- 1:17if there are any idiots in this room, will a please stand up?
- 1:23After a long silence, one freshman rose to his feet. Now,
- 1:29then, mister, why do you consider yourself an idiot? Inquired the teacher
- 1:34with a sneer well actually said the student. I don't, but I hate
- 1:42to see you standing up there all by yourself. Have you ever stopped to
- 1:59consider what a gift silence is to us? Just as words would be unintelligible
- 2:07without the spaces between them, so too music would not sound beautiful without the
- 2:13spaces between the notes. Silence what a gift. We will talk about this
- 2:21in this week's episode of Positively three sixty five, but first we have our
- 2:25trivia question of the day. Are you ready for it? Here? It
- 2:30is what country touches the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of
- 2:38Bengal. We will have the answer when we come back. Do you enjoy

- 3:53week's trivia question? The question was what country touches the Indian Ocean, the
- 4:00Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The answer India. Maybe some of
- 4:08you guess that from the first body of water listed the Indian Ocean. Yes,
- 4:15the answer is India. Now you know. In our bustling world,
- 4:29silence stands as a rare gem amidst the clamor in the busyness of modern life.
- 4:35External noises and the internal chatter of our minds drown out the subtleties of
- 4:42existence. The relentless crescendo of our surroundings can deceive us into devaluing silence,
- 4:49dismissing it as unproductive. However, within the hush lies an invaluable gift amidst
- 5:00the constant crescendo. Silence is a sanctuary where clarity and introspection thrive. It
- 5:09is a scarce refuge, increasingly precious in a world. Amplifying its noise,
- 5:15embracing silence reveals its true worth. A sanctuary for mindfulness, self discovery,
- 5:24and a respite from the relentless noise that permeates our daily lives. Silence is
- 5:31sacred. One Lakota Indian says this about silence. We Indians know about silence.
- 5:49We are not afraid of it. In fact, for us, silence
- 5:55is a more powerful thing than words. Our elders were trained in the ways
- 6:01of silence, and they handed over this knowledge to us. Observe, listen,
- 6:08and then act. They would tell us that was the manner of living
- 6:14with you. It is just the opposite. You learn by talking. You
- 6:18reward the children that talk the most at school. In your parties, you
- 6:25all try to talk at the same time. In your work, you are
- 6:30always having meetings in which everybody interrupts everybody else and all talk five, ten
- 6:38or one hundred times, And you call that solving a problem. When you're
- 6:44in a room and there is silence, you get nervous. You must fill
- 6:48the space with sounds, so you talk com compulsorily, even before you know
- 6:56what you are going to say. White people love to say. They don't
- 7:00even allow the other person to finish a sentence. They always interrupt. For
- 7:06Us Indians, this looks like bad matters and even stupidity. If you start
- 7:13talking, I'm not going to interrupt you. I will listen. Maybe i'll
- 7:18stop listening if I don't like what you're saying, but I won't interrupt you.
- 7:24People should regard their words as seeds. They should sow them, and
- 7:30they should then allow them to grow in silence. Our elders taught us that
- 7:36the earth is always talking to us, but we should keep silence in order
- 7:43to hear her. But there are many voices besides ours, many voices.
