- 0:27Speaker 2: We didn't.
- 0:28Speaker 1: So we are here today wrapping up the MLB All
- 0:32Speaker 1: Star Break with a little bit of talk. Before we
- 0:34Speaker 1: get going, and before Lance comes in and adds his
- 0:38Speaker 1: first obsidity of the show, we are going to first

- 1:09Speaker 1: group for letting us do this, so head to their shop,
- 1:12Speaker 1: support them and I grab some here. But Lance, here
- 1:16Speaker 1: we are Thursday, after the All Star Game, after the
- 1:19Speaker 1: home run derby Jordan Walker's a home run derby Champ.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I think in general, All Star Break was pretty smooth.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I thought I really wasn't sure what was going on
- 1:31Speaker 1: in the middle of the All Star Game with all
- 1:33Speaker 1: of the production at times. But of that production, what
- 1:38Speaker 1: do you think? What was your favorite part. We'll get
- 1:40Speaker 1: to the home run derby in a second, but I'm
- 1:42Speaker 1: interested to hear what you thought if you saw some
- 1:44Speaker 1: of that extra production that they did in Philly surrounding
- 1:48Speaker 1: July fourth and the two to fifty universary of the
- 1:50Speaker 1: of the Country.
- 1:52Speaker 3: No, I think, you know, I think they did a
- 1:53Speaker 3: good job. I think anytime, All Star Week's always a
- 1:56Speaker 3: fun week. You know, we got a chance to play
- 1:59Speaker 3: in one. The show that you're trying to put on
- 2:02Speaker 3: for the fans and everything that you're trying to accomplish
- 2:05Speaker 3: is a bit hectic, but you know, MLB is doing
- 2:09Speaker 3: their their job to make sure that they do. You know,
- 2:12Speaker 3: they give the fans what they want and then they
- 2:14Speaker 3: also push, you know, what they want to want or
- 2:16Speaker 3: what they want to push during the All Star weeks too,
- 2:19Speaker 3: and stuff like that. So it is what it is.
- 2:21Speaker 3: It's part of the part of the gig, and you
- 2:23Speaker 3: try to enjoy it. I think all in all it
- 2:25Speaker 3: was you know, there was a little maybe too many
- 2:27Speaker 3: strikeouts in the game, but as a picture you like
- 2:31Speaker 3: to see pictures dominate.
- 2:32Speaker 2: But all in all, I think it was a good week.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah. I think my kids and I were sitting down
- 2:38Speaker 1: and we're watching the kind of production piece late in
- 2:42Speaker 1: the game when everybody rode their bikes out on the field,
- 2:45Speaker 1: right and at the beginning, I'm like, what is going
- 2:48Speaker 1: on here?
- 2:49Speaker 2: What do we do it? Uh?
- 2:51Speaker 1: And then one of my I think it was Mills,
- 2:53Speaker 1: he goes, oh, it's kind of like the sandlot hunh
- 2:56Speaker 1: and all the fireworks and run your I was like, dude,
- 2:59Speaker 1: you nailed that was awesome, really cool. I can only
- 3:03Speaker 1: imagine a feeling of one of those kids riding your
- 3:06Speaker 1: bike out on onto citizens bag, which never gets done,
- 3:10Speaker 1: by the way, and nobody ever gets to do that.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I'm sure they understood the cool factor of what they
- 3:16Speaker 1: were going to do. And then they get a stop
- 3:18Speaker 1: off at position and have a three or four minute
- 3:21Speaker 1: check with an MLB All Star getting autographed, take some selfies.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I thought that part was really awesome. Consistent fireworks for
- 3:29Speaker 1: two or three straight minutes. Just I thought that was
- 3:31Speaker 1: a pretty pretty cool touch on top of everything to
- 3:35Speaker 1: the home run derby, well, to your strikeouts for sure,
- 3:38Speaker 1: pictures dominated, But I think you're gonna end up with
- 3:41Speaker 1: a little bit of that when everybody's trying to be
- 3:43Speaker 1: the All Star Game MVP and hit that homer right
- 3:46Speaker 1: you got and who ended up winning the MVP the
- 3:51Speaker 1: guy that hit two runs single in the first hit
- 3:53Speaker 1: you know. But but they build an ending off Sanchez,
- 3:58Speaker 1: which really hasn't happened all year, and he ends up
- 4:00Speaker 1: getting the MVP, Cody Volager. But Jordan Walker. I wish
- 4:05Speaker 1: Jim was here today. Jim didn't want Jordan to do this.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He was all against it. Jordan Walker goes out there
- 4:12Speaker 1: and puts on his show all the all the home
- 4:14Speaker 1: run derby people did. Side note seventy seven home runs
- 4:17Speaker 1: for me, fifty four for you. Also to the side note,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I have to apologize to Murakami. I called him a
- 4:27Speaker 1: right handed hitter and he's a lefty. You had four
- 4:29Speaker 1: lefties on your squad. I messed up, just a last
- 4:31Speaker 1: knowledge on my part, so I apologize for that.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Okay, he's a rookie. You don't knowing he was in
- 4:38Speaker 2: the league when you were in the league.
- 4:41Speaker 1: What'd you think of that format? And I don't know
- 4:44Speaker 1: how much you gotta watch, but what'd you think of
- 4:46Speaker 1: that new format with swings and not no longer time.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I like to swing format, to be honest with you,
- 4:52Speaker 3: because I think you need to be more precise instead
- 4:54Speaker 3: of just ripping off as many swings and a time
- 4:57Speaker 3: that you have. So I think, all in all, for
- 4:59Speaker 3: the health of the player, for the you know, if
- 5:03Speaker 3: you have a purpose for each swing. I like that
- 5:06Speaker 3: where they can be more precise on their swings and
- 5:10Speaker 3: they don't get tired and don't risk the injury. So
- 5:12Speaker 3: all in all, I think I like the new format
- 5:14Speaker 3: better than anything else. So and then they put on
- 5:17Speaker 3: a show too, so it worked out well.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I mean, our friend Wilson Contreras was not worried about
- 5:25Speaker 1: a sore back. That guy was taking a little manma
- 5:29Speaker 1: hacks all night long. I think you have four over
- 5:33Speaker 1: four to seventy five, and the only guy that hit
- 5:36Speaker 1: it farther was Junior Cameron Arow for ninety one. But Wilson,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I think that format, like you said, plays into some
- 5:45Speaker 1: of the show at all, and plays into the majestic
- 5:50Speaker 1: of watching the ball fly and seeing these guys hit
- 5:54Speaker 1: into the upper deck in the bank. Wilson and Cameron Arow,
- 5:58Speaker 1: they let it fly for as many swings as they have,
- 6:00Speaker 1: whereas I think Schwarber and Walker, those guys, you could
- 6:04Speaker 1: see them kind of putting a swing to hit four
- 6:06Speaker 1: hundred and twenty instead of that longer distance.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 3: No, I think you're looking at two guys that I mean,
- 6:14Speaker 3: I think in the in the games that Wilson and
- 6:17Speaker 3: they play in real life too, that's.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Kind of see that they just put a little extra
- 6:22Speaker 2: juice on it. So uh yeah, you're looking at the
- 6:25Speaker 2: Walker and Schwarps.
- 6:27Speaker 3: They're having they're more hey, I'm here to you know,
- 6:30Speaker 3: not kill myself, where the other two are hating a
- 6:33Speaker 3: long drive contest instead of trying to hit fairways.
- 6:36Speaker 2: So uh but I mean that's the beauty of it.
- 6:40Speaker 3: You're gonna have different ways to go about it, and uh,
- 6:42Speaker 3: you know, some guys are trying to you know, screw
- 6:44Speaker 3: themselves in the ground by swinging as hard as you
- 6:46Speaker 3: can and you spinding on it. So but that's the
- 6:49Speaker 3: that's the fun of it. Hey man, Let's see how
- 6:51Speaker 3: hard I can swing off far I can hit it.
- 6:53Speaker 3: If that's what you're there to do, then that's what
- 6:54Speaker 3: you're there to do. I think Schwarbur's trying to get
- 6:56Speaker 3: as many hormones as he could and his swings. That's
- 6:59Speaker 3: a different just a totally different ballgame.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Riley O'Brien throws up zero. Jordan Walker obviously showed out
- 7:08Speaker 1: in the home run derby of I heard didn't get
- 7:09Speaker 1: a hit, But I'm not sure if Avon thinks of
- 7:13Speaker 1: it this way or many players do. But I thought,
- 7:17Speaker 1: for me and my All Star game, coming in after
- 7:19Speaker 1: show Hey and you, was pretty cool kind of being
- 7:22Speaker 1: that third guy. Avon Shorter starts as the d H.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Harper hits for him, and he pinched hits for Harper
- 7:29Speaker 1: late in the game. Pretty cool to be in that
- 7:32Speaker 1: trio of players. But didn't get a hit. But obviously
- 7:35Speaker 1: was there all three of those guys represented Saint Louis
- 7:38Speaker 1: well in your two All Star games? Was that something
- 7:44Speaker 1: you were thinking about the team, Think about your family.
- 7:46Speaker 1: There's a lot going on, but what is there any
- 7:49Speaker 1: thought process behind there, like, man, I really want to
- 7:52Speaker 1: play a little bit here for the name on the
- 7:53Speaker 1: front and do what I came for them.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you just want to make sure that
- 7:59Speaker 3: you well, the the main thing is you want to
- 8:01Speaker 3: make sure.
- 8:01Speaker 2: That you fit right.
- 8:03Speaker 3: You're like, hey, I belong here, so I need to
- 8:05Speaker 3: go out there and get a hit or you know,
- 8:07Speaker 3: you want to go put up a zero when you're pitching,
- 8:10Speaker 3: so that that that goes along with it. And then
- 8:13Speaker 3: you know, for those guys when you come up, I
- 8:15Speaker 3: think when I like when when I was young, my
- 8:17Speaker 3: first one with the Cardinals, I didn't really understand it,
- 8:20Speaker 3: and then when I went to the one in twenty one,
- 8:22Speaker 3: you kind of understood it a little bit more. So
- 8:25Speaker 3: those guys are are young, and they're in they're in
- 8:27Speaker 3: their time in the big league, so I think older,
- 8:30Speaker 3: when they older, they get they'll understand what they did.
- 8:32Speaker 3: They represent the team and stuff like that. And all
- 8:35Speaker 3: those guys are are representing the team great they do
- 8:38Speaker 3: on and off the field. As we know, we know
- 8:40Speaker 3: all of them as teammates. You know they're good dudes too,
- 8:43Speaker 3: So yeah, you try to think of as both ways.
- 8:45Speaker 3: And then you also as a player, you're like, man,
- 8:48Speaker 3: I got to show everybody that I belong here, so
- 8:49Speaker 3: I need to get a hit, so kind of or
- 8:51Speaker 3: like I said, get your outs when you go out there.
- 8:53Speaker 3: So it's a it's definitely a little little crazy feeling
- 8:56Speaker 3: when you're when you're doing.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It all right.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So the All Star Game has passed, there's still a
- 9:05Speaker 1: lot of really cool activities coming up. Just so you know, Lance,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I'm not leading into a question. I'm leading into a
- 9:11Speaker 1: Sea Geek reap. I know Jim kind of leaves us
- 9:13Speaker 1: on the hook every now and then. But one thing
- 9:16Speaker 1: that even though the All Stars passed, my family, we're
- 9:18Speaker 1: excited to go see Force Frank here coming up in
- 9:21Speaker 1: about a week and a half in Saint Louis. If
- 9:23Speaker 1: you are looking for something to do right now, we're

- 9:31Speaker 1: with your family, go check out Sea Geek. They've got

- 9:41Speaker 1: is why we want to give the sponsor of today show,
- 9:44Speaker 1: Sea geek a huge shout out. They have thirty five
- 9:46Speaker 1: million downloads With that, sea Geek is the number one
- 9:49Speaker 1: rated ticketing app. There are more than seventy thousand events
- 9:53Speaker 1: listening on sea geek, including concerts, sports, festivals and more.
- 9:57Speaker 1: MLB still in full swing, some of the other playoffs
- 10:01Speaker 1: are done, the NFL schedules out and that's coming up.

- 10:07Speaker 1: you need a ticket to any of those, go to

- 10:22Speaker 1: we're going to Forrest, Frank, That's gonna be a lot
- 10:24Speaker 1: of fun. Lance, I don't know, are you you got
- 10:27Speaker 1: an event that you're going to anytime soon?
- 10:30Speaker 3: We have nothing on the schedule at the time being,
- 10:33Speaker 3: but I'm looking at that football schedule with the Colts.
- 10:36Speaker 3: You know, I need Indiana Jones to come back with
- 10:38Speaker 3: a vengeance from his achilles this year, so I'll be
- 10:40Speaker 3: be looking for some seats. They'll through seat Gee.
- 10:43Speaker 1: So Lance is gonna go get NFL seats, but see

- 11:16Speaker 1: and have the code automatically added to your account so
- 11:19Speaker 1: you can use it later. Thank you, Seatkeek. So to
- 11:23Speaker 1: the All Star Game, you mentioned pitching dominated it. I
- 11:27Speaker 1: kind of look back at some of the other scores.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Normally the scores the total runs were in between six
- 11:33Speaker 1: to eight, six to nine runs, so a few less.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It looked like it was going to be, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: maybe a little bit higher run total with that first inning,
- 11:41Speaker 1: but all the pitchers kind of you know, settled in.
- 11:45Speaker 1: You think that's good for the All Star Game. I
- 11:48Speaker 1: don't mind it. Like you said, we're pictures, but I
- 11:51Speaker 1: don't want people to panic and freak out because there
- 11:54Speaker 1: were a bunch of strikeouts and it was a low
- 11:55Speaker 1: scoring game either.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I think it comes in ways.
- 11:59Speaker 3: I think you're going to have All Star games that
- 12:01Speaker 3: are going to go like this, and you have All
- 12:02Speaker 3: Star games where you like, you look up and it's
- 12:04Speaker 3: eight to six or something like that. So I think
- 12:07Speaker 3: all in all, you see a lot of our pitchings
- 12:10Speaker 3: that are probably the best it's ever been in the
- 12:12Speaker 3: in the league league wide, with how much nasty guys
- 12:16Speaker 3: stuff has as you saw in the game. So I
- 12:20Speaker 3: think that, you know, I mean, you got your best
- 12:23Speaker 3: pitchers out there. They usually are gonna, you know, have
- 12:26Speaker 3: more success than hitters that are, hey, i'm gonna get
- 12:30Speaker 3: one at bat. I'm just gonna try to let it fly.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I hit a home run, like you said, So I
- 12:35Speaker 3: think it's part of it. They're trying to take the
- 12:38Speaker 3: guy deep and then there guys trying to strike him out.
- 12:40Speaker 3: So usually when you're trying to hit home runs, you're
- 12:42Speaker 3: gonna strike out more times than.
- 12:43Speaker 2: You're gonna get a hit.
- 12:45Speaker 3: I've noticed in in my life and watching guys that
- 12:47Speaker 3: try to hit home runs. Every swing they take, they
- 12:50Speaker 3: tend to strike out more. So I think that's just
- 12:52Speaker 3: what you're seeing. And fans want home runs. They want
- 12:54Speaker 3: home runs, and they want big swings, and you know,
- 12:57Speaker 3: that's just part of the game.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And on top of it, I think we have a
- 13:02Speaker 1: lot of what seemed to be a lot of first
- 13:04Speaker 1: year All Stars on the pitching side, and the hitting side,
- 13:08Speaker 1: which tends to lead a little bit to less familiarity,
- 13:11Speaker 1: leans to the picture side, gives them a little bit
- 13:14Speaker 1: of an advantage there. Last question on the All Star Game.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I don't know exactly where you stand on this, but
- 13:21Speaker 1: when it comes to fan voting, do you think the
- 13:26Speaker 1: voting process for the All Star Game should be switched
- 13:30Speaker 1: up a little bit or do you think it's fine
- 13:33Speaker 1: how it is and this is purely a fans game
- 13:36Speaker 1: and that's how we're going to leave it.
- 13:38Speaker 3: It's always tough because here's the it's a fans game
- 13:43Speaker 3: and they should have a vote of some sort. But
- 13:45Speaker 3: people don't realize how much these All Star nods and
- 13:49Speaker 3: stuff can hurt or help a player, and arbitration cations
- 13:54Speaker 3: and stuff like that, So you're putting a lot of
- 13:57Speaker 3: things in the hands of fans that could cost the
- 14:00Speaker 3: guys money and or or make them more money, to
- 14:04Speaker 3: be honest, So it's a weird, weird thing. I think
- 14:07Speaker 3: there definitely should be a fan vote, but I think
- 14:09Speaker 3: there also should be some feel with how how they
- 14:13Speaker 3: vote and what they vote on, so you know certain
- 14:16Speaker 3: you know guys don't get left off a roster that
- 14:19Speaker 3: you know fully deserve it over just a bigger market
- 14:22Speaker 3: player just because they had a lot more fans that voted.
- 14:25Speaker 3: So there definitely could be some adjustment just to make
- 14:28Speaker 3: sure that there's guys that don't get left out in
- 14:30Speaker 3: small markets in pre RM and stuff like that, because
- 14:33Speaker 3: you know that's a that's a good way for them
- 14:35Speaker 3: to get noticed nationally for at the Allstar Game. But
- 14:38Speaker 3: also you know they're going to need those things, especially
- 14:41Speaker 3: if they deserve it to be on All Star when
- 14:43Speaker 3: they go into their.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Their cases and stuff like that.
- 14:45Speaker 3: So you always will wonder, right, I remember I got
- 14:48Speaker 3: left off the team one year and there's, hey, you
- 14:51Speaker 3: don't want to get you don't want to go to
- 14:52Speaker 3: arbitration with a two time All Star, is what I
- 14:55Speaker 3: was told while I was left off a team. So
- 14:57Speaker 3: it's like Hey, well that sucks, you know, but so
- 15:00Speaker 3: that's the things you can kind of worry about.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I really enjoy and I think the
- 15:08Speaker 1: the good part of the fan voting is for the starters.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think if you give them I was just talking
- 15:15Speaker 1: actually with my kids about this because because Hayden or
- 15:18Speaker 1: somebody asked me about, you know, who picks the All Stars,
- 15:21Speaker 1: And I think it'd be really interesting to see what
- 15:24Speaker 1: the fans thought if you gave them all Right, guys,
- 15:26Speaker 1: here is your nine AL outfielders, here is your eight
- 15:32Speaker 1: AL in fielders, and so on.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Uh.
- 15:34Speaker 1: The pitchers are kind of interesting because they're just for
- 15:36Speaker 1: the most part, you know league and and you know,
- 15:41Speaker 1: coaches and players appointed. But I think it'd be interesting
- 15:44Speaker 1: to see if you did that type of a runoff.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So then your All Stars were known, and then the
- 15:49Speaker 1: fans got to pick who started. Because I think there's
- 15:54Speaker 1: a lot on the line. And Vladimir or Junior is
- 15:57Speaker 1: a great player, right. Uh, he didn't end up going
- 16:00Speaker 1: to the game. He struggled this year, but he's got
- 16:02Speaker 1: the whole country of Canada voting for him to be
- 16:04Speaker 1: an ulcer. So I understand there's a little bit of
- 16:08Speaker 1: give and take. He has deserved all the recognition in
- 16:11Speaker 1: the world by all means. But I think it'd be
- 16:14Speaker 1: interesting to see if the fans were more so in
- 16:17Speaker 1: vote in charge of only voting for the starters instead

- 17:42Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to Cardinal Territory. I'm Kyle Gibson.
- 17:45Speaker 1: He's Lance Lynn. We got a little bit of Cardinal
- 17:47Speaker 1: talk here to finish up the show for today. Lance,
- 17:50Speaker 1: Here's what the next thirteen games look like for the Cardinals.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Three against Arizona, three against the Angels, three against Cincinnati.
- 17:59Speaker 1: All right, I think we like to see those nine games.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Definitely go to carlinals Way, it's gonna be huge. Four
- 18:05Speaker 1: against the Cubs right at right after that, that leads
- 18:08Speaker 1: up to the All Star to the trade deadline.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 18:11Speaker 1: My question for you is how many of those thirteen
- 18:16Speaker 1: games do the Cardinals need to win to force the
- 18:20Speaker 1: hand of the front office to keep them from trading
- 18:24Speaker 1: we'll say three or four or more players.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I would say ten.
- 18:34Speaker 3: They gonna win ten out of thirteen. I want to
- 18:37Speaker 3: say nine, but it's gotta be. It's gotta be ten.
- 18:39Speaker 3: You gotta it's gotta be like a a number where
- 18:42Speaker 3: it's like, okay, there there, we can't we can't break
- 18:45Speaker 3: it up. You know what I'm saying. I don't know,
- 18:47Speaker 3: but that's my my. If they go five hundred dish
- 18:50Speaker 3: during that that stretch, I think that they they stayed
- 18:53Speaker 3: the course of what they've been planning to do all season,
- 18:56Speaker 3: all off season when they built this team.
- 19:00Speaker 1: So for for reference here they go ten and three,
- 19:05Speaker 1: and we'll just say they go ten and two and
- 19:07Speaker 1: two against the Cubs, because obviously if they go three
- 19:10Speaker 1: to one against the Cubs that makes a big difference
- 19:12Speaker 1: in the wildcart. But we'll just say they go ten
- 19:14Speaker 1: and three. That puts them at sixty and forty eight.
- 19:18Speaker 1: They would be one of I don't know at that point,
- 19:21Speaker 1: one of five maybe six teams in the NL with
- 19:25Speaker 1: sixty wins, and it would be it'd be a big deal,
- 19:31Speaker 1: right three, and I would squarely put them I don't
- 19:34Speaker 1: think ten and three catches the Phillies and I don't think.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I think ten and three catches the Cubs per se,
- 19:41Speaker 1: but they'll pass the Marlins at that point and pretty
- 19:46Speaker 1: squarely in that third wild Cart and I kind of agree.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I think ten and three forces the hand. I think
- 19:52Speaker 1: nine and four, eight and five the front office, they're
- 19:56Speaker 1: probably not. I don't think they catch the Marlins at
- 19:58Speaker 1: that unless the Marlins, you know, really struggle here in
- 20:01Speaker 1: a second have to start, which if I remember, and
- 20:03Speaker 1: we talked about the schedule, the Marlins have a tough
- 20:06Speaker 1: schedule coming up, including the Phillies and including maybe Milwaukee.
- 20:10Speaker 1: So okay, maybe maybe that is definitely a possibility. But
- 20:16Speaker 1: I think that I can probably right. I think there's
- 20:20Speaker 1: probably two to three players going regardless. Would you agree
- 20:24Speaker 1: with that?
- 20:25Speaker 3: So here's yeah, And if you like the way that
- 20:27Speaker 3: you said the teams, you think about this, they're going
- 20:30Speaker 3: to be third in their division at the deadline pretty much.
- 20:34Speaker 3: There'll be six ish on the on the win total
- 20:39Speaker 3: in the National League, So you're like last one in.
- 20:42Speaker 3: You have to kind of make sure you do what
- 20:45Speaker 3: you need to do if it fits right. You're not
- 20:48Speaker 3: just selling them to get a high a prospect. You're
- 20:50Speaker 3: you're selling them to get a Okay, I need to
- 20:53Speaker 3: get the things that I need to be relevant now
- 20:57Speaker 3: but definitely relevant next year. So you know, I don't
- 21:01Speaker 3: I'm not for it just adding three prospects just because
- 21:05Speaker 3: you can. So that's gonna be the hard part for
- 21:08Speaker 3: for him, and he's got, you know, decisions he's gonna
- 21:11Speaker 3: have to make. But anybody that's on expiring contract I
- 21:15Speaker 3: think is going to get dealt. That's what That's what
- 21:18Speaker 3: I think is going to happen. And I think you're
- 21:20Speaker 3: and I think that's what three guys for sure? We
- 21:22Speaker 3: got three?
- 21:23Speaker 2: Right?
- 21:23Speaker 1: Is it?
- 21:23Speaker 2: Would you say, may Stanek and Jojo are the three
- 21:27Speaker 2: that are un expiring? Yeah? Sorry, yeah, yeah, what's is
- 21:32Speaker 2: in one year to do? You read's? Right?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean he's he's on the IL right now.
- 21:39Speaker 1: You have a couple more. But I mean, I think
- 21:44Speaker 1: my question would be is I think this looks like
- 21:47Speaker 1: a little bit kind of how they approach the Aeronado
- 21:51Speaker 1: trade situation where they were going to trade anybody else
- 21:54Speaker 1: until they traded Aeronado going into twenty twenty four or
- 21:59Speaker 1: excuse me, twenty twenty five, So they kind of had decided, Okay,
- 22:02Speaker 1: if we can't trade him, we're holding I My fear
- 22:07Speaker 1: is that Newt bar is going to be a guy
- 22:11Speaker 1: that is very sought after, and I think he probably
- 22:14Speaker 1: gets you the best return for pieces for the future.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Especially if you go like Newt and Jojo. I think
- 22:23Speaker 1: that gets you a really good return that's going to
- 22:27Speaker 1: help you.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Do you can you go what you what do you
- 22:30Speaker 3: go after in that return? What what do you have
- 22:32Speaker 3: to get in that return to trade him? Do trade Newt?
- 22:36Speaker 1: I mean I'm biased to this. I'm going for pitching always.
- 22:38Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:39Speaker 3: You have to get the guys see as a top
- 22:41Speaker 3: three starter, like a literally a Warner or two in
- 22:45Speaker 3: the future.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I don't think I did. Yeah, but that guy's in
- 22:48Speaker 1: high A or double it. Nobody's going to give you
- 22:50Speaker 1: that guy that's in triple A right now unless they
- 22:53Speaker 1: just pitching. They can't hold on to it.
- 22:55Speaker 2: So I always, you got to get one.
- 23:00Speaker 3: I don't need. I don't need four guys in high eight.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I need a top five prospect from a team.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I want to be on the side of a trade
- 23:11Speaker 1: that includes a position player and a pitcher. I want
- 23:13Speaker 1: to be on the side that's getting the picture. That's
- 23:16Speaker 1: just personally, I mean That's just kind of how I
- 23:20Speaker 1: look at it, so maybe a little biased, but I
- 23:24Speaker 1: think though that new is the domino that.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Would have right and center fielder. Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Sure, But I think my problem I have a new
- 23:37Speaker 1: right now is that I think Newt is the domino
- 23:40Speaker 1: that throws off the rest of the year. If you
- 23:43Speaker 1: trade two or three guys and one of them is
- 23:45Speaker 1: large new Bar, I don't think the rest of the
- 23:48Speaker 1: year goes well. If you trade two or three guys
- 23:52Speaker 1: and Lars new Bar is still on your team, I
- 23:54Speaker 1: think you still have a pretty good chance just from
- 23:57Speaker 1: leadership and personality standpoint. And I also think if you
- 24:01Speaker 1: really are set on trading Newt, then I think the
- 24:04Speaker 1: offseason is as good of a time to do that
- 24:08Speaker 1: as any time, because now you have twenty nine teams
- 24:10Speaker 1: who still think they're in it. Newt is gonna fit
- 24:13Speaker 1: on how many of these playoff thirteen teams that are
- 24:16Speaker 1: going to be trading for teams training for players. You know,
- 24:19Speaker 1: he's gonna fit in just a couple of them, and
- 24:22Speaker 1: I think you're limiting yourself. Lars becomes a much probably
- 24:26Speaker 1: a more valuable piece in December, you know, or whenever
- 24:30Speaker 1: they figure out the CBA right, So I would hold
- 24:33Speaker 1: Newt and I don't ever like to say relievers are expendable,
- 24:37Speaker 1: because they're really not. Ryan Stank's been really good, by
- 24:39Speaker 1: the way Ryan Stanek is. He's gonna be spought after,
- 24:42Speaker 1: hard throwing, righty, nasty stuff, and over his last thirty games,
- 24:46Speaker 1: he's got three and he's sold.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Them all really well. He's a no doubt yet.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a no doubtor in my opinion, to trade
- 24:55Speaker 3: and be And I say this in the nicest way possible.
- 24:59Speaker 3: He's gone, he's older, this and that, but he is
- 25:02Speaker 3: the younger guys in the minor leagues. You got to
- 25:05Speaker 3: see what a couple of those guys can do at
- 25:06Speaker 3: the big bigue level in the second half to make
- 25:09Speaker 3: sure that you know what you have for next year too.
- 25:11Speaker 3: So they're in a weird spot. Some of these bullpen
- 25:13Speaker 3: arms can go. So you can bring up maybe a
- 25:16Speaker 3: triple A starter and let them throw multiple innings out
- 25:19Speaker 3: of the bullpen to get their feet wet. And you're
- 25:21Speaker 3: going to need some extra starts down the stretch too
- 25:24Speaker 3: because of just innings that are going to pile up
- 25:27Speaker 3: on all these guys. So I think that there's you know,
- 25:29Speaker 3: like you said, they're not you know, you're not replaceable,
- 25:32Speaker 3: but they are in a sense of you have young
- 25:34Speaker 3: arms that you need to see what they can do.
- 25:36Speaker 3: And that's what you saw Swanson come up and do
- 25:38Speaker 3: that last year out of the bullpen after Helsley left.
- 25:42Speaker 3: So you don't know what you got until you give
- 25:44Speaker 3: them a chance. And if you're not going to go
- 25:46Speaker 3: all the way in, you might as well give those
- 25:48Speaker 3: guys a chance next year so you don't have to
- 25:50Speaker 3: spend money on pieces next offseason. Into the Lars comment
- 25:54Speaker 3: one hundred percent agree with you, Lars Is and people.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I don't know if people know this, but we do.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Lars is the dude in the clubhouse. He's awesome. Everybody
- 26:03Speaker 3: loves him. He he keeps the team together, he keeps
- 26:06Speaker 3: him going, he's funny, he does a lot of positives
- 26:10Speaker 3: in that clubhouse.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I'm for.
- 26:13Speaker 3: If you're gonna be good next year, you need large
- 26:16Speaker 3: new bar on your team. So I'm for extending large
- 26:19Speaker 3: new bar and making large new large the guy to
- 26:23Speaker 3: help take this team into the end of what you're
- 26:25Speaker 3: going because I think that that's who he is as
- 26:27Speaker 3: a group. Any complete all three Offield positions, and he
- 26:30Speaker 3: is your leader. So he's gonna be free agent after
- 26:33Speaker 3: next year, like give they you know what his arbitration
- 26:36Speaker 3: number is probably gonna be next year in the ballpark,
- 26:38Speaker 3: and then you know what you need to give him
- 26:40Speaker 3: in free agency, and you know, whatever that number is,
- 26:43Speaker 3: it's going to be right around twenty ish and see
- 26:47Speaker 3: if he takes it. And that's where we're at. I
- 26:49Speaker 3: think he's a guy that has to stay.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I think he's an interesting case for both ar and
- 26:53Speaker 1: free agency because of his unfortunate injury history, and I
- 26:58Speaker 1: think if he loves Saint Louis, which I think all
- 27:02Speaker 1: science point to him enjoying it here, I think you
- 27:05Speaker 1: have a real chance to sign a player who has
- 27:08Speaker 1: had some injury history, but when on the field has
- 27:12Speaker 1: been very good for you. I think you're right, and
- 27:15Speaker 1: extension makes a whole lot of sense, and I think
- 27:17Speaker 1: it's going to be a situation where the team and
- 27:19Speaker 1: the player are gonna be pretty excited about it him.
- 27:21Speaker 1: My last question for you has to do a little
- 27:25Speaker 1: bit with the trade here, and I feel a little
- 27:27Speaker 1: bit like Jim Hayes as I asked this question. So
- 27:29Speaker 1: I hope that you understand that I Am not trying
- 27:32Speaker 1: to ask a question like Jim Hayes, But do you
- 27:34Speaker 1: think there is a chance that a player outside of
- 27:39Speaker 1: those five Stanley O'Brien, Jojo May, and Newt do you
- 27:43Speaker 1: think there's a high possibility that a player comes out
- 27:47Speaker 1: in the dark the woodwork here and him sees a
- 27:50Speaker 1: chance to maybe get a little bit better deal by
- 27:54Speaker 1: trading one of those other players that it's going to
- 27:57Speaker 1: probably catch Cardinals fans by surprise.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of I wouldn't be surprised.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll give you some names here, and I don't.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Once again, we know these guys, so I I hate
- 28:12Speaker 1: even bringing this up, all right, but you got guys
- 28:14Speaker 1: like Herrera, Burly. I think Polante is going to be
- 28:18Speaker 1: asked about. I think libertoor is going to be asked about.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I think everybody's gonna be asked about. You know, maybe
- 28:23Speaker 1: except for Walker because everybody knows his price on me
- 28:26Speaker 1: too high. But those are kind of those guys that
- 28:29Speaker 1: I look at and be like, what, I.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Don't think the.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Off Yeah, I don't think Herrera goes anywhere. I don't Polante.
- 28:42Speaker 3: When you said his name, I was like, that's a
- 28:44Speaker 3: that's a that one could happen.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I think. I don't know why.
- 28:49Speaker 3: I think that, Well, he's got what one more year?
- 28:51Speaker 3: Arm is he in that situation too? So him and
- 28:55Speaker 3: Newt are in the same ballpark of where they're getting at.
- 28:57Speaker 3: So they're at their highest value, you because of the
- 29:01Speaker 3: the year and a half of control or whatever. So yeah,
- 29:05Speaker 3: I think that there is there could definitely be somebody
- 29:08Speaker 3: that's traded that people are not calling for to be traded. Yeah,
- 29:14Speaker 3: And I got a couple other thoughts too that they
- 29:17Speaker 3: could do, but you know that's for another day.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we can go another day. I'm checking here on
- 29:22Speaker 1: polone because I think that is Let's see, he started
- 29:26Speaker 1: the year, now he's got a couple more years of control.
- 29:28Speaker 2: He started the year was super two where it was
- 29:30Speaker 2: Easton per two.
- 29:31Speaker 1: But he was a Super two, so he's gonna have
- 29:33Speaker 1: four and at the end of the year, so he'll
- 29:35Speaker 1: have two more years of control.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I still wet.
- 29:39Speaker 3: With the new CBA kicks in and let's say the
- 29:42Speaker 3: service time to free agency goes from six to five,
- 29:46Speaker 3: what happens to all these guys.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I think some of it's gonna have to be Grand
- 29:50Speaker 1: Paul been It'll be interesting to see how they approach that.
- 29:52Speaker 1: This is all the stuff that you know, fans and
- 29:55Speaker 1: media don't necessarily need an in or look at, but
- 29:58Speaker 1: it happens, right, They're going to get an inner look
- 30:00Speaker 1: at this and think that this is a great deal
- 30:02Speaker 1: for players, are a great deal for the owners. And
- 30:04Speaker 1: there's so much inner workings all of this, and this
- 30:06Speaker 1: is why it's gonna take a lot of time if
- 30:08Speaker 1: big things like that happen. But yeah, i'd be.
- 30:13Speaker 2: That changed.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Andre Ponte. A free agency goes from six to five
- 30:16Speaker 1: and now he's got one more year control.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Big deal be interesting.
- 30:23Speaker 1: And you know only the CBA talks coming up in
- 30:27Speaker 1: in November. I think we're gonna have some fun with
- 30:29Speaker 1: that unless something crazy happened the next few weeks. But
- 30:33Speaker 1: Lance appreciate your brother. Uh next week, you guys are
- 30:36Speaker 1: gonna to see Jim again, So tune in if you
- 30:39Speaker 1: want to see Jim. Uh No, sorry, but he's gonna
- 30:43Speaker 1: be back. But hey, h'all watch him if you watched it.
- 30:48Speaker 1: This is a big cardlo territory. You'll have a good
- 30:50Speaker 1: weekend and let's go cards
