- 0:04- Hello and welcome to the Pop Culture Junkie podcast.
- 0:08I am Shauna here once again with my fellow jjunkie.
- 0:12Olivia, hi.
- 0:14- Hi babies.
- 0:16It's so nice to see you, but I wish we were still in person.
- 0:20- I know.
- 0:21Oh my God, Olivia came to visit last weekend
- 0:24just for like two days or a day.
- 0:28It wasn't really a visit, it was like in between pit stop
- 0:31kind of place.
- 0:33But we went out and it was so hot in my poor baby,
- 0:36it was not used to Arizona weather anymore.
- 0:38- Oh my God, God, there was one point where like,
- 0:42I just was like so overheated that I just was like,
- 0:45I called my Uber and leaving.
- 0:47Like I could not be there anymore.
- 0:49I was like, oh, okay, bye.
- 0:52Bye, yeah, that was actually like a crazy run.
- 0:55I went from San Francisco to Phoenix to San Diego, Phoenix,
- 0:59Wisconsin Dells, Phoenix home.
- 1:01I'm all in 11 days, so.
- 1:03(laughing)
- 1:04- That's too much, dude.
- 1:06- That's too much.
- 1:07- And Ziggy was with you for all of it.
- 1:11- Well, he didn't go to Wisconsin or San Diego,
- 1:13but he was in Phoenix with my mother,
- 1:15which also I do go home because my dog is a little weird
- 1:19oh freak and he is very cat like.
- 1:22Like he likes me and he likes my mom.
- 1:26Like no one else is able to really watch him.
- 1:28And then I saw there's this influencer,
- 1:33Madeline White, who I love.
- 1:35She has two dogs and she put her dogs in like,
- 1:40boarding training and one of her dogs died within like two days
- 1:45and they said that it was from overheating with this trainer.
- 1:51And they started posting about it and essentially this
- 1:54really famous dog trainer in LA has killed so far
- 1:58that they found 11 people's dogs in his care.
- 2:03- What the fuck?
- 2:03- Yes.
- 2:04And they've like died under like mysterious circumstances
- 2:08and all of them.
- 2:09- It's just keeping them out in the heat all day.
- 2:11Like they're not sure.
- 2:13Yeah, their dog died over overheating.
- 2:16They had two dogs with him.
- 2:17One is still alive thankfully.
- 2:19And so it is, I was like, that was happening again.
- 2:23I was like, well, yeah, I'm never,
- 2:25'cause people keep in like aren't you just gonna find
- 2:27like a San Francisco dog sitter?
- 2:28And I'm like, I don't trust anyone.
- 2:30- Yeah.
- 2:31- It's like, he is like a very unique animal.
- 2:35(laughing)
- 2:36- I've never left Buffy with like, sitters.
- 2:40Like we would always have like my father-in-law
- 2:42or like my sister-in-law watch her like,
- 2:45even with our cats like,
- 2:47so Andrew and I are going to Paris, London,
- 2:50and Madrid this month, which I'm so excited about.
- 2:54But we are taking the kittens to his mother's house.
- 2:59- Okay.
- 3:00- Which Alistair was making fun of us for my sister-in-law.
- 3:03She's like, people don't take their cats
- 3:05to other people's houses.
- 3:07That's the thing you do with dogs.
- 3:08(laughing)
- 3:09- Yeah, well, you do have three cats
- 3:12and one of them does not like the two of them.
- 3:14So.
- 3:15- It's just staying at your house.
- 3:18- Chows to staying at the house.
- 3:19And then two of my friends are gonna come in
- 3:21and just kind of tag team and check up and clean her,
- 3:24clear, cleaner litter box.
- 3:26- Clean her feet or every other day.
- 3:28Play with her a little bit.
- 3:29Probably use my swimming pool.
- 3:31So.
- 3:32- That is just the nice thing about cats.
- 3:34It's like, you know, like a weekender,
- 3:37like they're good, you know,
- 3:38just load them up with some extra food.
- 3:40- Oh yeah.
- 3:41- Dogs, that's animal abuse, you know?
- 3:43- Yeah.
- 3:44- A little bit, a little bit.
- 3:45- Chows can I, we're talking about we'd be more inclined
- 3:47to have children if like you could do that with a kid.
- 3:50Just like leave it at home for a couple days
- 3:52with like a litter box to shit in,
- 3:54enough food to feed itself.
- 3:56I'm just like, whatever, it's fine.
- 3:59- Yeah, I guess it's a certain age you can,
- 4:01but yeah, you gotta put in like 13 years of like good work.
- 4:06- Yeah, I wanna do this like a toddler,
- 4:08just kind of like-
- 4:09- Yeah, that's a special way to do it.
- 4:10- Leave it a bowl of water.
- 4:10- Leave it a bowl of food.
- 4:12Leave it a bowl of water and a box to shit in.
- 4:15- Leave it a bowl of water.
- 4:17- Yeah, and that's why we are sinks and dinks.
- 4:21(laughing)
- 4:22- So we are a child free by choice.
- 4:24- Oh yeah.
- 4:25- Speaking of child free by choice,
- 4:29we lost a child free icon recently.
- 4:32Miss Dolly Parton passed away.
- 4:35- Miss Dolly Parton and Miss Gore is Steinem.
- 4:39- Oh my God, I don't think I know.
- 4:41- Does she have kids though?
- 4:42- She was just a women's advocate.
- 4:45- I'm not sure if Gloria Steinem has children, honestly.
- 4:47She is a, for those who don't know,
- 4:50you should know if you listen to our podcast,
- 4:52but Gloria Steinem was a women's rights activist
- 4:56and icon from the 70s.
- 4:58She pioneered like Miss Magazine.
- 5:01She was a big advocate for intersectional feminism.
- 5:04She was just a wonderful, wonderful person.
- 5:07So that's sad.
- 5:08And Dolly, I know actually Gloria Steinem never had children
- 5:13either, two child free icons.
- 5:16- Yes, two child free icons.
- 5:18And activists in their own, right?
- 5:19I mean, Dolly Parton truly just such an amazing person
- 5:24really put her money to all of these amazing causes.
- 5:30- Yeah.
- 5:31- She made sure children had books to read,
- 5:35just really invested into communities and into causes
- 5:39that she cared about and Gloria Steinem as well.
- 5:42So we are really just losing celebrities left and right.
- 5:47None of the ones that we want to go out unfortunately.
- 5:50- None of the elderly people, 80 year olds
- 5:52that we are hoping will pass away.
- 5:55Yeah, I know.
- 5:55Like Dolly was one of those like Christians
- 5:59that kind of just defined what I think Christianity
- 6:01really is supposed to be.
- 6:03- Then to be, right?
- 6:04- And to me.
- 6:05- Love your neighbor, love others, help people.
- 6:08She was an LGBTQ advocate.
- 6:11So we are pouring one out for Dolly and Gloria today.
- 6:15- Speaking of Dolly over the Texas drag band,
- 6:18Judge was like reviewing it and he actually threw it out
- 6:22because he was like, the law is describing Dolly Parton
- 6:27and under that.
- 6:28Like I cannot move forward with this
- 6:30and somebody rejected the Texas drag band
- 6:32because he's like, everything you guys are saying
- 6:34could be applied to Dolly Parton.
- 6:36- That's hilarious.
- 6:37- And it was like a dare to after she had passed away
- 6:40and I was like, oh my gosh, you know,
- 6:43even in her death, she is still advocating for the community.
- 6:47- I love that big bosom, big bots of makeup,
- 6:50glitter, sequins, heels, blonde hair.
- 6:53- One of my favorite co-workers, he's a drag queen.
- 6:58And as soon as I heard, I was like, we lost a real one
- 7:01and he was like, dude, one of our clients told us on a call
- 7:04and he's like, I genuinely had to fight back tears
- 7:07until after and he's like, I've been crying
- 7:09for the last 30 minutes.
- 7:10So she really is just such an amazing person
- 7:13and I think such a testament to who she was
- 7:16was all of the people who had met her
- 7:19like in made statements were truly just, you know,
- 7:22you set such a good example in the world
- 7:25and why it celebrity should be
- 7:28and how you should use your money.
- 7:29- And a shadow producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
- 7:34- Yeah, I mean, to create that show and not like take credit
- 7:38for it for somebody years and be a part of it
- 7:40is just crazy to me.
- 7:42- Love it.
- 7:43- And that's on doing the Lord's work in silence.
- 7:46- Doing the Lord's work, giving us Buffy,
- 7:48loving the gaze and looking damn good, well doing it.
- 7:51So and then obviously shadow to Gloria.
- 7:54That one hit me really hard today.
- 7:56So we are pouring one out for Gloria and Dolly
- 8:00but this episode is going to be dedicated
- 8:03to another beloved celebrity that we recently lost.
- 8:07Mr. Tim Curry, we lost them within a day
- 8:12to each other, which was just awful.
- 8:17- So they actually passed away on the same day
- 8:20but Tim Curry's team waited the day
- 8:24to announce it so that Dolly could have her tribute
- 8:29and I'm like, I love that.
- 8:32- I love that too.
- 8:33- And he is also a childless icon.
- 8:37(laughs)
- 8:38- Yeah, let's go.
- 8:40(laughs)
- 8:41So for this episode, we thought we'd take a look back
- 8:44at the career of Tim Curry.
- 8:47Tim Curry was born in Chessaya, England in 1946.
- 8:52He made his acting debut in 1968 in the stage musical Hair,
- 8:57which played in London's West End.
- 9:00He also played Dr. Frank and Furter.
- 9:02- That's an impressive way to come in here.
- 9:05- Right.
- 9:06- Well and on West End.
- 9:07- Yeah.
- 9:08- Yeah.
- 9:09So the role of Frank and Furter is what made him famous
- 9:12in the stage production of Rocky Horror Show
- 9:15as well as the film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
- 9:20He received three Tony nominations playing the lead
- 9:23in Amadeus.
- 9:25He played King Arthur and Spamlet
- 9:28and acted in numerous film roles,
- 9:31some of which are Annie in 1982,
- 9:34The Lord of Darkness in Legend in 1985,
- 9:37Wad's Wuth in Clue, The Concierge in Home Alone 2,
- 9:42The Three Musketeers, Long John Silver
- 9:45and Muppet Treasure Island.
- 9:47(laughs)
- 9:48- I saw some meme years ago that was literally like,
- 9:51we can tell how old you are by what film
- 9:54or what role you associate Tim Curry with.
- 9:57(laughs)
- 9:59- Mine's Fern Gully, so.
- 10:01(laughs)
- 10:02Fern Gully is so good.
- 10:04- Humans, the taste like chicken.
- 10:06- Yeah, so what was the first introduction
- 10:09that you had to Tim Curry?
- 10:11- I mean, I think Fern Gully, obviously he's animated there.
- 10:14So, you know, a little bit of one,
- 10:18I think the one that sticks out most in my mind
- 10:22is probably gonna have to be Home Alone 2,
- 10:27Lost in New York, but also Scary Movie 2.
- 10:30Or like, he's so good at Scary Movie 2.
- 10:33I love him so much, he plays.
- 10:35Like, he, I think, does such an amazing job
- 10:38at like insidious grimy, but like humor
- 10:43and you like him and you wanna just like keep watching.
- 10:46I mean, his Lord of Darkness in Legend
- 10:48is also the same way where he makes the devil in that world
- 10:53like quite interesting and fun and humorous.
- 10:57And so I think he does a great job at doing that.
- 11:00- Yeah, I agree.
- 11:02I think that my first time seeing him on film
- 11:05was definitely Home Alone 2.
- 11:07I mean, I love Fern Gully, but I didn't like know
- 11:10who Tim Curry was.
- 11:11And then also he was the voice of Nigel Thornberry
- 11:15and the Wild Thornberries.
- 11:17And I loved that show.
- 11:19So I didn't realize that was him for years either
- 11:22because yeah, his voice is so distinct,
- 11:24but he changes it so much for like,
- 11:26yeah, whether he's being like a villainous character
- 11:29or a more sexy one.
- 11:32He got an Emmy, a primetime Emmy nomination
- 11:35for his role as a family of hillbillies in Tales from the Crypt.
- 11:41I didn't have HBO when I was little,
- 11:43but that show I was scared of me so I never watched it.
- 11:46- And then of course, he was also Pennywise the Clown
- 11:50in the TV miniseries.
- 11:53- Yeah.
- 11:54- And yeah, I think that, you know,
- 11:56just prepping for this episode
- 11:57and going through his filmography.
- 11:59He was such a talented person
- 12:01and he really interestingly like gravitated towards
- 12:06these types of roles.
- 12:09But even within Rocky Horror Picture Show,
- 12:11he talks about why he became Frank
- 12:15or why he wanted to be that character.
- 12:17And he said he always just love to live out his contradictions
- 12:22and explore those kind of various elements within him.
- 12:26And so I like that.
- 12:27- I think that he's always been fun.
- 12:30And you know, we love a saucy British man.
- 12:33- I know.
- 12:34He's definitely so, I don't know.
- 12:36So many of his characters were like queer-coded.
- 12:38I mean, obviously, Frankenford or right.
- 12:41But just kind of like the,
- 12:43and he was very private about his sexuality.
- 12:47But I definitely think just like Dolly,
- 12:49like just kind of like a gay icon for these fun boy
- 12:53and kind of roles and the inflections.
- 12:56And I would say even like the goo monster from Ferngolly,
- 13:01like I need a lot of cartoon villains
- 13:04were kind of gay-coded in the 90s though.
- 13:06It's a lot too sad about that.
- 13:08But yeah, I think that it was just, you know,
- 13:11he meant so much to so many people.
- 13:14- Yeah, in 2025 they did like a kind of Rocky Horror picture show
- 13:19like cast, interview.
- 13:22And he really reflected on like the message of the movie
- 13:26and what it meant to him.
- 13:28He had already kind of experienced a stroke at this point
- 13:31as well as we had had like health issues.
- 13:34And it was a sense of like reflection on his life.
- 13:37And he said like really what being an LGBTQ icon meant to him
- 13:42was like one of the things that movie does
- 13:45is give permission to anyone to behave as badly as they want
- 13:49in whatever way they want and with whoever they want.
- 13:52And so I think that that movie really catapulted him
- 13:57into being a gay icon and permission in experimentation.
- 14:02I mean Rocky Horror picture show to this day
- 14:06is still such a cultural icon.
- 14:09- Oh my God, yeah.
- 14:09- Because events where it's live acted,
- 14:12the crowd dresses up like it really just captured such a beautiful
- 14:18like message and experience for anyone and everyone
- 14:22even to this day.
- 14:24So many years later.
- 14:25- Yeah, totally agreed.
- 14:27I liked this following his death.
- 14:29The New York Times praised Tim Curry's gift for garish eccentricity.
- 14:34Well, also, no, - Same that fact, fast.
- 14:37- Gerrish eccentricity.
- 14:40- Give her, give her, give her,
- 14:43give her, give her eccentricity.
- 14:45Noting that he was a favorite in roles
- 14:47calling for expressive villainy and general cartoonishness.
- 14:52So I love all of that.
- 14:55We are going to take a very quick break
- 14:58and then we are going to break down some of his most iconic roles
- 15:02or the ones that meant the most to us.

- 15:53So welcome back.
- 15:55As I mentioned, we are going to talk about some of our favorite Tim Curry roles.
- 16:00We kind of touched on it a little bit,
- 16:01but Rocky Horror Picture Show has to be number one for me.
- 16:05So Rocky Horror Picture Show, 1975,
- 16:09was directed by Jim Charman,
- 16:11written by Charman and Richard O'Brien, who played riffraff.
- 16:15It was based on the stage show and also starred Susan Sarandon,
- 16:19Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, and Meatloaf amongst a lot of others.
- 16:25Have you ever been to a live showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show?
- 16:30I have not actually, and I feel like I truly need to get in there.
- 16:36I was supposed to go in high school,
- 16:38and I think I got like the flu or something.
- 16:40And I've just never been able to go.
- 16:43I think you went when I lived in Arizona at one point,
- 16:45and I just didn't get the chance to go with you.
- 16:48I've only been once.
- 16:50Oh, really?
- 16:51Okay, then maybe you were something else that you were going to.
- 16:54Yeah, I went once.
- 16:55It was either senior year of high school or freshman year of college,
- 16:58but I remember it was 18.
- 16:59And me and our friend Stephanie and Jessica, the three of us went,
- 17:03and they do a virgin sacrifice.
- 17:06Like if it's your first time, you're supposed to raise your hand
- 17:08and get humiliated on stage.
- 17:10And I was like, "No, I'm too shy."
- 17:13But we should definitely go.
- 17:15It is so fun.
- 17:17They play the movie, and then in front of it,
- 17:19they have people acting out the film as well.
- 17:22Doing the dance routines, doing the song numbers,
- 17:25throwing things at the screen.
- 17:28It is so fun.
- 17:30And just so many iconic songs.
- 17:33I love Sweet Transvestite.
- 17:36And the time warp, just so many things that you know.
- 17:39Yeah, I think that it's just such an iconic movie,
- 17:43as I mentioned in the beginning, that it's like parody.
- 17:46Like we even to the say like Sabrina Carpenter is like,
- 17:49what was it, tears.
- 17:51Yeah.
- 17:52That movie is just stacked with an amazing cast as well.
- 17:57So creative.
- 17:58And obviously it's an adaptation from a play,
- 18:03but the movie really just captured such a moment in time.
- 18:07And you know, it was post the free love era,
- 18:11but it really continued to kind of bring that into the zeitgeist.
- 18:15And I think forever and always he will be remembered
- 18:18as such an iconic character.
- 18:20For sure.
- 18:21The first time you see him on screen,
- 18:23and like his shoes are just huge, and he's in that elevator.
- 18:28And then he whips off his cloak, and he's in that like sparkly laundry
- 18:32ray.
- 18:33And he's a sweet transvestite from transsexual transylvania.
- 18:39Yeah.
- 18:40What gender is this person?
- 18:43It doesn't matter.
- 18:44I want him.
- 18:45I want them.
- 18:46Like he is sex with like so many people with both of the like lost characters in the
- 18:54soup.
- 18:55It's just it's so goofy and over the top and so gay and flamboyant and just wonderful.
- 19:01Yeah.
- 19:02He's such a perfect character for it.
- 19:04And like his theater background obviously sets him up for success within that.
- 19:08But I truly couldn't imagine anyone else in that role.
- 19:12I did like Anthony Stewart heads take on Frankenberger.
- 19:16He did it for a stage production.
- 19:17Also rest in peace.
- 19:19Anthony Stewart had our child.
- 19:21And he did amazing at it.
- 19:23But yeah, I mean in the movie adaptation definitely definitely need to be Tim Curry.
- 19:28Yeah.
- 19:29Could you ever see them like remaking that movie?
- 19:33I really hope not.
- 19:35I they did that for a while like ABC.
- 19:38I think it was was doing like a live musical productions.
- 19:43Do you remember that?
- 19:44That you could like turn the channel and they were doing like a live theatrical performance
- 19:49of different musicals with varying degrees of excess.
- 19:55So in the 90s because you were saying turn the channel.
- 19:58No, it was recent.
- 19:59It was within the last like 10 years.
- 20:01Oh, okay.
- 20:02You still have trouble?
- 20:04It was on cable.
- 20:05Okay, you had cable within the last 10 years.
- 20:09I didn't watch it.
- 20:10I just knew about it.
- 20:11I'm a pop culture junkie.
- 20:13Okay, but it just sounded like a tactile memory with the tone.
- 20:19No, it's just okay.
- 20:20Okay.
- 20:21So it was, oh, it was Fox.
- 20:24Okay, so it was a 2016 musical television.
- 20:27Oh, it was.
- 20:28Wow.
- 20:29Yeah.
- 20:30It was brought on on here.
- 20:31It was brought on here.
- 20:32It was brought on here.
- 20:33During the Glee time.
- 20:35Yes.
- 20:36They did a bunch of different adaptations.
- 20:39They did Greece and they would tweak some of them to be more like with the times.
- 20:43But yeah, they did it.
- 20:44I didn't watch it because I wasn't sure how good it was going to be.
- 20:47But yeah, I hope they don't do a, like a movie.
- 20:51A full movie.
- 20:52Yeah.
- 20:53Yeah.
- 20:54It's perfect as it is.
- 20:55Leave it alone.
- 20:56Literally.
- 20:57Literally.
- 20:58He was in the Fox live musical, but he played like the criminologist.
- 21:03No, he, he wasn't Frankenford or obviously he's, he was what 72 years old.
- 21:09So not the Frankenburger can't be a 72 year old man.
- 21:12Listen, I'm here for it.
- 21:14Yeah.
- 21:15Yeah, those heels might cause a broken hip, though.
- 21:21And then one of his more iconic roles as well is Clue the 1985 version, which is written
- 21:27and directed by Adjana Thinlin.
- 21:29He starred alongside Eileen Brennan, Madeline Conn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin
- 21:36Moll, Leslie Ann Warren, Colleen Camp, and Lee Ving.
- 21:41And he, I mean, I've seen this movie.
- 21:44I mean, he's quite memorable within it.
- 21:47But I think that he, like this clue movie has been remade so many times.
- 21:51So we can answer that clue will get remade.
- 21:54Oh, yeah.
- 21:55I, I definitely have seen this movie.
- 21:57It's not one of my more like iconic roles of his personally, but I know a lot of people
- 22:02love this movie.
- 22:03And I love the board game.
- 22:05So yes, the board game is great.
- 22:08Yeah, it's a great game.
- 22:10Yeah.
- 22:11Who are you betting?
- 22:13Colonel Colonel Sanders with the candle stick in the library.
- 22:18Colonel mustard.
- 22:19Colonel Sanders is a sh*t.
- 22:20Colonel Sanders.
- 22:21Oh, the Colonel Sanders.
- 22:22I think it was Ronald McDonald with the deep frying.
- 22:30Ouch, that would hurt.
- 22:32Speaking of Colonel Sanders, have you seen Colonel Sanders theory that he's actually an
- 22:37Asian man pretending to be a white man?
- 22:40It's like an adult theory right now.
- 22:42Okay.
- 22:43Maybe we'll do.
- 22:44Maybe we'll have to do an episode of four year later.
- 22:47A theory.
- 22:48Oh, we've done weird theories before, but I think we should do strange like fast food theories.
- 22:54Oh, oh, oh, we should do Disneyland, like people who have died at Disneyland.
- 23:00That would be an interesting story.
- 23:01Oh, okay.
- 23:02Write that down.
- 23:03Write that down.
- 23:04Write that down.
- 23:05It's coral.
- 23:06Okay.
- 23:07Another role that Tim Curry is definitely known for one of his most iconic, I think, is Stephen
- 23:14King's It, specifically the 1990 TV miniseries that aired on ABC.
- 23:22This was directed by Tommy Lee Wallace who wrote the screen adaptation with Lawrence Decoen.
- 23:28It also starred Harry Anderson, Dennis Christopher, Richard Maser, Anet O'Toole, Tim Reed, John
- 23:34Ritter, Richard Thomas, Richard Mazer, Anet O'Toole, Tim Reed, John Ritter, Richard Thomas,
- 23:43Seth Green and Jonathan Brandis.
- 23:46I forgot Seth Green was in this.
- 23:47He's so young and cute in this role.
- 23:49He's such a dork.
- 23:51Well, token redhead actor.
- 23:52I know.
- 23:54I started watching this last week because I've never seen it all the way through.
- 23:59It is three hours long because it was originally a miniseries and then it's been like adapted
- 24:06into like movie format.
- 24:09But Pennywise is horrifying.
- 24:12Oh, my God.
- 24:13Halfway through, he's so scary, just so iconically grotesque and messing these children up.
- 24:23This is just so horrifying.
- 24:25I think the first introduction to people being afraid of clowns.
- 24:30When Stephen King wrote this, it was just the intro to clowns or terrifying and we should
- 24:36all hate them.
- 24:37So it is a 1986 horror novel of, you know, if people didn't know it was a book first and
- 24:44then four years later, I was made into this miniseries.
- 24:48The 90s loved a miniseries.
- 24:50Yeah.
- 24:51I know, right?
- 24:52So it's about an evil shapeshifting monster that wakes up once every 27 years to feed on
- 24:57the town's children and one of the preferred shapes for the monster to shift into is a clown
- 25:04because why not?
- 25:05Yeah, with a creepy little balloon.
- 25:08Yes.
- 25:09Y'all float too.
- 25:11I love the modern movies and welcome to Dairy.
- 25:16Like I'm so glad that the it universe is still going.
- 25:19Yeah, I think that.
- 25:21I mean, like a shoot, like even in Home Alone 2, like his like smile is so creepy and like
- 25:29it's such a perfect fit for like creepy clown and yeah, when I was younger, like was so afraid
- 25:37of it and my dad, Resta Sol, I'm parenting award of the year was letting me watch way too
- 25:44many horror movies and you know, this movie came out before I was born but it would like
- 25:51let me be around when he was watching it.
- 25:54Oh my god.
- 25:55Now I'm not like mortified. Like I'm not adult afraid of clowns, but holy shit, I was so scared
- 26:01of clowns and so yeah, I think that it is is really, really interesting.
- 26:06I do love a 90s mini series or book to TV at a patient that eventually gets a movie.
- 26:13You also get that with like Hannibal Lecter series, right?
- 26:16And so that started as a TV movie.
- 26:21I mean, moved into it.
- 26:22Yeah, he's so good in that role and and so creepy.
- 26:26And then of course where most millennials came to know and love him, maybe we still a little
- 26:32afraid of him, but not as afraid as Stephen King's it is Home Alone 2 lost in New York
- 26:39icon.
- 26:40We love to see him within that movie and he does like a good little villain with comedy.
- 26:46Yes.
- 26:48Your cheesy pizza sir.
- 26:50Yeah, that movie is directed by Chris Columbus written by John Hughes, starred McCulley
- 26:57Colken, Joe Paskey, Daniel Stern, Catherine Roher, RIP, they're together now.
- 27:03They're hanging out.
- 27:04John heard Brenda Fricker and Satan himself, Donald Trump.
- 27:07Oh god.
- 27:08I know.
- 27:09I loved all the memes that were like the wrong cast members from Home Alone 2 were leaving.
- 27:16Yeah.
- 27:17Yeah, he does just such a good job.
- 27:19Like I said with that quote earlier, like he loves to pick a movie where he's living out
- 27:27contradictions or he's like sometimes just like a little shit.
- 27:32Garrish eccentricity.
- 27:34Garrish eccentricity is yes, I think that it's such a good movie.
- 27:40And he has truly no shortage of iconic ones like scary movie too.
- 27:46Oh my god.
- 27:47I absolutely love him.
- 27:48I can't see that so funny.
- 27:50He definitely is.
- 27:51So good.
- 27:52What do you mean?
- 27:53I haven't seen that movie.
- 27:54It's so long, but I remember him being so funny in that role.
- 27:59Who does he play in scary movie too?
- 28:01He plays like the creepy professor.
- 28:03I can't remember his name.
- 28:04He's the one that brings them all in for the study and is trying to fuck Anna Ferris in
- 28:09it.
- 28:10And he gets possessed to like try to sleep with her as well.
- 28:15It's so, so good.
- 28:16He plays like he plays a good creep.
- 28:17I love him.
- 28:18He's always that yeah, like it's just that he's the preferred.
- 28:22He's the creepy professor old man.
- 28:24Yeah, there we go.
- 28:25Yeah, exactly.
- 28:26And he plays it well.
- 28:28He plays it really, really well.
- 28:30I think again, Gannis that creepy smile.
- 28:32So it works really well.
- 28:34And then he's very famous for being in it.
- 28:37So you know, subsequently they bring him in.
- 28:40I love when scary movie does that.
- 28:42I actually still have not watched the new scary movie.
- 28:46I haven't either, but I heard it's not afraid to.
- 28:48I'm afraid to.
- 28:49Well, no, I'm going to do it because I want them to make more.
- 28:51But I traditionally hate a sequel out of nowhere, but I do love those movies so much.
- 28:57I have for some reason as a lover of horror, keep finding myself dating men who are afraid
- 29:03of scary movies.
- 29:05And so I like just try to ease them in with comedy horror.
- 29:09You need a bisexual non-blond man who loves horror movies.
- 29:14We'll start with the non-blond, then we'll move into bisexual.
- 29:20Non-blond bisexual liberal man who likes horror movies.
- 29:24Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:25There it is.
- 29:26Absolutely.
- 29:27There's the personal.
- 29:28Absolutely.
- 29:29Anyway, any takers, you know?
- 29:32That cannot be that hard in San Francisco, you know?
- 29:35No, that sounds.
- 29:36It basically described every San Francisco man.
- 29:40Right?
- 29:41Yeah.
- 29:42I'm just going to walk around with the sign around me.
- 29:46Just now seeking.
- 29:47Now seeking bisexual.
- 29:48You can see these non-blond.
- 29:50You could just look at it.
- 29:51Oh, yeah.
- 29:52Yeah.
- 29:53I like having it in there.
- 29:54It's a little bit.
- 29:55I think non-blond.
- 29:56Bisexual non-blond.
- 29:57Bisexual non-blond.
- 29:58Like, what is that three non-blonds?
- 29:59But it'll be.
- 30:00Yeah.
- 30:01Bisexual non-blond.
- 30:11Good band.
- 30:12Good band.
- 30:13Three bisexual non-blonds.
- 30:14Yeah.
- 30:15You need three?
- 30:16Yeah.
- 30:17God damn.
- 30:18I'm going, Polly.
- 30:19Wow.
- 30:20I was debating, buying dark black blue hair dye, and then I thought to myself, I cannot move to
- 30:27San Francisco and have blue hair.
- 30:28Like I'm becoming the prophecy.
- 30:30You already have a nose ring.
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:34Well, that was to signal that I'm a little bit saucy.
- 30:38Yeah.
- 30:39Yeah.
- 30:40I mean, this is definitely like, who do you think I voted for?
- 30:43Look at my bangs and my nose ring.
- 30:45Come on, man.
- 30:46Yeah.
- 30:47Yeah.
- 30:48Absolutely.
- 30:49I love it.
- 30:50I think that Tim would love us.
- 30:51I think that we, he would love our garish eccentricities.
- 30:55Yeah.
- 30:56Yeah.
- 30:57Yeah.
- 30:58I think he would have been fun.
- 31:00He in the past has said that he loved him some hashish and the kokina.
- 31:06And so I think that we would, you know, have a grand old time with the man.
- 31:10And he has been awarded countless awards.
- 31:16Go figure awarded.
- 31:17He's won Emmys.
- 31:18He's won Tonys.
- 31:19And, you know, it is truly recognized in his day as well as in his death.
- 31:25And so we will pray that they are all together having a grand old time, having a gale time,
- 31:32inspirate.
- 31:33Gale time, him and Dolly and Gloria.
- 31:37Yeah.
- 31:38Gale time and Anthony Head.
- 31:40So we will watch some of these, I think, more scarier Tim Curry movies.
- 31:45I think it's every Halloween is time for a Rocky Horror Rewatch.
- 31:48I'm going to finish it.
- 31:50I'm ready for my horror movies.
- 31:52And I think that is a wrap up on this Tim Curry Memorial episode of Pop Culture Junkie.
