- 0:00So autism and Halloween can be super difficult.
- 0:02Here's my essential guide. Let's get into it.
- 0:05Don't go anywhere guys. What's going on?
- 0:07Welcome back to the aspy world. My name is Danny.
- 0:08I have autism and ADHD and I absolutely love helping autistic
- 0:12people reach their full potential.

- 0:22daily videos I upload for a day because I'm just a crazy dude.
- 0:25I love Halloween, Probably one of my favorite holidays and on
- 0:27my son loves Halloween. I know so many people who just.
- 0:30I love Halloween because it's like one of those cool holidays,
- 0:32right? It's just not to get to do
- 0:33crazy. Stephanie Candy, It's not always
- 0:35easy for artistic people to enjoy Halloween.
- 0:37I know here it's kind of crazy. We probably get maybe 100 to
- 0:40200, you know, trick or treaters on the night coming here.
- 0:44And you know, we decorate the house and there's a whole lot of
- 0:46stuff that goes into it. So that being said, it's not
- 0:49always easy to navigate around what to do in Halloween, how to
- 0:52prep and how to prepare. This is why I'm giving you this
- 0:54video. So the first thing I would say
- 0:56is that you need to choose the right costume.
- 0:58Now this means you're going to choose a costume that's not
- 1:01triggering for yourself or your for for the child that you have
- 1:04on the awesome spectrum. It's century pleasing, so the
- 1:07material is century pleasing. You're not going to get
- 1:09irritated by being too hot in it.
- 1:11It's not too fuzzy, it doesn't make noises, doesn't light up.
- 1:14All these things have to be come into consideration when you're
- 1:16picking your costume. If you're going to make it
- 1:18yourself, maybe have your child or yourself.
- 1:20You make the costume so that you know exactly what's going into
- 1:24it, how you can get out of it easy, you know, you know the way
- 1:26around it. Also, I would definitely say
- 1:29wear it a couple all the time. She was around the house before
- 1:31actually putting it on for Halloween.
- 1:32You need to get used to something before using it.
- 1:34And I did this last year. I was a dragon.
- 1:36My whole family were all Dragons and but we all got COVID just
- 1:40before Halloween. Even though I was better, my son
- 1:43was better. My partner, she still had COVID.
- 1:45So it was just me and my son going out as Dragons on
- 1:47Halloween. It was really good.
- 1:48It was really warm. But I was so glad that I wore
- 1:52the dragon outfit in the house first for a little bit, because
- 1:55if I hadn't done that, I would have been a bit kind of like,
- 1:58oh, it was just, it was was quite a hot uniform.
- 2:01So I knew that I didn't have to wear shorts underneath or a
- 2:03T-shirt. I just put the thing on.
- 2:05But if I hadn't done that, I would definitely put shorts and
- 2:06T-shirt on and I would be like so hot walking like the entire
- 2:09block, just, you know, collecting candy.
- 2:12And we had so much candies to bring back.
- 2:14So definitely make sure that costume, you know, preparation
- 2:18is #1. OK, so the next thing is
- 2:19preparing for trick or treating. Now this can be done in both
- 2:22ways that you prepare yourself that you know that kids are
- 2:25going to come to the door. What we did after a certain time
- 2:27is we left a bowl of like candy and sweets and stuff on a table
- 2:30with a with like a scary skeleton saying please take one
- 2:33and this camera is all over the place.
- 2:34So like it's not like the kids could have trashed out lawn or
- 2:36anything like that or a car. And so preparing for that was
- 2:39probably super interesting because it allowed me to relax
- 2:44knowing that I wasn't going to get disturbed after a certain
- 2:46time because I prepared. I prepared that.
- 2:47Yes, I'll until the daughter trick or treat is up until like
- 2:508:00 at night. And then everybody after that.
- 2:52We'll just kind of have to deal with the fact that it's late
- 2:54enough that, you know, we'll be chilling out for our evening and
- 2:57watching the Halloween scary movies.
- 2:58And then the kids can just take the candy as they come.
- 3:01Because again, we live in a very busy state.
- 3:05There's a lot of kids here and there's a lot of trick or
- 3:07treated around. If you have a child and you want
- 3:09to prepare them for for Halloween, if they're on the
- 3:11autism spectrum, then I would definitely watch videos and
- 3:13trick or treating, how it's done, the language, the lingo,
- 3:16what is meant by trick or treat, maybe a little bit about the
- 3:18history of it. The more context and detail you
- 3:20can give somebody about this, the more ease they will have and
- 3:23actually following through and doing those things because
- 3:24they'll feel more like relaxed because they know more about it.
- 3:27They'll be more in control of what that is.
- 3:30And so trick or treating can be really fun.
- 3:32But also you just want to make sure that you're doing it right.
- 3:34Right. OK.
- 3:35So the next one is sensory considerations.
- 3:37Now this is basically about your house and where you're planning
- 3:40to go. Is the environment that you live
- 3:42in going to be decorated for Halloween?
- 3:44And if so, is that going to be century pleasing for century
- 3:47seekers or is it going to be sensory, you know, annoying for
- 3:50people who are sensory avoiders? Now I would highly recommend
- 3:53checking out some examples of like sensory muted houses for
- 3:57Halloween or awesome friendly houses of Halloween on Google.
- 4:00And you probably find a bunch of different people who have made
- 4:02soft lights, not scaring, loud noises, no disco lights, you
- 4:06know, all that kind of stuff. And also the environment you
- 4:09going to go visit. Are you planning to go to a
- 4:10party? Well, think about the
- 4:12decorations are going to have that.
- 4:13Think about the, I don't know, the lighting or the sounds and
- 4:16the music and stuff. Just prepare.
- 4:17Prepare yourself or your child for those events in that area.
- 4:21Guys, I just want to take this short message break to tell you
- 4:24that I want to thank today's sponsor Brillia for sponsoring
- 4:27today's video. Now, Brillia is a company I've
- 4:29been working with. I'm taking this homeopathic
- 4:32medication for two years now. Now Brilliant is a non
- 4:36prescription based homeopathic medication which means it's
- 4:38supernatural. It's dead awesome and I think it
- 4:40works really, really well for me now.
- 4:41It definitely helps with enhancing clarity, improving
- 4:44concentration and attention, which is what I need, and also
- 4:47reduces anxiety, stress, impulsivity and irritability,
- 4:50which is pretty awesome. People with ADHD now they do
- 4:52want for adults and kids but but I would definitely recommend
- 4:56checking out with your doctor first.
- 4:57Make sure it's safe for you to take if you're on anything else
- 4:59or just checking out anyway because it's always handy.
- 5:01Now Brilliant is available from the link in my description of
- 5:04this video or in the link in my bio.
- 5:06Depends where you're watching this video.
- 5:08You can actually use a code ask B-15 to get 15% off as a little
- 5:12bit of a help from me to you, but yeah, it's awesome.
- 5:16Anyway, let's get back to the video.
- 5:17OK, so the next thing I would say is communicate with your
- 5:19neighbours and friends. Now, if you have neighbours in
- 5:21the area, you know if you're going to be trick or treating to
- 5:23just your neighbours, we'll make them aware that maybe your child
- 5:26on the auto inspection might need some help.
- 5:28Or you may need some help if you know you're going to a friend's
- 5:31house or a party. If you're going to your family's
- 5:33house for a party. If your neighbours are having a
- 5:35street party or next door is having a party.
- 5:37Make them aware of your needs and your worries and your
- 5:39concerns, because they may be able to accommodate some of
- 5:42those things as well. Because at the end of the day,
- 5:44nobody's evil, right? Every hundred months have a good
- 5:46time. So as long as you communicate
- 5:47clearly to people what your needs are and what you kind of
- 5:50maybe would need help with, then they're going to be able to
- 5:53accommodate that. I can guarantee see that people
- 5:55are just wanting you to communicate a bit more.
- 5:57This is super vital and super awesome.
- 5:59OK. So the last thing I'll talk
- 6:01about here is setting realistic expectations.
- 6:03You can't expect that everybody is going to just be all quiet on
- 6:06Halloween. I mean, it's just, it's
- 6:07Halloween, isn't it? Everyone's going to have a good
- 6:09time, everyone going to be partying and doing all these
- 6:10things. So you have to set a realistic
- 6:12expectation, expect that, yes, it's going to take a little
- 6:15longer to get around the streets if you're kind of avoiding
- 6:17certain houses. Oh, it's going to take a little
- 6:19bit longer to go see friends if you're having to kind of avoid
- 6:23certain busier times, etcetera. So always think about your
- 6:27expectations for how the night is going to go or how the day is
- 6:29going to go, because a lot of people do parties during the day
- 6:32as well as the night. So just set a realistic goal,
- 6:35set a realistic expectation and that would be super awesome.
- 6:38Now guys, if you have anything to add to help this community,
- 6:40pop in a comment down below and read every single one.
- 6:43Give this video a thumbs up and share it if you think this is
- 6:46golden for somebody to get help. All right.
