- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sororiti Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush. I'm Margo
- 0:15Speaker 3: and today is a producer hosted episode all about work week.
- 0:20Speaker 3: First off, give us the rundown. What was work week
- 0:23Speaker 3: like at your school?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Okay, work week, I personally.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Was.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I did work week for three years, so that means
- 0:33Speaker 2: I did as a senior, which at my school is
- 0:34Speaker 2: very uncommon. Usually girls would try to do it one
- 0:37Speaker 2: year and like be done because no one really wants
- 0:39Speaker 2: to be a part of it unless you're on recruitment team.
- 0:43Speaker 2: It's kind of like a thing at my school, like
- 0:44Speaker 2: girls trying to get out of it, Like they will
- 0:48Speaker 2: use every excuse in the book, and my sarty is
- 0:50Speaker 2: super strict, so they will deny so many excuses that
- 0:53Speaker 2: come in. But I did it for all three years,
- 0:56Speaker 2: and the purpose is just like obviously it's like teaching
- 0:59Speaker 2: all the logistics of bump groups and how you recruit
- 1:02Speaker 2: girls and all that. But at the end of the day,
- 1:04Speaker 2: like it's so much about just like getting to know
- 1:06Speaker 2: your PC and you're swarty. I feel like a lot
- 1:09Speaker 2: of girls after freshman year, you like live in a dorm,
- 1:12Speaker 2: and like you're kind of friends with your dorm girls,
- 1:15Speaker 2: and maybe you haven't gone as close with your own
- 1:18Speaker 2: swarty sisters just because sometimes that's how freshman year goes.
- 1:20Speaker 2: And I feel like work week really gives you a
- 1:23Speaker 2: chance to bond with everyone in your PC or the
- 1:25Speaker 2: girls below and above you because you're literally forced to
- 1:30Speaker 2: be together for ten hours a day, so you literally
- 1:32Speaker 2: have no other choice but to like get to know
- 1:34Speaker 2: each other and like enjoy it. And we'll jump into
- 1:37Speaker 2: all this in this episode, but you get placed in
- 1:40Speaker 2: certain bump groups and you get really close with the
- 1:42Speaker 2: girls in your bump group, And I don't know, so
- 1:45Speaker 2: for me, it was mostly about teaching you everything about recruitment,
- 1:50Speaker 2: but I feel like it is definitely about like getting
- 1:54Speaker 2: to know your PC and the PCs above, Like that's
- 1:57Speaker 2: a huge part of it that like I feel like
- 2:00Speaker 2: our whole sorority like really encourages.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll just kind of like go off of what
- 2:04Speaker 4: Shelby's already said, but I feel like our sorority was
- 2:09Speaker 4: I don't know about you selves, but like my sorority
- 2:12Speaker 4: was not as organized throughout the year and work week.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Our work week was extra long just because we like
- 2:19Speaker 4: did all of the housekeeping during that time too, Like
- 2:22Speaker 4: we were learning how to recruit, and we were like
- 2:25Speaker 4: we had this huge old house that just like it
- 2:29Speaker 4: was kind of our job to maintain or figure out
- 2:32Speaker 4: like how we were going to maintain it. So if
- 2:34Speaker 4: there were things that needed to be clean or organized,
- 2:37Speaker 4: or like all these old photos and photo albums that
- 2:39Speaker 4: we needed to do. And then like nobody knew the
- 2:43Speaker 4: song for our sorority, so like we drilled that during
- 2:45Speaker 4: work week. We made sure everyone went through like certain
- 2:48Speaker 4: trainings that we had to do, so we kind of
- 2:50Speaker 4: just jam packed all of our like sorority house keeping
- 2:53Speaker 4: into one week, especially for the older members that we knew,
- 2:57Speaker 4: like we're going to show up to certain meetings throughout
- 3:02Speaker 4: the year, like or like would get dropped if they
- 3:05Speaker 4: hadn't done certain training, so we would do that during
- 3:07Speaker 4: work week. But like it is a tightly run ship.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I feel like work week like no hours go wasted.
- 3:15Speaker 4: You are really working every day for ten hours making
- 3:18Speaker 4: sure the house is in tip top shape for recruitment,
- 3:22Speaker 4: but also like to last the year because you don't
- 3:24Speaker 4: know if we're ever going to get hands on this
- 3:26Speaker 4: stuff later on. You're practicing for recruitment, practicing with other houses,
- 3:32Speaker 4: You're getting the.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Flowers ready, the signage.
- 3:35Speaker 4: It's all hands on deck, and it's kind of wild
- 3:39Speaker 4: how much can come together in just one week. And
- 3:43Speaker 4: I agree with you Shelves that it's a time when
- 3:45Speaker 4: you get really close with like some of the older girls.
- 3:48Speaker 4: If you're underclassmen or an upperclassman, like you might not
- 3:51Speaker 4: really want to be there at the beginning of the week,
- 3:53Speaker 4: but all of your friends and sororities are doing the
- 3:56Speaker 4: same thing, and like the guys in the frats are
- 3:58Speaker 4: also doing the same thing at the same time. It's
- 4:00Speaker 4: kind of like there's no better place or anywhere else,
- 4:03Speaker 4: like you would be unless you had you were working
- 4:05Speaker 4: or had an internship. But you do get really close
- 4:09Speaker 4: with everyone in the house at that time, and it's
- 4:11Speaker 4: it's like ends up being like some of my favorite
- 4:13Speaker 4: memories that I had and like are the reason why
- 4:15Speaker 4: I'm close with some of the upperclassmen.
- 4:18Speaker 5: I think my situation definitely some similarities, but I think
- 4:21Speaker 5: my situation was a little bit different because I joined
- 4:23Speaker 5: my sorority as a junior. I didn't obviously have any
- 4:27Speaker 5: other experience with work week, so I actually did do
- 4:30Speaker 5: it my senior year, even though it wasn't as common
- 4:32Speaker 5: for seniors to do it. I kind of felt like
- 4:34Speaker 5: it was an experience I wanted to have if I
- 4:36Speaker 5: was going to go through all the effort and time
- 4:38Speaker 5: to join Authrority, I wanted to like have the really
- 4:40Speaker 5: full experience. But I can say like as a senior,
- 4:45Speaker 5: it is definitely a thing that people really try to
- 4:47Speaker 5: get out of it. It was definitely unique that I
- 4:50Speaker 5: did it as a senior, and I was particularly really
- 4:54Speaker 5: close with a lot of the sophomore so I was
- 4:56Speaker 5: able to get a lot out of it and had
- 4:57Speaker 5: a really great time with them, and it was an
- 4:59Speaker 5: incredible bond experience. But I think I was one of
- 5:02Speaker 5: like three seniors that showed up to anything, and in
- 5:05Speaker 5: a weird way, I think, not like an advantage, but
- 5:08Speaker 5: I think that there was definitely an element of closeness
- 5:10Speaker 5: I felt to my sorority that some of the other
- 5:13Speaker 5: seniors sort of like kind of fell out of because
- 5:16Speaker 5: I made the effort to show up and connect with
- 5:18Speaker 5: a lot of the younger the younger girls and the underclassman,
- 5:21Speaker 5: so I think there's definitely a lot of benefits to going.
- 5:23Speaker 5: But I can't speak for the other girls who were
- 5:25Speaker 5: in it for four years. I can tell that there
- 5:27Speaker 5: was probably a lot of burnout, but having it be
- 5:29Speaker 5: like a very new and exciting thing made me want
- 5:31Speaker 5: to do it.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I was.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Also I've only done work Week once because I joined
- 5:35Speaker 1: my sorority late as well. And I think it's just
- 5:39Speaker 1: like one of those things it's just so unbelievably necessary
- 5:43Speaker 1: to do, just because there is just so much that
- 5:45Speaker 1: goes into it, and like I couldn't imagine not doing
- 5:49Speaker 1: work Week but then doing Rush and like expecting to
- 5:51Speaker 1: know the things that we do. There's just so many
- 5:53Speaker 1: small logistics and rules that like kind of go into it,
- 5:57Speaker 1: knowing how to like properly go through fruitment that are
- 6:00Speaker 1: just huge. And it's like all the way from learning
- 6:03Speaker 1: your songs and learning your chants and learning like how
- 6:05Speaker 1: to like all make that come together with one hundred
- 6:08Speaker 1: and fifty two hundred girls like all trying to learn
- 6:11Speaker 1: these things together as well as like your bump groups
- 6:14Speaker 1: you're timing learning like yeah, kind of those logistics, But
- 6:19Speaker 1: it's definitely something that's like super super cercial and like
- 6:21Speaker 1: you get super close with the girls in your bump
- 6:22Speaker 1: group as well, so that's also a really nice thing.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I totally agree. Yeah, it's like such a fun process,
- 6:29Speaker 2: but also like kind of just a lot going on
- 6:32Speaker 2: at the same time, and like I feel like I
- 6:35Speaker 2: also was thinking about this when you guys are talking
- 6:37Speaker 2: about I feel like every year there's so much drama
- 6:39Speaker 2: that happens too. Like you're like coming back from summer
- 6:42Speaker 2: and like some people were like trying to see their
- 6:45Speaker 2: like situationships for the first time, and there was like
- 6:47Speaker 2: girls crying in the soarty house, and like you're also
- 6:50Speaker 2: then being trapped downstairs for eight hours and girls are
- 6:53Speaker 2: like it was just like sometimes like the most going
- 6:56Speaker 2: on and you had like nowhere to go, Like there
- 6:58Speaker 2: was no escape. You could barely even like go to
- 7:00Speaker 2: a workout class because it's just so many hours during
- 7:02Speaker 2: the day and I feel like everyone's like the emotions
- 7:07Speaker 2: get really high at the end.
- 7:09Speaker 4: My first work week was pretty unique in the fact
- 7:11Speaker 4: of like and we've talked about it on here before,
- 7:14Speaker 4: but I think the school that I went to, UCLA
- 7:17Speaker 4: and then University of Washington are like the only other
- 7:19Speaker 4: schools that do this, but we did like a summer
- 7:22Speaker 4: after freshman year, like a summer camp situation where we
- 7:25Speaker 4: lived in the fraternities for like six weeks. And we
- 7:28Speaker 4: had gone from like a bunch of different sorority girls,
- 7:31Speaker 4: like girls from different sororities were living in a.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Frat house for six weeks.
- 7:35Speaker 4: We got so close, and then it was like, Okay,
- 7:38Speaker 4: everyone go move into your separate sorority houses. You have
- 7:41Speaker 4: like a day to move out of the frat into
- 7:43Speaker 4: your sorority house and start work week. And I don't know, Shelby,
- 7:47Speaker 4: you can speak on it too, but like I feel
- 7:50Speaker 4: like work week and recruitment just creates so much competition
- 7:55Speaker 4: between houses and it like brings out the worst in
- 8:00Speaker 4: each other when you're especially like between each houses, like
- 8:03Speaker 4: you're kind of like gossiping about them. And we were
- 8:05Speaker 4: like we had just gone from getting so close with
- 8:08Speaker 4: girls and other sororities too. Now everyone's gossiping about each
- 8:12Speaker 4: other and what they're doing during work week. And this
- 8:15Speaker 4: was like right at the prime of the TikTok dance era,
- 8:20Speaker 4: and it was like who could go viral one day
- 8:22Speaker 4: or the next over their TikTok dances? And we were
- 8:25Speaker 4: like they were like tokic everyone's dances and it was
- 8:28Speaker 4: just like, now, looking back on it, it's so funny.
- 8:31Speaker 4: But in the time, you're like really competing for the
- 8:34Speaker 4: best girls and trying to like get your house ready
- 8:37Speaker 4: in a week to get the best girls in your sororities,
- 8:39Speaker 4: and it really breaths like some cattiness that was not fun.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I'm so catty and yik yak. At my school would
- 8:47Speaker 2: literally go quol cazzy, I know crazy. It was horrible,
- 8:51Speaker 2: and like the things people were saying about each other.
- 8:53Speaker 2: It was like yeah, and now like we're like postgrad,
- 8:56Speaker 2: we can be like it was literally never that deep,
- 8:59Speaker 2: but in the moment, it feels so like it feels
- 9:01Speaker 2: like life's gonna be over if you don't get this
- 9:03Speaker 2: one P and M. And it's like it's they're gonna
- 9:05Speaker 2: be okay and you're gonna be okay. But like it's
- 9:08Speaker 2: just so intense and like I agree with you as
- 9:10Speaker 2: in the sense of like why are we like shitting
- 9:13Speaker 2: on other people's dances, and like it's just so catty
- 9:16Speaker 2: and mean and it was like so unnecessary. But in
- 9:18Speaker 2: the moment, I remember we had these videos that would
- 9:20Speaker 2: come out they were like Round one videos. I don't
- 9:22Speaker 2: know if your guys to school did this, but like
- 9:24Speaker 2: we didn't have run round one in person. It was
- 9:26Speaker 2: like videos and like it was always like who had
- 9:29Speaker 2: the best Round one video? That was like so important.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I also feel like my sorority we compared to like
- 9:36Speaker 4: other storties that are I hate using this word, but
- 9:39Speaker 4: like tear, we didn't work as hard or.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Just kind of like.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I don't know, just we like didn't have the best
- 9:47Speaker 4: video edit or like some of our stuff was kind
- 9:50Speaker 4: of cheesy and are like and just outdated because like
- 9:53Speaker 4: we had just done with like the year before I
- 9:55Speaker 4: had done versus like other sorties were always innovating and
- 9:58Speaker 4: like getting the best of the best, and then it
- 10:01Speaker 4: became a thing when I, yeah, I guess started when
- 10:04Speaker 4: I was a sophomore, where until you tell me this
- 10:07Speaker 4: was a thing for you, But like sororities were getting
- 10:11Speaker 4: sponsorships for each day of work week, so it'd be
- 10:14Speaker 4: like Ala would come in and teach a yoga class
- 10:17Speaker 4: and everyone would like an exec would all be in
- 10:19Speaker 4: like new Alo sets or like the next day it
- 10:21Speaker 4: would be like Layla's Bagels sponsored it and they got
- 10:25Speaker 4: like Lala's for their work week breakfast, and we were
- 10:29Speaker 4: like guys who was on marketing and nobody like got
- 10:33Speaker 4: our day sponsored we were, and we were like all
- 10:36Speaker 4: the p and m's are.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Gonna see that, like we don't get any sponsorships, and
- 10:39Speaker 2: it was insane, Like.
- 10:42Speaker 4: It just I think social media really brings a different
- 10:45Speaker 4: element of competition into it that like was not a
- 10:49Speaker 4: thing five years ago.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Totally like some of our younger producers on this podcast
- 10:54Speaker 2: and talk about that even more because it's so growing,
- 10:57Speaker 2: the whole sponsorship thing.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Crazy, Yeah, I feel the funny thing is is like
- 11:03Speaker 1: Sabine and I went to the same school, so there
- 11:05Speaker 1: was like definitely always like her sorority, my sorority, and
- 11:08Speaker 1: like two others that like everyone kind of would compare,
- 11:11Speaker 1: Like I know DG does a really good pref, but
- 11:14Speaker 1: I know Kapa has a really good Felo day, and
- 11:16Speaker 1: I know that a Fee does a really good job
- 11:19Speaker 1: at like pairing girls up on like the first day
- 11:22Speaker 1: like so that like they can kind of get Like
- 11:23Speaker 1: it was like Pifi always had like really good songs
- 11:26Speaker 1: and it's like everyone like in my house talked a
- 11:29Speaker 1: lot about like we know that these houses have really
- 11:32Speaker 1: good days, so like we need to amplify it up.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And like there was a lot of stuff with yik
- 11:38Speaker 1: yak this year with us of like kind of saying
- 11:41Speaker 1: like capitains seem like they cared or like they didn't
- 11:45Speaker 1: even seem like they wanted to have us there, like
- 11:47Speaker 1: their energy is so low, and like that was just
- 11:49Speaker 1: so like frustrating for like us and like our recruiting
- 11:54Speaker 1: shairs and like people who like had taught us all
- 11:56Speaker 1: these things like going into work week two of like
- 12:00Speaker 1: and it's just like I don't know, it's a mixture
- 12:01Speaker 1: of like girls obviously being upset if like things they
- 12:06Speaker 1: didn't feel like things went right their way, and then
- 12:08Speaker 1: same way with us of like if we feel like
- 12:10Speaker 1: we had a really good person and like they didn't
- 12:13Speaker 1: want to come back or like it just like it
- 12:15Speaker 1: gets mixed in translation a lot. I feel like with
- 12:17Speaker 1: social media of not really knowing like who liked who,
- 12:22Speaker 1: who wanted war kind of thing, and like that was
- 12:24Speaker 1: always like a really hard thing and like honestly like
- 12:27Speaker 1: we just like try to stay away from it as
- 12:28Speaker 1: much as possible because just not going to get like
- 12:30Speaker 1: roped up into that. But then also with like the
- 12:33Speaker 1: TikTok challenges and like seeing like the work week themes
- 12:38Speaker 1: and like what they did. It was just like exhausting
- 12:41Speaker 1: every day. I remember like going into work week, we
- 12:43Speaker 1: like had it all planned out and then we like
- 12:45Speaker 1: started changing things like literally in the middle of the
- 12:47Speaker 1: week of like themes and like kind of things just
- 12:50Speaker 1: like keep like up to date and yeah, like the
- 12:52Speaker 1: whole like going viral doing all these crazy dances. It's
- 12:55Speaker 1: like getting all the girls who are on your dance
- 12:58Speaker 1: team and your sorority to like perform for like hours
- 13:02Speaker 1: in the courtyard so that we can get like views
- 13:04Speaker 1: and promotions and get like little sponsorship things. Was just
- 13:07Speaker 1: like add such another layer to pressure of when we're
- 13:10Speaker 1: just like genuinely just trying to like learn like these
- 13:12Speaker 1: two minute door chants and everything else. So it does
- 13:15Speaker 1: get It does get crazy with the social media part
- 13:17Speaker 1: for sure.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Going off of what Honestascias said, how important are the
- 13:21Speaker 3: themes of work week? What would you guys say?
- 13:23Speaker 5: I feel like in my experience in the one year
- 13:26Speaker 5: that I did it, the importance of it is that,
- 13:28Speaker 5: like you have an element that's unique. I think they
- 13:31Speaker 5: want to see houses that stand out and have something
- 13:34Speaker 5: that the other houses don't have. And I know this
- 13:36Speaker 5: past year there was definitely situations where our day one
- 13:40Speaker 5: work week theme was another house is like day three,
- 13:42Speaker 5: and then it became a competition of oh, but who
- 13:44Speaker 5: did it better, and so that a level of comparison
- 13:47Speaker 5: also became kind of crazy because both houses would do
- 13:50Speaker 5: it really great in their own way, but then the
- 13:52Speaker 5: p and MS would kind of like look, and I
- 13:54Speaker 5: don't think the p and MS cared as much as
- 13:56Speaker 5: we thought they did. Like when I was going through recruitment,
- 13:59Speaker 5: I didn't get work week, like I didn't like follow
- 14:02Speaker 5: the house's instagrams during that, so I didn't have any
- 14:05Speaker 5: sort of like care in the world about what houses
- 14:07Speaker 5: were better. I really only cared about like the week
- 14:09Speaker 5: of recruitment. But it definitely, like kind of what we've
- 14:12Speaker 5: been saying, it breeds like some weird level of like
- 14:15Speaker 5: hattiness and competitiveness and like what houses do it best?
- 14:18Speaker 5: And I think there was like specifically, I think there
- 14:21Speaker 5: was an instance where like my house had like a
- 14:23Speaker 5: spy day one of the first days, and then another
- 14:27Speaker 5: like one of our quote unquote competitor houses like the
- 14:30Speaker 5: exact same thing, but like did it objectively like way
- 14:32Speaker 5: cooler than we did. And so then it just like
- 14:35Speaker 5: it like really doesn't matter, but it feels like it does.
- 14:38Speaker 5: So I feel like the more important thing about themes
- 14:40Speaker 5: is just like being unique and having something that stands
- 14:42Speaker 5: out specifically that's important to your house. So having a theme,
- 14:46Speaker 5: having themes that match like the personalities of the girls
- 14:48Speaker 5: in the house and like the energy you're trying to
- 14:50Speaker 5: create and the image that you want to create and
- 14:53Speaker 5: not something that you've just like seen trending on Pinterest
- 14:55Speaker 5: or like on TikTok or Instagram.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I think what you said about the like if you
- 14:59Speaker 2: have the same the theme, like that was like the
- 15:02Speaker 2: end of the world. Like with my house, like I
- 15:05Speaker 2: think we had the same We figured out that we
- 15:07Speaker 2: had the same theme like going into the week, like
- 15:10Speaker 2: right before the week started, and it was like chaos,
- 15:13Speaker 2: like how are we going to be better than them?
- 15:14Speaker 2: Like and it's kind of like does it really matter?
- 15:17Speaker 2: But it does. It matters so much that if you
- 15:21Speaker 2: have the same theme, we have to do it so
- 15:22Speaker 2: much better than them. But like, yeah, it's just crazy.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You have to be able to really think of creative
- 15:28Speaker 2: themes that no one else will have because having the
- 15:30Speaker 2: same theme is that bad. I'm curious when you guys
- 15:33Speaker 2: were going through work week, were you like really dressing
- 15:36Speaker 2: to the theme or was it like too bey and
- 15:39Speaker 2: weird to like actually get into the theme slash, were
- 15:42Speaker 2: you trying to be cutesy or are you trying to
- 15:44Speaker 2: be like the one in the animal like blow up outfit?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Like were you how are you doing your work week outfits?
- 15:50Speaker 1: I think the only one for us that was crazy
- 15:52Speaker 1: was like we got to do the whole like Kapa
- 15:54Speaker 1: blue out thing that was like our like most like
- 15:58Speaker 1: unreal like hainous looking one. But then other than that,
- 16:01Speaker 1: it was kind of like somewhere a little bit hard
- 16:03Speaker 1: to like have more fun with. We did Coachella, We
- 16:07Speaker 1: did Y two K like that one had some fun ones.
- 16:10Speaker 1: We did Love Island, and like some people either dressed
- 16:13Speaker 1: up in like the pajamas that they wear and just
- 16:15Speaker 1: like a mic and those like the lazy ones versus
- 16:17Speaker 1: like if some girls like wearing like full bikini kind
- 16:21Speaker 1: of thing. But like another thing for us was like
- 16:23Speaker 1: when we were filming social like tiktoks outside and like
- 16:27Speaker 1: families would be walking by or like there would be
- 16:30Speaker 1: like we had like scavenger hunt people who like their
- 16:33Speaker 1: job was like to come take a photo with us,
- 16:34Speaker 1: like while we were doing these like social videos, and
- 16:36Speaker 1: it was just like what on earth is going on?
- 16:38Speaker 1: And then like you look outside too, and it's like
- 16:41Speaker 1: Pi Fi's right and right in front of us and
- 16:43Speaker 1: they're doing like the same like crazy thing as well.
- 16:45Speaker 2: So like it kind of depends.
- 16:47Speaker 1: We didn't have that many like super fun ones, but
- 16:49Speaker 1: the Kappa Blueout one is always like the most insane
- 16:52Speaker 1: like across like all sororities.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Okay, what does a normal work weekday in the life
- 17:11Speaker 3: look like if you're a chapter remember, and what does
- 17:14Speaker 3: it look like if you're a president or recruitment chair.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Well, good thing, we have a president on this podcast
- 17:20Speaker 2: who can share hers. Because I was not either, but
- 17:23Speaker 2: I was on recruitment team.
- 17:25Speaker 4: I just feel like you cannot schedule a single thing
- 17:29Speaker 4: during recruitment or work week, like you're you're not only
- 17:34Speaker 4: in charge of getting everything ready for yourself, but also
- 17:37Speaker 4: for the entire chapter, and like you are there like
- 17:40Speaker 4: uphold the morale of the chapter and support everyone else
- 17:44Speaker 4: on the recruitment team. So I mean, if you're president,
- 17:48Speaker 4: you are up at probably six am. Getting ready for
- 17:54Speaker 4: work week. It's going to start at eight am, and
- 17:57Speaker 4: you're there going over the schedule for the day and
- 18:01Speaker 4: working across all groups, making sure all of the kinks
- 18:05Speaker 4: with the bump groups are worked out, making sure that
- 18:08Speaker 4: you're researching like all the girls that are coming through recruitment,
- 18:13Speaker 4: making sure you have like everything from the songs memorized
- 18:17Speaker 4: to your speech is memorized. There's like like you know
- 18:21Speaker 4: exactly what where you're going to be and when.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Hevy, did you ever like float? Like that was the
- 18:27Speaker 2: thing in my chapter, Like the president would float and
- 18:30Speaker 2: that was like if you were a P and M
- 18:32Speaker 2: and like the President of Recruitment chair tapped on you,
- 18:34Speaker 2: like you were like getting a bit from that sorty.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like that's that was like the biggest
- 18:41Speaker 4: thing that you do if your recruitment chair president is
- 18:44Speaker 4: you are like floating throughout like during but that's during
- 18:48Speaker 4: like yeah, actual recruitment. So you're and I guess you're
- 18:52Speaker 4: ever a P and M who the President of Recruitment
- 18:55Speaker 4: chair floated on you? Like I feel like even then,
- 18:58Speaker 4: like even when you're going through recruitment, you knew how
- 19:00Speaker 4: special that was just because like even like I don't
- 19:04Speaker 4: know when you're young and like you're you've just finished
- 19:07Speaker 4: like your senior year in high school or however old
- 19:09Speaker 4: you are, Like you see the president who's like standing
- 19:11Speaker 4: at the top of the staircase, and to be able
- 19:15Speaker 4: to like remember how that felt and then like be
- 19:18Speaker 4: the person doing that was pretty funny.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Did you have to like practice it at all during
- 19:22Speaker 2: work week? Like like how did you know who you were?
- 19:24Speaker 2: You just told by their backstage or whatever you guys
- 19:27Speaker 2: call it. I feel like you're told.
- 19:30Speaker 4: You're told through like the re croubn chairs, like locked
- 19:32Speaker 4: into what everyone else is.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Saying, or like your friends.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Or like are the girls who are recruiting are like
- 19:38Speaker 4: oh my gosh, you need to come in and float
- 19:40Speaker 4: on this girl, or you need to talk to this
- 19:42Speaker 4: girl like they I really like her, I really wonder
- 19:44Speaker 4: and you kind of like you take everyone's word for it. Yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 4: Or it was the girls who you was who were
- 19:50Speaker 4: getting like the top score that you could get.
- 19:53Speaker 5: Yeah, we had a similar situation in our sorority, but
- 19:56Speaker 5: it was that and I think Kappa might have done
- 19:57Speaker 5: the same thing. But it was where the president sat
- 19:59Speaker 5: in her room and it was the responsibility of the
- 20:02Speaker 5: girl taking her through the house for the house tour
- 20:05Speaker 5: day to take her to the President's room if she
- 20:07Speaker 5: thought she was like good enough to meet the president.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Wait, that's crazy that happened to me.
- 20:13Speaker 5: And I remember in the moment knowing like, oh my god,
- 20:15Speaker 5: like I've mind you the president is my age because
- 20:18Speaker 5: I'm a junior rushing and the president is a junior.
- 20:21Speaker 5: And I still was like, oh my god, I'm meeting
- 20:23Speaker 5: the president. Like I remember being like so excited about it,
- 20:27Speaker 5: and like we're literally like she's not one of my
- 20:28Speaker 5: really good friends and we're literally just like both we
- 20:31Speaker 5: were the same age at the time. But it's just
- 20:33Speaker 5: funny because it was kind of like it was definitely
- 20:36Speaker 5: something we practiced during work week. I remember like the
- 20:39Speaker 5: whole house tour day was like a really big part
- 20:41Speaker 5: of work week practice and like knowing which time to
- 20:44Speaker 5: switch on to what floor and like what rooms to
- 20:47Speaker 5: take your girls too, Like it was a huge coordinated
- 20:49Speaker 5: like mission. And I remember like the whole the way
- 20:52Speaker 5: the president fit into that was just making sure like
- 20:55Speaker 5: she kind of just was able to like sit in
- 20:56Speaker 5: her room and hang out, and then everyone else had
- 20:58Speaker 5: to like make sure they knew like Okay, if you
- 20:59Speaker 5: like this skilled, take her through. But it was definitely
- 21:01Speaker 5: something that like everyone practiced, like nothing was not practice
- 21:05Speaker 5: during recruitment, and that was like the crazy or during
- 21:07Speaker 5: work week. And I think that was the craziest thing
- 21:09Speaker 5: I realized, going from being recruited to recruiting, how calculated
- 21:13Speaker 5: and orchestrated everything is. Like nothing was just like like random,
- 21:18Speaker 5: like every like the everybody you talked to, every room
- 21:21Speaker 5: you went into, every conversation you had like there was
- 21:23Speaker 5: some level of like orchestration behind it, which is insane.
- 21:27Speaker 1: That's crazy, Yeah, Capita, the same thing for like our
- 21:30Speaker 1: house tours. But so this year we got we apparently
- 21:35Speaker 1: the year prior to when like the year I was rushing,
- 21:38Speaker 1: compared to the year that I was doing work week,
- 21:40Speaker 1: we had gotten in trouble, I guess for a lot
- 21:43Speaker 1: of things. So they placed like a lot of like
- 21:45Speaker 1: really random rules onto us of like instead now it
- 21:49Speaker 1: was this year was everyone had to meet the president.
- 21:51Speaker 1: And I remember on Sisterhood Day when you do the
- 21:54Speaker 1: house tours, it was so calculated to where like they
- 21:58Speaker 1: had us.
- 21:58Speaker 5: All like by like watch to have on our.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Wrists so because it would like start having a line
- 22:03Speaker 1: backed out like to the President's suite for every girl
- 22:07Speaker 1: to like go introduce them to the president. Still make
- 22:10Speaker 1: it back to your bump group in time. Like another
- 22:13Speaker 1: like mix up was like sometimes when like you're in
- 22:16Speaker 1: like the rush of it and you're trying to remember
- 22:17Speaker 1: like these girls' names and still asking, like you end
- 22:19Speaker 1: up getting to the President's suite and you're like, oh
- 22:22Speaker 1: my god, what's her name? Oh my god, what's her name?
- 22:23Speaker 1: And you're like trying to remember and you don't want
- 22:25Speaker 1: to like look at their like name tag. So we
- 22:27Speaker 1: would have to do this thing where like you would
- 22:29Speaker 1: put your hand like on your shoulder and someone would
- 22:32Speaker 1: put their hand on top of yours, and that would
- 22:33Speaker 1: be like our cue to be like I don't remember
- 22:35Speaker 1: this girl's name and I have to introduce her to
- 22:37Speaker 1: the president right now, so I need help, And then
- 22:40Speaker 1: the president would know to be like Hi, I'm Kate,
- 22:42Speaker 1: what's your name or like whatever her name is kind
- 22:45Speaker 1: of thing. So that was that was a mess to
- 22:48Speaker 1: where like before it'd be like, oh, if like you
- 22:50Speaker 1: talked to the president about this like P and M
- 22:52Speaker 1: that you really want introduce to her for us now
- 22:54Speaker 1: it's everyone has to meet her because it just got
- 22:58Speaker 1: so circulated around of like freshman like even like to
- 23:01Speaker 1: the point of like making up rumors of like I
- 23:04Speaker 1: heard that like kap It does this, and I heard
- 23:06Speaker 1: that Aphi does that, and like if that, if that
- 23:08Speaker 1: happens to you, then like that's a guaranteed bit or whatever.
- 23:11Speaker 1: And it's like, oh my god, we can't have like
- 23:13Speaker 1: those kinds of speculations going around, like it needs to
- 23:16Speaker 1: be fair. So then that kind of was like a
- 23:18Speaker 1: big no going into the recruitment, like especially for us
- 23:22Speaker 1: next year as well.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Totally. And I think what you guys brought up about
- 23:25Speaker 2: the house tour is really interesting. Like my s already
- 23:29Speaker 2: did that at my school, but that was like we
- 23:31Speaker 2: thought we were the only ones. Like Margo, I know
- 23:33Speaker 2: you weren't a part of work week, but was there
- 23:35Speaker 2: anything like that at your school, like any sort of
- 23:37Speaker 2: like house tours when you were going through recruitment or No.
- 23:41Speaker 3: There was actually on like the first days, we got
- 23:44Speaker 3: to tour all of the houses before like you decided
- 23:47Speaker 3: and like got dropped from any of them. So that
- 23:49Speaker 3: was kind of cool. But our houses were honestly like
- 23:52Speaker 3: really really small and like always the bigger ones we
- 23:55Speaker 3: were like, oh my gosh, they're so cool and like
- 23:57Speaker 3: for us, like Ako had like one of the best
- 23:59Speaker 3: houses and then Afi had like kind of a good house,
- 24:02Speaker 3: not really which is mine, but it was always so
- 24:05Speaker 3: cool to see because I feel like, if not, you
- 24:06Speaker 3: would never really go in them ever after like recruitment
- 24:09Speaker 3: and like once you're in your storty unless like you
- 24:11Speaker 3: were friends with them moving on. This is kind of interesting,
- 24:29Speaker 3: interesting question that I have for you guys. What happens
- 24:31Speaker 3: if you drink or going go out during work week.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I don't know if this is different for us, but
- 24:37Speaker 1: for us, work week isn't dry. It's recruitment week that's dry.
- 24:43Speaker 1: So it's kind of more so like get the fun
- 24:46Speaker 1: out of your system during work week, and then recruitment
- 24:50Speaker 1: is like if you get caught going out during recruitment,
- 24:53Speaker 1: like your house gets fined, like I don't even know,
- 24:56Speaker 1: you don't even want to, like know the kind of
- 24:57Speaker 1: punishment that you'll face. But for us it was it
- 25:00Speaker 1: was like, okay, recruitments so long and brutal, like go
- 25:04Speaker 1: out now, so that you better not be going out.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I mean, work week is not get it out now
- 25:09Speaker 1: before going into recruitment.
- 25:12Speaker 5: Everyone was hungover every single day of Yeah, that's crazy to.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Me because like no one drank a leg at my school.
- 25:20Speaker 5: But also the thing was you can't really you can't
- 25:22Speaker 5: drink it. Technically you can't drink in the house, and
- 25:24Speaker 5: so all the girls that are living in the house
- 25:26Speaker 5: during work week, like you wouldn't necessarily like be drinking
- 25:30Speaker 5: at the end of the day like in the house.
- 25:31Speaker 5: I feel like for me, it was more like the
- 25:33Speaker 5: juniors and seniors that maybe lived like out of the
- 25:36Speaker 5: house or like speaking from experience as a senior, like
- 25:39Speaker 5: I would go to the house for work week, but
- 25:41Speaker 5: then go back to my like actual senior house and
- 25:43Speaker 5: then I would like hang out with my friends and
- 25:45Speaker 5: then be hungover the next day like it. But there
- 25:47Speaker 5: wasn't actually like drinking or partying within the story house.
- 25:49Speaker 5: It was more like if people went out and like
- 25:51Speaker 5: hung out with their friends outside of it.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Definitely like out my house for sure, but even us
- 25:55Speaker 2: like ours was dry. I definitely remember the rules being
- 25:58Speaker 2: way more intense for recruitment, like your house could be
- 26:01Speaker 2: like done, so if you drink during recruitment, I feel
- 26:02Speaker 2: like work week it was just a rule, but like whatever, anyway,
- 26:07Speaker 2: people girls would like like snap photos of girls out
- 26:10Speaker 2: at the bar, like even during work week, like and
- 26:13Speaker 2: try to get their whole house off, Like if you
- 26:15Speaker 2: wanted to drink, it was like inside your house as
- 26:17Speaker 2: a junior or senior, Like you guys were saying and
- 26:19Speaker 2: you weren't telling a soul, like you could not be
- 26:22Speaker 2: out and about even like a restaurant, Like people would
- 26:24Speaker 2: literally try to get you in trouble for drinking, Like
- 26:26Speaker 2: it was that intense. So our work week was definitely dry,
- 26:30Speaker 2: And to be honest, that's impressive that you guys were
- 26:32Speaker 2: even able to go out and drink after work week
- 26:34Speaker 2: because I was so exhausted every day after ten hours
- 26:38Speaker 2: of talking and singing and clapping that like I was
- 26:40Speaker 2: hitting the pillow and waking up at seven am to
- 26:43Speaker 2: get ready the next day. So honestly, I'm super impressed
- 26:46Speaker 2: that you guys were able to go out every day
- 26:47Speaker 2: of work week and that you were hungover. That's crazy.
- 26:51Speaker 1: An owning that I remember is for some reason, every
- 26:55Speaker 1: year for us, the first football game is always during
- 27:00Speaker 1: the first like week of recruitment, which is always just
- 27:04Speaker 1: such a pain. So like it's kind of like a
- 27:06Speaker 1: known thing that like just the first football game is
- 27:08Speaker 1: super lame because no one's out because none of like
- 27:10Speaker 1: Greek life gets to go out and like drink and
- 27:13Speaker 1: do anything. And being an athlete, like I would have
- 27:17Speaker 1: all my like teammates going out and like I'd be like, yeah, yeah, no,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I can't. Sorry, Like recruitment it's dry, and they would
- 27:23Speaker 1: just have like no idea like why, and like they
- 27:26Speaker 1: just thought it was the stupidest thing ever. But yeah,
- 27:27Speaker 1: for us, it was always recruitment was the very first
- 27:29Speaker 1: football game. And then also that's like led the freshmen
- 27:33Speaker 1: who were gonna be rushing being like super scared of
- 27:35Speaker 1: going out as well and like getting caught at anything
- 27:38Speaker 1: and whatever. And it was always just it's been like
- 27:40Speaker 1: a mess every year with that. It's always a big conflict.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 27:44Speaker 3: See.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I think it also with you guys going to school
- 27:46Speaker 2: in California and we going to school in the South,
- 27:48Speaker 2: and our schools having the difference of like my work
- 27:51Speaker 2: week in recruitment, we're done in two weeks, and I
- 27:53Speaker 2: know that's different for you guys. So I feel like
- 27:55Speaker 2: that's a big player where like I feel like they
- 27:57Speaker 2: can't make everyone like not go drink at football games
- 28:00Speaker 2: and everything for like months like other schools, but like
- 28:02Speaker 2: ours was like the two weeks before school started, so
- 28:05Speaker 2: like they could put as many rules in place as
- 28:07Speaker 2: they wanted to.
- 28:09Speaker 3: What advice do you have for girls about to go
- 28:11Speaker 3: through their first work week?
- 28:13Speaker 2: Like guess just like don't be scared.
- 28:15Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I feel like there's this huge conversation about how nerve
- 28:18Speaker 5: wracking recruitment is and like going through it as a
- 28:22Speaker 5: P and M. And I feel like on the reverse
- 28:23Speaker 5: and once you're in the storty and you feel like
- 28:26Speaker 5: you found your friends and you found your house and
- 28:28Speaker 5: you're super happy, it definitely can feel really stressful to
- 28:32Speaker 5: like learn all the ways that you need to like
- 28:35Speaker 5: do that. On the flip side, like being the recruiter
- 28:39Speaker 5: is definitely a very different experience, and I think just
- 28:42Speaker 5: taking like just being patient with it and like being
- 28:46Speaker 5: excited every single day. And I also think knowing and
- 28:49Speaker 5: being friends with a lot of the girls on the
- 28:51Speaker 5: recruitment chair and like the exect like be willing to
- 28:54Speaker 5: learn and like be respectful during like the meetings where
- 28:57Speaker 5: everyone's like having to listen and learn songs because it
- 29:00Speaker 5: makes it so much harder for everyone if you're going
- 29:03Speaker 5: into it half passing it and not really paying attention
- 29:05Speaker 5: when people are teaching or when people are giving speeches,
- 29:08Speaker 5: Like it is really stressful being on the exact side
- 29:10Speaker 5: of things. So I think going through a work week,
- 29:13Speaker 5: just like know that it's only a couple of days.
- 29:15Speaker 5: It's probably going to feel extremely exhausting, but it really
- 29:18Speaker 5: doesn't last that long, and like it's important to just
- 29:21Speaker 5: like kind of lok in for a couple of days
- 29:23Speaker 5: and like, yeah, it's super fun, it's super like amazing,
- 29:25Speaker 5: but be just like paying attention as much as you can.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like totally what Sabina said of just
- 29:31Speaker 1: like be respectful to the people who are like taking
- 29:34Speaker 1: the time to teach you what to do during it,
- 29:36Speaker 1: Like they plan that out for months throughout the entire summer,
- 29:40Speaker 1: and there's so much that goes into it on their
- 29:42Speaker 1: ends to where like you just need to be a
- 29:44Speaker 1: team player and just like enjoy it. Like the more
- 29:47Speaker 1: that like you have fun with it, the better it
- 29:49Speaker 1: will be and the easier will be to kind of,
- 29:51Speaker 1: I guess, get through. But like if you guys all
- 29:54Speaker 1: just camaraderiate together and make it fun and make it engaging,
- 29:58Speaker 1: Like it's just gonna make rush even that much better.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I feel like whatever you guys put into recruitment will
- 30:03Speaker 1: like really shine through when you guys want to rush,
- 30:05Speaker 1: and then it's like the most rewarding thing on mid
- 30:07Speaker 1: day when like you look at like the new PC
- 30:09Speaker 1: that you guys all just like recruited, and it's like
- 30:11Speaker 1: a great, great experience, like knowing that like you got
- 30:15Speaker 1: to help get those girls into this house and like
- 30:17Speaker 1: that's kind of gonna be the future of the house
- 30:18Speaker 1: as well.
- 30:19Speaker 2: So yeah, just like take it seriously. There's so much
- 30:22Speaker 2: that goes into it.
- 30:23Speaker 1: But like the more that you put in during recruitment,
- 30:25Speaker 1: the better RUSH will be and the like more enjoyable
- 30:27Speaker 1: bid day and your new PC will be as well.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And also like the pms can tell your excitement, like
- 30:34Speaker 1: if they get excited when you're super excited, so like
- 30:37Speaker 1: by like being super on top of it and being
- 30:39Speaker 1: so welcoming and like practicing those little things like it's
- 30:42Speaker 1: for them. It's not about you guys, Like it's to
- 30:45Speaker 1: rush these new p and ms, So like make it
- 30:47Speaker 1: fun and make it engaging, and like they'll be able
- 30:49Speaker 1: to like feel that energy and want to be part
- 30:51Speaker 1: of your house totally.
- 30:53Speaker 2: I like my biggest two pieces advice are first, like
- 30:56Speaker 2: go into it with an open mind about friendships, because
- 30:58Speaker 2: I feel like so many of my friends friends or
- 31:00Speaker 2: like younger girls I've talked to, like we're so sadd
- 31:03Speaker 2: like their friends and who they were freshman year and
- 31:05Speaker 2: like ended up having like getting so many more friends
- 31:08Speaker 2: and like getting to know so many girls in their
- 31:10Speaker 2: own house. So I feel like just really be open
- 31:12Speaker 2: to like maybe going to get coffee with someone new,
- 31:16Speaker 2: or just like really being open to bringing in more friendships.
- 31:19Speaker 2: And number two would be like do not be the complainer.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Those people are the actual worst. Everyone's tired, everyone wants
- 31:25Speaker 2: to go home. Like if you're the one that's like
- 31:27Speaker 2: sitting in the corner complaining the entire time, like you're
- 31:29Speaker 2: literally just bringing down the vibes, Like be the one
- 31:32Speaker 2: who's like playing the music loud on this speaker, like
- 31:35Speaker 2: getting everyone hyped up, Like like everyone on here has
- 31:39Speaker 2: been saying, like it's literally just about what you put
- 31:41Speaker 2: into it, Like you need to be putting in energy
- 31:43Speaker 2: and like you'll get it back, Like if you like
- 31:46Speaker 2: take it seriously and like have a fun time, like
- 31:48Speaker 2: you will like work, we get so fun. Like I
- 31:52Speaker 2: literally said, I did it three years. It was so fun.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I did my senior year with like ten seniors. No
- 31:57Speaker 2: one does a senior year, and we had a blast.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Like literally, we're just like dancing and having so much fun.
- 32:03Speaker 2: My recruitment chair made a fake position on me for
- 32:05Speaker 2: recruitment team so that she could force me to do
- 32:08Speaker 2: work week and it was so fun and even though
- 32:10Speaker 2: I didn't want to do it, I had a blast.
- 32:12Speaker 2: So that would be my advice, like, just go in
- 32:14Speaker 2: with an open mind. That's it for this episode of
