- 0:11Speaker 1: This is Marshall and his mother Alicia. Just feet away
- 0:16inside the trunk lies the dead body of Marshall's girlfriend.
- 0:20He has cut her body up and plans to discard
- 0:23it in the remote mountains of the Sierra Foothills. Over
- 0:28the next several weeks, a series of small mistakes in
- 0:31Marshall's cover up would bring him face to face with
- 0:34local police and the FBI, watching detectives unknowingly walk past
- 0:39his murder scene and slowly discovering the monster he truly is.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You have you guys thought about maybe she was trafficked.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's approximately six thirty PM in Antioch, California, when twenty
- 1:08four year old Alexis Gabe is seen at a Chevron
- 1:11gas station. While filling up her car, she receives a
- 1:14message from her boyfriend. Are you still coming over? She replies,
- 1:18I can only come by for a bit. After paying,
- 1:21Alexis gets back on the road, and by six thirty
- 1:24seven PM she's seen arriving at her boyfriend's house. He
- 1:27doesn't know it yet, but she's there to break up
- 1:30with him, a decision that will carry far greater consequences
- 1:35than she expects. Two hours pass then Alexis's car is
- 1:41seen leaving Marshall's house, but something isn't right. The vehicle
- 1:46takes an unusual route, one Alexis never uses to get home,
- 1:50and just twelve minutes later, roughly six miles away, it
- 1:53pulls into a quiet residential neighborhood. A masked figure steps
- 1:57out of the car, noticeably larger than Alexis. Moments later,
- 2:02her phone pings, did you make it home? And as
- 2:05the figure disappears into the distance, Alexis is never seen
- 2:10or heard from again.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Sure, I think the police it is a family member
- 2:18or friend a family members.
- 2:21Speaker 2: And how long do you talk to hers? No one
- 2:23says of her, since she went to see.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Her ex boyfriend last night.
- 2:26Speaker 5: At eight thirty and she got after her phone racing.
- 2:30Speaker 6: Now it's going straight to police.
- 2:33Speaker 1: On the line is Alexis Gabe's sister. Her tone is
- 2:36urgent as she insists on filing a missing person's report immediately.
- 2:40To better understand the situation, Dispatchison's officer Rod Coutney to
- 2:44the family's home, and that's where he learns why Alexis's
- 2:48family is already fearing the worst.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Good morning, how you doing? I'm a detective of what
- 2:55the police for at. I'm going to get some info
- 2:57from the US and I'm going to start looking for Alexis.
- 3:00Speaker 4: That's that's okay, Okay.
- 3:10Speaker 5: She ever make any like sort of superstatements, no, okay?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Is she uh generally pretty happy?
- 3:19Speaker 4: Yea.
- 3:21Speaker 5: She's always out, always out. Do you know where she
- 3:25goes a lot of the time.
- 3:26Speaker 7: With her friend?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Uh?
- 3:28Speaker 8: He and riha, she's yesterday too.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Does she have any mental health issues? It's generally an
- 3:37anti depressor.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 3:38Speaker 9: That's that's why she said, that's what she's looking out for.
- 3:42Speaker 8: The doctor.
- 3:42Speaker 2: She's seeing the doctor.
- 3:44Speaker 9: Okay, Well, they have an accident with her boyfriend. Car
- 3:47accident said, you have a appointment.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Who's your boyfriend?
- 3:53Speaker 9: The one that we know is Marshall Marshall. Yeah, we
- 3:57just find out yesterday. The friend said, Marshall setting Alexis.
- 4:02If they can broke up, he's going to fit Alexis.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Oh okay, and this is Marshall Marshall. Okay.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Needless to say, the officer knows exactly who they need
- 4:14to speak with next. According to Alexis's mother, Marshall Jones
- 4:18is the boyfriend she went to see last but even
- 4:21more troubling is her claim that he had threatened to
- 4:23harm himself or Alexis if they ever broke up. As
- 4:27County wraps up his initial search, he relays the information
- 4:31to his sergeant. From there, requests are made for street
- 4:34CCTV footage, a real time location warrant for her phone,
- 4:37and most urgently, another officer is dispatched to Marshall's address.
- 4:43Later that afternoon. The officer arrives at the house, knowing
- 4:46Marshall is one of the last people to see Alexis alive.
- 4:50The officer expects to gather more information about her whereabouts,
- 4:53but he's about to get much more than that. But
- 4:56before we get to that, I want to talk about
- 4:58something else that's important. For almost a year, I've had
- 5:01this discomfort with my ear, and every time I thought
- 5:04about booking an appointment, I saw the long waiting times
- 5:07and just told myself it would probably go away on
- 5:09its own. But it never did. I know, We've all
- 5:11been there. It's easy to do, but that's where today's sponsor,

- 6:15Speaker 10: You is Marshall home?
- 6:17Speaker 11: No?
- 6:20Speaker 12: Yes?
- 6:22Speaker 13: Okay, how y'all doing today? Okay, y'all be safe, be careful. Okay,
- 6:43that's hey, ok you know lessus.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm gonna say yeah, I'm sorry.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Yeah, her mom told me that she didn't come home.
- 6:57Speaker 8: So yeah, because so spoke her brother and friends in
- 6:59their concern. Oh, I concerned too.
- 7:02Speaker 5: When was the last time you spoke to her?
- 7:04Speaker 8: Sir?
- 7:06Speaker 4: You know what I can.
- 7:09Speaker 8: I'm the same way, so I can. Sure you might
- 7:15call love.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I talked to her throughout the day yesterday, I want
- 7:24to say six thirty eight is when she.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Told me that she was outside. She here, Yeah, I lettering.
- 7:34We hung out for a couple of hours.
- 7:37Speaker 13: She left around nine, And did she say where she
- 7:40was going?
- 7:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I can show you text me.
- 7:44Speaker 8: She said that the way you give me the better man.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I remember her saying this is from today. It's not delivering.
- 7:51I've been trying to call her. I was like, you're
- 7:55still going over you must still be sleep. She's like,
- 7:57I can only come back for a bit today. I
- 7:59was like, okay, because she was doing some other stuff
- 8:03for her job that she was going to run around
- 8:05for it. You know I did what she maybe you know, brother,
- 8:09I'm gonna keep a buck with you. I honestly thought
- 8:13she went to go smoke with her friend Ria when
- 8:15she left here, Ria, Ma Ria, Maria, Ria, Oh Maria. Yeah, okay,
- 8:21I thought she wanted to go smoke with her, because
- 8:24usually she won't tell me, you know, what she's doing
- 8:28till she's already doing. So I thought she went there,
- 8:32and but then when I kept on home.
- 8:34Speaker 8: Back eleven and I wouldn't get anything.
- 8:37Speaker 13: Okay, did you did you see out of sorts when
- 8:40she came over yesterday?
- 8:41Speaker 5: Was she her normal self whatever that may be.
- 8:43Speaker 14: I mean, she came in, We hugged me, kids, me,
- 8:48she watched me, uh, you know, do my little heights
- 8:51on GTA, you know, look at my game whatnot?
- 8:53Speaker 5: I mean, we have some more family guy.
- 8:56Speaker 9: Okay, it was fine.
- 8:58Speaker 5: When she left.
- 8:58Speaker 8: Did you did you see did you see her leave?
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 9:04Speaker 3: And I say yeah, because I mean I opened the
- 9:06garage door she left, So I mean, okay, the garage door.
- 9:09Speaker 10: All right.
- 9:10Speaker 1: At first glance, Marshall appears far more willing to help
- 9:14than Alexis's family hinted towards, but as he recounts his
- 9:18last encounter with Alexis, his demeanor is oddly detached. At times,
- 9:23even attempting to make light of this situation. It's the
- 9:26kind of behavior that doesn't go unnoticed. But before wrapping
- 9:29up the interview, the officer would ask one of the
- 9:32strangest questions possible. I had a moment like this, Do
- 9:37you have a cart?
- 9:41Speaker 2: How are you two?
- 9:41Speaker 5: You got to day?
- 9:43Speaker 7: How do y'all been together?
- 9:45Speaker 5: Like three going on four years?
- 9:46Speaker 7: Okay, all right, I'm gonna show you.
- 9:49Speaker 5: You got a strapped down on the house. No, I know, No,
- 9:54I know you have to ask.
- 9:55Speaker 8: Ye I have, and I appreciate you trying to be
- 9:58in light of it.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But no, on that strange note, the interview reps and
- 10:05the officer calls his sergeant, only to learn that while
- 10:08this conversation was taking place, a major discovery had just
- 10:12been made a few miles away. On a residential street
- 10:16in Antioch, Alexis's family comes across their daughter's car while
- 10:20organizing their own search and spreading the word on social media.
- 10:24Police are immediately informed of this discovery and the car
- 10:28is towed and seized for forensic analysis. Inside the car,
- 10:32some troubling details quickly stand out. The keys are still
- 10:36in the ignition, the door is unlocked, and personal items
- 10:40are missing. After removing and Analyzing the car's infotainment unit,
- 10:44investigators are able to track Alexis's precise movements before her disappearance,
- 10:49and just twelve minutes before the car was abandoned, it
- 10:52had been at Marshall's house, not her friend Maria's, as
- 10:55he had previously implied. These findings, along with the alleged
- 11:00death threat, prompt investigators to move Marshall from a person
- 11:03of interest to the primary suspect in Alexis's disappearance. The
- 11:09following day, two detectives arrive at Marshall's house, suspecting he
- 11:13is the last person to see her alive and may
- 11:15have been withholding vital information. However, they're also here for
- 11:19something else, something that will catch him completely off guard.
- 11:24Speaker 15: Hey, I'm in Detective Minis Real. Okay, are you Alexis's
- 11:28uh boyfriend?
- 11:30Speaker 5: Okay, what's your name? Marshall? Marshall?
- 11:32Speaker 15: Okay, Yeah, we're still looking for Have you heard it
- 11:34from her at all?
- 11:34Speaker 5: Or I have not.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I've been trying to call her, I've been sex seen him,
- 11:38specs getting delivered. My phone calls are going straight to voicemail.
- 11:42Speaker 5: Gotcha?
- 11:43Speaker 16: Okay?
- 11:44Speaker 15: Well yeah, basically at this point, like I think this
- 11:47is the last place that we know that she was at, right,
- 11:50and so we're just obviously that's where we're kind of.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Kean in on this area.
- 11:53Speaker 3: You know, I understand, And like I was telling her mom, like, hey,
- 11:56I saw her, this is the last time.
- 11:58Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, And I just I'm worried, right, and it's.
- 12:07Speaker 3: She's missing, and that just means that she's missing. It
- 12:11doesn't necessarily something happened to her. So I'm really trying
- 12:14not to let my mind wander. Her friends have I'm
- 12:19not going to say they've been putting me under scrutiny,
- 12:21but they make they're making me feel like I get something, and.
- 12:24Speaker 15: I yetime boyfriend.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Right, and that's what I'm saying.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Everybody hands stressed different, you know, and so I just
- 12:33I just want to rule everything out.
- 12:34Speaker 15: Anything weird to happen here, so you know what I mean.
- 12:36Then we can move on to, hey, let's go look
- 12:39another area and see where she's got. You know, I understand,
- 12:42you are you cool if we go inside and look
- 12:43around real quick?
- 12:45Speaker 3: It's not my house, is my stepdad's. So yeah, I
- 12:51mean I could call him the fast and see.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Clearly uncomfortable with the request Marshall agrees to call his stepfather,
- 12:59the homeowner of the house, and does they wait for
- 13:01his approval. Detectives would slowly begin to suspect there's something
- 13:06inside the house. Neither Marshall nor his stepfather wants them
- 13:11to find.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Hy dad a less us went missing, and the police
- 13:17just want to go through the house.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Sure that everything's fine? Is that okay?
- 13:22Speaker 8: Okay?
- 13:24Speaker 5: He said, one of you for going, but he would
- 13:29like the other one to stay out here. No problem. Sure,
- 13:32ye blast that or anything I go. Yeah, either you
- 13:35want we went.
- 13:38Speaker 17: That.
- 13:39Speaker 5: What's your dad's name, Leslie? Leslie? Okay, and that's one
- 13:42you were talking to on the phone. All right, he said,
- 13:44one of us will come in cool.
- 13:48Speaker 15: Thanks.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Do you want to leave the door off? Yeah?
- 13:52Speaker 8: Off around.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Anything of her that's here.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I mean there might be something cause actually left over.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Okay, it's going to be in my room. My rooms.
- 14:08Speaker 4: That's why my room. I know, Like I said, it happens, bro,
- 14:23you guys drink together. I'm assuming yeah the house.
- 14:29Speaker 1: As the officer moves through the house, Marshall's room quickly
- 14:32stands out, left in complete disarray, and as he inspects
- 14:36the room further, little does he know this very place
- 14:40holds subtle clues and will soon become a crime scene.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Is there upstairs? And then this is other people's rooms?
- 15:00Speaker 8: You want to go on that?
- 15:07Speaker 5: All right, I'm gonna close this door. Nothing out of ordinary.
- 15:16His room is an absolute mess.
- 15:19Speaker 18: In he does.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Focusing on the mess, the officer overlooks the attic place
- 15:25hiding a terrifying secret, and it's no accident. Marshall has
- 15:30been guiding him through certain areas, carefully steering him away
- 15:34from others. But despite the searge turning up nothing, officers
- 15:38aren't done with him just yet. There's something else they
- 15:41want to ask.
- 15:42Speaker 5: So no contact from her, none whatsoever?
- 15:45Speaker 4: Okay, phone's been off, you try to call her? I'm
- 15:47assuming indeed, Uh, do you mind hanging up with him
- 15:51real quick so we can.
- 15:53Speaker 5: I'm gonna ask you something.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Would you be willing to give us your cell phone
- 15:56for a forensic download?
- 15:58Speaker 15: Oh?
- 15:59Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, so I'm able to do all that stuff.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Well, it just shows me.
- 16:04Speaker 4: All the information on your phone for a certain period
- 16:06of time, shows like, hey, it was the.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Phone here the whole time.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Well yeah, stuff like that, okay, And then I would
- 16:13just have you sign like a consent form, okay, and
- 16:16then you can bring it down, sign the consent form
- 16:19down at the PD and then I take your pass
- 16:21code and then I would do it that way.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Okay.
- 16:24Speaker 3: They want they want to do a FREENSIC download, just
- 16:26to make sure that you know my phone is where
- 16:29I said it was, I where I said.
- 16:30Speaker 5: I was, but she was still here when he got home.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Interestingly, detectives not only gain access to Marshall's phone, but
- 16:39also learned that his stepfather was allegedly at the house
- 16:42at the same time Alexis was there, so they make
- 16:45a note to speak with the homeowner as soon as
- 16:47possible to see if his account aligns with Marshalls. Shortly afterwards,
- 16:51Marshall gets into his stepfather's car and follows the officers
- 16:54to the station. As he drives, officers ahead noticed something strange.
- 16:59He appeared anxious, swerving slightly with something large in the
- 17:04back of his car, obstructing his view. In reality, Marshall
- 17:08isn't just nervous. He's just realized he's driving straight to
- 17:12the police station with a car full of incriminating evidence.
- 17:17About ten minutes later, Marshall arrives at the station, trying
- 17:21to steady himself, quietly questioning why he brought this car
- 17:25in the first place, and the second he steps out,
- 17:28he realizes the officers are onto him.
- 17:31Speaker 5: You know what you've all happen?
- 17:35Speaker 3: Yeah, blankets and whatnot? Wait do you actually have to
- 17:38search it or can you just look around?
- 17:39Speaker 2: Because this isn't this is my.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Dad's car and little I mean, I kind of just
- 17:43want to lift the gate so I can see inside.
- 17:45Speaker 2: You know.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Again, it's not my car, it's my dad's. And you
- 17:49have my phone, so idie, you know, I'll open the
- 17:53gate for you though, so you can look grit.
- 18:05Speaker 5: We went to the driving so I try to give
- 18:10room me some water. I mean, you can look in
- 18:12the bag. That's her chili cheese steak.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Okay, any of this hurts no, because we would like
- 18:20to collect the DNA sample from her, right, so we
- 18:23have a reference on file.
- 18:24Speaker 5: So was she back here?
- 18:26Speaker 13: Uh?
- 18:27Speaker 19: Yeah, like I don't so is any of this like
- 18:32I don't, I don't know. Would you mind if we
- 18:37like took aket to test it? I would because yeah,
- 18:44And does she normally sit up in the front seat?
- 18:52Speaker 8: Were not?
- 18:52Speaker 5: You don't want us to look under the mic?
- 18:54Speaker 2: And so what.
- 18:57Speaker 5: She would like to live. I don't want to think
- 19:00I have a dead body.
- 19:01Speaker 2: No.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yeah, OK, so this is your step out here, real dad,
- 19:08My stepdad?
- 19:09Speaker 5: Gotcha?
- 19:11Speaker 2: Cool?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Naturally, Marshall's unwillingness to show what's in the trunk immediately
- 19:20raises red flags for the officers. Once it's opened, they
- 19:24find multiple blankets, pillows, and food waste, with Marshall insisting
- 19:28that he and Alexis use the car as a bed.
- 19:31At the drive in. With suspicion mounting, they get Marshall
- 19:34to sign a content form, download the data from his phone,
- 19:37and then return it to him, and as they let
- 19:40him go, detectives believe the contents of Marshall's phone may
- 19:44finally reveal what he's been hiding, unaware that this entire
- 19:48investigation is about to start going downhill. The next day,
- 19:54has investigators prepared to review the data from Marshall's phone,
- 19:58they noticed the download process has failed, leaving them with nothing.
- 20:02Realizing Marshall's willingness to cooperate may already be reaching its limits,
- 20:06detectives decide not to push any further for now, and
- 20:10instead turn their attention elsewhere. There's still one person they
- 20:14haven't spoken to yet, Marshall's stepfather, the homeowner, who was
- 20:19allegedly inside the house the same night Alexis disappeared. If
- 20:23something happened to her that night, he may have witnessed it.
- 20:26With that in mind, they drive back to the house
- 20:29to speak with him, where they'll begin to suspect that
- 20:32not everyone wants them to discover the truth behind Alexis's disappearance.
- 20:37Speaker 20: Hey, mister Clark, Hey, we're just trying to follow up
- 20:41on everything going on with Alexis.
- 20:44Speaker 5: We haven't talked about We haven't talked to you yet.
- 20:47Speaker 20: Marshall had said that you were here when Alexis is
- 20:50here on Wednesday night.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Did you see Alexis here on the twenty six? Yeah,
- 20:55you are come.
- 20:59Speaker 8: She's not I see, I don't you don't recall seeing
- 21:01her car here? Not do that?
- 21:03Speaker 5: And you don't you don't remember seeing her talking to
- 21:06her that night? No, I didn't see her there that
- 21:09night that I.
- 21:11Speaker 21: Was Marshall holding up with all this. He's she's upset
- 21:15for sure. I mean, I mean just now finding out
- 21:18this girlfriend's coming up missing. I mean I found out
- 21:21yesterday with the note coming in a flyer. Oh yeah,
- 21:27saying that she's messing them way, what the hell's going on?
- 21:29Speaker 11: What was she?
- 21:30Speaker 5: Like?
- 21:30Speaker 2: Is just.
- 21:33Speaker 20: An everyday person, like yeah, I mean, she's just a
- 21:37good young lady. She never brought drama to your house
- 21:40or anything like that, or a couple I mean aside
- 21:43from couple of yeah, I mean they they were argued
- 21:47in front of right, but like, she never.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Brought any outside bs to your house or anything like that.
- 21:53Speaker 20: Is Marshall round, I know one of the defectives of friend,
- 21:56Uh reach him and he had to return to his
- 21:59phone call.
- 22:00Speaker 21: Marshall's not here, his mom and his mom don't really
- 22:07I kind of say like that.
- 22:08Speaker 1: With this information, police now know where to look for
- 22:12Marshall next, his mother's house. What catches the officers off guard, however,
- 22:17is Leslie's refusal to confirm being with Marshall and Alexis
- 22:20the night she disappeared, directly contradicting what Marshall had previously told. Investigators.
- 22:26Now faced with more questions than answers, officers leave to
- 22:30figure out their next move. From this point forward, the
- 22:33investigation into Alexis's disappearance quietly begins to shift in a
- 22:37much darker direction. During the next several days, police visit
- 22:49Marshall's mother, Alicia Clark, looking for her son, but suspiciously,
- 22:53she claims she hasn't seen him since the night his girlfriend,
- 22:57Alexis vanished. By now, investigators begin to consider a troubling
- 23:02possibility Marshall may be on the run and his family
- 23:06may even be covering for him. But their biggest piece
- 23:09of evidence is still to come. Just as the investigation
- 23:12seems to stall, CCTV footage is recovered from the root
- 23:15Alicia's car took the night she vanished. For roughly twelve minutes,
- 23:21the car is seen speeding from Marshall's home to the
- 23:24residential area where it's eventually abandoned. A masked figure is
- 23:29seen stepping out of the car, noticeably larger than Alexis
- 23:32with a more masculine build. As detectives begin tracking the
- 23:36figure's movements through nearby cameras, they watch it move calmly
- 23:39for over a mile until it arrives somewhere completely unexpected,
- 23:44Marshall's mother's house. This development makes investigators certain that the
- 23:49masked figure was none other than their prime suspect Marshall,
- 23:53and with that, an emergency search warrant for his home
- 23:56is secured immediately on February first, to more than a
- 24:00dozen officers arrive at the house, convinced there is far
- 24:03more inside than Marshall originally.
- 24:06Speaker 10: Let them see, Oh beauty, search for open up.
- 24:15Speaker 5: A rift the door? Check the door. Yeah, let's press Corse. Yes,
- 24:30we need that pry bar.
- 24:36Speaker 19: Ope we.
- 24:39Speaker 10: Come out with you, d up.
- 24:43Speaker 5: Pick the left, Check the left. I got a door
- 24:45on the right. Check that door. Let's Claire up with Benny.
- 24:53Speaker 19: Come out your answer?
- 24:55Speaker 1: Search what.
- 25:07Speaker 5: Check that Claire.
- 25:14Speaker 1: As officers moved through the house, neither Marshall nor his
- 25:18stepfather are anywhere to be found. But then as they
- 25:21prepared to enter the garage, it doesn't take long for
- 25:24a vile discovery to emerge.
- 25:29Speaker 5: It good body, yep, good ahead?
- 25:41Speaker 7: Yeah right here, Yeah, yeah, right in here, I got
- 25:44a break wift yep, a this yep.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Multiple officers begin to notice a distinct smell, one they
- 25:57believe to be the odor of a decomposing body. The
- 26:01scent appears to be coming from the laundry room and
- 26:04leads up towards the attic. Some officers prepare to investigate
- 26:09and brace themselves for the worst.
- 26:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks undisturbed. I agree.
- 26:17Speaker 8: Open before I don't know.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Yeah, this point straight out to the garage. So that's
- 26:25the thing, is, like, we gotta check crol space. Anybody
- 26:31check inside that the shuv or take a peek.
- 26:33Speaker 8: Inside, said, I didn't see anything that's locked.
- 26:34Speaker 16: Okay, Scott, I'm gonna have this door closed for a second.
- 26:42Maybe there's pathways where they walked for electrical but I
- 26:45don't see.
- 26:46Speaker 5: No footprints, no drag marks.
- 26:49Speaker 16: I mean that's just you can see where they're walking, okay,
- 26:51doing something, but I love.
- 26:54Speaker 15: Hey, uh, the smeuths something right where where you're at
- 26:57Logan like there's a bits coming from the bed kind
- 27:01of yeah.
- 27:01Speaker 7: Once we hit this area and start walking to the garage,
- 27:03is where I smelled it.
- 27:09Speaker 8: Beer.
- 27:11Speaker 12: Yeah you see look at all.
- 27:25Speaker 5: Right, let's uh.
- 27:30Speaker 1: After following the scent, officers come up empty handed, but
- 27:34they do uncover what appears to be dried blood. After
- 27:37clearing the entire house, officers are still unable to locate
- 27:41the source of the smell, so a canine unit is
- 27:43called in. If human remains are hidden somewhere on the property,
- 27:48this dog may be their best bet on finding them.
- 27:51Speaker 5: I don't know if I got a big whiff right
- 27:52in the launder room. I don't know, like.
- 27:59Speaker 22: Worse that, but that is the pedd and on that
- 28:16the behaviors peple you tickle, ay.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Allah run.
- 28:27Speaker 5: And then that's the attached garage.
- 28:29Speaker 22: Oh my, going on, yes.
- 28:37Speaker 8: A good girl.
- 28:40Speaker 5: Do you guys say that?
- 28:40Speaker 15: Or oh I don't know.
- 28:43Speaker 5: We didn't bring that in. You saw up the wall here.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's just checking odor.
- 28:49Speaker 22: As I said, you've worked can so we didn't get
- 28:51final and that was the kind of thing where it's like,
- 28:53I have some weird.
- 28:55Speaker 9: Odor, but it's not all of her behaviors, which was
- 28:58more what we had there.
- 28:59Speaker 22: And of course you and I there could be you
- 29:01could have vacuumed up a tissue that had bloody knows
- 29:03are okay, good girl?
- 29:08Speaker 7: All right, let's all we go on.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Somewhat surprisingly, the handler isn't fully convinced the dog has
- 29:15detected human remains. However, several indications suggest it has picked
- 29:20up on something suspicious, as it repeatedly returns to Marshall's room,
- 29:24sits in one spot while staring at a handler, and
- 29:27most alarmingly, begins clawing at the wall, a sign the
- 29:31odor may be coming from the attic but even after
- 29:34multiple additional searches and with more canine units brought in,
- 29:38officers are left with troubling yet inconclusive results small traces
- 29:44of blood, the presence of bleach and other cleaning supplies,
- 29:47and a missing shower curtain. Following these discoveries, officers secure
- 29:52the scene and begin working to obtain real time location
- 29:54data for Marshall's phone, now fully suspecting they have a
- 29:57homicide on their hands. Over the next several weeks, officers
- 30:04are seemingly no closer to finding Marshall. Neither his mother
- 30:08nor his stepfather appear willing to cooperate any further. But
- 30:12every time the investigation seems like it's losing momentum, Alexis
- 30:15Gabe's family keeps pushing forward, pressuring police to find their
- 30:19daughter and bring her justice. That pressure soon begins to
- 30:23pay off when investigators finally obtain a real time location
- 30:27warrant for Marshall's phone and discover he's moved to Vaugaville, California,
- 30:31roughly an hour and a half from his home. After
- 30:34a quick check, they find out exactly where that location
- 30:37leads his sister's house, so officers quickly head to her address,
- 30:41hoping to find Marshall there.
- 30:46Speaker 5: Arianna, that's nice, obviously, you know we're right.
- 30:51Speaker 3: I do.
- 30:52Speaker 8: It's the way he got here. He was awesome while
- 30:57he was here. That's when I saw the first.
- 30:59Speaker 11: Flyer for Alexis, and that's when I started putting the
- 31:03pieces together what could be. I said, get your tomorrow,
- 31:07you gotta be gone. I want nothing to do with this,
- 31:10and his gun was underneath.
- 31:13Speaker 5: I lost what was their relationship with.
- 31:17Speaker 11: Marshal, so it got toxic over the last year and
- 31:22a half. He was a lot more torn up about
- 31:25them breaking up than about her being missing.
- 31:27Speaker 8: I will say that very futably.
- 31:30Speaker 11: Looking back on it, my brother does have sociopath the
- 31:33narcissistic tendencies about himself.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Your mom and Marshall are curs right.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yes.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Do you think that she's helped him out in any
- 31:40way once she get in trouble?
- 31:43Speaker 5: I hope not.
- 31:44Speaker 20: I mean I hope in the end of all this
- 31:47she'll be as cooperative as you are, because ultimately your
- 31:50brother made the choice that he made.
- 31:53Speaker 5: So do you think he went to Vegas?
- 31:56Speaker 18: No?
- 31:57Speaker 5: I believe.
- 31:58Speaker 11: I believe this is a number that he's So if
- 32:00you guys want to take it, that's fine.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Most worryingly for officers, Arianna seems to suspect someone else,
- 32:07maybe helping Marshall evade police. However, Arianna also gives them
- 32:12something significant Marshall's new phone number, so after wrapping up
- 32:16the interview, investigators move quickly to track his location. This
- 32:20is when they discover that Marshall's phone is pinging all
- 32:22the way back to his mother, Alicia Clark's house. Up
- 32:25to this point, Alicia has been telling police she doesn't
- 32:29know where Marshall is. Now, detectives begin to suspect she's
- 32:32lying and may even be actively hiding from police. Over
- 32:38the next few hours, police secure an emergency search warrant
- 32:41for Alicia's house. Officers rush to the location, knowing full
- 32:45well Marshall could disappear again at any moment, But little
- 32:49do they know the lead they're following is actually a setup.
- 32:57Speaker 5: All the boy search.
- 32:58Speaker 10: War come a door for me, Thank you.
- 33:20Speaker 23: Warrant anybody else inside?
- 33:31Speaker 1: After escorting Alicia and her daughter outside, officers move in
- 33:35to search the house, but they find no one else inside.
- 33:38They do, however, spot a working camera outside the home.
- 33:42One they immediately begin trying to obtain a warrant for
- 33:45Despite Marshall's absence, the forensics team insists that his phone
- 33:49is still actively pinging inside the house. By now, investigators
- 33:54know something isn't adding up, so they prepare to question Alicia,
- 33:58starting with the very re in there here in the
- 34:01first place, of course, the best place.
- 34:09Speaker 18: So we're obviously here for a reason, and there's a
- 34:12couple of reasons. We're here for Marshall Tunn. So we
- 34:17know it's here, but we don't want to tear your
- 34:20house part too much, So if you can direct us
- 34:23to it, so I don't have like mess anything up,
- 34:25Like where is the phone?
- 34:28Speaker 17: It's upstairs in my closet and the green wine.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Sure, I have a question. What do you guys need
- 34:38it for?
- 34:39Speaker 18: You guys phoned it, so the cell phone thing they
- 34:42went and did the download that some of the files
- 34:46got screwed up, so we don't have everything, so we
- 34:51need that. And plus we know that he's had the
- 34:53phone after that, so that's the evidence.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So Strangely, Alicia appears unusually core show with the detectives
- 35:01despite having her house breached. She's even admitted to holding
- 35:05a wanted suspect's phone, yet treats it as if it's
- 35:08nothing serious. By now, investigators are more than suspicious of
- 35:13her involvement. They're convinced she not only knows where Marshall lives,
- 35:16but more importantly, what he did to alexas.
- 35:21Speaker 5: He's obviously not here. So you know where Marshall is.
- 35:24Speaker 2: You have to go.
- 35:25Speaker 17: I do not know. I do not I have intention.
- 35:28I told him, do not tell me. It's just the situation.
- 35:32Speaker 8: I don't want to know.
- 35:34Speaker 4: So you're distancing yourself, Oh god, oh not at all.
- 35:40Speaker 2: I just know this. This is this is who we are.
- 35:46Speaker 5: I mean, and we don't believe that.
- 35:48Speaker 8: Yeah, we just they're not.
- 35:51Speaker 2: You guys are just doing it.
- 35:53Speaker 5: We have to. We have to try our best to
- 35:55get answers right.
- 35:56Speaker 8: So I'm definitely not distancing myself. Okay, that's not the reason.
- 36:03Speaker 17: What you know, I know that the two of them
- 36:10had a solid relationship. I mean for Valentine's Day, he.
- 36:17Speaker 8: Wanted to get her an edible arrangement. I couldn't afford.
- 36:20Speaker 17: It, and so he went and got the chocolate, all
- 36:24of the stuff built for an edible.
- 36:26Speaker 8: Arrangement like that. I mean, that's the kind of guy
- 36:30he is. I've told him since he was younger. When
- 36:33you're dating, you want to make sure that you are
- 36:37so good to her. She's going to be comparing every.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Other day to you right away. This description of Marshall
- 36:47doesn't quite align with what investigators believe about their suspect,
- 36:50and especially given his sister's earlier claims that he's a
- 36:53narcissist and a sociopath. If Alicia is fully aware of
- 36:57her son's alleged crime, then defending his character like this
- 37:01is not only disturbing, it's something most people would find
- 37:05nearly impossible to do. Sensing this may be more difficult
- 37:10for her than she's letting on, detectives decide to shift
- 37:12their approach, appealing to her emotions, hoping that if this
- 37:16is all in act, it's about to break because.
- 37:19Speaker 18: I mean, obviously we're still looking. She's still out there somewhere.
- 37:25Speaker 4: And things don't like yeah, yeah, it's hard to look
- 37:28at that family in the face and tell them, hey, look,
- 37:30we don't really have anything to tell you.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Have you guys thought about maybe she was human?
- 37:36Speaker 18: So I've heard that some people posting stuff on the
- 37:41Internet and stuff of a lot of people are not
- 37:45They don't have a good grasp on how human works, right,
- 37:49You can't just snatch up a twenty four year old
- 37:52on her seventy pound female. I mean, I'm just going
- 37:56to be straight up, but didn't think.
- 37:58Speaker 5: You have a bit Marshall had anything to do.
- 38:01Speaker 18: Yeah, even if there's evidence that would suggest that he
- 38:07has something to do with it.
- 38:08Speaker 8: You guys would have to prove it beyond.
- 38:10Speaker 7: The reason obviously.
- 38:13Speaker 18: I don't want to leave you thinking that fil the
- 38:16lack of a better term, just I know, Oh god, no, no,
- 38:21there's a reason. I mean, I can only leave you
- 38:26with that.
- 38:27Speaker 5: I can't.
- 38:28Speaker 8: I can't.
- 38:31Speaker 7: Tell me.
- 38:32Speaker 5: I don't want I don't want you to like to
- 38:35just like I just said.
- 38:36Speaker 18: I mean, we've we've done We've been both agencies here
- 38:39and the Die's offices that we've all been working on
- 38:42us for three months now.
- 38:43Speaker 5: We've looked every which way.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Despite the detective's best efforts, Alicia doesn't appear to budge,
- 38:50and the worst part is that her dismissive attitude seems
- 38:53to work. Although officers inside managed to locate Marshall's phone,
- 38:57that they find it's been wiped completely clean and with
- 39:00nothing concrete tying Alicia to the disappearance investigators are once
- 39:04again forced to leave empty handed, with nobody, no confession,
- 39:09and no idea where Marshall may have gone. How Alexis's
- 39:12case slowly starts going cold. Months go by with no
- 39:18new leads on Marshall's whereabouts, but then investigators finally secure
- 39:23a warrant and obtain the CCTV footage from his mother's house,
- 39:27and as detectives start analyzing the footage, they begin to
- 39:30understand how Marshall managed to stay one step ahead of
- 39:33investigators for so long. Inside these large plastic bags. Investigators
- 39:41believe our Alisha's remains and suspect Marshall's mother was aware
- 39:46of it. Following these developments, investigators reach out to Marshall's
- 39:50sister and learn he has a friend at an apartment
- 39:53complex in Kent and maybe hiding there. Using travel records,
- 39:57CCTV footage, and anonymous tips, a zero in on a
- 40:01specific location, the Skyview thirty three to twenty two apartments.
- 40:05On June first, more than four months after Alexis Gabe disappeared,
- 40:09the task Force moves in to serve a murder warrant
- 40:12and finally arrest Marshall. But as they arrive and prepare
- 40:15to breach. Nothing about this operation is about to go
- 40:19as planned.
- 40:53Speaker 24: Your God, Yeah, came to the treath of knife.
- 41:08Speaker 1: After emerging with a kitchen knife, Marshall is shot multiple
- 41:12times by three officers. Despite immediate medical aid, he is
- 41:16pronounced dead at the scene. The following day, Paul Beard,
- 41:21chief of the Oakley Police Department, holds a press conference
- 41:24announcing that Alexis Gabe's case is now officially being treated
- 41:28as a homicide and that Marshall Curtis Jones had been
- 41:31charged with her murder before being shot and killed. But
- 41:35any real sense of closure for Alexis's family would not
- 41:39come until much much later. On November three, while metal
- 41:45detecting near Jackson Road in Plymouth, a local resident discovers
- 41:48what he believes to be human remains and immediately calls
- 41:52nine one one. When officers arrive, they're left speechless. Scattered
- 41:56across the mountains are the remains of a young woman.
- 42:00A forensic odontologist is brought in and, using dental records,
- 42:03confirms the remains are those of Alexis Gabe. In the aftermath,
- 42:09her family expresses a mix of devastation and relief. They
- 42:14continue pushing for charges against Marshall's mother and told memorials
- 42:18in Alexis's honor. To this day, Alexis's family continues demanding
- 42:22justice and launching a petition criticizing the Contra Costa County
- 42:26District Attorney's Office for its handling of the case and
- 42:28calling for stronger accountability for victims' families. But despite these efforts,
- 42:33Marshall's mother is only temporarily detained without sufficient evidence. She
- 42:38is never charged as an accomplice, and the same is
- 42:41true for the rest of Marshall's relatives, something that continues
- 42:45to infuriate Alexis's family to this day. As of now,
- 42:48there is still no definitive motive for Alexis's murder, only
- 42:53that their relationship was deeply toxic, and perhaps when Alexis
- 42:57finally decided to break up with him, marsh made a final,
- 43:01irreversible decision. If he couldn't have her, then no one
- 43:04could
