- Greg: Good morning. What's up, friends? It is Thursday, June 4th, 2026. I'm your host, Greg Miller, and this is Beliefs, Ballots, and Bulldogs. Man, June 4th. It is ⁓ the we're almost halfway through the year, and it is absolutely just seems to be flying by. I think ⁓ apparently I have just hit that stage in life where just chunks of time seem to be disappearing. I've got one daughter graduating high school, one daughter entering high school, and ⁓ my wife's all over the place traveling for work and being an Uber success. So I'm I am my head is spinning with all this. But the ⁓ the the message of the day is is a good one. It it's it's be intentional. It's not not work harder, not fight harder, not be tougher. It's being intentional. In in other words, it's it's stop living by default. ⁓ so many of us are we're we're just kind of going through the motions and and you know, even some of your your hard stories are catastrophic, you know, terrible life life events. You know, these things aren't happen usually from one catastrophic decision. Most people ruin their lives just because over time they they drift. They they drift in their faith. They drift in their marriage. They they drift as as parents and their connection with their kids. ⁓ they they drift and get a little careless with finances. You take friendships for granted. Over time you just kind of you you let things slip and You know, nobody wakes up one morning and decides, hey, today I'm gonna neglect my family. No, I mean it it it happens slowly. It's it's you know, one distracted day can become a an an an entire month or or even a season. And then, you know, one missed conversation just creates emotional distance. And, you know, we get to our prayer life and and and one missed prayer can can become a a season of of spiritual distance and and you know getting out of the habit of speaking with God can can completely throw everything off kilter. The the word of the day comes from the book of Deuteronomy and and I'll admit I'm a as as a Bible guy, I'm a New Testament fan. I I like the words of Jesus. I like the New Testament. It it seems to be easier to digest, easier to make sense of. But I I I appreciate it when the devotionals come from the Old Testament. I I appreciate it because it it It's a challenge to me, and it forces me to dig into the portions of scripture that I don't naturally gravitate to and don't spend as much time. Deuteronomy chapter thirty, verse nineteen tells us: This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursings. Now choose life so that you and your children may live. Two words in that that entire scripture that matter. Choose life. God is God is forcing a decision. He's saying, I'm laying it all out here before you. He he gave us free will because free will is a necessary ingredient to experience true love. God is forcing a decision here. He's not saying let life happen to you. Choose. We we live in a culture where, and again, it's it's it's it's from a good place. It's because we are so incredibly blessed. But we live in a culture where it's just easy to go on on autopilot and and people just consume whatever shows up in front of them on their timeline or on their Netflix login. People react to almost everything these days instead of really getting ahead of things and planning. I mean, people sit there and and instead of sitting quiet and and thinking about real life things, we just pick up our phones and scroll. ⁓ we we drift ⁓ instead of decide. We we just of allow things to happen and and we just constantly make small adjustments along the way instead of instead of taking control. It's it's it's ironic. Most people have really big plans and goals for their life, but then they have no plan for today. They they don't have anything to do today that will lead to the plans that they have for their life. You know, all of us as as parents, we want We want great relationships with our kids. You know, we we want to find that balance between being being the parental guiding figure they need to to impart wisdom and direction and and and conviction. ⁓ but we also wanna be friends. We we wanna get along, we wanna enjoy our time, we want a close relationship, we wanna raise respectful children. We we all wanna have strong marriages. None of those things are gonna happen accidentally. You're not just gonna drift into those things. They're they're all built intentionally. Everything you say you want tomorrow is built by the choices you make today. ⁓ and that's simple. We all know it, it's common sense, but but we fail to apply it rarely. A a lot of what's happening in in our culture, as we've talked about, is not the it's not the result of one large catastrophic decision. It's it's the accumulation of thousands of little decisions day after day. It's what we have ⁓ as a society have have, you know, become so tolerant of. that that it's just absolutely insane. And and we've gone from tolerating things to celebrating things. And, you know, we had a message a week ago. You know, pay attention to what society celebrates because that'll tell you a lot about about what they value. And, you know, what a society celebrates and what a society values is what that society is going to produce more of. It it's common sense. It's how the world works. You know, our our faith doesn't disappear in in one dramatic moment. Very few people wander away from God because of a singular event or or a moment where they just say, Hey, I'm done believing in God. I'm done with my relationship with God. It happens over time. People people drift, and that's why, you know, I'm constantly reminding people. Every day I close this show. Get in your Bible, say your prayers. That daily consistent connection with God will keep you from drifting and keep you from dealing with any of this. And it'll make it easier to to follow this particular scripture and to choose life. It it's that is why. It's precisely why the scripture calls us to be intentional, to be deliberate, to be purposeful, to to just be awake, to see what's going on and to make proper decisions. You're not gonna drift towards a better marriage. You're not gonna drift towards a stronger faith. Certainly not gonna drift towards being wiser and and more discerning. Those things are gonna happen with a purpose. And and some of the bigger things that will happen down the road in your life. are being affected by things you're treating as very small decisions today. There are no small decisions. Every decision has an impact. And, you know, so much of what we see as a as a problem in our society now is people have continuously and habitually made bad decisions, but they don't want to deal with the consequences of those bad decisions. And that's just not reality. God is telling us to be intentional to choose life. And those choices you make absolutely matter. On a lighter note, guys, we got 93 days until Georgia football. And for some of that's that's a that's a really big deal. Some of us look forward to to the opening of college football season the way kids look forward to Christmas morning. There is there is no 93 on this year's roster for me to get excited about and to and to talk about what I envision them doing this year. But we've had a few in the past. We we've had some memorable names in ninety-three, but none, none bigger l literally or figuratively than than a big defensive tackle, Richard Seymour. ⁓ Just affable guy. Richard was around campus about some of the same times I was. Big, huge guy. Absolutely would fill a doorway when he walked through. There was no light passing through a doorway when Richard Seymour walked through. But always had a smile on his face. He he starred for the dogs for years. Him and Marcus Stroud plugged the the middle of the defensive line in the in the Donning days. And and Richard went on to have a have a stellar NFL career, winning several Super Bowl rings, I believe, with the with the Patriots. Absolutely, without a doubt. Richard C. Moore, number 93, one of the ⁓ one of the greatest to ever wear the G. Just no argument, no debate about it. Richard Cmour days until football. Go dogs. Back to the ⁓ back to the message of the day, guys. And it's a simple one. It's it's it's to choose life and don't drift. Be be intentional with your faith. Be intentional with your family. Be intentional with your words, and be intentional with your life. The The future you are hoping and praying and wishing for is being built by the choices you're making right now. That's it, guys. You know the deal. Get in your Bible, say your prayers, love one another, and tell the truth. God bless.
