- 2:11Speaker 1: The more I drink, the higher my eyebrows raise up.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So yeah, pay attention to Ben's eyebrows.

- 3:46Speaker 1: cool stuff. You've already got some cool stuff. And of

- 3:51Speaker 2: I think that's like the selling point one very much. Well, honestly,
- 3:54Speaker 2: just getting an extra episode a month is pretty sweet.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Extra episode when we start ads will be a free
- 4:00Speaker 1: and our little pre recording to each episode when we're
- 4:03Speaker 1: testing our mics and stuff, we a little bit of
- 4:04Speaker 1: banter going that we post that there too.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So yeah, so no it's weird shit. Yeah, okay, So
- 4:08Speaker 2: I'm going to do my joke.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Okay, do your joke.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I wasn't going to do a joke like every time,
- 4:12Speaker 2: but someone actually submitted a joke, so I'm like, I'm
- 4:15Speaker 2: not freaking do a joke again. So this is Katie
- 4:19Speaker 2: from She's from What the Psychology? Are You Ready?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Which is another podcast.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It's another podcast. It's another podcast. I think we've actually
- 4:25Speaker 2: put it. We shutted it out on our stories or
- 4:28Speaker 2: something before. But she's awesome, and the joke that she
- 4:31Speaker 2: submitted it goes. You probably know the answer, but so
- 4:37Speaker 2: just don't say we're going to give them a minute
- 4:38Speaker 2: after I read okay, okay, why did the skeleton go
- 4:42Speaker 2: to the movies alone?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Oh? I don't know. Do tell why Why.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Would they have gone to the movies alone? Because he
- 4:50Speaker 2: had nobody to go with? Oh to do?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Wow? What do you call a man with no body
- 4:58Speaker 1: and no nose?
- 5:01Speaker 3: Nobody?
- 5:01Speaker 1: No nos, nobody knows?
- 5:04Speaker 2: Oh?
- 5:06Speaker 1: Sorry, Oh my gosh.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Anyway, thanks Katie, that's cool.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That was awesome.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I like it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Do you have any other bombs you get to drop?
- 5:12Speaker 1: Of course, Halloween's coming out Halloween week. Tell us what's
- 5:16Speaker 1: what's happening the down low.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Because we've dropped it a little bit before. But anyway,
- 5:20Speaker 2: it starts next Monday, on the twenty fifth. That would
- 5:23Speaker 2: be this. I don't know this is coming out on Tuesday.
- 5:26Speaker 2: It starts on the following Monday, so the twenty fifth,
- 5:29Speaker 2: and it's literally seven days of us putting some cool
- 5:33Speaker 2: shit out.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Yeah, seven days, seven straight days, So.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 5:39Speaker 1: All epic Halloween stuff.
- 5:42Speaker 2: So and they might not be like full episodes, but
- 5:45Speaker 2: some might just be minis, just like fun little things
- 5:47Speaker 2: to help celebrate Halloween.
- 5:48Speaker 1: We're not too concerned with the length on those episodes.
- 5:51Speaker 1: It's just going to be what it is and hopefully
- 5:54Speaker 1: you guys enjoy it.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I've got some cool ones. I'm starting out with Robert
- 5:58Speaker 1: the Doll. I've dropped that set of Halloween. So that's
- 6:02Speaker 1: one of my favorite paranormal cases.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Like ever, so to someone in here is obsessed with Halloween, Yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I wonder who it is this guy right here.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you're just a tiny bit obsessed a little bit.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Okay, So are you ready for this case?
- 6:17Speaker 2: I am one hundred percent ready.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't think you are. This is this is Craig Cray. Really,
- 6:23Speaker 1: he's fucking Craig Cray. Yo.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Am I gonna like it or dislike it?
- 6:28Speaker 1: Well, you'll dislike it. I don't know if anyone should
- 6:32Speaker 1: technically like this, you know what I mean? But like
- 6:35Speaker 1: you may enjoy the story.
- 6:36Speaker 2: It's a good story, but I like a good story.
- 6:39Speaker 1: This dude is fucking twisted. He did a lot of shit, okay,
- 6:44Speaker 1: and he is known as the candy Man.
- 6:48Speaker 2: The candy Man.
- 6:49Speaker 1: The candy Man is.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Not an awqua song? But is it is the Candy
- 6:54Speaker 2: Man an aqua song.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I could be getting that wrong anyway,
- 6:58Speaker 1: carry on, sorry, and all I can think of is
- 7:01Speaker 1: cartoon heroes and Doctor Jones it was the only and
- 7:03Speaker 1: Barbie Girl. Maybe it is. Maybe it's a song. Anyways,
- 7:06Speaker 1: while you're looking it up, I'm going to start here. Okay.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So Fort Wayne, Indiana born on Christmas Eve of nineteen
- 7:13Speaker 1: thirty nine. By the way, he was the first child
- 7:16Speaker 1: of Arnold Edwin Coral and Mary Robinson. Dean Coral grew
- 7:20Speaker 1: up and became a candy man.
- 7:24Speaker 2: It's called Lollipop.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Lollipop Okay, go yeah, okay. So the home that Dean
- 7:30Speaker 1: kind of grew up in wasn't the most ideal household.
- 7:34Speaker 1: It was kind of a combative home. His parents quarreled constantly.
- 7:39Speaker 1: They were actually divorced while Coral was still an infant.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Sorry I had his last name there, well, Dean Coral
- 7:46Speaker 1: was still an infant. Yeah, and then they remarried after
- 7:51Speaker 1: World War tea war te wow, I am fucking up
- 7:54Speaker 1: royally today World War two, but Dean's father provided no
- 8:00Speaker 1: stabilizing influence, regarding his children with like thinly veiled distaste
- 8:05Speaker 1: sort of thing. It's just like whatever, They're just things mostly.
- 8:11Speaker 2: So that sounds nice, yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And he had resorts like really harsh punishments for like
- 8:15Speaker 1: the smallest things, which was like total douche move. So
- 8:19Speaker 1: so anyways, when the couple ended up separating for the
- 8:22Speaker 1: second time, This was when Dean was seven and his
- 8:26Speaker 1: youngest brother, Stanley, moved with him and his mother to Houston.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:32Speaker 1: They were left with a series of sitters, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: babysitters taken over and watching them while their mom was
- 8:37Speaker 1: working to try and support the family on their own.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Deans Dean seemed to adjust to the change, doing well
- 8:43Speaker 1: in school, described by his teachers as polite, well behaved. However,
- 8:52Speaker 1: he ended up developed sorry, just like brain farted for
- 8:54Speaker 1: a second. He ended up developing rheumatic fever, which left
- 8:58Speaker 1: him with like a heart condition, resulting in frequent absences
- 9:01Speaker 1: from school. Okay, so he seemed to welcome the change
- 9:07Speaker 1: pretty well. When his mother actually remarried to a traveling
- 9:10Speaker 1: clock salesman named Jake West, Oh fun the name or
- 9:16Speaker 1: the job.
- 9:17Speaker 2: The job. I don't know why you want to be
- 9:20Speaker 2: a traveling clock, really, I feel like that be super fun.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Go sell some clocks and watches. Yeah, and together they
- 9:26Speaker 1: ended up having a third child.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Ok.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Eventually the whole family had moved to Vedoor, Texas, where
- 9:33Speaker 1: they opened a candy making business named Pecan Price, and
- 9:38Speaker 1: soon it expanded to become their livelihood. There, Dean and
- 9:42Speaker 1: his brother Stanley began to work part time making candy,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and Dean was generous with samples, handing it out to
- 9:48Speaker 1: local kids as he sought to win new friends.
- 9:52Speaker 2: So this is a Texas case.
- 9:54Speaker 1: It is.
- 9:54Speaker 2: We've done a lot of Texas. We had in the
- 9:57Speaker 2: last few Hey, you guys.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Spawned some weird people who do some fucked up shit.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I feel like out of the last four, I think
- 10:05Speaker 2: three of them have been Texas.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Really. I did this one specifically because Candy Man and
- 10:10Speaker 1: Halloween that's what.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, because doctor Death was and then the yogurt
- 10:15Speaker 2: chop murders.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Oh shit, you're right. Yeah, we're gonna have to steer clear,
- 10:19Speaker 1: steer clean.
- 10:20Speaker 2: We'll give Texas a little break after this.
- 10:22Speaker 1: We're coming down on your heart. Okay, So Following Dean's
- 10:26Speaker 1: graduation in the summer of nineteen fifty eight, the family
- 10:29Speaker 1: moved to Houston and open shop for their candy business.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So it was rather than just like making it in
- 10:34Speaker 1: like a warehouse or whatever the situation was, they actually
- 10:37Speaker 1: at a storefront.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Now cool.
- 10:39Speaker 1: However, Dean's mother's happy new marriage began to face a
- 10:43Speaker 1: little bit of difficulties in nineteen sixty two, and then
- 10:46Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty three, the marriage fell apart and she
- 10:50Speaker 1: was once again divorced. Dang so Mary, which Dean's mom
- 10:56Speaker 1: decided that she would open her own candy business or
- 11:00Speaker 1: old candy company and made and made Dean vice president.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Which I just want to throw this out there. This
- 11:05Speaker 1: is a fucking boss move. She's either like, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 1: like fuck you in this divorce thing. I'm gonna take
- 11:12Speaker 1: over the candy monopoly. Now I'm gonna do better. It's
- 11:15Speaker 1: just like, I don't almost that a spike sort of thing,
- 11:17Speaker 1: like a big old fuck you to her ex husband.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess it's very interesting.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Actually, yeah, it's kind of like dick move, but boss
- 11:25Speaker 1: moves like you go girl all at the same time.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a combination isn't it.
- 11:28Speaker 1: It is so the same same year she opened the shop,
- 11:33Speaker 1: Though one of the employees, who was a teenage boy,
- 11:35Speaker 1: complained about Dean making sexual advances towards him. She ignored
- 11:40Speaker 1: the accusations, however, and simply just fired the boy. Okay,
- 11:45Speaker 1: now this might be key here. Maybe this shows that
- 11:49Speaker 1: she turned a blind i to her son and his
- 11:51Speaker 1: odd behaviors earlier in life. It's kind of like kind
- 11:56Speaker 1: of two things here. It could be either she loved
- 11:58Speaker 1: her son and was just blind to the thing that
- 12:00Speaker 1: he was doing, or she was in denial being like, nope,
- 12:04Speaker 1: not my son, now, my precious little boy. You know,
- 12:06Speaker 1: he would never do that except so it could be
- 12:08Speaker 1: one of those two things, whether she just didn't see
- 12:12Speaker 1: it or was in denial about it. Okay, either way,
- 12:16Speaker 1: I mean, could be telling a little bit of his
- 12:20Speaker 1: his future and how he was up his upbringing sort
- 12:23Speaker 1: of thing. I don't know, or maybe I'm just reading
- 12:25Speaker 1: too far into it. Hard to say anyways. A year later,
- 12:30Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty four, despite his heart condition, Dean was
- 12:34Speaker 1: drafted into the US military and he was assigned to
- 12:37Speaker 1: Fort Polk, Lose, Louisiana for a ten month training regiment.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I need water.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I have some deal. Oh please, it's just like a
- 12:46Speaker 2: water bottle.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Please do please do so for a ten month training
- 12:50Speaker 1: regiment while I can't talk. While there, he openly discovered
- 12:56Speaker 1: his homosexuality and had his first sexual relations. Wow, okay,
- 13:02Speaker 1: talk for a second. I gotta take a.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Step out of your pink water bottle. Yep, suits yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 2: I like it. I like it a lot.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm still in sober October, so I can't have a
- 13:12Speaker 1: beer right now. I know.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Wow, look at you, you're actually doing it amazing, Thank you,
- 13:17Speaker 2: like well done. And I'm drinking less only because I
- 13:21Speaker 2: just like you, don't I don't know. I guess I
- 13:23Speaker 2: don't tend to drink alone.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Fair fair Okay. So, ten months into his service, Dean
- 13:30Speaker 1: would be successful in an application for a quote unquote
- 13:34Speaker 1: hardship discharge after explaining that he needed to leave to
- 13:38Speaker 1: help his mom at the.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Store, the candy store, candy shop.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So he was honorably discharged, and for several more years,
- 13:46Speaker 1: Dean continued to work at the candy shop and would
- 13:48Speaker 1: continue to make advances towards male employees. He also continued
- 13:54Speaker 1: his habit of handing out extra samples to kids as
- 13:56Speaker 1: he continued his work, earning him the infamous name the candy.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Man, the candy man because he liked to give extra samples.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yeah, he'd hand out candy and he was doing he
- 14:07Speaker 1: was giving out those samples to befriend the kids. Right.
- 14:11Speaker 1: It started out when they were his age, But as
- 14:14Speaker 1: he's getting older, he's still giving out the samples to
- 14:16Speaker 1: these kids, befriending these little kids.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Is this some terrible foreshadowing?
- 14:21Speaker 3: Oh?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Fuck, yeah, oh god.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:24Speaker 1: So in the back of the business, Dean ended up
- 14:26Speaker 1: bringing in a pool table where employees and friends could
- 14:30Speaker 1: hang out. Many of the teenage boys Deaton was befriending
- 14:33Speaker 1: through the candy business didn't really have much to speak
- 14:38Speaker 1: of for a place to go, as many were runaways
- 14:40Speaker 1: or troubled youth, so it became a regular hangout. Dean
- 14:44Speaker 1: was said to be openly and obviously flirtatious with many
- 14:47Speaker 1: of the boys.
- 14:48Speaker 2: And I'm assuming they were like underage boys.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Yes, okay, to put into perspective here, we're getting into
- 14:56Speaker 1: one particular case. In nineteen sixty seven, Dean met twelve
- 15:01Speaker 1: year old David Owen Brooks through the shop and its hangout.
- 15:05Speaker 1: The two quickly became close friends. But like I said,
- 15:10Speaker 1: David's twelve and Dean at this time is twenty eight.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Okay, it's just gonna be like how old.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Is Yeah, he's almost thirty.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Interesting, okay, So that's I mean, if it was just
- 15:20Speaker 2: kind of like a big brother, like because you know,
- 15:23Speaker 2: there's that program and stuff, and you're really kind of
- 15:26Speaker 2: mentoring and just like guiding this person, but it doesn't
- 15:28Speaker 2: sound like it's well, it's that well.
- 15:31Speaker 1: The two would spend a lot of time together, doing
- 15:33Speaker 1: various things like trips and such, and through it all,
- 15:36Speaker 1: David like admired Dean, looking up to him to the
- 15:38Speaker 1: point of like considering him a substitute father. Okay, because
- 15:41Speaker 1: a lot remember a lot of these kids are you know,
- 15:43Speaker 1: trouble used and that sort of thing. So I'm sure
- 15:46Speaker 1: he didn't really have a father figure. So to David,
- 15:49Speaker 1: Dean was that father figure.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Oh okay.
- 15:52Speaker 1: However, the relationship took a bit of a darker turn
- 15:57Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty nine. Over the course of the past
- 16:00Speaker 1: two years, Dean groomed David and steadily built his trust.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Then Dean bribed and paid David to perform oral sex.
- 16:10Speaker 2: So okay, Okay, we went there.
- 16:14Speaker 1: We went there. Yeah, there are reports that this happened
- 16:18Speaker 1: multiple times, always with a bribe as means to have
- 16:22Speaker 1: David keep quiet about it. I really want to say
- 16:25Speaker 1: it as well. I didn't want to say. As I
- 16:27Speaker 1: was typing that sentence, I was like, always as a
- 16:31Speaker 1: bribe as means to keep David's mouth shut. But I
- 16:34Speaker 1: was like, no, that doesn't quite work for what he's
- 16:36Speaker 1: bribing him for.
- 16:37Speaker 2: So then.
- 16:40Speaker 1: It didn't work, so I changed it to keep quiet
- 16:42Speaker 1: about Sorry. It just that's how I was writing it,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and I'm like, no, that doesn't sound right.
- 16:50Speaker 2: These poor boys are looking up to him and he's
- 16:53Speaker 2: just like totally taken advantage definitely, and like so they're
- 16:57Speaker 2: thinking he's this awesome dude and just wants to hang
- 17:00Speaker 2: out and help them, and he's just not it has
- 17:03Speaker 2: does not have good intentions.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Yes, although he is openly flirtatious with a lot of them,
- 17:07Speaker 1: so I'm sure that a lot of them are aware
- 17:08Speaker 1: of that and they're like pretty leary of them. But
- 17:11Speaker 1: some of them maybe.
- 17:13Speaker 2: They just desperately want someone like to guide them and
- 17:17Speaker 2: beats have someone to look up to though yep.
- 17:20Speaker 1: So oh, anyways, not long after the Coral Candy Company
- 17:26Speaker 1: closed its doors, Dean moved on to get another job.
- 17:31Speaker 1: He was doing testing electrical relay systems out of Houston
- 17:34Speaker 1: Lighting and Power Company, which sounds like a pretty dope job.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'm sure you can get some good money out of that.
- 17:42Speaker 1: But in nineteen sixty nine, when David turned thirty, he
- 17:44Speaker 1: seemed to undergo a sudden shift in personality, becoming very
- 17:48Speaker 1: hyper sensitive and glum and kind of darker and sadder,
- 17:53Speaker 1: kind of sort of thing.
- 17:54Speaker 2: It's not good.
- 17:55Speaker 1: He continued to spend his time with teenage boys like David,
- 18:00Speaker 1: and he passed out free candy all around.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Oh so, even though he doesn't have this business, he's
- 18:07Speaker 2: still all about the candy.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah, he still passed out candy.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Okay, that just seems like creepy now, hey, well it's
- 18:13Speaker 2: kind of his thing, a candy man, right yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Not only that, he would also host glue and paint
- 18:20Speaker 1: sniffing parties at his apartment for these boys.
- 18:23Speaker 2: That's a thing.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Oh yeahuf huff the fumes get high. Really yeah. Okay,
- 18:29Speaker 1: Like I said, he kind of shifting his personality a
- 18:32Speaker 1: little bit darker.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, no kidding. I liked it when he was
- 18:35Speaker 2: just handing out candy when he actually had a candy
- 18:38Speaker 2: store though.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah, so now he's just tougher. He's huffing fumes handing
- 18:42Speaker 1: out candy in his apartment to kids.
- 18:45Speaker 2: That's like just creeper. Oh, like the creep radar.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Is just just going off.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Now it's like at the very top now, like it's
- 18:55Speaker 2: it's like it can't go much further. Yeah, it probably
- 18:58Speaker 2: is going to though.
- 18:59Speaker 1: All right, well let's keep going. So at the same time,
- 19:04Speaker 1: he displayed a bit more of a sadistic streak leaning
- 19:06Speaker 1: towards bondage kinks in his sexual relationships with these young
- 19:12Speaker 1: men and boys.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 1: On September twenty fifth, nineteen seventy, Dean picked up a
- 19:18Speaker 1: hitchhiker by the name of Jeffrey Conan, who was an
- 19:22Speaker 1: eighteen year old student at the University of Texas. Now,
- 19:28Speaker 1: do you have any idea where this is going?
- 19:32Speaker 2: I don't know. I think that he's I don't know,
- 19:35Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm just gonna go.
- 19:37Speaker 1: This is a classic don't go hitchhiking because Dean didn't
- 19:41Speaker 1: take Jeffrey to where he was looking to go. Yeah, Instead,
- 19:45Speaker 1: Dean abducted him and Jeffrey's body was later found on
- 19:48Speaker 1: August tenth, nineteen seventy three, buried on a nearby high
- 19:53Speaker 1: island beach in Texas.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Holy shit, Okay, I thought that maybe he would just
- 19:57Speaker 2: like have raped him or something and not had actually
- 20:00Speaker 2: killed him.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Well, he was found under a large rock and was
- 20:04Speaker 1: covered in a layer of lime, wrapped in plastic, naked
- 20:08Speaker 1: and bound hand, bound hands and feet with nylon cord,
- 20:14Speaker 1: suggesting that he had been violated. His body showed that
- 20:19Speaker 1: he had been strangled to death by hand, and a
- 20:21Speaker 1: cloth gag was in his mouth.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Oh geez.
- 20:25Speaker 1: So it was certainly a rough way to go, needless to.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Say, Yeah, I know, hitchhiking, Like I know, some people
- 20:35Speaker 2: are just they need it or whatever, right, but gosh,
- 20:38Speaker 2: it just puts you in such a dangerous position. Yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 2: it is the amount of times you hear about hit
- 20:43Speaker 2: going wrong that way.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy scary. So around the same time of
- 20:49Speaker 1: this incident with Jeffrey, in nineteen seventy David walked in
- 20:52Speaker 1: on Dean in the middle of raping two teenage boys,
- 20:57Speaker 1: Holy shit, who he had bound and strapped to a
- 21:01Speaker 1: quote unquote torture board in his bedroom. Dean somehow managed
- 21:07Speaker 1: to convince David not to say a word through years
- 21:12Speaker 1: of building the trust, or maybe because David was promised
- 21:17Speaker 1: a carr in return for his silence.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Holy car is kind of a big deal. Yeah, that's
- 21:23Speaker 2: bad though, So David accepted the terms.
- 21:27Speaker 1: He accepted the offer and kept his mouth shut. Dean
- 21:30Speaker 1: went on to continue to sexually assault the boys and
- 21:34Speaker 1: murdering them shortly after.
- 21:36Speaker 2: What like, really, yeap, holy, what's with him? Okay, what's
- 21:43Speaker 2: with them? Murdering them after? That's new level?
- 21:47Speaker 1: That's it's his thing.
- 21:50Speaker 2: This guy's nasty.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Oh he nasty.
- 21:52Speaker 2: He's a nasty malfo.
- 21:54Speaker 1: So Dean bought David a green Chevrolet Corvette just like you.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I don't even think I could accept
- 22:02Speaker 2: that gift.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Right, like morally, So you can just see how that
- 22:07Speaker 1: grooming has paid off for him over the years. That
- 22:09Speaker 1: trust he built up with David, the manipulation he had,
- 22:13Speaker 1: over the power he had.
- 22:15Speaker 2: But then, in all honesty would have been he even
- 22:17Speaker 2: been able to stop him from murdering those people too.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I mean he could fucking scream run for police or something, right, Yeah,
- 22:25Speaker 1: oh yeah, you know, I'll buy you a car, just
- 22:27Speaker 1: leave the room and don't say anything.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Okay, he probably would have got murdered himself too.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Well if he just said okay, yeah, sure, and then
- 22:33Speaker 1: walked out of the room and then fucking ran.
- 22:35Speaker 2: For police, they might have still got murdered.
- 22:39Speaker 1: They might have still got murdered.
- 22:40Speaker 2: But yeah, but that it would have stopped there.
- 22:43Speaker 1: It would have stopped there, or could have stopped there. Yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 1: and as you're about to find out, this goes a
- 22:49Speaker 1: lot farther.
- 22:49Speaker 2: It doesn't stop it. Yeah, and this guy is driving
- 22:52Speaker 2: around in his little.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Little green Corvette. Wow, So how it did continue? Dean
- 23:01Speaker 1: offered something to David, something else. He said he would
- 23:08Speaker 1: give him two hundred dollars for any boy he could
- 23:11Speaker 1: bring to Dean's apartment. No, Blue, are these boys to
- 23:15Speaker 1: my apartment? And I will give you two hundred bucks,
- 23:17Speaker 1: which is approximately fourteen hundred dollars in today's economy, like
- 23:22Speaker 1: a week?
- 23:23Speaker 2: You mean sorry, was it two hundred bucks a week?
- 23:26Speaker 2: Two hundred bucks a boy a boy? Okay? Gross? That's
- 23:30Speaker 2: like really really really really gross.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we're getting into literal trafficking. That's what this is.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Holy. For some reason, I just didn't go there at all. Yeah,
- 23:40Speaker 2: but it makes sense.
- 23:42Speaker 1: So as for those two boys that David walked in
- 23:45Speaker 1: on Dean raping and then killing, I could not find
- 23:50Speaker 1: those two boys' names, so I do not have their identity.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I don't know who they are. I cannot kind of
- 23:58Speaker 1: tell their story.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Yeah, sad.
- 24:02Speaker 1: On December thirteenth, nineteen seventy, David lewured two boys, both
- 24:07Speaker 1: fourteen years old from Spring Branch named James Glass and
- 24:12Speaker 1: Danny Yates, who were attending a religious rally held in
- 24:15Speaker 1: Houston Heights to Dean's Yorktown apartment. James was actually an
- 24:20Speaker 1: acquaintance of David and had actually previously visited Dean's place.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Once they arrived at the apartment, both James and Danny
- 24:28Speaker 1: were then tied to opposite sides of Dean's torture board,
- 24:34Speaker 1: were raped, strangled, and killed, only to be buried in
- 24:40Speaker 1: a boat shed that Dean had rented. An electrical cord
- 24:45Speaker 1: with alligator clips attached to each end was buried alongside
- 24:48Speaker 1: Danny's body and by alligator clips. That is referring to
- 24:54Speaker 1: how you jump a car. Those clips at the end
- 24:58Speaker 1: of those cables.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Cool like regretting the Halloween can be like starved for
- 25:03Speaker 2: this episode, it's really yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 1: You're good.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm great, You're sure.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well buckle up because it's a it's
- 25:15Speaker 1: a bumpy ride.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah, this is disgusting.
- 25:17Speaker 1: It's it's fucking gross. Like the researching this, I was like,
- 25:22Speaker 1: holy fuck, and I had no idea what this case
- 25:24Speaker 1: was prior to I've heard of this guy. I I've
- 25:28Speaker 1: heard that he lured boys and killed people. That was
- 25:30Speaker 1: about it. Now I know to the extent, and holy fuck.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah, are already I feel like he's it's gone on
- 25:38Speaker 2: for such a long period of time that it's just
- 25:41Speaker 2: like too much.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Oh, it's only been going on for like two years so.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Far, that's too much.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Well yeah, but I'm just saying comparatively, and well, actually comparatively,
- 25:51Speaker 1: it doesn't actually go on that long. Just a lot
- 25:55Speaker 1: happens in the time it goes on.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:00Speaker 1: So on January thirtieth, nineteen seventy one, six weeks after
- 26:05Speaker 1: the double murder of James and Danny, only six weeks,
- 26:08Speaker 1: only six weeks, David and Dean encountered two teenage brothers,
- 26:13Speaker 1: Donald and Jerry Waldrop. They're walking towards their parents' house.
- 26:18Speaker 1: The brothers had been driven to a friend's home by
- 26:21Speaker 1: their father with plans on discussing forming a bowling league,
- 26:26Speaker 1: which fucking awesome. Ye I want to join it, no kidding,
- 26:30Speaker 1: Like I want to be these guys' friends and be
- 26:32Speaker 1: on their fucking bowling team.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, I used to be in a bowling
- 26:35Speaker 2: league that was super cool.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Yeah, sure you were, so what it's cool for them
- 26:40Speaker 1: but not me, yeah exactly. Anyways, they had actually begun
- 26:46Speaker 1: walking home once they realized that their friend wasn't home. Okay,
- 26:50Speaker 1: so their dad dropped them off their friend's place. They
- 26:52Speaker 1: realized their friend wasn't home, but their dad had already left.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Now they're walking home.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Oh dang.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Ye. Both boys were lured into Dean's van and driven
- 27:02Speaker 1: to his apartment, where they were, as you guessed, raped, tortured, strangled,
- 27:10Speaker 1: and subsequently buried in the boat shed.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Jeez. Oh those like just I'm just like, you can't
- 27:17Speaker 2: stop thinking about the parents in all the situation, Yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 2: because it's really like they're just gone missing right to
- 27:25Speaker 2: the parents. I don't know if later it's found or whatever,
- 27:28Speaker 2: but it's that's well obviously, but that's sad.
- 27:33Speaker 1: And imagine like being a parent at this time with
- 27:36Speaker 1: kids that currently aren't missing. But seeing all these kids
- 27:39Speaker 1: go missing.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you just lock them in the house. You're
- 27:43Speaker 2: not allowed to leave, stay in the basement. Yeah, the
- 27:47Speaker 2: house for anything.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Right. So, between March and May of nineteen seventy one,
- 27:54Speaker 1: Dean abducted and killed three more young boys, all of
- 27:58Speaker 1: whom lived in Houston Heights, Texas. And we're all buried
- 28:03Speaker 1: towards the rear end of the rented boat shed. In
- 28:07Speaker 1: each of these abductions, David is known to have been
- 28:10Speaker 1: a participant. So it's not like he's just you know,
- 28:15Speaker 1: like idly standing by and just being a witness. It's like, no,
- 28:18Speaker 1: he's he's involved.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Now, oh, like in the assaults or just mostly still
- 28:27Speaker 2: gathering the boys.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I can't I couldn't find anything on him being involved
- 28:33Speaker 1: in rape, okay, but he is definitely involved in assaults
- 28:38Speaker 1: and murders.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Oh and he's like raking in the dough.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Yep, huh so. Fifteen year old Randall Harvey was last
- 28:48Speaker 1: seen by his family on March ninth, cycling towards Oak Forest,
- 28:53Speaker 1: where he worked part time as a gas station attendant.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Randall was abducted and taken to Dean's most recent Magnum
- 29:00Speaker 1: Road apartment, where he went through the same tortures as
- 29:03Speaker 1: the previous victim. However, this time he was killed by
- 29:06Speaker 1: a single gunshot to the head.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 29:10Speaker 1: The other two victims were thirteen year old David Hill,
- 29:13Speaker 1: a guest hillegeist I think it's hillegeist, and sixteen year
- 29:17Speaker 1: old Gregory Winkle. They were abducted and killed together on
- 29:22Speaker 1: the afternoon of May twenty ninth, nineteen seventy one.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Good lord, they're so young.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yep, they're so young. How you holding up? I don't know.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I'm fine. I'm just very fidgety. I cank you still.
- 29:40Speaker 1: That was me in the doctor death episode though, because
- 29:43Speaker 1: like You're just rattling off all this stuff and I'm
- 29:45Speaker 1: just whole, Like it's overwhelming.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a lot of victims, it is.
- 29:50Speaker 1: And it's kind of nice that I get to turn
- 29:51Speaker 1: the tables on you and present it to you now
- 29:53Speaker 1: because I get to see you figure.
- 29:54Speaker 2: It so now I'm agitated, thank you. That's just our
- 29:56Speaker 2: goal to make other person agitated.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Pretty much so as it had been the case with
- 30:02Speaker 1: the other boys, And like we kind of already touched
- 30:04Speaker 1: on the boy's parents frantically were searching for their sons. Well, yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 1: fifteen year old Elmer Wayne Henley, a lifelong friend of
- 30:13Speaker 1: the Hilligeist, which was David Hillegeist. You know, he was thirteen,
- 30:18Speaker 1: just fucking killed by Dean. Yeah, so Elmer was volunteering
- 30:23Speaker 1: and helped spread missing posters and reward posters you know,
- 30:26Speaker 1: in the area to keep keep his uh, his friend
- 30:31Speaker 1: trying to be found. And he kept reassuring you know,
- 30:33Speaker 1: his friend's parents that there maybe just an incident, that
- 30:37Speaker 1: it can be explained and it's they'll be back soon
- 30:40Speaker 1: or something like that.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Right, Oh, well, that doesn't tear open your heart. Oh.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Dean however, didn't slow down in the face of any
- 30:51Speaker 1: missing posters or to strop parents.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Doesn't give a shit.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Not a single fuck was given by this asshole. Fucking
- 31:00Speaker 1: I can't even think of a word to describe this guy,
- 31:02Speaker 1: like he's filth.
- 31:03Speaker 2: The words that I want to say, I just probably shouldn't.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Once the mics are off.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Don't want to guess. In Trouble.
- 31:12Speaker 1: On August seventeenth, nineteen seventy one, Dean and David ran across,
- 31:16Speaker 1: a seventeen year old acquaintance of David's named Ruben Watson
- 31:20Speaker 1: Hainey Haney. I think it's how it is h n
- 31:23Speaker 1: e y. He was walking home from a movie theater
- 31:26Speaker 1: in Houston. David convinced Ruben to join them for a
- 31:30Speaker 1: party that was taking place at Dean's address. It was
- 31:35Speaker 1: somewhere that he had just moved to on San Philippi
- 31:40Speaker 1: Philippe Philippe. I can't say the word. I know I'm
- 31:44Speaker 1: pronouncing it wrong. I can hear it in my head,
- 31:46Speaker 1: but I can't say it f e l I p
- 31:49Speaker 1: E street.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Oh goodness, Okay, okay, that is just so wicked and
- 31:55Speaker 2: graham and we just pronounce no or just spelled it outside,
- 31:59Speaker 2: sorry it out instead.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, we can't say words. Stay tough and hard,
- 32:05Speaker 1: that's what she said. Okay. Reuben didn't have any suspicion.
- 32:11Speaker 1: He knew David right. Well, yeah, so he thought, yeah, sure,
- 32:15Speaker 1: the party might be fun. So he agreed and he
- 32:17Speaker 1: was taking to Deans home where he was, as you
- 32:20Speaker 1: guessed it, killed by strangulation and buried in the boat shed.
- 32:25Speaker 2: So just stay home, folks like, don't go to parties
- 32:27Speaker 2: or do anything fun. Just stay home. Really don't accept
- 32:31Speaker 2: candy from strangers. Don't just stay home.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I do want to point out he does drive a
- 32:36Speaker 1: van too.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Yeah, which is so interesting. But then back then, maybe
- 32:41Speaker 2: that it didn't have that stereotype, you.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Know, well, maybe this is how Yeah, I was just
- 32:44Speaker 1: going to say, this.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Is how it this is probably how it does.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Well, No, I don't think it's this one. I think
- 32:50Speaker 1: there's many cases of vans, tinted windows, lots of space,
- 32:53Speaker 1: you can lure people.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Any Yeah, but then in free candy, yeah.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Maybe who knows lure little kids in? I mean that's
- 33:02Speaker 1: the go to, right.
- 33:02Speaker 2: That's disgusting.
- 33:04Speaker 1: It is fucking gross, disgusting. Most people can fuck off,
- 33:08Speaker 1: fuck off anyways, Okay. In September of nineteen seventy one,
- 33:13Speaker 1: Dean moved to another apartment in Houston Heights. He moves
- 33:16Speaker 1: apartments quite.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Frequently, clearly when he's getting kicked out or something.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I don't think so I couldn't find anything of him
- 33:24Speaker 1: being kicked out. He just keeps moving.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Now.
- 33:27Speaker 1: A later confession tells of two more youths who were
- 33:30Speaker 1: killed here at this apartment, one of which was kept
- 33:33Speaker 1: alive for somewhere around four days before being murdered. Brut
- 33:37Speaker 1: and the identity of these boys to this day remains unknown. Okay,
- 33:44Speaker 1: in the winter of nineteen seventy one, David introduced Elmer
- 33:48Speaker 1: Wayne Henley to Dean. Do you know who that is?
- 33:53Speaker 2: Is? Not the friend?
- 33:54Speaker 1: Elmer Wayne Henley was the little boy distributing those missing.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Posters, and David entered reduced him to Dean. Yes that
- 34:03Speaker 2: you said, Oh my gosh. Run.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Elmer was likely lured to Dean as an intended victim
- 34:10Speaker 1: Frick say. However, for whatever reason, Dean spared him and
- 34:15Speaker 1: decided he would make a good accomplice and offered him
- 34:18Speaker 1: the same two hundred dollars for any boy he could
- 34:21Speaker 1: lure to his apartment.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Okay, not knowing that Elmer was like part of a
- 34:27Speaker 2: search for one of the boys. Yep, Okay, is this
- 34:31Speaker 2: how the ends then?
- 34:32Speaker 1: Oh no, I'm hoping this is how this shit starts.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I'm thinking that Elmer is going to be a good boy.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Well, he told Elmer he was involved in quote unquote
- 34:44Speaker 1: a white slavery ring operating from Dallas, which I don't
- 34:48Speaker 1: know why, like a white slavery ring would be any
- 34:50Speaker 1: better than what he's actually fucking doing. But anyways, Yeah,
- 34:54Speaker 1: so Almer declined and ignored the offer for several months
- 34:58Speaker 1: in fact, but in nineteen seventy two he changed his
- 35:04Speaker 1: mind and accepted because he and his family were in
- 35:07Speaker 1: dire financial need a The first abduction he participated in
- 35:12Speaker 1: occurred during the time Dean resided at nine to twenty
- 35:15Speaker 1: five Schruller Street, an address he moved to in February
- 35:19Speaker 1: of nineteen seventy two. Almer and Dean picked up quote
- 35:24Speaker 1: unquote a boy at the corner of Eleventh and stud
- 35:28Speaker 1: Wood and lured him into Dean's home on the promise
- 35:32Speaker 1: of smoking some marijuana, you know that weed, the good
- 35:35Speaker 1: stuff at the apartment and they would, you know, just
- 35:40Speaker 1: chill out. So while they were there, they were playing
- 35:43Speaker 1: with some handcuffs and convinced the young boy to try
- 35:45Speaker 1: them on. Oh no, Once he did, Elmer saw Dean
- 35:50Speaker 1: bind and gag the boy. Then he left him alone
- 35:53Speaker 1: with Dean, believing he was being sold to a sexual
- 35:57Speaker 1: slavery ring. The identity of this boy remains unknown.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Okay, I'm actually really confused because is this not like
- 36:05Speaker 2: triggering Elmer to be like thinking that this could be
- 36:10Speaker 2: what happened to his friend? Maybe or he just doesn't
- 36:15Speaker 2: get a shit, or or maybe he just didn't isn't
- 36:18Speaker 2: it isn't he'sn't realizing. I don't know. I don't know.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I still feel like he's a good kid, but I
- 36:22Speaker 2: don't think he is anymore.
- 36:24Speaker 1: He might have been a good kid at one point,
- 36:28Speaker 1: but he uh, he certainly isn't anymore.
- 36:31Speaker 2: They turned him and he needed money.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Yeah. One month later, on March twenty fourth, nineteen seventy two, Elmer,
- 36:40Speaker 1: David and Dean saw an eighteen year old friend of
- 36:43Speaker 1: Elmer's named Frank. Ag You are ag You are your
- 36:48Speaker 1: a g u I are are.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Ben, No, No, we can't eg youre.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I think agre like you are egg you wire aguire.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Oh there you go. That sounds like the best option.
- 37:00Speaker 1: That sounds like the best option all the shit. Poor Frank. Fuck,
- 37:04Speaker 1: I can't even say your name.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, we're actually that yeah Ry Okay.
- 37:09Speaker 1: So anyways, Frank was leaving the restaurant on Yale Street
- 37:12Speaker 1: where he worked. He was invited over to Dean's apartment
- 37:16Speaker 1: to do some more smoke them of that Devil's let
- 37:20Speaker 1: us run, Frank and drinking some beers. So with the
- 37:25Speaker 1: trio he went along. No, well there they were actually
- 37:29Speaker 1: hanging out for a bit. You know what, This was
- 37:31Speaker 1: a legit chill set Frank and then Frank picked up
- 37:36Speaker 1: a pair of handcuffs that Dean had left on the table,
- 37:39Speaker 1: and immediately Dean pounced on Frank, slammed him into the
- 37:43Speaker 1: table shit and cuffed his hands behind his back.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Okay, I just have to say sorry. I especially hate
- 37:49Speaker 2: when it's like a friend, right, because this is he
- 37:54Speaker 2: was just like, oh, I'm just going to hang out
- 37:55Speaker 2: and he like trusts this person as their friends and
- 37:57Speaker 2: then like boom, yeah, like that just seems to times.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Worse to me, I know, very backstabby, poshit mother. Anyways,
- 38:07Speaker 1: Elmer did actually attempt to persuade Dean not to assault
- 38:10Speaker 1: his friend, but Dean refused and revealed to Elmer that
- 38:13Speaker 1: he had raped, tortured, and killed the previous victim that
- 38:18Speaker 1: he had assisted in abducting, and that he intended to
- 38:21Speaker 1: do the same with Frank. Then, after Dean was done, Elmer, Dean,
- 38:27Speaker 1: and David all helped in burying Frank's body at High
- 38:31Speaker 1: Island Beach. Here.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I was like, it's gonna turn, It's gonna turn. Almer's
- 38:35Speaker 2: a good boy. Nope, but no, he sucks and I
- 38:38Speaker 2: don't like him at all.
- 38:38Speaker 1: That's the official mark of Elmer now being a part
- 38:42Speaker 1: of this.
- 38:42Speaker 2: What a freakin' asshole.
- 38:45Speaker 1: After that, he was just an active participant in the abductions,
- 38:48Speaker 1: the murders.
- 38:49Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but how can they recruit people to this
- 38:52Speaker 2: as disgusting?
- 38:54Speaker 1: Well, it was only one month after Frank's death on
- 38:56Speaker 1: April twentieth, the three men abducted the next one. He's
- 39:00Speaker 1: seventeen year old by the name of Mark Scott. He
- 39:03Speaker 1: was grabbed by Forrest and he actually fought furiously against
- 39:06Speaker 1: the attempts to restrain him. Elmer, however, pointed a pistol
- 39:11Speaker 1: towards him, and at the sight of a gun being
- 39:14Speaker 1: pointed at him, he gave up. Well, yeah, so Mark
- 39:20Speaker 1: was tied, tortured and suffered the same fate as Frank.
- 39:27Speaker 2: But they say, even if the guns pointed at you
- 39:29Speaker 2: or something like, still just like freaking do everything you
- 39:31Speaker 2: can run and shit, right, because their aim couldn't be shit, Their.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Aim can be shit. They might not have it in them,
- 39:36Speaker 1: they might not even have any.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Be like for show. Yeah, so still keep fighting yep.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I don't know for sure, I shouldn't.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Don't take her advice, for sure, look it up. Maybe
- 39:49Speaker 1: because we're no experts.
- 39:50Speaker 2: On we're no experts, but I just feel like what
- 39:53Speaker 2: was coming to him was pretty shitty too, like really, So.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Moving on to June twenty six, two boys named Billy
- 40:02Speaker 1: Balsh and Johnny del Mo de Lom Dellom. There we go.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I'm getting better with the name thing, I think.
- 40:09Speaker 2: There you go. There's a lot of names in here
- 40:11Speaker 2: for you.
- 40:11Speaker 1: There a lot of individuals we are talking about here,
- 40:14Speaker 1: trying to get all the stories told we can. So
- 40:18Speaker 1: they were abducted and tied to Dean's bed and his
- 40:22Speaker 1: fucking torture board thing. After their torture and rape, Elmer
- 40:28Speaker 1: manually strangled Billy and then shouted hey Johnny and then
- 40:33Speaker 1: shot him in the forehead.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Wow.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Johnny then pleaded with them please don't before he was
- 40:41Speaker 1: then strangled to death. Both boys were buried at High
- 40:45Speaker 1: Island Beach.
- 40:46Speaker 2: What exactly is this torture board? Do we know anything
- 40:49Speaker 2: about this?
- 40:50Speaker 1: It's some sort of board that where he like straps
- 40:53Speaker 1: them down and he just kind of has his way
- 40:56Speaker 1: and beats them.
- 40:57Speaker 2: And yeah, I wish I didn't ask Actually.
- 41:04Speaker 1: There was another boy named Billy Rigginger, Ringinger, Ringing Her,
- 41:10Speaker 1: Riddinger Readinger. There we go. Names are hard. I try.
- 41:14Speaker 1: I pronounced all these like well, I was actually researching,
- 41:18Speaker 1: and then come to it.
- 41:19Speaker 2: It's just I constantly do like pronounce dot calm or whatever,
- 41:23Speaker 2: and then I'm like, okay, I got this, and then yeah,
- 41:26Speaker 2: and then as.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Soon as the mics are hot and we're reading, not
- 41:28Speaker 1: even close.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 41:30Speaker 1: So Billy Riddinger, Redingerdinger, see Okay, Billy Ridinger who was
- 41:37Speaker 1: nineteen and was brought to Dean. He was tied to
- 41:41Speaker 1: that torture board, tortured, abused, but was set free.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Oh really he was okay.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I couldn't find anything in what happened to him after that.
- 41:53Speaker 2: So he lived. Then we think, my gosh, that's amazing.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Another incident, Elmer actually knocked David unconscious and quote unquote
- 42:05Speaker 1: assaulted him. I don't know the definition of assaulted in
- 42:09Speaker 1: this scenario, Okay, if there was rape involved or what,
- 42:15Speaker 1: but he knocked him unconscious quote unquote assaulted him, and
- 42:20Speaker 1: then afterwards they after he woke up, it was just
- 42:22Speaker 1: like nothing ever happened. They just kept doing their thing.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 42:28Speaker 1: In the summer of nineteen seventy two, there were two
- 42:30Speaker 1: more victims. The first was seventeen year old Stephen Sickman,
- 42:34Speaker 1: who was last seen leaving a party held in the
- 42:36Speaker 1: Heights shortly before midnight on July nineteenth. He was savagely
- 42:41Speaker 1: savagely there we go, bludgeoned in the chest with a
- 42:44Speaker 1: blunt object before he was strangled and buried in the
- 42:47Speaker 1: boat shed approximately one month later, on a boat October sorry,
- 42:51Speaker 1: August twenty first, a nineteen year old named Roy Button
- 42:56Speaker 1: was abducted while walking to his job in a Houston
- 42:59Speaker 1: shoe store. Roy was gagged with a towel and his
- 43:02Speaker 1: mouth was bound with tape. He was shot twice in
- 43:05Speaker 1: the head and buried in the boat shed.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Cute. Not all the bodies were buried in the boat shed, though, Hey, no,
- 43:11Speaker 2: but a lot of them, a.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Lot of them there. The Highland Beach and the boat
- 43:16Speaker 1: shed were the two main places that the bodies were
- 43:20Speaker 1: disposed of. I guess it's the best way to put it.
- 43:24Speaker 1: On October second, nineteen seventy two, two teenagers named Willie J.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Sikimo and Richard Hembry were walking home and lured to Deans.
- 43:34Speaker 1: That evening, Jay phoned his mom and shouted the word
- 43:39Speaker 1: mama into the receiver before it was disconnected. The following morning,
- 43:44Speaker 1: both boys were strangled to death and subsequently buried in
- 43:49Speaker 1: the common grave inside the boat shed.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, that's like literally the last thing that
- 43:56Speaker 2: he said to his mom. Yep, oh my heart. I know,
- 44:00Speaker 2: like that really hurts. Oh.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I can't imagine that mom hearing that.
- 44:05Speaker 2: L No, this is just it's too much.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Okay, you need a minute. You needs more Halloween candy.
- 44:15Speaker 2: I know, I know, I don't actually need more Halloween candy.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Needs something I need to know when this shit ends, Well,
- 44:23Speaker 2: you have some more to go here? Are you fucking me?
- 44:26Speaker 1: Altogether, at least ten teenagers between the age of thirteen
- 44:29Speaker 1: and nineteen were murdered between February and November in nineteen
- 44:34Speaker 1: seventy two, five of whom were buried at the Highland
- 44:37Speaker 1: Beach and five inside the boat Shed. Among them were
- 44:41Speaker 1: eighteen year old williad Branch, who went missing while hitchhiking
- 44:44Speaker 1: from Mount Pleasant in nineteen year old Richard Kepner, who
- 44:48Speaker 1: disappeared on his way to a phone booth Dang on
- 44:55Speaker 1: January twentieth, nineteen seventy three, Dean moved to an address
- 44:59Speaker 1: on wrote in Spring Branch District of Houston. Within two
- 45:04Speaker 1: weeks of moving to his new address, he had killed
- 45:07Speaker 1: seventeen year old Joseph Lyles, and then shortly after in March,
- 45:12Speaker 1: moved to twenty twenty Lamar Drive.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Just constantly moving and also I need to know more
- 45:20Speaker 2: about this boat shed, but keep going.
- 45:23Speaker 1: The boat shed. It was a rented boat shed basically,
- 45:25Speaker 1: and that's that's that there was.
- 45:27Speaker 2: He can't be that big, and like they're bearing a
- 45:29Speaker 2: shit ton of bodies there.
- 45:31Speaker 1: He is bearing them on top of each other and
- 45:32Speaker 1: stuff too.
- 45:36Speaker 2: So interesting.
- 45:39Speaker 1: So we are at his final residence though, just just
- 45:43Speaker 1: to throw that out there, So we are winding down
- 45:45Speaker 1: a twenty twenty Lamar Drive is like the infamous address
- 45:49Speaker 1: for this case.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Sweet.
- 45:52Speaker 1: While at this residence, his killings began to increase in
- 45:56Speaker 1: frequency and brutality. Starting in June, he began to develop
- 46:01Speaker 1: a lust for killing even more, and he grew anxious,
- 46:04Speaker 1: pacing and smoking constantly when he wasn't active.
- 46:09Speaker 2: That's all that was on his mind, that's all he
- 46:11Speaker 2: wanted to do, basically.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Yep. June fourth, fifteen year old William Ray Lawrence. He
- 46:18Speaker 1: was last seen alive by his father on thirty first Street.
- 46:22Speaker 1: After three days of abuse and torture, William was strangled
- 46:27Speaker 1: before being buried at Lake Sam Rayburn less than two
- 46:32Speaker 1: weeks later, twenty year old Raymond Oh hold on, Oh sorry, yeah,
- 46:38Speaker 1: that's right. The names threw me off for a minute
- 46:40Speaker 1: because they're fairly close. Raymond Stanley Blackburn was abducted, strangled,
- 46:45Speaker 1: and buried at Lake Sam Rayburn.
- 46:49Speaker 2: And he doesn't keep the so he only keeps some
- 46:51Speaker 2: of them alive, hey, for extended periods of time, not
- 46:54Speaker 2: all of them, it.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Seems, saying. I'm assuming it has something to do with
- 46:57Speaker 1: his sexual desires. That's my assumption, But I don't know.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Jeez, I should just keep quiet because every time I
- 47:06Speaker 2: say anything like just makes me regret it.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Well, I'm just trying to be honest.
- 47:11Speaker 2: I don't know it makes sense, but.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that's that's what makes sense to me,
- 47:17Speaker 1: unless he's enjoying the torture part more. But it's either
- 47:23Speaker 1: between not wanting to kill yet because he doesn't want
- 47:27Speaker 1: to clean up the mess right now he's enjoying the torture,
- 47:31Speaker 1: or he's enjoying the rape. Those are the only three
- 47:33Speaker 1: options I could see, and I think the rape would
- 47:36Speaker 1: most likely be the answer.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Now where's my spot? I lost it?
- 47:46Speaker 2: I distracted you, Okay with all my questions.
- 47:48Speaker 1: It's all good. It's all good. We got this. July seventh,
- 47:53Speaker 1: nineteen seventy three, fifteen year old Homer Luis Garcia phoned
- 47:58Speaker 1: his mother to say he was spending the night with
- 48:00Speaker 1: a friend. He was shot and bled to death in
- 48:03Speaker 1: Dean's bathtub before he was buried at Lake sam Rayburn.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Wow.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Five days later, Holy shit. On July twelfth, seventeen year
- 48:13Speaker 1: old John Sellers of Orange County was bound, shot to
- 48:16Speaker 1: death and buried at High Island Beach.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Like the police ustedge to be going wild. This is
- 48:23Speaker 2: a ton of people. Yeah, at the end, do you
- 48:26Speaker 2: kind of like say how many?
- 48:28Speaker 1: Yes?
- 48:28Speaker 2: Holy, because I've lost so much count Like I've lost count.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Predicting, it's unbelievable.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Between July nineteenth and twenty fifth, fifteen year old Michael Balch,
- 48:40Speaker 1: brother of previous victim Billy Bulsch, was last seen by
- 48:44Speaker 1: his family on July nineteenth, on his way to get
- 48:47Speaker 1: a haircut.
- 48:48Speaker 2: You're kidding me.
- 48:50Speaker 1: He was strangled and buried at Lake sam Rayburn. The
- 48:55Speaker 1: other two, Charles Cable and Marty ray Jones, were abducted
- 48:59Speaker 1: together on the afternoon of July twenty fifth, and we're
- 49:02Speaker 1: buried in the boat shed.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Okay, that brought that being a brother of someone that
- 49:08Speaker 2: had previously been adopted really making has made me mad,
- 49:13Speaker 2: like always had made me mad.
- 49:14Speaker 1: But that I know, that's it's just double for that family.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean some of them it was the same time.
- 49:22Speaker 2: But to have it like happen and then you're like,
- 49:24Speaker 2: probably really were protecting your kid, but like the kid
- 49:28Speaker 2: needed a haircut, you gotta kind of like and then
- 49:30Speaker 2: it happens again. Oh my gosh, that just makes your
- 49:34Speaker 2: head hurt and your heart basically everything.
- 49:39Speaker 1: This whole fucking episode is just so heavy on the heart.
- 49:42Speaker 1: It like get hurttal. I can't wait to have this
- 49:46Speaker 1: one off my fucking chest and I don't have to
- 49:48Speaker 1: research talk about it anymore.
- 49:50Speaker 2: So you just go and forget all forget like I'm
- 49:53Speaker 2: going to try.
- 49:54Speaker 1: I want to try to forget it, though. I hope
- 49:58Speaker 1: that these victims are an't forgotten.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Poor victims.
- 50:03Speaker 1: So on August third, nineteen seventy three, a thirteen year
- 50:08Speaker 1: old quote unquote, small blonde boy from South Houston named
- 50:13Speaker 1: James Stanton Dreymala. He had a pizza bot for him
- 50:18Speaker 1: by David, and he spent approximately forty five minutes talking
- 50:23Speaker 1: and sharing it with them before he was attacked and
- 50:27Speaker 1: abducted and taken to Dean's home.
- 50:33Speaker 2: Oh my god, this shit they do.
- 50:35Speaker 1: James was tied to Dean's torture board, raped, tortured, and
- 50:40Speaker 1: strangled with a cord before being buried in the boat shed.
- 50:45Speaker 1: James would be Dean's last victim.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Oh okay. I thought maybe that he would have gotten
- 50:51Speaker 2: away then, but no.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Who would have gotten away.
- 50:56Speaker 2: That this last boy got away or something and that's
- 50:59Speaker 2: how he ended up getting caught was sort of my thought.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Well we're winded down to that, okay, okay. August seventh,
- 51:09Speaker 1: nineteen seventy three. Elmer ended up bringing a girlfriend of
- 51:13Speaker 1: his and another friend, Tim Curly to Dean's house. The
- 51:18Speaker 1: three of them and Dean stayed up, drank, huffed paint
- 51:22Speaker 1: and fumes and shit, oh god, till about midnight. They
- 51:26Speaker 1: drove out, got some sandwiches, came back and ended up
- 51:29Speaker 1: being till about three and before they all finally ended
- 51:32Speaker 1: up passing out falling asleep, okay, until Elmer woke up
- 51:38Speaker 1: with his feet bound and Dean was handcuffing him to
- 51:42Speaker 1: his torture board. Really, his girlfriend and Tim were also bound,
- 51:49Speaker 1: had their feet, hands tied, and tape over their mouth.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Dean was furious that Elmer brought a woman to his place, stating,
- 51:59Speaker 1: quote unquote, man, you blew it bringing that girl, before
- 52:03Speaker 1: shouting quote unquote, I'm gonna kill you all, but first
- 52:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna have my fun. Oh whoa, yeah, are you good?
- 52:14Speaker 1: Where do you think this is going?
- 52:15Speaker 2: I have no idea. I'm like on the edge of
- 52:18Speaker 2: my seat here.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Elmer knew what was about to follow, as he's literally
- 52:22Speaker 1: witnessed the scenario so many times before, being involved in
- 52:26Speaker 1: it so many times before, so he began to try
- 52:29Speaker 1: to talk Dean down, try and talk him out of it,
- 52:33Speaker 1: but he did it in a bit of a different way.
- 52:36Speaker 1: He promised to participate in the torture and the murder
- 52:39Speaker 1: of both his friend and his girlfriend if Dean just
- 52:44Speaker 1: released him. After approximately thirty minutes of a discussion, Dean
- 52:49Speaker 1: finally agreed and untied him. Then they both carried his
- 52:56Speaker 1: friend and girlfriend into the bedroom, tied them on opposite
- 52:59Speaker 1: side to the torture board. Old, I'm thinking I got
- 53:04Speaker 1: the name wrong on this one. I think I might
- 53:06Speaker 1: have got the name is mixed up. Which one's who
- 53:08Speaker 1: is again? Who again? Who's the girlfriend? Who's the friend?
- 53:11Speaker 2: Because we don't know the girlfriends name, Curly, Curly something something,
- 53:16Speaker 2: Curly was that one of the names?
- 53:18Speaker 1: Yep, Curly, Okay, so Curley's a friend and we don't
- 53:20Speaker 1: know the girlfriend's name. So Curly was on his stomach
- 53:25Speaker 1: and the girlfriend, which I think her last name was
- 53:28Speaker 1: Williams's I think all I know she was on her back.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Oh please, dear God, makes Elmer not do anything.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Then Elmer followed Dean's instructions, including attempting to rape his girlfriend,
- 53:44Speaker 1: so he was handed to hunting knife, cut off her clothes,
- 53:49Speaker 1: and began to rape Wow, his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Dean was
- 53:54Speaker 1: trying to rape Curly Wow, but in the midst of it,
- 54:00Speaker 1: Almer managed to grab Dean's gun and pointed at him
- 54:04Speaker 1: and shouted, you've gone far enough Dean. Dean abandoned the
- 54:10Speaker 1: rape and began to approach Elmer. Saying kill me as
- 54:13Speaker 1: he kept coming forward. You won't do it. Wow, But
- 54:18Speaker 1: that's what Elmer did. Shot Dean six times.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 54:24Speaker 1: The first time in the forehead, but it's a twenty
- 54:27Speaker 1: two caliber bullet, which is a small caliber. Didn't penetrate
- 54:32Speaker 1: the skull the first shot, so he kept stumbling forward
- 54:37Speaker 1: and Elmer kept shooting until he was.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Okay. And I also, the one other thing that's on
- 54:43Speaker 2: my mind is like I can't believe that he even
- 54:46Speaker 2: was able to get all three of them like tied up.
- 54:49Speaker 2: Kind of like that just like blows my mind.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Drunk and high, yes, oh okay, he was just biting
- 54:56Speaker 1: his time.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Shit, Okay, he probably.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Wasn't huffing here, wasn't drink he was just waiting.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Oh god, this guy is just disgusting. Okay, So Almer
- 55:05Speaker 2: has shot him to death.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Yep. And at eight twenty four am on August eighth,
- 55:10Speaker 1: nineteen seventy three, Almer placed a call to nine one
- 55:15Speaker 1: one and was answered by the operator named Velma Lines.
- 55:19Speaker 1: And in that call, Elmer said, quote unquote, y'all better
- 55:22Speaker 1: get here right now. I just killed a man.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Elmer spilled it all.
- 55:30Speaker 2: So he had to get this all off his chesty,
- 55:32Speaker 2: which is actually surprising that he didn't try to like
- 55:35Speaker 2: project himself.
- 55:37Speaker 1: You damn near got a quote from him already when
- 55:39Speaker 1: he was read his Miranda rights. He just simply said,
- 55:42Speaker 1: quote unquote, I don't care who knows about it. I
- 55:45Speaker 1: have to get it off my chest.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Wow. That's actually good, so good because I because he
- 55:52Speaker 2: could have honestly hit it all.
- 55:53Speaker 1: He could have. He told police everything and even helped
- 55:58Speaker 1: locate the bodies.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Wow, Oh, how could you remember all the names and stuff.
- 56:04Speaker 1: I don't know if he would have remembered the names.
- 56:05Speaker 1: I'm sure it's identifying from missing persons reports.
- 56:08Speaker 2: To the bodies, right, because I'm.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Sure he doesn't even know half these people who they
- 56:12Speaker 1: were or even their names nothing. Yeah, he just knows
- 56:15Speaker 1: yet this guy, this was this guy that we got here, right,
- 56:19Speaker 1: and then it could help link to the missing persons reports.
- 56:22Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, I'm pretty sure we got this one
- 56:23Speaker 1: over at the pizza place or something like that.
- 56:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 56:27Speaker 1: So, on July of nineteen seventy four, the jury deliberated
- 56:31Speaker 1: for ninety two minutes before finding Elmer guilty of six
- 56:35Speaker 1: accounts of murder. For each account, he is ordered to
- 56:38Speaker 1: serve a ninety nine year sentence consecutively, totaling five hundred
- 56:44Speaker 1: and ninety four years in prison.
- 56:46Speaker 2: Good.
- 56:47Speaker 1: He was transferred to the Huntsville Unit to formally begin his.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Sentence and sorry, when was that? What year was that?
- 56:54Speaker 1: Nineteen seventy four? Oh, okay, he's got a few hundred
- 56:57Speaker 1: left to go.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:00Speaker 1: David came full confession on the evening of August ninth,
- 57:05Speaker 1: admitting to being present at several killings and assisting in
- 57:08Speaker 1: several burials, but he denied any direct participation in any murders.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Liar yep.
- 57:17Speaker 1: David's trial lasted less than one week. The jury deliberated
- 57:22Speaker 1: for around ninety minutes before they reached the verdict. He
- 57:26Speaker 1: was found guilty on March fourth, nineteen seventy four, and
- 57:32Speaker 1: was sentenced to life in prison. Good now, both men
- 57:38Speaker 1: actually did what's it called again when you try to
- 57:41Speaker 1: get out.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Of jail, your oh, appeals appeal?
- 57:44Speaker 1: The word got I left me for a minute there.
- 57:46Speaker 1: Both men did appeal and both didn't go through David, however,
- 57:52Speaker 1: David owen Brooks died on May twenty eighth, twenty twenty,
- 57:56Speaker 1: while still serving his sentence in prison. He had other
- 57:59Speaker 1: health issues, but in the end he succumbed to COVID nineteen.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Really hey, okay, well, it's actually amazing that nothing bad
- 58:08Speaker 2: happened to any of them prior to, because they were
- 58:12Speaker 2: in jail for something pretty horrific and lots of times. Yeah, Like,
- 58:15Speaker 2: if you're in jail for something involves children, don't have
- 58:18Speaker 2: the best of times in there.
- 58:20Speaker 1: Yeah, usually you get beat to death.
- 58:23Speaker 2: So it's actually amazing that he died of that and
- 58:27Speaker 2: not something prior to.
- 58:30Speaker 1: In total, the candy Man had a minimum it's unknown
- 58:34Speaker 1: as total count, but he had a minimum of twenty
- 58:37Speaker 1: seven victims.
- 58:39Speaker 2: Oh gosh, I feel like there's way more than that.
- 58:41Speaker 2: That seems low.
- 58:44Speaker 1: There were some reports I saw that said twenty eight
- 58:47Speaker 1: minimum twenty eight, but the most common one that I
- 58:49Speaker 1: found was twenty seven. So I'm going to go with out.
- 58:51Speaker 2: I mean, still a ton, but I was honestly expecting
- 58:54Speaker 2: that number to be higher.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Yeah. So that is the story of the Candy Man.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Oh, I hate the candy Man.
- 59:01Speaker 1: Fuck that guy.
- 59:03Speaker 2: That is just disgusting. Yeah, okay, so he's dead, David's dead,
- 59:10Speaker 2: and Elmer's still just in jail.
- 59:13Speaker 1: Yes, For the next five and fifty years.
- 59:16Speaker 2: Yeah, huh interesting, I mean I do. I'm glad that
- 59:21Speaker 2: Elmer and David came forward and convest and like helped
- 59:26Speaker 2: with finding these kids and stuff, but still like still
- 59:30Speaker 2: pieces of shit.
- 59:31Speaker 1: I do want to say though, in the end though,
- 59:34Speaker 1: with Elmer raping his girlfriend, he did that specifically to
- 59:41Speaker 1: gain advantage over over Dean. When the police showed up,
- 59:45Speaker 1: all three his friend, his girlfriend, and himself were all
- 59:48Speaker 1: sitting on the porch. The gun was sitting down on
- 59:51Speaker 1: the ground for the police to collect when they walked
- 59:52Speaker 1: up and everything, and Elmer actually told his girlfriend he said,
- 59:56Speaker 1: you know, if I, if I did go ahead with it,
- 59:58Speaker 1: I could have got two hundred bucks.
- 59:59Speaker 2: For if I would say that again, if I did.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Go ahead with it, I could have got two hundred
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: bucks for you.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Okay, that's fucked up heh Yeah.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: But clearly he didn't go ahead with it, but he
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: did go ahead with a lot of other fucked up shits.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: So geez the money and like, how was this guy
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: making money to pay for that kind of thing.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Maybe he was involved in some sort of trafficking ring.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe some of the people that he
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: was abducting he was sending off to trafficking ring getting
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: money for it, and he was only taking some for himself.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so maybe that wasn't even like a full out lie,
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: really very likely brutal. Okay, well yeah.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Well next week we got Halloween week coming up.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Yes, maybe, Now I was like, maybe we should do
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: a case. It's like, fun, Well, we're not heavy.

- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Okay, there will be some that aren't like to this
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: heavy level for sure.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: And if you don't know Robert the Doll, Robert the
