Speaker 1: You do get that. The show doesn't with the clips
• 1:49
Speaker 1: to that's it the show. Let me wrote the strategy
• 1:52
Speaker 1: for the show. We said, it's a.
• 1:54
Speaker 2: Show, yeah, that's radio yeah yeah, and were vexed us
• 1:59
Speaker 2: by Marcus is here for it was audio only. We
• 2:01
Speaker 2: would be just in a corner somewhere with an iPhone. Yeah.
• 2:05
Speaker 2: Anybody can never forgetting.
• 2:06
Speaker 1: We were looking at shows in the space and there
• 2:08
Speaker 1: was this one show that had like one hundred and
• 2:11
Speaker 1: fifty shows. She was one hundred and fifty shows in
• 2:15
Speaker 1: and on the first episode it was like your microphone's
• 2:19
Speaker 1: not working. It's really low and you need to turn
• 2:22
Speaker 1: your mic or get a new microphone up. Yeah, And
• 2:25
Speaker 1: it was consistently through like the one hundred and fifty
• 2:29
Speaker 1: shows people. Yeah, I can't hear you on your microphone.
• 2:31
Speaker 1: I mean that's kind of like we were never looked
• 2:32
  Speaker 1: at the concept.
• 2:33
Speaker 2: We were for the first couple episodes, but we like
• 2:35
Speaker 2: trying to get a little bit better each time. I
• 2:38
Speaker 2: was like, wow, just after that was like wead the comments. Yeah, yeah,
• 2:43
Speaker 2: maybe she like just vows not to She's like, I'm
• 2:45
Speaker 2: just gonna stay out of the comversation, all right.
• 2:47
Speaker 1: Anyway, Hey, listen, you know the drill send us. We
• 2:51
Speaker 1: dive into some jaw dropping story. Some of these things
• 2:54
Speaker 1: are really funny, some not so much. And there's actually
• 2:58
Speaker 1: some good redemption stories too. So if you've got a
• 3:00
Speaker 1: story and it's about it's about hiring, and it's the
• 3:04
Speaker 1: type of story you'd tell if you're sitting around with
• 3:06
Speaker 1: a bunch of friends after ours, joking about what it's
• 3:09
Speaker 1: like the tough life for being a recruiter and talent
• 3:13
Speaker 1: acquisition and melting team tiring manager, building teams. Yeah, for sure,
• 3:17
Speaker 1: share it with us.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: We love to hear it.
• 3:18
Speaker 1: And don't forget, we're running that ten thousand dollars contest.
• 3:20
Speaker 1: So if you submit it to us at the Badhire
• 3:22
Speaker 1: Dot com and you've got the best story of the year,
• 3:26
Speaker 1: You're win ten thousand dollars. We'll select it, We'll select
• 3:28
Speaker 1: the best ones, send it out for ten thousand bucks.
• 3:30
Speaker 1: And then finally, what do we got visitors?
• 3:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, Morgan Day and I and so.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, so submit us and get the and win ten
• 3:41
Speaker 1: thousand dollars. And then also, you know, we're reaching out
• 3:45
Speaker 1: to a lot of folks trying to get as many
• 3:46
Speaker 1: stories told as we can. We have these segments that
• 3:49
Speaker 1: we do, which is really great. Share a couple today,
• 3:52
Speaker 1: but it's where you know, you don't have to come
• 3:55
Speaker 1: on the show and try to organize that whole thing.
• 3:58
Speaker 2: It's not love. It's not love.
• 4:00
  Speaker 1: I have a lot of pressure. Yeah, it's well, we'll
• 4:03
Speaker 1: connect you with uh Nathan or another producer and then
• 4:07
Speaker 1: they will just fire up, you know, almost like a
• 4:11
Speaker 1: zoom meeting or teams meeting with better technology than that,
• 4:15
Speaker 1: and and uh chat with these a little bit and
• 4:17
Speaker 1: then you can tell your story and share and uh people.
• 4:21
Speaker 1: You know, people enjoy it. They do a good job
• 4:24
Speaker 1: telling their stories. And you know, we were thinking of other day,
• 4:28
Speaker 1: it'd be fun to have one where everyone's all blurred
• 4:30
Speaker 1: out the whole time you wou change their voice.
• 4:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, that'd be fair. Read that stories we have randall
• 4:36
Speaker 2: do that probably would?
• 4:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, like posture to do my face out? I was like, yeah,
• 4:42
Speaker 3: we're just put a black box over your face the
• 4:44
  Speaker 3: question mark.
• 4:45
Speaker 2: Can I me raand will probably have some stories you
• 4:46
Speaker 2: could tell like that. Oh you should the story in
• 4:49
Speaker 2: southern accent. That'll be great anyway, So that'd be awesome.
• 4:52
Speaker 1: But uh, yeah, do that. We'd love for you to submit,
• 4:55
Speaker 1: and then we'd love for you to do a segment
• 4:57
  Speaker 1: on the show.
• 4:57
  Speaker 3: So do it.
• 4:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, listen, so.
• 5:00
Speaker 1: Jump right in here. This is a story says I
• 5:03
Speaker 1: manage a pizza place. It's a pretty standard operation. You
• 5:08
Speaker 1: take your deliveries and nothing's going out. You help around
• 5:11
Speaker 1: the kitchen. You know that means dishes, wiping things down.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: You know, that's just how it works. We hired a
• 5:18
Speaker 1: new delivery drawer. On his first day, he goes out
• 5:21
Speaker 1: on his very first rush the first day, flame mouthfast.
• 5:25
Speaker 1: He then comes back and everything seems fun. There's no
• 5:29
Speaker 1: deliveries waiting, so I walk over and say, hey, while slow,
• 5:34
Speaker 1: we do dishes and help clean up in between runs. Okay,
• 5:38
Speaker 1: he looks at me and says completely straight face, Hey,
• 5:42
  Speaker 1: that's a woman's work. I don't do women's work.
• 5:45
Speaker 2: Yikes. Immediately, No, oh my josh, here we found a
• 5:49
Speaker 2: couple of those stories too.
• 5:51
Speaker 3: Immediately, No, your girl, man, you can wash your dishes.
• 5:55
Speaker 1: Emma space, just straight light.
• 6:01
Speaker 3: Say that to me.
• 6:06
Speaker 2: I retired him. Right then, let's get on the spot.
• 6:10
Speaker 1: That conversation, the one I just described, that was the
• 6:14
Speaker 1: whole interaction, start to finish, nothing before it, nothing after it.
• 6:18
  Speaker 1: It's women's work. Get out, you're do women's work.
• 6:22
  Speaker 3: You're done, You're fired.
• 6:24
  Speaker 2: That's crazy.
• 6:26
Speaker 1: He had been employed for us for a duration of
• 6:29
  Speaker 1: one pizza delivery.
• 6:30
  Speaker 2: One pizza.
• 6:31
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 6:32
Speaker 1: People always ask what I said after that. Honestly, not much.
• 6:35
Speaker 1: What else was there to say? One delivery? That was
• 6:38
Speaker 1: his whole pizza career.
• 6:39
Speaker 2: Well put it on his resume, how many pizzas delivered? One?
• 6:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a That was a I was You
• 6:47
Speaker 1: can't actually say I delivered pizzas.
• 6:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, delivered. I delivered pizza.
• 6:51
Speaker 3: He did not deliver the pizza.
• 6:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
• 6:54
Speaker 3: He did not deliver the pizza.
• 6:55
Speaker 2: Emma did not like that.
• 6:58
Speaker 3: That was not good.
• 6:59
Speaker 2: That was a So that's rough. That was one of
• 7:02
Speaker 2: our first early stories where like a guy started some
• 7:05
Speaker 2: computer coding job and like a supervisor was a woman
• 7:09
Speaker 2: and he was like no to that. Yeah, it's sick, insane,
• 7:13
Speaker 2: like that level of misogy. You just like slipped through
• 7:17
Speaker 2: the interview process. I guess before we dive.
• 7:20
Speaker 4: Back into the chaos on the bad hire, this episode
• 7:22
Speaker 4: is brought to you by b Checks. Hiring shouldn't feel

• 7:55
Speaker 4: your sanity. Go to bchecks dot io. That's BC eight
• 8:00
  Speaker 4: ex dot io.
• 8:03
Speaker 2: All right, here we go.
• 8:04
Speaker 1: I think we got Jeremy, Yeah, you know the he
• 8:08
Speaker 1: met with you, Denny, Yeah, he.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: On the last episode two. We got a couple close
• 8:12
Speaker 2: with them. So this is is the second story.
• 8:14
Speaker 1: All right, let's hear it.
• 8:15
Speaker 5: I tell clients that we work with all the time,
• 8:17
Speaker 5: you know, about how the importance of conducting background checks
• 8:20
Speaker 5: and really verifying all the information. You know, I came
• 8:23
Speaker 5: from old school kind of teaching that anything that a
• 8:26
Speaker 5: candidate put on an application or on their resume, we
• 8:29
Speaker 5: need to vet because it's the only thing we know
• 8:32
Speaker 5: to be able to see are they telling the truth
• 8:34
  Speaker 5: to us?
• 8:35
  Speaker 6: Right?
• 8:35
Speaker 5: Even if there were you know, a degree wasn't required
• 8:39
Speaker 5: for a job, but yet they had a degree. We
• 8:42
Speaker 5: should verify that to make sure that it's actually true,
• 8:45
Speaker 5: because they could be thinking that we're not going to
• 8:47
Speaker 5: verify and hiding something or trying to path off that
• 8:50
Speaker 5: they have it. So we should verify everything they tell
• 8:53
Speaker 5: us because that just really builds up their credibility and
• 8:56
Speaker 5: our trust and how we determine if they're a good
• 8:58
Speaker 5: fit for the organization, been a good hire.
• 9:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, So I think that's him kind of bouncing off
• 9:04
Speaker 2: of last story pretty much. So, like last episode, Jeremy
• 9:07
Speaker 2: told a story where essentially he's interviewing somebody and then
• 9:12
Speaker 2: they're like, oh, yeah, here's my college experience, and then
• 9:16
Speaker 2: they like just pretty much made up the whole thing,
• 9:18
Speaker 2: and then he called the school and realized that they
• 9:19
Speaker 2: lied about the whole thing. So that's kind of saying, oh, yeah,
• 9:22
Speaker 2: that's the guy who Yeah.
• 9:23
Speaker 1: Him just kind of tightly did the whole fake transcript this,
• 9:26
Speaker 1: And so I think I kind of had a fansy
• 9:27
Speaker 1: call and say, you know, hey, I have someone from
• 9:29
Speaker 1: the college call tell you, which I thought was funny.
• 9:32
Speaker 2: So I think it was like a common thing that
• 9:33
Speaker 2: we run into allow for people to make up stuff,
• 9:36
Speaker 2: whether he's experience or education. We have won social clip
• 9:39
Speaker 2: we recorded with Ken where like like the CEO of
• 9:42
Speaker 2: Yahoo years ago made up the fact that he had
• 9:45
Speaker 2: a certain three h There was.
• 9:46
Speaker 1: A big executive here had.
• 9:50
  Speaker 2: Same exactly.
• 9:50
  Speaker 1: I don't want to say his name because I won't
• 9:52
Speaker 1: get a rib it. It was on readit somewhere he
• 9:54
Speaker 1: was an executive here, same exact thing. Leaden said he
• 9:57
Speaker 1: had a master's degree, didn't you know, and the raalities
• 10:00
Speaker 1: he wouldn't have gotten the path he did had he not,
• 10:03
Speaker 1: you know, because he didn't he didn't he didn't do it.
• 10:06
Speaker 1: And then probably you know, because he said it was
• 10:08
Speaker 1: from a prestigeou school. That happens all the time. Well,
• 10:11
  Speaker 1: it's crazy.
• 10:11
  Speaker 2: It's like he's saying, it's crazy that people just don't
• 10:14
Speaker 2: think that they're going to follow up on stuff, you
• 10:16
Speaker 2: to put whatever on your resume.
• 10:17
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, he had something interesting. His point was
• 10:20
Speaker 1: even if they it wasn't required. And I had a client,
• 10:23
Speaker 1: a very large client, and this became a contention between
• 10:26
Speaker 1: my business and theirs, and you know, we, uh, the
• 10:35
Speaker 1: recruiters began to if if someone I'm making sure I
• 10:42
Speaker 1: tell a story around for anybody in the bus. But
• 10:44
Speaker 1: you know, there was certainly Yeah, the recruiters were had
• 10:47
Speaker 1: a lot of pressure to place and they would verify
• 10:53
Speaker 1: like an education, right and they say they had a
• 10:56
Speaker 1: degree and then find out we'd say, well they don't.
• 11:00
Speaker 1: And then they would go, well it's okay, just take
• 11:03
Speaker 1: it off because it's not required for the role. And
• 11:06
Speaker 1: I would be like, but they lied to you, you know,
• 11:11
Speaker 1: I mean they just straight lied to you. They made
• 11:14
Speaker 1: they didn't just like yeah, you know, like slip out
• 11:19
Speaker 1: while they were talking. Yeah, no, when I you know,
• 11:20
Speaker 1: instead of saying I intended to, they say I graduated.
• 11:23
Speaker 1: I mean they put it on a resume, yeah right,
• 11:27
Speaker 1: and I don't know. And and it became a regular
• 11:29
Speaker 1: thing that if they if we you know, we were
• 11:31
Speaker 1: doing a lot of verification work that if they call
• 11:33
Speaker 1: people lying, they would figure out what they could do
• 11:36
Speaker 1: to like just remove that search track like it didn't happen,
• 11:40
Speaker 1: you know, and so they could get them placed. Because
• 11:44
Speaker 1: of the amount of sheer pressure they were under to place.
• 11:49
Speaker 1: You know, it became an issue for us because we
• 11:52
Speaker 1: were like, sooner or later this is gonna someone's gonna
• 11:55
Speaker 1: this is gonna come up, and everyone's gonna look at
• 11:58
Speaker 1: the background check company.
• 11:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, like yeah, you guys miss this, We're that to you. Yeah,
• 12:04
Speaker 2: And maybe maybe things have changed over the last twenty
• 12:07
Speaker 2: thirty forty years where like maybe you used to be
• 12:09
Speaker 2: able to just throw whatever on a resume and nobody
• 12:12
Speaker 2: would know any better. But now it's like there's so
• 12:15
Speaker 2: much technology with the background checks and you can just
• 12:17
Speaker 2: you can find everything. And so I'm always looking for
• 12:20
Speaker 2: different like social media clips for us to react to
• 12:23
Speaker 2: for our content, and a lot of times I'll find
• 12:25
Speaker 2: tiktoks where there's recruiters and their best piece of advice
• 12:28
Speaker 2: to people who are looking for job is like, stop
• 12:31
Speaker 2: lying on your resume. It's not going to work. Like
• 12:33
Speaker 2: people keep trying it, even in twenty twenty six and
• 12:36
Speaker 2: always get a fine. You see the.
• 12:37
Speaker 1: Reddit themes on that where people are saying, lie, lie, lie, lie,
• 12:40
Speaker 1: they don't check. I would say that the overwhelming majority
• 12:44
Speaker 1: do or it eventually catches you. It doesn't always catch you. Yeah, yeah,
• 12:48
Speaker 1: put the man. Imagine the amount of time and energy
• 12:51
  Speaker 1: you get.
• 12:52
Speaker 2: Who knows somewhere like yeah, waving the guy at at Yahoo.
• 12:58
Speaker 2: It's on Reddit's public information, like I guess, see, got
• 13:01
Speaker 2: through somewhere and then eventually got found.
• 13:03
Speaker 3: You know about it for years and then it finally
• 13:07
Speaker 3: comes always comes out.
• 13:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I always always believe in just uh, I'm
• 13:13
Speaker 1: youe believer in telling the truth, right, you know, give
• 13:15
Speaker 1: your context, give your story. Don't try to lie your
• 13:19
Speaker 1: way into a job. Yeah, learn how to talk about
• 13:21
Speaker 1: your journey and learn to you know, learned to skills.
• 13:28
Speaker 1: Go get a job.
• 13:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, how to talk to people. Yeah, all right,
• 13:31
  Speaker 2: who's up?
• 13:32
Speaker 1: What's next? All right?
• 13:33
Speaker 2: I got two stories. These are both not submitted to us.
• 13:38
Speaker 2: There's like on reddit. So I got two of them.
• 13:40
Speaker 2: So here's the first one. Our fire department brought on
• 13:43
Speaker 2: a new hire. Here's a young guy who just great
• 13:45
Speaker 2: graduated from fire school, which I guess I don't know
• 13:48
Speaker 2: if I knew that fire school is a thing. And
• 13:50
Speaker 2: the night before it is fire school.
• 13:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know, you have to take your class.
• 13:55
Speaker 2: I don't know what it's called fire school.
• 13:56
Speaker 1: Fire school. She knows that because she lives in a
• 13:58
  Speaker 1: small town.
• 14:00
Speaker 3: To your fire school.
• 14:01
Speaker 2: Maybe I've just never heard of being called fire school.
• 14:04
Speaker 2: Right from a small town.
• 14:06
Speaker 1: You have a volunteer fire department.
• 14:09
Speaker 2: They went to fire school.
• 14:11
Speaker 1: I mean they go to fire school.
• 14:13
Speaker 3: So there's a fire school. It's not specifically called higher school,
• 14:18
Speaker 3: like you know, you.
• 14:19
Speaker 2: Have to who do you.
• 14:22
Speaker 1: Know somebody because you know this information from high school? Yeah,
• 14:25
Speaker 1: winch Yeah, do you know what it's called, like officially.
• 14:28
Speaker 7: Not officially school? Would imagine it's not just fire schools.
• 14:34
Speaker 7: It's not like it's police school. Fire school could be
• 14:36
  Speaker 7: how to start a fire. I think that's that's the
• 14:38
  Speaker 7: ideal school.
• 14:39
Speaker 2: At the least. That's different. Yeah, because there's like police school,
• 14:42
Speaker 2: but that's what like pleae academy, it's a fire academy.
• 14:44
  Speaker 1: Maybe what academy?
• 14:46
Speaker 2: All right? Anyways, our fire department they ran who hired
• 14:50
Speaker 2: the young guy just graduated from the fire academy. Uh
• 14:53
Speaker 2: And the night before his first official day, the crew
• 14:56
Speaker 2: takes him out to celebrate there's a graduation, is a
• 14:59
Speaker 2: new jo, this whole thing that they're celebrating. So they drink,
• 15:03
Speaker 2: and they drink a lot. On his first official day.
• 15:05
Speaker 2: The next morning, he shows up an hour late and
• 15:08
Speaker 2: he's still drunk. It's not a good way to start. Now,
• 15:11
Speaker 2: you might think that that's the bad part. But that day,
• 15:13
Speaker 2: that specific day, he wasn't just showing up to the
• 15:16
Speaker 2: fire department. He was actually scheduled to work alongside the
• 15:19
Speaker 2: police department that day. So he showed up drunk on
• 15:21
Speaker 2: his first day to his coworking job with the police,
• 15:25
Speaker 2: and he was fired. And also that morning side note,
• 15:28
Speaker 2: he got arrested for a dui in his way to work.
• 15:31
Speaker 2: So in the span of one morning, he lost three Yeah,
• 15:35
Speaker 2: I guess so, yeah, it was all rough. So wait,
• 15:38
Speaker 2: that makes no sense. You don't get arrested on the
• 15:40
Speaker 2: way to get a d ui. Hey, I got my dui.
• 15:43
Speaker 1: They sent me on my way sev.
• 15:44
  Speaker 2: Me to work. I don't know what you're gonna you're
• 15:46
Speaker 2: gonna spin his story. There's a dui in there. I
• 15:50
Speaker 2: don't know what happened. And this maybe in the span
• 15:54
Speaker 2: of one morning he lost the job. He's just been
• 15:56
Speaker 2: hired for and pick up a criminal record. Maybe I
• 15:58
Speaker 2: don't know where to the UI came him in and there.
• 16:01
Speaker 2: I know this, When someone's drunk, you don't set them home. Yeah,
• 16:07
Speaker 2: all right, here's your take it here, take me to
• 16:09
Speaker 2: your car and get out of your way your fire.
• 16:12
Speaker 2: Maybe it was still drunk, but it was like, I'll
• 16:13
Speaker 2: go get coffee for everybody, and that's when we got
• 16:15
  Speaker 2: the DUI.
• 16:15
Speaker 8: I'm kind of baffled of like, how many stories we've
• 16:18
Speaker 8: read of people that show up drunk on their first day? Yep,
• 16:22
  Speaker 8: that's very crazy.
• 16:23
Speaker 2: People are struggling problem. Yes, I know that, especially when.
• 16:29
Speaker 3: You're about it until you read like ten stories, do
• 16:33
  Speaker 3: you just.
• 16:33
Speaker 1: See it over and over again?
• 16:34
Speaker 2: You're like, well, that's like the whole thing with old podcasts,
• 16:37
Speaker 2: like how they be like this many bat our stories.
• 16:39
  Speaker 1: I can't do this. I got I got it, Like
• 16:41
Speaker 1: as horrible as it is, I can I go.
• 16:43
Speaker 2: In like this. Yeah, he's like, no, that's my first day.
• 16:45
Speaker 1: I got I got powered finding buddies take him that
• 16:48
Speaker 1: that's did he go with them to go drinking?
• 16:51
Speaker 3: Is that what it was?
• 16:51
Speaker 1: The guys from the class one.
• 16:52
Speaker 2: That sounded like I think he just maybe said it
• 16:54
Speaker 2: was a graduation. Maybe went home and he's kept on drinking.
• 16:57
Speaker 2: Yeah all night. He's like maybe he.
• 17:00
Speaker 1: You drink. You know, we more than everybody else did I.
• 17:02
Speaker 2: Don't all bad? So I didn't it did not work out?
• 17:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, so all right, what's its?
• 17:07
Speaker 9: Sorry, we're it's called to join the fire It's called
• 17:11
Speaker 9: a fire department, a high school cadet program or junior
• 17:15
Speaker 9: firefighter program for the fire.
• 17:17
Speaker 2: See. This is why we have a producer.
• 17:18
  Speaker 1: Well, I mean I think that's yeah, that's why that's
• 17:20
Speaker 1: one path in. I think Charlotte like for sure has
• 17:23
Speaker 1: a firefighting academy you go to. I know, guys have
• 17:25
Speaker 1: got to the firefighter. Again, it's hard work for to
• 17:26
Speaker 1: become a fire butting farm.
• 17:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, it can't. Bro.
• 17:28
Speaker 1: I can't imagine putting all that work in, Yeah, to
• 17:31
Speaker 1: do that and then blowing it up on the first
• 17:33
Speaker 1: as you can imagine.
• 17:34
Speaker 2: In Virginia, I'm new, grown up, maybe one firefighter, and
• 17:37
Speaker 2: moved to California and like every other guy you meet
• 17:40
Speaker 2: is a firefighter because there's so many wild fires out there.
• 17:42
Speaker 2: So like every every due between the age of another people,
• 17:46
Speaker 2: like almost every other guy is like between twenty and
• 17:48
Speaker 2: thirty five is a firefighter because they just need somebody
• 17:51
Speaker 2: out there. Wow. So in this seasonal too, because it's
• 17:54
Speaker 2: like in the dry season, it's like all blows up. Yeah,
• 17:57
Speaker 2: all right. Second story, we this kid fresh out of
• 18:01
Speaker 2: culinary school and he was all fired up. He's ready
• 18:04
Speaker 2: to go. He walks in on day one. Another day
• 18:07
Speaker 2: one story, he launches into a full assessment of the
• 18:11
Speaker 2: whole operation. He's talking to people. He's preaching at them
• 18:13
Speaker 2: about how their systems are inefficient, their processes are outdated.
• 18:18
Speaker 2: That I think this is another one. I don't know
• 18:20
Speaker 2: because I'm this does sound familiar, and how leadership does
• 18:23
Speaker 2: not understand how the kitchen is supposed to run. I
• 18:24
Speaker 2: think the other one who ran we told that was
• 18:26
Speaker 2: the kitch. It wasn't a kitchen, but it was the same,
• 18:30
Speaker 2: the same bravado. Yeah, he'd apparently seen better set upset
• 18:35
Speaker 2: at places with a lot less going on. So I listened.
• 18:37
Speaker 2: I let it go. It's a new guy, energy whatever.
• 18:40
Speaker 2: Later that afternoon, I catched him vaping in the prep area,
• 18:43
Speaker 2: which is not allowed. I pull him aside. I told
• 18:45
Speaker 2: him that's not going to work here. He says, okay, sorry,
• 18:48
Speaker 2: that's just on day one he's like, hey, listen, in
• 18:50
Speaker 2: top nunch organizations, I was allowed to va vape in there.
• 18:54
Speaker 2: I guess into the match potatoes. On day two, he
• 18:57
Speaker 2: comes in. He finds me and he says, hey, can
• 18:59
Speaker 2: I step out for about thirty minutes? I say for what?
• 19:02
Speaker 2: And he says, and these are his exact words as
• 19:05
Speaker 2: told to me. There's no way this is real. He says,
• 19:08
Speaker 2: I need to go make a drug deal.
• 19:14
Speaker 10: So you know, we did have the one story where
• 19:16
Speaker 10: the guys admitted to selling drugs to get people's skills.
• 19:22
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, that was my negotiators in story selling them
• 19:25
Speaker 10: for I was selling them for a friend, and it
• 19:28
Speaker 10: helped me because it built people's skills.
• 19:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, build my confidence. Yeah, so I got good at it. Actually,
• 19:32
Speaker 2: would you like some softer After he says I need
• 19:35
Speaker 2: to go make a drug deal, I just looked at him.
• 19:37
Speaker 2: It's one of those moments where like that, I just
• 19:38
Speaker 2: hear that. I guess he said, yeah, I just need
• 19:40
Speaker 2: to run out real quick. He'll just take a few minutes,
• 19:42
Speaker 2: like he was about to go grab lunch, like it
• 19:44
Speaker 2: was totally normal thing. And so he did not return
• 19:46
Speaker 2: from that drug deal. I just told him to never
• 19:47
Speaker 2: come come back pretty much.
• 19:49
Speaker 3: I don't know if I believe that one.
• 19:50
Speaker 2: I don't know. It started off kind of believable.
• 19:54
Speaker 3: It did be read like that before, but I don't know. Yeah,
• 19:58
Speaker 3: I mean the first half vegetables first half.
• 20:02
Speaker 2: But then we got a million and I was like, nah,
• 20:04
Speaker 2: let we step out for this drug dealer. Real fast
• 20:05
  Speaker 2: is okay.
• 20:07
Speaker 1: I have no doubt that the bravado of somebody trying
• 20:10
Speaker 1: to be you know, yes, and you know, maybe he
• 20:13
Speaker 1: thought that was their strying to album.
• 20:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they got I gotta run this thing.
• 20:19
Speaker 1: I gotta run do this thing.
• 20:20
Speaker 2: It got a real bad, real fast. So it was
• 20:23
Speaker 2: on Reddit, so it had to be real, so right right,
• 20:30
Speaker 2: all right, Emma, oh you got a story saved the
• 20:34
Speaker 2: day here, please save please please something Episode thirty one.
• 20:38
Speaker 2: I'm with a good story from going down in flame
• 20:41
Speaker 2: and on a clip.
• 20:42
Speaker 11: But first I read this story, I was going real
• 20:44
Speaker 11: last time, and I was like, we'll just push it, okay.
• 20:47
Speaker 11: I managed quality control at a company that supplause merchandise
• 20:50
Speaker 11: to big box retailers, Walmart, Target, that kind of thing.
• 20:54
Speaker 11: This job felt high stake sometimes because if you messed
• 20:56
Speaker 11: up an inspection, it becomes a very expensive problem. Very fast,
• 21:00
Speaker 11: we bring on a new hire. On the first day,
• 21:02
Speaker 11: he comes in, does orientation, sits in the morning training
• 21:05
Speaker 11: session with a few other people in the room, and
• 21:08
Speaker 11: then during your break he starts making conversation. At first,
• 21:11
Speaker 11: it's just small talk getting comfortable, and then he starts
• 21:14
Speaker 11: telling everyone about his last job. He goes, yeah, honestly,
• 21:18
Speaker 11: the last place, the last place I worked, I used
• 21:20
Speaker 11: to just help myself with stuff, take things home. They
• 21:24
Speaker 11: never really noticed whatever that would be bod He laughed
• 21:29
Speaker 11: like it was a.
• 21:29
Speaker 8: Fun little story, and then he says, I mean they
• 21:33
Speaker 8: paid better than you guys do so like that was
• 21:39
Speaker 8: the punchline that he was making a joke about the
• 21:41
Speaker 8: salary and this stealing was just like the setup or whatever.
• 21:45
Speaker 3: Wait, well they paid better than you, so I just,
• 21:47
Speaker 3: you know, took everything home. Whatever. Nobody laughed. Yeah, no,
• 21:51
  Speaker 3: one's laughing.
• 21:53
Speaker 2: In case you were wondering, you think it was the
• 21:55
Speaker 2: opposite where if they paid worse, he'd be like, oh,
• 21:57
Speaker 2: they don't pay very well.
• 21:58
Speaker 1: Me let me just take does they paid more, so
• 22:00
Speaker 1: they must have extra money. I ams have a lot.
• 22:02
Speaker 2: Maybe that was the drash.
• 22:03
Speaker 8: Now the trainer looked at him. Then looked at the wall,
• 22:07
Speaker 8: then looked back at him. Then there was a long
• 22:09
Speaker 8: pause and we had some large, very large men.
• 22:13
  Speaker 3: Walk him outs.
• 22:14
Speaker 2: Oh really, the whole.
• 22:16
Speaker 8: Thing from him sitting down to him being escorted off
• 22:18
Speaker 8: the property was approximately thirty.
• 22:20
Speaker 1: Five Okay, so the old tape for the time what
• 22:25
Speaker 1: he got there, the time he got there his first day,
• 22:28
Speaker 1: that was oriented got there. So many people blow it
• 22:30
Speaker 1: up on the first day.
• 22:31
Speaker 2: That's how like all the stories were today, Like every
• 22:34
Speaker 2: single story is easier. That's probably, I mean, it's got
• 22:36
Speaker 2: to be easy to find a bad hire right away.
• 22:38
Speaker 2: It's I mean, there's somebody to break bad ten years
• 22:41
Speaker 2: after their job, just like all of a sudden, there's
• 22:43
Speaker 2: like so much pressure to sell after or whatever. That's right.
• 22:46
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'm gonna get it well, okay, And for
• 22:50
Speaker 3: my last and for my last trick, and I'm just kidding.
• 22:53
Speaker 3: For the last story we're gonna do.
• 22:55
Speaker 2: We're gonna watch a clip story.
• 22:57
Speaker 3: This is Sandra, Yeah, this is Sandra.
• 23:03
Speaker 12: Scene will tell me about a candidate that we were
• 23:06
Speaker 12: trying to hire here at the Boys and Girls Club. Now,
• 23:09
Speaker 12: obviously we work with kids. The majority of our staff
• 23:11
Speaker 12: are kid facing. At one of our sites, and so
• 23:15
Speaker 12: our standards for safety and work we will allow in
• 23:18
Speaker 12: the background checks is a lot more astrangents and this
• 23:22
Speaker 12: person had a lot of bad things pop up on
• 23:26
Speaker 12: their background check, and so we obviously word them adverseler
• 23:30
Speaker 12: that we can proceed. Why mostly go either you know,
• 23:34
Speaker 12: fighter because they feel it's an error, or they're working
• 23:37
Speaker 12: to clear it off, or they just go radio sound
• 23:40
Speaker 12: like because they agree and they know that I probably
• 23:42
Speaker 12: shouldn't be working with kids if I have said felaties misdemeanors,
• 23:45
Speaker 12: where it is this candidate had both felonies and misdemeanors,
• 23:50
Speaker 12: including things like domestic barry, you know, involving children, which woodlines.
• 23:54
Speaker 12: This is a hard pass.
• 23:57
Speaker 3: There's no way. And she actually called us to ask why.
• 24:01
Speaker 12: We couldn't focus on her personality and hire her anyway.
• 24:06
Speaker 6: And when my teen told me this, I just had
• 24:08
Speaker 6: to like pause for a moment, And I'm like, on
• 24:12
Speaker 6: the one hand, I commend her courage to fight for
• 24:16
Speaker 6: what she believes is the right thing to do, But
• 24:19
Speaker 6: like I said before, there's no way we can bring
• 24:22
Speaker 6: this person into work around markets.
• 24:24
Speaker 3: Well, I thank goodness for background checks because, like imagine
• 24:29
Speaker 3: if they hadn't done one. Yeah, you know, and I
• 24:33
Speaker 3: don't know. It's crazy to have a record.
• 24:35
Speaker 1: Like that and think you'll be able to wounciations and
• 24:38
Speaker 1: be checks and you see the stuff and you see
• 24:42
Speaker 1: the role, right yeah, and you realize who's getting screened
• 24:47
Speaker 1: it and you think about, gosh, this is what happens
• 24:50
Speaker 1: when they know there's a background check. What would happen
• 24:54
Speaker 1: if they knew there wasn't one?
• 24:56
Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I mean that's crazy. You can get to
• 25:00
  Speaker 2: what you like.
• 25:00
Speaker 1: You're like, what why would they think this would be
• 25:02
Speaker 1: the right role? You know, there's a role for everyone, man,
• 25:05
Speaker 1: there just is a role. I really believe that in
• 25:06
Speaker 1: my heart, there's a role for everyone, no matter what
• 25:10
Speaker 1: your background is. You know the context of who you
• 25:13
Speaker 1: are and your story can you can find you somewhere
• 25:16
Speaker 1: and allowed you and allowed you to go. It's up
• 25:19
Speaker 1: to you what you what you do with it when
• 25:21
Speaker 1: you get it right. Yeah, but there are some places
• 25:25
Speaker 1: you just can't be right and you just you know,
• 25:28
Speaker 1: you've I don't know, and so but when you when
• 25:32
Speaker 1: you're behind the scenes and you know, I've sat with
• 25:37
Speaker 1: employees who've, for example, did sex offender screening every day.
• 25:43
Speaker 1: You know, and when you look at five hundred sex
• 25:45
Speaker 1: offender screens a day and the stuff that comes across
• 25:49
Speaker 1: and you're verifying if this person is that person, you know,
• 25:53
  Speaker 1: it's it's a dark, dark, dark place, man. Yeah, it's
• 25:57
Speaker 1: a dark place. It's you had to be careful the
• 25:58
Speaker 1: meddal health of the people who do that in this
• 26:00
  Speaker 1: in this office.
• 26:01
Speaker 2: You know, it was like, yeah, I have a question.
• 26:03
Speaker 2: I guess I haven't thought about it, but like, okay,
• 26:05
Speaker 2: on the back end of operations and stuff with somebody
• 26:08
Speaker 2: on any team or even even let's say if somebody
• 26:11
Speaker 2: was ever doing a background check by hand and somebody
• 26:14
Speaker 2: the background check they're doing of person ABC wherever they're
• 26:17
Speaker 2: at is, uh, they're going through their background check. Can
• 26:21
Speaker 2: they see what job that that person's trying to apply to? Like,
• 26:24
Speaker 2: can they see John Smith's trying to apply to be
• 26:26
  Speaker 2: a teacher?
• 26:26
  Speaker 3: Yeah?
• 26:27
Speaker 1: Right, well they can a lot of times they can see.
• 26:30
Speaker 1: It depends, yeah, on the system. And I'll speak for
• 26:33
Speaker 1: all of the industry, right, I think it in some
• 26:38
Speaker 1: instances you don't do that and some you do. And
• 26:42
Speaker 1: I think different companies handle it different ways. Yeah, you know,
• 26:44
Speaker 1: we can see certain types of like request types and
• 26:47
Speaker 1: certain things that tell us what things are.
• 26:49
Speaker 2: Because that's extually while about this story is this person
• 26:52
Speaker 2: was with the context of the job they're applying to
• 26:55
Speaker 2: work around kids, and then they have like stuff like
• 26:57
Speaker 2: bad stuff with with kids in their background check. It's
• 26:59
Speaker 2: like parstretout. Is it intense? You know, because I wonder
• 27:02
Speaker 2: how often that happens. But like you said, that's why
• 27:05
  Speaker 2: I think sometimes.
• 27:07
Speaker 1: When you know there are there are things in that
• 27:11
Speaker 1: you know, the edge cases in the background screening, right
• 27:13
Speaker 1: and and in our shop, so much has done electronically,
• 27:18
Speaker 1: you know, to kind of put barriers around quality and
• 27:20
Speaker 1: ensure everything's done in a really high quality thing. But
• 27:23
Speaker 1: there are edge cases where you got to you got
• 27:25
Speaker 1: to get somebody there to take a look at it.
• 27:27
Speaker 1: And I think there's probably times when they think about
• 27:32
Speaker 1: the customer and go, you know, this is for this case,
• 27:39
Speaker 1: I'm I'm going to err on the side of caution here,
• 27:42
Speaker 1: not in the caution of what we get sued, but
• 27:44
Speaker 1: in the caution of safety, you know, And a lot
• 27:48
Speaker 1: of times I think, you know, team members will make
• 27:50
Speaker 1: that type of call, but you know, in our organization
• 27:55
Speaker 1: happens kind of you know, it's kind of rare because
• 27:57
Speaker 1: of the amount of automation that's occurring where we've just
• 27:59
Speaker 1: kind of I've built those decisions. Yeah, but that's those
• 28:03
Speaker 1: get super for home along.
• 28:04
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I like good stories too, like not just
• 28:07
