Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_10: Stallion E Search is at the Heritage Place Sale in Oklahoma City this week.
- 0:03SPEAKER_10: So this episode is gonna be one of those boots on the ground types of episodes where you hear the auctioneer in the distance with horsemen giving their perspective of how things are going in the industry.
- 0:13SPEAKER_10: We're excited.
- 0:14SPEAKER_10: It's Quarter Horse Racing Talk Weekly at the Heritage Place Sale.
- 0:18SPEAKER_17: And here's your host, Greg Thompson.
- 0:21SPEAKER_07: And hello again, everyone.
- 0:22SPEAKER_07: I'm Greg Thompson, a stallionesearch.com, another episode coming your way here on Quarter Horse Racing Talk Weekly, the number one podcast in all of Quarter Horse Racing.
- 0:32SPEAKER_07: And I think I have a fairly unique show this week as we are here at Heritage Place, the Yearlings sale, and uh of course I have access to a tremendous amount of horsemen, and I'm going to take the news about the Triple Crown going potentially to Lone Star Park as well as the sale, as well as the Riodoso Hall of Fame moving to the Metroplex, and posing the question to some of the top horsemen in the industry and getting their perspective of what they think about the news or what they think about the potential.
- 1:04SPEAKER_07: I will say that there's a lot of things that are just absolutely unknown, and I'm sure there's a purpose of why they're unknown, if it's not been announced yet.
- 1:12SPEAKER_07: There's clear logistics issues that have to be worked through.
- 1:15SPEAKER_07: And if there are people out there that actually know how this is going to go, or even what the potential of how this is going to go, those people are probably in the middle of these negotiations, which is certainly something not to be put on a podcast to figure these logistics out, as opposed to doing it in private in a boardroom with lawyers, of course, and contracts.
- 1:36SPEAKER_07: But as it pertains to the people that will be participating in the industry, as well as if that potential happens to move to Dallas, I wanted to get their perspective, and I wanted to give it to you, the listener, to let you know what several people in the industry are thinking.
- 1:50SPEAKER_07: And and I will tell you that there's not just absolutely an overwhelming positivity about it.
- 1:56SPEAKER_07: I mean, there are those retractors out there, and I thought it'd be important that I not just spend the whole time of focusing on people that talking positively about the potential of it, of trying to find a few of those.
- 2:10SPEAKER_07: And it's actually harder than you think to get somebody on record of saying something to that effect.
- 2:16SPEAKER_07: But as I've been asked my opinion about it and and received phone calls as well as text messages, and really just a lot of assumptions that can be made at this present period of time of trying to put our big brains to work to see if we could actually figure it out of what their game plan is without actually knowing their game plan.
- 2:36SPEAKER_07: But as it pertains, that's not what this show is focused on.
- 2:40SPEAKER_07: This is focused more on what the horsemen think, as well as the potential of how they're going to feel if this does come to fruition.
- 2:47SPEAKER_07: And we'll be right back after these words, not only to get into that, but we also have a great recap section where we talk about the grade one Millie Vessels, which happened out at Los Alamitas, as well as some of the challenge races and trials that are happening this weekend that'll be in the previous section with me and Yancey Guiman.
- 3:05SPEAKER_07: We'll be right back after these words from our sponsor.
- 3:09SPEAKER_17: Uncle D, the brilliant grade one winning sire, who has a multitude of yearlings going through the sales ring this weekend at Heritage Place, who all come with the chance of the$50,000 Uncle D smart money incentive attached, and they are all by one of the top third crop sires in the country, Uncle D, whose top runner of 2026 is the graded stakes-winning Uncle Redheads, seen here winning the Mr.
- 3:30SPEAKER_17: Master Bug Stakes in April.
- 3:32SPEAKER_17: And no doubt about it, Uncle D produces one of the more attractive yearlings in the entire industry.
- 3:37SPEAKER_17: Standing in Roswell, New Mexico, a prestige equine, the grade one winning son of Corona Cartel, Uncle D.
- 3:45SPEAKER_07: A strong market at the recently concluded Riadosa Select yearling sale with an$800,000 yearling topping the bill, with both gains in both the average and the median, despite offering fewer yearlings than the year before.
- 3:59SPEAKER_07: And it all can be equated to the quality of horses that are being offered at sale being exceptional at the Riadosa Select yearling sale.
- 4:07SPEAKER_07: With the outlook of the sale being moved over to the Lone Star Park for 2027, providing an atmosphere of certainty about the future of quarter horse racing, as the Riadosa Sale is the place to sell your yearling to maximize your profits in the quarter horse racing world.
- 4:23SPEAKER_11: Alright, back to the podcast.
- 4:25SPEAKER_07: Alright, we're back here at Quarter Horse Racing Talk, ready to jump into our featured segment where I'm walking around the grounds of Heritage Place through the aisles looking at some of these yearlings, and I'm running across some of the top horsemen in the industry and asking them their take on some of the news that has actually come out recently about the possibility or the most likelihood of the All-American Futurity, as well as the other Triple Crown races, moving to the east at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas for the racing season of 2027.
- 5:00SPEAKER_07: And obviously there's a lot of logistics issues and as well as a lot of moving things around if it were to happen.
- 5:08SPEAKER_07: But as it pertains to kind of getting the sentiment of the horsemen, I was able to run across some of the newsmakers in the industry and kind of get their take, as well as their desire to participate as the potential of the Triple Crown series moves east to Lone Star Park in 2027 if everything goes as planned.
- 5:28SPEAKER_07: As my first folks that step up and I put the microphone in front of is both of them are former jockeys, but both are very much involved in the racing industry.
- 5:37SPEAKER_07: Former rider Jeff Williams, who is a steward and a racing official up in the state of Oklahoma.
- 5:43SPEAKER_07: But as anybody who knows Jeff knows that he keeps his finger on the pulse of quarter horse racing and keeps abreast of a lot of things going on in the industry, and also AQHA Hall of Fame jockey G.R.
- 5:54SPEAKER_07: Carter, who's also the chairman of the racing committee for the AQHA.
- 5:59SPEAKER_07: And both of them are very well versed on things going on in the industry and very much involved.
- 6:04SPEAKER_07: And I was able to kind of get their take on what they were to think of the news about the Triple Crown moving to Lone Star in 27.
- 6:12SPEAKER_07: Alright, here with uh racing official from Oklahoma, Jeff Williams, as well as Hall of Fame Jockey G.R.
- 6:18SPEAKER_07: Carter.
- 6:18SPEAKER_07: I'll start with you, Jeff.
- 6:20SPEAKER_07: As it pertains to everything moving up from the mountain over to Dallas, what is your thoughts on 2027?
- 6:28SPEAKER_06: Well, I think it'll be a positive move.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: You know, nobody wanted to see Riadosa go down like it did.
- 6:33SPEAKER_06: That was uh there was so much history there.
- 6:36SPEAKER_06: People had homes there, just they they centered their their entire summer around Redosa.
- 6:42SPEAKER_06: But there's so many people in this game that enjoy going to the races, having a meal, being catered to, and they miss the jockey club, they miss the turf club, they miss the hospital in Redoso.
- 6:57SPEAKER_06: And and not that Albuquerque didn't try, they just didn't have the infrastructure and the facilities to do that, and Low Star does.
- 7:03SPEAKER_06: So I think there'll be a positive response from everybody and the people and the owners and trainers and like will be happy to be there.
- 7:10SPEAKER_07: As well as the Hall of Fame also making its way.
- 7:13SPEAKER_07: You're uh uh a part of the committee there, GR, of of being in the uh Riadosa Racehorse Hall of Fame and for it actually having a home uh and continuing on.
- 7:23SPEAKER_07: That's a big big part of the news as well.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: You know, if the the worst part that could have happened is it just sat down in the old facility that they ended up not using for.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: You know, you you it's impossible to replace Riadosa.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: You know, Lone Star will be all the things that Jeff said will be will be a really good positive, it'll be real good atmosphere.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: They got a big wide open racetrack, and and I and I I think it'll do great at Lone Star.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: And I'm real I am tickled that they took the Hall of Fame too, because otherwise that there's so much history there.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: You know, Riedosa Downs is the history of our of our game, our sport.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: And to see that Hall of Fame not be where people can look at it and all would be pretty depressing.
- 8:09SPEAKER_07: You guys have seen a lot of history happen there at Riadoso, seen a lot of history, as well as you knew of a bunch of people that have gone through the history of quarter horse racing.
- 8:19SPEAKER_07: I've I posed this to Walt Wiggins about there being this maybe be one of the most transitional periods of time of ever in quarter horse racing history where we're having such change or possibility of change.
- 8:32SPEAKER_07: We haven't had it yet, possibility of change.
- 8:34SPEAKER_07: He points out, you know, we had some significant events like when Penn Square and all those banks went under and everybody started liquidating and selling, and and before Riyonoso got their uh slot machines, New Mexico racing was in huge peril and potentially not actually existing before they got slots in the 90s and all.
- 8:54SPEAKER_07: But I mean, this is clearly one of those transitional periods.
- 8:57SPEAKER_07: I mean, can you think of anything that even parallels that Jeff?
- 9:01SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, I can remember in the late 80s, early 90s, the participation in Mena Dosa was dire.
- 9:07SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I won the All-American Gold Cup in 1993, I believe, for Fred Danley, and the total purse was$28,000.
- 9:16SPEAKER_06: I mean, there was just there was just no no entries.
- 9:20SPEAKER_06: And and so that part of the industry is good.
- 9:23SPEAKER_06: You know, as far as is is changes that I thought made a big big difference.
- 9:28SPEAKER_06: Uh I was there when we got the two races, when we split the racetrack in Minnedoso, and I think I thought that changed racing quite a bit.
- 9:35SPEAKER_06: Um, I was also came to Texas and in New Mexico right at the tail end of the mid-80s hole crash and saw people that were given a million dollars for all American hopefuls selling out.
- 9:48SPEAKER_06: So, you know, um racing survived worse things than Redosos, floods and fires.
- 9:57SPEAKER_06: And and you know, I think from the way these hosts are selling, it's gonna it's gonna keep keep going just fine.
- 10:03SPEAKER_07: Well, and and going on on that with UGR, I mean, like 2027 and 2028, we're gonna see the shift of the all-American going somewhere else.
- 10:13SPEAKER_07: The I mean, we got the Fuego futurities uh coming into play, this concept, this new breeding incentive concept, and all it's just you talk about this transitional period as a parallels to some of the things you've seen in the past.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: You know, I I I always remember, you know, every time everybody when they first really start having success, they feel like this is the good times.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: And since then, I see a lot of I've I've seen a lot of different changes over the years, and I and I and I remember having to tell myself, hey, nothing stays the same.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Everything changes eventually, and you just and you gotta make the best of it, live with it, and and and adjust your path to to have success with the changes.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: You know, it's inevitable things are going to change, and it it's and it's very unfortunate that we had this type of change because you you there's no way you can replace the atmosphere, just the feeling, the weather, just everything about Riadosis is history of Cold War's racing.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: And hopefully we can keep keep that.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: Well, we we will.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, it the All-American, it's gonna, it's good, it's the marquee race, and it's gonna be the marquee race.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Whoever's managing it is it's just it's got that mystique.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: It's the All-American is truly the race that makes makes you famous.
- 11:28SPEAKER_07: You know, you pointed something out very I didn't really think about GR is like the resilience of portal horse racing.
- 11:34SPEAKER_07: Think about all the racetracks that we used to have in the sport, and we didn't have Lone Star Park, we didn't even have Texas racing in Paramutual until 86.
- 11:42SPEAKER_07: And here we are, you know, we're looking at the verge of 27 that Lone Star Park becomes the pinnacle of Port of Horse Racing or the epicenter.
- 11:50SPEAKER_07: You know, we're gonna have a meet where we're looking at the Triple Crown, we're looking at the Texas Classic, and we're looking at the AQHA challenge, as well as the Rio Dosa sale, if it comes there, all in one single meet or all in one single place.
- 12:02SPEAKER_07: So literally overnight, or uh maybe like one turning the page of history one year later, we're looking at Lone Star Park being the epicenter.
- 12:12SPEAKER_07: So thank you guys for sharing your opinion.
- 12:15SPEAKER_06: We did.
- 12:15SPEAKER_06: Thanks for having me.
- 12:17SPEAKER_07: Now is also able to run into two all-American Futurity winning trainers that participate in the Triple Crown, as well as they're very prominent in the industry, and that's trainer Mike Joyner as well as trainer Blaine Wood.
- 12:31SPEAKER_07: As both of them, as mentioned, have owners that pay in a lot of nominations to these triple crown events, as well as multiple other futurities throughout the industry.
- 12:39SPEAKER_07: As I asked them their take about the thought of this series moving over to Lone Star and maybe what that would look like if perhaps Lone Star does become the epicenter of quarter horse racing starting in 27.
- 12:52SPEAKER_07: Here with All American Fraturity winning trainer Mike Joyner.
- 12:56SPEAKER_07: Mike, talk about the transition of the All-American Futurity and the Triple Crown moving away from Albuquerque over to Lone Star Park.
- 13:04SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, uh I think it could be a great deal for the industry.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: So hopefully things will work out, but you know, nothing said yet.
- 13:14SPEAKER_04: So we'll just have to wait and see how all this turns out.
- 13:17SPEAKER_07: Well, clearly more than likely has to go somewhere.
- 13:21SPEAKER_07: You know, and obviously if it continues to go on at Albuquerque, I mean, as opposed to Albuquerque versus Lone Star, would you think that Lone Star is a better fit?
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: Well, I do because they got more styles and a lot better facility.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: So uh as far as the foreign area goes.
- 13:37SPEAKER_04: So I'm um I think it'd probably be a better fit.
- 13:40SPEAKER_04: Hey, I'm here with Blaine Wood.
- 13:42SPEAKER_07: Blaine, getting horseman's point of view about Triple Crown moving over to Lone Star Park in Texas, obviously, you know, I know I know without even asking, the tradition that's there, if if if you had your way, you would leave everything alone and leave it at Rios announce.
- 14:00SPEAKER_07: But of course, it does the more that we get more mileage on this, it doesn't seem like that's even a possibility.
- 14:07SPEAKER_07: With the move to Lone Star Park, as it pertains to the industry and as it pertains to Yellow's operation, of course, you guys are right down the road from Lone Star Park, so it certainly is the proximity is it increases there.
- 14:19SPEAKER_07: But what is your take on everything kind of moving, including the sale, including everything that's Lone Star is about to theoretically become the epicenter of Fort Horse Racing next year?
- 14:30SPEAKER_05: Well, I think that uh making the announcement and letting the the uh the horsemen know where we're gonna be next year was a great asset.
- 14:39SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, personally, you know, our operation is not far from Lone Star Park, so obviously I'm gonna like it.
- 14:46SPEAKER_05: Uh but I think it's a great facility.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: You know, it's centrally located.
- 14:51SPEAKER_05: Uh I at this point in juncture, I think it's a it's a great move.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: Uh obviously, if we can't be at Riedosa, and uh I think the track can handle the crowd, I think they can handle the sale, we can all have it at one spot, and I think that's a real advantage.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: You know, I'm an old timer, I guess, but I still think at some point in juncture that it could be back at Riadosa.
- 15:17SPEAKER_05: That's just my gut feeling.
- 15:18SPEAKER_05: Uh, I have no facts to back that up.
- 15:22SPEAKER_05: That's just my gut feeling.
- 15:24SPEAKER_05: But uh I think moving everything to Lone Star, like I say, it's a great facility.
- 15:29SPEAKER_05: It's a great track.
- 15:31SPEAKER_05: We have the sale uh facility there.
- 15:34SPEAKER_05: And I think it's you know, it can it can house a lot of horses, it can handle the big crowd, if you will.
- 15:40SPEAKER_05: And uh I think it's the next best thing to not been at Rio Delso.
- 15:45SPEAKER_06: January 18th, bro.
- 15:46SPEAKER_17: And we'll be right back after these words from our sponsor.
- 15:49SPEAKER_17: Introducing the incomparable stallion roster at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma, starting with the grade one winning son of Corona Cartel, Big Lou, a multiple stakes producing sire in his own right, the legend himself, Corona Cartel, accounting for 31 Grade 1 winners and four millionaires.
- 16:08SPEAKER_17: The grade one Ruidosso Futurity winner, Cyber Monday, who is the number one writing second crop sire in the country in 2026, the all-time writing sire of money earners in the sport, the legendary first down Dash, the sire of 89 Grade 1 winners, the AQHA champion son of Kiss My Hawks, Kempton, winner of the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity, two-time AQHA champion Kiss My Hawks, sire of seven Grade One winners from only eight crops to race.
- 16:37SPEAKER_17: The five-time champion sire, PYC Paint Your Wagon, sire of earners of over 44 million on the racetrack.
- 16:44SPEAKER_17: The AQHA champion and grade one winning Unrelentless, who had a dazzling first year in the breeding shed at Lazy.
- 16:51SPEAKER_17: And the sire of 14 Grade 1 winners, Valiant Hero, the sire of three champions and five millionaires, and new for the upcoming 2027 breeding season?
- 17:00SPEAKER_17: The leading sire in the nation of money earners, Flying Cowboy 123, the sire of 10 qualifiers into the 2026 All-American Futurity, Derby, and Oaks, all standing at Lazy E in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
- 17:16SPEAKER_17: Want to get the most out of your horse?
- 17:18SPEAKER_17: It starts with what you put in the feed bucket.
- 17:20SPEAKER_17: Whether it's a yearling headed to the sales ring, a mare and foal in the pasture, or a futurity prospect preparing for a big win.
- 17:28SPEAKER_17: Smart horsemen know nutrition makes the difference.
- 17:31SPEAKER_17: That's why you feed Purina.
- 17:33SPEAKER_17: Smart horsemen know.
- 17:34SPEAKER_17: Visit Purinamills.com forward slash horsefeed to view all of the Purina horse products.
- 17:40SPEAKER_17: You really will see the difference.
- 17:43SPEAKER_17: If you are in the market for a yearling this summer, or perhaps looking at the way consigners handle their offerings, do yourself a favor.
- 17:50SPEAKER_17: Go over and take a look at the world-class operation of Royal Vista Ranch at the Yearling Sales.
- 17:55SPEAKER_17: Not only offering top shelf level yearlings, but also doing it with the class and elegance that most others can only hope to one day achieve.
- 18:03SPEAKER_17: Royal Vista has it.
- 18:04SPEAKER_17: Check them out.
- 18:05SPEAKER_07: And also check out their Blockbuster Stallion roster, which includes a son of Apolitical Jess, Apolitical J Street, the legendary sire himself and the leader of the industry, Apolitical Jess, the AQHA champion sire, FD Going Grand, the royally bred Heart of the Cartel, the Grade 1 winning Eye on the Card, and completing his first year at stud in 2026, the Grade 1 winning Just Dulce, all standing at Royal Vista Ranch in Wayne, Oklahoma.
- 18:33SPEAKER_09: Alright, back to the show.
- 18:35SPEAKER_07: Alright, we're back.
- 18:36SPEAKER_07: And one of the things that kind of popped into my mind when I heard about the news of the possibility of the Triple Crown moving east to Lone Star Park, is that Louisiana, for the most part, even though we had an owner that won the All-American Faturity this year, a co-owner, that was from the state of Louisiana in Buddy Deville.
- 18:56SPEAKER_07: But with the proximity of the Riadosa sale, if it's potential to be moving into the Metroplex of Dallas and Fort Worth, as well as the Triple Crown series being at Lone Star Park, that the participation level from those folks over in Louisiana, which is pretty much down at a very bare minimum at present because the proximity all the way over to Riadosa from those folks in Louisiana that are very heavily state bred oriented with all the futurities that they have in the state of Louisiana focused on state breds, but the absolute potential of a market opening up and a desire from those Louisiana horsemen to start participating in the Triple Crown series, now that it is not an 11 and a half hour drive or more from their home base in Louisiana.
- 19:43SPEAKER_07: I was able to run across former AQHA world champion trainer Kenny Roberts to get his take on the possibility of this becoming a reality at Lone Star Park for 27.
- 19:54SPEAKER_07: I'm here with former AQHA world champion trainer Kenny Roberts.
- 19:57SPEAKER_07: Kenny predominantly running in the state of Louisiana with the news about going into the uh Triple Crown over into the state of Texas at Lone Star with the potential of moving all of that.
- 20:11SPEAKER_07: How do you feel about the Louisiana horsemen since they've kind of I would it's most of the Louisiana horsemen don't really pay a whole lot of attention to the Triple Crown Trail because it's just so far removed going all the way to Riadosa or Albuquerque, but now that it's just really kind of right down the road at Lone Star Park, what do you think it'll be a little bit more attention paid by you, Louisiana horsemen?
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm pretty sure.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: Um I have homos that's coming to me and um actually if I would go uh to Longestone if they would uh bring everything then uh hey I've been a lot of women in my time, but I've been women all American, and that's a goal I like to do, you know.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: All American Derby, all American Fraternity Double would be great, huh?
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: That'd be nice, be real nice.
- 21:00SPEAKER_07: But you would definitely see also the sale uh of moving over closer to over to you guys in Louisiana because when they have the sale over Redosa, a few of you guys come over from Louisiana, but I wouldn't say a large group of you, but now since it'll be more centrally located, say in Lone Star Park or over in the Dallas area, if that is the plan and if that does come to fruition, would you see more attention being paid to even that sale by some of the Louisiana horsemen?
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: I think we'll see a lot of Louisiana horsemen head that way.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: You know, uh if we have a chance where we can compete, because I think we have good trainers right there in the state of Louisiana, so you know, I think the joint of them uh with the owners, I think they'll come in and try to compete with the horsemen that's in Texas and New Mexico and California, you know, Oklahoma.
- 21:57SPEAKER_07: Next up, I ran into container.
- 22:00SPEAKER_07: That would be very involved moving forward from the state of Louisiana in the Riadosa sale, as he is already involved, even though it's literally 14 to 15 hours in a van ride from Bro Bridge, Louisiana, and that's consigner and breeder, as well as stallim manager Ryan Robichot, about his take of the possibility of the influx of interest from Louisiana horsemen now that the Triple Crown series is most likely headed over to Lone Star Park in 27.
- 22:28SPEAKER_07: As it pertains to being a breeder in the state of Louisiana, most of your horsemen over there in Louisiana don't pay a whole lot of attention to the Triple Crown.
- 22:36SPEAKER_07: I mean, you have a very small amount of contingent of Louisiana folks.
- 22:39SPEAKER_07: You do have a few, but you don't have a tri a big conglomerate of Louisiana horsemen going over, going to the Redosa sale, or going even participating in the Triple Crown, running horses in the in the trial, unless one really can step up and run.
- 22:53SPEAKER_07: Now that it's going to be way closer in proximity, uh obviously the the horsemen in Louisiana will continue to participate in the Louisiana bread program, but possibly bleed over, more bleed over into the triple crown.
- 23:07SPEAKER_15: I mean, that's one of the good things uh that I see in this deal that it benefit us.
- 23:12SPEAKER_15: Like we could be trained at Evangeline and haul in.
- 23:14SPEAKER_15: It's only six hours Solon Star.
- 23:16SPEAKER_15: You know, when it's been in Rio Dosa, you'd have to go there a month and get ready, prepare at the altitude and everything.
- 23:22SPEAKER_15: So I could see a lot more Louisiana breads or open breads that we have training with Louisiana bread trainers, making that wave, say, hey, make the payment, make it all American if I have that horse.
- 23:33SPEAKER_15: It's not like it's I gotta change trainers or anything in the middle of the season and just drive six hours and run that weekend in the trials.
- 23:39SPEAKER_15: That's one of the good things I see about this deal.
- 23:42SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 23:42SPEAKER_15: But again, I I I wish we still had Riedosa.
- 23:45SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 23:46SPEAKER_15: Uh it's part of our history.
- 23:47SPEAKER_15: We look every forward to every summer ahead out there.
- 23:50SPEAKER_15: So, like, you know, my first thought is Riedosa.
- 23:53SPEAKER_15: But if you had to ask me if that was a good thing, that's probably the one of the good things about it.
- 23:57SPEAKER_15: Moving it helps us being so close to home.
- 24:00SPEAKER_07: Now, as mentioned in the intro, that not everybody has just been glowing about the news.
- 24:06SPEAKER_07: Uh, there is a lot of retractors, as well as people that are doubting the potential of it actually coming to fruition for multiple reasons.
- 24:13SPEAKER_07: And I've heard several of those instances, and I wouldn't say completely they're totally off base, as Lone Star Park already has two very solid maturities that are it throughout the entire quarter horse racing season, and it has been that way for well over a decade.
- 24:30SPEAKER_07: And the thought that somehow these three massive grade one events moving over to Lone Star Park of the logistics is a clear and easy target of those naysayers or those people that are doubting the possibility that this is going to go as smooth as we're all hoping in the quarter horse racing industry if this actually does come to fruition.
- 24:49SPEAKER_07: And one of those I did run into, and and he was gracious enough to get on and and give me his opinion about things, and that's Kiss My Hawks owner, Tyler Graham, who is also involved in Texas racing.
- 25:00SPEAKER_07: He's a Texas resident, and obviously he would see the benefit of the Triple Crown series coming, but he sees a lot what a lot of other folks, including myself, sees as a lot of things that still have to be resolved before this actually comes to a valid possibility for the racing seasons coming forth.
- 25:17SPEAKER_07: Here with reader Tyler Graham, Tyler just got a quick question.
- 25:21SPEAKER_06: Uh I've gotten a lot of perspective of maybe this will actually reintroduce the triple crown to a lot of the horsemen in Louisiana that really don't pay attention at all to Rito, so as well as don't even come really to the sale other than the Louisiana sale, that maybe this opens up because of the proximity of Old Star Park being so close, but as it pertains to a Texan horseman like yourself, what does it mean to Texas to maybe become the epicenter or the focus of court horse racing for the year 2027 and maybe even for the foreseeable future?
- 25:52SPEAKER_12: Uh well my opinion is you said a lot.
- 25:54SPEAKER_12: It's a maybe.
- 25:56SPEAKER_12: Um I think that it could potentially be a great impact to Texas, but there's a lot of logistics to work out before the races removed from race day scheduling and things of that nature, timing.
- 26:08SPEAKER_12: Um so I you know, I think potentially bringing the triple crown to Texas could be a great impact, but I think right now that to be honest with you, parts way before the horse.
- 26:19SPEAKER_12: I just think right now we're still in a logistically moving as a lone star park and when we would run the races and how that would fit into our schedule that we have now that I think is really good because there's a lot of questions to be answered.
- 26:33SPEAKER_12: However, if we can get those logistics and all those things work out, is the lone star parking lesson.
- 26:40SPEAKER_12: I don't know about that.
- 26:41SPEAKER_12: Um I think potentially I don't think um I personally don't think running the triple crown races in the fall is the best thing.
- 26:53SPEAKER_12: Which I don't know if a lot of people care about that or not, I do.
- 26:56SPEAKER_12: Um I think the races have always been run in the summer.
- 26:59SPEAKER_12: I think they've more specifically been run around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day.
- 27:04SPEAKER_12: I think that means a lot to a lot of people.
- 27:06SPEAKER_12: Um so I think just moving the races to Texas and fitting them in at any time of year is not just a given that that's good for our business.
- 27:17SPEAKER_07: All right, we'll be right back after these words from our sponsor.
- 27:23SPEAKER_07: Introducing the talented stallion roster at RoboShow Ranch in Bro Bridge, Louisiana.
- 27:29SPEAKER_07: He's Visa, and he's the son of Corona Cartel who lit the board 10 out of 11 career starts while earning$450,000 on the track.
- 27:38SPEAKER_07: And then there's the outstanding sire Tempting Dash, who's an AQHA champion sire in the reason for 21 black type graded stakes winners.
- 27:46SPEAKER_07: Also standing is the leading multimillionaire sire KVN Corona.
- 27:51SPEAKER_07: A grade one winner is a runner who sired multiple grade one winners, including Beautiful, the winner of the 2026 Grade 1 Los Alamitas Oaks.
- 28:00SPEAKER_07: And then there's the sire Goldheart Eagle V.
- 28:03SPEAKER_07: The Grade 1 All-American Derby winning son of one famous eagle who sired such standout runners as Gold Gun Z winner of the Grade 2 Laddie Futurity in Louisiana.
- 28:14SPEAKER_07: Also standing at Roboshow Ranch is the brilliant sire A Political Blood, a Grade 1 All-American Derby-winning millionaire who sired an AQHA champion runner himself, as well as a total of six Grade 1 winners to date.
- 28:29SPEAKER_07: All these outstanding sires standing at Roboshow Ranch Incorporated in Bro Bridge, Louisiana.
- 28:37SPEAKER_10: We are four weeks away from the AQHA Challenge Championships at the Downs at Albuquerque.
- 28:43SPEAKER_10: Yes, four weeks.
- 28:45SPEAKER_10: Have you made your plans yet?
- 28:46SPEAKER_10: Here's your reminder: go on to AQHA.com forward slash racing, and you'll find the challenge section with all the information you'll need about that championship weekend at Albuquerque.
- 28:55SPEAKER_16: Hey, quarter horse racing world.
- 28:57SPEAKER_16: We are right here at Heritage Place in Oklahoma City for the four-day yearling sale.
- 29:03SPEAKER_16: As you are hearing this podcast with multiple days left to go.
- 29:07SPEAKER_17: So if you're in the market, come to Heritage Place and get in the action at Heritage Place, the place where champions are sold.
- 29:14SPEAKER_07: Alright, we're back here looking into the preview section here this week on Quarter Horse Racing Talk Weekly.
- 29:20SPEAKER_07: And we'll head back out to Albuquerque to take a look at the AQHA Distance Challenge Stakes, a grade two event.
- 29:27SPEAKER_07: This, of course, is a win and you're in in the AQHA challenge, which would be later in October, right back in Albuquerque in the finals.
- 29:35SPEAKER_07: And Yancey looks like we have a real standout here in this field.
- 29:40SPEAKER_07: It's two to one on the morning line, handing out Candy.
- 29:43SPEAKER_07: Draws favorable right in the middle there.
- 29:45SPEAKER_07: Not necessarily the greatest post position, but not the worst.
- 29:48SPEAKER_07: It certainly is not the worst.
- 29:50SPEAKER_07: But uh this is a talented runner out of the Paul Sadio Barn.
- 29:54SPEAKER_13: Yeah, Greg, uh this horse he had a stellar campaign at Remington this year.
- 29:59SPEAKER_13: He was first in the Paul's Valley stake, which is a grade two.
- 30:03SPEAKER_13: He was first already in the distance challenge at Remington, so he's already qualified to the finals of the big one.
- 30:10SPEAKER_13: But last time out he took third in an allowance race at Albuquerque.
- 30:14SPEAKER_13: So I think that's part of the reason why they went back in this one, maybe to sharpen him up a little bit better for the challenge championship.
- 30:21SPEAKER_07: As he is the defending champion in this race coming up in October, when last year a Stellarfield went around the hook there in Albuquerque, and this horse deservingly the two to one favorite, but they have a five to two shot on the outside that's very interesting as well, right, Ants?
- 30:38SPEAKER_13: Yeah, number six, freight trains and monsters.
- 30:41SPEAKER_13: This horse is out of the Donham MacArthur barn.
- 30:44SPEAKER_13: He has won two nice allowances at Albuquerque this year.
- 30:48SPEAKER_13: And then his last time out, he was first in the same race as Handing Out Candy.
- 30:53SPEAKER_13: Handing Out Candy took third in that race, so he looks like he's kind of coming in his own and right at the end of the year, so he might be a tough competitor on the outside for the four.
- 31:05SPEAKER_07: All right, and we'll stay in Albuquerque and talk about the two-year-olds in the restricted grade one, the Mexico Bred Futurity Trials coming up.
- 31:13SPEAKER_07: And of course, this is the one that last year was worth well over a million dollars, and it's slated to be well over a million dollars this year as well.
- 31:21SPEAKER_13: Yeah, and there's a lot of really nice horses going into these trials, Greg, but we'll keep it to the top what I think is the top three going into the race.
- 31:30SPEAKER_13: Never know how they run on trial day, but in race three, baby daddy cartel is in that race.
- 31:37SPEAKER_13: This is your Mountaintop Fraternity winner.
- 31:40SPEAKER_13: He also ran second in the Zia fraternity.
- 31:43SPEAKER_13: And then earlier in the year at Sunlin, he was first in the in the New Mexico Spring Fling.
- 31:48SPEAKER_13: Um it's a super nice horse out of the Omar Vargas barn.
- 31:52SPEAKER_13: He had the fastest time going into the Zia as well.
- 31:55SPEAKER_13: And the Mountaintop Fraternity, he was the fastest qualifier in both of those, ended up second in the Zia, but he's been one of the top New Mexico breds all year.
- 32:04SPEAKER_13: And then in race five, number six, this will be Heston.
- 32:08SPEAKER_13: This is also out of the Omar Vargas barn.
- 32:11SPEAKER_13: Uh this time Jose Enrique Ortiz will be in the irons.
- 32:14SPEAKER_13: This horse has five starts, four wins.
- 32:16SPEAKER_13: This is your Zia Fraturity winner.
- 32:18SPEAKER_13: He also ran third in the mountaintop juvenile, and he won his trial to the All-American Fraturity.
- 32:25SPEAKER_13: Didn't wasn't fast enough to qualify, but he did win his trial, and he is your grade one Zia Fraternity winner.
- 32:30SPEAKER_13: And then in race 11, number four, Bridger, might as well say this could be the Omar Vargas day, because this horse also comes out of the Omar Vargas barn.
- 32:41SPEAKER_13: But this horse was first in the New Mexico Spring Fraternity earlier this year, and he also ran fourth in the mountaintop.
- 32:48SPEAKER_13: He has four starts, three wins on the year.
- 32:50SPEAKER_13: And so those are kind of the top three that I see going into it.
- 32:53SPEAKER_13: But there's a lot of super nice horses that I did not talk about.
- 32:57SPEAKER_07: All right, and that moves us over to Texas at Lone Star Park where the Dash for Cash Futurity and Derby trials are this weekend, and several standout runners in the Dash for Cash Futurity as well.
- 33:08SPEAKER_13: Yeah, several super nice horses going into the Dash for Cash trial as well.
- 33:12SPEAKER_13: But I want to focus on trial number three.
- 33:15SPEAKER_13: Uh this is a super, super tough trial.
- 33:18SPEAKER_13: There's three horses in there that I think could qualify for this race.
- 33:22SPEAKER_13: And we'll start with number four, um natural flying cowboy.
- 33:28SPEAKER_13: This is out of Oshgar Nunzbarn with Oliver Martinez in the Irons.
- 33:32SPEAKER_13: Um the big thing I put down on him, he's a two-time fraternity qualifier, but this horse runs second in the TQ HRA Sales Fraternity.
- 33:40SPEAKER_13: And we all know by now who won that fraternity, Cowboys Flying.
- 33:43SPEAKER_13: And that fraternity was a loaded field.
- 33:46SPEAKER_13: It had a lot of super nice runners in it.
- 33:48SPEAKER_13: So for this horse to run second in that race, I think he'll be really tough.
- 33:52SPEAKER_13: And then also in that race, number six, a political cowboy.
- 33:57SPEAKER_13: This is Nestor Duran will be riding this horse, and he's already made the finals of three fraternities.
- 34:03SPEAKER_13: Uh he was second in the Texas Breeders, uh, qualified to the Louisiana Downs fraternity.
- 34:09SPEAKER_13: And then he was also another finalist in the TQHA Cell fraternity.
- 34:14SPEAKER_13: And then another top runner in that race will be the nine horse, kiss me in a flash.
- 34:19SPEAKER_13: This horse comes out of the barn of cash read.
- 34:23SPEAKER_13: Juan Palito will be riding.
- 34:24SPEAKER_13: Uh, this is your own Oklahoma fraternity winner.
- 34:27SPEAKER_13: He's only had two starts on the year, just ran in the trials and the finals of that race in Oklahoma.
- 34:33SPEAKER_13: But if he runs anything like that, I think he'll be a super tough horse to beat, and he's super fresh.
- 34:39SPEAKER_07: And you're mentioning and there's another key race, and that skips over to race eight, the trial race eight for the Dasher Cass Fraturity.
- 34:46SPEAKER_13: Yeah, number five in that race is a political gold digger.
- 34:50SPEAKER_13: This horse comes out of the Wayland Milton barn.
- 34:54SPEAKER_13: It's a perfect three for three going into these trials, and it was a winner of the Remington Park Fraturity earlier this year.
- 35:01SPEAKER_13: This is another one that should be super fresh in the trials.
- 35:04SPEAKER_13: It hasn't ran since the finals of the Remington Park.
- 35:08SPEAKER_13: But I remember the finals of that race, and a political goal digger looked like up to that point that he was one of the best two-year-olds running this year.
- 35:16SPEAKER_13: It'll all just depend if he's brings that type of performance into these trials.
- 35:21SPEAKER_07: Lot of great racing this weekend with the trials not only there in Albuquerque, but also in at Lone Star Park.
- 35:27SPEAKER_07: But of course, we got we got the distance challenge stakes, a win and year in.
- 35:31SPEAKER_07: Already have one horse that's already made the finals.
- 35:34SPEAKER_07: That's is the favor going into there.
- 35:36SPEAKER_07: So lots to look at, and we'll be talking about it next week here on the recap section.
- 35:40SPEAKER_07: And we'll be right back after these words after our sponsor.

- 36:35SPEAKER_09: Alright, back to the show.
- 36:37SPEAKER_07: Alright, we're back, ready to jump into the recap section.
- 36:40SPEAKER_07: A lot of great stakes races this past weekend.
- 36:43SPEAKER_07: With the highlight, of course, being the Grade 1 Mildred and Vessels Memorial Handicap out at Los Alamitos, a$100,000 event for three-year-old and up Phillies and Mares going 400 yards.
- 36:55SPEAKER_07: A tremendous field going forth in this grade one event.
- 36:58SPEAKER_07: And here is Michael Rona with the call.
- 37:01SPEAKER_14: A thoroughly outstanding renewal of the Grade 1 Mildred vessels at Los Alamitos.
- 37:08SPEAKER_14: Racing! Shaking going on, beautiful! Silver back off the inside.
- 37:14SPEAKER_14: AJ Flawless is there.
- 37:16SPEAKER_14: A beautiful out wide shaken going on.
- 37:18SPEAKER_14: AJ Flawless here's curl happy wagon.
- 37:21SPEAKER_14: Beautiful the gray has superior firepower.
- 37:25SPEAKER_14: It's a demolition job!
- 37:28SPEAKER_07: The splendid three-year-old Billy Beautiful gets there in time, making it look easy for trainer Kristen Watanabe and Rodrigo Vallejo in the iron for owner Keith Nellison for this KBN Corona Philly out of the first down dash mare, Butterthink Twice, who was a$29,000 Ridos to Gearling Sales graduate back in 2024.
- 37:51SPEAKER_07: It was bred by Mcaulie Lannon Livestock LLC and earns a berth into the 2026 Champion of Champions with this win in a time of 19.440 seconds for the 400 yards.
- 38:04SPEAKER_07: And we were able to talk with winning owner Keith Nellison about this talented Philly.
- 38:11SPEAKER_07: Alright, thanks for joining us here.
- 38:13SPEAKER_07: Winning owner Keith Nellison talking about Millie Vessel win by beautiful Keith, an amazing, I guess, turn of events.
- 38:22SPEAKER_07: Gave her a decent shot going into this race, but you know, going up against older Phillies and mayors, the thought of a three-year-old prevailing and doing it as with such ease as she did was just as impressive as I'm assuming on your side of the fence as it was on ours.
- 38:37SPEAKER_08: Yes, she uh she made ran a phenomenal race.
- 38:41SPEAKER_08: We look smart now, but at the time we kind of came up with this plan, we didn't know if that was the right plan.
- 38:47SPEAKER_08: We knew it was the right plan for her um to get her ready for the super derby.
- 38:52SPEAKER_08: And uh, no, she ran the best race of her life.
- 38:55SPEAKER_07: So the thought is that she's going to come from the Millie Vessels here and go try to qualify into the super derby with the possibility of the champion of champions at the end of the year?
- 39:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, that's that that that's a possibility.
- 39:08SPEAKER_08: And I mean she's in now, so um, I don't think you really skip out on that.
- 39:12SPEAKER_08: But you know, she's a three-year-old.
- 39:14SPEAKER_08: We kind of pointed her to towards these things.
- 39:17SPEAKER_08: We really wanted to take her out to Riyados, and that that didn't happen.
- 39:21SPEAKER_08: We went out to Albuquerque, and it just wasn't what we were hoping for out there.
- 39:27SPEAKER_08: And uh, she ran a great race, great trial, great final.
- 39:30SPEAKER_08: And she was just a little off for us.
- 39:33SPEAKER_08: So we wanted to get her back home.
- 39:35SPEAKER_08: Uh, she loves Los Alamitos.
- 39:37SPEAKER_08: Um, get her back in Kristen's barn.
- 39:39SPEAKER_08: And uh the Millie Vessels was really the only race that we could go after.
- 39:44SPEAKER_08: And you know, we we know she's really, really talented.
- 39:49SPEAKER_08: The two-year-old year, um frankly, where they don't allow us to use LASIKs out there, it really kind of compromised her.
- 39:57SPEAKER_08: And she's really maturing now, really calming down.
- 40:00SPEAKER_08: We think we have a really good chance in the in the super derby.
- 40:04SPEAKER_08: Um, I've got another great gelding out there in high octane, and you know, he's been continually improving.
- 40:10SPEAKER_08: And so we're gonna put both of them in there and uh see where it goes.
- 40:15SPEAKER_07: Heading over to Lone Star Park, the restricted grade three Dr.
- 40:18SPEAKER_07: Glenn Blodgett stakes for three-year-olds and up, going 350 yards for a$57,000 purse to kick start the stakes calendar there at Lone Star Park.
- 40:29SPEAKER_07: And here's the call.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: They're on Bloods Valiant Policy, very sluggish in the early going and in behind the line.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: Roos Dynasty 1, 2, 3 out fast.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: 9-1-1 in the yellow taking over.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Baby Ruth, right there on the inside.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: 9-1-1 in the Dr.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: Glenn Blodget.
- 40:47SPEAKER_07: 9-1-1 gets it done for trainer Raul Ramirez with Oliver Martinez in the irons for this tempting dash guilding, who's out of the Jodio O'Toole mirror, not my choice, was bred in the state of Texas by Cindy Keaton, and is owned by Jimenez Ranch and stops the clock in a time of 17.601 seconds for the 350 yards.
- 41:10SPEAKER_07: But now we're going to go back out to California as we have the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association, Breeder Security, taking part in a$290,000 event at 350 yards for the two-year-olds.
- 41:23SPEAKER_07: And here's the call from Michael Rona.
- 41:25SPEAKER_14: Racing! CV FDD Dynasty Shan.
- 41:28SPEAKER_14: Look to be leaning on the right side of the gate.
- 41:30SPEAKER_14: He's not the best away.
- 41:32SPEAKER_14: AJ, your favorite, has the early lead.
- 41:34SPEAKER_14: Rational on the inside.
- 41:35SPEAKER_14: Here comes CV FDD Dynasty Shan.
- 41:38SPEAKER_14: AJ, your favorite's the leader! National the inside.
- 41:41SPEAKER_14: It's AJ your favorite winning.
- 41:44SPEAKER_07: This Eddie Willis trainee, AJ, your favorite, gets there in time with jockey Justine Kleiburn in the irons for this$71,000 Riadosa sales graduate for owners Bobby and Larry Rice.
- 41:56SPEAKER_07: As this apolitical jazz filly, whose out-of-the-favorite cartel mare, favorite wise lady, was bred by Rancho El Cabristo Incorporated, and stopped the timers at 17.578 seconds for the 350 yards.
- 42:10SPEAKER_07: Now we're going to move up to Indianapolis for the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Finals there at the horseshoe in Indianapolis for the two-year-olds trying to earn a berth into the championships there in Albuquerque in October.
- 42:23SPEAKER_07: This event,$43,000 on the line, 350 yards, and here's the call.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: They're all for the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Final.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Cyber Affair rockets away in company with BP Jetliner.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: Toward the inside, here's Fatima, 220 yards to go.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: Mounting a charge as Temp Stepper Z with Apolitical Fast right there in the middle.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: Here's Cyber Affair, BP Jetliner, Fatima, and on the outside, Apolitical Fast, BP Jetliner, right there at the finish with Fatima.
- 42:50SPEAKER_07: BP Jetliner gets there in front for trainer Sammy Mendoza with Luis Luna aboard for the$75,000 Heritage Place yearly.
- 42:59SPEAKER_07: In a time of 18.012 seconds for the 350 yards.
- 43:03SPEAKER_07: This Colt is a flying cowboy 123, Colt out of the tempting dash mare, HF Stormy Daniels, and earns a berth into the championships there in Albuquerque.
- 43:13SPEAKER_07: Now it's time to go to the Distaffers for the Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Finals there at the horseshoe in Indianapolis, going 400 yards, Phillies and Mares, three-year-old and upward, and here's the call.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: The Cox Ranch Distaffe Challenge final.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Sharp away.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: Elizabeth Alexandria passed the 330.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: Kelly Girl with Me Blood Token.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Center of attention drifting over here to the stand side rail.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: Alpacini's final gift.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: 110 yards to go with Edgar Diaz.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: And it's Kelly Girl, the Texas Bread, leads the way.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: Sharp victory for Kelly Girl.
- 43:45SPEAKER_07: Kelly Girl gets it done and qualifies into the finals there in Albuquerque for trainer Claudio Barraza with Edgar Diaz aboard for this Heritage Place Fall Mix graduate that went through the sales ring for$17,000.
- 43:58SPEAKER_07: As this four-year-old Philly is by tempting Nash out of the Mr.
- 44:02SPEAKER_07: Just Perry mare, just a classy lassie, and stops the timers in a time of 20.011 seconds, and as mentioned, qualifies into the finals there in Albuquerque.
- 44:13SPEAKER_11: And that'll do it this week for the recap section, as we'll be right back to close this episode of Quarter Horse Racing Talk weekly out after these words.com and to see the multitude of new features and the expanded capacity on just what the most powerful website in the quarter horse racing world can do?
