- 0:00Exodus chapter 19 verse one, in the third month when the
- 0:06children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt
- 0:11the same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.
- 0:17So here we can see that it is a three month anniversary of their
- 0:22exodus out of bondage out of Egypt.
- 0:26And you can see here that God is about to manifest and show His
- 0:30glory, to show His power and His might unto them and to get them
- 0:36to a place of love and adoration and obedience unto all the
- 0:41things that He's rescued them from.
- 0:43He did not save them of bondage and saved them out of oppression
- 0:48just for them to come out and self destruct in the wilderness.
- 0:53Verse 2 For they were departed from Refidim and there and they
- 0:58were come to the desert of Sinai and had pitched in the
- 1:02wilderness. And there Israel camped before
- 1:05the mount. So we can see here that this
- 1:07mountain of God is going to tremble, is going to shake
- 1:11flashes of lightning and peals of Thunder, and God's going
- 1:15going to show his manifest glory to the Israelites. 3 And Moses
- 1:21went up to God, and the Lord called to him out of the
- 1:26mountain, saying, Thus shall you say to the House of Jacob, and
- 1:32tell the children of Israel, What does he want to tell them?
- 1:35Notice how he calls Israel Jacob here.
- 1:39And we know that Jacob was unrefined, and we know that
- 1:43Jacob was the deceiver and the heel catcher.
- 1:46And here in a play of words, God calls them Jacob.
- 1:50Because they sure have been acting way more like Jacob than
- 1:55Israel, the one who wrestles with God.
- 1:59For you have seen what I did to the Egyptians, how I bore you on
- 2:05eagle's wings, and brought you to myself.
- 2:09So God here is likened unto an eagle who carries them.
- 2:15And he showed them his might and his power.
- 2:18And he showed them how easy it was for him to call down lice
- 2:23and plagues and boils, and to make the water into blood, and
- 2:28to have Moses's hand be leprous and then clean again.
- 2:33How the staff was turned into a snake.
- 2:36Friends, we got to see the first born slain, and we got to see
- 2:41the Passover when the destroying Angel did not touch any of the
- 2:45houses that had the blood on the lentil.
- 2:48And here God is wanting them to call back to remembrance.
- 2:53Friends, this amazing time of their deliverance, and that is
- 2:58the same thing that you and I need to do in correlation to the
- 3:02cross of Christ. Go back and remember, break the
- 3:06bread and drink the wine and remember what Jesus did for us
- 3:10on that night when He spilled His innocent, precious blood out
- 3:15for us and covered us in the blood, so that we can stand in
- 3:19the Holy Presence of God Almighty alive.
- 3:24Now. Therefore, if you will obey my
- 3:31voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you shall be a
- 3:38peculiar treasure to me above all people, for all the earth is
- 3:44mine. So even though every single
- 3:46nation, every tongue, every people group, every continent,
- 3:51every single dialect belongs unto God Almighty, He wanted and
- 3:56wants the Jews to be the priest, to teach all of the world who
- 4:06Yahweh is everlasting the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- 4:10He wants to show the world through the Jews who He truly
- 4:17is, and it is the responsibility of the Church today to do the
- 4:26same thing. We are to teach the world who
- 4:30God is, and far be it from us to make merchandise out of God, and
- 4:35to turn his house into a den of thieves.
- 4:39We should make his house into a House of prayer, and we should
- 4:43be the ones exhibiting all the qualities of God Almighty unto a
- 4:48lost and dying and perverse world. 6 And you shall be unto
- 4:53me a Kingdom of priests, a holy nation.
- 4:58These are the words which you shall speak to the children of
- 5:01Israel. So that is our responsibility
- 5:05and our job, and God is the one who is making us into a peculiar
- 5:10nation of Kingdom of priests unto God. 7 Moses came and
- 5:17called for the elders of the people, and laid before their
- 5:21faces all these words which the Lord commanded him.
- 5:25So God reveals himself to us in Word, and it is the very word
- 5:32that you hold in your hands, friends. 8 And all the people
- 5:36answered together and said, All that the Lord has spoken we will
- 5:39do. And Moses returned the words of
- 5:43the people to the Lord. So it was a quick knee jerk
- 5:46reaction. They said, yes, whatever the
- 5:48Lord wants we shall do. Let's see how the Lord thinks
- 5:51about it. 9 And the Lord said to Moses, Lo, I come unto you in
- 5:58the thick cloud, that the people may hear, when I speak with you,
- 6:02and believe you forever. And Moses told the words of the
- 6:06people to the Lord. So they're going back and forth
- 6:09as a mediator. And Moses is hearing from the
- 6:12Lord and speaking to the people. The people are speaking unto
- 6:16Moses, and Moses is taking it to God, tending.
- 6:21The Lord said to Moses, Go to the people, sanctify them today
- 6:27and tomorrow and let them wash their clothes.
- 6:30So God's going to return on the third day.
- 6:33And that's what he did with Jesus on the third day.
- 6:36He raised him from the dead and ascended to the right hand of
- 6:40God. And that is what you need to
- 6:42understand is all of this is a pictorial.
- 6:46It's a masterpiece that God is painting for what is to come.
- 6:50All of the law shows us the need that we have for Jesus Christ
- 6:54Christ. 10 And the Lord said, Go to the people, have them wash
- 6:59their clothes, 11 and be ready against the third day.
- 7:03For the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all
- 7:07the people unto Mount Sinai. So here they're getting ready
- 7:12for this grand visitation from Yahweh, everlasting God
- 7:16Almighty, the manifest glory of God, descending and resting upon
- 7:21that holy, terrible mountain. 12 and the And they shall set
- 7:27bounds to the people around and about, saying, take heed to
- 7:31yourselves that you do not go up to the mount or touch the border
- 7:36of it. Whosoever touches the mount
- 7:38shall surely be put to death. So you need to understand that
- 7:42they were not to have hubris, and not to take it lightly, not
- 7:46to take it in vain that God's manifest presence was among
- 7:50them, not to come and think of it as a light thing, or they
- 7:54would be put to death. 13 There shall not a hand touch it,
- 8:00neither shall he neither, but he shall surely be stoned or shot
- 8:05through, whether it be beast or man that shall not live.
- 8:08When the trumpet, when the trumpet sounds longs, they shall
- 8:12come up to the mount. So this was an angelic trump.
- 8:17There was no man blowing it. This was celestial.
- 8:22God was going to blow the trumpet long and signal and sign
- 8:28to them that it was time to approach unto His holy presence.
- 8:3414 And Moses went down from the mount to the people, and
- 8:37sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes.
- 8:41So here they're consecrating themselves.
- 8:44They're getting ready for God by getting rid of any filth and
- 8:48anything that doesn't belong, and they're having the holy
- 8:51reverence to come unto a holy God. 15 And he said to the
- 8:58people, Be ready against the third day, Come not at your
- 9:02wives. So they were not to have any
- 9:04kind of intercourse. They were to solely set their
- 9:08minds and their hearts and their bodies and their psyche and
- 9:12their intellect towards God and God alone. 16 And it came to
- 9:18pass on the third day in the morning that there were thunders
- 9:21and lightnings, a thick cloud on the mount, and the voice of the
- 9:26trumpet exceeding loud, so that all the people that was in the
- 9:30camp trembled. Can you hear it, friend?
- 9:36Can you hear the trumpet blast? Do you feel the quaking of the
- 9:41ground beneath you and the flashes of lightning, this
- 9:47terrible sight and sound? 17 And Moses brought forth the
- 9:53people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the
- 9:57nether part of the mount. So they were exceedingly,
- 10:01dreadfully afraid, because this was a terrible sight of God's
- 10:09presence coming and sitting upon Mount Sinai. 18 In the Mount
- 10:16Sinai was all together smoke, because the Lord descended upon
- 10:21it in fire, and the smoke of ascended as the smoke of a
- 10:26furnace in the whole mount quaked greatly.
- 10:29So we know that God dwells in unapproachable light.
- 10:34Friends, we know that if we are to worship Him, we are to
- 10:37worship Him in spirit and truth. And we can see here that God's
- 10:45presence is a dreadful thing. 19 And when the voice of the
- 10:52trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke,
- 10:58and God answered him by a voice. So we see that God was revealing
- 11:03his manifest presence to them through all of these signs and
- 11:07wonders. And then the audible voice of
- 11:10God spoke. 20 And the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai on the top
- 11:18of the mount, and the Lord called Moses up to the top of
- 11:22the mount, and Moses went up. Can you see the scene in your
- 11:27mind? Can you see it in your
- 11:30imagination? Do you see Moses ascending up to
- 11:34speak to God? 21 And the Lord said to Moses,
- 11:38Go down, charge the people, unless they breakthrough into
- 11:44the Lord, to gaze, and many of them perish.
- 11:47So he's saying, go and warn them not to act flippantly, but to
- 11:53have reverence. And if anyone thinks that this
- 11:56is a novelty, that this is some kind of sideshow, then they will
- 12:02be sorely displeased when their life is demanded of them. 22 And
- 12:09let the priests also, which come near to the Lord, sanctify
- 12:13themselves, unless the Lord break forth upon them.
- 12:17So the priests were not to act flippantly where they were not
- 12:22to be irreverent with the holy God. 23 And Moses said unto the
- 12:27Lord, The people cannot come up to the Mount Sinai for you.
- 12:31Charges of saying, Set bounds unto the mount and sanctify it.
- 12:36So Moses is reminding God that they had set the barricade, the
- 12:40barriers up, so the people would not cross them. 24 And the Lord
- 12:46said to him, Away Get you down, and you shall come up, you and
- 12:52Aaron with you. But let not the priests and the
- 12:55people breakthrough to come up to the Lord, unless he break
- 13:00forth upon them. So he's reminding them of his
- 13:04power and his might. He's reminding them of their
- 13:08need for reverence and awesome worship unto a holy God.
- 13:15We'll end on 25 S. Moses went down to the people
- 13:19and spoke to them. I hope you've been blessed by
- 13:23this amazing chapter. We can see here that we
- 13:26desperately need the blood of Jesus Christ to cover us from
- 13:30the top of our head to the soles of our feet so that we can stand
- 13:35in the holy presence of God. There is no way that mankind
- 13:39could ever make himself right before a God of this magnitude.
- 13:46It is only by the blood of Jesus Christ that we come boldly into
- 13:51the holiest of holy places and dine and Sup with God.
- 13:56What an amazing thought. We thank God for Jesus Christ,
- 14:01we thank God for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the down
- 14:06payment that lives inside of us. Let us pray, Father, we love
- 14:12you. We thank you, God, for these
- 14:14words. We thank you for teaching us
- 14:16your ways. We thank you, God, for giving us
- 14:19all of the marching orders and helping us to know what to do
- 14:23and when to do it and how to do it.
- 14:24We say yes and Amen to all of your ways, for you are
- 14:28beautiful. You are holy and righteous.
- 14:31God, we munch and we dine and we eat sumptuously upon this
- 14:37scroll. Let it go in our mouths, sweet
- 14:41like honey, God, even though it is bitter unto our bellies.
- 14:47We love you Father, we love everything about you.
- 14:50In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
