- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:30coop. So let's talk about this
- 0:34challenge that we all have when we put things off.
- 0:38Boy, is that something that is such a human trait.
- 0:40It's crazy putting things off, myself included.
- 0:45There are times when I do not want to be disciplined and I do
- 0:48not want to do what I need to do.
- 0:51And I get just whiny about having to do something and I
- 0:56don't whine externally. It's internal whining.
- 0:59It's the fact that I will have these unending chattery
- 1:02conversations with myself. And I know we already talked
- 1:05about chatter earlier in the week, but I I wanted to make
- 1:08sure that this one particular thing about, you know, getting
- 1:13things done, putting things off is such a big deal.
- 1:16Especially now because this particular time, end of year,
- 1:21people feel the crunch coming down.
- 1:23It's like oh, it's going to end. It's going to end, it's going to
- 1:25end. And there are so many things
- 1:27that we want to get done. We put ourselves under this
- 1:30massive amount of pressure and we and then we don't do it.
- 1:33We actually just put it off and we say, OK, I'll get to it
- 1:38later, I'll do it tomorrow, I'll do it tomorrow.
- 1:40And and we know we feel terrible in the process of saying that.
- 1:43We feel absolutely terrible that we are saying I'll do it
- 1:46tomorrow or I have to do this or oh, I don't feel like doing
- 1:50this. And we know we're going to feel
- 1:52better when it's complete, when it's actually done.
- 1:55But what stops us? Why don't we actually do it?
- 1:58Why do we procrastinate it and sit there and let it eat us up?
- 2:03You know, there are many theories on procrastination, but
- 2:07the ones that I find in my work that are very true for a lot of
- 2:11people that I work with it, it it comes down to simple things.
- 2:16There are some things that we just don't like to do simple
- 2:20truth, we don't like to do it. Therefore we absolutely just
- 2:24stop ourselves from doing it. And when you get people to be
- 2:27really honest and you say, well, what's the reason you don't do
- 2:30it? And they're just like, I just
- 2:31hate doing it. You know, if it if we're talking
- 2:32about working out or going to the gym, there's sometimes I'll,
- 2:36I'll be talking to somebody and I'm like, look, you know, you
- 2:38need to do it, right? Yes.
- 2:39You were told you need to lose weight, get healthier, stop
- 2:42eating sugar, whatever it might be, Yes.
- 2:44OK. So what's the reason you don't
- 2:46do it? And then they just stop and they
- 2:47look at, you know, you look at that, that that moment of
- 2:52yourself and you're just going, it's a this is a truth bomb
- 2:56moment. What is it?
- 2:58I just don't want to. But it's hard to hear yourself
- 3:01say, I just don't want to do it. And then you have to say, OK, I
- 3:07get it, you don't want to do it. Do you want to just allow the
- 3:10circumstances of not doing it to take over?
- 3:13No. OK, Well, what can we do to
- 3:16change that? What's a way that we can change
- 3:18that? Is there some part of it that
- 3:21you can break it down and just start doing small things with
- 3:23it? Or is there is there someone you
- 3:26can leverage some of it to? Now the workout stuff?
- 3:29You can't leverage your workouts.
- 3:30Trust me, I tried. You can't.
- 3:32It doesn't work. Even when you start to get
- 3:34accountability buddies to go with you, it doesn't always
- 3:37work. They don't show up.
- 3:38You don't show up. It's really hard to find
- 3:41consistency in this world, and you have to create it for
- 3:46yourself. You really have to create it for
- 3:48yourself. So it's fundamental to say gotta
- 3:52know these little tiny things. Am I telling myself the truth
- 3:55about it? Because you know you're going to
- 3:57feel better when it's done. And if you answer, yeah, I'm
- 4:00going to feel better when it's done, then say, OK, let's get
- 4:04very clear, how long will it take you to actually do whatever
- 4:08it is that you need to do. Be very honest, Don't say 15
- 4:11minutes. If it's going to take 45, tell
- 4:14the truth so that, you know, say, alright, well, I could sit
- 4:18down and just bang it out. It might take me 30 minutes, but
- 4:20I'm going to give myself 45, OK? And then work towards saying to
- 4:25yourself, if I had myself set up, I had the right snacks.
- 4:29If I had the right drinks, if I got myself into the right place,
- 4:32could I get this done? Could I just sit there and do it
- 4:35now? A Full disclosure right now.
- 4:39I went through all of this working on getting ready to
- 4:41launch the website. It was so much work, so many
- 4:44questions, so many details. I did not do it by myself.
- 4:48I had my team helping me and it was still every, every question
- 4:52comes back to Kim, what about this?
- 4:54Do you want this? Do you want this?
- 4:55And I got to the point where I was sick of making decisions.
- 4:58I got sick of making decisions and I felt all wrapped up in it
- 5:04and I didn't want to do it anymore.
- 5:06And I was just saying to myself, I just want this to be done
- 5:10well. When you get to the point where
- 5:11you just want it to be done and you're agonizing over it and you
- 5:16know you're going to feel better when it's done.
- 5:18I kept getting up, taking a deep breath, going for a quick walk,
- 5:21coming back in, sitting down and saying, OK, I've got 130 minute
- 5:25gap, what can I do right now? Pick one thing, do it, get up,
- 5:29celebrate it right down. That's my win.
- 5:31Walk away. So at the end of the day, when I
- 5:33could have the 15 minutes, the 10 minutes, the 30 minutes, I
- 5:36could tally up all those times that I could get things done and
- 5:41then be able to look at it and say, wow, I did actually get a
- 5:43lot done today. That is the best way around this
- 5:47because you know you're going to feel better when it's done.
- 5:49So just try to break down the process.
- 5:53Little tiny bits. We do not try to eat the entire
- 5:56sandwich in one bite. We try to break it down.
- 5:59We don't want to choke. Hopefully this is helpful.
- 6:03Hopefully you're going to get to work on it and you'll be able to
- 6:05take your projects to the end of the year and finish them strong.
- 6:09All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 6:11see you tomorrow. Bye.
