 4: adjusted that because some of this stuff is kind of new-ish,
- 16:20Speaker 4: like maybe within the last five years where we're getting
- 16:22Speaker 4: more access to the entirety of the coaching staff.
- 16:26Speaker 5: The league has mandated that.
- 16:28Speaker 4: I think there's good value in talking to the coordinators.
- 16:32Speaker 4: They used to do those Tuesday conference calls back in
- 16:35Speaker 4: the day when Belichick was here. I used to find
- 16:39Speaker 4: there was value in listening to Josh McDaniels and Absolutely.
- 16:42Speaker 5: To a lesser extent, Matt, Patricia.
- 16:43Speaker 10: Especially because they're the play callers.
- 16:45Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 10: You know, they're the ones with the play sheet and
- 16:48Speaker 10: they're calling the plays.
- 16:49Speaker 4: I think for the position coaches, Fred, to your point,
- 16:52Speaker 4: I would rather it be, okay, I have something specific
- 16:55Speaker 4: in mind I want to write about Drake May.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Can I request Ashton Grant?
- 17:00Speaker 4: Because I want to talk, I mean, I have plenty
- 17:02Speaker 4: from Josh McGillis, but I'd like to maybe get someone
- 17:04Speaker 4: that might, you know, have a more personal relationship as
- 17:09Speaker 4: his quarterbacks go on upon and i can request that
- 17:12Speaker 4: as opposed to making them come out.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I'm wondering art is this mandated by the league yes
- 17:18Speaker 3: so yeah so it sounds to me like it's about
- 17:21Speaker 3: getting people aware of who these guys are you know
- 17:24Speaker 3: could be hitting them out of the cellar probably than
- 17:27Speaker 3: the light of day you're.
- 17:28Speaker 10: Probably right it could be so they originally the rule
- 17:31Speaker 10: was is that they had to be available once a
- 17:33Speaker 10: month and Bill Belichick because he's Bill Belichick used to
- 17:38Speaker 10: give us the coaches on the 31st and then on
- 17:42Speaker 10: the 1st. And then we wouldn't talk to them for
- 17:46Speaker 10: two months. And that would fulfill the obligation.
- 17:50Speaker 11: Right.
- 17:51Speaker 2: He's a crafty one.
- 17:52Speaker 5: Yeah. And Mike, you mocked that, Mike, but that's why
- 17:57Speaker 5: they won.
- 17:58Speaker 3: That's right.
- 17:59Speaker 10: Because they didn't give up any secrets to the media.
- 18:03Speaker 10: And so then somebody, I think we did, not we,
- 18:06Speaker 10: I should say they complained. about it yeah yeah yeah
- 18:11Speaker 10: yeah the the pro football writers of america uh filed
- 18:14Speaker 10: a complaint about how they used to do that and
- 18:18Speaker 10: so then he would give us them like on like
- 18:22Speaker 10: the 25th and the 5th because well you know 10
- 18:25Speaker 10: whole days in between was such a big difference uh
- 18:27Speaker 10: but that was the bill that was the bill workaround
- 18:29Speaker 10: was back-to-back days and then like the second day it'd
- 18:33Speaker 10: be like well i just talked to all these guys
- 18:34Speaker 10: yesterday i.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Remember those days well The 31st and the 1st.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Classic.
- 18:41Speaker 9: We'll just get the news on here.
- 18:43Speaker 3: They turned Fenway Park into a golf range.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Top golf.
- 18:48Speaker 3: But who's fixing all those divots?
- 18:51Speaker 5: They're not golfing on the.
- 18:53Speaker 3: No, but the ball lands and it lands. It creates
- 18:56Speaker 3: an indentation. You know, that's why. Who's going around with
- 18:59Speaker 3: that little thing and fixing all those?
- 19:00Speaker 4: It's regular grass. It's not a green that they're hitting
- 19:03Speaker 4: it on. They're hitting it on the grass. I still
- 19:04Speaker 4: don't like it.
- 19:05Speaker 5: When you drive into a fairway, you don't generally make
- 19:07Speaker 5: a divot.
- 19:08Speaker 3: So if Nick Eaton has a problem in the outfield tonight,
- 19:10Speaker 3: I'm blaming Popco.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Well, they're in Texas.
- 19:14Speaker 10: And they're having other problems right now.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Fred obviously feeling some of the heat of being 19
- 19:20Speaker 5: and 21.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Over the last 40. Don't worry about it.
- 19:25Speaker 5: I'm not worried about it.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 19:27Speaker 4: They're not on my radar in any way, shape, or form.
- 19:30Speaker 3: All right.
- 19:31Speaker 5: You know what I am kind of psyched about? Like,
- 19:33Speaker 5: you started the show. It's, like, Thursday.
- 19:36Speaker 4: We got coordinators coming. Like, settling into a normal week.
- 19:40Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 19:41Speaker 9: Not a Wednesday game.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Yeah, we're back to our three-days show schedule, which I
- 19:45Speaker 4: love because I love this show. You know, Evan gives
- 19:48Speaker 4: us the flavor from the practice. And you're going to
- 19:51Speaker 4: hear from the coordinators later. You might get a little
- 19:53Speaker 4: something different.
- 19:54Speaker 12: You know.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Kind of getting into that routine. I like the routine.
- 19:58Speaker 5: I'm a creature of habit, Fred. I like the routine.
- 20:00Speaker 2: It's nice to have things to talk about.
- 20:01Speaker 5: Sunday at 1.
- 20:02Speaker 6: You have interesting topics each day. Like in the off season,
- 20:05Speaker 6: you might have to just find it.
- 20:06Speaker 2: As we always do. We do. I mean, but.
- 20:09Speaker 9: Well, you know, he comes in.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Do my crossword.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Hits the men's room.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Alex makes fun of me.
- 20:14Speaker 3: You know, morning business. Then he does his crossword.
- 20:16Speaker 12: He chats with various people that come to visit him.
- 20:18Speaker 5: I don't come in and hit the men's room.
- 20:20Speaker 3: No?
- 20:20Speaker 5: That's incorrect. First of all, I would never hit the
- 20:23Speaker 5: men's room here unless it was a dire emergency.
- 20:27Speaker 3: So are you one of those people?
- 20:28Speaker 16: Yes.
- 20:29Speaker 3: So how do you cope with.
- 20:30Speaker 9: Having to go to the bathroom?
- 20:32Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I think we're talking about the bathroom specifically, right?
- 20:36Speaker 3: Number two. Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 5: Not here.
- 20:38Speaker 12: You don't have a special one? That you go to?
- 20:41Speaker 5: In dire emergencies, I'll go to the locker room. The
- 20:43Speaker 5: men's locker room.
- 20:44Speaker 12: The one that's next to us, it would.
- 20:46Speaker 5: I would never do that.
- 20:47Speaker 8: No.
- 20:47Speaker 10: No, you're not allowed to do that.
- 20:48Speaker 5: I would never ever do that.
- 20:50Speaker 12: It's like an unwritten rule.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Is it unwritten? Oh, you can't do that.
- 20:53Speaker 9: That's like... microwaving fish in the break room.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Don't do it.
- 20:57Speaker 10: No, it's an unwritten rule.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Shout out Nick.
- 20:59Speaker 12: Even number one there.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Love you, mean it.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Hope you're doing well down in Texas.
- 21:04Speaker 3: You gotta find one with ventilation that's away from you.
- 21:08Speaker 6: Have you guys ever gone to the one right here
- 21:10Speaker 6: to the left that's just a solo bathroom right in
- 21:12Speaker 6: the tunnel and it's probably the worst smelling place in
- 21:14Speaker 6: the whole city?
- 21:15Speaker 10: And I don't think it locks.
- 21:17Speaker 3: It doesn't lock.
- 21:18Speaker 12: And it's used by anyone and everyone.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Wait.
- 21:21Speaker 5: This one over next to us.
- 21:22Speaker 8: No, no, no.
- 21:22Speaker 9: Out in the tunnel.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Oh, right in the tunnel. It's right out in the tunnel.
- 21:25Speaker 5: That one is such a tough one.
- 21:26Speaker 3: That's a break bus.
- 21:26Speaker 5: It would have to be a dire emergency.
- 21:28Speaker 2: In case of emergency.
- 21:28Speaker 6: But sometimes when there's a concert going on here, they're
- 21:30Speaker 6: going to shoot you if you go into this room
- 21:32Speaker 6: right next to us.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Like, you can't even look at the door.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Men's locker room. Men's locker room would be. It's a
- 21:36Speaker 5: way to go.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 9: Did I tell you about my trauma?
- 21:38Speaker 2: You got a key to the broadcast booth. Just grab
- 21:40Speaker 2: the key.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Go up to the broadcast booth.
- 21:42Speaker 3: You'll be solo.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Is that Zoe's private throne up there?
- 21:44Speaker 3: I haven't gotten this before.
- 21:45Speaker 12: Back to French trauma.
- 21:46Speaker 10: I'm not going to lie.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Did I tell you about what happened to me in
- 21:49Speaker 3: first grade?
- 21:50Speaker 2: No, what?
- 21:51Speaker 3: First grade, St. Raymond's in Providence. During lunch, I'm in
- 21:55Speaker 3: the bathroom. You know, it's a big men's room and
- 21:57Speaker 3: I'm in... stall doing my thing. And these older kids
- 22:01Speaker 3: knock open the door and start laughing at me.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 22:04Speaker 3: And so ever since then, like, you know, I got
- 22:07Speaker 3: to make sure that there's a solid, you know, latch
- 22:09Speaker 3: on that door.
- 22:10Speaker 13: Oh, man.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. That can be traumatizing.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I get that.
- 22:15Speaker 3: A little first grader.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Everybody poops.
- 22:16Speaker 12: Did they break the lock on you or you just
- 22:18Speaker 12: didn't lock it?
- 22:18Speaker 3: They just kicked the door open. I don't know. It
- 22:20Speaker 3: might not have been fully latched or whatever first grade
- 22:23Speaker 3: first grade.
- 22:24Speaker 6: Well i said it too i had a traumatic experience
- 22:26Speaker 6: in first grade where i got well i don't know
- 22:27Speaker 6: if i actually did i can't remember but they said
- 22:29Speaker 6: i flooded the toilets but i and i just stuffed
- 22:32Speaker 6: toilet paper down the toilet and then flushed them and
- 22:35Speaker 6: then like my mom was like no you told me
- 22:36Speaker 6: you did and i remember going in and there was
- 22:38Speaker 6: a kid in there who did it and was like
- 22:40Speaker 6: showing me how to do it and i was like
- 22:42Speaker 6: i'm not gonna do this i went back to class
- 22:43Speaker 6: and then Mike, the principal, came in.
- 22:45Speaker 3: He blamed it on you.
- 22:46Speaker 12: I think so.
- 22:47Speaker 5: I don't know for sure.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I might have blacked out because my mom was like, no,
- 22:50Speaker 2: you told me you did. And I'm like, I don't
- 22:52Speaker 2: know if I did. But first grade traumatic bathroom experiences, Fred.
- 22:55Speaker 2: We got them both.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Anyone else?
- 22:56Speaker 10: I threw up on the bus. Third grade.
- 22:59Speaker 2: It's common.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:01Speaker 10: I got like motion sickness from the bus or whatever.
- 23:04Speaker 10: Very embarrassing.
- 23:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 2: That's bad.
- 23:06Speaker 5: You just have to live in the city and just
- 23:07Speaker 5: walk to school.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's nice.
- 23:09Speaker 5: You know.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I had a bus one, too, though.
- 23:11Speaker 6: I was getting off the bus in, like, seventh grade,
- 23:12Speaker 6: and a kid chucked a wad of gum, and it
- 23:15Speaker 6: got me right in the back of the hair.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And I had to go to the nurse, and the nurse, like,
- 23:18Speaker 2: just cut it out. Like, she just, like, you know,
- 23:21Speaker 2: she wasn't worried about my hairstyle at all.
- 23:23Speaker 10: That's not as traumatic as.
- 23:24Speaker 3: So you walk around the rest of the day looking
- 23:26Speaker 3: like he's from Arkansas.
- 23:27Speaker 5: Just start calling you Patrick.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Right in the back.
- 23:31Speaker 2: You know, you're walking off the bus, you're in the line,
- 23:33Speaker 2: and all of a sudden you just feel like.
- 23:35Speaker 12: These kids are out to get you, I think.
- 23:37Speaker 9: Appalachian deuce.
- 23:38Speaker 10: Look at old Patches over here.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Patches old man.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Shut up.
- 23:43Speaker 10: He's got a target on his back.
- 23:47Speaker 3: All right. 855-PATS-500 is the hotline. Podcasts at Patriots.com is
- 23:52Speaker 3: the email address. We're going to get into picks. I've
- 23:56Speaker 3: already made it clear what my pick is for the Patriots.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Anybody have any changes of opinion from last, from yesterday
- 24:06Speaker 3: about this, how this game is going to turn out.
- 24:08Speaker 4: So a matter of fact, you know, I happened to
- 24:09Speaker 4: catch Deuce on one of my shows this morning.
- 24:12Speaker 3: I heard you.
- 24:12Speaker 5: And he was kind of poking fun at you and I.
- 24:15Speaker 3: A little bit, a little bit.
- 24:16Speaker 5: You know, like not quite as confident as, you know,
- 24:18Speaker 5: some of.
- 24:19Speaker 3: The other guys.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Well, I was being honest. Yeah, that's true.
- 24:22Speaker 5: He's kind of taking shots at us.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I thought my best shots were at Andy.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Like whistling past the graveyard? I don't think so.
- 24:27Speaker 3: So, but that's the other thing. So not to, you know, divert,
- 24:31Speaker 3: Too much. But Andy Hart was hosting the show this morning. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 3: And Hardy was adamant that he was not working for
- 24:42Speaker 3: us after in Minneapolis when we had that Super Bowl.
- 24:45Speaker 3: And he was.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I don't know where Hardy blacked out. Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 4: I thought that he was saying that once Deuce came...
- 24:53Speaker 4: Andy was saying that he.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Wasn't here yet. Oh, no, no, no.
- 24:56Speaker 2: And he left him like Mayesh.
- 24:57Speaker 5: And I got here.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Like, as a matter of fact, Andy didn't even leave
- 25:01Speaker 3: till the next year.
- 25:02Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 5: He left after the last 18 Superbowl.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 7: Right.
- 25:06Speaker 3: That was his last year.
- 25:07Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 17: Okay.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I was, that wasn't Minnesota.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Andy was claiming that you didn't replace him, that you
- 25:11Speaker 5: guys worked.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Andy's last day was May 29th, 2019.
- 25:14Speaker 2: The day my son was born.
- 25:15Speaker 16: 2019.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 25:16Speaker 13: Oh, wow.
- 25:16Speaker 9: That's weird.
- 25:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:18Speaker 3: So the last time it was the 18 Superbowl.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Right.
- 25:20Speaker 20: Right.
- 25:20Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that was it.
- 25:24Speaker 9: He left after that Super Bowl.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Hardy's got a lot of shows, Fred, and it's music.
- 25:27Speaker 5: He's got a lot of jobs.
- 25:28Speaker 10: There's a lot of things in his head. I don't
- 25:31Speaker 10: care for the subtle jabs that, well, back when you
- 25:35Speaker 10: were in-house media, stuff like that. I'm like, what are
- 25:39Speaker 10: we doing?
- 25:40Speaker 5: Listen, 28 years I've been dealing with this. Just embrace it. Evan,
- 25:44Speaker 5: sing a song.
- 25:44Speaker 3: I got news for you. You work for in-house media.
- 25:48Speaker 10: Well, yeah, but there's like a tone to it.
- 25:50Speaker 3: And that's fine. I don't like it.
- 25:53Speaker 10: I'm owning it right now by saying I don't like it.
- 25:55Speaker 3: I always embrace it. What Andy used to always say
- 25:58Speaker 3: when people would make fun of me, he goes, all right,
- 26:00Speaker 3: what's your excuse? Because they're just as biased as you are.
- 26:03Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 26:04Speaker 5: They're a lot more biased than we are.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Right. So don't let them get to you.
- 26:08Speaker 5: And when I say they, I don't mean every single
- 26:10Speaker 5: one of them. I say a lot of them.
- 26:11Speaker 10: They're not getting to me.
- 26:13Speaker 3: It sounds like they are a little bit.
- 26:15Speaker 2: No, they're not.
- 26:16Speaker 5: He's got a little Brian Morey to him. I'm not mad,
- 26:20Speaker 5: but I'm going to get him.
- 26:20Speaker 10: Yeah, you know I like a good fight.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Okay. All right. Should we get to the callers and emailers?
- 26:27Speaker 3: Or do we have anything to say about this game?
- 26:30Speaker 3: I can talk a little about this game. I just,
- 26:31Speaker 3: Devin and I did our preview, and I looked back
- 26:34Speaker 3: last year. I mean, they just didn't pressure Rodgers at
- 26:36Speaker 3: all last year.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I mean, he carved them up.
- 26:38Speaker 6: And I think that's, to me, the big key is
- 26:41Speaker 6: just getting him off the spot, getting him uncomfortable. I
- 26:43Speaker 6: think he is a little bit better on the move,
- 26:45Speaker 6: and they might give up some plays with him on
- 26:46Speaker 6: the move, but I just think it's a non-starter if
- 26:49Speaker 6: you let him drop back quick, get the ball out
- 26:51Speaker 6: under 2.5 seconds.
- 26:53Speaker 4: One thing that has me a little worried in terms
- 26:56Speaker 4: of my pick, because you guys know I'm with Fred
- 26:59Speaker 4: on I think this is a win, the Patriots' ability
- 27:04Speaker 4: to stop the run my confidence in that has been
- 27:08Speaker 4: shaken a little bit, you know, sort of down the
- 27:10Speaker 4: stretch last year. I kind of chalked it up to
- 27:12Speaker 4: Milton Williams, his absence, but then we saw it a
- 27:15Speaker 4: little bit, you know, obviously in the super bowl. And
- 27:17Speaker 4: then I thought even Monday night, uh, last Wednesday night,
- 27:22Speaker 4: there was some signs that I thought price looked pretty good.
- 27:25Speaker 4: So I don't know how good the Pittsburgh offensive line is.
- 27:29Speaker 4: I know it's kind of average in terms of the
- 27:31Speaker 4: rate rating rankings and whatnot, but, If they can get
- 27:35Speaker 4: Jalen Warren and Rico Dowdle going and not put Rodgers
- 27:41Speaker 4: in harm's way, I would have a little concern about that.
- 27:44Speaker 4: I don't know if they're capable of running the ball
- 27:46Speaker 4: all that well. I don't think they ran it great
- 27:48Speaker 4: against Atlanta. You guys would know more than I would.
- 27:50Speaker 10: Um, they do have both those tight ends though. And they,
- 27:53Speaker 10: you know, they like to, Mike keeps talking about, I
- 27:55Speaker 10: like to use a lot of them, you know, they're,
- 27:57Speaker 10: they're trying to play more three receiver this year than
- 27:59Speaker 10: they were last year. Last year, they were 31st in
- 28:01Speaker 10: the league and three receiver usage. Uh, they were up
- 28:04Speaker 10: about 20% in week one because they have Pittman now.
- 28:06Speaker 10: So they're, They're trying to play a little bit more three-receiver,
- 28:09Speaker 10: throw the ball a little bit further down the field,
- 28:11Speaker 10: I assume, is the.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Reason for that.
- 28:15Speaker 10: But Darnell Washington's basically an extra offensive lineman when he's
- 28:19Speaker 10: on the field. He's a beast. He's a really good blocker.
- 28:23Speaker 10: He's a good underneath outlet that can kind of rumble
- 28:27Speaker 10: and break tackles with the ball in his hands, Gronk style.
- 28:31Speaker 10: They can put a lot of size on the field.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you who my sneaky most important person
- 28:38Speaker 3: on defense will be for the Patriots.
- 28:40Speaker 9: Charles Woodson. Craig Woodson.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Craig Woodson.
- 28:44Speaker 10: Two different people.
- 28:45Speaker 12: Charles Woodson.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Craig Woodson. That one's a little tricky. Because I think
- 28:51Speaker 3: they're going to have to play.
- 28:52Speaker 9: They're going to.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Have to get closer to the line. Rogers is going
- 28:59Speaker 3: to try to get the ball out of his hands
- 29:00Speaker 3: quickly in these two, three, four, five-yard plays. And I
- 29:04Speaker 3: think Woodson coming up and defending against that is going
- 29:08Speaker 3: to be a big factor in this game.
- 29:11Speaker 10: I think that in also covering the tight ends in man-to-man,
- 29:14Speaker 10: I think they're going to want to play man-to-man. that's
- 29:16Speaker 10: how you get a quarterback to hold the ball is
- 29:18Speaker 10: you get up in the receiver's faces and you disrupt
- 29:20Speaker 10: them off the line and you make it so that
- 29:22Speaker 10: the receivers can't get open quickly so that the quarterback
- 29:25Speaker 10: has to hold the football. And last year, you know,
- 29:27Speaker 10: watching back the game from last year, Marte Mapu is
- 29:30Speaker 10: playing a lot on the tight end in that game.
- 29:32Speaker 10: He's not even here anymore. So, you know, who's going
- 29:34Speaker 10: to be the guys at Woodson? Uh, I don't think
- 29:37Speaker 10: it's going to be Bayard. Is it Del Pettis or
- 29:39Speaker 10: Jalen Reed? Is he ready to play a bigger role? Uh,
- 29:42Speaker 10: you know, when they do run those spread formations on
- 29:45Speaker 10: third down and Pat Friermuth is basically in the slot,
- 29:49Speaker 10: you know, who's going to cover him man to man,
- 29:51Speaker 10: I think is a question going into this game. Cause
- 29:54Speaker 10: I think they match up really well against their receivers,
- 29:57Speaker 10: but the three corners, but You know, the tight end,
- 29:59Speaker 10: the back out of the backfield, like those are going
- 30:01Speaker 10: to be in offensively for Pittsburgh, the guys that could
- 30:05Speaker 10: make a difference in the game.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Like if they go to tight ends, just sort of
- 30:09Speaker 4: thinking off the top of my head, do you worry
- 30:12Speaker 4: that that takes Marcus Jones off the field? Because Marcus
- 30:14Speaker 4: Jones could take Roman Wilson. I think that makes a
- 30:16Speaker 4: lot of sense. I like that matchup from Marcus Jones.
- 30:19Speaker 4: But if you go to tight ends and then you
- 30:21Speaker 4: have Pittman and Metcalf, those are two big receivers. There's
- 30:23Speaker 4: really no one for Jones to cover.
- 30:25Speaker 10: Yeah, probably. And I think, you know, just in general,
- 30:28Speaker 10: that that's sort of how they play. They have like
- 30:31Speaker 10: early down run base personnel with the tight ends. And
- 30:34Speaker 10: then they have like a spread formation where Rogers is
- 30:37Speaker 10: in the gun and the three receivers are on the field.
- 30:39Speaker 9: And who's the other huge receiver that they have?
- 30:42Speaker 3: Metcalf.
- 30:43Speaker 5: No, the other. Michael Pittman.
- 30:45Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 30:45Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I thought there was a guy like 6'7.
- 30:49Speaker 5: He's a tight end. Darnell Washington. That's what we're saying.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Two tight ends with two big receivers. That's four guys
- 30:56Speaker 5: of size that I don't necessarily like Marcus Jones.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Matching up with. And that goes back to talking about
- 31:01Speaker 2: this season. Are they stuck in nickel?
- 31:03Speaker 6: And again, love Marcus Jones, but he is 5'8. And
- 31:08Speaker 6: in certain matchups like this, I mean, you saw it
- 31:10Speaker 6: last week against Seattle. They were pulling him off the
- 31:12Speaker 6: field more than they did last year.
- 31:13Speaker 5: And if I remember.
- 31:14Speaker 4: And I probably don't have it perfect because, you know, CTE.
- 31:18Speaker 4: I think they took a couple of shots in the
- 31:20Speaker 4: red zone to Washington trying to get him on Marcus
- 31:23Speaker 4: Jones last year.
- 31:24Speaker 5: I don't think that it worked. But that's just something
- 31:28Speaker 5: to sort of keep in mind.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I think there may have been even a penalty on
- 31:30Speaker 4: one of them that gave them a fresh set of
- 31:32Speaker 4: downs and they ended up scoring on it. If you
- 31:35Speaker 4: want to sit in zone all day against Aaron Rodgers, that's,
- 31:39Speaker 4: I don't think, a great idea.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I think you.
- 31:44Speaker 10: Those were the two throws that Rodgers made last year
- 31:50Speaker 10: against them. A go ball to Metcalf and a go
- 31:52Speaker 10: ball to Calvin Austin. That won the game. It was
- 31:56Speaker 10: the game winner. And he basically didn't make any plays
- 31:59Speaker 10: outside of those two plays.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I agree.
- 32:00Speaker 10: But they were two big plays in the game that
- 32:02Speaker 10: tilted it in their favor. When I looked at, you know,
- 32:05Speaker 10: you look at Pittsburgh, that's the one thing that stands
- 32:08Speaker 10: out about them offensively is that they're big. They have,
- 32:11Speaker 10: they have real size. Now those guys don't run very well,
- 32:14Speaker 10: but they have real size at the skill position players positions,
- 32:18Speaker 10: especially at wide receiver for like a, you know, teams
- 32:22Speaker 10: don't normally have two big dudes like Metcalf and Pittman.
- 32:25Speaker 10: So they can do that. They can get on size
- 32:29Speaker 10: on the field. And the guy I circled Jalen Reed,
- 32:32Speaker 10: like is Jalen Reed ready to play a bigger role
- 32:35Speaker 10: this week, you know, as he onboarded, is he up
- 32:37Speaker 10: to speed because no offense, but didn't go so well
- 32:40Speaker 10: for Del Pettis last week in that, you know, nickelback
- 32:43Speaker 10: role that Paul's talking about taking Marcus Jones off the field.
- 32:46Speaker 10: I think they need to be able to play that
- 32:48Speaker 10: big nickel package. They need to have somebody that's a
- 32:51Speaker 10: little bit bigger and a little sturdier than Marcus Jones
- 32:54Speaker 10: that can play against these two tight ends. But that,
- 32:57Speaker 10: you know, is Jalen Reed ready to play, you know,
- 32:59Speaker 10: is he up to speed on the defense and do
- 33:02Speaker 10: they feel comfortable putting them on the field?
- 33:04Speaker 6: Yep.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Okay.
- 33:07Speaker 9: Anything else?
- 33:08Speaker 6: Shots to DK. Watch the shots to DK. I think
- 33:10Speaker 6: Aaron Rodgers said it yesterday. He said, I'm going to
- 33:12Speaker 6: keep throwing it up to him. So I think that's,
- 33:14Speaker 6: you know, and I just think Pittman's kind of becoming
- 33:16Speaker 6: more of the chain mover guy. So it just puts
- 33:18Speaker 6: a little bit more on Carlton Davis.
- 33:20Speaker 2: I like what.
- 33:20Speaker 6: Evan was saying. You know, I think it's going to
- 33:22Speaker 6: be Gonzo on DK. You've got to take those big
- 33:24Speaker 6: plays away. Um, but you know, Carlton Davis, it can
- 33:26Speaker 6: be like, he can go out and hurt sometimes, you.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Know, and is he ready to kind of handle Charles Woods,
- 33:31Speaker 4: you know, ends up being Charles Woods on Pittman.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:34Speaker 5: That could be, that's why I think Vildor might.
- 33:36Speaker 10: Pittman's a Paul type of guy.
- 33:38Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 33:39Speaker 10: The guy that Paul doesn't like.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 10: Because he's like a hundred catches for a thousand yards
- 33:43Speaker 10: every year.
- 33:44Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 33:44Speaker 3: He's right.
- 33:44Speaker 5: Right.
- 33:45Speaker 8: Right.
- 33:45Speaker 5: Like it's not explosive.
- 33:49Speaker 3: It's not explosive. I'm asleep. And I'm like, please give
- 33:51Speaker 3: me that.
- 33:52Speaker 10: Like this guy is like, how many slants can I
- 33:54Speaker 10: watch one guy run when I, you know, but it's that, that,
- 33:58Speaker 10: that type of player. But you know, they really are
- 34:01Speaker 10: hoping that Roman Wilson is going to emerge in his
- 34:04Speaker 10: third year. They're hoping that he has a breakout season and,
- 34:07Speaker 10: They let Calvin Austin walk. He, he went to the
- 34:09Speaker 10: giants and they're kind of hoping that it.
- 34:12Speaker 4: Seemed like they targeted Roman Wilson more in that game
- 34:14Speaker 4: last week than they have.
- 34:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:18Speaker 10: But like on go, on go routes and fades and
- 34:20Speaker 10: stuff down the field. It's, I don't think that like
- 34:22Speaker 10: winning the ball at the catch point, it's not really
- 34:24Speaker 10: his game.
- 34:25Speaker 2: No, the three guys make sense.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I mean, I do.
- 34:27Speaker 5: Yeah. That's why I like Evans. I, I, with you, Mike,
- 34:30Speaker 5: I like Evan's idea of Gonzo on Metcalf because.
- 34:32Speaker 4: He, he can break the game open. He's a pretty
- 34:35Speaker 4: good player and he played an awful game.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 5: And I think when you have a guy that plays
- 34:39Speaker 5: that badly, he's probably going to respond. Yeah. He's been
- 34:42Speaker 5: a pretty good player throughout his career.
- 34:44Speaker 4: He's not going to drop, you know, a number of
- 34:46Speaker 4: catchable passes again, but it might not matter because Gonzo
- 34:51Speaker 4: might just win the matchup.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 5: And he might not be as open as he was
- 34:53Speaker 5: last because he should have made some plays last week.
- 34:56Speaker 6: Can I say one more thing? I just interested how
- 34:58Speaker 6: Daquan Jones goes in. Like, you know, it's just simple
- 35:00Speaker 6: as Lenny T's out and he's in, but Is he
- 35:03Speaker 6: now the nose tackle over Durden? It's a subtle thing,
- 35:06Speaker 6: but I'm interested to see how they use him.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Email says, I heard you're changing the timing of the
- 35:11Speaker 3: show next week. Well, not just next week. For the
- 35:14Speaker 3: rest of the season, we're going to be 11-1 Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 35:19Speaker 3: and Thursday instead of 12-2. So 11-1, that's because of
- 35:22Speaker 3: the locker room availability. We want to make sure everyone
- 35:25Speaker 3: has a chance to go in and talk to the
- 35:27Speaker 3: guys and make sure that they're motivated and the morale
- 35:33Speaker 3: and all that. So we'll be 11-1 on Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 35:36Speaker 3: and Thursday. But he says, I think this means that
- 35:38Speaker 3: you won't be playing Mike or Evan's songs anymore. That
- 35:41Speaker 3: is a travesty. Please rework the lyrics so that we
- 35:45Speaker 3: can still hear those songs.
- 35:47Speaker 9: I mean, what are we going to do if we
- 35:49Speaker 9: don't sing about Derrick Henry?
- 35:50Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 35:51Speaker 12: I forgot about that unintended consequence.
- 35:53Speaker 9: Yeah, everything's domino effect.
- 35:54Speaker 6: I mean, I do have a song that's just generally
- 35:58Speaker 6: about me and not going to the locker room.
- 36:00Speaker 2: You know, it's just, hey, here we go. This one,
- 36:03Speaker 2: you know. So, I mean, you could still play that.
- 36:05Speaker 22: His co-pilot intro music.
- 36:09Speaker 10: We haven't played the practice song in like two years
- 36:12Speaker 10: because they've been practicing at this time. of last season too,
- 36:16Speaker 10: so it's been a while.
- 36:17Speaker 9: We'll have to come up with some new songs, Pat Moreau.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 36:21Speaker 18: This one's for Mike Dussault. Yeah, here we go. This
- 36:27Speaker 18: one's for Mike Dussault.
- 36:28Speaker 21: He made his name in blogging, and he's a youth
- 36:31Speaker 21: hockey referee.
- 36:33Speaker 18: Don't you ever forget those 28-3 tees. He's last in
- 36:39Speaker 18: the picks. And he's sneaky negative. But he knows his
- 36:43Speaker 18: hoodies and he knows them good. Did you know that
- 36:46Speaker 18: he used to live in Hollywood?
- 36:48Speaker 21: Okay.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 36:50Speaker 12: This one's for Mike to sew.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 36:55Speaker 18: This one's for Mike Dressel.
- 36:57Speaker 9: I think that might be the best one.
- 36:59Speaker 2: That is the best one.
- 37:00Speaker 3: It's catchy.
- 37:01Speaker 2: I'm not just saying that.
- 37:02Speaker 12: The bridge to that last chorus.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Sneaky negative.
- 37:06Speaker 12: That's the best part of it.
- 37:07Speaker 5: Such a chef's kiss.
- 37:08Speaker 2: That was great.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Good stuff. Good stuff. All right. 855-PASS-500 is the hotline.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Podcasts at Patriots.com is the email address. Let's hit the phones.
- 37:19Speaker 3: We're going to go to Brian and Lowell first. What's up, Brian?
- 37:23Speaker 23: Hey, what's up, guys?
- 37:24Speaker 8: Hey.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Hey, Brian.
- 37:27Speaker 23: Hey, I just want to talk about A.J.
- 37:29Speaker 21: Brown's injury, how he went down last week in the
- 37:31Speaker 21: opener and we put.
- 37:32Speaker 23: A champ, Seahawks.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that.
- 37:36Speaker 8: Oh, man.
- 37:36Speaker 21: I feel bad for the guy, man.
- 37:37Speaker 23: But he's up six weeks.
- 37:39Speaker 21: But Kyle Williams is going to take over now. I
- 37:41Speaker 21: think he's going to step up. And Epton Chisholm and...
- 37:46Speaker 21: Everybody else will step up and meet them. But Trevor
- 37:48Speaker 21: Henderson should be playing this week. He's coming back off
- 37:52Speaker 21: ankle injury. So Trey will be playing this. So he's
- 37:55Speaker 21: going to be nice to see finally get him back.
- 37:59Speaker 21: And that Daquan Jones guy we picked up, the guy from.
- 38:03Speaker 23: The Bills, he's going to.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Start the run.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Yep.
- 38:07Speaker 7: 3.30.
- 38:07Speaker 10: Start the run.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Yep. Yep. Big guy up front.
- 38:10Speaker 5: I'll put Paul's word about.
- 38:11Speaker 3: All right. You're going to be at the game, Brian?
- 38:13Speaker 10: Eat space.
- 38:15Speaker 21: Oh, man, I wish, but I was at the Precinct
- 38:18Speaker 21: game when we played Philly.
- 38:20Speaker 3: I know, but this game, where are you going to
- 38:22Speaker 3: be watching? In your living room?
- 38:24Speaker 23: Yeah, pretty much.
- 38:26Speaker 21: That's the plan. I think it went by field goal.
- 38:29Speaker 21: I think Andy Bogalis kicked that one in field goal.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Okay, I hope you're right. Let's go, but I think
- 38:35Speaker 3: it's going to be more than a field goal, Brian.
- 38:37Speaker 3: All right, thanks for calling. Brian Lowe, we'll check it in.
- 38:39Speaker 5: Not to be confused with Brian Lowe. former host of
- 38:44Speaker 5: Patriots Today.
- 38:45Speaker 3: That guy sounded like Dickie Eklund's little brother. Who?
- 38:49Speaker 5: Yes.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Sounded like Dickie Eklund's little brother.
- 38:51Speaker 12: I don't know who that is.
- 38:52Speaker 5: You guys never saw The Fighter?
- 38:55Speaker 10: Oh, yeah. I mean, like once.
- 38:58Speaker 12: I wouldn't recognize that by no name.
- 39:01Speaker 5: What are we even doing? How do you never hear
- 39:03Speaker 5: of Dickie Eklund?
- 39:03Speaker 2: Is that Christian Bale?
- 39:06Speaker 9: I didn't even know that was his name in the movie.
- 39:08Speaker 3: It's a good movie.
- 39:09Speaker 12: I remember Mickey Ward, but I don't remember.
- 39:11Speaker 3: They're the pride of Lowell.
- 39:13Speaker 10: It was a good movie. I enjoyed it.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Isaac in South Dakota. What's up, Isaac? Hey, guys.
- 39:22Speaker 20: Long-time listener, first-time caller. I have a question. Hypothetically, if, like,
- 39:30Speaker 20: Caleb Loma were to get a start, do you think
- 39:32Speaker 20: that would possibly help the run game with his athleticism
- 39:35Speaker 20: and getting to the outside if we were to, like,
- 39:37Speaker 20: some zone run to the outside?
- 39:40Speaker 3: I don't know is he.
- 39:41Speaker 10: Known as a mauler is he a guy that caleb
- 39:43Speaker 10: lomu yeah no athletic player but he's not playing in
- 39:46Speaker 10: this no he's not playing yeah yeah but he's.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Saying it hypothetically if he did play he's asking would
- 39:52Speaker 3: it help the run game not yet.
- 39:54Speaker 10: I don't know i guess it depends on your perspective
- 39:56Speaker 10: on that like if they wanted to run like more
- 39:59Speaker 10: tosses and more outside zones and like stretch it you
- 40:02Speaker 10: know plays and things like that i i suppose but
- 40:04Speaker 10: like he's not as like physical as, like, Morgan Moses.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Right. But I think that's what he's asking.
- 40:09Speaker 21: Right.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Well, what comes with putting him in at right tackle?
- 40:11Speaker 2: He's going to have to go against T.J. Watt a lot.
- 40:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 40:14Speaker 10: I mean, he's not playing.
- 40:17Speaker 5: Unless someone gets hurt.
- 40:18Speaker 3: No, he was talking about just in general, would he
- 40:22Speaker 3: be better.
- 40:22Speaker 9: For the run game?
- 40:23Speaker 10: I don't think that I would describe him as that
- 40:26Speaker 10: kind of player, no.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:27Speaker 5: I think he's more of an athletic pass protector.
- 40:29Speaker 3: He is.
- 40:29Speaker 9: He's more athletic.
- 40:31Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 40:32Speaker 5: Yep.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Um, let's go to Chucky in Wisconsin. What's up, Chucky?
- 40:39Speaker 5: Chucky cheese.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Get it. Oh, good.
- 40:41Speaker 15: Hey guys.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Hey, how are you all?
- 40:43Speaker 7: Thanks for taking the call.
- 40:44Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 40:45Speaker 16: Great.
- 40:45Speaker 23: Hey, um, I got a question.
- 40:48Speaker 7: It's been on my mind for a bit.
- 40:50Speaker 23: So I watched a little bit.
- 40:52Speaker 7: Sorry, Paul, not red zoning, but skipping around some games
- 40:55Speaker 7: and doing some film this week.
- 40:56Speaker 3: It's okay.
- 40:58Speaker 7: Is it, uh, Is it just me, or like if
- 41:02Speaker 7: you draw a line on the line of scrimmage, I
- 41:05Speaker 7: know we're 26th in, what, BBA?
- 41:07Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 41:09Speaker 17: OVA?
- 41:09Speaker 7: BBA? For running the ball?
- 41:11Speaker 3: For running? Yeah, we're down there.
- 41:13Speaker 2: 32.
- 41:13Speaker 10: Are we talking about rush offense?
- 41:16Speaker 3: 32.
- 41:16Speaker 7: Yeah, the rushing offense.
- 41:18Speaker 10: Dead last.
- 41:21Speaker 7: Okay, is it just me, or are we now on
- 41:24Speaker 7: year three, four, whatever, of actually not... moving the line
- 41:28Speaker 7: of scrimmage.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Yep.
- 41:30Speaker 10: I've talked about it.
- 41:31Speaker 8: Yep.
- 41:32Speaker 10: I feel like Mac Jones' rookie year is the last
- 41:35Speaker 10: time they had a good running game.
- 41:37Speaker 7: But so, Evan, I guess, you know, you guys were
- 41:39Speaker 7: talking about the assistant coach availability and all. Are you
- 41:44Speaker 7: actually seeing the offensive line coaches, too? I mean, would
- 41:47Speaker 7: it be worth, like, putting the heat on them a
- 41:50Speaker 7: little bit, saying, you know, what's up? It almost looks
- 41:54Speaker 7: like we're trying to zone block on a downhill play,
- 41:57Speaker 7: like we're just statically holding the line.
- 42:02Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:03Speaker 7: I mean, to be something more. Yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 3: I mean, they've got, they have three offensive line coaches,
- 42:08Speaker 3: so yeah.
- 42:10Speaker 10: Well, two now, but yeah, they, they, I don't know.
- 42:13Speaker 10: I don't think it's just on the offensive line. Like,
- 42:17Speaker 10: To me, I think that the scheme needs to be
- 42:18Speaker 10: more dynamic in the run game. I think when you
- 42:21Speaker 10: watch the teams that run the ball successfully nowadays, there's
- 42:25Speaker 10: a lot of moving parts in the run game. And
- 42:27Speaker 10: it's less so of like just blocking duo or gap
- 42:30Speaker 10: and just going right at people. And it's more of
- 42:33Speaker 10: the window dressing, the motion, the misdirection plays.
- 42:36Speaker 9: Don't you want to have a team where.
- 42:39Speaker 3: When you need two yards, you can just line up
- 42:41Speaker 3: and get two yards.
- 42:43Speaker 10: But I'm not talking about getting two yards. I'm talking
- 42:45Speaker 10: about getting.
- 42:46Speaker 3: You know what I mean? It's like you don't have
- 42:47Speaker 3: to scheme good runs. It's man-on-man, and you just win
- 42:52Speaker 3: your blocks.
- 42:53Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, just go dig out Byron Murphy and
- 42:56Speaker 10: move him off the ball. That's great on third and one. Obviously,
- 43:01Speaker 10: if I need a yard on third and one, I
- 43:03Speaker 10: want to be able to just go forward and pick
- 43:05Speaker 10: up a yard. But if you're talking about like running
- 43:07Speaker 10: the ball consistently throughout the game, I think that there's
- 43:12Speaker 10: just these guys on the defensive line are just too good. They're,
- 43:15Speaker 10: they're really good players now that are really difficult to move.
- 43:19Speaker 10: And if you're just expecting to just run gap or
- 43:21Speaker 10: duo or whatever, you know, full back lead, and you're
- 43:25Speaker 10: just going to bowl pins over, like you need to
- 43:28Speaker 10: have really good offensive linemen and really physical blockers to
- 43:31Speaker 10: be able to do that.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:32Speaker 10: And I don't know if they have that. So yeah,
- 43:35Speaker 10: I think that, you know, I was talking to one
- 43:37Speaker 10: of the ball knowers about this yesterday. I was talking
- 43:39Speaker 10: to Taylor about it yesterday and he made a good point.
- 43:41Speaker 10: If you're going to move a lot of guys around
- 43:43Speaker 10: and you're going to use a lot of motion, that
- 43:45Speaker 10: kind of has to be ingrained in your system. It
- 43:48Speaker 10: has to sort of be an identity. You know, it's
- 43:50Speaker 10: not something that you can just go in now and
- 43:53Speaker 10: start installing a bunch of motions. That's something that begins
- 43:57Speaker 10: in the spring and builds up from the spring.
- 44:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:00Speaker 10: Like Kyle Shanahan or Liam Cohn or, you know, one
- 44:03Speaker 10: of these coaches, Mike McDaniel, like that's part of the offense, right?
- 44:07Speaker 10: That's part of the system. And I just think with McDaniels,
- 44:09Speaker 10: it's not necessarily for whatever reason, that's not part of
- 44:13Speaker 10: his like DNA as a coordinator and as a play designer.
- 44:16Speaker 10: So that that's where I would start. Like, I think
- 44:19Speaker 10: they need to be more creative with how they run
- 44:21Speaker 10: the football.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 44:25Speaker 3: Thanks for the call, Chucky.
- 44:27Speaker 9: Appreciate it.
- 44:28Speaker 3: How about Anthony in Pennsylvania? What's up, Anthony?
- 44:33Speaker 23: What's going on, y'all?
- 44:34Speaker 24: Hey.
- 44:35Speaker 23: I didn't really have time to call in to talk
- 44:38Speaker 23: about last week's game. I'm going to try to go
- 44:42Speaker 23: real quick and then bleed into the Steelers game. Games
- 44:45Speaker 23: like that where we just turn the ball over and
- 44:47Speaker 23: we're just messing up ourselves and just letting the other
- 44:50Speaker 23: team win, that's the type of games that really get
- 44:53Speaker 23: under my skin as a fan. But I don't know
- 44:56Speaker 23: if anybody remembers last year when we played the Steelers,
- 44:59Speaker 23: that was the How we remember. I just need to
- 45:06Speaker 23: see a clean one this week. That's mostly what I
- 45:08Speaker 23: care about. Rush the old guy. Don't let him throw deep.
- 45:15Speaker 23: Just come out with a win. I just want to
- 45:17Speaker 23: see a clean one.
- 45:18Speaker 3: There you go.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I love it.
- 45:21Speaker 3: What else? You wanted to talk about this game coming up,
- 45:23Speaker 3: or are you good?
- 45:25Speaker 5: Just want to see a clean game.
- 45:26Speaker 9: Clean game.
- 45:27Speaker 23: Yeah, basically, that's all I'm trying to say.
- 45:29Speaker 9: Yeah, we don't want five turnovers like the last time.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Okay.
- 45:34Speaker 23: Last week, it was Drake. Last year, it was Ramon Drake.
- 45:37Speaker 20: Yep.
- 45:38Speaker 10: And Drake.
- 45:38Speaker 3: And Drake. Drake fumbled three times, I believe.
- 45:41Speaker 9: In the last game.
- 45:42Speaker 5: Well, it's still a pick in the end zone at
- 45:43Speaker 5: the end of the half. Yeah.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:45Speaker 23: Last week, Drake was turning the ball over. Last year
- 45:48Speaker 23: against Steelers, Ramond Drake was turning the ball over.
- 45:50Speaker 5: And Drake was, yeah.
- 45:51Speaker 4: And the difference in those two games is this game,
- 45:55Speaker 4: before any of the turnovers happened, was dead even. It
- 45:58Speaker 4: was 10-3 in the fourth quarter before any turnover happened.
- 46:00Speaker 4: The Pittsburgh game, I think the Patriots win 100 times
- 46:03Speaker 4: out of 100 if they don't turn the ball over
- 46:05Speaker 4: so many times.
- 46:06Speaker 5: Do you know what I mean?
- 46:08Speaker 2: One of them was on a two-yard line.
- 46:10Speaker 5: I think the games were much different.
- 46:11Speaker 4: The Patriots, I thought, thoroughly outplayed Pittsburgh for 60 minutes
- 46:14Speaker 4: last year, and the turnovers prevented them from winning the game.
- 46:18Speaker 4: This game, I thought, was pretty even, and the turnovers
- 46:22Speaker 4: killed the Patriots at the end.
- 46:24Speaker 9: You know?
- 46:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 46:26Speaker 5: All right.
- 46:28Speaker 3: As always, we have our caller from L.A., Christian. Christian,
- 46:33Speaker 3: what's up?
- 46:34Speaker 14: Hey, you guys.
- 46:35Speaker 17: Hey, you guys.
- 46:36Speaker 15: Hey, you guys.
- 46:36Speaker 19: Hey, a couple of things. First, I want to ask
- 46:39Speaker 19: a couple of questions, and then I want to stump
- 46:41Speaker 19: the grump, so you'll have to wait until the questions
- 46:43Speaker 19: are over after the grump is stumped.
- 46:46Speaker 18: Okay.
- 46:47Speaker 19: Stumpo El Grumpo.
- 46:49Speaker 25: Paul.
- 46:50Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 46:50Speaker 19: We know Tom Brady was the greatest quarterback of all time,
- 46:53Speaker 19: and sometimes when you've got that guy, people behind you
- 46:56Speaker 19: just don't.
- 46:56Speaker 8: See the field.
- 46:57Speaker 19: Can you please name for me every quarterback drafted after
- 47:01Speaker 19: Tom Brady, what school they came from, and where they
- 47:04Speaker 19: went to after the Patriots. That's the stumpo el grumpo.
- 47:07Speaker 19: The comments are, can you, Fred, please give me the
- 47:11Speaker 19: Patriots record two weeks after D.K.
- 47:14Speaker 23: Metcalf, after A.J.
- 47:16Speaker 19: Brown comes back? And then for E. and Deuce, do
- 47:22Speaker 19: you guys think this offense would look much better if
- 47:25Speaker 19: we traded for that coach that Chicago has, their head coach?
- 47:29Speaker 10: Ben Johnson.
- 47:30Speaker 21: I love you guys.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 47:31Speaker 19: Tonight, 24-7 again.
- 47:34Speaker 3: Okay. Thanks, Christian.
- 47:36Speaker 9: Appreciate it.
- 47:36Speaker 3: It's a lot there.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know if I can do the first part.
- 47:41Speaker 4: I will just sort off the top of my head.
- 47:45Speaker 4: They drafted Rohan Davey, I want to say, in 0-2,
- 47:48Speaker 4: maybe fourth round. Third or fourth round out of LSU.
- 47:53Speaker 4: I don't know if he played for any other teams.
- 47:57Speaker 4: They drafted Cliff Kingsbury. In the sixth round, didn't make
- 48:02Speaker 4: the team.
- 48:03Speaker 3: KFC.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Kevin O'Connell came a little later. He was a third-round pick.
- 48:10Speaker 4: He did make the team, but really never made any impact.
- 48:15Speaker 4: We're just talking about drafting, right? We're not counting like
- 48:19Speaker 4: Brian Hoyer.
- 48:19Speaker 3: The tall kid from.
- 48:21Speaker 5: Ryan Mallett came later.
- 48:26Speaker 10: Gutierrez, right?
- 48:27Speaker 4: Yeah, he wasn't a draft pick. That's why I'm skipping
- 48:30Speaker 4: the free agents. There was another one I'm missing that
- 48:34Speaker 4: they drafted.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Zach Robinson?
- 48:36Speaker 5: Zach Robinson, the special teams guy.
- 48:39Speaker 4: Zach Robinson, Danny Ettling was drafted in the seventh round.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Does that get you to the end of Brady? Is
- 48:48Speaker 4: there any other quarterback they drafted during the Brady?
- 48:51Speaker 5: Oh, Matt Castle. Matt Castle. Forgot about Matt Castle.
- 48:54Speaker 10: Yeah, I was going to say, you're missing a pretty
- 48:55Speaker 10: big one.
- 48:56Speaker 5: And then Garoppolo.
- 48:57Speaker 10: Yeah, and another one.
- 48:58Speaker 5: Jacoby.
- 48:59Speaker 12: Who came back?
- 49:00Speaker 5: Oh, Jacoby Brissett was a third-round pick, yeah.
- 49:02Speaker 9: So you didn't stump the Grump.
- 49:04Speaker 5: No, he did.
- 49:05Speaker 3: And he wants my record for the Patriots two weeks
- 49:09Speaker 3: after A.J. Brown comes back. They'll be five and three.
- 49:13Speaker 12: Okay.
- 49:16Speaker 5: You don't think he's coming back until then?
- 49:19Speaker 9: Six weeks.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Oh.
- 49:21Speaker 9: Okay.
- 49:23Speaker 2: So you think he comes back? I mean, it's weird.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Oh, I think it's at least that. But I think
- 49:28Speaker 4: everybody else is like, oh, it's IR, four games. I
- 49:31Speaker 4: don't think he's coming back in four games. But I'm
- 49:32Speaker 4: surprised that Fred doesn't think that.
- 49:34Speaker 6: I mean, I wonder if it's okay to just keep
- 49:36Speaker 6: him on ice until the bye. and then go those
- 49:39Speaker 6: last seven games with him and, you know, get them fully.
- 49:42Speaker 2: Up to speed. You've got chargers, bills, chiefs, jets, Broncos, dolphins.
- 49:46Speaker 2: You got six of the last seven.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I think when he's ready, he's he'll play now. I
- 49:50Speaker 3: don't think you put them on ice when he's ready.
- 49:51Speaker 3: He'll play.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:52Speaker 5: I think what, what kind of complicates it a little
- 49:55Speaker 5: in the immediate future. So he's going to miss the
- 49:57Speaker 5: four games that he has to miss.
- 49:59Speaker 15: Right.
- 49:59Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 50:00Speaker 4: So that gets you, I think Miami and then a
- 50:04Speaker 4: Thursday night game immediately following against Chicago.
- 50:07Speaker 6: Uh, Packers first. Sorry, Bears is before Miami. It'll be Steelers, Jags, Bills.
- 50:12Speaker 10: He's eligible to come back.
- 50:15Speaker 5: Raiders, Jets.
- 50:15Speaker 4: So the Jets game is the one I was thinking of.
- 50:17Speaker 4: The Jets game and then the Bears. The Jets game
- 50:20Speaker 4: would be the first game he's eligible to come back.
- 50:22Speaker 4: So does he play in that game? Kind of in
- 50:27Speaker 4: the back of your mind, you're thinking he's probably not
- 50:28Speaker 4: going to be able to play Thursday night.
- 50:29Speaker 5: Right.
- 50:30Speaker 2: Quick turnaround. So just hold him and then get him
- 50:32Speaker 2: all the way.
- 50:32Speaker 4: Just hold him for those two games and then see
- 50:34Speaker 4: if maybe he's ready after that.
- 50:36Speaker 10: Or you play him the Thursday night and then he
- 50:37Speaker 10: has the 10 days off until the next one.
- 50:39Speaker 5: Also an option.
- 50:40Speaker 10: To see if he bounces back.
- 50:41Speaker 5: Also an option.
- 50:42Speaker 22: I feel like November 1st against Miami, if he's ready,
- 50:46Speaker 22: kind of low stakes.
- 50:49Speaker 2: You're probably going to have to score some points against
- 50:50Speaker 2: the Bears. So it might be helpful. You think so.
- 50:53Speaker 3: To help him.
- 50:54Speaker 10: To the Ben Johnson question of that phone call.
- 50:56Speaker 5: Yeah. Would you rather have Ben Johnson?
- 50:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 51:01Speaker 5: I knew the answer to that. That's why I made
- 51:03Speaker 5: him answer it.
- 51:03Speaker 10: Not because I think that Vrabel's a bad coach by
- 51:06Speaker 10: any means.
- 51:06Speaker 7: I know.
- 51:06Speaker 5: You don't have to apologize for liking offense. A lot
- 51:10Speaker 5: of people feel that way.
- 51:12Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 51:12Speaker 10: And, you know, having him with Drake for a long
- 51:16Speaker 10: time would be... I think the Bears are set up
- 51:19Speaker 10: pretty good with the two of those guys for the
- 51:23Speaker 10: long term. But certainly not.
- 51:25Speaker 5: A bad second.
- 51:26Speaker 10: place in my heart.
- 51:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:28Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think Patriots fans, too many of
- 51:31Speaker 4: them would trade that.
- 51:32Speaker 5: I think they like the guy they got. They like Vrabel.
- 51:35Speaker 4: They had a connection to him as a player. Obviously,
- 51:36Speaker 4: they had a lot of success as a player.
- 51:39Speaker 5: And you can't argue with going 14-3 and going to
- 51:41Speaker 5: the Super Bowl in his first year.
- 51:43Speaker 10: We'll see how, but you know, I think the big
- 51:45Speaker 10: thing with Ben Johnson will be when they get into
- 51:47Speaker 10: the playoffs, like how they got to overtime against the
- 51:50Speaker 10: Rams and loss. And that was a competitive game is
- 51:52Speaker 10: like crazy cold and everything. So it was kind of
- 51:55Speaker 10: a weather game, but you know, all these tight pants
- 51:57Speaker 10: guys like managing games and managing the clock and the
- 52:01Speaker 10: situation and they get late into these playoff games. And
- 52:04Speaker 10: some of those guys, uh, Unfortunately, my guy, Kyle Shanahan,
- 52:08Speaker 10: the sphincter titans. So we'll see if Ben Johnson.
- 52:12Speaker 3: I didn't see the game, but how on earth did
- 52:14Speaker 3: they score 59 points? Terrible.
- 52:18Speaker 10: I mean, Caleb Williams had scramble lanes. He had two
- 52:22Speaker 10: long touchdown scrambles. 200 and something yards.
- 52:25Speaker 5: Two running backs that went over 100 yards.
- 52:27Speaker 10: I mean, it was.
- 52:28Speaker 3: So what was going on?
- 52:30Speaker 10: It was a hot knife through butter, Fred. Completions, successful runs,
- 52:34Speaker 10: successful scrambles. It was unbelievable to watch some of it.
- 52:39Speaker 9: Because you don't see that in the NFL.
- 52:41Speaker 4: No, and I will also say this. Ben Johnson has
- 52:43Speaker 4: made no secret of the fact that he wants to
- 52:46Speaker 4: break the scoring record.
- 52:48Speaker 10: He might just do it.
- 52:48Speaker 4: So I think you're going to see some of the
- 52:51Speaker 4: Belichick 07 mentality where He's going to try to score points.
- 52:56Speaker 5: Why is he so angry?
- 52:59Speaker 2: Was he on an FU tour?
- 53:00Speaker 4: No, I don't think it's an FU tour. I think
- 53:02Speaker 4: this is something that's important to him. I would argue,
- 53:06Speaker 4: don't let irrelevant things like that crowd into your consciousness.
- 53:10Speaker 5: It doesn't matter if you... like set the scoring record.
- 53:14Speaker 10: I think that he's just trying to set like a,
- 53:17Speaker 10: a goal for himself, a high bar for himself. I don't,
- 53:20Speaker 10: I think he obviously wants to win games too. I
- 53:23Speaker 10: think he's just, I.
- 53:24Speaker 9: Think if they set the scoring record, they'll probably have
- 53:26Speaker 9: a pretty good record.
- 53:27Speaker 11: Right.
- 53:27Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 53:28Speaker 4: I understand that. But if your goal, okay, we're going
- 53:31Speaker 4: to get to this a little bit with Drake May. Um,
- 53:35Speaker 4: you know, later in the show. But your goal should
- 53:37Speaker 4: be to do whatever you need to do that.
- 53:39Speaker 5: Particular game, whether that means score 20 points or score
- 53:42Speaker 5: 50 points. That should be the goal is to win
- 53:46Speaker 5: the game. And I agree. He's probably, that's probably his goal.
- 53:49Speaker 4: But I just think it's strange that they've put so
- 53:51Speaker 4: much emphasis on trying to break a record that really
- 53:54Speaker 4: is really irrelevant.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Let's face it. Who cares?
- 53:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Especially when you score 14 points in the Super Bowl.
- 54:00Speaker 10: The highest scoring offenses in league history are the 13 Broncos,
- 54:04Speaker 10: the 07 Patriots. They both played in the Super Bowl,
- 54:07Speaker 10: so it's not like they had bad records.
- 54:09Speaker 5: Like Fred's point, if you break that record, you're probably
- 54:11Speaker 5: a pretty good team. Absolutely. They were a pretty good
- 54:13Speaker 5: team last year. They didn't break the record. You know,
- 54:16Speaker 5: I just think.
- 54:18Speaker 4: If you really have this goal, and I didn't see
- 54:22Speaker 4: enough of the game, I don't know if they ran
- 54:23Speaker 4: up the score.
- 54:24Speaker 5: I mean, the other part of the game is their
- 54:26Speaker 5: defense was equally as wretched. Yeah, their defense is bad.
- 54:29Speaker 5: And they were in a humongous shootout.
- 54:31Speaker 10: Yeah, they have some concerns on that side of the ball.
- 54:33Speaker 3: There's the flip side of that. You make that public,
- 54:37Speaker 3: every team that comes in goes, well, you're not going
- 54:38Speaker 3: to do it against us. Yeah, good luck.
- 54:40Speaker 10: How did that work for Carolina? Right up and down
- 54:43Speaker 10: the field.
- 54:44Speaker 4: But it was, what was it, 59 to 37 or
- 54:45Speaker 4: something like that?
- 54:47Speaker 5: So I would.
- 54:48Speaker 10: You could argue that maybe they read up the score
- 54:52Speaker 10: maybe on their last scoring drive, but Carolina did punch
- 54:57Speaker 10: back a little bit.
- 54:57Speaker 5: No, it was 31-31.
- 55:00Speaker 10: So Carolina kept scoring, so they did have to keep
- 55:03Speaker 10: scoring for most of the game.
- 55:04Speaker 5: And again, I don't know enough.
- 55:06Speaker 4: Did the last touchdown, was that a Belichick 07 touchdown
- 55:09Speaker 4: that was totally unnecessary? And they said, no, we're going
- 55:12Speaker 4: to try to score. I saw them handing the ball
- 55:14Speaker 4: off and guys running 50 yards for touchdowns. Menungai had one.
- 55:18Speaker 4: And Swift had one that was, like, 30-plus-yard touchdown runs
- 55:23Speaker 4: or 25-plus-yard touchdown runs. Like, I don't know if that
- 55:27Speaker 4: qualifies as running the score up. Now, maybe they did
- 55:29Speaker 4: run it up.
- 55:29Speaker 6: Yeah, the last one was the 28-yard rush by Swift.
- 55:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 55:34Speaker 3: If you're not going to stop a guy running, then
- 55:35Speaker 3: he's going to score.
- 55:36Speaker 5: You've got to be able to stop that.
- 55:38Speaker 4: Now, you know, Belichick would have thrown a 28-yard touchdown
- 55:41Speaker 4: pass in that situation in 07.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Gone for two.
- 55:44Speaker 5: I think Ben Johnson might have that in mind this year.
- 55:46Speaker 2: I mean.
- 55:47Speaker 5: Curious to see if he does it.
- 55:48Speaker 3: We're going to a break, but before we do, I
- 55:50Speaker 3: got an email from Jennifer Hughes that I want to read.
- 55:55Speaker 3: She says, my husband, John Hughes, was always on your
- 55:57Speaker 3: page listening to the Patriots game and was an active
- 56:00Speaker 3: member of the chat, which we do during the game.
- 56:03Speaker 3: He recently passed away on September 9th. Wanted to let
- 56:08Speaker 3: you know he was always a huge fan, even when
- 56:10Speaker 3: the Patriots weren't doing well and were having a celebration
- 56:13Speaker 3: of life for him on Friday. So tomorrow, but. Thank you, Jennifer.
- 56:17Speaker 3: Thanks for the note.
- 56:18Speaker 5: And very sorry for your loss.
- 56:20Speaker 20: Yep.

- 58:54Speaker 2: All right, what's going on?
- 58:58Speaker 3: Hey, Drake.
- 58:59Speaker 17: When you walk up to the line and you're trying
- 59:01Speaker 17: to make a split-second decision, how hard is it for
- 59:06Speaker 17: you to... KIND OF TAKE LESS, TAKE THE PRICE, as
- 59:10Speaker 17: opposed to what your inclination is is to make a
- 59:15Speaker 17: big play.
- 59:17Speaker 8: I think you know my position is built on split
- 59:18Speaker 8: second decisions and that's that's football you know it's a
- 59:21Speaker 8: game of inches it's a game of of decisions in
- 59:24Speaker 8: an instant and i think you get to you know
- 59:26Speaker 8: see the consequences when you don't make the right one
- 59:29Speaker 8: and you try to force one or you try to
- 59:32Speaker 8: maybe push it down the field. I think that's something
- 59:36Speaker 8: that I'd like to say you learn from, but honestly,
- 59:38Speaker 8: learning from it at this point needs to be a habit.
- 59:41Speaker 8: I think that's the purpose of practicing and getting in
- 59:45Speaker 8: the mindset and knowing what I need to do to
- 59:48Speaker 8: help this team win and knowing that every decision I
- 59:50Speaker 8: make at this position is put on a higher, a
- 59:53Speaker 8: heightened level consequence because the decisions the quarterback makes have
- 59:58Speaker 8: a lot to do with wins and losses. I know
- 1:00:02Speaker 8: that and respect that and realize what I need to
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: do to help this team win.
- 1:00:05Speaker 24: Last year you said something, I think it was after
- 1:00:07Speaker 24: the Titans game last year, you said something about how
- 1:00:09Speaker 24: you wanted to move the ball down the field without
- 1:00:11Speaker 24: just being a check down Charlie.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: I think it was kind of tongue in cheek probably.
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: But do you feel like as you're growing here in
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: your career, you're getting more comfortable with being that, you know,
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: quote unquote, check down Charlie, if you have to be.
- 1:00:22Speaker 8: Yeah, I think, you know, it depends on the game.
- 1:00:25Speaker 8: You know, really, I think it depends on the flow
- 1:00:27Speaker 8: of the game and realizing, you know, what the defense
- 1:00:28Speaker 8: is doing and what we're trying to accomplish on offense
- 1:00:31Speaker 8: and realizing that sometimes, you know, checking it down and
- 1:00:34Speaker 8: over and over, it may feel, you know, monotonous, but
- 1:00:37Speaker 8: at the same time, it's the right thing to do.
- 1:00:39Speaker 8: And it keeps the chains moving. And I feel like
- 1:00:41Speaker 8: we battled the down distance well. And, We had the
- 1:00:43Speaker 8: same challenge in Pittsburgh this week. We've got a tough
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: defense that can get after us up front, and they've
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: got a great front. So I'm looking forward to getting
- 1:00:50Speaker 8: back out there and have another chance another week.
- 1:00:51Speaker 18: What do you see from T.J.
- 1:00:54Speaker 11: Law on film?
- 1:00:55Speaker 8: Yeah, he just wreaks havoc. Same deal as last year.
- 1:01:00Speaker 8: He's been a great player in this league for a
- 1:01:02Speaker 8: long time. You've got to know where he's at, and
- 1:01:05Speaker 8: he enjoys it. making plays on the football, and he's
- 1:01:08Speaker 8: really good at it. They have a knack for up
- 1:01:10Speaker 8: front of getting hands on balls, and the one he
- 1:01:13Speaker 8: made last week, you don't see that very often in
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: this league. It's really special. I can't even describe it
- 1:01:20Speaker 8: more than that. We've got to have all hands on deck,
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: especially with a lot of their front. They've got some
- 1:01:25Speaker 8: great players, and they've been in that defense, been together
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: for a while, so they know how to play off
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: each other and count each other's strengths.
- 1:01:33Speaker 7: When you face guys like that who are long, who
- 1:01:35Speaker 7: have that kind of length like Watt and Hayward, what
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: are some of the ways that you can go about
- 1:01:38Speaker 7: minimizing their impact when it comes to trying to find
- 1:01:41Speaker 7: your way around them in the past?
- 1:01:43Speaker 8: Yeah, I think it's hard to be looking at when
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: they're jumping and when they're trying to get hands up. Cam,
- 1:01:50Speaker 8: Hayward had one last year that got tipped in the
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: end zone and got picked, so they just have a
- 1:01:53Speaker 8: special feeling for it and they've done a lot in
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: their careers of making plays and past roughs, past breakups.
- 1:02:00Speaker 8: It can't be something I'm really thinking about. They're going
- 1:02:02Speaker 8: to try to get their hands up. I think just
- 1:02:04Speaker 8: finding good passing lanes and moving around in the pocket,
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: maybe some different ways. But really, I think just it's
- 1:02:10Speaker 8: easy to say quick game, but at the same time,
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: quick game, they know they're going to get their hands
- 1:02:14Speaker 8: up fast. So it's just being cognizant of it, and
- 1:02:16Speaker 8: the guys up front have an extra little, whether it's
- 1:02:20Speaker 8: technique or little things to get the hands down.
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: Mike talked about the difference between being aggressive versus reckless.
- 1:02:29Speaker 14: How gradual is that process and distinction for you?
- 1:02:33Speaker 8: Yeah, I think he said that since, you know, I
- 1:02:35Speaker 8: got here, you know, and he's, and he became the
- 1:02:37Speaker 8: head coach, you know, he's always, you know, wanting to
- 1:02:38Speaker 8: be aggressive and not reckless. And I think there's, there's
- 1:02:41Speaker 8: times and places for everything and realizing that, you know,
- 1:02:45Speaker 8: depends on the flow of the game and how we're
- 1:02:47Speaker 8: doing offensively and, and how, what the score is and
- 1:02:49Speaker 8: knowing that, you know, sometimes a few plays, you know,
- 1:02:51Speaker 8: we look back on it can change, you know, the
- 1:02:53Speaker 8: tide of a game or can change the outcome of
- 1:02:55Speaker 8: a game and realizing when those are and, And when,
- 1:02:58Speaker 8: you know, sometimes when we're in field goal range and,
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: you know, it's third and long to get into field
- 1:03:02Speaker 8: goal range. We did that once in Seattle. Another time when,
- 1:03:05Speaker 8: you know, we're in longer distance just to try to
- 1:03:07Speaker 8: make it, you know, third and manageable and just try to,
- 1:03:09Speaker 8: you know, manage the game and be the conductor. He
- 1:03:11Speaker 8: always tells me, you know, be the conductor and be
- 1:03:13Speaker 8: the guy, you know, making the right plays and leading
- 1:03:16Speaker 8: the offense.
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: Do you feel like you put more pressure on yourself
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: after a game like Wednesday's where maybe you didn't play
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: up to your typical standards?
- 1:03:22Speaker 8: You know, I was going to be harsh on myself.
- 1:03:24Speaker 8: You know, I think that's the way. I grew up
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: in my family, and I always felt like being hardest
- 1:03:30Speaker 8: on yourself is, you know, you can always get back
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: to having confidence and not kind of battling that line
- 1:03:37Speaker 8: of being hard on yourself, but also having confidence in yourself.
- 1:03:40Speaker 8: And I think it's been throughout my whole career of
- 1:03:42Speaker 8: having games where you feel like you didn't put out
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: your best work, and even times when you win, there's
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: times where you feel like, man, I wish we could
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: have done this better, or we got lucky almost in
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: this league. So just finding ways to battle that line
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: and also, you know, having the ultimate confidence and knowing that,
- 1:03:57Speaker 8: you know, the guys around me and my ability and
- 1:03:59Speaker 8: knowing that, you know, we can win games in this league.
- 1:04:03Speaker 24: When you think about refining your decision-making in those split seconds,
- 1:04:07Speaker 24: it sounds like, you know, the way you're talking, almost
- 1:04:10Speaker 24: like just to remember what the situation is, right? To you,
- 1:04:12Speaker 24: Seattle is an example, like, hey, it's 13-10, we're in
- 1:04:15Speaker 24: field goal range. Is there anything else besides being in
- 1:04:17Speaker 24: those situations in games and in practice that you can
- 1:04:20Speaker 24: do and is a reminder part of that process yeah.
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: I think you know i love to watch you know
- 1:04:24Speaker 8: games you know and watching film in a full game
- 1:04:27Speaker 8: matter you know i think a lot of times you
- 1:04:28Speaker 8: can kind of you know put a cut up of
- 1:04:30Speaker 8: hey this is formation this is what they're playing and
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: i think love you know watching a full game and
- 1:04:34Speaker 8: or watching the second half when those decisions are even
- 1:04:36Speaker 8: you know heightened more you know in a close game
- 1:04:38Speaker 8: where you feel like hey you know what's the down
- 1:04:40Speaker 8: distance what's the time you know what's you know, how
- 1:04:42Speaker 8: many timeouts we got. I think just those end of
- 1:04:44Speaker 8: the game, you know, matters, you know, the end of
- 1:04:45Speaker 8: game situations and the second half when you're down or
- 1:04:48Speaker 8: when you're up and just watching the flow of the game.
- 1:04:51Speaker 8: You know, I love doing that and try to put
- 1:04:52Speaker 8: myself in the eyes of the quarterback and what I
- 1:04:55Speaker 8: would do. And I try to, you know, it's hard
- 1:04:57Speaker 8: when you're watching other NFL games to do that, you know,
- 1:05:00Speaker 8: in the TV copies. But I think you try to,
- 1:05:03Speaker 8: you know, find times when, you know, it's a close
- 1:05:05Speaker 8: game to try to see, hey, what would I do
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: and try to think like a coach and, you'll kind
- 1:05:09Speaker 8: of be, you know, quarterback and that's what you got
- 1:05:10Speaker 8: to do. You got a lot of thinking back there.
- 1:05:13Speaker 16: We wanted to ask about, um, a donation that you
- 1:05:14Speaker 16: made to a school in Rhode Island with Ann Michael.
- 1:05:17Speaker 12: Uh, we talked to the teachers today.
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: They were so grateful for the supply donation.
- 1:05:21Speaker 12: Why'd you do it and how does, how did it
- 1:05:22Speaker 12: make you feel?
- 1:05:23Speaker 8: Yeah, I think my wife, you know, you know, shout
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: out to her. She's really the one that, you know,
- 1:05:26Speaker 8: wanted to do it. And, um, you know, I'm all
- 1:05:28Speaker 8: on board for, you know, helping, helping others out and,
- 1:05:31Speaker 8: you know, in our light and in our, you know,
- 1:05:32Speaker 8: we've been blessed, you know, blessed by the Lord and
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: what we have, um, you know, at our display and
- 1:05:37Speaker 8: trying to share it with others and, I know there's
- 1:05:39Speaker 8: probably a lot of other schools and teachers that could
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: benefit from it and realizing that and just being thankful
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: for the position we're in and also realizing what we
- 1:05:45Speaker 8: can do and how we can help others.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: Do you feel like.
- 1:05:48Speaker 16: Having this long kind of layoff from that Wednesday game,
- 1:05:52Speaker 16: does that make it easier to kind of flush it
- 1:05:55Speaker 16: away or is it harder because you don't get to
- 1:05:59Speaker 16: get back out there?
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: It's tough.
- 1:06:00Speaker 8: You've got a lot of time to think about it.
- 1:06:02Speaker 8: I think that definitely over the weekend, you're just watching
- 1:06:05Speaker 8: and thinking about it and Usually, the 24 hours, you
- 1:06:09Speaker 8: think about it on Sunday night for sure, and then Monday,
- 1:06:12Speaker 8: you watch it and get rid of it. This time,
- 1:06:16Speaker 8: it was Thursday and Friday and Saturday, and we got
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: in there on Sunday. It just felt longer, but at
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: the same time, it's something that this league is about.
- 1:06:25Speaker 8: It's about playing a game that you wish you could
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: have done things better and be able to bounce back
- 1:06:29Speaker 8: and realize that it's week one, but at the same time,
- 1:06:32Speaker 8: you've got to fix these things quick and in a
- 1:06:34Speaker 8: hurry because these things You know, it's not going to
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: win you football games. As Coach said, it's the stuff
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: that gets you beat. Coach Rabel mentioned– After a night
- 1:06:44Speaker 8: like he had in the opener against– Yeah, I think
- 1:06:46Speaker 8: it's easy to say a night like he had. I mean,
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: I'm the one down the sideline. I left it inside
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: for him. You know, obviously the drop, I think we
- 1:06:52Speaker 8: all know he can make that play. You guys saw
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: him in camp, you know, his ability to make plays. So,
- 1:06:57Speaker 8: it's nothing that you need to, you know, do extra.
- 1:06:59Speaker 8: I think a lot of times the more you try to,
- 1:07:01Speaker 8: you know, have guys coming in and, Everybody's trying to
- 1:07:03Speaker 8: pump him up. You feel like, man, did I do
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: a lot more wrong than I felt like I did?
- 1:07:07Speaker 8: I know I've been in that situation before and been
- 1:07:11Speaker 8: in that limelight and just realizing that the more you
- 1:07:15Speaker 8: can do is just give him confidence and give him
- 1:07:18Speaker 8: some extra reps in practice. He's had a great response.
- 1:07:20Speaker 8: I'm looking forward to seeing him on Sunday.
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: History. My father had a hardware store in Brooklyn, okay,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: in the city. And I'd go in there and work
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: when I was a little kid. First grade, they'd put
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: me on the subway to get sandwiches for people. And
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: I'd go to this place that they, you know, and
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: I'd go get the sandwiches for everybody and bring them back.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: First grader on the subway by myself with money in
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: my pocket. Oh, my God.
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: I mean, that's great. That tops me. You know, that
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: tops me.
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: It's like you would never do that now. And I
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: can understand that.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: But back then you went from all that to East Dennis.
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: Was that a crazy transition for you going from like
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: a city to living in the middle of nowhere?
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: No, no.
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: He worked in the city. We lived in the suburbs
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: of New Jersey.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Knowing how dead it is down there. The subway
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: didn't always have a great reputation back then.
- 1:08:15Speaker 13: Either, though.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Maybe my father didn't like me. I don't know.
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: Maybe he won't come home one day and I'll be
- 1:08:23Speaker 8: off the hook.
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: Oh, you're back, huh?
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: That's another great moment from Patriots Unfiltered. All right, back
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: here at Patriots Unfiltered. We're down Evan. He's off to
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: the locker room in practice. And so we'll get those
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: reports tomorrow from him.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll get the boys pumped up.
- 1:08:43Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: All right. But Paul's here. I'm here.
- 1:08:46Speaker 9: Deuce is here.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: Alex is here. Matt's still in the booth. And Copilot's here, too.
- 1:08:50Speaker 10: We've got a Copilot read.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: That's right, Fred.
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: It's time for the Copilot Question of the Week, presented
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: by Microsoft Copilot, where every day is game day and
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: where every decision is powered by insight and innovation. Microsoft
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: technology helps to make decisions faster, insight sharper, and strategies
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: more adaptive.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Today, guys, we're talking about the.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: Historic Patriots-Steelers rivalry, which, of course, Patriots have beat them, what,
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: three times in the AFC Championship, right?
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: Twice on the road, once at home.
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: They did have another victory over them in the playoffs yesterday.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: 1997? Correct.
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: 96.
- 1:09:23Speaker 16: 96.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: First round there.
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: It was in January of 97. Gotcha, gotcha.
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: But my question for you guys, though, is they played
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: 36 times.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: What would you guess the.
- 1:09:32Speaker 10: Overall record is for the Patriots?
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: 36 times.
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: And I will preface this with the Steelers dominated until 1998.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: 18 and 18.
- 1:09:39Speaker 7: Close.
- 1:09:39Speaker 26: I have no idea.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: 19 and 17.
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: 19 and 17. But what I thought was interesting was that.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: 1917 in whose favor?
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: Patriots.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: It was 12-4 for the Steelers through 1998. So they're
- 1:09:53Speaker 6: only part of the Steelers dynasty. Yeah, my lifetime is
- 1:09:56Speaker 6: so skewed.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: That's the case with a lot of these teams.
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: So before what year?
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: Before 98.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: Before 98, it was 12-4 in favor of the Steelers.
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: 1976, Patriots beat them 30-27 in the five.
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: Here we go. The four. Here we go.
- 1:10:13Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:10:14Speaker 21: Ooh.
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: I thought you were going to just Bang this out.
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: So definitely the playoff game, does that count?
- 1:10:22Speaker 11: Yes.
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: That 96 playoff game?
- 1:10:23Speaker 8: Yep. 28-3.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: Yep. In the fog.
- 1:10:26Speaker 14: Yep.
- 1:10:27Speaker 9: The fog.
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: So that's two.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: I want to say the Patriots beat the Steelers in
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: like 83.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Hold on. I had to just pull it up real quick. Yes,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: you are right, Paul.
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: Was that a blowout?
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: That was a 28-23 Patriots win.
- 1:10:43Speaker 8: However.
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: In 1986, the Patriots did blow out the score.
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: 34-0.
- 1:10:51Speaker 17: 34-0.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: Boom.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: Boom.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Paul nailed it.
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: So I just thought that was interesting.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Obviously, they played a lot of big games.
- 1:10:59Speaker 6: But, man, it started out 12-4 Steelers, and it's been
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: 15-5 Patriots ever since, of course, that last loss last
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: year to Pittsburgh.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: So we'll see if we can make it 16-5 this weekend.
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: So there are times when I do these nonsensical things
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: and Alex is looking at me and I can't tell
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: if she's like impressed or that's unbelievably sad.
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: Because it could go either way.
- 1:11:22Speaker 12: This poor old guy.
- 1:11:24Speaker 9: What is he?
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: Just those old football games.
- 1:11:27Speaker 12: We all have our passions and interests.
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: I've met your wife. She's normal. How does she go
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: with you? How did that ever happen? That's what I
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: look at when I see Alex looking at me.
- 1:11:37Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: Thank you, Deuce.
- 1:11:39Speaker 24: Yeah.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: That's your co-pilot question of the week. Question of the week.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: All right. 855-PATS-500 is the hotline. Podcasts at Patriots.com is
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: the email address. We were talking about Ben Johnson making
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: the goal of breaking the scoring record. Jack in Inaba writes,
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: and Ben Johnson is not on an anger tour. By
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: announcing that he wants to break the NFL scoring record,
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: he's playing a Jedi mind trick on Chicago fans. Chicago
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: has a porous defense. Johnson is focusing attention on the Bears'
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: high-powered offense so they don't pay attention to the Bears'
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: weak defense.
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: Jack. I like it.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Good.
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: No, I like it. I think that could be part
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: of it.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: Because their defense was pretty bad in that game.
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: They were, and I think we were talking about it
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: this morning with the pick-em pool of, you know, it
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: was Carolina.
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: I mean, Bryce Young threw for 360 in that game.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Put up points, right?
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: And it was a close game. It wasn't like catch-up.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: At the end.
- 1:12:35Speaker 12: They finished the season pretty good.
- 1:12:36Speaker 16: I know.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I was all over them.
- 1:12:38Speaker 12: I wasn't impressed.
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: They sucked. They sucked. They went 8-9. I mean, it
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: is what it is.
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: I mean, they were only one game away from being
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: over 500.
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: I should have got to this before Evan left. This
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: is the beef with Barth. Oh, Barth beef. Yeah, Joe
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: from the darkness writes in.
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: Joe from the darkness.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: That's what he says. Is that an.
- 1:13:02Speaker 12: Aaron Rodgers joke?
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Oh, maybe.
- 1:13:04Speaker 12: Remember when Aaron Rodgers went.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: Into the darkness? Oh, yeah, he was living in that thing.
- 1:13:07Speaker 12: How quickly we forget.
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: Murray yesterday had one of those things. Aaron Rodgers and
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: his fake wife. He kept saying his fake wife.
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: Joe says, I was driving to work listening to your
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: discussion on McDaniel's game plan. and nearly shut my radio
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: off as usual evan is making a rational and evidence-based
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: argument which i disagreed with but added value to the
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: discourse bar meanwhile is going off on nonsense that felt
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: more like culture war fodder than anything else was that
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: i had an epiphany barth isn't trying to be mike
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: felder he's trying to be tucker carlson the football culture
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: wars are more benign than it is politics to be
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: sure run game, calling the game to win, analytics and
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: the nerds, hating high volatility quarterbacks. Sound familiar? Barth's entire
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: role in this show has become ranting about traditional football
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: values rather than engaging in the discussion Evan is trying
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: to have. Barth, is this who you're really trying to be?
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: I need a lot more information.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: So in other words, Barth wants to go back to
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: the 50s, you know, When America was great, football was great.
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: Well, he's getting a little of his wish.
- 1:14:15Speaker 12: Like, trad lives are trending. Trad football, he wants to
- 1:14:18Speaker 12: bring back.
- 1:14:18Speaker 8: Now, too.
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: You know, the multi-tight end sets.
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: Teams are starting to use even some, you know, like
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: the Rams last year kind of put the three tight ends.
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: Teams are trying to follow that. Under center, as Mike
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: just pointed out, has been a big thing. I saw.
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: Something this morning on Twitter about two back sets. You know,
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: even some eye formations, which we haven't.
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: Seen in years. 40 years.
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: Um, so maybe, maybe there's getting some of his wish.
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: I think that's connected into what we've been talking about
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: with the prevalence of two high safeties across the league.
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: I mean, teams are trying to evolve and I mean,
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: it's the unending chess match between offense and defense.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: I think it's, it's part of the stuff we're talking
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: about too.
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: And you know how you combat that blitz the crap
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: out of it.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Go get them.
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: Todd and Garner. Just want to make sure everyone keeps
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Fred from jumping off the upper balcony when the jets
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: are two and Oh, and leading the East division as
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: the bills drop their game tonight. Of course, We're going
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: to shred the Steelers. My prediction is 27-9 for the Patriots.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: And hey, Pauly, go offense, as we say in Canada.
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: Offense, Todd in North Carolina, who is originally from Nova Scotia.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds like it. Yeah, I thought the Jets
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: played pretty well. I mean, I think they, you know.
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: Jets did play well.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: Titans may have had the worst performance. You know, most disappointing, Chargers,
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: but the worst performance, some of the some of the
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: ball knowers have been breaking down all the games and
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: putting clips out there and they're just like brian table
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: like what are you doing and doing anything to help
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: your young quarterback at all so it will last he
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: was pretty critical yeah okay critical uh.
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: let's go to nashville allen's there what's up alan.
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:15:54Speaker 25: i can only reach yeah uh.
- 1:15:58Speaker 10: uh.
- 1:15:58Speaker 23: what's up uh.
- 1:15:59Speaker 25: for some color because i love the show I'm not live,
- 1:16:04Speaker 25: so I don't know if this has been asked before,
- 1:16:06Speaker 25: but how do y'all feel about Jared Wilson against the Seahawks?
- 1:16:10Speaker 25: I just watched him in the last game. Of course,
- 1:16:13Speaker 25: I'm not watching him every single rep. I just felt
- 1:16:16Speaker 25: like he got blown back a ton. I saw him
- 1:16:19Speaker 25: get blown back into the running back a few times.
- 1:16:22Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:16:22Speaker 25: It makes me a little nervous. He seems just a
- 1:16:24Speaker 25: little small, even at center. I don't know how y'all feel.
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: Well, I will say the only time I noticed him
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: is when he was on his rear end, but That
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: was only once. So I don't know if that's a
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: good thing or.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: A bad thing. Yeah, I hear what you're saying, Alan.
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: I mean, I've been kind of watching this since camp
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: in the summer, and it was billed as this is
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: his natural position. And so I think we all put
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: away our concerns and thought, oh, he'll be better there.
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: But I think you're seeing the same problems you saw
- 1:16:50Speaker 6: with him at guard, where he's a little light and
- 1:16:52Speaker 6: big guys with power. I mean, I saw a couple
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: of Byron Murphy beat him right off the snap. He
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: didn't even get a piece of him.
- 1:16:57Speaker 17: So.
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: Again, I would put it in the bucket of with AVT,
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: like it's a new thing. Let's give it a little
- 1:17:02Speaker 6: bit of time. But like I said this morning on
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: the radio, Will Campbell right now is the one I
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: feel best about. I mean, I think Morgan Moses is good,
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: but I think we're always going to be on borrowed
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: time with him. I think Michael Munye is a little hefty.
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: I think Jared Wilson is a new guy, and AVT
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: hasn't played in two years. But I think it's definitely
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: something to keep an eye on, especially with Cam Hayward
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: this week.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: All right, good topic there. Keep your eye on Jared Wilson.
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: uh claudio writes in.
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: To that point you're facing cameron hayward this week yeah
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: guy's been around a little bit a.
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: Little bit big boy knows the tricks yeah claudio's in
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: brazil um curious he says what was the last game
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: that drake may was on the good list on a
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: post-game show i feel like it's been a while patriots
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: 31 steelers 17 if that's the case he'll probably be
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: on the good list but When's the last time that
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: we were saying that was a good game for you?
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Maybe the Chargers? If not the finale.
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: I don't know if he got on in the Chargers game.
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: For our post-game show, he was probably on every game.
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: But I would go back to the Jets game, which
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: is like the second-to-last game of the regular season. I
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: think he had like five touchdowns in the Meadowlands.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: He might have snuck on in that Chargers game.
- 1:18:11Speaker 22: I feel like you guys were avoiding him on any lists.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Well, that's what happens. You make a couple good throws,
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: a couple bad throws.
- 1:18:18Speaker 12: That's what I try to do, Alex.
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: Someone usually overrules me when he comes down and gets
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: his donut.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: A donut.
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: Everybody loves a donut.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: We have someone who used to work at the stadium
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: giving bathroom reviews. Oh, I love this.
- 1:18:36Speaker 9: He says.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: I was lucky enough to work for a year, and
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: I will say I did have an emergency in the
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: reference tunnel bathroom. Sometimes you got to do what you
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: got to do. Best bathroom in the stadium, though. Obviously,
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: the new ones on top of the GPA trim or
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: the classic jumping in a random suite.
- 1:18:54Speaker 9: I know people who have done it.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: Not me.
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: I've done that. Finally.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: How can you discuss stadium bathrooms without mentioning the most infamous,
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: the deflator bathroom? I thought it was special to use
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: it once.
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: It doesn't exist anymore, does it? It does not exist anymore.
- 1:19:10Speaker 9: It had a shower in it, too. I took a
- 1:19:11Speaker 9: shower in there once.
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: Where was it? You know where that 50-yard line tunnel
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: where they come up?
- 1:19:17Speaker 9: It's right before you get to the stairs.
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: It's off to the left.
- 1:19:20Speaker 22: So now it's like the referee locker room, maybe?
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: I don't know what it is.
- 1:19:25Speaker 12: Revs are the officials that have a little room in there. Interesting.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: Yeah. It used to be a shower and a bathroom.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: Perfect spot for it.
- 1:19:31Speaker 12: GP atrium is probably an accurate take.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: The GP atrium, I never thought of it.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: I've never thought of that. It's very isolated.
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: It's kind of a.
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: Long way to go.
- 1:19:38Speaker 12: You guys don't get to go up. I was in
- 1:19:39Speaker 12: there yesterday for community events. You guys don't get to
- 1:19:43Speaker 12: go as often as I do.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: I was in there actually about 20, 30 minutes.
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: Women don't use the bathroom.
- 1:19:46Speaker 18: What are we doing?
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: I had it all to myself.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: I just left the door open.
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: I didn't even care. Girls don't poop. How about Patty
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: and Agawam? What's up, Patty?
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: Hey.
- 1:19:59Speaker 13: Hey, good afternoon, everyone.
- 1:20:01Speaker 20: Hey.
- 1:20:03Speaker 13: Pauly, like you, I'm concerned about the two tight ends
- 1:20:06Speaker 13: that the Steelers are going to invariably run at us.
- 1:20:09Speaker 13: But I don't think you guys touched on Spillane being
- 1:20:13Speaker 13: on the injury report, which is really troublesome to me
- 1:20:16Speaker 13: because there's not a lot of depth behind him at
- 1:20:20Speaker 13: this point. I know Cleo Jacobs will be back hopefully
- 1:20:23Speaker 13: after a few weeks. But it's definitely a position that
- 1:20:27Speaker 13: they're going to have to address and next year's draft.
- 1:20:30Speaker 13: And we all saw what happened after Spillane got injured
- 1:20:33Speaker 13: last year. And he just, he didn't look like the
- 1:20:35Speaker 13: same guy. And I just kind of have those same
- 1:20:38Speaker 13: concerns like now at this point, this early in the
- 1:20:41Speaker 13: season and wanted to see what you guys thought about it.
- 1:20:43Speaker 13: I'll take it off there, guys.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: It's a great, great call out, Patty. I caught that too.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: I forgot to bring it up. He missed Monday.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: He spoke at his locker, thought it was just kind
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: of a, you know, a veteran day, but, I agree.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: It's not great. It's not great.
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: And I think, I think, you know, spilling kind of
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: embodies for me where I see a lot of this
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: defense out right now, which they got a bunch of
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: free agents last year who could do the job right
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: out of the gate. But are we still ascending with
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: these guys or have we kind of seen the peak
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: of spilling and Landry and, you know, that kind of
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: group that they brought in? I think it's a huge
- 1:21:16Speaker 6: question for the defense. And I agree that they're going
- 1:21:19Speaker 6: to have to put major attention.
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: And they don't have anybody that can fill that role.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: And that's the thing that's, that's troublesome. But, On one hand,
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: I was like, well, it was an extra Monday practice
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: that he missed. But then on the other hand, Patty's right.
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: He was listed with a knee limited. It's not like
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: he just said veteran rest or whatever. So, yeah, something
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: to keep an eye on.
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: Travis in Watertown, Connecticut writes in, I have heard a
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: lot about Drake May and the starters not playing in
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: the preseason. While I agree with Paul that playing eight
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: to ten snaps doesn't get them into a rhythm, I
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: think it would have had a different benefit. May's last
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: few games were all against great defenses, and he probably
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: spent the summer thinking about the Seahawks and even building
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: them up further in his own head. So he went
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: into the season opener jumpy and overthinking the rush. If
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: he was able to play against some backups, he may
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: have been able to get some of that confidence and
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: swagger back in a real game setting rather than in
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: practice where he doesn't have to worry about getting hit.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:22:20Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: I don't know what was in his head. I mean,
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: I thought he was... I didn't think he looked unsettled early.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: I thought he got unsettled late.
- 1:22:29Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:22:29Speaker 9: He got impatient.
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: He got impatient.
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: I do think there's something, though, potentially to... You came
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: right off that game against Seattle. You spent all summer
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: thinking about Seattle, talking about Seattle, hearing about Seattle.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: Their defense is so good. What are you going to do?
- 1:22:42Speaker 6: And so I'm not going to doubt that's why, but
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: I do think that that could have played a factor
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: in him being a little bit antsy and aggressive.
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: So that'll buy.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: That'll buy.
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: I just don't think that changes if he plays in
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: the preseason.
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: Especially like you're playing against scrubs and then you go
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: into the first game and These aren't the scrubs anymore.
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: These are those guys that gave me a hard time
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: last time. You guys are disguising.
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: What is this?
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: Again, I don't pretend to know Drake May intimately or
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: anything like that. I don't know what's inside and what
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: makes him tick. I don't think confidence is a problem.
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: Matter of fact, the problem with confidence, and Matt's got
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: some clips from Drake May yesterday. I think he has
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: a little too much confidence at times. I think on
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: Tuesday I made the comment that there's a little more
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: Drew there than Brady.
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: And I think you see that.
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: The things that used to really drive me crazy with
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: Bledsoe was that he would rely too much on his
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: immense skills and not just... sort of make the safe plays.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: And I think you see that a little bit from
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: time to time with Drake. Now, Drake has more God-given
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: skills in terms of his mobility, his running ability, and
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: all that stuff, his ability to throw off platform. Drew
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: had probably a better arm, pure arm, than Drake May,
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: but Drake May has everything else over Drew Bledsoe in
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: terms of athleticism.
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: And all that stuff.
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: You know, one of the comments that he made, you know,
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: in sort of asked about not being checked down Charlie,
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: and this was his answer to that.
- 1:24:19Speaker 8: Really, I think it depends on the flow of the
- 1:24:21Speaker 8: game and realizing what the defense is doing and what
- 1:24:23Speaker 8: we're trying to accomplish on offense and realizing that sometimes
- 1:24:27Speaker 8: checking it down and over and over it may feel monotonous,
- 1:24:31Speaker 8: but at the same time it's the right thing to
- 1:24:32Speaker 8: do and it keeps the chains moving.
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: Yeah, monotonous.
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: So it's monotonous to him. to have a lead going
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: into the fourth quarter.
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: You know, and I don't want, I'm not trying to
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: beat up on Drake Mays, so please don't take this
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: the wrong way.
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: And this was something that really.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: When I heard that word yesterday, I was actually on
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: one of my shows, Fred, with Bogdan Maz, because his
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: press conference goes late on Wednesdays, usually when I'm doing that.
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: And I was like, monotonous. Like, so he's sort of
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: recognizing that I got bored. It's like Mike Rabel said
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: on Monday, you know, we can't get bored.
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: We can criticize.
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: Game plans and we can have issues with the way
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: certain things are run, but like you got to do it.
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:25:16Speaker 9: You know, don't worry about the style points.
- 1:25:19Speaker 16: Right.
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: You know, and I just wonder, go ahead, Mike.
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: No, I was going to say, I mean, I would
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: hope a quarterback would take kind of satisfaction in that
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: of saying, I just have to do less right now.
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: I have to sit back and take, take the little
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: stuff and that's going.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: To open up.
- 1:25:30Speaker 6: You know, I just, I keep talking about maturity and
- 1:25:33Speaker 6: reading some of Josh McDaniel's comments.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: It sounds like he's in a similar place with patients
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: on this.
- 1:25:37Speaker 6: So, You know, I just, I hope that as the
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: sample size continues to grow for Drake May here in
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: his third season and his second full season as a starter,
- 1:25:44Speaker 6: that he can develop that patience and develop that satisfaction
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: of saying, you don't have to put everything on yourself, Drake.
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: And that's, you know, going into this game this weekend, like,
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: I don't want him to have that attitude where AJ's out,
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: I got to do more. Like, let your guys work
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: for you, you know, and try to take those steps.
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: I think it's frustrating and surprising for people that it's like,
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: just do the easy thing.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: Don't force it. But I understand.
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: I think, Paul, you have a good point of these
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: guys who are so talented and they want to live
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: and die with their talent and they want to use
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: that to make the difference.
- 1:26:15Speaker 12: Because it's gotten them this far, right?
- 1:26:17Speaker 22: And this is kind of what we were talking about
- 1:26:19Speaker 22: in the break a little bit, but I wonder sometimes
- 1:26:22Speaker 22: if it's a generational thing with just the instant gratification
- 1:26:25Speaker 22: and these, not to blame video games, but you play
- 1:26:29Speaker 22: video games, you get that instant dopamine rush. You throw
- 1:26:33Speaker 22: a 60-yard pass in Madden, and it's like, boom, you
- 1:26:36Speaker 22: win the game with that. And it's like, I wonder
- 1:26:39Speaker 22: if it's like the brain chemistry almost. Like, it'll take
- 1:26:42Speaker 22: a while to kind of shake out of that at
- 1:26:43Speaker 22: the beginning of a season.
- 1:26:45Speaker 5: It could be. I just, I do wonder if.
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: Obviously, he knows, I can't throw three interceptions in the
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: fourth quarter. But I wonder if he's thinking.
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: I just didn't execute it the right way.
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: If I had done it the right way, I.
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: Know I can do better than I did on Wednesday.
- 1:27:04Speaker 9: Listen, I know the feeling. I know the feeling.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: And before anybody, please, I don't have any problem.
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: You guys sort of give me a hard time because
- 1:27:14Speaker 4: I'm always worried about things and I'm deemed to be
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: the negative guy on the show. And I don't have
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: problems with that at all.
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: I don't want another quarterback. Drake Mays, the quarterback for
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: my team, is the one I wanted to draft, and
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: I've seen nothing to indicate that I was wrong about
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: wanting him with the third pick in 24. So please,
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: I'm pointing out what I think might be one of
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: the things he needs to improve on, and I think
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: it's a mentality. Nothing physical. It's a mentality.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: I think he needs to be more embracing of it's
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: not always going to be a 50-yard bomb to Keishon Booty.
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: Sometimes it's got to be a three-yard check down to
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: Efton Chisholm.
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: It's learning to play quarterback.
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: But learning to play quarterback, I think maybe that's the
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: simplest way to put it. Alex, they come out raw.
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: He's got a lot of physical skill that can carry
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: you in college and certainly high school. But when you
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: get in the NFL to play quarterback, You have to
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: have all kinds of different changes up and be able
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: to play the game the way it's being played.
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: Good teams are going to make you do it a
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: way that you don't want.
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: To do it. That's what the whole point of defense is.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Take them out of his comfort zone.
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: Right now, I think he's got winning the game in
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: big plays at the same level.
- 1:28:25Speaker 9: We've got to get winning the game.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: Just winning the game, whatever the play is.
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: Whatever it takes. And that's a good point because there
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: was also something I saw that was kind of interesting
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: this morning. You know, everybody points the turnover margin.
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: You know, I know Mike Reese made a big deal
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: of week one teams that won the turnover ratio were
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: 13 and 0. And the other games were three and
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: three if it was even. But everybody who came out
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: in the plus side of the turnover margin won 13
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: and 0. Maybe not quite as dramatic, but the explosive
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: play thing is a real big indicator. If you come
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: out plus in the plus 25-yard plays, in other words,
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: you get more of those plays than you allow, it's
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: almost like turnover margin.
- 1:29:12Speaker 5: You win. So maybe I think it was 6-1 in
- 1:29:15Speaker 5: the first week.
- 1:29:15Speaker 12: That was like their bread and butter last season.
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29:18Speaker 12: Like, how addicting must that feel?
- 1:29:20Speaker 9: They were insanely accurate with those.
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: It was crazy.
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: But instead of playing Cleveland and Tennessee, you're playing Seattle
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: back-to-back games, and they don't let you do that.
- 1:29:32Speaker 9: There's a stump to grump from Travis.
- 1:29:34Speaker 16: Oh, nice.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: He said, this one's blatantly unfair, but it's the only
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: way to beat Pauly. What was the score of the
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: first Patriots game I ever attended? Hint, it was against
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: the Falcons at Foxborough Stadium. No year? Well, no.
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: I just have to know of a game that took
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: place at Falcons.
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: You have to remember all the Falcons game and pick one.
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: This is almost impossible. I'm going to say they lost.
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: In the 90s.
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: They lost 40-10. Ooh, he's saying 41-10.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: I was at that game.
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: All right. A little bit of news, too.
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: Just officially announced Stephon Gilmore will be here at Gillette
- 1:30:13Speaker 6: Stadium tomorrow to officially announce his retirement.
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: So he will retire.
- 1:30:17Speaker 9: He's going to retire as a Patriot.
- 1:30:18Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:30:18Speaker 6: I don't know if he's getting a contract for that,
- 1:30:20Speaker 6: but he will retire as a Patriot.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: All right, one more call, and then we're going to
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: get to picks because we're getting late. We've got to hurry.
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: Whitey is in Cambridge. What's up, Whitey? Hey, Whitey.
- 1:30:30Speaker 23: Hey, what's going on? Hey, Whitey.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: I like that reference.
- 1:30:37Speaker 15: So a couple of things, you know, the last, the
- 1:30:42Speaker 15: second LA Superbowl, Drake may should watch that because the second,
- 1:30:47Speaker 15: it was a very low scoring and, you know, Brady
- 1:30:51Speaker 15: was a check down Charlie and he's pretty much in
- 1:30:54Speaker 15: a lot of ways, road being a check down Charlie
- 1:30:57Speaker 15: all the way to what's going to be the hall
- 1:30:59Speaker 15: of fame and maybe the best quarterback ever. He did
- 1:31:02Speaker 15: have his deep throws, but he kind of made the most,
- 1:31:06Speaker 15: of what he had. And it's because he, you know,
- 1:31:09Speaker 15: the thing is being a tech down Charlie wears out
- 1:31:11Speaker 15: the defense. You do the, you know, you get your five,
- 1:31:14Speaker 15: you get your four, you get your six and the
- 1:31:17Speaker 15: defense gets tired. And that's something that doesn't happen when
- 1:31:21Speaker 15: you get that, you know, that quick play. And there'll
- 1:31:24Speaker 15: be time for the quick play. But if he watches
- 1:31:26Speaker 15: that second Super Bowl in L.A., he has to realize
- 1:31:31Speaker 15: that's the way you're going to win games against great
- 1:31:33Speaker 15: defensive teams. And great defensive teams are usually the ones
- 1:31:37Speaker 15: who make the playoffs.
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: No, it's a great point, Whitey. It's a great point.
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: And Brady was the ultimate check down quarterback.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: And I think you could make an argument that One
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: of the other all-time great quarterbacks was even more of
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: a check down guy, Joe Montana. You know, they made
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: careers out of winning Super Bowls by, you know, being
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: willing to throw the ball horizontally rather than vertically. Now,
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: I would just, the one thing I would push back
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: on is I don't want him to be check down
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: Charlie all the time.
- 1:32:09Speaker 17: No.
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: I want him to be check down Charlie when the
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: coverage dictates to be check down Charlie. Right.
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: Take what they give you.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: All right. That time of the week. Paulie, what happened
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: last week?
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: Okay, so it was, in a lot of ways, a
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: typical first week where there was a lot of sort
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: of unknowns.
- 1:32:35Speaker 24: Yeah.
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: Things that happen out of nowhere, like Arizona going to
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: Los Angeles and beating the Chargers.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:42Speaker 5: You know, the more things change, Fred, the more they
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: stay the same.
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: He always says that when he does good.
- 1:32:47Speaker 9: Right, right, right.
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: Paul was 11 and 5.
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: Fred was 10 and 6. Again, the more things change,
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: the more things stay the same.
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: Alex, good job.
- 1:32:59Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: Nine and seven. As always, you're in the mix.
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: Week one.
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: You know what you're doing. We're going to call you
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: Miss Ball Knower.
- 1:33:09Speaker 16: Okay.
- 1:33:09Speaker 5: Because you're always in the mix.
- 1:33:11Speaker 12: Not picking the Niners.
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: Mike, as mediocre as ever.
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: Eight and eight.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: There we go.
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: And the King Ball Knower, Evan.
- 1:33:20Speaker 12: He got way too cute.
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: Five and 11.
- 1:33:22Speaker 17: Ow.
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: I got to talk to him.
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: I wonder if he's using these advanced stats to pick games.
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: Actually, I saw him do the game because, of course,
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: I have to audit when he does his picks with
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: Paul to make sure.
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Everything's above board.
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: Ernst and Young.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: No, he's just kind of firing from the hip.
- 1:33:39Speaker 12: He's firing from the hip.
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: He does. He's just like... I think if I asked him.
- 1:33:43Speaker 12: He's got too cute.
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: I think if I asked him.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: 10 minutes later... He's got like a whole folder of
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: stats here.
- 1:33:48Speaker 17: What?
- 1:33:49Speaker 23: Me?
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: But I think if I asked Evan 10 minutes later,
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: I didn't write down those pics. Can you give them
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: to me again? They would be like half... Different.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: Because I do feel like the way Mike does, he's
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: just sort of flying.
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: Yeah, because now he can have issues.
- 1:34:02Speaker 9: Well, I don't really put a lot of thought into it.
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: Well, that's what the ones who always finish last do.
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: That's my fantasy football thing.
- 1:34:08Speaker 12: Paul, I'm going to make you start sending me his
- 1:34:11Speaker 12: picks immediately. So he has to have them in the newsletter.
- 1:34:14Speaker 12: Because people don't get to hear his picks until the
- 1:34:17Speaker 12: next week.
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: When they're these picks, it's probably for the best.
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: They don't get to hear his pick.
- 1:34:21Speaker 12: They don't actually ever get to hear his pick. They
- 1:34:23Speaker 12: just know his record.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: So with the spread, it was a struggle for everybody. Alex, Paul,
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: and Fred went 8-8. Mike went 7-9. And Evan went 6-10.
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: So we all struggled with the spread.
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: But, you know, 8-8.
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: 8-8.
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: Week one.
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: Made money. Well, actually, I lost money on the VIG,
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: but that's okay.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: On the VIG.
- 1:34:42Speaker 5: On the VIG.
- 1:34:43Speaker 16: All right.
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: So tonight, Thursday night, I'll be watching Detroit 1-0 against
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: Buffalo 1-0.
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: Buffalo opens their new high mark or whatever it's called, stadium.
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: Buffalo by five and a half.
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: That's a big number, but yeah, I was really impressed
- 1:35:01Speaker 6: with the way Buffalo came out of the gates. I mean,
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: tough place to play, tough defense to go against there
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: in Houston and You know, Detroit started off good, but
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: then they just, like, took a nap.
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: Detroit had a 21-0 lead.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: As Vrabel likes to say.
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: So I'm going to go Buffalo at home, but I
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: got respect for this Detroit offense still.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: I'm going to take the points for Detroit.
- 1:35:19Speaker 12: I'm going to take Buffalo at home. Five and a half.
- 1:35:26Speaker 12: I'll take Detroit to cover as well.
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: So I think that's the right pick. I'm going to
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: go with that.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: I think that Buffalo's defense has a chance to be
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: better than it looked last week. But until I see it,
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: I'm not going to predict it. So I'll have respect
- 1:35:43Speaker 4: for Jameer Gibbs and Jared Goff and those receivers with Detroit.
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: I'll take them to cover. But I will take Buffalo
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: to win at home.
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: Detroit. Both ways.
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: Didn't see that coming.
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: Detroit wins the game. Well, we've got to have Buffalo lose.
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: That's why I have a one-game lead on you. All
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: of the arguments that you have on this side of
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: your head.
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: No, man, I probably won't watch the whole game unless it's.
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: I definitely won't watch the whole game.
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: So I want to wake up tomorrow, check my app,
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: and boom, with a Detroit win.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Do a notification. Just have it waiting for you.
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: There we go.
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: I'll show you how to do it. All right.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: Sunday at 1. Twitter alerts. Carolina against Atlanta. Both teams 0-1-1.
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: They're at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: It's Carolina by two and a half. One of the
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: rare road favorites this week.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: Yeah, against Cooper Rush again.
- 1:36:35Speaker 5: I think so.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: Such a weird, like, I didn't even know he was starting.
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: All of a sudden, it was like. Well, Tua got
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: hurt in practice on Saturday.
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: Oh, is that?
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: I never even put that all together.
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: Friday or Saturday, something like that. Yeah, I thought Carolina
- 1:36:48Speaker 6: put up some points. I'm going to go with them
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: on the road, and I'll lay the points.
- 1:36:53Speaker 12: I'll take Carolina as well.
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: Yes, Alex told me Carolina was spunky at the end
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: of last year, so I'm going to take them to
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: win on the road. Carolina.
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Carolina as well.
- 1:37:03Speaker 9: I think Atlanta.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: I got a feeling they're taking the season, but I
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: don't know. New Orleans 0-1 against Baltimore 1-0 at the
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: M & T Bank Stadium.
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: Ravens by 8.5. Big number.
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: Oh, dear.
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: No respect for Tyler Schuch in his 400 yards is passing.
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's okay.
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: That's comfortable to me.
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: Against the Lions.
- 1:37:24Speaker 17: He's all right.
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: He's one of those guys that does a really good
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: job of keeping both teams in the game.
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: Right, right. That's perfect. Yeah, definitely going with Baltimore in
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: this one. And then they're at home.
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: And I see they won four of the past five
- 1:37:36Speaker 6: against the Saints. I'm going to lay the points with Baltimore.
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: Even though I think Zay Flowers, there's a bunch of guys. Yeah,
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: did I see something about Zay Flowers?
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: Trey Hendrickson mispracticed. Yeah, Trey Flowers.
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: Jacoby Lane is on IR, I think, one of their receivers.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: Zay Flowers dealing with a hamstring. I think he could
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: be out, which is problematic.
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: It's a full Zay Flowers experience. Like, looks amazing, and
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: then he's out with a hamstring.
- 1:37:57Speaker 12: I will pick Baltimore to win. And for now, they
- 1:38:01Speaker 12: will also get the benefit of the doubt with the spread.
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm going to take Baltimore to win, but I
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: will take those points. I think the Saints.
- 1:38:10Speaker 12: Go, Marcin.
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: I think they're plucky.
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: Paul, that's why you're leading. I agree. Baltimore wins, but
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: they do not cover.
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: It's a big number, eight and a half. Big number
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: early in the season.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: Sunday at one, Minnesota at Chicago.
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: What's up, Bears? By four and a half.
- 1:38:29Speaker 6: This is fun to see Brian Flores' crazy-ass defense go
- 1:38:32Speaker 6: against that.
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: You think blitzing over 80% of the snaps is crazy-ass?
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: All zone, all blitzing.
- 1:38:38Speaker 9: I like that description.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: It's a crazy-ass defense.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: Hey, I'm Brian Flores. This is my crazy-ass defense. But
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: I think they'll.
- 1:38:46Speaker 6: Maybe not allow 60 points, but I still think Chicago
- 1:38:50Speaker 6: will score enough to win.
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: I'm going to take Chicago both ways.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: Same.
- 1:38:54Speaker 12: Go with Evan's guy.
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I definitely like Chicago in this game. I'm a
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: little worried, though, because I think Caleb Williams has struggled
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: with Flores in his short career so far.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: Minnesota has won three of the past four.
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: And he's really kind of made Williams look bad. But
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: I'm going to take Chicago. I think this is a
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: different Caleb Williams.
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: We'll see. We'll see.
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: Yeah, this is an interesting one. I'm going to take
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: Chicago as well. I believe in Ben Johnson.
- 1:39:26Speaker 9: I believe, I don't care who you're playing.
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: Scoring 59 points in the NFL is a feat. All right.
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: Sunday at 1, Cincinnati 1-0 at Houston 0-1.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: Houston by 2.5.
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: Sounds like Joe Burrow might be dealing with a tight
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: back already. Oh, really? Not great for them.
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: I'm going to go with Houston at home. But another
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: good game I'll be interested to see.
- 1:39:57Speaker 12: I like Houston both ways.
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: I think Houston showed me something offensively, and that's a
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: good defense that looked really bad.
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: I think they bounced back.
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: Texans.
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm contractually obligated to pick against Cincinnati, and so
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: I will do so.
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: I hate when I take the team that's playing Cincinnati
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: because it deprives me of a chance to pick up
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: a game on Fred.
- 1:40:20Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: Sunday at 1, Green Bay at New Jersey, and I'm
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: talking about the Jets.
- 1:40:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought it was interesting that Todd in North
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: Carolina penciling this game in for a win for the
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: Jets against Green Bay. Green Bay by three and a half.
- 1:40:37Speaker 8: On the road.
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: That's another one of the road favorites.
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: Felger's rant about Green Bay.
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: He's out on Green Bay until they get rid of LaFleur.
- 1:40:44Speaker 8: Hilarious.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: It's so funny to see him play that. Watch me.
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: He goes, watch me.
- 1:40:47Speaker 6: Just killing a team that I care nothing about. It
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: was a lot of fun. I thought the Jets looked
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: pretty good. I can't quite take them, though. I'm going
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: to take Green Bay, but I'll take, what was it,
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: three and a half?
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: Three and a half.
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: I'll take the points with the Jets.
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay.
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: Look at you.
- 1:41:05Speaker 12: I'm going to go Green Bay.
- 1:41:06Speaker 22: Both ways. I, I need, I need to see more
- 1:41:10Speaker 22: out of the jets to really have that confidence.
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: I'm going to take green Bay to win the game
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: and I'm going to take the hook. Um, I do
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: think the jets are not, I think everybody looks at
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: the jets in Miami. Like those are the two bottom dwellers.
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: I don't think they're the same. I think the jets
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: have some players.
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: And if Gino Smith plays at a reasonable level, he
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: doesn't have to be a world. He doesn't have to
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: do what he did like two years ago, three years
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: ago in Seattle. But just play reasonably well. I think
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: they have pieces in place on offense to be competitive.
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: So I'm going to take the points.
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: Me too.
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: Paul, you did it again. This is a TTN game.
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: The betters call this a thread the needle game. And
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: I'm going to thread the needle. I'm going to take
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: Green Bay to win, but I'll take the points.
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: Parlance.
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: I don't think that that's what the betters say.
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: I just said it.
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: We're not a better. We're not allowed to be.
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: All right. Next game. is at one Cleveland. Oh, and
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: one at Tampa Bay. Oh, and one.
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: No, the big spread Tampa by eight and a half.
- 1:42:12Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: I mean, after the way Cleveland looked, I can see
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: why it's that way. But Tampa didn't look too great either.
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: I mean, the turnovers and Baker's just a thrill ride
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: as he always is.
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: Four fumbles.
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: Four fumbles.
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: I'm going to take, I'm going to take Tampa. I
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: think they clean it up. I just think, I think
- 1:42:26Speaker 6: Cleveland's a disaster right now. And I'm going to lay
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: the points to feel a little crazy doing that, but
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: I'm going to, I am too.
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: So I'm definitely taking Tampa to win the game. I
- 1:42:40Speaker 5: think I'll lay the points too. I don't know what's
- 1:42:45Speaker 5: going on with Todd Munkin and sort of almost feels
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: like everybody wants Sanders to play. And because of that, well,
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: I'm not going to play him. You know, which is
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: the wrong reason. But that's what it just seems like
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: from afar. They just look like a mess. I'll take Tampa.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Baker bakes. So I will go with Tampa.
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: Actually, Ann Michael bakes. Baker fumbles.
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: Baker bakes.
- 1:43:11Speaker 12: Well, did you read Men's Health with Drake May?
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: I did not.
- 1:43:14Speaker 22: I think Ann Michael might be limiting the sweets.
- 1:43:18Speaker 12: Just no weekday sweets.
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: For herself or for Drake?
- 1:43:21Speaker 12: I think it's more for Drake.
- 1:43:22Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:43:23Speaker 12: I guess he's like addicted to milkshakes.
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: But my wife made just a delicious zucchini bread. Oh, yeah.
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: Cinnamon in it and everything. Oh, like I didn't even
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: taste the zucchini.
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: I was going to say, so you can't taste the zucchini.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: Right, exactly.
- 1:43:34Speaker 12: Remember when you, what would you say? Zucchini parm? And
- 1:43:36Speaker 12: people were like, what?
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: Did you get an eggplant?
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: You could do it. It's a thing.
- 1:43:40Speaker 6: I mean, fried zucchini is great, but that definitely meant eggplant.
- 1:43:44Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: I do remember the zucchini parm.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 1:43:46Speaker 5: That was funny.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: But I was like thinking that would work. I was like,
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: that makes sense to me. I mean, zucchini is similar
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: to an eggplant, right? It's the same genre.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: But, uh, the zucchini bread was really, really good. I
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: didn't taste the zucchini. Um, all right. Sunday at one Philadelphia,
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: one and O at Tennessee.
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: Oh, and one Eagles, big road favorite by seven.
- 1:44:06Speaker 11: Hmm.
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: I definitely taken Philly. Um, I just don't know how
- 1:44:10Speaker 6: I feel about those points, especially on the road.
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: It's a lot. Of course, Tennessee stinks. I'll lay the points.
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: Go with the big spreads this week.
- 1:44:18Speaker 12: Philly, Philly.
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm going to take the Eagles both ways, too.
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: This is another example of, you know, I don't think
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: the Titans are as bad as they looked, but I've
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: got to see it before I say that that isn't
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: as bad as they are. So I'll take the Eagles
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: to play two good halves. Last week I thought that
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: they played, Solid for a while and then kind of
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: struggled down the stretch. I think they play a little
- 1:44:42Speaker 5: better this time.
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll go with the Eagles as well. I think
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: Tennessee stinks. All right, now we skip over the Patriots
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: at 1 o'clock. And we move to 4.05 on Sunday.
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: We've got Jacksonville.
- 1:44:58Speaker 17: Where?
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: At Denver.
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: For their home opener. What's that for their home opener?
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: Kansas city is a little different. Sometimes they allow Kansas
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: city to play at home, even if it's at Denver.
- 1:45:10Speaker 5: So, because it was my homes is right.
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: And just get that away.
- 1:45:13Speaker 9: Tom Cruz.
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a, this is a really good matchup.
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: Maybe the best matchup of the week. Um, Denver by
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: two and a half.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: I just, I thought Jacksonville looked excellent last week. Um,
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: I watched that game. I'm going to tell you. And I,
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: you know what I've realized too, guys? No, I hate
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: the Broncos.
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: I do.
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: I think it's like, yeah, like I think it's a
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: generational thing. Like I've realized how much the Broncos have
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: been a thorn in the Patriots side for like basically
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: all of their existence. So I just feel like as
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: a member of the organization, I need to just hate.
- 1:45:43Speaker 6: I just need to fully commit to hating that the Broncos.
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: You need to know any more of the, behind-the-scenes hatred
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: like that. I'll set up a meeting with Fred, and
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: he'll give you all the notes.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: I know that he doesn't like Denver. He always picks
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: on Denver, but I just think it needs to be said.
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: I used to love Denver. He actually loves Denver.
- 1:46:00Speaker 9: I used to love Denver.
- 1:46:01Speaker 5: But I'm talking about the grievances with the Patriots against others.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: I'm working my way up.
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: He'll fill you in on all of those.
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: I'm working my way up. So, yeah, I'm going to
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: take Jacksonville. I'll take the points.
- 1:46:11Speaker 12: One more time on the spread for me?
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: Denver by two and a half.
- 1:46:16Speaker 12: Jacksonville.
- 1:46:18Speaker 5: Yeah, so Jacksonville went into Denver last year and actually
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: just laid a whooping on them. They made that really
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: good defense look awful. So I don't know if Liam
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: Cohen has something.
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: 34-20.
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: Or not, but I'm going to take Denver to bounce back.
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: That was an awful performance, I thought, on both sides
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: of the ball Monday night against Kansas City.
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: So I'll take Denver at home.
- 1:46:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:46:43Speaker 9: You mentioned Liam Cohen.
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: He's another guy that Starting to gain a lot of
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: respect for these young coaches.
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: UMass quarterback.
- 1:46:51Speaker 11: Yep.
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: So I'm going to go with Jacksonville to win this
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: game in Denver. In Denver.
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: It's kind of funny.
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: What should be huge is to have Denver start 0-2, right?
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: Well, we'll see, too, because Jacksonville next.
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: Up for the Patriots.
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: How do they feel coming off a win or a loss?
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: I was going to say, though, nice to see Liam
- 1:47:08Speaker 6: Cohen overcome that stupid Duval thing.
- 1:47:09Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: Sometimes guys step in it and they say something.
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: He's got a little crazy in him.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: He does. But now people don't care because he's got
- 1:47:14Speaker 3: the crazy eyes.
- 1:47:15Speaker 5: He does have the crazy eyes, Fred.
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: You're right.
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: Crazy eyes.
- 1:47:18Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:47:18Speaker 12: Is he from Massachusetts, too?
- 1:47:20Speaker 5: I don't know that.
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: Liam Cohen? I don't know. Sunday, 4-0-5. The Raiders, 1-0
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: at the Chargers, 0-1.
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: Chargers by six and a half.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: She's still getting some love. Yeah, I'm going to go
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: with the Chargers to bounce back. That's just a tough one.
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: I'm going to take the points, though, for Vegas.
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: I think it's a division game, and just in case
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: the Chargers don't get it together, I think Vegas will
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: put some points up.
- 1:47:48Speaker 12: I'll hesitantly also split it.
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: Split the baby?
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I....
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: I think for Mike's reason, I'm going to do the
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: same thing. You know, division game, you know, Raiders are 1-0.
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: See if they can carry any momentum. But I like
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: the Chargers to bounce back and get a win.
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: I'm going with the Chargers both ways. However, if they
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: lose this game, I think there's going to be some
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: Harbaugh talk going on in a negative way.
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: There should be.
- 1:48:15Speaker 12: Liam Cohen is from Warwick, Rhode Island.
- 1:48:18Speaker 5: Okay, Rhode Island.
- 1:48:19Speaker 3: Matt?
- 1:48:20Speaker 11: Island.
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: It's your people. Yeah, you lose home games to start
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: the season to Arizona and the Raiders. There should be talk.
- 1:48:29Speaker 11: Yep.
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: What are you doing? What's going on over there?
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: Sunday, 425 Seattle.
- 1:48:32Speaker 9: We know them.
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: 1-0 at Arizona.
- 1:48:34Speaker 15: 1-0.
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: Seattle is, I believe, the last road favorite of the
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: week by three and a half.
- 1:48:44Speaker 5: Sorry, three and a half, Seattle.
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: Paul, this is a good one for who owns each other.
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: Seattle has won the last nine.
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: Straight against the Cardinals. So, henceforth, I'm going to take Seattle.
- 1:48:56Speaker 6: What was it, four and a half?
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: Three and a half. Three and a half.
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: Three and a half, I'll take Seattle.
- 1:49:01Speaker 12: Seattle, Seattle, pray for Jacoby.
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't know that stat about nine in a row.
- 1:49:09Speaker 9: Got to win eventually.
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: But it's not going to prevent me from making this
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: my upset special. Oh, yeah?
- 1:49:15Speaker 17: Really?
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:49:18Speaker 9: I know what Paul's doing here.
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:49:21Speaker 9: I know what he's doing.
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: No, he's been thinking.
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: He was thinking a lot about this this morning.
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: So he'll tell you for a different reason that I'll
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: explain off air. But if you hit the reason why
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: I'm doing it, I'll tell you that you're right.
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: Well, this is why.
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: I promise you I'll tell you you're right. You'll never
- 1:49:36Speaker 5: admit this. I promise you I will if you're right.
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: So when Arizona wins, Seattle lost to Arizona. You can't
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: even beat the team that, you know.
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: No. I mean, you're close. But it has really nothing
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: to do with the Patriots.
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: Kobe Myers is checking it down, no problem.
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: Who's playing quarterback for Seattle?
- 1:49:54Speaker 16: Drew?
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:49:55Speaker 13: Drew Luck.
- 1:49:56Speaker 5: That's why I'm picking them. It's as simple as that.
- 1:49:59Speaker 5: I'm picking the backup quarterback on the road against a
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: team that's feeling really good about itself.
- 1:50:03Speaker 3: But still, see, they could stop him. You couldn't.
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: Well, I mean, they only allowed 13 points.
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: Thank you for admitting that.
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: Jacoby, just give it to Jeremiah Love.
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: Thank you for admitting what the final score was. I mean,
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: it's really not an admission. I'll take Arizona to fully upset. Tuesday,
- 1:50:16Speaker 5: they let Drew Luck go up and down the field.
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: In the second half. You missed the last part of that.
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: I'll go with Seattle both ways. I actually think Seattle's
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: a good team. The Patriots lost to a good team.
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: I think if Darna was playing this game, I'd be
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: laying double-digit points.
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: Again, Seattle wins with their defense. They don't win with
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: their offense. Sunday, 425. Washington at 0-1. Go to Dallas 0-1.
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: Dallas by four and a half.
- 1:50:46Speaker 9: They just love those Cowboys.
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: How about them Cowboys? Another one of the more disappointing
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: starts of the season with this game with the Giants.
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: You know, Jim Harbaugh. John Harbaugh. Sorry, getting him going.
- 1:50:59Speaker 6: Shoot, I just, I don't, I think I'm going to
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: go Dallas on this one. I don't have a good
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: feel for this game. Division game, though, I'll lay the
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: points at home.
- 1:51:07Speaker 12: Dallas to win. Commanders to cover.
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: I'm with Alex. Dallas wins the game, but Washington finds
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: a way. Who, like, you talk about all the different
- 1:51:17Speaker 4: random scheduling quirks. Washington starts off with two division games
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: on the road.
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: That's not fair.
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: That's lousy. That's lousy. But I'll take Washington to cover.
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: The Sharps have different ways of describing different fan bases.
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: They describe Washington's fan base as a sideline fan base
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: because they sit things out. They haven't really been active
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: in the market for a long time, and this spread
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: is indicative of that. They're trying to bring in the
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: Washington money, but Washington wins this game outright.
- 1:51:47Speaker 7: Wow.
- 1:51:47Speaker 9: Washington wins this game outright.
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: Upset pick of the week? I think that's highly possible.
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: I think Washington has a good track record against Dallas.
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: Sunday, 425. Miami, 0-1.
- 1:52:01Speaker 9: San Francisco, 1-0.
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: Here's your biggest spread of the week. Niners by 13.5.
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: Jeepers creepers. That's a lot. All right. Well, obviously, San
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: Francisco to win. Yeah, man.
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: I don't think Miami's got anything other than H-hand. So,
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: I'll I'll lay those 13 and a half.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:52:20Speaker 12: Niner gang.
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: I mean, it's a big spread, and I don't like
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: giving away that amount of points, but I'm going to.
- 1:52:27Speaker 9: Yeah, there's a reason why.
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: Listen, out there, fantasy football players, if you've got Christian McCaffrey,
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: play him.
- 1:52:34Speaker 9: He's going to have a big game.
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: Can't get that just anywhere.
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: No, no.
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: You've got to pay for it.
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: Sunday night, 820, the Colts at Kansas City.
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: Kansas City by six and a half.
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: And another home game, by the way. The Chiefs are
- 1:52:53Speaker 3: quickly becoming the Broncos when it comes to home games.
- 1:52:55Speaker 12: In primetime at that.
- 1:52:57Speaker 5: Yeah. I'm annoyed by that.
- 1:53:00Speaker 3: Why? What did you say?
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: It's two weeks into the season, and I have to
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: see multiple teams multiple times in primetime.
- 1:53:08Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:53:09Speaker 5: Kansas City in this one, the Giants in the next one.
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: Spit it out.
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: I want to see other teams.
- 1:53:15Speaker 9: What's the spread?
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: Six and a half. Chiefs by six and a half.
- 1:53:18Speaker 6: I'll take Casey to win, but I'm going to take
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: those points for Indianapolis. I think it's going to be
- 1:53:22Speaker 6: low scoring and a lot of running.
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: By the two teams.
- 1:53:24Speaker 12: Yeah, I think it'll be closer, too. What do you said?
- 1:53:31Speaker 9: I know what you're thinking, Paul.
- 1:53:32Speaker 17: No.
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: You're thinking of taking the Colts, aren't you?
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: I was, but they burned me last week and got blistered. So, again,
- 1:53:38Speaker 5: I need to see it now before I say I
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: was wrong about the Colts. So I'm going to take
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: Kansas City. And I'll take the points with six and
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: a half.
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: Paul, you're right with me. I was tempted to take
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: the Colts as well, but I'm not there yet. I
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: think they're a good team.
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: I think they're better than they looked last week.
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: But I'm going to take the Chiefs to win, but
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: I'll take the points.
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: Not necessarily defensively, though. That was a pretty bad performance
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: against Baltimore.
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: Monday night, it's the Giants, 1-0, the new darlings of
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: the tri-state area against the Rams, 0-1. What is wrong
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: with you?
- 1:54:15Speaker 5: The Rams by seven.
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: It's another good, fun little game here. It's a tough one.
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: It is a tough one.
- 1:54:24Speaker 6: I'm going to take the Rams to win the game,
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: but I'm going to take the plus seven points for
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: the spunky Giants.
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: And I think they're going to be like all over
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: the map. It's just, you know, offense.
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: And then they give up big play and it's just
- 1:54:36Speaker 6: going to be a throw ride. depending on how you
- 1:54:38Speaker 6: feel about the Giants. But I'm going to take the Rams.
- 1:54:40Speaker 6: Do we think that was a lot of the flight stuff?
- 1:54:43Speaker 6: The Rams, that was just an Australia one-off.
- 1:54:44Speaker 9: You can't discount it because they were terrible.
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: I can't discount it because it's never happened before. So
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: maybe that is a thing. I don't think it was
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: much to do with that.
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: They just don't play well in Australia. It's a thing.
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: Historically.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: I think the Rams will win. They're too good.
- 1:55:00Speaker 12: Rams win. Rams cover, I guess.
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm going to take the Rams both ways. I
- 1:55:08Speaker 5: think that they have a lot of respect for their coach.
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: Their coach took some heat for doing it the way
- 1:55:15Speaker 5: he did it, and I think they would rally for
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: him and put a much better performance together.
- 1:55:20Speaker 3: I'll take the Rams, but the Giants cover. I'm actually
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: tempted to take the Giants in this game as well,
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: but we'll see.
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: If the Giants win the game, all right. You know,
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: there's a lot of bad stuff going on with the Rams.
- 1:55:31Speaker 4: They lose Miles Gary. I mean, the big prize thing.
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: He's out. He's on IR.
- 1:55:34Speaker 12: The expectations.
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: Yeah, the expectations sometimes.
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: Katie, bar the door.
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: They can weigh you down.
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: You got Scataboo. You got, you know, Jackson Dart, who's
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: made for New York.
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: Neighbors.
- 1:55:45Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:55:46Speaker 9: Have you seen his drips?
- 1:55:48Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 1:55:49Speaker 8: Rivals?
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:55:50Speaker 12: Oh, I saw a hilarious tweet.
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: They got the NASCAR front on defense. I mean, they're
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: a good team to watch. I mean, we'll.
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: See if John Harbaugh pulls it all together, but Joe
- 1:56:00Speaker 6: Burrow's got nothing on Jackson Dart when it comes to
- 1:56:02Speaker 6: dressing up.
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: It's like the one-eye thing going on. I don't know.
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: Lisa Left Eye Lopez?
- 1:56:08Speaker 7: No, no.
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: I didn't feel like her raps were always necessary for
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: the songs. They kind of usually took me out of it.
- 1:56:13Speaker 3: Somebody said about Joe Burrow's outfit that he looks like
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: someone on their way to do a four-year lease for
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: a Subaru.
- 1:56:24Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: There's a lot of Subarus in my town.
- 1:56:25Speaker 12: He's got an endorsement deal with Aloe Yoga.
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: Stay away from that one.
- 1:56:29Speaker 12: And I don't think they're doing him a lot of favors.
- 1:56:32Speaker 24: Yeah.
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: Cincinnati way. It's the Cincinnati way.
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: We got one more game.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: All right. Now we go back. The Sunday at one
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: where all games should be played.
- 1:56:40Speaker 5: Has God intended.
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: Pittsburgh 1-0 against the 0-1 New England Patriots.
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: Patriots by five and a half.
- 1:56:47Speaker 9: That's a lot of respect for the Patriots.
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: Yeah. Listen, all you Patriots fans who say that the
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: Patriots don't get respect, you can't say that this week.
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: You know, I think the Patriots got a lot of respect.
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: They know what I know in that game against Seattle.
- 1:57:02Speaker 3: That was a game against two teams. NF Super Bowl contenders.
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: And it was a fist fight, and they lost 13-10,
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: but they're a good team, and that's reflected in the
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: spread this week.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to go with the Patriots.
- 1:57:17Speaker 6: I think they get their butts in gear this week,
- 1:57:19Speaker 6: you know, win the line of scrimmage a little more,
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: a little more in the run game. Drake makes a few,
- 1:57:23Speaker 6: I guess, a couple less mistakes, maybe one or two,
- 1:57:26Speaker 6: but I'm going to take the Patriots 23-13.
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: 27-17 New England.
- 1:57:38Speaker 5: Alex has it all wrong. I'm going to take the
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: Patriots to win 27-16. For all the reasons we talked
- 1:57:46Speaker 5: about all week, I think they bounce back. I think
- 1:57:50Speaker 5: they've had a lot of time to stew over a
- 1:57:52Speaker 5: bad performance in Seattle. And the home crowd gives them
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: a little energy. I'd like to see Romeo Dobbs get
- 1:57:59Speaker 5: involved early. Get that... Let's not have that be a thing. Early, medium, late.
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: Get them involved.
- 1:58:06Speaker 4: And I think the turnovers that killed them in this
- 1:58:09Speaker 4: game last year do not repeat themselves. Matter of fact,
- 1:58:11Speaker 4: it's the Patriots defense that is forcing turnovers.
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: Let's go. So I'm still waiting to see about this
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: offense for the New England Patriots. And because of that,
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: I've tempered my score a little bit.
- 1:58:25Speaker 7: 29-11.
- 1:58:29Speaker 9: Patriots win.
- 1:58:31Speaker 5: I was waiting for like 56 to 10.
- 1:58:33Speaker 3: I can't go into the 30s yet. I can't go
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: into the 30s yet.
- 1:58:36Speaker 5: I've tempered my score a little bit.
- 1:58:38Speaker 7: 29-11.
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: Patriots win the game.
- 1:58:41Speaker 5: Three-score win. I've tempered my score.
- 1:58:43Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:58:44Speaker 3: That's going to be it for this week's Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:58:47Speaker 3: Appreciate it. Remember, next week we start 11-1 on Tuesday.
- 1:58:52Speaker 3: Don't forget.
- 1:58:52Speaker 9: We'll see you next Tuesday.
