- 2:04Speaker 1: How you doing? Chad? All right, listen, here's what we
- 2:06Speaker 1: gotta talk about. We had so many freaking entries. It
- 2:09Speaker 1: was amazing, like so many entries. I didn't even I like.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I was floored. And what's great is um the creativity
- 2:18Speaker 1: behind these. How amazing is the creativity and some of
- 2:21Speaker 1: these from a from from the way they are crafted,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but also the research people send in is astounding. That's
- 2:31Speaker 1: what amazed me the most is that they not only
- 2:34Speaker 1: put some thought behind the prop, but they they put
- 2:38Speaker 1: the research in to back it up and and included
- 2:41Speaker 1: some some graphs and charts and all kinds of statistics.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I mean, that was really really well done. I love it.
- 2:49Speaker 1: It's it's one of my favorite things that we do
- 2:51Speaker 1: every year. UM, I need to I need to call
- 2:53Speaker 1: some of these out. So here's a prop from Bill
- 2:58Speaker 1: Greaser Greycer Building to win. Sorry Bill, um, but it
- 3:04Speaker 1: is worthy of reading it out of the podcast because
- 3:06Speaker 1: of the work he put into it. I made a
- 3:08Speaker 1: special note of this. At any point in Super Bowl
- 3:10Speaker 1: fifty two, well, one of the teams demonstrate demonstrate quote
- 3:15Speaker 1: Minnisota nice unquote by declining a penalty. He wrote, no,
- 3:19Speaker 1: plus three eight, yes, minus four twenty. But then he
- 3:22Speaker 1: did a um bar chart the number of NFL playoff
- 3:26Speaker 1: games since two thousand and fifteen for each number of
- 3:29Speaker 1: decline penalties. So, uh, there were one decline penalty in
- 3:36Speaker 1: fifteen games two and seven, three and three, four and
- 3:40Speaker 1: one um number of decline number of games by quarter
- 3:45Speaker 1: a first decline penalty, So like, when was the first
- 3:48Speaker 1: decline penalty happening? It was. It's amazing, It's it's totally amazing.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He wrote a wonderful note to us. Uh, and so
- 3:57Speaker 1: I'm really impressed with sort of support and enthusiasm for this. UM.
- 4:04Speaker 1: What do you think of that problem? Yeah, yeah, no,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I we the team and I kind of went through
- 4:08Speaker 1: a bunch of them. I sifted through and kind of
- 4:10Speaker 1: filtered them down. And that was one of them that
- 4:13Speaker 1: the team and I were looking at us to whether
- 4:15Speaker 1: we put it up on the board and how we'd
- 4:17Speaker 1: put it up, And we were thinking of maybe putting
- 4:19Speaker 1: it up with just an over under one declined penalty
- 4:23Speaker 1: and then just put odds on that and that the
- 4:26Speaker 1: chances of it following on one were pretty great, which
- 4:28Speaker 1: would have been a push. So, I mean, we we
- 4:31Speaker 1: looked at all these from a bookmaking point of view
- 4:34Speaker 1: as well. But that was a good one. I like that.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Here's another one that I love. This was from Brian
- 4:40Speaker 1: you whose proposal was a big baller back well at
- 4:44Speaker 1: least three offensive players with first or last names beginning
- 4:47Speaker 1: with B score a rushing or receiving touchdown. The prop
- 4:51Speaker 1: is for the number of players that score the rushing
- 4:53Speaker 1: or receiving touchdowns, not for the total amount of touchdowns
- 4:57Speaker 1: scored by the players. Um, here's what I liked about
- 5:01Speaker 1: this email. It wasn't so much the prop, although props
- 5:05Speaker 1: to you, Brian for sending them. Uh. He wrote this
- 5:09Speaker 1: after listening to last year's prop that podcast, I thought
- 5:13Speaker 1: the winner of the contest sounded familiar, so I looked
- 5:17Speaker 1: him up. His name is Evan Young through social media
- 5:21Speaker 1: and it turned out they knew each other through mutual friends.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Thanks for the unlikely connection and keep up the good work.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I kind of feel like when that, I'm like, I'm
- 5:30Speaker 1: Casey Cason when I'm reading these. But here's what great?
- 5:37Speaker 1: So Brian you sends this email and it's fantastic and
- 5:40Speaker 1: talking about Evan Young in the connection and what do
- 5:42Speaker 1: we have? We have a prop from Evan Young. How
- 5:46Speaker 1: great is that? Here's a prop from Evian Young. UM,
- 5:49Speaker 1: let's see. I hope you're well this year flew by.
- 5:53Speaker 1: See my submission UM moon landing field goal prop well
- 5:59Speaker 1: with some of the two longest field goals made be
- 6:04Speaker 1: over or under ninety yards um if only one field
- 6:09Speaker 1: goals made the under winds. Apolo eleven was the spaceflight
- 6:13Speaker 1: that landed the first humans in the moon. Neil Armstrong
- 6:17Speaker 1: and Buzz Aldrin were aboard the lunar module Eagle. On July,
- 6:25Speaker 1: Armstrong proclaimed the ego has landed. When I think of
- 6:29Speaker 1: moon shots with regards to football, booming along field goals
- 6:33Speaker 1: comes to mind. Um, two astronauts landed on the moon
- 6:38Speaker 1: on seven seven plus twenty plus sixty nine equals six
- 6:43Speaker 1: and then he's got a whole bunch of other notes
- 6:45Speaker 1: and statistical background. God, that's good. Yeah, I know, he
- 6:50Speaker 1: came pretty close to being the only two time winner. Huhh.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I mean it's really impressive, like the moon landing, the creativity,
- 6:59Speaker 1: the phrase ali G, the math, the extra notes. I
- 7:03Speaker 1: think we should clap for Evan. Yeah, for sure, let's clap.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I'm I'm clapping. You can't. You can't hear it, But
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'm clapping. Why why can't I hear it? Is it
- 7:14Speaker 1: because now I'm hearing hawking outside my window? That is
- 7:17Speaker 1: so loud I can concentrate. Um all right, hold on.
- 7:23Speaker 1: There was there's a couple of guys who put in
- 7:25Speaker 1: multiple entries that like more than five entries or five
- 7:28Speaker 1: or more. That was Royce Hall and Eric Bigio. Royce's
- 7:33Speaker 1: were particularly interesting because at one point one of his
- 7:36Speaker 1: entries included like the stock price of US Bank Corp.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Which I thought was really really well gone. Um, you
- 7:45Speaker 1: know you don't get that very often. So all in all,
- 7:48Speaker 1: like um, oh, well, Eric, So did you see Eric
- 7:51Speaker 1: bios So he was a former He used to run
- 7:58Speaker 1: the sports book at the Aria. No way. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:02Speaker 1: So I like his little ps on who's gonna work
- 8:05Speaker 1: the longest? And he listed all of the all of
- 8:09Speaker 1: the team members at the Orleans Sports Book And I'm
- 8:12Speaker 1: making myself a big favorite that day to to work
- 8:15Speaker 1: the most hours. So just just so he knows, well,
- 8:18Speaker 1: we should call them out. So it's Bob Scucci, Rick Reinhardt,
- 8:21Speaker 1: Dan Garcia, Jake Colth uh Dida's conceptio one and Lynda Cross. Um.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I think we know that Linda, by virtue of working
- 8:30Speaker 1: with you uh is basically on seven in a tortured state,
- 8:36Speaker 1: even when she's not in the office. She deserves a
- 8:39Speaker 1: special uh An award for that, for for what she
- 8:42Speaker 1: does and putting up with me, and then and then
- 8:44Speaker 1: Jake also, I mean Jake take also gets the brunt
- 8:49Speaker 1: of it. Jake is like an angel. Yeah, he is
- 8:54Speaker 1: just the best. He's making things go over there, all right,
- 8:57Speaker 1: guess what it's time for the winner. It's time for
- 9:01Speaker 1: the winner, Uh, the winner. Should we get him on
- 9:04Speaker 1: the phone, Michael, Should we call him and let me
- 9:08Speaker 1: and let me just preface it because you you did
- 9:10Speaker 1: mention the creativity involved. It's not so much just the
- 9:14Speaker 1: prop itself and whether or not it's complicated or or
- 9:18Speaker 1: or you know, how creative that part of it is.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It's also the name that gets associated with it, like
- 9:25Speaker 1: like last year the Millennial Falcon wanted you mentioned Evan Young,
- 9:29Speaker 1: uh you know, on itself, it was just the total
- 9:33Speaker 1: number of Matt Ryan's past attempts times his number of completions.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I mean, in itself, it wasn't that uh complicated, but
- 9:42Speaker 1: it was the fact that they named it the Millennial
- 9:44Speaker 1: Falcon and that had such relevance to that that kind
- 9:47Speaker 1: of pushed it over the top. And that's kind of
- 9:49Speaker 1: the same thing with it with this one. Why don't
- 9:52Speaker 1: we let the guy come on so you can talk
- 9:54Speaker 1: about it absolutely? What do you think of that sounds
- 9:56Speaker 1: good to me? Okay, it is time to an the
- 10:00Speaker 1: winner of our I don't even know what annual year
- 10:04Speaker 1: this is, Scooch, but it's the winner of our annual
- 10:06Speaker 1: get you a prop up in Vegas contests, And as
- 10:10Speaker 1: everybody knows, we love this contest. And we just went
- 10:13Speaker 1: through all the people who tried to win and did
- 10:17Speaker 1: not but their entries were really amazing and fantastic, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: we appreciate everyone playing along. Um, but the winner blew
- 10:26Speaker 1: us away with his creativity, with how he pandered and
- 10:31Speaker 1: the simplicity of his prop, which is important to Scooch
- 10:37Speaker 1: because it's complicated to get to just write these things
- 10:39Speaker 1: on the board in whites. The winner a lawyer from
- 10:45Speaker 1: Los Angeles, California. His name is Rash Sadat. Welcome a Rash.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Thank you guys, thank you so much for having me
- 10:55Speaker 1: on the podcast. This is uh, this is really cool.
- 10:57Speaker 1: So um, I appreciate that, especially in light of you know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: how how great the previous winners have been. This is
- 11:03Speaker 1: just it's really an honor scool sat Rush, Hey, Rush,
- 11:07Speaker 1: good job. I really like your prop and actually props
- 11:10Speaker 1: because you did send a couple of other suggestions, but uh,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I really love the simplicity and the creativity surrounding what
- 11:19Speaker 1: you called the prop and how you arrived at it. So, uh,
- 11:22Speaker 1: why don't you tell us what the prop is and
- 11:26Speaker 1: uh kind of how you came up with it and
- 11:28Speaker 1: uh just kind of your thoughts surrounding it. Sure, yeah,
- 11:32Speaker 1: thank you so much, scood. Yeah, so um, I think
- 11:35Speaker 1: I think first and foremost. As as Chad just mentioned,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I figured pandering would be the best way to go
- 11:40Speaker 1: in order to sort of maximize my chances of when
- 11:43Speaker 1: we are so transparent and like's not it's not even funny.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Um yeah, no, I I definitely Well, I do remember
- 11:54Speaker 1: a prop a few years ago that was based on
- 11:57Speaker 1: the letters and the word or Leans. So that was
- 12:00Speaker 1: sort of in the back of my head. So um.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But but seriously, though, I I sort of I think
- 12:05Speaker 1: about that saying a lot. And then the saying is
- 12:07Speaker 1: the right side is the winning side? Um? I've heard
- 12:10Speaker 1: Chad say quite a few times, and uh, I mean, honestly,
- 12:13Speaker 1: it's just really a great way to sort of troll
- 12:16Speaker 1: someone who just took a bad beat, right. Uh yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 1: So I remember a few years ago that happened to me,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and I was I was talking to my friend Karthik. Uh.
- 12:25Speaker 1: He also listens to the pot. He's sort of like
- 12:27Speaker 1: my sports gambly buddy, and uh, after I took the
- 12:30Speaker 1: bad beat, I'm complaining about it. He looks me in
- 12:31Speaker 1: the eye and he says, come on, dude, the right
- 12:34Speaker 1: side is the winning side. Um. And as as you
- 12:37Speaker 1: sort of expect that caused me to, um, you know,
- 12:40Speaker 1: go into sort of like a lengthy and passion speech
- 12:43Speaker 1: about how how that was wrong. So UM, basically I
- 12:47Speaker 1: just wanted to come up with a prop that would
- 12:49Speaker 1: that would test the validity of it. UM. And you know,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I thought about doing, you know, team with the most
- 12:54Speaker 1: first downs to win the game, team with better the
- 12:57Speaker 1: better yards per play average to win the game. But UM,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I sort of figured that total yards would be a
- 13:04Speaker 1: little bit less complicated for better. So the prop was
- 13:08Speaker 1: the right side is the winning side question mark UM
- 13:11Speaker 1: and team with most yards from scrimmage to win the game.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So that was sort of the thinking behind it um
- 13:19Speaker 1: I I sort of. I also I also thought and
- 13:21Speaker 1: and this is it reminded me of one of the
- 13:23Speaker 1: sort of classic Super Bowl props, which is will either
- 13:26Speaker 1: team score three times unanswered? Um. And it reminded me
- 13:30Speaker 1: of that because it's sort of counterintuitive, right, The answer
- 13:33Speaker 1: isn't necessarily or the proper handicap rather isn't necessarily what
- 13:37Speaker 1: you'd think, because I think most people would think, you know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: most yards teams are gonna win, it's pretty easy. But
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think in reality that you know, the doesn't work
- 13:46Speaker 1: out that way. All the time. So a couple of
- 13:47Speaker 1: things here, go ahead, go ahead, And that's what drew
- 13:50Speaker 1: me to the prop as well. From a bookmaking standpoint,
- 13:54Speaker 1: we're always looking for things that look very obvious and
- 13:57Speaker 1: can entice the public, but usually it turns out the
- 14:00Speaker 1: other way. And the prop that you just referenced was
- 14:02Speaker 1: the exact one that that I was thinking of, that
- 14:05Speaker 1: we you know, first put up twenty years ago. That
- 14:08Speaker 1: when the public first saw it, uh, you know, it
- 14:11Speaker 1: looked real easy. You know, will either team score three
- 14:13Speaker 1: times three consecutive times? Uh, you know, three unanswered scores?
- 14:18Speaker 1: And everyone said said, no, they're not going to score
- 14:21Speaker 1: three unanswered These are two good teams, not realizing how
- 14:24Speaker 1: often it happens. Now, after having that prop up for
- 14:27Speaker 1: so many years, I think people have kind of picked
- 14:29Speaker 1: up on it. But this is another example of something
- 14:32Speaker 1: that looks very obvious that may not be as obvious
- 14:34Speaker 1: as it seems. So what's interesting here is there's a
- 14:37Speaker 1: few things that I want to say. Uh. Number one
- 14:40Speaker 1: that was that's the one we chose. The right side
- 14:42Speaker 1: is the winning side, uh. And it's the team with
- 14:45Speaker 1: most years from squimmage wins the game. Yes, minus win
- 14:48Speaker 1: eighty no plus win sixty. Um, here's your quote. You
- 14:51Speaker 1: did a little research, and it turns out the team
- 14:54Speaker 1: that loses the yardage battle wins more often than you think.
- 14:57Speaker 1: This postseason, the winning team has lost the yardage battle
- 15:01Speaker 1: in five of ten games. I'm guessing Scooch would generate
- 15:04Speaker 1: a decent amount of square action on yes, even if
- 15:08Speaker 1: he shaded the line a little bit. All accurate, All true.
- 15:11Speaker 1: You also had a prop a submission i'm a i'm
- 15:15Speaker 1: a buy that guy at buffet, which I love that
- 15:18Speaker 1: you spelled out i'm a i am a as one
- 15:21Speaker 1: word like in scooches jersey uh jersey accent um. And
- 15:27Speaker 1: then uh so, then there was um. When all hope
- 15:33Speaker 1: is lost, all that's left is relief either team to
- 15:37Speaker 1: lead about twenty one plus points in the fourth quarter. Um. Oh,
- 15:40Speaker 1: and i'm a i'm a buy that guy at buffet?
- 15:43Speaker 1: Was Lawrence guy records a sack. Um, It's funny to
- 15:47Speaker 1: me that we chose the right side as the winning
- 15:49Speaker 1: side because in our slack one of our slack channels,
- 15:51Speaker 1: uh at Action Network. Um, someone used the phrase because
- 15:57Speaker 1: someone else said, like, you know, sometimes good bets lose
- 16:02Speaker 1: and sometimes bad bets win. Someone else jumped in the
- 16:05Speaker 1: right side as the winning side, and eventually I had
- 16:08Speaker 1: to be like, don't bring your you know, philosophy in here.
- 16:11Speaker 1: There's winners and losers. There's no moral victories. Um So, Scooch,
- 16:20Speaker 1: what are you gonna do with this? How are you
- 16:21Speaker 1: going to price this? I like the odds that he
- 16:24Speaker 1: gave us. I'm gonna start. I'm gonna start with that one,
- 16:26Speaker 1: like I said, because it's uh it favors the yes,
- 16:30Speaker 1: but uh, probably not as much as the line would reflect.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And I'll let the money dictate it and uh and
- 16:36Speaker 1: see where they go with it. But I but I
- 16:40Speaker 1: like the fact that it's not uh long, real long
- 16:43Speaker 1: odds of something like you know, minus ten dollars or
- 16:46Speaker 1: minus eight dollar prop uh. The ones that that are
- 16:49Speaker 1: real close to you anywhere between minus one ten and
- 16:53Speaker 1: two dollars usually generate a lot more action. I mean,
- 16:56Speaker 1: this is great, so great. How long did it take
- 17:01Speaker 1: you to do the research for rash Um? Probably about
- 17:04Speaker 1: I would say, like thirty minutes to an hour. Maybe,
- 17:07Speaker 1: Um I didn't It's obviously wasn't super intensive. I just
- 17:10Speaker 1: looked at, you know, ten games from the postseason, so
- 17:13Speaker 1: I'm sure. I'm sure the guys that the Orleans will
- 17:15Speaker 1: have more more data at their disposal than I do. Yeah, well,
- 17:19Speaker 1: we'll look at it a little bit more. If we
- 17:21Speaker 1: have to tweak it, we will, But I just off
- 17:23Speaker 1: the top of it, on the face of it, it
- 17:24Speaker 1: looks like it's it's pretty pretty good. Odds were any
- 17:28Speaker 1: of your clients um injured in any way by the
- 17:32Speaker 1: neglect you spending them to research this prop bet? You know,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I hope not. Um, you know, hopefully this sort of
- 17:41Speaker 1: sharpened my probabilistic thinking skills and you know, by extension,
- 17:45Speaker 1: my ability to negotiate settlements. So maybe in a way
- 17:48Speaker 1: it sort of helped him. I know, I like the
- 17:51Speaker 1: way you think. Right, So how he turned that on you?
- 17:54Speaker 1: He did? He did? He got me goosed me really well?
- 17:56Speaker 1: Um A rash is a former poker player turned lay,
- 18:00Speaker 1: so you can understand why he can use phrases like
- 18:03Speaker 1: probabilistic and negotiation in the same sentence. Well it's pretty good, right, Yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 1: Hey he said, he said he was. You listened to
- 18:13Speaker 1: the to the show prior to prior to Scooch being
- 18:17Speaker 1: on it? What what show was that? So this was
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know I probably could have clarified it was before
- 18:24Speaker 1: you started calling it the Scooch Pod, and before before
- 18:27Speaker 1: you Scooch or a sort of regular weekly guest, So
- 18:31Speaker 1: that's probably what I should have said. I think I
- 18:35Speaker 1: think Scooch was just trying to be a little cocky
- 18:38Speaker 1: right there. And how could a show prior to Scooch
- 18:45Speaker 1: have existed? I was shocked that there was another show there. Yeah, exactly. Um, rosh,
- 18:50Speaker 1: what are you gonna do to celebrate uh winning this contest?
- 18:54Speaker 1: How are you going to celebrate it? Um? Well, aside
- 18:57Speaker 1: from sort of as I told you my email, gloating
- 18:59Speaker 1: to my friends, which I've already done, I am going
- 19:02Speaker 1: to I'm actually gonna be in Vegas this weekend for
- 19:05Speaker 1: a bachelor party, um for my friend Thomas. So um,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I was hoping to just come down to the Orleans
- 19:11Speaker 1: and place a bet on this prop, which is is
- 19:13Speaker 1: really really a cool thing to be able to do.

- 20:27Speaker 1: Cousin Sal from the Jimmy Kimmel Show, from the Guest
- 20:31Speaker 1: the Lines podcast with Bill Simmons on the Ringer podcast network.
- 20:35Speaker 1: From Against All Odds, a very popular sports betting podcast
- 20:40Speaker 1: also on the Ringer. All around degeneracy and hijinks that
- 20:45Speaker 1: has made him popular The world over. Cousin sal good
- 20:48Speaker 1: to hear, good good Haggy in the pod, Buddy, what's
- 20:51Speaker 1: happening chat? Thanks for having me. This is fun. What
- 20:54Speaker 1: do you think of that introduction? I feel like I
- 20:55Speaker 1: got a lot of stuff in there that was pretty good.
- 20:57Speaker 1: You know, you said the whole introduct much of my take.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Fifteen minutes. I was like, oh, man, I really hope
- 21:02Speaker 1: he goes for it. Let's see if we can get
- 21:03Speaker 1: a Yeah. I think I actually And then fifteen seconds
- 21:09Speaker 1: and I just I added some extra pauses in there. Excellent, excellent,
- 21:14Speaker 1: It'll workout. Hey, are you are you sad about this
- 21:17Speaker 1: week or or in general, you're you're happy that you
- 21:20Speaker 1: know the big games coming up? Because I'm more or
- 21:22Speaker 1: less sad, I would say, I would say despondent about
- 21:26Speaker 1: football coming to an end. I'm so despondent that, um,
- 21:31Speaker 1: yesterday I stood at the bottom of the stairs in
- 21:33Speaker 1: my house and it was Sunday, about eleven thirty. Normally
- 21:36Speaker 1: when I'd be like hungering down. And you know, with
- 21:40Speaker 1: this new business like the Action Network, I'll be doing
- 21:43Speaker 1: a periscope or I'll be tweeting from the handle, or
- 21:45Speaker 1: like we'll be having a lot of email and Slack
- 21:48Speaker 1: exchanges about what our plan is going to be for
- 21:50Speaker 1: the day, how to drive people and all that kind
- 21:51Speaker 1: of stuff. At eleven thirty, UM, I stood at the
- 21:54Speaker 1: bottom of the stairs and I hit record on my
- 21:56Speaker 1: phone and I yelled up to my fourteen year old
- 21:59Speaker 1: and I said, he's, Zack, where are you? And he's like,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I'm upstairs. I'm like, do you want to come down?
- 22:05Speaker 1: And he just yells ah. And then I'm like, like,
- 22:09Speaker 1: do you wanna do you want to play chess? And
- 22:11Speaker 1: he goes no, and uh. Then I realized that's what
- 22:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna be spending my sunday's doing until September. Yeah, right, yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 1: that's the next Um, what the thirty Sundays are gonna
- 22:22Speaker 1: be like that? Yelling, yelling, it's Zach begging the play chess.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I've never realized how long it takes from the end
- 22:29Speaker 1: of the football season until the beginning of the football
- 22:31Speaker 1: season until yesterday at about thirty in the morning. That's
- 22:34Speaker 1: when that's when I kicked in. Yeah, I know. I
- 22:37Speaker 1: had a similar thing, although I bet the Pro Bowl. Yes,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I was telling tell him that the Simmons about this,
- 22:41Speaker 1: and just I needed just one more bad beach just
- 22:44Speaker 1: to close out the year. And I'm sure there's another
- 22:46Speaker 1: one coming Sunday. But uh, yeah, I don't know if
- 22:48Speaker 1: you followed it at all, you're probably yeah, people are
- 22:51Speaker 1: aware you were on the other side of that. Huh.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I was on the wrong side. I had the NFC
- 22:55Speaker 1: who was up twenty to three, which you know, I'm not.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I know it's gonna be a close and even at
- 23:00Speaker 1: one to three. Then I get Jared Goff who looked like,
- 23:03Speaker 1: you know, it's like it's uh the middle school year.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Jared Goff in there and it didn't didn't produce much
- 23:09Speaker 1: of an offense, but just the same seventeen with three
- 23:12Speaker 1: minutes left, and Sean Payton goes for it on fourth
- 23:15Speaker 1: and five at midfield, just typical Jean Payton fashion. They
- 23:20Speaker 1: they're not even close to converting. Uh Derek Carr comes
- 23:23Speaker 1: back and drives and they went and the players on
- 23:26Speaker 1: both sides couldn't have been happier with the results. They
- 23:29Speaker 1: were so they were, so they must have known what
- 23:32Speaker 1: you were doing. I feel like Sean Payton is actually
- 23:35Speaker 1: keenly aware of the point, spreading almost every scenario of
- 23:40Speaker 1: what will hurt people betting on the Saints or against
- 23:43Speaker 1: the Saints the most at all times. I agree, I think,
- 23:47Speaker 1: and I think he tunes it. He goes to Sports
- 23:49Speaker 1: Action and he looks to see where the money is
- 23:52Speaker 1: and he's got it hidden in his pocket. He's got
- 23:54Speaker 1: his phone. He goes to Sports Action. Appen, Yeah, you're right.
- 23:56Speaker 1: He uh. He decides who he's gonna screw over. You know,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I for for branding purposes, I need to tell you
- 24:03Speaker 1: that we've changed the name to Just Action. Oh I'm sorry,
- 24:06Speaker 1: Oh boy, all right, you know it's it's new. We
- 24:08Speaker 1: just did it. We just did it last literally last
- 24:10Speaker 1: week on the on the phone with me. You just
- 24:13Speaker 1: did it. We just did in honor of you. You
- 24:15Speaker 1: might not even have updated yet to get into the
- 24:18Speaker 1: new title. I like Action. I think I like Action better.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Now I have to say nice things about Action. So
- 24:23Speaker 1: that's great. I appreciate that. Um. But that's why I
- 24:26Speaker 1: feel about Sean Payton, because of course, I also had
- 24:29Speaker 1: a Super Bowl Future ticket that had the Saints and
- 24:31Speaker 1: the Jags going to the super Bowl at thirty to one,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and then I had a Jags ticket at twenty to
- 24:37Speaker 1: one and the Saints ticket at one. So it's about
- 24:40Speaker 1: a hundred and thirty seconds of sort of you know,
- 24:43Speaker 1: collective time away from all of that cashing and making
- 24:48Speaker 1: several several thousand dollars. Well, So that that's the point
- 24:51Speaker 1: of this this game coming up, Like, how can you
- 24:54Speaker 1: have a strong opinion? You have to if you're if
- 24:56Speaker 1: you're looking to sell listeners or whatever, views or whatever,
- 24:59Speaker 1: but you have to you have to pretend you know
- 25:01Speaker 1: what you're talking about. But both these teams are very
- 25:03Speaker 1: lucky to be in the situation they're in. So how
- 25:06Speaker 1: could you say that you know one of them is
- 25:08Speaker 1: going to play differently than they did last week or
- 25:11Speaker 1: two weeks ago in the in the Eagles case, when
- 25:14Speaker 1: they always scored fifteen points. You know, it's it's a
- 25:17Speaker 1: tough game. Which which way are you leaning? Or I'm
- 25:19Speaker 1: not gonna say I no, no, I completely disagree with you.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I actually bet the uh I bet the Eagles plus
- 25:25Speaker 1: five and a half last week, and I felt I
- 25:28Speaker 1: felt really really good about it. I wish I had
- 25:30Speaker 1: got him at six and a half, but um, I
- 25:33Speaker 1: was busy working and I couldn't, like I just couldn't
- 25:35Speaker 1: get down fast enough. And then also I was I
- 25:37Speaker 1: was a little bit on the fence, and then I
- 25:39Speaker 1: had when I talked to Scooch, you know, my partner
- 25:41Speaker 1: on the podcast. Um, he convinced me that Nick Foles
- 25:45Speaker 1: is just a better quarterback. Then sort of the line
- 25:48Speaker 1: had been reflecting and so um it's continued to get
- 25:51Speaker 1: that down and like, I am happy I got the
- 25:55Speaker 1: Eagles at five and a half. Well, that was smart.
- 25:58Speaker 1: But my point is, should the Eagles have been even playing?
- 26:01Speaker 1: You know, Julio Jones doesn't stumble in the end zone
- 26:04Speaker 1: and fall on that on that Matt Ryan rollout. I
- 26:07Speaker 1: think the Falcons are in the game against the Vikings
- 26:10Speaker 1: and it's a different story. I just I don't know.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Are you Are you confident in your bed either way
- 26:14Speaker 1: on Sunday? So I go you with sixty percent confidence,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I feel six. I gotta tell you something I might
- 26:20Speaker 1: have convinced myself, and it might be remember years ago,
- 26:23Speaker 1: we're going to both date ourselves here, but we are
- 26:26Speaker 1: older gentlemen now. Um. When the when the Niners played
- 26:29Speaker 1: the Chargers and that game opened at like fourteen, the
- 26:33Speaker 1: Niners are favored by like two touchdowns, and then over
- 26:36Speaker 1: the course of the two weeks it went lower and lower.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And lower, and like people had convinced themselves that the
- 26:42Speaker 1: Chargers had a chance in the game, right, And then
- 26:45Speaker 1: of course the Niners opened up and they scored like
- 26:47Speaker 1: the first play the game, and it's a blowout. And
- 26:49Speaker 1: so I want to believe that I'm on the right
- 26:52Speaker 1: side with the Eagles. So that's why I'm only six. Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 1: I mean this is not and this is like very
- 27:00Speaker 1: very generic way of looking at it. But if these
- 27:02Speaker 1: teams played a hundred times, well maybe the Patriots won
- 27:06Speaker 1: seventy times, and out of the seventy they cover four
- 27:08Speaker 1: and a half fifty times, so you're kind of you're
- 27:11Speaker 1: kind of right where it should be, right. It's yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 1: it's it's it's I feel like, if I'm gonna I
- 27:17Speaker 1: gotta take a side just from for for professional reasons,
- 27:21Speaker 1: I have to bet on the game, um, honey, I
- 27:24Speaker 1: have to bet on the game. It's yewise responsibility. Um.
- 27:29Speaker 1: And so if I'm going to bet on the game,
- 27:30Speaker 1: then I feel like the five and a half was
- 27:32Speaker 1: the right side. I don't think I would do four
- 27:33Speaker 1: and a half though, oh you know, okay, so for
- 27:36Speaker 1: this week, you would do five and a half, I
- 27:38Speaker 1: would do five and a half. That number is gone.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I can't say for certain I would do four and
- 27:41Speaker 1: a half. The Patriots historically in the Super Bowls have
- 27:44Speaker 1: kept their games relatively close, except for last year when
- 27:47Speaker 1: they had that, you know, the six points, only because
- 27:50Speaker 1: of the overtime. You haven't given me your take yet.
- 27:53Speaker 1: You haven't weighed in. I haven't. I know, I really
- 27:56Speaker 1: haven't decided yet. I'm leaning towards the Patriots, and only
- 27:59Speaker 1: because what you just mentioned. They played like dog crap
- 28:02Speaker 1: for three quarters last year in the big game and
- 28:05Speaker 1: still covered what would have been four and a half
- 28:07Speaker 1: five and a half points. And believe me, I had
- 28:09Speaker 1: the Falcons. I bought the hook. I had them plus
- 28:12Speaker 1: three and a half. So even even blowing three going
- 28:16Speaker 1: over time, I'm still mathematically I'm still in the game,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you know, especially if they get the ball. But yeah,
- 28:22Speaker 1: we all know how it ended up. So I just
- 28:25Speaker 1: it's what when do you want to because it's such
- 28:27Speaker 1: a long offseason, as we pointed out, where do you
- 28:31Speaker 1: want to pull your hair out? Less if you bet
- 28:33Speaker 1: against Brady and Belichick and one, or if you and lost,
- 28:37Speaker 1: or if you bet against the Eagles and Nick Foles
- 28:40Speaker 1: arose to the occasion, I kind of look at it
- 28:42Speaker 1: like that. I know that's not a real smart, sharp
- 28:46Speaker 1: versus square kind of way to approach it, but but
- 28:49Speaker 1: that's that is that is the right way to look
- 28:50Speaker 1: at it. So you basically saying, are you betting on?
- 28:54Speaker 1: And I have said this, I'm betting on Nick Foles
- 28:57Speaker 1: and Doug Peterson over Tom Brady and Belichick essentially, is
- 29:02Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But I guess I'm also saying I'm
- 29:05Speaker 1: betting on the Eagles defense, and I'm also betting on
- 29:10Speaker 1: their running game over what I think is collectively an
- 29:13Speaker 1: okay Patriots team. They're not like amazing, They're not one
- 29:17Speaker 1: of those teams that is dynastic. They are a really
- 29:20Speaker 1: good team that plays wonderfully smart, situational football and has
- 29:26Speaker 1: the greatest quarterback of all time and a merciless coach
- 29:29Speaker 1: who refuses to accept any anything less than perfect. Right. Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 1: and you know, I just convinced myself to bet the Patriots.
- 29:38Speaker 1: That's the whole thing. It's so crazy and go back
- 29:40Speaker 1: and forth. But yeah, and you know they don't factor
- 29:43Speaker 1: in that ESPN article, which I'm I'm sure it's still
- 29:47Speaker 1: looms large in the Hey, let's take care of business department.
- 29:51Speaker 1: As far as Bill Belichick goes, I know it's stupid
- 29:53Speaker 1: to consider that, but you'll consider home field advantages three points.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Not not in this game, of course, but when you
- 29:59Speaker 1: consider all these actors having been to the Super Bowl
- 30:01Speaker 1: before all these things, I would say that article counts
- 30:05Speaker 1: for three quarters of a point and still still should count,
- 30:08Speaker 1: you know what. I agree with that, And um, when
- 30:13Speaker 1: that article came out, when Seth Wickersham's story came out,
- 30:16Speaker 1: we actually ran a poll on Twitter and then we
- 30:19Speaker 1: did a story about it, sort of indicating does this
- 30:22Speaker 1: make you more or less likely to bet on the
- 30:25Speaker 1: Patriots and especially in that first game against Tennessee because
- 30:28Speaker 1: they were I think seven point favorites and you know,
- 30:30Speaker 1: relatively big um favorite in the in the playoffs and
- 30:34Speaker 1: they blew them out, and the majority of people I
- 30:36Speaker 1: spoke to, both on the square side and on the
- 30:38Speaker 1: sharp side, we're like, oh, I'm totally betting on the
- 30:40Speaker 1: Patriots now, Like this is the kind of thing that
- 30:43Speaker 1: they just focus in and hunker down and they are
- 30:45Speaker 1: as good as any team is going to be in
- 30:47Speaker 1: this scenario. Right, let me ask you this, because you
- 30:50Speaker 1: know better than than I do who are the sharps
- 30:53Speaker 1: these days? That over the years, the sharps have changed,
- 30:56Speaker 1: right who who? Who are the They're not these gangsters,
- 31:00Speaker 1: though I find it hard to believe that the gangsters
- 31:02Speaker 1: were had the wherewithal to get get it together and
- 31:06Speaker 1: bet on the right side. I guess if you're just
- 31:09Speaker 1: betting against the public, you've become a sharp. Or is
- 31:11Speaker 1: it more involved than that. It's a little more involved
- 31:14Speaker 1: than that. But these days, honestly, like it's not even
- 31:17Speaker 1: like their sharps and squares. It's more like there are sharps,
- 31:21Speaker 1: there are there are sharps who don't do it professionally
- 31:25Speaker 1: because they do other things. And then there are people
- 31:28Speaker 1: who are just so casual that they're kind of paying
- 31:30Speaker 1: attention but not really paying attention, and they end up
- 31:32Speaker 1: betting sort of like on the popular team UMR. But
- 31:36Speaker 1: that middle ground. You know, information has become so democratized,
- 31:41Speaker 1: and betting on sports has become so commonplace over the
- 31:45Speaker 1: last generation, like because of the Internet, because it's so
- 31:48Speaker 1: much more accessible with every offshore book and like, you know,
- 31:51Speaker 1: you've got a massive thing with Bovada, right, and you've
- 31:53Speaker 1: got a props page on Bovada, Bovada has helped turn
- 31:57Speaker 1: sports betting into something that anybody can do. And you
- 31:59Speaker 1: don't have to go down to your carpodaga, you don't
- 32:01Speaker 1: have to go to the alley behind the bar like
- 32:04Speaker 1: you can get it anywhere. And so all of a sudden,
- 32:05Speaker 1: there's a generation of people who are like in their
- 32:09Speaker 1: late twenties, thirties and early forties who have grown up
- 32:13Speaker 1: with sports betting in a way that is entirely different
- 32:15Speaker 1: than what it would have been like when you and
- 32:17Speaker 1: I were fifteen and sixteen, right, right, Okay, so those
- 32:20Speaker 1: people are sharp too, But then you have that makes
- 32:23Speaker 1: it hard. Then you have the guy who everyone's in
- 32:25Speaker 1: love with now, this guy who bet all six or
- 32:28Speaker 1: maybe all seven of the World Series games, right, and uh,
- 32:32Speaker 1: you know had a bundle on each and you know
- 32:35Speaker 1: cleared between this is all mythical or maybe it's not,
- 32:39Speaker 1: don't clear between ten and twenty million dollars. And then, uh,
- 32:43Speaker 1: this same guy bets the Eagles. Are we supposed to
- 32:45Speaker 1: think because this guy who won on the baseball games,
- 32:48Speaker 1: which at the top of the ninth inning and four
- 32:50Speaker 1: of them could have been a coin flip, we're supposed
- 32:52Speaker 1: to think he knows something about this, Like, it's very
- 32:55Speaker 1: strange to me how people change and I fall for two.
- 32:57Speaker 1: But you'll almost change who you want to bet depending
- 33:00Speaker 1: on which way the squares are going in the public
- 33:03Speaker 1: and the sharps. It's so funny you mentioned that guy
- 33:06Speaker 1: because I agree with you. Look, he's become a massive
- 33:09Speaker 1: story in betting, and it's certainly a great thing to follow. Um.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I I have not made a bet because of that guy. Um,
- 33:17Speaker 1: but I will tell you that when I had made
- 33:19Speaker 1: the bet on the Eagles already and when I heard
- 33:21Speaker 1: he bet on the Eagles, I was like, I feel
- 33:24Speaker 1: a little better about your site. Right. It's it's a
- 33:27Speaker 1: weird thing, isn't it strange? Like this guy is not
- 33:29Speaker 1: He's not on the field. He's not you know, even
- 33:32Speaker 1: to think Tom Coughlin had anything to do with the
- 33:34Speaker 1: Patriots game, Like I kept saying it over all, Tom
- 33:36Speaker 1: Coughlin is gonna find it way. It was like he's
- 33:38Speaker 1: not on the field. He's certainly not playing, he's not
- 33:40Speaker 1: on the sidelines. Like he's so far removed. This guy
- 33:43Speaker 1: is really far removed from it. And yet we feel
- 33:46Speaker 1: better or worse about our bet depending on what he
- 33:48Speaker 1: put down. It's very weird and because he's betting millions
- 33:50Speaker 1: of dollars and so he must know something. But the
- 33:53Speaker 1: truth is he can probably afford to lose it exactly
- 33:57Speaker 1: exactly know what I mean, Like you shouldn't like I'm
- 34:00Speaker 1: betting what I can afford to lose, and so I'm
- 34:02Speaker 1: very comfortable in saying what I'm betting on and making
- 34:06Speaker 1: the bet that I'm making. But um, I'm also not
- 34:10Speaker 1: betting so much that like someone should look at me
- 34:14Speaker 1: and think, this guy is putting his entire life on
- 34:18Speaker 1: the Eagles at five and a half, I'm thinking I'm
- 34:19Speaker 1: making it, and I am making an informed decision based
- 34:22Speaker 1: on the data have in front of me and what
- 34:24Speaker 1: I read on the Action Network and what I hear
- 34:26Speaker 1: through sort of the bookmakers that I talked to. That's
- 34:29Speaker 1: making my decision exactly so. And speaking of that, I
- 34:31Speaker 1: love the cartoons you guys do on the Action Network
- 34:34Speaker 1: with the with the drunk guy and maybe the two
- 34:36Speaker 1: guys in the bar, and one of them is obviously
- 34:39Speaker 1: smarter than any other. Have you sat down to figure
- 34:41Speaker 1: out which one actually had a better record? Over there?
- 34:43Speaker 1: Oh my god, the drunk guy fucking killed it. He
- 34:49Speaker 1: was like I think we did in the last six
- 34:50Speaker 1: weeks of this season. I think he was like set
- 34:52Speaker 1: seven weeks. I think he was five and two. And uh,
- 34:56Speaker 1: it's crazy, like I just like every single time they
- 34:58Speaker 1: came out, I just started and I just started saying,
- 35:00Speaker 1: faithe the sober guy. You can't even you have to
- 35:03Speaker 1: bet the drunk guy. At this point, I'm a little
- 35:05Speaker 1: anxious to see what he does. I mean, I know
- 35:07Speaker 1: he's going to be on the Patriots this weekend. I
- 35:08Speaker 1: know it. So that's the public. The drunk guy is
- 35:11Speaker 1: the public for those and the sober guy is sort
- 35:16Speaker 1: of the analytics guy, right, Okay, yeah, Um, have you
- 35:20Speaker 1: thought about your parlays for the weekend? I know, with
- 35:23Speaker 1: you and all the guys on against all odds like
- 35:25Speaker 1: that is a really big thing. So if you thought
- 35:27Speaker 1: about how are you gonna play these this week? And
- 35:29Speaker 1: there's yeah, I feel like I haven't done my job
- 35:33Speaker 1: unless I've lost like three or four hundred dollars before
- 35:35Speaker 1: the game even start. Either on Pink Pink's hair, what
- 35:39Speaker 1: color it's gonna be, and by the way, don't overthink
- 35:41Speaker 1: it's gonna be white or yellow? Um, you know, I
- 35:44Speaker 1: have the coin toss mixed in with with a bunch
- 35:47Speaker 1: of things. But I really like the will a team
- 35:51Speaker 1: scored three straight times? Will either team or both teams
- 35:55Speaker 1: scored three straight times? I think you lay a lot.
- 35:57Speaker 1: You lay like a buck seventy to one, one a hundred.
- 35:59Speaker 1: But um, specially these Super Bowls, scoring comes in bunches
- 36:04Speaker 1: and teams freak out and maybe they're not as prepared
- 36:06Speaker 1: in the first or second quarter as they are, you know,
- 36:09Speaker 1: towards the end of the game. And I kind of
- 36:12Speaker 1: like that one. That's a fun one to root for.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Uh It's like it's like drafting quarterbacks and bunches. There's
- 36:19Speaker 1: all of a sudden, there's a run, like, oh my god,
- 36:21Speaker 1: we gotta score. They scored. Now I understand what they're doing.
- 36:24Speaker 1: I gotta make decisions. I can't play this game to
- 36:26Speaker 1: a zero zero tie. I'm actually gonna have to get
- 36:28Speaker 1: in the end zone or kick a field goal. That's
- 36:30Speaker 1: exactly right. That's that's how I look at it. But um, yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 1: aside from that, what is what are some of your
- 36:35Speaker 1: favorite props? I mean, well, there's a there's a dilly
- 36:39Speaker 1: dilly prop. How many times will you hear the phrase
- 36:41Speaker 1: dilly dilly, that's at twelve and a half. I think, um,
- 36:46Speaker 1: there is a will Pink show cleavage prop um and
- 36:51Speaker 1: believe it or not, we did some pretty extensive research
- 36:53Speaker 1: on this, and you have to go back to Super
- 36:57Speaker 1: Bowl thirty two with Jewel to um get someone who
- 37:03Speaker 1: showed cleavage during the national anthem. You know, we've really
- 37:06Speaker 1: come a long way since this Time's Up movement. But
- 37:08Speaker 1: they're like that that that that's a prop out there.
- 37:11Speaker 1: We've really learned a lot, guys. Unbelievable. Oh my god,
- 37:16Speaker 1: I hate myself right now for you. That's all right,
- 37:19Speaker 1: that's okay, you know. Um. I also like, um, I
- 37:23Speaker 1: like no overtime time? Yeah, mine, I think it's at
- 37:28Speaker 1: minus eight hundred right now today, okay, and normally it's
- 37:32Speaker 1: at minus thousand. So I feel like I'm getting deal
- 37:34Speaker 1: by the way that yeah, five seven years ago, that
- 37:37Speaker 1: was minus twelve hundred, because you know, obviously, how many
- 37:39Speaker 1: times are they gonna get pounded with that because it
- 37:41Speaker 1: never happened? Um, Like, will the game be decided by
- 37:44Speaker 1: exactly four and a half points? I say, no, I'm
- 37:46Speaker 1: gonna go on. I don't know. Almost impossible. Yeah, it's
- 37:50Speaker 1: not gonna happen. But if anybody can figure it out,
- 37:53Speaker 1: Belichick and Brain, you can do it. Yeah, no kidding,
- 37:55Speaker 1: they will screw somebody over. I also like um longest
- 37:59Speaker 1: field goal over under forty seven yards, which where you're going,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I would go under, definitely going. I feel like the
- 38:07Speaker 1: longer field goals UM and I've forgotten what the prices,
- 38:11Speaker 1: but the longer field goals I think is the favorite.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And that's basically because of the public, like the that
- 38:16Speaker 1: just thinks it's going to be long field goals. There
- 38:18Speaker 1: was a prop last week one of the members of
- 38:20Speaker 1: the General Trifecta, my partners on against the Odds, said
- 38:24Speaker 1: that will there be a fifty yard field going They
- 38:26Speaker 1: look back in the last twenty eight conference championship games,
- 38:31Speaker 1: are only two field goals over fifty yards, And of
- 38:34Speaker 1: course Lambeau right down the middle was like, I don't
- 38:39Speaker 1: know what it was, but yeah, I could see the
- 38:40Speaker 1: under being. Uh then Terry is on the game, right,
- 38:43Speaker 1: so you should be okay, he's definitely not in the game.
- 38:46Speaker 1: But also I just feel like the team's drive deep
- 38:49Speaker 1: and you know they're going for touchdowns in this game.
- 38:52Speaker 1: It's gonna like both coaches are pretty aggressive. Um so
- 38:55Speaker 1: so from a historical perspective and from the game plan perspective,
- 38:58Speaker 1: that's how they play the game, right, Yeah, did you um,
- 39:02Speaker 1: you know, do you know how many in the Brady
- 39:05Speaker 1: Super Bowl era how many Patriot how many times the
- 39:08Speaker 1: Patriots score the first quarter touchdown? And I think it's zero?
- 39:13Speaker 1: It is exactly zero. Yeah, and so I love, love,
- 39:19Speaker 1: love will the well the Patriots score a touchdown in
- 39:21Speaker 1: the first quarter, like I'm taking the knowing that. But
- 39:26Speaker 1: they have started badly. Look, they started badly against Tennessee,
- 39:29Speaker 1: really badly, and they started really badly against the Jags. Um.
- 39:34Speaker 1: They are not a team that starts starts hot. Yeah.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I was talking about it with Simmons. I think just
- 39:38Speaker 1: in their games, almost all their Super Bowls, the second
- 39:41Speaker 1: half has been much more entertaining, whether they're on the
- 39:44Speaker 1: winning or losing. In of course, both times against the Giants, Um,
- 39:47Speaker 1: we're talking about that Carolina game. Carolina fought get back
- 39:51Speaker 1: in it. Um. Same with the Eagles. I think they
- 39:53Speaker 1: were down ten and then Darrell Owens lit it up
- 39:56Speaker 1: and and and they went down three. Obviously last year
- 39:59Speaker 1: the second half and time was better. But yeah, these
- 40:01Speaker 1: games we should be able to figure something out for
- 40:03Speaker 1: the first half based on that, you think, right, let
- 40:07Speaker 1: me let me switch gears here for a second, you said, Simmons.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And it made me think, like, would he ever bet
- 40:13Speaker 1: on the team that Patriots are playing to cover? And
- 40:17Speaker 1: then I thought, let's say the Cowboys. I know you're
- 40:21Speaker 1: love the Cowboys. Um, would you ever bet on the
- 40:25Speaker 1: team playing the Cowboys to cover? I mean, that is
- 40:27Speaker 1: the prime emotional hedge scenario. I have done it. I've
- 40:32Speaker 1: I've I've weakened on this. No, I mean in the
- 40:35Speaker 1: super Bowl. In the Super Bowl. No. Well, it's funny
- 40:38Speaker 1: and I don't feel bad bringing us up because I
- 40:39Speaker 1: mentioned it on our podcast this morning. Simmons two weeks
- 40:43Speaker 1: ago before the Jaguars game, I said, the Patriots are
- 40:47Speaker 1: minus one ten to win the Super Bowl. We're gonna
- 40:49Speaker 1: kick ourselves Sunday night that we don't have this, let's
- 40:52Speaker 1: jump on it. So we did. And then a few
- 40:54Speaker 1: days ago he was like, I'm taking the four and
- 40:56Speaker 1: a half. So he had he basically hedged. He went
- 40:59Speaker 1: for the middle uh in there, and we never ever
- 41:02Speaker 1: had So I'm interested to see how this turns out.
- 41:05Speaker 1: But yeah, I would do the same thing I bet
- 41:07Speaker 1: like ten years ago. I was like, no way, I'm
- 41:09Speaker 1: not doing I'm never betting against my team. But it
- 41:11Speaker 1: doesn't or betting, you know, but it really I'm as
- 41:15Speaker 1: devastated as I could be anyway when my team loses,
- 41:18Speaker 1: so it doesn't really matter, all right. So, Uh, I
- 41:22Speaker 1: want to let you go because I know you have
- 41:24Speaker 1: to go back to work to produce great comedy television,
- 41:28Speaker 1: uh for Jimmy Kimmel. But will you tease or parley
- 41:33Speaker 1: the Super Bowl? Because I know you have been a
- 41:35Speaker 1: long time tease and parley player. I will probably uh
- 41:41Speaker 1: tease this, And with the teaser, I could go either way,
- 41:46Speaker 1: but I really I would go Patriots in the over.
- 41:48Speaker 1: And it's so boring and it's so square, but you know,
- 41:52Speaker 1: there are points scored in the in the Super Bowl,
- 41:54Speaker 1: and the Patriots win super Bowls and I really don't
- 41:57Speaker 1: want to over analyze it beyond that, all right, because
- 42:01Speaker 1: I'll listen, that's exactly the right thing to do, right,
- 42:03Speaker 1: I mean, like we can both. Yeah, let's not get
- 42:06Speaker 1: you deep, Like it's a fucking bet, like this is
- 42:10Speaker 1: what could happen. Chances are like the Patriots could win,
- 42:13Speaker 1: and a lot of points could be scored. Yeah, and
- 42:16Speaker 1: I don't like the Patriots, so I'd be happy, happy
- 42:18Speaker 1: to write the check. That's the other thing, alright, Cousins
- 42:21Speaker 1: Sal Against All Odds is the podcast. Everyone should watch
- 42:25Speaker 1: Jimmy Kimmel for your brilliant appearances and all the other
- 42:28Speaker 1: comedy you do there. They can follow you on Twitter,
- 42:32Speaker 1: they can listen to you. Simmons. You're like a kind
- 42:35Speaker 1: of like the media empire. Yeah, that's the media empire
- 42:38Speaker 1: right now. I'm going back to write jokes about some
- 42:42Speaker 1: uh porcupine that's about to be on Jimmy Show where
- 42:45Speaker 1: we have an animal segment. So yeah, yeah, that's right,
- 42:48Speaker 1: that's where the empires going. I'm working on the website.
- 42:50Speaker 1: We're right about whether or not picks gonna show any
- 42:52Speaker 1: cleavand just let you go. This guy is trying to
- 42:55Speaker 1: get by. That's right. Thanks for having run out, buddy.
- 42:58Speaker 1: I appreciate touch latter, Scooge. We've had such a jam
- 43:01Speaker 1: pack show already. We had the props contest winner a
- 43:05Speaker 1: rash Saddad, We've had the very famous Cousin Sal. I
- 43:10Speaker 1: think it's time to get down to some action. Okay,
- 43:12Speaker 1: let's do it. This has been a crazy roller coaster
- 43:15Speaker 1: ride of a point spread here because you know, even
- 43:18Speaker 1: before the Vikings Eagles game was over, it was opening
- 43:21Speaker 1: Patriot six and a half. Then itt like got adjusted
- 43:24Speaker 1: to six, and then before the night was over it
- 43:26Speaker 1: was at five and a half. And now we're at
- 43:28Speaker 1: four and a half and four in some places. When
- 43:30Speaker 1: you and I spoke last week, um, we didn't. We
- 43:35Speaker 1: didn't know if this was going to go down lower
- 43:36Speaker 1: than five, and then within twenty four hours it was
- 43:39Speaker 1: lower than five. Yeah, well we did say that the
- 43:43Speaker 1: likelihood of it going down was pretty great, and I
- 43:45Speaker 1: think that's when you actually made your wager and you
- 43:47Speaker 1: said you were going to get that five and a
- 43:48Speaker 1: half right now, that's true, I did. And then we
- 43:52Speaker 1: were close to moving it on live. We were close
- 43:55Speaker 1: to doing a line move, but but we didn't. But
- 44:02Speaker 1: but we were the first to go to four. Because
- 44:05Speaker 1: we went to four. Um, I want to say, it
- 44:09Speaker 1: was like Thursday and then my phone lights were, you know,
- 44:13Speaker 1: blowing up from everybody and in the media that wanted
- 44:16Speaker 1: to know. You know, we were the first to go
- 44:18Speaker 1: to four. And how come we went to four? And
- 44:19Speaker 1: the whole thing so, and we've been at four ever since.
- 44:22Speaker 1: We never went We never went back. So now there's
- 44:25Speaker 1: quite a few fours out there in a few a
- 44:28Speaker 1: few four and a halfs. Do you think it will
- 44:30Speaker 1: go to three and a half? I was, you know what,
- 44:34Speaker 1: I took a pretty big bet at plus four yesterday
- 44:39Speaker 1: and I was tempted, uh to move it, but I
- 44:42Speaker 1: just moved the money. I went to plus four minus fifteen,
- 44:46Speaker 1: and immediately when I went there, I took a nine
- 44:50Speaker 1: thousand dollar bet and eight thousand dollar bet on the
- 44:52Speaker 1: Patriots at minus four minus all five like immediately. So
- 44:56Speaker 1: that told me that that might be a little bit
- 44:59Speaker 1: of the point of existence, which is the first time
- 45:01Speaker 1: I've gotten that since we hung the initials six and
- 45:04Speaker 1: a half. You know, every time we moved the line down,
- 45:07Speaker 1: I kept waiting for that, you know, immediate pop on
- 45:10Speaker 1: the Patriots, on somebody that was just looking for a number,
- 45:13Speaker 1: and we never got it. So that's why the number
- 45:15Speaker 1: just kept drifting down until we until we got to
- 45:18Speaker 1: that point where somebody just said, hey, the line is
- 45:21Speaker 1: too low, let me let me bet something big on
- 45:24Speaker 1: the Patriots, and uh, it really wasn't until we went
- 45:27Speaker 1: to minus four minus so five, where we got, you know,
- 45:30Speaker 1: that immediate bang bang bang of of you know, nice
- 45:33Speaker 1: sized bets and so do you feel like the money
- 45:38Speaker 1: is starting to even out a little bit? Are you
- 45:40Speaker 1: getting sort of closer to fifty action because I know
- 45:44Speaker 1: for a while it was like very heavy money on
- 45:46Speaker 1: the Eagles. Yeah, it started. It's not quite fifty fifty yet,
- 45:49Speaker 1: it's but it's much more than it was during the
- 45:52Speaker 1: first week that we had this lineup. Um, it's one
- 45:54Speaker 1: of the Super Bowls where I've just seen the most
- 45:56Speaker 1: lopsided action in the first week in many years. I mean, um,
- 46:02Speaker 1: even even the Super Bowl where the Broncos played the
- 46:06Speaker 1: Seahawks and we opened that game and pick them and
- 46:08Speaker 1: and closed as high as the Broncos minus two and
- 46:11Speaker 1: a half almost minus three. All that money came pretty
- 46:14Speaker 1: late in the two week period. Uh, it's kind of
- 46:18Speaker 1: rare that we got this much action during the first week,
- 46:21Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, even the first day we hung it
- 46:23Speaker 1: and then causing that big of a line change in
- 46:26Speaker 1: just the first couple of days of the line being up.
- 46:28Speaker 1: So um, it was all Eagles for the first week. Uh.
- 46:32Speaker 1: The weekend actually slowed down Saturday Sunday, very little action.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I think most of the people that were betting, we're
- 46:38Speaker 1: betting on basketball, and and you know, just kind of
- 46:41Speaker 1: taking it easy waiting for this week, and then starting Monday, Uh,
- 46:46Speaker 1: the action started picking up again. And uh, I mean
- 46:49Speaker 1: now it's really starting to come in. Uh. I would say,
- 46:53Speaker 1: now we're at the point where it's about Eagles and Patriots,
- 46:59Speaker 1: and you start to see a lot more action on
- 47:01Speaker 1: the Patriots at four or is it just sort of okay, Yeah,
- 47:05Speaker 1: we've got more at four than we had, you know,
- 47:08Speaker 1: at any other number. But you know, I guess that's
- 47:11Speaker 1: to be expected the lowest number. But um, and the
- 47:14Speaker 1: money line not as much Patriots money line as I expected.
- 47:18Speaker 1: You know, we we went down to minus of dollar
- 47:20Speaker 1: eighty on the Patriots money line, and uh, you know,
- 47:24Speaker 1: even when we were the lowest in town, we weren't
- 47:26Speaker 1: getting that much Patriots money line action. And so what
- 47:32Speaker 1: you are you still getting a lot of Eagles money
- 47:35Speaker 1: line action. Um? Yeah, I mean that that the ticket
- 47:38Speaker 1: accounts about four to one Eagles to Patriots on on
- 47:42Speaker 1: the money line. And that's kind of typical though. I mean,
- 47:45Speaker 1: every underdog usually gets more on the money line in
- 47:48Speaker 1: terms of ticket account People that want to see them win. Uh,
- 47:52Speaker 1: they know they can get more than even money and
- 47:54Speaker 1: they don't have to lay you know, one ten and
- 47:56Speaker 1: there's no points involved. They just want them to win
- 47:58Speaker 1: the game. So that's a lot of pretty much square action.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Just a reminder um that this weekend at Action Network HQ,
- 48:09Speaker 1: we are doing our Chalk Talk super Bowl pregame show.
- 48:14Speaker 1: It's everything you like about pregame shows and none of
- 48:18Speaker 1: the blah blah blah boring stuff. So like, no sappy features,
- 48:24Speaker 1: no empty analysis about who's gonna win. We're only talking
- 48:29Speaker 1: about betting, pure betting. That's it. That's all she wrote.
- 48:37Speaker 1: That's what we're gonna talk about. We're gonna come on
- 48:39Speaker 1: thirty minutes before they We're gonna come on at five
- 48:41Speaker 1: pm Eastern fort thirty minutes at Action Network HQ. We're
- 48:47Speaker 1: gonna come on at halftime. We're gonna come on after
- 48:50Speaker 1: the game. It's gonna be me, it's gonna be Jeff Schwartz,
- 48:53Speaker 1: former NFL lineman, uh, current host on NFL Radio who's
- 48:57Speaker 1: been on the podcast before. It's gonna be Big Cat
- 49:00Speaker 1: from barstool Um, and a host of other sort of
- 49:03Speaker 1: fun things. Everyone should be checking it out. At Action
- 49:08Speaker 1: Network HQ on Sunday Super Bowl Sunday at five pm. Um,
- 49:15Speaker 1: what do you think of this guy who's running around
- 49:17Speaker 1: town making the multimillion dollar bets on the Eagles. Well,
- 49:22Speaker 1: I'll tell you. I mean, we were experiencing it during
- 49:25Speaker 1: the World Series. Before we um all the press came
- 49:30Speaker 1: out about you know what he was doing. We had
- 49:33Speaker 1: taken some big bets at one of our properties on
- 49:35Speaker 1: some of the M m A fights and we lost
- 49:38Speaker 1: on them, and we've said, whoever this guy is, he's
- 49:41Speaker 1: he was pretty sharp or pretty lucky. And then the
- 49:44Speaker 1: same guy was rolling over tickets on the World Series,
- 49:48Speaker 1: and again we just figured, Okay, we we get a
- 49:51Speaker 1: lot of people that they win big and they just
- 49:54Speaker 1: roll over a ticket and they just keep rolling it
- 49:56Speaker 1: over and see how much they can let it ride.
- 49:59Speaker 1: But this guy had a streak that we hadn't seen
- 50:01Speaker 1: in a long time, and he was taking some pretty
- 50:03Speaker 1: big tickets and just rolling them over. Game one of
- 50:06Speaker 1: the World Series, Game two of the World Series, and
- 50:08Speaker 1: he went, I forgot what it was six and oh
- 50:11Speaker 1: five and oh whatever was he He didn't play the
- 50:13Speaker 1: last game of the World Series for whatever reason, so
- 50:16Speaker 1: he quit. He quit while he was ahead, and now
- 50:19Speaker 1: the word was out that he was trying to bet,
- 50:22Speaker 1: you know, millions on the Eagles, So maybe he got
- 50:27Speaker 1: a lot of that money already down that caused a
- 50:29Speaker 1: lot of that early line move down. I'm not sure
- 50:32Speaker 1: exactly how much he got down, but he's on quite
- 50:37Speaker 1: a run, that's all. I don't know much about him,
- 50:39Speaker 1: but it's on quite a run as an Eagles better
- 50:42Speaker 1: at this point, should I feel good or bad? Like?
- 50:44Speaker 1: Should I feel? You know, it's an interesting game, right
- 50:46Speaker 1: because I think that most sharp betters and I am
- 50:54Speaker 1: not doing a backhanded compliment to myself, Um, I would
- 50:58Speaker 1: prefer to play against the public. And in this case,
- 51:02Speaker 1: the money and the tickets have all been coming in
- 51:04Speaker 1: on the Eagles, and some is like, is it sharp
- 51:09Speaker 1: money that's coming in on the Eagles? Should I feel
- 51:11Speaker 1: good that I'm on the Eagles? A plus five and
- 51:13Speaker 1: a half. From a sort of wisdom of the crowd
- 51:16Speaker 1: perspective with relation to some of the better better is like,
- 51:20Speaker 1: how should I feel about this guy being on the
- 51:21Speaker 1: Eagles and the money moving that way? I mean, historically
- 51:25Speaker 1: you shouldn't feel too good because we typically when everybody's
- 51:29Speaker 1: on one side like that. It's usually you know, it
- 51:32Speaker 1: goes the other way. But uh, this is an odd
- 51:35Speaker 1: game because it moved so much from six and a
- 51:37Speaker 1: half down to four. So if you were to say
- 51:40Speaker 1: I laid minus five on the Patriots when the line
- 51:43Speaker 1: was six and a half everywhere, you'd say I got
- 51:45Speaker 1: a good line, But you don't feel too good about
- 51:48Speaker 1: it now because now the line's down before, So it
- 51:50Speaker 1: can it can work both ways. Um, I don't know
- 51:54Speaker 1: that this is a that a lot of this Eagle's
- 51:58Speaker 1: money is sharp money and terms of professional money. I
- 52:01Speaker 1: know early on we got some sharp bets when there
- 52:05Speaker 1: was fives around town and we're at five and a
- 52:08Speaker 1: half and that, you know, that could just be a
- 52:10Speaker 1: guy shop and a number. Not so much that he's
- 52:13Speaker 1: got such a great opinion on the game. And there's
- 52:16Speaker 1: lots of Super Bowls where the wise guys really don't
- 52:19Speaker 1: weigh in or have that great of an opinion. You know,
- 52:22Speaker 1: just because it's the Super Bowl doesn't mean that the
- 52:24Speaker 1: professional handicappers really love the game. You know, they have
- 52:28Speaker 1: a particular ratings on how much they think there's value
- 52:31Speaker 1: in a number, and it really doesn't matter whether it's
- 52:34Speaker 1: you know, Wagner playing writer in college baskets or whether
- 52:38Speaker 1: it's the Super Bowl, it doesn't matter to them. The
- 52:41Speaker 1: only difference is that they're able to bet a lot
- 52:43Speaker 1: larger amounts in this game. So, UM, I don't know.
- 52:46Speaker 1: This is this is an odd game in terms of
- 52:48Speaker 1: the you know, the point movement, and I want to
- 52:52Speaker 1: say a lot of it is just a lot of
- 52:55Speaker 1: it's the public that just can't stand seeing the Patriots
- 52:58Speaker 1: in it again. And it's almost like wishful thinking, like
- 53:01Speaker 1: this is the team that's going to knock the Patriots down.
- 53:04Speaker 1: And I've kind of take straw poles around town. Every
- 53:09Speaker 1: time I'm talking with somebody about the game, I asked
- 53:11Speaker 1: him who I like, and nobody seems to say the Patriots.
- 53:14Speaker 1: So it's really it's it's really lopsided in the court
- 53:19Speaker 1: of the public opinion. You know, everyone just wants to
- 53:21Speaker 1: see the Eagles win. It is. It is absolutely stunning. Um,
- 53:26Speaker 1: all right, Scooch, we talked about the game. Um, let's
- 53:30Speaker 1: go to our picks. Man. I just got to get there.
- 53:32Speaker 1: I can't wait another second time to take down the Hops.
- 53:39Speaker 1: When all hope is lost, all that's left is relief.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Let's play Scots Roulette. I listen, I've been lamely obvious
- 53:50Speaker 1: that I'm on the Eagles a plus five and a half. Um.
- 53:52Speaker 1: I like that to remain my screw troo let pick
- 53:54Speaker 1: because I made it. I bet on it. I bet
- 53:56Speaker 1: it on the podcast last week. And I don't think
- 54:00Speaker 1: I should be beholden to the new number because I
- 54:02Speaker 1: bet it in a very public way. Yeah what do
- 54:06Speaker 1: you think? Yeah, no, I I could appreciate that. I
- 54:10Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna have to go the opposite way
- 54:13Speaker 1: and go with the Patriots minus four. Um. I mean
- 54:17Speaker 1: the lines come down significantly from what we originally made it. Uh.
- 54:22Speaker 1: And like we talked a little bit about last week,
- 54:25Speaker 1: that's largely because of one game against the Vikings. And
- 54:29Speaker 1: I hate, I hate putting so much stock into just
- 54:32Speaker 1: one game. And when we're saying it's almost a field
- 54:35Speaker 1: goal difference based on how they just played against the
- 54:39Speaker 1: Vikings and you know, uh, Patriots or the Patriots, and
- 54:42Speaker 1: we've said that a million times too. You don't get
- 54:45Speaker 1: rich betting against the Patriots. Um. But I'm gonna have
- 54:49Speaker 1: to go with them. And I don't know if that's
- 54:50Speaker 1: just because we just need them so so badly, but
- 54:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with them. So do you think I
- 54:57Speaker 1: should try to middle it at pag be it's minus four?
- 55:00Speaker 1: Is there enough of an opportunity like I've been landing
- 55:04Speaker 1: on five that it's worth the money to me? I
- 55:07Speaker 1: don't think so. Of course. I remember saying that to
- 55:10Speaker 1: somebody when the Vikings played the Saints, and I said,
- 55:12Speaker 1: I don't worry about five. Five is a dead number.
- 55:14Speaker 1: And of course we all we all know what happened
- 55:17Speaker 1: in that game. But boy, that's just so specific to
- 55:20Speaker 1: try and uh middle it just to get on five.
- 55:23Speaker 1: I'd almost wait till, well if you can some in
- 55:26Speaker 1: progress wagering and see if you know, if the the
- 55:29Speaker 1: Eagles jump out to a three nothing lead or something,
- 55:31Speaker 1: there's probably a lot more opportunity to to hedge in
- 55:34Speaker 1: that situation. I like the way you're thinking, yeah, you know.
- 55:40Speaker 1: And it's odd the way that they're betting certain specific
- 55:43Speaker 1: parts of this game. Like they're pounding the Patriots minus
- 55:47Speaker 1: a half in the fourth quarter, Uh minus is it
- 55:51Speaker 1: opened up at plus oh five and now it's minus one.
- 55:54Speaker 1: Yet they're pounding the Eagles in the first half at
- 55:58Speaker 1: plus two and a half and early on they were
- 56:00Speaker 1: actually able to get plus three. So they're betting very
- 56:03Speaker 1: specific Eagles to jump out to a lead and then
- 56:06Speaker 1: Patriots to come back. So I guess. I mean, we've
- 56:09Speaker 1: seen it many times in Super Bowls where that's exactly
- 56:12Speaker 1: what happens. The Patriots started off very slow and then
- 56:14Speaker 1: they come back in the second half. But um, that's
- 56:17Speaker 1: how they're betting this one, Scooch. Listen, it's been another
- 56:22Speaker 1: incredibly successful and exciting year, the least of which is
- 56:26Speaker 1: because we launched the podcast on the Action Network, a
- 56:30Speaker 1: brand new home for us. We brought in Mike Grennell
- 56:33Speaker 1: as our producer, who's done amazing work bringing some shine
- 56:38Speaker 1: and professionalism to this rag tag operation. At some point,
- 56:41Speaker 1: sooner rather than later, we're going to move into our
- 56:43Speaker 1: office in New York and we'll have a cool podcast studio.
- 56:45Speaker 1: And uh, you know, we appreciate everybody sticking with us
- 56:48Speaker 1: through sound issues when we first started the podcast, remember
- 56:51Speaker 1: that back in October. That was really tough. Uh, But listen,
- 56:56Speaker 1: just because the season is over doesn't mean you get
- 56:58Speaker 1: to stop, because now you have to keep coming back
- 57:00Speaker 1: because it's called The Buffet with Chad and Scooch exactly. Yeah,
- 57:04Speaker 1: so I'm committed now yea, I committed, as they said.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Uh so guess what. This isn't even goodbye. I'll talk
- 57:11Speaker 1: to you next week. Okay, we've been spent fun football.
- 57:15Speaker 1: We'll have a lot to talk about recapping the game though.
- 57:17Speaker 1: We will have a time. All right, buddy, good luck
- 57:19Speaker 1: this weekend. Thanks
