Latest / Foul Territory / Brian Snitker steps down in ATL, Albert Pujols next Angels manager?
Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: My corner time.
- 0:05Speaker 2: We were wondering if Brian Snicker was going to continue
- 0:08Speaker 2: to manage the Atlanta Braves, and that will not be
- 0:10Speaker 2: the case. This is it for him, So the twenty
- 0:14Speaker 2: twenty five season is his last as a manager in baseball.
- 0:17Speaker 1: He'll stay with the team in an advisory role. Thoughts
- 0:21Speaker 1: on this and how this goes down behind the scenes.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I think I think this was ultimately Smith's decision. I
- 0:29Speaker 3: know I had talked to him about this when I
- 0:31Speaker 3: saw him, and I was there when he managed his
- 0:33Speaker 3: first game and won his first game. I was on
- 0:35Speaker 3: the team at twenty sixteen. He's seventy ish years old
- 0:40Speaker 3: and sort of this was his forty ninth year with
- 0:43Speaker 3: the Braves organization. Next year would be the fiftieth. I
- 0:45Speaker 3: know he didn't just want to completely get out of it,
- 0:47Speaker 3: but he also said, I don't know that I want
- 0:49Speaker 3: to go through one hundred and sixty two games as
- 0:50Speaker 3: a manager. So I think that's what led to this
- 0:53Speaker 3: decision from Snitt. Ultimately with Snit's but hey, you know what,
- 0:57Speaker 3: God bless you, Snit. I hope you get you know,
- 0:59Speaker 3: you get that fiftieth year with Atlanta. I know you're
- 1:01Speaker 3: going to go into an advisory role, just you know,
- 1:04Speaker 3: do what you do man at some point. Listen, here's
- 1:06Speaker 3: the thing about Snith. He has brand kids he loves
- 1:09Speaker 3: spending time with and he gets an opportunity now to
- 1:11Speaker 3: go and spend time with him. So God bless you, Snith.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Enjoy the rest of your life. Man. And you've had
- 1:16Speaker 3: a great run. You won a world series. Something only
- 1:19Speaker 3: two managers in the history of Atlanta in any sport
- 1:22Speaker 3: can say. You and Bobby Cox are the only two
- 1:25Speaker 3: guys to ever win a professional sports championship in Atlanta.
- 1:29Speaker 4: And he's seen in this organization for forty nine years.
- 1:32Speaker 4: That's such an impressive number. But let's say only for
- 1:37Speaker 4: hypothetical that AA Alexanthopolis goes to him and says, hey,
- 1:43Speaker 4: you want to manage again this year? And Snith says,
- 1:47Speaker 4: do you want me to manage again this year? If
- 1:50Speaker 4: I'm Alexanthopolis, I say, our our winning window is right now.
- 1:57Speaker 4: If you're not full one hundred in cause I'm maybe,
- 2:02Speaker 4: I'm thinking I might manage, I might not, Okay, I'm
- 2:06Speaker 4: in Okay, then what are you going to change from
- 2:08Speaker 4: this year? Would be the next question that alex Anthopolis,
- 2:10Speaker 4: because something has to change. You can't just always say
- 2:15Speaker 4: all right, you know the injuries, Yes, the injuries are
- 2:18Speaker 4: a thing, but other teams have injuries, some not as
- 2:22Speaker 4: big as the Braves. How are you going to make
- 2:25Speaker 4: a change, Because to me, I think there does need
- 2:27Speaker 4: to be some type of change because it's not gonna
- 2:29Speaker 4: happen with personnel on the field. The team he has
- 2:33Speaker 4: is the team that I think they're gonna give him
- 2:35Speaker 4: adding a piece here or there.
- 2:39Speaker 1: But what are you saying you wanted him to keep
- 2:42Speaker 1: going or what?
- 2:46Speaker 4: No, I'm saying that that's the conversation. I don't think
- 2:50Speaker 4: alex Anthopolis was just saying, hey, do you want to
- 2:52Speaker 4: manage next year? No, I'd rather not. Okay, we'll move
- 2:56Speaker 4: on to me. If he says yes I want to
- 2:58Speaker 4: manage next year, Alesanthopolis isn't firing him. But if you're
- 3:02Speaker 4: a good GM, which I know Alex Anthopolis is. He's
- 3:05Speaker 4: built this team, he's given these extensions good or bad,
- 3:09Speaker 4: they've put a good product out there. You need to
- 3:12Speaker 4: have an answer of what are you changing? How is
- 3:15Speaker 4: it going to be different? Because you play the same
- 3:17Speaker 4: eight guys every single day for the entire season, which
- 3:21Speaker 4: I think is a bonus. You've played this whole time
- 3:24Speaker 4: without a shortstop that's comparable to the other players around
- 3:29Speaker 4: the field. But you have to have something that he's
- 3:32Speaker 4: going to change. You can't just say we're just gonna
- 3:34Speaker 4: go out there and see you'll throw the balls out
- 3:37Speaker 4: there and see what the boys do. No, Like, I
- 3:39Speaker 4: think he needs to have a plan, Like, how are
- 3:41Speaker 4: we gonna do something different?
- 3:44Speaker 1: Okay, I have a plan.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I'm going to sign a shortstop and I'm going to
- 3:48Speaker 2: cross my fingers that not all five starters are missing
- 3:52Speaker 2: a good.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Junk of the year. That's step one. Brave's finished strong.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Does anybody think the Braves are in a bad spot
- 4:01Speaker 2: for next year?
- 4:02Speaker 3: No? Well, any Austin Riley back he missed a chunk
- 4:05Speaker 3: of the year?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yep.
- 4:06Speaker 3: And what do they do with all these They're gonna
- 4:07Speaker 3: make that decision?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yep, He's gonna come back.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I mean, just yes, is Baldwin or Murphy or Catcher both?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Or do you trade all the answers? You try and
- 4:18Speaker 3: trade Murphy?
- 4:19Speaker 1: Maybe? But I think that that had a nice year.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Michael Harris needs to be second half. Michael Harris right.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Acunya needs to stay healthy because once he came back,
- 4:27Speaker 3: he was pretty good, and then you got to figure
- 4:29Speaker 3: out the bullpen. Iglesias is a free agent. You're gonna
- 4:32Speaker 3: have to make some bullpens.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's not on Snit. That's on Alex. I know.
- 4:36Speaker 3: But Snitt maybe just didn't want to do it. Like
- 4:37Speaker 3: I said, Sti's been doing this for a long time.
- 4:39Speaker 1: No, I understand that. I'm just saying.
- 4:40Speaker 3: He probably just didn't say, hey, you can manage again,
- 4:42Speaker 3: or you can just you can work once a month
- 4:44Speaker 3: and make a travel to the minor leagues and come
- 4:46Speaker 3: around and this and that. It's just like that don't
- 4:49Speaker 3: sound so bad.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think, you know.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I'm I'm also pointing out probably some of the minority online,
- 4:55Speaker 2: but some people were like, oh, Schnitt, he's got to
- 4:58Speaker 2: be gone, like this is the problem, Like shut up,
- 5:02Speaker 2: this has nothing to do with Snit this year. Yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and I think he should get the ultimate respect. They'll
- 5:08Speaker 2: obviously honor him at the ballpark.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I think it's kind of.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Cool if you would figure this out, like with a
- 5:12Speaker 2: week or two to go, because the team wasn't in it,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and then you get to get in uniform and get
- 5:18Speaker 2: the thanks. I know, he didn't know, but like go
- 5:20Speaker 2: to dinner with Alex and like sit down.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And think about it.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It's okay.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I mean, he's gonna get honored. It's fine, right, I
- 5:27Speaker 2: love snit. I thought he did a great job. He's
- 5:29Speaker 2: super emotional. They all show up at the press conference today.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Kratz.
- 5:33Speaker 2: He says he feels like he left the team in
- 5:35Speaker 2: a better spot than when he entered.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I would agree with that.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And you brought them a World Series title, and you
- 5:39Speaker 2: brought them consistent winning.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I mean, you can't ask for much more.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Nobody wins back to back or even a bunch of
- 5:45Speaker 2: titles together in a while now, right, So what he
- 5:48Speaker 2: did is about as much as you can wish for
- 5:51Speaker 2: if you're a baseball fan.
- 5:53Speaker 4: If you look at if you look at their five
- 5:55Speaker 4: starters that were supposed to start games for them this year,
- 5:58Speaker 4: it's ridiculous the fact that Spencer Strider, I think had
- 6:03Speaker 4: the most starts and he didn't come back from the
- 6:06Speaker 4: injury very well, Like he just didn't. He didn't have
- 6:09Speaker 4: a life on his fastball. Not everybody comes back from
- 6:11Speaker 4: Tommy John the first year and is exactly who they
- 6:14Speaker 4: were before. Not everybody, But it's crazy Schwellenbach was down.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Did they get a single start out of Ronaldo Lopez
- 6:24Speaker 4: who was an All Star last year like you are early. Yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 4: I don't remember when he went down, but it's crazy,
- 6:33Speaker 4: like you build a team and then you were trying
- 6:35Speaker 4: to The Braves do better than I think any organization
- 6:39Speaker 4: calling guys up that step in and are huge contributors
- 6:43Speaker 4: to the starting rotation. Huge swelling Box just did it
- 6:47Speaker 4: just the other year. Smith schalv just did it the
- 6:49Speaker 4: other year. But when you have to do it for
- 6:50Speaker 4: all five guys, that's almost impossible. Even even the Dodgers
- 6:55Speaker 4: struggled with that and they had ten starters to the
- 6:58Speaker 4: beginning of the season.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah, Hirst and Walson, you mentioned he had a really
- 7:04Speaker 2: nice find himself moment and here another with the team.
- 7:08Speaker 3: My X factor just drove into for Detroit by the way.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Very nice.
- 7:13Speaker 2: So anyway, congratulations to Snit. Let's move on because there
- 7:17Speaker 2: are a number of other manager in front office changes
- 7:20Speaker 2: going on. Let's hit one that won't take up too
- 7:22Speaker 2: much time. But Bill Schmidt has been running point for
- 7:25Speaker 2: the Rockies for a minute. He's the GM and he
- 7:28Speaker 2: decided that he's going to step down. You never know
- 7:30Speaker 2: how the conversations go behind the scenes, but he said
- 7:34Speaker 2: he felt like the team needed to go in a
- 7:35Speaker 2: different direction. I don't doubt that based on how the
- 7:38Speaker 2: Rockies performed this year in the past few years.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Been there for a long time.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I mean he was in a secondary role, yeah, and
- 7:46Speaker 2: now he's leading the pack. But they need something else.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I mean, the Rockies are going to do an external search.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And if there's one team that needs to think outside
- 7:54Speaker 2: the box more than anyone.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Else, it's Colorado. It's such a unique environment.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It's so difficult, crazy, crazy, and nobody's gonna care. Rockies
- 8:03Speaker 2: fans are all for whatever you want to do. First
- 8:05Speaker 2: of all, they're going to show up second ball.
- 8:07Speaker 3: You're good for anything.
- 8:08Speaker 2: They're like, try it, try it out. I think we're
- 8:10Speaker 2: in a place now where here I'm gonna mention this.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I don't remember the exact details, but Dano Dowd I
- 8:15Speaker 2: think later in his tenure was trying some piggybacking and
- 8:17Speaker 2: some other things. And I think if you had done
- 8:19Speaker 2: that now, people would be like, yep, let's try that
- 8:22Speaker 2: kind of stuff. It was a little early because people
- 8:24Speaker 2: were like a little more get off my lawn.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Still, but I did talk to some people there in
- 8:28Speaker 3: Colorado the organization a little bit. And the thing about
- 8:31Speaker 3: Dano Dowd is like, you got to get syncer balls,
- 8:33Speaker 3: You got to get syncer ballers, And these people are saying, actually, no,
- 8:36Speaker 3: you need to get fly ball pitchers, and we contact
- 8:39Speaker 3: guys that throw the four seamer up and get pop
- 8:42Speaker 3: ups and get strikeouts, because that way it limits the
- 8:45Speaker 3: balls and play. If sncer ballers can't make the ball sink,
- 8:48Speaker 3: guess where sinks over the.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Fence, right? And you need three center fielders, and you.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Need three athletic as sell guys. You need dudes can
- 8:54Speaker 3: mash when when have the Rocky's been good when the.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I want infield mash outfield.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Tracks, and I need guys that can get punch outs.
- 9:03Speaker 3: So you need high v low high guys up in
- 9:06Speaker 3: the zone.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And all of what we're saying is not easy to assembly.
- 9:09Speaker 3: No I know, but I'm just saying you got to
- 9:10Speaker 3: try something different. They're trying these sinkerballers and as soon
- 9:13Speaker 3: as they make one mistake they get whack. They don't
- 9:15Speaker 3: have a lot of high V. Low guys.
- 9:18Speaker 4: I think it's they do have a lot of high
- 9:19Speaker 4: vie low guys, But I think the pitching only just
- 9:22Speaker 4: hit on one specific thing. No, no, no, no. Out of
- 9:25Speaker 4: the pen. They've they've thrown a bunch of guys. They
- 9:28Speaker 4: don't throw strikes. They're not developing them in the minor
- 9:30Speaker 4: leagues to be able to throw strikes. They're rushing them
- 9:32Speaker 4: to the big leagues because they throw ninety seven to
- 9:34Speaker 4: one hundred, and then the big leagues guys are just
- 9:36Speaker 4: like no ball ball. My argument to that Aja would
- 9:40Speaker 4: be no place in the big leagues has as poor
- 9:45Speaker 4: of or has a larger variance of induced vertical break
- 9:51Speaker 4: than in Colorado. So guys that have seventeen inches of
- 9:56Speaker 4: induced vertical break, which is just medium across the board,
- 10:00Speaker 4: it's like one and a half inches less in Colorado.
- 10:03Speaker 4: So they're not getting that induced break. But guys have
- 10:06Speaker 4: had great seasons there, Like it's not what do those
- 10:09Speaker 4: guys do? And then mimic that. Jorge Dela Rosa had
- 10:13Speaker 4: a great career there. Kyle Freeland. I think he was
- 10:15Speaker 4: like almost an eight war player his second year. I
- 10:19Speaker 4: think like seventeen or eighteen, what do they do? Mimic that.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Obaldo.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Also, if you was a high fastball split guy.
- 10:30Speaker 2: If you get somebody sick, then but also somebody you're
- 10:35Speaker 2: saying the induced vertical break goes down, Well, then get
- 10:38Speaker 2: somebody who is like top ten percent, and then it's
- 10:41Speaker 2: not going to be as much of a factor.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Yeah, but you're still gonna you're not gonna get the
- 10:45Speaker 4: like if you get if you get Josh Hayter, if
- 10:48Speaker 4: you get Jonah Thong, two dudes. You know, I'm just
- 10:53Speaker 4: thinking about like unique guys with like induced vertical break,
- 10:58Speaker 4: it's gonna go down. So maybe there's something in that formula.
- 11:03Speaker 4: If you're all about the analytics, that's going to give
- 11:05Speaker 4: you those answers like or Hey, Dalil Rossa. The only
- 11:08Speaker 4: reason I would keep bring him up is because he
- 11:11Speaker 4: grew up in Mexico City. He pitched at higher elevation.
- 11:14Speaker 4: There's something to do with that, and they need to
- 11:17Speaker 4: just hammer that. They need to hammer it and say,
- 11:21Speaker 4: now the rest of the league's doing this, We're gonna
- 11:24Speaker 4: do this. If it doesn't work, where are they They're
- 11:27Speaker 4: the same place they are now with forty four wins.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and Kyle Frieland did that for the record. He
- 11:33Speaker 1: grew up in Denver.
- 11:35Speaker 2: He's an average His numbers park factor in I've been
- 11:39Speaker 2: an average starter, which is fine. He's a three four
- 11:41Speaker 2: starter for them. In that scenario, his AAR looks bad,
- 11:43Speaker 2: but his numbers look good. Hey, make sure you subscribe
- 11:45Speaker 2: to foul Territory next goals. Three hundred one thousand subs
- 11:48Speaker 2: were in the mid two hundred and seventies. Right now,
- 11:51Speaker 2: it's baseball the way it should be covered. So if
- 11:53Speaker 2: you're watching us wherever or listening to us later, and
- 11:55Speaker 2: we'd love if you just hit a free button on
- 11:57Speaker 2: YouTube for us or on whatever pot cast platform you're
- 12:01Speaker 2: listening to.
- 12:01Speaker 3: It helps.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It's free. Oh baby.
- 12:10Speaker 2: We said after we found out that Ron Washington was
- 12:13Speaker 2: out as manager for the Angels that they need a
- 12:17Speaker 2: big name voice who will tell ARTI Marino, No, you
- 12:20Speaker 2: don't know ball.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I know ball. Well. I think they might have found someone.
- 12:24Speaker 2: His name's Albert Poohols, and according to Ken Rosenthal and
- 12:27Speaker 2: some others with the Athletic, he seems to be.
- 12:29Speaker 1: The front runner.
- 12:29Speaker 2: In that article, they say one source told them it
- 12:33Speaker 2: might even be up to Albert at this point. Also,
- 12:37Speaker 2: it sounds like perimination. The GM has nothing to do
- 12:40Speaker 2: with this. This is already saying I want Albert, and
- 12:43Speaker 2: Albert has the call if he wants to do it.
- 12:45Speaker 2: He's also the manager for Team Dominican Republican the WBC.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You probably can't do that.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You can't do that, So he has that decision because
- 12:54Speaker 2: that is a big legacy thing to be able to do.
- 12:56Speaker 1: If you're Albert, he might want.
- 12:57Speaker 3: To do that after he gets after he's done with
- 13:01Speaker 3: the Angels, he can always.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Go back to the Dominican exactly, and the Angel's job
- 13:04Speaker 2: might not be available for you in a year. So
- 13:06Speaker 2: what do we think about Albert Pooholts potentially managing the Angels.
- 13:10Speaker 3: We'll see what happens. I don't know. Does he change
- 13:12Speaker 3: that much? I don't know. I never played with Albert.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I was around Albert a little bit. He's a Hall
- 13:18Speaker 3: of Fame hitter, he's a player, and I don't know.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I mean, Ron Washington had a lot of experience. Didn't help.
- 13:26Speaker 1: They had a bad divorce.
- 13:27Speaker 2: By the way that people are overlooking and now you
- 13:29Speaker 2: know they're saying already loves Albert, so clearly they cleaned it.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Have to pay him. Can they just say this is
- 13:34Speaker 3: your clause, you're after career.
- 13:37Speaker 1: They can just not pay him Albert like.
- 13:39Speaker 3: You like Albert, you're the manager. Oh yeah, this is
- 13:41Speaker 3: your million dollars you get here.
- 13:43Speaker 2: He's gonna make them give him more Albert like yes,
- 13:46Speaker 2: but he is already being paid a million bucks per
- 13:48Speaker 2: year over a ten year span after he retires as
- 13:51Speaker 2: part of his personal services agreement.
- 13:53Speaker 1: But Kratz, remember.
- 13:54Speaker 2: In twenty twenty one, they cut him and I'm looking
- 13:58Speaker 2: at this article from Ken back then, no pomping circumstance,
- 14:01Speaker 2: and it was kind of ugly, and he didn't want
- 14:04Speaker 2: to be on the bench and it was a painful thing.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Ken said to even write about it because of the
- 14:10Speaker 2: legacy of Albert Poohol's But he was not performing for
- 14:12Speaker 2: them for a while and was able to have a
- 14:14Speaker 2: nice finish to his career. But hey, they've clearly patched
- 14:19Speaker 2: things up, and now they're trying to see if he
- 14:21Speaker 2: can rescue the Angels.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Good thing they patched it up. I love to hear that,
- 14:25Speaker 4: because he signed a massive contract with them and he
- 14:28Speaker 4: could have been part of their history. My thing is
- 14:31Speaker 4: go back to history. How many superstars, superstars, Hall of
- 14:36Speaker 4: famers become good managers. I don't know, But maybe he's
- 14:42Speaker 4: going to be the one that will be one of
- 14:43Speaker 4: the first.
- 14:46Speaker 2: He was certainly optimistic as he was in spring training
- 14:49Speaker 2: with the team, what six months ago, you know, they
- 14:53Speaker 2: lost ninety nine games in twenty twenty four. And then
- 14:56Speaker 2: digging up some quotes here, he said, the organization has
- 14:58Speaker 2: done a great job to put a great product on
- 15:00Speaker 2: the field, not just in the big leagues, but minor leagues,
- 15:03Speaker 2: and hopefully they win. And then he was asked to
- 15:06Speaker 2: exactly if he felt like the Angels were putting a
- 15:08Speaker 2: winning product on the field. He said, they put out
- 15:10Speaker 2: a winning product every year. The problem is injuries.
- 15:14Speaker 3: The problem is the record doesn't state that. The problem
- 15:17Speaker 3: is the record doesn't state that they put winning product
- 15:21Speaker 3: out on the field every year.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, hey, that's it's because every team has injuries.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Look at the Houston Astros and injuries they had this year,
- 15:27Speaker 3: they still were a winning team.
- 15:29Speaker 1: There's plenty of teams that all The Angels are not
- 15:31Speaker 1: leading the.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Pack and injuries exactly that point.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they're leading the pack in bad decisions or among
- 15:37Speaker 2: the leaders in bad decisions. But to me that was
- 15:41Speaker 2: like an overly drink the kool age kind of.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I worked for the team and I like my million
- 15:46Speaker 3: dollars a year. Quote.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you're going to have to be more real as
- 15:50Speaker 1: a manager though.
- 15:51Speaker 3: But he hasn't hidden the fact he wants to be
- 15:53Speaker 3: a manager.
- 15:53Speaker 1: He definitely wants to come out.
- 15:55Speaker 3: And said I want to be a manager. We all
- 15:57Speaker 3: thought it would be maybe the Cardinals. Yes, but the
- 15:59Speaker 3: Cardinals are keeping so that closed this. So there, maybe
- 16:02Speaker 3: he goes manages the Dominican for a year and then
- 16:04Speaker 3: goes try and get the Cardinals. If all he's not
- 16:06Speaker 3: there anymore?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Is this a good fit for Albert?
- 16:09Speaker 3: Dude, there's thirty of them. You want to be a manager,
- 16:12Speaker 3: someone offers you, you take it right, Cratzy. There's thirty
- 16:15Speaker 3: of them.
- 16:17Speaker 4: If you want it bad enough, And there's other people
- 16:20Speaker 4: who are pining for a managerial job. To me, I
- 16:23Speaker 4: don't think that creates a situation to have success. If
- 16:27Speaker 4: you're like, oh, I have to I want to be
- 16:30Speaker 4: a manager so bad, I'm gonna go call this guy
- 16:32Speaker 4: and make sure he puts my name out there. Oh man,
- 16:35Speaker 4: tell everybody I want to be a manager. A manager
- 16:39Speaker 4: is a selfless job. It is not a promote yourself
- 16:42Speaker 4: type of thing. If you want to be a manager,
- 16:46Speaker 4: sometimes you got to take some that may not be
- 16:48Speaker 4: a great fit. You gotta do what you know. You
- 16:52Speaker 4: gotta get in line. You gotta get in line. You
- 16:54Speaker 4: can't get the first biggest job. He can't be like
- 16:58Speaker 4: man Albert can't sit there and go man, I hope
- 17:00Speaker 4: Aaron Boone gets fired so I can be the Yankees manager. No,
- 17:03Speaker 4: he's got to take a job. I wouldn't think the
- 17:06Speaker 4: Angels should be a job like this, but they really
- 17:08Speaker 4: have become that in the last few years, where you
- 17:11Speaker 4: go in you get your feet wet. They've tried managers
- 17:14Speaker 4: who've had past success and that didn't go well. So
- 17:18Speaker 4: now they're going for the big name guy who's trying
- 17:20Speaker 4: to get his feet wet as a manager. I just
- 17:24Speaker 4: I'm leery of it. But I'm definitely here to watch it,
- 17:27Speaker 4: that's for sure.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be entertaining.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Boone didn't have experience. He went right from the TV
- 17:31Speaker 3: booth right to manage the Yankees.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Yea, you guys have done this.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Alex Horror wasn't a manager, He's a manage in the
- 17:36Speaker 3: Red Sox.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Oh.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I'm not saying it couldn't work. I'm just saying they're
- 17:39Speaker 2: managing the Red Sox and the Yankees. This is the Angels.
- 17:42Speaker 2: This is difficult. It is it's difficult.
- 17:44Speaker 1: They've had a.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Yourial job has its own difficulty, depending on where you
- 17:48Speaker 3: are and what you're doing.
- 17:49Speaker 2: This will be their sixth manager in the last nine seasons.
- 17:51Speaker 2: It's become a graveyard. Nobody's gotten even to two and
- 17:54Speaker 2: a half seasons of managing this team.
- 17:57Speaker 3: That you need to give somebody five years. Maybe Albert
- 18:00Speaker 3: Poohols is the guy they had. Arty Morino trusts enough
- 18:03Speaker 3: and says, I'll give you the five years. Albert figured out.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I would say five years, and you have to I don't.
- 18:10Speaker 2: It's not even about the money and the job security.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I get to manage this team for five years no
- 18:15Speaker 2: matter what, or you give up the team. But there's
- 18:19Speaker 2: no assurances. He could sign a five year deal and
- 18:20Speaker 2: he can still chop him after two or three years.
- 18:23Speaker 2: I mean he did it to Austmis Madden, Nevin wash
- 18:26Speaker 2: Montgomery temporarily. It's a graveyard. I'm just saying it's a
- 18:32Speaker 2: really challenging position. I mean, look at it right now.
- 18:35Speaker 2: They have a lame duck general manager who's probably still
- 18:37Speaker 2: going to GM the team for another year, who doesn't
- 18:39Speaker 2: get to basically have a say in this, and then
- 18:42Speaker 2: the owner's doing it. That alone should tell you how screwed.
- 18:45Speaker 3: I also remember when they signed pool Holes that wasn't
- 18:47Speaker 3: a general manager? Wasn't that wasn't that also already? And
- 18:50Speaker 3: then when they went and got Rendon, wasn't that also
- 18:52Speaker 3: already because they missed Garrett cole Yes, And he said,
- 18:54Speaker 3: oh no, I'm going to get somebody, so I'm just
- 18:55Speaker 3: gonna give him throw money at Rendome.
- 18:57Speaker 1: He said, who else you got to?
- 19:00Speaker 3: Yes?
- 19:01Speaker 1: You know?
- 19:01Speaker 3: So, I mean, as this isn't the first time that
- 19:03Speaker 3: Already has done something like this, so I don't know
- 19:05Speaker 3: why we're surprised Jerry Reinestorff did this. When he hired
- 19:08Speaker 3: Tony LaRussa, the whole organization thought they had a j
- 19:12Speaker 3: hinch and Jerry's like, not so fast, my friends, I've
- 19:15Speaker 3: got my hire, my buddy.
- 19:17Speaker 1: It's called my team, my money, my team.
- 19:20Speaker 3: My team.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, what I want.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I just feel for Angels fans, that's all. I've had
- 19:23Speaker 2: an up and down relationship with them, but I feel
- 19:25Speaker 2: for them, and I hope that Albert's the guy.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Angels used to be. I mean, I lost the Angels
- 19:29Speaker 3: in two thousand and two in the playoffs. I used
- 19:30Speaker 3: to be an unbelieva organization. Haven't been to the playoffs?
- 19:32Speaker 1: How long since twelve? Trout's what first or second year?
- 19:36Speaker 3: Twenty fourteen? They haven't won a playoff? Games is twenty twelve?
- 19:39Speaker 2: What was the Royal Sweepcrats? You're the Royals xteen fourteen fourteen? Okay, yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 2: now Trats passes prime.
- 19:46Speaker 1: We know that.
- 19:47Speaker 2: So this is the problem with baseball is you have
- 19:50Speaker 2: a legendary player who doesn't get to shine in October.
- 19:53Speaker 2: And that's how our sport stands out, and that's how
- 19:55Speaker 2: any sports stands out. You would never have Lebron not
- 19:57Speaker 2: playing in the playoffs for in his entire career.
- 20:00Speaker 1: It would be really played in the playoffs. Yeah, for
- 20:04Speaker 1: five minutes, that's all.
- 20:06Speaker 2: So Anyway, in summary, it sounds like Pooholes is going
- 20:08Speaker 2: to get the job. It's going to be really fun
- 20:11Speaker 2: to follow.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Oh, it's gonna be awesome.
- 20:12Speaker 2: But if I had to make a decision right now,
- 20:17Speaker 2: I think it's not going to work out. Well, sorry,
- 20:19Speaker 2: that's what we that's our job on this show. Sometimes
- 20:21Speaker 2: you're right, sometimes you're wrong. I think it's this is
- 20:24Speaker 2: it works out for him, Yeah, superstars.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Superstars need to be able to connect with every single player.
- 20:35Speaker 4: You need to connect with the Latin player, the American player,
- 20:39Speaker 4: the pitcher, the relievers, the guys who you have to
- 20:42Speaker 4: send down three times a year, and the superstars. And
- 20:47Speaker 4: if Albert can do that, he becomes a good manager.
- 20:49Speaker 4: If he has no idea what it's like to be
- 20:51Speaker 4: sent down, because in his Hall of Fame career he
- 20:53Speaker 4: never was sent down, he never went through the same
- 20:56Speaker 4: struggles that majority of his team is going to str with,
- 21:01Speaker 4: then it's gonna be hard for him to connect. So
- 21:04Speaker 4: the guys he has around him are gonna be as
- 21:06Speaker 4: far as other coaches are gonna be huge too. So
- 21:10Speaker 4: his success will really dictate based on how he can
- 21:15Speaker 4: connect with the players that he has.
- 21:16Speaker 3: On his roster.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I just think it's weird now to put Perry in
- 21:19Speaker 2: this spot where he's a lame dup.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It's it's it's messy.
