- 0:00You might not realize it, but something besides yourself is running the show, often without
- 0:14your permission.
- 0:15And if you don't understand it, it can really mess with your success.
- 0:19The subconscious mind works behind the scenes.
- 0:21It shapes your thoughts, your habits, your reactions, it's powerful and it's sneaky.
- 0:27So today I want to pull back the curtain to show what's really going on inside our
- 0:32heads.
- 0:33You're about to learn why your subconscious mind is the real boss of your actions.
- 0:37How it can sabotage your success without you even noticing.
- 0:41Why most self-help advice and mine hacks are total BS and what you can do to finally
- 0:48take control and make it work for you.
- 0:51Are you ready to take charge?
- 0:53Let's get into it.
- 0:55The first we have to ask, what is the subconscious mind?
- 0:59Well, have you ever driven somewhere then realized you don't remember the trip?
- 1:04That's your subconscious on autopilot.
- 1:07It takes over and lets you zone out while it handles all the details without bothering
- 1:11your conscious mind.
- 1:13You can imagine your subconscious mind as an iceberg.
- 1:16The small part above water is your conscious mind, the thoughts, the decisions you're
- 1:21aware of.
- 1:22But below the surface lies the massive unseen bulk, that's your subconscious.
- 1:28But it's more practical to think of your subconscious as your silent business partner.
- 1:33Sometimes it's super helpful and steers you in the right direction.
- 1:37Other times it messes things up and leaves you to deal with the fallout.
- 1:41Either way it's working behind the scenes 24-7.
- 1:44It controls your habits, your fears, your reactions.
- 1:48It stores all your past experiences, even the ones you don't consciously remember.
- 1:53It's pretty wild, right?
- 1:55Here's how it actually works.
- 1:57So you touch a hot stove as a kid.
- 2:00Your conscious mind thinks out, that hurts.
- 2:03But your subconscious mind goes to work and files away the experience.
- 2:07The next time you're near a stove, it sends a quick warning.
- 2:11Don't touch that.
- 2:12Now this can be great for survival.
- 2:14But what if your subconscious is filled with outdated, negative or just plain wrong beliefs?
- 2:21Then it can lead to subconscious behaviors like you flinch when someone raises their hand
- 2:26quickly, or you feel nervous when speaking in public, even though there's no reason to
- 2:31be.
- 2:32Or you bite your nails when you're stressed without thinking about it.
- 2:36These actions are driven by your subconscious mind, not your conscious choices.
- 2:41It's acting on autopilot, trying to protect you based on past experiences.
- 2:47Now you might not think flinching or biting your nails are serious issues, but if you
- 2:53want to start and run a business, your subconscious mind can seriously mess everything up.
- 3:00Your subconscious mind is powerful, but it's not perfect.
- 3:03It needs guidance and occasional updates to serve you better.
- 3:08And sure, it can work for you or against you.
- 3:11On the bright side, it helps you form good habits.
- 3:15Once you consciously decide to exercise, your subconscious starts to remind you to do it.
- 3:20It keeps you safe by reacting quickly to danger, often faster, and your conscious mind can
- 3:25process.
- 3:26But then there's a dark side.
- 3:28It can hold you back with limiting beliefs.
- 3:30If you fail that something before, your subconscious might tell you you'll always fail.
- 3:35It can make you react rationally.
- 3:37Those quick judgments and fears aren't always accurate, but they feel very real.
- 3:44Letting your subconscious habit drive your life is a very dangerous game.
- 3:49You might think you're in control, but often you're not.
- 3:53That can sabotage your success without you even noticing.
- 3:56Some examples include when you avoid taking risk because you fear failure, or when you doubt
- 4:01your abilities despite your past successes.
- 4:04Or when you procrastinate on important tasks and sabotage your progress.
- 4:08For example, let's say you hesitated to launch a new product because you feared it wouldn't
- 4:12sell.
- 4:13That's your subconscious playing tricks.
- 4:15The market might be ready, but your outdated beliefs are holding you back.
- 4:19So how do you make sure you don't fall into that trap?
- 4:22Well, most advice on how to program your subconscious is BS.
- 4:27Because there's no shortage of gurus dishing out advice on how to hack your mind.
- 4:31And while some of the advice will work for some people, I personally found much of it
- 4:35to be useless.
- 4:36I want to look at some of the most common examples I've seen when I was researching for this
- 4:40video.
- 4:41The first thing I see a lot of is positive affirmations and auto-suggestions.
- 4:45You've probably heard that positive affirmations are the key to success.
- 4:48Just tell yourself you're amazing and everything will fall into place.
- 4:52Sound simple, right?
- 4:53But the truth is that positive affirmations can mess you up, especially if you're struggling
- 4:58with anxiety or depression.
- 5:00Because why?
- 5:01Positive affirmations are supposed to work by getting you to focus on your strengths.
- 5:05They're meant to shift your mindset from, I can't to, I can't.
- 5:09But what if you don't really believe what you're saying?
- 5:12What if deep down those words feel like lies?
- 5:15If you're already feeling low, repeating phrases like, I am worthy of success can actually
- 5:19backfire.
- 5:21Instead of lifting you up, they can make you feel even worse.
- 5:24Now why?
- 5:25Because your brain knows when something doesn't match your reality.
- 5:28When you say I am confident, but you feel insecure, your mind starts arguing with itself.
- 5:34This internal conflict creates stress and tension.
- 5:36And if you're prone to anxiety or depression, it can trigger a self-defeating spiral.
- 5:40The second thing I see a lot of is hypnosis and some gliminal audio.
- 5:45Now you might have heard that hypnosis is a magical tool that can rewire your brain.
- 5:50But if you're a natural skeptic like me, it's not going to do a thing for you.
- 5:54That's because hypnosis doesn't work unless you believe in it.
- 5:58It's pure placebo.
- 5:59Let me give you an example.
- 6:01I was actually at a hypnosis seminar and the instructor was guiding everyone through
- 6:05the process.
- 6:06He told the group to relax their eyes so much that he couldn't open them no matter how
- 6:09hard they tried.
- 6:11Most people followed along, but one guy didn't.
- 6:13His eyes popped right open.
- 6:15Why?
- 6:16Because he didn't buy into it.
- 6:17He wasn't convinced so it didn't work.
- 6:20Here's the thing.
- 6:21Your mind is very powerful.
- 6:23If you're not on board with the idea of hypnosis, your brain will resist.
- 6:28It's like a mental barrier that says, you can't make me.
- 6:32That's especially true if you associate hypnosis with something negative like weakness
- 6:36or loss of control.
- 6:38It's not just hypnosis.
- 6:39The same goes for subliminal audio.
- 6:41Those recordings that claim to change your life while you sleep, they won't work unless
- 6:46you already believe they will.
- 6:48The third thing I see a lot of people recommending is to surround yourself with positivity.
- 6:54Surrounding yourself with positivity sounds great, right?
- 6:57But you're creating an echo chamber.
- 6:59When you only allow positive voices, you shut out critical thinking.
- 7:04Think about it.
- 7:05Critically, if everyone around you is constantly telling you how great you are, where is the
- 7:09room for growth?
- 7:10You need to hear the hard truths, not just fluffy affirmations.
- 7:14It isn't just me musing.
- 7:16Look at kids who are showered with participation trophies and praised for just showing up.
- 7:22Did they become confident winners?
- 7:23No.
- 7:24This positive environment just produces losers.
- 7:28George Carlin nailed it when he said, there are no losers anymore.
- 7:32Everybody wins.
- 7:33Everybody gets a trophy.
- 7:35But what happens when these kids grow up?
- 7:38They step into the real world and they hear something new.
- 7:41You lost Bobby, you're a loser.
- 7:43Imagine that moment.
- 7:45You've been told you're a winner your whole life, but suddenly reality hits.
- 7:49Your boss won't give you a trophy for just showing up.
- 7:52He'll tell you to clean out your desk if you don't perform.
- 7:55This false positivity doesn't prepare you for the real challenges of life.
- 8:00It sets you up for failure.
- 8:02And the fourth thing I see people recommend is positive visualization.
- 8:08Positive visualization is just wishful thinking.
- 8:11It's day dreaming about your ideal life instead of actually working towards it.
- 8:15Yeah, sure.
- 8:16It feels great to imagine yourself living that dream.
- 8:19You picture the perfect business, the freedom, the success, but here's the problem.
- 8:25Visualization without action is a trap.
- 8:27It tricks you into feeling like you've accomplished something when you haven't done anything.
- 8:31Now, you might tell yourself that visualizing success will attract it to you, but the
- 8:36truth is that no amount of mental imagery is going to replace hard work.
- 8:40Studies have shown that sharing your goals gives you a quick dopamine hit, but it also
- 8:44leads to complacency.
- 8:46You start to believe success is inevitable just because you've imagined it.
- 8:50That's very dangerous thinking.
- 8:51You need to be grounded in reality.
- 8:54Your business won't grow just because you spend a few minutes each morning imagining
- 8:57that it will.
- 8:58It grows because you make smart decisions and you put in the work every single day.
- 9:02Consider this.
- 9:03While you're sitting here day dreaming, someone else is out there grinding.
- 9:06They're making calls or closing deals or pushing their business forward.
- 9:10I know it sounds cliche, but dreams don't work unless you do.
- 9:14Now the last thing that I see people speak about online that teach over that can sort
- 9:19of help you get ahead in life is reframing challenges with euphemisms.
- 9:25Soft euphemistic language is just a way to avoid the truth.
- 9:29It doesn't change reality.
- 9:30It just hides it and hiding the truth is always a dangerous game.
- 9:34Let's pull out another George Carlin quote, poor people used to live in the slums.
- 9:38Now the quote unquote economically disadvantaged occupy substandard housing in the inner cities.
- 9:46And they're broke and they don't have a quote negative cash flow position.
- 9:50They're broke because a lot of them were fired.
- 9:53Management wanted to quote curtail redundancies in the human resources area.
- 9:58So many people are no longer quote viable members of the workforce.
- 10:02You get it.
- 10:03The point is obvious.
- 10:05When you dress up the truth with nice words, you're not helping anyone.
- 10:08Infemisms spare us the discomfort, but at the cost of clarity.
- 10:13If you're struggling with a failing product, don't call it market misalignment.
- 10:17Call it what it is.
- 10:18It's a flop.
- 10:20Drop the soft language, get real with yourself and your business.
- 10:23And it's the only way that you're going to make real progress.
- 10:27Now I know you're asking Scott, if all that is BS, what should you do instead?
- 10:33Great question.
- 10:34Glad you asked.
- 10:35I've torn down five of the most common pieces of advice you'll find.
- 10:38It's only fair.
- 10:39I equip you with five of my go-to methods.
- 10:42They're not as glamorous, but they also don't require you to believe in any woo-woo.
- 10:46The first thing you should always do is outwork yourself doubt.
- 10:50We all have moments of self doubt.
- 10:52That just makes us human.
- 10:54And it's in those moments you should remind yourself of your past wins.
- 10:58David Goggins calls it the cookie jar method.
- 11:01The cookie jar is a mental collection of your toughest wins.
- 11:04Sometimes when you push through pain and suffering and emerged victorious.
- 11:09When Dell creeps in, reach into the jar, pull out a memory and remind yourself of what
- 11:13you're capable of.
- 11:14But you're going to ask, well, what if I don't have enough or any past wins?
- 11:19Then you have to go out there and get them.
- 11:22As James Clear puts in his book, every action you take is a vote for the type of person
- 11:27you wish to become.
- 11:28No single instance will transform your beliefs.
- 11:31But as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.
- 11:36In other words, small actions repeated consistently build undeniable proof of who you are.
- 11:42This is the harsh truth about building confidence.
- 11:46You have to work for it.
- 11:47Alex Ramosi sums it up beautifully.
- 11:50Confidence without evidence is delusion.
- 11:52You don't become confident by shouting affirmations in the mirror, but by having a stack of undeniable
- 11:57proof that you are who you say you are.
- 12:00Give yourself so much goddamn proof that you are the version of yourself you want to
- 12:03be, and you'll become them, outwork, yourself, doubt.
- 12:07So you put in the work day after day until the evidence of your success is undeniable.
- 12:12It's not about wishing or hoping, it's about proving.
- 12:16You must build that stack of undeniable proof to fill up your cookie jar until yourself
- 12:21doubt doesn't stand a chance.
- 12:23The second thing you have to do is to be process oriented instead of goal oriented, focusing
- 12:29on big goals can easily make you feel inadequate.
- 12:32The bigger the goal, the more overwhelming it seems.
- 12:35It's very easy to get lost in the sheer size of what you want to achieve, and you end up
- 12:39feeling like you're constantly falling short.
- 12:41But here's the thing.
- 12:42The magic doesn't happen in the goal itself.
- 12:45It happens in the process.
- 12:47Break down your massive goals into small manageable steps.
- 12:50Completing each of those small steps gives you the same dopamine boost as hitting a big
- 12:55milestone.
- 12:56Again, James Clear explains this perfectly.
- 12:59Making a goal only changes your life for the moment.
- 13:01That's the counter-attuitive thing about improvement.
- 13:04We think we need to change our results, but the results are not the problem.
- 13:08What we really need to change are the systems that cause those results.
- 13:13So let's say your goal is to build a million dollar business.
- 13:16That could be huge, right?
- 13:17But if you obsess over that number, you're going to feel like you're never making progress.
- 13:22Instead, you want to focus on the systems that will get you there.
- 13:25To daily tasks, the habits, the consistent actions, these are what will actually move
- 13:30the needle.
- 13:31Think of it this way.
- 13:32If you love the process, the results will follow.
- 13:35You're not chasing a finish line.
- 13:37You're committing to a cycle of continuous improvement.
- 13:39And that's where real long-term success comes from.
- 13:43The third thing I want you to do, negative visualization.
- 13:47Life isn't always rainbows and sunshine.
- 13:50Sometimes things go wrong.
- 13:51Really wrong.
- 13:52But you can prepare for it.
- 13:53Instead of pretending everything will be perfect, try to use negative visualization to imagine
- 13:58the worst case scenario.
- 13:59Why?
- 14:00Because it helps you practice indifference to the chaos that life can throw at you.
- 14:05I'm not telling you to be a pessimist, just be a realist.
- 14:08The stoics, some of the wisest thinkers in history, they mastered this technique.
- 14:12They would vividly picture their worst fears coming true.
- 14:16Not to scare themselves, but to prepare.
- 14:18By imagining the worst, they made it less terrifying.
- 14:21And when you do this, you realize that most of your fears are just that.
- 14:25They're fears.
- 14:26I want you to think of this as mental training.
- 14:28When the worst actually happens, you won't be caught off guard.
- 14:31You'll be ready.
- 14:32You'll be calm.
- 14:33You'll be in control.
- 14:34You'll find that your worst fears often aren't as bad as you imagined.
- 14:38And even if they are, you've already faced them in your mind.
- 14:42Negative visualization is your shield against anxiety.
- 14:45It's your tool to face whatever life throws your way without losing your cool.
- 14:49The fourth strategy I want you to adopt is mindfulness.
- 14:52Now you've probably experienced at some point in your life, your mind constantly racing.
- 14:57You're thinking about that missed opportunity from last week or stressing over tomorrow's
- 15:01big pitch.
- 15:02But here's the truth.
- 15:03Living in the past or future robs you of the present, which is all you truly have.
- 15:08You have to train your mind to focus on the present moment.
- 15:12This simple practice can reduce regret for the past and ease worry about the future.
- 15:17But most people don't do it because they're too busy being trapped in their thoughts.
- 15:21Eckhart toll explains it well in the power of now.
- 15:24All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present.
- 15:29On ease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry, all forms of fear are caused by too much future
- 15:37and not enough presence.
- 15:38Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non forgiveness
- 15:45are caused by too much past and not enough presence.
- 15:48When you're stuck in your head, you're not fully alive.
- 15:51You're either reliving what's already gone or you're worrying about what's yet to
- 15:55come.
- 15:56When you train your mind to say present, you regain control.
- 16:00You see things clearly.
- 16:01You make better decisions and you experience life fully.
- 16:06And the last thing I want you to do is to journal.
- 16:08Now maybe you're already keeping a journal, but if not, I really suggest you start one
- 16:12immediately.
- 16:13Every way to collect your thoughts and track your progress.
- 16:16But I've recently come up with a radical approach to journaling.
- 16:19I want you to start by keeping a rage journal.
- 16:23This is where you let loose.
- 16:24I want you to write down all your unfiltered negative thoughts, every frustration, every
- 16:28anger, every moment that makes you want to scream.
- 16:31Don't hold back.
- 16:32This is your space to get it all out without judgment.
- 16:36Why?
- 16:37Because bottling up those emotions doesn't make them disappear.
- 16:40It just lets them fester.
- 16:42By putting them on paper, you release that pent-up energy and you understand what's really
- 16:46bothering you.
- 16:47Now after you started a rage journal, add a gratitude journal.
- 16:51Here you do the opposite.
- 16:52Detail everything positive you enjoy about life no matter how small.
- 16:56Shift your focus to what's going right.
- 16:59Gratitude has actually been shown to boost your mood and increase overall happiness.
- 17:03So writing down what you're thankful for helps you appreciate the good things and it
- 17:07really keeps you grounded.
- 17:09Finally, compare the two journals.
- 17:11You'll often find that the negative thoughts in your rage journal are just fiction, blown
- 17:15out of proportion by stress or fear.
- 17:18The gratitude journal, on the other hand, reflects the reality of what's good in your life.
- 17:23The comparison gives you an accurate picture of your world.
- 17:27Remember, your subconscious mind is either your best friend or your worst enemy.
- 17:32It is time to take control with these five steps.
- 17:35It's time to stop letting it run the show.
- 17:37It's not easy, but it's worth it.
- 17:40After wrapping things up, here's what I need you to remember.
- 17:43Your subconscious can be a bull in a china shop if it's left unchecked.
- 17:47Most mind hacks just feel good fluff.
- 17:49Don't fall for them.
- 17:51True change comes from consistent action, not wishful thinking, and please stay grounded
- 17:55in reality.
- 17:56Face your fears, don't hide from them.
- 17:59You've got the tools, now it's up to you to use them.
- 18:02Take charge of your mind, don't let it take charge of you.
