- 0:00Speaker 1: We want to do. Now, it's just well, I've just
- 0:01Speaker 1: come back from a break in Cyprus. I'm going to
- 0:03Speaker 1: tell you about that because it wasn't all holiday now.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Myself and missus Ferrett Sue Elkins were marshaling at an
- 0:10Speaker 1: event called the Leptos Cypress International Four Day Challenge, where
- 0:14Speaker 1: runners including several friends and folks and athletes took part,
- 0:17Speaker 1: testing themselves in a six k time trail and an
- 0:21Speaker 1: eleven k trail hill run, a very very hilly trail,
- 0:25Speaker 1: half marathon and a ten k city run, so that's
- 0:29Speaker 1: one different run every day for four days. The six
- 0:33Speaker 1: k time trail on the first day and the ten
- 0:35Speaker 1: k city running path ors were on flat terrains, but
- 0:37Speaker 1: the two in between, the eleven k hill run followed
- 0:40Speaker 1: by the half marathon were on pretty brutal hilly Unevil
- 0:44Speaker 1: uneven trail paths now. Although I didn't run run it,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but I was driven through the two hilly ones and
- 0:52Speaker 1: to our marshaling spots, and I can tell you that
- 0:54Speaker 1: at certain points the car was struggling to get up
- 0:57Speaker 1: some of those slopes it was so hilly. Now, there
- 0:59Speaker 1: are about two hundred and fifty runners from all over
- 1:02Speaker 1: Europe and despite the very testing conditions, the competitors were
- 1:05Speaker 1: all very friendly and determined to have a good time,
- 1:08Speaker 1: many coming back year after year. Going out on a plane,
- 1:11Speaker 1: we bumped into former Folks to An athlete and London
- 1:14Speaker 1: Marathon winner Mike Gratton, who was instrumental in putting this
- 1:17Speaker 1: event together as it celebrated its twentieth birthday. Local athletes
- 1:22Speaker 1: who took part were Melanroyd Powell, Jane Wren, Alan Randall,
- 1:26Speaker 1: Caroline Curtis, Keith Lyon and Julian Dlbiak who couldn't stay
- 1:30Speaker 1: away after deferring their entry from last year. Star of
- 1:35Speaker 1: the show, Ronnie Wise was Caroline Curtis, who won her
- 1:37Speaker 1: age category in three of the four races six K,
- 1:40Speaker 1: eleven K and ten K, and came second in the
- 1:43Speaker 1: other one, the half marathon, making her second overall in
- 1:47Speaker 1: the four races in her age category. That is one
- 1:50Speaker 1: very fit lady and although she's fear I did see
- 1:53Speaker 1: her on the half marathon and she did look very
- 1:57Speaker 1: very tired, but she done well. Great achievement on the
- 2:01Speaker 1: social side now I understand that mel and Alan performed
- 2:05Speaker 1: an awesome karaoke one night whilst Royd tried to drink
- 2:08Speaker 1: the bar dry of red wine. Now, some of our
- 2:11Speaker 1: friends flew home the same day as the last race
- 2:13Speaker 1: due to commitments in England, but Missus Ferry and myself
- 2:16Speaker 1: we managed to stay on and we also entertained a
- 2:20Speaker 1: total of fourteen of friends at our apartment. We were
- 2:24Speaker 1: staying out on the patio, although it was habitually up
- 2:27Speaker 1: in the Paya hilltops. So big thanks for coming to
- 2:30Speaker 1: join us was for Andy and Jane, Stephen, Jane, Brian
- 2:33Speaker 1: and Dion, John and Jean and David and Melon Royd. Now,
- 2:38Speaker 1: before we go any further, I must mention one gentleman.
- 2:41Speaker 1: His name's Darryl Bressington. Now I've met Daryl quite a
- 2:44Speaker 1: few times when we've been over in the number of years.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Darryl is not very big, but he's very wide. He's
- 2:51Speaker 1: got legs like true trunks. And on the first time trial,
- 2:55Speaker 1: when I saw him coming towards me, I thought he's
- 2:57Speaker 1: never going to get through the next three days. He
- 3:00Speaker 1: looked he was in so much pain because he'd pulled
- 3:02Speaker 1: his calf early on in the week and he was
- 3:06Speaker 1: really struggling. But he managed it. He did all four
- 3:11Speaker 1: and it's amazing now Darryl has been doing well. Let
- 3:15Speaker 1: me just say this. Over the years I saw Darryl
- 3:19Speaker 1: and he said, yeah, I'm going to do ten, do
- 3:21Speaker 1: ten of them and then call it a day. So
- 3:23Speaker 1: he did ten, and he thought, well, do you know
- 3:25Speaker 1: what I'll do fifteen? So he did fifteen and this
- 3:28Speaker 1: year was his eighteenth one. And I know what's going
- 3:31Speaker 1: to happen. He's going to do the next two, nineteen
- 3:34Speaker 1: and twenty, and then we'll see what happens. So Darryl,
- 3:36Speaker 1: are massive congratulations to you. I don't know what drives
- 3:39Speaker 1: you on that inner thing inside you, but that was
- 3:43Speaker 1: a fantastic achievement doing all four struggling on every single race. Anyway,
- 3:50Speaker 1: it was a lovely adventure, especially nice as while we
- 3:53Speaker 1: were in Cyprus we missed Stormbert and some very cold
- 3:56Speaker 1: English weather. You can't beat a bit of winter sunshine.
- 4:00Speaker 1: We come back to. This record is the Pogues at
- 4:03Speaker 1: the fairy Tale of New York and it's one of
- 4:05Speaker 1: our sponsored Christmas songs one oh five point nine Radio focuston.
- 4:10Speaker 1: This song has been adopted by seven Drunken Nights over
- 4:13Speaker 1: the lease Cliff Hall and the ninth of April the
- 4:15Speaker 1: cast would love to issue all a very happy Christmas
- 4:18Speaker 1: Folkstone's radio station Radio Focuston, And when I came back
- 4:31Speaker 1: off Cyprus on the Friday, I was back on the
- 4:34Speaker 1: mic on the Sunday, dressing up as an elf, comparing
- 4:37Speaker 1: the South Kent Mind a mental Wealth run which included
- 4:40Speaker 1: a lovely warm up by Julie Gibbs, who stood in
- 4:42Speaker 1: last minute to get all the runners in the mood
- 4:45Speaker 1: to the tune of the Black Eyed Peas. I mean,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I've got to think I've really got to thank Julie
- 4:50Speaker 1: because she really stepped out of the comfort zone a
- 4:52Speaker 1: little bit and helped me. And so she even when
- 4:58Speaker 1: she was practicing at home, she even got her usband
- 5:00Speaker 1: Malcolm joining in and get it so as you could
- 5:02Speaker 1: get the timing was right, So that was well done
- 5:05Speaker 1: to you, Julie. Well this event was a success on
- 5:08Speaker 1: a blustery day just about as we dodge the rain,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and well I've got in front of me this exclusive
- 5:15Speaker 1: report from South Kemp Mind from the organizer Joe Tolhurst.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So I will do no more than read it out
- 5:21Speaker 1: straight away. South Kemp Mind is freal to announce the
- 5:24Speaker 1: success of his inaugural Mental Health Run, which took place
- 5:28Speaker 1: over the weekend, drawing one hundred spirited runners, joggers and walkers,

- 5:35Speaker 1: mental health initiatives in the local community. The festive five
- 5:40Speaker 1: k event, held along the Picturesque Lees in Folkston, invited

- 5:51Speaker 1: into that and complete a similar route to the popular
- 5:54Speaker 1: park run. From families with young children to season runners,
- 5:58Speaker 1: clocking times under twenty minutes. The event brought the community
- 6:01Speaker 1: together in a heartwarming show of support for mental health awareness.
- 6:05Speaker 1: We are overjoyed by the turnout and the enthusiasm from
- 6:09Speaker 1: our community, said Joe Tolhurst at South Kentmind. Organizing our
- 6:13Speaker 1: first mental health was a leap of faith, but the
- 6:15Speaker 1: overwhelming response has been nothing short of inspiring. Since so
- 6:19Speaker 1: many people reunited in support and mental health reminds us
- 6:22Speaker 1: how crucial our work is. We can't wait to make
- 6:25Speaker 1: the next year's event even bigger, so South kep Mind
- 6:28Speaker 1: plans to establish the Mental Health Run as a cherished
- 6:31Speaker 1: annual tradition every December, with ambitions to expand the event
- 6:35Speaker 1: in the coming years. To learn more about self Kemp Mind,
- 6:39Speaker 1: including how to access services or get involved as a volunteer,

- 6:46Speaker 1: a big thanks to Joe and his team, and we
- 6:50Speaker 1: also thank people like the volunteers that were out there
- 6:52Speaker 1: the first day team most important everyone who took part.
- 6:56Speaker 1: So as a way of saying thank you to Julie Gibbs,
- 6:59Speaker 1: my Jews probably sick of this track, but we're going
- 7:03Speaker 1: to play the song that she did the warm up to.
- 7:06Speaker 1: You'll do it, Join in and have a little warm
- 7:07Speaker 1: up at home if we go. The Black Eyed peas
- 7:10Speaker 1: I got a feeling
