- 1:45lot in store throughout the course of this week as

- 1:52you should know, make your plans whether you're driving up
- 1:56to Dallas for the game or just hanging out here
- 1:58down there to tune in to our special Red River
- 2:02preview show Friday afternoon at two o'clock from Bar W,
- 2:08which is on Maple right, is it BARW that that's correct?
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, on on Maple Avenue.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Brand new bar And from what we've heard so far,
- 2:16it's it's a great spot to hang out and gonna
- 2:19be able even better spot to hang out with us
- 2:21on Friday.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I think it is in the old building where if
- 2:25you know Dallas and you know great bars, there was
- 2:28a great bar for years, the Stoneley p which was
- 2:30across the street from the Stoneley Hotel, which is still there,
- 2:34but the Stoneley p they had this is the great bar,
- 2:37and this one they're bar w So we're looking forward
- 2:41to bringing you the program from that on Friday afternoon
- 2:46from two to six. That's our red River preview show.
- 2:50So you don't even have to worry about saying rivalry
- 2:52a third alliterative word. You can just say red River
- 2:56Preview and that'll be Friday afternoon. Of course, our coverage
- 3:02of the all state Red River rivalry matchup between Texas
- 3:06and Oklahoma begins Saturday morning at eleven thirty and the
- 3:11kickoff is probably gonna be around to forty five I'm hearing,
- 3:20probably right by the time all a said and done.
- 3:22But eleven thirty is the airtime here all on the
- 3:25zone for Long Orange Game Day with Cam and my
- 3:28cards and Mark Henry from the fairgrounds. You guys will
- 3:32be boots on the ground. You'll be on the fairgrounds
- 3:36of the State Fair taxas correct, we will and so
- 3:38if you're out there looking for a good pregame show.
- 3:41We're gonna be near the Old Mill End, which is
- 3:44pretty close to Big Text. I think it's on the
- 3:46corner of Grand Avenue and First Avenue, so.
- 3:49Speaker 3: A lot of foot traffic through that area, a lot
- 3:51of foot traffic. And it's it's pretty close to the
- 3:53stadium as well, so you know, come out again. We're
- 3:56gonna be on from eleven thirty to one thirty, myself
- 4:00of my cards, Mark Henry, as we are every week
- 4:02for Longhorn's game day, and gonna have a lot of
- 4:04fun guests on this week some Texas insiders, owe you insiders,
- 4:08former players.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It's gonna be a lot of fun this weekend. There
- 4:12was a time, a long time ago when I used
- 4:16to take dates to.
- 4:17Speaker 3: The Old mill in Oh really wow, I said, you
- 4:21can hear some of those stories.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Not much to tell, just dates over there.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But anyway, it's on the fairgrounds and yeah, not far
- 4:28from Big Text. Oh the folks, this is a Big
- 4:32Text of talking to you. Welcome to the State Fair
- 4:37of Texas anyway, so it'll be pretty close. Remember that
- 4:44your Big Text caught on fire. Yeah, I was scary,
- 4:47just burned. Yea. His clothes were quite flammable and kind
- 4:52of went up in flames on that. Speaking of going
- 4:55up in flames, this this business of the top five
- 5:01or five of the top eleven ranked teams in the
- 5:03country losing over the weekend. The Vanderbilt Alabama game I mentioned,
- 5:09it's the first time that Vanderbilt has beaten Alabama in
- 5:11forty years. That was in Tuscal loose in eighty four,
- 5:15and it was the first time they've beaten them in
- 5:19Nashville since nineteen seventy six. I want you to think
- 5:23about this for a minute. Vanderbilt wins Arkansas knocks off
- 5:27Tennessee sixteen to twelve, nineteen fourteen.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I guess it was so they beat Tennessee.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So you know, with all of this conversation about the
- 5:40relative strength of the long warns SEC schedule, take a
- 5:44look at it now in Texas, A and M blasting Missouri.
- 5:49All three of those teams, all three of those teams
- 5:53beating top ten ranked teams, and Texas has to play
- 5:58road games at all three of those places. They have
- 6:01to go to Nashville at the end of October to
- 6:04play Vanderbilt, they have to go to Fayetteville to play
- 6:08Arkansas November sixteenth, and they have to go to College
- 6:12Station on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So when you're.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Talking about the Texas schedule, keep some of those things
- 6:17a mind. Oh oh, by the way, a very good
- 6:19Kentucky team will be coming in and we'll come in
- 6:25and we'll play in Austin on November twenty third.
- 6:30Speaker 2: She got that.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Even Florida went over the weekend beat UCF. They'll be
- 6:35here on November ninth. All of Texas remaining opponents who
- 6:42played of the weekend one an unbeaten of the weekend.
- 6:46So that's that's something to consider about that. The Alabama
- 6:49Vanderbilt game was was a noteworthy for several reasons. One,
- 6:57obviously this year magnitude of a Vanderbilt beating Alabama, but
- 7:02the way in which they did it. They did it
- 7:05the way that the Service academies pull off wins. Remember
- 7:10remember when Army played Oklahoma so were tough a few
- 7:12years ago. They kept the ball. They just you know,
- 7:15you squeezed a life, slowly suffocating your team by having
- 7:20time at possession. They had it for forty two minutes plus,
- 7:24so better than two thirds of the possession time went
- 7:27the way of the commodores. They were never, never, once
- 7:31forced into a three and out. That might be the
- 7:34most mind boggling number of them all that not one
- 7:39time during the course of the day was Vanderbilt forced
- 7:44into a three and out. And they seemingly had answers
- 7:47every time when Alabama would answer, then they would answer.
- 7:49Bama kept it close, and then Vanderbilt would have an answer.
- 7:53And there were some noteworthy performances including the guy you
- 8:02called games that he played in, I called games that
- 8:05he played in. Cedric Alexander from LBJ scored a couple
- 8:09of big touchdowns and then caught the pass to that
- 8:11big first down to keep it the clock running and
- 8:14keep possession going for Vanderbilt.
- 8:17Speaker 2: So he had that.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And I don't know if folks recognized the name Eli Stowers,
- 8:23but Eli Stowers had a very big part in the
- 8:27game with what he did catching the balls receiver. Eli
- 8:31Stowers is a former Texas high school quarterback. In fact,
- 8:35Eli Stowers was the quarterback of the Denton Guy or Wildcats,
- 8:38who played Westlake in the state championship game when Kate
- 8:42Klubnick was playing for Westlake. Stowers went down early in
- 8:47the game, first few minutes of the game. Knee injury
- 8:51into the season and they had to play a Wow,
- 8:55it's true freshman high school. He usual a freshman, I
- 8:57would say true freshman in the high school with a
- 8:58freshman ninth grader named Jackson Arnold. So imagine the symmetry
- 9:05of all of that. So Stowers was out. Stours eventually
- 9:10matriculates to Vanderbilt and comes up with some big catches.
- 9:16So he had two former Texas high school football stars
- 9:20who made an impact in that game for Vanderbilt to
- 9:23beat Alabama. And then on top of that, the quarterback
- 9:26Diego Pavia was something else. I watched him play when
- 9:29he played at New Mexico State at a program that
- 9:32was just completely forgotten. Jerry Killed did a really good
- 9:36job while he was there building a back up, and
- 9:38Pavia was his quarterback. Pavia a guy from Albuquerque whose
- 9:42hometown school, New Mexico showed no interest in it whatsoever.
- 9:47Texas Tech said you can come as a walk on,
- 9:49but he believed he could be a scholarship quarterback, and
- 9:54he went to junior college and then ultimately New Mexico
- 9:58State and then the Vanderbilt and he engineers this massive
- 10:04upset win for the Commodores over Alabama. So if Texas
- 10:09should happen to win tonight, I mean this Saturday against Oklahoma,
- 10:13and then the following Saturday night at home against Georgia,
- 10:16they would carry the number one ranking into Vanderbilt, whe
- 10:19Vanderbilt would have a second opportunity to knock off a
- 10:22number one ranked team during the course of the year
- 10:25if that were to happen. All right, coming up, we're
- 10:28gonna hear more from Long Horns head coach Steve Sarkisian.
- 10:30Whill we continue here on this Monday Longhorns Monday edition
- 10:36of the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen under
- 10:38the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
