- 0:00Speaker 1: Mosiah chapter eight. And it came to pass that after
- 0:05Speaker 1: King Limhai had made an end of speaking to his people,
- 0:08Speaker 1: for he spake many things unto them, and only a
- 0:11Speaker 1: few of them have I written in this book, he
- 0:13Speaker 1: told his people all the things concerning their brethren who
- 0:16Speaker 1: were in the land of Sarahemla. And he caused that
- 0:19Speaker 1: Ammon should stand up before the multitude and rehearse unto
- 0:22Speaker 1: them all that had happened unto their brethren from the
- 0:26Speaker 1: time that Zenith went up out of the land, even
- 0:29Speaker 1: until the time that he himself came up out of
- 0:31Speaker 1: the land. And he also rehearsed unto them the last
- 0:34Speaker 1: words which King Benjamin had taught them, and explained them
- 0:38Speaker 1: to the people of King Lemhai, so that they might
- 0:41Speaker 1: understand all the words which he spake. And it came
- 0:44Speaker 1: to pass that after he had done all this, that
- 0:47Speaker 1: King Lmhai dismissed the multitude and caused that they should
- 0:51Speaker 1: return every one unto his own house. And it came
- 0:54Speaker 1: to pass that he caused the plates which contained the
- 0:57Speaker 1: record of his people from the time that they left
- 1:00Speaker 1: the land of Zarahemla, should be brought before Ammon, that
- 1:03Speaker 1: he might read them. Now. As soon as Ammon had
- 1:06Speaker 1: read the record, the king inquired of him to know
- 1:09Speaker 1: if he could interpret languages, and Ammon told him that
- 1:12Speaker 1: he could not. And the King said, unto him, being
- 1:16Speaker 1: greed for the afflictions of my people, I caused that
- 1:19Speaker 1: forty and three of my people should take a journey
- 1:22Speaker 1: into the wilderness, that thereby they might find the land
- 1:25Speaker 1: of Zarahemla, that we might appeal unto our brethren to
- 1:29Speaker 1: deliver us out of bondage. And they were lost in
- 1:32Speaker 1: the wilderness for the space of many days. Yet they
- 1:35Speaker 1: were diligent and found not the land of Zarahemla, but
- 1:38Speaker 1: returned to this land, having traveled in a land among
- 1:41Speaker 1: many waters, having discovered a land which was covered with
- 1:45Speaker 1: bones of men and of beasts, and was also covered
- 1:48Speaker 1: with ruins of buildings of every kind, having discovered a
- 1:52Speaker 1: land which had been peopled with a people who were
- 1:55Speaker 1: as numerous as the hosts of Israel. And for a
- 1:58Speaker 1: testimony that the things that they had said are true,
- 2:01Speaker 1: they have brought twenty four plates which are filled with engravings,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and they are of pure gold. And behold also they
- 2:08Speaker 1: have brought breastplates which are large and are of brass
- 2:12Speaker 1: and of copper, and are perfectly sound. And again they
- 2:15Speaker 1: have brought swords. The hilts thereof have perished, and the
- 2:18Speaker 1: blades thereof were cankered with rust. And there is no
- 2:21Speaker 1: one in the land that is able to interpret the
- 2:23Speaker 1: language or the engravings that are on the plates. Therefore,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I said, unto THEE, canst thou transolate? And I say,
- 2:30Speaker 1: unto THEE again, knowest thou of any one that can translate?
- 2:34Speaker 1: For I am desirous that these records should be translated
- 2:37Speaker 1: into our language. For perhaps they will give us a
- 2:41Speaker 1: knowledge of a remnant of the people who have been
- 2:43Speaker 1: destroyed from whence these records came. Or perhaps they will
- 2:46Speaker 1: give us a knowledge of this very people who have
- 2:49Speaker 1: been destroyed, And I am desirous to know the cause
- 2:53Speaker 1: of their destruction. Now, Ammon said unto him, I can
- 2:57Speaker 1: assuredly tell thee O King of a man that can
- 3:00Speaker 1: translate the records, for he has wherewith that he can
- 3:04Speaker 1: look and translate all records that are of ancient date.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And it is a gift from God. And the things
- 3:10Speaker 1: are called interpreters, and no man can look in them
- 3:14Speaker 1: except he be commanded lest he should look for that
- 3:17Speaker 1: he ought not, and he should perish. And whosoever is
- 3:21Speaker 1: commanded to look in them, the same is called seer.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And behold, the king of the people who are in
- 3:27Speaker 1: the land of Zarahimla is the man that is commanded
- 3:30Speaker 1: to do these things, and who has this high gift
- 3:32Speaker 1: from God. And the king said that a seer is
- 3:36Speaker 1: greater than a prophet. And Ammon said that a seer
- 3:40Speaker 1: is a revelator, and a prophet also. And a gift
- 3:42Speaker 1: which is greater can no man have except he should
- 3:45Speaker 1: possess the power of God, which no man can. Yet
- 3:49Speaker 1: a man may have great power given him from God.
- 3:53Speaker 1: But a seer can know of things which are past,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and also of things which are to come. And by
- 3:58Speaker 1: them shall all things be revealed, or rather shall secret
- 4:01Speaker 1: things be made manifest, and hidden things shall come to light,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and things which are not known shall be made known
- 4:08Speaker 1: by them. And also things shall be made known by
- 4:11Speaker 1: them which otherwise could not be known. Thus God has
- 4:15Speaker 1: provided a means that man, through faith might work mighty miracles.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Therefore he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And now, when Amon had made an end of speaking
- 4:27Speaker 1: these words, the king rejoiced exceedingly and gave thanks to God, saying,
- 4:32Speaker 1: doubt less a great mystery is contained within these plates,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and these interpreters were doubtless prepared for the purpose of
- 4:39Speaker 1: unfolding all such mysteries to the children of men. Oh,
- 4:44Speaker 1: how marvelous are the works of the Lord, And how
- 4:48Speaker 1: long doth he suffer with his people? Yea, And how
- 4:51Speaker 1: blind and impenetrable are the understandings of the children of men.
- 4:55Speaker 1: For they will not seek wisdom, neither do they desire
- 4:58Speaker 1: that she should rule over them. Yea, they are as
- 5:02Speaker 1: a wild flock which fleeth from the shepherd and scattereth,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and are driven and are devoured by the beasts of
- 5:08Speaker 1: the forest Mosiah chapter nine. I Zenoth, having been taught
- 5:16Speaker 1: in all the language of the Nephites, and having had
- 5:19Speaker 1: a knowledge of the land of Nephi or of the
- 5:21Speaker 1: land of our father's first inheritance, and having been sent
- 5:24Speaker 1: as a spy among the Lamanites, that I might spy
- 5:27Speaker 1: out their forces, that our army might come upon them
- 5:31Speaker 1: and destroy them. But when I saw that which was
- 5:35Speaker 1: good among them, I was desirous that they should not
- 5:38Speaker 1: be destroyed. Therefore I contended with my brethren in the wilderness,
- 5:43Speaker 1: for I would that our ruler should make a treaty
- 5:45Speaker 1: with them, but he, being an austere and a bloodthirsty man,
- 5:50Speaker 1: commanded that I should be slain. But I was rescued
- 5:54Speaker 1: by the shedding of much blood, for father fought against father,
- 5:59Speaker 1: and brother against brother, until the greater number of our
- 6:03Speaker 1: army was destroyed in the wilderness, and we returned those
- 6:07Speaker 1: of us that were spared to the land of Zarahemla
- 6:10Speaker 1: to relate that tale to their wives and their children.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And yet I, being over zealous to inherit the land
- 6:17Speaker 1: of our fathers, collected as many as were desirous to
- 6:21Speaker 1: go up to possess the land, and started again on
- 6:24Speaker 1: our journey into the wilderness to go up to the land.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But we were smitten with famine and sore afflictions, for
- 6:31Speaker 1: we were slow to remember the Lord our God. Nevertheless,
- 6:35Speaker 1: after many days wandering in the wilderness, we pitched our
- 6:39Speaker 1: tents in the place where our brethren were slain, which
- 6:42Speaker 1: was near to the land of our fathers. And it
- 6:44Speaker 1: came to pass that I went again with four of
- 6:46Speaker 1: my men into the city in unto the king, that
- 6:49Speaker 1: I might know of the disposition of the king, and
- 6:51Speaker 1: that I might know if I might go in with
- 6:53Speaker 1: my people and possess the land in peace. And I
- 6:56Speaker 1: went in unto the king, and he covenanted with me
- 6:59Speaker 1: that I am I might possess the land of lee
- 7:01Speaker 1: He Nephi and the land of Shylam. And he also
- 7:03Speaker 1: commanded that his people should depart out of the land.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And I and my people went into the land that
- 7:09Speaker 1: we might possess it. And we began to build buildings
- 7:13Speaker 1: and to repair the walls of the city, yea, even
- 7:16Speaker 1: the walls of the city of lee He Nephi and
- 7:18Speaker 1: the city of Shylam. And we began to till the ground, Yea,
- 7:23Speaker 1: even with all manner of seeds, with seeds of corn,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and of wheat, and of barley, and with neus, and
- 7:29Speaker 1: with shiume, and with seeds of all manner of fruits.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And we did begin to multiply and prosper in the land.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Now it was the cunning and the craftiness of King
- 7:39Speaker 1: Layman to bring my people into bondage, that he yielded
- 7:43Speaker 1: up the land that we might possess it. Therefore it
- 7:47Speaker 1: came to pass that after we had dwelt in the
- 7:49Speaker 1: land for the space of twelve years, that King Layman
- 7:52Speaker 1: began to grow uneasy, lest by any means my people
- 7:56Speaker 1: should wax strong in the land, and that they could
- 7:59Speaker 1: not overpower them and bring them into bondage. Now they
- 8:02Speaker 1: were a lazy and an idolatrous people. Therefore they were
- 8:05Speaker 1: desirous to bring us into bondage, that they might glut
- 8:09Speaker 1: themselves with the labors of our hands, Yea, that they
- 8:13Speaker 1: might feast themselves upon the flocks of our fields. Therefore
- 8:18Speaker 1: it came to pass that King Layman began to stir
- 8:20Speaker 1: up his people, that they should contend with my people.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Therefore there began to be wars and contentions in the land.
- 8:28Speaker 1: For in the thirteenth year of my reign, in the
- 8:30Speaker 1: land of Nephi, away on the south of the land
- 8:33Speaker 1: of Shilem, when my people were watering and feeding their
- 8:36Speaker 1: flocks and tilling their lands, a numerous host of Lamanites
- 8:40Speaker 1: came upon them and began to slay them, and to
- 8:43Speaker 1: take off their flocks and the corn of their fields. Yea,
- 8:46Speaker 1: And it came to pass that they fled all that
- 8:49Speaker 1: were not overtaken, even into the city of Nephi. And
- 8:51Speaker 1: they did call upon me for protection. And it came
- 8:54Speaker 1: to pass that I did arm them with bows and
- 8:56Speaker 1: with arrows, with swords, and with scimeters, and with club ubs,
- 9:00Speaker 1: and with slings, and with all manner of weapons which
- 9:02Speaker 1: we could invent. And I and my people did go
- 9:05Speaker 1: forth against the Lamanites to battle. Yea, in the strength
- 9:09Speaker 1: of the Lord did we go forth to battle against
- 9:11Speaker 1: the Lamanites. For I and my people did cry mightily
- 9:14Speaker 1: to the Lord that he would deliver us out of
- 9:17Speaker 1: the hands of our enemies. For we were awakened to
- 9:20Speaker 1: a remembrance of the deliverance of our fathers. And God
- 9:23Speaker 1: did hear our cries and did answer our prayers, and
- 9:27Speaker 1: we did go forth in his might. Yea, we did
- 9:29Speaker 1: go forth against the Lamanites, And in one day and
- 9:32Speaker 1: night we did slay three thousand and forty three. We
- 9:36Speaker 1: did slay them, even until we had driven them out
- 9:38Speaker 1: of our land. And I myself, with mine own hands,
- 9:42Speaker 1: did help to bury their dead. And behold to our
- 9:46Speaker 1: great sorrow and lamentation. Two hundred and seventy nine of
- 9:50Speaker 1: our brethren were slain Mosiah chapter ten. And it came
- 9:59Speaker 1: to pass that we again began to establish the kingdom,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and we again began to possess the land in peace.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And I caused that there should be weapons of war
- 10:08Speaker 1: made of every kind, that thereby I might have weapons
- 10:11Speaker 1: for my people against the time the Lamanites should come
- 10:13Speaker 1: up again to war against my people. And I set
- 10:16Speaker 1: guards round about the land, that the Lamanites might not
- 10:19Speaker 1: come upon us again unawares and destroy us. And thus
- 10:23Speaker 1: I did guard my people and my flocks, and keep
- 10:26Speaker 1: them from falling into the hands of our enemies. And
- 10:30Speaker 1: it came to pass that we did inherit the land
- 10:32Speaker 1: of our fathers for many years yea, for the space
- 10:35Speaker 1: of twenty and two years. And I did cause that
- 10:38Speaker 1: the men should till the ground and raise all manner
- 10:40Speaker 1: of grain, and all manner of fruit of every kind.
- 10:43Speaker 1: And I did cause that the women should spin and toil,
- 10:47Speaker 1: and work, and work all manner of fine linen yea,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and cloth of every kind, that we might clothe our nakedness.
- 10:54Speaker 1: And thus we did prosper in the land. Thus we
- 10:56Speaker 1: did have continual peace in the land for the space
- 10:59Speaker 1: of twenty in two years. And it came to pass
- 11:02Speaker 1: that King Layman died and his son began to reign
- 11:05Speaker 1: in his stead, and he began to stir his people
- 11:09Speaker 1: up in rebellion against my people. Therefore, they began to
- 11:12Speaker 1: prepare for war and to come up to battle against
- 11:16Speaker 1: my people. But I had sent my spies out round
- 11:20Speaker 1: about the land of Shemlon, that I might discover their preparations,
- 11:23Speaker 1: that I might guard against them, that they might not
- 11:27Speaker 1: come upon my people and destroy them. And it came
- 11:30Speaker 1: to pass that they came up upon the north of
- 11:32Speaker 1: the land of Shyleam with their numerous hosts men armed
- 11:36Speaker 1: with bows and with arrows, and with swords, and with scimeters,
- 11:40Speaker 1: and with stones and with slings, and they had their
- 11:43Speaker 1: heads shaved, that they were naked, and they were girded
- 11:46Speaker 1: with a leathern girdle about their loins. And it came
- 11:49Speaker 1: to pass that I caused that the women and children
- 11:51Speaker 1: of my people should be hid in the wilderness. And
- 11:54Speaker 1: I also caused that all my old men that could
- 11:57Speaker 1: bear arms, and also all my young men that were
- 12:00Speaker 1: able to bear arms, should gather themselves together to go
- 12:03Speaker 1: to battle against the Lamanites. And I did place them
- 12:07Speaker 1: in their ranks, every man according to his age. And
- 12:10Speaker 1: it came to pass that we did go up to
- 12:12Speaker 1: battle against the Lamanites. And I even I in my
- 12:15Speaker 1: old age, did go up to battle against the Lamanites.
- 12:18Speaker 1: And it came to pass that we did go up
- 12:20Speaker 1: in the strength of the Lord to battle. Now, the
- 12:24Speaker 1: Lamanites knew nothing concerning the Lord nor the strength of
- 12:27Speaker 1: the Lord. Therefore they depended upon their own strength. Yet
- 12:31Speaker 1: they were a strong people as to the strength of men.
- 12:34Speaker 1: They were a wild and ferocious and a bloodthirsty people,
- 12:38Speaker 1: believing in the tradition of their fathers, which is this
- 12:42Speaker 1: believing that they were driven out of the land of
- 12:44Speaker 1: Jerusalem because of the iniquities of their fathers, and that
- 12:48Speaker 1: they were wronged in the wilderness by their brethren, and
- 12:51Speaker 1: they were also wronged while crossing the sea, and again
- 12:54Speaker 1: that they were wronged while in the land of their
- 12:56Speaker 1: first inheritance after they had crossed the sea. And all
- 12:59Speaker 1: this because that Nephi was more faithful in keeping the
- 13:02Speaker 1: commandments of the Lord. Therefore he was favored of the Lord.
- 13:06Speaker 1: For the Lord heard his prayers and answered them, and
- 13:09Speaker 1: he took the lead of their journey in the wilderness.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And his brethren were wroth with him because they understood
- 13:14Speaker 1: not the dealings of the Lord. They were also wroth
- 13:17Speaker 1: with him upon the waters, because they hardened their hearts
- 13:20Speaker 1: against the Lord. And again they were wroth with him
- 13:23Speaker 1: when they had arrived in the Promised Land, because they
- 13:26Speaker 1: said that he had taken the ruling of the people
- 13:29Speaker 1: out of their hands, and they sought to kill him.
- 13:33Speaker 1: And again they were wroth with him because he departed
- 13:35Speaker 1: into the wilderness as the Lord had commanded him, and
- 13:38Speaker 1: took the records which were engraven on the plates of brass,
- 13:41Speaker 1: for they said that he had robbed them. And thus
- 13:45Speaker 1: they have taught their children that they should hate them,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and that they should murder them, and that they should
- 13:50Speaker 1: rob and plunder them, and do all they could to
- 13:52Speaker 1: destroy them. Therefore they have an eternal hatred towards the
- 13:56Speaker 1: children of Nephi. For this very cause has King Layin,
- 14:00Speaker 1: by his cunning and lying craftiness and his fair promises,
- 14:03Speaker 1: deceived me that I have brought this my people up
- 14:06Speaker 1: into this land, that they may destroy them. Yea, And
- 14:10Speaker 1: we have suffered these many years in the land. And
- 14:13Speaker 1: now I zenap after having told all these things unto
- 14:16Speaker 1: my people concerning the Lamanites, I did stimulate them to
- 14:20Speaker 1: go to battle with their might putting their trust in
- 14:22Speaker 1: the Lord. Therefore we did contend with them face to face.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And it came to pass that we did drive them
- 14:29Speaker 1: again out of our land, and we slew them with
- 14:31Speaker 1: a great slaughter, even so many that we did not
- 14:35Speaker 1: number them. And it came to pass that we returned
- 14:37Speaker 1: again to our own land, and my people again began
- 14:41Speaker 1: to tend their flocks and to till their ground. And now, I,
- 14:45Speaker 1: being old, did confer the kingdom upon one of my sons.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Therefore I say no more, and may the Lord bless
- 14:54Speaker 1: my people, Amen, Mosiah chapter eleven. And now it came
- 15:04Speaker 1: to pass that Zenop conferred the kingdom upon Noah, one
- 15:07Speaker 1: of his sons. Therefore Noah began to reign in his stead.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And he did not walk in the ways of his father.
- 15:15Speaker 1: For behold, he did not keep the commandments of God.
- 15:19Speaker 1: But he did walk after the desires of his own heart.
- 15:22Speaker 1: And he had many wives and concubines. And he did
- 15:25Speaker 1: cause his people to commit sin and do that which
- 15:28Speaker 1: was abominable in the sight of the Lord Yea. And
- 15:31Speaker 1: they did commit hortems and all manner of wickedness. And
- 15:36Speaker 1: he laid a tax of one fifth part of all
- 15:38Speaker 1: they possessed a fifth part of their gold and of
- 15:41Speaker 1: their silver, and a fifth part of their ziph and
- 15:45Speaker 1: of their copper, and of their brass and their iron,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and a fifth part of their fatlings, and also a
- 15:51Speaker 1: fifth part of all their grain. And all this did
- 15:54Speaker 1: he take to support himself and his wives and his concubines,
- 15:57Speaker 1: and also his priests and their wives their concubines. Thus
- 16:01Speaker 1: he had changed the affairs of the kingdom, for he
- 16:05Speaker 1: put down all the priests that had been consecrated by
- 16:08Speaker 1: his father, and consecrated new ones in their stead, such
- 16:12Speaker 1: as were lifted up in the pride of their hearts. Yea.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And thus they were supported in their laziness and in
- 16:18Speaker 1: their idolatry, and in their hortoms by the taxes which
- 16:21Speaker 1: King Noah had put upon his people. Thus did the
- 16:25Speaker 1: people labor exceedingly to support iniquity. Yea. And they also
- 16:30Speaker 1: became idolatrous because they were deceived by the vain and
- 16:33Speaker 1: flattering words of the king and priests, for they did
- 16:36Speaker 1: speak flattering things unto them. And it came to pass
- 16:39Speaker 1: that King Noah built many elegant and spacious buildings, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: he ornamented them with fine work of wood, and of
- 16:46Speaker 1: all manner of precious things, of gold and of silver,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and of iron, and of brass, and of ziph and
- 16:53Speaker 1: of copper. And he also built him a spacious palace
- 16:57Speaker 1: and a throne in the midst thereof all of which
- 17:00Speaker 1: was of fine wood, and was ornamented with gold and
- 17:03Speaker 1: silver and with precious things. And he also caused that
- 17:07Speaker 1: his workmen should work all manner of fine work within
- 17:10Speaker 1: the walls of the temple, of fine wood and of
- 17:13Speaker 1: copper and of brass. And the seeds which were set
- 17:17Speaker 1: apart for the high priests, which were above all the
- 17:20Speaker 1: other seeds, he did ornament with pure gold. And he
- 17:23Speaker 1: caused a breastwork to be built before them, that they
- 17:26Speaker 1: might rest their bodies and their arms upon, while they
- 17:29Speaker 1: should speak, lying in vain words to his people. And
- 17:33Speaker 1: it came to pass that he built a tower near
- 17:35Speaker 1: the temple, Yea, a very high tower, even so high
- 17:38Speaker 1: that he could stand upon the top thereof and overlook
- 17:41Speaker 1: the land of Shylam, and also the land of Shemlon,
- 17:44Speaker 1: which was possessed by the Lamanites. And he could even
- 17:48Speaker 1: look over all the land round about. And it came
- 17:51Speaker 1: to pass that he caused many buildings to be built
- 17:53Speaker 1: in the land of Shylam, and he caused a great
- 17:56Speaker 1: tower to be built on the hill north of the
- 17:58Speaker 1: land Shalam, which had been a result for the children
- 18:00Speaker 1: of Nephi at the time they fled out of the land.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And thus he did do with the riches which he
- 18:06Speaker 1: obtained by the taxation of his people. And it came
- 18:10Speaker 1: to pass that he placed his heart upon his riches,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and he spent his time in riotous living with his
- 18:15Speaker 1: wives and his concubines. And so did also his priests
- 18:20Speaker 1: spend their time with harlots. And it came to pass
- 18:23Speaker 1: that he planted vineyards round about in the land, and
- 18:26Speaker 1: he built wine presses and made wine in abundance, and
- 18:30Speaker 1: therefore he became a wine bibber, and also his people.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the Lamanites began to
- 18:37Speaker 1: come in upon his people upon small numbers, and to
- 18:40Speaker 1: slay them in their fields, and while they were tending
- 18:43Speaker 1: their flocks, and King Noah sent guards round about the
- 18:46Speaker 1: land to keep them off, but he did not send
- 18:49Speaker 1: a sufficient number, and the Lamanites came upon them and
- 18:52Speaker 1: killed them, and drove many of their flocks out of
- 18:55Speaker 1: the land. Thus the Lamanites began to destroy them and
- 18:59Speaker 1: to exercise their hatred upon them. And it came to
- 19:03Speaker 1: pass that King Noah sent his armies against them, and
- 19:06Speaker 1: they were driven back, or they drove them back for
- 19:09Speaker 1: a time. Therefore they returned, rejoicing in their spoil. And
- 19:13Speaker 1: now because of this great victory, they were lifted up
- 19:16Speaker 1: in the pride of their hearts. They did boast in
- 19:19Speaker 1: their own strength, saying that their fifty could stand against
- 19:22Speaker 1: thousands of the Lamanites. And thus they did boast and
- 19:26Speaker 1: did delight in blood and the shedding of the blood
- 19:28Speaker 1: of their brethren. And this because of the wickedness of
- 19:32Speaker 1: their king and priests. And it came to pass that
- 19:36Speaker 1: there was a man among them whose name was Abinadai.
- 19:39Speaker 1: And he went forth among them and began to prophesy, saying, behold,
- 19:44Speaker 1: thus saith the Lord. And thus hath he commanded me, saying,
- 19:47Speaker 1: go forth and say unto this people, Thus saith the Lord,
- 19:51Speaker 1: Woe be unto this people, for I have seen their
- 19:54Speaker 1: abominations and their wickedness and their hortoms. And except they repent,
- 19:59Speaker 1: I will visit them them in mine anger and accept
- 20:02Speaker 1: they repent and turn to the Lord their God. Behold,
- 20:05Speaker 1: I will deliver them into the hands of their enemies. Yea.
- 20:08Speaker 1: And they shall be brought into bondage, and they shall
- 20:11Speaker 1: be afflicted by the hand of their enemies. And it
- 20:15Speaker 1: shall come to pass that they shall know that I
- 20:17Speaker 1: am the Lord their God and ama jealous God, visiting
- 20:21Speaker 1: the iniquities of my people. And it shall come to
- 20:24Speaker 1: pass that accepts this people repent and turn unto the
- 20:28Speaker 1: Lord their God, they shall be brought into bondage, and
- 20:32Speaker 1: none shall deliver them except it be the Lord, the
- 20:35Speaker 1: Almighty God. Yea. And it shall come to pass that
- 20:39Speaker 1: when they shall cry unto me, I will be slow
- 20:42Speaker 1: to hear their cries. Yea. And I will suffer them
- 20:45Speaker 1: that they be smitten by their enemies. And except they
- 20:48Speaker 1: repent in sacloth and ashes and cry mightily to the
- 20:52Speaker 1: Lord their God, I will not hear their prayers. Neither
- 20:55Speaker 1: will I deliver them out of their afflictions. And thus
- 20:59Speaker 1: saith the Lord. And thus hath he commanded me. Now
- 21:02Speaker 1: it came to pass that when ABINEDI had spoken these
- 21:05Speaker 1: words unto them, they were wroth with him and sought
- 21:08Speaker 1: to take away his life. But the Lord delivered him
- 21:11Speaker 1: out of their hands. Now, and King Noah had heard
- 21:14Speaker 1: of the words which Abinedi had spoken unto the people,
- 21:17Speaker 1: He was also wroth, and he said, who is Abinadai
- 21:21Speaker 1: that I and my people should be judged of him?
- 21:24Speaker 1: Or who is the Lord that shall bring upon my
- 21:26Speaker 1: people such great affliction? I command you to bring Abinedi
- 21:30Speaker 1: hither that I may slay him. For he has said
- 21:33Speaker 1: these things that he might stir up my people to
- 21:36Speaker 1: anger one with another, and to raise contentions among my people.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Therefore I will slay him. Now the eyes of the
- 21:44Speaker 1: people were blinded. Therefore they hardened their hearts against the
- 21:48Speaker 1: words of Abinedai, and they sought from that time forward
- 21:51Speaker 1: to take him. And King Noah hardened his heart against
- 21:55Speaker 1: the word of the Lord, and he did not repent
- 21:58Speaker 1: of his evil doings. End of Mosia, chapters eight through eleven.
