Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, everybody. I'm Tamara Judge and I'm Danesling, and you're
- 0:03Speaker 1: listening to talking a big game.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to talking a big game with myself and
- 0:13Speaker 2: danes Dan.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I feel like it's been a long time since we've talked.
- 0:17Speaker 3: It has been a long time, and I'm going right
- 0:19Speaker 3: to the chase. Tamar, you have to understand me from
- 0:23Speaker 3: the Midwest. I pull up Instagram stories. You're like, I'm
- 0:25Speaker 3: going getting surgery. I pull it up. You have green face,
- 0:28Speaker 3: your head's wrapped. Can you explain that? I got no idea?
- 0:31Speaker 3: What what?
- 0:32Speaker 4: What is?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Oh my god? So now I'm two and a half
- 0:35Speaker 1: weeks out and I went in and had a little
- 0:39Speaker 1: bit of a brow lift, which kind of brings my
- 0:42Speaker 1: brows up a little bit.
- 0:43Speaker 5: Because what is butt'? What does that mean? Where does
- 0:45Speaker 5: it cut? What's being pulled? I need to know. I
- 0:47Speaker 5: need I.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Literally had staples in the top of my head, in
- 0:50Speaker 2: my hairline and then in my temple. So they kind
- 0:53Speaker 2: of just go in there a laparoscopic I think it's
- 0:56Speaker 2: called or indoscopic, I don't even know, and they go
- 0:58Speaker 2: and they pull the muscles out, which raises your eyebrows,
- 1:01Speaker 2: which you know what I could see better.
- 1:03Speaker 5: Dan really, yeah, look, I mean you look amazing.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yes, But when I did that, he suggested I also
- 1:09Speaker 2: do a chemical pill and a CO two laser, which
- 1:12Speaker 2: really takes you down to the meat.
- 1:14Speaker 5: It felt like you were green though.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I was like, so it's actually starts out blue.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It's a Bajie blue peel and it it They used
- 1:22Speaker 2: the dye to see how deep they're going into your skin.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It's actually to protect you I from not going in
- 1:27Speaker 2: like them going in too deep. And that's where all
- 1:31Speaker 2: the swelling really came from, and the uncomfortableness and the peeling.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And I'm still my skin, if you could see, is
- 1:39Speaker 2: still a little pink and it's going to take probably
- 1:42Speaker 2: a good month and it and it actually my skin
- 1:44Speaker 2: is it's like my makeup artist came over last night
- 1:47Speaker 2: because I was on went to Dancing with the Stars
- 1:49Speaker 2: to see our girl Faeda, and she's like, oh my god,
- 1:52Speaker 2: your skin is like butter.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It like took ten years off of.
- 1:55Speaker 3: You and well you look amazing, but ten days ago
- 1:58Speaker 3: I'm like, do I need to.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Go out and see gonna die? Like?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Is this goodbye? I know it was brutal, but it
- 2:05Speaker 1: was definitely worth.
- 2:06Speaker 5: It on a pain scale zero to ten, ten being
- 2:09Speaker 5: the absolute worst.
- 2:10Speaker 2: The very first day I was having, the very first night,
- 2:13Speaker 2: I was having some issues because I do have like
- 2:15Speaker 2: a lot of fluid in my sinus areas that just
- 2:19Speaker 2: I can't get rid of, and so I always have
- 2:21Speaker 2: a lot of sinus pressure. But on top of the lift,
- 2:24Speaker 2: the brow lift, the swelling just put me into like
- 2:29Speaker 2: migrain mode, and no matter what how many pain pills
- 2:32Speaker 2: I took, it wouldn't go away. So I finally added,
- 2:35Speaker 2: I talked to my doctor and I'm like, I think
- 2:37Speaker 2: it's my sinus.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He's like, I don't understand this pain.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So I literally took a sinus medication cleared my sinuses
- 2:43Speaker 2: out and it helped.
- 2:45Speaker 1: He goes.
- 2:46Speaker 2: That makes sense, he goes, Because your head was in
- 2:48Speaker 2: a certain position the entire time for four hours. When
- 2:51Speaker 2: I pulled you up, all this fluid came out of
- 2:54Speaker 2: your nose.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Well you look, you look amazing, Like I cannot like,
- 2:58Speaker 3: I can't believe in such a short time, like you
- 3:00Speaker 3: always looked amazing, but you look amazing now real quick.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Yeah, you just went on. You were just at Dancing
- 3:06Speaker 5: with the Stars.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I watch Phaedra performed what was that like to be
- 3:10Speaker 3: up close to personal with another like reality TV competition
- 3:14Speaker 3: showing up?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Okay, so Dan, I've always people have always go you
- 3:16Speaker 2: need to go and dance to the stars. I'm like, no,
- 3:17Speaker 2: that's my biggest nightmare, Like I would be so scared,
- 3:20Speaker 2: so nervous, so out of my box. And the minute
- 3:23Speaker 2: I walked in there the energy, the music that so
- 3:29Speaker 2: many people like. It is such a big production. I'm like,
- 3:33Speaker 2: oh my god, I want to do Dancing with the
- 3:34Speaker 2: Stars now. But I mean I was there for Phaedra
- 3:38Speaker 2: I was, and also your best friend Bananas was there
- 3:40Speaker 2: at the same.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Hello for me, Oh no identity. I still don't think
- 3:46Speaker 1: he's a big fan of yours.
- 3:47Speaker 4: And then.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Max was there. He was you know, he was on
- 3:52Speaker 1: the other side.
- 3:52Speaker 2: He didn't sit with us, and and some of Phaser's friends.
- 3:57Speaker 2: We also had MJ that was Thereda from New York Housewives.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And Parverdy I think was supposed to be there. But
- 4:05Speaker 1: if you did, you see Parvada got it in a
- 4:06Speaker 1: new show.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Oh uh Australia right surviv Yeah. Yeah, I'm excited for her,
- 4:14Speaker 3: But you were the one they got the camera time.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, I saw.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I didn't know if it were all of it, but
- 4:19Speaker 2: I was sitting up front, which was fun but also
- 4:22Speaker 2: annoying because they had the confetti bomb.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It was sitting beach right between my legs basically, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: they're like, just want to let you know.
- 4:30Speaker 2: It's a huge noise, and the first time it went off,
- 4:33Speaker 2: none of us were prepared and we're like, we thought
- 4:35Speaker 2: it was a gunshot, and so that four other times
- 4:38Speaker 2: we had to you know, endure this loud sound.
- 4:41Speaker 1: But it was really really cool. It's so much fun.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Then we went out to dinner afterwards, to Boa, and
- 4:47Speaker 2: I was just so over the top happy for Phaedrish.
- 4:50Speaker 2: The girl is on fire. She's done so much from
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know, Ultimate Girls Trip. I did that with her
- 4:57Speaker 2: then then Traders then and then married to Medicine and
- 5:00Speaker 2: then she's back on Atlanta Dancing with the Stars.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It's like non stop for her.
- 5:05Speaker 3: It was fun to see her come out and like
- 5:06Speaker 3: the Dazzle but like seeds Fader in completely different light
- 5:10Speaker 3: than what I was used to, but it was awesome
- 5:12Speaker 3: to route her on.
- 5:13Speaker 5: But speaking of.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Different lights and different competition shows, we have a very
- 5:17Speaker 3: special duo we're bringing in today, Cam.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Okay, so Penn and Kim holding this interview today. Now,
- 5:24Speaker 2: let me just tell you I was talking with Amazing
- 5:28Speaker 2: Race two years ago. Me and Teddy were thinking about
- 5:31Speaker 2: doing it, and I literally googled them because I heard
- 5:35Speaker 2: that they had won the year prior, and god, I
- 5:39Speaker 2: just went down a rabbit hole on their Instagram.
- 5:42Speaker 1: It is insanity.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Now, Penn and Kim have been married eighteen years and
- 5:48Speaker 2: for the past decade they have been online content creators.
- 5:51Speaker 2: When I say creators, like this is like professional shit here,
- 5:55Speaker 2: like this isn't just like, oh it is, I mean,
- 5:59Speaker 2: it isn't per They are known for their award winning
- 6:02Speaker 2: videos of a sketch, comedy, and music. They have two
- 6:08Speaker 2: billion views and over eight million followers across their social
- 6:12Speaker 2: media platform. Penning Kim are best selling authors, authors, award
- 6:17Speaker 2: winning podcast hosts, and were winners of season thirty three
- 6:20Speaker 2: of Amazing Race. They live in Raleigh, North Carolina, with
- 6:24Speaker 2: their children, Lola and Penn, and their dogs Sonny. They
- 6:28Speaker 2: have a website about their family and they have a
- 6:31Speaker 2: new book, adhd Is Awesome. It's available now. We're going
- 6:35Speaker 2: to get into it with them. But their Amazing Race
- 6:38Speaker 2: story on March second, twenty twenty two, they won the
- 6:41Speaker 2: thirty third season of Amazing Race. Due to the COVID pandemic,
- 6:46Speaker 2: they shot the season in two chunks.
- 6:49Speaker 1: They had to.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Stop because of COVID and then go back in February.
- 6:53Speaker 2: From February and then to September and redo it, so
- 6:56Speaker 2: it was it was crazy. They traveled to England, Scotland, Switzerland, France, Greece,
- 7:00Speaker 2: and Portugal, which sounds pretty freaking amazing to me.
- 7:04Speaker 5: I'm like one heck of a race.
- 7:06Speaker 3: I'm really excited to talk to them and really see
- 7:09Speaker 3: I mean to have a game chopped up into two
- 7:10Speaker 3: parts and how they attacked that.
- 7:12Speaker 5: But nonetheless, it.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Takes away the momentum.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I would think, I mean it, it would be hard
- 7:17Speaker 2: to do that, but they they did it.
- 7:18Speaker 1: They didn't really have a choice.
- 7:20Speaker 2: So let's just get into it because I'm super excited
- 7:22Speaker 2: because I literally, like I.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Said, went down a rabbit hole with them. So bring
- 7:26Speaker 1: on Pen and Kim. Hello, Oh my god, I am Tamra.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I don't know if you know who the hell I am.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Dan. Nice to meet you, guys.
- 7:34Speaker 6: Hey, nice to meet you.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Just want to let you know I was in talks
- 7:38Speaker 2: to do amazing race. So I this was two years ago,
- 7:42Speaker 2: didn't happen, but whatever, who knows if it will happen.
- 7:45Speaker 2: But I went down a rabbit hole on your guys'
- 7:48Speaker 2: Instagram because you guys had just.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Won, and oh my, your videos are so good, so good?
- 7:58Speaker 6: Did my mom want you to say this?
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yeah, just so entertaining, so fun, Like, we're so excited
- 8:05Speaker 2: to talk to you today, So let's just get into it.
- 8:08Speaker 2: What originally inspired you both to get into content creation?
- 8:12Speaker 7: You know, I think it was a very pure way.
- 8:16Speaker 7: It happened by accident. We both came from the world
- 8:19Speaker 7: of television news and we're kind of working that life.
- 8:24Speaker 7: I had quit the news and started a company like
- 8:26Speaker 7: video production. I felt like I could just like go
- 8:28Speaker 7: out and make videos for people. Penn was still working
- 8:30Speaker 7: as a news anchor, but I convinced him he never
- 8:33Speaker 7: saw the kids, and like, you should like quit your
- 8:35Speaker 7: job and we would we start a company so we'd
- 8:37Speaker 7: be making videos for other people, like behind the scenes. Yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 7: and then to sort of announce that to our friends
- 8:43Speaker 7: and family in our community. We put I was like,
- 8:45Speaker 7: we should do a video to announce you're quitting your
- 8:48Speaker 7: job on the news and then maybe like my mom
- 8:50Speaker 7: would share it, and you know, my aunt would see it,
- 8:52Speaker 7: and then maybe somebody would hire us locally just to
- 8:55Speaker 7: make their videos behind the scenes. And we put that
- 8:57Speaker 7: out and it was called Christmas Jammies. And at the
- 9:00Speaker 7: end we put it, we put our website address up there,
- 9:03Speaker 7: which is now not our website address anymore. But it
- 9:06Speaker 7: went that video ten years ago.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Now, that was the twenty thirteen video that blew up.
- 9:12Speaker 7: And blew it wu and viral. Yeah, and it was
- 9:15Speaker 7: great for our business. I'll let you talk here eventually, honey.
- 9:18Speaker 7: But we had no intention of ever being like on camera.
- 9:24Speaker 7: It was all behind it. And it took us several
- 9:26Speaker 7: years after that before we started making videos with our
- 9:30Speaker 7: faces on it consistently because we just get really slow
- 9:33Speaker 7: to learn that whole thing.
- 9:34Speaker 1: But get to get this correct.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Prior to that, you were in front of the camera
- 9:38Speaker 2: right right in your prior jobs, right, so you love
- 9:42Speaker 2: you were.
- 9:42Speaker 7: Yeah, we're fine at it, but really loved the behind
- 9:45Speaker 7: the scenes part.
- 9:47Speaker 6: I still like that part better. I do too.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I like that part.
- 9:49Speaker 6: I like a lot.
- 9:50Speaker 3: So when when you dropped this video and you're like, okay,
- 9:52Speaker 3: I'm trying to promote our new business.
- 9:54Speaker 5: You obviously had to get new business from that.
- 9:57Speaker 3: What can you talk about the response that happened from
- 9:59Speaker 3: the viral video that was not intended to be viral.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Yeah, so we got we got thirteen thousands something thousand. Jeez,
- 10:10Speaker 4: we got a lot of emails. I would say that
- 10:12Speaker 4: of the ten thousand, like nine thousand of them were
- 10:16Speaker 4: perverts who like were really interested in my wife who
- 10:18Speaker 4: was in pajamas.
- 10:20Speaker 6: That's fine, that's fine.
- 10:22Speaker 4: That was a lot of that, a lot of a
- 10:24Speaker 4: lot of that. And then maybe a thousand of them
- 10:27Speaker 4: were which is a great number, where like, hey, my
- 10:31Speaker 4: business is interested in this, Like we're interested in using
- 10:33Speaker 4: you for this. And then maybe like a hundred of
- 10:36Speaker 4: them were like viable options that were in our area
- 10:39Speaker 4: and that we could actually go after. And then maybe
- 10:42Speaker 4: those hundred, maybe twenty of them came to fruition. So
- 10:44Speaker 4: we kind of had kickstarted accidentally a production company with
- 10:49Speaker 4: this video. Yeah, and that was our That was kind
- 10:52Speaker 4: of how we did it for a while, and then
- 10:54Speaker 4: sort of discovered slowly slower than some that that we
- 10:59Speaker 4: could still make fun videos on a regular basis on
- 11:03Speaker 4: YouTube and Facebook and that could be its own economy.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Where you know, if you get a certain number of subscribers,
- 11:11Speaker 4: then brands come to you for deals and monetize it.
- 11:14Speaker 4: And that that came a little bit later. So we
- 11:17Speaker 4: kind of spun off our production company and we still
- 11:20Speaker 4: consult in it, but that's we're not really a day
- 11:21Speaker 4: to day part of that and went full time into
- 11:23Speaker 4: just making our own content.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I think it's important to paint the landscape in the
- 11:27Speaker 3: context of twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen.
- 11:30Speaker 5: It's not like it is now where everyone does that.
- 11:32Speaker 3: When you guys we were making those videos, what was
- 11:35Speaker 3: because it sounds like him you were you were hesitant
- 11:37Speaker 3: to like put yourself out. There was the hesitation just
- 11:40Speaker 3: because it was still kind of like weird at the time.
- 11:43Speaker 7: Well, we didn't know you could make money on it.
- 11:45Speaker 7: So we put out Christmas Jammis. I think in the
- 11:47Speaker 7: first few days it had something like ten million views,
- 11:50Speaker 7: and we got an email and said, you have to
- 11:52Speaker 7: turn monetization on on YouTube. We didn't know how to
- 11:54Speaker 7: turn monetization on.
- 11:55Speaker 6: That's funny, yeah, and so we.
- 11:58Speaker 7: Like went into the back end. Figured we didn't realize
- 12:01Speaker 7: that you could make money off of it, and to
- 12:04Speaker 7: be clear. When we started doing videos with our faces
- 12:07Speaker 7: on it, it was only to boost profile so that
- 12:10Speaker 7: we would get hired by companies to do their production.
- 12:14Speaker 7: So we still took us a long We just it
- 12:17Speaker 7: took us a long time to figure out there were
- 12:18Speaker 7: YouTubers at the time. We just weren't aware of them.
- 12:21Speaker 7: We didn't hang out on YouTube. Yeah, so it wasn't
- 12:24Speaker 7: but now everybody can, you know, have a TikTok, which
- 12:27Speaker 7: is great. I think the democracy of it is great,
- 12:29Speaker 7: but it was very We didn't know how. We weren't
- 12:32Speaker 7: that smart.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so you do this to this day, do you
- 12:36Speaker 2: still do it yourself? You do the editing, you do
- 12:39Speaker 2: everything yourself.
- 12:40Speaker 1: You have some help production team.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Now, yeah, there are parts of it that we still do.
- 12:45Speaker 4: It's you know, we were very lucky to have a
- 12:47Speaker 4: team we have. We have an editor who also helped shoot,
- 12:50Speaker 4: who also helps with graphics sometimes sometimes we edit. Though
- 12:56Speaker 4: we also have like a kind of a creative I
- 12:59Speaker 4: don't want to say it created director, but we have
- 13:00Speaker 4: a woman who handles a ton of our brand deals marketing,
- 13:04Speaker 4: helps us with the idea creation, and she's also in
- 13:06Speaker 4: some of our videos. So it's a very small kind
- 13:08Speaker 4: of tight knit team of people who live here in
- 13:10Speaker 4: North Carolina. And that's like, we don't scale up too
- 13:14Speaker 4: much because anytime we try to do that, you sort
- 13:17Speaker 4: of lose track of what I think people are looking for,
- 13:19Speaker 4: which is a fairly authentic look at what's going on,
- 13:23Speaker 4: but in a humorous take on our lives.
- 13:25Speaker 3: And that's because you're in the landscape I'm in. I'm
- 13:27Speaker 3: in like YouTube and Twitch and everything like that. So
- 13:29Speaker 3: when you guys went fully into this and you talk
- 13:32Speaker 3: about like having an idea generator, like how do you
- 13:34Speaker 3: stay on the trends and so like your next video,
- 13:37Speaker 3: how do you know what that's going to be? And
- 13:40Speaker 3: like are you fairly confident, hey this is gonna hit
- 13:42Speaker 3: or you roll the dice every time?
- 13:44Speaker 4: Now, we don't mean there's some things that we know
- 13:47Speaker 4: traditionally do better, but you never know until you press post.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I think it's interesting, like our audience is generally like
- 13:55Speaker 4: moms and some dads, you know, maybe in from their
- 13:59Speaker 4: mid twenty until maybe their fifties. It's kind of like
- 14:01Speaker 4: that's kind of our target. A lot of professionals, some
- 14:04Speaker 4: of these people don't even like care about what's trending,
- 14:07Speaker 4: what they seem to care about. Is that the ish
- 14:10Speaker 4: that's going on in our family seems to remind them
- 14:13Speaker 4: of the ish that's going on in their family.
- 14:15Speaker 7: Yeah, So it's easier for us because I don't think
- 14:19Speaker 7: the people who watch our videos expect us to know
- 14:21Speaker 7: trends like you are, you know, you're super young and
- 14:25Speaker 7: trendy like it would be. I think if we posted
- 14:27Speaker 7: something with super trendy, they wouldn't know what it was.
- 14:30Speaker 1: So I can't keep up on these trends.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I'm older than all of you, I'm pretty sure, and
- 14:35Speaker 2: I just I'm like, I don't even know this language
- 14:37Speaker 2: young the younger generation.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I'm like, what does that mean?
- 14:40Speaker 7: But that's related, And we've done that because we have
- 14:42Speaker 7: teenagers and so we've done videos about that, like trying
- 14:45Speaker 7: to speak. So it's I think that one thing we've
- 14:48Speaker 7: been very good at is we sort of look at
- 14:51Speaker 7: our lives and look at the world around us. And
- 14:55Speaker 7: my favorite part of this job is there's this lens
- 14:57Speaker 7: you can put on and say, like, is that funny?
- 15:00Speaker 7: So there's like something that happens, you know, in our
- 15:03Speaker 7: lives it seems really mundane, and we can kind of
- 15:06Speaker 7: try it on and say like, would it be funny
- 15:08Speaker 7: if we talked about it like this or is this
- 15:09Speaker 7: a funny song? Because he's a great musician, he could
- 15:11Speaker 7: write original music like I've heard. Yeah, I went on
- 15:14Speaker 7: a like a twenty four hour trip. We went to
- 15:17Speaker 7: New York just for a day, and I packed like
- 15:19Speaker 7: twelve pair of underwear and he's like, how many times
- 15:21Speaker 7: are you going to crack your pants? I'm like, I
- 15:23Speaker 7: don't know if I just feel like I need a
- 15:24Speaker 7: lot of underwear time. Yeah, it's like twelve pair of underwear. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 7: and so you just don't know what you want to
- 15:30Speaker 7: be prepared, be prepared and so what I know. So
- 15:34Speaker 7: he's like, so he wrote a song about it, you know,
- 15:36Speaker 7: and it was like this, So that's that's sort of
- 15:39Speaker 7: how the ideas go in our house, like going out
- 15:42Speaker 7: like the really mundane thing.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I like, like the just the raw humor in it,
- 15:46Speaker 2: I mean, and we can go safe to say you
- 15:48Speaker 2: don't go commando ever.
- 15:49Speaker 7: No, I like to have options. I have had color options.
- 15:52Speaker 7: What if I start my period, like I need.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Like some heft, yeah, I need often never know.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Now, you guys just wrote a book as well. ADHD
- 16:09Speaker 2: is awesome and it's available now right, Yes, can you
- 16:13Speaker 2: tell us a little bit about that and what inspired you?
- 16:16Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks for mentioning it. I have ADHD. You can
- 16:20Speaker 4: figure that out after talking to me for a few seconds.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Usually in case, it's a part of who I am.
- 16:27Speaker 4: And it was a source of confusion and shame when
- 16:31Speaker 4: I was growing up, and I found great support and
- 16:34Speaker 4: I found a job that kind of helped u It helped.
- 16:39Speaker 4: It actually was ADHD friendly. I found a wipe who
- 16:43Speaker 4: is ADHD friendly and yeah, smoking hot and in a
- 16:48Speaker 4: lot of ways, ADHD has been a superpower and a
- 16:50Speaker 4: real asset for me, including when we were on The
- 16:52Speaker 4: Amazing Race, Like it actually really helped me and we
- 16:55Speaker 4: talked about it some on the show. And you know,
- 16:57Speaker 4: when we told that story on The Amazing Race, we
- 16:59Speaker 4: got a lot of comments like, oh man, thank you
- 17:01Speaker 4: for saying something. Everyone like makes it feel It makes
- 17:04Speaker 4: me feel like this is such a bummer. Doctors, sometimes
- 17:07Speaker 4: teachers even you know, and parents who don't understand it.
- 17:10Speaker 4: They talk about it like there's something wrong with you.
- 17:12Speaker 4: And so we wanted to get the message out that yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 4: it does suck sometimes, but there's nothing wrong with you.
- 17:18Speaker 4: You have a unique brain it's not really built for
- 17:22Speaker 4: the world that we live in. But if you put
- 17:24Speaker 4: some systems in place and do a little bit of work,
- 17:26Speaker 4: there's a ton of creativity and spontaneity and the hyper focus,
- 17:30Speaker 4: all kinds of great things that come with ADHD.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I grew up with a brother with ADHD and I
- 17:35Speaker 2: want to kick his ass every single day.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Yeah, So in the book you talk a lot.
- 17:42Speaker 3: In the book, you talk about some tools and then
- 17:44Speaker 3: things that it can help and help people navigate that.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Is there anything you can share with someone listening right now?
- 17:49Speaker 3: I'd be like, I'm definitely gonna buy the book, but
- 17:51Speaker 3: give me like one tip.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I set a timer every time I
- 17:56Speaker 4: turn a stove on because the way that my brain
- 17:59Speaker 4: works all I'm sure you know this about your brother,
- 18:01Speaker 4: like height, just walk away and leave the stove on,
- 18:03Speaker 4: leave the door wide open. So I have all these
- 18:05Speaker 4: kind of reminders in place. iPhone is great for that, Hey, series,
- 18:08Speaker 4: set and reminder for you know, ten minutes while the
- 18:11Speaker 4: stove's on. I let's see, I.
- 18:14Speaker 6: See it's a magnet on top of this car.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a magnet on top of my car
- 18:17Speaker 4: that doesn't hold anything, but It reminds me not to
- 18:20Speaker 4: put my coffee mug on it, because I've driven away
- 18:22Speaker 4: and broken several coffee mugs. I have a reminder on
- 18:26Speaker 4: my hamper, a little sticker that reminds me to take
- 18:28Speaker 4: my keys and wilet out because I've washed them several times.
- 18:32Speaker 4: I have a reminder in the bathroom to put the
- 18:34Speaker 4: toilet seat down, or I did, and now I just do, like,
- 18:38Speaker 4: listen to this, I just piece sitting down all the time, now,
- 18:40Speaker 4: Dan like, there's no there's no harm to that.
- 18:43Speaker 1: No, there's no no harm.
- 18:45Speaker 6: Relaxed.
- 18:47Speaker 5: It makes it easier to get on your phone.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, I'm not gonna lie. My husband doesn't there.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you never know what's gonna happen while
- 18:54Speaker 4: you're down there.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I think he was taught to do that.
- 18:56Speaker 6: Yeah really Yeah, who wanted him to like be really clean?
- 19:00Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 19:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think I might have a little
- 19:02Speaker 2: touch of it. My daughter tells me all the time,
- 19:04Speaker 2: you have ADHD. I have flooded our kitchen twice because
- 19:08Speaker 2: I turn think on and then I get busy. Sometimes
- 19:10Speaker 2: I go outside and water a lawn and then I
- 19:12Speaker 2: come in and the sinkers that were flowing in the
- 19:14Speaker 2: kitchen led it. Oh yeah, oh yeah, I do this.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I walk in two rooms and forget what I'm doing.
- 19:19Speaker 1: But it just might just be old age though.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Well, there are ADHD symptoms in perimenopause. That's one of
- 19:26Speaker 4: the things we discovered.
- 19:27Speaker 7: But I also will say that most of the we
- 19:30Speaker 7: work in this like wonderful world with a lot of
- 19:32Speaker 7: creative people, most of the most creative, wonderful people we know.
- 19:35Speaker 7: And I'm looking at the screen here and you guys
- 19:37Speaker 7: are creative and wonderful. There's a touch, it's a spectrum,
- 19:41Speaker 7: like there's a little dath ahd in there, and be
- 19:43Speaker 7: proud of it, like that's it's a really it's a
- 19:45Speaker 7: really good brand.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Yeah, we're good at keeping people entertained, because if we
- 19:49Speaker 4: get bored, if we're not entertaining ourselves. Yeah you know
- 19:53Speaker 4: what I mean, I can get that.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, let's talk about your time on Amazing Race
- 19:57Speaker 1: season thirty three. Jeez, been around a long time.
- 20:01Speaker 2: You had a very unique experience on the show, filming
- 20:04Speaker 2: it in two separate chunks because of COVID.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Now, me and Dan were on traders. I don't know
- 20:10Speaker 1: if you've seen that.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I couldn't imagine doing a show and then halfway go okay,
- 20:15Speaker 2: stop and then how long was it before you start.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Started back up again?
- 20:19Speaker 6: Nineteen months?
- 20:20Speaker 7: What we had we started out, we had the best
- 20:25Speaker 7: like where were you when the World shut down?
- 20:26Speaker 6: Story, because we were in Scotland, Scotland. We were in Scotland.
- 20:31Speaker 7: We had just finished the third leg of the amazing
- 20:33Speaker 7: race we had won, and so we were riding high
- 20:37Speaker 7: and so but we were older, you know, participants, and
- 20:42Speaker 7: so we go back to the hotel room and we
- 20:44Speaker 7: turn on the news and that.
- 20:45Speaker 6: Cruise ship there's a cruise ship in Italy.
- 20:47Speaker 7: And this was end of February, beginning of March, so
- 20:50Speaker 7: before the US had even really start talking about Yeah,
- 20:53Speaker 7: and we were aware enough and we looked at each other,
- 20:56Speaker 7: We're like, we're going home. Like if we don't go home,
- 20:58Speaker 7: we're not going to get out of here.
- 20:59Speaker 6: We got this.
- 21:00Speaker 7: This is a game show, and this game show experiment
- 21:02Speaker 7: is over. So right away we were in your Something
- 21:06Speaker 7: they don't tell you is that you're sort of even
- 21:09Speaker 7: before COVID, you're sort of quarantined. So you go into
- 21:12Speaker 7: your hotel room and they have a security guard in
- 21:14Speaker 7: the hallway. You can't leave your hotel room because you
- 21:16Speaker 7: don't have a.
- 21:16Speaker 6: Self like traders.
- 21:17Speaker 7: Yeahh you have a cell phone, you have you don't
- 21:20Speaker 7: have any way in it to a safety issue, so
- 21:22Speaker 7: you're sort of your quarantine. So we were trying to
- 21:24Speaker 7: get information out and we're trying to ask questions and
- 21:27Speaker 7: there you can tell like people were scrambling. And then yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 7: they sent us home and we landed in the US.
- 21:33Speaker 7: We're like, guys, everybody, it's coming, get paper, towels, get
- 21:35Speaker 7: to and nobody like, nobody here cared for two weeks.
- 21:38Speaker 6: It's crazy.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Oh and then they cared there was no more toilet
- 21:41Speaker 2: paper to be no more toilet paper.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah, real quick, Before we get to that, how did
- 21:45Speaker 3: because you guys had a production company running your videos,
- 21:48Speaker 3: how does it go from that? Like, Hey, I'm gonna
- 21:50Speaker 3: walk away for thirty plus days to go shoot this
- 21:52Speaker 3: reality show. So how did that come about for you
- 21:55Speaker 3: guys to get on this show and then make that
- 21:56Speaker 3: decision say, hey, the business is going to run itself gone.
- 22:00Speaker 4: While we're going. We had to do it twice, which
- 22:02Speaker 4: was even tougher because we had to go back. We
- 22:04Speaker 4: did it once. That was about twenty two days and
- 22:06Speaker 4: we did it again for twenty two days because of
- 22:08Speaker 4: all the onboarding. But the short answer is we were
- 22:11Speaker 4: lucky to have a team of people that we just
- 22:12Speaker 4: mentioned that where we worked really over time to batch
- 22:16Speaker 4: a bunch of content and then you know, we added
- 22:18Speaker 4: some reshares here and there and just hoped like we
- 22:23Speaker 4: definitely didn't want to share our business down for good,
- 22:25Speaker 4: because there's a good chance in these shows, as you know,
- 22:28Speaker 4: that if you don't win, you're walking home with nothing
- 22:31Speaker 4: or close to nothing, and except for the experience, and
- 22:36Speaker 4: so we did, we did try to think ahead. The
- 22:38Speaker 4: biggest challenge for us really wasn't the business. It was
- 22:41Speaker 4: the fact that we had we had kids who we
- 22:44Speaker 4: had never been away from that long.
- 22:45Speaker 1: And how old were your kids at that time.
- 22:49Speaker 4: The first time, they were thirteen and eleven pen or eleven.
- 22:53Speaker 7: And we're super codependent, so it's like an unhealthy like
- 22:57Speaker 7: I'm super helicopter mom, I'm super clinging.
- 23:00Speaker 6: So that was that was rough.
- 23:02Speaker 4: For me, and I'm not sure how it is on
- 23:04Speaker 4: your shows. But because they didn't want people to know
- 23:07Speaker 4: how they were doing, you couldn't call them on the
- 23:09Speaker 4: first trip. We could not speak to our kids for
- 23:11Speaker 4: twenty two days. The second time we went back, a
- 23:15Speaker 4: lot of people said, we're not going back unless we
- 23:17Speaker 4: can talk to our kids. It's a pandemic kind of beenage.
- 23:20Speaker 7: We got a once a week, five minute phone call
- 23:21Speaker 7: which actually made things was almost Was it supervised?
- 23:25Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, So what's the same thing with us when
- 23:27Speaker 2: we when we did Traders, we got in, they stripped
- 23:30Speaker 2: us of everything. We had three big guys go through
- 23:33Speaker 2: our suitcases, open up our shampoo bottles, do everything. I
- 23:36Speaker 2: accidentally took my car keys because they were in my purse.
- 23:39Speaker 2: They took my car keys, they took my jewelry, they
- 23:42Speaker 2: took everything from us.
- 23:44Speaker 7: Everything I found that I had my So the first
- 23:47Speaker 7: time I wasn't I knew. I didn't even bring my
- 23:49Speaker 7: cell phone because I was like, I just don't even
- 23:51Speaker 7: want to have it.
- 23:52Speaker 6: I didn't bring anything with me.
- 23:53Speaker 7: And it's these three huge guys and they you're treated
- 23:57Speaker 7: a little bit like you're a Crimena present. Yeah, and
- 24:00Speaker 7: there I felt so violated and I and I had
- 24:05Speaker 7: and so amazing race. You have to pack everything, so
- 24:07Speaker 7: I had expertly packed, like.
- 24:09Speaker 2: My that's what you're I had to watch your videos
- 24:12Speaker 2: because I thought for sure we me and my other
- 24:14Speaker 2: co host, Teddy Mellencamp. I thought for sure we were
- 24:16Speaker 2: gonna get picked to do this. So I was watching
- 24:19Speaker 2: your packing. You know, something happened. I can't remember what
- 24:22Speaker 2: it was. I think probably didn't pass the psych I
- 24:24Speaker 2: don't know.
- 24:25Speaker 7: No, but honestly, crazier the better, so that I mean,
- 24:28Speaker 7: I'm sure.
- 24:30Speaker 1: No, I don't know about that, but I don't know.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I can't even remember what happened, but I remember going,
- 24:36Speaker 2: I gotta watch because you you did a video about
- 24:38Speaker 2: what to pack.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yes, yes, and so that's why I started going down
- 24:43Speaker 1: the rabbit hole and watched every one of your videos.
- 24:45Speaker 7: You're very I'm sorry about that, but anyway, so they
- 24:49Speaker 7: throw your crap everywhere and they're like, okay, you're done,
- 24:51Speaker 7: and I'm like, oh my god, I just spent three
- 24:53Speaker 7: days packing that and you just tore it apart. But
- 24:56Speaker 7: there is there is a person two people in our
- 24:58Speaker 7: cast who brought vibrators and had to explain those and
- 25:02Speaker 7: get those kind of dissected.
- 25:03Speaker 1: That we did too.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Yeah, that was very interesting.
- 25:05Speaker 1: They took them, they took they took them.
- 25:08Speaker 6: They let them keep them, but they.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Took everything from us.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Stop it.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I personally did not bring a vibrator, but one.
- 25:17Speaker 2: I think one girl got it confiscated and one girl
- 25:19Speaker 2: didn't for some reason.
- 25:21Speaker 6: It's unfair, I know.
- 25:23Speaker 5: To pivot so to get on the show.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Were you guys, were you guys recruited or did you
- 25:27Speaker 3: make an incredible video with your production team and submitted it.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Back to the vibrators. I'm all right, someone, you guys
- 25:40Speaker 4: are have done these before. Someone reached out to us
- 25:41Speaker 4: and asked us to make a tape.
- 25:43Speaker 7: But we still had to go through the things we
- 25:44Speaker 7: need to make a We had to make a video
- 25:46Speaker 7: we had to do before that. I think now it's
- 25:48Speaker 7: all on zoom, but we had to fly to La.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Twice, all on zoom. Now that would be I think
- 25:53Speaker 6: they do it all on zoom.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Now they do everything on zoom.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Now, Yeah, did you guys, Were you guys separated when
- 25:57Speaker 2: you got there or do you got to stay.
- 25:59Speaker 1: In the same hotel?
- 26:00Speaker 6: We were never separated, never, So, okay, were you guys separated?
- 26:03Speaker 4: Everybody?
- 26:04Speaker 1: Well, we had a couple Larsa.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Pippen and Marcus Jordan were on Traders and they were separated.
- 26:10Speaker 2: They had to be in different hotel rooms. Michael no, no, no,
- 26:14Speaker 2: this is for traders for traders.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Okay, yeah yeah, yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Yeah, this is the Michael Jordan's kid and Scotti Pippin's
- 26:19Speaker 4: ex wife. Did I get that right? Yeah?
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yes, exactly.
- 26:23Speaker 6: Yeah. Oh my gosh, what a tangled web.
- 26:33Speaker 3: So when you guys got the essentially the recruiting outreach,
- 26:35Speaker 3: like hey, we want to have you on the show,
- 26:36Speaker 3: but you still got to go through the process. Was
- 26:38Speaker 3: it immediately like yes, we're going to do this or
- 26:40Speaker 3: was there some how did you convince your each other
- 26:44Speaker 3: to do it?
- 26:45Speaker 4: Our daughter had talked us into it the first time,
- 26:47Speaker 4: like we were like, how this might be kind of fun,
- 26:49Speaker 4: like we you know Kim more than I. But Kim
- 26:52Speaker 4: grew up like loving The Amazing Race and watching it.
- 26:54Speaker 4: She was like a super fan, and I became one,
- 26:57Speaker 4: you know, I guess after the fact. But our daughter
- 27:01Speaker 4: like she I remember We're sitting at dinner, She's like,
- 27:03Speaker 4: what are you going to remember some random month in
- 27:05Speaker 4: February or the time that you tried to go on
- 27:07Speaker 4: the Amazing Race.
- 27:08Speaker 2: So true, and to have that support is so good
- 27:12Speaker 2: from your kids because as a mom or dad leaving
- 27:15Speaker 2: your kids for.
- 27:15Speaker 1: That long, you're like parent how can I do this
- 27:19Speaker 1: but to have your kids go do it?
- 27:20Speaker 6: Mom?
- 27:22Speaker 4: They were realized.
- 27:23Speaker 6: She probably didn't realize.
- 27:24Speaker 7: But I have to say I think my hesitation was
- 27:26Speaker 7: many like a leaving my kids because I'm so codependent
- 27:29Speaker 7: that I feel like I'm only one who could take
- 27:31Speaker 7: care of them. But I'm also very competitive and I
- 27:35Speaker 7: don't like to lose. And I and I just felt
- 27:40Speaker 7: like if we got there and the shows you were on,
- 27:44Speaker 7: like you can't really help, Like it's there's more like
- 27:47Speaker 7: strategy whatever.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Amazing race.
- 27:49Speaker 7: The thing I love about it, like I couldn't have
- 27:51Speaker 7: done the shows you guys were on, but like the
- 27:53Speaker 7: thing I love about it is it is sort of
- 27:55Speaker 7: up to us, right, like in control. We're in control,
- 28:00Speaker 7: grew up. It's our fault, not somebody like, you know,
- 28:03Speaker 7: backstabbing us and kicking us off. So I was scared
- 28:06Speaker 7: to look like an idiot, and several times I did,
- 28:09Speaker 7: by the way, but on TV was my big red flag.
- 28:13Speaker 4: I'd also say like we were very fortunate in our
- 28:15Speaker 4: race that we were able to have more control than
- 28:18Speaker 4: usual because of COVID. At least when we got back
- 28:21Speaker 4: there was a ton of self driving. It was almost
- 28:24Speaker 4: entirely self driving, so you weren't going to get you know,
- 28:27Speaker 4: a bad cab or you know, you weren't going to
- 28:30Speaker 4: miss a flight because we all had to fly in
- 28:32Speaker 4: the same jet because we were in a bubble. We
- 28:35Speaker 4: were basically doing this entire thing in a bubble. There's
- 28:37Speaker 4: never been another reality show like this, or there never
- 28:40Speaker 4: was before where we were all. It was nice. They
- 28:43Speaker 4: put us on a private jet.
- 28:45Speaker 1: That's nice. Yeah, yeah, that's really nice.
- 28:48Speaker 2: What scared me about it was like, you had to drive,
- 28:51Speaker 2: but yet you don't have ways, and you're in foreign
- 28:54Speaker 2: countries and you're in it. You have a stick shift, right, yeah,
- 28:57Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh my god, this.
- 29:00Speaker 6: Yeah, read a map, everybody.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I can't read a map, you kid, No, I don't
- 29:07Speaker 2: think I can. My husband could, but if I went
- 29:09Speaker 2: with him, he could. But I'm like, it was gonna
- 29:11Speaker 2: be me and Teddy, two girls like you know that
- 29:13Speaker 2: barely got through high school.
- 29:15Speaker 1: We're like, we're gonna we're gonna read a map.
- 29:16Speaker 7: I feel like it's not that they didn't choose you,
- 29:20Speaker 7: it's just they're waiting on a different season for you
- 29:22Speaker 7: because they have to put you on.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Well, we'll see, we'll see it's actually carved out of
- 29:27Speaker 2: my Bravo contract that I is.
- 29:29Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, I have phone calls to make because you
- 29:32Speaker 7: would be such good TV.
- 29:34Speaker 6: Oh my gosh.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I would like to do it with my husband.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I would feel more safe. It's hard for me to
- 29:40Speaker 1: be away from my family for that long. And my
- 29:44Speaker 1: daughter's now almost nineteen, so it'd be easier because she
- 29:47Speaker 1: can drive and she can get around. She still lives
- 29:49Speaker 1: with us. But you know, but to be I couldn't.
- 29:52Speaker 4: It was just hard.
- 29:52Speaker 5: It's hard.
- 29:53Speaker 6: It was really good.
- 29:54Speaker 7: We had We had a fun It was fun fun
- 29:57Speaker 7: now like he was talking me off the ledge alot
- 29:58Speaker 7: because I but like we had a great time, like
- 30:02Speaker 7: as married people on that rate.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Yeah. So the best part about it is, and this
- 30:07Speaker 4: may not sound like the best thing, but they take
- 30:08Speaker 4: your cell phone away, they take your computers away. You
- 30:11Speaker 4: have no access to internet. You can watch TV, but
- 30:14Speaker 4: it's all in German, so you don't understand the country
- 30:18Speaker 4: is It's like, it's actually kind of fun watching and
- 30:20Speaker 4: thinking what the hell do you think they're talking about?
- 30:22Speaker 4: But really it's just you and your partner, whether that's
- 30:25Speaker 4: your friend or your wife, or your sibling or whatever
- 30:28Speaker 4: it is, and you're getting this uninterrupted kind of quality,
- 30:31Speaker 4: one on one time that we don't get anymore in
- 30:33Speaker 4: the world because we're busy staring at our phones. So
- 30:35Speaker 4: it was it's the closest, even though there were cameras
- 30:38Speaker 4: in our face most of the time. It's the closest
- 30:40Speaker 4: that felt to her. Maybe.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Ever, how much downtime did you have?
- 30:46Speaker 4: Lots, especially after COVID because we had to test in quarantine,
- 30:50Speaker 4: you know, you think about it. We spent a total
- 30:52Speaker 4: of forty days on a show that had ten eleven episodes.
- 30:56Speaker 7: Right, so there we would have just they don't do
- 30:58Speaker 7: this anymore. But the rhythm of ours was and they
- 31:02Speaker 7: never told us when we were racing, but you could
- 31:03Speaker 7: kind of do the math of it.
- 31:05Speaker 6: We'd a land in a country, test.
- 31:07Speaker 7: Test, quarantine for a day, test again, and then race,
- 31:11Speaker 7: so it was like there was sort of a rhythm
- 31:13Speaker 7: to it. But I don't know, but before pre COVID,
- 31:16Speaker 7: our legs we did three back to back, like we
- 31:18Speaker 7: did a night, a morning, like took a train through
- 31:22Speaker 7: the day and the night, like we didn't stop.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Yeah, it was pretty fast, and they didn't like.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Can they just like wake you up excuse me. They
- 31:29Speaker 1: can just wake you up in the middle of the
- 31:30Speaker 1: night to do like a challenge too, right, Yes, did
- 31:33Speaker 1: they do that too?
- 31:34Speaker 6: They could, But this is a show.
- 31:37Speaker 7: It's first of all the crew to talk about behind
- 31:39Speaker 7: the scenes, like I want to be on the crew
- 31:41Speaker 7: of this show. They worship their crew. They treat their
- 31:43Speaker 7: crew so well that they wouldn't. I don't know that
- 31:46Speaker 7: they would do that to the crew, like the crew,
- 31:49Speaker 7: you know what I mean, Like you would get a
- 31:50Speaker 7: hint of it, because the crew would need thirty six
- 31:53Speaker 7: hours beforehand or something like that.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Right, right, I would imagine that they have a lot
- 31:56Speaker 1: of crews though, right.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Well, honestly, a lot of the people have been there
- 32:01Speaker 4: for years and years and it's kind of this gold
- 32:03Speaker 4: standard to be a photographer or an audio operator or
- 32:06Speaker 4: a member of the crew on the Amazing Race because
- 32:08Speaker 4: it is it's a great workout. I think that they
- 32:11Speaker 4: end up like getting tons of they're working harder than
- 32:13Speaker 4: we are. If you see us running with a backpack
- 32:15Speaker 4: and you're like, whoa, these guys are running with a backpack,
- 32:17Speaker 4: there's a guy. If you see us, it means there's
- 32:19Speaker 4: a guy running backward with an even heavier device.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Okay, so one of the guys, Pablo, that worked on
- 32:24Speaker 2: our show for years, worked on Amazing Race. Yeah, and
- 32:28Speaker 2: he was very fit, and I remember he was stopping
- 32:31Speaker 2: Orange County and he's like, I got to start training.
- 32:34Speaker 2: I got to start running because I have to I'm
- 32:37Speaker 2: going off to Amazing Race.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god. He's like, it's brutal. He's
- 32:40Speaker 1: all we have to literally run with the cameras it is.
- 32:43Speaker 6: It was. I was fascinated.
- 32:45Speaker 7: I mean I would be in the middle of the
- 32:46Speaker 7: challenges and I'd be looking at the crew and asking
- 32:49Speaker 7: their crew questions because I'm so fascinated by it. They
- 32:51Speaker 7: and it's interesting because they have It's like it's first on,
- 32:55Speaker 7: first off. So if you have if you have seniority,
- 32:58Speaker 7: you into the last day. But as as the contestants
- 33:03Speaker 7: are eliminated, they have to also send crew home. Oh
- 33:06Speaker 7: really Yeah, so you have to get you have to
- 33:08Speaker 7: be with the show for years to stay deep into
- 33:11Speaker 7: the season.
- 33:11Speaker 4: You just don't need as any of them as it
- 33:13Speaker 4: goes on. Yeah, but it was like interesting at the
- 33:15Speaker 4: end of our episode, I think because of all we
- 33:17Speaker 4: had to go through and all the crew had to
- 33:19Speaker 4: go through. They agreed and they showed for the first
- 33:21Speaker 4: time ever in the show and it hasn't happened again.
- 33:23Speaker 4: They did like a quick pan of the entire crew
- 33:27Speaker 4: when we were at the finish line, and it was
- 33:29Speaker 4: obviously wasn't the whole crew, it was who was left. Yeah,
- 33:31Speaker 4: but that was like, to me, that was like one
- 33:33Speaker 4: of my favorite parts of the show because I love
- 33:35Speaker 4: all of those people so much. They were incredibly respectful
- 33:39Speaker 4: and to your point, very fit. And I think if
- 33:41Speaker 4: they it would be great if they did a season
- 33:43Speaker 4: of The Amazing Race where they let the crew.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Well, oh my god, I just got chills. That would
- 33:48Speaker 1: be amazing.
- 33:49Speaker 3: So I'm fascinated because you guys started the first three
- 33:53Speaker 3: legs end very well. Yes, breaks are put on the show.
- 33:58Speaker 3: You go to COVID, what's going on in that downtime strategy?
- 34:01Speaker 3: And then how do you ramp back up? Because like, hey,
- 34:04Speaker 3: you're in a great position. Now what and that's a
- 34:07Speaker 3: lot of time to think assess who you're up against.
- 34:09Speaker 3: You researched the other people you're up against. What did
- 34:11Speaker 3: you guys do during that downtime?
- 34:14Speaker 7: Such a good question. We that is the busiest we
- 34:18Speaker 7: were ever. We were ever for our sort of like
- 34:22Speaker 7: content creation business, like we made a new video every
- 34:25Speaker 7: single day just around like life during COVID, and we
- 34:29Speaker 7: thought that being on the Amazing Race for three episodes
- 34:33Speaker 7: would be a fun story we would tell at cocktail parties.
- 34:36Speaker 7: We never thought they would get back. Put it out
- 34:39Speaker 7: of our mind, like, never thought they'd get back. And yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 7: and so I think, so we left. It was this time.
- 34:46Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, it was like this day three years
- 34:48Speaker 7: ago we left. It's like September whatever it did. It
- 34:51Speaker 7: was like mid September we left to go back. But
- 34:54Speaker 7: then I think in August, so a month beforehand. They
- 34:57Speaker 7: called us and they were like, this is our plan.
- 35:00Speaker 7: And I immediately said no, because I have kids. It's
- 35:04Speaker 7: a pandemic. I don't want to leave my kids during
- 35:06Speaker 7: a pandemic.
- 35:07Speaker 1: They're like, you signed a contract and no, no.
- 35:09Speaker 4: We didn't have to go back.
- 35:10Speaker 6: We didn't have to go back.
- 35:11Speaker 1: We didn't.
- 35:12Speaker 4: It was special circumstances. And in fact, quite a few
- 35:15Speaker 4: people did not come back.
- 35:16Speaker 6: And they but they said that.
- 35:19Speaker 7: So they basically then laid out their plan like you're
- 35:22Speaker 7: going to be you're going to travel exclusively, you're going
- 35:24Speaker 7: to drive yourself.
- 35:25Speaker 6: They landed out. It seemed super safe. Again.
- 35:27Speaker 7: Our kids are like, get the hell out of here,
- 35:28Speaker 7: and we had a month to get in. We're in shape,
- 35:32Speaker 7: we work out, but we had a month like I
- 35:34Speaker 7: put on a backpack and started running for the first time,
- 35:37Speaker 7: and it was and I knew it was scarier going
- 35:39Speaker 7: back the second time because I knew who I was
- 35:41Speaker 7: up against and they're all bad asses. They had asked
- 35:45Speaker 7: us to not be in touch with each other. We
- 35:48Speaker 7: had a lot of time in Scotland when we together,
- 35:51Speaker 7: when we all thought the show was going to be
- 35:52Speaker 7: canceled forever, so we all traded phone numbers and they said, okay,
- 35:58Speaker 7: don't follow each other, don't make it public, whatever.
- 36:01Speaker 6: I have to say.
- 36:02Speaker 7: Most I talked to Lulu and Laala occasionally, or the
- 36:07Speaker 7: Twins radio DJs and Raquel and Kayla, and they were
- 36:10Speaker 7: the second place team occasionally, but not enough for them
- 36:16Speaker 7: to like we were passing notes back and forth when
- 36:19Speaker 7: like the kind of intro week they bring back like
- 36:21Speaker 7: we were kind of passing notes back and forth but
- 36:24Speaker 7: really wasn't as much strategy as there probably should have
- 36:27Speaker 7: been on our side.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Well, they it was the weirdest I don't know why
- 36:31Speaker 4: they Maybe I know why. Maybe it was just because
- 36:34Speaker 4: of a fairness thing. There were no U turns our season,
- 36:37Speaker 4: zero U turns, and I think it probably was because
- 36:41Speaker 4: of the extenuating circumstances, Like it was a it was
- 36:44Speaker 4: a unique one of one season of the Amazing Race
- 36:47Speaker 4: where they just they just did what they could to
- 36:50Speaker 4: get going again. And one of the things that Kim
- 36:53Speaker 4: didn't tell you was the reason we did ultimately decide
- 36:56Speaker 4: was CBS came back with their like chief Health Office,
- 37:00Speaker 4: got on the phone with us, and you could tell
- 37:01Speaker 4: he'd talk to quite a few people and Sid they
- 37:05Speaker 4: put out this plan for how to get us safely
- 37:08Speaker 4: through Europe and through low transmission countries, and we looked
- 37:11Speaker 4: at each other and we're like, this is safer than
- 37:13Speaker 4: being in our community, right, It really was was we
- 37:17Speaker 4: could be And so that was like one of the
- 37:19Speaker 4: big reasons, unbelievable pioneering effort by CBS to make this happen.
- 37:23Speaker 4: But I think, you know, there were a lot of
- 37:26Speaker 4: new different challenges, a lot of self driving, but in
- 37:28Speaker 4: the end, it wasn't Caddy. There wasn't a lot of
- 37:31Speaker 4: cattiness in this one.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I have a little confusion.
- 37:34Speaker 2: So the first twenty two days that you went and
- 37:36Speaker 2: you filmed, did they use that or did they start
- 37:38Speaker 2: you all?
- 37:39Speaker 6: Oh?
- 37:39Speaker 1: So they did, so it was just a continuation.
- 37:41Speaker 2: I wasn't sure if they scrapped that because you said
- 37:43Speaker 2: certain people didn't come back.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Yes, how did they roll that into the show?
- 37:47Speaker 4: Well, so, first of all, I know, it sounds like
- 37:48Speaker 4: a lot for twenty two days. The reason why is
- 37:50Speaker 4: we were stuck in Scotland for several days trying to
- 37:53Speaker 4: get out of there and trying to figure out how
- 37:56Speaker 4: to suspend the race. And then there's like launch week,
- 37:58Speaker 4: which is seven days before you even do anything. That's
- 38:00Speaker 4: why it took so long there. But yeah, they I
- 38:03Speaker 4: mean they told this. They told the story entirely. They
- 38:07Speaker 4: like when we finally figured out we were going to
- 38:08Speaker 4: have to go home, they called us all back in
- 38:10Speaker 4: when we finally got flight, And it was like four
- 38:12Speaker 4: days after we had finished racing, and Phil came out
- 38:16Speaker 4: and they filmed it to make it look like we
- 38:18Speaker 4: had just gotten done with this leg four days ago,
- 38:20Speaker 4: and and Phil's like, guys, I'm sorry to tell you
- 38:23Speaker 4: there's a global pandemic, and we're all like, of course,
- 38:25Speaker 4: we've known this for four days, but yeah, what really,
- 38:29Speaker 4: I know he's the first.
- 38:31Speaker 6: This disappointing.
- 38:32Speaker 7: Meanwhile, everybody's sort of hung over because they give you money,
- 38:35Speaker 7: They take your all money, but then they give you
- 38:37Speaker 7: cash at the beginning of a leg to be like
- 38:39Speaker 7: if you have to buy something. So we all sort
- 38:42Speaker 7: of pulled it and used that, and so we were
- 38:45Speaker 7: like up late. And then has his credit card number memorized.
- 38:49Speaker 7: So when that ran out, we like opened a tap at.
- 38:53Speaker 4: In Glasgow, it's a random hotel and got it.
- 38:56Speaker 7: So we're all like looking at you, We're all hungover.
- 38:58Speaker 7: We're like, yeah, wow, this is so devastating.
- 39:01Speaker 6: Yeah, and then we got on a plane to went home.
- 39:03Speaker 6: But then so then they used that, they told.
- 39:05Speaker 7: That part of the story as you know, nineteen months
- 39:09Speaker 7: later and you see us come running.
- 39:11Speaker 5: Yeah, and do they replace the people?
- 39:14Speaker 6: So they good question, it's a great question. Very Uh.
- 39:19Speaker 7: Three people were not going to come back. One couple
- 39:22Speaker 7: was pregnant. One couple there was like visa issues, she
- 39:25Speaker 7: had been pregnant.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Nineteen months of staying in your house, you got got knocked.
- 39:30Speaker 6: Up, getting visited with it.
- 39:31Speaker 4: And then they broke up.
- 39:33Speaker 7: Yeah, they broke up, and then Spencer and Anthony like
- 39:36Speaker 7: he had a new job. And then tragically one Isaiah Taylor,
- 39:41Speaker 7: a couple they were there with us for the launch week.
- 39:43Speaker 7: They were they were traveling with us, and then Butther
- 39:47Speaker 7: died of COVID. Oh my god, we were like about
- 39:51Speaker 7: to take off. We're like where Isaiah and Taylor and
- 39:53Speaker 7: then COVID? I know, so four people ended up not
- 39:57Speaker 7: coming back. So they brought back the first two teams
- 40:00Speaker 7: that got eliminated.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Oh that's right, that's right.
- 40:03Speaker 7: I see them running out. You see them running out.
- 40:06Speaker 7: So you remember that, down two teams. So it was
- 40:09Speaker 7: like it made it was a little bit of a wonky.
- 40:11Speaker 4: They shrunk the number of episodes.
- 40:13Speaker 7: Yeah, they they had a shrinkt so, but behind the
- 40:15Speaker 7: scenes we're like, okay, well we're down these three. But
- 40:19Speaker 7: then and then yeah, it was it was they were
- 40:21Speaker 7: really flying by the seat of their pants production wise.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well, what would you say the key to winning
- 40:26Speaker 2: amazing races?
- 40:27Speaker 4: Reading a map?
- 40:29Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 40:30Speaker 4: Read, I mean that's not a very sexy you know what,
- 40:32Speaker 4: I'll give you the answer that we like that was
- 40:34Speaker 4: just like we're buddies. I'm gonna tell you that's the
- 40:36Speaker 4: real answer. But honestly, like we did a lot of
- 40:40Speaker 4: we wrote a book about this. We did like marriage counseling,
- 40:43Speaker 4: just because marriage counseling is good. And we learned how
- 40:46Speaker 4: to communicate with each other and how to support each
- 40:48Speaker 4: other and hype each other up when things are going
- 40:51Speaker 4: well and also when they're not going well. And I
- 40:53Speaker 4: think that that was that was probably the most important thing,
- 40:57Speaker 4: especially thinking back about the times that like things didn't
- 41:00Speaker 4: go well and it didn't derail us too much.
- 41:01Speaker 7: Yeah, we sort of practiced how we were going to
- 41:04Speaker 7: talk to each other when shit was going sideways, like
- 41:07Speaker 7: I don't love hearing. Like if I'm struggling with something,
- 41:09Speaker 7: I don't love hearing you got this.
- 41:11Speaker 4: You got this.
- 41:12Speaker 7: Because I don't got this, you say that to me,
- 41:15Speaker 7: I'm a throat punch you.
- 41:16Speaker 6: So we had to practice.
- 41:18Speaker 7: We kind of practice like what are the words you
- 41:20Speaker 7: can say when I'm really struggling, Like we sort of
- 41:22Speaker 7: had to practice how to talk to each other. But
- 41:24Speaker 7: I would say, bottom line, the things that we screwed
- 41:27Speaker 7: up on was just reading the clue and they will
- 41:30Speaker 7: take this. And so even in like the final leg,
- 41:33Speaker 7: I was like I was like the adrenalines going. If
- 41:35Speaker 7: you have the ability and you guys are seasoned pros
- 41:38Speaker 7: at this point to stop, take four extra seconds to
- 41:41Speaker 7: actually read it.
- 41:42Speaker 6: Those are the people that win, the people that read you.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Just take your time. You can just force four extra seconds.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Take the time, yam.
- 41:57Speaker 5: I'm really interested.
- 41:58Speaker 3: What what did Penne have to say to you to
- 42:00Speaker 3: not get throat punched in those moments that you were struggling?
- 42:03Speaker 4: Like, what was the key to help you? You're amazing?
- 42:07Speaker 6: No, he love you. He's like, I love you. I
- 42:09Speaker 6: wouldn't be able to do this either.
- 42:11Speaker 4: Really hard, like empathize, it's very difficult.
- 42:14Speaker 7: This looks really hard. I don't know how you're doing this.
- 42:16Speaker 7: You're doing great and so like it's I it's like
- 42:19Speaker 7: I need you to be like I need you to
- 42:21Speaker 7: see me and see that I'm struggling and not make me.
- 42:23Speaker 6: Feel shitty about it.
- 42:24Speaker 7: So it's very it's really weird that I am high
- 42:28Speaker 7: have that trait. But I don't like to be told
- 42:30Speaker 7: you got this.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Oh that's like me. I don't like to hear when
- 42:33Speaker 1: you're like upset about and it's like chill out, chill out,
- 42:37Speaker 1: I will knock you out. Knock you out for saying
- 42:41Speaker 1: that you're not alone.
- 42:42Speaker 6: You're not alone, chill out.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I want to say. That's what I
- 42:47Speaker 1: want to say.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Was there a moment in the race when you guys
- 42:50Speaker 3: looked at each other and we were like, this is
- 42:52Speaker 3: ours to lose?
- 42:53Speaker 5: Or did you always feel like an uphill battle?
- 42:56Speaker 4: Good question. So you never feel fully safe with a
- 42:59Speaker 4: win until you see the finish line, like that's for
- 43:02Speaker 4: sure the truth and they make sure that that's the case.
- 43:06Speaker 4: And they really did that with us. There was a
- 43:09Speaker 4: time when we looked at each other after I think
- 43:10Speaker 4: we won three in a row at one point, and
- 43:13Speaker 4: we looked at each other and thought, Okay, we can
- 43:15Speaker 4: win this, and we're probably like people probably are gunning
- 43:19Speaker 4: for us now. And there were a lot of parts
- 43:22Speaker 4: where we thought, oh man, this is not going to happen.
- 43:26Speaker 6: Yeah, because there's luck.
- 43:27Speaker 7: I think that's the fun part of the amazing race
- 43:30Speaker 7: is that there's luck involved, and so you can just
- 43:33Speaker 7: pick an unlucky thing or to take a wrong turn.
- 43:36Speaker 7: So we felt like we had this skill, it's just
- 43:39Speaker 7: whether we were lucky enough.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Yeah. We had about the least amount of time to
- 43:42Speaker 4: celebrate of anybody in history, because the final challenge was
- 43:46Speaker 4: literally like the finish line and the final challenge were
- 43:48Speaker 4: in the same place, and we passed the people at
- 43:51Speaker 4: the very.
- 43:52Speaker 6: End like they were ahead of us.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Yeah, we came into the final challenge in second place.
- 43:56Speaker 4: We passed them and they said, go that way, and
- 43:58Speaker 4: we went through a tunnel was about forty feet long,
- 44:02Speaker 4: and then a bunch of like gas and fireworks happened
- 44:06Speaker 4: and like these like like the vapor and we go through.
- 44:09Speaker 1: The sounds horrible.
- 44:10Speaker 6: I know, it wasn't glass and vapor.
- 44:12Speaker 4: It was like the long term sorry uh no, but
- 44:15Speaker 4: but and then we had won. That was it. And
- 44:18Speaker 4: so like we were comfortable with our position for exactly
- 44:22Speaker 4: eight seconds, right, is.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Well, we know what your key to your key to
- 44:27Speaker 1: winning the races, but in your everyday lives, how do
- 44:30Speaker 1: you achieve success? And what does that look like to you?
- 44:34Speaker 1: What does success look like to you?
- 44:40Speaker 4: Success to us is usually for us, honestly, to us,
- 44:46Speaker 4: success is just we keep going. We like I have
- 44:49Speaker 4: a buddy of mine. I was describing my job to
- 44:51Speaker 4: him and he's like, it's kind of like you wake
- 44:54Speaker 4: up every morning unemployed. And I thought about it him, like, oh, crap.
- 44:57Speaker 4: You're right, because whatever idea I did yesterday, it's gone.
- 45:01Speaker 4: It's on its way to Mars. And the only way
- 45:03Speaker 4: this is going to work is when we come up
- 45:04Speaker 4: with our next idea. So we just we keep going.
- 45:09Speaker 4: And we definitely trust in each other's opinions and thoughts
- 45:13Speaker 4: as a team, and we've built a good team around
- 45:16Speaker 4: us to help kind of cultivate that trust. But yeah,
- 45:21Speaker 4: like we just keep going.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I do with with especially with AHD.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Do you wake up in the middle of the night
- 45:28Speaker 2: with ideas and go, oh my god, this is an
- 45:29Speaker 2: amazing idea for a video.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I got to write it down.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Is use your mind just going all the time about
- 45:34Speaker 2: what are we going to film next?
- 45:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, And I don't always say them out loud,
- 45:41Speaker 4: and maybe I should, I don't know. But sometimes I
- 45:44Speaker 4: come up with a great idea and then when I
- 45:45Speaker 4: say it out loud, I realize as I'm saying it
- 45:47Speaker 4: how ridiculous it is.
- 45:49Speaker 6: Shoad ideas too, But.
- 45:51Speaker 4: But yeah, my brain's working pretty much most of the time,
- 45:55Speaker 4: and when it does shut down, it is So maybe
- 45:58Speaker 4: you've notice this with you or with your other when
- 46:00Speaker 4: it does shut down, when you can find like a
- 46:02Speaker 4: good TV show or a Crossford puzzle or something. You
- 46:05Speaker 4: are on another planet and you were not to be
- 46:08Speaker 4: like if someone says something to you, like you may
- 46:10Speaker 4: not even hear them. But when when when you have
- 46:13Speaker 4: a chance to just kind of like space out and think.
- 46:17Speaker 4: Sometimes it's in the middle of the night or in
- 46:18Speaker 4: the shower or wherever you are. It's kind of a
- 46:20Speaker 4: great asset of an ADHD brain because it's got all
- 46:23Speaker 4: of this stimulus coming at you, and it's the reason
- 46:26Speaker 4: why you have these random thoughts all the time. And
- 46:28Speaker 4: it's the reason why people with ADHD are great innovators
- 46:31Speaker 4: and great creatives. And some of them work in this
- 46:34Speaker 4: business and the rest of them were people like Thomas
- 46:36Speaker 4: Edison and you know Leoni DaVinci like famously ADHD.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Speaking of ADHD, I have a couple random content NERD
- 46:45Speaker 3: questions for you. Okay, first one, coming off the Amazing Race, right,
- 46:50Speaker 3: it's a you know, huge show. How much of a
- 46:53Speaker 3: bump or audience increase did you see relative to your
- 46:57Speaker 3: YouTube everything else?
- 46:59Speaker 6: Very small?
- 46:59Speaker 7: I think that the CBS Amazing Race audience is not
- 47:05Speaker 7: a high digital audience, so not huge.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Yeah, what were you surprised by that did you go
- 47:11Speaker 3: in and thinking like, hey, mate, no, you're just like no.
- 47:14Speaker 7: I think we were very aware of that. I think
- 47:17Speaker 7: it's different when you're on Survivor or on Big Brother,
- 47:21Speaker 7: on the you know, Real Housewife. I think those shows
- 47:23Speaker 7: are followed by a younger population, perhaps, but we knew.
- 47:27Speaker 7: My mother even told us, She's like, this show's not
- 47:29Speaker 7: necessarily going to help you, but it could certainly hurt you,
- 47:32Speaker 7: so be careful what you put out there.
- 47:34Speaker 4: You know what it was great for like my aunts
- 47:36Speaker 4: and my uncles who I haven't been able to explain
- 47:39Speaker 4: my job to.
- 47:43Speaker 6: Job.
- 47:43Speaker 4: We are, Uncle, Yeah, we are in these but then
- 47:46Speaker 4: we do the amazing race and he's like, oh, I see.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Now, Yeah I get it.
- 47:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I legitimize best in the eyes of our older relatives.
- 47:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:54Speaker 5: My next content nerd question for you, it's a two parter.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Have you guys ever had an idea you guys thought
- 47:59Speaker 3: were like and this idea is okay for a video
- 48:01Speaker 3: and it blew up?
- 48:03Speaker 5: And also the inverse like, yes, what were those?
- 48:08Speaker 7: I think the ideas I would say, once a week,
- 48:13Speaker 7: we're putting out a video where like this is the
- 48:15Speaker 7: stupidest thing ever. Let's see how it does. And I'm
- 48:18Speaker 7: pleasantly surprised. What was the Oh the.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Pillows one did really well, and that one like no
- 48:23Speaker 4: one was the one about the fifteen decoradive pillows.
- 48:26Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I was excited about that one, I would say.
- 48:28Speaker 7: And there even you know, remember when that is a
- 48:31Speaker 7: solar eclipse was happening. Oh yeah, that's I was like,
- 48:34Speaker 7: we need to do something about that. It's happening today,
- 48:36Speaker 7: the solar clips. We need to do something. And he goes, hey,
- 48:39Speaker 7: hand me that pan and then that he drove my
- 48:43Speaker 7: son to school that pulled over in a parking lot,
- 48:45Speaker 7: and he sort of he had already had a rendition
- 48:47Speaker 7: of total eclipse with the heart because on the recorder
- 48:49Speaker 7: he had already done that, and he sort of did.
- 48:51Speaker 5: A real would have that argu Yeah, And so.
- 48:55Speaker 7: We kind of did a reenactment of what the solar
- 48:56Speaker 7: clips had and we even uploaded so quickly had some
- 48:59Speaker 7: misspelling on it, and it has like a million million,
- 49:03Speaker 7: twenty million views.
- 49:04Speaker 4: Or something like that. This is incredible. But that is incredible. Dan.
- 49:08Speaker 4: There was this one time I was like, I am
- 49:11Speaker 4: I do the best Doctor Phil impression anyone I've ever
- 49:13Speaker 4: heard ever I'm going to do a doctor Phil thing
- 49:15Speaker 4: about parenting.
- 49:17Speaker 6: And so he went on a bald wig.
- 49:19Speaker 4: It got negative views. It's like people returned their computers
- 49:23Speaker 4: when they turned it on.
- 49:24Speaker 6: It was so bad.
- 49:25Speaker 1: What would you say is more creative?
- 49:29Speaker 4: Well, in different ways she is. She's super good at
- 49:34Speaker 4: looking at the world around us and and finding the nugget,
- 49:39Speaker 4: finding the funny nugget. Like it's sort of like the
- 49:41Speaker 4: way a stand up comedian would say, have you ever
- 49:43Speaker 4: noticed blank? She's excellent at that.
- 49:45Speaker 7: But what I think we compliment each other. Well, like
- 49:48Speaker 7: I noticed we have this I don't know in your house.
- 49:50Speaker 7: So I do a lot of online shopping and there's
- 49:51Speaker 7: a stack outside our back door boxes that just I
- 49:56Speaker 7: don't break down. I don't, but I'm like, maybe I'll
- 49:58Speaker 7: keep them. And so I just have the stack of
- 50:00Speaker 7: pretty good boxes. And so I said, depend, I'm like,
- 50:03Speaker 7: we should do something about but.
- 50:05Speaker 6: I feel like everybody has a stack of boxes. I don't.
- 50:07Speaker 7: I'm such an adult, Like sometimes I'm like, do I
- 50:10Speaker 7: keep them? Definitely not going to break them down? Like
- 50:12Speaker 7: and so then he took that and he turned it
- 50:15Speaker 7: into a song about He called it like it's a
- 50:18Speaker 7: pretty good box and it was like a thirty second song.
- 50:21Speaker 7: He wrote it, you know, in ten minutes. We shot it,
- 50:24Speaker 7: we put it, and it has many millions views. So
- 50:26Speaker 7: I think like the partnership works. Like I can say
- 50:30Speaker 7: I am more likely to say have you ever noticed?
- 50:32Speaker 4: And then I say, here's how we could maybe do that?
- 50:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Yeah, So you're just a great team.
- 50:37Speaker 4: We're great except when we're fighting.
- 50:39Speaker 6: Define we're fighting.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Sometimes we're good content when you're fighting, right, Yeah.
- 50:45Speaker 5: You guys, ever, like take a step back and pinch
- 50:46Speaker 5: yourself that.
- 50:47Speaker 3: I mean, it seems like you guys would spend an
- 50:49Speaker 3: incredible amount of time together. I have all these amazing experiences,
- 50:52Speaker 3: and your job is it's like essentially finding the funny
- 50:56Speaker 3: things about your life and presenting him to the world.
- 50:59Speaker 5: It's pretty incredible.
- 51:01Speaker 7: It doesn't feel real. We always like once a week
- 51:05Speaker 7: we'll say I think we've reached the end of the internet.
- 51:07Speaker 7: We should probably get real jobs.
- 51:09Speaker 4: Now.
- 51:10Speaker 7: Get so lucky. No, yeah, and almost sort of like guilty.
- 51:15Speaker 7: I mean there's a lot I grew up in a
- 51:16Speaker 7: small town and I'm like I have some survivors guilt
- 51:18Speaker 7: almost of like, oh, I got out and I'm doing
- 51:20Speaker 7: pretty well. So like I feel like a little guilty
- 51:22Speaker 7: and also like it could go away.
- 51:24Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's so. My short answer is I like
- 51:28Speaker 4: to stop and small the roses sometimes when I can.
- 51:31Speaker 4: But then you wake up the next morning and you're unemployed.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, do you guys also have a podcast? Yeah?
- 51:39Speaker 1: Can you tell us a little bit about that.
- 51:41Speaker 4: You're doing great? By the way, thank you.
- 51:43Speaker 5: For all this.
- 51:44Speaker 4: I'm very grateful for all these opportunities, and so, okay,
- 51:49Speaker 4: the podcast is like the one time a week. It's
- 51:52Speaker 4: almost like our amazing race time when we take all
- 51:54Speaker 4: the phones and put them down and just have a
- 51:55Speaker 4: chance to talk to each other or to listen to
- 51:57Speaker 4: someone else and learn something new. And it's funny because
- 52:00Speaker 4: it is still on a digital format, but our podcast
- 52:03Speaker 4: is kind of like our marriage therapy at this point.
- 52:05Speaker 7: Yeah, so, I mean kind of I wish it were,
- 52:07Speaker 7: you know, really pigeonholed into like reality TV ars. I
- 52:11Speaker 7: had sort of a something we can peg it on,
- 52:14Speaker 7: but it's sort of just everything. It's kind of an
- 52:17Speaker 7: everything life podcast.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Now, do you have like a rundown what you're gonna
- 52:23Speaker 2: talk about it?
- 52:23Speaker 4: You just shoot the shit we have, Yes, But it's
- 52:26Speaker 4: a pretty loose rundown. It's and I don't know that
- 52:30Speaker 4: we stay true to it all the time. I know
- 52:32Speaker 4: you guys don't, because I can just tell that you have.
- 52:34Speaker 4: You guys have the ability to kind of go off
- 52:36Speaker 4: on tangents, and I think that's on honestly the best
- 52:39Speaker 4: We have a like a one shooter that kind of
- 52:42Speaker 4: talks about it and points exactly.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the best way. Yeah, just veer off wherever
- 52:47Speaker 1: you want to.
- 52:48Speaker 5: Go, speak at a bullet points.
- 52:49Speaker 3: I have a selfish question for you guys, now that
- 52:50Speaker 3: you've won Amazing Race. Mm hmm, do you have any
- 52:54Speaker 3: more aspirations to go compete and win another show?
- 52:58Speaker 5: And if show? If so, what would that show?
- 53:01Speaker 4: Oh? Wow? So, I here's here's the thing I would.
- 53:04Speaker 4: I would, and you would too. I would rather produce
- 53:07Speaker 4: a season of The Amazing Race than be on it.
- 53:10Speaker 4: And you've said the same thing.
- 53:11Speaker 7: I would rather produce the season of The Amazing Race.
- 53:13Speaker 7: But so here's the okay, survivor, I am endlessly fascinated.
- 53:19Speaker 7: I would self eliminate day one. I just don't. I
- 53:23Speaker 7: can't lie really really well to people, So just not
- 53:27Speaker 7: not that I'm super nice necessarily, but I would rather
- 53:30Speaker 7: just like say it to your face, like I just
- 53:32Speaker 7: I wouldn't have I couldn't amazing television.
- 53:37Speaker 4: Let me give you what should be the answer to Kim.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Kim should go on Dancing with the Stars. She is
- 53:42Speaker 4: a spectacular dancer.
- 53:44Speaker 2: I was there last night, you were Yeah, so Phedro,
- 53:48Speaker 2: who was on Traders with us and has been on Housewife,
- 53:50Speaker 2: does a lot of things. She's a contestant on Dancing
- 53:53Speaker 2: with the Stars. It was my first time in the
- 53:55Speaker 2: audience and I was just telling Dan earlier before you
- 53:57Speaker 2: guys got on that the.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Energy there is so amazing.
- 54:02Speaker 2: I've always been like everyone's like, oh, you should being
- 54:04Speaker 2: down to the stars, and always said that is my
- 54:06Speaker 2: biggest nightmare.
- 54:07Speaker 1: First of all, I can't dance. I'd be so nervous.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I'm so out of my box. As soon as I
- 54:10Speaker 1: walked in, I'm like, I freaking want to be on
- 54:14Speaker 1: Dance with the Stars. This is just amazing.
- 54:16Speaker 7: You should do it. No, we need to watch, we
- 54:19Speaker 7: need to watch. No, you should totally do that. So
- 54:21Speaker 7: I back to your question, Probably my worst nightmare would
- 54:24Speaker 7: be Big Brother, because that's what Dan was on. Yeah,
- 54:27Speaker 7: I know, I know, I think everybody watching twenty four
- 54:31Speaker 7: to seven at least with an amazing race and survivor,
- 54:34Speaker 7: Like there are moments when the cameras aren't there so
- 54:37Speaker 7: being watched and then always having to be sort of
- 54:39Speaker 7: like in competition.
- 54:41Speaker 6: I would die.
- 54:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I would have a touch any.
- 54:44Speaker 2: Of the non competition reality. Would you be on a
- 54:46Speaker 2: housewife show?
- 54:48Speaker 6: We would be really boring.
- 54:50Speaker 4: Yeah, we would be what do you be?
- 54:52Speaker 3: You guys are always like doing these crazy videos?
- 54:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't think we.
- 54:58Speaker 7: First of all, we live in Raleigh, North Carolina, and
- 55:00Speaker 7: that would be not good for the Housewives franchise.
- 55:03Speaker 6: Because I bet it would.
- 55:04Speaker 1: I think could do any town, any.
- 55:06Speaker 4: Town, honestly, it would be like a next door, the
- 55:09Speaker 4: next door.
- 55:10Speaker 7: What is good about rally is there are a lot
- 55:12Speaker 7: of women who will just say bless your heart instead
- 55:15Speaker 7: of actually like saying what they want to say.
- 55:17Speaker 2: My grandma used to say that bless your heart, and
- 55:20Speaker 2: that's kind of like you to me exactly.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Nowadays I'm like, bless your heart. I just want to
- 55:25Speaker 1: tell them.
- 55:25Speaker 7: To Yeah, so the middle finger or it's you're really dumb,
- 55:30Speaker 7: so you have to be able to translate your heart,
- 55:33Speaker 7: I think, But I think it would just be really boring,
- 55:36Speaker 7: but yeah, sure, like if they were.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Sure, you can find a group of friends that could
- 55:39Speaker 2: just be hilarious because I feel like you're you both
- 55:43Speaker 2: are very raw. You don't censor yourself, You're not like
- 55:47Speaker 2: I mean, come on, we were talking about pooping your pants.
- 55:49Speaker 1: It's a minute out the gates.
- 55:51Speaker 2: So like a lot of people on reality TV, like
- 55:53Speaker 2: they don't want to go there and they want to
- 55:56Speaker 2: look like they're perfect and that never works out.
- 55:58Speaker 5: And I know you got to show any what schopen.
- 56:02Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, Well, I'm not qualified for any of
- 56:04Speaker 4: the shows. I would want to gone. I would want
- 56:06Speaker 4: to go on the Masked Singer just because I want
- 56:09Speaker 4: one of those badass masks.
- 56:11Speaker 8: And I like the problem is that I'll take it
- 56:16Speaker 8: you're Tony Hawk. I'm not Tony Hawk. I look like him.
- 56:22Speaker 1: Yeah that's funny.
- 56:24Speaker 4: So I would do that or uh, you know what
- 56:28Speaker 4: any of the really like heavily physically challenging ones that
- 56:32Speaker 4: are less less dramatic. Yeah, but survivors, so Caddy, I
- 56:36Speaker 4: would get voted off immediately. I would not. I would
- 56:39Speaker 4: not form an alliance because if you form an alliance
- 56:41Speaker 4: with someone, that means you're not you're like excluding someone else.
- 56:44Speaker 4: I just don't have I'm not a good exclusionary person.
- 56:48Speaker 4: I would do deal Dealer Island Island like the combination
- 56:53Speaker 4: of the two things and the.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Weirdest I've never seen that one and all that that.
- 56:56Speaker 4: Was the most bizarre show ever, and I found that
- 56:59Speaker 4: in credibly amusing.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my god, that's a long answer. I know
- 57:05Speaker 2: we're running out of time, but I want to ask
- 57:06Speaker 2: you one question. You guys are together all the time.
- 57:11Speaker 2: How do you maintain a healthy marriage when you're working
- 57:14Speaker 2: with your partner and spend so much time together?
- 57:19Speaker 7: At Tuesday, I will say, so, we we do have
- 57:23Speaker 7: a great team Anne, Marie and Sam who worked with us.
- 57:26Speaker 7: Our marriage improved and our marriage changed. When we hired people.
- 57:29Speaker 4: We needed tie breakers.
- 57:30Speaker 7: We needed a tie breaker, and we needed boundaries. So
- 57:34Speaker 7: so we actually we do stop work at five. We
- 57:37Speaker 7: don't start talking about work until the next morning. So
- 57:39Speaker 7: we had we had, but we had to learn boundaries.
- 57:41Speaker 7: We had boundaries. Yeah, we are sitting here in our
- 57:44Speaker 7: like finished attic spaces is where Pen works. I have
- 57:46Speaker 7: an office downstairs. We work in different spaces. We have
- 57:49Speaker 7: sort of different jobs within the company. But then yesterday
- 57:53Speaker 7: we went to an event we saw friends speak. She
- 57:55Speaker 7: did great, and we were driving home and we went
- 57:58Speaker 7: out to dinner and we just didn't talk, and he's like,
- 58:00Speaker 7: are you done with me today?
- 58:02Speaker 6: I'm like, you know what, I'm just doding with words today. Yeah,
- 58:04Speaker 6: I'm used on my words.
- 58:06Speaker 4: And there was no like he laughed. We're like, oh, yeah,
- 58:08Speaker 4: we're done.
- 58:09Speaker 7: And so we were sitting at the bar because we
- 58:12Speaker 7: just grab a quick right, and we just sat in
- 58:13Speaker 7: silence and steered. So I think, knowing what, he didn't
- 58:16Speaker 7: get offended when I'm like, I can't talk to me
- 58:19Speaker 7: right now, I'm done with me.
- 58:20Speaker 2: I spent a lot of time with my husband and
- 58:22Speaker 2: our offices are right next to each other.
- 58:24Speaker 1: And I said to him, we've been together fourteen years.
- 58:26Speaker 2: And I said, wow, you know what, I'm so surprised,
- 58:30Speaker 2: I'm not sick of you. And he looked at me
- 58:32Speaker 2: and goes, is that like a compliment, like I and
- 58:35Speaker 2: I go, yeah, it is.
- 58:36Speaker 4: The ultimate compliment.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I get sick of people.
- 58:38Speaker 2: So easy, and I really not sick of you. You
- 58:40Speaker 2: annoy me sometimes, but I'm not sick of you.
- 58:43Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean so, just before this started, we've learned
- 58:46Speaker 4: boundaries like I came up here with an apple and
- 58:48Speaker 4: she had to go stand somewhere.
- 58:50Speaker 6: Else because he was chewing.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Yeah, like there, oh my god, that's my thing. Yeah,
- 58:54Speaker 1: I cannot stand it. We have to turn at dinner time.
- 58:58Speaker 1: We have to turn a little music on.
- 59:00Speaker 6: Oh wow, okay, oh just any.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Chewing, any chewing.
- 59:04Speaker 2: I have like that sensory issue. I can't stand people
- 59:07Speaker 2: talking to me. I can't sit at a restaurant.
- 59:10Speaker 7: It's like the extreme bain and and it's an auditory
- 59:13Speaker 7: like it triggers my anxiety.
- 59:16Speaker 1: That's how I am. I I will punch you in
- 59:18Speaker 1: the throat if I have to hear you your coffee
- 59:21Speaker 1: chew your food. And Eddie has realized that's just who
- 59:25Speaker 1: I am. And my kids are like that too. They
- 59:27Speaker 1: can't stand it either. So sometimes I got to get
- 59:30Speaker 1: up and walk away.
- 59:31Speaker 7: Yeah, so I just walked. He goes, hey, cause you
- 59:33Speaker 7: know we're about to log on you gut, do you
- 59:34Speaker 7: want to come over? I'm like, I'm just waiting for
- 59:36Speaker 7: you to be done with your apple, and I sat down.
- 59:39Speaker 5: There's no offense to that. That's amazing.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Well, no, because I've seen it before, and that's she
- 59:44Speaker 4: was making an effort to kind of allow me to
- 59:46Speaker 4: eat and and and so the least I could do
- 59:50Speaker 4: is say thank you, I'm sorry. I think, like just
- 59:54Speaker 4: you probably know this tooth stammer, there's you're going to
- 59:57Speaker 4: be walking on eggshells when you first get married to
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: your spouse, and then you would walk on eggshells again
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: if you move into a house with them, if you
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: work in a job together, and working it out and
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: like telling people, being mature and telling people what you
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: want and what you need has been to me the
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: secret to us like not only like being able to
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: work together, but I think actually enjoying working with each
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: other more than we do with other people.
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: Now.
