- 0:01Speaker 1: Eagle up in the sky. J D and Turk just
- 0:05Speaker 1: flew by. Take a look, it's in this pod. It's
- 0:10Speaker 1: story time now, you guys, Hello, I'm your host today.
- 0:16Speaker 1: It's very weird just being here by myself in this room,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but I'm super excited because I went on to Twitter
- 0:24Speaker 1: and I asked you guys, the fans, what were your
- 0:28Speaker 1: favorite stories from the podcast? And you guys hit me
- 0:31Speaker 1: up with a ton of stuff, so many options for
- 0:34Speaker 1: me to choose from, and so I decided that perhaps
- 0:38Speaker 1: one story time wasn't gonna be enough. We were gonna
- 0:41Speaker 1: need multiple because there are so many different types of stories.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Is that you know? The stories we're gonna do today
- 0:48Speaker 1: are about our beginnings, the early times from a lot
- 0:52Speaker 1: of our guests as they were just breaking into the industry.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We get a ton of letters from you guys who
- 0:58Speaker 1: are aspiring actors, direct dir's writers, sort of photographers, animators,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and so I kind of wanted to revisit because I
- 1:05Speaker 1: remember when I first got to l A and I
- 1:08Speaker 1: was trying to figure out what am I gonna do?
- 1:10Speaker 1: How am I going to make it out here? It's
- 1:12Speaker 1: so expensive, I have only my college experience. Who will
- 1:16Speaker 1: hire me, and it was so hard just trying to
- 1:19Speaker 1: figure out like how to break in. And I think
- 1:22Speaker 1: for me, hearing the stories of people who had already
- 1:25Speaker 1: done it is what continuously encouraged me to go after
- 1:30Speaker 1: my dreams. And getting to listen to these guys and
- 1:33Speaker 1: Sarah Chalk obviously Zack and Donald Johnny C Like, there's
- 1:38Speaker 1: rich stories of just survival, of situational comedy, of bonding
- 1:45Speaker 1: and love. And I think that's what we're really going
- 1:47Speaker 1: to discover today as we go back to some of
- 1:49Speaker 1: these really early stories. So stay tuned and let's hear
- 1:53Speaker 1: a couple of stories. Five, six, seven, eight, here's some
- 2:02Speaker 1: stories about show we made. Doctor Nurses story are so
- 2:26Speaker 1: First up, we have a story from Johnny C. This
- 2:30Speaker 1: is all the way back in season one, episode sixteen.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Um Johnny came and talked to us a lot about
- 2:38Speaker 1: what happened around nine eleven the Macy's Day Parade, the
- 2:42Speaker 1: first gathering that was allowed in New York City post
- 2:45Speaker 1: the attacks. Um, and he gives us such beautiful, wonderful,
- 2:51Speaker 1: loving insight to how a lot of the emotions are
- 2:55Speaker 1: played throughout scrubs and why downplaying can sometimes be the
- 3:00Speaker 1: us thing for an actor or a writer to do
- 3:02Speaker 1: if they want to impact their audience, because it feels
- 3:04Speaker 1: more authentic and real. Something that strikes me about Johnny
- 3:08Speaker 1: C every time he's on the podcast is how much
- 3:10Speaker 1: he cares about this art and his craft. If you
- 3:13Speaker 1: haven't listened to one sixteen in a while, I highly
- 3:15Speaker 1: recommend you go back. It's an excellent episode. There were
- 3:18Speaker 1: many stories to pick from, but it couldn't resist hearing
- 3:22Speaker 1: Zack talk about his nephew throwing gang signs one more time.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So stay tuned for john C. Here we go. We
- 3:29Speaker 1: should start right off because I have some ideas. Go ahead, Johnny,
- 3:35Speaker 1: go ahead, because you have You guys have to grind this.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And I'm so excited that some things occurred to me
- 3:41Speaker 1: while I was watching this thing. I love when you
- 3:44Speaker 1: come on, you know why, because you come prepared. You're
- 3:46Speaker 1: like you're as prepared as Donald and I. You're like,
- 3:49Speaker 1: you're wound up. Well I am. I think. Look going
- 3:52Speaker 1: back and watching this, first of all, it's hard not
- 3:56Speaker 1: to feel really proud of it. Yeah, and this one
- 4:01Speaker 1: I thought deserved from backdrop because the one last Week
- 4:03Speaker 1: one is a spectacular episode. Zach, you're particularly great in
- 4:08Speaker 1: that episode with Sarah and then the monologues with the shrink,
- 4:11Speaker 1: let the whole ensemble just shine. And I busted my
- 4:16Speaker 1: ass on those monologues because the writing was astonished and
- 4:20Speaker 1: you noticed there's no cuts. I mean, we were clearly
- 4:22Speaker 1: all told that they yeah, they were, especially since Donald
- 4:27Speaker 1: knew it. So we were clearly all told that there
- 4:29Speaker 1: would be no cuts. But what I thought was really
- 4:32Speaker 1: interesting and maybe interesting for people listening is a little
- 4:37Speaker 1: bit of context. And what I mean is because in
- 4:40Speaker 1: this episode, it's it became clear to me just how
- 4:43Speaker 1: jelled the ensemble is. Whether it's Kenny and Judy, You
- 4:48Speaker 1: and me, Zachie, Donald and Sarah, the thing is just
- 4:52Speaker 1: water tight. And the reason is because I think now,
- 4:56Speaker 1: as we discussed already, nine eleven had already occurred, were
- 4:59Speaker 1: around about the middle of December here, and so what
- 5:04Speaker 1: happened in New York, which I'll circle this back, was
- 5:08Speaker 1: the New York Yankees lost the World Series in seven
- 5:10Speaker 1: games to the Arizona Diamondbacks. And the only reason that's
- 5:14Speaker 1: relevant is because they lost. There was no ticker Tape
- 5:18Speaker 1: parade in New York City, so we were invited to
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Thanksgiving parade in New York City, and it was
- 5:26Speaker 1: the first taste of real rock star for all of
- 5:29Speaker 1: us because we worked till Wednesday night until about and
- 5:34Speaker 1: this was a week or two before this episode, and
- 5:37Speaker 1: then we were whisked off to l a X where
- 5:40Speaker 1: we occupied the entire front of first class. There was
- 5:44Speaker 1: only one other person. There were only one other that's right,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and it was a It was a boy band. It
- 5:49Speaker 1: was like, uh, oh Town or something like that. We
- 5:52Speaker 1: shared first class. It was the cast of Scrubs and
- 5:55Speaker 1: Oh Town. I remember. It might as well have been
- 5:57Speaker 1: a private plane it wasn't, but it was first las.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It wasn't coach, it was first It wasn't business class,
- 6:03Speaker 1: it was first class. And we were going to New
- 6:05Speaker 1: York to participate in the Thanksgiving Day parade. Now remember
- 6:08Speaker 1: there had been no mass gatherings allowed in New York
- 6:12Speaker 1: since that Tuesday morning in September. There's just wasn't allowed.
- 6:16Speaker 1: The Yankees were supposed to be there, but they weren't.
- 6:19Speaker 1: So we fly overnight, and you guys can chime in,
- 6:22Speaker 1: but we fly overnight, we go, we're deposited at some
- 6:25Speaker 1: chapel on the Upper West Side somewhere. We didn't even
- 6:28Speaker 1: go to the hotel. We just they dropped us off
- 6:30Speaker 1: at the freaking parade. We were like lying on the
- 6:33Speaker 1: on the ground in the chapel too, And we got
- 6:37Speaker 1: sideways on the plane. Yeah, sideways as you do. And
- 6:46Speaker 1: and then we we got up and Zachie, I think
- 6:48Speaker 1: you brought your nephew onto the float and it was
- 6:53Speaker 1: a quasi racist kind of Pocahona's float um and he did,
- 6:59Speaker 1: They've gotten, They've got and ridden some of those since then,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think, yeah, But I absolutely I think our well,
- 7:03Speaker 1: here's the Scrubs cast and a quasi racist Pocahona's float
- 7:07Speaker 1: on the upper west side in the staging area. And
- 7:10Speaker 1: who pulls up behind us but the Wiggles in the
- 7:13Speaker 1: big red car. Now I had gone to Wiggles concerts
- 7:17Speaker 1: with my son every time they're in Los Angeles for
- 7:20Speaker 1: the last couple of years. I was eating, sleeping, and
- 7:22Speaker 1: drinking the Wiggles. So I got off the float and
- 7:25Speaker 1: I went back to the big Red car and introduced
- 7:27Speaker 1: myself to Murray and Jeff, and I introduced myself to everybody,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and I became friends with the Wiggles, and I am
- 7:34Speaker 1: to this day. Do you hang out with the Wiggles.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Still not really, but I did a video for them,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and I they became my friends. There. My memory started
- 7:43Speaker 1: interrupt one second, Johnny. My memory is that my nephew
- 7:46Speaker 1: was a very outspoken kid and not shy at all.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And I don't know how old he was, but he
- 7:52Speaker 1: was little, and we wanted to be like nine, dude,
- 7:55Speaker 1: no younger and younger younger. Here's a little kid, And
- 7:58Speaker 1: so Al Roke we're off the flow at one point
- 8:00Speaker 1: and Al Roker's interviewing us, and he goes, and I'm
- 8:02Speaker 1: here with the cast of Scrubs and I've got Johnny
- 8:04Speaker 1: c McGinley and Donald Fazon is going around introducing the
- 8:07Speaker 1: whole cast and my nephen live television. And my nephew goes,
- 8:11Speaker 1: what about me? And Al Roker? It's awkward, and Al
- 8:17Speaker 1: Roker ignores him and starts so tell us about the show.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Guy interrupts him again, what about me? And finally Al
- 8:27Speaker 1: feels bad enough that he's like, oh, I'm sorry, young man,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're right, and what's your name? And then he introduces himself.
- 8:33Speaker 1: But I was like, it was my first throwing gang
- 8:35Speaker 1: signs to like he didn't he didn't, he didn't know
- 8:39Speaker 1: any like real gang signs, but he had seen on
- 8:42Speaker 1: TV how how how rappers and whomever throw gang signs.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So we're on the float and he's like throwing these
- 8:47Speaker 1: like almost gang signs. When I when I spoke to
- 8:52Speaker 1: Al Roker after after he cut, I said, how how
- 8:57Speaker 1: is this for a turnout? And he said, this will
- 8:59Speaker 1: be the largest and out in the history of the
- 9:00Speaker 1: Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. And I said, well, give me
- 9:02Speaker 1: an estimate, and he said, they'll be about three and
- 9:04Speaker 1: a half million people here. And so every time we
- 9:06Speaker 1: went through an intersection, and I'll wrap the story up
- 9:09Speaker 1: in a minute, but every time we went down an intersection,
- 9:12Speaker 1: you could see it was a hundred to two hundred
- 9:15Speaker 1: people deep at every intersection. I've never seen that many people.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I never will in my life. Yeah, it was that was.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I remember being like, wow, there are so many people here,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and we were on the float and every You're right,
- 9:28Speaker 1: every time we passed an intersection it looked like it
- 9:31Speaker 1: went so deep into the intersection. I remember thinking, how
- 9:35Speaker 1: are all of these people? It was like sardines too,
- 9:38Speaker 1: like they were packed together because nobody had been allowed
- 9:42Speaker 1: nobody had been allowed to gather since that Tuesday. And
- 9:45Speaker 1: the other thing I remember is that my nephew was
- 9:47Speaker 1: was on the float and he I thought, oh, this
- 9:49Speaker 1: will be fun for him. He was he was bored
- 9:51Speaker 1: in thirty seconds, right, and I was like, oh funk,
- 9:53Speaker 1: I gotta take care of this kid for a whole parade. Yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 1: we had to. It's all the way from Uptown, all
- 9:58Speaker 1: the way to Macy and he's thrown to stay gang
- 10:00Speaker 1: signs for a while. And then he got bored of that.
- 10:02Speaker 1: And then there was like an upstairs in the float.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I don't know if it was like it was like
- 10:06Speaker 1: in Pocahona's head or something. Well know, it was a
- 10:08Speaker 1: multi tiered ship that yeah, but even like in the
- 10:12Speaker 1: in the in the non outside area, there was some
- 10:15Speaker 1: spot he found and then he went up there and
- 10:17Speaker 1: he found bubble wrap and I was like, okay, fucking
- 10:19Speaker 1: bubble wrap will entertain him for a little while. Then
- 10:22Speaker 1: he got over the but he was stopping on the
- 10:23Speaker 1: bubble wrap and I was like, this is I'm never
- 10:25Speaker 1: having kids, this is like the worst. What about my
- 10:31Speaker 1: My only point bringing this up and I'll circle it back,
- 10:35Speaker 1: was that. And also remember a couple of weeks earlier,
- 10:38Speaker 1: actually about a month earlier, we had been picked up
- 10:40Speaker 1: for the back nine, and we ran around the hospital
- 10:43Speaker 1: with their HUDs cut off, and so that meant you
- 10:46Speaker 1: had paychecks until May the first week of right or so,
- 10:51Speaker 1: because in TV you only get paid for episodes produced,
- 10:54Speaker 1: and so they just you know, it just let's explain
- 10:56Speaker 1: to people who don't know the show was was picked
- 10:59Speaker 1: up for the first thirteen episodes, and they kind of
- 11:02Speaker 1: see how you do in the ratings, and then if
- 11:05Speaker 1: you do well enough in the ratings, you get the
- 11:06Speaker 1: rest of the order, which which is in in in
- 11:10Speaker 1: in business talk is called the back nine, meaning you
- 11:12Speaker 1: get the get nine more episodes. And we have been
- 11:15Speaker 1: given that news about a month earlier, and we ran
- 11:17Speaker 1: around the hospital like we've won the Stanley Cuppers, I remember.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And my only point in this is that between getting
- 11:24Speaker 1: picked up and now about fifteen or sixteen episodes into it,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and I can see it in this episode as well
- 11:31Speaker 1: discuss but the ensemble is water tight, whether it meant
- 11:35Speaker 1: going on a trip together or getting picked up, people
- 11:38Speaker 1: are starting to vibe off each other. And it's as
- 11:40Speaker 1: clear as day when I was watching it. It's just
- 11:43Speaker 1: what Donald and Sarah are doing as you guys know.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I think the camera is an X ray machine and
- 11:48Speaker 1: it sees through all the bullshit and what they're doing together,
- 11:52Speaker 1: there's zero bullshit. And what Zak is doing at the
- 11:55Speaker 1: end with Sarah in that in that on that cot,
- 11:59Speaker 1: there's no bullshit. It's it's just tight and right. And
- 12:03Speaker 1: I just got a chill. It just it really got me.
- 12:07Speaker 1: You gave me a chill too, because I gotta tell
- 12:08Speaker 1: I didn't remember in that scene with Sarah what happened.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I didn't know if it was going to turn romantic.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I didn't know if I cried. I couldn't remember. And
- 12:16Speaker 1: I was actually moved by the two of us because
- 12:19Speaker 1: nothing happens like I agree, I agree like like you,
- 12:23Speaker 1: like would happen in real life. You know, in the movies,
- 12:26Speaker 1: we'd kiss. In the movies, I break down and cry,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but in real life two friends might just sit there
- 12:31Speaker 1: in silence for a minute. And I just thought that
- 12:33Speaker 1: was beautifully done. I think it's the real privilege of
- 12:36Speaker 1: friendship when nothing does happen so that I don't have
- 12:40Speaker 1: to demonstrate to you anything and you don't have to
- 12:42Speaker 1: demonstrate anything to me, And real friendship is when stuff
- 12:46Speaker 1: is allowed, and it's a tricky verb to settle, and
- 12:50Speaker 1: you guys let it settle in front of the lens
- 12:52Speaker 1: and as well discussed Will mackenzie. He just let the
- 12:55Speaker 1: scene play and the two actors. It's really lovely and
- 12:59Speaker 1: on a prime time comedy, it's spectacular. It's spectacular. Now
- 13:04Speaker 1: we've been greased by the presence of many stars one
- 13:07Speaker 1: scot Folly, Heather Graham has been on the show. No
- 13:11Speaker 1: shortage of a list celebrities. But there's something extra special
- 13:15Speaker 1: when Terror Reid showed up, and that's because she went
- 13:18Speaker 1: to high school with Donald. So we got to hear
- 13:20Speaker 1: about Donald's first encounter with Moonshine, a shootout at his
- 13:25Speaker 1: first apartment in l a and what happens when you
- 13:28Speaker 1: fall asleep on the set of Clueless. Here's Terry Read
- 13:31Speaker 1: telling us all of Donald's juicy gossip. I believe that,
- 13:35Speaker 1: I believe. Yeah, I remember three things in my life
- 13:39Speaker 1: that are very important in my life and you're part
- 13:42Speaker 1: of two of them. Right before you go into this,
- 13:44Speaker 1: because this is gonna be juicy, that's a tease for
- 13:46Speaker 1: the audience. We're gonna say a quick break and we'll
- 13:48Speaker 1: be right back with the terror read two things in
- 14:01Speaker 1: my life, two things in my life that are really
- 14:03Speaker 1: big moments in my life and important moments in my life,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and Tara is a part of it. My first time
- 14:08Speaker 1: ever falling asleep on set was on the Clueless set, right,
- 14:12Speaker 1: fell asleep and we were doing the party scene, show
- 14:15Speaker 1: the movie the movie, And to fall asleep on a
- 14:19Speaker 1: set you gotta be really brave. But maybe I wasn't
- 14:22Speaker 1: in Clueless. I know you weren't in Clueless, but you
- 14:24Speaker 1: showed up at the party scene. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 14:29Speaker 1: remember up. So I'm sleeping on a freaking like a
- 14:34Speaker 1: chair and we're shooting the movie and somebody said should
- 14:39Speaker 1: wake up? And I opened my eyes and Tara standing
- 14:42Speaker 1: in front of me, standing over me, and I'm like,
- 14:44Speaker 1: what the funk are you doing here? And I was like,
- 14:48Speaker 1: holy shit, right and and it was a big moment
- 14:50Speaker 1: for me because it takes it. You gotta have trust
- 14:53Speaker 1: to fall asleep on a set, first of all, because
- 14:54Speaker 1: people will fun with you one too. It was a
- 14:58Speaker 1: big moment because it was it was my big break
- 15:00Speaker 1: and it was a huge movie and I knew at
- 15:02Speaker 1: this point, I didn't know it was gonna be huge,
- 15:05Speaker 1: But I knew that I was in Los Angeles and
- 15:07Speaker 1: I made it, and my one friend that had made
- 15:09Speaker 1: it in Los Angeles is waking me up on set,
- 15:12Speaker 1: and I was like, holy ship, this is serendipitous. This
- 15:14Speaker 1: is this has to be this is this has to
- 15:17Speaker 1: be uh, this has to be fat. And she's going
- 15:21Speaker 1: to give me some of that big Lebowski juice, some
- 15:24Speaker 1: of that juice, some of that, some of that, some
- 15:26Speaker 1: of that, some of that. Can I tell him? Can
- 15:28Speaker 1: I tell him the story about being in your apartment
- 15:31Speaker 1: when with the gun shooting? Oh God, So I go
- 15:37Speaker 1: over to me, like Donald, let me go to his house.
- 15:40Speaker 1: And it's just me and Hammer hanging out. It's more
- 15:42Speaker 1: than just me and you. It's me, you and some
- 15:45Speaker 1: of the casts from the Mickey Mouse Club. Like I
- 15:47Speaker 1: don't know how it turned out to be this. We
- 15:49Speaker 1: were hanging out with like Chase Hampton and Damon from
- 15:52Speaker 1: the Mickey Mouse Club and it was like those two
- 15:55Speaker 1: and a couple of other people and were at my
- 15:58Speaker 1: house in Hollywood and I had just moved all famous
- 16:00Speaker 1: actors at the time. I just moved to Los Angeles.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Let her tell the story, don't hijack it, all right,
- 16:05Speaker 1: go ahead, Tara. So we go to his house and
- 16:08Speaker 1: we're hanging out and we're all having fun, and then
- 16:10Speaker 1: all of a sudden and Nora in front of his
- 16:15Speaker 1: house and and Don was like duck. We're all laying
- 16:20Speaker 1: on the ground like like it was the scariest we've
- 16:23Speaker 1: ever seen. And all of a sudden he knew what
- 16:25Speaker 1: to do. He's like duck, lay in the ground. And
- 16:27Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, after the shots, he's crawling
- 16:30Speaker 1: like towards the window to peek through because we didn't
- 16:33Speaker 1: know it was right in front of his building. So
- 16:35Speaker 1: we're peeking through if they're gone or not, you know.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And and we after that we laid on the floor
- 16:40Speaker 1: and all of us laughed so hard because we couldn't
- 16:42Speaker 1: believe what just happened. They were still alive, all right.
- 16:47Speaker 1: She left a couple of parts out tower. So we're
- 16:50Speaker 1: hanging out and somebody goes, yo, this is a really
- 16:53Speaker 1: dangerous neighborhood. I'm like, get the funk out of here.
- 16:55Speaker 1: This is not a dangerous neighborhood. I'm from a dangerous neighborhood.
- 16:58Speaker 1: This isn't a dangerous I'm from Hell's kitchen. I'm from
- 17:00Speaker 1: right up from Hell's kitchen. Everybody get down. So we
- 17:05Speaker 1: get on the ground. And now I'm on the ground
- 17:07Speaker 1: and I'm looking at Tara, and Tara's bawling, crying, and
- 17:10Speaker 1: I'm like, oh god, oh God, oh god, Tarver brought
- 17:14Speaker 1: over to my house. She's probably got shot or some
- 17:17Speaker 1: ship like that. She's gonna die. That everything calms down,
- 17:20Speaker 1: we all get up and we're looking around and I'm like, yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 1: that was the funniest ever. I just said that this
- 17:26Speaker 1: wasn't a scary neighborhood, that this was Hell's kitchen, and
- 17:29Speaker 1: out of nowhere, and then right as I said, out
- 17:31Speaker 1: of nowhere, once again, retaliation comes more. Oh it was crazy,
- 17:37Speaker 1: but we jumped to the ground again, right, And now
- 17:40Speaker 1: I'm laughing. I'm laughing so hard, right, I'm stoned out
- 17:44Speaker 1: of my mind and I'm freaking laughing at gunshots outside
- 17:48Speaker 1: my window. Dude, Uh yeah, laughing so hard that this
- 17:51Speaker 1: the story doesn't have uh climactic ending other than the
- 17:55Speaker 1: fact that we survived. The climactic ending is that you
- 18:00Speaker 1: survived to drive by and you didn't get tar red killed,
- 18:03Speaker 1: and I didn't. I got it to get tied wasn't
- 18:05Speaker 1: there a story you told me once Donald where you
- 18:08Speaker 1: you went over Terra's house and had the moonshine for
- 18:11Speaker 1: the first time. Yes. Story. So we were in high
- 18:16Speaker 1: school and it was Tara's Tara was sixteen. It was
- 18:19Speaker 1: her sweet six team, and I guess I was a senior,
- 18:22Speaker 1: and She's like, Yo, come to my house in Jersey.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I'm throwing a party and all my friends from Jersey
- 18:27Speaker 1: gonna be there. And like I said, Tara and I
- 18:30Speaker 1: were close in high school, so there was like me,
- 18:33Speaker 1: her and then well it was Jamal it was It
- 18:38Speaker 1: wasn't Terence Howard. It was Jamal. Yeah, my buddy Jamal
- 18:42Speaker 1: and one other person. We go over to Terra's house
- 18:45Speaker 1: and so we get there and Tara was like, dude,
- 18:47Speaker 1: you're not gonna believe this, but I got a keg
- 18:49Speaker 1: and I was like, you gotta fucking keg. She was like,
- 18:51Speaker 1: I gotta alright. Feels like it's just like the classic
- 18:55Speaker 1: Jersey I grew up in Jersey too, obviously. It's like
- 18:58Speaker 1: it's like membering teen Wolf when he that goes through
- 19:00Speaker 1: all the trouble to get the keg and then yeah,
- 19:04Speaker 1: and then he puts in the room and there's all
- 19:06Speaker 1: those kegs. Yeah anyway, yeah, I get there. I get
- 19:09Speaker 1: there and I'm like, holy ship, she got a keg. Right.
- 19:12Speaker 1: She taps the keg and we're all drinking it. Right,
- 19:15Speaker 1: We're all drinking, and she goes, yo, you want to
- 19:18Speaker 1: try something different, and I was like, in my mind,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I'm like, oh God, this is where it all goes
- 19:22Speaker 1: bad to go. I want to try to drink something different.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, sure. She goes coming me. She
- 19:26Speaker 1: takes me in the kitchen and then the kitchen there's
- 19:28Speaker 1: this big vat and she's like, it's moonshine. What She's like,
- 19:33Speaker 1: it's moonshine My dad made this. And I was like,
- 19:35Speaker 1: get the funk out of here. She was like yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 1: And so I look at him. It's like clear with
- 19:38Speaker 1: like celery. It looked like floating. I was like, okay,
- 19:44Speaker 1: I'll try it. And I try it and I sip
- 19:48Speaker 1: and I'm telling you, I'm tell you something right now.
- 19:50Speaker 1: After I sipped, I don't remember much of what happened
- 19:54Speaker 1: to the rest of the time. I remember Taras showing us.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I remember you doing your a school cheerleading stuff in
- 20:01Speaker 1: front of all of us to show us that I
- 20:03Speaker 1: remember that. I remember falling asleep on the floor, uh,
- 20:08Speaker 1: and waking up the next morning and taking the bus
- 20:10Speaker 1: or trying one of those things back to Manhattan. But
- 20:14Speaker 1: it was my first time and and my only time
- 20:16Speaker 1: ever trying first. It got me. It got All I
- 20:22Speaker 1: know is I don't remember much. I just remember falling
- 20:24Speaker 1: asleep on the floor. It's like those things. It's like
- 20:26Speaker 1: when you watch movies and it's like, you know, it
- 20:29Speaker 1: shows you moments in a person's life as they're watching
- 20:32Speaker 1: it flash before their eyes and it blacks out, and
- 20:34Speaker 1: then it comes back and it's something different, and then
- 20:36Speaker 1: it blacks out and then it comes back and it's
- 20:38Speaker 1: something different. I have two memories. One of them is
- 20:40Speaker 1: Tarry doing going like rah rah, and then the other
- 20:47Speaker 1: and then the other one is passing out on the floor,
- 20:49Speaker 1: looking over and seeing everybody on the floor knocked out
- 20:52Speaker 1: and then just passing out. Yeah. This is called a
- 20:55Speaker 1: young teenage boy tries moonshine for the first time. Great
- 21:00Speaker 1: it was. It was one of my most memorable moments.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Tara Reid has a few of them. One more time
- 21:06Speaker 1: for the Fact List, Terry read, sometimes when we don't
- 21:11Speaker 1: have guests the guys, as you know as a loyal listener,
- 21:16Speaker 1: I have just moments that are beyond the pale, moments
- 21:21Speaker 1: that really illuminate who they are as individuals, what makes
- 21:25Speaker 1: their friendship click, what makes them shine as individuals. And
- 21:29Speaker 1: we got a great request to see we listen to
- 21:35Speaker 1: Donald and Zach talking about their encounters with Mariah Carey.
- 21:39Speaker 1: To be honest, I totally forgot about this story. I'm
- 21:43Speaker 1: so glad someone suggested it. I just listen, just listen,
- 21:47Speaker 1: It's great. Yeah, what what song would you put on
- 21:51Speaker 1: to cry? If I if I had to put on
- 21:53Speaker 1: a song? Oh? Man, you want to know what song?
- 21:55Speaker 1: It is the score from Bamby. It's about your people
- 21:58Speaker 1: to the Prince of Egypt. Whitney Houston and Mariah carry
- 22:03Speaker 1: There can be miracles if you believe the hope is
- 22:09Speaker 1: from It's hard to kill. Come on now, who knows
- 22:15Speaker 1: what miracles you when you believe somehow you will Joe, Well,
- 22:25Speaker 1: you're about to cry right now. I think this is
- 22:28Speaker 1: full talent show. It's the most beautiful song maybe I've heard. Yeah, listen, man,
- 22:33Speaker 1: it's about first of all the songs about when Pharaoh's
- 22:38Speaker 1: chasing the Jewish people out of Egypt. It's about that
- 22:42Speaker 1: is it's about the story of Moses. It goes all
- 22:45Speaker 1: the way through, it goes all the way through. It's
- 22:50Speaker 1: him going all the way through to him coming down
- 22:52Speaker 1: from the mountain with the tin commandments. Uh in in
- 22:57Speaker 1: the ark. Oh no, he has him in his hands.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I think at this at the commandment remember from the
- 23:03Speaker 1: what was it? The is it? The history of Earth?
- 23:06Speaker 1: These commandments? But the song is amazing, man, And you
- 23:20Speaker 1: know it's you know, so that's when you would put
- 23:22Speaker 1: on that's that song. It's if you ever need to cry,
- 23:26Speaker 1: whether it be, it's just such a hopeful song, you
- 23:29Speaker 1: know what I mean. We've spent this whole, this whole
- 23:34Speaker 1: I know we're jumping off topic and everything like that.
- 23:36Speaker 1: We've spent this whole time. You know. Amanda clutes Is,
- 23:39Speaker 1: you know, has delivered a lot of hope to people
- 23:43Speaker 1: in this world, you know what I mean. Her faith
- 23:45Speaker 1: and her belief really helped a lot of people when
- 23:50Speaker 1: Nick was sick. And you know, for some reason, when
- 23:55Speaker 1: when you have all of that faith and you have
- 23:57Speaker 1: all of that love, it overwhelms you. Man. And so
- 24:01Speaker 1: listening to a song like that, listening to there can
- 24:05Speaker 1: be me every cos when you believe, it just overflow.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You just overflow with hope and joy and and it
- 24:13Speaker 1: just works, you know what I mean. That's beautiful And
- 24:15Speaker 1: now I got listen to it. I've never seen the movie.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I've never heard the song. I'm sorry, did you get
- 24:18Speaker 1: the opportunity to check it out? There's a lot of
- 24:21Speaker 1: really good voiceover performances it was, but that song. First
- 24:30Speaker 1: of all, it was Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston singing it.
- 24:34Speaker 1: And I don't know if you were big Mariah Carry
- 24:36Speaker 1: or Whitney Houston fans. I'm first of all, I think
- 24:39Speaker 1: those are you know, of my lifetime two of the uh,
- 24:43Speaker 1: the true versions of what a diva is as far
- 24:46Speaker 1: as being able to sing. Had a Mariah Carey interaction once,
- 24:50Speaker 1: so did I was one of the best nights of
- 24:51Speaker 1: my life. What was yours? Well, mine wasn't like we've
- 24:53Speaker 1: made out or anything. Your sound Now we didn't make
- 24:55Speaker 1: a no no, no, no, no no no imagine yet
- 24:58Speaker 1: it was totally awesome. No, we didn't make I met
- 25:00Speaker 1: her and Derek Jeter in the same night. Wow, I
- 25:06Speaker 1: was peeing on a Mariah carry music video called up
- 25:09Speaker 1: on the roof. But you can go watch on YouTube
- 25:13Speaker 1: and uh, and you mean rooftop? No, it's called Oh
- 25:18Speaker 1: was it is the song up on the rooftop? I
- 25:20Speaker 1: thought it was up on the roof. I think it
- 25:21Speaker 1: might be. Joel. Can you double check with her? What's
- 25:25Speaker 1: the one with her and Mob Deep? Well, she doesn't
- 25:28Speaker 1: have two songs, one called up on the roof and
- 25:29Speaker 1: on the roof top. It's either one I think it's roof,
- 25:32Speaker 1: one called the roof, yeah, with mob Deep right, No,
- 25:36Speaker 1: this is called up on the mob Deep beat. I'm
- 25:39Speaker 1: telling you it's the Mob Deep beat. Told you now, Joel,
- 25:45Speaker 1: does she have one called up on the roof? I
- 25:48Speaker 1: will read that too, because I remember that I had
- 25:50Speaker 1: to lug all this stuff up to the roof. It's
- 25:56Speaker 1: just the roof, all right. Well listen, I elevator broke
- 26:00Speaker 1: in this building in Brooklyn and all the p a
- 26:02Speaker 1: s had to lug all the gear up to the roof,
- 26:04Speaker 1: and I was like to help her up. Her next
- 26:06Speaker 1: song is called lobby Anyway, I got you you being
- 26:18Speaker 1: a good dad? Could you have some really good dad jokes?
- 26:20Speaker 1: That I am going to be a great dad, but
- 26:25Speaker 1: not because of my jokes. Just because I'm hilarious. Listen.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Before the elevator broke, I got in with Mariah and
- 26:31Speaker 1: her whole posse and I was just the p A
- 26:33Speaker 1: and I had a baseball hat and I looked away, like,
- 26:35Speaker 1: you know, I thought you were finding I was fresh
- 26:37Speaker 1: out of Yeah. I just thought you don't look at
- 26:40Speaker 1: the star. I just look away. And she was like,
- 26:43Speaker 1: I like your baseball hat. It was my favorite baseball hat.
- 26:46Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, thank you, thank you, like
- 26:47Speaker 1: not making eye contact, like bobbing my head, and she
- 26:50Speaker 1: was like, I might want to wear that in the video.
- 26:53Speaker 1: And I was like, oh okay, and she's like to
- 26:56Speaker 1: kind of borrow it, and I was like, oh yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 1: so her like ento, she took my baseball hat and
- 27:01Speaker 1: it had like a red circle on it, and they
- 27:03Speaker 1: came back to me and they were like, hey, we
- 27:06Speaker 1: want to darken the red circle with sharpie. Is that okay?
- 27:09Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, it's kind of my favorite hat.
- 27:11Speaker 1: But I don't want to let down Mariah, let down
- 27:14Speaker 1: the whole team. You know. I just lugged everything up
- 27:16Speaker 1: to the roof. I want the video to be good,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you know, this is what I was thinking. And they're like,
- 27:20Speaker 1: we'll give you forty dollars if you'll let us darken
- 27:23Speaker 1: the red circle with sharpie. And I was like, I
- 27:26Speaker 1: didn't have any money. I was probably making a hundred
- 27:28Speaker 1: bucks to be the p A. I was like, gonna,
- 27:31Speaker 1: you know, increase my salary substantially. So I was like, yeah,
- 27:34Speaker 1: for forty bucks, y'all can just go to nuts on
- 27:36Speaker 1: it with a sharpie and I'll just have a great story.
- 27:38Speaker 1: So that's what happened. And I don't even I watched
- 27:41Speaker 1: the video in twenty years, but she's on the roof.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I know she's on the roof at any and if
- 27:48Speaker 1: at any point, I gotta see if at any point, anyone, anyone,
- 27:51Speaker 1: anyone who's curious, just go watch the video and see
- 27:54Speaker 1: if she's ever wearing a black baseball cap, because that's mine.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I got forty bucks extra. That was a hard shoot, Okay,
- 28:05Speaker 1: So by far, this was our most requested story. It
- 28:09Speaker 1: is the Jeff Sucker noggie story from the upfronts right
- 28:15Speaker 1: after they shot the pilot, where they go back and
- 28:19Speaker 1: remember the time that Tonald gave a nuggie to the
- 28:22Speaker 1: president of the production company. Uh, not a great look.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Not a great look. But a funny story that to
- 28:30Speaker 1: this day, to this day, it's quoted in this lovely
- 28:35Speaker 1: friendship that we all get to be a part of
- 28:37Speaker 1: because of Fake Doctor's real friends. But what I discovered
- 28:41Speaker 1: upon re listening is there's also like these really beautiful gems.
- 28:45Speaker 1: For example, I really like when Zex starts talking about
- 28:48Speaker 1: going back to the hotel room to rewatch the pilot,
- 28:51Speaker 1: which is of course such a nerdy thing to do,
- 28:53Speaker 1: but it's so sweet and innocent. It's just look at
- 28:55Speaker 1: this thing we made, and look, it's here, and it's ours,
- 28:58Speaker 1: and people are excited to watch it. And I think
- 29:00Speaker 1: if you're an artist, in a person who creates anything
- 29:03Speaker 1: that they're going to share, whether that's you know, a
- 29:06Speaker 1: beautiful cake, you're a fun T shirt or you know whatever,
- 29:11Speaker 1: that's the best part is like getting to give it
- 29:13Speaker 1: to other people and seeing their reactions. Um, and of
- 29:16Speaker 1: course celebrating with people who made it with you. So
- 29:19Speaker 1: please enjoy this early story of early fame from Zack
- 29:23Speaker 1: and Donald. Donald. You pointed out something very wise, and
- 29:29Speaker 1: that is that you know, when you do a pilot,
- 29:31Speaker 1: you shoot the pilot and then you have no idea
- 29:34Speaker 1: if the show is gonna get picked up, And there's
- 29:36Speaker 1: often a lot of time between when you shot the
- 29:39Speaker 1: pilot and then let's say the network says, Okay, we're
- 29:42Speaker 1: gonna make it a series, and then you go and
- 29:44Speaker 1: you you go to a thing called the upfronts, which
- 29:47Speaker 1: is when your show is selected. You go to a
- 29:49Speaker 1: huge party in New York City where they announced where
- 29:52Speaker 1: the network is going to announce all of the new shows.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And this is a very thrilling thing for a young actor,
- 29:58Speaker 1: absolutely and all. So when Scrubs got picked up, it
- 30:04Speaker 1: was considered one of the better pilots of that time.
- 30:08Speaker 1: And so when we went to Upfront, I remember all
- 30:10Speaker 1: of the heat that we had behind us at Upfront,
- 30:13Speaker 1: Like even the party for all of the upfront shows
- 30:17Speaker 1: was kind of themed towards us, you know what I mean.
- 30:21Speaker 1: And you know, you get there and you and you
- 30:23Speaker 1: and you meet a bunch of executives for the first time,
- 30:27Speaker 1: and you don't really know who they are, because nobody
- 30:30Speaker 1: really knows executives until you're on the network and somebody
- 30:33Speaker 1: tells you, Okay, that's my boss and that's his boss,
- 30:37Speaker 1: and that reminds me of a wonderful story about you
- 30:41Speaker 1: because we were we were so first we go to
- 30:43Speaker 1: the party and it's this amazing party and it's you know,
- 30:45Speaker 1: we were just wide out. We couldn't believe we were here.
- 30:48Speaker 1: I mean, I was waiting tables a few months ago
- 30:50Speaker 1: and and uh, here we are in New York at
- 30:53Speaker 1: this giant party and you have to you take pictures
- 30:56Speaker 1: with a lot of people, and you know, you're getting
- 30:57Speaker 1: treated like a celebrity and you're not only even knows
- 31:00Speaker 1: who you are really yet, at least especially in my case.
- 31:03Speaker 1: And um, and then then we go to this party
- 31:06Speaker 1: and there were celebrities at the party. I remember Kevin Nelon,
- 31:09Speaker 1: who I was a huge fan of from SNL as
- 31:11Speaker 1: an example. He was I think literally might have been
- 31:14Speaker 1: one of the first celebrities I ever met, was Kevin
- 31:17Speaker 1: Neilan at this party, and I remember thinking like, oh
- 31:19Speaker 1: my god, we're hanging out with with celebrities, Like we've
- 31:22Speaker 1: made it. Yeah, you know. Sean Hayes was another person
- 31:26Speaker 1: who was a big champion, like he loved the show,
- 31:29Speaker 1: and it was really awesome to have the dude from
- 31:31Speaker 1: Will and Grace, who at this point was really famous
- 31:35Speaker 1: on television. That show was snug And do you remember
- 31:37Speaker 1: any other stars that were at that party. I remember.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I just remember because I was such an SNL fan
- 31:41Speaker 1: as a kid that I was so geeked out that
- 31:43Speaker 1: that Kevin Nealon was there. I think there may have
- 31:45Speaker 1: been some other older SNL faces, but it was it
- 31:49Speaker 1: was all the a. It was like a NBC rich
- 31:52Speaker 1: at any anyone who was on NBC at that time
- 31:55Speaker 1: was at at the party. Now we proceeded, understandably to
- 32:00Speaker 1: get quite intoxicated at this party. I remember Bill Lawrence saying, like,
- 32:04Speaker 1: all right, guys, just so you know, like don't like,
- 32:06Speaker 1: you know, there's be a lot of executives at this party,
- 32:08Speaker 1: Like I understand your New York your life's just changed,
- 32:11Speaker 1: but like, don't get ship faced to all of us,
- 32:15Speaker 1: all of us, all of us. Sarah Chuck's famous line,
- 32:20Speaker 1: I mean, you guys ever heard of a Cosmopolitan? Yeah, Sara,
- 32:25Speaker 1: Sarah stumbled up to a sideways and she's like, have
- 32:28Speaker 1: you guys ever heard of a Cosmopolitan? They're great? And
- 32:33Speaker 1: then I remember cut for some reason at this bar.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Wasn't there like a trappiece like a trapeze, but not
- 32:39Speaker 1: a trapeze? What do you call that thing where you
- 32:40Speaker 1: swing on a trapeezels, way too dangerous to bid a
- 32:45Speaker 1: real trapeeze, but was there. It was something like that.
- 32:47Speaker 1: It was a bar in the middle. It was like
- 32:49Speaker 1: a bar. I think he was on in the middle
- 32:51Speaker 1: of the bar. It was in the meat Paggy Street.
- 32:53Speaker 1: I think it was called Park or something anyway, and
- 32:55Speaker 1: she was on. I remember her being on the bar
- 32:58Speaker 1: and flipping over and just showing everybody, you know, what
- 33:02Speaker 1: she had on underneath that dress she wore that day
- 33:06Speaker 1: because she was and I remember her husband at the
- 33:08Speaker 1: time being like, that's it, We're going home, to go home,
- 33:11Speaker 1: let's go. My favorite part of the night is Donald
- 33:14Speaker 1: was giving everyone noogies and well, all right, let's let's go.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Let me tell the story and then you can clarify.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Let me tell the Let's start from the beginning, though,
- 33:22Speaker 1: Let's start from the very beginning. Okay. So Scott Sassa
- 33:26Speaker 1: was the dude that I thought was in charge of
- 33:28Speaker 1: all of NBC at the time. I think he was
- 33:32Speaker 1: higher up than than Jeff Zucker, who we're going to
- 33:35Speaker 1: talk about. Jeff Zucker was the I believe, the president
- 33:38Speaker 1: of NBC who is now actually now the president of CNN,
- 33:42Speaker 1: but at the time he was the president of NBC.
- 33:45Speaker 1: He had just come from whatever the Today Show at
- 33:48Speaker 1: the time, and then he gone on to be the
- 33:52Speaker 1: head of NBC. And I didn't know this, so Donald
- 33:55Speaker 1: didn't know who he was. You're gonna ruin my story.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Donald didn't know who he was. I thought he was
- 33:58Speaker 1: Scott Sasson's that says it. And Donald was going around
- 34:01Speaker 1: giving everyone noggies. And I look over and Donald has
- 34:04Speaker 1: Jeff Zucker, the president of the network, in a full headlock,
- 34:09Speaker 1: and he's giving him a drunken noggie on his bald head.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And I hear Jeff Zucker, go, please Donald, No, that's okay.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Entire friendship. Whenever Donald like tells me a cringe e
- 34:27Speaker 1: story that makes me want to run away, I just
- 34:29Speaker 1: tell him about please Donald, no, Jeff Zucker. You know,
- 34:32Speaker 1: at this point, I'm giving everybody love because I'm so
- 34:35Speaker 1: excited that we're on the network. It's going down, and
- 34:38Speaker 1: I look over and I see Jeff Zucker in my mind,
- 34:42Speaker 1: Scott Sass's assistant standing over by the bar, uh, you know,
- 34:47Speaker 1: by himself, or he might even have been with somebody,
- 34:50Speaker 1: and I'm like, hey, you come over here. I got
- 34:52Speaker 1: nuggies to give out, and he's like, he's like no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 34:55Speaker 1: no no no. And I point at him again and
- 34:57Speaker 1: I'm like and I get a little bit more, you know,
- 35:00Speaker 1: grow about it, and I'm like, no, you get over
- 35:02Speaker 1: here right now. And he's like no, no, no, no
- 35:05Speaker 1: no no. And so I marched over to him, drunk
- 35:08Speaker 1: as Kim. I've seen you march when Donald marches his
- 35:12Speaker 1: arms swing and I walk up to him and I
- 35:15Speaker 1: grabbed him and I put him in the headlock, and
- 35:16Speaker 1: I'm like, don't you ever tell me no? And I'm
- 35:19Speaker 1: grabbing him and I'm giving Jeff Zucker a nuggie. And
- 35:22Speaker 1: I remember Bill Lawrence like a few days later being like, dude, Donald,
- 35:28Speaker 1: I just have to ask you if this actually happened,
- 35:32Speaker 1: but did you give Jeff Zucker a noogie? I was like,
- 35:35Speaker 1: I gave so many people nuggies. I gave so many
- 35:38Speaker 1: I can't recall who who was. And he was like, well,
- 35:42Speaker 1: apparently you gave the head of NBC a noogie. And
- 35:49Speaker 1: he's not really happy about it. But he wasn't genuinely
- 35:51Speaker 1: piste off, was he. No. I don't think he was
- 35:53Speaker 1: genuinely piste off, but he stayed away from me here.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I remember remember he did come to visit the set
- 35:58Speaker 1: of the hospital and and he kind of stayed away
- 36:01Speaker 1: from you because he was, um, yeah, that's very funny.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Well what else do you so? So then I remember
- 36:07Speaker 1: that night ended where we were in I wasn't there.
- 36:10Speaker 1: You were, this was you and Neelon, I wasn't there.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Almost almost everybody ended up back in Bill and Christa's
- 36:18Speaker 1: hotel room, and we it's kind of it's sweet slash embarrassing.
- 36:21Speaker 1: We were so geeked out. We were like, let's watch
- 36:23Speaker 1: our pilot. So we were like it was like a
- 36:25Speaker 1: whole bunch of people and Kevin Kneelin, who I was
- 36:28Speaker 1: a super fan of, and we just were watching the
- 36:31Speaker 1: show and I don't know, it's a sweet moment. I
- 36:32Speaker 1: remember being like just thinking like I can't believe this
- 36:36Speaker 1: is happening. But then the funny thing is you have
- 36:38Speaker 1: a long time before you start shooting. So we made
- 36:41Speaker 1: the show. It got picked up. My mom freaked out
- 36:43Speaker 1: that I was like that I quit my waiting tables job.
- 36:45Speaker 1: She was like, but what so long we are you
- 36:48Speaker 1: gonna do? And I was like, I, Mom, I I
- 36:50Speaker 1: I can live off this pilot money for a long
- 36:53Speaker 1: I was living so frugally with no money that I
- 36:55Speaker 1: was like, I can live off this pilot money for
- 36:57Speaker 1: a long time, so I'm gonna write. And in that
- 37:00Speaker 1: time is when I really finally sat down and put
- 37:02Speaker 1: Garden State together and at my dining room table and
- 37:06Speaker 1: kind of look was like, this is a sign I
- 37:08Speaker 1: need to I have this time that the universe gave
- 37:11Speaker 1: me and I don't need to wait tables, and I'm
- 37:12Speaker 1: gonna sit down and like put this script together. That's awesome.
- 37:16Speaker 1: So this last story is one I just wanted to
- 37:19Speaker 1: put in there for myself. Getting to meet Sarah Chalk
- 37:22Speaker 1: on the show has been an incredible experience. She's everything
- 37:26Speaker 1: you hope she might be. She's kind and truly so
- 37:30Speaker 1: so funny, um and generous, a very generous soul. And
- 37:34Speaker 1: you only need to know her for about five minutes
- 37:36Speaker 1: before you can see that. And there's something really great
- 37:40Speaker 1: about this trio of Donald, Zach and Sarah. Their energy,
- 37:44Speaker 1: the way they lately poked fun of each other, the
- 37:47Speaker 1: way they pump each other up to though, like there's
- 37:50Speaker 1: not a lot of tearing down in this friend group,
- 37:52Speaker 1: and every time we have them together. I just sort
- 37:54Speaker 1: of want to bask in the glow of their delicious conversation.
- 37:57Speaker 1: They are. They're kind of, I think, the friends everybody
- 38:01Speaker 1: wants to be and or have, And so I wanted
- 38:04Speaker 1: to stick this on the end because, man, listening to
- 38:07Speaker 1: these guys talk about their early struggles but also their
- 38:10Speaker 1: early accomplishments, but also how they stayed grounded, it's a
- 38:14Speaker 1: really fun journey. So here's they're talking a little bit
- 38:17Speaker 1: about the dressing room situation at Scrubs and Sacred Heart.
- 38:22Speaker 1: So I hope you guys enjoy it. We miss you.
- 38:28Speaker 1: We were taught. We've been talking about how we never
- 38:30Speaker 1: see you and we miss your face. I miss you
- 38:34Speaker 1: guys too. We got the band back together on zoom. No,
- 38:36Speaker 1: look at this, the band's back together. Band is back together.
- 38:40Speaker 1: We can't do our handshake virtually Donald and make zact jealous.
- 38:44Speaker 1: He doesn't like jealous. I never whenever people do those
- 38:49Speaker 1: like epically long handshakes, I I frowned, but only because
- 38:53Speaker 1: I I've never been involved with one and I couldn't
- 38:55Speaker 1: possibly remember it, So maybe I'm just jealous. I have
- 38:57Speaker 1: a very long one with Sarah Chalk, and I have
- 39:00Speaker 1: a very long one with Breck and Meyer. Those are
- 39:02Speaker 1: the only two handshakes that I have in my life
- 39:05Speaker 1: where I'm like, Jesus is a longass hand shake. Could
- 39:07Speaker 1: you and Sarah get right back into it without fault
- 39:10Speaker 1: right now? You think, get a girl running, man, you
- 39:18Speaker 1: get it. So we were talking to the last episode
- 39:22Speaker 1: about your your epic. We were talking about your your epic.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Um I told you so dance and how long it was?
- 39:30Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's so funny. People send me that
- 39:33Speaker 1: at different moments in my life over social media. That
- 39:37Speaker 1: was one of those fun times on scrubs. Like, what
- 39:38Speaker 1: a unique job when you get to do this where
- 39:40Speaker 1: Bill was just like the line in the script that
- 39:43Speaker 1: I told you so, and he said instead of saying that,
- 39:45Speaker 1: just make up like a song and a dance. And
- 39:48Speaker 1: I told you so a song and dance. And so
- 39:50Speaker 1: you know, it's not frequently you have to do that
- 39:53Speaker 1: on the job. So it's fun. Well, do you remember
- 39:56Speaker 1: getting down into the splits, Yeah, it's hard to get
- 39:59Speaker 1: out of him. Remember getting down into it and being like,
- 40:01Speaker 1: and I'm stuff. I was gonna say that. There's some
- 40:06Speaker 1: video I think on one of the Gabriels where people
- 40:08Speaker 1: can watch on usually if you're if you're interested, we're
- 40:11Speaker 1: Sarry just kept going and going and going with her.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I Told you So dance and they only could put
- 40:16Speaker 1: a short piece of it in the show, but it
- 40:18Speaker 1: like it went on for like a full minute. I think,
- 40:21Speaker 1: oh yeah, they didn't cut so I just kept going
- 40:23Speaker 1: and then um brought in some French and German like
- 40:29Speaker 1: I told you So in German, which is yah to
- 40:31Speaker 1: kept Kazakh because obviously, after being tortured going to German
- 40:33Speaker 1: school twice a week for my entire upbringing, anytime I can,
- 40:38Speaker 1: you know, feel that it's actually it's only been useful
- 40:41Speaker 1: in scrubs. That's the only time I've ever used my German.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Really would go to international upfronts and stuff like that.
- 40:47Speaker 1: It was always when you do press, you must be
- 40:50Speaker 1: very popular with the French and German press, I would think.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Because Sarah is fully trilingual, not anymore. I was as
- 40:57Speaker 1: a kid. French. I still I I can speak, but
- 41:00Speaker 1: after my grandmother died, we don't really speak German anymore.
- 41:03Speaker 1: So I've lost so much of it. But I but
- 41:06Speaker 1: French I still has because that was, you know, all day,
- 41:10Speaker 1: everyday school was in French, like math, science, pe everything.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I'm so jealous of people. I wish multiple language. I
- 41:16Speaker 1: wish I could speak multiple languages. Men like I tried
- 41:19Speaker 1: to get the Rosetta stone and failed at it, you
- 41:23Speaker 1: know what I mean? But I failed at it. No,
- 41:26Speaker 1: you didn't fail at it. You just didn't commit donald.
- 41:28Speaker 1: That's that that that you know what, that's a better
- 41:31Speaker 1: way to look at it. That's a that's a that's
- 41:33Speaker 1: a better way to look at it. But you know,
- 41:35Speaker 1: I probably could have been grade at basketball if I
- 41:37Speaker 1: dedicated a lot of time to it. I mean, I'm
- 41:39Speaker 1: not saying I would have been like had natural super skills,
- 41:42Speaker 1: but I always think of it like like, you know,
- 41:45Speaker 1: it's what you dedicate time and focus and energy to.
- 41:48Speaker 1: You know what, You're absolutely right, because I know a
- 41:50Speaker 1: lot of people who didn't play sports growing up and
- 41:53Speaker 1: put a lot of energy into sports when they got older,
- 41:57Speaker 1: meaning like tennis or go all for something like that,
- 42:01Speaker 1: and now they are very good at those sports, right
- 42:05Speaker 1: I imagine. I just I just want to clarify for yourself,
- 42:07Speaker 1: for your own psyche, that you could probably be You
- 42:10Speaker 1: could easily become bilingual if you cared enough to if
- 42:14Speaker 1: you dedicated the hours you dedicate to animation. To learn
- 42:17Speaker 1: a language, I probably, I probably would be fluent. What
- 42:20Speaker 1: language would you choose? What language? I could choose a
- 42:23Speaker 1: language that's interesting. I would choose Spanish because, um, here
- 42:28Speaker 1: we are living in California, and it feels like makes
- 42:33Speaker 1: the most sense to be able to speak with so
- 42:35Speaker 1: many Spanish speakers that are here. Yeah, Spanish is a
- 42:38Speaker 1: good one. Uh wow, as probably a good one. Now
- 42:44Speaker 1: French is a good one. But if I could, I
- 42:47Speaker 1: would want to choose something that's like out of the ordinary. Hebrew,
- 42:52Speaker 1: I would I would love to learn. That would be great. Actually,
- 42:56Speaker 1: oh my god, you speaking Hebrew in Israel would be
- 42:58Speaker 1: one of the one of the most amazing things. Can
- 43:00Speaker 1: you just do it? Please, We'll do it together. We'll
- 43:03Speaker 1: do it together. That would be great. I mean, well, Sarah,
- 43:08Speaker 1: we were talking about just sports stuff like that, learning
- 43:11Speaker 1: sports and stuff. I thought you wanted to say something.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Go ahead, Oh no, I just want to say two things. Um.
- 43:16Speaker 1: One that yes, Donald, pick a language and absolutely master it.
- 43:20Speaker 1: In terms of languages, I kind of cheated because I
- 43:22Speaker 1: was a kid, and I feel as a kid, it's
- 43:24Speaker 1: like it's just insert. It's like a gift into your brain.
- 43:27Speaker 1: It's so easy, and as an adult and so much harder.
- 43:29Speaker 1: But but sports, I'm I'm living proof that what Zach
- 43:32Speaker 1: just said is not true about you could play basketball
- 43:36Speaker 1: and become really good. I devoted so much time in
- 43:40Speaker 1: my youth to basketball. It's all I wanted, and I
- 43:42Speaker 1: wanted it's so bad. And I tried out for the
- 43:44Speaker 1: basketball team in grade five, grade six, grade seven, I
- 43:47Speaker 1: was at our neighbor's hoop in the pouring rain in Canada,
- 43:49Speaker 1: practicing every day. And then try outs for grade seven
- 43:53Speaker 1: basketball came and I was like, this is my year.
- 43:55Speaker 1: The basketball came from across the court, hit me square
- 43:58Speaker 1: in the face and started a serious of like crazy
- 44:00Speaker 1: nose plays but lasted for months until I got my
- 44:02Speaker 1: nose cautter eyes. But anyways, um, I kept trying out
- 44:04Speaker 1: for the team, and I kept practicing, and I take
- 44:06Speaker 1: like camps and I would I would try so hard.
- 44:09Speaker 1: And finally, in grade ten, and I was still the
- 44:12Speaker 1: shortest kid in the class, I grew and I was
- 44:14Speaker 1: like really like eighteen or something, so I uh, I
- 44:18Speaker 1: finally made the team. And Blake, who you both met,
- 44:22Speaker 1: who's my brother in law, was two years older and
- 44:24Speaker 1: was my coach and makes fun of me till this day.
- 44:27Speaker 1: And I made the team, but I spent the whole
- 44:29Speaker 1: time on the bench. But I was like, I didn't
- 44:31Speaker 1: care because I had a jersey and I was on
- 44:33Speaker 1: the team, and I was getting on the bus with
- 44:35Speaker 1: all of my buddies to go to the game, and
- 44:37Speaker 1: that's all I wanted. And we had a really good team.
- 44:39Speaker 1: And they would put me on the center forward as
- 44:40Speaker 1: like a joke when we were beating the other team,
- 44:42Speaker 1: like seventy to four, and I'd be like jumping, trying,
- 44:47Speaker 1: like and it was all effort, no skill, so trying
- 44:50Speaker 1: so hard and just yeah, well, you know what, you
- 44:55Speaker 1: made the team. So all of that practice paid off
- 44:59Speaker 1: and you got to run up and down a couple
- 45:01Speaker 1: of for a couple of minutes during every game that year.
- 45:03Speaker 1: I'm sure I don't think a lot of people say,
- 45:07Speaker 1: and I'm including myself on this, like oh I suck
- 45:09Speaker 1: at that, Oh I suck at that. Oh I can't cook,
- 45:11Speaker 1: Oh I can't drive a motorcycle. Oh I can't play basketball,
- 45:14Speaker 1: And it's like, no, well, maybe you're not amazing at it,
- 45:17Speaker 1: but you never dedicated any fucking time to trying. Right, Well,
- 45:21Speaker 1: there is that, there is there is that. There is that.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Like I say all the time, I can't write. And
- 45:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you. I can imagine so much,
- 45:32Speaker 1: and I can and I can and I can come
- 45:34Speaker 1: up with so many stories. You know what I've never done, No,
- 45:37Speaker 1: you know what, I've never practiced trying to write it
- 45:40Speaker 1: into trying to write it down. I've always worked well,
- 45:45Speaker 1: I've got this idea and somebody's like, oh, you should
- 45:47Speaker 1: write it down, and I'm like, oh, no, I'm not
- 45:49Speaker 1: a writer. How would I ever know if I don't
- 45:52Speaker 1: sit down and I put the pen to pad. Of course,
- 45:55Speaker 1: just to just imagine something you love, like in your case,
- 45:57Speaker 1: would be animation or basketball, or of imagine all those
- 46:01Speaker 1: hours you had been in a writing class, right, you
- 46:04Speaker 1: know you'd probably be a amazing writer, right or or
- 46:08Speaker 1: or or practicing, not just sitting in a class. It's
- 46:11Speaker 1: like you said, I would learn how to write. That
- 46:14Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily mean I'd be a great writer. I might
- 46:17Speaker 1: not be great at it, but I would be able
- 46:19Speaker 1: to understand structure and I would understand you know, how
- 46:23Speaker 1: to tell us. You would still get way better. You
- 46:26Speaker 1: would get way better even if no matter where you're
- 46:28Speaker 1: starting it, will you become of the greatest writers of
- 46:30Speaker 1: all time. No, but if you but you'd be, you'd
- 46:32Speaker 1: I guarantee you, with practice you'd be you'd be pretty
- 46:36Speaker 1: darn good. I feel like, you know, you get you
- 46:38Speaker 1: get put in a box as a kid of the
- 46:41Speaker 1: things you can and can't do so early. And you know,
- 46:44Speaker 1: for me, that was singing. I was in grade five
- 46:46Speaker 1: and Mrs McKinnon was like, chalk girls, just mouth the
- 46:49Speaker 1: words for this performance to my sister and I when
- 46:51Speaker 1: we were singing Christmas carols in a mall for like
- 46:53Speaker 1: some school, not a fancy choir, like a school choir.
- 46:55Speaker 1: And I feel like it was like that moment where
- 46:59Speaker 1: I love nothing more than musical theater and was doing
- 47:02Speaker 1: musical theater after school, and it just completely shut me
- 47:07Speaker 1: down and put me in this box of like, oh,
- 47:08Speaker 1: that's something that I can't do, so I stopped working
- 47:11Speaker 1: at it and learning and trying. And who knows where
- 47:14Speaker 1: you would have gotten if you would have kept going,
- 47:16Speaker 1: You could have been at epine. Well you think it's
- 47:21Speaker 1: you think. I remember a kid I went to school
- 47:24Speaker 1: with could not really sing that well. He could barely
- 47:26Speaker 1: hold a tune, you know what I mean. But he
- 47:29Speaker 1: could play the piano really really well right when he graduated.
- 47:34Speaker 1: He's gone on now to write songs. He performs all
- 47:39Speaker 1: the time. He's an amazing artist, you know what I mean.
- 47:44Speaker 1: But I remember when he couldn't sing. He could sing
- 47:47Speaker 1: his ass off, now, you know what I mean. My
- 47:49Speaker 1: little brother, Allow me day when he was in a
- 47:52Speaker 1: band called Imagine. When he auditioned for the band Imagine,
- 47:55Speaker 1: he uh, he sang show tunes because that's all he knew.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I think it's all edition was something like, you know,
- 48:01Speaker 1: the song of Peter I Won't Grow Up Mad. No.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I think that was his audition for the band, and
- 48:11Speaker 1: they were like, well, the kid can the kid can
- 48:13Speaker 1: hold a tune. Let's see if we can work with him. Now,
- 48:15Speaker 1: my little brother, he has music that he works on
- 48:18Speaker 1: all the time and he tries to get it out
- 48:20Speaker 1: and he's you know, he's doing his thing as a musician,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and he's a very good singer and he sings, if
- 48:25Speaker 1: you ask me, he sings better than a lot of
- 48:27Speaker 1: his motherfucker's out right now. But that's just how do
- 48:29Speaker 1: we how do we hear his music? Yeah, we'll we'll
- 48:33Speaker 1: shout him out at your old hommy day. Why oh
- 48:40Speaker 1: oh l A M I d E. I think that's it, I,
- 48:44Speaker 1: you know, to be honest with you, I wasn't expecting
- 48:45Speaker 1: to shout him out like that, but I think that's
- 48:47Speaker 1: his handle on Instagram. Uh, we'll fix it if it's not. Anyway,
- 48:54Speaker 1: he worked really hard to get where he was, so
- 48:57Speaker 1: I understand. I understand the premise. That doesn't necessarily mean
- 49:00Speaker 1: you're gonna be the greatest. I'm just saying. I'm just saying.
- 49:05Speaker 1: An epiphany I had in my own life, you know,
- 49:07Speaker 1: in my in my twenties, was you know, stop saying
- 49:11Speaker 1: you suck at X, Y and Z and not. It's
- 49:13Speaker 1: not that you don't, but it's because you haven't dedicated
- 49:15Speaker 1: any interest. And it comes at any time, and it
- 49:17Speaker 1: becomes it comes with interest. So the things that we're
- 49:20Speaker 1: all interested in in our own lives, our own hobbies
- 49:22Speaker 1: and things outside of being an actor, will dedicate countless
- 49:26Speaker 1: hours too. For me, one of my hobbies is photography.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I will be online looking at cameras and playing with
- 49:33Speaker 1: new cameras, you know, for endless hours. Now I could
- 49:36Speaker 1: be dedicating at time to something else and get quite
- 49:39Speaker 1: good at that thing. So it's just foolish just say like,
- 49:42Speaker 1: oh I suck at that. You might, but it's it's
- 49:44Speaker 1: not because you you you it's in your bones. It's
- 49:46Speaker 1: because you didn't dedicate any commitment to time. That's all
- 49:49Speaker 1: I'm right, age and and and that also goes for
- 49:53Speaker 1: learning lines also, yes, just putt yeah. Donald always used
- 49:58Speaker 1: to say, and always does say, oh I can't to
- 50:00Speaker 1: learn lines. That's bullshit. You were sucking high watching basketball.
- 50:03Speaker 1: That was That was honest. That's the honest to goodness truth.
- 50:06Speaker 1: And when I stopped doing all of that, I found
- 50:09Speaker 1: that learning lines was actually very easy to do. When
- 50:13Speaker 1: you just look, if you can't learn it in two hours,
- 50:16Speaker 1: there's something wrong, you know what I mean? You should
- 50:18Speaker 1: really think about finding other exercises to do when it
- 50:22Speaker 1: comes to line learning. That is, it's just a matter
- 50:24Speaker 1: of practice for me. I miss you guys too, and
- 50:29Speaker 1: you guys have been keeping me entertained and happy. Are
- 50:32Speaker 1: you really listening because we had to prove that. I
- 50:34Speaker 1: don't know if you heard the episode with Randall, but
- 50:36Speaker 1: he tried to act like he was listening and then
- 50:37Speaker 1: he said three to one and he got out in three. No,
- 50:42Speaker 1: I've been listening. I've I haven't heard all of them.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I've heard a bunch of them, and it's making me
- 50:46Speaker 1: so happy. And I can't believe how much you guys remember.
- 50:48Speaker 1: And it's so fun to just, especially in a time
- 50:51Speaker 1: like this, like go back into that go back into
- 50:54Speaker 1: that headspace. And we had I just we had so
- 50:56Speaker 1: much fun. We had so many fucking laughs and I, um, yeah,
- 51:00Speaker 1: all of it. Like Donald singing Stafford and Son. The
- 51:03Speaker 1: other day, Um, you know what it is, Well, you
- 51:08Speaker 1: know what it is. I was hanging out with Paul
- 51:10Speaker 1: Rudd and Alicia Silverstone and Breck and Meyer doing a
- 51:13Speaker 1: Clueless reunion like a year and a half ago or
- 51:15Speaker 1: something like that, right, And Paul said something that was
- 51:18Speaker 1: very very interesting. He was like, we have history together,
- 51:24Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So because we have history together,
- 51:28Speaker 1: it's so easy to fall back into where we were
- 51:33Speaker 1: when we were working on scrubs, right he was he
- 51:37Speaker 1: was saying clueless. He was like, we had such a
- 51:40Speaker 1: great time and it was such a big opportunity for
- 51:43Speaker 1: all of us, and it turned into something so big
- 51:46Speaker 1: that when we see each other you can't help but
- 51:49Speaker 1: reminiscent feel all of those great feelings that you had
- 51:52Speaker 1: when ship jumped off, right. I think also, you know,
- 51:56Speaker 1: when we did the show, we didn't have all these
- 51:59Speaker 1: years of knowing just how special it really was. I mean,
- 52:03Speaker 1: we've all done plenty of jobs since and continue to
- 52:07Speaker 1: work and will till till our dying day. But I
- 52:10Speaker 1: think when I watched these episodes back and I talk
- 52:14Speaker 1: to you guys, and it's great seeing everyone now we're
- 52:16Speaker 1: doing the show. We see you, sorry, we saw Johnny.
- 52:18Speaker 1: See we see people that we don't see all the time.
- 52:20Speaker 1: It's it's even bring back more nostalgia for me because
- 52:22Speaker 1: I'm going, Wow, what a what a unique time this
- 52:25Speaker 1: was to not only do something for so long, but
- 52:28Speaker 1: to create this wonderful bond with these with these people,
- 52:31Speaker 1: and um, it's you know a lot of jobs as
- 52:34Speaker 1: an actor that you do. They're fun and everyone's cool
- 52:36Speaker 1: and and it works or it doesn't, but it isn't
- 52:39Speaker 1: such a special thing where where you have these lifelong
- 52:41Speaker 1: bonds with people. It's so true, is it was? It was?
- 52:44Speaker 1: It was our twenties right like it was our twenties.
- 52:46Speaker 1: It was such a formative time, I think too, in
- 52:48Speaker 1: our lives and then for it to be on such
- 52:52Speaker 1: a special show and yeah, like you guys are saying, like,
- 52:54Speaker 1: you know, we realize being adults, like how fucking rare
- 52:57Speaker 1: that is and to have you know, I mean, we
- 52:59Speaker 1: would we would spend it was like you guys were
- 53:02Speaker 1: talking about with Randall. It's like we would spend sixteen
- 53:05Speaker 1: twenty hours shooting. We would go over time that people
- 53:07Speaker 1: don't never do anymore, and then we would go with
- 53:09Speaker 1: the whole crew to the Money Tree, you know on
- 53:12Speaker 1: a Friday night. We would have wine and cheese Fridays.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I mean we've literally just spent like over hundred hours together.
- 53:21Speaker 1: And then you know, and then are still hanging out
- 53:23Speaker 1: or would hang out on the weekends, and I mean
- 53:25Speaker 1: really all lunch together. I mean, I don't know if
- 53:27Speaker 1: you guys now nowadays on sets people are like later,
- 53:34Speaker 1: but we used to every single day for nine for
- 53:36Speaker 1: eight years, Um, have lunch together. Yeah, it's so, it's
- 53:42Speaker 1: so um, it's so rare. I was working on a
- 53:45Speaker 1: job like a year ago, and I just I was
- 53:47Speaker 1: new there and I just grabbed my train, went down
- 53:48Speaker 1: and sat with the crew and a couple of guys
- 53:50Speaker 1: that I'd worked with years and years ago, and somebody
- 53:54Speaker 1: said like, oh, actually, you just go to the trail.
- 53:56Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, that's not how That's not
- 53:58Speaker 1: how I grew up. That's not what I enjoyed. I
- 54:00Speaker 1: um and uh it was. Yeah. I don't know if
- 54:03Speaker 1: you guys remember, but Carrie Bennett are amazing costume designer
- 54:07Speaker 1: who hanous scrubs. I definitely remember Carrie Bennett. I think,
- 54:12Speaker 1: oh my god, she was so great. So she she
- 54:15Speaker 1: she she'd say to me, you know, after lunch, she
- 54:17Speaker 1: was like, Sarah, um, I don't say this, but we're
- 54:20Speaker 1: running out of scrubs, in of your scrubs, and and
- 54:24Speaker 1: we we we we just need to We're gonna give
- 54:26Speaker 1: you this art smock as a as a Giant did
- 54:29Speaker 1: and you've got to wear it to the lunch tin.
- 54:31Speaker 1: And I was like, you're kidding me, right, Carrie, And
- 54:33Speaker 1: she's like, no, no, just like wear it and then
- 54:35Speaker 1: it will protect the scrubs, these beautiful baby blue scrubs
- 54:38Speaker 1: from the chili stain. And uh so I did, and
- 54:42Speaker 1: it was kind of humiliating, and I was super proud.
- 54:44Speaker 1: I came back from lunch and I'm like, Carrie, and
- 54:47Speaker 1: then I had taken a quick disco nap in my
- 54:50Speaker 1: dressing room and I fell asleep on a sharpie And
- 54:54Speaker 1: so these baby blue scrubs that were like pristine on
- 54:57Speaker 1: the front had like a sharpie stain the size of
- 55:00Speaker 1: a grape fruit on the butt. Sarah, is it okay
- 55:02Speaker 1: to tell everyone, um that you're not necessarily the tidiest person?
- 55:10Speaker 1: Oh my god, I forgot about that. Your dressing room.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Oh how did you find anything? And never? You've never
- 55:19Speaker 1: seen anything like it? People, Oh, come along, Well, I
- 55:26Speaker 1: don't know, do you guys? Remember I moved dressing rooms
- 55:27Speaker 1: because I was between your two dressing rooms at the
- 55:30Speaker 1: right end of the hallway. And then in whatever season
- 55:33Speaker 1: that Heather Graham came on, she was coming for eight episodes,
- 55:36Speaker 1: and they made her a really nice dressing room. They
- 55:39Speaker 1: brought in like new carpeting and they painted. They brought
- 55:41Speaker 1: in this cute little couch and it was smaller than
- 55:44Speaker 1: it was so pretty, And so when she left they
- 55:47Speaker 1: let me have it. So I ended up switching over
- 55:49Speaker 1: the Heather's dressing up. They fixed up a dressing room
- 55:52Speaker 1: because he Their Graham was coming, and then when she left,
- 55:54Speaker 1: you were like, can I have it? And they were
- 55:56Speaker 1: like sure, like, it's so funked up. After all this time,
- 55:58Speaker 1: you didn't get that dressing room, but that you moved
- 56:01Speaker 1: across the hall. That's right, you moved to the other side.
- 56:04Speaker 1: Oh but okay, yes I did. And And as more
- 56:07Speaker 1: proof that I've been listening to your podcast, Johnny C.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I was laughing so hard. He was like, it was like,
- 56:14Speaker 1: remember how we each got fifteen hundred dollars from Disney
- 56:16Speaker 1: every year to improve our dressing rooms. I was like,
- 56:19Speaker 1: hell no, I remember just going there. Remember I remember
- 56:24Speaker 1: going into Donald didn't have much to core and he
- 56:27Speaker 1: would just like like whatever, whatever the latest video game
- 56:30Speaker 1: system and the controllers everywhere, and then and then Sarah
- 56:34Speaker 1: looked like exploded. There was just like shit everywhere. Kind
- 56:42Speaker 1: of was a teenager. I mean when I look fact
- 56:44Speaker 1: of those episodes, we were babies, like yeah, but you
- 56:46Speaker 1: were you weren't a teenager kid. And then your your
- 56:52Speaker 1: dressing room looked like fucking you would walk in and
- 56:55Speaker 1: it would smell good, you had freaking art on the
- 56:57Speaker 1: wall and ship like that. I was there. I was
- 57:00Speaker 1: there my whole life. I thought it had to be
- 57:01Speaker 1: a little bit nice. But I want everyone to realize
- 57:04Speaker 1: these are still hospital rooms. Okay, these are small hospital
- 57:07Speaker 1: rooms that basically just had some I keya furniture and
- 57:10Speaker 1: a fresh coat of paint, but still have changed your
- 57:14Speaker 1: ship up a little bit more than just I keya furniture.
- 57:17Speaker 1: Like they were like, Zach, here's your room, and you
- 57:20Speaker 1: were like, no, we gotta fix it. Hold on now,
- 57:22Speaker 1: hold hold on. Where did you get this? Where did
- 57:24Speaker 1: you get this furniture from Kia? No? No, no, no,
- 57:26Speaker 1: We're gonna have to get pottery barn. Like you. It
- 57:31Speaker 1: was not as nice as pottery barn. It was. I
- 57:34Speaker 1: think it was all rental ship. So every year they
- 57:37Speaker 1: bring you in like how about this couch and be
- 57:39Speaker 1: like no, And then you go to the differenttal house
- 57:42Speaker 1: and be like how about this one. It was just
- 57:43Speaker 1: like I'm learning so much. I never got the fite
- 57:48Speaker 1: hunter Johnny so had someone. I never had someone say
- 57:51Speaker 1: how about this couch? I was just whatever coach was
- 57:53Speaker 1: in there till I took Heather Glam's right. I mean,
- 57:54Speaker 1: in my defense, I was there the most hours of
- 57:57Speaker 1: the day, so I did. I did like I'm gonna
- 58:00Speaker 1: need to nap, so I'm gonna I do remember saying.
- 58:04Speaker 1: I do remember going up to somebody and being like, listen,
- 58:06Speaker 1: I don't want to be a pain in the ass
- 58:08Speaker 1: or anything like that. But my couch is made out
- 58:11Speaker 1: of like, uh, it's like Dan Durry or whatever this
- 58:15Speaker 1: ship is, and it's really hard on my face and
- 58:18Speaker 1: it's really hot. Is there a way we could find
- 58:20Speaker 1: something that's a little bit more cooler? Uh? And and
- 58:24Speaker 1: not cooler like uh, like aesthetically cooler, but cooler like
- 58:29Speaker 1: keeps your body cool cooler. I don't want you to
- 58:33Speaker 1: be a pain in the ass, but is there any
- 58:34Speaker 1: way this could happen? And I remember them being like him,
- 58:37Speaker 1: let me talk to somebody about this. We'll see you're talking.
- 58:44Speaker 1: Maybe Zack's like, they would be like, here's a couch.
- 58:46Speaker 1: When you think of this couch? No, okay, what about this?
- 58:50Speaker 1: You should have been like, you should be like Heather
- 58:52Speaker 1: Graham would like me to have a nicer couch. Okay, guys,
- 58:59Speaker 1: that's the show. So I hope you enjoyed taking this
- 59:02Speaker 1: trip down memory lane. UM, go to my Twitter and
- 59:06Speaker 1: recommend more stories that you enjoy. We've already had great

- 59:17Speaker 1: everybody when they first come on the show, is when
- 59:20Speaker 1: did you first get involved in scrubs? So maybe I'll
- 59:22Speaker 1: do a compilation of that. I've gotten a request for
- 59:25Speaker 1: all of Donald's wraps. I might try to do that.
- 59:28Speaker 1: There's a ton of options in here. I already know
- 59:31Speaker 1: I want to do one of just the youths. You know.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Obviously we're gonna put Zack's bar Mitzvah story and the
- 59:38Speaker 1: time maybe he found that special massager Um. Donald has
