- 0:00I'm Leah Klinke and I'm Kate Phillips and welcome back to the Big Life Podcast.
- 0:06We're so excited to be back with all of you guys after our first week of preseason.
- 0:11Yes, we have so much to catch up on this week. It's been so exciting finally
- 0:15getting back together with our teams.
- 0:17We can't wait to share all of the behind the scenes of this first week. So exciting.
- 0:22Okay, so Kate, how are you feeling after your very first week of preseason back at Mizzou?
- 0:28I am like so excited
- 0:31like this first week was a lot obviously preseason
- 0:34like the very first week is always just a
- 0:37lot getting used to like whatever two practices a
- 0:40day the heat but it's been so fun
- 0:43and like this team this year is like it's
- 0:47just it like we're our team's awesome like team connection we
- 0:51have two new coaches which has made it like very
- 0:54different in a great way so I
- 0:58think it's it's different but in a in a
- 1:00good way and I think everybody's kind of embracing that
- 1:03and embracing that like we're not the
- 1:06same team as before which I think's for us
- 1:09has been like a big deal and
- 1:12kind of getting past like past years and not getting
- 1:16caught up in old results or like
- 1:19things we used to do so I think
- 1:22that's been like a big thing for our team and just seeing
- 1:25the change I love it like it's been so fun how's
- 1:28your first week been at Notre Dame it's been really
- 1:31good I mean I'm super tired it's been definitely a lot but it's really been
- 1:36great our team is we're doing good we have a lot of team chemistry we always
- 1:40hang out together we're having fun with each other so it's super fun but again
- 1:45it's just pretty exhausting with like double days we have a bunch of lifts.
- 1:50Like meetings, and everything else that we do as a team on and off the field.
- 1:56So definitely exhausting is one word to describe it, but also super fun.
- 2:00And I'm getting super close to everyone on the team. And it's great to be back with everyone.
- 2:04Yeah. How do you feel about it being your last preseason in college?
- 2:09It's actually crazy. It's crazy how fast the time goes by.
- 2:13And this year, I'm really just trying to focus on staying in the present and
- 2:17soaking it all up because it is my last preseason.
- 2:20But it really is. It's super scary, but also exciting.
- 2:23And I'm just really excited to see what this season has in store for me and
- 2:28our team, because I think our team is very good and we should have a good season. So we'll see,
- 2:34Kind of just take it day by day, work hard every day, get closer with each other,
- 2:38and hopefully we'll get the results in the end.
- 2:41Our first couple days, I feel like those first couple days of preseason,
- 2:47you forget how tiring it is.
- 2:50And for us, it's been really hot these first couple of weeks.
- 2:55Oh, really? Yeah. And so dealing with that has been...
- 2:59Like it's always difficult but just
- 3:03like figuring out like everybody else has to be dealing with this too
- 3:05so just like kind of getting past that like we do i don't know
- 3:08if you guys do this but we do like hydration testing every morning
- 3:11oh we don't so yeah you
- 3:14have to we like do hydration testing if like
- 3:17pee in a cup get tested because if not like
- 3:20it's actually insane like how hot is
- 3:23it today like today.
- 3:26It's right now it's like 8am it's like
- 3:2975 but it like to the today
- 3:32during training we were we trained from like 8 to
- 3:3510 and it was like it felt like like 90 degrees oh
- 3:38wow just like getting past that and dealing with that a
- 3:41little bit i mean always like we always talk about like
- 3:44a mentality mentality that we have and it's
- 3:46like everybody's dealing with this so let's like just
- 3:49kind of get past that yeah and you
- 3:52guys are training early 8 a.m to 10 is that like normal for
- 3:55you guys yeah during like fall we
- 3:58usually train in the morning and then like obviously would have
- 4:01classes after but right now yeah we'll train in
- 4:04the morning and then usually yeah train in
- 4:07the morning then we'll have lunch together have
- 4:11a little break if we have two practices we'll
- 4:14have a break come back practice dinner
- 4:17and like treatments and whatnot in between
- 4:21and then if not we'll have like practice lift
- 4:24break team building something yeah busy busy days the schedules are packed especially
- 4:32this first week I feel like like we come back and it's like we're waiting waiting
- 4:37waiting until July 29th when you can finally get with your coaches and And then when you can,
- 4:41it's like nonstop, like throughout the day,
- 4:44whether you have practices, lifts, like meetings.
- 4:47Something that my team's been doing a lot is we've had a bunch of meetings with
- 4:50our sports psychologists, which is it's been very helpful for us and very good
- 4:54for us, especially early in the season.
- 4:56As we are kind of she does a lot for us and she helps us a lot,
- 5:01a lot about mentality, like staying in the present, how to keep your confidence.
- 5:05She talks also about how to deal with like your role on the team because some
- 5:12people start some people don't some people play some people don't so she talks
- 5:15a lot about that and then we also go over with her a lot of like common team
- 5:19issues that we might face throughout the season and kind of how we would,
- 5:24like solve that, I guess, if it happens. Like there's no, there's no team issues
- 5:28and hopefully we won't have any team issues throughout the season,
- 5:30but sometimes it happens.
- 5:32So it's helpful to kind of know how we're going to deal with it before that even happens.
- 5:38Yeah. We have somebody, his name's Dr. Pim. He's, he's worked with us,
- 5:43which is, it's actually crazy.
- 5:44He's worked with us for four years, but my class,
- 5:48when we were going into our senior year of high school,
- 5:51they told us all to like come if we
- 5:53could come to like the overnight id camp so we got to know each other and like
- 5:56be around the coaches and we met him then and like he'll do like report we'll
- 6:01do like confidence things and like he has like all these papers and everything
- 6:05so he has ours from senior year of high school to like now and we actually just
- 6:11like talk a couple of us like.
- 6:14Had talked in front of the team about like our past like
- 6:18i guess my past three years and like he was talking about like
- 6:21from senior year to now of like
- 6:24how much we've gone through and like how much
- 6:27our confidence we talk about confidence all the time our roles
- 6:30have changed um you're kind of giving like
- 6:33advice a little bit to like younger players on like
- 6:36how to deal with like setbacks injuries
- 6:40your role changing yeah that's
- 6:43like one thing we like really also like hone
- 6:46in on just because I mean you never
- 6:49know how many minutes you're gonna play what
- 6:53role you're gonna have on the team you get injured like it
- 6:56things can change in like seconds so I think like talking to people and like
- 7:00having a team conversation about that is like huge yes yeah I agree I think
- 7:06being open about that is really important because it is hard especially I think
- 7:11it's important for like the freshmen just coming in,
- 7:14like coming from high school soccer or like club soccer to especially like if
- 7:19you go to division one, two or three, it's a big step up.
- 7:23Everyone playing college soccer at the collegiate level is really good.
- 7:28So you're usually one of the best on your teams going into college.
- 7:31And then you get to college and there's a team of 30 girls who are all the superstars
- 7:36from wherever they're from.
- 7:38So it's just hard to adjust to your role of maybe playing a lot for your club,
- 7:41but then maybe you get to college and don't play as much. And...
- 7:46Just adjusting to it all. And it's important that my team really stresses the
- 7:52importance of just coming together as one team, no matter your role.
- 7:55We always are cheering for each other, helping each other out,
- 7:58and just challenging each other, no matter what role you're in,
- 8:02just to contribute to the better of the team in general, which I think is really
- 8:07important. But it's hard.
- 8:08It's way easier said than done too, because in the moment,
- 8:11it's just, you don't know like what's coming
- 8:14until you actually experience it yourself so that's hard and
- 8:17injuries too are a big part of that you may be a starter playing
- 8:20all the games and then you get injured like early in the season and see like
- 8:24that's that's really hard on you but it's important to just kind of always have
- 8:29a team first mentality because you just want to do everything for your team
- 8:32so that your team has the best chance of doing as well as they can throughout the season.
- 8:38Yeah what would you say is like team camaraderie has
- 8:41been like probably so far during preseason
- 8:44you said it was like good but like
- 8:47how did that happen yeah we're like really good
- 8:50it's been super fun with everyone like our
- 8:53days are pretty filled besides our off days which we have nothing which
- 8:56is nice so on our off day like today for
- 8:59example we had an off day and we all went to the pool so we
- 9:02went to one of our teammates apartments pools and we
- 9:05just hung out there as a team we just love hanging out with each other no one
- 9:08else is really on campus now because we're the only
- 9:11sport that kind of starts this early so we're just
- 9:14kind of forced to hang out with each other but we love hanging out
- 9:17with each other so we do that and then we always are running out to get ice
- 9:21cream after like all of our meetings and meals for the day which is fun we're
- 9:26just I feel like this is the closest I've ever been with any of my teammates
- 9:30and it's just super fun they're all my best friends And we just love,
- 9:34love, love hanging out with each other, both on and off the field.
- 9:37So it's really been great. And I think like team culture and team camaraderie
- 9:42really goes a long way throughout the season.
- 9:44You always think of like soccer, it's like, oh, the best players on the best team are going to win.
- 9:49But it's really more about a lot.
- 9:53I mean, it's like probably half and half. You have to have the team chemistry.
- 9:56You have to be able to like get through some adversity and just be able to do it all together.
- 10:01Together and with no team separation because that can really make or break a
- 10:05season yeah I think for yeah for us too like we're always hanging out together
- 10:10obviously like nobody's here so we're like always together I mean you guys are
- 10:14in the dorms yeah here's my dorm dorm tour.
- 10:21Very simple yeah so my team stays and we're
- 10:24all staying in the dorms for like the first three week
- 10:27so until August 19th August 19th we'll be in the dorms all together so we live
- 10:33together we play together we hang out together we have like one hallway where
- 10:38all of us are so we always just hang out in the common room at the end of the
- 10:42hallway like after practices and stuff we watch shows together.
- 10:46A bunch of us like to read. So we'll be like reading on the couch together,
- 10:51like just all the time, always hanging out.
- 10:54But it's fun being in the dorms with all of my teammates for sure.
- 10:57Yeah that's so fun we just actually so
- 11:00our dining hall is like across from our locker room
- 11:03and they have a ping pong table in there and like since nobody's obviously in
- 11:08there besides us and i think volleyball got there today but we took the ping
- 11:12pong table into our locker room and that's what we've been doing like because
- 11:17we always have like breaks and like a weird hour break in between.
- 11:21Lift or practice or whatever and so people have
- 11:24been getting like really intense in our in ping
- 11:27pong and like our coaches and like playing
- 11:30so that's so fun yeah it's been
- 11:33so fun like it's just funny and then now we're like trying to buy it go and
- 11:37like ask if they can buy us a ping pong table just because like that's one thing
- 11:41that we've been just like doing like I feel like in preseason you always just
- 11:45like I don't know find something fun to do in that like couple of hours just because you're, like,
- 11:53sitting around and then funny stuff always just, like, starts happening just
- 11:57because you're all sitting there.
- 11:59I mean, there's, like, 30 girls in a locker room. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:02That's... It's so funny you bring up your, like, funny stuff just starts to happen.
- 12:05What my team's been doing... Because, yeah, you get, like, you have training
- 12:09and then a meeting and then lunch and then, like, you have an hour or so,
- 12:12like, random breaks until, like, your lift or something, for example.
- 12:15Or at least that's how ours goes, and I assume. You guys, it's kind of similar, but...
- 12:19Some things that my team have been doing is we'll randomly start,
- 12:22like, rapping together.
- 12:24So weird, but we'll, like, make a beat, and then we'll start literally,
- 12:27like, rapping around the classroom, or around the locker room.
- 12:31And then just, like, rhyming random words. I don't know. It's,
- 12:34like, weird. We're all, like, super tired, exhausted.
- 12:37And then also we have, like, dance parties all the time. So do you know Calabria?
- 12:44Is that a song? It's, like, a song, yeah. Yeah. Well, it's like a song where
- 12:48you like each have your own dance move and then you, it's like a game kind of,
- 12:52but you have your own dance move.
- 12:53My team does that all the time in our locker room, like before practices and
- 12:56stuff and before games too, to get us kind of ready to play.
- 12:59So we've been dancing and rapping a lot, I guess.
- 13:04That's hilarious. Yeah. A soccer team full of some singers and dancers.
- 13:09We're all serious. You go. You guys get some celebrations ready for goals.
- 13:14We actually have been. We've been mentioning that. Someone will do something
- 13:17cool. We're like, you have to do that when you score.
- 13:19Yeah, we've been coming up with celebrations. And like half the time,
- 13:24I'm like, guys, like half the time people forget about it.
- 13:28But like, it's a great idea in the moment until somebody forgets about. Yeah, exactly.
- 13:32Yeah. So you talked a lot about kind of earlier on about how your team is like
- 13:37kind of almost, it seemed like starting over, like forgetting about the past or anything,
- 13:42just rebuilding and kind of starting this season fresh, not thinking about anything
- 13:46else except looking forward. So talk a little more about that.
- 13:50Yeah, I think that was something like we had brought up like early on,
- 13:55just because we, we obviously like have two new coaches.
- 13:59So our head, my, so our head coach is like still there.
- 14:03And then my goalkeeping coach from the last two years, she took a new role as
- 14:08our associate, one of the associate
- 14:11head coaches so she's not with the goalkeepers anymore which I think.
- 14:16Her name's Kelsey Weiss, but she's she played at Florida State,
- 14:20like all American goalkeeper, played in the NWSL. She's awesome.
- 14:24And she just wanted to take a new role because she wants to become a head coach one day.
- 14:29And like, I'm so like, we're all so happy because she's awesome.
- 14:33And like, I think her job, like now she works a lot with the back line.
- 14:39Which she had before, but she can like focus more with them.
- 14:42And then we got a new goal I got a new goalkeeping coach and
- 14:46so that's like his name's Austin but we've been.
- 14:49Kind of like it's it's different obviously so
- 14:53just like embracing that a little bit has been
- 14:56something new and I like it just because you kind
- 14:59of like I don't know for goal keeping having somebody different like
- 15:03talking seeing different things I think
- 15:06has been really good for like our goalkeeper group yeah
- 15:09and then we also have another associate head coach Renee
- 15:12Horton and she came with like a ton
- 15:15of experience she was at USC for a
- 15:18while in Georgia and she
- 15:21brings like such a fun energy like she's
- 15:24always like celebrating us but also like holding
- 15:28us like accountable which is something that
- 15:31I love just because she like holds us to a high standard
- 15:34but then like you do something well and she's the first person like
- 15:37jumping down like screaming celebrating but i
- 15:40just think like the whole new like coaching staff has really
- 15:43like been like we aren't what the
- 15:46past used to be so like no reason to
- 15:49like look on that dwell on that like last year we didn't
- 15:52make the sec tournament from like one game we had
- 15:55to win our last game win our tie we didn't so i
- 15:59think is like not like looking at that and like leaving like
- 16:02this season like thinking about that just because we
- 16:06aren't that team whole new team new coaches
- 16:09so I think just like not be dwelling on what we I guess once were or like what.
- 16:18We could have been because we're not that anymore yeah and it's helped a ton.
- 16:23Like I don't know these past week this past week is like.
- 16:28Been so huge for us and i'm so excited
- 16:30to like we play our first exhibition game tomorrow so
- 16:34it'll be really exciting to see everything like
- 16:37kind of go into that game and
- 16:40how like yeah everything we've worked
- 16:43on yeah that's awesome that's awesome
- 16:46that you guys have that mentality and you guys are all
- 16:48on the same page moving forward so yeah sounds like
- 16:51it's gonna be a great start to the season and good luck in your game
- 16:54yes how was your first exhibition game actually
- 16:57it was played yeah yeah so we
- 17:00played we played northwestern it was it
- 17:03was okay we definitely first pre-season
- 17:06game i feel like is always a little bit rough we were just kind
- 17:10of with everyone new and getting like the system
- 17:13down and how we're gonna play and stuff we did okay
- 17:15we tied them they're a very good team all the
- 17:18credit to them but we definitely had
- 17:21a lot to take from it and we're gonna learn a lot from it
- 17:24and definitely just move forward flip that page and
- 17:27get ready for our next game which is against indiana
- 17:30this saturday but these preseason
- 17:33games are all about just kind of getting your feet wet and a lot of people get
- 17:38a lot of minutes which is really cool a lot of people get experience and just
- 17:43really see kind of how i mean it's the very first game so it's gonna to be a
- 17:48little bit like rusty but kind of just seeing the potential of the team is great and.
- 17:53We're just excited to move forward and do hopefully better in the next game
- 18:00but it was it was good definitely a good learning experience and it was a good
- 18:04game for sure good game yeah yeah i think those exhibition games are always
- 18:08like i don't know you go in with some type of expectation,
- 18:12usually doesn't go that way just right you're
- 18:16playing your own team for like so long like well so
- 18:20far i think we've played like 11 v 11 maybe like three times but it's like you're
- 18:25playing the same people so like going into those exhibition games you know nothing
- 18:29about the other team first off because you can't watch like any film because
- 18:32i mean their teams change um so it's He's always just kind of going in,
- 18:37like, just open for anything.
- 18:40Yes. And then, like, what I love about him, though, is that you kind of have
- 18:43to, like, work on the fly a little bit.
- 18:46Like, corner kicks, you have no clue what the other team's doing.
- 18:49Like, your team just has to figure it out. Like, that was something we were talking about today.
- 18:52Like, we have no clue what—we play K-State, but we have no clue what they're going to do.
- 18:56So, like, it's your guys' job on the field to figure it out,
- 19:00and that's going to happen in a game. So, like—.
- 19:03Just being able to, like, work it fast and, like, efficient in those moments.
- 19:09Yeah. And, like, being able to do it. Like, the first week is always good,
- 19:13just getting a little bit under your belt, just being ready for anything.
- 19:18Yeah, right. And then you can really hone in on, like, exactly what you need
- 19:21to work on and how to move forward from there.
- 19:24So, I feel like this is kind of always how it is, these preseason games.
- 19:28Like a little bit messy but you get through it and you learn a lot and your
- 19:32team really grows a lot after them yeah definitely how are practices like different
- 19:38for you guys in preseason than.
- 19:42Like during season I think
- 19:45for us they're kind of similar
- 19:48but a bit different in the same way they're definitely harder in
- 19:51preseason just because we're not in our
- 19:54full routine yet we don't have as many like games I guess so
- 19:57the coaches aren't trying to like save our legs or
- 20:00anything so they're definitely harder we do more like
- 20:03scrimmaging with each other because the coaches are evaluating us
- 20:05trying to see who they're gonna play and it's
- 20:10just more practice so sometimes we'll have double days
- 20:13or we'll have lifts and practice at the same day
- 20:16so just harder I feel like
- 20:19but pretty similar at the
- 20:22same time yeah besides like just more scrimmaging and
- 20:25like mixing around people mixing around positions just
- 20:28to kind of test everything out to see what's going to work in the
- 20:31future what about you guys yeah I
- 20:34would say pretty similar like a lot of playing bigger I
- 20:37feel like we don't do that as much in season just
- 20:41because it's like quick turnaround like with
- 20:44your off day or whatever it's pretty quick turnaround so just
- 20:47yeah lots of playing bigger for
- 20:51people coaches to evaluate we also play we do a lot
- 20:54of like we call them like mentality drills so.
- 20:58Like a lot of like super close
- 21:01goals crossing in like who's gonna
- 21:04who's gonna finish it like yeah we play drill we
- 21:07call it because my coach kelsey was at florida state so
- 21:10call it the florida state we call it the florida state drill um she
- 21:13doesn't call it that but we we do the goals are
- 21:16like five maybe like
- 21:19seven yards apart and then it's like three it's
- 21:23like goalkeeper needs to go three three and it's like just
- 21:26crossing in and if your mark gets scored on
- 21:29you're off and so it's just like just
- 21:32sort of just straight mentality yeah yeah um just.
- 21:35Like kind of gritty drills like that just because in season sometimes
- 21:38you can't really be we can't really like push it like
- 21:41you were saying with like legs yeah right yeah like that yeah that's actually
- 21:45so funny we have this thing we call them grit games and it seems like a very
- 21:49similar thing yes just like mentality things it's like who's just gonna dig
- 21:53deep and like get it done and like do their role like yeah on some of the things
- 21:57like we do like this heading thing where it's like.
- 22:00It's almost like a punt and like two people are just like fighting to like head the ball first.
- 22:04So it's like, it's just really gonna throw themselves out there kind of and
- 22:08be the grittiest person, I guess.
- 22:10So we do kind of a lot of those things, but yeah, in season,
- 22:13you have to be kind of more careful, careful with that because you're playing
- 22:16or you don't, you want to limit the injuries in practice and yeah. Yeah.
- 22:22Yeah. Lots of small sided, which I love, but sometimes
- 22:26it's like the field players are like oh so many
- 22:291v1s or like 2v2 drill which us
- 22:33goalkeepers love just because you're getting so many shots no but
- 22:37it's yeah i like preseason with the two days
- 22:40and we've been a lot like the guys said stuff's
- 22:43different this year a lot of like our later practices have
- 22:47been a little bit like more functional so
- 22:51we're like working on set pieces lower
- 22:54load stuff yeah which has been like great and i
- 22:57think all of our bodies are feeling a lot
- 23:00better this preseason than they have in past years so
- 23:04that's something that i've really enjoyed yeah
- 23:08right that's important but you're yeah more
- 23:11of a mental doable but hard it's important to
- 23:14like go into the season pretty fresh i'd say my team like
- 23:17does very similar to like i say
- 23:19like double days but it's like we'll have a real like a
- 23:22hard practice in the morning for example and then our afternoon will
- 23:25be like set pieces or yes yeah just
- 23:29like stuff like that so I don't think we've had a maybe the very
- 23:32first day was like a actual like two a day but other than that it's either a
- 23:36practice and then a lift or a practice and then like a set pieces thing or but
- 23:41still with that a bunch of meetings and stuff so the whole day is pretty much
- 23:44filled up but it's not I mean it's not anything crazy but it's definitely tiring and.
- 23:50Yeah, for sure. Yeah. What have you guys? Oh, yeah.
- 23:54What have you guys been doing like outside of soccer? You talked about like
- 23:56going to get ice cream, just like different things that you've done with your team.
- 24:01So we went to get ice cream. We have been to the movies.
- 24:06We went to the pool today. That was super fun. Let's see what else.
- 24:10Oh, we went to get coffee like almost every day.
- 24:14That's pretty much it. We had like our game night, which was super fun within our teams.
- 24:18So we did some skits and had played
- 24:22a bunch of games I don't want to talk about it though my
- 24:25team did not very good what did you dress up as
- 24:28oh we did like a skit with
- 24:30like our coaches kind of so we were like dressing up
- 24:33as our coaches oh that's funny yeah it was it was
- 24:36really funny so that was fun that's kind of what we've done outside what
- 24:39about you guys we've done yeah ice cream runs
- 24:42I feel like that's always something we'll do and
- 24:45then we did a one day for a team building we
- 24:48did a scavenger hunt around campus because our campus is
- 24:51like pretty close so we walked into team
- 24:54building and usually it's like all of our coaches in there
- 24:57and i was just like our head coach and she was like okay like we were put into
- 25:03summer teams like over the summer just to check in and stuff so they were like
- 25:08okay you guys are gonna be in your summer teams like we're giving you you start
- 25:11off you just read a clue and it was like places around campus,
- 25:16and so we were like,
- 25:18we were like all sprinting around campus it was like different spots and people
- 25:25were there we had to take a picture and then give you like a new clue and then
- 25:28when you would get there you have to like do something like one of them was like do a handstand.
- 25:33Or like just different things it was so fun though but it was so annoying because
- 25:38our team like some teams had like different routes like easier routes oh yeah.
- 25:45And, like, our team was, like, sprinting this whole rough thing.
- 25:49And then, like, the team that came in first was, like, their stuff was,
- 25:53like, so close. Oh, yeah.
- 25:56We got back and we were, like, drenched in sweat. And we were,
- 25:59like, you guys are already back.
- 26:01Like, we were on, like, our eighth one and they were, like, heading back.
- 26:04And we were, like, all so confused.
- 26:06We were, like, how are they already done? We were, like, we were so.
- 26:10Oh, gosh. Yeah. I bet that gets so competitive.
- 26:13Yes. Yeah. that was our first time doing it was so fun though we were like we
- 26:16need to do something else like this yeah it was so competitive like you are
- 26:20one team would be walking and then,
- 26:22people would be sprinting past like just like talking like okay like why are you guys walking,
- 26:29that's so fun that seems really fun that's a good idea yes
- 26:33it was so much fun i i really enjoyed it even
- 26:36though we were like i think we ended up running like
- 26:38four miles or something just like back and forth i'm sure
- 26:41yeah yeah but it was intense because everybody
- 26:45like wanted to get back and win and then when we
- 26:48got back we did like this was funny there's some
- 26:51random game our coaches came up with it was like they had to give you a word
- 26:55and then you had to go give like a speech about it they got really out of hand
- 26:59but people were just doing like funny stuff but we just do like yeah like we
- 27:06were saying we just come up with like fun stuff on the fly yeah right the past time,
- 27:11But it's been, yeah, so many fun memories, like, already made. Yeah, for sure, yeah.
- 27:17I feel like the days go by kind of slow, but then, like, we're already a week
- 27:21done. Like, it feels like it goes by, like, really fast.
- 27:25See, I would say the opposite. I feel like days go by fast. Well,
- 27:28during the day, it doesn't.
- 27:31But they do, like, once you get back home, I'm like, oh, my gosh,
- 27:35I'm already, like, done for the day.
- 27:37But the week i i can't tell you like what day of the week it is half the time
- 27:42yes yes you like lose track it was like i don't even know what day it is today
- 27:47but like it was monday one of the days
- 27:49we were like wait it doesn't feel like a monday like you completely like lose
- 27:52track because it doesn't matter like you're not in school you're not doing anything
- 27:55besides like just being with your team the whole day you just like lose track
- 27:58of everything and it's like it's almost like you're at camp like it's not like
- 28:02real life no it isn't and then you'll like forget about it
- 28:07And then, like, the next year comes around, you're like, oh, my gosh.
- 28:10Yeah. This is how, like, preseason was. Yes. It just flies by.
- 28:15Yes, it flies by, yeah. And that's what, like, makes me kind of,
- 28:18like, sad, I guess, because I'm like, it's my senior season,
- 28:22and I'm already done with the first week of preseason.
- 28:24Like, I'm never going to have that again. Yeah.
- 28:28But, I mean, it is what it is. Got to just stay in the moment and take in everything.
- 28:33How would you say how are
- 28:36your like new freshmen doing or any transfers and just like integrating
- 28:39with the team and the style of play and everything yeah
- 28:43I think that our freshmen have been like really
- 28:47like receptive and like good with like how everything is obviously it's like
- 28:53pretty big jump I would say we talked about this in the last episode but yeah
- 28:59they're doing well obviously the first weeks a lot but
- 29:04But they seem like they're like enjoying it, having fun. Our freshmen are so
- 29:09outgoing, so it's like easy to get along with all of them. How many are there?
- 29:16There's six of them. Oh, okay. Cool. That's a good number. Yeah.
- 29:21I'm like, am I right? Yeah, six. No, but they're, yeah.
- 29:25They've been awesome so far and so fun.
- 29:30But yeah. and then we had one transfer and she
- 29:34was from scott or she had
- 29:37played like in scott gallagher so a lot of the girls from
- 29:40our team play there i played out there so she like knew a lot of people so it's
- 29:44been easy for her i think gotcha yeah but no yeah everybody's been like like
- 29:51i was saying like everybody's been on the same page and i think it's made like
- 29:55this first week so easy yeah.
- 29:59In like past years i wouldn't say like
- 30:01our team has been like yeah i think
- 30:04it's like awesome seeing it and like how
- 30:08close everybody like already is like it's so
- 30:10cool to see like i love seeing the freshmen just like like
- 30:14interacting like with different grades and like
- 30:17like when we go to lunch or dinner
- 30:20or something like you don't see like classes sitting together like
- 30:23you just see like anybody like you wouldn't you
- 30:26wouldn't even know yeah and I think that's something
- 30:29like our coaches have been really big on the past
- 30:32year and like this this past spring and like seeing
- 30:35it is just like so cool yeah that's great and
- 30:38that's like totally going to translate into the field when you guys start playing
- 30:41yeah what's underrated and
- 30:44that people don't think about maybe going into college is like team culture
- 30:47is so important yeah you could have the best team but if the people don't get
- 30:51along and they're not happy for each other and they're mad that so-and-so is
- 30:55playing over so-and-so or whatever like you're just not going to be good like
- 30:58that's just and you'll get fights off the field and that will take plates on
- 31:02the field to how you guys are playing so.
- 31:04I feel like people don't realize that but it is such a huge part of a college
- 31:09soccer team how has your team like been with that freshmen and transfers good
- 31:14so we don't have we're like pretty much the same team we have well we have three
- 31:17new freshmen a transfer goalkeeper and then a grad transfer,
- 31:21and they're all integrating so greatly.
- 31:23Our grad transfer was here in the spring, so she's already been in with the team.
- 31:27So I guess we have four new faces, but they're all doing great. Our freshmen are...
- 31:34They all have different personalities and they're some loud,
- 31:37some quiet, but they're all so great. Everyone loves them and they fit right in. So it's been great.
- 31:41We just try to make sure like they're comfortable with everything and like,
- 31:47I don't know, it can be scary just coming in as a freshman.
- 31:50So just making sure, always checking on them, giving them rides and making sure
- 31:54they're happy, which they seem to be.
- 31:56So it just can be a big transition freshman year. So, but like looking back at it, I'm like, oh,
- 32:02like I liked when my upperclassmen would ask me how I'm doing and
- 32:05like talk to me and stuff so that's what we just try
- 32:07to do to help keep them included and making sure
- 32:10they're doing good but yeah no it's been great and
- 32:13they're great great players great people on and off the field so
- 32:16really good yeah that's awesome I like
- 32:19yeah I think for the freshmen like making sure that
- 32:22like I feel like it can be really easy to like
- 32:25think oh like they're okay or whatever but like
- 32:28especially if you guys have three like that
- 32:31can be hard with such a big team and like your guys
- 32:34sophomore class was so big uh-huh yeah yeah
- 32:38that's good that you guys are like really on top
- 32:40of that too yeah yeah and i feel like like you can just like make their day
- 32:44by asking them how they're doing or like be like oh like if you're going out
- 32:48with some people to get ice cream like come with us just include them in everything
- 32:52i think that's so important well guys that's a wrap on the first week of pre-season
