- 0:00After playing out how every individual with whatever their
- 0:05skills are can still remain humble, whether it be if they're
- 0:08very, extremely smart, they can recognize even though they feel
- 0:12like the intellect is part of their existence, part of my own
- 0:15brain, they can realize and feel.
- 0:18That's to hear from my Shim. The same is true with the
- 0:21wealth. It's even easier to see.
- 0:23And so it's true with the physical strength.
- 0:25And a person should realize that in fact, he says on 446, he said
- 0:32that Hashem likes our people specifically because we diminish
- 0:37ourselves. We do not carry ourselves in an
- 0:39arrogant way when we have success.
- 0:41Abraham Aveeno, they refer, I don't know, Quinn, they all
- 0:47refer to themselves in terms that were extremely, extremely
- 0:51low and humble, even when they were on unbelievable levels of
- 0:56positions. For example, our Bahamas on top
- 0:57of the world. And he said, no, he had part of
- 0:59the air, unlike dirt and ashes. I don't said Vinak Numa, what
- 1:03are we and WML have said, I'm like a worm.
- 1:06That's an extreme. And that's because even when
- 1:09they were great, they didn't see themselves as the source of the
- 1:11greatness. They recognized where it came
- 1:13from. Now he goes on to a whole new
- 1:14degree. So again, he's addressing the
- 1:18natural inclination to be arrogant based on the fact that
- 1:22you're blessed as he's addressing.
- 1:25Now we go, it's all on the level and this level is high.
- 1:29This level is on 447. Let's admit this point without
- 1:33feeling bored. Even if the person and the way
- 1:38he explained, by the way, is that all these greats passed had
- 1:42a degree of humility partial because they had a flaw.
- 1:45You find me the person, there's always some sort of flaws, some
- 1:49area than the second best and not the best.
- 1:51So because of that flaw that I kept on that pay.
- 1:53Then he goes on to further and says, let's say they have no
- 1:55flaws. Let's say we have a person who's
- 1:57shingly blessed and in his mind there's nothing he's missing.
- 2:01He's well off, he's very smart, he's very gifted, he's very well
- 2:05liked, he has a good name. He is rolling in every area.
- 2:09Let's just say, how are you going to keep that person at
- 2:11pay? How are we going to make them
- 2:13humble? She says actually that person in
- 2:17reality that they look at life a certain way.
- 2:19They need a perspective on this one.
- 2:21They have the right perspective. Not only can they be somewhat
- 2:25low key humble, they can even be the most humble.
- 2:29How so? By being so blessed.
- 2:31They're going to be embarrassed. I would have Shaman showering on
- 2:35them. They have a little bit of
- 2:37Bouchard. They really have this feeling
- 2:39like I don't feel like I'm worthy and I don't feel like I
- 2:42deserve it. Instead of translating
- 2:44everything that's given to us as oh, we're so we know we have so
- 2:48much and then we have to hold ourselves back from being
- 2:51arrogant. The other approach literally
- 2:54flipped the approach and that is they are borderline and shame,
- 2:59borderline embarrassed by what they have and therefore they
- 3:02carry themselves in the way. So sometimes you find people who
- 3:05are very blessed and not only are they humble, they're just
- 3:09like a regular person and you try to figure out what's their
- 3:11wiring. It's a very difficult wiring to
- 3:13develop. What is their wiring?
- 3:15It's this, it's a feeling like I don't deserve it.
- 3:19I don't have it really coming to me.
- 3:21I didn't produce it and instead I'm on the take from God and I
- 3:26need to be in appreciative mood. Let's see it together, forward.
- 3:31I feel even if the person has 0 flaws, Ella, he, Otto
- 3:37Basalabadam, the only fault that he has, if you call it a flaw,
- 3:41it is a human being. You look the Shah, he's born
- 3:45fault, you know, a child of a woman.
- 3:47Dialogue is there, that's enough with the right perspective.
- 3:51The hotel le petitudes agreed. This can cause him to see
- 3:56himself as is giving him a a fear for your person.
- 4:01Actually I told lawyer in a sick loud when he'd see to himself.
- 4:05It doesn't make sense to me to carry myself above others.
- 4:08Chiare called malaju masique, every new level that he reaches,
- 4:14every new company he opens, in every new dollar he makes, in
- 4:17every new threshold he reaches. And no, it becomes for this
- 4:23person more benefit from Hashem, more gift from God, more
- 4:28blessing from Hashem. And he translate all the bracha
- 4:31that he has as more of recognition of the fact that I'm
- 4:35taking, I'm taking, I'm taking Shiroze la Junoto.
- 4:39God wants to bless me. Imyoto mitzat TE bovahometos
- 4:43shafal Venezuela. Odd note.
- 4:47It's unbelievable. Hashem is blessing me so much
- 4:49even though I really do not feel like I'm worthy.
- 4:53My own literal makeup is completely unworthy for what I'm
- 4:58being given. And I see it that way.
- 5:00And then the more I'm given, the more I realize as literally
- 5:05something showering me down from heaven.
- 5:07And if that's the case, I don't become arrogant.
- 5:10For sure not. Instead, I actually become even
- 5:14more humble. That's a wild, you know, a wild
- 5:17perspective. Instead of thinking, oh, a
- 5:19person is blessed. He has a lot of wealth.
- 5:21He has a lot of everything going on for him.
- 5:23So he needs to figure out how to avoid arrogance.
- 5:26This guy is becoming, the more money he makes, the more humbly,
- 5:31the more well known he is. The more humbly, the more
- 5:33famous, the more successful and in the area actually creates
- 5:38more humility. This is a great approach.
- 5:40This takes work, but it's reality.
- 5:43I can't. And lo ella lo dots.
- 5:46The only thing on his mind is thank you.
- 5:49And he becomes actually more humble and more in his mind,
- 5:58more small. That's a word.
- 6:01As an approach. He thinks to himself, who am I
- 6:05just Thank you God, thank you Hashem, I'm blessed, and that's
- 6:09it came over. He doesn't have to address his
- 6:12arrogance that's coming in. He has to.
- 6:14Instead, maybe he needs to build himself up.
- 6:16He just cannot believe what's coming to him and he therefore
- 6:19becomes so humble. Is this a common perspective?
- 6:22No, it's not a common perspective because everybody
- 6:26out there is inclined to feel good about themselves.
- 6:29And because you're inclined to feel good, you'd like to use the
- 6:33natural leads and make you feel good.
- 6:36Which are those successes? And because you have those
- 6:39successes and you want to feel good about yourself, you're
- 6:43inclined to develop a degree of first confidence and self esteem
- 6:47and eventually arrogance. By using all these gifts that
- 6:51God gave us and forgetting the gift part and realizing as if
- 6:54they have them and now they create fuel to the arrogance.
- 6:59The wiring requires a small shift.
- 7:02Being OK with the fact that you're not the source of your
- 7:07success all in you is that little shift.
- 7:10You know, we often talk about the fact that character and
- 7:14belief in Hashem go hand in hand, right?
- 7:17And you say, what is character? Character is a good guy.
- 7:20Belief in Hashem is a muna. What's relationship?
- 7:24Here's the class of example. When someone has firm belief in
- 7:30the fact that his blessing is a blessing and that's it, and God
- 7:34is showering him, he therefore is able to keep himself humble.
- 7:38How so? Because he says the more I'm
- 7:41giving is literally that. And I'm being given, I'm being
- 7:44sharp for Shamayim. And if that's the case, not only
- 7:47should I not become arrogant, I should actually become more
- 7:51humble. It's an unbelievable level, but
- 7:53it's also very attainable. If you have this perspective,
- 7:56insert this mindset. Whatever blessing you have in
- 8:00your life, you know when you married off your daughter, he
- 8:02said to yourself, I deserve this.
- 8:05Marry every child. He throws this off, How'd I get
- 8:08there? Everyone does that, right?
- 8:10He graduated job from school. He said, how'd we get here?
- 8:13I was dealing with this in 4th grade and this in 7th grade.
- 8:16How did I get to this point? And he saw you say yourself,
- 8:19Hashem, Hashem is in your life and that's it.
- 8:21If that's your approach, really your approach and you're able to
- 8:25retain humility, it's not that hard now.
- 8:28As remember how do you like OK, we know what I had to leave
- 8:32here. The first thing that happens in
- 8:33the morning. You see it right And then as the
- 8:35gay goes, now you get beaten down by the world in reality and
- 8:40how do you still stay? So you know, razor sharp focus
- 8:45and that all that some Hashem. Good.
- 8:48The being part or the busting part of both?
- 8:51Both, I guess. Yes, definitely so.
- 8:53And where does freedom of choice come into this?
- 8:56Frame which also got to. I think it's a little bit more
- 8:58distant, but regarding the that first question, maybe I think, I
- 9:05think a strong element actually is if a person is not so
- 9:09dependent on things working out for him to feel good, which
- 9:14means if you're hanging little, this is my own approach.
- 9:17If you're literally hanging always on, if I made a phone
- 9:22call and it leads to something, then I'm doing well in life.
- 9:25I make a phone call and it ends up, you know, going nowhere that
- 9:29not in my life. If you're dependent, very
- 9:32dependent on how things play out to feel like a success or a
- 9:36failure, then you force yourself in your mind to forget about
- 9:40God. Why?
- 9:42Because you need that success so badly.
- 9:45You need that thing to work out so badly for yourself to feel
- 9:48good. And again, the number one
- 9:51driving force in our lives, the number one driving force for
- 9:54most of us is our feeling good. That's the number one driving
- 9:57force. And you shave everything down.
- 9:59Forget about confidence, forget about belief in Hashem.
- 10:04The number one driving force is how relevant and good do I feel?
- 10:09That's how we all are. OK, now play it out.
- 10:12If I need my successes to give me that good feel that what's
- 10:18going to happen is that my life, my day is going to be filled
- 10:22with ups and downs and none of them are going to include God
- 10:25because I'm going to go into my day.
- 10:27I'm going to step into my car, drive to work, open up the door
- 10:31of the office, make the first phone call, and now I need to
- 10:34feel good. I need to feel good.
- 10:36Things go well, it's me. Things go bad.
- 10:38I beat myself up. God is out of the picture
- 10:41because I need so barely to feel good and then wants to go down
- 10:45that track and blessing starts to come in and Hashem makes a
- 10:48few phone calls workout. You don't see I shine in the
- 10:50picture because you need to feel good.
- 10:52You're so insecure a person so insecure they're so dependent
- 10:55and because of that God is out of the picture.
- 10:58I think personally and number one way a person keeps a sham in
- 11:02the picture, which therefore leads to great humility and
- 11:07great perspective in life is real full-fledged
- 11:12self-confidence unrelated to outcomes.
- 11:16That means you walk into a wedding, no one no notices you.
- 11:19You're the same guy before an empty feel good about yourself,
- 11:22OK, the same steady guy. You go to work, things don't
- 11:25work out one day. I feel the same.
- 11:27If you keep that going, and this is really based on upbringing,
- 11:31different things and mindsets and you keep a steady level, a
- 11:35very clear balanced level of self esteem across the board.
- 11:41And you're very secure. When you're secure, you are not
- 11:44dependent on success functioning life.
- 11:47Everyone is dependent on dependent on success one way or
- 11:50another to be able to feed their family.
- 11:52But if you're dependent on success in your mind to
- 11:55function, to feel like you're worth something.
- 11:57And what ends up happening is, is that the ups and downs of
- 12:01that success become in your mind, the ups and downs of your
- 12:05own existence. And there's no room for God.
- 12:06I think this is how it works. Is that an answer?
- 12:09You finally answered it. The question was how do you hold
- 12:14and keep Hashem in your mind and allow Hashem to be in your
- 12:17mindset, the source of your success?
- 12:20And also it's supposed to be challenged.
- 12:22And I'm telling you, I believe. And you see, it feels like a
- 12:24distant point. I believe it depends on how so
- 12:28confident you are. If you're very self confident in
- 12:31life and you're able to look at successes that's coming from
- 12:35God, I don't need them to make me feel good.
- 12:38I feel good regardless. And they're very so confident in
- 12:40life and you're able to look at failures as coming from God.
- 12:43Again, I do not need them as my source.
- 12:46Failures is much, much tougher. AY.
- 12:50Because you feel like you're. I hope I hate it.
- 12:52And because it's not with you, you're not.
- 12:53Blessed. But again, much more If your
- 12:56confidence is strong, if you have a good upbringing, you do
- 12:58the mindset that says I do not fluctuate based on how the stock
- 13:04market goes. Every day is great.
- 13:06Not every day is great. So it's bad.
- 13:08It's not it's bad, it's bad. I know, but I sham will make it
- 13:10right. OK, right.
- 13:11You know you need to that. So what you need, how much it
- 13:14goes? I don't.
- 13:15Care how much you need to separate yourself and your own
- 13:18friend of mind from that outcome.
- 13:21If you are so dependent on every outcome.
- 13:23Literally, let's take a rabbi in his speech, right?
- 13:26If a rabbi is very dependent on the crowd he gets, and every
- 13:30week or every day everything depends on the crowd he gets,
- 13:33then he will not be able to function.
- 13:34It'll be up and down, up and down.
- 13:36But if you say to yourself, I am who I am, I was raised to be who
- 13:40I am, All right, that's me. And now you know you want good
- 13:44crowds, no good crowd, the same very good crowd or a very weak
- 13:48crowd. That's God's decision, not mine.
- 13:51So you remain steady and the output of the out situation to
- 13:55coming in toward you is dependent on God.
- 13:59You remain a healthy person. All that is Hashem.
- 14:02And therefore you have when it's works out, a thank you Hashem,
- 14:06and it doesn't work out. I got it, God, you remain the
- 14:09same. The outcomes are what they are
- 14:12and you do not utilize the blessing to make you arrogant or
- 14:15the failure to be Hazit instead of you the same guy.
- 14:19And that's the most important thing in person needs to be very
- 14:22strong level of self-confidence when you're raising children.
- 14:26And then throw and they have all their friends over and only two
- 14:29show up, right? And they feel broken or they
- 14:33have the thing in school and they don't really get great good
- 14:36grades for that show that they did in school or wherever it is.
- 14:39And they feel very weak. What do you tell them?
- 14:41You're a great kid regardless. And our home, we love you.
- 14:44We're not really depending on your marks, all these things,
- 14:47right? What does that mean?
- 14:48You separate who they are from what's happening in their life.
- 14:53And the same thing as you as an adult, you always need to
- 14:56separate who you are from your success and your failure.
- 14:59You cannot be up and down based on the stock market or the
- 15:04social market or how things work out of life.
- 15:06You can't, can't function that way, by the way.
- 15:09And when you do function that way, you'll become all the most
- 15:12arrogant and the most hazy person and all the time the same
- 15:16person. One of the most classic things
- 15:19to notice in life, and you see it over and over again, the most
- 15:22arrogant and the most insecure, The same individual, same guy is
- 15:25the most arrogant and secure at the same time.
- 15:27What do I mean? That means when he has success,
- 15:30he's a top of the world. When he's a failure, he's
- 15:32furious at everybody. Why are you furious?
- 15:35Life? He's furious because he's so
- 15:37insecure. It's it's the same individual.
- 15:41Why? How can the same person be so
- 15:43arrogant? I'd be so insecure.
- 15:46The answer is the little we just said, I believe, and that is
- 15:49he's dependent on outcomes. When you are dependent on
- 15:54outcomes, you do not notice yourself.
- 15:57All you notice is who you are through those outcomes.
- 16:01So if you make $1,000,000 in a season, beautiful.
- 16:04It's all me if you. If the guy loses $1,000,000,
- 16:08then also he's furious and he feels like a failure.
- 16:11You are a dependent person. What if you're not dependent?
- 16:15What if you're the same guy every day?
- 16:17The same? That means I can talk to you and
- 16:20I cannot tell our business is doing.
- 16:23Imagine being such a person. This.
- 16:25People like that and again, I'm not.
- 16:27They're rare. They're very, they were very
- 16:29constantly little kids. They're very rare today.
- 16:33You can't tell how business is doing.
- 16:35Now, again, if the guy is nervous he's going to perform on
- 16:38his table, it's going to story. But if the guy, he's just a
- 16:41matter of his ego and he still can't tell our business, though
- 16:44you know what that proves? That proves, and he figured it
- 16:47out. What did he figure out is me and
- 16:50then there's my outcomes. And they're two separate
- 16:53entities. We talk in the, you know, sadly
- 16:55in the community we discuss So and so is this and so and so is
- 16:59that. And oftentimes he was, he
- 17:02relates to money. What if you can separate the
- 17:04people? Imagine you can separate the
- 17:06people. Sure, you want to be able to
- 17:07support your family. That's a significant thing.
- 17:10You want to be a generous person.
- 17:11But imagine if you could have a conversation and you would not
- 17:14know what they're worth or you would not care what they're
- 17:17worth. Imagine if everyone welcome to a
- 17:19show and they would all be greeted just the same regardless
- 17:22of their money. Imagine if any situation who you
- 17:25kids marry or you want you know what you want your kids to
- 17:28become. Money wasn't part of the
- 17:30situation. You want them to be taken care
- 17:33of, but beyond that, irrelevant. That is only viewable if you can
- 17:38separate the two. I'll give you a classic example.
- 17:41I I didn't realize this individual existed.
- 17:43I didn't know much about him, but the man who creates the tool
- 17:49right? They put out the family put out
- 17:51a book. I've read the book.
- 17:53I just heard about it from a grandson in OK, just to show how
- 18:01far this man, may you all know, he was a very unique man and he
- 18:05was out of. Great stories, he was great.
- 18:07I listened to the stories. It's a true story.
- 18:10It's in the book, so it's obviously public.
- 18:13The Hamid Zhak Rousseff Shalita, the former chief rabbi, he used
- 18:17to learn with this man's son Haruta.
- 18:20He probably made his stories and they learned one-on-one.
- 18:25So again, this man who who created situals, a very well off
- 18:30man and a very big company. And he with his son.
- 18:35I'm sure it's your payment. None of the chief rabbi, was it?
- 18:39Yeah, not yet. Chief Rabbi at the time.
- 18:41Chief Rabbi's son. How about your son?
- 18:43A big guy on the rabbi who wrote Kuya Asif.
- 18:46All right, So now they're learning together.
- 18:48This is the races learning together.
- 18:52And the rabbi asks the son, can I, you know your father's, I
- 18:57think his father's coming to Israel.
- 18:58Maybe I'm going to America. I think I'm going to America.
- 19:01Can I go visit your father? Obviously he's talking about a
- 19:04donation and his son says yes, no problem.
- 19:08Make sure don't talk about money.
- 19:12It is a very hard thing to copy. Don't talk about money.
- 19:16He. Wants it, but don't talk about
- 19:18don't. Talk about it.
- 19:18That's like, come on. That's like, you know, how many
- 19:22examples do you give up? So the guy dating a girl, we're
- 19:24not talking about marriage. You, that boy, The Who know.
- 19:29Why he's there? I don't.
- 19:30Particularly like when they want it, it gets like it makes
- 19:34something. Very chill.
- 19:36Cheap. Yeah, but it happens to be.
- 19:38And I've tried this, you know, I've tried this.
- 19:40It's very hard to do because you have one thing on your mind.
- 19:45You have one thing on your mind, and that is you need to pay
- 19:48those bills. You can't get past those bills
- 19:50and then you're going to meet the person and you can't talk
- 19:53money. OK, fine.
- 19:54So they have a meeting that's still a beautiful thing They
- 19:56have the rabbi comes and visits the the man in his office, I
- 19:59think it was. And they're talking about
- 20:01different things. And and then this man asks, Mr.
- 20:05Ted asks I have a warehouse in the Philippines.
- 20:08Or have I, I need a a rabbi for a shoe that I have in the
- 20:12Philippines. Do you have a rabbi?
- 20:14They're talking about that. Let them do money.
- 20:17And then he says I have a halakhi shoe, which is.
- 20:22Am I is my warehouse allowed to be open on Shabbat?
- 20:24Different questions and they're always let's give me into like
- 20:27you know, based on this thing you could sell so and so he said
- 20:30I don't want loopholes. I want the reality.
- 20:32If you tell me to shut down my warehouse, I'm perfectly fine.
- 20:36Tell me the halacha and he asked me real Allah questions and
- 20:40that's it. No discussion or money.
- 20:42The rabbi leaves done imagined. He's sitting and talking with an
- 20:47individual who, thank God, was extremely blessed, right?
- 20:51And no conversation of money and you got bills to pay.
- 20:54It's a very odd thing to do. All right, get a donation.
- 20:57Not as resignation. He goes back to Israel a month
- 21:01later. This is 1980s, I believe.
- 21:04A month later, he gets something that's put on his desk.
- 21:09It's a check. No name where it came from,
- 21:12$50,000. That's the number.
- 21:15OK, I have no idea what to do with this.
- 21:17A month later, ladies, a month later or so he gets another
- 21:22check, $50,000. In the span of a few months they
- 21:26got all these checks. The total was about $250,000.
- 21:30No name, nothing. That's insane.
- 21:33You will not find many people today who do that.
- 21:37Few and far between who do such a thing.
- 21:39No name. He knows he failed their wild
- 21:41figures out where he came from. I'm it's like I said, goes to
- 21:45Havaja. Chief Rabbi.
- 21:47Hey, he tells his father what's going on.
- 21:49He has his father what to do. He I don't think he cashes
- 21:50checks. He doesn't know what to do.
- 21:52How about ya? Takes out a pen, paper.
- 21:56Writes a whole letter to Miss Sitt thanking me and blessing
- 22:00him. The whole thing that mails it to
- 22:02him. OK, I'm going to talk to his
- 22:05head if it gets mail. OK, It's a letter or one liner.
- 22:09One line from Mr. Sitt. What did he say?
- 22:13What can you say on one line? What do you think?
- 22:15He says? Thank you.
- 22:16What do you think? He said?
- 22:17How'd you know not? Thinking him.
- 22:22Online why you waste your father's time that's it that's
- 22:27it. There is I have 0 interest in
- 22:30any recognition at all. Now that takes a person from a
- 22:34different wiring and part of that wiring is and we all do
- 22:38like something gives the recognition and nothing we
- 22:40should be on that approach. He's a whole different have a
- 22:42human being. But that worry is is me.
- 22:47And there's my blessing at 2 separate entities and we are all
- 22:51inclined the same way I am with my own successes.
- 22:54I'm inclined to use as a reflection of who I am the idea
- 22:58of the areas separate the two. And if you can separate the two
- 23:02and you can be the most unbelievable blessed person to
- 23:04tell you are, but at the same time, you're the same guy.
- 23:08That's who you want to be. You want to be the same guy no
- 23:10matter what. Go down life, you want people to
- 23:13talk to you and say, I remember that guy in school, he's the
- 23:14same way. But I want to be very blessed
- 23:19and it does not show in the way I act.
- 23:20That's you. I'm it's a crazy story told me
- 23:24yesterday. For our family, I have some
- 23:26friends with his son Eli, so I I grew up in the house.
- 23:29Was Eli. Eli is under David.
- 23:32Oh, OK. Yeah, and I'm telling you, I sat
- 23:37most of my childhood with the biggest goleha daughter in
- 23:41Shabbat tables, Rabbi Shah Hamatiyah from Palatyosef and
- 23:46Rabbi Atiyah's son. They used to come, they used to
- 23:49babysit us. They were living in the house.
- 23:51Rabbi Shayo and his father, the Sofia from Adeshu Muhammad, You,
- 23:57you name it. Baba Sali.
- 23:59I mean, really, it was wild. I I mean, I didn't know what I
- 24:03was with who I was sitting with at the time.
- 24:06And I used to tell my mother like there's no like shop people
- 24:09table. Yeah, but but the reality is
- 24:14this, this family just encompass Torah or what is the value is
- 24:21not what it could do for you. Like people, people get like
- 24:26that, 'cause it's going to bring them blessings.
- 24:28Yeah, not even that. No, they did it.
- 24:30Le schmat. Yeah.
- 24:31Yeah, you know. And it's a crazy thing.
- 24:33And you remain the same person. Yeah.
- 24:36You know, you remain the same person.
- 24:37There's nothing better than be who you are.
- 24:39You want you want to be very blessed.
- 24:41We all do. Good children remain.
- 24:44I was by my son and every child in the family was there for my
- 24:51family. I looked around and say
- 24:52everybody is there. Yeah, I told my wife, we're
- 24:54saying, you know, we got married for 55 years ago.
- 24:57Look, look what happened from Alan Marrins.
- 25:00Look at that. Did you ever think to you?
- 25:02Could have all of. This.
- 25:03Did you ever think of it, I mean?
- 25:06Really. That's and I don't really.
- 25:08It's only interesting and that's the perspective.
- 25:11Yeah, right. You're the right person.
- 25:12I didn't do it. That is right.
- 25:13I tried. That's awesome.
- 25:15That's right. Yeah.
- 25:17That's.
