- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:46created for a client that was approaching retirement and that
- 0:51had a successful career and really wanted to make the most
- 0:57of their retirement years. Because for them, retirement
- 1:02could be two different things. It could be, you know, doing
- 1:06what you should be doing, getting, you know, certain
- 1:09things in place, call it pragmatic stuff, admin stuff,
- 1:13but just letting that time slip away.
- 1:15Or it could be a wonderful time of opportunity, of choices, of
- 1:21freedom to finally do the things that they always wanted to do,
- 1:25to have moments of just being present, of creating new
- 1:29connections, of learning new things and doing different
- 1:32experiences. And in the conversation before
- 1:35the hypnosis session, the client unconsciously used a metaphor of
- 1:40a patchwork quilt. And if you've not seen a
- 1:44patchwork quilt, a lot of quilts and blankets these days are just
- 1:47one big piece of material. But a patchwork will is lots and
- 1:52lots of small squares all stitched together to make
- 1:55something big. And it was an excellent metaphor
- 1:58for the fact that, you know, her retirement or these years were
- 2:04going to happen anyway, but they could be full of boring Gray
- 2:08squares when not much happens, or they could be bursting with
- 2:11color and textures and things that would represent incredible
- 2:16moments and memories and adventures and experiences.
- 2:20And that's really what this is all about.
- 2:22So even though it was created for someone transitioning from
- 2:28the world of work to the world of kind of having lots of time
- 2:32to do things, I would say it's an excellent metaphor for
- 2:35anyone. You know, as I was doing the
- 2:37session, I was thinking truly like the next two years, five
- 2:41years, 10 years are going to pass anyway.
- 2:43Wouldn't it be great to think of that time as being filled with
- 2:47things, we taking a few chances and risks and doing things,
- 2:51making the most of the time. So I think anyone could benefit
- 2:54from this session, but it was creative, someone approaching
- 2:58the time where they weren't going to be working full time
- 3:00anymore. So just bear that in mind as you
- 3:02listen to this. And of course, you know, use it
- 3:06if this is useful. But if a bespoke session feels
- 3:08like it could be helpful for you, then you can schedule a
- 3:12completely free consultation call on Zoom by clicking the
- 3:14link in the show notes. We can have a chat and figure
- 3:17out if it's worthwhile doing some sessions entirely for you
- 3:21and your circumstances. But for now, find a quiet,
- 3:24comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 3:27Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 4:28you breathe in, feel like you're breathing in a wonderful feeling
- 4:35of calm relaxation. Imagine it going in through your
- 4:41nose into your lungs, and imagine that relaxation
- 4:47spreading to every cell in your body.
- 4:53And as you exhale, just get a growing sense that tension is
- 5:03being displaced and released, and imagine how good it would
- 5:08feel for the tension to feel like it's leaving your body in
- 5:14your outward breath, breathing in relaxation, exhaling tension
- 5:26as you get this feeling of becoming deeper and deeper,
- 5:32relaxed. And maybe you scan your body and
- 5:42see where it feels like echoes of tension, stress, any worries
- 5:49or anxiety exist for you. Some people have certain muscles
- 5:56tense, they don't even realise. Some people hold tension in
- 6:02their jaw or their forehead, the neck, the shoulders.
- 6:07Sometimes even there's tension in a finger or a toe.
- 6:17Now I want you to get a sense. Then you're giving permission
- 6:23for that tension to be released. And doesn't it feel wonderful to
- 6:31let that tension be released as you feel it leave your body
- 6:41every time you exhale? And notice when you elongate the
- 6:49exhale and breathe out for longer, it feels like you're
- 6:55releasing more of what needs to be released, which in turn
- 7:00invites not just relaxation, but resourceful relaxation to then
- 7:09go on the inhale, breathing in resources and exhaling any
- 7:20limitations, any echoes of the past that no longer serve you.
- 7:30Scan your body for any feelings of judgement, guilt, shame or
- 7:36regrets and allow that to leave your body as you breathe out and
- 7:44breathing in hope, optimism, but also passion and enthusiasm.
- 7:52Feeling like you're becoming more and more resourceful with
- 7:57every inward breath and feel that you're releasing everything
- 8:04that is impeding the very life you desire on your outward
- 8:10breath. And as your body relaxes, your
- 8:16mind begins to drift like a gentle breeze, carrying you
- 8:21towards a place of deep imagination.
- 8:26A place where your future unfolds in vivid colour and
- 8:35wonderful textures. The place where you are the
- 8:40artist, the creator, the author of the next chapter of your
- 8:49life. And I wonder if you could
- 8:54imagine yourself standing before a large open space, like a blank
- 9:03canvas, but instead of paint or words, this canvas will be woven
- 9:14from the very fabric of your life.
- 9:20I want you to imagine material in squares, but imagine them
- 9:31pure white, no texture, no colour, and allow this huge open
- 9:42space of segments of white material to represent a
- 9:49patchwork of possibilities where each patch represents a choice
- 9:58of how to spend your time. I want you to get a sense that
- 10:10time will pass anyway. Some people will create a quilt
- 10:18of grey, plain, almost meaningless patches to create a
- 10:26boring blanket. But I want you to feel a sense
- 10:31of inspiration, an intention. You will create a patchwork of
- 10:43incredible patterns and colours, something exciting and vivid.
- 10:56I want you to get a sense that of course some of these patches
- 11:02will be linked to memories, experiences, the skills and
- 11:09wisdom you've gained. But I want you to get a sense of
- 11:16freedom, excitement as you realise that you are free to add
- 11:25new patches, new colours, new patterns and new textures that
- 11:33reflect the richness of what's to come.
- 11:42As you reach out you find that every choice you make as a new
- 11:49piece to this ever growing quilt.
- 11:56Maybe you have an idea of an upcoming patch that could be
- 12:02grey but you want to make it bursting with colours.
- 12:13You start to think about what these patches could represent.
- 12:19Maybe it's a patch that symbolises a long held dream,
- 12:24something you've always wanted to do but never quite had the
- 12:28time for. And the fabric of this patch
- 12:33might be bold and striking, with vivid Reds and deep Blues or
- 12:40shimmering golds. Just thinking about that long
- 12:48held dream gives you an idea of what that patch could look like.
- 12:55But it only becomes real when you experience it and look at
- 13:04another patch. And maybe it represents a new
- 13:08project or a challenge. Something to keep your mind
- 13:13engaged, something stimulating and fulfilling.
- 13:20Maybe it's learning a new skill, creating something with your
- 13:25hands. Maybe it's writing or painting
- 13:29or teaching or exploring an idea that excites you.
- 13:36Maybe that patch will have an intricate pattern, woven with
- 13:43curiosity and growth. Some of these patches will come
- 13:50from friendships and connections, just time spent
- 13:55together. And maybe that will lead to a
- 14:01fascinating conversation, or perhaps a moment of deep
- 14:10empathy. Laughter could mean brighter
- 14:22colours and other emotions. Maybe different textures, shared
- 14:33experiences, moments of support all contribute to the patches in
- 14:40this ever growing quilt. Some patches will come from
- 14:49quiet moments of mindfulness and just being in the present.
- 14:55Time spent in stillness, in nature, in reflection.
- 15:01A simple yet profound space in your quilt.
- 15:08All of them will influence the colours.
- 15:15I want you to get a sense. Then this quilt will be created
- 15:20anyway. Could be a quilt of patches of
- 15:26grey and brown, plain colours with no textures.
- 15:32Or it could be a quilt bursting with the most vibrant colours,
- 15:38intricate textures, new fabrics, designs like a kaleidoscope of
- 15:48ever changing sensations and intensity.
- 16:00Each patch you represent something that you've
- 16:05experienced. Sometimes just setting the
- 16:12intention creates a self fulfilling prophecy.
- 16:19What if you set the intention to create a quilt that represents a
- 16:27life well lived, nothing left undone, a life without regrets.
- 16:36A quilt full of colour, warmth and meaning.
- 16:46I want you to imagine going forwards in time and seeing how
- 16:50the quilt gets bigger, more colourful, more vibrant and
- 16:57allow it to bring a smile on your face.
- 17:01Because some of these patches will represent doing things
- 17:05you've never done before, overcoming adversity, being free
- 17:12of old habits and introducing new ones.
- 17:17An ever evolving story of your life.
- 17:28I want you to imagine seeing yourself in the last year of
- 17:33your life, way off into the future.
- 17:39See yourself old but smiling as you realize this older version
- 17:45of you is surrounded by a thick, warm, colourful patchwork quilt.
- 17:56And see that older version of you reminiscing of wonderful
- 18:00moments, experiences and stories, enjoying the evolution
- 18:09of their life, feeling proud of what they did and who they
- 18:18became. And if that seems to appeal to
- 18:27create wonderful moments, experiences and positive
- 18:32changes, just let me know. By nodding your head because you
- 18:36are witnessing a patchwork of possibilities manifested into
- 18:43reality, you are unlocking all of the resources needed to make
- 18:52possibilities realities. It's time to return to the
- 18:59present. But you do so feeling inspired,
- 19:04feeling that the past is the past and this point forwards is
- 19:10a blank canvas, infinite blank patches for you to add your
- 19:19colour. So take a deep breath in through
- 19:23your nose and out through your nose.
- 19:28Just wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 19:30Connect fully into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00
- 19:36to 10:00 to awaken you. You will awaken feeling
- 19:40resourceful, inspired, eager to create a wonderful, colourful
- 19:48patch that creates a feeling of momentum starting to count. 123
