- 0:18Speaker 3: What's your plan B if you aren't confident enough in
- 0:21Speaker 3: Drake May to give him the contract?
- 0:22Speaker 4: Plan B scares the crap out of me.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Especially with A.J. Brown and Drake May both in a
- 0:26Speaker 2: bit of a slump.
- 0:27Speaker 5: A.J.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Brown's in more than a slump. He's in a boot.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Stay flexible.
- 0:29Speaker 3: I'm always flexible, you know that.
- 0:31Speaker 6: Well, in that new jumpsuit you got, you're going to
- 0:32Speaker 6: be extra flexible.
- 0:33Speaker 3: In my new sweatsuit.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I will.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Again, I was thinking it, but sometimes, believe it or not,
- 0:38Speaker 4: sometimes I don't express every thought that comes into my head.
- 0:41Speaker 3: What's the guy with the nose that you always refer to,
- 0:44Speaker 3: the bookies and stuff like that?
- 0:45Speaker 4: Joey the Nose?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:47Speaker 4: That's not really a person.
- 0:48Speaker 2: His agent's one of the most high-powered agents out there.
- 0:51Speaker 7: Yeah, but he controls the agent.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Well.
- 0:54Speaker 3: That's the job is to have a strong opinion.
- 0:55Speaker 2: But your opinion is you can't do it. Of course
- 0:58Speaker 2: you can.
- 0:59Speaker 3: You can do whatever you want.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I just disagree with you. I just look down on
- 1:03Speaker 3: you a little bit.
- 1:06Speaker 2: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals, buyatoyota.com.
- 1:15Speaker 8: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:19Speaker 8: at Gillette Stadium. The gang's all here. Evan, Paul, me, Deuce, Alex,
- 1:23Speaker 8: and Matt in the booth.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Evan, you okay?
- 1:27Speaker 3: I'm going to survive.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I just live in this constant state of this, so
- 1:31Speaker 3: it's fine.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I was in the back room, and during Catch-22, Evan
- 1:35Speaker 2: just flew by.
- 1:36Speaker 9: He's like, I got to go.
- 1:37Speaker 6: I think it's the stress of only having an hour
- 1:39Speaker 6: to get their game preview.
- 1:41Speaker 2: And he's just like, I can't do it.
- 1:41Speaker 10: I manage this situation 24-7, 365.
- 1:42Speaker 2: What causes your flare-ups? Jersey Mike's and more like real food?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Maybe being less Jewish would help.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Less Jewish.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Okay. This is a genetic thing. This ain't nothing to
- 2:03Speaker 3: do with what I'm eating.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:06Speaker 9: You don't think so?
- 2:07Speaker 6: No.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:09Speaker 8: No.
- 2:09Speaker 3: But everybody in my family has stomach issues of some kind.
- 2:12Speaker 4: You all eat the same thing?
- 2:14Speaker 3: My sister's allergic to a bunch of stuff. I'm allergic
- 2:16Speaker 3: to stuff.
- 2:17Speaker 2: It's just... Too much challah bread?
- 2:19Speaker 3: I don't know what it is.
- 2:20Speaker 9: You got to do an elimination diet.
- 2:23Speaker 3: That's how I got off the dairy, was doing an
- 2:25Speaker 3: elimination diet. Trust me, I've done it all.
- 2:29Speaker 2: All right. We just want to make sure you're okay there.
- 2:31Speaker 2: He's all right. And that you don't get us sick.
- 2:33Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 2:33Speaker 4: No, this is not.
- 2:34Speaker 2: That's all I was worried about.
- 2:35Speaker 4: This is not a stomach bug.
- 2:37Speaker 2: This is not viral.
- 2:38Speaker 10: Yeah, no.
- 2:39Speaker 2: This is something that happens.
- 2:40Speaker 10: You.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Can't catch lactose intolerance. We're all good.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:44Speaker 10: All right.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So it is Thursday.
- 2:46Speaker 8: And of course, later on in the show, last segment,
- 2:50Speaker 8: we'll be doing our picks.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Any previews, Paul? Any like.
- 2:53Speaker 4: You know, Fred.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Oh, wow. That means Paul had a good week.
- 2:56Speaker 6: I hate when he says that.
- 2:57Speaker 9: How did you have a good week this week? It
- 2:59Speaker 9: was chaotic.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Paul's on a roll.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Some guys have a feel.
- 3:02Speaker 9: I guess so.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I guess so.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Freddie feels.
- 3:05Speaker 8: All right.
- 3:07Speaker 2: So we'll be doing that later.
- 3:09Speaker 8: But in the meantime, we're talking about the Jaguars game
- 3:13Speaker 8: coming up on Sunday.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Weather's going to be good down there.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I actually have a feel, too.
- 3:18Speaker 8: Really?
- 3:19Speaker 4: You and Mike.
- 3:20Speaker 9: Pauly Pulse, Freddie Fields.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Good job.
- 3:23Speaker 2: So the weather looking good for Jacksonville, at least. Not
- 3:27Speaker 2: too hot, I hope.
- 3:28Speaker 9: Actually, I'm nor'easter.
- 3:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not up here. All the players are actually, like,
- 3:33Speaker 6: Looking forward to it. Matt Collins was like, no, I
- 3:35Speaker 6: love it. Like, I can't wait to get down there.
- 3:37Speaker 6: Hunter Henry said, I think a lot of our guys
- 3:39Speaker 6: are Southern guys and they like that.
- 3:41Speaker 2: That atmosphere.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I don't think it's going to be like what happened
- 3:43Speaker 4: in Nashville, as an example. Did you see some of
- 3:46Speaker 4: the stuff about that?
- 3:46Speaker 9: The cleats were melting.
- 3:47Speaker 4: That Titans-Eagles game was like 145, 150 degrees Fahrenheit on
- 3:52Speaker 4: the field.
- 3:52Speaker 2: No way. The real field.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Cleats were melting. Well, the sun.
- 3:56Speaker 11: Beating on the turf, you're saying. Not like the.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Actual temperature in the atmosphere. The temperature wasn't bad.
- 4:01Speaker 9: Wow, I believe it.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Like the field temperature was actually melting the cleats.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It's like playing on Venus.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I think a couple of schools in college actually did
- 4:09Speaker 3: cancel games. because of the heat recently so it's been
- 4:13Speaker 3: i think it's been pretty hot down there but i
- 4:15Speaker 3: i remember the the one in 2018 uh we looked
- 4:18Speaker 3: it up and it said the game time temperature was
- 4:21Speaker 3: 97 and it felt even hotter because of the humidity
- 4:23Speaker 3: like it can get hot down there but uh last
- 4:26Speaker 3: year In Miami, someone asked Drake May about something after
- 4:32Speaker 3: the game, and he said that he grew up in
- 4:34Speaker 3: this kind of weather. Growing up in North Carolina, that's
- 4:38Speaker 3: his kind of weather, hot, humid type of weather. So
- 4:42Speaker 3: maybe it would be good for them. Maybe he'd feel
- 4:45Speaker 3: himself a little bit.
- 4:46Speaker 8: All right, so yesterday after our show, they had practice,
- 4:50Speaker 8: and they had a participation report.
- 4:53Speaker 2: How are we feeling about that?
- 4:55Speaker 3: The laundry list.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Paul printed it out. I did.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I did.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Now I'm going to need my readers to help.
- 5:00Speaker 9: Kept it on one page somehow.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Ramp's got to put his readers on.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Grandpa's got to put his readers on.
- 5:06Speaker 2: As I said that, I was just envisioning Andy Hart.
- 5:08Speaker 9: Go ahead.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Can you read it? Can I read it? Yeah, sure.
- 5:12Speaker 2: What do you want me to read?
- 5:12Speaker 4: Because you don't have your readers on.
- 5:14Speaker 2: No, I can read that. That's fine.
- 5:16Speaker 9: He didn't try, but he would take his word for it.
- 5:19Speaker 4: The two big ones. Shut up.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Of course, of course.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Says here, who's that? Says here, my arm's not quite
- 5:27Speaker 4: long enough. Draymond Jones and Craig Woodson were the two
- 5:30Speaker 4: that stood out to me. Both of those guys listed
- 5:33Speaker 4: with shoulder injuries, did not participate in practice. So I
- 5:37Speaker 4: don't think that's a great sign on Wednesday. We'll see
- 5:39Speaker 4: how the week unfolds. Q Hutchins also did not participate
- 5:43Speaker 4: in knee injury. He got some snaps late in the game.
- 5:46Speaker 4: He obviously is a special teamer. And the other one
- 5:49Speaker 4: who did not participate, which was kind of different, not injury-related, personal,
- 5:54Speaker 4: Daquan Jones. I wonder what's going on there. Veteran defensive tackle,
- 5:59Speaker 4: got some snaps last week. He played 15, 20 snaps,
- 6:02Speaker 4: I'd say, in that game the other day, but he
- 6:04Speaker 4: didn't practice. The good news, Carlton Davis was a full participant.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Full participant, yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 4: So he looks like he's on track to play. And
- 6:12Speaker 4: then Eli Raritan was also listed as limited offensively. He
- 6:18Speaker 4: talked a little bit in the locker room. I did
- 6:20Speaker 4: see him with a rap on that injured thigh, but
- 6:25Speaker 4: I think he looks like he's at least going to
- 6:26Speaker 4: give it a shot. So I think that would be,
- 6:29Speaker 4: for all the reasons Evan talked about yesterday during the show,
- 6:31Speaker 4: that would be a good boost to the offense, give
- 6:33Speaker 4: him a little bit more versatility. So that's the big takeaway.
- 6:37Speaker 4: I guess the other noteworthy thing, Brendan Schooler practiced. He's
- 6:40Speaker 4: not eligible to come off NFI yet. but he's ripping
- 6:45Speaker 4: up the process, so he's starting to practice.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I think after the Bills game, he'll be eligible.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Four games, yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Anybody notable for the Jaguars?
- 6:55Speaker 4: So, Jaguars, a little bit. Everybody practiced. Nobody missed practice altogether.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Let's see. Notable guys. Robert Hainsey is one of their
- 7:04Speaker 4: starting offensive linemen, I believe. Center, yeah. Yeah, he's got
- 7:07Speaker 4: an elbow and a groin issue, so he's running the gamut.
- 7:11Speaker 4: But he was limited. Let's see. Devon Hamilton's one of
- 7:16Speaker 4: their rotational guys in the interior defensive line. And Jacoby Myers.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Thumb injury. They were all limited.
- 7:22Speaker 8: Okay.
- 7:22Speaker 2: All right.
- 7:25Speaker 4: I think the rest of these guys are backups.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence will play.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Not intimately knowledgeable. Trevor Lawrence is not on here.
- 7:34Speaker 3: I think Trevor Lawrence is going to make it to
- 7:35Speaker 3: the game.
- 7:36Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 4: To the game. They are playing the Patriots, so he'll
- 7:39Speaker 4: probably leave shortly thereafter.
- 7:41Speaker 2: All right.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Um, I think that, you know, we were talking on
- 7:45Speaker 3: catch 22 when I was able to talk, uh, about, uh,
- 7:48Speaker 3: you know, the safety depth in particular, because they basically
- 7:52Speaker 3: haven't played anything besides nickel to start the season. They've
- 7:55Speaker 3: played 10 snaps of base defense. And they've been in
- 7:58Speaker 3: nickel and every other play of the season so far,
- 8:00Speaker 3: but they've played a lot of three safety nickel with
- 8:04Speaker 3: Dell Pettis being the third. And then Jalen Reed being
- 8:06Speaker 3: the third when Pettis got hurt. So do they have
- 8:09Speaker 3: the ability to get to three safety nickel because the
- 8:12Speaker 3: Jaguars are going to put two tight ends on the
- 8:14Speaker 3: field and they're going to try to run the ball.
- 8:15Speaker 3: against you so you know what do they do to
- 8:18Speaker 3: combat that if they don't have woodson they know we
- 8:21Speaker 3: know they're not going to have pettis so is jalen
- 8:24Speaker 3: reed and mike brown like do you want to put
- 8:26Speaker 3: the both those guys on the field now you're calling
- 8:29Speaker 3: up somebody from the practice squad to play a pretty
- 8:31Speaker 3: big role in the defense so uh it's kind of
- 8:33Speaker 3: that one i feel like has like a trickle down effect.
- 8:36Speaker 8: They signed a linebacker yesterday right yeah holy cross guy
- 8:39Speaker 8: who's Oh.
- 8:40Speaker 3: To the practice squad.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Jose Ramirez is an edge rusher.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yeah, he's an outside guy.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Oh, okay. So he's not somebody that could play against
- 8:48Speaker 2: the run?
- 8:49Speaker 3: No, he profiles a lot like Hugh Hutchins.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I was going to say he's that replacement.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Yeah, like speed rusher, special teamer, that sort of thing. So,
- 8:58Speaker 3: you know, obviously the other ones are kind of like,
- 9:01Speaker 3: all right, this guy's hurt. You know, on when he
- 9:03Speaker 3: was hurt, Greg Van Rooten's going to play. The safety thing,
- 9:05Speaker 3: I think, has kind of like a domino effect on
- 9:08Speaker 3: how they want to match certain personnel groupings and kind
- 9:11Speaker 3: of how they want to play defense.
- 9:12Speaker 6: Yeah, it's interesting on early downs with that because I
- 9:15Speaker 6: thought Charles Wood played pretty good last week. So, you know,
- 9:17Speaker 6: maybe that gives you some With Davis coming back, some
- 9:19Speaker 6: confidence that third and long, you can put four corners
- 9:22Speaker 6: on the field instead of having that three safety. But
- 9:24Speaker 6: early down, stopping the run, Charles Woods, Marcus Jones, that's not.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Going to give you exactly what you what you want
- 9:31Speaker 2: against those two tight ends.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah no and that that's their bread and butter is
- 9:35Speaker 3: you know we're going to put heavy people on the
- 9:36Speaker 3: field we're going to be under center we're going to
- 9:39Speaker 3: run the ball with base shell tootin like that's what
- 9:41Speaker 3: they want to do and i just wonder how the
- 9:43Speaker 3: patriots combat that you know do they go do they
- 9:47Speaker 3: have a third linebacker they're confident in playing base do
- 9:50Speaker 3: they have a third safety they're confident and if jalen
- 9:53Speaker 3: reed is starting you know for craig woodson question for.
- 9:56Speaker 6: You i remember Bore Kirchardt go way before we all
- 9:59Speaker 6: kind of thought he was.
- 10:00Speaker 2: He was in that tight end.
- 10:01Speaker 3: He was a top 100 pick.
- 10:02Speaker 4: I really liked him.
- 10:03Speaker 3: He was definitely more blocker. Brenton Strange is kind of
- 10:07Speaker 3: the pass catcher of the two of them, but they
- 10:09Speaker 3: both can block a little bit. Strange can line up everywhere.
- 10:12Speaker 3: He can line up in the backfield as a fullback.
- 10:14Speaker 3: He can line up in line, flexed out, whatever. And
- 10:17Speaker 3: then Bore Kicker is a really good in-line blocker for
- 10:20Speaker 3: a rookie. Most of the time out of college, those
- 10:23Speaker 3: tight ends are a little iffy as blockers. but they're
- 10:27Speaker 3: doing the Rams thing. They want to have two, three
- 10:31Speaker 3: tight ends that they can play. They've played some three
- 10:33Speaker 3: tight end as well, and that's what they want to do.
- 10:36Speaker 3: So it's kind of weird. We were talking about Brian
- 10:38Speaker 3: Thomas Jr.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yesterday.
- 10:40Speaker 3: They have these three receivers, and they kind of don't
- 10:42Speaker 3: play them. It's really a lot of two-receiver sets.
- 10:46Speaker 8: All right, and we'll get more into that matchup. Yesterday, also,
- 10:51Speaker 8: Vrabel talk.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Anything... we can glean out of what he had to
- 10:55Speaker 2: say yesterday.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Other than the injury guys like Pettis going to IR
- 11:00Speaker 3: and them signing Jose Ramirez, it's kind of a quiet
- 11:04Speaker 3: press conference.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it wasn't dropping bombs like he did on Monday.
- 11:09Speaker 4: I did think it was interesting when Tom Curran asked
- 11:12Speaker 4: him about Trevor Lawrence and he described Trevor Lawrence's game,
- 11:17Speaker 4: I think, in a way that you would hope Drake
- 11:20Speaker 4: May's game. sort of develops, you know, and maybe he
- 11:22Speaker 4: eliminates some of the indecisiveness. He kept using the word
- 11:25Speaker 4: decisive with Trevor Lawrence. And, uh, it was hard not
- 11:29Speaker 4: to think that maybe he was sort of talking about,
- 11:33Speaker 4: you know, this is what our guy can be and
- 11:36Speaker 4: even better.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Um, you know, if he can sort of overcome these
- 11:40Speaker 4: early mistakes, I think one of the things he said
- 11:42Speaker 4: about Trevor Lawrence is you could count on the turnovers,
- 11:45Speaker 4: you know, four years ago. Um, And now he's sort
- 11:49Speaker 4: of eliminated some of that from his game. So that
- 11:53Speaker 4: may be just me. I know Felger and Maz were
- 11:55Speaker 4: talking about that yesterday when I went in with the show.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I'm shocked that they spun that that way.
- 12:02Speaker 4: I don't think it was a spin. I just think
- 12:03Speaker 4: it was kind of an interesting sort of comparison of
- 12:08Speaker 4: a young guy with all the skills in the world
- 12:11Speaker 4: who took a couple years. I think it was an
- 12:13Speaker 4: encouraging thing. Trevor Lawrence is in year six. And You
- 12:18Speaker 4: don't have to say Drake May is not going to
- 12:20Speaker 4: get there. He's only in year three. Like, he will.
- 12:25Speaker 4: I think that what Vrabel was trying to say is, like, yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 4: this is what we're hoping. Like, we eliminate the bad
- 12:32Speaker 4: and accentuate the good. And I even think he could
- 12:35Speaker 4: be better. You know, I think he might have even
- 12:37Speaker 4: more skill than Trevor Lawrence.
- 12:39Speaker 8: When you're checking the boxes of, you know, advantages and
- 12:42Speaker 8: all that stuff, does Vrabel's... Do you think... If Rabel
- 12:47Speaker 8: coaching the Titans gives.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Them any.
- 12:50Speaker 8: Advantage and familiarity with the Jaguars, or is that, you know.
- 12:55Speaker 2: The roster's changed enough where it probably doesn't.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Maybe at Everbank Stadium.
- 12:59Speaker 4: The stadium.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 4: He obviously has experience coaching. Yeah.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Maybe like him in stretch, like knowing the layout.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but certainly Cullen wasn't there when he was with
- 13:08Speaker 2: the Titans.
- 13:09Speaker 5: No.
- 13:09Speaker 4: So that's... A whole different staff.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Like a couple years, two, three years of Trevor Lawrence.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. He faced Trevor Lawrence a handful of times,
- 13:16Speaker 3: but not with the supporting cast that he has now.
- 13:18Speaker 2: So that's probably a wash.
- 13:20Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I would say that having familiarity with the stadium, if
- 13:24Speaker 3: you're looking for margins, like wind directions and the sideline
- 13:29Speaker 3: and where the locker room is and all that kind
- 13:32Speaker 3: of stuff.
- 13:32Speaker 11: They're in kind of a similar position to the Patriots
- 13:35Speaker 11: in terms of just the comeback they've made in a season,
- 13:38Speaker 11: 4-13 season, and then new coach. It's funny to look
- 13:42Speaker 11: at all the parallels there are, right? Quarterback situation, coaching situation.
- 13:47Speaker 2: That's a good point.
- 13:48Speaker 8: They're the same team kind of in that respect. In
- 13:52Speaker 8: terms of wind direction and all that, they're building a
- 13:55Speaker 8: new stadium right next door, so I would imagine that
- 13:57Speaker 8: has changed some of the wind patterns.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Oh, got to go out early and throw the grass
- 14:01Speaker 3: in the air and see where the wind is going.
- 14:03Speaker 2: See what's going on with that. Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 9: It's like kite.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah. I did fly a kite this summer.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Okay. What other topics do we want to bring up
- 14:12Speaker 2: before we.
- 14:13Speaker 6: I thought we heard from Drake yesterday, too, and Evan
- 14:17Speaker 6: went right at him.
- 14:18Speaker 12: Okay, relax.
- 14:19Speaker 2: No, he asked him.
- 14:20Speaker 6: No, we asked him specifically about, you know, the cover
- 14:22Speaker 6: six stuff, and, you know, I can let Evan talk
- 14:24Speaker 6: about that, but always, you know.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Good to hear from Drake. I feel like he's... It was.
- 14:31Speaker 6: Funny in the locker room because everybody went to Mike Hollinson.
- 14:33Speaker 6: We're like, you know, how do you feel about Drake?
- 14:36Speaker 2: And he's like, what, is he sick? Like, what's wrong?
- 14:38Speaker 9: He's like, what's wrong with him? Is he sick?
- 14:41Speaker 6: And Will Campbell had kind of the same response where,
- 14:45Speaker 6: you know, there's kind of these outside narratives about Drake's
- 14:47Speaker 6: struggles through two games and all that, and that's really
- 14:49Speaker 6: the driving force right now. And I think in the
- 14:51Speaker 6: locker room, the players are just kind of trying to
- 14:53Speaker 6: find themselves and find their offense. And they've played two games, and,
- 14:56Speaker 6: you know, there's been good, there's been bad across the board,
- 14:59Speaker 6: Drake included. And I think they're just focused on this week,
- 15:02Speaker 6: trying to get better, and they're not really– weighed down
- 15:04Speaker 6: by this, you know, narrative that obviously that's what we do.
- 15:06Speaker 2: That's, you know, how it goes in this town.
- 15:08Speaker 6: And, you know, what we obviously talk plenty about, but
- 15:10Speaker 6: I think on the inside, they're, they're trying to ignore
- 15:12Speaker 6: that noise and just focus on being better this week.
- 15:15Speaker 10: Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 4: For that reason, that's why I think the start of
- 15:18Speaker 4: this game, you know, maybe a little bit more, I mean,
- 15:21Speaker 4: obviously as Bill used to mock us, Well, I'm always
- 15:25Speaker 4: trying to get off to a fast start, Paul. Yeah, no,
- 15:27Speaker 4: I get it. But I do think given maybe the
- 15:31Speaker 4: tenuous nature of the offense right now, you know, get
- 15:35Speaker 4: off to a good start, get belief right away. And
- 15:37Speaker 4: I think as Rabel said yesterday, Jacksonville has been a
- 15:41Speaker 4: good first half team. They have one of the better
- 15:44Speaker 4: than he had the numbers, of course, that he and
- 15:46Speaker 4: Stretch have of Just that Browns game. Yeah, points differential. Well,
- 15:50Speaker 4: I'm going back.
- 15:51Speaker 10: No, I know.
- 15:52Speaker 4: I'm saying that's obviously not enough to go on, but
- 15:55Speaker 4: they generally have gotten off to good starts, and especially
- 15:58Speaker 4: at home. So I think it'd be good if the
- 16:02Speaker 4: Patriots offense, you know, I'm not saying they have to
- 16:04Speaker 4: go out and put, you know, 30 points on the
- 16:06Speaker 4: board in the first half or anything, but have some
- 16:07Speaker 4: success offensively.
- 16:08Speaker 8: We talked about it briefly, but their stadium is undergoing
- 16:13Speaker 8: some renovations, right?
- 16:14Speaker 10: Oh.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's limited capacity. I think what Mike
- 16:18Speaker 4: said was like 42,000 or something at the first game.
- 16:21Speaker 2: They didn't get rid of the pool, did they?
- 16:22Speaker 3: It was them that was toxic going to Orlando for
- 16:26Speaker 3: like a period of time. Next year. Yeah, because they're
- 16:29Speaker 3: building the new stadium and when they're in between stadiums.
- 16:31Speaker 8: But I'm just wondering if the renovations this year and
- 16:34Speaker 8: the limited capacity, you know, might. decrease the amount of
- 16:38Speaker 8: noise that the Patriots have to put up with.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:41Speaker 4: So, you know what's funny?
- 16:42Speaker 9: Are they packing that place anyways?
- 16:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going to say, is it a notoriously
- 16:46Speaker 3: loud stadium?
- 16:47Speaker 4: I don't think it is, but I wonder if the
- 16:49Speaker 4: limited capacity might limit the.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I was going to use a different word. The Boston fans.
- 16:56Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 8: Oh.
- 16:57Speaker 4: That generally couldn't get tickets. That generally go to, you know, Miami.
- 17:01Speaker 4: I figured this would be another opportunity. I was expecting
- 17:04Speaker 4: a pretty good contingent of Patriots fans at this game.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Paul's thing, too, feeds into that. You
- 17:09Speaker 2: get a good start.
- 17:10Speaker 4: You don't really let the crowd get into it. Yeah,
- 17:12Speaker 4: temporarily reduced to 42-5 at Burbank Stadium.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Interesting. I don't know.
- 17:16Speaker 4: So that's pretty small.
- 17:17Speaker 9: There's so many New Englanders down there, though.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I mean, they play half their games in London anyway.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Not in Jacksonville, though.
- 17:21Speaker 9: They're everywhere.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I just don't know. All over Florida. I just don't
- 17:24Speaker 3: really think of it like Seattle.
- 17:27Speaker 2: No, no.
- 17:27Speaker 3: It's not Denver.
- 17:28Speaker 4: It's not a loud venue at all.
- 17:30Speaker 2: It's not a destination.
- 17:30Speaker 4: I expected a lot of Patriots fans.
- 17:32Speaker 9: It's really not. It's not Miami.
- 17:35Speaker 2: You're planning a trip. It's not like that.
- 17:36Speaker 4: It's basically Georgia.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah, still.
- 17:38Speaker 9: Unless you're really into, I guess, the Space Coast, but
- 17:40Speaker 9: even that's a hike.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Well, that's further down the coast.
- 17:43Speaker 9: Yeah, it's more towards the point.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Cocoa Beach.
- 17:45Speaker 10: Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 2: I've surfed at Cocoa Beach.
- 17:48Speaker 9: Really?
- 17:48Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Surfing friends.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I would pay to see you surf. My first collegiate
- 17:53Speaker 4: baseball game was in Cocoa Beach.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 17:55Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I hitchhiked from Tampa.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Spring training, 87.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 17:59Speaker 9: With a surfboard?
- 18:00Speaker 2: No, I rented one from Ron John.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Ron John.
- 18:03Speaker 8: Wow.
- 18:03Speaker 10: Okay.
- 18:05Speaker 9: I remember that. Ron John Surf Shop.
- 18:06Speaker 2: That's the other thing, right?
- 18:07Speaker 10: Yep.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Far out, dude.
- 18:08Speaker 11: I think my dad brought me a sticker from there.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Everybody does. That's the first thing that popped into my
- 18:12Speaker 2: head when you said Ron John.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Ron John Surf Shop sticker.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Wearing jams and stuff. The car sticker. Well, I wrote
- 18:17Speaker 2: my thing this morning.
- 18:18Speaker 6: A couple things that just stood out to me that
- 18:20Speaker 6: I didn't really hit on. Just the volume of turnovers
- 18:22Speaker 6: from this Jacksonville defense, which they're second in the league
- 18:25Speaker 6: last year with 31 takeaways. They had three takeaways in
- 18:28Speaker 6: a game four times. They had two takeaways five times,
- 18:31Speaker 6: and once they had four takeaways twice.
- 18:33Speaker 2: In those 10 games, they were 8-2.
- 18:35Speaker 6: So they get a lot of takeaways. They got three
- 18:37Speaker 6: through the first two games. So I think it's a
- 18:39Speaker 6: key point. I mean, it's always a key point. I
- 18:41Speaker 6: hate doing that as the key to the game.
- 18:42Speaker 4: No, but it is.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Because it always should be a key. But, like, this
- 18:45Speaker 2: week specifically, they prey on those kind of turnovers.
- 18:48Speaker 6: And the other thing that I don't think we really
- 18:51Speaker 6: talked about is just the special teams with, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 6: Kim Little hitting 68-yarder.
- 18:55Speaker 2: 67-yarder last year.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Bart's brought it up.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Don't worry. Yeah, 70-yarder in preseason. You know, just a
- 19:00Speaker 2: little bit of an edge there, I would say.
- 19:01Speaker 13: For them.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Missed one in Denver last week. That was a big miss, too.
- 19:06Speaker 6: But if you're clinging to a two-point lead or a
- 19:08Speaker 6: one-point lead, it's pretty, you know, how far are they
- 19:11Speaker 6: going to have to go to get it?
- 19:13Speaker 2: You know, and Parker Washington, too.
- 19:14Speaker 6: He had two two-point return TDs last year.
- 19:16Speaker 2: He had one the year before. He's an explosive guy.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Good player.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Love Marcus Jones for the Patriots special teams, but I
- 19:22Speaker 6: think you have to give them a little bit of
- 19:24Speaker 6: an edge there as far as the kicker. And, you know,
- 19:26Speaker 6: Amir Abdullah has been a really consistent kick returner for
- 19:29Speaker 6: them as well. So Just a spot where the Patriots
- 19:32Speaker 6: have a lot of young, newish players playing. I think
- 19:34Speaker 6: the special teams have been decent outside of the missed
- 19:37Speaker 6: field goal. So, you know, hopefully they're able to pick
- 19:41Speaker 6: up some yardage there. Marcus Jones would be huge as always,
- 19:43Speaker 6: but I think Parker Washington and him, it's a pretty
- 19:45Speaker 6: good battle.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Yeah, the turnovers thing is definitely, I mean, obviously the
- 19:48Speaker 3: Patriots have turned the ball over fine. times through two games.
- 19:51Speaker 3: So they've got to get the turnovers thing under control.
- 19:54Speaker 3: And this Jacksonville team kind of lives off of turnovers defensively.
- 19:58Speaker 3: But I think one of the things about them is
- 20:00Speaker 3: that they can sometimes be overaggressive. you know, looking for
- 20:04Speaker 3: those types of advantages. So you see like their numbers
- 20:07Speaker 3: against like moving pockets, like bootlegs and stuff like that
- 20:10Speaker 3: are bad. There are numbers against quarterback runs are actually
- 20:14Speaker 3: pretty bad too, because those edges just come flying off
- 20:16Speaker 3: the ball and you can bait them into being wrong.
- 20:19Speaker 3: So things like that, that, you know, I think you
- 20:22Speaker 3: can sort of manipulate them a little bit. They play
- 20:25Speaker 3: with a lot of zone. So their eyes are all
- 20:26Speaker 3: in the backfield and there's different things that you can do.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I think to kind of expose that a little bit
- 20:31Speaker 3: that the Broncos did is last week that I look
- 20:35Speaker 3: at it and say, I think the Patriots can kind
- 20:37Speaker 3: of replicate a lot of these things with Drake may
- 20:39Speaker 3: that maybe, you know, that feast or famine turnover thing,
- 20:42Speaker 3: you know, they can actually bait them into some bad
- 20:44Speaker 3: decisions and bad angles, you.
- 20:46Speaker 8: Know, with a team like that, that can be over
- 20:50Speaker 8: aggressive at times. And it's important to see like, you know,
- 20:55Speaker 8: how they're playing on that given day. And that being
- 20:58Speaker 8: the case, I think it's important for the Patriots early
- 21:01Speaker 8: on to extend some drives, to get some offensive plays
- 21:05Speaker 8: under the belt so that McDaniels can see what they're
- 21:08Speaker 8: trying to do on defense. You know, if you're three
- 21:10Speaker 8: and out your first two drives, you don't really have
- 21:13Speaker 8: a good sampling of what their defense is looking like
- 21:16Speaker 8: that day. So I think it's incumbent on Drake to,
- 21:20Speaker 8: you know, like take the profits. Don't, Just try to
- 21:24Speaker 8: move the sticks. Don't worry about going for it all,
- 21:28Speaker 8: especially early on. Get a feel for the game and
- 21:31Speaker 8: a feel for their defense and who's winning which matchup
- 21:36Speaker 8: on the line particularly. So I would think that you
- 21:43Speaker 8: might see the Patriots come out a little bit conservative
- 21:46Speaker 8: early on, just the short stuff, just to try to
- 21:49Speaker 8: get some quick first downs and get some plays under
- 21:52Speaker 8: their belt.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I made the point on our game preview.
- 21:55Speaker 6: It's just, you know, with Ramondre's fumble last week, it
- 21:57Speaker 6: felt like they got taken out of whatever the plan
- 21:59Speaker 6: was for the running backs, and it became, all right.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Well, we've got to go to Travion now.
- 22:02Speaker 6: I'd like to see them get a game where they
- 22:04Speaker 6: feel good about both guys and we see more of,
- 22:06Speaker 6: you know, balanced rotation. They're able to do what they want.
- 22:08Speaker 6: Nobody's getting benched for fumbling, that kind of thing. But
- 22:11Speaker 6: I still like Paul's thing from last week, you know,
- 22:13Speaker 6: throw the ball in first down, spread them out a
- 22:14Speaker 6: little bit.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah, throwing it is fine. It's just I don't think
- 22:17Speaker 2: you're going to, I think, high percentage. Yeah, just echoing
- 22:21Speaker 2: Paul's point.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Good start. Good start. What do you guys think the
- 22:24Speaker 4: running back situation, how that unfolds this week? You know,
- 22:27Speaker 4: obviously Stevenson did lose some time.
- 22:30Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 4: You know, he wasn't benched quote unquote, but he did
- 22:33Speaker 4: lose some time. And I thought Henderson got the bulk
- 22:35Speaker 4: of the carries. How do you think it unfolds?
- 22:37Speaker 2: I think it's back to normal. I think you're back
- 22:39Speaker 2: to him being your lead back. Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 8: Trevion coming, uh, coming in and, you know, getting his shots. Um,
- 22:46Speaker 8: but I think you're back to the way it started.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Before the fumble. Me too. Me too. I, you know, and,
- 22:51Speaker 2: you know, obviously Henderson, you know, uh, is healthy now.
- 22:55Speaker 2: So maybe it's been a places.
- 22:57Speaker 6: I haven't heard it, but I'm kind of glad that
- 22:59Speaker 6: people aren't losing their mind about the reminder fumble. Like,
- 23:02Speaker 6: and I don't know, my like running backs are going
- 23:04Speaker 6: to fumble, right? Like, you know, there's like, what's acceptable
- 23:06Speaker 6: and it's a bad one and all that. But like
- 23:08Speaker 6: we got over it. We don't need to belabor it. Every,
- 23:10Speaker 6: every single game.
- 23:11Speaker 4: I agree with all. I think it looked like all
- 23:13Speaker 4: you guys agreed that it would probably go back to normal. I,
- 23:16Speaker 4: I would anticipate that as well. Um, And I haven't
- 23:19Speaker 4: heard a lot of people necessarily ranting on the fumble,
- 23:23Speaker 4: but I have heard a rant in some circles, mostly
- 23:28Speaker 4: on the other station, not my shows.
- 23:31Speaker 2: They're all your shows.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Is that easy listening? They just want it. There's no disrespect, really,
- 23:36Speaker 4: to Stevenson and the fumbles. They just want all Henderson
- 23:39Speaker 4: all the time. And I just.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I don't think that's the most effective way.
- 23:43Speaker 4: I don't think that's the most effective thing for Henderson.
- 23:47Speaker 4: I don't think that he needs to get 20 carries.
- 23:50Speaker 4: You know, I just don't think that's probably in his
- 23:53Speaker 4: best interests.
- 23:54Speaker 8: I haven't seen the ability for him to be that
- 23:58Speaker 8: workhorse back yet.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I haven't seen that.
- 24:01Speaker 6: No, but he's, you know, I take what he is.
- 24:03Speaker 6: I mean, it's, we talk, I feel like this has
- 24:04Speaker 6: been a theme over the last year. It's like, you
- 24:06Speaker 6: got to take the good with the bad and he's
- 24:08Speaker 6: an explosive one play change the game. Kind of a
- 24:11Speaker 6: guy now. Do you want to trade him for a
- 24:13Speaker 6: guy like Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis, who's always going to get
- 24:15Speaker 6: you four and a half?
- 24:18Speaker 2: And that's it?
- 24:19Speaker 6: Or do you want a guy that you roll the
- 24:20Speaker 6: dice in? And that's why, to Paul and Evan's point,
- 24:23Speaker 6: going back to that rotation, working Ramond Ray in, you
- 24:26Speaker 6: know you can trust him in pass protection.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Then Travion Henderson's in there, and boom, big play.
- 24:30Speaker 4: So you brought up... the third downs and the pass protection,
- 24:33Speaker 4: I'm going to wade into waters here that sometimes I
- 24:35Speaker 4: get yelled at from the guy. Am I right? But
- 24:38Speaker 4: I thought anecdotally that it was a little better for
- 24:41Speaker 4: him in that role.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:44Speaker 4: He made it really wrong.
- 24:45Speaker 3: He made one really good blitz pickup on a linebacker
- 24:49Speaker 3: that he was, he was able to go and get him.
- 24:51Speaker 3: He gave up one pressure, but I think it was
- 24:54Speaker 3: more of a mental assignment issue, not a physical issue.
- 24:58Speaker 3: I think he's doing a better job of dying slowly.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Like you don't really expect the running back to like
- 25:03Speaker 3: dominate a rep against the 245 pound linebacker coming downhill.
- 25:08Speaker 3: So you just don't want them to like lose instantly.
- 25:10Speaker 4: And I was on a decision, not a TKO.
- 25:13Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:13Speaker 3: And, and I think that he's done a better job
- 25:16Speaker 3: of that, you know, cutting down the space, going and
- 25:19Speaker 3: getting the guy, trying to bring the fight to him
- 25:21Speaker 3: a little bit more. Like he's not as big as Ramondre.
- 25:23Speaker 3: So like Ramondre can just kind of, you know, almost
- 25:26Speaker 3: like past that, like he's an offensive lineman, you know,
- 25:29Speaker 3: training on Henderson is, is not that big. And I
- 25:31Speaker 3: think that's been the hardest adjustment of why it hasn't
- 25:34Speaker 3: translated from college is because he's a smaller player. So
- 25:38Speaker 3: these linebackers at this level are just kind of running
- 25:41Speaker 3: them over. And, and that's just not what you get
- 25:45Speaker 3: at the college level. So I think he's been a
- 25:47Speaker 3: little bit better. You know, I still think, I still
- 25:51Speaker 3: haven't seen anything with him as a receiver.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Like that's what natural.
- 25:54Speaker 3: That's what I'm more worried about at this point. Not worried,
- 25:57Speaker 3: but just like, I just haven't seen it. Like I
- 25:59Speaker 3: haven't seen him catching passes out of the backfield. Is
- 26:03Speaker 3: he effective at it? Like they don't send them on
- 26:05Speaker 3: like wheel routes or anything up the field to try
- 26:07Speaker 3: to use his speed often enough, in my opinion. So
- 26:11Speaker 3: I just wonder if maybe that's all because of the
- 26:13Speaker 3: past blocking. Like they just really don't trust them yet
- 26:17Speaker 3: to give him that volume, to be able to open
- 26:19Speaker 3: that up. But yeah, I'd like to see more of that.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Like if you can get him on a linebacker and
- 26:23Speaker 3: a wheel rally, you should win that every time.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Do you think you'd ever see packages where both of
- 26:27Speaker 2: them are on the field?
- 26:28Speaker 3: They do do that sometimes.
- 26:30Speaker 4: They did that a little Sunday. It may have only
- 26:32Speaker 4: been one or two plays, but they did.
- 26:34Speaker 10: Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Like a handful of times.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Pink pony package.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 3: They ran it on a, on third and one, they
- 26:39Speaker 3: actually had a pretty nice play design on third and one.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Ramondre was the up back. He was playing in a
- 26:45Speaker 3: fullback spot and they had Henderson flexed out wide and
- 26:48Speaker 3: and they motioned Henderson into the backfield, so they were
- 26:51Speaker 3: both in the backfield, and he faked the toss to
- 26:54Speaker 3: Henderson and handed it up the gut to Ramondre, and
- 26:56Speaker 3: it gained a first down.
- 26:57Speaker 6: That play stood out to me, and I jotted down,
- 26:59Speaker 6: I'm like, this will go to Travion. Like, later in
- 27:02Speaker 6: the season, as they start to build this.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Or, like, all sorts of different things that you can
- 27:06Speaker 3: sort of do off of that play.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 27:09Speaker 4: So the other thing, like, we talk about the blitz pickup,
- 27:12Speaker 4: and I always, it's interesting. You ever hear, when Vrabel
- 27:14Speaker 4: talks about it all the time, because he gets asked
- 27:17Speaker 4: a lot of questions because Christian Ellis and Robert Spillane
- 27:19Speaker 4: have been very effective as blitzing linebackers. And he always talks, well, Woody, well,
- 27:24Speaker 4: we always tell our linebackers you can't get blocked by
- 27:26Speaker 4: a running back.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:27Speaker 4: So that's great. You're talking about your defense. But now
- 27:30Speaker 4: you have running backs that do that.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Die slowly.
- 27:33Speaker 4: You know, and one of them in Henderson, I mean,
- 27:35Speaker 4: Stevenson's been excellent at it, although I think he did
- 27:38Speaker 4: miss one the other day, which I just overlooked that
- 27:41Speaker 4: for obvious reasons. He's earned it. You know, it's the
- 27:47Speaker 4: flip side for you. Like, you're telling your linebackers you
- 27:49Speaker 4: can never get blocked by running backs when you want
- 27:51Speaker 4: your running backs to pick up the linebackers.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Well, that's funny. That's a big Cody thing.
- 27:55Speaker 6: He talks, Cody, the match quarters guy who's got a
- 27:58Speaker 6: great site, but he always talks about attack the running
- 28:01Speaker 6: back in pass coverage. That is just the core defensive
- 28:04Speaker 6: philosophy of, you know, they should not be able to
- 28:07Speaker 6: block us.
- 28:07Speaker 2: So, you know. Ramondre maybe, but.
- 28:10Speaker 3: They did attack the Patriots running backs a lot and
- 28:12Speaker 3: let's pick up because they do a read. So they're
- 28:15Speaker 3: reading off of two different players and they picked either
- 28:18Speaker 3: the nearest threat to the quarterback or. if one drops
- 28:22Speaker 3: and one blitzes and they obviously pick up the one
- 28:25Speaker 3: that blitzes. So, uh, teams like Seattle, they, they send
- 28:28Speaker 3: two through the gap. So they'll send two guys at
- 28:32Speaker 3: Ramondre and Ramondre doesn't have it. He has, he's someone's
- 28:35Speaker 3: going to be unblocked. So like that, that was a
- 28:38Speaker 3: big part of their super bowl game plan and how
- 28:40Speaker 3: they took down their protections that ways.
- 28:42Speaker 2: All right.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Well, we know that he's blocking one of these two guys.
- 28:45Speaker 3: So that means the other one is going to be, uh,
- 28:48Speaker 3: free to the quarterback. And it's just kind of a, that,
- 28:50Speaker 3: that situation becomes kind of like a hot situation. Then
- 28:53Speaker 3: you got to get the ball out.
- 28:54Speaker 9: Okay.
- 28:56Speaker 8: Uh, podcast at Patriots.com is the email address. Let's start
- 29:00Speaker 8: reading some of them. Dustin writes in, someone tell Poopy
- 29:04Speaker 8: Pants Lazar to get a diaper and power through.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Wow.
- 29:07Speaker 8: Anyway.
- 29:07Speaker 3: That's aggressive.
- 29:08Speaker 8: Is it time to maybe give up on Landry? The
- 29:11Speaker 8: guy has been hurt for over a year and still
- 29:13Speaker 8: on the PUP list. I feel really good about Akas
- 29:18Speaker 8: taking a lot of snaps and could we be seeing
- 29:22Speaker 8: Drake's quote unquote sophomore slump? And man, I love Stevenson
- 29:26Speaker 8: more than anyone in the world, but He needs to
- 29:30Speaker 8: stop this fumbling nonsense.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Patriots take the game 21-17. Just on the.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Harold Landry point at the start, he's on PUP and
- 29:39Speaker 4: can't come off. That's no excuse, Paul. It's not like
- 29:41Speaker 4: he's still on people. He can't come off until week five.
- 29:45Speaker 4: If you say so.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Here are all the things that are wrong, but I
- 29:47Speaker 3: got the Patriots 27-21.
- 29:49Speaker 4: It's a prototypical Sully. He'll be at the game. He'll
- 29:52Speaker 4: be in his jorts at the game. With a Brewski shirt.
- 29:55Speaker 3: The Landry thing is a little bit on my radar. Like,
- 29:58Speaker 3: are they going to get anything from Harold Landry this year?
- 30:00Speaker 9: I kind of felt.
- 30:01Speaker 11: Like that even going into the season. With how much
- 30:04Speaker 11: time he spent banged up during training camp and not participating.
- 30:07Speaker 9: I don't know, like.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I'm not counting on it.
- 30:10Speaker 11: I wouldn't have been surprised if like he had retired
- 30:12Speaker 11: before the season started.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I'm going to Fred.
- 30:14Speaker 9: I'm glad he didn't, but no.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Fred often has situations like that. And you always say like,
- 30:20Speaker 4: I'm not really expecting anything from X. And then if
- 30:24Speaker 4: it happens and you get something, obviously you're excited about it,
- 30:28Speaker 4: but you go in with low expectations. That's kind of
- 30:31Speaker 4: how I feel. If he comes back and he's contributing
- 30:34Speaker 4: at all, I think that's gravy because right now he's
- 30:38Speaker 4: off your radar. He's not on.
- 30:40Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Perfect. Chisholm this week? Yeah. I think they owe it
- 30:46Speaker 2: to him.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I think he'll be active.
- 30:48Speaker 2: They owe it to him because he had that opportunity.
- 30:50Speaker 2: He got blown up. He held onto the ball. You know,
- 30:53Speaker 2: on the screen.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Good on him.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Actually, he should have dropped it. He should have, but
- 30:56Speaker 2: he didn't.
- 30:57Speaker 4: They might have been able to go for it on
- 30:58Speaker 4: fourth down.
- 31:00Speaker 2: But I think they owe him a couple opportunities. He
- 31:03Speaker 2: put the work in.
- 31:04Speaker 3: I think it's the same as what we were talking
- 31:06Speaker 3: yesterday about Travis Hunter. He comes on the field and
- 31:08Speaker 3: they throw him the ball immediately. It's like, oh, I
- 31:10Speaker 3: wonder where the ball's going. They have this guy that
- 31:12Speaker 3: played five snaps, and this is the one time he's
- 31:14Speaker 3: on the field. So if they're going to play him,
- 31:17Speaker 3: then play him. That's what I'm saying.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Get him out there. Give him some opportunity.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Yeah, if you only play a guy five to ten
- 31:23Speaker 3: snaps and defenses are going to just be keyed on.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Let him blend in a little bit before you actually
- 31:28Speaker 2: target him. There you go. Yeah. Blocking and then.
- 31:32Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 31:32Speaker 2: No, he's a willing blocker.
- 31:35Speaker 4: So if they continue, you know, this is, I mean,
- 31:39Speaker 4: I know we're having fun, but I'm going to go
- 31:41Speaker 4: to Evan from yesterday.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Pop Douglas is a willing blocker, dude.
- 31:44Speaker 4: If they're going to continue to do that stuff that
- 31:47Speaker 4: Evan talked about yesterday, where kind of conservatively in the
- 31:50Speaker 4: past game, like they have been sort of cautious to
- 31:53Speaker 4: just spread it out and put five guys in all
- 31:55Speaker 4: these routes.
- 31:56Speaker 3: They've babied the offensive line, you can say it.
- 31:58Speaker 10: Right?
- 31:58Speaker 4: No, no, no, but I'm just saying if they're going
- 31:59Speaker 4: to continue that approach... then there's really no need for
- 32:03Speaker 4: Kyle Williams or Efton Chisholm to suddenly get 30 snaps.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Because they don't have that many plays that they're running
- 32:11Speaker 4: where five receivers are actually employed in the routes. And
- 32:16Speaker 4: if we're going to keep guys in to block, well,
- 32:19Speaker 4: I'm going to keep Romandre Stevenson as one of those
- 32:21Speaker 4: guys to block, not... to Mario Douglas or Efton Chisholm.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I agree.
- 32:27Speaker 4: No disrespect. Willing blocker, Fred. Willing blocker.
- 32:30Speaker 2: You're right.
- 32:31Speaker 5: Willing.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Ready and willing. And able.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I probably can't quit Kyle Williams, but Kyle Williams, I
- 32:39Speaker 3: feel like, at least has the ability to run coverage
- 32:42Speaker 3: off and clear out, even if he's not getting the ball.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Fred's guy, I'm not really sure... If he has like
- 32:49Speaker 3: that kind of value away from the football, not yet,
- 32:52Speaker 3: you know, like that, he's, you know, Kyle Williams has
- 32:54Speaker 3: gotten his opportunities basically just running clear out routes and
- 32:59Speaker 3: they need to have a fast guy that can run
- 33:01Speaker 3: down the field and make the safeties, you know, stay
- 33:03Speaker 3: back and that sort of thing. And they've had some
- 33:06Speaker 3: success with him on the field because of that. Now,
- 33:08Speaker 3: he hasn't been targeted a ton, but he's, for the
- 33:12Speaker 3: love of the game, he's running wind sprints down the field,
- 33:15Speaker 3: which can be useful. You have to have somebody to
- 33:18Speaker 3: do it.
- 33:19Speaker 4: Tiring, too.
- 33:20Speaker 9: Probably.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I hate sprinting.
- 33:23Speaker 8: I don't know who this emailer is. In a polite society,
- 33:26Speaker 8: you introduce yourself. But anyway, he or she says, it's
- 33:30Speaker 8: just so basic. We need to take care of the ball.
- 33:33Speaker 8: Drake May has had more turnovers than other quarterbacks over
- 33:35Speaker 8: the period of time that he's playing. Ramondre Stevenson, same
- 33:38Speaker 8: as a running back.
- 33:39Speaker 2: We need to take care of the ball.
- 33:42Speaker 5: Correct.
- 33:42Speaker 10: Yep.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Very true. I think Mike Frabel would wholeheartedly agree with you.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I think that there's a fine line. I really do.
- 33:51Speaker 3: You absolutely need to take care of the ball. It's
- 33:53Speaker 3: a priority. I don't like hearing it's the first priority.
- 33:58Speaker 4: I know what you're saying.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I don't like that. They need to be aggressive. They're
- 34:03Speaker 3: not going to beat teams, good teams, like Jacksonville next
- 34:07Speaker 3: week against Buffalo, playing conservative... protect the football type of offense. Like,
- 34:13Speaker 3: it's not going to be good enough.
- 34:14Speaker 4: Like, I heard someone on the radio today dialing up
- 34:18Speaker 4: the perfect scenario for a Patriots win down there. It
- 34:21Speaker 4: would be like a 14-10 kind of game. And I just,
- 34:26Speaker 4: for all the reasons Evan just said, I just vehemently
- 34:29Speaker 4: disagree with that. I don't think that would be great.
- 34:31Speaker 4: I mean, a win is a win, and you'd take it.
- 34:33Speaker 4: You'd be much, much happier to be 2-1. But I
- 34:37Speaker 4: don't think that would be great if they won that way.
- 34:39Speaker 4: It would be great for the defense, but you'd still
- 34:42Speaker 4: have the same stuff that you're hanging over your head
- 34:45Speaker 4: about the offense. And eventually, you need to score points.
- 34:48Speaker 4: You need to be productive on offense.
- 34:50Speaker 8: And going back to what Evan was worried about, about
- 34:52Speaker 8: making not turning the ball over your top priority, it
- 34:56Speaker 8: does limit you.
- 34:57Speaker 2: And it's what I was talking about with Stevenson.
- 34:59Speaker 8: I think if you're running and the main thing you're
- 35:02Speaker 8: thinking about is, I can't fumble, I can't fumble, it
- 35:04Speaker 8: changes your style.
- 35:06Speaker 2: And I think... You can elevate that to a team.
- 35:09Speaker 8: If that's your main thing going into a game, then
- 35:12Speaker 8: that's not good.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Yeah. I thought the turnovers in this Pittsburgh game, even
- 35:17Speaker 4: though there were only two, were, you know, I know
- 35:21Speaker 4: it sounds silly because they lost the game on an
- 35:23Speaker 4: interception in Seattle, but it was almost more because it
- 35:25Speaker 4: took points directly off the board twice. Both of those turnovers,
- 35:30Speaker 4: I feel, stopped scoring drives.
- 35:34Speaker 10: And you.
- 35:36Speaker 4: Those are the ones that you've got to eliminate. I
- 35:39Speaker 4: understand what Evan's saying, and I totally agree with Evan.
- 35:41Speaker 4: You can't just tell Drake, be a game manager. Make
- 35:45Speaker 4: sure you don't, whatever you do, don't turn.
- 35:49Speaker 2: The ball over.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Because then I don't think he's going to be as
- 35:51Speaker 4: effective as he should be. And as we become accustomed
- 35:55Speaker 4: to him being last year. So I understand where Evan's
- 35:57Speaker 4: coming from.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I think certain weeks you can go into the game
- 36:00Speaker 3: that way. When they play the Dolphins and the Jets,
- 36:03Speaker 3: they should be able to win those games playing.
- 36:05Speaker 2: A clean game.
- 36:05Speaker 10: Or situations.
- 36:06Speaker 8: If it's the last play of the game, whatever you do,
- 36:09Speaker 8: don't throw an interception.
- 36:11Speaker 4: That's a great way to do it, like what I'm
- 36:12Speaker 4: talking about. Yes, that obviously was a killer interception that
- 36:16Speaker 4: can't happen.
- 36:16Speaker 10: Right.
- 36:17Speaker 4: The ones that hurt them in this game, like for
- 36:20Speaker 4: the emailers' point, just protect the football. If they had
- 36:23Speaker 4: protected the football in the Pittsburgh game, I think our
- 36:25Speaker 4: narratives would be much different about the offense because I
- 36:28Speaker 4: think they would have been probably in the mid to
- 36:30Speaker 4: upper 20s. But I don't think people would be wondering,
- 36:33Speaker 4: where's the point? Where are the points? Why are they
- 36:35Speaker 4: only scoring 13 points? Because of them, they only scored
- 36:38Speaker 4: 13 points.
- 36:39Speaker 6: But is it applicable on a team that clearly runs
- 36:42Speaker 6: its defense off of turnovers? I think of like the
- 36:46Speaker 6: 2011 Patriots defense that stunk, but they led the league
- 36:48Speaker 6: in turnovers.
- 36:49Speaker 2: You know?
- 36:51Speaker 8: When you say they run their defense that way, that's,
- 36:54Speaker 8: I don't, I agree with that. I don't think any
- 36:56Speaker 8: team says, we're going to be a team that relies
- 37:00Speaker 8: on turning the ball over.
- 37:02Speaker 2: You can't plan on that. No, I know, but that's
- 37:05Speaker 2: what they do. I agree with you.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Those are generally bad defenses because you can't rely on it.
- 37:12Speaker 4: It's such a variable that tends to fluctuate.
- 37:15Speaker 8: If another team is really good at not turning it over,
- 37:17Speaker 8: now are you screwed?
- 37:18Speaker 4: I think they're a better defense than that. But they
- 37:21Speaker 4: do take the ball away a lot. Mike's right.
- 37:24Speaker 8: I just don't like going into a game thinking we're
- 37:28Speaker 8: going to win because they're going to make mistakes.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I think turnovers to me are kind of one of
- 37:35Speaker 3: the most overrated stats in football in a way because
- 37:39Speaker 3: it's so luck-driven and it's very like streaky, like your turnovers,
- 37:46Speaker 3: like are very, very like situational and streaky. So like
- 37:51Speaker 3: the Jaguars last year, you know, they got a lot
- 37:54Speaker 3: of turnovers, but it's because the defense faced a lot
- 37:57Speaker 3: of plays. So, you know, you have a lot of
- 37:59Speaker 3: plays against you and, you know, some of the plays
- 38:02Speaker 3: are going, are going to be good plays. And then
- 38:04Speaker 3: every once in a while, you're going to tip a
- 38:06Speaker 3: ball and it's going to land in a defender's hands.
- 38:09Speaker 3: You know, like, I think that there are turnovers that
- 38:11Speaker 3: are self-inflicted. I think the Patriots had two of them.
- 38:14Speaker 3: on Sunday, but I think that that's a very volatile
- 38:17Speaker 3: stat and typically is not only not stable week to week,
- 38:22Speaker 3: but really not stable year to year.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Year to year is what I would really... Yeah. They
- 38:26Speaker 4: come in bunches, and sometimes teams do that. The Saints,
- 38:29Speaker 4: you know, the Sean Payton Saints did that a lot.
- 38:31Speaker 4: They didn't have great defenses, but they always seemed to
- 38:34Speaker 4: take the ball away. And to Evan's point, that was
- 38:36Speaker 4: probably because they had Drew Brees and all these great
- 38:38Speaker 4: offensive players, and they were in the lead a lot,
- 38:40Speaker 4: and the other teams running a lot of plays... They're
- 38:43Speaker 4: kind of one-dimensional. That's when turnovers come.
- 38:47Speaker 8: Now, there are some defenses that are just that good
- 38:50Speaker 8: that because of how they play, they force mistakes. They
- 38:54Speaker 8: force quarterbacks to make bad decisions. Or because they're so
- 38:58Speaker 8: fast to get to the ball, they have time to
- 39:01Speaker 8: punch at it or whatever. People think, like I always think, oh,
- 39:06Speaker 8: why doesn't he just punch at the ball or grab
- 39:08Speaker 8: at the ball?
- 39:09Speaker 2: It's not that easy because it's two people going.
- 39:13Speaker 8: At high speed and to be able to time it
- 39:16Speaker 8: just right so that you can get a good hit
- 39:18Speaker 8: at the ball.
- 39:19Speaker 2: That's kind of rare.
- 39:21Speaker 8: Because your first object is to stop the guy, not
- 39:23Speaker 8: to get the ball.
- 39:25Speaker 3: So much more respect for defenses that are good play
- 39:28Speaker 3: to play and not just. like, Oh, like this defense.
- 39:31Speaker 3: And I'm not saying the Jaguars are all of this,
- 39:32Speaker 3: but like this defense force, a bunch of turnovers.
- 39:35Speaker 15: Okay.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Well, what do they do on the other, you know, 95%
- 39:38Speaker 3: of the plays that they actually face? Cause then you
- 39:40Speaker 3: can face it. Like, The Jaguars first forced 31 turnovers
- 39:44Speaker 3: last year. They probably played 1,000 plays of defense. So
- 39:47Speaker 3: that's just a fraction of the actual plays that they're
- 39:50Speaker 3: playing in a game. So when I say it's overrated,
- 39:53Speaker 3: I just mean, like, it's not stable. Like, you can't
- 39:56Speaker 3: rely on being that kind of team. Not that the
- 39:58Speaker 3: turnover margin's overrated, because that's, like, a tried and true thing. Like,
- 40:01Speaker 3: if you win turnover margin, you win games.
- 40:03Speaker 8: But if you have a guy like Ed Reed back there,
- 40:05Speaker 8: he's going to... The quarterback just knowing he's back there is.
- 40:11Speaker 6: I put some value on forced fumbles from a defense.
- 40:14Speaker 6: I think that says something about the defense that is
- 40:16Speaker 6: part of their personality. They rally to the ball. There's
- 40:19Speaker 6: a bunch of guys. They're punching out. They're hitting interceptions.
- 40:21Speaker 2: I get it.
- 40:21Speaker 6: But I do think that there's a little bit of
- 40:23Speaker 6: truth in the teams that force a lot of fumbles.
- 40:25Speaker 8: But I think their ability allows them to be like
- 40:28Speaker 8: that because they're fast.
- 40:30Speaker 2: They're smart. They're instinctive.
- 40:32Speaker 8: And so, like you say, they're rallying to the ball
- 40:35Speaker 8: because they can. So it starts with talent to be
- 40:39Speaker 8: able to do it, and then, okay, let's punch at
- 40:41Speaker 8: the ball. But until then, if I'm a coach, until
- 40:44Speaker 8: my team proves that they can be that type of
- 40:47Speaker 8: swarming defense, priority one is stopping him.
- 40:51Speaker 2: You know, it's not.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Yeah, like, usually, like, the second guy in is the
- 40:55Speaker 3: one punching at you all.
- 40:56Speaker 10: Right, right.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Not the one guy's wrapping him and the other guy's
- 40:59Speaker 3: punching at it. If you're punching at it without the
- 41:01Speaker 3: wrap first, then, like, as much as it works one
- 41:05Speaker 3: every ten times, the one time, the nine times it doesn't,
- 41:08Speaker 3: it's a broken tackle and they're off.
- 41:10Speaker 4: And I do think that they're not all the same.
- 41:12Speaker 4: You know, like, in Sunday's game, just take that one
- 41:16Speaker 4: for an example. I thought the Patriots did exactly what
- 41:19Speaker 4: Mike's talking about. I thought they aggressively forced two fumbles
- 41:23Speaker 4: with obviously hits on Rodgers that, you know, those are
- 41:29Speaker 4: like forced fumbles. I thought the two fumbles that the
- 41:31Speaker 4: Steelers created off the Patriots were kind of weak fumbles
- 41:35Speaker 4: by the individual, Stevenson and Dobbs. And they both got punched.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Yeah. To your point, they took advantage of the week.
- 41:42Speaker 4: They were punched, but I don't think that should lead
- 41:44Speaker 4: to a fumble, you know, in, in, in both of
- 41:47Speaker 4: those situations. So I don't really look at the, the,
- 41:51Speaker 4: the nature of the turnover to me is kind of
- 41:54Speaker 4: the same. There's, there's a, a fluky nature to it in,
- 41:58Speaker 4: in sort of a, um, I, I think the word
- 42:01Speaker 4: that Evan used that I liked was volatile. You know, I,
- 42:05Speaker 4: every year when we go to the playoffs and, And
- 42:08Speaker 4: we just look and see, like, if the Patriots aren't involved,
- 42:11Speaker 4: you just sort of, like, looking at the games. The
- 42:14Speaker 4: teams that I tend to gravitate away from are the
- 42:16Speaker 4: ones that generated the most turnovers. Because I always think
- 42:18Speaker 4: to myself, what's going to happen today in a one-and-done
- 42:23Speaker 4: situation when they don't force any turnovers? Because I just
- 42:25Speaker 4: think it's so sporadic. All you need is 17 guys
- 42:29Speaker 4: punching at the football, but you played against the team
- 42:32Speaker 4: that actually protects the football and doesn't put it on
- 42:34Speaker 4: the ground. Or even worse.
- 42:37Speaker 4: Like the Bengals in week one, they forced four fumbles.
- 42:39Speaker 4: They recovered them all.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Right.
- 42:42Speaker 4: That's such a fluky nature to who actually recovers the
- 42:44Speaker 4: fumble once it's there.
- 42:46Speaker 3: That was the luck thing I was referring to. It
- 42:48Speaker 3: was like, tip passes, fumble recoveries. The ball bounces directly
- 42:55Speaker 3: back to the quarterback or an offensive lineman instead of
- 42:58Speaker 3: bouncing to a defender. There's all sorts of stats about that, too,
- 43:04Speaker 3: of teams that actually fall on their fumbles.
- 43:06Speaker 2: That is very....
- 43:09Speaker 3: Volatile season to season as well.
- 43:11Speaker 6: I was just going to say your example is exactly
- 43:14Speaker 6: that 11 Patriots team I talked about. They played the Jets.
- 43:16Speaker 6: They don't turn over Mark Sanchez. Mark Sanchez plays a
- 43:18Speaker 6: perfect game and they get beat. But I still think
- 43:23Speaker 6: like that there are certain defenses that some years they
- 43:26Speaker 6: just got it and it's happening and you're right.
- 43:27Speaker 2: They can dry up at any point, but I get
- 43:30Speaker 2: the overall point.
- 43:31Speaker 6: This is a battle of being saying, not wanting your
- 43:33Speaker 6: team to be too conservative, but knowing that if you
- 43:36Speaker 6: go out there and throw three stupid balls into coverage
- 43:38Speaker 6: and you get three interceptions, we're probably going to lose.
- 43:41Speaker 10: Right. Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 4: And that's the, that's more bad offense. Like, but I'm
- 43:45Speaker 4: just talking about like the defenses, you know, to put
- 43:48Speaker 4: a bow on, like the defenses that generally create a
- 43:50Speaker 4: lot of turnovers doesn't necessarily mean they're good defenses.
- 43:53Speaker 11: And not for nothing, but just like looking for something,
- 43:56Speaker 11: just kind of, Not to bring up the same schedule
- 43:59Speaker 11: argument that's been used against the Patriots all of last
- 44:02Speaker 11: year and into this year, but Jaguars are in a
- 44:05Speaker 11: similar situation. I don't think any of their wins were
- 44:08Speaker 11: against super great quarterbacks that they're beating up on. Is
- 44:14Speaker 11: too much credence being given to all the turnovers they
- 44:16Speaker 11: accumulated last season?
- 44:17Speaker 2: I think going into week three, you're right. It's too early.
- 44:21Speaker 8: The sample size isn't large enough to make any conclusions
- 44:26Speaker 8: about any team yet.
- 44:27Speaker 2: You know?
- 44:27Speaker 3: Well, last year they also had a last place schedule.
- 44:30Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Just like the Patriots. That's what I'm saying. They were
- 44:33Speaker 3: 4-13 the year before, and so were the Patriots. I
- 44:35Speaker 3: think their schedule was harder than the Patriots.
- 44:36Speaker 9: Beat up on the Titans, beat up on the Jets.
- 44:38Speaker 11: They ran into the Colts when they had already lost
- 44:41Speaker 11: Daniel Jones.
- 44:42Speaker 9: So, I don't know. It's a lot of variables, like
- 44:45Speaker 9: you guys are saying.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Yeah. No one's identity is created yet. So, we'll see.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 44:52Speaker 6: Uh.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Good turnover, Tom. Yeah.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Joe says, I love Fred telling Alex to shut up. Joking,
- 45:00Speaker 2: of course.
- 45:01Speaker 8: But that's the no one safe PFW I grew up on.
- 45:05Speaker 8: Speaking of that, I've been loving the postgame show. Jack
- 45:08Speaker 8: fits in remarkably for a whippersnapper. I look forward to
- 45:11Speaker 8: some classic PU style fights between Troy and Fred later
- 45:15Speaker 8: in the season.
- 45:16Speaker 2: He's feisty, competitive, and really smart. Feels like they're coming.
- 45:20Speaker 2: I wouldn't call Jack a whippersnapper. Yeah, what's a whippersnapper?
- 45:23Speaker 3: He's about 6'5.
- 45:24Speaker 9: He's younger than us.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Did you expect that?
- 45:26Speaker 3: I've heard the term before, but I wasn't sure if I...
- 45:28Speaker 3: A young whippersnapper.
- 45:30Speaker 2: A little young guy. Young up-and-comer. He's a whippersnapper. He
- 45:33Speaker 2: has nothing to do with size.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Hats with a propeller on it.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Like I said, I heard this before. Paul and Troy
- 45:40Speaker 2: is the more likely fight at some point.
- 45:43Speaker 4: I can virtually guarantee that won't happen.
- 45:45Speaker 9: Paul loves Troy way too much.
- 45:47Speaker 10: Why?
- 45:47Speaker 4: Because he caught a pass over his head.
- 45:50Speaker 12: I know.
- 45:51Speaker 4: It was like one of the most amazing catches I've
- 45:53Speaker 4: ever seen.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Why would you back down?
- 45:54Speaker 9: He doesn't want that smoke.
- 45:56Speaker 4: But I'm not going to argue with a player about football.
- 45:59Speaker 4: I'm not going to do it.
- 46:01Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. I could see disagreeing
- 46:06Speaker 2: with a take.
- 46:07Speaker 9: I think Paul respects his opinion too much.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Well, I respect everyone's opinion.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Okay.
- 46:13Speaker 16: No.
- 46:13Speaker 2: You know, Evan doesn't, but I do.
- 46:18Speaker 3: That's not true. I respect everybody's opinion at this table.
- 46:21Speaker 4: He just ignores them.
- 46:22Speaker 2: You told me yesterday. You looked down on me.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Yeah, because you said Babe Ruth was your.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Favorite baseball player. Okay, so you don't respect my opinion.
- 46:30Speaker 4: Correct.
- 46:31Speaker 2: So you just, you know.
- 46:33Speaker 4: He played 100 years ago.
- 46:34Speaker 8: Yeah. Abraham Lincoln's my favorite president.
- 46:37Speaker 2: I never saw him. It's the impact, Evan.
- 46:40Speaker 9: It's the impact.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 46:43Speaker 3: You didn't live through the impact. You didn't know what
- 46:46Speaker 3: it was like.
- 46:46Speaker 9: He's seeing the trickle-down effects. We all are. Abraham Lincoln?
- 46:51Speaker 4: The 27 Yankees.
- 46:52Speaker 3: I mean, what a lineup.
- 46:53Speaker 10: Am I right?
- 46:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:56Speaker 4: It's arguably the greatest baseball.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Team of all time.
- 47:00Speaker 12: Right.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:01Speaker 9: Did you like history class?
- 47:03Speaker 4: I was actually. Didn't care for the revolution?
- 47:05Speaker 3: I would say the history class is probably my best
- 47:07Speaker 3: subject because it's a little like sports. Like, you know,
- 47:09Speaker 3: like you're studying like.
- 47:11Speaker 4: What happened?
- 47:11Speaker 3: Something and.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:13Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 47:13Speaker 3: So I, that was definitely probably, that and English were.
- 47:17Speaker 7: My two best.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Grind the tape on World War II. Oh. Yeah.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Yeah you know i learned a lot about generals and
- 47:22Speaker 3: my favorite generals from world war ii.
- 47:24Speaker 6: I tell you ranked them so i get up to
- 47:26Speaker 6: a certain age i've been grinding the tape on world
- 47:28Speaker 6: war ii like ulysses of course that just happened to
- 47:31Speaker 6: all of us you just become interested in like the
- 47:32Speaker 6: history channel more like i've always like you know liked
- 47:34Speaker 6: history but man as i get older i'm like fascinated.
- 47:37Speaker 4: By so what yes is the short answer to your
- 47:40Speaker 4: question but what specifically is like.
- 47:44Speaker 9: His niche?
- 47:45Speaker 4: Yeah, on the History Channel.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Oh, he loves Native American stuff. Oh, yeah, I do
- 47:49Speaker 2: love Native American stuff.
- 47:50Speaker 5: Really?
- 47:51Speaker 2: I do love that. Yeah, that's... I read a couple books, too, about.
- 47:54Speaker 4: I'm trying to encourage him.
- 47:55Speaker 9: To write about this.
- 47:56Speaker 4: I'm too much of an idiot.
- 47:57Speaker 11: I'm trying to encourage Mike to write a screenplay about
- 48:00Speaker 11: this niche he's.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Found himself in. I do very much enjoy that, but.
- 48:03Speaker 9: He spoke... Didn't you speak at the library about this recently?
- 48:06Speaker 2: I went to a speak at the library.
- 48:08Speaker 9: Oh, you attended.
- 48:08Speaker 2: It was at the old Colony History Museum.
- 48:09Speaker 4: I'm not trying to embarrass you.
- 48:10Speaker 2: I think it's cool. Me, I texted Lane.
- 48:13Speaker 6: I was like, I am the youngest person here by
- 48:16Speaker 6: a long shot. But no, I got into like, you know,
- 48:19Speaker 6: this is like old guy thing. I'm like, so wait,
- 48:20Speaker 6: what happened in Africa in World War II?
- 48:22Speaker 4: You know, like I'm starting to like need the full picture.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Of course, everybody knows DVD.
- 48:25Speaker 10: All right.
- 48:26Speaker 6: So I read a book about Africa.
- 48:28Speaker 4: I'm an old guy.
- 48:30Speaker 2: It's all history.
- 48:30Speaker 4: The History Channel has a lot of sort of interesting shows.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Oh, hell yeah.
- 48:34Speaker 4: World War II and color. See, you're actually, you're into
- 48:38Speaker 4: like the... the real history. Like, you're into, like, the
- 48:41Speaker 4: wars and how the world got to be the way... No, like, that's, like, to.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Me, important.
- 48:46Speaker 2: You're also into the fake history.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Yes, I am.
- 48:48Speaker 9: Historical fiction.
- 48:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:50Speaker 4: No, no, no. It's actual... It's real. Like, obviously, it's
- 48:54Speaker 4: on the History Channel, but he's into, like, important history.
- 48:57Speaker 4: That's actually.
- 48:58Speaker 6: What's your unimportant history?
- 49:01Speaker 4: Do you ever watch the brand names that built America?
- 49:05Speaker 7: Oh, sure.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:06Speaker 4: I'm fascinated. I'm fascinated by that stuff.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Oh, that's cool, too, though.
- 49:09Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. It's not fake. America's built off industry.
- 49:11Speaker 8: Right.
- 49:11Speaker 4: But I find those to be, sometimes like on a
- 49:15Speaker 4: random like Sunday morning, I'll watch like three back to back.
- 49:18Speaker 10: Right.
- 49:18Speaker 4: You know, like cereal.
- 49:19Speaker 14: Oh, yeah.
- 49:20Speaker 2: It's like cola.
- 49:21Speaker 4: You know, and it's just like, you know, candy.
- 49:24Speaker 2: You know, like Fred Reese's and John Nestle had a rivalry.
- 49:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 49:27Speaker 17: I didn't even.
- 49:28Speaker 4: Like I find myself watching that stuff all the time.
- 49:32Speaker 4: It's not anywhere near as important, but it's relevant.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It wasn't.
- 49:35Speaker 4: It's real.
- 49:36Speaker 2: It wasn't the greatest movie, but Seinfeld did a movie
- 49:38Speaker 2: about cereal. Post vs. General Mills.
- 49:41Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 49:41Speaker 2: And it was a comedy. Back in the day when,
- 49:44Speaker 2: you know, they had that big rivalry. It was pretty cool.
- 49:47Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 49:48Speaker 2: It was funny. I like Foods of Built America. Coke, Pepsi.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Don't you have to go? I like that, too.
- 49:57Speaker 8: Historical fiction's good. I don't know if anyone ever... read
- 50:00Speaker 8: the book Devil in the White City.
- 50:02Speaker 4: Oh, I read that one, yeah.
- 50:04Speaker 8: You know, and he wrote a series of books after that.
- 50:06Speaker 2: I've read a bunch of his books. That were all
- 50:07Speaker 2: historical fiction. Oh, yeah. No, the one about the, is
- 50:10Speaker 2: it the Lusitania? Yeah. That ship, he wrote one about that. Yeah.
- 50:13Speaker 4: Mike is sneaky smart. I don't like him.
- 50:16Speaker 2: I got back into reading, and I enjoy reading now.
- 50:18Speaker 4: I enjoy reading more than TV or movies.
- 50:20Speaker 9: He knows a lot about a lot.
- 50:21Speaker 4: No, I don't yet, but I'm trying to get there.
- 50:24Speaker 4: You know a little about a lot.
- 50:26Speaker 9: Your words, not me.
- 50:27Speaker 4: Good stuff.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Good stuff. Bill in Norfolk, Virginia.
- 50:32Speaker 8: Any updates on tailgates or events happening on Saturday down
- 50:36Speaker 8: in Jacksonville, driving down for a road trip and would
- 50:38Speaker 8: love to meet up with other fans?
- 50:39Speaker 2: I haven't heard anything yet.
- 50:40Speaker 4: I don't know about Jacksonville, but I'm really concerned about
- 50:42Speaker 4: my tailgate on Saturday. I still can't believe it hasn't
- 50:45Speaker 4: been canceled.
- 50:45Speaker 9: I hope it's inside.
- 50:46Speaker 4: It's not.
- 50:47Speaker 6: Yeah, the Cape wedding that I was supposed to participate
- 50:50Speaker 6: in got canceled.
- 50:51Speaker 1: That's sad.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Yeah, they had to cancel. The tent company canceled Saturday.
- 50:54Speaker 8: I can tell you the Cape's going to get hit
- 50:56Speaker 8: more than up here. Like this morning, it was like, okay,
- 51:01Speaker 8: something's coming. The wind was coming.
- 51:03Speaker 2: The branches were down.
- 51:03Speaker 9: The waves in Narragansett last night were wild.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:05Speaker 8: But then you come up here, and it's pretty calm.
- 51:09Speaker 8: So there's a big difference between down there and the coast.
- 51:12Speaker 4: And up here.
- 51:13Speaker 11: Not to go too far off track, but will there
- 51:15Speaker 11: be an episode on the podcast channel about hunkering down
- 51:19Speaker 11: a historic cape.
- 51:20Speaker 3: House for a big nor'easter?
- 51:21Speaker 2: I won't be there.
- 51:22Speaker 10: Oh, right.
- 51:22Speaker 8: Yeah. You know, my wife will be there, and if
- 51:25Speaker 8: we do lose power, I'm sure I'll mention how the generator.
- 51:28Speaker 2: Worked out and all that. See, that's what I was picturing, Fred.
- 51:30Speaker 4: I was picturing you just.
- 51:31Speaker 6: Sitting in your house and waiting for the power to
- 51:33Speaker 6: go off.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Don't worry. Don't worry.
- 51:35Speaker 4: I got it, Nicky.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Sit down.
- 51:37Speaker 4: I got it.
- 51:37Speaker 6: The power clicks off, and Fred waits a beat, and
- 51:39Speaker 6: then it comes back on.
- 51:41Speaker 2: It just comes on.
- 51:42Speaker 9: It's seamless. You wouldn't even know it went off.
- 51:44Speaker 4: Fred just raises his hands like.
- 51:46Speaker 2: That's right.
- 51:47Speaker 4: He's like Frabel. He just laid hands on the power grid.
- 51:51Speaker 4: Everything was great.
- 51:52Speaker 8: That ain't working so well this season. Usually I'm out
- 51:58Speaker 8: of the house by 6.30, but I have the Generac
- 52:01Speaker 8: scheduled to run its little weekly thing Monday mornings at
- 52:05Speaker 8: 8 o'clock. So this Monday I would happen to be home,
- 52:08Speaker 8: and I'm at my desk, and all of a sudden
- 52:10Speaker 8: I hear the generator go on, and I'm like.
- 52:13Speaker 4: That's exactly what I was picturing.
- 52:14Speaker 9: That's exactly it. Just the satisfaction.
- 52:17Speaker 4: This is our future. That's right.
- 52:19Speaker 9: This is our future, Evan.
- 52:20Speaker 6: And then he's like, let's go drive around and see
- 52:22Speaker 6: who doesn't have a generator.
- 52:25Speaker 9: He's like peasant.
- 52:26Speaker 10: Peasant.
- 52:26Speaker 3: I feel like I just live on a totally different
- 52:30Speaker 3: planet than these three. It's just like.
- 52:33Speaker 2: City living.
- 52:33Speaker 4: I don't have a generator.
- 52:35Speaker 2: It just doesn't even.
- 52:36Speaker 3: None of your, like, things are probably... You're like, our
- 52:40Speaker 3: power's out.
- 52:41Speaker 9: What's going on?
- 52:42Speaker 3: I don't even... Yeah.
- 52:43Speaker 4: By the way, update on my car. We're getting close.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Oh, yeah?
- 52:46Speaker 4: 250 more miles.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Making any new noises?
- 52:48Speaker 4: We get to 300,000. Oh, I'm going to hit.
- 52:49Speaker 9: 300 probably around the same time as you. Want to
- 52:52Speaker 9: throw a party?
- 52:54Speaker 4: Then it's on the way to four.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Then it's just going to, like, combust.
- 52:56Speaker 4: I can't get a new one. It's just going to.
- 52:57Speaker 9: Not my Toyota.
- 52:57Speaker 6: There's got to be a reward policy for a car
- 53:00Speaker 6: when you hit... Like, I'm sure Toyota... Toyota, I've seen
- 53:02Speaker 6: them send... If you hit 500K, you get a new car.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they should, like... No, they'll send you like a sticker.
- 53:08Speaker 11: They'll send you like a 400,000 mile club sticker.
- 53:11Speaker 4: He'll pat you on the head.
- 53:13Speaker 9: He keeps saying.
- 53:14Speaker 3: That he can't get a new car. I can't. That's
- 53:17Speaker 3: just not true. Do you know how much cars.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Cost right now?
- 53:20Speaker 9: I don't think you.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Have any idea how much I.
- 53:22Speaker 2: The cap is crap.
- 53:22Speaker 8: The cap is crap.
- 53:23Speaker 4: But cash is not. And I've been very consistent with that.
- 53:26Speaker 6: Right.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Do you ever get a bill for $ 25, 000?
- 53:27Speaker 4: More goes out every month than comes in. I can't
- 53:30Speaker 4: afford a new car.
- 53:32Speaker 9: Cars are too expensive right now.
- 53:34Speaker 4: You're dying a slow death. It's not a want to.
- 53:38Speaker 4: It's a can't.
- 53:38Speaker 9: Someone was selling for sale. No, not even new cars.
- 53:42Speaker 9: Old cars.
- 53:43Speaker 11: I saw a piece of crap old Buick that must
- 53:46Speaker 11: have been 25 years old in someone's lawn with a
- 53:49Speaker 11: for sale sign for four grand.
- 53:52Speaker 4: And I'm going to do that.
- 53:53Speaker 9: The car is no longer there.
- 53:54Speaker 4: So I can just have another problem.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Someone bought that car. The car is like never recovered
- 54:01Speaker 3: from COVID. Like all the supply chain, like stoppages during
- 54:05Speaker 3: COVID made all the new car payments go way up.
- 54:09Speaker 3: And because they got people to actually pay that, they
- 54:11Speaker 3: just never went back to normal.
- 54:12Speaker 8: Right.
- 54:13Speaker 3: So, like, that's really what's happening.
- 54:15Speaker 2: There's a reckoning coming.
- 54:17Speaker 4: It's horrible.
- 54:17Speaker 3: Like, the same car in, like, 2019 that costs, like,
- 54:21Speaker 3: $ 350 a month is now, like, $ 600 a month.
- 54:25Speaker 4: I can't do that.
- 54:26Speaker 3: And it makes no sense. Well, we wouldn't get you
- 54:28Speaker 3: a brand-new car, Paul.
- 54:29Speaker 9: My Toyota was a year old when COVID hit.
- 54:32Speaker 11: Within months of the pandemic hitting, they were trying to
- 54:34Speaker 11: buy it off me, and I would have made, like.
- 54:36Speaker 7: A $ 5, 000 profit.
- 54:36Speaker 10: Wow.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Yeah, COVID, the supply chain, especially the chips that they
- 54:41Speaker 3: use in the computers for the CarPlay and stuff like that,
- 54:44Speaker 3: they were really short on those, and that's why the
- 54:47Speaker 3: car inventory was so low. And so the prices went up,
- 54:50Speaker 3: and then they just never recovered after that.
- 54:54Speaker 9: And you can't just make more chips.
- 54:56Speaker 3: It was a chip epidemic. They didn't have any.
- 55:00Speaker 8: Dan in North Attleboro, the best moment between Paul and
- 55:03Speaker 8: Troy already happened. this most recent postgame show, it was
- 55:07Speaker 8: simply when Paul was describing a play in the game
- 55:09Speaker 8: in which he included the ball-knower term in phase immediately
- 55:13Speaker 8: after Paul looked at Troy and went, did I use
- 55:15Speaker 8: that right?
- 55:16Speaker 4: That was intentional.
- 55:18Speaker 3: He usually does that with me, so now I feel
- 55:20Speaker 3: a little bit upset about that.
- 55:23Speaker 4: I do, dude.
- 55:24Speaker 2: I'm going to bring this up again.
- 55:25Speaker 6: We were doing the pregame show and Troy brought up
- 55:27Speaker 6: something that I didn't hear anywhere else, which was how
- 55:29Speaker 6: many of Romeo Dobbs' teammates went around him after he
- 55:32Speaker 6: dropped that pass in the opener, and It was something
- 55:35Speaker 6: that didn't even occur to me, and that was something
- 55:36Speaker 6: that really stood out to him.
- 55:39Speaker 2: An interesting point. All right.
- 55:42Speaker 8: Time for a break. When we come back, will everybody
- 55:46Speaker 8: be here?
- 55:47Speaker 3: I will not, but it's not because I'm not doing well.
- 55:49Speaker 3: It's because I've got to go to the press conference.
- 55:52Speaker 2: We'll be back, and of course, last segment of the show,
- 55:54Speaker 2: we'll be doing our picks. We'll be right back after this.

- 58:25Speaker 11: You're the best road team in the NFL.
- 58:30Speaker 2: What do you see as the keys to coming away
- 58:33Speaker 2: from Jacksonville with a win?
- 58:35Speaker 15: Well, I think some of the stuff that we learned
- 58:38Speaker 15: in Seattle. Obviously, being able to handle the environment, not
- 58:42Speaker 15: putting yourself in long yardage situations, being that third and long,
- 58:46Speaker 15: I don't think they've given one of those.
- 58:48Speaker 10: Up in a while. Their defense is excellent.
- 58:51Speaker 15: You've got to take care of the football. You've got
- 58:54Speaker 15: to hit some return. You've got to be able to
- 58:56Speaker 15: find some X plays in the kicking game and then
- 58:59Speaker 15: take advantage of your opportunities, your scoring opportunities, but certainly
- 59:02Speaker 15: take care of the football.
- 59:04Speaker 4: Every team strives for consistency over your history as a coach.
- 59:08Speaker 10: Is there a formula?
- 59:09Speaker 16: Is that formula that you use over time to get
- 59:11Speaker 16: your team more consistent?
- 59:15Speaker 15: Other than just practice, I think that's the biggest way
- 59:17Speaker 15: that you can, you know, you have to be able
- 59:19Speaker 15: to build confidence throughout the week and feel good about
- 59:21Speaker 15: what you're doing and who you're doing it with and
- 59:26Speaker 15: being able to work through mistakes and come back to
- 59:33Speaker 15: next play. There's going to be mistakes and I understand
- 59:35Speaker 15: that we all strive for consistency and I think that
- 59:40Speaker 15: the more that you practice it and the more that
- 59:41Speaker 15: you can put good stuff on tape, probably the better that.
- 59:46Speaker 10: You feel as a player and a coach about it.
- 59:48Speaker 2: What stands out to you the most?
- 59:52Speaker 15: I think we've tried to You know, forced turnovers last week.
- 1:00:00Speaker 15: I thought that, you know, they've been able to get
- 1:00:03Speaker 15: off the field.
- 1:00:04Speaker 10: I mean, again, I think, you know, we're going to
- 1:00:09Speaker 10: continue to play really good offenses.
- 1:00:11Speaker 15: And so, you know, I know that every week's a
- 1:00:15Speaker 15: huge challenge. And this week is going to be, you know,
- 1:00:18Speaker 15: against an explosive team that thrives on X plays and,
- 1:00:22Speaker 15: you know, But I think that the energy level has
- 1:00:24Speaker 15: been fantastic. I think that the identity that they want
- 1:00:27Speaker 15: to try to play with and their effort and the
- 1:00:29Speaker 15: way that they run the football and all those things
- 1:00:32Speaker 15: that whether the ball gets thrown out to a receiver
- 1:00:37Speaker 15: and you've got a bunch of guys running out there
- 1:00:38Speaker 15: swarming or guys chasing, those are all really positive things.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: I should have been specific.
- 1:00:44Speaker 10: The Jacksonville defense, what stands out to you the most
- 1:00:47Speaker 10: about that? Oh, yeah. I mean, the size, playmaking ability.
- 1:00:51Speaker 15: Again, created 31 turnovers, so it's tough to run the
- 1:00:56Speaker 15: football against them. I think that they play with great
- 1:00:58Speaker 15: technique across the front. Linebackers are active. Secondaries are really
- 1:01:04Speaker 15: good tacklers, but obviously they want to create X plays
- 1:01:08Speaker 15: or tackles for loss, negative plays with the guys on
- 1:01:11Speaker 15: the edge who attack and great size and skill, power,
- 1:01:17Speaker 15: ability to It's a pass rush and all those different things.
- 1:01:22Speaker 10: It's just another day just like we had last week.
- 1:01:26Speaker 10: That's how it is. A good front. Very good front.
- 1:01:29Speaker 16: You've coached in that stadium a lot with your forward team.
- 1:01:33Speaker 16: Liam Cohen's like 8-2 there. I think they've won five
- 1:01:36Speaker 16: in a row. What about that environment, that stadium? It
- 1:01:38Speaker 16: can be difficult.
- 1:01:40Speaker 15: They play well at home. They've been getting great first-half leads.
- 1:01:45Speaker 15: I think they've been outscoring their opponents at home. in
- 1:01:48Speaker 15: that stadium by probably 10 points in the first half.
- 1:01:52Speaker 15: So that's something that really sticks out. You know, they
- 1:01:56Speaker 15: feast off turnovers. They've been creating turnovers, turning those into points.
- 1:02:02Speaker 15: And from what I could tell from Cleveland, I think
- 1:02:04Speaker 15: that there was 42,000, but, you know, they were into
- 1:02:07Speaker 15: it and they were allowed for what it was recorded
- 1:02:10Speaker 15: as from an attendance standpoint. So I think that those
- 1:02:13Speaker 15: fans are, they're football fans.
- 1:02:16Speaker 10: They crave football.
- 1:02:18Speaker 15: And, you know, just like us, if they give them
- 1:02:21Speaker 15: reasons to cheer, you know, they'll be loud.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Have you seen Trevor Lawrence ascend over the last four
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: years now in the league?
- 1:02:29Speaker 10: I think he's just much more decisive and comfortable.
- 1:02:33Speaker 15: And I think he could always count on some turnovers
- 1:02:36Speaker 15: maybe three or four years ago.
- 1:02:38Speaker 10: I don't think that's necessarily the case now.
- 1:02:40Speaker 15: He's done a really fantastic job of being able to
- 1:02:43Speaker 15: move the ball downfield, but keep it out of harm's way.
- 1:02:48Speaker 15: He's decisive when he scrambles. It's a guaranteed first down,
- 1:02:52Speaker 15: if not longer, when he decides to scramble.
- 1:02:58Speaker 10: And those aren't even the design run plays.
- 1:03:00Speaker 15: Those are drop-back passes that turn into play extensions, and
- 1:03:05Speaker 15: he's either keeping his eyes downfield and hitting somebody, or
- 1:03:07Speaker 15: he's decisive and he's willing to scramble. So you just
- 1:03:10Speaker 15: see a lot of maturity, and he's.
- 1:03:13Speaker 10: Playing at a high level.
- 1:03:14Speaker 11: Had a chance to connect with liam cohen at all
- 1:03:17Speaker 11: and just what are your impressions of what he's been
- 1:03:19Speaker 11: able to build.
- 1:03:20Speaker 15: Um i mean again you take over a team and
- 1:03:23Speaker 15: you you know again he's done a fantastic job and
- 1:03:27Speaker 15: you know i think that they have brought in a
- 1:03:31Speaker 15: new system and and offensively you know they um you
- 1:03:36Speaker 15: know are scoring you know at a really good rate
- 1:03:39Speaker 15: and i know probably last week they were probably a
- 1:03:41Speaker 15: little disappointed in some of the chances that they had
- 1:03:44Speaker 15: but Liam's.
- 1:03:45Speaker 10: An excellent football coach.
- 1:03:46Speaker 15: I've talked to him in the past, talked to him
- 1:03:49Speaker 15: about different players, whether he was in the NFL or
- 1:03:54Speaker 15: he was in college, but certainly an excellent football coach.
- 1:04:00Speaker 12: First game in Seattle where maybe there were some turnovers
- 1:04:02Speaker 12: due to over-aggressiveness for Drake. Did you feel like the
- 1:04:05Speaker 12: pendulum maybe swung too far back in the other direction?
- 1:04:07Speaker 15: No, I mean, we're, again, These are questions that I
- 1:04:12Speaker 15: would like to answer on Monday. I think I was
- 1:04:15Speaker 15: willing to do that. The focus has got to be
- 1:04:20Speaker 15: on Jacksonville and our performance.
- 1:04:21Speaker 10: And so.
- 1:04:24Speaker 15: Whether it's the pendulum, it's being decisive in everyone's play.
- 1:04:29Speaker 15: But it's certainly magnified with the quarterback. And so being decisive,
- 1:04:34Speaker 15: believing in what you see. Again, that's what we ask
- 1:04:39Speaker 15: all our players to do is prepare well. to try
- 1:04:41Speaker 15: to play fast and aggressive and make great decisions. And
- 1:04:45Speaker 15: so we could always say, man, we should have let
- 1:04:48Speaker 15: that one rip or we've.
- 1:04:50Speaker 10: Got to use a better decision.
- 1:04:53Speaker 15: Ultimately, it's his responsibility to be able to distribute the
- 1:04:57Speaker 15: football as quickly and decisively as possible in the places
- 1:05:01Speaker 15: that it's supposed to go and continue not to force
- 1:05:06Speaker 15: things and try to just create an X play on
- 1:05:10Speaker 15: every single play. Sometimes we're going to have to be
- 1:05:12Speaker 15: able to catch and run. We're going to have to
- 1:05:13Speaker 15: be able to break a tackle. And again, nobody wants
- 1:05:19Speaker 15: to force anything. We're going to have our opportunities. And
- 1:05:22Speaker 15: just because it looked one way in practice doesn't necessarily
- 1:05:25Speaker 15: guarantee that it's going to be that way in the game.
- 1:05:28Speaker 15: I think that that's for all levels of our team. Man,
- 1:05:31Speaker 15: I didn't see this look on the punt team. Well,
- 1:05:34Speaker 15: we're going to have to block them. We're going to
- 1:05:36Speaker 15: have to send the long snapper one way. We're going
- 1:05:38Speaker 15: to overload or we got whatever the look is. Just
- 1:05:42Speaker 15: because it may be an unscouted look, we have to
- 1:05:45Speaker 15: be able to go out and operate and use our
- 1:05:47Speaker 15: rules and function. Or all of a sudden they're in
- 1:05:51Speaker 15: Wildcat and maybe we didn't think they were going to
- 1:05:53Speaker 15: go Wildcat or whatever it may be. And I think
- 1:05:56Speaker 15: that that goes from Drake all the way to everybody
- 1:06:00Speaker 15: is just being prepared for just going and playing the
- 1:06:03Speaker 15: game and and trusting in yourself. I don't think Draymond
- 1:06:10Speaker 15: will do much today, but I know that he's working
- 1:06:13Speaker 15: hard to try to get back, and we'll see where
- 1:06:15Speaker 15: he is later on in the week, and I would
- 1:06:17Speaker 15: say that that would be the same for Woodson. Q
- 1:06:22Speaker 15: probably won't do much today, and I think Dell went
- 1:06:25Speaker 15: on IR this morning.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: And now, great moments in.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: History.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: One o'clock on CBS. The one and one bears are
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: at the Owen two Colts.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Indy by one.
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: Tough one.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: What's that? What's that really though, Fred? Well, they're minus
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: two then. Plus two. Well, there you go. Tells you
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: all you need to know.
- 1:06:51Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: I'm going to go Cleveland at home. No, Indy's plus one.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: They get three. So they're minus two.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: They're at home. So they get three.
- 1:06:58Speaker 8: Right. Right.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: So it's really like they're plus two.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: They should be four.
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: So if you're getting three, that means they're favored by one.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: They're not getting it.
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: They are giving points. They're favored by one.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: They didn't get the three.
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: You're welcome, everybody. If you're going to follow the nonsensical
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: three points for the home team thing, what would the
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: spread be if it was neutral?
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Don't bring me into this.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I'm so confused. Anyone plus three. Because you get three
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: points at home. You're giving, yeah, plus three.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Plus two. If it was zero?
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: I thought you get three at home.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: You get three at home. He says you get three.
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: It doesn't exist, but he insists that you get three
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: at home.
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: Oh, it's a rule.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: So they're favored by one.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: Isn't three minus three zero?
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: So that would be... Why are we minusing three?
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Because you said it was zero.
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: That would be... We've got to hurry.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: We've got to hurry.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: We've got to hurry.
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: That's another great moment from.
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: All right, it's time for the co-pilot question of the
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: week presented by Microsoft Co-Pilot, where every day is game
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: day and where every decision is powered by insight and innovation.
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: Microsoft technology helps to make decisions faster, insights sharper, and
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: strategies more adaptive. And guys, today we're talking about the
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: Jacksonville Jaguars, a little history. And let's start off a
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: little stump the grump, Paul. The Jaguars and the Patriots
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: have met 15 times. The Patriots are 12 and 3.
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: Can you name the three losses?
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: Okay, well, the one that you guys were talking about,
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: It must have been the 19th season down in Jacksonville.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: 18th season. 18th season.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: Yeah, because there was a 17 AFC championship game. So
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: the 18th season early on, they got blasted. It was
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: like 31-20.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: It was exactly 31-20.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: It was not that close. Now, does this count postseason?
- 1:08:46Speaker 14: No.
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: It does not count postseason.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: The Patriots did not lose to the Jaguars in the postseason.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: Oh, they most certainly did.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Wait, okay, sorry. Yes, you're right.
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: I get that.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Never mind.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Sorry. Matter of fact, they lost 25-10 with Scott Zolak
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: at the helm.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Down in Jacksonville.
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: 98 season.
- 1:09:03Speaker 10: You were there.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Is that the one where explosion of heart?
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: Will and heart. Yes, absolutely. Pete Carroll after the game.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: What you saw in the fourth quarter was an explosion
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: of will and heart. Wow, that's pretty good.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Because they were losing.
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: They were getting killed the whole game, and they made
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: a little rally, and they lost.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Of course, the last one I'm sure you get. That
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: was the most recent one. It was across the pond.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't tell you the score, though. I'm going
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: to guess 30, 32. 32 to 17, 16. God.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: And, but, and in that one, the Patriots did start
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: out fast.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: They were up 10, nothing, nothing.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: And then it all fell apart. It seems to be
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: a theme.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: So I just want, because it, you know, the, uh,
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: a rejoiner there kind of sparked up the whole home
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: team and what it gets. So I just punched it
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: in computer. So it comes up a it's AI. So
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: I don't know, like whatever. Um, In modern sports betting,
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: a team generally gets between 1.5 to 2.5 points added
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: to their point spread for being the home team. The
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: historic quote-unquote golden rule for sportsbooks was a standard three.
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: That blanket number is a thing of the past.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. I've said that.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: Due to easier travel logistics, advanced analytics, and better player recovery,
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: the home field edge has steadily declined.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: So we're going to go with two.
- 1:10:25Speaker 10: Two, all right.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: That's going to confuse us even more.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: Two or one and a half. Which one? Well, let
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: me just put a bow here on this Jacksonville history thing.
- 1:10:35Speaker 6: Because they did play four times in the playoffs for
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: teams that only played 15 times.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: Some notable moments.
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: I thought we gave some love last week to Stephon
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: Gilmore for his big pass breakup on DeeDee Westbrook. But
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: what a game by Danny Amendola. Maybe his best game
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: as a Patriot. Seven catches, 84 yards. That included a
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: sick touchdown catch at the end. Right, which is on
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: the back of the end zone. But a fourth and
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: one for 20 yards in the first quarter. Third and
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: 18 in the fourth quarter, he gets 21 yards and
- 1:11:01Speaker 6: then gets the TD to cut Jacksonville's lead to 20-17.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: 20-yard punt return then sets up his game-winning touchdown as well.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: I think we had a PFW cover playoff Danny.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: Well, that was Gronk. Remember, he called him Playoff Danny
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: when he was talking to Brady and Gisele after that
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: game on the call.
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: One other bit of a little bit of trivia, the
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: 2005 playoff game that they played against the Jaguars. William McGinnis,
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: four and a half sacks. Setting the record of 16
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: NFL postseason sack record.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: So I'm going to go 28-3?
- 1:11:34Speaker 10: Yes. Yeah.
- 1:11:35Speaker 8: You know, my favorite score. People talk about running up
- 1:11:39Speaker 8: the score. They were running up the sacks in that game.
- 1:11:42Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: Oh, for sure. And one of Willie's last games, obviously.
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: And then it was also Troy.
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: Brown's final playoff touchdown of his career, which he only
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: had two.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: I didn't realize that. So a little bit of trivia.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Something we can make fun of him about this week.
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: I look forward to it. So that includes Troy Brown.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: Troy Brown. Yeah.
- 1:11:59Speaker 6: Only two touchdowns in the playoffs. Kind of interesting, but obviously.
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: So it was the other one, the punt return? I
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: think the other one was the punt return. That we
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: watched last week?
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Against Pittsburgh?
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:12:08Speaker 14: Huh?
- 1:12:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: A little trivia.
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: So there you go.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: There's your.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: Co-pilot question of the week, digging a little deeper into
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: this Jags rivalry.
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: Thanks, co-pilot. 0-7 divisional round, 31-20 victory.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Now, that's a good one for Brady.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Now, that was a good game.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Yeah, Brady.
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: Actually, the Jaguars showed up to play in that game.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: That was a good game.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: But I want to say Brady was close to a
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: perfect pass.
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: He was. I want to say he was 26-28.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Finish each other's sentences, guys.
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: Losers.
- 1:12:34Speaker 9: You guys are so cute.
- 1:12:36Speaker 12: Losers.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:12:38Speaker 8: 855-PATS-500 is the hotline. Podcasts at Patriots.com is the email address.
- 1:12:45Speaker 8: Let's check out the hotline.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Hotline bling. We're going to have a new name for
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: the hotline at some point.
- 1:12:52Speaker 8: I heard there's a new name for the studio coming up,
- 1:12:55Speaker 8: but I can't say what it is yet.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: This studio?
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: Paul's Car Fund.
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Hopefully it's going to be the something something studio.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Hopefully it's the.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: Jersey Mike Studio and we can get some Jersey Mike.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: Yeah. I hear that's coming.
- 1:13:05Speaker 10: So.
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: Some signage.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: More to come there.
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: Let's get it out of the way, Fred.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: Let's go up to Maine, where Jeff is. What's up, Jeff?
- 1:13:13Speaker 12: Hey, what's going on, guys?
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 1:13:20Speaker 12: Two things. One, historical fiction. If you have not read
- 1:13:27Speaker 12: the Sharp series, you should. It's fantastic.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: What series?
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: Say that again?
- 1:13:35Speaker 12: It's... It's the Sharp series. It's basically a fictional British
- 1:13:42Speaker 12: soldier told through his perspective, but it tells stories of, like,
- 1:13:46Speaker 12: real battles and the campaign and the Napoleon.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. All good. I like that stuff. I thought
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: he said written down.
- 1:13:53Speaker 11: Sharp.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: Well, that would have been on brand for me.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: It's Sharp with an E at the end. Sharp. Okay.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: It's a British way.
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: And then in terms of actual football. I've been thinking
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: kind of about Drake's performances versus what he was like
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: last year. I think that pretty much everybody agrees that
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: he can run hot and cold, but I think two
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: of his biggest strengths are playmaking and the ability to
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: make any throw. And Instead of him being confident and
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: playing with confidence, I kind of want him to play
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: with a little bit of arrogance. It's almost like when
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: he's looking down a receiver, he's hesitating.
- 1:14:39Speaker 10: Is he open?
- 1:14:40Speaker 12: Is he really open? I want him, if it's close
- 1:14:44Speaker 12: and a guy has even an inch of separation, I
- 1:14:48Speaker 12: just want him to think, I'm that good, it's open
- 1:14:51Speaker 12: for me, and rip it. You can't make every contested throw,
- 1:14:55Speaker 12: but For me, anyway, I feel like that is when
- 1:14:58Speaker 12: I've seen him play the best. And I'll take it
- 1:15:01Speaker 12: off the air.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: Thanks, guys.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: I think that's kind of what you were talking about, Fred,
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: with our talk in the post-game show last week.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Can't find my mouth.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: You know, let him let it rip. And he hasn't.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: And I've been sort of... I had a couple of
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: people ask me if I thought he was injured, and
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: But....
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: Several people have made mention of the fact that he
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: doesn't seem to be throwing the ball at the velocity
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: that he did last year.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: Now, is that an arm velocity thing?
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: Is that just not stepping into your throws and feeling
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: confident kind of thing?
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: I think it's Fred's thing.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: I think conviction.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: Conviction in what he's seeing.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:37Speaker 8: Staying on that topic, Spee and Fresno, yesterday Evan and
- 1:15:40Speaker 8: Mike scoffed a bit at the Tom Brady clip Fred played,
- 1:15:43Speaker 8: but I think there was a key point there. It's
- 1:15:46Speaker 8: not that you need to put Brady's brain into Drake's body.
- 1:15:49Speaker 8: It's more the question of whether Drake has the processing
- 1:15:51Speaker 8: capacity to deal with a league that's clearly adjusting to him.
- 1:15:55Speaker 8: I think Josh Allen is a great example of a
- 1:15:57Speaker 8: quarterback that has done that. He's not just a collection
- 1:16:01Speaker 8: of physical traits. He had the wherewithal to improve his
- 1:16:04Speaker 8: accuracy and decision-making over his NFL career. We'll see if
- 1:16:07Speaker 8: Drake can elevate his processing well enough, but from last
- 1:16:11Speaker 8: postseason through now, Cam's fool's gold argument regarding Drake's performance
- 1:16:16Speaker 8: against an historically easy regular season schedule is knocking at
- 1:16:20Speaker 8: the door.
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: I like the comparison to Josh Allen because I think,
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: and I make fun of him for it a little bit,
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: but he's improved the things he needed to improve, but
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: he hasn't lost who he is and what makes him
- 1:16:31Speaker 6: special and great. That might put him in injury harm's
- 1:16:34Speaker 6: way a little bit more, but I just think if
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: you strip that away from him, it's the same thing
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: we're talking about, of taking away Drake's downfield aggressiveness. And,
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: you know, you have to live with Josh Allen probably
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: going to fumble, you know, a couple.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: Times when he's going to run. He's going to turn
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: the ball over sometimes, but he's going to make more plays.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: And that's what Evan was talking about. He hopes that
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: they don't take that out of him.
- 1:16:52Speaker 11: At what point did Josh Allen kind of, not to
- 1:16:55Speaker 11: say figure it out, but like.
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: Three or four seasons in? I mean, he was really good.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: Because he started off like... I remember in 21, he
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: was just blowing doors off the Patriots.
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: Well, in 20, the year that there was no fans.
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Remember what he did to the Patriots here? That was
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: the game that I almost died in the pregame show.
- 1:17:09Speaker 9: Right, right, right.
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: Yeah, that was a good one. Turning point comedy game.
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: I was a little Evan-like in the pregame show. It
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: was my one time.
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: I'm not sure the Bills had won in Gillette in
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: a while.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I mean, if they had, I don't remember.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Before then? Yeah, I don't know. Probably would have been
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: a while.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: But that's a good point.
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: That's a turning point.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Maybe it doesn't stick out as much. No fans.
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: But yeah, early in his career, he was just this
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: guy with this incredible... skill set, but didn't really look
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: like he knew how to play quarterback. And then I'd
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: say maybe the third year, you know, and a lot
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: of people credit the arrival of Stefan Diggs to sort
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: of helping a lot. I think it was more about him.
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: Not that I think Diggs is not great. I do.
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: I think he had an incredible career and he was
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: incredible when he first got to Buffalo, but I think
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: it was more of him figuring some of this out.
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: Now he still does incredibly dumb things on the field
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: josh yeah oh yeah yeah and but i think to
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: evan's point if you beat that out of him how
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: much of the plays do you lose how many of
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: those big plays that you know you're just watching you're
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: like my god like how did.
- 1:18:10Speaker 8: He do that yeah yeah do you think him coming
- 1:18:12Speaker 8: from a school like wyoming had anything to do with
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: the learning curve that he needed in the pros.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Could be Yeah, I think so.
- 1:18:20Speaker 6: I also think that he's a Brady chip on his
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: shoulder kind of a guy.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: I don't think he had any offers.
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: It was a battle for him just to get to Wyoming,
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: and I think he's always one of those guys that's
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: held on to that kind of mindset. It's inevitable Drake's
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: going to make some progress. I wonder how much different
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: it would look if A.J. Brown hadn't got hurt. I'm
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: not saying that he would be lights out, but Would that,
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: you know, would that help things at all? Did he
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: have a trust with him?
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: Well, that was the plan. so you would hope so.
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: I might be guilty of whistling past the graveyard with Drake,
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: but I am not anywhere near the point of worrying yet. Oh,
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: me neither. I mean, I think he had two subpar games.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: I'm not ignoring what we saw, but I just saw
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: too many good games last year to just say that
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: was a fluke. And in fairness, I'm a little stubborn
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: with quarterbacks. I think I recall going into the division
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: round game against Houston last year, me being a little
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: bit higher on C.J. Stroud than most everybody else at
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: that time because I was remembering what I had seen
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: his first two years and not necessarily taking into account
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: what I had seen the week before in Pittsburgh. Now,
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: I was wrong because what I saw the week before
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: in Pittsburgh, I saw again even worse here against the Patriots.
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: So I do tend to... Maybe put too much emphasis
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: on the good that you see from these guys. And
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: then you sort of just say, no, no, no, he
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: just had a bad game. He'll be back. Sometimes, you know,
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: it doesn't work out that way. It's not a straight line.
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: You know, you've got to give him some time.
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: It's not linear.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: What's up, Dan?
- 1:19:52Speaker 7: Yeah, I wasn't sure if this is car talk or
- 1:19:54Speaker 7: a history channel podcast.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: It's car talk.
- 1:19:58Speaker 10: You want to go?
- 1:19:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Generators no no i i don't.
- 1:20:02Speaker 7: Have anything i did want to talk history recent history
- 1:20:05Speaker 7: and we also been talking a little bit about obviously
- 1:20:07Speaker 7: drake and and and i i was thinking there's kind
- 1:20:11Speaker 7: of a pattern where remember last year the defense was
- 1:20:15Speaker 7: always giving up a quick score so drew uh.
- 1:20:19Speaker 12: drake was.
- 1:20:20Speaker 7: Always playing from seven down right and then he was
- 1:20:23Speaker 7: fine and then we get to the playoffs were generally
- 1:20:26Speaker 7: ahead And continuing into this season, we've been up, what,
- 1:20:30Speaker 7: 10-0 twice in a row. And I just wondered if
- 1:20:35Speaker 7: that plays any role in the psyche, playing with the
- 1:20:38Speaker 7: lead versus coming back from, you know, having to come
- 1:20:41Speaker 7: back from down, whether that, do you think that's maybe
- 1:20:45Speaker 7: playing in his.
- 1:20:45Speaker 10: Head a little?
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: I mean, it could, but, I mean, they weren't playing
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: from their head in the Super Bowl.
- 1:20:54Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: I mean, it's always right.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: I think it's the teams more. So like, I think
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: when you give up an early touchdown at Carolina or
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: Cleveland or Tennessee, it's kind of easy to just say, okay,
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: that was a blip on the radar and we're going
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: to turn this around and dominate an inferior opponent.
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: It's a little harder when they punch back to you.
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:21:14Speaker 14: All right.
- 1:21:15Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: But I mean, it is factual. What Dan said is right.
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: They did give up a lot of early touchdowns last
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: year and it, you know, they were unfazed by it.
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: They just, That's why he was off anyway.
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: Yeah, even if Drake has a great game this weekend and,
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: you know, it's still going to be a question of
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: can he come back? That'll be the next cycle of,
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: all right, he blew out a team again, we saw,
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: but when things aren't going his way, is he able
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: to salvage a win?
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: I don't know who this caller is. What's up?
- 1:21:41Speaker 10: Hey, you guys.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: Hey, you guys. Oh, if I had known. If only
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: I had known. What's going on? How are you today, Alex?
- 1:21:49Speaker 17: You know, I know the guys always go for it.
- 1:21:52Speaker 17: dump the grump, but today I have something for you
- 1:21:54Speaker 17: if you choose to participate. If not, I have a
- 1:21:57Speaker 17: crazy trade request. But this segment is called Confuse the Muse. So, gentlemen,
- 1:22:04Speaker 17: step back for a second. This is on Alex.
- 1:22:06Speaker 9: I'm a little scared.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: Let's do it. Why does somebody with so much money
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: have such a bad phone line?
- 1:22:12Speaker 17: Because the phone.
- 1:22:13Speaker 9: He lives up in the hills.
- 1:22:14Speaker 17: Is great here in Venice, California.
- 1:22:18Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:22:18Speaker 17: Okay, Alex, you ready?
- 1:22:19Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: Okay, so.
- 1:22:22Speaker 17: If a team comes out on offense and they line
- 1:22:26Speaker 17: up with two running backs, two tight ends, and one
- 1:22:33Speaker 17: wide receiver, but then they shift to a personnel package
- 1:22:39Speaker 17: with one running back, two tight ends, and two wide receivers,
- 1:22:46Speaker 17: What package did they start in and what package did
- 1:22:48Speaker 17: they shift to? And I'd like to get my trade
- 1:22:52Speaker 17: request in after this.
- 1:22:54Speaker 9: Is one of them 10 personnel?
- 1:22:57Speaker 14: No.
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: You're in the vicinity.
- 1:23:00Speaker 9: Then I got nothing for you. I'm sorry, Christian.
- 1:23:03Speaker 18: Okay, gentlemen, can you help her out?
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: I don't even remember what you said. What's the point
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: of this?
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: The first one was 22. Yeah, 22.
- 1:23:13Speaker 6: But then I don't, like, if you're in that package,
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: you don't really motion to another one.
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: You have to switch it out.
- 1:23:19Speaker 17: Just a test of football knowledge.
- 1:23:21Speaker 12: Just a game.
- 1:23:22Speaker 17: So the second one was 12 personnel.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Okay. Here's my crazy, but let's do this again.
- 1:23:28Speaker 12: Confuse the mute.
- 1:23:30Speaker 17: This is my crazy trade request. We all know that A.J.
- 1:23:34Speaker 12: Brown will not.
- 1:23:35Speaker 17: Be productive in this offense until week 11.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: It's that. No, we don't know that. We don't know that.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: So your premise... Okay.
- 1:23:43Speaker 17: So that's my premise, because it might take him a couple.
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: Of weeks to get on track. Just get to the
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: trade request.
- 1:23:48Speaker 17: Okay, here we go. Ramondre Stephens for Marvin Harrison. Following
- 1:23:54Speaker 17: Bill Belichick... Old philosophy of it's better to get rid
- 1:23:57Speaker 17: of a guy one year too soon than one year
- 1:24:00Speaker 17: too late. Marvin Harrison was a generational talent. Now he's
- 1:24:04Speaker 17: buried at four and his head's not in the game.
- 1:24:07Speaker 17: What do you guys think about that trade request?
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: I'd be interested in acquiring Marvin Harrison. I would not
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: be interested in giving up any asset whatsoever to get him.
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: I'd be willing to try to make him a reclamation
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: project and maybe see if Drake May and Mike Grable
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: and Josh McDaniels can resurrect his career. He's been a
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: nothing as an NFL player. I'm not giving up my
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: starting running back for that. But I like the idea of,
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: you know, buying low on a guy who is Christian's right.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: He was considered to be this generational talent as a
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: top five wide receiver coming out. He's never panned out.
- 1:24:42Speaker 8: And certainly Belichick did that a lot. He took former
- 1:24:45Speaker 8: first rounders and tried to reclaim them.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: But he would sign them for nothing. He would give
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: up like Bethel Johnson for Jonathan Sullivan. The old defensive
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: lineman out of Georgia. You know, like he wouldn't give
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: up anything of value for it because he would buy low.
- 1:24:59Speaker 9: And sell high.
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: I mean, I've seen some of the footage, I mean,
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: over the past few months of him in training camp
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: dropping passes and stuff.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: And I just, I mean, I wonder.
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: Do you see how disinterested he looks running routes? Yeah,
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: he looks disinterested.
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: And it seems like, you know, is it, can you
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: make the argument of like, they've had a. unstable quarterback
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: situation there. He's been through a couple coaches, you know,
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: like I think you could talk yourself into.
- 1:25:20Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: Get him with a quarterback who can throw the ball and,
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: you know. So, Randy Moss, like, looked disinterested playing for
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: the Raiders. So, you give him a fourth round pick
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: and you take him. You don't give, like, an asset
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: for it.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: So is there something out there about.
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Marvin Harrison is definitely.
- 1:25:37Speaker 8: Okay, because Franklin just wrote the same thing.
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: No, that's definitely making the rounds. Marvin Harrison and Brian Thomas,
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: the two guys that people look at.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: You know, I think with Thomas, people are like, well,
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: Jacksonville's a good team with aspirations. Arizona's probably not. And
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: I also would say that Harrison has been less effective
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: than Thomas has been. But Yeah, I'd be interested in
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: either one of those guys. Absolutely. But again, just to
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: see if there's anything there.
- 1:26:07Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: With Harrison, you know.
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: Low risk. Jack Inanaba.
- 1:26:12Speaker 8: Henceforth, the name of the hotline should be changed to
- 1:26:15Speaker 8: the Lantern Line in homage to Paul Revere's ride won
- 1:26:19Speaker 8: by land and two of by sea.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: That's a bad idea.
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: Back to the History Channel.
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: It's one if by landline, two if by mobile.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: Fred, just brilliant. He still got it. You're still Sharper's attack, bro.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: You got it. Look, he gives me the look. He
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: thinks I'm making fun of him, and I'm not. That
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: was good. That was good.
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: Were there times when you guys were trying to come
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: up with PFW cover, and Fred would just come off
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: the top rope with, like.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: Well, not all of them were good.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: Often he would come off the top rope, but generally
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: Fred and Andy... were creative snobs. And they didn't really
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: let me participate in the reindeer games because in fairness,
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: I did not come up with as many ideas as
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: they did. Andy was good at it. Fred was good
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: at it.
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: I could have been good at it if they gave
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: you a chance.
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: I occasionally came up with one, but they, like they would,
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: Fred had this look when I'd be like, what about blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: And he just, no, he just like looked down his
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: nose and I'm like, okay, all right.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: But I appreciate that.
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: I do recognize that Andy and Fred were better at
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: it than I was.
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: Pithy. Is that fair? I'll tell you who's good at it.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Is that a fair depiction? Whoever the people are at
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: the New York Post.
- 1:27:31Speaker 7: Oh.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: Professionals. Yeah, they are.
- 1:27:33Speaker 9: They're probably the best of the best.
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Like, I don't know if it's one person or
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: a team.
- 1:27:38Speaker 9: They gotta have a team, right?
- 1:27:39Speaker 8: Yeah, but they have some doozies.
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: Now, Fred usually would be willing to listen every once
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: in a while. He put his foot down, as you said.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: Sometimes they were really good. Sometimes they just didn't land.
- 1:27:52Speaker 11: What I appreciate about Fred is that he will be
- 1:27:55Speaker 11: open and hear everyone's idea. Usually his is better. And
- 1:28:00Speaker 11: that's just what's going to happen. But he'll hear you out.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: Who's that?
- 1:28:05Speaker 13: You. Me?
- 1:28:05Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: He's mellowed a little bit.
- 1:28:08Speaker 11: And I mean that as an utmost compliment because that's
- 1:28:10Speaker 11: how I like doing group projects and stuff in school.
- 1:28:14Speaker 9: Like I would always hang back and kind of listen
- 1:28:16Speaker 9: to everyone else's idea.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: It's hard.
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: Okay. Yeah.
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: I think in that setting it's hard.
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: Sometimes.
- 1:28:22Speaker 9: But, like, I just think, like, I don't know.
- 1:28:24Speaker 11: There's been times over the last five years I've worked
- 1:28:25Speaker 11: here where, like, you have an idea and it's a
- 1:28:28Speaker 11: good one and we kind of go around the table
- 1:28:30Speaker 11: and everyone throws out ridiculous things and it gets way
- 1:28:34Speaker 11: off the rails and then it gets reeled back in
- 1:28:36Speaker 11: and it's like, okay, yeah.
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: Covers were actually fun. Obviously, the team won over 80%
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: of the time. You're always coming up with something fun.
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: It was usually just the three of us. Like I said,
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: more like two of them. But I find it much
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: more difficult, Alex, in the setting that you're talking about
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: when there's like 30 of us in a meeting and
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: it's like, let's be creative. Yeah, it's hard. Sometimes you
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: have one, you're not really sure if it's going to
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: land and you don't want to embarrass yourself.
- 1:29:14Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: You know, whereas.
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: I wasn't afraid to embarrass myself with Fred and Annie
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: because they would just like make fun of me, but
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: it was just the three of us. And I knew
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: it wasn't like a personal thing.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: What about when Brian Morey was in the mix?
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: Same with Brian.
- 1:29:25Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: You know, same with Brian. That was what I was.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: Scalabino.
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: Bad kitty.
- 1:29:29Speaker 9: Eric.
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: Eric Longford.
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: When I worked in sitcom.
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: That was my favorite.
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: Like the sitcom writers were so, I was so impressed
- 1:29:35Speaker 6: with that where they're like, we need a new joke.
- 1:29:37Speaker 6: And guys would be like this, this, this, you know,
- 1:29:39Speaker 6: usually you do a brainstorm and like, I got an
- 1:29:42Speaker 6: idea and somebody's got one idea and they laid out
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: and like, the professional writers on sitcoms.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: Would be like, how about this joke? How about this joke?
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: How about that joke?
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: You know, ripping them off. But I'll tell you, I
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: don't always feel comfortable ripping one out because all of
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: a sudden it's like, that's not even funny, you know?
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: And I don't want to be that guy. It's not
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: a safe space. I'll say it to like Mike and Alex,
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: like in the bullpen, but I'm not going to say
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: it in front of 30 other people. Like, what is
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: he an idiot? How old is he?
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: Speaking of ripping one out.
- 1:30:10Speaker 8: If anyone that watches the Red Sox game, there's a
- 1:30:13Speaker 8: commercial that I love. It's like for like car insurance
- 1:30:17Speaker 8: or car warranty stuff. And at the end, this little
- 1:30:20Speaker 8: bird on the tree goes, you got ripped off. I'm
- 1:30:22Speaker 8: going to rip one too.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: And he just drops one right on the car. Have
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: you seen that?
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Have you seen that? Oh, it's great.
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: That's incredible.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: They play it like once per game. This little bird goes,
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: you got ripped off. I'm going to rip one too.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: And he just.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: He poops right on the car.
- 1:30:43Speaker 10: God, did he poop.
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: Speaking of commercials, though, frugal fannies. Frugal fannies going.
- 1:30:47Speaker 7: Out of business.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: Oh, I know.
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: I saw that on the news last night.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: R.I.P.
- 1:30:51Speaker 13: R.I.P.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: My granny crush. Frugal fanny.
- 1:30:54Speaker 9: She looks great still.
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: She does.
- 1:30:55Speaker 9: She's killing it.
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: You were just unbelievable.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: It's that time of the week.
- 1:30:59Speaker 8: Paul, what happened last week?
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: Okay, so there was a.
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: It was a.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: Pretty even week for everybody. Mike, Alex, and Paul all
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: went 10-6. Evan and Fred went 9-7. With the spread,
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: Paul went 9-7. Oh, good, Paul. Let's see.
- 1:31:19Speaker 10: Mike, 8-8.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Alex, 7-9.
- 1:31:20Speaker 10: Fred, 6-10.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: And the ball nowhere. The hind teeth.
- 1:31:22Speaker 10: 5-11.
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: Bad week for me.
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: Two weeks. Paul is still on top, 21-11, followed by
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: Alex and Fred at 19-13, Mike at 18-14, Evan at 14-18.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: And that's straight up.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: Straight up. He beat me. Paid the man his money.
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: He's good at the micro analysis.
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: How was that, Matt? Not bad?
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Not bad.
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: With the spread, the season standings, Paul at 17-15, followed
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: by Mike and Alex at 15-17, Fred at 14-18, very
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: unlike Fred to be below 500. Slow starter, though. Slow starter.
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: And Evan, 11-21. This is funny.
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: Playing the role of Mike Dussault against the spread is
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: Evan Lazar.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: That hurts.
- 1:32:27Speaker 8: All right, so let's get into it. We'll start with
- 1:32:29Speaker 8: Thursday night, which is tonight. That's, of course, on the Prime.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: Can't wait for this one.
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: Atlanta at Green Bay.
- 1:32:37Speaker 8: Atlanta 0-2, Green Bay 1-1.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: Packers by four and a half. It will be Michael
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: Penix at quarterback for the Flackens.
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Atlanta's terrible.
- 1:32:49Speaker 6: Usually I can get pretty excited to watch almost any
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: game the first few weeks of the season, just getting
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: back into football, and this is probably the first one
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: where I'm kind of like, I'll take Green Bay, and
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: I'm going to lay the points. I don't feel great
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: about it, though.
- 1:33:00Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm not completely sold on Green Bay this year,
- 1:33:03Speaker 11: but just out of uncertainty, Green Bay, Green Bay.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: Yeah, Green Bay is really, really banged up early in
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: the season. I just can't. I'm going to take the
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: Packers both ways. At home, this is their home opener
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: Thursday night. I'm going to lay the points.
- 1:33:25Speaker 8: I'm going to go Green Bay both ways as well.
- 1:33:28Speaker 8: Now we get to Sunday at 1. Highmark Stadium. It
- 1:33:34Speaker 8: is the Chargers, 0-2 against the Bills, 2-0.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: Okay, Buffalo by 7. Have you guys seen any of
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: this stuff with the Chargers? Obviously, you guys know how
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: bad they've looked. They've lost two home games to terrible teams.
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: But now they have a seven-week stretch. There's a chance
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: that their season is over. Really? I mean, I don't
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: know every one of them, but they're all.
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: The next seven are against, like, not just playoff teams
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: from last year, but good playoff teams from last year.
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: They could be looking at, like, two and seven.
- 1:34:06Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: You know, easy. That's if they play well. Buffalo by seven.
- 1:34:11Speaker 8: There are some people on the radio that, one of
- 1:34:14Speaker 8: Paul's stations, thought that the charges were the team to
- 1:34:16Speaker 8: beat in the West.
- 1:34:17Speaker 10: Sure.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: Mike McDaniel is going to read. I think a lot
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: of people thought the charges were because they, they were
- 1:34:23Speaker 4: going to, they were getting their tackles back. They had
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: Mike McDaniel. A lot of people think is a great
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: offensive coordinator. That system does not look like it fits
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: Justin Herbert at all. Um, they just look terrible.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: You got to turn it around. This is the week
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: to do a charges, please.
- 1:34:36Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: I don't think they do. I'm going to take Buffalo
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: to win.
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: Um, But I'm pretty sure Madison Beer will refuse to
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: go to Buffalo, and that's good for Justin Herbert. I'll
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: take the points for the Chargers. Back against the wall,
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: they put up a little bit of a.
- 1:34:47Speaker 9: You don't think she'll want to.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: Go and hang out with Haley? No, no.
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: Haley's a new mom.
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: She's at home.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: They're not.
- 1:34:53Speaker 9: Different lifestyles.
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: Oh, all right.
- 1:34:56Speaker 9: I like where Deuce is, like, how he's thinking now, though.
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: You can see that type of.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: Improvement in the standings. No, I love that they, like, show, like,
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: I think one of the touchdowns they showed, and then
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: they did, like, the Madison Beer cam, and she, like,
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: started standing up, like, doing, like, this.
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: I'm like, what is she doing? It's a distraction. It's
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: not Mike McDaniel.
- 1:35:13Speaker 10: It's her.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: A couple of distractions. Buffalo.
- 1:35:19Speaker 9: Buffalo. I don't love it against the spread, but whatever.
- 1:35:23Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: Normally, I would do.
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: What Deuce did, but I just, the stuff that I've
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: been reading about the Chargers, that seems to be broken.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: When is Jim Harbaugh going to get some static?
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: It's coming. It's coming. To your point, Paul, look at
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: the Seahawks, Broncos, and then Chiefs the next three weeks.
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: Can you keep going? Rams, Texans.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Stop before the Rams. That's five.
- 1:35:46Speaker 9: Oh, my God.
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: They're lucky if they're two and seven.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: Open up the rest of the schedule. The rest of
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: the schedule is loading up.
- 1:35:53Speaker 10: Sorry.
- 1:35:53Speaker 9: That's all right.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: So I'm going to take Buffalo both ways.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: Me too.
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: Sunday at one. Carolina one and one at Cleveland one
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: and one.
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: Carolina by two and a half. Home opener for the Browns.
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: Could be interesting.
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: Feel the excitement.
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: Could be interesting with Deshaun Watson, though.
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: Right? Well, a little something up. You know, I like
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: seeing what Denzel Boston did. I really liked him.
- 1:36:20Speaker 6: I didn't think he was quite the slow, big guy that,
- 1:36:23Speaker 6: you know, often those guys get lumped into being.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: Sorry, what was the spread, Pauly? The Panthers by two
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: and a half. Two and a half.
- 1:36:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I just don't think it's enough, though, with Cleveland
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: that win last week.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: I'm going to take Carolina, and I'll lay the two
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: point and a half.
- 1:36:38Speaker 9: Me too.
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: Yeah, if Deuce's Panthers are anywhere near as good as
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: he claims they are, this should be a layup. So
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: I'll take Carolina.
- 1:36:47Speaker 8: Yeah, Carolina's a plucky team. They were last year. They
- 1:36:51Speaker 8: continue to be this year. So I take them both ways.
- 1:36:55Speaker 8: Sunday at 1, the New Jersey Jets 1-1 at Detroit 1-1.
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: Lions by 6.5. So I was.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: Kind of impressed with the Jets' defense.
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: Number one defense in football. So we can just add
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: to the list of reasons why. I don't know who
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: number one is, but he impressed me.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: Cornerback. He's just feisty.
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: Sauce guard. I know.
- 1:37:19Speaker 15: He's a new number one.
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: He looked good.
- 1:37:22Speaker 6: I keep meaning to look up who it was that
- 1:37:24Speaker 6: stood out to me. So, yeah, I'm going to take
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: Detroit to win at home, but I'm going to take
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: the Jets with the points.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: I think it'll be a close one.
- 1:37:31Speaker 6: That defense will give Jared Goff some problems.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: Six and a half, you said?
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: Six and a half.
- 1:37:38Speaker 9: Ditto.
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to be the same. I don't think
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: Detroit looks very good right now. I think offensively they'll
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: probably be able to score enough to beat the Jets,
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: but their defense is nothing special.
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to do the same thing. I'll split
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: it there. Split the baby. Lions win, Jets cover.
- 1:38:00Speaker 8: Sunday at 1, the Houston Texans. Travel to Indianapolis to
- 1:38:07Speaker 8: play the Colts.
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: Both 0-2. Desperate game for both teams. And the road
- 1:38:12Speaker 4: team is favorite. A lot of road favorites this week.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: I think there are nine road favorites.
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: Houston by two and a half. Anderson did not participate
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: in practice. Will Anderson? Will Anderson.
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: Is it because of.
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:38:25Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: Well, that's good information, Fred.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: I appreciate that. Because I was kind of leaning into.
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: at home, but I think this is a tough divisional
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: game to pick. I'm going to go with the home
- 1:38:35Speaker 6: dog Indianapolis Clots, and I'll take the points.
- 1:38:39Speaker 9: One more time on the spread.
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: Houston by two and a half. And you were correct
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: in predicting, Alex, that you would ask me the second
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: time for the spread on the fifth game. Bingo.
- 1:38:48Speaker 10: Bingo.
- 1:38:50Speaker 9: I'm going to hit my quota. Houston, Houston.
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm with Alex. I think the Texans are the
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: better team. I kind of like Indianapolis a little bit,
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: but their defense is another one that's not playing very well.
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: I'll take the Texans to bounce back.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: Folks, this is your upset lock of the week. Colts win.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: Colts win outright.
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: Put the little asterisk down for the upset lock of
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: the week.
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: There you go. Yeah, me too.
- 1:39:18Speaker 8: Sunday at 1. The 2-0 Chiefs go down to Miami,
- 1:39:23Speaker 8: who are also 0-2. I mean, they're 0-2. They're not,
- 1:39:27Speaker 8: you know what I mean. One of them's 2-0.
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: One of them's 2-0.
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: Miami is getting 10.5 points at home. That's a lot
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: of points, but I don't think it's enough. Be like 12.
- 1:39:38Speaker 6: Running games, don't do it, Paul. You know, I think
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: that running game will travel. Impressive how Kenneth Walkers fit
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: in there and helped Patrick at home. So I'm going
- 1:39:47Speaker 6: to take Kansas City, and I'm going to lay all
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: 10.5 of them points.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: Chiefs, Chiefs.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: That's a lot of points.
- 1:39:56Speaker 7: It is.
- 1:39:57Speaker 8: But they get them for a reason.
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I laid the 13.5 for San Francisco, and they
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: didn't disappoint me last week. I'm going to do the same.
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: Chiefs, Chiefs.
- 1:40:04Speaker 10: Chiefs, Chiefs.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: Me too.
- 1:40:06Speaker 8: Sunday at 1, 0-2 Titans are at the New York
- 1:40:11Speaker 8: Giants without Jackson Dart.
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: Jameis Winston.
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: The Giants are favored by 3.
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: That's interesting.
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: Titans got to be smart. They were so close to
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: a big upset win against the Eagles. They got a
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: touchdown with nine seconds left.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: They got to be killing themselves. Yeah, it's a tough one.
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: I'm going to go with the Titans. I'll go with
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: the Titans, and I'll take those three points.
- 1:40:39Speaker 9: I don't see Tennessee winning a ton of games.
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: It's Jameis Winston. He's going to give you some.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: He's a playmaker for both teams. For both teams.
- 1:40:49Speaker 9: Tennessee....
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: You like Tennessee?
- 1:40:52Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: I'm going to take the Giants at home. I think
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: they rally a little bit around the situation. You get
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: that early bump, and then reality sets in when you
- 1:41:05Speaker 4: realize we're probably not going to win enough games to
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: make the playoffs without our quarterback, but I think they
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: have enough to beat the Titans.
- 1:41:10Speaker 8: My gut says the Titans, so I'm going to stick
- 1:41:12Speaker 8: that way. I was thinking in one of my commutes
- 1:41:17Speaker 8: about situation with the Giants in both these teams? How
- 1:41:20Speaker 8: much now do both these teams want to win? Because
- 1:41:24Speaker 8: if the Giants season tanks, they're going to have a
- 1:41:27Speaker 8: great draft pick. And depending on how they feel about
- 1:41:31Speaker 8: Jackson Dart long term.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: Could be just what they need. If they believe in him,
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: that draft pick's going to be really valuable. Get another
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: pass rusher. They could really, because they don't need it
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: for a quarterback.
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: Either way, to your point, you get a top five pick,
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: if you don't believe in Dart, you're in position to
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: get one, and if you do believe in Dart, you're
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: in position to hold somebody up.
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: It's hard to count on Dart, feel like you can
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: count on him after these two seasons, the number of
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: hits he's taken.
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: That's going to be an interesting thing. If The Giants
- 1:42:03Speaker 8: season keeps going downhill. But I'll take Tennessee. Sunday at 1,
- 1:42:08Speaker 8: the Bengals 2-0 at Pittsburgh 1-1.
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: Cincinnati by 3.5. All right, Freddie.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: I just hate picking Cincinnati.
- 1:42:20Speaker 15: I know.
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: I got to go with Cincinnati. I think these hits are–
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: this is when the hits start to pile up on
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: He gets a little rusty. Dexter Lawrence has been awesome
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: in the middle of their defense.
- 1:42:30Speaker 8: Really has.
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: Really changed things for him. And I think they'll shut
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: down Pittsburgh. I'll take Cincy and lay the points.
- 1:42:36Speaker 9: Bengals, Bengals.
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: So I will take the Bengals to win. I will
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: take the points. Divisional game at home. I'll take that hook.
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: I'll take Pittsburgh to cover. I think they could win
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: the game outright.
- 1:42:46Speaker 8: If I had had a better week last week, I'd
- 1:42:49Speaker 8: be picking the Steelers. But seeing as how I have
- 1:42:52Speaker 8: to make up ground, I got to pick Cincinnati. I
- 1:42:55Speaker 8: understand what Paul's saying about division game. But I think
- 1:42:57Speaker 8: the Patriots gave the rest of the league the blueprint
- 1:43:00Speaker 8: for the Steelers.
- 1:43:02Speaker 10: So.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: I thought you'd be proud of me for backing up
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: a team that the Patriots beat. You always make fun
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: of me like the next week.
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: That's true. They beat a weak team.
- 1:43:10Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: I think they did.
- 1:43:12Speaker 10: Oh.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:13Speaker 5: Oh.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: Not that that, you know.
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: Roll reversal.
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: No, I think the Steelers. I agree.
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: I don't think Pittsburgh's very good.
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: Sunday at one. A lot of Sunday at one games.
- 1:43:21Speaker 8: Seattle 2-0 at the Commanders 0-2.
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: Seattle by seven.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: Is that official, no Jaden Daniels?
- 1:43:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds like.
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: I saw, like, Kurt Warner talking about suffering the same
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: injury and played the next week.
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: I could do it.
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: I mean, in my day.
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: Just concerning, Jaden Daniels, you know, continue to get hurt.
- 1:43:42Speaker 6: It looks like Marcus Mariota, I guess, but I'm going
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: to take Seattle.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: Okay, so this is, oh, wait. And I'm going to
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: lay him. Hold on. Six and a half?
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: Seven. Seven.
- 1:43:51Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: Daniels didn't participate. We know that. Okay.
- 1:43:55Speaker 9: Seattle to win. I'm hesitant to lay the points, but
- 1:43:59Speaker 9: I will.
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to take Seattle both ways. If Jaden
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: Daniels was playing, I would definitely be taking the points,
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: but he's not. That's a big difference.
- 1:44:10Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm going to go with Seattle both ways here.
- 1:44:15Speaker 8: All right, now we skip over the Patriots at 1 o'clock,
- 1:44:18Speaker 8: and we move to Sunday at 4.05.
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: The Cardinals.
- 1:44:22Speaker 8: 1-1 at the 49ers, 2-0.
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: Niners by 8.5.
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: Do you believe San Francisco owns Arizona, if I'm not mistaken?
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: I do not know.
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: I think Arizona's actually had some sneaky good success against
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: the Niners, but I don't.
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: Have that one.
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: 38-31 all-time, San Francisco.
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: Interesting. Because San Francisco's obviously had some good teams over
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: the history of them. You know what I mean.
- 1:44:49Speaker 6: I'll take San Francisco, and I'm going to lay.
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: Eight and a half points.
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: Is that what it was?
- 1:44:55Speaker 14: Yep.
- 1:44:55Speaker 10: Niners, Niners.
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: I will take San Francisco to win, but I will
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: do what I did last week with Arizona and hopefully
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: not get burned this time. I'll take the points.
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: Me too. San Francisco wins, but they don't cover that
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: eight and a half. All right.
- 1:45:10Speaker 8: 405, 2-0 Vikings at the 0-2 Buccaneers.
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: Minnesota by one and a half.
- 1:45:17Speaker 8: Wow.
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: Yikes. Tampa Bay getting no love.
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: Baker has not been baking, to put it simply.
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: That's like three points.
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: He's doing the math.
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: I'm going to go with B-Flo and his defense against
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: Baker Mayfield, who can't seem to get out of his
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: own way in this offense, and I will lay the
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: point in half.
- 1:45:43Speaker 9: This one's agonizing.
- 1:45:44Speaker 4: Long pauses on the radio, not good.
- 1:45:46Speaker 9: Minnesota, I guess.
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: Especially when you've got to hurry.
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: You've got to hurry.
- 1:45:51Speaker 9: We have 14 minutes.
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: For two games. Yeah, I will take the Vikings as well.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: I don't think... I think the Vikings are getting a
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: little too much love, though.
- 1:46:00Speaker 9: Me too. That's why I don't love it.
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: Early on. I think the Vikings are kind of like
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: the NFC's version of Pittsburgh. Like, they find a way
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: to be like 9-8, 10-7 relevant, but not that good.
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: I think they're well coached, and they find a way
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: to win some games that maybe you don't expect. This
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: is kind of a different situation. They're going on the
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: road to play a team, and they're expected to win.
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: I'm going to take the Vikings, but I don't feel
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: great about it.
- 1:46:28Speaker 8: I predicted a good season for Baker Mayfield, so in
- 1:46:30Speaker 8: order for that to come to fruition, he's got to
- 1:46:34Speaker 8: have a good game.
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: So I'm going to pick the Buccaneers to win this game.
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: I kind of like your pick, Fred.
- 1:46:38Speaker 9: Me too.
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: All right, now.
- 1:46:40Speaker 4: It can't be that bad. The Bucs can't be as
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: bad as they've looked.
- 1:46:43Speaker 8: We go to 425 and we go to Brazil, where
- 1:46:48Speaker 8: the 1-1 Ravens are playing the 1-1 Cowboys.
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: So Baltimore's favored by three and a half.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: Baltimore. Who went out when?
- 1:46:59Speaker 4: Did you happen to see McVay the other night?
- 1:47:04Speaker 13: No.
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: Oh, with the... That's somebody a coach has to go...
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: That's what a dumbass coach doesn't know how to travel.
- 1:47:09Speaker 4: It's messed up the travel plans or something like that.
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Love the accountability.
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: Shoot.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: I'm going to take.
- 1:47:16Speaker 4: This is a tough one for me. Did you say
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: three and a half balls? Three and a half.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: Baltimore.
- 1:47:20Speaker 8: Favored.
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: I'm going to go Baltimore. I'm going to go Baltimore.
- 1:47:23Speaker 6: I'm going to go with Lamar to bounce back. But
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: I think I'm going to hedge my bet a little
- 1:47:28Speaker 6: bit and take the points for Denver.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: Baltimore. Dallas, you mean.
- 1:47:32Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:47:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: I'll take the... Denver would.
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: Never play in Brazil. They only play in Colorado.
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: They play in Colorado this week again. It's unbelievable.
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: You got that right.
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: It's unbelievable.
- 1:47:44Speaker 9: Baltimore, Dallas.
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I am a believer in the Cowboys' offense. That's
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: why that first game was so eye-opening to me, how
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: bad they played. But I'm going to take Baltimore to
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: bounce back and win, but I will take the points.
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: I'll take the hook.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: Folks... This is your second. I'm going to take Dallas
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: to win.
- 1:48:05Speaker 8: I love picking against Dallas, but I got a feeling
- 1:48:08Speaker 8: they're going to perform better in Brazil than, than Baltimore does.
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: And, uh, Baltimore could be in trouble if they don't
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: get some of that. Zay Flowers, obviously a big part
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: of the offense.
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: Sunday, 425.
- 1:48:21Speaker 8: The Raiders at 2-0 against the Saints at 1-1.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: New Orleans by three.
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: One to my three.
- 1:48:31Speaker 6: I've really been impressed with Tyler Shuck.
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: Great connection with Chris Olave.
- 1:48:36Speaker 4: I mean, that's a... Olave!
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: Olave!
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: So I'm going to go, you know, but obviously the
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: Raiders have been pretty spunky here to start. But I'm
- 1:48:44Speaker 6: going to go with the Saints at home, and I'll
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: lay the points.
- 1:48:50Speaker 9: Raiders.
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: Raiders?
- 1:48:52Speaker 9: I don't know why.
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: I don't like that.
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: I don't like that. This is an important game for
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: me for other reasons. I'm going to take the Saints.
- 1:48:59Speaker 8: Yeah, this is another TTN game for me. I'll take
- 1:49:02Speaker 8: the Saints, but they don't cover. So, we know what
- 1:49:07Speaker 8: that means, right?
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: They win by less. Thread the needle. Yeah, I think
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: we're going for it.
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: TTN, which is thread the needle. You didn't get that?
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: Thread the needle.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Put in the book.
- 1:49:18Speaker 9: Now, what does thread the needle mean?
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: Well, it's like when you've got a needle, you've got
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: a small needle. You've got to put the string right
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: through it.
- 1:49:25Speaker 8: No, when it's a close spread, but you're going to
- 1:49:28Speaker 8: hit on both. You're going to get the win right,
- 1:49:30Speaker 8: but they're going to not cover.
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: That thin margin.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: So you took the money line and got the winner,
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: and then you took the points and you threaded the needle.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: But it wasn't a wide margin, so you have to
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: thread the needle.
- 1:49:43Speaker 10: Right. You get it?
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: It's a big spread, too. Sunday.
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: I actually think you used that right.
- 1:49:48Speaker 8: Sunday night, 820... The Rams 1-1 against the Broncos 1-1
- 1:49:55Speaker 8: in Denver.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: I'm telling you. Listen, League.
- 1:49:58Speaker 8: I know every once in a while you throw in
- 1:49:59Speaker 8: the occasional road game. You're not fooling me with this
- 1:50:03Speaker 8: schedule for the Broncos.
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: Rams by 2.5.
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: Home in the AFC Championship.
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: Another road dog. I mean, road favorite.
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: Rams by 2.5.
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: It's a good game.
- 1:50:15Speaker 6: I'll look forward to watching this one, Paul, after we
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: complete our duties with our game.
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: Yeah, my guess is I'll be asleep before half.
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: Probably me too.
- 1:50:22Speaker 6: But I'll enjoy that first 20 minutes or so.
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: I'm going to take the ROMs.
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: And, yeah, it's too few points to take that.
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: I'm going to lay the points.
- 1:50:30Speaker 9: Me too.
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to take the Broncos. I just don't
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: think the Rams have looked great so far. I think
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: their personnel, they have some key guys banged up. Doesn't
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: look like Puka is going to play again. Um, so I'm,
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: I'm going to take the home team. I think that's
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: a tough place to play, especially for teams that aren't
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: used to playing there.
- 1:50:53Speaker 10: Yep.
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: Me too. I'm taking the Broncos, taking the Broncos to win.
- 1:50:58Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: Uh, Sunday night. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 1:51:01Speaker 8: Monday night. Uh, the Eagles two and oh, at the
- 1:51:05Speaker 8: bears one and one. What's going on with the bears?
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: Tyson Bajent, quarterback Eagles by four and a half.
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: Wait a minute. I thought he was hurt too. He
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: has a concussion. It's their third-string quarterback I think is playing.
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: Can you look that up?
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: Yeah, let me.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: Because that's going to definitely affect my pick.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: Let me see.
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: Double-check that one.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: Ah, there's no injury reports for either team on this one. Oh,
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: because it's Monday. All right, so it's going to be today? Yeah.
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: This afternoon?
- 1:51:35Speaker 8: I heard that they're down to their third string, and
- 1:51:38Speaker 8: it's Case Keenum is their quarterback this week.
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:51:43Speaker 6: Well, either way, I think I'm going to go with
- 1:51:45Speaker 6: Philly Philly on this one.
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: What was the start?
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: Was it 4.5?
- 1:51:51Speaker 8: 4.5.
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: Eagles by 4.5.
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll take that. I'll lay the points.
- 1:51:54Speaker 9: Philly, Philly.
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: Well, I don't know anything about this injury. I'm going
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: to take the Bears to win the game outright.
- 1:52:01Speaker 7: Really?
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they use the running game and run
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: it right down Phil Elfie's throat like they did last year.
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: Okay, Paul. I can't do that. I got to go
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: with the Eagles.
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: But I didn't... If they're down to the third quarterback,
- 1:52:14Speaker 4: that's not going to be looking good.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I heard that this morning. Case Keenum is the quarterback.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: I'll stick with it.
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: I'm committed. Take committed.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: Take committed.
- 1:52:25Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: So now we move back to Sunday at 1. The
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: 1-1 Patriots go to the 1-1 Jaguars.
- 1:52:37Speaker 4: Jacksonville by three. Three.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: Everbank Stadium.
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: CBS.
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: So I'm going to go with Patriots on this one.
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: I might be wrong, but I'm going to say Drake
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: May has a game, hits a downfield touchdown to Kyle Williams.
- 1:52:53Speaker 6: Defense makes it stand up.
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: It's not 7-0.
- 1:52:55Speaker 6: There'll be a couple other touchdowns. I'm not sure yet
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: who we're going to score those yet, Paul. But I'm
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: going to go with the Patriots. I'm going to say 23-13.
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: Good, solid win. And some buzz comes back.
- 1:53:07Speaker 12: 24-17 Patriots.
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I definitely think they're going to have a better
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: performance on offense than they've had. They're going to sort
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: of exhale a little bit on the whole Drake May.
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: Is he a sophomore slump? Is this what he is?
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: I think he'll look better. I think the offense will
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: look better. However, I think the defense is facing a
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: more difficult challenge than it has in the first two weeks,
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: and that's why I'm going to go with Jacksonville. I
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: think they have enough offensively. to be balanced, running the
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: ball with Tootin' in the three receivers that we've been
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: talking about. And I don't think I've heard very many
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: people talk about Brenton Strange. I think he's a pretty
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: good player. He's a versatile tight end. I'm going to
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: go 27-23 Jacksonville.
- 1:53:55Speaker 8: Looking at the quarterback matchup here, Lawrence only has about
- 1:53:59Speaker 8: 60 more yards total passing. Both he and May have
- 1:54:05Speaker 8: 67.3 completion rate, according to this. The difference is May
- 1:54:08Speaker 8: has one touchdown of four picks, and Lawrence has four
- 1:54:11Speaker 8: touchdowns of one pick. So that's a big difference. But
- 1:54:14Speaker 8: I don't know if these numbers are right either, because
- 1:54:17Speaker 8: they have W. Lawrence instead of T.
- 1:54:19Speaker 14: Lawrence.
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: Oh. Yeah. W.
- 1:54:21Speaker 8: Lawrence. Yeah.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: William Trevor Lawrence.
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: I wonder if that's his real name.
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: Willie Lawrence.
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: Yeah, like how Mac's name was Michael Jones.
- 1:54:31Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:54:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:54:33Speaker 9: Or Brian Hoyer's real.
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: First name is Axel. Maybe it's William Trevor or something
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: like that. I'm looking this up. There's a way to
- 1:54:40Speaker 2: do that. William Trevor Lawrence. So there you go.
- 1:54:45Speaker 8: Wow, you would think that the NFL would put T.
- 1:54:48Speaker 8: I mean, no one calls him William.
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:54:50Speaker 8: Willie.
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: I remember there was a, remember Tony Carter was a
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: fullback for the Carroll, Tony Carroll, the Pete Carroll Patriots.
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: He was always listed as A. Cotter because it was
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: Antonio was his real name. But it was always listed
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: A in the game book. It would say A. Cotter.
- 1:55:07Speaker 11: But that at least is the same name.
- 1:55:09Speaker 9: It's like a nickname for his first name. To go
- 1:55:13Speaker 9: by your.
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: Middle name more commonly. Tom Brady's got like six.
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: What was the spread again?
- 1:55:18Speaker 9: Three.
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: Jacksonville by three.
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: Jacksonville by three. Yes. Okay.
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: Well, Patriots win and they cover. Patriots 27-2. Patriots 27-21.
- 1:55:33Speaker 6: Whenever people come up with scores, I always just imagine
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: how stressed am I at the very end.
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: That's always what I think of.
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: How am I going to be feeling at the end
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: of the game? That sounds pretty stressful. Yeah.
- 1:55:43Speaker 8: I think Jacksonville is a good team. This is a
- 1:55:45Speaker 8: game that I think the Patriots can lose. But I
- 1:55:49Speaker 8: always say if it's a 50-50 game, I'm going to
- 1:55:52Speaker 8: pick the Patriots.
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: Why not? But I think this is more than.
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: Makes all the sense in the world.
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: To me... This is more than 50-50.
- 1:55:59Speaker 8: I feel comfortable about this game. Not a blowout, but
- 1:56:02Speaker 8: I feel like we're going to handle them.
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: We're going to handle them. Yeah. So 27-21.
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: I am interested to see, now that we have all
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: this time to fill because we hurried so much.
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: Four minutes.
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: I am interested to see what Zach Kor might have
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: in store for William Lawrence.
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: W.T.
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: Lawrence. What was that? Just the amount of.
- 1:56:27Speaker 6: Is that the Karate Kid's not the name?
- 1:56:28Speaker 4: The bad guy? Johnny Lawrence. Come on, Mike. He was
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: the nice one. He was the athlete. He didn't get
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: into karate.
- 1:56:34Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: I can envision a scenario that the Blitzes get home
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: and rattle Trevor Lawrence a little bit and maybe get
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: a pick or two. And that would lead you guys
- 1:56:47Speaker 4: on the right side of the ledger. I think it's
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: going to be more difficult to Blitz a more competent offense.
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: the way they have in the first two weeks, with
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: a backup and Fossil.
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: I'll say it again.
- 1:56:59Speaker 6: We've talked a lot about the wide receivers, but I
- 1:57:00Speaker 6: honestly think the engine of the offense with the tight
- 1:57:03Speaker 6: ends and the running backs and the screen game and
- 1:57:05Speaker 6: Tootin and trying to attack the Patriots who don't know
- 1:57:08Speaker 6: what's up with Daquan Jones. He added some depth in
- 1:57:10Speaker 6: the run game. Is he going to be around to play?
- 1:57:14Speaker 6: Not having Del Pettis, your extra safety. I think there's
- 1:57:17Speaker 6: some concerns on early downs with the personnel the Patriots
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: are going to be able to play. I think that
- 1:57:22Speaker 6: Jacksonville could take advantage of some of those matchups.
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: We have trouble this week. What happens next week? That's
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: a whole other thing.
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: But Jacksonville's a good team. I think a lot of people,
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: and I thought Alex said it perfectly... I think people
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: still look at Jacksonville as that 4-13 team and not
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: the 13-14 they were last year.
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: No. This would be a real good win, I think,
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: for the Patriots. They turned it around like we did.
- 1:57:46Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: Jacksonville could play terrible and give it to them.
- 1:57:48Speaker 9: They would be getting way more credit if it weren't
- 1:57:49Speaker 9: for the Patriots.
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: Or if it wasn't for their Jacksonville.
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: And didn't they? They got to the playoffs. They lost
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: to the Bills.
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: They lost to Buffalo. And they didn't just lose to Buffalo.
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: They got Josh Allen. They lost to Superman, who took
- 1:58:04Speaker 4: over the game and found the stretch. It's not like
- 1:58:08Speaker 4: they were outclassed in the game. They lost a tight game.
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: I actually took a lot away from their game last week.
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: Last year, late in the season, Jacksonville went out to
- 1:58:19Speaker 4: Denver and blew doors off. Their offense just shredded that
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: Broncos defense. I was kind of figuring Denver remembers that.
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: It's early in the season. Their defense is healthy. that
- 1:58:31Speaker 4: is going to be different, and their defense was better.
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: Jacksonville didn't light it up, but the game was a slugfest.
- 1:58:37Speaker 4: They went toe-to-toe with what I think is a pretty
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: good team, as you say, Fred, in a place that
- 1:58:43Speaker 4: they're always at home. That's where they play. I was
- 1:58:47Speaker 4: impressed with Jacksonville in a loss last week. I kind
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: of thought that Denver might lay the wood to them,
- 1:58:54Speaker 4: and that didn't happen.
- 1:58:55Speaker 6: No, I think they avoided the overt amount of critical mistakes,
- 1:58:59Speaker 6: even though they had some pressure. I mean, Denver has
- 1:59:00Speaker 6: a good defense, but I thought they hung in there,
- 1:59:02Speaker 6: and they lost the lead at the end, but at
- 1:59:05Speaker 6: Evan's point, too, he talked about some of the rolling out,
- 1:59:07Speaker 6: those kind of things. It felt like Bo Nix started
- 1:59:09Speaker 6: to find his stride a little bit, and that's.
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: Something I hope with Drake. I don't want him to
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: start slow.
- 1:59:13Speaker 6: I think that's a big one, but maybe he can
- 1:59:15Speaker 6: start to get a level of comfortability against this defense.
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: All right, that's it.
- 1:59:19Speaker 8: Enjoy the game on Sunday. If you're on the coast,
- 1:59:23Speaker 8: hunker down. Make sure you've got your generator running if
- 1:59:26Speaker 8: you've got them. And we will see you next Tuesday.
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: Thanks a lot.
