- 0:08Speaker 3: And in this point then in.
- 0:09Speaker 1: At five foot ten, weighing in at pound and coming

- 0:17Speaker 1: in Tucson, Arizona.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Put your hands together for Louis Montemo. Thank you. Welcome
- 0:25Speaker 2: back to another episode of the Mine many podcasts.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Of course, on one half of the show, Jamison Well,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm joined by Louise.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Louise, what's going on, man, Jamison? I am so stoked
- 0:36Speaker 4: to be back on the mic. We got a lot
- 0:37Speaker 4: to talk about today. But first, before anything else, they
- 0:39Speaker 4: gotta ask how was your Thanksgiving?
- 0:42Speaker 2: It was cool.
- 0:42Speaker 1: It was cool. It's as you get older, the holidays
- 0:45Speaker 1: aren't quite the same. It's one of those things to
- 0:49Speaker 1: where you know it's.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It goes by. It's almost like another day.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It seems like unfortunately now of course get to eat
- 0:55Speaker 1: food and family, but for the most part, it feels
- 0:58Speaker 1: like it's just another day.
- 1:00Speaker 2: So it was cool. It was cool being back home
- 1:03Speaker 2: for a day.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And a half. Oh my mom, my family. So no complaints,
- 1:07Speaker 1: but on all it was good. To get back to
- 1:10Speaker 1: the business.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Gotcha.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I see what you were saying about getting older
- 1:14Speaker 4: and it being another day. But I guess Thanksgiving the
- 1:16Speaker 4: one for me that's just been consistent because it's just
- 1:19Speaker 4: stuffing my fat face. Like you know, there's nothing about presence,
- 1:22Speaker 4: and you know, you're excited to get toys when you're
- 1:24Speaker 4: a kid, it's different when you're adult. I don't know,
- 1:25Speaker 4: Thanksgiving just just eat and pass out during the middle
- 1:28Speaker 4: of the day and then drink some wine.
- 1:30Speaker 3: So I don't know, it.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Seems like it's Thanksgiving. Seems like one of those easy
- 1:37Speaker 4: holidays in between Halloween and Christmas when there's like a
- 1:40Speaker 4: lot to do.
- 1:41Speaker 3: It's just chilling, so I appreciate it. But but yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 3: now we are.
- 1:45Speaker 4: In December, episode thirty one of our show, so the
- 1:49Speaker 4: first thing we've got to get to.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Is the boxing News.
- 1:53Speaker 4: We always got to give a shout out to our sponsor,
- 1:55Speaker 4: Delightful Smoke Shop in Tucson, located at six two one
- 1:59Speaker 4: seven twenty second Street. They're open seven days a week,
- 2:01Speaker 4: so stop buying for some goodies and hoodies, and thanks
- 2:04Speaker 4: to them for sponsoring the news segment. The Boxing Gazette
- 2:08Speaker 4: Biggest story we got to talk about the Ring four
- 2:10Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago in Saudi Arabia.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Holy crap, Devin.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Haney's return to the ring was mind blowing, completely unexpected.
- 2:19Speaker 4: You know, admittedly, last episode I said on the record,
- 2:22Speaker 4: I expected him to lose. I will have to eat
- 2:25Speaker 4: my words. I've never been afraid to be wrong before,
- 2:28Speaker 4: so I'm not gonna sit here and be like, well,
- 2:30Speaker 4: you know, that's not really what I meant, blah blah blah.
- 2:32Speaker 3: You know, I'll own it.
- 2:34Speaker 4: I admittedly I said that because of his performance in
- 2:37Speaker 4: the last couple of years. We talked about how he
- 2:39Speaker 4: hasn't looked as best since twenty twenty two. Didn't really
- 2:42Speaker 4: see didn't really expect a lot from his performance this
- 2:46Speaker 4: past to fight, but holy shit, man, you know he
- 2:50Speaker 4: came out looking great, looking, strong, looking powerful. Devin Haney
- 2:54Speaker 4: has always been made fun of for being quote pillow
- 2:56Speaker 4: hands Hani, Yeah, believe that he spent I just want
- 3:01Speaker 4: to get your take on what happened that night. What
- 3:03Speaker 4: you what you think happened before that night to get
- 3:05Speaker 4: us to that night, please, So, like.
- 3:08Speaker 2: A box I was focused and had a game plan.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It feels like the last few fights the focus going
- 3:13Speaker 1: into the fights wasn't all there, whether it was out
- 3:16Speaker 1: the ring stuff, whether it wasn't taking the opponents seriously,
- 3:19Speaker 1: just felt like a guy that just didn't have it
- 3:21Speaker 1: all upstairs mentally. Now you see a guy's focus, had
- 3:25Speaker 1: a game plan, was sharp, looked in very good shape.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It looked like the guy that was in line for
- 3:30Speaker 1: big fights a couple years ago. It looked like that
- 3:32Speaker 1: guy who was in you know that could have fought
- 3:34Speaker 1: anyone from Tank to secure to whomever. So now it's
- 3:37Speaker 1: very interesting to see going in twenty twenty six what
- 3:41Speaker 1: we have. That's the force we've been waiting for. That's
- 3:43Speaker 1: the Devi Haning that we've been waiting for for years now.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Now going forward, the quality of opponents will be better,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but I'll be it'll be justified to see how how
- 3:53Speaker 1: he looks. But I can't wait bounce with you. I
- 3:56Speaker 1: think that was a hell of performance. I mean, he
- 3:58Speaker 1: was basically fighting for his career in a sense, because
- 4:00Speaker 1: if he loses that fight, it's we've gone all those before.
- 4:04Speaker 1: When you can get to these points in your career,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you lose this fight, it's not looking good. But that
- 4:09Speaker 1: being said, it's one of those situations where he took
- 4:12Speaker 1: care of business, he knew it was at stake, And
- 4:14Speaker 1: here we are now where we have a whole new
- 4:17Speaker 1: situation to where he's going to be in big fights
- 4:20Speaker 1: or big.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Fight cards going forward.
- 4:23Speaker 1: So that's going to be huge to see going forward,
- 4:26Speaker 1: to see how he's able to keep that focus, maintain
- 4:29Speaker 1: that focus going forward and see what's out there for
- 4:33Speaker 1: because when you come off with victory like that, there's
- 4:35Speaker 1: big fights ahead.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Not only has that the hating we've been waiting for,
- 4:40Speaker 4: that's the hating we were promised and never really you know,
- 4:43Speaker 4: the promise is the word kept. So I was happy
- 4:46Speaker 4: to say and keep in mind. You know, let's just
- 4:48Speaker 4: be clear here, because I complained a lot about boxing
- 4:51Speaker 4: fans writing fighters off after one loss, calling them bums.
- 4:54Speaker 3: They were never good.
- 4:55Speaker 4: You know, I never disliked Haitie like, I never had
- 4:57Speaker 4: an issue with him. I didn't never wanted him to lose.
- 5:00Speaker 4: I just wanted to see, you know, a great fighter
- 5:04Speaker 4: in the ring. The promise that he showed I wanted
- 5:06Speaker 4: to continue. So I wasn't being a hater saying that
- 5:09Speaker 4: I really wanted to see Haini go down. I just
- 5:12Speaker 4: expected it based on, you know, his performances of the
- 5:14Speaker 4: last few years, especially especially the one from it was
- 5:18Speaker 4: July fourth, actually when the ri Odd times Square event happened,
- 5:24Speaker 4: which was like one of the worst boxing matches of
- 5:26Speaker 4: recent memory.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I think so yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 4: I mean, I props to him, you know, sorry I
- 5:32Speaker 4: doubted you king, I you actually you still got it.
- 5:36Speaker 4: And I really really am excited to see what he's
- 5:38Speaker 4: going to do going forward. With that said, are we
- 5:42Speaker 4: now wanting to see that Garcia rematch that we everybody
- 5:45Speaker 4: had written off earlier this year?
- 5:47Speaker 2: So what is Ryan Garcia had done to get a
- 5:49Speaker 2: big fight?
- 5:52Speaker 4: I would say, I would say, you're correct, he probably
- 5:55Speaker 4: hasn't done a lot, but I think his I think
- 5:59Speaker 4: Hamie earns another sh to prove that either Garcia pop
- 6:03Speaker 4: for like PDS in that fight there was a no contest.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Either.
- 6:07Speaker 4: He either Garcia needs to prove that he could actually
- 6:10Speaker 4: do it clean or hayt It needs to prove that
- 6:12Speaker 4: he that was a fluke on his end, because he
- 6:15Speaker 4: looked good enough to fight Garcia again. The question is yet,
- 6:20Speaker 4: do we want to see it? Do we think Ryan's
- 6:21Speaker 4: a draw? I want to see it personally, just to
- 6:23Speaker 4: see it just to see that fight how it really
- 6:26Speaker 4: should be with both of them on top of their game.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I think it would be exciting, But I don't know.
- 6:31Speaker 4: I mean, you do bring up a good point, Greg
- 6:33Speaker 4: Garcia doesn't really is it really the superstar used to be?
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah, we know Ryan Garcia for all the wrong things
- 6:39Speaker 1: right now. Why things we know Ryan Garcia for right
- 6:41Speaker 1: now are not box related. You know, he's talented, he's athletic,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but in terms of like boxing, we don't know him
- 6:49Speaker 1: or know a lot of him for boxing stuff at
- 6:52Speaker 1: this time.
- 6:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest issue, is that right now
- 6:56Speaker 1: we know more of the antics with.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Him than the app for boxing.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think it'd be in Devin Hanney's best interest to
- 7:04Speaker 1: get away from that side show at the point in
- 7:06Speaker 1: time you can come back to that that's not going overhere.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Ryan Garcia always gonna be around for that redemption fight.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I would try to take a better fight to move
- 7:14Speaker 1: up in the ranks and prepare myself for a title
- 7:16Speaker 1: fight or a bigger money fight. The Ryan Garcia situation,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and it kind of is what it is at this time.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I don't think Ryan Garcia is a serious boxer. I
- 7:24Speaker 1: think Ryan Garcia is a content creator, mass rating as
- 7:27Speaker 1: a boxer, but I don't think he's a serious boxer
- 7:29Speaker 1: after this time until he proves me otherwise.
- 7:32Speaker 3: That's totally fair.
- 7:33Speaker 4: And like I said, I'm only speaking of a rematch
- 7:35Speaker 4: because of I personally want to see.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I want to see it done right, I guess, is
- 7:41Speaker 3: what I'm trying to say. You know, I'd be happy
- 7:43Speaker 3: to have him running back.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I would have been happy to have him run it
- 7:45Speaker 4: back after you know, that initial fight.
- 7:48Speaker 3: But then yeah, Ryan Garcia.
- 7:50Speaker 4: But then again, Ryan Garcia always he always says that,
- 7:54Speaker 4: you know, well, I'm focused on different, I'm not doing this,
- 7:56Speaker 4: I'm not doing that. But then antics come into play.
- 7:58Speaker 4: His social media starts getting weird, and then he says, well,
- 8:01Speaker 4: I'm ready, I'm focus.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Blah blah blahlah blah.
- 8:03Speaker 4: So it's kind of a pattern with him. It's kind
- 8:06Speaker 4: of part of the game plan by the ticket ride.
- 8:08Speaker 4: The ride kind of a thing, you know. But like
- 8:12Speaker 4: I said, I want to see this Hainy against that
- 8:16Speaker 4: Ryan Garcia is after seeing this, right, But I guess
- 8:20Speaker 4: you're right. I guess maybe he's probably not the best move.
- 8:22Speaker 3: For him going forward. He's got some other potential matchup.
- 8:24Speaker 4: They're talking about the British fighter Connor Ben, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 4: who had a couple of good fights recently.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:31Speaker 4: I mean, the sky's the limit for Devin Haney after
- 8:35Speaker 4: that performance, It's so crazy.
- 8:36Speaker 3: I had mentioned that I was excited.
- 8:38Speaker 4: For this Ring four event and I said, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 4: not Canella Crawford levels of excitement by any means. But
- 8:43Speaker 4: afterwards I did feel the same way I felt after
- 8:47Speaker 4: Kanella Crawford, and that it reminded me of why I
- 8:50Speaker 4: love boxing so much, because anything could happen, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 4: the most unexpected thing, even hell, just Bud Crawford going
- 8:58Speaker 4: up whatever it was three way classes was crazy and
- 9:02Speaker 4: the result was just unexpected exciting. And same thing with Hayden.
- 9:07Speaker 4: You write the guy off and he just comes back
- 9:09Speaker 4: in a big way. Something like that really just just
- 9:13Speaker 4: motivates me, energize me, and just just makes it just
- 9:16Speaker 4: reminds me why I love this damn support.
- 9:18Speaker 3: So I don't know, I mean, is there anything.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Is there anything else that we can think to say
- 9:23Speaker 4: about what Stevin Haney's future could look like.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I mean, if I'm him, I'm waiting for the tim
- 9:28Speaker 1: of female Lopez h Sircursey was in fight to make
- 9:32Speaker 1: Before making any decisions, I see who wins that fight
- 9:35Speaker 1: and then go from there.
- 9:36Speaker 2: So that's where the money is.
- 9:37Speaker 1: That's also potentially where a big mega type fight can be.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So it's one of those things to where that's where
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'm I'm laying patient for the next month and a
- 9:46Speaker 1: half while staying in shape, while marine focused. Also making
- 9:51Speaker 1: sure that the dad is not doing anything crazy or
- 9:54Speaker 1: anything like that.
- 9:55Speaker 2: So we're staying Folks were saying on key.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest thing with Devin because obviously
- 10:01Speaker 1: is not issue, it's just I think the focus. I
- 10:03Speaker 1: think in the first fight with Ryan, don't think he
- 10:05Speaker 1: was well prepared for that fight. I think he took
- 10:07Speaker 1: that fight very lightly. I think he was messing around,
- 10:09Speaker 1: bullshitting and he got caught. Now Ryan was you know,
- 10:12Speaker 1: Ryan had an unfair vantage. So it is what it is.
- 10:14Speaker 1: But just in general, I don't think Devin Handy was
- 10:17Speaker 1: prepared for that fight as he should have like he
- 10:19Speaker 1: was for this one. And I think he has that
- 10:22Speaker 1: same preparation and as the same camp he had going
- 10:25Speaker 1: into this fight going forward.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be all right.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Now there's certain guys I don't think he's better than
- 10:30Speaker 1: but I still think he can put together.
- 10:31Speaker 2: A lot of really good fights in the near future.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I I don't know that even this
- 10:38Speaker 4: Heaven's Devin Haney that we saw a couple of weekends
- 10:42Speaker 4: ago could be like Lomachenko very very clearly without any
- 10:46Speaker 4: kind of you know, uh.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Iffingness from from the audience.
- 10:49Speaker 4: You know, he did beat Limachenko on the cards, but
- 10:51Speaker 4: I think it was pretty universally, uh it was not
- 10:56Speaker 4: everybody was on board that that was a very very
- 10:58Speaker 4: clean win on Haydey's part. But yeah, I mean, how
- 11:03Speaker 4: about this, Seeing just that the way you put Brian
- 11:07Speaker 4: Norman Junior down in the first one, and how like
- 11:08Speaker 4: Agro he was in his face, I was like, this
- 11:10Speaker 4: man came to fight, He did not come to play,
- 11:14Speaker 4: whatever happened this year, last year, et cetera. Like just
- 11:17Speaker 4: the way he looked carried himself in his face, like
- 11:20Speaker 4: this man is taking this fight seriously.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And you're right, he was fighting for his career.
- 11:24Speaker 4: And I mean, I'm I can't imagine that these boxers
- 11:27Speaker 4: don't realize that.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I can't. I can't imagine they're that insulated.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You know.
- 11:31Speaker 3: You hear stories about how celebrities they've got.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Their bubble, they don't really know what's going on in
- 11:35Speaker 4: the real word, blah blah blah. But everybody's every young
- 11:39Speaker 4: guy's got access to social media. You know, they know
- 11:41Speaker 4: how they're seeing how they're perceived. Right especially these days,
- 11:45Speaker 4: you can.
- 11:45Speaker 1: See social media. But it doesn't mean if you're not
- 11:47Speaker 1: taking heed to it doesn't matter. Why you can have
- 11:50Speaker 1: all the social media to have all this stuff around you.
- 11:52Speaker 1: A lot of people who know what's going on doesn't
- 11:54Speaker 1: necessarily mean they read the room.
- 11:57Speaker 3: That's true. That's true.
- 11:58Speaker 4: I guess it's more in the sense of I had
- 12:01Speaker 4: to assume that Devin Hayden knew he was fighting for
- 12:03Speaker 4: his career, you know, he didn't.
- 12:04Speaker 3: He couldn't have thought this is just another fight. I
- 12:06Speaker 3: don't know. Let me, what do you think.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Ah, I would hope he was. But we've seen fighters
- 12:11Speaker 1: in that position before not taking to us either.
- 12:14Speaker 2: So that's the thing.
- 12:15Speaker 1: He's got to hope that guys are seriously able to
- 12:19Speaker 1: do what they gotta do, you know. So that's the
- 12:22Speaker 1: biggest thing. With that being said, I think that going forward,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I think he under valuable lesson.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I think it's just got scared straight and away.
- 12:33Speaker 1: He went from a situation where he was in a
- 12:37Speaker 1: really good spot, undefeated, wanted to talk of the you know,
- 12:40Speaker 1: young guys coming up to Hey took, I say, no contest,
- 12:44Speaker 1: but a loss, so everyone to classify it kind of
- 12:47Speaker 1: gets forgotten about, has a lot luster outing, it gets
- 12:50Speaker 1: really forgotten about, and then has to put together performance
- 12:53Speaker 1: to really get things back on track. I hope he
- 12:56Speaker 1: doesn't have to go through those steps again because a
- 12:58Speaker 1: lot of times you don't get that chance to do so.
- 13:00Speaker 1: So I think he gets his stuff in order. Uh,
- 13:02Speaker 1: it was good to see. I would think that he
- 13:06Speaker 1: would read the room. But you just never know.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Man.
- 13:08Speaker 1: When you listen to his dad and the people around him,
- 13:11Speaker 1: sometimes you give the picture that they don't think he
- 13:14Speaker 1: needed to do so, so not quite sure, not not
- 13:17Speaker 1: quite sure, to be honest with you, that's those.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Are really good points.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you think you you could think that
- 13:24Speaker 4: this is obvious to to us watching as spectators, you know, uh,
- 13:28Speaker 4: and knowing where the the arc of somebody's career, but
- 13:32Speaker 4: you never know what is going getting put into somebody's
- 13:34Speaker 4: head by management training. Blah blah blah, people on the
- 13:36Speaker 4: inside whatever. Yeah, and there's no formula to it. Like
- 13:41Speaker 4: you said, there's been guys that really really needed to
- 13:43Speaker 4: win and needed to take it seriously and just came
- 13:46Speaker 4: in with the shoulders shrug of a fight and you're like,
- 13:48Speaker 4: how do you not know that?
- 13:49Speaker 3: This is?
- 13:50Speaker 4: Like, go time, bro, Like what's going on? So that's
- 13:53Speaker 4: that's that's fair to say. Another thing too that you
- 13:56Speaker 4: mentioned is waiting for for sa course, he was the
- 13:59Speaker 4: first versus Tilfia. We'll talk about that a little later,
- 14:01Speaker 4: but that's at the end of January. Devin Haney in
- 14:04Speaker 4: the last few years only fought once a year anyway.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I believe this year he.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Fought July at the time score thing, but I.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Think the last couple so it's not like he's rushing
- 14:14Speaker 4: to set, you know, to make another fight in March
- 14:16Speaker 4: or something like that. Anyway, you know, if he continues
- 14:18Speaker 4: his pattern, so he's got time to kind of wait
- 14:21Speaker 4: it out, see see what the landscape looks like, and
- 14:25Speaker 4: see if I don't know, if rang Garcia is still
- 14:27Speaker 4: unjailed or whatever before he makes a decision. So yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 4: I guess there's no real rush right now. Anyway, well,
- 14:35Speaker 4: I'm excited to see what what Hanny does in twenty
- 14:37Speaker 4: six is all is where we can leave that. Another
- 14:40Speaker 4: thing we want to talk about at the event. The
- 14:42Speaker 4: main event actually is they've have been a vitas So
- 14:45Speaker 4: another pretty exciting pretty I think maybe maybe not easy,
- 14:50Speaker 4: easy work, but clearly showed against Anthony Yard. Skill power dominated,
- 14:58Speaker 4: got a stopage in around like been or something like that.
- 15:02Speaker 3: That fight.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Him not really super excited to talk about what I'm
- 15:06Speaker 4: more interested in. He's He mentioned at the end of
- 15:08Speaker 4: the fight that so David Benavidez, the Mexican monster from Phoenix, Arizona,
- 15:15Speaker 4: was it light heavyweight challenge, Canelo kept getting ducked, he
- 15:18Speaker 4: moved up to I'm sorry, I'm.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Sorry he was at super middleweight challenge. Canelo kept getting ducked,
- 15:25Speaker 3: moved up.
- 15:26Speaker 4: To light heavyweight challenge. Bevill got ducked. Bev All vacated
- 15:30Speaker 4: in the belt. So he fought Anthony Yard and the
- 15:35Speaker 4: other guy I forgot his last fight was, but he
- 15:38Speaker 4: said now his next fight he's moving up yet again
- 15:40Speaker 4: to cruiserweight to fight Souta Mires. So I've said this
- 15:44Speaker 4: for a while now that David ben Avitez is a
- 15:48Speaker 4: big guy naturally, a big dude. He's one of those
- 15:51Speaker 4: Mexican fighters that a rare Mexican fighter who's tall, has
- 15:56Speaker 4: a lot of weight, a lot of power. You know,
- 15:57Speaker 4: Usually our folks are little guys, you know, small or
- 16:00Speaker 4: chravisized guys. I've always said the Canelo was a little
- 16:02Speaker 4: guy that got beefy, but that does not make him
- 16:04Speaker 4: not a little guy.
- 16:07Speaker 3: It seems like dy have been a venus is well.
- 16:09Speaker 4: First of all, one, it seems like he's listening to
- 16:11Speaker 4: me on the show, which I know you're listening, David,
- 16:13Speaker 4: I know you are, but I think he's sort of
- 16:15Speaker 4: fulfilling his destiny as the big guy who's challenging these
- 16:19Speaker 4: other you know, massive dudes and not focusing on super
- 16:22Speaker 4: middleweight or anything like that, which.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Is great for him.
- 16:24Speaker 4: The question is what does he have to do to
- 16:27Speaker 4: get his due? I guess you'd say, you know, he
- 16:30Speaker 4: keeps challenging the big names, he gets getting turned out,
- 16:32Speaker 4: he keeps making fights. To his credit, he's not just
- 16:34Speaker 4: dilly delling and you know, sitting at home whatever, cracking
- 16:37Speaker 4: a beer.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Like.
- 16:37Speaker 4: He's out there trying to fight whoever he can. But
- 16:40Speaker 4: he keeps moving up and now he's a cruiserweight. I mean,
- 16:43Speaker 4: I can't imagine he's going to try a heavyweight fight.
- 16:46Speaker 4: That might be a little too much for him. I
- 16:47Speaker 4: don't know, but you know, he's he seems to kind
- 16:50Speaker 4: of just be throwing anything in the wall and see
- 16:52Speaker 4: what sticks. I mean, what do you think about where
- 16:55Speaker 4: what moves does he have going forward so he can
- 16:57Speaker 4: really earn the earn the rick condition he deserves.
- 17:01Speaker 2: No one's fighting him.
- 17:02Speaker 1: No one that cares about their record or pride is
- 17:06Speaker 1: fighting him. Too dangerous, too big of a guy, like
- 17:10Speaker 1: you mentioned, very difficult to game plan for. He's a
- 17:15Speaker 1: big guy, a big reach powerful. I just don't see
- 17:19Speaker 1: anyone signing up for that. I understand why Canelo ducked him, Sure,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I get it, Like I like, that's if Canello had
- 17:26Speaker 1: problems with Bud. He had no chance for us to
- 17:29Speaker 1: be this like no, like there's this there's no game plan.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Even look at Canelo's arms. Canelos doesn't have a great
- 17:37Speaker 2: reef like that. He doesn't have long gang ARSI it's
- 17:40Speaker 2: not like he can you know, stay away and jab
- 17:42Speaker 2: and you know, put himself to a victory. That's not
- 17:45Speaker 2: the case.
- 17:46Speaker 1: He would have to come inside, and that's just not Yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I don't see anyone that's like.
- 17:52Speaker 2: A big name fighting him at this moment.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Could change in the future, depending on your money's money
- 17:57Speaker 1: money changed a lot of things, but I just.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Don't see it.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I don't see anyone as a huge name fighting him
- 18:05Speaker 1: with that big said is in a tough spot because
- 18:07Speaker 1: as yours go on, you know, and you know, you
- 18:11Speaker 1: kind of lose obviously your own skill set over over time.
- 18:15Speaker 1: If no one ever comes about, then you gotta take chances.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, you move up to you know, heavyweight,
- 18:20Speaker 1: those are things into your mind because you can't go down.
- 18:22Speaker 1: He's not gonna go down. That's not happening. So then
- 18:25Speaker 1: you got to start taking chances, and that's where guys
- 18:27Speaker 1: get caught. So we'll see what happens. But right now,
- 18:30Speaker 1: he's kind of a guy without a with out an opponent,
- 18:34Speaker 1: if that makes sense.
- 18:35Speaker 2: There's not like a set and the Stone guy.
- 18:38Speaker 4: He can fight at this time, right I mean, the
- 18:41Speaker 4: biggest opportunity for him is Bevo, and I think there's
- 18:45Speaker 4: a chance that he could just keep knocking out all
- 18:47Speaker 4: the contenders in the rankings to show like he's to
- 18:51Speaker 4: sort of force that fight, force himself into the spotlight,
- 18:54Speaker 4: and I think that's what he's doing. Honestly, he's just
- 18:56Speaker 4: kind of showing that, you know, he's building a he's
- 18:59Speaker 4: building his brand. Still of course, he's building a fan base.
- 19:03Speaker 4: The more people see him, the more people they go like, Okay,
- 19:06Speaker 4: all these dudes he's fighting. It's looked like easy work.
- 19:09Speaker 4: So let's see if maybe a beevill isn't if it's
- 19:11Speaker 4: a real challenge for him. You know, I'm speaking as
- 19:13Speaker 4: like the public perception hypothetically speaking, but.
- 19:17Speaker 3: No, you're right.
- 19:17Speaker 4: I mean, the thing about Benavidez is crazy. If for
- 19:21Speaker 4: those of you who didn't see the fight of you
- 19:22Speaker 4: just look up the highlights. You know, Anthony Yard, British guy,
- 19:25Speaker 4: like he was just huge jacked, one of the biggest
- 19:28Speaker 4: dudes that physically imposing dudes that Beneved has fought so far.
- 19:32Speaker 4: Benevid is tall, but he's very lean and like his
- 19:35Speaker 4: arms are lean. He's strong, he's powerful, he's got power punches,
- 19:38Speaker 4: but he's not that like massive jacked you know monster.
- 19:42Speaker 3: That's that that other fighters look like.
- 19:46Speaker 4: He's just got skilled But again, you know, neither was Chavez,
- 19:48Speaker 4: for example, He's a very lean guy. He's got reach, speed, power,
- 19:52Speaker 4: He's he's that actual strong, not Jim strong kind of
- 19:55Speaker 4: thing that people say. So I think he's he's very
- 20:01Speaker 4: deceptive when you look at him and you're like, this
- 20:03Speaker 4: guy against somebody who's a huge and Jack, you know,
- 20:07Speaker 4: has giant arms.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I think it's this. He's kind of a strange fighter.
- 20:12Speaker 4: He's a weird fighter in ways, Like Tyson was under
- 20:15Speaker 4: six foot, under six feet, but he moved like a
- 20:18Speaker 4: he was a heavyweight fighter that moved.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Like a little guy, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Then it is a skinny guy that can fight giant
- 20:24Speaker 4: dudes really wild, right, And I just I just don't Yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 4: I think you're right.
- 20:28Speaker 3: I mean, it seems it's hard to know where to
- 20:31Speaker 3: plug him.
- 20:31Speaker 4: And I think that's part of his strategy of just like,
- 20:35Speaker 4: let me just fight any big fucking dude that will
- 20:37Speaker 4: get in the ring with me and show that I've
- 20:38Speaker 4: got the skills. You know, that's one of the greats.
- 20:41Speaker 4: I just hope that it does pay off for him.
- 20:43Speaker 4: I mean, where could this end up. Could there's just
- 20:44Speaker 4: be somebody that just kind of doesn't get their name
- 20:48Speaker 4: in the Spilight because he keeps getting dust and duct
- 20:49Speaker 4: and duct. I mean, how long can you avoid somebody
- 20:52Speaker 4: a fighter like this.
- 20:55Speaker 1: That's the thing. It's tough because no one's signing up
- 20:57Speaker 1: for that.
- 20:58Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 20:58Speaker 1: No one has anything lose is signing up. So there's
- 21:02Speaker 1: no one of note that's about, Oh I'm taking that fight.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Just don't see it.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I don't. I So that's because issue is.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Not necessarily it's more of no one is going to
- 21:13Speaker 1: take that chance the options available. So he's kind of
- 21:16Speaker 1: in a weird spot where he has to face guys
- 21:18Speaker 1: who are not as known and not as talented as
- 21:20Speaker 1: some other challenges, just because there's just no one there
- 21:24Speaker 1: that's willing to put their situation online to fight him
- 21:27Speaker 1: at this point of his career.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Right, And I'm going to admit to some ignorance here, you know.
- 21:34Speaker 4: So the the weight classes go light heavyweight goes up,
- 21:39Speaker 4: the cruiserweight.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Then goes up to heavyweight. Heavyweight is two hundred and up.
- 21:42Speaker 4: I'll be honest, I don't know a lot of cruiserweight names.
- 21:45Speaker 4: I know Zudea Ramirez, I know that.
- 21:49Speaker 3: You know he he fought people before.
- 21:51Speaker 4: But I do believe Zudelemz went down don't quote me
- 21:55Speaker 4: on that, but I don't really know any of the
- 21:57Speaker 4: names that cruiserweight, Like, do you know if any like
- 21:59Speaker 4: big name and he started like, yeah, I focus off top,
- 22:03Speaker 4: no off top, Yeah, because I everybody talks about the
- 22:08Speaker 4: heavyweight class like that's kind of its own thing, and
- 22:12Speaker 4: because of a Canelo fan, I kind of, you know,
- 22:14Speaker 4: focus a little bit on the uh you know, super
- 22:17Speaker 4: bit of weight and then below because Mexicans fight it.
- 22:20Speaker 4: You know, there were little guys they fight a uh
- 22:22Speaker 4: lower wait classes, so that kind of cruiser weight there.
- 22:25Speaker 4: It just I completely ignored. I'm really ignorant of it.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I don't keep up with it. So I don't even
- 22:29Speaker 4: know what is there for a Benevidi is to do
- 22:31Speaker 4: other than just kind of make some more noise as
- 22:33Speaker 4: to you know, him being a fighter.
- 22:35Speaker 3: That that deserves the attention.
- 22:38Speaker 4: I don't know what's what's the last big name that
- 22:40Speaker 4: fought a cruiser weight that a lot of people would know.
- 22:43Speaker 4: I think Usik fought there for a while, but you know,
- 22:46Speaker 4: he's more known for heavyweight. Can you think of somebody
- 22:48Speaker 4: that's like, oh man, this guy you know that maybe
- 22:53Speaker 4: not everybody would know, like a Tyson or a Floyd
- 22:55Speaker 4: but just you know a lot of boxing.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Roy Jones trying to fight out a cruise of weight
- 22:59Speaker 1: when he fought were we or was that a heavyweight?
- 23:01Speaker 3: I don't remember, see this is that's the thing.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Was what it may have been heavyweight? I think Bruise
- 23:09Speaker 1: was a heavyweight. But it was a similar situation where
- 23:12Speaker 1: so here's the thing, Roy Jones ran out of people
- 23:15Speaker 1: to fight for a long period of time. Weird way, class, weird,
- 23:19Speaker 1: a ponent situation, just a weird overall situation in general.
- 23:24Speaker 2: So that being said, it's one of those things.
- 23:27Speaker 1: To where you kind of just are in no man's
- 23:29Speaker 1: land in a sense, and it happens every now and then.
- 23:32Speaker 1: This this, this happens for the last I would say
- 23:35Speaker 1: twenty years. One thirty five to one fifty four has
- 23:40Speaker 1: been like the money division, where there's always been a
- 23:42Speaker 1: bunch of guys, even up one sixty sixty, all those guys,
- 23:47Speaker 1: all those visions have fights, there's been contenders and regardless
- 23:50Speaker 1: wanting to up and down.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So there's never been those issues. But once you get
- 23:54Speaker 2: out of that one, since once you got one sixty eight,
- 23:57Speaker 2: it's it gets rough at times, and then that's kind
- 23:59Speaker 2: of where right now.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and.
- 24:04Speaker 4: I say that I've always thought of and correct me if, like,
- 24:07Speaker 4: you know, this is something ridiculous, but I've always thought
- 24:09Speaker 4: that that's where heavyweight sort of cut weight to fight
- 24:14Speaker 4: because they didn't fight one to fight other heavyweights. Like,
- 24:16Speaker 4: no disrespect to people who fight at cruiserweight. Is that
- 24:19Speaker 4: that's in my mind how I always saw it. I
- 24:20Speaker 4: was just like, well, you know, if you don't want
- 24:22Speaker 4: to fight two undred fund, dude, you can just go
- 24:23Speaker 4: a little lower below that because cruiserweight actually we should
- 24:26Speaker 4: say it's it's between one seventy five and two hundred.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Okay, So so, uh, I know.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Like heavyweight pretty decently well because that's where you meet
- 24:35Speaker 4: your Bevall and better beev you know, had their their
- 24:38Speaker 4: couple of fights. Uh, that's where Canelo moved up to
- 24:41Speaker 4: fight Bevall and lost, so he went back down.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Uh.
- 24:44Speaker 4: But yeah, that little Noman's land, like you called it,
- 24:47Speaker 4: it's it's to me in my mind, it's always yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 4: just been kind of a ghost town. And I hate
- 24:52Speaker 4: to say it because again there's actual, you know, talented
- 24:55Speaker 4: fighters fighting at that at that class.
- 24:57Speaker 3: I just I don't know, off the top of my head.
- 24:59Speaker 3: You know, anybody who who who's a big name there,
- 25:04Speaker 3: So I don't know, it's weird.
- 25:06Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like I'm kind of rambling a bit,
- 25:09Speaker 4: because yeah, I'm just kind of just throwing out ideas
- 25:12Speaker 4: on the top of my head about what's going on
- 25:13Speaker 4: with Benavidez, what he could do, and what his game
- 25:15Speaker 4: plan is. But the bottom line is that that man
- 25:19Speaker 4: deserves big fights with big names. He's got the talents,
- 25:25Speaker 4: and it just sucks that he just keeps getting ducked.
- 25:27Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, nobody's unbeatable except Floyd, I guess,
- 25:33Speaker 4: but nobody.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Is, you know, invincible in the ring.
- 25:37Speaker 4: So there's got to be somewhere out there that sees
- 25:39Speaker 4: been a meat doesn't think I got something for him.
- 25:40Speaker 4: I just I just hate to see this guy not
- 25:42Speaker 4: getting his DW. He keeps making fights, he keeps looking good,
- 25:46Speaker 4: but I don't know fingers crossed. Another thing I want
- 25:51Speaker 4: to mention about in general about that fight, So fellas
- 25:55Speaker 4: guys who work out a lot at the gym, just
- 25:57Speaker 4: so you know, just because you're atjective because your brawling.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Doesn't mean you know how to fight.
- 26:02Speaker 4: So we saw in the guy that Anthony Yard, who
- 26:04Speaker 4: was a talented fighter. Don't get me wrong, but I'll
- 26:06Speaker 4: put it to this day, I'd rather fight a big
- 26:10Speaker 4: beefy jym dude than like a tall, skinny guy like like, yeah, yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 4: so fellas, you know, you go to the gym and
- 26:19Speaker 4: you you work out, you're in great shape.
- 26:21Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 26:21Speaker 4: But remember big beefy arms, they're slower to throw punches.
- 26:25Speaker 4: You know, the bigger roar, the slower you are. So
- 26:27Speaker 4: I think that's why Benavitez is gonna hit. Is kind
- 26:30Speaker 4: of a confusing fighter for people because he's you can say,
- 26:33Speaker 4: he's essentially kind of skinny, Like you could say that
- 26:36Speaker 4: and not be you know, and and be pretty fair
- 26:38Speaker 4: about it. But both boxing talent and power, you know,
- 26:43Speaker 4: just just just be careful about that.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Fellas. Don't don't talk uh, don't talk shit just because
- 26:47Speaker 3: some dude is tall and skinny at the bars anyway,
- 26:52Speaker 3: Roy Jones apparently that fight against John Reeves was heavy weight,
- 26:56Speaker 3: so got it? Yeah, got so? I don't know.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Yeah, but oh, another thing I have to mention, uh no,
- 27:05Speaker 4: shout out to Direct TV because the Ring four fight,
- 27:08Speaker 4: I went out to see it at so the neighborhood.
- 27:11Speaker 4: My favorite sports bar and twos and has two locations,
- 27:13Speaker 4: is the downtown one. I wanted to stay closer to home,
- 27:15Speaker 4: so I just went there. It was raining and storming
- 27:18Speaker 4: like really hard and two soon that night, like it
- 27:19Speaker 4: was coming down, coming down, and the direct TV gave
- 27:22Speaker 4: out a couple of times the satellite dish on the TVs. First,
- 27:27Speaker 4: it happened before the Abdulla Mason fight. Well, during the
- 27:29Speaker 4: ring walks, I didn't miss anything. I missed at least
- 27:32Speaker 4: the whole ass round of the Benavitas fight because the
- 27:34Speaker 4: satellite dish went out, uh maybe even one and a half.
- 27:40Speaker 4: I didn't miss the knockout, but somewhere in the middle
- 27:43Speaker 4: it just crashed and it was it was really awkward
- 27:46Speaker 4: because they had a DJ at the at the spot,
- 27:49Speaker 4: but the DJ like uh stopped and they turned the
- 27:52Speaker 4: sounds of the fight on for the whole bar. So
- 27:55Speaker 4: while we're sitting there just waiting for the direct TV
- 27:58Speaker 4: to come back, it just was silent and there was
- 28:00Speaker 4: just sounds of like you know, just people murmuring and
- 28:04Speaker 4: like you know, beard glasses hitting the getting set down
- 28:07Speaker 4: to the bar, and it was very eerie with the
- 28:09Speaker 4: rain outside it was a kind of creepy. Actually, I
- 28:12Speaker 4: was sitting there like the time stop, like am I alive?
- 28:16Speaker 3: Am I? Where? Am I? Am? I?
- 28:18Speaker 2: Am? I?
- 28:18Speaker 4: Did I die and not know it? So that was
- 28:22Speaker 4: a little this pointing. Thankfully, you know, I didn't miss
- 28:25Speaker 4: the big finish, so but yeah, that was a I
- 28:29Speaker 4: was a little nervous out that I was going to
- 28:30Speaker 4: miss most of that fight.
- 28:32Speaker 3: So yeah, speaking of a doula.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Mason, you know, he had a really good performance at
- 28:37Speaker 4: the Ring four event, went the distance, no knockout, but
- 28:39Speaker 4: he looked good. I think I don't think that he
- 28:42Speaker 4: had any There's nothing that he showed that showed he
- 28:45Speaker 4: lost a step where he wasn't ready. I don't know
- 28:47Speaker 4: what you thought about his fight, but I think he's
- 28:49Speaker 4: still still kind of building his brand new skills and
- 28:52Speaker 4: you know, could be a great fighter. I don't think
- 28:55Speaker 4: him going to distance kind of hurt him in any way.
- 28:57Speaker 4: I don't know about you, what are your thoughts there?
- 29:00Speaker 2: So here's the thing. I don't mind as long as
- 29:03Speaker 2: guys are winning when they're coming up, I don't mind it.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes fights take on their own look of
- 29:08Speaker 2: how things go. I'm a big proponent of fighters getting better, right.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I think the big thing we've gotten caught up in.
- 29:14Speaker 1: The past is guys look good and these you know,
- 29:18Speaker 1: these fights that are building their resume, so to speak,
- 29:21Speaker 1: to the point where they don't have room to grow.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So when they do fight a good fighter, there's no
- 29:26Speaker 1: room to, you know, to show out. It's it's like
- 29:28Speaker 1: feel that it's time they're finished product. So I personally
- 29:30Speaker 1: don't mind guys that don't have a perfect showing when
- 29:33Speaker 1: it comes to some of the some of the smaller
- 29:36Speaker 1: fights that they're in, So I don't take a whole
- 29:38Speaker 1: lot of crea. Instead, as long as you don't look
- 29:39Speaker 1: very bad or long, you're not getting dropped several times,
- 29:42Speaker 1: you're fine.
- 29:42Speaker 2: In my eyes, this is more about getting.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Better, right, using this fight to get better, because I
- 29:47Speaker 1: think a lot of times the fight that doesn't go
- 29:49Speaker 1: through any adversity in all these pre fights, when they
- 29:52Speaker 1: get in the ring and something happens, they panic when
- 29:55Speaker 1: you're in there with somebody comparable to you or even better.
- 29:58Speaker 2: So I like guys that don't necessarily win blowouts every fight.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I like a little adversity because you can lean back
- 30:05Speaker 2: on that and be okay when it's.
- 30:07Speaker 1: A close fight versus the guy in there, So I
- 30:10Speaker 1: personally don't mind it. Like to me, my thing is
- 30:12Speaker 1: take care of business, get the W and move on,
- 30:15Speaker 1: but also try to get better.
- 30:18Speaker 3: No, that's a that's a really good point.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I well we can talk a little
- 30:22Speaker 4: bit more about about that in a second, but yeah,
- 30:25Speaker 4: I would say overall this event, we didn't mention vam
- 30:27Speaker 4: Rodriguez absolutely questioned in their Master Classic Boxing. Just beautiful performance. No, no,
- 30:35Speaker 4: no real opposition there. I would call it overall a
- 30:38Speaker 4: great night of fights. You know, I've given you know,
- 30:41Speaker 4: Turkeyella shake a lot of crap about previous events, and
- 30:45Speaker 4: you know the a lot of them have not built,
- 30:48Speaker 4: have lived up to the hype, is what I'm trying
- 30:50Speaker 4: to say. But this one solid fights, very active, nobody
- 30:55Speaker 4: kind of dilly deallying, nothing boring. So just overall, it's
- 31:00Speaker 4: one of those nights where you could say, like, well,
- 31:03Speaker 4: you know, if you didn't know Devin Handy's history, you're
- 31:05Speaker 4: just like, oh it's a talented boxer.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Head a good night.
- 31:07Speaker 4: You didn't see it as a blowout performance. But I
- 31:10Speaker 4: think that's cool to just have solid, solid activity from
- 31:14Speaker 4: everybody and it's just really really fun night. So any
- 31:16Speaker 4: final thoughts on just overall the Ring four.
- 31:20Speaker 1: No, No, The biggest thing for me is having quality fights,
- 31:25Speaker 1: like we always stay on this show. The more fights,
- 31:27Speaker 1: the mirror. We need to get back to where we
- 31:30Speaker 1: have fights on as much as possible. We have enough
- 31:35Speaker 1: boxes out there amongst all the classes that have fights
- 31:38Speaker 1: every weekend, right, that's so many boxes we do have
- 31:41Speaker 1: in terms of all the divisions and everything. We need
- 31:43Speaker 1: good quality fights as much as possible. So any event
- 31:47Speaker 1: that can produce that, I'm all for.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Yeah, And it looks like that they're not slowing down.
- 31:53Speaker 3: So the Ring, the breat season. The Saudi Arabian.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Promoter, you know, they're having another ring event Bring five
- 32:00Speaker 4: with now Yeah in a way in Japan on December
- 32:02Speaker 4: twenty seventh, which I guess would be like Fighter'll we
- 32:05Speaker 4: probably four am, three am our time, so we'll be
- 32:08Speaker 4: looking forward to watching that on YouTube atter horns or whatever.
- 32:11Speaker 4: But neither here nor there. And then their next event,
- 32:14Speaker 4: Ring six is going to be the Tefiy Malpus Shaker
- 32:17Speaker 4: Stevens In fight, which I actually want to talk about next. Yes,
- 32:20Speaker 4: So it's it's locked in for January thirty first, so
- 32:24Speaker 4: it's going to be in New York City. We talked
- 32:26Speaker 4: about that, the potentiality of that being in New York
- 32:29Speaker 4: to females from New York, which of course from Jersey,
- 32:32Speaker 4: so kind of a natural choice there.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 4: I mean, my biggest thing that I want to talk
- 32:38Speaker 4: about is is this fight a big enough to bring
- 32:42Speaker 4: in a lot more casuals, casual fans into boxing, new
- 32:45Speaker 4: fans into boxing.
- 32:46Speaker 3: You know, they both have their fans, they're big names.
- 32:48Speaker 4: But I guess I also kind of fall into the
- 32:50Speaker 4: trap of I follow boxing and don't have a lot
- 32:54Speaker 4: of Like I don't have a lot of boxing people
- 32:56Speaker 4: that I talk to other than you and like a
- 32:58Speaker 4: couple of friends. So I don't know what the public
- 33:01Speaker 4: perception of how many people know who taylorpez, who know
- 33:04Speaker 4: who should Course Stevenson is. I don't know how popular
- 33:06Speaker 4: they are outside of the boxing world. So I just
- 33:09Speaker 4: want to get your take on what we expect for
- 33:11Speaker 4: this event and what's what it's going to do for
- 33:12Speaker 4: the sport.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It's a big enough event because Shaker Stevens is an
- 33:17Speaker 1: active guy that likes to market things, so him being
- 33:21Speaker 1: out in the marketing trail for the next six to
- 33:23Speaker 1: eight weeks constantly marketing and fight. I think that's a
- 33:26Speaker 1: good thing. So I think that's cool. With that being said,
- 33:32Speaker 1: there's something interesting about this fight because Tafi Mo Lopez
- 33:36Speaker 1: is also got talks a lot and does a lot
- 33:38Speaker 1: of things. To have two guys that would be constantly busy,
- 33:42Speaker 1: constantly chap, you know, chattering it up regarding this situation,
- 33:46Speaker 1: so I think that's a good situation all the way around.
- 33:50Speaker 1: The casual fans is tough because normally you need names
- 33:54Speaker 1: that people know before they fight. It'd be one of
- 33:56Speaker 1: those fights where people know their names after the fight.
- 33:59Speaker 1: After I'm going to a fighting can be However, I will
- 34:02Speaker 1: say this.
- 34:05Speaker 2: This is probably the last fight that's just cure. Stevenson
- 34:09Speaker 2: is gonna be the B side.
- 34:10Speaker 1: If he is the B side of this fight, this
- 34:11Speaker 1: is probably the last fight that he's the B side.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I think he's gonna take care of business in late January.
- 34:17Speaker 1: But yeah, I think this is the last fight where
- 34:20Speaker 1: if he's not getting the full the better of the
- 34:22Speaker 1: split or anything like that, this would be the last.
- 34:25Speaker 2: This would be the last fight of that.
- 34:27Speaker 4: I can see that. Yeah, I would definitely agree. You
- 34:30Speaker 4: make really good points about the marketing. I mean, Stevenson
- 34:33Speaker 4: is very charming, like he's just like a He's like,
- 34:37Speaker 4: he's good on the mic, he's photogenic, you know, he's
- 34:41Speaker 4: just just seems like he's he seems like a fun hang.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Just just to be honest, like seems like cool dude.
- 34:47Speaker 4: H tell Febo is a pain in the ass. He's
- 34:49Speaker 4: a fucking cloud, and I sometimes I can't sit it.
- 34:52Speaker 4: But sometimes he's really funny, Like I can't do that.
- 34:54Speaker 4: He's really funny. But sometimes you just want to tell
- 34:57Speaker 4: him shut the hell up. So actually remember before that
- 35:01Speaker 4: July fourth event, Den he interrupted somebody asking Devin Haty
- 35:06Speaker 4: a question and he was.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Like, bro, shut up.
- 35:08Speaker 4: You never stopped talking it, which is real, and tell
- 35:11Speaker 4: people just goes fuck Bill.
- 35:13Speaker 3: I don't know, I just I just think that shit
- 35:14Speaker 3: is really really funny.
- 35:15Speaker 4: So it's one of those like tales like gold dude,
- 35:17Speaker 4: I love to hate and hate to love talented fighter.
- 35:21Speaker 3: So you know we're not I'm not talking.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Taking anything away from that, but he definitely is a
- 35:25Speaker 4: attention getter.
- 35:27Speaker 1: So I will say this that fight Shakur is actually
- 35:29Speaker 1: a huge favorite. Minus three fifty is a big favorite.
- 35:34Speaker 1: In this fight.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I didn't was not expecting that. You know, I think
- 35:37Speaker 2: he's gonna win. But yeah, right now it's minus three
- 35:40Speaker 2: fifty minut you got put up three hundred fifty dollars.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I want to hunter back to Femo is plus two
- 35:46Speaker 1: fifty mining that if he wins forever one hundred dollars,
- 35:48Speaker 1: you bet you get two fifty backs.
- 35:49Speaker 2: So it's very interesting betting lines. It seems like Vegas
- 35:53Speaker 2: and Powers that Be have Shakira Stevenson well favored in
- 35:57Speaker 2: this one.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Yeah, not to say that tel Fimo is like over
- 36:01Speaker 4: the hill or anything, but he's as as a close
- 36:05Speaker 4: personal friend of the show, al Bergsten said, he's got
- 36:07Speaker 4: more tread on his tires, you know, like I think
- 36:09Speaker 4: he's twenty eight, he's.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Had a lot more fights, and so I don't know.
- 36:13Speaker 4: I mean, he did seem it seemed to be touching
- 36:16Speaker 4: over for him for a while after he lost to
- 36:18Speaker 4: cambosos Uh and then he had I remember a fight
- 36:22Speaker 4: after that where he won but he didn't look that
- 36:24Speaker 4: great blah blah blah. So there was conversation of you know,
- 36:27Speaker 4: has Tail lost it, et cetera. I think he's come
- 36:29Speaker 4: back strong.
- 36:30Speaker 3: I think he still.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Got it, but definitely, you know, more has more fights
- 36:37Speaker 4: and more experiences on him than chakhor so.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Plus the thing twenty eight, that's that's uh.
- 36:42Speaker 4: You're basically a Gramby in the sports, you know, not
- 36:44Speaker 4: that he's old at all, but we got to be
- 36:46Speaker 4: real about it. At boxing is a young man's game
- 36:48Speaker 4: and this could be you know, the handoff, the trade
- 36:51Speaker 4: off to the new big superstar, this at this weight class.
- 36:55Speaker 3: So I don't know, I don't know.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Are you are you expecting personally Jameson, Are you expecting
- 37:00Speaker 4: a Stevenson win?
- 37:02Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, absolutely, Like I think it should have This
- 37:06Speaker 2: fight should pie taking place six months ago or not.
- 37:09Speaker 2: It should have happened sooner. But that's the here nor there.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Okay, they've been this has been talked to all over
- 37:13Speaker 1: a year now, these two fighting, So I'm glad we
- 37:15Speaker 1: finally got it. But yeah, Stevenson's a better fighter, you know, younger,
- 37:21Speaker 1: more athletic, faster, you know, more sharper. He's the guy
- 37:25Speaker 1: that I said, Vegas coming out this strong with these odds,
- 37:28Speaker 1: it makes sense.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I would also predict the Stevenson win for sure.
- 37:34Speaker 3: The only thing that I don't want.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Is both of these guys kind of avoiding each other
- 37:38Speaker 4: because they're both very skilled. They're fast on their feet,
- 37:41Speaker 4: and then they're good at getting in moving out, you know, actually.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Get in there and dig in.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Neither of fighters that will stand at the center of
- 37:48Speaker 4: the ring and fight each other stand toe to toe
- 37:51Speaker 4: if they don't need to. Stevenson has shown that he
- 37:53Speaker 4: can do it absolutely. But you know, these styles are
- 37:58Speaker 4: I guess say they have similar styles and how they
- 38:01Speaker 4: move and how they fast they are on their feet,
- 38:03Speaker 4: the hitting and the hit and don't get hit aspect
- 38:06Speaker 4: of it, right. But but I am excited, you know,
- 38:09Speaker 4: And as long as they they really come to to
- 38:12Speaker 4: to actually beat the shit out of each other and
- 38:15Speaker 4: put on a good show, I'm for it. So yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 4: I mean I I definitely would say I would say
- 38:24Speaker 4: if it goes the distance, I don't see a knockout on.
- 38:27Speaker 1: The other end, Yeah, and then out boxing Chakuer though, well,
- 38:32Speaker 1: I'd be shocked if that happened.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm trying to think of a fight. I believe
- 38:37Speaker 4: it was last year. I think maybe that that I
- 38:41Speaker 4: saw Stevenson. I believe it was the one that was
- 38:43Speaker 4: on my birthday, and I do forget who he fought.
- 38:47Speaker 4: I'm sorry, tell Femo, tell Fema fought less here forget
- 38:50Speaker 4: who it was. Came out with the wind, but definitely
- 38:54Speaker 4: look like he got out classed an outbox in this one.
- 38:56Speaker 4: And like he to me, he won, but like barely.
- 38:59Speaker 4: So again, Tail isn't you know, invincible undefeedable.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Uh, and he's not.
- 39:06Speaker 4: On out classible, that's unout boxable. And I think Stevenson's
- 39:12Speaker 4: got the good. So I think this is the fight that,
- 39:15Speaker 4: based on their personalities, like the promotion needs to go
- 39:19Speaker 4: real hard on you know, the interviews, the clips, the reels,
- 39:22Speaker 4: the shorts of them, you know, uh, messing with each other,
- 39:26Speaker 4: all of that stuff I think can get regular people
- 39:28Speaker 4: interested in boxing with two dynamic personalities engaging guys.
- 39:32Speaker 3: I think this is one where.
- 39:34Speaker 4: The personalities are right and it's fun. It's not not
- 39:38Speaker 4: just like Mike Tyson throwing to murder somebody and like
- 39:40Speaker 4: sexually you know, debase them and you know, eat their
- 39:42Speaker 4: bones or whatever. This could be a little bit more
- 39:45Speaker 4: lighthearted between them, and I think it's I think it
- 39:48Speaker 4: could be really really good opportunity to bring in new fans,
- 39:52Speaker 4: and especially again because these guys are young especially shakor
- 39:56Speaker 4: people that want to uh find a new fighter and
- 39:59Speaker 4: then and.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Follow them for a while and become fans.
- 40:01Speaker 4: You know, like the field is right, the opportunity here
- 40:05Speaker 4: is just like it's theirs for the taking.
- 40:08Speaker 3: So please don't.
- 40:08Speaker 4: Screw this upright, be different than I don't know, like
- 40:12Speaker 4: if I became an archer better b a fan like
- 40:14Speaker 4: this year, I still a great fighter, but there's like
- 40:18Speaker 4: years and years that I missed out on, you know
- 40:20Speaker 4: what I mean.
- 40:20Speaker 3: It's not like that.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Yeah, anyway, so well almost there, twenty twenty six is
- 40:27Speaker 4: around the corner, and I'm really excited about what's gonna
- 40:30Speaker 4: happen there. But in the meantime, let's switch gears and
- 40:33Speaker 4: move on to our segment that we call pop Pugilism,
- 40:36Speaker 4: in which we discussed a movie, TV show, documentary about boxing.
- 40:40Speaker 3: And today I went back.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Into the nineties. Ask ask your parents or grandparents about
- 40:46Speaker 4: the Nighties. Kids to talk about The Great White Hype
- 40:48Speaker 4: from nineteen ninety six, directed by Reginald Hudland, starring Samuel Jackson,
- 40:54Speaker 4: Jeff Goldbloom, Damon Wayne's, Peterberg, Jimmy Fox, stacked cast. That's
- 40:58Speaker 4: not even everybody in the cast but big names, but
- 41:00Speaker 4: it is absolutely stacked. So the story it is, it's
- 41:04Speaker 4: a boxing comedy, it's a satire about the boxing world.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Samuel Jackson essentially plays a don king caricature trying to
- 41:13Speaker 4: make a fight for his fighter, Damon Wayns. The Grim
- 41:17Speaker 4: Reaper Roper is the name of the fight. Really stupid
- 41:20Speaker 4: name for a fake fighter. Like, I know it's a comedy,
- 41:23Speaker 4: but that's pretty stupid. But anyway, so Samuel Jackson is
- 41:26Speaker 4: trying to make a fight. His whole thing is Damon
- 41:29Speaker 4: Waynes's most recent fight was a financial flop because audiences
- 41:35Speaker 4: are tighter seeing black versus black fighters, they need a
- 41:38Speaker 4: white guy to inspire the hopes of white boxing fans.
- 41:43Speaker 4: So he ends up finding Peter Berg, an amateur fighter
- 41:47Speaker 4: who defeated Damon Wayns, and convinces him to get back
- 41:49Speaker 4: in the ring. Uh and essentially a marketing a marketing
- 41:53Speaker 4: scam to try to, you know, build some hype of
- 41:56Speaker 4: the idea of a.
- 41:57Speaker 3: White heavyweight fighter.
- 41:59Speaker 4: So yeah, just before we get to talk about some
- 42:02Speaker 4: more about this movie and how it fits into the
- 42:04Speaker 4: boxing world and race and culture, what did you think
- 42:06Speaker 4: about it as it was Jameson, So.
- 42:08Speaker 2: I remember this watching this movie when it came out,
- 42:10Speaker 2: I remember watching in the nineties. I remember it'd be
- 42:14Speaker 2: on HBO forever and Cinemax forever, so I've seen it
- 42:18Speaker 2: hundreds of times, hundreds, hundreds hundred of time.
- 42:20Speaker 1: It was basically a playoff Don King, basically, that's kind
- 42:25Speaker 1: of what it was. And it was interesting because a
- 42:27Speaker 1: lot of a lot of the things you hear about,
- 42:30Speaker 1: like boxes have a bunch of cars and.
- 42:32Speaker 2: They get paid and everything but money. So it was
- 42:34Speaker 2: definitely fascinating.
- 42:35Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, we know what
- 42:38Speaker 1: makes boxing, and boxing makes mixed culture fights. That's what
- 42:43Speaker 1: brings out the biggest car because you have two different
- 42:46Speaker 1: types of people interested in the fight.
- 42:48Speaker 2: So this one was a case of black versus white,
- 42:52Speaker 2: which was very big up until probably about the you know,
- 42:56Speaker 2: the two thousands. Then ever since the it's been you know, black,
- 43:01Speaker 2: Mexican black, and some sort of Hispanic you know, country
- 43:06Speaker 2: or culture. So that's been the shift.
- 43:08Speaker 1: But it was cool, it was funny, but it really
- 43:11Speaker 1: depicted a lot of what we've known boxing to be about,
- 43:15Speaker 1: so that's that was cool.
- 43:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't I remember seeing this on HBO while
- 43:20Speaker 4: channel surfing. I've never seen it all the way through.
- 43:22Speaker 4: I didn't know that much about it, but I've seen
- 43:24Speaker 4: bits and pieces, like it's definitely familiar, but not enough
- 43:26Speaker 4: that I knew the story.
- 43:28Speaker 3: And also I don't I don't know that. When I
- 43:31Speaker 3: was a kid, I really.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Knew the the idea of the Great White Hope being
- 43:35Speaker 4: a real thing. So and sorry for those of you
- 43:37Speaker 4: who don't know, Uh, that's the thing that people will
- 43:40Speaker 4: find a white fighter that they would call the Great
- 43:43Speaker 4: White Hope because the desirous for them to beat the
- 43:46Speaker 4: black heavyweight champion.
- 43:48Speaker 3: Like it's not subtle.
- 43:50Speaker 4: They're absolutely saying, like, we don't like that there's a
- 43:53Speaker 4: black heavyweight champ, and we need to find.
- 43:55Speaker 3: A white guy to defeat him.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Like that's been a thing that's been going on forever
- 43:59Speaker 4: of boxing. So that's kind of.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Why, Yes, that's why Rocky's created and had a bunch
- 44:05Speaker 1: of spinoffs.
- 44:06Speaker 2: That's basically like when.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Rocky first came out in the late seventies early eighties,
- 44:10Speaker 1: the heavyweight visual thing ran by black guys. So the
- 44:14Speaker 1: thought of a random white underdog guy, you know, being
- 44:17Speaker 1: able to be a black heavyweight champ was a thing.
- 44:19Speaker 1: So the reason why we've had several of these types
- 44:21Speaker 1: of movies come out over the years. Is it kind
- 44:24Speaker 1: of tells a story of what they want or wish
- 44:27Speaker 1: to see, but a lot of times ain't reality.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and that's uh. I do like the
- 44:34Speaker 4: idea that they take that concept and make it into
- 44:37Speaker 4: a satirical comedy. I like that it shows the darker
- 44:40Speaker 4: side of boxing. I always enjoy when movies do that,
- 44:43Speaker 4: even though you know, absolutely love the sport. It's the
- 44:45Speaker 4: only sport I've ever truly cared about, I've ever been
- 44:48Speaker 4: invested in, I've ever been passionate about. But I'm also
- 44:52Speaker 4: realistic and I've dummy. Like I know, it's it's it's corrupted,
- 44:55Speaker 4: it's it's fucked up, and you know, people get screwed over,
- 44:58Speaker 4: people die, people get injured, it's very dangerous. I just
- 45:01Speaker 4: kind of always like show a little bit of everything.
- 45:05Speaker 4: You know, a lot of boxing movies we watch and
- 45:07Speaker 4: talk about on the show.
- 45:08Speaker 3: You know, their triumphant stories.
- 45:10Speaker 4: You know, boxing brings people out of poverty, you know,
- 45:12Speaker 4: it brings them into fame, blah.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Blah blah, and that's cool.
- 45:16Speaker 4: Like I'm I'm happy to watch those movies, but I
- 45:19Speaker 4: do like this one that it's got shady backroom dealings.
- 45:22Speaker 4: It's got you know, money changing hands for to hype
- 45:26Speaker 4: up a fighter who just for the sake of the
- 45:30Speaker 4: the show and not.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Really the good of the sport, et cetera. You know,
- 45:36Speaker 3: so that I enjoyed.
- 45:37Speaker 4: I did get some laughs, you know, some some stuff
- 45:40Speaker 4: it doesn't hold up as well. You know, I do
- 45:42Speaker 4: appreciate the race stuff. The jokes about Race Star are
- 45:46Speaker 4: being front and center. It does not shy away from
- 45:48Speaker 4: any of that. You got John Reyes Davies, who plays
- 45:52Speaker 4: Gimli and Lord of the Rings, telling Peter Berg is like,
- 45:55Speaker 4: do it for the white race. You're Irish but they're
- 45:57Speaker 4: basically white, which is I almost relief.
- 46:01Speaker 3: I was like, okay.
- 46:01Speaker 4: I mean, also, it's a little hard to watch because
- 46:03Speaker 4: John Rees dave Is as the person is pretty racist.
- 46:06Speaker 4: I remember him just like just going off on Terra's
- 46:09Speaker 4: about Muslims and how terrible they are from being Muslims.
- 46:13Speaker 3: So that guy's just scum back.
- 46:14Speaker 4: But there's some lines here that I'm like, it's it's
- 46:17Speaker 4: that that I like, Okay, it's not funny when somebody
- 46:20Speaker 4: says it's seriously, but with it when.
- 46:21Speaker 3: It's in a comedic movie. It got me. It's not
- 46:24Speaker 3: okay to say, and you know, in in in mixed.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Company, but uh, but yeah, I I liked, Like I said,
- 46:32Speaker 4: the cast is cool. Uh, Peter Berg playing Irish Terry Conklin,
- 46:39Speaker 4: The The Contender, The Challenger.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Uh. He actually ended up being.
- 46:43Speaker 4: A popular director. I don't think his movies are very good. Uh,
- 46:48Speaker 4: but he's a well known director now. He works a
- 46:50Speaker 4: lot with Markey Mark. He did all the uh all
- 46:52Speaker 4: the Marky Mark saves, you know, people from real tragic
- 46:56Speaker 4: events like the deep water Horizon oil rig thing, the
- 47:00Speaker 4: Boston Marathon bombing thing. All those are Peterburgerys. He makes
- 47:03Speaker 4: kind of basic action movies. But so I've known about
- 47:06Speaker 4: that guy for a long long time. I knew he
- 47:07Speaker 4: did acting, but I've never actually seen him in like
- 47:10Speaker 4: an extended role. He did he did okay, But I
- 47:15Speaker 4: just think he portrayed the ridiculous character pretty well. Another
- 47:19Speaker 4: great line was they announced him at the press conference
- 47:22Speaker 4: as Irish Harry Conkline. Backstage, he says, I've got Irish,
- 47:25Speaker 4: and John Lovett says.
- 47:27Speaker 3: It's boxing. It just means your white kid out there.
- 47:30Speaker 3: So so that got me.
- 47:32Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean I here's one thing that I
- 47:39Speaker 4: was I was really curios about this movie that I
- 47:40Speaker 4: want to get your take on.
- 47:41Speaker 3: This is very much an inside boxing movie.
- 47:44Speaker 4: Like I enjoyed it and I appreciate what it was
- 47:48Speaker 4: doing because I know boxing. But I can't imagine that
- 47:51Speaker 4: a lot of people who just want to watch like
- 47:53Speaker 4: a like a comedy or fans of Samuel L. Jackson,
- 47:55Speaker 4: for example, that they'll really connect with this. I mean,
- 47:58Speaker 4: but again, this is the ninety six when boxing was huge.
- 48:01Speaker 4: It's not like it was now, you know. I just
- 48:04Speaker 4: want to see what your what your thoughts on and
- 48:06Speaker 4: whether how accessible this movie would be that somebody is
- 48:09Speaker 4: not a boxing fanatic and boxing obsess like we are.
- 48:13Speaker 2: With that being said, I think it did enough to
- 48:18Speaker 2: show the back ground of the sport while being funny
- 48:22Speaker 2: and engaging. And I think that's a big thing.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Being able to show things in a funny light and
- 48:30Speaker 1: a funny light that is a thing that helps a
- 48:34Speaker 1: lot when it comes to these kind of things.
- 48:36Speaker 2: So I definitely think that's the that's the case for sure.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good thing. I'm curious about it because
- 48:43Speaker 4: it's boxing. The actual fights are not front and center,
- 48:47Speaker 4: and the match at the end, it's not very well choreographed.
- 48:51Speaker 4: You can tell these guys didn't do actual boxing training,
- 48:53Speaker 4: which is fine, you know, it's not it's not Michael
- 48:56Speaker 4: Manzali or you know, anything like that, or you know Creed.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Where you can tell that, like, these dudes trained to
- 49:02Speaker 3: be boxers essentially.
- 49:05Speaker 4: But it does seem like it's about the business. I
- 49:07Speaker 4: guess that's what I'm trying to say. It's so much
- 49:09Speaker 4: about the business of boxing that I'm I'm just wondering
- 49:13Speaker 4: your thoughts on you.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Know how.
- 49:15Speaker 2: So thirty years ago boxing was way bigger in this
- 49:19Speaker 2: country than it is today, and a lot of people
- 49:22Speaker 2: who were who were of age, understood and knew more
- 49:25Speaker 2: about the business because at that time you had these
- 49:28Speaker 2: promoters getting sued left.
- 49:30Speaker 1: And right, and you had a lot of horror stories.
- 49:32Speaker 1: You also have a lot of stories about boxers not
- 49:34Speaker 1: getting paid what they were worth. So it's one of
- 49:39Speaker 1: those things where I think at the time it was
- 49:42Speaker 1: perfect because that's a time where Tyson got out of jail.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Also the time.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Where Vander Holyfield something issues with you know, his promoters.
- 49:51Speaker 1: It was just a lot you always heard of boxers
- 49:54Speaker 1: not getting paid their full worth for whatever that meant,
- 49:58Speaker 1: whether the contract was bad, whether the promoters were this janky,
- 50:02Speaker 1: whatever it may have been. We always heard these stories
- 50:05Speaker 1: and these guys are always in courtrooms, and it made
- 50:07Speaker 1: the news.
- 50:08Speaker 2: So I think at the time it was just right.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Okay, I see that.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and Don King was a very, very like prominent figure.
- 50:14Speaker 4: A lot of people knew him, not just the look,
- 50:16Speaker 4: but you know, the way he.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Talked, et cetera. So so I can see.
- 50:19Speaker 4: I can't imagine anybody back then seeing a trailer for
- 50:22Speaker 4: this movie and not going, oh, he's Samuel Jackson is
- 50:26Speaker 4: playing Don King, you know, just with a different name.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Definitely, yeah, yeah, I thought it was fun.
- 50:33Speaker 4: I also now we've seen like a bunch of speaking
- 50:36Speaker 4: of Don King, we seen a bunch of different portrayals
- 50:38Speaker 4: of him.
- 50:38Speaker 3: It's Samuel Jackson playing him a character that is supposed
- 50:41Speaker 3: to be him.
- 50:41Speaker 4: We've seen Big Raims do it in the biopiic for
- 50:44Speaker 4: HBO and in the Sidney Sweeney movie Christy.
- 50:47Speaker 2: We saw it.
- 50:48Speaker 3: Oh, I don't remember his name, but Cutty from the
- 50:50Speaker 3: Wire playing gun King. What are your thoughts on how
- 50:54Speaker 3: sam Jackson sort of embodied the spirit of this character.
- 50:57Speaker 1: I thought it was great, did very well, did very
- 50:59Speaker 1: very well, and we knew what he was doing, right,
- 51:01Speaker 1: we knew, we knew the role he was playing. So
- 51:05Speaker 1: it's very good man. Like I said, acting was actually
- 51:08Speaker 1: really good. They depicted the things that us true sports
- 51:11Speaker 1: and boxing fans know about all the way around, so
- 51:14Speaker 1: it was cool, like no complaints at all to me.
- 51:17Speaker 1: The biggest thing in this particular thing was just showing
- 51:22Speaker 1: the real because all this stuff is real. You also
- 51:24Speaker 1: have a box that didn't take the fight seriously and
- 51:27Speaker 1: then turns it up when it needs to. You know,
- 51:29Speaker 1: all these things that we've seen, those things we've actually
- 51:32Speaker 1: seen before in real life. So it's just like, yeah,
- 51:34Speaker 1: this is all it's based on a true story in
- 51:37Speaker 1: some ways.
- 51:37Speaker 2: To perform, that's just kind of how it goes. But now,
- 51:40Speaker 2: it was definitely a good boxing movie. It's actually a
- 51:43Speaker 2: movie I would have someone to watch if they wanted
- 51:46Speaker 2: to know more about boxing itself because it covers everything.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I think Samuel Jackson is definitely someone that's
- 51:55Speaker 4: naturally gifted to play a don king because he's you know,
- 51:58Speaker 4: a big character, very carous, magic and just larger than life.
- 52:03Speaker 4: And just to make sure it.
- 52:04Speaker 3: Give a shout out to the then Chadel Coleman is the
- 52:06Speaker 3: actor who played dun King in the movie Christy that
- 52:08Speaker 3: we talked about last episode cutting from the wire. But yeah, no,
- 52:12Speaker 3: I that does.
- 52:13Speaker 4: That is a good point because the it has it
- 52:17Speaker 4: does have a little bit of everything, and if somebody
- 52:19Speaker 4: is I was under the impression while I was watching
- 52:22Speaker 4: that it may turn.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Off non boxing fans, but I can see it from
- 52:25Speaker 3: your perspective.
- 52:26Speaker 4: That it talks about shady business dealings, fighting itself, training,
- 52:31Speaker 4: et cetera, race issues, racism that it is. It could
- 52:36Speaker 4: be a good opening salveo for somebody that wants to
- 52:38Speaker 4: learn about the sport and honestly, for someone, honestly, someone
- 52:41Speaker 4: like me that never really cared that much about behind
- 52:44Speaker 4: the scenes stuff. I've heard the stories, but I always
- 52:46Speaker 4: only cared about what happened when the bell rang. Yeah no,
- 52:50Speaker 4: I kind of seeing it in a different light after talking
- 52:52Speaker 4: about it with you, So yeah. Well, And on the
- 52:55Speaker 4: show we rate movies out of four gloves, Jamison, how
- 52:58Speaker 4: would you rate The Great White Hype?
- 53:00Speaker 2: Oh? Three point like six sixty six? Why? Very very good?
- 53:05Speaker 1: It wasn't perfect acting, but it is starting the purpose
- 53:08Speaker 1: It was really good. Like I say, it's one of
- 53:10Speaker 1: those movies where whenever it was on, I would mess
- 53:12Speaker 1: around and finish watching it.
- 53:14Speaker 2: So it was cool it was always on.
- 53:17Speaker 1: You know, we have hbos in a max se time,
- 53:19Speaker 1: it was always on, So it's kind of nostalgic for me.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:23Speaker 4: I don't think it got a lot of didn't do
- 53:25Speaker 4: a lot of numbers in box office.
- 53:27Speaker 3: It wasn't very critically regarded.
- 53:28Speaker 4: I think it's underrated, underseen and if you're yeah, if
- 53:32Speaker 4: you're a boxing fan at all, a modern day boxing fan,
- 53:35Speaker 4: I want to learn more about how it was in
- 53:37Speaker 4: the nineties. Definitely a strong recommend. I would give this
- 53:40Speaker 4: three point five.
- 53:42Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 53:43Speaker 3: That was definitely check it out.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Yeah, So Jamison, where can people find you on social media?
- 53:51Speaker 2: Before we get a shout out?
- 53:53Speaker 1: I don't know if it's been talked about or anything yet,
- 53:56Speaker 1: but we are getting Crawford and Canelo too, and yes,
- 53:59Speaker 1: Crawford Angel for you win the first one, so we
- 54:01Speaker 1: are getting I would be shocked if we don't get it.
- 54:04Speaker 1: There's no one else either got to fight. There's money there.
- 54:08Speaker 1: The first fight was close enough for them to be
- 54:10Speaker 1: another one, So I think we get an announcement sometime
- 54:14Speaker 1: within the next thirty days or so that we're getting
- 54:16Speaker 1: a second fight between the two.
- 54:18Speaker 4: You know what, it's a it's December, it's Christmas season.
- 54:21Speaker 4: Let's give it a little gift to some extra bonus
- 54:22Speaker 4: content here. Yeah, okay, before yeah, we close off, we
- 54:26Speaker 4: can talk about that. So Bud Cruffer did say he
- 54:28Speaker 4: wants one hundred amas for the fight, get it that
- 54:34Speaker 4: he deserves it. Do you think you can get it
- 54:36Speaker 4: from this?
- 54:37Speaker 3: Yes?
- 54:37Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 54:38Speaker 1: If you if you put out Christmas Days saying hey,
- 54:42Speaker 1: we're fighting in September again, you have an eight month
- 54:45Speaker 1: marketing plan for a rematch, and you go from there.
- 54:49Speaker 2: I think absolutely absolutely. And you're having another.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Football stadium, whether it's a Legion or whatever. Yes, And
- 54:57Speaker 1: it gives you time to put on Amazon flo whomever.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Somebody got the bags. Somebody got it. And that's the thing.
- 55:03Speaker 1: He's at the state of his career. He can't go
- 55:06Speaker 1: back and fight anyone else. There's no one else he
- 55:08Speaker 1: can fight for the money. Like it's like anything else.
- 55:11Speaker 1: Once you get used a certain quality of something, you're
- 55:13Speaker 1: not going back down to the net is not happening.
- 55:16Speaker 1: So I equate the stakes once you have like fine,
- 55:20Speaker 1: fine steak, you're not gonna settle for any old thing
- 55:23Speaker 1: unless you have to.
- 55:24Speaker 2: He don't have to.
- 55:25Speaker 1: He's the guy after in the position to bargain. Also, Canelo.
- 55:29Speaker 1: Canelo don't have a lot of other megafights out there anyway,
- 55:33Speaker 1: even though he's a very popular name. We know the
- 55:36Speaker 1: Mexican people will come out and support him wherever he's
- 55:39Speaker 1: fighting and will watch and we'll be ready.
- 55:42Speaker 2: For the fight the whole nine. So a hundred million
- 55:46Speaker 2: might be a bit steep.
- 55:47Speaker 1: It's one of those things where he might want one hundred,
- 55:49Speaker 1: but he'll set up for seventy five as long as
- 55:52Speaker 1: he's making As long as he's the A side of
- 55:54Speaker 1: the fight this time and making the majority of the purse,
- 55:57Speaker 1: I think he's okay with that. But yeah, here's the thing,
- 56:01Speaker 1: there's no there's no other fight either of them can
- 56:04Speaker 1: fight at this moment, and there's still money for a
- 56:07Speaker 1: second fight.
- 56:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I one hundred percent agree that he deserves it.
- 56:12Speaker 4: Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he doesn't. I'm
- 56:14Speaker 4: just saying wondering how realistic it is. But yeah, I mean,
- 56:16Speaker 4: Canelo his any other option for anybody to be excited
- 56:20Speaker 4: about a Canelo fight, Like really excited would be if
- 56:23Speaker 4: he either he fights Ben the beats, which you won't do,
- 56:25Speaker 4: or rematches Beople.
- 56:26Speaker 3: What you won't do. In my opinion, I really.
- 56:28Speaker 4: Don't see either happening, especially not people because now he
- 56:32Speaker 4: knows that he can't beat the guy.
- 56:35Speaker 2: So yeah, there's a big money in that him fighting
- 56:38Speaker 2: Crawford again and vice versa.
- 56:40Speaker 1: There's big money in that. There's a super Bowl type
- 56:44Speaker 1: of feel with that. Even though the first fight was
- 56:47Speaker 1: what it was, the scorecards were closer than we actually
- 56:50Speaker 1: thought in real life. However, there is money there, and
- 56:55Speaker 1: at the stage of both of these guys careers, there's none.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Other mega fight out there for either guy.
- 57:00Speaker 1: At this time. The longer we wait, the more you risk,
- 57:05Speaker 1: you know, losing out on that fight.
- 57:07Speaker 2: So that's why I said, I think we get announced
- 57:09Speaker 2: within the next thirty to forty five days.
- 57:12Speaker 4: Sure, And you're talking about the money side, what I'm
- 57:14Speaker 4: saying is that in terms of like to be excited,
- 57:17Speaker 4: I'll put it to you this way. So I'm a
- 57:18Speaker 4: Canelo fan, I'm always gonna, you know, tune in for
- 57:20Speaker 4: his fight. I'm aways gonna be excited for his fight
- 57:22Speaker 4: because there is a difference between him fighting but Crawford
- 57:25Speaker 4: versus him fighting honestly, whoever the hell he fought last
- 57:28Speaker 4: time in May of this the Cuban guy.
- 57:32Speaker 3: It was a boring fight. I's sort of like.
- 57:36Speaker 4: I'm not even gonna look it up because I'm literally
- 57:38Speaker 4: just like racking my brain to talk.
- 57:41Speaker 1: Things where both of those dudes are at a stage
- 57:44Speaker 1: where the options.
- 57:45Speaker 2: Are very limited.
- 57:46Speaker 3: Sure, sure, yeah, And for me saying like who else
- 57:49Speaker 3: could he fight?
- 57:49Speaker 4: For me to not just go watch Canello fight because
- 57:52Speaker 4: I like the guy, but who else could like get
- 57:54Speaker 4: me pumped up and like, let's see who you know what?
- 57:56Speaker 3: Uh, you know, if there's a challenge, maybe Canel can
- 57:58Speaker 3: be a bigger guy, et cetera. I'm not really feeling
- 58:02Speaker 3: other than I would be stoked for a bit of
- 58:04Speaker 3: being just fighter.
- 58:04Speaker 4: A BBO rematch, I don't see it happening. And other
- 58:06Speaker 4: than the but Craftord rematch, there's nobody else can I
- 58:09Speaker 4: can fight right now I can think of that would
- 58:10Speaker 4: really really kind of get me hyped, you know what
- 58:12Speaker 4: I'm saying exactly, So, yeah.
- 58:15Speaker 3: I mean I want to see it for sure.
- 58:17Speaker 4: I don't know that I think it could be Canello's
- 58:20Speaker 4: big finale. It's big goodbye. So if he takes a
- 58:24Speaker 4: fight a tune up in May, you know another guy
- 58:26Speaker 4: that not super fights left.
- 58:29Speaker 1: On the deal, right, Yeah, tune up fight in May
- 58:33Speaker 1: and then a September Dasta Swan song and everybody get paid,
- 58:36Speaker 1: everybody have fun and everybody little happily ever after.
- 58:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:40Speaker 4: And I wouldn't say and I say this, I say
- 58:43Speaker 4: this is a fan so you know, please let me
- 58:45Speaker 4: know what your thoughts are. I wouldn't say that would
- 58:46Speaker 4: be a bad career under for Canlo, even if he
- 58:48Speaker 4: loses to butt again. Even if he loses again, I'm
- 58:51Speaker 4: not going to say that, oh he's he went out
- 58:53Speaker 4: like a loser.
- 58:54Speaker 3: Like BM blah blah blahot.
- 58:56Speaker 2: He's fought everyone, like outside of beritaz. Uh. He he's
- 59:00Speaker 2: for everyone.
- 59:01Speaker 1: And you know he's taken all challenges for about fifteen
- 59:06Speaker 1: years now.
- 59:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:12Speaker 4: No, even if he retires on a loss, I'm gonna say,
- 59:14Speaker 4: we're gonna look back at that man's career and be
- 59:16Speaker 4: you know is there's no there's no shame in it.
- 59:19Speaker 4: And uh, he's been excellent fighter excellent not just him
- 59:24Speaker 4: as a fighter, excellent for the sport, you know, the
- 59:27Speaker 4: biggest pay per view star, one of the few pay
- 59:28Speaker 4: per view stars.
- 59:30Speaker 3: Uh, And that's something we're gonna.
- 59:31Speaker 2: Talk for a while. He carried after Floyd retired or
- 59:36Speaker 2: doever you want to call it. He carried it because
- 59:38Speaker 2: he was the main box office guy. He delivered most nights,
- 59:41Speaker 2: so gotta give him credit. Yeah.
- 59:44Speaker 4: The only thing that I might be bound about is
- 59:47Speaker 4: after that fight, if Bud Crawford, you know, he's he's
- 59:51Speaker 4: forty now and he's not a young guy, like we're
- 59:53Speaker 4: not going to see I don't know that we're going
- 59:55Speaker 4: to see much more Budd Crafford now that he's a
- 59:57Speaker 4: big star and he's a big household name after this
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Canel fight. I mean, of course we'll talk more about
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: this throughout the rest of the year. But you know,
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: it's okay. We talked earlier about shakor beats Tale and Shakers.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: Now the guy, because he's got a flourishing career, you
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: hand over.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: The reins of the sport for that nation.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: Canel is not handing shit over to Crawford like comforts.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: You know, as great as he is, he's not going
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: to keep fighting fornt the ten years.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: No, and that's the thing.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: That's why I think another fight gets done because both
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: are kind of on borrow time.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Both are on hell. We need to know, we need
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: to get this done because there's no other payday like this,
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: as well as the opportunity because it's only it's only
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: worth for both of those guys, it's only worth to
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: fight each other instead of fighting other people for the
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: big boy fights.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: Yeah, it's an exciting prospect for the fight and then
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: a really interesting prospect for the boxing world after this happens,
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: and you know, we'll see what what both guys do,
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: if anything, If But does get his hundred, and was like,
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: why help would he go back into the ring after that?
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Anyway?
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Bestly at the age he's at, I mean he got
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: like six kids and I think one of the oven
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: something like that, or five to one on the oven.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: So I mean, if you can get another one hundred,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: if you can get another seventy five on the way
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: out or a hundred on the way out, you got
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: a confessly member. He didn't make a bunch of millions
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: long top rank like that. He was kind of underpaid
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: because with the ESPN deal, top rank being how they are,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: it was kind of weird. So now he gets a
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: one final pay day on the way out. He's already
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: good with money, as is I think he's I think
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: he'll be all right.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, No, I would be excited for I spoke
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: about it right after the first one happened that I
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: want to see a rematch.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: I would be excited for a rematch. Do we really
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: need it? Maybe not necessarily, but I again happens, Yeah.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: Well there's fights that we don't need that I'm like,
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: get that shit out of my face plenty of times,
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: you know what I mean.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: So this is the fight that I need.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: That I personally, Lee would be very excited about. And
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: you know, at the at the end of the day,
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: it's all gonna be.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: That is what do I want to watch? Because yes,
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: we can talk about what's good for the sport.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: But like I don't know, Jake Paul makes a lot
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: of money for the sport and I don't give a shit.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: About him right right anyway, So on.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: That parting shot, literally, yeah, let's uh. As I was saying, Jamison,
