[upbeat music] I, I think the thing needs more cowbell in there. There should be some more cowbell in that [laughs] in that intro song.
• 0:18
[cowbell rings] Yeah, I don't know if that's quite the same thing as- Well, impromptu... impromptu cowbell. [laughs] You need a stick. Yeah. Hey, everybody. It's Full Spectrum Cycling. Give me 30 seconds.
• 0:29
[clears throat] [laughs] Oh, wait. We're not... Don't work blue. That's what killed Red Fox's career. This is, uh, show number 184. Got, uh, Tony to my left on time this week. Thanks, Tony. Woo-hoo-hoo. Ooh.
• 0:44
I think you only missed one or two- Actually, I listened to it-... in on times... and it was like, it was not- You were, like, two minutes late. Yeah, I was like- [laughs]... just like, I'm like, "Wait a minute.
• 0:53
I was here this week." I'm like, "Wait a minute, I wasn't even that late." Or something. That's okay. It might've been less than two minutes. For, for what you get paid, you should be on time. Right?
• 1:01
Actually, actually no biggie. Right? That'd be zero. [laughs] JK's over there, uh, picking his fingernails or something. I don't know. Yeah. I got a corn. I c- I, I like corn. I love corn. I like corn. You like corn?
• 1:12
[laughs] Which way do we go up here? [laughs] Which way do we go up here? [laughs] Oh, boy. That's why- Yeah, I guess what [laughs] So yeah, we did a, a reasonably good ride on Saturday, which
• 1:25
it, it confused me in the beginning, 'cause c- I was coming to the shop to grab a bike and there was several people over at Amorphic, which is right by the shop here, having beers, and I'm like, "Well, wait, wait, everybody's meeting over here?
• 1:37
I thought we were meeting at Uptown or whatever, whatever." Turns out some of the people were doing this 12-hour Shorewood 12-Hour Race. Oops. Similar to a- Riverwest 24... Riverwest 24, I guess, kinda thing. Yeah.
• 1:49
Yeah, it's lame. Kinda forgot about that. Right? So they were... That, but Rusty was one of the guys, so- Mm. From the g- Good thing... from the record shop, the guitar shop, I mean.
• 1:56
Uh, and then, you know, uh, Dave Lunz and a, and, and s- Kenny Nielsen, and Bill, and, and ladies were there. But I thought they were gonna do our thing. I'm like, "Oh, hey. We're, we're meeting here, I guess, huh?"
• 2:10
They were doing Doors Open Milwaukee. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And they happened to be over there. I'm like- Same. Missed that...
• 2:14
I was confused, because I thought, you know, we're gonna meet at Uptown, and I'm like, "Well, we should be at Uptown in, like, 20 minutes." They're like, "Well, we're not going. I don't know," whatever, whatever.
• 2:23
So yeah, so we ended up- That's kinda funny... meeting, meeting JK at Uptown, and, uh, eventually I guess Dave came. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, uh- Yeah... yeah, so we had a nice ride down to, uh, Kashube Park. Kashube. Yes.
• 2:38
The smallest park in this, in Milwaukee. Yeah, in the city. Yeah. River- Riverwalk Ride and, which was fun. Yeah, Riverwalk Ride and, and J- Like that. That's a fun one, so... Jones Island.
• 2:47
Where you're, where you're just zigging and zagging on both sides- Yeah, not, it wasn't-... just because you can't drop in bikes- It wasn't too populated-... the path... with peoples and stuff.
• 2:53
One, one day my house will be finished and I can ride bikes with you again. Yeah. Well, it's coming up on snow season. I know. I gotta finish my house. Had some people looking at, uh, fat bikes- Oh, oh...
• 3:04
this week, 'cause guess what they're thinking? It's coming up on snow s- Snow season... season hopefully. So I, you know, I'm, I'm... As I was getting my bike out to ride here today, I have to confess that,
• 3:17
as I've probably confessed before, I'm a complete idiot, but... So I've got these- There's gotta be more to it than that... I've, I've got the- Good talk, Tony. [laughs] All right. Yeah.
• 3:26
Man, so- I, I've got the Bianchi with me today, and I have those Panasonic touring tires on 'em that go, like, 95 to 120 PSI, and- Seems like a lot for these streets of Milwaukee, if you ask me...
• 3:40
so I put 'em at about 85, okay? And I have sessions that I really like. I really do like a session tire. This Panasonic city tire is so much better
• 3:54
that I have come to the conclusion that for the last 30 years of my bike riding I've bought cheap tires and I'm an idiot. And I'm gonna add to that the fact that I bought Sam's
• 4:05
fucking studded fat bike tires, which are absolutely deplorable. Yes. I mean, they're the worst tire I have ever- That's because-... ridden in my life... that's because they're V tire tires. They're V tire.
• 4:16
I- I, we- They're terrible... how many times have we talked about this- Oh... and how crappy those tires are? So from this day forward, I'm gonna go with real tires on my bikes.
• 4:25
Like for example, I, once they're finally available again, a nice set of Extraterrestrials. Extrat- Extrat-... errestrials-... errestrials are delightful- We-... delightful skins... what size? We might have some here.
• 4:35
I, I, 29er. Mm. Not- I don't know if they make 29ers... plus, but- Well, yeah, they make 700 by- I got some 26s... something, 45s or something. I can put 'em on something. I got, I, I can- Extraterrestrials-...
• 4:48
I can run 'em... they roll pretty well They roll very well. They don't make those in f- four-inch wide, do they? No, I don't think they get up to the fat bike zone. Oh, I see.
• 4:56
Somebody, somebody needs to come out with something- I think two and a half... though, of that ilk. It needs to be... I mean, that Extraterrestrial tread would be great on a fat bike tire. Right?
• 5:04
I think it's, like, two and a half is, at least that last- Two, 2.6 or something like that, yeah. Yeah, 26-inch they make a two and a half. Yeah. Yeah. But, uh, yeah, it would be awesome.
• 5:13
We need a good fast rolling, you know, more, uh, s- urban- Friendly... attack oriented fat bike tire. The, you know, the Black Floyd was cool, but it was, A, discontinued, and B, very thin. And make 'em again, please.
• 5:29
Yeah, you should make 'em again. They are so great. [laughs] You should make those again. I have them on, I have them on my, uh... Oh. People are hoarding them now.
• 5:36
I'm like- My, my, my weapon, my weapon of choice, [laughs] which becomes a bicycle at times. Yeah. When the eyes see red. [laughs] Well, I'm just saying, Surly, you should do one or the other of those.
• 5:48
And, and really if you- You got a good thing there... for nostalgia's sake, the Black Floyds, but for practicality, maybe a big fat ass Extraterrestrial might be the way to go. Mm-hmm. You'd have me on the hook.
• 6:00
I think you guys sh- both send them an email now I, I think that's a good idea. Yeah. I mean, we... They, they need a nice urban fat bike tire. No one has one right now. The Vee Rubber one sucks.
• 6:12
Well, you know- I had that for the River West 24 that year. They were terrible. Fat bikes are a fad. I know. They're such a fad. I was talking to- I got one that's [laughs] 16 years old now or something like that.
• 6:20
There were some folks in this week that were looking at a couple of the ice cream trucks. I think... Actually, I think they'll end up buying them, and I... I'm sitting on them for a couple days till they
• 6:30
do a little bit of, uh, sh- Yeah, ring in The lady wants to check out with her physical therapist, 'cause she has knee issues, if the Q factor's gonna be a thing or not and whatever, but I- I know... I think not, really.
• 6:40
No. It shouldn't be at all. On the, on a ice cream truck. Oh, an ice cream truck? Yeah. Well, it's pretty wide. Yeah. Like 105. It's only 20 millimeters wider than a 170 though, so.
• 6:49
Honestly- Wednesday, 20 millimeters wider. Whatever. Yeah. I still think... I bl- I am stoked with my new Wednesday. Like that thing. Course, it has all the good parts from the old bike on it. Right.
• 7:01
So I didn't have to buy all the good stuff, 'cause I already had it, so yeah. It's a good choice. So I got that going for me, which- I should test ride that, see what I think about it. You should test ride that.
• 7:11
We got two other frames if people wanna get a build going. I got parts and stuff. I guess we can do that. And stuff. Bike shop, you know, that kind of thing. So yeah.
• 7:23
So what, what I was, what I was getting at with talking to these folks about fat bikes is, and them being a fad and all, we're in the epicenter of fat bike world here in the Midwest.
• 7:34
In Wisconsin, Michigan, you know, Minnesota. Minnesota. Basically- Isn't that when-... you know, Iowa... wait, wait. Isn't Minnesota- Upper Iowa... d- don't we have Frost Bike there next week?
• 7:45
I don't think it's next week. Okay. I was... Thought it was next week. It's coming up. I don't even know what... I think that they're gonna do it virtual again. Oh.
• 7:52
That said, we talked about CABDA, so that one- Oh, yeah... is gonna be live. We can go down there. That was fun when we went a couple years ago. Uh-huh. Yeah, it was. It was. Checking out stuff.
• 8:00
And we stopped at that, that diner on the way there, which was pretty cool too. Oh, the Bristol 45 Diner? Is that what that was? Damn good diner down there. It was all right. It was all right. Right by the Ren Fair.
• 8:09
Nice eggs. Yeah. Nice eggs. That's a good place. So I was like, part of what got me to thinking that, you know, we're still kinda the epicenter is that, A, uh, especially north of us, we get snow still, which is good.
• 8:20
You're gonna need that somewhat. Yeah, kind of important. But there's just, I, you... We're starting to see a lot of events now show up that are gonna be, you know, 2022, '23 season of fat biking. Polar Roll is...
• 8:34
Registration I think is open, mm, in the, I think at the beginning of November or something. That's coming up. Is Huge Ass going again? I believe Huge Ass is going again. We don't have the date. I don't have the date.
• 8:44
Somebody probably does. I just pilfer these from Fatbike.com. Right, right. Of course. When Gomez puts them up there- There we go... I'm like, "Huh, well, there's another event. Nice."
• 8:53
I don't write scripts anymore because I steal them from someone else on the internet. [laughs] Just works out that way. Well, uh, you can always check that, uh, Fatbike.com calendar out.
• 9:04
You'll find a lot of stuff on there, but stuff like US Fat Bike Open in Green Bay is, you know, f- February 11th, and Sweaty Yeti's March 4th, and Fat Bike Burkey's March 11th, and so on and so forth. So there's...
• 9:19
Things are starting to fill in there. You're gonna wanna go, you know, save the date on your calendar if you wanna go to any of these events. Plus, stuff like the Sweaty Yeti sells out. I... Well, I'm... So does...
• 9:31
I mean, Polar Roll definitely sells out. Frost Bike? Frost Bike usually doesn't sell out I don't think. [laughs] Speaking to- Back in the olden days- [laughs]... that was a great thing to do.
• 9:39
They'd pay for your room and your flight there or your gas for your car to go to Frost Bike. Eh, no, I don't think they're doing that anymore.
• 9:47
[laughs] Good stuff, but, uh, uh, uh, uh, Fall Color Festival this weekend, which doesn't have to be a fat bike thing out there at the John Muir Trails. Oh, hello. Oh. Oh, hello. Ah. Oh, cripes in a- Oh...
• 10:04
the head has given forth. [laughs] Oh. Of, of the, uh, the questions. We're gonna do these question things? [bell dinging] Oh, and it's the top of the hill. And well, that's good because I...
• 10:19
So I'm gonna say today, being Wednesday, because I'm not gonna backdate myself, we, uh, uh, laid Dave's mom to rest in a very nice, uh, prairie green whatever setting at Forest Home Cemetery.
• 10:34
And, uh, I don't know, hopefully Dave calls in. Uh, his mom's name was Martha. She, she rode bikes a lot. She was 81, but she still...
• 10:44
I don't think she rode super recently, but into her 70s easily, and they, and she and her husband had I think the longest bike I've ever seen that only held two people. It was like a tandem recumbent
• 10:57
s- super- Long boy... zoot bike. I can't remember what it was called. Interesting. Well, somebody like Dave would know what it was called. Interesting, yeah. Yeah. It was, but it was just like...
• 11:05
It's, it's as long as a minivan basically. Wow. And then, and, uh- Trike or s- two-wheeler? Trike. Trike. Okay. Okay. I'm pretty sure it was a trike. And his dad rode every day from Glendale down to, uh- Absolutely...
• 11:20
Allen Bradley where he worked. Ah. Like, year-round, every day. Yeah. Unless it was super crappy out, he'd, he'd throw on, get on the bus. But yeah, so they're... I mean, it's a cycling family, and whatever.
• 11:31
It was, it was a nice thing. And, uh, I- Dave's a great guy... Dave. Don't let him hear you say [laughs] that. He's not gonna listen to me.
• 11:40
His head's already so freaking big he can't [laughs] can't even get through the door. Can we once again remember the time that he went sprinting in that pole assuming it would fold down? Oh, I can r- Oh, yeah...
• 11:52
every time- Man. And he got within, like, four inches of it, and all you hear is, "Oh, fuck." [laughs] And then there's Dave flying through the air. Oh, I, every time I... I mean, and we ride by that pole a lot. Yeah.
• 12:03
It's on, it's on- I love seeing- Yes... his leg up in the air. Yeah. This is at- As I'm coming around the bend like, "Ha ha." So this pole is meant to stop automobiles from going onto the bike trail. Yes.
• 12:12
[laughs] It's... It doesn't move. It's not gonna fall. It was epic. [laughs] And he sprinted towards it at maximum velocity. Yeah. And then he wheelied... into it.
• 12:21
Yep Like he was gonna knock it down like, "Ah, I'm gonna knock it down," and it didn't move an inch. [laughs] It was absolutely hilarious.
• 12:29
I was just, I was, I, I, and to this day I'm surprised that the thing did not completely destroy his fork or headset or frame or- Right...
• 12:37
cave or something, 'cause- He just bent the handlebars straight- [laughs] Kind of... and rode the rest of the ride. Yeah, yeah. Classic- Big old bruise on his stomach... classic, classic Luns right there.
• 12:46
Yep, there you go. Uh, I heard the bell. I see the beer. Hmm. I haven't actually opened the beer yet, though. I have. I'm drinking it all. Well, let's- Well-... let's look at this beer...
• 12:55
let's see what it is, 'cause I still have my hams. This is, um, this is a, you know, Three Sheeps out of Sheboygan, which I- Hmm... think should be a bike ride for us, you guys. It's, you know, it's- Hmm, Sheboygan. Yep.
• 13:08
Like, ride, ride up to Three Sheeps? Ride, Three Sheeps. Spend the night- Three Sheep-... somewhere or something... Three Sheeps Inn... and then ride back.
• 13:14
That's- It's their West Coast-style- It's only 50 miles up there, though... IPA. Yeah, you could do a century. On- 7.2- Two consecutive days, thank you... well, yeah, yeah.
• 13:25
Don't, don't f- Well, if we, don't, don't try to do it all in one day anymore. Right. No. No, uh. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Those, those 25-mile days- So-... are enough for me these days... seven, 7 point... Right...
• 13:35
[laughs] shit, right? 7.2% alcohol. Oh, it does not taste as 7.2. Um, it does not. It's a- I mean, it smells-... very delicious... it smells fruity. It does smell quite fruity. Hmm.
• 13:45
It's- If, if the listeners don't know about Three Sheeps, they should really learn about Three Sheeps, 'cause they make much more, much like Amorphic across the parking lot, um, they don't really make a bad beer. Ah.
• 14:00
Um, they're- Oh, that's, uh, that's full bodied. Yeah. It's, it's... But it's delicious. That was a big gulp, too, though, so [laughs] Ooh. Um, what's the name of this one?
• 14:10
I gotta cover it up with a Single Speed USA, um, Texas 2019 koozie with an armadillo on it. This is the Offshore West Coast-style IPA. Gotcha.
• 14:23
JK- We also have water if you guys- JK, JK's, uh, uh, his can is covered with the beautiful Surly Do Not Arrest This Person koozie. [laughs] Which he had on him when he was almost arrested. Exactly. What do you got?
• 14:32
Oh, you got four- Cited, cited- Tony's got four ones now... cited by the park ranger is not really arrested. It, were you holding it- Could've been... in a, like so he could see Do Not Arrest This Person?
• 14:41
He was holding it, that I could take a picture of. Oh, [laughs] nice. I think I still have that picture. I gotta have that picture somewhere. You gotta have that somewhere.
• 14:48
That was a few years back down there in- Oh, yes... Illinois' state park. Yes. Note to everyone, consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in, uh, Illinois state parks. The more you know.
• 15:01
Now- I, is it- [laughs]... by, you can't, not even by permit, I guess, 'cause we've- I don't think so... camped down there a few times and certainly clandestinely had beer. Well, yeah. But apparently... Shit. Fuck.
• 15:13
Oh, that was during an event, too. Yeah. I think that was during one of the, uh, fat bike events that we do, do down there from time to time. Hmm. Mm-hmm. Have a good wreck down there.
• 15:25
Hey, you know, I've had these things on... Did we... I don't know if we talked about this last week. Mm-hmm. You guys know Cabela's? Yeah, of course. Yes. Just sporting goods store thing. Ah, here we go.
• 15:34
Right out of the gate. They've, they've, they've got a fat bike now. Oh, yeah. You're kidding me. Yeah, there you go. Is it an electric fat bike, or...? Uh, no, it's called the Ascend fat bike.
• 15:43
[laughs] Anyway, I know it looks kinda like the, uh, like the old, um, I forgot the QBP brand that was camo so you could go hunting with it. Sure. It's one of those deals. So they got one.
• 15:53
It's called the Ascend, um, M-O-H-E-R. I don't even know how you say that. Mohr. Mohr? Uh, they got a fat bike.
• 16:00
I guess I thought, I thought the fat bike market was consolidating, but now we got another new brand out there. It's a fad, man. Yeah. So what, what, what's the specs on it? One by 10? I don't even know. Two by seven?
• 16:13
I just noticed that they had one. It didn't really seem- Uh... like I needed to- Look further... uh, I could always look at it. Here, let's see. Steel? Fiberglass? Redirecting. I'm getting redirected by the interwebs.
• 16:24
Is it, is this- It's only, it's 800 bucks, though. Oh, so it's gotta be fiberglass or something. No, it's [laughs] it's aluminum. [laughs] Aluminum. It's got 4.9s on her there. Oh, so she got the big tires.
• 16:36
I don't even... Oh. Maybe Sam should run out and get one of them. You can curbside delivery, blah, blah, blah.
• 16:41
Manufacturer may substitute components of equal or greater performance whenever they feel like it, blah, blah, blah. I don't know. I'm not really seeing much on the...
• 16:49
Anyway, the point was just that they're making something. Mm-hmm. You got your small, you got your medium, you got your large. It's an adult bike. It's not a kid's bike. There you go. And I don't know, it's pretty dark.
• 16:59
It's got some sort of semi-camo looking thing on it, though. Anyway, there you go. Some bears can't see you or something. You got a Cabela's and you can't find a real fat bike, you could always get one of them.
• 17:09
It's a one by something. It looks like a- Yeah... 12-speed maybe, judging by that big old pop plate back there. But, uh, yeah, so, you know, I just have had these on the [laughs] show notes for the last couple weeks.
• 17:21
Uh, uh, our buddies at, uh, at M- Money Bicysoles, Bicysoles down there. Bikes. [laughs] Uh-huh. Bicycles. I love my meal replacement bar, but now they're making this light bar call, uh, uh, out of carbon fiber.
• 17:37
They, they got the carbon- Carbo-fiber? They got the carpet fiber there on their handlebars, which is kinda fun, 'cause he loves doing welding things, so I don't think he can weld carpet fiber.
• 17:46
That'd be pretty impressive. Anyway, they're expensive, but they're nice. They're a riser bar, kinda, kinda sweet-looking. I like it. I kinda want 'em. What's kind of expensive? I think they're, like, three bills.
• 17:58
I could- Oof... I could look if I gotta look, but, uh- Oh... you know, they're, they're, uh, 312. $312. Yeah. Not 315. So I think that makes it affordable.
• 18:10
It's just they're super limited run and whatever, and yeah, they're, they're just 825 millimeters wide of carbon goodness. Mm-hmm. If and you need that kinda thing, s- 800 and how much? That's huge. 825. Five.
• 18:25
I think that's five millimeters wider than if you got the, uh, carbon whiskey bar. But these are beefier looking, and you can put your lights on them. Yeah. So they'll hold your lights- At least for your wheel...
• 18:35
with your carbon fiber on there. So yeah, they got a 3D model. It's spinning. You know, you can, you can see that. Cool. Cool. Cool. So that's worth some money. But yeah, nice rate.
• 18:45
Anyway, they're all downhill ISO tested, blah, blah, blah. Support Shell if you can, and you got the money, buy one of those things. They're badass.
• 18:57
And then the thing that I think I really gotta have, I, I can't stand wanting these so much, but [laughs] there's a, there's a company called Tectonic, and their first product is this carbon fiber platform pedal.
• 19:12
Oh, come on. It's super kickass. There's a picture of it right here. No. You can see it later. I, I'm, I'm tempted. These are only two hundo, though. Not even, 199. I, I'm gonna tell you, yeah, 190 with shipping. 199.
• 19:26
199.99. Lots of pins, lots of different pins on there, and it's a f-i... carbon fiber filled nylon pedal body. Yeah.
• 19:35
S- seems super cool, and it's got my favorite thing in the world, concave, because I can't stand a pedal that doesn't have some concave to it.
• 19:42
I'm just gonna say, you get those and you bust your junk on your carbon fiber fork or your carbon fiber pedals, I'll laugh at you. [laughs] Every Wednesday. Well, I- Every...
• 19:51
I will call you up on your deathbed and laugh at you- I don't think they'll break... yelling at me. I think these guys are, um, industry veterans. They're not goofing around.
• 19:58
I, I think they'll make the- Everyone can make a mistake-... run... and you're gonna bust your junk. Well, that said, I... And for what these cost, I could outfit, like, six bikes with my,
• 20:07
my VP pedal Aim, A-I-M pedals, which I love so much. Mm-hmm. So I don't know. It's just they're rebuildable. They got nice bearings. They look super sexy. I kinda like them.
• 20:19
They only weigh 330 grams if you are a gram shaving type. I'm not. Well, you could be. I shave off my belly. [laughs] Shave it o- That's where I should shave- Shave it-... some grams... [laughs] shave it off my belly.
• 20:30
So anyway, I felt like I... Those were things I've seen that I like the last few weeks poking around the interwebs. You could probably find good stuff on this on somebody else's website.
• 20:40
We don't seem to be getting our shit together to do that on ours, but we'll talk about it. Yeah. Yeah. Global Fat Bike Day. Coming up. December 4th, or is it 3rd?
• 20:49
Because I'm confused 'cause December 3rd is the CAMBA Global Fat Bike Day celebration. Hm. So- Maybe you should do both days to cover bases... that's probably not a bad idea. Where's my freaking calendar? Here it is.
• 21:02
So is December 3rd, then, a Saturday, and December 4th is a Sunday? Hm. Don't know. That's way- You got the computator in front of you... way, way too far in the past. All right. Or future, or whatever.
• 21:13
Uh, the 3rd- Both... is a Saturday. The 4th is a Sunday. Nice. So- We could time it where we leave at 11:00 PM and come home around 1:00 AM and cover both bases... that's not a bad idea.
• 21:25
I've been thinking about a full moon beach ride again, too. I'm in. Y- yes. I mean- Let's do that... a winter one, though, 'cause we need beach. Yeah.
• 21:32
We- We don't really- And we need full moon at 4:00 in the afternoon or... Yeah, I was just... I was kinda thinking about that.
• 21:37
Like a- We have a couple of those where we were out- Like a daytime, daytime full moon, not... You don't have to do it at night. It can be- [laughs]... it can be in the sky during the day.
• 21:43
Those, those port runs that you and I did back when it f- when you had the T-shirts made and stuff- Those were, those were great... those were freaking [laughs] incredible. Those were great.
• 21:51
It'd be like 5:30 in the afternoon. It, it... The moon is super bright coming off the lake. It's light enough to take pictures. Oh, so freaking beautiful. We'll have to look into that. It was like riding on the moon.
• 22:05
'Cause we do need to do some more. I'm looking for a urban f- so because of the lack of beach, it's like we still ride fat bikes around, but I'd like to put together something that showcases fat bikes again.
• 22:18
Few years ago, we had, uh, uh, Surly, the Surly folks were up here with their demo truck. Oh, that was fun. And we, we did a ride that we packed in some pretty good fat bike.
• 22:30
You know, you wouldn't do it on not a fat bike, basically, but we're working on that. Someday we'll figure that out. Yeah. Uh... BikeToberfest. BikeToberfest. Oh, shit. Let's do that. Shit, yeah. Wait.
• 22:47
I got a, I got that here. What is that? I have a picture of it because now it's officially out there, I guess, 'cause Scott- Kind of... I...
• 22:53
Scott Monday kind of threw- Yeah, but I'm, I'm actually getting it from the horse's mouth, where he's, like, refrained from the s- from the social media.
• 23:00
Oh, but we're not very social, and not many people listen to this show anyway, so. [laughs] Actually, I'm, I'm shooting him up to see if he wants to be on. Oh. Well, so- Yeah. As in said yes...
• 23:08
I mean, this is a, this is a- Full... this is BikeToberfest. Where's my pictures I got? Would you like to be on... Would you like to he- He doesn't have to talk about BikeToberfest. He could call in, too...
• 23:18
he can just be on the show. Yeah. Uh, BikeToberfest 2022 Rain or Stars. Uh, doo, doo, doo, doo, 15th, 6:30. Of October. Yeah. Clementine's down there on the south side. Nice. Yep. On- Way south. Yep. Love that. Clement.
• 23:34
Way south. And I think it's probably gonna go souther- Mm-hmm... than that. I am- He likes to go souther... I am of the mind, being clever here, of throwing my rig on the bus,
• 23:48
taking that as far down, as close to that as humanly possible, then do the ride from there. And kinda slide- And then, and then I can ride back from there. Yeah.
• 23:58
But, but building in riding all the way there, doing all that ride, and then all the way back. I've done that, and I have been a shell of a fucking man the next day. Well- I mean [laughs]... there is that...
• 24:08
it is just like, "I can't..." You know, just it... Mm, mm, mm. Yep. With age comes wisdom. God, we're getting old. See, the other thing is you could ride an electric bike down there. Yeah, we could do that.
• 24:19
That's what I did the- Righty-hoo... couple, not the fat... A couple times ago. I know. I know. I saw how- We rode the e-bike down... I saw how relaxed- It's really fast, but then-...
• 24:27
and groovy you were going as I was fucking going right into the wind. Just pushed the button. Yeah, I sort of left you in the dust as I- Yep. I was like- "Bye."... "I'm stopping at Subatic because I need refueling."
• 24:39
[laughs] Yeah, man. Yeah, I'm gonna go. Hey, dude. Hey, here's something cool if you ever come to the shop here in Milwaukee where we are. Yeah, where are you? Did you see them? We got two pinball machines. I saw them.
• 24:49
Are they functional? One of them for sure, although right now the ejector is not kicking the ball into the plunger area. Okay. But it does work. It's very- Did, did you play the other night? Yeah.
• 25:01
It's a little relaxed and grooving. Right. You can play- I like that... okay. It's like, boom. It's like on ether. Yeah. It's, it's- And it's got some-... pinball on ether... slow motion thing going on.
• 25:10
I like it First of all, there's only three digits. Nice. So, 999- So bumpers are worth five... well, after, like, 20 minutes of playing you're at, like, 400 points, and you're like- Right...
• 25:23
"And I'm beating those guys by, like, double 'cause they're only at 180 or something." But- I like it... but it's, but it's- That's, yeah, that's how the Saturday ride ended up here. Oh, sh- I forgot.
• 25:32
Oh yeah, you guys came over here after that. Yeah, 'cause there was a jam session. It's, it's a Bally's, so it's an old school Bally's, uh, four-player big day machine. I, it just... I don't know, it's old school.
• 25:43
It's awesome. We had fun. Oh yeah, there's Doug right there playing it, or there's Marilyn playing it, actually. I got a picture. I, I, picture in action.
• 25:52
Uh, yeah, so we got pinball machines, so you can come and check that out. That's good. Carried on a stick, come here. I think I'm gonna- Come here. Okay. Come here one, free candy. Now that, now that we're gonna...
• 26:01
Oh, s- [laughs] Because the stupid, the stupid raver- [coughs]... sound system is supposed to go away that takes up so much space- [coughs] Excuse me... I might get the, uh, the RC racetrack set back up out there too.
• 26:11
Ooh. So we can, we can play all winter long in here. We don't have to just ride bikes around in the snow, but we can, but we also- Yeah. We don't want to... could just play around in here.
• 26:19
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, fuck. Oh, I mean, sorry. Hey, darn. Uh, I gotta push a button. Mm. Uh, excuse me. Hello, caller, who do we have on the line? Hello? Dave fucking Lone.
• 26:33
Yeah, don't use your speaker- Yeah, hello... Dave Lone. Please push your face into your phone. Oh, fuck. All right, I, I gotta call you back, though, everybody. My iPad. Got... Oh. [laughs] All right. Can't hear you.
• 26:46
Bye, Dave. Call back. I'll- Call back... I'll answer again. Bye, Dave. Maybe. Hold on, actually. Hold- Oh. Oh. Do it. Got... What? Dave. Dave. Anyway, we were just talking about Dave, D-F. So to fill the time- G-T...
• 27:02
what was the question that you gave me? Or what am I supposed to do with this? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I just pulled him out of the hat and thought I'd bring him in. All right. See? He called back really fast.
• 27:11
He must really wanna talk to us. Dave? Uh, hello and stuff. Dave? Oh, wait. I gotta push the button again. Dave. There we go. Hello. Hello. Hey, guy. Hey. Hey there. Hi, guy. [laughs] Long, long time no see.
• 27:25
What's happening? Hi, guy. Guy. Guy. Guy, what's up, guy? Hi, guy. Hey. Oh, you know what's new in the- Oh, nothing... hey, you, you know what's new in the Call-In Studio web interface? What?
• 27:34
Ban caller is now a button I can push. Oh, we can ban him for life. [laughs] Oh, god. Yeah, fine, whatever. Ban me. All right. Fuck you. [laughs] I have the power. Whatever you think anyway. What's going on, dude?
• 27:47
Nothing. Um, just hanging at home. Um, just on our way home from Conejos and, um- Nice... hanging with some other friends, and, um, got a pretty wicked buzz going on right now.
• 28:00
Uh- Um- If you listen to the previous part of the show before you called in, we did talk about moms and, and dad, and what I was trying to figure out is what was that long-ass, uh,
• 28:11
bike, the t- the trike tandem thingy they had called? What was that? Who made that thing? Oh, the, uh, they, they still have a, uh, vision recumbent tandem. Right on, yeah.
• 28:20
The thing was, like, as long as- It's not, it's not a trike. Oh, it's just a- It, it, it's, yeah... okay, it is just a tandem. Okay. Wow. Yeah, right on. Okay. It's a two-wheeler. Gotcha.
• 28:28
Um, that, that, that's in their garage, and you can, whoever wants it can come get it. [laughs] [laughs] Well, we could put an electric motor on the thing.
• 28:37
They, they could have, they could have mom's tandem too, or, uh, recumbent too. Um, they could probably [laughs] impound it for now. He don't r- he rides his bike very rarely. Why, why did they get into the recumbents?
• 28:49
What was, what was that all about? Do you have a, a story behind that? Um, well, they both had recumbents, and during the recumbent cra- what? Early '90s? Late '90s? It lasted, like, a week or two. Yeah.
• 29:05
[laughs] But they, they actually, um, they, they, they both learned those back when my dad was commuting on his, uh, bike, and, um, she got one too, and she would ride around.
• 29:16
She'd do her errands on the fucking bike, which was really cool- Mm-hmm... 'cause moms was a, you know, until she couldn't, she was a cyclist. And, um, they, they got the tandem.
• 29:27
They, they actually did a 880-mile ride around mo- uh, Wisconsin, like a week-long fucking trip around Wisconsin- Damn [coughs] Damn... um, on that thing. Yeah, I was- Um-...
• 29:40
I was relating earlier how it's like his- It, it's a cool machine, but it, it, it's been sitting for quite a few years. Um, so it's gonna need a lot of, um,
• 29:49
not, a lot, a lot of grease removal and whatnot, and, uh, you know, it's got a, it's got a Haze hub on the front ready for a disc brake. [laughs] Nice.
• 29:58
Um, it's got a drum brake on the back, and it's got brakes all around it. Um, at one point I was gonna have, like, you know, 10 brakes on it, but, you know, [laughs] um,
• 30:09
that came down from that little, um- They, they found out two worked... pardon me? They found out that two worked and didn't need 10 brakes. Um, yeah. We put a drag brake on it. Well, they, they had a trailer. Oh, okay.
• 30:24
So, yeah, I, I, I was gonna do a trailer brake, but, so long before I did my trailer brake, um, and they did some touring on it.
• 30:32
Um, they, they put a, they put the drum brake on the back for a drag brake along with the, um, V brake. Um, so, you know, it, it, it's, it's a heavy-ass recumbent and, you know- Mm-hmm...
• 30:43
if you're going down some hills, you know, you, you need some brakes on that thing. Especially when you got old folks trying to fucking control the thing.
• 30:50
[laughs] Yeah, and, and flying under the radar and nobody can see 'em and yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, at least they didn't get run over or anything, did they? Well, one time they did, yeah. [laughs] What?
• 31:03
But that was right in the neighborhood, wasn't it? Yeah, that was, uh, that was a few blocks from home. That put Mom in the hospital for a few days. Um, she lost a kidney to that. Holy moly. Oh my God. Yeah, yeah.
• 31:16
That, that, that was years and years ago. It's something, uh, Mom, Mom got a picture out of it. She was happy with that. [laughs] Wow. [laughs] She, she, she wasn't mad about that. Um, but yeah, they did get hit once.
• 31:31
Yeah, this car just, like, gunned it off the stop sign and, like, hit the back of it and, like, took 'em both out at once. Wow. Wow. Yeah. I always thought they were- Yeah...
• 31:39
kinda weird to ride on the street 'cause they're so low. It just seems to me that an upright bike, you're a little bit- Yeah... more visible. It's like Brody, where he would be all- Right...
• 31:47
like drunk, like, like- Well, they, they always had, like-... drunk recumbenting... they had, they had a flag on it at least, so. It's like, no, dude. Yeah. Well, I mean- Yeah... you have to have something.
• 31:54
Otherwise, you're, like, going underneath semi-trucks and- Right. Yeah... and drifting behind them underneath the trailer there and stuff. Yeah, Smoking the Bandit style shit. Right? Yeah. So- But yeah, it's cool.
• 32:05
Um, thanks for showing up, Greg. Um, it, it, you know, uh, it, it was a good ceremony. Um, we went to the Eckbach, and someone else was celebrating a fucking funeral there. I'm like, "What the fuck?
• 32:18
Who the-" [laughs] Yeah. It's like, it's my, it's my day. [laughs] So, uh, and then we started drinking with them, so yeah, it, it was cool. Um, whatever. I'm home now. Uh, things are all right. Um,
• 32:33
appreciate the love from everybody, and we, uh, we have someone else that visited, uh, Forest Home, and- That's right, yeah. We can help- It's New Year's. Yeah. We can- Jewish New Year.
• 32:44
We can do, uh, some kinda Steel Israel or something Steel Israel. Steel Israel... and roll through there... used to go there every year, so. And it's, you know, where, where, where Marth- It's-...
• 32:53
where Martha is buried is, is this prairie area, so eventually it'll, it'll just become, you know, overgrown and all we'll have is a GPS coordinate- Right... to get to it. [laughs] Yeah, yeah.
• 33:04
We, we know where, we know where she is. It's, uh, it's, it's a natural burial. Um, no chemicals, no embalming, no fucking incarceration or incineration or whatever and- [laughs] Incarceration Jesus... um.
• 33:16
[laughs] So the l- the least amount of fuss possible. The, the funniest thing is when we're driving out of there, my sister sends this text, you know, a group text with the fucking gravestone that says, "Dick" on it.
• 33:28
[laughs] Oh, yeah, I saw that on the way in, 'cause it- [laughs] I'll tell you what. Yeah, right on. Well, I- Sorry...
• 33:34
it took, it, it took, like, three minutes to get out of there, and it took us, like, 20 minutes to get in. I was like, "What? Wait. This-" Right. Those guys were really- Oh, you know...
• 33:43
but we got to, I mean we- It, it was a nice parade... she's, she's buried with, uh- It, it was, it was, it w- Say, she's buried with all the old, uh, the beer barons there. Not, she's not too far away from 'em, right?
• 33:54
Oh, yeah. Yeah. She got all the- Yeah, she's in, she's in good company... Blatz's and the, um, Pabst's and the Best's... fucking Juno, Kilbourn, all, all, all the Milwaukee founders. She's in really good company. Yeah.
• 34:03
Absolutely. Uh, Pop's has got a spot reserved right next to her, shit like that. So. Pop's looked good, by the way. Yeah. He looked really good. He's, he's, he seems to be doing well. Yeah. Yeah.
• 34:14
The, the last couple weeks were brutal on him, but yeah. Sure. Um, it's over now, and let, you know, stuff. Um, but yeah, he, you know, he's, he's been, he's still running and doing his thing and whatnot, and,
• 34:33
um, it's just, uh, just time to move on and worry about the next one, you know? Yep. Right on, man. Ooh. All right, dude. Well, thanks for, uh, calling in. I, I was, you know, I was honored to be there.
• 34:46
I know that you didn't have that many people show up, but, uh, sometime down the road we'll have a memorial for- Yeah... your mom, too, and a lot- Th- thanks for telling me, Dave... lots of- Oh, yeah.
• 34:53
We're definitely doing it. And, um, I, I, I was thinking about, like, you know, we can do an event at the Holler House and, you know, and tell them exactly where she is. So, like, some people- That's a good idea.
• 35:06
Uh-huh... but yeah, we're, we're, we're, we are planning a memorial service. I, I'm not sure they're gonna take all my suggestions, but, you know, whatever. [laughs] We'll see what happens. No one would.
• 35:14
[laughs] No one would. TFL, don't follow once. Screw it. [laughs] Right. [laughs] All right, guys. It's great having you. You have a great night, sir. See you everywhere. [laughs] Love you, brother. Later, bro.
• 35:24
Love you too, man. Take it easy. Talk to you later. Bye. Okay, bye. All right. All right, everybody. Oh, Mr. Lohnes. I'm glad Dave called in because- That's sad news, man. Well, it's, you know, I mean, it was, uh,
• 35:39
it was a nice service, and I'm glad that he... Marcus was there. I would, that, you know, and, uh, there was peoples, but just not a lot of outsiders yet. So we'll have all the other- Miscreants...
• 35:53
the other folk for the, for the big shindig. Right. The, the remembrance or whatever you might wanna call it. Celebration of life. Celebration of life, and boy howdy, let me tell you. Uh, well,
• 36:06
f- four, four sons that actually lived a long time, and a one daughter who is the youngest, so. And the cutest. Let's not rule out the cutest. Yeah, true. I mean, way cuter than any of the boys. Oh, goddamn right.
• 36:23
[laughs] I mean, Dave, sorry, dude, I love you, but you're motherfucking ugly. Ruth, yeah, Ruth has bought a couple bikes. She's, she's a- Yeah, Ruth's a sweetheart and a half... uh, she's a cyclist, too.
• 36:31
It's kind of a cycling family, uh, except for the two stalwart brothers of the, of the- She's just-... St. Thomas Island... she's such a wonderful human being to meet. Right on. BVI, BVI, BVI. St.
• 36:45
Thomas is American territory. All right. 'Merica. Oh. I'm still British. U- UVI. 'Merica. UVI. 'Mer, 'Merica. There. All right, everybody. Well, thank you for, uh- I'll try to stop spouting smarts... snoozing.
• 36:58
Going over the extra few minutes- That's-... to talk to Mr. Lohnes. That's awesome. I'm glad he called. And, uh- Cool... anyway, you know what? We'll do this again next week.
• 37:08
Some, not, probably not the same show that we did this week, but it'll be similar in that you probably won't wanna listen to it either. [laughs] So thank you very much. Uh, come, come again. Bye, y'all.
• 37:21
  [upbeat rock music]
