- 0:34What is going on, everybody?
- 0:36Welcome to Lunch with Clydesdale.
- 0:38It's the time we take a
- 0:39little break out of our workday, hang out,
- 0:42take a breath, do our thing.
- 0:45Still fighting this sinus infection.
- 0:47Bear with me today.
- 0:48I'm hoping I can get through
- 0:49this unscathed.
- 0:51But yeah, we'll get through some stuff.
- 0:58I'm going to throw a dart first.
- 1:00Here we go.
- 1:03Ah, geez.
- 1:04I just need to give up.
- 1:08So, yeah,
- 1:09we got Craig and Jody already in
- 1:10the chat.
- 1:11Good to see you guys.
- 1:12It is CrossFit Games Week
- 1:15for the age groups here in Columbus.
- 1:20It's crazy all the DMs I'm
- 1:21getting asking for referrals for gyms,
- 1:25for food, for things to do.
- 1:29It's been a lot of fun kind
- 1:30of reconnecting with some
- 1:31of my Masters friends, especially,
- 1:35but really fun.
- 1:36And I can't wait to see everybody.
- 1:38Later this week.
- 1:40Last night,
- 1:41we had a lot of talk about the
- 1:42programming for the age
- 1:43group CrossFit games.
- 1:46Hiller put out a video, gosh,
- 1:48about an hour ago,
- 1:50giving his feelings about it.
- 1:53And they were not good.
- 1:58The thing that's crazy about
- 1:59this every year.
- 2:03They put out the programming.
- 2:05Hiller says it's bad.
- 2:07They get defensive.
- 2:09It's a back and forth,
- 2:11but every year we end up in
- 2:12the same spot.
- 2:16Every year we end up in the
- 2:17exact same spot.
- 2:19We were the year before
- 2:20where you have this programming.
- 2:23That's not finding the fittest.
- 2:27It's very biased.
- 2:29And, and then here we go.
- 2:32We got to fight through all this stuff,
- 2:33right?
- 2:37Hiller said in his video
- 2:39that this is the heaviest
- 2:40programming he has seen at a major event.
- 2:50What is one of the biggest
- 2:51problems we have in the age group games,
- 2:53especially the Masters, is PED use.
- 2:59If you continue to program heavy,
- 3:04what are you going to
- 3:04continue to see to combat the heavy?
- 3:08You're going to continue to
- 3:10see more PED use, more PED cover-up,
- 3:14and more sketchiness as to
- 3:17whether this person truly
- 3:19is or is not the fittest in
- 3:21the world for that age group.
- 3:23It's one thing to have a
- 3:25competition like Legends,
- 3:28And you can program it however you want.
- 3:30But when you're talking
- 3:31about the CrossFit Games,
- 3:33you're trying to find the
- 3:34fittest person on earth.
- 3:37And with that comes a
- 3:38responsibility that the
- 3:39programming should be
- 3:41non-biased and more
- 3:44balanced to be able to find
- 3:46the best people for each age group.
- 3:53John George, the programming is bad.
- 3:56CrossFit needs to take it over.
- 3:57Why can't Dave kick someone
- 3:59to follow or mimic what he programs?
- 4:06Yeah,
- 4:06I actually said this to Carolyn and
- 4:10Jamie this morning on our text string.
- 4:13Why don't you use that to
- 4:14build a bench of programmers?
- 4:18And that way you keep the
- 4:19connection with the CrossFit Games.
- 4:23And maybe Boz does them for a year.
- 4:26Then maybe the next year, Boz does half,
- 4:30and you bring on a new
- 4:31person to do some of that.
- 4:33And then you have people
- 4:34that can be elevated as
- 4:36people leave to program all
- 4:39of CrossFit in different
- 4:41capacities instead of
- 4:43having just one programmer
- 4:46for everything.
- 4:48We have one year where Boz did it,
- 4:49so we have someone with
- 4:51experience other than Dave now.
- 4:53But for years, we really didn't.
- 4:55Why not use the age group
- 4:57games or the adaptive games
- 5:00as a way to build your
- 5:01bench so that in the future
- 5:04you have someone to take
- 5:06over those things?
- 5:10That only really makes sense to me.
- 5:12And why can't you kind of
- 5:15mimic what's happening at
- 5:17the elite CrossFit games
- 5:19for the masters and the age groups?
- 5:23Why can't you take the
- 5:24workouts that were done in
- 5:26Albany and take eight of
- 5:29them or nine of them and
- 5:31then scale them
- 5:34appropriately for each age group?
- 5:39And that way,
- 5:39then the same test is being
- 5:42given to all levels.
- 5:45I don't know.
- 5:46Maybe that just makes too much sense.
- 5:47I don't know.
- 5:53Shanna says,
- 5:54I love the games Boz programmed.
- 5:56A lot of people looking back
- 5:58are looking back on that
- 5:59very fondly that he did a very,
- 6:02very good job.
- 6:05I think he's remembered for
- 6:06some of the crazy stuff he did,
- 6:08like the crossover double unders,
- 6:09which we brought back this year,
- 6:11different things like that.
- 6:12But I really think, yeah.
- 6:19Yeah.
- 6:21John George,
- 6:22age group programming has been
- 6:23trending toward a strength
- 6:24bias for years.
- 6:25Look at the athletes.
- 6:26They're typically bigger and
- 6:27stronger with some clear mobility issues.
- 6:30Gymnastics is sparse.
- 6:32Yeah,
- 6:32I think that's exactly what Hiller said.
- 6:35Almost to a T. You and him
- 6:36are right on the same page.
- 6:42So there's that going on in
- 6:43the space right now.
- 6:44At one thirty p.m.,
- 6:46Bob Jennings is going to be Eastern time,
- 6:48one thirty p.m.
- 6:49Eastern time.
- 6:51Bob Jennings is going to be
- 6:52on with get with the programming,
- 6:53talking about the master's programming.
- 6:56We'll see what happens there.
- 6:57We'll see if they push back
- 6:59on him at all with the
- 7:00programming or if they just
- 7:02let him speak and give his
- 7:05reasonings for.
- 7:12Shanna,
- 7:12the games this year is a reflection
- 7:14of Bob.
- 7:15I truly think that he
- 7:19programs games that he would be good at.
- 7:27Bob is a former games athlete.
- 7:29I think he programs these
- 7:30for what he would be good at.
- 7:36Jody Lynn,
- 7:37I didn't realize PEDs were
- 7:38rampant in Masters.
- 7:40All of the positive tests
- 7:41came from the masters last year.
- 7:44Um,
- 7:46and there were others there that it was
- 7:48quite obvious they were
- 7:49using and somehow got around the test.
- 7:52Um,
- 7:57It's a hard thing to capture
- 7:59in the master's group
- 8:00because there is an
- 8:01allowable amount of
- 8:03testosterone that men with low T can take,
- 8:07and it's okay.
- 8:09So at what point is okay,
- 8:14you have a line that can be blurred.
- 8:16That's the best way to put it.
- 8:19But the guys that popped
- 8:22last year were using like
- 8:23the whole pharmacy.
- 8:25They weren't using just testosterone.
- 8:30And if you go back into my
- 8:31behind the scenes,
- 8:32three of them I interviewed
- 8:34before I knew they popped,
- 8:36then they popped,
- 8:37and then they look
- 8:38ridiculous saying what they
- 8:39said after it was found out
- 8:42that they had popped.
- 8:46Aaron Fraser says,
- 8:47machines have made all
- 8:49programming skew toward bigger athletes.
- 8:52Well,
- 8:53I think you have to then balance it
- 8:55with gymnastics,
- 8:56and there are no gymnastics
- 8:58in this year's age group CrossFit games.
- 9:01Maybe one workout out of the
- 9:03eight is a gymnastics workout.
- 9:11So there it is.
- 9:14I don't want to go on about that.
- 9:16We hit that pretty hard last night.
- 9:18We'll see how it plays out this week.
- 9:20But it's very disheartening
- 9:21for my two co-hosts where
- 9:24Carol Prevost is one of the
- 9:25most well-rounded athletes
- 9:27in the CrossFit space at
- 9:28the elite level and really
- 9:31should dominate the
- 9:32CrossFit games at the age group level.
- 9:36And it's iffy because of the
- 9:37programming where she's
- 9:38going to be in this whole mix.
- 9:40So that's going to be crazy.
- 9:44And Jamie's admitted that
- 9:45she is more of a gymnastics
- 9:48endurance athlete.
- 9:50And this programming is not good for her.
- 9:52And we'll see.
- 9:53She is so fit that she'll
- 9:55probably overcome some of that.
- 9:57But who knows at what level
- 9:59that will happen.
- 10:02So.
- 10:03Tune in, find out this week.
- 10:06I'll be down there all weekend.
- 10:08I'm going to try to do lunch
- 10:09shows from there if I can
- 10:11find a quiet spot to kind
- 10:13of perch up with my iPad
- 10:18and at least talk to you guys for fifteen,
- 10:20twenty minutes,
- 10:21maybe a little bit longer
- 10:23if I can while I'm down there.
- 10:26So that is the plan this week.
- 10:33Jose, Bears looking good last night.
- 10:35They looked really good last night.
- 10:38As a Bears fan, long-suffering Bears fan,
- 10:41I don't know if we've had
- 10:42an offense ever that looked
- 10:44as good as they did last night.
- 10:49Having an offensive
- 10:49coordinator and a head
- 10:50coach who knows what he's
- 10:52doing is amazing.
- 10:55Both Caleb Williams and
- 10:56Tyson Bajent looked phenomenal.
- 11:01The way Tyson Bajent looked last night,
- 11:05I wouldn't be surprised if
- 11:07teams are calling,
- 11:09trying to get him on their
- 11:10roster to possibly be a starter.
- 11:15It's going to be an interesting year.
- 11:18I'll leave that at that.
- 11:19But as soon as the show was
- 11:20done last night, I went up,
- 11:22fast-forwarded through the
- 11:22first half so I could catch
- 11:25everything I could.
- 11:27And I had goosebumps.
- 11:29I was so giddy.
- 11:30But I've been there before.
- 11:32We'll see how it all plays out coming up.
- 11:38So now to the main topic of the show.
- 11:41And...
- 11:44This all kind of started last week.
- 11:49I was driving home from my
- 11:52doctor's appointment,
- 11:53and I was listening to the
- 11:56Outside the Box podcast
- 11:58with Caitlin and Mesa,
- 12:02and I got all triggered.
- 12:06so it started there and then
- 12:08friday night I started to
- 12:11watch the netflix
- 12:12documentary on fit for tv
- 12:15the biggest loser story and
- 12:20all of that just made me
- 12:21think about the
- 12:23misconceptions people have
- 12:25about fat people so if you
- 12:30don't don't know my story
- 12:33started this whole thing at
- 12:35somewhere over five hundred
- 12:36pounds probably five twenty
- 12:38five five thirty um I
- 12:42walked into a crossfit gym
- 12:45back in two thousand eleven
- 12:48I didn't walk in I was
- 12:49brought in by my next door
- 12:52neighbor who owned a
- 12:52crossfit gym brought in
- 12:56Murph was on the board.
- 12:58We did Murph and that day
- 13:00changed my life forever.
- 13:03I, and
- 13:05ended up losing well over
- 13:07two hundred pounds got down
- 13:09to two sixty um was living
- 13:13life great I think I
- 13:17probably wasn't doing it
- 13:18right but I was living I
- 13:21mean I was really living
- 13:22life I was playing flag
- 13:24football with
- 13:25twenty-year-olds at in my
- 13:27late forties I was playing
- 13:29softball I was doing a lot
- 13:31of stuff that I hadn't done in forever
- 13:35And then the back injury
- 13:37happened and everything
- 13:39went off the rails.
- 13:40And we'll talk about that at some point.
- 13:42I don't know if today's the day.
- 13:46So I was that person who
- 13:54everybody says is too
- 13:56intimidated to walk into a CrossFit gym.
- 14:00And what got me started is
- 14:02I'm listening to Mesa talk
- 14:05about the new CrossFit
- 14:08marketing campaign and that
- 14:10Forging Elite Fitness and
- 14:13Pukie the Clown were too
- 14:16hardcore to allow diversity
- 14:21into the CrossFit gyms.
- 14:28What I want to say to that
- 14:29is I don't think people
- 14:31understand the mindset of a fat person.
- 14:36They think they need to be coddled.
- 14:38They do not.
- 14:41They do not.
- 14:42Plus, we're all different.
- 14:44We all have different views of things.
- 14:47It'd be just like saying
- 14:48that a black man would be
- 14:50intimidated to walk into a CrossFit gym.
- 14:53No, some would, some wouldn't,
- 14:56depending on them and their
- 14:57character and their
- 14:59upbringing and their personality.
- 15:03It's going to vary.
- 15:05A fat person is the same way.
- 15:09The greatest thing that ever
- 15:10happened to me was walking
- 15:12into a CrossFit gym.
- 15:14And nobody coddled me in that moment.
- 15:18They loved on me.
- 15:21They said I could do it.
- 15:23but they didn't like make it easy for me.
- 15:29When you're fat and you're
- 15:32looking for an answer,
- 15:34you don't want a watered
- 15:35down version of the answer.
- 15:38You want the elite version of the answer.
- 15:45So I don't understand why
- 15:47forging elite fitness would
- 15:50intimidate people from
- 15:52walking in the door.
- 15:56I'm five hundred and twenty
- 15:57five pounds and I need an
- 15:59answer and I'm looking for answers.
- 16:02I want the elite answer.
- 16:05I want the best answer.
- 16:08I don't want a watered down
- 16:09version because you think I
- 16:10can't handle it.
- 16:16That's.
- 16:18That's the stuff that got me fired up,
- 16:20right?
- 16:20And I don't know how pukey
- 16:21the clown keeps someone out of there.
- 16:26Let me ask you,
- 16:27if you've ever watched an
- 16:27episode of The Biggest Loser,
- 16:31everybody throws up on the first episode.
- 16:34You know,
- 16:35that's what Peaky the Clown represents.
- 16:37Everybody throws up on the first episode.
- 16:39Go to a casting call back in
- 16:42two thousand five for The Biggest Loser.
- 16:44And the lines were around the block,
- 16:47knowing that you're going
- 16:48to come on the show and
- 16:50they're going to make you throw up.
- 16:55fat people were looking for
- 16:56an answer and they were
- 16:58willing to put themselves
- 17:00through that through that
- 17:03to get the answer so to
- 17:10tell me the CrossFit's new
- 17:13marketing campaign which is
- 17:15very much like the old
- 17:16campaign is keeping people
- 17:19out of the box you're out
- 17:21of your damn mind
- 17:27fluffy fit agreed.
- 17:28We don't want to be coddled.
- 17:30We want to be part of the
- 17:31solution like everybody else.
- 17:35So, so, so much.
- 17:38It wasn't that it wasn't that I,
- 17:42I didn't know what the
- 17:43answer was when I was five
- 17:44hundred twenty five pounds.
- 17:46I didn't know what CrossFit was.
- 17:51I needed someone to say, hey,
- 17:54I'm doing this on Thursday.
- 17:57Would you come into the gym, meet me there,
- 18:01and I'll show you what it is,
- 18:03and we'll go through a workout,
- 18:05and we'll do it.
- 18:07It wasn't watered down.
- 18:09It was scaled appropriately.
- 18:12It was, this is what we're trying to do.
- 18:15This is why we're doing it.
- 18:17This is the stimulus you're
- 18:18going to reach.
- 18:20And this is going to change your life.
- 18:28And that is why it works.
- 18:37T-Bird says, some do, some don't.
- 18:39So she is right.
- 18:40That doesn't appeal to all.
- 18:42Not every fat person will
- 18:43feel the same as you.
- 18:48I said that when I started this, T-Bird,
- 18:50that it's just like any
- 18:52other group of people.
- 18:54There are going to be some
- 18:55people that feel that way and some don't.
- 18:58But I am telling you,
- 19:00a fat person doesn't want a
- 19:02mediocre version of fitness.
- 19:04They want elite fitness.
- 19:06They want an answer.
- 19:15To say that...
- 19:17come for fun and happiness
- 19:21that doesn't work um jose
- 19:34reina preach john george is
- 19:37this the doctor from the
- 19:39barbies in the biz the show yeah
- 19:42If so, not shocked.
- 19:43They have motive and hope of
- 19:45CrossFit failing.
- 19:46I don't know about that.
- 19:50I do think they bring up some good points.
- 19:53I don't think the show is great yet.
- 19:55I think they're trying to do this.
- 20:03T-Bird,
- 20:04why would you shortchange yourself?
- 20:07Why wouldn't you want elite fitness?
- 20:13Don't we all want the best
- 20:16that we can get?
- 20:18Like, I don't go to the store and say,
- 20:19well, I just want the okay version.
- 20:22I want the best.
- 20:31Matthew Murphy,
- 20:32it's fun and happy because
- 20:33you do something hard with your friends.
- 20:37Agreed.
- 20:38And I don't want to be lied to.
- 20:40Like the new marketing
- 20:41campaign that CrossFit is
- 20:42the cure and it's going to
- 20:44be hard and you're going to
- 20:45have to go through some
- 20:46stuff is just the truth.
- 20:53I've tried to lose weight
- 20:56since my twenties.
- 20:58And every easy way is fake
- 21:02and not real and doesn't work.
- 21:05You have to put in the work.
- 21:07It's just what it is.
- 21:10And then I watched this
- 21:11documentary on Friday night.
- 21:13I watched all three episodes.
- 21:15I binged it all.
- 21:16And just to be frank,
- 21:17I've watched every episode
- 21:18of The Biggest Loser when they were on.
- 21:23It was hope for me for a minute.
- 21:26Not realizing that it wasn't realistic.
- 21:29I thought it was inspirational,
- 21:31but what they were doing wasn't real.
- 21:34It was for TV.
- 21:37But the fact that
- 21:40Her name was, I'm terrible with names,
- 21:44Tracy Yukich.
- 21:45That's season eight.
- 21:47The first competition of the
- 21:50show was to run a mile on the beach.
- 21:53And she gave herself for Abdo.
- 21:56And that the producer of the show said,
- 21:58we couldn't believe that
- 22:00someone was willing to push
- 22:01their body to that level.
- 22:08well, you're underestimating these people.
- 22:10They're looking for an answer.
- 22:12They're willing to do
- 22:13whatever it is to stay on the show.
- 22:16And she pushed herself so
- 22:17hard because it was the
- 22:19only option she had that
- 22:21she thought could get her to lose weight,
- 22:23that she pushed herself
- 22:25beyond her limits and into
- 22:27rhabdomyolysis.
- 22:30And after the doctors even said,
- 22:32you should probably go home, she said, no,
- 22:35I want to stay.
- 22:36I want to see this through.
- 22:39That is insane because that
- 22:43is the mindset.
- 22:45People are looking for
- 22:46answers and it's not easy
- 22:51and they can't be thrown
- 22:52into one bucket that I do
- 22:54agree with T-Bird.
- 22:56Not everybody's going to
- 22:57push their body to that level,
- 23:00but they're different
- 23:02buckets and they need to be
- 23:03treated differently.
- 23:05Going on that show,
- 23:06they were going to force you to throw up.
- 23:08They were going to give you
- 23:09temptations that weren't even realistic.
- 23:12Locking you in a room of cake.
- 23:15Locking you in a room of sweets.
- 23:17And try not to...
- 23:21try not to eat anything
- 23:23that's not realistic that
- 23:24those aren't the real
- 23:25demons that a fat person
- 23:27goes through you know it's
- 23:31when you go out with
- 23:31friends and they're doing
- 23:32something and you want to
- 23:33be a part of it that's the
- 23:35real temptation then they
- 23:42would put you through these
- 23:43embarrassing tasks that
- 23:45we're going to make fat
- 23:46people look stupid
- 23:49And then some of them overcame that.
- 23:51And that's why it was great TV.
- 24:01Jody, I've never thrown up doing CrossFit.
- 24:03Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
- 24:05I've thrown up too many times.
- 24:08Maybe I'm just weak stomach.
- 24:11Actually,
- 24:11most of the times I throw up is
- 24:12when I was doing team
- 24:13competitions and I didn't
- 24:15want to let down a partner.
- 24:20That's where it gets me.
- 24:25But yeah.
- 24:27But people signed up for
- 24:28this Biggest Loser because
- 24:31they thought it was their only answer.
- 24:36When I was asked to come to CrossFit Gym,
- 24:38I'd never heard of CrossFit.
- 24:40I didn't know what it was.
- 24:43I was brought in and shown...
- 24:45in two thousand eleven what
- 24:46it was and I was walked
- 24:48through it and it woke up
- 24:51something in me that
- 24:52nothing else ever did all
- 24:54the times on a treadmill
- 24:56all the times on an
- 24:57elliptical thinking I had
- 24:59to do five hours of cardio
- 25:01to burn enough calories to
- 25:03get through whatever was
- 25:06not working and um
- 25:15And CrossFit gave me a love
- 25:17for something again.
- 25:19And it gave me a community
- 25:20that really supported me and loved on me.
- 25:24And that affiliate will
- 25:25always have a special place
- 25:26in my heart because those people, like,
- 25:30they truly, truly cared about my success.
- 25:34And that's where the real victory came.
- 25:41Now,
- 25:44T-Bert says, I love the show too,
- 25:46but not a lot of them kept a weight off.
- 25:48I agree.
- 25:49What we find out in this
- 25:50documentary is it wasn't real.
- 25:54It was caffeine pills.
- 25:57It was drinking lemon juice
- 25:58instead of eating meals.
- 26:00It was under calories by way
- 26:02more than is suggested by
- 26:05anybody from the medical field.
- 26:08It was a competition to lose
- 26:11a lot of weight in a short amount of time,
- 26:14and it didn't stay off for most of them.
- 26:18And you find out at the very
- 26:19end of the documentary that
- 26:21those that you see now who
- 26:23look like they've kept the
- 26:24weight off are using other
- 26:26things to do that.
- 26:32And that is, I mean,
- 26:34they're using the Ozempic.
- 26:35They're using the GL-P ones.
- 26:40They're doing that to keep
- 26:42the weight off because they
- 26:44are looking for any answer
- 26:46to be in better shape.
- 26:51And it's sad.
- 26:55But what I thought the
- 26:57documentary showed is the desire
- 27:01that fat people,
- 27:06the desire that fat people
- 27:07had to be better.
- 27:12What they were willing to
- 27:13put their bodies through to be better.
- 27:19That's what it shows.
- 27:21The mindset of that fat person.
- 27:26And it struck a chord with me.
- 27:28Now,
- 27:29what I did through that time from two
- 27:30thousand eleven to two
- 27:32thousand seventeen ish when
- 27:34I had my first back injury.
- 27:37I was not living a balanced life.
- 27:40You know,
- 27:40we talk about balance and a lot
- 27:41of different things.
- 27:43And during that time,
- 27:45I was losing a tremendous
- 27:46amount of weight,
- 27:47but I was living a very
- 27:49extreme life by eating a
- 27:52lot of healthy food and
- 27:55going to the gym a lot.
- 27:59And I wasn't the best father
- 28:01and I wasn't the best
- 28:03husband that I could be
- 28:04during those times.
- 28:06I thought I was because I
- 28:08was able to do more with them.
- 28:10Like my daughter and I would go on hikes.
- 28:12My wife and I would go on walks.
- 28:15We would do all of those things
- 28:17And I thought I was being better,
- 28:19but because I was focused
- 28:20so much on myself and so
- 28:23much on my meal prep,
- 28:24so much on my meals that I was eating,
- 28:27so much on being at the gym
- 28:28a couple times a day,
- 28:30because of all of that, I wasn't.
- 28:33And now I'm having the
- 28:35hardest time finding the
- 28:38balance between the two.
- 28:40Like, how do I get the weight off again?
- 28:45Because I've gained a hundred pounds back.
- 28:50And I want to get that off again.
- 28:52But how do I do that and not
- 28:55be a shitty husband?
- 28:59I mean, my daughter's off on her own now.
- 29:02But how do I do that and not
- 29:04be so obsessed by it that I
- 29:08stay to being a good husband?
- 29:14Right?
- 29:16And so that's where my struggle is today.
- 29:19Because I want to find the right answer.
- 29:21And I'm back in that mindset
- 29:23of find me a solution.
- 29:27I'm willing to do whatever
- 29:28to be to get there.
- 29:31And I love CrossFit.
- 29:34And I want that to be a part
- 29:35of the solution.
- 29:37It's how do I find that in a
- 29:39way that makes sense for me and my wife.
- 29:49Biggest loser method was
- 29:50lock you away for six months,
- 29:52consume five to eight
- 29:53hundred calories and burn
- 29:54six to eight thousand.
- 29:56That is fine when you are filming,
- 29:58but setting you up for
- 29:59failure in the real world.
- 30:01True, true, true.
- 30:04John George,
- 30:05it was truly a boot camp with
- 30:07zero training or education
- 30:08on real life health and fitness.
- 30:10I thought Bob nailed it.
- 30:11It's an addiction and will
- 30:13always be there.
- 30:14You have to learn to live with it.
- 30:17Ken Walters' answer to
- 30:18everything is ribeye.
- 30:22Jose Reyna, in the later seasons,
- 30:24the trainer Bob Harper of
- 30:26Biggest Loser started
- 30:27utilizing the CrossFit
- 30:29methodology himself and
- 30:30with the contestants.
- 30:31He did.
- 30:32He did.
- 30:34He was part of Brick CrossFit in L.A.
- 30:39with...
- 30:43can see her her husband is
- 30:45jesse uh yeah and he had
- 30:49crossfitters on the show uh
- 30:52teaching some of the stuff
- 30:54I also had the privilege a
- 30:56couple years back uh holly
- 30:59mangold is from here in
- 31:00columbus she was on the
- 31:01show she was the olympic
- 31:03weightlifter uh that worked
- 31:05with bob throughout the show
- 31:08And she it was really eye
- 31:10opening because some of the
- 31:13stuff we saw on TV isn't
- 31:14actually what she went
- 31:16through while she was there.
- 31:20And when I talked to her,
- 31:21she had gained back almost
- 31:23all of the weight she had
- 31:24lost on the show.
- 31:27But it was really,
- 31:28really eye opening as to
- 31:29what she had kind of gone
- 31:30through during that time.
- 31:40Um, John George,
- 31:42you have to be selfish for health.
- 31:44Having a heart attack or
- 31:45poor health will leave you
- 31:46loved loved ones having to
- 31:48take care of you in the future.
- 31:50Be selfish.
- 31:51Just my opinion, not obsessive,
- 31:53just committed.
- 31:56Yeah, I think I can do it with balance.
- 31:58It's just finding it again.
- 32:00Um,
- 32:02But my personality is if I'm
- 32:05going to do something,
- 32:06I usually dive in headfirst, full bore,
- 32:10all in.
- 32:14And that's where I've got to be careful.
- 32:18I can do it with one class a
- 32:20day and I can do it with eating.
- 32:27Yeah, yeah.
- 32:29I do believe I do believe
- 32:30bob is dead on with the
- 32:32addiction part and it's
- 32:33always going to be there
- 32:35because when I got down to
- 32:36two sixty I told myself
- 32:38never again will I be never
- 32:40again will I be and sure
- 32:43enough I was and um and
- 32:54it's hard it's really really hard uh
- 32:59And I feel like I'm at a
- 33:00point in my life where if I'm not perfect,
- 33:05man, the weight comes back on so fast.
- 33:08So fast.
- 33:10Um, so, um,
- 33:25Megan Bauman,
- 33:26you hit the nail on the head.
- 33:28Mom of five here, two have special needs.
- 33:31Balance is crucial,
- 33:32but I still struggle with it.
- 33:34It is.
- 33:36I think that's the hardest
- 33:37part is I don't want to
- 33:41make excuses of metabolism
- 33:45or habit or whatever.
- 33:49But what I do want to say is
- 33:56like I really have to be dialed in.
- 33:59Like it has to be dead on,
- 34:02almost no exceptions for me
- 34:04to have success.
- 34:09And if I'm not,
- 34:10so then I start teetering
- 34:12back to that obsession.
- 34:15And that's really where I
- 34:17struggle a lot is finding
- 34:21the line between
- 34:23that makes life okay,
- 34:25as well as fitness okay.
- 34:36Shanna, that is my new life challenge,
- 34:39is to find balance.
- 34:41I'm not saying I'm not looking for it.
- 34:43I'm just saying it's hard.
- 34:44It's very, very hard to do.
- 34:50But all things great are hard.
- 34:54Like, life wasn't meant to be easy.
- 34:59But yeah.
- 35:03But I really,
- 35:03I just wanted to focus on the fact that
- 35:06watching these shows and
- 35:07hearing what people are
- 35:08saying is that if I feel
- 35:11like they just lump fat
- 35:13people into one bucket and
- 35:15that they all feel the same way.
- 35:17And I don't think that that
- 35:18is the case at all.
- 35:20Um,
- 35:23And I think if you watch
- 35:24this documentary and you
- 35:26see the veracity at which
- 35:29these contestants wanted to
- 35:30be on this show,
- 35:32it shows you that there are
- 35:34all levels of people and
- 35:36their desires to get healthy.
- 35:45But at the end of the day,
- 35:46I think the true success is
- 35:48loving on one another.
- 35:51And that's what happens in a
- 35:52CrossFit affiliate.
- 35:53Go in, love on one another,
- 35:56support each other,
- 35:58help you through the tough times,
- 36:00get you through.
- 36:01And that's why CrossFit is awesome.
- 36:03That's why the affiliates are awesome.
- 36:06And the coaches that own
- 36:07affiliates are awesome.
- 36:13So,
- 36:19T-Bird,
- 36:20I think that's what Mesa was trying
- 36:21to say.
- 36:22I don't think that's what
- 36:23she was trying to say.
- 36:27I think that she...
- 36:30in some aspects wants to
- 36:32water down what CrossFit is
- 36:35and thinks that will
- 36:36attract more people to the affiliates.
- 36:40And I disagree with that.
- 36:41I think that it's okay to be elite.
- 36:44It's okay to be hard.
- 36:46It's okay to be a gym,
- 36:48but it has to be combated
- 36:50with the love of the owner
- 36:52of the affiliate and the
- 36:53love of the members to
- 36:55build a community to support people.
- 37:03So I think she has that last
- 37:06part in her dissertation,
- 37:09and the first part is different.
- 37:19So anyway.
- 37:21Okay.
- 37:24that's my little monologue
- 37:25on the biggest loser it is
- 37:27a it is a good um an
- 37:30eye-opening documentary it
- 37:32went by really fast each
- 37:34episode it's only three
- 37:35episodes each one's maybe
- 37:37thirty thirty five minutes
- 37:39maybe somewhere in there uh
- 37:41it goes by really fast it
- 37:43was really a good watch um
- 37:48And it got me fired up.
- 37:49And hopefully that leads to
- 37:51some things getting some
- 37:54more balance in my life in
- 37:56the upcoming weeks.
- 37:59So I think we're going to
- 38:02end the show there today.
- 38:04Um, don't forget tomorrow.
- 38:07Uh,
- 38:08I'll be back here and then I'll be
- 38:10releasing the Hattie Cano
- 38:11episode one tomorrow afternoon.
- 38:15And then from Wednesday on,
- 38:17I'm probably going to be downtown, uh,
- 38:20at the masters and teenage
- 38:23CrossFit games.
- 38:24Again, I'll take my iPad pad with me.
- 38:27If I can find a quiet spot,
- 38:29we'll launch the show from there.
- 38:31Um,
- 38:33Who knows?
- 38:34Maybe I'll grab some people
- 38:35to hop on with me.
- 38:37We'll see.
- 38:42There's that.
- 38:44And can't wait to get down there.
- 38:46Hopefully this sinus
- 38:47infection is all gone by
- 38:49the time Wednesday rolls around.
- 38:52Megan Baumann, love when you get fired up.
- 38:57Wish my wife said the same thing.
- 39:00Anyway.
- 39:03Craig Pasley.
- 39:04Cool.
- 39:05Yep.
- 39:05All right, guys.
- 39:07I'm going to let you guys
- 39:08head back to work.
- 39:10I'm going to head back to work as well.
- 39:12And we'll see everybody
- 39:12tomorrow on lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 39:17Bye, guys.
